I signed up for a 3-day trial. 3 hours later I inputted my credit card info as I got an email from them asking me to finish my registration. I provided the requested info and also used a promo code for a special rate should I decide to go past the 3 days. I chose not to and cancelled the account. But they still charged my credit card saying that when I used a promo code it invalidated my 3-day trial. What? Absolutely nothing like that was mentioned to my when entering this code. I never would've compromised the option of canceling after the 3 days trial. They refused to credit my card. It reeks of a a scam but I don't have the time to spend on fighting them back and forth.
BE FOREWARNED! This company will do whatever they have to to get your money. Stay away! And by the way - my reason for not staying with them was because their profiles are people who are either not on it anymore or are using photos from 5 years ago. Bad, bad, bad.

This site promotes SO MANY SCAMMERS and PHONY profiles (that they post to boost membership) on a DAILY basis. It is a joke and a waste of money. IF someone does meet someone on here and ends up in a loving relationship then they are just "lucky." The odds of that happening are pretty slim. I have gotten real good at spotting these scammers and Phony profiles that I know what I am talking about. They want you to think that they preview profiles before posting but it is clear they do NOT. I do not understand why Consumer Affairs does not shut them down. Years ago I am sure the site was fine, but as time has moved on, it has gotten worse. I have the proof too to show they are not what they claim to be and what some of these scammers are doing is illegal and they should be focusing on shutting them down!!

I submit my cancellation request and I also received cancellation confirmation but I never got refund..so in December I requested again, then customer service replied me that since I agreed to pay means never get refund even if I don't use their service at all..This is scam site..worst customer service ..hard to believe there is site like this in States still existing...

I thought I had cancelled a 3-month subscription. Today I saw a charge for $68.97 on my bank account and called Match and the rude woman said there was nothing she could do because it actually was charged yesterday and I sent emails on Match. I figured if I cancelled my account, the ability to send emails would cease. She wouldn't refund a cent and told me after the three months were up I wouldn't be charged. I don't want to be on their ridiculous website anymore and to not refund my money the same day it hit my bank account is BS! The customer should always be right, but with Match.com, the name of the game is take everyone's money! I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and even told the rude saleswoman on the phone that I was going to. Obviously, they don't care. All they care about is taking people's money and not providing good customer service.

I joined Match.com and what a rip off. Last year, I registered with free dating sites and got a much better response. This time around on Match.com, after PAYING a full subscription, I get notices informing me that not everyone can respond to my ad and I would have to upgrade. What a con. Furthermore, they have ignored EVERY e-mail I have sent them asking them to contact me regarding their poor service.

I only give this one star because it will not let me write a review without one. I don't even think that it deserves that much. They repeatedly charged my account even though I tried to cancel the account. Then refused to pay the overdraft fees that they caused when they put my account in the negative.

I CHOSE the 1 MONTH subscription when I went to the Match.com site. At the time, I was given other choices, 3 months for a lesser amount per month, 6 months for a greater savings per month, etc. Again, I chose the 1 MONTH. I only wanted 1 month. What is so hard for them to understand that concept? I only wanted to give them the sum of $26.99 of MY money for 1 month. I had not used that credit card again, so I was not looking for charges or a bill to pay. They charged me "auto-renewal" for 35.99 for Oct, again in Nov and AGAIN in Dec. They said I had agreed to these terms.
I contacted their "Customer Service Department." They should change the departments name. They didn't care at all that I was taken advantage of. They continued to say I agreed to the terms. I told them possibly I misunderstood, but I CLEARLY was not interested in multiple months at the time of purchase because again, I CHOSE the 1 MONTH option. I was transferred to 3 more levels of supervisors and ended up with a Corporate "Care" Specialist (?). Again, they couldn't have cared less. Why would a corporation think it's a good idea to have no moral compass? That money they took from me was MY money. Not theirs. It is MY hard earned money, that I should get to decide on how it's spent. Not them. Shameful.

Match.com - Thieves. It's a strong word but true. Cancelled my subscription over 6 months ago - I have an email cancellation confirmation. On Dec. 22nd Match.com billed my account for $137 for no apparent reason. When I called to let them know of the mistake they told me I ordered the service and sent multiple emails so a refund would not be possible. I explained that I did not order the service, that I did not send emails. I spoke with a supervisor who said that he saw emails sent "on his side". Not only did I not order, did not send emails but my profile showed no emails sent. Nonetheless, the supervisor said a refund would not be forthcoming because "his side" showed emails sent. Match.com stole $137 dollars. I invite someone from Match.com to challenge my assertion. In the meantime, will keep sharing this story.

Like others on this site, I cancelled "auto-renew" within the correct time frame but then was charged again and again anyway. When I called and spoke to "managers", they did absolutely nothing - no apology, no offers, no refunds. This is separate from the fact that the site was terrible and the people it recommended were all very different than what I said I was seeking. Save your money to use on a different site, please.

Match is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They say that they won't charge your card if you cancel by a certain date. Even after you cancel, they keep charging your card. I followed their refund protocol to the tee and still was not refunded. I spoke with 3 so-called managers and supervisors who told me that they didn't have bosses and that was as high up as I could go in their company. They all refused to give me a refund because I called them a day late even though I cancelled in the time allowed. It was a weekend and they are not open on weekends. I explained that I never authorized that charge and I cancelled my membership within the time allowed and was assured my card would not be charged. They were all too busy telling me how they couldn't help me that no one even listened to me. Worst company ever. Save your money and don't sign up.

Initially I signed up for ONLY a 6 mos. $89 trial with Match.com. I asked the agent if I would be automatically enrolled "forever" and was told "no." Come to find out, prior to my 6 mos. running out, my debit card was automatically charged $119.94 and I did not catch it until another 6 mos. charge of $119.94 appeared. I hadn't used Match.com since before my initial 6 mos. trial had expired. Match.com has designed their business to take advantage of customers by being sneaky to keep charging their customers. I will never again try a "trial" anything. I expect good business service from companies.

I signed up with Match.com for a 30-day offer purchased through Living Social. Match.com does not allow you to redeem an offer without providing a credit card for their subscription based model. I did not sign up for auto-renewal and went through the online process to cancel 3 days prior to the end of the 30 day offer to avoid any charges on my credit card. I even went as far as deleting all my photos and hiding my profile as I no longer wanted anyone to see my profile as this site is terrible.
On the 20th the charge came through my credit card and immediately contacted them regarding the issue. They have been unhelpful and only continue to say the same thing, because I logged on they show I used the site (I logged on to get their information to contact them as well as to make sure my profile was still hidden and canceled) and would not be refunding my money.
I am filing complaints with BBB and all other consumer sites as well checking to see about the legalities around their practices. I immediately contacted them. They cannot just aimlessly charge someone's account and keep their monies when they had no desire to continue with their services. This is ridiculous. Everyone beware of Match.com's practices.

Joined again last week after a 5-year hiatus now only to find it is basically a sex mill worker outlet. Nothing in my profile would indicate that I would be fodder for these girls yet 99% of the Match.com "winks" and "favorites" notices that I get via Match.com are from these sleazy gals who obviously do not read my profile beyond whatever it is they look at. I get the impression that these girls must purchase sex fodder candidate data lists from some key word search operation (think in India) much in the same manner as recruiters use Monster.com and Careerbuilders.com. Then they send out these winks etc. hoping to lure an unsuspecting sucker into their lair for some sort of sting. Match.com is hurting badly to let this type of operation use their database and communication network as rampantly as is being done. It is as though they have not a clue... or... maybe they are a willing and paid participant in this crap.

There is an offensive Match email that was sent to me by another member. I had to report him three times before they would remove him from the site. They told me that they never received my first two complaints. How safe is that system. I asked for a refund and they told me that they could not do anything for me because I have been using the site. I don't feel that I received what I paid for. I believed that I was paying for a safe dating sight where I could meet safe men. I believe this email and the actions of Match prove otherwise. I will not become a member again and I will never recommend Match.com to another person.

I have dated two women on Match.com. That is the only positive I can say. Other than that it seems odd I have had 4 or 5 women who were interested in me that live 2 or 3 thousand miles away? Seems like baiting and deception is the name of the game on Match, seems like a lot of women's profiles are on this site even after a year. I wouldn't suggest this site unless you have a lot of time and want to waste your hard-earned money, while not receiving few if any replies. Go out and meet women the old fashion way which can be challenging because it seems women are wary of men, understandably why.

In 2009, I tried the site, and, unlike any dating site I tried before or since then, I went on several dates. My most recent ex-girlfriend had been one of the women I'd found through the site, although she was the only 1 I went on more than 1 date with. Although the relationship with her ended about 15 months after it started, online dating was a worthwhile experience at the time. Late in 2013, I tried Match.com again. Within the 1st couple of days after I created an account, I had serious problems trying to log in. Not confident they would resolve in a timely fashion, I deactivated my account. It's unlikely I will try Match.com again as a result.

I subscribed to Match.com on 3-day free trial which says you don't get charged as long as you cancel within the 3 days. I did this and even got a confirmation of cancellation. Come day 5 Match.com charged my account. I found out a day later when found could still see and read messages and reply. I wrote an email asking why this happened. The reply I got said they cannot see evidence of my cancellation - hence nothing they can do. Also, they said since I now logged (at being charged) and used site, I can't get refund. Trickery or what? I decided to reply and attached evidence of my cancellation - no answer so I called.
Surprise, surprise, they were able to see my cancelled renewal but now the reason the gentleman gave is apparently after cancellation, I went back into account and subscribed again that same day - hence they cannot refund the money. This is not true. I never logged on and renewed. When I enquired about email received to suggest I never cancelled, the gentleman said it was wrong department to my amazement to which I asked, "It says Match.com. Are you not the same people?" To which was hesitant to comment further. I asked if they would guarantee this does not happen again; he said no, he can't because I could auto renew again. OK, I never renewed in the first place so I guess even next time they could use same reason. The suggestion given was delete the account. I don't believe it is correct or legal for things like this to happen.
As a consumer, what protection does one have if a company does not honor what it says? I think Match.com should be transparent especially since the nature of product they sell advocates for honesty of its customers. So if you are thinking of taking up the free 3-day offer, beware. It has a catch so be careful. Don't just cancel auto renew as they say. As I now believe it has magic powers of resetting itself, delete account before 3 days are over to guarantee you're not charged. In the future, I will be staying way from Match.com. The experience and handling of it has left a sour taste.

