Match.com guarantees you'll find someone in 6 months and will give you 6 months free if you don't. They let you know in big print what you have to do, and even have a setting to let you know if you are meeting the requirement for the month. Then in small print (I'm learning now), they have a requirement you have to let them know you qualify for the free 6 months 1 week in advance or they will charge you again. They don't have this info in the settings to know if you qualify. I used the match.com guarantee about 15 years ago and the free 6 months was automatic. They are able to auto bill, why can't their supposedly smart system match it against who qualifies - they know who does as they are letting you know you qualify in your settings. This is just bogus.

After about 5 weeks on Match, I met someone that I wanted to date exclusively, but did not want to cancel my membership because I pre-paid for 12 months of their service. They did not have a "on-hold" feature so I removed my pictures and then removed the profile description info from my Match account. Match requires a 200-character entry in the "My Details" section so I entered "I am now dating one person and not currently looking." They review everything you add to your profile to make sure you're not circumventing their pricey site by supplying your private email address. Somehow they concluded that I might be married or something and terminated my account, just 5 weeks into my 52-week subscription.
Summary: I have been mostly unhappy with their service even before they terminated my account. The only intelligent thing that Match.com has going for it is the choice of a short and intuitive name, "Match." They do a very poor job at offering you good matches and they have so little profile data available for their members, it's very hard to do any research on your own. They have a summary section where you describe yourself and/or what you seek, and they ask for some physical description data, and little more. Mostly, you just look over a few general pieces of information on the person, and if you like their picture (which is not always up-to-date) you email them hoping that they will reply and you take it from there. You have a lot of 'misses' and very few 'hits'.
I did a little looking around after I subscribed to Match (wrong order to do things, I know!). I found another dating site that had a free option so I created a free account. Even with the free account on Cupid, the site was a much better dating service because you can find out a lot about a person before you decide to contact them. This helps you become more efficient in your emails which do take time!
So now I am kicking myself for paying for Match when Cupid is MUCH better for free, and then to add further insult, Match cancels my 52-week membership on week number 5! I sent a complaint (more of a waste of my time) to their customer service and am still waiting a response, but really, losing my Match membership does much more damage to my pride than anything else. It will have very little impact on my dating, assuming my current girl does not work out.

I continue to get contacts from military men even though I called Match with some concerns that I have. Match did change some things on my profile which has helped some. I have changed my occupation which now has changed the amount of incoming contacts. I asked Match about when I log onto the site, I get automatic chats, are those generated people that are potential matches for me. Match reply was "yes they are." I informed Match about why am I speaking to people that all have the similar stories, backgrounds when asked basic questions as what type of work, how long have you been on the site, what are you looking to find. Match replied this was her first encounter of a member bringing this to attention.
The person I spoke with on Match was a little convincing that the site security was great but not perfect. Since my call with Match I have experienced less generated chats, different screen names with same picture and profile, phone calls from foreigners that I can't hardly understand or hardly hear, phone suddenly disconnects. I will be contacting Match about my new concerns and informing them I will be canceling my account. This will be interesting to find out what will happen next.

On Feb 11, 2014, I got on Match.com to cancel my account. It is hard to cancel given their interface. I was sure I had done so. I come to find out that they auto-renewed twice at $71.97 each time. The customer service representative did refund one auto-renew charge but not the second one. They sent me a PO Box number (seems antiquated) but I suspect if I spend time they won't do anything about it. If you are going to auto renew, make it clear to folks. It's not. Be straight and clear. They do this funny (you'll save this much). Then when someone wants to cancel let them do it easily. The company spends the money they make fielding complaints. I will never use Match.com again due to this.

After speaking with multiple people on the customer care line, I learned they do not offer refunds in any situation. I was under the impression I would be paying by the month, instead three months' amount was taken from my account. I would strongly recommend being cautious with the billing on this site. The people answering the phones at the customer "care" center could not speak clearly, and were extremely hard to understand.

Not only is it close to impossible to CANCEL your subscription, but the entire year I was on MATCH.COM, I got no more than five responses. Been off 6 months (finally), and each week I get notified that I've gotten mail or someone has "like" me or tried to contact me. WHAT A SCAM-- just to get you to re-sign up!

I have no idea what is going on with my account. I found a phone # but can't get a hold of anyone. My 6 months was coming up and I qualified for the next 6 months free, I think. I couldn't find information on when my account would be up and how to get the next 6 months for free. I was able to sign up for a STIR and they billed my account within minutes. When I tried to use Match and contact someone, a pop-up told me my subscription was cancelled. We'll see if they let me into the STIR.

I was a member of Match for a month when my account was hacked and I couldn't log in. When I contacted Match.com over the phone, I was told my account was closed for "suspicious activity" and I had to create a new account. When I asked for a refund, I was refused and I was still billed even though Match closed my account without even notifying me.

Having forgot my password I am trying to cancel my subscription. When you follow the match.com link to retrieve your password via your email the link does nothing. It would appear that this single full-time dad will be charged like untold numbers before him for a service that he doesn't want or can afford. Avoid this site at all costs. Plenty of Fish has many users and won't cost you money you don't have... most of the users are the same.

Account setting was set to non-renewal and they have renewed my account and charged me $59.97 3 days ago and refuse to refund the money. I have told them that they are welcome to prorate and charge me for the 3 days of the 3-month subscription, and they are refusing to do anything. Since a new subscription was started several months ago, they say that they can reset my account settings to suit their purpose which is to charge people without any notification regarding end of subscription, etc. When you don't have a subscription they also bombard you with emails and notifications to entice you to join and then play this type of game when you do join.
Most of the people on the site that you might be trying to contact also don't have subscriptions, so basically you are wasting money trying to contact somebody who cannot even see who was trying to contact them. Information is hidden so they get them to subscribe. Hate the site, hate their policy, hate the games they play and I cannot believe that this can be legal. Have actually had very good experience on other free web sites, with much better policies. Have started a dispute with the credit card company, we will see where it goes. Do not subscribe to Match, it is a waste of time and look elsewhere. They get a hold of your credit card information and do not let go.

The snakes at Match automatically set you up for auto renewal of your account. When I went through all of the cancellation selections they STILL charged me another month and told me I didn't turn off the auto renewal. Why would I want to renew when I was cancelling? Why wouldn't the selection of CANCEL automatically tell them to STOP CHARGING ME?

