I signed up for Match.com last night. I paid for a 6 month subs through my PayPal account. I set up my profile and my picture. I received emails telling me both had been approved. I started searching for people, emailing people, sending winks. I made connections and talked on live IM through the site to two people. I was on for about 5 hours and was feeling really good about the site. I had been a member of two others and didn't have any luck.

This morning, I got an email from PayPal telling me that the payment was refunded. I tried to log into my Match.com account and it says, "This account has been blocked. Please contact customer service." I called the customer service number, 1-800-926-2824. I gave the rep my information and asked her why I was blocked. She told me that she could see that I was blocked but couldn't tell me why. She said she didn't have that information. I asked her who would know that information. She said that it was the corporate office that blocked the account. I asked for the corporate office number and she said she didn't have it. She told me the ONLY thing I could do was join again from a different email address and use a different user name. I told her that was ridiculous. If I re-join with another user name and have a blocked profile under the old user name, that might look a little fishy to any potential matches that I might find. Not to mention all the people that I already contacted last night. What are they going to think when they see that my profile has been blocked?

In order to view profiles on Match.com, you have to fill out a profile. It's sort of like having to fill out a credit application to window shop. So there are plenty of folks on Match.com who aren't paying subscribers, just lookers who filled out the info to look and see if there were any interesting people out there. Match won't tell you who they are; they just let you send them email after email without delivering them, because they don't deliver to those non-subscribers. But if you're paying, they should be delivering your emails or telling you that they're not delivering your emails. That's part of the bargain. After all, that's what you paid for.

So I actually wrote in my profile I'm not a subscriber, and Match won't deliver your email to me. So they blocked my account for offensive content :-). When you sign up but haven't paid, they'll send you an email pretending to be someone interested in your profile, hoping you'll sign up to find out who it is. And that is fraud. And then they won't let you post your photos on your profile unless they approve it. We're not talking obscenity here. We're talking if your primary shot isn't enough of a close-up for their tastes, then they'll keep you from posting it as a primary photo, and people interested in your profile won't notice that you've posted a photo.

Internet dating could be great, but with Match.com, it's just a rip-off.

I signed up for Match.com knowing I could cancel within 3 days which I decided to do. Their cancellation policy is horrific! You have to call in, then mail in a letter saying you want to cancel with lots of specifics in the letter or it could delay the refund. Then it says within 10 days of their receipt of your letter, they will refund your money. This means they are holding on to my money for 3 WEEKS!!! This is entirely unnecessary. Next, they indicated that if I log into my account after the 3-day trial but before my money is refunded that it will in effect deactivate the refund request and they will keep my money! It seems like they are setting up a trap and it's horrible to the unsuspecting consumer. I WILL NOT use Match.com ever again! eHarmony, here I come!

I signed up for Match.com because they said they could find you a match or you get 6 months free. Well I found a match, only now I cant log in to talk to them. I don't know what happened. I sent them an email and they sent one back saying it was my connection, but it's not. Then they told me it's something else. So now all they're doing is giving me the runaround on email no less. I paid for a service and after about a month's work, I got what was promised... only now I can't get to them to see if it was a good thing or not. It's like they give a chance then they'll pull the rug out from under you. It's not right.

Something's up with Match.com. I went through their six months' deal and if you don't find your match, they would give you another six months free. After three weeks of my free six months, I'm suddenly suspended for violating the terms of their policy. No explanation, no way to ask what exactly I did to be kicked out. It seems odd. Three weeks later after six months of no apparent problems, I've suddenly violated their rules. No response to my inquires. Just an email saying we don't have to disclose why we've suspended your account. **, Match. You're crooks.

I signed up for a three-month subscription to their services. I rejected the auto-renewal option expecting my subscription to expire at the end of the three months. To my surprise, my credit card was just charged on 3/19/09 for an additional $59.97. I had not used my Match account in over a month, and I logged in to discover that it showed my account was set up on an automatic renewal. When I emailed customer service, I received an automated response stating that the terms of my subscription agreed to the auto-renewal. The company should have at least sent a notice that they were going to charge my card, then I could have canceled the service before it was charged. This seems to be a scheme for Match to continue generating revenue at the expense of unsuspecting past customers.

This was back in 2002. I was thinking about signing up with Udate.com so I found the (cancel my account) page first, then I signed up with Udate using my debit card. After that for some reason the (cancel my account) page was no where to be found. I'm guessing they logged my IP address and every time I logged in the page was gone or something. This sounds really stupid but it gets better. After a few days of using their services I emailed help@udate and explained that I had signed up and cannot find the page on their site to cancel my account. The reply: (I don't understand your question). Ok, I thought no one can be this stupid so I wrote them back and again explained that I signed up for an account with Udate.com and I can't find the page anywhere on your site to cancel my account. The reply: (I don't understand your question). At the time there were 2 links on their page for help. One that said email help@udate and the other, email the president@udate. I found this to be strange because why would the president wanna take the time to answer 100s or even 1000s of emails. This is what help@udate is for.