I couldn't be MORE disappointed with Match. I do not get a lot of opportunities to meet men because of my job and my overall busy lifestyle so I figured that Match would be a great way to meet men and date. I signed up 3 weeks ago and I have not had ANY quality men contact me (I take that back. I had 1 guy who was okay contact me but he lives in another state). No offense here but the quality of men who keep contacting me is really scary. Some look like straight up hillbillies!!
I'm not saying that I'm a perfect 10 but I am good looking. I've never had trouble attracting men in the past so I have no idea what the problem is? 99% of the men who are contacting me are overweight, BALD, and UNATTRACTIVE. Also, I've noticed that a lot of men are lying about their age. I set my age limit at 45 and about a quarter of the men contacting me are NO WAY even close to 45. Try 55-65! Also, a lot of men use very old pics. Sorry, but any pic older than 2-3 yrs is irrelevant.
Why do people do this? I would rather look BETTER in person than better in a pic. So many men post pics of themselves slouched on an ugly sofa or take a selfie in the bathroom (personal or public...yuck) or selfies in their junky, messy house. I'm not expecting Brad Pitt but a nice, clean, attractive man would be nice!!! Another issue is that I was very clear in my profile that I ONLY want a ** guy (just my personal preference) and it never fails: every single day I will be contacted by an ** guy, a Middle Eastern guy (some even wearing a turban) or an Asian guy. I'm NOT racist at all but I am only attracted to ** guys. This has nothing to do with "quality" like the other issues I mentioned. It's simply a matter of what I'm attracted to.
Since Match gives you the opportunity to be very detailed and specific about what you are looking for, I don't understand why this keeps happening! I think my profile and my pics speak for themselves and like I said, I'm very clear about what kind of guy I'm interested in. My experience so far has made me feel discouraged and even bad about myself. I'm wondering WHY some of these below average men (on all levels) are contacting me?? Gosh, maybe I'm not very attractive after all!!!
I've been told that Match has the best quality of men as opposed to other online dating sites. If this is the case, it's very scary what is out there. I was in a 10 year marriage and now that I'm single again, I am really discouraged by what is "out there". I have seen SOME good looking men on Match, but when I read about what they are looking for, it is usually a woman who is a lot younger than me (I'm 41) and a man who wants kids. I don't fit that criteria so there would be no point in even contacting them. I feel like I've wasted my money...

The website itself is not that bad. It's actually set up well (much better than e-harmony) and quite easy to use. However, I must caution potential users about the quality of men on this website. Many of these men are just looking for hook-ups and if they are looking for a relationship they are not high caliber folks. I joined match.com looking for someone educated, friendly and somewhat good looking. I'm not looking for John Stamos melted with Mother Theresa and Donald Trump. I was just looking for a decent guy with a good heart and a smart brain. I met my ex on the website and although he seemed great at first, he was a genuinely awful person. I tried to give match.com a second chance after we broke up. The quality of men on there was basically the same. They either wanted hook-ups, they were not educated/had no ambition, or their personalities were flawed (rude, self-centered, mean-spirited, just plain strange, etc).
The main problem with the website isn't the quality of the business itself; it's the quality of the people. If you're looking for love, don't bother with this website, try the bar scene (which believe it or not is probably better!) or meet at church, or through friends. You can go on some dates on here, meet some people and fill your social calendar. Match.com will keep you busy, but if you're looking for something serious, this website isn't the place to find it. You're basically searching for a Cadillac at a Kia dealership. There may be some good guys on here, and I have about a month left of the membership to find out. I can honestly say, however, that I will not be renewing and I encourage you to consider this before joining this website.

I have read just about all the reviews for match.com and I have experienced just about the exact same thing. I signed up for a membership with match.com. Upon my subscription I received some very nice replies from some very nice women, I answered them, and to no avail I have not received any response back. I also noticed that a couple profiles suddenly disappeared from the site as if they were never there. It's quite ironic that they lure you into the site with all these women who say they are interested in you, and suddenly you find out that it was nothing but a scam.
I also did my own investigation of some of the profiles, and found that 30% of them are fake, as I also seen someone from another website who has been scamming people with the sob story. I also found that most of them do not reside in the state or city that they say they are in. I called as well and it was the complete run-around, scripted I understand how you feel and no we do not refund monies back to anyone. I suggest a class action suit against this bogus company and its illegal and fraudulent tactics.

Match.com and its sister company Chemistry.com constitute a nightmare in terms of the lack of security. This goes well beyond the fraudulent claims made by people on the site, which they obviously have no control over. Chemistry.com, which I used for a brief time in October, is so badly managed in terms of security that someone hacked my account, bank information and all. While they did catch this error and promised to refund my 30 bucks, nothing was done. I did get a new debit card. Match.com, on which I have a dormant account, is also badly run. Someone has hacked my profile (which is fairly well written, not that anyone is giving out Nobel Prizes in Literature for dating profiles) and some troglodyte is emailing women all over the United States using my picture and profile. Their customer service center closes down at 6PM, so good luck there. Dating websites basically do not work. eHarmony has a nascent anti non-Christian bias, so I am going to give this idiocy up.

I've tried Match.com several times off and on for the past 10 years. As a single father with 2 kids, I just don't have many opportunities to meet people with similar interests. I've filled out the profiles, uploaded as many recent pictures as I could find (all within the past year) and started searching. Lots of profiles come up that appear to match my interests. A few things that I've learned on Match:
1. The vast majority of people that show up in searches are not paying members and cannot reply to emails. I'm a 47-year old man, have all my hair, teeth, no scars, etc. I'm also still fairly active. I would expect that by sending out 30-40 emails to ladies that fit my criteria/interests that I would receive at least 15 email responses. I received 1... Yes... ONE.
2. There are a TON of fake profiles, scammers on the site. When receiving an email from someone, you go to view their profile and it will tell you that the profile is "hidden." Essentially, I believe these profiles are used as bait to lure you back to the site.
3. The "which one do you like best" type of thing that Match does on the default home page clearly must be people who are no longer on the site. By selecting one of those individuals, I believe you are sending them a "like" notification. So, when you think Match is just trying to better understand what physical characteristics you like best, realize that it is all part of their ponzi scheme to bring others on board/back to pay for a subscription.
4. "A Few Extra Pounds" appears to be the default for lots of people. I met a few people for lunch or dinner as a result of connections on Match. All of them said "a few extra pounds." Well, let's just say that my definition of a "few" clearly doesn't fit their definition of a few. When a woman outweighs me by 50 lbs, I'm generally not very attracted to them. It's not that I'm that picky about weight, but clearly they aren't as active as I am. I'd like to meet someone that can go do things with me.
5. Pictures are OLD! For most people or of OTHER PEOPLE!!! I guess we all expect that some folks will have older pictures, but come on! I quite literally couldn't even recognize a couple of the people that I met via Match. In one instance, I was standing outside of the restaurant waiting for my date. When she came up to me, I had no idea who she was. The woman on Match had long blond hair, blue eyes, and was probably 5'8". The woman in front of me had short black hair, brown eyes, and was probably 5'3". The woman I met was pretty, but I simply couldn't understand it. She explained to me that she uses her friend's picture because she gets more emails that way. Needless to say, I kept the meal short.
In other cases, the pictures HAD to be over a decade old. I met two women who CLEARLY had used their picture from college or something. When you see a picture of a woman who says she loves to mountain bike, run, swim, and do competitive triathlons with a younger looking picture (I think she was 46), you can believe it. But, when they show up and are 100 lbs overweight and look like they are 56, there is something seriously wrong.
Match simply doesn't appear to have any good controls on truly matching people up. I think that is why they are now doing these social events. Essentially, if I wanted to go to a bar and meet people, I would do that. I don't need Match to arrange that. I'm sure that they have plenty of their "plants" in those settings anyway. Very frustrating site as there is no way to get money back. Each time I signed back up, it was so that I could view the profiles or respond to the emails that I received. And, in each case, surprise, surprise... the profiles were gone or I received no further communication or the email was missing. All a scam.

I signed up about a week ago (7th Nov 2013). I filled out my profile to the best of my abilities & started my search with gusto. A few minutes into it I was confused in that all the "matches" were of the wrong ethnicity & older than I asked for. No problem customer service said that I must refine my profile by stipulating that matches beyond my search 'wants' will only be eliminated if you stipulate that they are "deal killers". In other words you have to tell them what you DON'T want as well as what you do. A bit of a pain but O.K. I asked them if this is match.com or mismatch.com. I know I was being a smart ass but I was still willing to tow the party line.
After refining my profile I started receiving abusive comments from some matches that I was a fraud. I tried to respond but I found I was locked out. I had the feeling that my account had been hacked & I figured customer service would straighten it out. I was concerned that someone else was masquerading as myself getting up to no good & potentially damaging my reputation & at the very least making my life a little more difficult. Turns out it was the weekend & I guess all the customer service reps were out on dates so my relief would have to wait & all the work I had put into emailing matches etc would be wasted. Oh well what can you do?
Monday arrives and after investigating how to contact these guys ( I guess they don't make it easy for a reason) I asked them to tell me what was going on. They put me through the third degree to ensure I wasn't the fraudster which I thought was ironic because if they had used the same precautions that they used on me this con artist might never had made off with my profile in the first place. Once I had convinced them I was the real Evan they apologized & offered me three free days. I declined & asked for a refund. They declined. I moved on as I knew I was going to lose this battle. They promised to get a manager to call me back with a potentially better counter offer but that never happened.
I decided to go with the flow & await my next set of matches. They arrived & again they were ALL beyond my stated preferences with regards to age & location etc etc. They might as well have matched me with a baboon which at this point I might consider :) I checked my one and only email reply who told me to take a hike as she thought I was not a genuine guy as I had no profile pics. She didn't trust that. I replied that I did have profile pics but Match must have deleted them as a security precaution because they thought MY pics were that of the impostor. This is where I am at right now. Sounds like an episode right out of Jerry Springer. I know things can happen but this is absolutely ridiculous! They do not care at all about their customers so all I can do is vent. Please stay away from this company. The worst experience ever!