I do realize that they say in the agreement that they "offer" an automatic renewal...get this....so that your online experience will not be interrupted!!! ! Give me a break. It's so you won't notice that your original subscription is about to end and the new one is about to begin, only to drain your bank account of the membership fee all over again.
This morning, I noticed my bank account shy the amount of $119. It was Match.com that had taken my hard-earned money. The transaction was pending according to my bank. I went on Match.com to try and cancel my subscription. (They make THAT area difficult to find BTW.) I found the area finally and cancelled my subscription, but I am still in Match.com for another six months. (I didn't cancel in time.) IMMEDIATELY in my inbox was an email from Match.com saying they were sorry I was cancelling and would I like to re-subscribe!!!!! The answer was NO. Excuse me....but if they had sent, out of human decency, an email reminding me that my AUTOMATIC RENEWAL DATE was approaching, I would not be so pissed off.

A few years ago I tried Match. It was as bad as everybody has said in the prior postings, and my experiences are much the same as those that have already been aired. No point in restatement. However, certainly some good advice on subscribing to any service is to follow this protocol. I learned this from issues with other types of subscriptions before this.
Try using one of those debit cards to pay the subscription and not the one hooked into your bank account but, one you have to load with money. Put enough on to cover the subscription and they have nothing to charge against in the future. Most people have back up credit cards they do not use often. If the load use debit card doesn't work, use this type of card to set up the subscription. When the bill comes, call the card company and tell them you think there may be an issue and the number has been compromised (You are still responsible for the subscription and you need to pay the bill). They will send you a new card and number as well as block and flag the account for the old number. When the site tries to auto renew - nada, they can't auto charge because there is nothing valid to charge. If an outfit like Match auto bills and won't refund, your account has been technically compromised so, it is not necessarily untrue - your CC account has been compromised.
Complaining here is all well and good but, people need to take it the next level. At least get something done by voicing and writing your complaint to a group that can do something. Go to the US Consumer Protection Agency website and file a complaint. There is a sample complaint form you can use. Then, using this form, complain to your State's Attorney General. via email or snail mail. Match and the rest of the scam dating sites do not make enough profit to bribe every official in every State to ignore complaints. At least there is a chance some new safeguards can be put in place. If people had done this over the years, there would be millions of complaints filed and something done by now.
If more people followed this protocol, much of this could be stopped on any subscription site. I believe after all these years Match has PO'd millions of paid users. Had they have done this, they wouldn't have been charged in the first place and somebody would be watching sites like Match more closely. It takes an hour or less. Is your time really worth more than the hassle if you don't do these things than the cost and grief of trying to get resolution that isn't going to happen?

She also claimed to be sending a package with 115 grams of gold and provided a fake invoice showing all the particulars. I saved the invoice if anyone wants it. The people I encountered were alright, however after a while I figured out it was not for me. I went to cancel and discovered that I was automatically renewed for the same package "for my convince" and had my card charged for another $79 dollars for 3 months of a service I will not use. When I asked for a pro-rated refund or anything, I was now with rude customer service reps who repeatedly told me that the fine print says that they auto-renew and that they have no refunds. So be careful if you try this site. They are into "got ya" billing and will hide behind the small print while charging your credit card. I am not a fan of companies like this.

The very same day I did the transaction I called to ask a partial refund, to be switch to the 3 months instead of 6 and explained what happened. Well, they said, NO. This is so unprofessional and greedy! In the other hand the website features are immature, childish and even ineffective. All those "likes" and "winks" and people of course are not encouraged to talk. And once your registration is finished, you have to take the time to call them so your profile is not active. Then, they just "hide" your profile. But you can still see the user name, just not picture and no links to interact. I don't understand why you become a "property record" of Match.com. I just wanted to give it a try, see who was on there and how this site was different from all the other millions. It's just like the others, tons and tons of people searching through a sea of faces. I never looked through the available profiles, but was hoping that the site would send me matches based on my preferences. Well I got them and they never matched what I was looking for. What's the point of specifically filling out the profile with specifics if a random email with a bunch of guys who weren't what I wanted at all is sent instead??? When the month was up I was hoping that it would just disconnect me, but I found that the next day I was able to login. Then I checked my card that I used to pay, and it was charged!!!!!!!!! WTF.
What kind of company has an option for 1 month then continues to bill you? 1 month is 1 month. I did not receive an email stating that it would be automatically billed, or that my membership was ending and I needed to renew. Nothing. Just simply billed me for another month. Apparently that is how this company works. IT'S A SCAM. Why would I sign up for just 1 month if I wanted more?!! Then when you go to check that person's profile you get this message from Match: "The profile you're looking for is not available at this time. Instead take a look at these:" They give you several other profiles as substitutes. It took me a while to catch on that Match sends out messages using (probably a former member's profile) to 'entice' you to look at the profiles they mention. This is a deceitful practice and I liken it to Bait and Switch which is illegal. I have communicated the fact to Match that they are sending fake messages. So far they have lied through their teeth.

I immediately canceled the account and tried to speak with someone at Match customer service. So I guess they are just planning to keep the money that I paid for the rest of the subscription period? This company is clearly ripe with fraud and poor customer care. The accounts obviously have no security and can be taken over easily. There needs to be some consumer protection litigation against Match to protect all the members and especially the men that are being scammed.

One that didn't look fake asked me to talk to her on Messenger then proceeded to fish for personal information. I was also getting matches sent to me that didn't resemble anything I was looking for. I realized it was a mistake so I tried to cancel. No option to cancel. I called Match.com to get a refund (there was a phone option to ask for a refund) and I was told they had a no refund policy. What initiated this posting was the fact that my membership auto-renewed. My conversation with customer service was completely unsatisfactory and I will be contacting the CEO by mail. To no avail I am sure but I need to express my contempt for their practice. Apparently in terms and conditions it states that approving payment for membership also approves auto renewal. I wasn't aware of this and my subscription auto renewed for 3 months. I am willing to pay for the current month despite not using the service but they refuse to refund the fees for 2 months that I will not be using.
I have had 3 successful relationships since joining Match in 2010. Successful in that I dated someone at least for 3 months. I would say that is not a great average. I see the same faces on the site even tho I have been a member only for 3 months in 3 or 4 of the past 5 years. SO I am not the only one who is not successful.
I advise that you try another dating site or do not join for more than 3 months at a time otherwise the matches they send become repetitive. Also beware the auto sign up and mark your calendar for when to cancel. There is no opting out of the auto renewal. In order to join at all, you have to agree to that. This is transparent way to "steal" from you in my opinion. They know people won't be aware of this and so they will at least double their money. I guess if you sign up for a year it will auto renew for a year and they won't refund that either. A disgusting policy I think. If I sign up for online dating again it will certainly not be with a disreputable company like Match. I hope they aren't all like this. By the way, I am 62. Thanks for reading.