So I viewed the page source code to find that both links went to help@udate.com. Ok this is not cool. You don't lie to paying customers. After this I emailed help@udate many, many times a day and explained the same thing and told them to cancel my account! At the end of the month they took another payment out of my account. I thought to myself you sorry **! So I emailed help@udate and this time I cursed them out big time and guess what? They understood my question. Imagine that! It was a long time ago but their reply had something to do with (them not having to be subjected to such language). I found that to be funny. Well I adopted the ol I don't understand your question routine and continued to write them many times a day with just what they needed to hear. My emails were so bad that finally the president@udate.com, that's right, the actual president wrote me back and I explained to him what was going on and still nothing was done to close my account.

This went on for 4 months and after about 125.00 of unauthorized deductions from my bank account I finally had to close my bank account to stop Udate.com from taking monthly payments out. I did notice that right after all of this they updated their website with a new look and no email help or the president links. They now use an email form. I of course continued to write them daily telling them the things I thought they should hear for the next 2 years and yes I was smiling as I typed because I knew just how much they loved me. So I would suggest do not join Udate.com because they are a scam but if you do decide to join and get ripped off, I would be more than happy to write them for you being they haven't heard from me in 7 years and probably miss me.

I questioned my bank about an item that was charged to my account on 3/16/2009 in the amount of $101.94. Much to my surprise I was informed that it was a charge from Match.com. When I initially signed up for their services in Sept 2007, I signed up for a 6 months subscription, which I did accidentally and couldn't get the subscription reduced no matter how hard I tried. I thought in signing up for a 6 months subscription when the 6 months was up so was my subscription.

I learned from the bank that I have been charged repeatedly for their service and have never once received an email or notification from Match.com stating that my subscription was coming to an end and that I was about to be charged for another subscription! I did not sign up for automatic renewal. If in very small print there was an automatic renewal policy, it should be in really big print because I did not see it and I am generally very vigilant about these things. Unfortunately I didn't even notice the other charges and just noticed this one and inquired about it at my bank.

When I went to Match.com today and my sign-in name was there, I used my old password, accessed my account and officially terminated my services. After they just charged me for another six months. Services that I thought were terminated in March 2008 at the end my 6 months subscription.

I have had no activity for over a year and have never received an email from Match.com about anything. If I had received any notices from Match.com that my subscription was going to be renewed for another 6 months, I would have immediately cancelled the transaction before it even took place. I am disputing this charge and the ones from March 2008 and Sept 2008 with my bank and the Better Business Bureau. Best business practices would be notifying customers prior to automatically charging their accounts for services.

I wanted to cancel my account as my paid period was up. I couldn't find a way to stop automatic rebilling on my credit card. So I changed my credit card to an old one that was canceled. I did try using their online cancellation but it wouldn't work. It just gave me an error message. So I tried to email them online where you can't save a copy of it because they make you use their stupid online messenger but it just says, "Thanks for writing. We can't respond to everyone who has a suggestion but rest assured we will read all suggestions." I didn't have a suggestion but it was the only way to contact them. I told them I tried to cancel and said they are so secretive with their phone number they make it impossible to contact anyone.

Well guess what, I just got a note saying that my credit card was declined and that I needed to give them my new credit info asap or my account would be deleted. Like I care. That's what I wanted all along, but why do you have to go through all this nonsense? There should be a clear and concise WORKING METHOD to stop the service but if I had not changed my billing method to a non-working card, they would have billed me again. They are con artists who make it easy to sign up but impossible to quit.

How RIDICULOUS do you all sound right now? If you put your credit card information on the internet to pay for anything, MAYBE you should actually pay attention to the terms and conditions. I was on Match.com and it says it in BOLD letters as plain as day THREE separate times that Match will automatically renew your account AND it provides you with the cancellation date. You all complain about it's in the fine print. Well, maybe after realizing that a few hundred times, you would READ IT!? I am not saying Match is perfect nor is it without fault, but my goodness, take some responsibility for yourselves.

If something isn't working right on the site, contact customer care like you would for ANYTHING ELSE. Not a difficult concept. It is ridiculous that you are putting CSR's names on here. THEY did NOT do this to you and are only doing their jobs. These people have access to ALL of your personal information and even after you call them up cussing them out for something THEY DIDN'T DO, you don't see them putting your info out there, do you? This was my first time with match.com. I started communicating on January 15, 2009.