I signed up for a 6-month subscription, but I wanted to cancel 30 MIN after. I tried to cancel IMMEDIATELY, but I was not allowed. They somehow failed to make it clear that there is no refund on the account. I talked to both a customer rep and a supervisor, saying that I do not want to be billed for a 6-month service that I am not happy with, do not want, and do not use. I read the Terms of Use carefully and thoroughly and am positive no rules were broken. Nothing in my profile could have possibly been in violation, and emails sent were cordial and polite. Contacted Match and they refuse any requests for explanation citing protection for their users. What? I wanted to correct any violation if there was any. I requested a refund or prorated refund but flat refusal.
I was so certain they made a mistake. I created another account (and erased my computer cookies just in case) screened it carefully, and signed up again. Within 24 hours the new account was canceled. Again I contacted Match and again no reason was given for termination. Frustrating! Most appalling is they would not issue a refund. Crooked company! No ethics, pure greed. I didn't get to use their services but was charged. It is criminal.
I went to my bank and filed credit card disputes. The bank was helpful in trying to refund my monies but in the long run the bank will NOT reverse the charges. I joined eHarmony as well as another site and have been extremely happy with eHarmony. It has matched me with many great profiles and I'm communicating often. Several resulting in face-to-face dating. Hope you're not reading this too late, like I did. Heed this warning, stay away. Other sites work better. I'd be willing to add to a class action if one is impending.

Here is the series of events that transpired. I signed up and selected three months and it threw me into 6 months without me realizing what happened. I used the site for no more than 12 hours and received nothing more than perverts trying to chat and sending scripted lines and asking me to go to Yahoo. I tried to delete my account according to their policy and it stated that my profile and user ID would be deleted. As this was the weekend, I attempted to call them to get a refund and the offices were closed. Early Monday morning I called, and they were only able to give me $69.00 of my $119.00. They kept trying to sell me more and guarantee while I kept trying to cancel. I try to get back online and my account was still there with my profile. I kept asking them to delete everything and they did not want to. I finally just took my refund and hope that they don't charge me again, as this is what I read on reviews.

Checked my bank account and Match.com charged me 6 months of subscription even though I only "joined" for 3. Sent them an email; I wanted a refund, and told them I had printed out each page of subscription. Will see what happens. Hopefully this won’t require me taking them to court for the refund.

49-yr-old man when I signed up on Match. Lots of interested and interesting responses. Most seemed to be poorly selected on deeper look, smokers, lots of kids, very religious or overweight, etc. All of the things I specified as not interesting to me. Still had some fun dates and great people that made up for the enormous amount of time needed to filter out the mostly wrong people that were selected for me. BIG PROBLEM started when I decided to get out. Charged my card after I tried to contact someone to let me out. Finally got that straight and still got lots of emails about new matches. Asked them to stop and when they ignored me for weeks, I got mean. Changed my profile to that of a Satan worshiping homicidal midget with offensive anatomical details and was informed quickly that I would now be off Match.
THEN I found a relationship that seemed great and 18 months after I escaped Match, I was met by my girl heading out with her things because "You are back on Match and active within three weeks! My friend found you and told me!" Well, I tried to explain that Match would not be my choice even if I was looking for someone new, but I wasn't. Eventually we got back together and once again I went straight to my profile and found my smiling face. I made some horrible comments about Match.com editors in my profile. I am now off again. Guess I've burned that bridge. I'll have to try to find my profile for a long time to make sure I'm not being used to bolster the ranks of available people.

If you have experienced Match.com, I am sure you share my frustration. If you are on here looking for a dating site, here is an honest and thorough review of my experience. When I first joined Match.com, I decided to sign up for 3 months for $60. Very soon, I realized how ineffective this dating service was at matching people. They have a quiz for you to fill out so they can help you match to other people. I am severely allergic to dogs and I put my religious beliefs as very important to me on the quiz. I kid you not, over half of the people "matched" to me from the site were atheist dog lovers.
That part was disappointing, but it wasn't the worst. I decided to search for people myself. Most of the people on the site were really not that great. It was really hard to find someone decent (not old, not from out of the country, etc), let alone someone who was a good match to me. Finally, I found someone who looked average and seemed nice to talk to. I met up for my first date and while we were riding in the car together, my date from Match.com told me he was a convicted felon! I was terrified. I thought the site screened for criminals at least. Apparently not.
After that uncomfortable date and frustration with the site, I decided to let my 3 months run out and I decided to just count my loss with the $60 I spent signing up. About 3 days after my 3 months was up, I noticed that my credit card was charged another $60. I immediately signed on to Match.com to cancel my account. I had not been on there for over a month and I thought that because it was only 3 days since they charged me and because I had not used their services for over a month, that they would understand and credit my account back.
First, I could not find any contact phone number to call them. I had to go through my credit card and the Better Business Bureau. However, Match.com got off the hook with both because they said I had signed on during the new pay period (I HAD to sign on to cancel my account). They also said that even if I didn't sign on, because of my "agreement" with them upon signing up, they were allowed to charge my credit card for 3 more months of service unless I notified them that I didn't want them to. Apparently, they have done this to countless other people who did not want to continue on Match.com.
I felt very swindled. It was a horrible experience. I hope that this review helps others to avoid this business; this business does not care about their customers. They charge a lot of money (and then some) and the matching is ineffective. The people on the site are very limited and some are literally criminals. I suggest saving your money and just signing up for a free dating site - there are more people on free dating sites and you're more likely to find someone who you like.

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING...... AUTO RENEWAL FAULT IN NOTICE TO USERS: I have used this site on/off over a 10-yr period as needed and am a senior citizen. Actually the site has been positive until today. Match places in small print somewhere that they will AUTO-RENEW your credit card if you do not cancel BEFORE your subscription end date, AND YOU BETTER KNOW WHAT THEY CONSIDER THAT DATE TO BE. The first time I had the problem this year, they cheerfully refunded my money, HOWEVER...little did I know that wasn't going to happen the next time (unstated). Even when I rejoined, I said I do not want auto-renewal and they pointed to a check box (I could not find by myself). Of course it didn't work and I am writing to YOU.
My thought is.. if they do this, they shouldn't do it in small print... They should amplify this to users, caps, subscription page, something!! Several months down the line, when the auto charge hits your bank acct and for any reason..."not enough money" is there, you may have lots of NSF charges in contest. They email you on the day they charge your acct and you have no option to say yea/nay in the last month of your subscription... which I think you should! I actually knew my subscription was ending and 1 week before... I started a process to make sure I got no auto-renew but for some reason I accessed my account and found my acct seemed active, but I could not manipulate the account.
Acct "information" option (includes the ability to cancel) was not available, my profile, pictures, etc. or any change info was also not avail. Today, I got the charge to my card and Match email stating that. Believe me!!! The 1-800 and 1-214 (corporate) customer service departments actually are rude, totally lacking compassion and denied their site was denying me access. I ask for escalation, and the 3rd customer service rep said, "No one was available to handle my call," and if I gave my telephone no. they would have someone call me within 48 hrs... And then "added" the charge was final.
Just recently, I tried some other free and contact specific sites as well and found that the integrity of some was less than desirable as well but I never thought as big as Match is that I would have this kind of difficulty. Please beware of this when USING MATCH DOT COM and MAKE SURE YOU DON'T END UP BEING CHARGED $120.00 FOR SOMETHING YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE!!!

I misinterpreted the auto-renewal date as being the last date of my paid period. I made an honest mistake. I set a reminder on my calendar to cancel my subscription on the last day of my period (which turned out to be the "auto renewal" date) and that morning I sent one last email to a member I was communicating with. Because of this email, I was told I could not receive a refund. After going through many stages of anger and confusion regarding this, my main question remains: Why can't I receive a pro-rated refund? I cancelled mere HOURS after the auto-renewal, because I made an HONEST mistake and misinterpreted the renewal date for the last date of my subscription! I paid for two months, I was a paying customer and they can't work with me on this honest mistake? It's absolutely ridiculous, and more so because they make many efforts to trick and confuse their customers into this trap.
When I signed up, they never said anywhere in plain font that I would be auto-renewed. That fact alone is proof of the incredible dishonesty of the Match.com auto-renewal policy. They hide it in the fine print. They claim that the auto-renewal policy is to prevent loss of communication between members. That digital information does not just magically disappear when someone's paid period ends. That information is absolutely recoverable. If someone wants to continue communicating, they can simply sign up again. There is no need for Match to auto renew to "prevent" this from happening. If Match really was concerned about this happening, they would simply send an email reminder that your account will be expiring in a couple days and if you want to avoid a lapse in communication, you have to sign up again, that simple! Why not offer a pro-rated discount?!

I look through the terms and service of Match.com and nowhere does it explicitly state that as a paying member, I cannot receive emails back from a person if they are not a member. The inference is that since I am a paid member, no matter who I send an email to, I will be able to get a reply. This is false and very misleading by the company. I contacted the company through their 800 number and explained that and even told them I would accept being charged for 1 month instead of the current 6 months I signed up. I initially spoke with a rep named Michael and then after being on hold for almost 10 minutes, I was put through to a supervisor.
The supervisor, Kaila, with whom I spoke with, stated there was nothing she could do and that was the end of it. Oh, they did offer to stop my auto-renewal! Also, I am less than a week in on a 6-month purchase. I wish I would have looked online to see the lawsuits have already been filed against them for this exact practice. I would not recommend this company in any way, shape or form and would like to see about either becoming part of the class action lawsuit or start another one, basically stating they put one item forth but it could be considered a bait and switch with what I actually received.