I wasn't that impressed with the site. Their idea of a "match" has no depth or real connection with what you put in your profile. On June 22 I went through their cancellation process. It said I would have access until the end of the period and then it would be unavailable. I started getting some email notices and just checked things out as they came in. I wasn't exactly sure when my contract ended and poked around some until I thought my account should have been down and wasn't. I went in to the cancellation screen and found out they had renewed my account on June 29th. I then started looking for a way to contact customer service. There were NO links anywhere in their system when I was logged in. I ended up Googling and got a link.
When I went there, I got an error message saying that page was incompatible with my browser... REALLY??? You're incompatible with Internet Explorer, the single most widely used browser in the planet??? I downloaded and went back using Chrome and filled out their contact form. They tossed up a message saying something about my mail being related to renewals and that if I bought a 6 month plan I would get a free renewal if I didn't find someone in that 6 months. I had to read the fine print to tell them their page didn't address my issue and to send my complaint. Then they sent me an automated response telling me to go and cancel using the process I used several weeks ago and that they would not do anything unless I took yet another step by replying to their automated ignore email.
I also have a friend who had a Match account. When she became successful at cancelling, they blocked her from logging in, but I could still see her account as ACTIVE and it said she had been ACTIVE in the last 24 hours even though she had not had an account for over a week! She knew they were leaving her account visible because she suddenly started getting a ton of winks that looked suspiciously fake (as in about 20 per day when she hadn't seen anything in weeks prior). Clearly these were lures to get her to re-subscribe to find out who the winks were from. She had to send a threatening letter about privacy violation before they took her account down. Just know that if you join it’s like Hotel California. You can come but you can never leave. I've asked them to delete my account and refund the money I deauthorized them to take. If they don't, I'll be back to post more.

After the 3 days, the profiles were suddenly hidden and I was contacted only by people requesting my personal email, in their initial email, to continue communicating. Once you say no, they disappear and their profiles are hidden.
Match.com does nothing to protect their subscribers. They are not protecting the interest of their customers and refuse to refund money. They run a 6-month guaranty which requires you to send emails. Then they tell you no refund because emails were sent. Their customer service is outsourced so their reps are basically reading the same script that is circulating globally. Ineffective to help anyone. I truly feel bad for the very lonely people that Match.com is setting up to be ripped off and harmed by scammers. I'm sure there are plenty. Have been a member of Match off and on for a couple years. Several months ago some bizarre things started happening. Someone hacked my then-closed account, set up a false profile and charged it to my credit card on file. When Match was notified, the account was closed and I did not lose money. HOWEVER, upon rejoining a month or so later, I now get daily (sometimes even more than daily) winks, favorites -- and even emails -- from thinly veiled fake members. Usually these are widows, 1 photo only, profile full of flowery language which sounds like it came from a female writer, seeking women usually older than the "member".... and in even more bizarre situations, these fake members suddenly turn into women. The thing they forget to do is change more than their photo (so this new female may be 6'2", works in construction; or if going from female to male -- the new "he" is into aerobics and popular female books.
These are not just fake non-paying accounts... I have received emails with pressuring messages claiming their membership is soon to end and to please email them at some outside yahoo or other email address. I have complained many, many, many times to Match in recent months. Some these accounts are quickly closed. But more disturbing is the supposedly paid or premium accounts (was someone hacked just like me a few months ago) seem to be allowed to stay up. Even if paid, these are truly and obviously fake accounts -- with the "tells" as seen in other accounts (widower, one photo, inconsistent info, states hair is blond, yet photo shows dark brown), stated height 5'5" yet photos reveal someone taller (standing in doorway, etc)..... My membership runs out in a few weeks -- I will use other resources in the future (if I need help in the future; I may not).. Never will I return to Match again. This is my experience with Match. com. I entered the site and followed the various links to create an account. All appeared to go well, I then paid for 3 months of service. I was then allowed to start searching. All looked good. The next day I logged in and was immediately notified my account was blocked. The reason was that I checked the married response which is a direct violation of their terms. Now I'm stuck, I cannot rectify my profile and I can't use the site. So I asked for a refund. Their response was sorry but we do not refund any monies when there is a violation of our terms. This is a Catch 22.
If I made a fatal response in my profile, so why did they let me proceed. They should have immediately said, hey you cannot proceed because this profile response violates our terms. Even if they wouldn't let me rectify my profile, I would have the opportunity to simply backs away, no fault, no fowl. Now my mistake was that I put down I was married. In reality I did not get a divorce, my marriage was annulled. The choice of divorced was not true, and they didn't offer annulment as a choice. My mistake was that I should have stopped and tried to figure out the right response. But they didn't say a word and I didn't know that a trap was going to snare me.
What they did was play a dirty but simple game that resulted in me having my money taken. They state satisfaction guaranteed but they didn't feel they had to live up to it. In a court of law, I feel that I would prevail. But to take on Match.com in a legal battle would very costly and protracted for me. This is clearly a bad business practice, it's a form of corporate entrapment. Simply put they are scoundrels. Beware of Match.com. The nerve of them preying on the small man for small money.

I joined thinking that the quality of the members would be better. Match.com members must pay to communicate, which in my mind, would exclude most without an income. On a Friday, I paid for the 3 month plan and charged $59.98 only to get my account that same day disabled. Their programming thought I was a spam bot because I was doing the old "cut & paste" messaging to several other members. This was done to save me time simply saying to each member I was interested in "Hello. Would you like to chat?" A whole day wasted. Contacted them about the matter, which by the way is not easy when their business hours are M-F only. No response.
Then Saturday my account was back up and behold I've got 80+ views for my profile, 20+ likes and 6 winks, ALL from people who live over 500 miles away! Most of them are scammers for sure. There is no such thing as a 21 year old woman with one super sexy photo looking for men 30-60 with a simple little paragraph and a smile. I'm calling them Monday to demand a refund for providing a service that is a lie. Went to a free service called POF and within one day, I got all types of women chatting with me. Match.com will override your elected choice to discontinue auto renewal (and credit card charges). You will need to check them after you take an action to ensure they did what you wanted. They will make it nearly impossible to hide your profile, preferring to make it seem like they maintain a nice healthy number of subscribers. Their technical support function, like many, is difficult to access or communicate with.
Match is rampant with people posing and portraying themselves dishonestly. While this isn't a direct action by Match, their sales tactics makes the site a fertile ground for misrepresentation and fraud. I am nearly at the end of my patience with being on Match. Be very, very cautious about joining Match and letting them have access to your credit card. They will abuse it, or have done so with mine by countermanding my direction to stop auto renewal.