I liked what James **'s profile and picture represented. We had been corresponding nicely until this morning when he wrote me to tell me his 3-year-old daughter, Sherry, was admitted into the hospital for an appendicitis rupture. He said he didn't have any money on him and could I help him with the $4,000.00 needed to pay for the surgery, to please e-mail him back with an answer. Well, according to his profile, he has a bachelor's degree and is a building contractor by trade. They make good money, I know, I work for one.

He lost his wife according to his profile, so he must have had an insurance policy he collected on and can use that money to pay for his daughter's surgery. I am not gullible or that desperate to fall for such lines. However, I know there are others who are lonely and may be easily scammed into his deceitful ways. Would you please have your attorney research this e-mail address and possibly protect anyone else he may prey on?

I'm certain he took a nice-looking man's picture holding his child and submitted it as his own with a profile that was just as attractive to reel women in. I wondered how real this was. I had doubt in the back of my mind something like this could happen, so when it did, I wasn't that disappointed. I hope my future efforts might be more successful. I do want to protect others from harm, though. We all work so hard for our money, I don't want the corrupt getting away with this. Let me know if you would like the picture he submitted, so you can see who the real picture belongs to.

Thank you for your time and help. I did save the e-mail with him asking for the money. If you need a copy, let me know. Thank you.

I have repeatedly attempted to submit a profile edit which is constantly denied. I have contacted Customer Service & Tech Support; the reply is always instructions regarding Editing Profile. I am very angry and dissatisfied. I have attempted to communicate methods Match.com could correct the problem with no response. Please, let other consumers know, Match.com is not what they claim to be. They take your money and don't have the credibility to correct client issues. I can't be the only person who has had the same pitiful experience. Please help. Match.com will not offer any refunds even if a client resigns within the 90-day period. Isn't there protection for fraudulent practice?

OK, so I signed up for Match.com yesterday because a friend of mine said it may be good for me; after all, it was working for her. So I did sign up, probably around 5pm. Then I had to go to class and came back around 10pm and was on it for an hour or so before bed. The next day when I tried to sign on, it said there was a problem with my account and to email resolutions@support.match.com. So I did and asked why my account was terminated and this was what they responded:

“Due to our privacy practices, Match.com cannot disclose the specifics leading to the termination of your account; though, we believe this action was in the best interest of our member community. Should you like to obtain additional information, a valid subpoena directed to Match.com, LLC would be required. Please note that all civil subpoenas must be served on Match.com, LLC’s registered agent in the manner provided by law.”

I don’t know how it was better to delete me from the community when I just joined and everything you put on your profile they have to approve and I'm a good girl with a head on my shoulders; I don't do things wrong, yet I get my account terminated in less than 12 hrs of signing up and I'm still obligated to pay the $65 for the 3-month membership I got when I was on for a couple hours and all I did was create my profile. I'm pissed and I was advised to go to the BBB. I'm going to do whatever I can to get my money back... I'm not going to pay for something I am not using.

The whole reason I signed up for Match.com is that they guaranteed that if you don't find someone in six months, you get six months free. I read the terms of use and it had me under the impression that I had to use the services provided I frequently visit the website and search through profiles. During these six months, there were some gentlemen who contacted me but were nowhere near my standards so I didn't return nor contact back. If you check my records, you will see that I did contact people but they were not my match.

I am now outraged to be informed by your customer service manager Oswald that I was to have had to contact people that I have no interest in every month in order to be qualified to reserve my six months free. Oswald then rudely questioned me why I couldn't find someone in their 15 million profiles, making me feel like there is something wrong with me. I have all the right to contact people who I'm interested in, not who he thinks I should contact. I have not found anyone. He then went on and questioned me by asking, "Well, if you couldn't find someone you wanted to talk to in the first six months, what makes you think you will find someone in the next six months?" This left me speechless!

Basically, Oswald was telling me that I had to lower my standards and talk to people I have no interest or compatibility with in order to qualify. Is this part of your selling tactics? People who join your site has to contact people they have no interest in or who are not looking for the same things you are? I didn't pay over $100 to lower my standards. If I would have been aware of all this before, I would have never signed up. I would have spent my hard earned money at eHarmony, but instead Match had me under the impression that it was okay to look for Mister Right. That if I didn't find him in the first six months, Match will help me find him for another six months. It is outrageous! I look forward to hearing back from you promptly.

This is one of those auto-renew services that you sometimes encounter, usually with magazine subscriptions or online music subscriptions. If you do not remember to cancel your membership, they auto-renew it. The number to call is 800-926-2824. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with that if there was a simple resolution, but there isn't! Customer service tries to tell you they cannot refund your charges without you sending an email to another department. That is extremely poor customer service, in my opinion.

As a paying customer, if I follow the terms of the contract in cancelling the service, the service should be cancelled promptly and my money refunded. I made a fuss and demanded to speak with a supervisor. After the usual wait time, the rep came back on the phone and said my charges would be refunded within 24-72 hours. Wish I didn't have to waste another 15 minutes for what should be standard customer service!