I experienced multiple "likes" but no return chats or e-mails from any of them. When someone looked at my profile, 65% of them disappeared out of the database within the hour. Mostly scammers or impersonators from overseas, Ghana more than likely. The total lack of traffic in the Phoenix market is what got me. Clearly stated in my profile "I am looking for someone in the Phoenix area." I get hits from across the country, highly impractical, and even one from China.
I went to the Match.com Online Customer Service chat room to talk to a customer care specialist, Wilfredo **, told him of my dissatisfaction with the low number of hits in the Phoenix AZ market and what I have been experiencing. Although very sympathetic, and stated that online, they would not negotiate even a partial refund. Then asked for a supervisor, Kelvin **. I called in to the customer service line referenced the chat call log number (**) and verbally got the same from the initial help desk person and his supervisor Jose. Their customer service is cold and well rehearsed. No one gets any sort of refund or compromise no matter what plan you are on. Surprising enough I got an automated e-mail to review their customer service. The same information I have put here went into the survey. If you use this site I would recommend using a prepaid credit card with only enough money in it to pay for your membership. The only way your account can be deleted is by not accessing the site for over a year!!! Another thing I can't totally prove however I am pretty sure on is the daily matches are sent to you based on not how well you match but based on other people's membership is coming up for renewal.. When you view your matches you can't see when the person last logged in without going through a few hoops to view their whole profile. Also all the time I see fake profiles go up then disappear. I finished my one month and thought it would just keep going unless I canceled; however, I went to log in on my mobile app and it told me the app was only for subscribers. So I tried again, same thing.
I then logged in from the web address and I only had access as if I did not pay to subscribe. I wasn't able to view emails or write emails. So I thought ok my subscription is canceled, awesome. I actually didn't want to extend it and at that point felt no need to call. Two days later, I saw I received a message from my app. I thought that was funny since I wasn't subscribed anymore but I went on and replied back. I then got curious and looked at my bank account. I saw the 37$ was taken out so I immediately went in to cancel my subscription online.
When I did, it said it would end on 11/2/13 which was a month from now. I took that as in I am still going to be charged for this month. So I called their customer support. The first person I spoke to was really nice, but told me I wasn't eligible for a refund since I used the services since the renewal. I found that to be strange and honestly upsetting. I even asked for a partial refund and she said I could not have that either. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me the same. I was getting quite frustrated as to I couldn't afford to extend and they were not willing to help. I even explained what happened two days ago and they said "we don't offer partial refunds."
They did offer or could offer a partial refund if I had subscribed for longer but since I was at the lowest time of subscription that they could not. Now how is that fair? I was a paying customer. Their services for me stopped allowing me to believe my subscription was cancelled. I even told them I had emails saying "he messages you ease subscribe to view." They basically kept saying since I used it today that I wasn't able to get refunded. If I had known that I would not have used it and I still didn't mind paying for one day of service. In the end, I never was helped. I was offered to block my profile and stop the messages, but I was still having to pay for it all.
I wanted to have a good experience with this being my first subscription but I did not. I realize I could be to blame as a human making a small mistake and not calling sooner but how was I to know. I just wanted to see how it was. I didn't find anyone and now I'm stuck in it for another month. Paid an almost crazy amount to just try and find someone and didn't and now I'm out. I find it sad they are so willing to help people find happiness and love and we as humans will do anything for love even pay high amounts for a dating sight but they are not willing to help us when things go wrong and most of it was on their end.
I will never use a dating site again and I will never recommend their services to anyone. Their customer service reps may have been nice, but their policies and procedures made them out to sound and be as if they just wanted to make money and not care that it affected their customer. So warning, if you do not intend to renew your subscription, call a month in advance to insure they cancel it.

I even took a screenshot of the confirmation my account was deactivated yet they still insist on sending me matches. Do not join this site because they will not let you leave. When you reactivate your account to delete the email address, you can't delete it. You have to change it to another email address and then because you DID that, you have to then wait 48 hours before you can deactivate it again. Talk about them being paranoid about losing members. Oh and guess what, you can't even delete a photo once it has been added. Again paranoid. I'm going to copy and paste this on every review site on the internet!!!

What an INSANE week. First of all, I've just been through the WORST period of my life. I lost a custody battle for my daughter to my ex-wife. I've never thought of dating at my age (54, but could easily pass for 40!) so I tried Christian Mingle and Match.com. I'm SO glad that you have this site to WARN people against joining. I hope that I can add to your discussion in a helpful way.
First, Christian Mingle. I decided to try it so I went on the site and uploaded a profile. Easy enough. Keep in mind that I have not paid anything yet (and NEVER will) but I started getting smiles and emails right away. Over the last week, I've received a total of 54 emails but here's the catch. Of those 54, only 2 (I'll say that again) ONLY TWO are still on there. I got a LOT of young girls with beautiful pictures who would email me and for whatever reason, the next day they would be gone. I figured that somehow these are girls whose profiles were unacceptable (after all, it's a Christian site) or were flagged for some sexual violation - but come on, 52 OF THEM IN ONE WEEK > NO WAY!!! Today I woke up to find 5 new emails on there. One of them was gorgeous and to tell you the truth, my profile is awesome and I'm extremely good looking. I had prayed that if God wants me to join this site, at least one of these girls would be there by the end of the day. Guess what? One by one, they were all gone by 4 pm.
Now as for Match. com. WAY WORSE > My first experience was to upload my pictures and create a profile. Just like Christian Mingle, it's really easy. Once I set it up and filled out the proper information, I just sat back and was blown away. Nothing but gorgeous women winking at me. I will say that I like the setup at match.com better than Christian Mingle, but the results are the same. They entice you to join by making you feel that these women are interested in you. Don't buy it! One by one, these women quit smiling and when you try to smile back, half of them have made their profile unavailable. Match.com swears that they do not supply phony profiles and I believe them. These photos are real and probably DO belong to these girls. What I think they are doing is randomly picking pretty girls and putting them on your site to make you think they are interested. Big difference but same result.
So on with my story. After I didn't join (spend any money), I started getting email alerts that so-and-so made me a favorite. These girls were ordinary (but pretty) girls and all from out of state. I outsmarted them by using their search feature to locate who they were. I used the age and zip codes and availability to pinpoint exactly who they were. I then looked at the photo of them and viewed it against the blocked photos (that you have to PAY to actually see). You could tell by the little bit of photo that they were the same person. Then I would wink at them. Guess what happened next? Almost every one of them blocked their profile from me after they saw that I had winked. In case you're wondering, I look GREAT in my pictures so that was NOT the reason they did this. I believe that Match.com randomly picks out legitimate girls (without their knowledge) and says that they favorite someone.
What I did next was to contact them via their chat line. This guy swore up and down that these are legitimately interested girls who really wanted to talk to me, but since I wasn't a paid subscriber, they gave up. Oh really? I would actually buy that if it were a day or so later, but 10 minutes late - NO !@! @#N WAY!
Here's where it really goes south. I wasn't satisfied with this guy's explanation so I emailed another question asking it like this: "Can you please explain to me why anyone in their right mind would make someone a 'favorite' and 10 minutes later, block their profile?" Guess what happened next? I got no response and the email alerts suspiciously stopped coming in. I was getting at least 6 notices per day that someone had made me a favorite (17 on Saturday night alone!!) and all of a sudden, ZERO!!
THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL I WOULD JOIN EITHER OF THESE DATING SERVICES, AND I AM SO GLAD (LET ME REPEAT THAT) SOOOOOO GLAD THEY DIDN'T GET ANY OF MY MONEY. THANK YOU JESUS.

I was on Match about 6 months. I dated 2 persons and they've been looking for serious relationships and serious about it. Although I agree with other people's comments, you never know and you need to be careful and be smart who you're really actually talking to because during that time I have received fake profiles too. Also some people are just there for fun, player and want to use Match for only sexually relationship. At first, they act like he gives you respect and likes you and is interested in you but after a month, you see his real face, so if you're looking for serious, long and respectful relationships, just be careful and be smart who you're dating with. Match.com could be useful but a lot of scam artists and users there too. So if you meet with someone, try to get to know him really good and make sure he is serious with you and showing his respect to you before you start dating with him.

DOES ANYONE FROM CONSUMER AFFAIRS ACTUALLY READ THESE? WHAT AUTHORITY DO THEY HAVE TO RESOLVE THESE ISSUES? I sent the following email to the Minnesota Department of Commerce:
I am writing to find out how online dating services, specifically Match.com, are regulated. I'm talking about regulation of the subscription itself, not how it monitors its users. When someone purchases a 3-month subscription, I believe they should have 3 months of service. I purchased a 3-month subscription, used it for a month, then suspended it. About 4 months later I reactivated the account, expecting that I still had 2 months left on the subscription, only find that is not the case. I think it should be similar to purchasing a magazine or newspaper subscription, which can both be put on hold then reactivated, or like a Groupon is always redeemable for the purchase value, even if the term of the deal has expired.
Another issue is that, during this reactivation I was taken to a payment page. Since I thought I still had time left to use, I assumed they were simply asking what subscription level I had had previously, so I clicked on the 3-month subscription. I got a message telling me I had just paid for a 3-month subscription going forward. At that point I looked for a way to cancel the transaction and found no option for that.
I immediately attempted to contact match.com about the error. Since it was after business hours, the only option was to send an email via their online form (so I don't have a copy of the email I sent). I explained that I assumed I had 2 months left on my subscription and that I didn't want to be charged for an additional 3-month subscription. It was August 29. This is what the message reads about emails:
Email: Submit your question via our Contact Us web form, and one of our Customer Care Representatives will respond to your inquiry via email within 24 hours.
A week passed and I never got a response Meanwhile, I exchanged an email with another match.com user. On Sept 5, not having gotten a reply from match.com and seeing a charge on my credit card, I contacted match via their online chat option, where you can talk in real time via online message. I was told that a refund was not possible since I had exchanged an email via the service. I said, "that's right, I have an active subscription with 2 unused months left of service." I was told that there subscriptions were non-refundable.
So I called the customer care line and spoke to a service rep, explaining everything as I have above. I was told basically the same thing as the chat rep, that emails had been exchanged so they could not issue a refund. I said, "in that case, change my subscription to one month and refund the difference." She told me she couldn't do that, either. I said, "What is the incentive to purchase a 3-month subscription if there is a possibility that I won't use all of it?" She basically said, "it's cheaper." I said that didn't make any sense, and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was put on hold while one was fetched. Several minutes later, the rep came back to tell me all supervisors were on other calls. I waited on hold several more minutes, was told again that supervisors were unavailable and would I like one to call me back. I said yes, I would.
It was 10 am. At 2 pm, I had not received a call, so I called them back. I got the same rep and she got a supervisor on the phone to talk to me. He also told me that they would not refund my money or reduce my subscription to one month. I asked to speak to his supervisor, and he told me that, to escalate the complaint, I would have to send an email. I explained that that was the first thing I had done when I initially realized the mistake and that, despite their promise of responding within 24 hours, I had not received a response.
However, I sent another email, via the online form (again, I have no evidence of having sent the email). That was last Thursday, Sept 5. It's Sept 11 and I have still not gotten a response. Please let me know how to proceed from here with this complaint and if you can help me get a refund.

Crappy experience. Signed up on the site, spent half an evening filling in account info, looking for appropriate pics to upload etc, paid for a 3 month subscription plan straight up ($70) - only to find out in the morning that my account had been blocked. I reached out to customer service, who told me that it would be best for the Match.com community to eliminate my profile - and they referred me to the terms of use, so I would work out myself what I had done wrong.
I reread the stupid rules again, unable to understand why I was charged and blocked. Customer service told me this time that there are plenty of scammers on Match.com from my part of the world (Eastern Europe) and that's why it's in the best interests of the "community" to keep me out. Why the ** charge me and let me register in the first place? I asked specifically which provision of the terms of use I violated - and was told that I need to hire a legal rep in order to sort this out. I was one very angry and helpless Ukrainian girl. So, I was refused a refund - but the money - thank god - was returned to my bank account in a couple of days. Never ever am I doing this internet thing again.