I have tried several dating sites and all of them, in my opinion, have a huge downside. Some of it inherent to the process however, some are inundated with scammers and fake profiles and Match.com is as bad as I have seen. It is surely because their policy of dealing with it, as I have learned, seems to have been born in Africa. As a middle aged man, I am prey for endless "winks" and profiles of 30ish women (or presumably women) claiming to like my photos, who usually state in their profiles that they live in a city somewhere in the US I never heard of (I live in and am a native of Los Angeles), who are usually in their early 30s, who rarely have more than one photo or an extra one or two that are not so clearly the same person and invariably if I communicate with them, I learn that they have some story about why they had to go to Ghana or Nigeria due to a family death, illness or for business.
There are so many others who play ghastly games, gold diggers, on and on, which surely the site's management cannot control. However, the result of informing Match about any of this and/or confronting any of these impostors is why I am joining this enormous complaint club. It makes me wonder if they are all a mafia or simply in some sort of mutually rewarding symbiotic relationship, which, in fact, for them makes perfect financial sense. You see, if a bunch of scammers from Africa send winks from fake profiles depicting very beautiful women and handsome younger men, this is going to work as great promotion to sucker men to join who paying to chase after illusions. So here's what happened that leads me to this conclusion:
It started when I got a warning for bad behavior and that if I communicate again with whoever must have filed a complaint about ME, I would be permanently deleted and with no refund. I wrote back that I was dealing with so many phonies that I was not sure who that person was, so how could I know who not to write back to? I said that if they do not tell me who must have reported me that I was effectively being paralyzed from writing to anyone.
They answered that I would have to go to legal authorities and instigate an investigation(!) as they obviously would not tell me who reported me. I can only surmise I had said something that enlightened someone that I was on to their game or scam or whatever. I mean, I even get signs of winks from what surely are profiles made in L.A. that look as real as they could be from women who do not respond when I answer them but later on they wink at me again and don't answer me the second time either.
Bottom line, one has to wade through piles of riffraff to simply encounter a real woman and God knows what SHE is contending with! Alas, it gets much worse....... So I had no choice but to risk continuing to communicate and in no time my profile was deleted. This happened just when I was getting to know one woman who I was certain I was soon to meet but when my profile was deleted I had no personal contact info from her yet. Hence, I had only two options: try to rejoin, meaning paying TWICE or to forget her. For days, this bothered me a lot. I also was too curious to know if they would accept me again as long as I paid them once again. So finally I broke down, paid again and guess what? My new profile was accepted!
I did meet the woman, though it took a lot to get over her doubts when I had to somehow explain why I had to make a new profile. However, the first day I rejoined I was bombarded by about 40 winks and likings of my photo from fake profiles and scammers who surely were from Africa. I can now smell such profiles from a mile away. There are many obvious clues; however, I have noticed lately that likely they steal text off of profiles trying to make theirs look as real as possible. Often there are no profiles at all when I check on who liked my photo. And there's more.....
THEN, about three days later, I discovered that a hacker had broken into my mailbox and was using it to send messages not only to the few women I had written to and/or had written to me since rejoining but also to profiles of women I had never even looked at! IN MY SENT FOLDER, there were messages sent from the hacker to the women I had written to or vice versa giving them a link to a site in Poland where he said he had more photos (I found the site but not his photos) and to the ones I did not know at all he said he had a free three-day trial membership and he gave an email address to write to.
So I wrote an email to that address pretending to be a woman. He said he lived in Sacramento, California. I live in Los Angeles. He didn't even know who I was but he just went along as if I were one of the many women he must have written to. He asked for photos so I sent him some fake ones I had prepared for my sleuthing. I asked for a photo in return and he sent me one of what looked like a pretty normal American guy. I pressed him to tell me something about Sacramento but he was evasive. I had to pull teeth but finally he told me what I had anticipated: he was (in) Nigeria... and as they all say, he was just visiting there for a time for some invented reason. Obviously, he never had been to Sacramento in his lifetime.
At this point, I did not bother to tell Match anything more. I find it now way too risky to even communicate them. All I read here is true: they claim that they are concerned but they could care less about their customers and once you pay them, they not only will never refund you if you are disappointed but they can delete you and you have no recourse other than the choices I have outlined here. I will say that there are serious people searching. They advertise like crazy so it's surely going to attract real people but the site is a labyrinth filled with hornet's nests which members who are serious have to wade through in the process of searching for real connections.

Nothing happened! That's the problem. Look at how many dating sites there are... Why? Because they can easily take advantage of honest people and continue to feed them BS... with PHDs and Chemistry and all this other crap... Think about it. How hard is it to date somebody? It always depends on the other person... I don't care how Great your profile is. They are going to look at you and instantly decide if they will respond. It's that simple. It's human nature... the law of attraction. You can be the biggest ** out there and if you are drop-dead handsome... the women forget about all that other stuff... Simple as that! They would probably go out with a Serial Killer if he was hot enough!
OK... I've contacted at least 500 women or more on several sites... and like the other person said... the ones he actually met were crazy! And I can attest to that! They all say the same thing, "I want a nice guy, honest, Blah, Blah, Blah" and when 1 contacts them, they don't respond... The only way I get a response is if I confront them about at least saying you're not interested.... And then they respond real quick! I guarantee if you use these sites, you will either never find anyone and waste lots of time and money... or you will wind up settling for someone so that you are not alone and don't have to search anymore... Ask anyone about online dating and they will tell you, "What a joke!" I've all ready told you everything you all ready know... and there are no real consequences, because it's a live and learn scenario... People try, wind up wasting time and money and are totally frustrated!