They tried very hard to talk me in to staying (you're so pretty, etc.). I was adamant. I finally got through to them on the phone today, 1/26, and was told that they can only refund for the active month (January) and they cannot do December and would need to write to the Claims department about this. I advised them I have two emails that I sent to Match.com advising of cancellation and request for refund and got a response back stating I needed to call and do this online.

I was given the runaround by the first agent so I asked to speak to a manager (Willie agent **) out of the Jacksonville, NC call center and he said he will put something in the system requesting credit refund for December (but can't promise). I asked for an email confirming our conversation from him and he refused. I asked that he fax me something; he said he couldn't. I asked for a phone call back from him and a phone number to this other department who would review the 2nd month's refund and he said he can't provide it.

They offer money back guarantee if you don't find someone within 6 months and it was evident within a few months that the matches they sent were not even comparable to what I put in so I cancelled but yet the guarantee obviously is only good if you can get them on the phone and hope they agree with your position of service.

He had a Match.com account, and a few months ago, I asked him to get rid of it. He cancelled the paying membership. Today, I came across his profile on Match.com again and confronted him about it, as it said that he was active within the last 24 hours. He denied it, and I definitely wanted to believe him, but why would the website lie, right? Well, he ended up calling Match.com's customer service line and asked the customer service rep why it has logged him as being active within the last 24 hours, since he said he has not logged on in months.

The CSR (and I heard her say this) said that if one clicks on an email from Match.com while they still have an account, even though it is inactive, it logs as being active. Even in a case where one deletes the Match.com email immediately, it counts as being active. So basically, Match.com is fraudulently allowing those looking for love to believe that all of these great people are logging on, searching actively, when truthfully, they are getting rid of solicitation emails. In October I found out they charged me another $119.94 for a renewal. They did not send me a letter or email notifying me that my renewal was coming up, and if I was in danger of not qualifying for what turned out to be a qualifier for the 6 months free. They said for 2 months I only sent 1 or 2 emails, as opposed to the required 5. I think this is a really bad policy, as well as their no refund policy, for a variety of reasons. In my case I had to work internationally during those months and had limited time to use or access the internet for personal purposes, much less the focus.

I joined Match because it is recommended and rated one of the top dating services. I would not recommend this site to anyone, not only because of this reason but also because the quality of men is not up to par in most cases. I've heard eHarmony works better. In the end, I spoke to a supervisor who agreed to give me a partial refund of $86, which is better than nothing. The other option was to cancel this subscription and open another one to take advantage of a new promotion of 30% off for 6 months. I decided to the refund, because I don't want to use Match anymore. I appreciate her willingness to compromise, but I strongly warn anyone who signs up to read the find print, and note Match doesn't think they're obligated to warn you of an upcoming renewal. If I had read the complaints here about Match.com before the same thing happened to me, I would have assumed everyone here was whining or somehow deserved what happened. Suddenly Saturday when trying to log on I was told, "Your account has been blocked, contact the executive team." Match.com makes it very hard to contact customer care and I sent a number of emails to the executive team and phoned customer service, getting their number not from the web page but by calling the only number I could find online for Match.com, the PR department. I got their attention somehow, and got an email from the executive team saying I was blocked to protect the Match.com community. They also said To protect the privacy of our members they would not release any information as to why I was blocked unless sent a subpoena. Flabbergasted again: I have never done anything wrong, have no criminal record, an an upstanding citizen, family man, business owner.. simply crazy.

My only guess of what happened might be, when I was on Match.com about a year ago for a month, I met a woman and we dated once. I ended it very politely, she was angry at me, she even posted something rude about my username in her profile, it was disturbing. I ended my service at that time. When I recently joined again this past Friday, her profile was one of the first on my list. Maybe she made some sort of false complaint? I am probably grasping at straws here, because there is absolutely no explanation for this, absolutely unbelievable. I do not understand why they would block someone without explaining why. It seems they must be making those decisions somehow, what else would spark them if not accusations from members? And if so, why would they not ask the other party for an explanation? It seems like the Salem witch hunt days. It seems strange, and very disturbing.

Match.com Nigeria scam in Google says it all. I am a paid subscriber of Match.com and was contacted by a **. The next day his subscription was to expire so he asked that I e-mail him at a Yahoo account. From there the love letters streamed in, every day, very detailed. I bought it for a little while thinking I had met Mr. Right. He worked in the family cocoa business with offices in Salinas and Nigeria. He was on his way to Nigeria because his mom was diagnosed with cancer and needed an operation. He said he ran out of cash and that his bank didn't do business with South Africa so could I send him money. Like an idiot I sent $200. After that he started asking for log on IDs and passwords, bank information and account numbers so he could have a client send me money so I could wire it to him.