I signed up for a free trial of Match.com, and after the first two days really knew the site and service was not for me. I was being contacted by men old enough to be my grandfather or by men in Sweden and other foreign countries. I went online and accessed my account the evening before I'd been advised my free trial would expire in order to cancel my subscription. You can imagine my dismay when a message displayed advising me that my membership could not be cancelled as my payment was being processed. I contacted the customer service at Match both over the phone and via the website to try to resolve the situation and neither were willing to help. I've now been refused a refund and advised that my account can and will not be deleted, despite the fact I have removed all photographs and information from my profile and have only used the messaging service to contact Match customer services.
Basically, I've been charged 29.99 to display a blank page on a website I have no intent on using for the next 30 days. I work in customer service for a leading UK company and frankly if Match are showing the poor level of service I have received, I am quite simply dumbstruck as to how they are still operating with any customers at all, let alone satisfied ones. I advise you to keep your money in your bank account, not in the pockets of Match.com CEOs.

Sure, I encountered some fake profiles, but they're pretty easy to identify and are infrequent (I think generally used in areas where a lot of people aren't using Match.com). It was really easy to meet people and go on dates, but it was impossible to find someone worth going on a second date with. After 9 months, I tweaked my criteria by adding a year to the maximum age and voila, Mr. 97% match was there. The 3% off 100% comes from me looking for someone younger and him looking for someone a bit older. We're 10 years apart and went months without seeing each other on Match.com because of the age we were searching for. We are together, have purchased a home, and have plans of marriage. He is absolutely PERFECT for me, although the path to find him was pretty rough.
Match.com is a fantastic way to LOOK for the traits you want. Your ideal man may not be on the site at present time, but inventory is constantly changing. ;) To help reduce my membership costs, I would sign up for a month and at the end of the month try and cancel while citing finances as my issue for quitting. I was immediately offered 3 months for the price of 1. I consistently received this offer and was only paying $30 for every 3 months.
Overall, you get what you put into it. Dating becomes work, and it's not even fun after awhile, but your chances of finding "the one" increase with the more people you meet and interact with.
I am one of the Match.com people with a happy ending. (I am a real, honest to God person who does NOT work for Match.com!!) Yes, I thought it sucked at times and wanted to quit. Sometimes I did take a break. What I did NOT do was settle for someone because they were "mostly" what I was looking for. People that "have it all" do exist. They are rare and you probably won't stumble upon them on your own while in the real world. My ideal man wound up living 3 blocks from me the whole time, and we would have NEVER met without the help of Match.com. Because of my end result, I give Match.com 5 stars.

I signed up for Match.com and then within 6 hours decided this was not the site for me, so I then cancelled my membership. HOWEVER you do not get a refund for signing up to Match.com. Instead, cancelling only stops the automatic renewal. The email I received from Match.com specifically states "Confirmation of Membership Cancellation" NOT cancellation of renewal. This is a scam to get people to sign up and pay lots of money and not be able to cancel the site completely without a refund (even a prorated refund would be OK). I contacted Match.com via phone and was told that I would not get a refund, because I replied to a wink. Just one contact on Match.com with another member eliminates any refund through Match.com. I didn't post the photos because of that and no man wants to reply to profile without photos. I don't know how Match can let so many offenders online. It is very scary for any woman out there. I asked Match to just confirm if those were fake or worse, etc. but they denied it. "Privacy" they say.. And I ask what privacy????? Those are fake profiles so nobody's privacy is intruded!!!!!!
Bad, bad, bad... Won't see me on that site anymore... And for any woman out there using dating sites, pay monthly fee on Spokeo or Anywho or even white pages and check those e-mails and phone numbers... Trust me I encountered men with phone numbers, company web sites, names and photos which all seem to be real and legit... Don't be naive, check, little monthly fee for peace of mind.. Good luck.

I have only been signed up with Match for approximately 2 weeks. In that time I have had numerous winks, likes and a few e-mails. 90% of these appear to be scammers. I have a test message from someone written in another language entirely. He goes back and forth from that to English, and will not talk on the phone. Only text.
You can tell these scammers by the information they place or do not place in their profiles, pictures or lack thereof, and the fact that they always send you to a yahoo e-mail address to communicate. I always request to chat on the phone right off the bat because that is one way to confirm who you may be dealing with. But again you never know.
I have been on other dating sites; however, I have not been on one that has so many of the same/similar profiles, which is a dead give-a-way. While some items I am listing below are not meant for all scammer profiles, however, the majority of the ones I have been seeing the past couple of weeks follow this pretty closely:
1. All of a sudden every man is a Widow. I find that odd.2. They do not have children. Again a bit odd
3. They do not smoke, but don't care if you do. Seriously??? How many people do you know that do not smoke yet will date a smoker? A few maybe, but not as many as I have been seeing.
4. If you read the profile close enough, you can see where they have copied and pasted a portion of it; however, they may add something to it and the words or tone do not match the rest of the profile.
5. Pictures are either non-existent, far away, have no one else in the picture but them or have no captions as to where they were taken or what year.
6. They have a job that requires them to travel a lot, military or do not live in your area, but looking to retire soon.
7. They mark "no preference" on almost everything pertaining to their match. I don't know about you, but I have some preferences.
Match needs to scrutinize their profiles better. I have the names of a few that need to be looked into, so if you want to contact me feel free.

As other reviewers have noted, many of the profiles seem suspiciously fake -- I get winks from many people with amazingly attractive photos (I am only about average) with no profiles written, who seem to disappear and reappear. Waste of time. Also, yesterday I received an email from Match stating they were cancelling my account (but will not issue a refund for the unused portion) as, they claimed "you have been using the site to send advertising messages." In fact I had nothing of the sort. I had not sent any messages; but what I had done was wrote on my profile that people should consider donating to the Red Cross, Save the Children or the UN to help with the crisis in which now over 1 million Syrian kids have become refugees.
The distinction is crucial -- I did not email this to anyone on the site (that would have been intrusive); rather, this information would only have been seen by someone who actively chose to visit my site, thus it was totally avoidable. Unlike, I would note, the many spam emails which Match has sent me in the past trying to get me to join. The irony is thick. Also, is an appeal on behalf of bona fide charities a commercial "advertisement"? It's not like I'd asked anyone to send money to me. Here is what I had posted to my profile:
"The UN now reports that over 1 million Syrian children are refugees. It is a messy conflict, making it hard to know who, if anyone, are the 'good guys' -- but what *is* clear is that the number of victims is huge, and that we can all help, right now. Reputable agencies such as the Red Cross, Save the Children and the UN's refugee agency (UNHCR) accept donations by PayPal -- so doing the right thing only takes a moment and a mouse-click. Every little bit helps!"
Finally -- what sort of ethics do they have if they are unable to step back and absorb the magnitude of the tragedy of 1 million child refugees, and they object to. While not pleased about their failure to refund the unused portion of my subscription, I am more than happy to end my association with them. A few choice words come to mind which politeness forbids me from posting here.

I also found pictures of men who would be on the site one day under one name, account no longer available the next day and then back on within a day under a new name. I decided to do a test. I intentionally winked at all the men I thought were extremely hot, model type just to see what would happen. All the men winked back within a day. Ok, I consider myself an attractive woman, but certainly not a model type and not the type men drool over. To have all the men respond certainly raised my suspicions.
Ok, so now my turn to reciprocate. I didn't waste any time and tried to make immediate contact, but as I suspected their accounts were no longer available. I kept looking and found that these same hot guys were still there but under a different name. I contacted Match.com about this and they denied any unethical activity on their part. I wanted a refund as all this suspicious activity happened within a 3 week span. I did not get a refund for the time used but I was successful at canceling my account. I had been on other sites before and never had anything like this happen before. It is my opinion that someone is putting up false profiles to entice people to join.

I am livid that I'm now stuck with a 12 month subscription. When I joined at midnight around August 10th, I had no idea I would be paying for a 12 month bundled subscription and I had no idea that NO CHANGES to the plan would be allowed. Match employees claim people are warned about this, but the warning is inserted on the billing page where credit card information is entered. Since I missed this warning it must have been deliberately embedded in language regarding privacy for credit card payments and in super fine print since I have never made this mistake with other online dating services. Additionally, I'm a lawyer so I do read warnings when it's CLEARLY PROVIDED.
This information should be given on the page where prices are set out. PEOPLE SHOULD BE TOLD THAT NO ALTERATIONS TO THE SUBSCRIPTION ARE ALLOWED. Furthermore, there is NO justification for not allowing people to change the plans other than sticking people with an expensive service that is UNWANTED!!!! I had a Match subscription years ago and in retrospect this kind of DECEPTIVE billing is PRECISELY WHY I LEFT, WILL NEVER COME BACK, WILL TELL EVERYONE ABOUT MISLEADING PRICING AND BILLING, AND WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS SERVICE TO OTHERS! After a week my email was bombarded with what appeared to be other member's interest in my profile winks, emails, added to favorites, etc. This happened on a daily basis. Of course they have it setup where you can't even see who was interested until you purchased a membership. I figured since there was so much interest I would get the 3 month membership. Well, after they took my money, I logged in and found only 1 email was sent to me and one wink. Strange that I was sent notifications daily with several interests and my inbox only had on message. Obviously this is a scam to get people to pay for a membership.
Also, I noticed that the quality of men on Match.com was very low. So after not even a week I requested a refund. I was informed that no refunds are given. I learned my lesson to read the fine print. So please be aware in their terms of agreement If you cancel your subscription, you may use your subscription until the end of your then-current subscription term; your subscription will not be renewed after your then-current term expires. However, you won't be eligible for a prorated refund of any portion of the subscription fee paid for the then-current subscription period. I would NEVER recommend this site to anyone!

I followed everything required to qualify for their guarantee - sent more than enough emails, kept my profile active and always had a photo up. Much to my surprise, they charged me for another 6 months in June. When I called, they claimed I did not qualify because I did not answer a final question. I never saw this question on the site or in email. Furthermore, this question is not mentioned as a requirement to get this guarantee. They refused to credit my card because more than 30 days had passed. I plan to take them to small claims court to recover BOTH charges.
The one in June because it was completely unexpected and should never have been put through because of the guarantee. The first charge because I signed up contingent upon this so-called guarantee. By not honoring it, this would be considered a breach of contract. I hope others see this and go the small claims court route even if it may not seem like a lot of money for the effort. This goes beyond money - companies should not do things like this and will only stop when it becomes a problem for them. Enough people suing them would certainly be a problem wouldn't it?