I joined Match 3 months ago, one of the options they had was 3 months which seemed like a good enough trial period. To me, 3 months means 3 months and not a an ongoing monthly subscription or continuous subscription thereafter. However, embedded in their terms and agreements (which most people do not read thoroughly) it states that regardless of subscription type you purchase, it will be automatically renewed for the same amount of time once the subscription term ends. This is not explained in their advertisement or as you are going through the subscription process as it should.
But what is more slimy and underhanded is there is no warning that the renewal date is approaching giving you time and opportunity to cancel the subscription. I had cancelled it only two days after the subscription renewal date because I couldn't remember exactly when I had joined and they would not give me a refund. I wanted to cancel for the rest of the summer seeing as I was going away and then possibly rejoin afterwards, but now that I see that not only do they intentionally bury this important fact in their terms and conditions, they don't warn you and won't refund you by a couple of days. I will never use Match again and I hope others take this into account before joining. I wonder how many other people have been mislead by this and if this is ethical.

Been a member for 4 months now. First month I had 0 reply messages or anything at all. Come to find out every pic I uploaded was rejected. Pics of me playing with my dog at the gun range, in front of the Lincoln memorial, nothing perverse or crass at all. After threatening them with a phone call from my attorney they allowed one of my photos to be used for a profile pic. Still one month later nothing at all. I have sent dozens of emails and winks and nothing. So I try upping my income to over $100,000 a year and holy ** the emails wont stop. I was about to join Match.com, even though I thought it felt really "scammy" where you can't even see who is contacting you to see if there's even a remote chance of wanting to meet. I read these reviews which are so utterly terrible, and realized my gut was telling the truth. So, I just decided to add wording to my profile that might allow them to delete my account, (said I was going to go to POF) so they stop sending me emails, etc. Thanks for the heads up on such a crappy company. I'll just go elsewhere...

I tried to join the international online dating site match.com. I took a long times accurately filling out the questionnaire. I did nothing strange. I'm a straight older lady with no hidden agenda. They blocked my account immediately. When I asked why, they told me it was for 'the good of their members'. This is hurtful and unfair. They said they wouldn't tell me why. I asked if there's possibly was a hack on my email ? I know people on those sites really can be inappropriate and they are allowed to stay! So I was extra stunned that a normal person like myself wasn't even allowed to join!! I tried again using my other email - same thing happened. So it must be my IP address. I'm kinda of nervous. I clicked on an email that Match.com sent telling me someone had viewed my profile. Many times in past I have used this method to log on to my NON-Subscription account (can't communicate with anyone). The log on screen asked for my password and then took me to their website as it did many times previously. I soon I realized I had access that I did not normally have.
The site I had "logged" onto was actually a subscription site that had retained my Ccard info from last year, and by logging in had processed a subscription for 3 months at full price. An immediate call to their customer service number resulted in them stating under no circumstances would they refund my money. Even with only 10 minutes of time between subscribing and calling for cancellation. What can I do?

I signed up for a "free" profile with Match.com a few weeks ago. I've been getting email messages, winks, etc., but couldn't see anything without paying. Some of the people sounded interesting. I got messages to subscribe for 25% off, then 50% off. Today, I had finally decided I'd subscribe, but the 50%-off offer was gone. I tried to email, but got a weird message. I found an 800 number and tried to call, but "all circuits were busy". I had looked for reviews before, but apparently I didn't find these. After I read the reviews here, I went back and removed my profile and cancelled everything. For those who were scammed, you should file a dispute with your credit card company - the sooner, the better. Barring that, how about the attorney general's office in Texas, since HQ is in Dallas? Then again, it's Texas... On the other hand, if the guy gets enough complaints, he might have to do something.

After quitting Match in Feb 2014, Match kept sending me emails from interested men. The emails even claimed that I could look for free. I have now found that they have reinstated my membership without my permission, charged my card without my permission, even after I have repeatedly tried to erase everything from their system under my account and close my membership on a number of occasions. I called them and after speaking with the supervisor (who refused to put me in touch with anyone else), I was informed that I would not receive a refund and it was my fault for responding or opening the emails. I informed him that I had specifically requested not to receive any emails but they kept coming. It is amazing. Ironically, when I first attempted to call Match and chose the selection for refunds, the line kept going dead. I had to actually chose the option of opening a new membership to speak with anyone.
My advice, unless you want to be a lifelong member - don't sign up. Also - I also had an experience with a member who I thought was trying to scam women. When I brought it to Match's attention - they did nothing. Meanwhile, this man not only was put in prison here for his crimes, he had already been in prison prior to that at another location. Match does not care.

I'm a 60-something male, widower, and was suspicious because there was always only one photo of a beautiful young woman and either a very broad-based profile or a "hidden profile." Looked like they were seeking to prey on lonely old men. Could not find a way to block all of these en masse, only one at a time. Way too much hassle. The women my age who looked nice and legit were unrealistic in their expectations, e.g. demanding a man in 60s whose body type was "athletic and toned." One shut me down because I didn't have a personal trainer. The rest my age looked older than I. Ugh! Generally speaking, the experience was both exasperating and humiliating. Yes, I have to pay the full bill for six months even though I canceled after eight days. But it's worth it to be free of the daily hassles and embarrassment. Lesson learned, at a cost of nearly $100.