I of course now am realizing what is happening and said no. I didn't hear from him for 3 days - which was odd since he wrote or called me every day. A friend sent me to Google to the Match.com Nigeria scam and I about died! Everything listed is exactly what I experienced. Down to the handsome/sexy pictures sent to me and the guy's accent. This is a HUGE problem it seems. I wouldn't have ever thought this could have happened to me on a paid for and reputable dating service. I have copies of all the pictures, phone numbers and e-mails this person sent me. Of course he really doesn't exist and some poor soul's pictures are being lifted from somewhere and they have no idea.

I understand Match.com can't police hundreds of thousands of profiles but I think they should take some responsibility in posting a warning note or inform all new members that this could happen and if it does to let them know and contact authorities. If I would have received a notice like that I would have been so much more aware of what was happening as soon as it started.

An e-mail went out to me informing me of a cancellation of membership. I am an educated person with values, virtues, and morals held in high regard. Every and I mean every e-mail I received was positive and a reminder to me that I was not alone in that respect. In other words, there was NO reason at all for Match.com to cancel my membership because it was for the safety of their Match community.

If anything I was a model member who is very honest, etc. And, like most men on these sites, I did not hunt women and flirt etc., with lies... I'm an attractive, very genuine person that was on the site for the right reasons. I would've hoped that Match.com vested the same interest in keeping their site or billion dollar scam as I've now learned, in the highest quality.

I understand that there are in fact rules necessary to protect citizens on Match that are threatened, etc. The same holds true for anyone, such as me, that was terminated for misinformation about me or slander or possibly NO reason at all. I was terminated however, for the protection of the Match community as they stated. I take that statement VERY personal and it is a direct condemnation of me and my character. that is unacceptable.

I am a victim in that sense and persuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I am entitled to all information regarding the cancellation of the membership to be disclosed to me. It was asked of me by legal@Match.com to send a subpoena to them requesting the information. My attorney stated to me that it wasn't necessary for a subpoena at all. F.O.I.A., he stated, was enough to allow the records/reasons to be released to me.

After several months and documents sent to them, I HAVE HEARD NOTHING at all from them. I intend to legaly pursue any person or persons whether Match.com directly or likewise regarding the tarnishment of my character, slander, or unsubstantiated reasons for the closure of my membership. I don't have any desire to be on ANY site again and this certainly was the last thing I thought would happen to me. I have nothing to hide and even suggested that every one of my e-mails with Match was reviewed and examined by them to prove how complimentary and benign they were. NO RESPONSE!

It is incredible that it was hard enough to show my face on the site let alone to be cancelled for the protection of the Match community. I am appalled and again know that I am not alone in this experience. Match should be held accountable for every action taken on behalf of an innocent victim such as myself.

I had signed up and been charged for a 3 month period with Match.com - There were several problems with the overall online experience, most related to several fake profiles which seem to equal about half of the potential matches. I was dissatisfied with match.com however I did not request a refund, I simply canceled my auto renewal option and thought that would be the end of that.

On 09/10/08 a mandatory evacuation was called for the area I live in due to Hurricane IKE. I had to evacuate and as a result I was without electricity or internet access from 09/11 to 09/23. I was shocked to see that I had been charged on 09/19 for match.com and so I sent them an email explaining that this was in their error and regardless of that fact, I was under a mandatory evacuation for a federally declared disaster area. There was absolutely no way I could check on my account to insure I was not charged.

I received an email that basically said they have an absolutely No Refund Policy - I then sent them 2 other emails further explaining how they were in the wrong and were in fact breaking federal law by charging me.
That was 3 days ago, I had not received a reply so I filed a compliant with the Governor of Texas, My bank, and the BBB (they have their phone BTW) and then called them to see what was happening with my refund. I was told that it had been forwarded to another department to determine if I was eligible for refund (apparently their no refund policy is a lie) You can contact that department directly using the email executiveteam@support.match.com.

I was told to email them for more information and as of Sept 29, I haven't heard any reply.

If this isn't resolved I have already contacted my bank, and according to them I can write a full account of what happened, and they may reverse the charge.

63.93 - At a time when I just spent over $500 on evacuation, this small amount meant the difference between eating a healthy meal, or spending hours in line at the food stamp office. They have cost me endless hours wasted pursuing this refund not to mention the financial stress this has put on me during a time of natural disaster.

The told me that I had to initiate it during the last 7 days of my subscription. I would have also had to meet criteria regarding communication with other members during my subscription.

But i am very upset with this and i want to know who used my information and i want the money returned to my bank account immediately.

Apparently this match.com site is a big joke if they can just charge anyones acct. and im not the first one to make a complaint. I opened up a 6 month subscription w/ match.com in spring of '07. I used it for several months and then just stopped accessing my account. I haven't logged on for 1 year. I just got charged for $101 yesterday. No 'your subscription is about to expire' or 'your account will auto-renew' emails from them at all. I haven't received any correspondence from match since my initial 6 month subscription expired. Now out of the blue I've been charged.