I joined Match.com. I didn't meet anyone. I then figured I'd try it again some months later after my subscription expired. I tried again. They kept sending people to me on my old account name, but not on my new account name. When I tried to contact these people I was told that I couldn't because I wasn't paid under the old name anymore. Yet the new name wasn't getting any people responding. They said I would have to pay for the old name if I wanted to get the responses.
I said I had a paid subscription, but under a different name - for example - nice girl instead of pretty girl (made up names - not what I use). I asked them not to have responses sent to the first name anymore, just to the second name. They said ok. That lasted for a few weeks. Now they're sending the responses to the first name again and I can't respond to anyone. I'm paid up but I can't get to any matches.

I took advantage of their 6 free months offer and was a member for a full year. I set up a nice profile and sent out hundreds of thoughtful, individually tailored emails. I never meet anyone. I don't mean I never met anyone "special" - I never met a single woman face-to-face. There are several factors you should consider before paying Match.com any money: 1) Men greatly outnumber women, so if you're a man your odds are low. 2) Anyone can set up a profile on Match.com without actually joining, but they can't send or receive messages until they pay and join. As a member you can't tell if a profile your viewing is a member or not, so you don't know if your messages are even being received. 3) Match.com is full of scam profiles. Most of the few email responses I got were in broken English from supposed women in Russia or Afghanistan or South America, even though their profiles said they lived near me. They always asked for money by the second or third email.
I would not recommend Match.com to anyone. Yes, they do have their success stories, but the odds are simply not in your favor. Going to Match.com to find a relationship is like playing slot machines to earn a living.

Let me tell you the REALITY of Match.com. The reality is that there are a TON more men on Match.com than women (STRIKE ONE). Net result? Almost ZERO replies to over one hundred emails sent. I've probably received 2 replies for over one hundred emails sent. On a DAILY basis, I have to exclude anywhere from 3 to 5 FAKE PROFILES - YES, DAILY (STRIKE TWO). Match.com does NOTHING to protect its members from the bazillions of fake profiles created daily - I'll even send an email to these fake profiles CUSSING THEM OUT, and guess what?
I get a nasty gram from Match.com saying I AM VIOLATING the user agreement. (STRIKE THREE) Meanwhile, Match.com allows countless fake profiles to be created DAILY, wasting ALL OF THE MEMBERS' TIME. I wouldn't doubt that Match.com ITSELF is the entity creating all of these fake profiles. UNREAL. I can truly say, that Match.com IS COMPLETELY WORTHLESS. STAY AWAY FROM IT. DO WHAT OTHERS HAVE STATED. MEET "REAL" PEOPLE IN "REAL" LIFE. MATCH.COM SUCKS BIG **.

I enjoyed meeting new people and faithfully completed all requirements for the 6-month guarantee except for the "fine print" of answering a question during the last 7 days of the 6-month period. This requirement is not stated on the 6-month guarantee page. The customer service representative told me to go to "Help" and type 6-month guarantee and then you will find it "clear as day." But, who would go look up the fine print telling me to be available at my computer the last 7 days of the 6 months. I was on vacation during that week and although I have all Match messages forwarded to my phone... they informed me that the question is not forwarded as correspondence to my phone... So needless to say, I missed answering that one question and was automatically renewed. I did not find out about it until my credit card statement came in. I called Match, but now I was past the 30 days (by 4 days) and they wouldn't credit me. All they did was offer me another month free after I continue for the next 6 months. They stated that they would not automatically renew my account. So, I asked for this all to be stated in an email and sent to me, so that I have written documentation of the new agreement. I wish everyone else a better time with the "fine print" of Match.com.

I called customer service and they said that they require the billing information so they can set up automatic renewal of the account. I tried to explain to them that I just want to use the service for just one month and if I needed to renew, I would do it then. But, NO, they need your credit card information and there was no way around it. The funny thing is that they were trying to convince me that they were doing it for my convenience.
I told them that Match.com is not my life support system and even if I like the service so much, I can definitely survive without it for a few days. I am very careful providing any personal information on the internet, and when a company asks so intensely for my credit card information, especially when it is so clear they don't need it for the purchase, I am getting very suspicious, especially in the spy area we are living in. Good luck with all of you who have subscribed to Match.com. I got really discouraged and pretty suspicious.

I received a confirmation email indicating my account had been cancelled. Even after I cancelled, I was still charged and told that they would not be allowed to refund my charges for any reason. After talking with their supervisors, they informed me there was nothing that could be done. You receive multiple emails like this for a while. However, once you sign on to the service and set your notifications to receive emails, you receive NO NOTIFICATIONS AT ALL. You have to go into the site to receive your notification, which totally contradicts the service you sign up for. Your settings can be set to receive email notifications, but you receive NONE.

I signed onto this service in April and paid for three months upfront. On June 6 I was suddenly unable to sign on. When I inquired with the service, I was eventually told that I had been terminated. No reasons were provided for the dubious reason of protecting privacy. The entire experience and their bafflegab reminds me of nothing so much as a story by Kafka or the Soviet Union, where a person is punished without being told what they are being punished for. I didn't think this kind of thing could happen in North America, but there it is.
When I asked for a refund, I was told I had not submitted a subpoena! I have no idea what I could possibly have done to merit termination, as all my pictures were approved and I had not communicated with more than 3-4 people via internal mail in the time that I was using the service. Moreover, initially I was swamped by contacts from men who were obvious pickup artists and were giving me phone numbers, emails and so on, which is clearly against Match.com's rules (supposedly). I began using Match.com nearly ten years ago to meet women in my area and it was great back then. Over the years, the site has gone down the tubes. When the internet and online dating was still fresh, new and coming into its own, all you had to contend with is men and women who were professionals, knew how to actually use a computer (or at least get by on one) and were looking for other decent people to hang out with. Fast forward to present, when literally every joker in the world is connected via cell phones, iPads or in a Starbucks, you now have this generation of folks who are just complete imbeciles to tolerate.
Match.com does absolutely nothing to weed out the phonies from the fakes, the scammers from the real people, and the nonchalant from the serious-minded. Quite frankly, they just don't care. It's all setup to make people fail, keep taking your money and providing people with an illusion that they might actually meet someone like-minded. For every fifty people who are on the site, you "might" meet 1-2 of them. And for every 100 people, two of those people might actually date or be in a relationship. Then from there, even a smaller percentage actually fall in love and settle down. Don't believe me? Do the math and crunch the numbers with the amount of people online versus the amount of people who actually have success stories.
They have these silly little high school tools such as winking, "liking" a photo and being able to make someone a favorite, that don't promote anything other than confusion. You learn that just because someone likes your photo doesn't mean they like you or are interested. It's no different than someone seeing your picture on Facebook, liking it and leaving a comment. It doesn't mean anything other than the person giving their two cents worth. (Most of the time, some are actually interested, but rarely. they're just bored and being nice.)
When it comes to writing your profile, don't dare try to have any type of personality. If the employed staff on Match.com read your profile and don't like something they read, they will actually REMOVE portions of things that YOU typed. Unreal! Talk about Big Brother, holy crap. This has happened to me quite a few times and I've launched tickets their way only to only receive zero response. They just don't care and are happy ensuring that you stay as bland as possible which would make even the most disciplined of monks want to commit suicide. It almost feels like a religious cult. YOU CAN'T BE YOURSELF. Express yourself how you want to in order to weed out the weirdo's because how dare you might insult someone you won't get along with in the first place (which is the point of a profile anyways to see if you click with that person before communicating with them).
Want to waste your time, money and give yourself a headache? Join Match.com but know beforehand this online company does not have the public's best interest in mind. It's billion dollar a year industry and all about keeping people single by not truly helping individuals find what they're looking for.

Upon closer examination of the email, it is apparent that it is not from Match.com. There are minor discrepancies in the email address (e.g., match..c0m) that show the email is from someone other than Match. The email appears to be exploiting a security hole in the cookie that lets Match users access their accounts without logging in each time. I can only assume that this malware is allowing someone to access my account.

I had been a member on Match.com for over a year and a half. I did find someone and dated for about 7 months. During that time, I hid my profile and stopped my subscription. Unfortunately, things did not work out with the woman and we parted ways. Last night, I went back onto Match.com, un-hid my profile and signed up for 3 months of service. After signing up, I was able to update my profile and send an email to a potential date. Now this is where it gets good. About two hours later, I get an e-mail from Match.com stating that my account has been blocked and I was supposed to call a 1-800 number.
I called the number and it was Backgroundchecks.com, the company that does checks for Match.com. They informed me that they blocked my account because of something that came up on a report that they ran on me. They then told me that I needed to contact Match.com for more information. I called Match.com and they said that they are not supplied this information so I would need to call Backgroundchecks.com back to rectify the problem. Long story short, I got nowhere by talking to Backgroundchecks.com and the process of getting my record cleared, for whatever is on the report, sounds like a complete hassle.
So, my problem is: 1) Why does Match.com not have more control over the company that they use to do the background checks? I did research and Backgroundchecks.com is not BBB-accredited but the BBB still gave them an overall rating of C+. 2) Why does Match.com activate accounts before the background process has been completed? After being on the phone for an hour last night trying to get this issue resolved, I asked Match.com for a refund. They told me that they could not refund my money because my account was blocked and because I agreed to the terms, they could not refund my money. From a consumer's standpoint, this sounds like a scam in that a background check is not performed first before taking your money. I understand the reasoning and logic behind the background checks and I am glad they do that. What gets me is that I now have to prove my innocence and this will cost me more money.
After I got off the phone, I did a background check on myself through Beenverified.com. Beenverified.com is not BBB-accredited either but the BBB gave them an overall rating of an A. And amazing, when I got my report, there was not one single criminal record, aliases, liens, or anything else that should have caused Backgroundchecks.com to block my Match.com. My criminal record is clean but now I wonder what I have to do to clear my name.
All I am asking for is a refund but I know that will not happen unless I go through Backgroundchecks.com and contest the report. So I am wondering how much that is going to cost me... and I wonder if Match.com will get a kick back! So really, this complaint is directed towards both Match.com and backgroundchecks.com.

Match.com is very deceptive in their practices. They let you believe that if you become a paid member, you can contact everyone on their site. This is true, but what Match.com doesn't tell you is that only the members that you write to that are paid subscribers can read your messages. If you, as a paid subscriber, write to a free member on their site, they cannot see who is writing to them, nor be able to read the message, nor write back, without first becoming a paid member themselves.
In other words, both members must be paid subscribers in order to communicate with each other. Their terms and conditions state that a free member has limited features and a subscriber can communicate with all members. Again, their terms and conditions leave out the fact, that even though you as a paid subscriber can communicate with all members, the free member cannot communicate back without first becoming a paid member (subscriber). Match.com is trying to double dip.