He asked me to send him 500 when I told him I didn't have the money, he started to put me under pressure to take out a load, always declaring his love for me, and that he would give it me back. I still refused and I did not hear from him for two weeks. I then got an email saying he had tried to ring me so I rang him back. This time he wanted me to buy him two football shirts to give to his men. I told him I would have a look on the website and see how much they were, not intending to send them, He rang me and said he had found what he was looking for and it would cost 150, I told him I would not afford that. I told him I could only afford 50. He said he would have a look and see what he could find.
The next thing, I get an email asking for some clothes with the link to the the website he had seen them on. I had a look and emailed him for his contact details as I would get them sent direct. He told me that I had to buy them first and then he would send me the details of where to send them. I emailed him and told him I thought he was trying to scam me and not to contact me again. He replied with a short nasty email. I have kept the emails and the photos he sent me and his website name. I am an intelligent woman and suspected that this was another scam from the start. I am sorry that I did not do more research on Match.com before joining three days ago. I've been separated from my wife for several years, yet we've remained married for insurance reasons because of her terminal illnesses. I also have to make end-of-life decisions for her. I read their "Terms of Service" agreement prior to subscribing to their service.
I joined on May 10, 2014 and was completely honest in completing the questionnaire and the section about marital status. I even checked the box that I was SEPARATED. After paying the fee, I had two or three persons interested in me with two persons winking. One person inquired about my marital status, so explained to them the situation. I never heard anything back from the person. On May 12, 2014, I logged into my account on Match.com only to discover they had terminated my account stating, "Match.com is for singles looking for a one-on-one meaningful relationship." They said I lied about my marital status and married persons are not allowed on Match.com. Evidently, the person who asked about my marital status told Match.com that I was married, but did not tell them the whole story. Furthermore, Match.com did not ask me for an explanation, but just terminated the account.
I immediately sent Match.com an email stating that I've been separated from my wife and that we remained married because of insurance and end-of-life reasons. They have not responded to my emails. I reread their "Terms of Service" a second time and did not see any stipulations on persons who are separated and still married cannot subscribe to their service. There is nothing pertaining to any marital status - single, never married, separated, divorced, widowed, etc in their "Terms of Service" site. Their site map does not provide phone numbers, but rather a section to send emails blindly to their office.
In covering my ass with Match.com, I'm contacting my credit card company to stop all current and future payments, as well as send the company a certified return receipt letter canceling my subscription, my membership, and severing all ties with them. In my opinion and from my experience Match.com is a rip off.

New users are tagged so pls , pls be very careful especially if you are on a) rebound b) weak c) vulnerable d) dump. Money... as soon as mentioned, run the other way, not only direct amount but also opening accounts, credit line. Ask for phone numbers and call, do not let them use messenger services. Time... Ask, ask, ask questions... Take all the time you can to get to know the person. This is to your advantage because the other person does not have this luxury... They would like to get as many victims as they can in a so short a time. Social media... Again, use to your advantage... Be wary of newly created timeline (red flag) and friends (for they can be also victims). Google the name... If also possible, police check.
Hackers are one thousand to a true person (at least to me feels like it). Read between the lines, do not get swayed by words, sentimental music because, remember: this is their only weapon.. Cut and paste as there are other women out there that they use the same words. Meeting people... daytime in a public place after you have spoken to them in person. After two responses I realized what it was and told them to "beat it." Strangely enough... I would get "winks" or hello messages from 3 to 5 women per week (at first) but they would never reply when I wrote them back. I thought to myself I wonder if a Match.com staff person is hiding behind some expired account to keep me paying and online. But, I thought this is pretty far fetched-but kept it in my mind. Then lo and behold when I notified their main office I was terminating my profile Voila! There was one of those women I had sent a message to several weeks ago..."finally writing me back!"
Let me say this, especially for all you guys out there. Don't feel bad if you send out messages and never get any responses. You are not getting rejected because most the profiles are fakes, run by staff members. If they are real people then they are the "butt sniffing types" who just want affirmation that they are attractive and as soon as you try to call for a date they will "go into hiding!" Watch their commercials and it always has a woman interviewed. Funny how no guys are ever interviewed for this site. These are ** and deranged feminist who just like to piss men off! The silver lining is I had ONE date after 3 months and she was deranged and sex crazed! From what I hear that is pretty common for this site.
It has been my experience that dating sites-even the ones run by reputable people still suck... because of the dynamic of online dating. Think about it... the reason people get on their is to (a) have an affair (b) are too self absorbed and know no one will tolerate them in real life or (c) are a nut loser who gets off on playing games with people. Save your money and just meet people in everyday life... that way at least you know what you are dealing with!

I joined Match a few days ago, and found it to be quite bizarre. You can read elsewhere about their questionable business practices, their refusals to refund monies, their glitches, and their heavy handed policies. I will give you the facts, as I know them to be:
If you join and do not subscribe, you can fill out a profile, and you can search for "matches", but you CANNOT interact with anyone in ANY form whatsoever. No email, no winks, no IM, nothing. Without a subscription, you CANNOT see who has viewed you, you CANNOT see who winks at you or makes you a favorite. When you write a profile, someone reads, edits and then approves it before it is posted. I had mentioned, in my profile, that I am not a subscriber and have no power to answer emails etc, but when my profile was approved, anything I mentioned to this effect is deleted.
I usually wait about a half hour, and then get an email saying: "Congrats! your profile has been approved etc etc". So some poor saps are sitting in a room somewhere, reading profile entries, and deleting anything that might put Match in a disparaging light. If you join Match, you must have your photo up at all times or they can remove your subscription, relegating you to the group of hapless singles who coast with just a membership.
If you join Match, you must allow them to automatically renew your subscription each month. Look around online, you will see stories of people who quit Match, only to find they are still being charged. I have seen stories (more than once) of people having to cancel their credit cards, just to get Match to stop charging them. I know 2 people who quit Match, and months later, their profiles are still up. Match reserves the right to use your info any way they wish, see the fine print. They can use your words and photos. What does all this mean? Well, if you cannot get any services without joining, and if you cannot write what you like, and if you cannot get them to stop charging you...sounds like Fascism to me.
Fascism is a system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism... How do they stay in business? Most every other online dating site allows users to write what they like (short of threats or obscenities), to enjoy a certain amount of communication for free, to see who has viewed them etc. I know of no other that insists paid subscribers have a photo. What is up with that?
I am quitting today. But not before I let my little spying editors know what I think of Match. Good luck singles, go to OKCupid (owned by Match, but not infiltrated by the Fascists...yet. ) We need a better free online dating site - get to it computer people!!