I called thier customer service dept. and got a lady who was very short with me (apparently they must get these types of calls frequently and brace themselves). It was clear that she was just waiting for me to lose my cool so she could get nasty. I did not. They responded asking for the ID and zip code and e-mail which I promply responded and replied back to them immediately.

When I received my bank account statement, it seems that on April 20, 2008 they made an UNAUTHORIZE charge to my account of $101.94 after I had informed them several weeks earlier that I wanted this account cancelled. When I called on May 15, 2008 to have my account refunded, they refused. I spoke with Amanda L. and Deserie who said they will send it to executiveteam at match.com to review to see if they want to issue me a refund.

I contacted my bank and put in a dispute with them on May 15, 2008 and provided them the consumeraffairs website which lists the NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS! In my previous complaint statement I forgot to mention that when I complained the first time on Monday 05/12/2008 to Match.com about their having made an unauthorized charge to my debit card, the person I was talking with inactivated my account. They did this without telling me. Prior to calling back a second time, I checked my account status on Match.com. I discovered my account was inactive. So during my second call on 05/12/2008, I stated my account was inactive, why should I be billed for it? The representative replied that because I had complained my account had been inactivated.

However since I was paid through August I could reactivate it any time I would like to. Obviously had I reactivated my account this would have authorized their charging my account. To satisfy my bank, I have closed my Match.com account to get a cancellation number. I should be able to keep a normal nonpaying member profile. However, to satisfy my bank I am being forced to cancel it. In order to prvide my bank with a cacellation number, I tried to do this on-line. Unfortunatley, match.com is now requiring me to reactivate my account before I can cancel it. Interesting, I called Match.com and discovered that in spite of there being a statement on-line that I need to reactivate my account, it was actually cancellation on Monday and again today. I was given both cancellation numbers. They now have a record stating that as of today at 9:58 A.M., a refund was set up to be issued.

Apparently my bank is reversing themselves relative to a reversal of the overdraft fee. I have been told if Match.com reverses the charge, I will be responsible for the overdraft fee. This is because I will have resolved the dispute instead of the bank having done so. During the conversation with the bank it was revealed to me that without a cancellation number from Match.com verifying that I had cancelled my account prior to the date required by the Match.com service agreement, they would probably resolve the dispute in favor of Match.com. Additionally, the bank took out the overdraft fee ahead of the actual overdraft because it was a pending overdraft. Their overdraft fee over-drafted my account. Then the pending Match.com payment, which caused the overdraft, was actually taken out of my account the following day. This resulted in a second overdraft fee.

Not only is there no regulation of Match.com, there is no real regulation of banks. They have changed calling a Debit Card to that of a check card. According to them this allows Debit Card debits to overdraft checking accounts up to 11 or more times. This allows them to charge a minimum of $35 each time; even for a 1 cent overdraft. Then in 5 days if the account has not been brought current, each $35 overdraft fee is again charged $35. This repeats every 5 days. As such this unauthorized charge by Match.com can result in numerous additional $35 charges by the bank. The branch manager told me that these overdraft fees are difficult to get reversed because they are calculated as part of the profit and loss statement for the branch where the account was opened.

From my conversation with the bank it is apparent that banks are agreeing with Match.com's policy of charging member's accounts without any type of real authorization. This is because members have given Match.com their card number. This is possibly why on 05/12/2008 frudulently represented to me that a refund had been put through on my Debit Card account. Now, even if after my second call of today, they are to put through a refund in 72 hours, this will have been enough time to allow the bank to charge two more overdraft fees. Match.com is very possibly helping the banks by creating overdrafts for them. This certainly helps to keep the banks on their side. I have been told that one can try to get over draft fees paid by Match.com by writing to Match, com Billing, PO Box 12305, Dallas, TX 75225.

Match.com charged my credit/debit card without my permission. I called them at 1-800-. The representative told me that as per their stated service agreement, I had given them permission to automatically renew my account with them. The representative refused to issue a refund. She told me that she could prove to the bank that I had given them permission by sending the bank a copy of Match.com's service agreement. In response to my asking her how I could turn off their automatic renew feature, she told me that there is no way to do this. The only way I could have stopped the auto renew was to have canceled my account prior to the renew date. I hung up the phone on her.

Then I called back to talk with another representative. He told me the same things. I then told him that I would be filling a complaint with the Attorney General's Office. This resulted in his getting a supervisor to "approve" my refund. I was told that it would be refunded within 24 to 72 hours. I filled a complaint with my bank disputing their charge. That was on Monday. Today is Wednesday. I checked my account on-line. The refund has yet to be issued.