Then they locked me out of the site, but I told them I will let anyone know how sleazy they are at every chance I can.
Men are still contacting me from the site and believe me, I send them an earful. I also pointed out to Match.com that I had clicked no smoking and ** males only, but they kept offering all races and smokers. They told me that it was not a deal breaker. But I explained that it was one for me, but I guess I don't know what is right for me and Match does. What a creepy business.

After many attempts over the next week to find out the problem customer service eventually sent automated reply and said was in the best interest of other subscribers? I never was told why but that I could legally subpoena the records. And by the way, even though I never used the service and was approved, I was not eligible for a refund! Beware all!

This is one of the sleaziest dating sites on the Internet. There's no way to delete your account (only "disable" it) or remove your personal info from their site. You can't even change your email or clear personal information (there's a form, but it doesn't actually work) to prevent them from reselling your data to their sleazy partners. I signed up for one month with Match.com. Suddenly that day, I was getting emails from a site called Ourtime.com which I have never even heard of. So I responded to the emails, winks, etc, and I noticed that my profile and information was exactly like mine on Match.com, and even the misspelled word was the same. So I thought ok, Match.com has a sister site. I get two for one like several sites do even though it was never mentioned in their contract, etc. Little did I know that, after about two weeks, a bunch of low life, Match.com gave all my information to Ourtime.com and even charged me the same day without my permission! Never once was anything said about an additional charge or that my profile would be used elsewhere.
I have now gone into web browsing and found out both are owned by the same company. You give your information, they use your profile, and in this case, my debit card information, and charge you for the other site even though I, again, had never heard of it. I surely never signed up for it or gave them my permission to do so. It's a scam people. So be sure to check your debit and credit cards for unauthorized purchases from these sites and fight it like I am doing.

Then suddenly, without any warning, my account was terminated due to harassing email, misrepresentation/married/or other. These were the reasons given. The company will not tell me why this happened and will not refund my money. I paid for a full month and only got a week. This company, according to other consumer sites, does this a lot to paying customers.

The customer service and manager experience was awfully offensive, rude and accusatory. This business is either going out of business (and therefore is trying to get any money it can before going out) or is some fraudulent system that needs to be brought back to earth (the USA's earth and not some third world country, abusive type of land).

I paid $59.97 for a 3-month subscription. Nobody showed interest in my profile. No emails or winks (quick message indicating interest) or being added to someone's favorites list. Fair enough, nobody was interested so I didn't renew my subscription. Two days after my subscription expired, Match sent me a message that "Someone is interested in you" but to find out who it is, I would have to renew my subscription. Seemed suspicious, but possibly just a coincidence. However, the next day, there were 2 more messages from Match. Somebody added me to their favorites list and another showed interest. Today a fourth person is interested.
I hope Match clients with similar experience can come together and either seek compensation from Match.com or at least induce them to change their practices.

This site is infested with online dating scammers! I caught 5 in one day, myself! Their customer service department says they have a team of specialists that vet new members. I believe that's a lie! Why can I catch them and their specialists can't? I wasted more time getting rid of the scammers than I did actually using the site! When you have a new subscriber who looks like an 18-year-old model and she's seeking men between the ages of 22-80, something's wrong! They can't see that? I asked for a prorated refund and they refused! A majority of these scammers are from Africa and they cause a lot of heartache and confusion for those new to online dating. Their "scientific" matching service consists of two or three common interests two people have. Like, you both like sunsets and walks or you both like the color blue! That's hardly scientific! They don't provide much of a service. I've had better success standing in line at the supermarket.
While refusing my refund, they had the audacity to offer to turn off my automatic renewal! That's already an option, which anyone with a mouse and a little common sense can do themselves! I can all but guarantee that they don't vet new subscribers. All they're interested in is pulling in more new members and getting them locked into a never ending renewal cycle! Customer service is a joke. They offer apologies but not real solutions! Stay away from Match.com. I don't really know of any that are truly professional.

I joined Match.com with an open mind, hoping to meet somebody since my career and a busy schedule leaves me with little time to go out and meet people. Initially when I joined, I would received several emails a day. But this eventually came to a stop. I would try to expand my search by clicking on a link, which allows you to see others of same characteristics. As months went by, I found that my matches often kept repeating themselves (I would see the same guys I get matched with months before). I would find most of my emails or winks would receive no response or not even a viewing. The quality of guys I found on this site was a complete different story.
It seemed like most appeared to be successful, down to earth, looking for nice and down to earth girl who can carry on a conversation blah blah. But yet the picture would display shirtless (in some cases appeared to be practically naked and in some cases with picture of other females). Others contain unflattering, ridiculous and crude pics of themselves. Some would simply would vent in their profiles or even their screen names of how Match.com is their last resort to meet women. In the emails I did receive, many would vent on how creepy and weird their encounters were with their matches. May I add that the setting does not work and it appears some of those profiles may not be active. I am very disappointed with this site. I would not recommend it to anybody.

You can't see who has viewed your file, message anyone or even receive messages. When you click on one of those links to look at something, it just takes you to the page to subscribe. Then I read the fine print. It auto renews! Then you have to call and request for the auto renewal to stop. I just read the reviews on here stating how that was pretty much impossible. After reading everyone's reviews and realizing I can't see or do anything on there without paying, I deleted my account. But I did constantly, for the 8 hours I was a member, receive emails from them saying someone wants to meet you. I would go to the homepage and see no emails from any members. But in those emails there was always a link to subscribe so that I could read the email and find out who it was. Ripoff.

It said he was very interested in me and I should message him ASAP. I did and he was totally not interested. I contacted customer service several times to have his profile removed from my login page, as every time I saw his photo and how much Match said he was really into me, it was a stab in my heart that he was totally uninterested.
Customer service never responded. My six months ended. I asked for another 6 via the free deal. Not only did I not get it, they never even responded. I think the only way I could have gotten customer service to do anything is if I had sent them a message saying 2 jumbo jets were about to crash into their building. I keep getting Match stuff. I'm totally uninterested. They did a piss-poor job of matching me with compatible people; 6 months of me responding to almost every match I had, without success; and they were reneging on a guarantee. On Tuesday, March 19, I signed up for a 6-month subscription to Match.com. I paid online with my credit card. I set up my profile and indicated I was only interested in meeting women that lived within 100 miles of the Asheville, NC vicinity. I received a couple of messages, within my profile, from women who were a match and interested in me. I was under the impression these women were living within the parameters I requested in my profile. In fact, I had deep and personal conversations with each of them. This has started after I signed up.
However, I discovered this morning (3/22) that one was living in Nigeria and the other in Ghana, both in Africa. Then I discovered that each attempted to solicit money from me by Moneygram overseas. They claimed to be in need of money. The one in Nigeria had been texting and calling my cellphone on several occasions. I had to call the local Sheriff's office to complain. Then I called the merchant and spoke to Shandel, a representative. I explained my circumstances and politely requested a full refund since I only had been a member 3 days. She refused. I even asked if I could be charged for one month, which was one of the payment options. She still said no. I asked for a manager, Heather, and explained my situation, and was again denied the refund. I asked for her manager and was transferred. While on hold after a 22-minute phone call, I was disconnected.
I called back and asked for Heather's supervisor. The corporate office answered and, again, would not refund me. I asked for a supervisor again and Amanda came on the line. I explained my situation and she denied the refund. I asked for her superior, Chris, but she refused to transfer me to that person. I told her I was being harassed and she mentioned there was a fraud/security department handling those types of matters. When asked to transfer me to that department, she refused. Finally, I had to contact my bank to file a dispute for the charges.

I was a three-month subscriber with Match.com. I let the auto renewal process go on for another three months. During that next term, I clicked the auto renewal box so that it would not renew. Unbeknownst to me, I was still being charged for my email services but the add-on services were dropped. This is six months later. As soon as I went on to my profile to see what the billing specifications were, the following day, the profile was not accessible.
I then called up Match.com. The customer service agent was very robotic in reiterating the renewal process which I was already well-informed. With no solution, I decided to not continue the conversation with the poor lady and called the following day. I managed to speak to a manager after getting the same runaround from that customer service but not without her informing me that the same answer that I got from her would be the same answer I would be getting from her manager - and then I was placed on a brief hold.
The customer service agent from the day before had written in her notes that she was the one who canceled the subscription for me. That was not true; the subscription had ended five days prior to the conversation between her and I. The wording on stopping the renewal process is as follows:"Cancellation of subscription" - the next step is - "Do you want to confirm the cancellation of your membership," all of which can deter any customer who has paid their money to cancel if they are in the middle of courtship and a term of subscription!
The wording is such as to scare the customer from continuing the process. I was not deterred from continuing the cancellation process and accessed the box where auto renewal can be turned off but it did not work. I do not want my money back because I had used the services and wanted to continue to use the service, but they were unable to come to a resolution to this ridiculous play on words and disservice to their customer. By the way, the manager also stated at the end of his rebuttal that I can email corporate but that I would be getting basically the same answer from them. Hence I am not the only one who has ever complained and it is their legal right to continue conducting business the way they are.
Such arrogance! For these reasons and that this distastefulness of their service, I will use another service and speak truthfully about my experience with the sheer mention of the company, Match.com.
P.S. You can find this write up everywhere I may be able to post it.

I met some interesting people. I signed up for the three month service and planned to just let it lapse. Every time I checked the subscription status page, it did not mention that it would auto-renew. I went one day into a new period and it auto-renewed. In their FAQs, they say it's for our benefit so that we don't get cut off from communicating if it ends unexpectedly. That is why some services could warn you a day before with warnings such as “your service ends tomorrow”. That's not an excuse to auto-charge people for a renewed subscription. I emailed them about it several times with no response. Clearly, if the policy was designed for our benefit, they would make it quick and easy to undo the auto re-subscribe. I will follow up and try to call them soon, but they should just answer questions especially since it's been over a week, and I'm pretty sure they said I'd get a response in 24 hours. I do feel that I was screwed out of $60 on the auto-renew.
When I see their ads talking about “try for free”, that is totally bogus. You can set up an account, but you can't message anyone. It's basically useless until you pay. In the meantime, you get all these emails saying “women are interested in you”, “X number of people have viewed your profile”, etc. just to draw you in. The one Stir event I went to was good. There are a lot of interesting people on the site, although you will have to wait through a lot of girls who don't answer messages until you find them (guy's perspective).
Match is basically a shotgun approach to dating. It gives you 10 matches a day and a few random connections such as “you both like dogs” or “you both want kids someday”. You have a chance to meet interesting people, but it will still take a bit of work. The first two girls I met were interesting and accurate to their profile pictures. The last one actually looks better than on her profile and is pretty awesome to hang around. The business method is dishonest, but it doesn't need to be avoided completely. Just be aware of the auto-renew and make sure they don't keep charging you. As you proceed through the site, just be open-minded and don't expect too much. I will update this if they give me my money back, which I doubt.