The unfortunate thing is... I'd really, really like to give Match.com high marks. After staying single for a while and purchasing a three month membership as an attempt to expand my social circle, I did just that. Met the woman that I'll be spending the rest of my life with, within the first six weeks. With that said, I was more than happy to eat up the initial cost of the remaining membership and not look to have it pro-rated. I had cancelled out every aspect of the membership, and all was well.
My initial (authorized) charge came through in late October of 2013. However, come late January 2014, there was another charge. And yet ANOTHER charge today, late April 2014. My frustration level is mounting at this point, as I e-mailed the company in late February about the matter to no response. A few days ago, I had contacted my bank about rectifying the charge, but because of the time frame, they said I would need to contact Match.com directly... which I did, today, as it was the next business day.
After having scoured the internet about similar billing complaints, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they now had an automated system to request a billing refund; it processed through that my April charge would be refunded. Pleased, I remained on the line to speak with a representative in regards to the January charge. The representative was pleasant and helpful, but informed me that she would not be able to refund the prior charge. I thanked her, and asked if there was someone I could speak to that would. She said that she could put me in contact with her supervisor, and I was put on hold again.
Finally, I spoke with her supervisor, "Jose". I explained that I was satisfied with my time on Match.com and the great results it yielded; that I had cancelled out of the membership well before the end of the initial run, and that I simply would like to be refunded for the January charge as well, as no services were rendered or used to me. Jose abruptly asked me for a reference number, which I explained I would not still have, given that I had cancelled out late August, early September. He stated that as a "courtesy", my April charge had been refunded back, but that only the most recent billing cycle would be. I told him that I was aware the April charge was refunded back; I had just put it through myself on the automated system prior to. Not even 48 hours into the new billing cycle, and you're telling me that the previous would not be able to be refunded? Had I called 48 hours prior, I would not be out the $59.99? That, simply put, is asinine. I told "Jose" that it was a shame, because I would have really wanted to be able to recommend their product to other people, and that instead I would just have to be filing with the BBB. He was extremely short, rude, and unquestionably unhelpful throughout the call.
Be warned, while you may meet your mate, you can also be expect to be continually charged. It's not right, and it leaves things on a sour note with a company that I would so greatly recommend otherwise.

So I politely sent another email back to them asking to at least know what I did to have my account terminated, and they replied saying that for privacy reasons they cannot disclose that information and once again told me that they feel it is what they feel is best for their community. They also told me that if I wanted to, I could go through legal ways to retrieve the information I wanted. I am completely baffled and upset over this and find it to be absolutely ridiculous! I gave them no reason AT ALL to feel that I was a threat to their community and now I can't even find out WHY my account was terminated unless I go through legal ways. This is absolutely ridiculous. I will NEVER recommend this site to anybody and if you are here reading this and the other posts, please stay FAR away from this website!!

I signed onto Match about a month ago. First of all let me say that I met one or two nice people but the majority of them were asking me for personal information immediately. That raised a red flag but I'm a safe person so not too worried. Then I received an email from Match stating that I had changed my account information. And the email provided me with the changes I supposedly had made including an email address and the info of Man was seeking a Woman etc. I'm a woman so obviously I wouldn't change anything to a man seeking a woman. I received this email on vacation so didn't address it until a week later when I returned home. I tried to sign onto Match but was unable.
So, I called Match and they said that yes, someone had activated my account and therefore it had been deactivated. I never received an email stating someone else accessed it or a phone call or anything. Then when I said I wanted my account deactivated because their security was that easy to breach and I also wanted a refund they stated (with attitude) they could reactivate my account but could not offer me a refund. Their reason? They didn't know how the person was able to access my account and I could have given out the information. HUH? Then why would I call to complain it was changed???? Do not recommend this site at all!!!

This site is all about money. Making money and stealing from you. First there are many people who I have met on this site that just want to steal your money. They try to get you to go to another site like Yahoo and then proceed to tell you how desperate they are and they need money. I have reported this over several times and the profiles are not removed. Second, they have a NO MONEY BACK POLICY FOR ANY REASON. I was not aware you are required to have auto draft. They do not tell you or remind you about this. They just take your money. And even if you do not use the site, they still say too bad. This is not right. Very bad customer service. I would never ever recommend this site.

Lesson learned, I thought, until I found there were more lessons to be learned. After the initial 3 months, my subscription was automatically renewed, my credit card charged. I contested it within a couple of days, my account was blocked and the money was never returned. And when I spoke to an agent (chat), it was explained to me that it was all there, in the small print in the terms I agreed to... Bunch of crooks. Bet you they will fold in a few years and re-emerge under a different name. The whole dating thing bogus, biggest scam and unethically preying on the lonely, single people.

Some are more obvious than others. I believe these fake profiles at least most of them are created by Match.com, either by a computer program or by paying someone to pretend to be a real person. This whole experience has been negative. They are stealing their member's money and no one can stop them from doing so. This people need to be sued by everyone.

Strange things started happening the weekend of February 8th and 9th, I mean, pull out my hair, scared me to death crazy. Let me tell you, I DO NOT SCARE EASY! This is bad. It has mellowed out, but it is still happening. As far as the scams go, I'm still getting all the info together. I have quite a bit. I have been watching. First I have to turn it over to the proper authorities, then I will bring the story right back here. The man that it is about, his pic is being used, I can tell you that. It's a common excuse by many of us these days, but I'm an extremely busy professional who just found out through a year-end audit that I have been paying for Match.com to the tune of $120 every six months for the past year and half! I originally thought I would give Match.com a try with a discounted trial six month offer. However, you need to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL and pay close attention to the contract terms and conditions. Once Match.com has your credit card number, they will charge you continuously until you notify them of your intention to cancel -- be warned of charge websites that require a proactive 'opt-out' versus an 'opt-in' election on the part of the consumer. Under Federal and state Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts or Practices statutes, contracts such as the type used by Match.com are a serious consumer threat and need to be stopped!!!
I commend this to the attention of the Federal Trade Commission and state Attorney General for review and further consideration. In my case, I thought I only paid for six months and furthermore, it didn't even take six months to determine it wasn't worth it. IN FACT, MATCH.COM SENT ME MY OWN PROFILE FOR CONSIDERATION!!! What a piece of junk! Thankfully in the process of auditing my credit card statements during tax preparation, I discovered this scam is milking me additional funds. The bottom line, I spent over $300 in a year and half on Match.com and got nothing -- NOTHING -- for it!!! WARNING -- STAY AWAY FROM MATCH.COM. THEY WILL ROB YOU!!! Attorneys interested in starting a class action -- Let's do it!!! Match.com needs to be put out of business!!!