I called Match.com and was told that although the refund had not been issued as promised, it was now definitely issued. Again I was told that it will be in my account within the next 24 to 72 hours. I was also told that to file a complaint about any overdraft fee One can write to Match.com Billing PO Box 12305. My guess is that Match.com has no intention of refunding the 71.94 they charged my credit card.

DIRTY SECRET of Match.com and other similar dating services. Match.com has a program for other dating matching services to pay for the right to list umpteen profiles per day. For years this has resulted in numerous fake profiles from foreign scams on Match.com. This allows Match.com to have inflated numbers for members while also allowing the scams from Nigeria, Russia, Germany and possibly other countries the opportunity to send out messages from fake profiles to the Match.com members.

These message contain direct contact information. Of course when members complain about these fake profiles Match.com deletes them. This intentionally gives members the message that Match.com does not tolerate scams or fake profiles, as well any members who send contact information in their first message. What they fail to disclose is that they are actually allowing and promoting this to happen by letting other dating services, whether legitimate or not, to pay for the privilege of creating umpteen profiles per day.

Several times per week Match.com e-mails me a listing with thumbnail photos of members who are a possible match to me. Eighty to ninety percent of them are fake profiles from the scam dating services. This is very obvious as they repeatedly use the same photos. When they create their fake profile they usually copy/paste the same information into all of their profiles. In the past I have told Match.com that they can very easily prevent this by creating filters that will prevent this from happening.

Obviously if they did this it would drastically reduce their revenues from the scam sites. It would also decrease the number of "members", as well as the number of "new members" per week. Match.com is not the only dating site doing this. There are many others. Although the Match.com sister site of Chemistry.com is set up in a way that makes the creations of multiple fake profiles more difficult, from time to time they do show up there.

It is apparent to me that their needs to be more regulation of dating web sites. They should not be allowed to knowingly have fake scam services using their services. There needs to be a way for members to prevent automatic charges, while continuing to have the normal free accounts that other nonpaying members have. As I remember in the past Match.com had a box members could check to stop automatic payments. Then a day or two prior to renew date, they would remove the checks of members who had checked the do not renew button.

To prevent the automatic renewal, a member had to constantly monitor this. YAHOO! Personals also did this to me. I even changed my credit card number to a fake one. YAHOO! managed to figure this out and change it back. I was unknowingly charged by Yahoo! for an extended period of time.

Match.com is a dating website. I am a Puerto Rican woman. I went out on a date with another member who is Jewish. I emailed him afterward to let him know that I wasn't interested in seeing him again. In response, he sent me a series of text messages which became progressively more hostile. One of his text messages read: "God I actually thought I met a **** with class. Lavare mi quatro banos." That last sentence was Spanish for: Wash my four bathrooms. He also told me that I should stick to my own kind. I emailed a formal complaint to Match.com customer service as well as the Executive Team, apprising them of this member's racist comments. I expressed concerns about this member being able to remain on the website with the potential to approach other Hispanic women. I also forwarded this member's text message to Match.com and welcomed them to contact me if they were in need of further information.

As I never received a response from them, I followed up my complaint with two phone calls. The customer service representatives said that they could not disclose the nature of the investigation Match.com made in response to my complaint because of their obligation to protect the privacy of their members. I told them that I wasn't looking for this member's private information. I just wanted to know what they did in response to my complaint. However, the representatives said that they could not give me any further information. I think nothing was done as this member remains on the website. It seems receipt of this individual's membership fees, is more important to Match.com than protecting their members from someone who has been proven to be a racist.

I signed up in December 2005 for three months for $56. A lot of jerks contacted me. I then met someone a week later and we've been together ever since. Yesterday I was going through my checking acct statement and see a $59 charge from match.com I called them up. They said they'd been charging me $59 every three months for the last three years. They said I agreed to auto renew. I did not. Not only did they auto-renew me without my consent but they never sent an email or letter telling me they were charging me. On top of this they raised the price on me. That's a change in contract. That's not legal here in California. I got them to refund three months, then I asked to speak to supervisor. I got another three months, then I asked to speak to her supervisor. They put me on hold forever then said the supervisor didn't want to talk to me. I just made a report with the Better Business Bureau. Match.com wasn't even listed there. Everyone should complain there. Match.com is in Texas but the rest of us are in different states, countries with different laws that Match.com is breaking. Another thing, don't pour your heart and soul on your profile. Jerks use that as a script and they become whatever you say you want in their profile. Soon you will see it's all a lie. Be careful online dating. Theoretically it sounds like a great way to meet someone but only if both parties are honest and ethical.