I was auto renewed as I work and missed the cancel date, but my profile was supposed to be hidden. Little did I know it was not. I found this out 10 months after I had thought it had been removed. I met a gentleman on my own without the help of Match.com. We had been dating for about 9 months when someone he worked with that lived in another state saw us together and informed my boyfriend that I was on the dating service when I was not any longer. He did not believe me and what was a wonderful relationship has now ended because Match.com did not remove me from their site when I had requested 10 months ago.
I went back on to try to make sure it was deleted and there it was, but it was stating it was hidden and that no one could see it. This is not the case either as I found out when I called Match.com and was told that even though I had cancelled the service and my profile was no longer active and supposedly hidden from view, I found out that it still showed my profile after all these months! I was very upset and called the service. The customer service representative was extremely rude and made lots of excuses and tried to state that even though I cancelled and removed my profile from view, it was still able to be viewed. She interrupted me constantly and made it seem that it was my fault because I did log back on to try to disable it several times and it would not remove my photos or profile until I called and threatened to sue them.
Then for the first time, she stated she was going to remove me from their site. If I do find that I am still on their site after requesting it to be removed yet again, they will be hearing from my lawyers!

They then said that I was based in Canada, so it had nothing to do with them. I told them that was not the case as they were a corporation registered in the US. I urged them to return my $50 as it is a relatively small cost to them or keep it and pay much more in loss of reputation as I will not stay quiet and I will complain on any and every medium that will give me a voice, in addition to researching my legal rights on this matter. I decided to try Match.com because I was moving from SC to WA and I wanted to meet new people and go on dates. I uploaded recent and many photos of myself, my friends, family members, and even my dog that I adore. I wanted to take advantage of the six-month guarantee deal so I decided to email a handful of women with an introduction bursting with quality and sincerity. I spent a good fifteen to twenty minutes on each email. I had received zero responses from the recipients. I went ahead and pried into my curiosity and used the good ol' Google search engine to see reviews and chances of hits on this website and now regret even subscribing to this dismal, yet highly lucrative website.
It was then I had decided to do an experiment. What I had done next is randomly winked at nearly fifty members on the website. It could be that I am incredibly unattractive or completely boring in my profile, but I highly doubt that. I disbelieve almost every person contacted wouldn't have been interested in something as simple and humanly as a conversation. Not only had I done that, I went ahead and sent out about twelve, quickly written emails to see if I would receive a response. The result of all the activities I had done is I received one email where I have yet to determine if it is an authentic person, one wink from another member who I let know I was not interested in, and I have sent a total of fifty-one winks, to fifty-one different members. I received two likes, and when I clicked on that link, the two members who liked me, were practically non-existent, as their profile box read, Additional profile information unavailable.
Surely, there is something fishy here. I do acknowledge the fact that there are real people on this dating website, as I am typing this right now and see my profile in the public, but I highly doubt each individual in here is a real person who has signed up. There are many women that are highly attractive and borderline model-material with bouncy and likable personalities. I would have to suggest that, like many fake dating sites, a number of these profiles are abandoned or even fake for the main focus to lure in new customers. Match.com has done a tremendous job to advertise and take advantage of people interested in finding a true match. And for that, I sarcastically applaud them. I have yet to see a stir event be posted. Seattle, WA is a very populated and popular city, why wouldn't Match.com stir up more events with the various members they have in their database?
I mean wouldn't that be even more lucrative? But I believe they are patiently waiting for more customers to cough up the money and sign up onto their website where they will have a specific quota of active members. Save your time and your money and simply go to free websites and make a better effort on your own part to make yourself available and social. I learned my lesson and the six-month contract was quite a significant amount of money.

There are so many fake accounts and they send the same "daily matches" over and over. The few guys I did chat with were clearly looking for flings. Also, I have noticed that since signing up, they don't send emails telling me when someone has flirted or sent emails like before I signed up (I guess they have my money now). I wish I had spent my $80 on a new pair of shoes! I see complaints about them charging your credit card after you cancel; they will see some kind of crazy if they did that to me.

I was automatically renewed after 6 months on Match.com. When I called, I was told by two different people that I did not qualify for a refund because I had sent a match email out after the expiration date. I told them that I was not notified that my account had renewed and if I had been notified, I would have immediately canceled my subscription. They still refused to issue a refund. After threatening to file an FCC complaint, they finally relented and issued a full refund. I think it's totally unfair and misleading for Match.com to charge and only refund when they are threatened with an FCC complaint.

When I called them to inquire why, they claimed that their system showed I did not send enough emails per month. My contention that their guide did not differentiate went nowhere. Probably the worst site I've ever joined. I met a few guys for a meet up or a date and all of them were awkward to say the least. One guy was clearly gay. I think he was looking for someone he can prance around so his peers will not think he was gay. So many awkward men. I've never encountered such weirdos in my life. The men seem to have this life on the internet and so many lacked social skills. Very horrible experience with Match.com. Many of the guys were liars for no reason even when I was clearly not interested. Also, they would write multiple times and view your profile as if they are stalkers.
In addition, I cancelled one full week before subscription ended (was only on there for 6 months) and guess what? They renewed my subscription and automatically withdrew from my bank account! When I called the same day to let them know what happened and to refund my money, they would not refund it stating I hadn't cancelled it. I was so furious I told them to delete my profile and that I would never again use their services for anything or advise anyone make or female to use their site. Two words: Never Again!

This is an absolute scam, and they need to be stopped. I see by reading other complaints that they are in the habit of doing this. I asked them for a refund, and they said they couldn't because they issued me a refund in the last 6 months. This happened to me both times that I tried this website. I cannot believe it is "accident", as it is not an isolated incident. I cancelled the automatic renewal days before my subscription ran out, and they put charges through on my account. I quoted the New York's General Obligations Law 5-903 to them and asked if their supervisor was aware of this law (I live in New York). This statute requires that a vendor in any "service, maintenance, or repair contract" with an auto renewal clause gives its customer written notice of an auto-renewal at least 15 days, but not more than 30 days, before the cancelation deadline; otherwise, the auto-renewal provision is deemed unenforceable. Just by luck, I went to the bank today to check some recent charges on my account and I found out that match.com had been charging me for the past year. I hit the roof. I called match.com and they said that they have an auto renew feature. I told them that I cancelled the service, so why did I need the auto renew? They told me that I agreed to it when I signed up. Needless to say and after much fussing and yelling, they only refunded two months’ worth of charges. I'm pissed. I asked if they were auto charging me for my "convenience", why didn't I get a monthly e-receipt like I do for my other electronic subscriptions? They couldn't answer this question. If this was a legitimate practice, they would send you an e-receipt every month, which they are not. After I adjusted my account, I double-checked a few days later as a precaution. I didn't see any charges when I would periodically check my bank account, so I had no suspicion. I will admit, I suffered a close call with online banking and have been afraid of accessing account information on my computer. I kept getting emails telling me to join, so again, I had no suspicions.
Then on Friday, I decided to look at my account on my phone application and luckily the charge was up on the queue and I saw it. I called them first thing the next day and they could only credit me one month. I asked to speak to the next person in charge and she forwarded me to corporate who only gave me 18 months back. I told them that it was unacceptable, that their operator even told me that they may not have any indicated, because I closed the account during the subscription period and not at renewal. I told them that I even completed their damn survey on why I no longer wanted to subscribe. Last year, I purged my email of all the junk I didn't think I needed and have no emails to show for.
It is clear the Match chooses to have predatory practices where you are opt into services and know there are people who won't check right away. This is ridiculous that they said they could not see any attempt at me canceling my account, but in the same conversation say that about my timing of cancellation and also that they have no way of monitoring utilization. This is bogus! How does a website that is looking at connecting people together not know how people use their site?
I received a form email regarding my complaint to corporate and it left me even angrier and sick to my stomach. This is unacceptable customer service and shows how they regard customers. The site told me I’d cancelled and would not be charged again. Around the 17th of September, I checked the site to make sure my profile had been shut down - it hadn’t! I read Ellie's comments below and felt compelled to also share my own story. I joined Match.com in UK and found that I was inundated with responses. I was plagued by a man from Welwyn, London who claimed to be a devote Catholic and his emails soon turned into sexual innuendos and also he made it clear that he wanted sex on our first date. He told me he wanted to marry me (this is after the 4th email), and that he wanted me to move in with him. But his messages then purely concentrated on wanting to have sex with me. It was clear, very clear he was after only one thing. This was all done on the match.com email site and there was no policing of these sexually explicit emails even after complaining to match.com.
He claimed he was 55 years old and was a property developer and a big man in the village. I was shocked and appalled by some of the things and the sexual content in the emails he had sent. I told him that I had come from an abusive relationship and told him to stop the shocking emails. However, when he saw how upset I was, he agreed that we would meet up and take it from there. Reluctantly, I agreed to meet him at a bar/hotel in Nottingham. However, when I turned up, it was clear that this man was in his 50s and was very old and not as his picture represented on his profile. After seeing him from a distance, I was disgusted and decided not to turn up.
I then sent him a message and told him that I thought he was too old for me. However, when I got back, he would not take rejection and tried again to meet me. He told me again he wanted sex with me. I decided to report it to Match.com and he is still on the website now. The match team did not do anything to remove this man from the site but I think he is sexually harassing and abusing women. He brags that he can get sex on the website 7 days per week if he wanted to. I decided to immediately remove myself from the site.
Ladies, beware. This man is only after sex, he claims to be the perfect gentleman and will say anything for sex. Despite complaining on numerous occasions to Match.com, no one did anything about it. In addition, there is nowhere on the Match.com site to report things anonymously and blocking a person from your profile does not work. This man was very keen to get my personal details so he did not have to respond on the site. However, after all the emails I received from him on the site, I soon quickly realized that this man was after one thing only and that is sex. Match.com is not policed for sexually explicit content in emails that senders send to each other on the site; consequently, the senders of the information should be reprimanded according to the company's guidelines. Match.com needs to police this carefully.