I too am one of the many (perhaps thousands?) that did not accept the auto renewal policy. I did not use my account on the following day and immediately contacted customer service to cancel and obtain a refund. To my knowledge I DID check the do not auto-renew button in "prefs". Either way, they claimed that I had used my account after the expiration, giving them the right to bill me $60.00. I have contacted them for proof of use and then cannot verify the usage that I did send emails, which I DID NOT. NOTE: They admit they use East Coast time. I am on West Coast time. That means my account, according to them, actually canceled at 9:00 PM, my time.

I signed up for 3 months with the intention that that was the only time they would bill me. Now, I looked on my most recent credit card bill and noticed that they renewed me against my wishes. I called them to try to get the charge reversed, and they refused because buried within their terms in conditions, they state that they will auto-renew the account after the end of the first subscription term. They didn't even email me to notify me that my account had been renewed. To make matters worse, their customer service was extremely callous and condescending and refused to answer many of my direct questions, instead answering them with textbook, annoying techniques from their sales manual. In fact, the supervisor I spoke to claimed that they had notified me about the renewal because they had posted a note about it on my account page. She told me it was my responsibility as the customer to read the 'my account' page periodically to see if they had charged me for anything new against my wishes. To me this is utterly unacceptable. They refused to refund my $60, and the rudeness and condescension of the customer service rep and supervisor really upset me.

I joined match.com and thought it strange that a slew of the same men were still registered. I already knew of one man who was unaware he was still on their website. Another man was not active match but still had his photo and all the information about him - indicating he was available. In our 2 e-mails, he never let me know. Then, he wanted to meet for dinner. Instead, I wanted to talk by phone. The conversation began, and I thought he might be suffering from a slight memory loss. He wanted to know about me (which, I assumed, meant he wanted to learn more about me - WRONG!). He wanted me to send him photos (I thought he meant MORE photos than were on the website). Then he would repeat the same questions, indicating he either had not listened or he had memory loss. I questioned him about this, and that's when I learned he didn't even know he was on match. Then he began to get vulgar. I then sent him an e-mail saying he should cease contact.

This man looked up my town. Knowing I had an interest in art, he saw THE FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS. (I was listed as doing a basic drawing class), and he was able to access my phone number and address. He tried calling after that one conversation, but I hung up. He still has my exact address, and I am concerned. He must have been drunk when we talked, and he indicated driving from his town to mine--an easy drive. I e-mailed match.com telling of my complaint (showing photos and profiles of men who didn't even know they were still listed: one ended his over 6 mo. ago, and another ended his over a year ago!!) and demanding my 3 mo. money down payment to be refunded.

They were violating their own promises. Not only was this man not active, but match still continues to have his information. Because he was listed, I was able to contact him. I only found out he knew NOTHING about me (nor saw my photo), after this phone conversation. I want my refund and I want match.com to quit having information about people who are not using their service.

I have been a Match member for two months. Many matches had the same pictures with the same profile information but different names--leading you to believe that these were all separate individuals, which they weren't. Many matches were able to wink or send you emails, but you were unable to see their profiles. One match individual asked me to help him cash money orders that he was unable to cash abroad, and wanted the money wired to him. (I declined to assist him.) Would receive many winks (5 to 10) in a day, and none of them would ever respond; also sent out many winks and emails, and those members would never respond either. Way too many sent for not one response.

I feel that Match.com is misleading individuals to believe there are interested parties when in fact there are none. I also feel that some women might not have been smart enough to say no to a member asking for help in cashing those money orders and could have been out thousands of dollars. All in all I think Match is selling a product that isn't working the way that it should. People aren't getting what they paid for, and it is fraud.

Make Love Happen Guarantee by Match.com is fraudulent program.

I had given Match.com another chance after unsuccessful, expensive paid membership attempts for at least 4 (four) years or more by signing up to their Make Love Happen Guarantee program.

I was surprised to notice that for MONTH 2, the Progress Track showed a red exclamation mark. The red exclamation mark indicates that you dont their minimum requirements for the Make Love Happen Guarantee program. One of the requirements is you must send an email to a minimum of 5 (five) members that you never emailed previously, every month, for 6 (six) consecutive months.

During Month 2, I vividly remembered seeing the notice Good work! You've contacted 5 members this month. The thing that bothers me the most is that I did not see the red exclamation mark in MONTH 2 until MONTH 4! So somewhere along the line, someone did something to the system to cause that to happen.

I read the Program Rules carefully before joining this program, made a commitment to myself, to ensure that I meet one of the requirements, which is to send a minimum of 5 (five) qualified emails to other Match.com members. The technique that I used to remind myself to do so was by book-marking at least 5 (five) qualified members each month and I did that during Month 2.

I called Match.com and complained. Everyone I spoke to was like a robot, incompetent, and did not care to address my issue at all. You cannot speak with a manager/supervisor. Finally, one of them suggested me to write to executiveteam@match.com. I sent an email to that address 3 (three) times, and I did not get any reply from them.