The next day I got an email saying my account had been terminated. I asked for what reason and they claim I have to get a subpoena before they have to tell me, and to make it worse they say they don't owe me a refund for the unused months. I just felt I needed to let people know what a scam this site was. Granted I did actually meet two men in the six months I paid for their services. One wasn't really my type. One had an STD which I didn't know about for the first two dates. This caused a lot of stress in my life. But my complaint is I had at least four men try to scam me, although it was quite obvious after the first scammer attempt. It is quite a waste of my time and an insult to my intelligence.
My biggest complaint is I dropped my subscription in May 2013, little did I know I should have deleted my account because they did not take my profile down. For the past 11 months they show me all the matches and the "letters" I have (if only I rejoin them). This is a waste of time to me and the men writing me. I waited for over a week for my account to be reimbursed and when it wasn't, I called them on their customer support line. I called again several days later on the same line.
Both times my complaint was taken and sent to "corporate" to be handled. Both times, I received emails that seemed to explain the termination which was never an issue with me. So I called again on April 9 and was very explicit as to the fact that all I wanted was to know when they intended to reimburse my money. I received a reply on April 10 and they finally addressed my complaint by telling me that they are not going to reimburse my money. First I would like to start by saying, I've been a member on Match.com since the end of November, on a six month plan. I came here with good intent, and I'm a very honest man. I feel that a serious complaint needs to be addressed because there's been a constant issue that keeps on recurring.
Since I've been here, I've had well over a dozen (that would be twelve plus) woman with phony profiles looking to play games with online love scams. Now, I realize that this is nothing new, and it's something that can potentially happen. But there's a pattern that keeps on happening, and personally... I'm really sick and tired of it, and VERY angry. I paid over 130 dollars of my hard earned money to maybe have an opportunity to meet a good woman and develop a healthy, meaningful relationship... rather than go to nightclubs and mingle with drunken woman I don't know or trust. (Maybe I'm just better off to take my chances there.)
Now I know it's illegal to read messages and emails sent back and forth, as it's an invasion of privacy (which for all I know, you may already do so). But... it is legal to check an IP address. Read that last part again. Why doesn't Match.com do this when people want to join your site? Do you have any idea how many Russian and African woman (or for all I know... men) have phony profiles all over your site? It seems to me that you probably do, and you don't really care as long as you're making your money. But you are an American dating site... yes?
You must spend a good amount of money on advertising, because you'll always run your commercials on network television with your "more people meet on Match.com than on any other site" campaign. Oh really? How is that? Maybe some poor soul gives their money to a stranger who suddenly disappears on them... or maybe they just up and leave their country to go meet someone they don't even know yet? Seriously? You're the number one dating site huh? Maybe I should contact The Better Business Bureau, and see what they have to say.
I'm not stupid... nor am I some desperate, pathetic, low self-esteem loser that is gullible enough to become a victim of some internet love scam. But... you at match.com must already be very aware of this issue, and should take on the responsibility to enforce appropriate measures on preventing this overwhelming disease on your site. I never would have expected such an unbelievable amount of phony scammers all gathered together in one place. It's a hangout for pathetic foreign and illegal losers... and it's disgusting! Your site should really be called Scammers.com. And shame on you, because you're even worse than they are!
Question... do I get the six month match guarantee? Because I definitely qualify for it. (I wonder why something inside my gut tells me I don't.) Fact... I've had well over 330 views, but not one date, nor have I corresponded to one real woman. And if that's not even enough, many profiles on your lovely site aren't even active anymore! Yeah... like you don't know about this, and take it upon yourselves to remove them.
Wow! This just came in my email from Match.com "new recommendations for you" as I'm writing this letter (I can't make stuff like this up)... **, 114 years old, New York... LMFAO!! Now, unless I'm mistaken, my profile says I'm interested in a woman between 35 to 47 years old. Maybe it's just a typo... she might actually be 11 or 14. What do you guys think? Just another example of the never ending b.s. your site delivers. It really never ends. It's like the gift that keeps on giving. Also, the first month I joined, my profile was hacked. Something that has never happened to me anywhere in all the years of using the internet. I contacted you about it, and I have to say that you dealt with the issue. Well thanks for at least that much, even though it's something that should have never happened, and I was not very happy about.
I've also received many emails of beautiful woman that made me a "favorite, like, or wink" but when I checked the "who viewed you" page... they're not even there. Interesting... I wonder why that would be? But shame on me because I should have read reviews about your site before I joined. I'll send you a link to show you the countless satisfied customers you have (sarcasm intended). I even found out you automatically charge credit cards to customers who want to, or deleted their account! And when they call or email you about it you say "there's nothing we can do about it" Really?
Well I'm sorry I joined, and I will make sure to tell everyone I know what it's all about. What would I expect you to do about it... and not just for me, but the countless other victims who paid to join your corrupt site? Probably nothing... right? You should be sued for the millions of dollars you've taken from honest people... when you could have done the right thing. I wonder what the ratio is of people who actually meet someone and develop a real relationship, versus the ones that get played the fool. I'm willing to bet it's probably pretty bad.
How do you people at Match.com actually live with yourselves? How would you like to experience this fraud yourself? Well I'll let you in on a little secret my friends... it hurts both financially and emotionally. Now I'm not one to judge, that's God’s and Jesus' job, but I believe that they're not going to be very forgiving of you. Then again, why should you care, as you may as well be the bride of Satan (you didn't happen to meet him on Match.com did you?). I hope you remember what I've said, and by all means, share my little love letter with all your fellow employees. So on that note I will say, have a nice day, and get a life! Oh yeah, before I forget... Would you happen to have a thousand dollars for me so I can go to Ghana to meet this beautiful woman I fell in love with from your terrific site? We're getting married this year. Thank you baby, I love you. :) What an unbelievable and unforgivable experience. Wow... really?

Like many others who have been "swindled" out of their money and posted on this site, I too was a victim of Match.com's unfair and deceptive business practices. I signed up for 6-months of service under the pretense of their "additional 6-month guarantee" if you still haven't found an ideal match in your first 6-months. You needed to keep your profile "active" to receive this second 6-months for free, which I did, but then was actually charged full price for this second 6-months. After painstakingly trying to get a real live person on the phone, I found out that the "customer service agents" who do answer phones have NO AUTHORITY to make any changes on accounts, and only send an internal email to someone at Match who will then send you an email but was always a, "Sorry, can't help you" response.
When I tried to dispute the charge through my credit card company, Match immediately terminated my account and said they could do this because of one sentence buried deep inside their excessively long Terms & Conditions says they have the right to do this, if a customer disputes a charge (which every consumer has the legal right to do). So basically to sign up for the service, you have to agree to (a buried) condition saying if they erroneously charge you, you can take NO ACTION against them, or they will immediately cancel your service, meaning they've now charged you for a subscription AND BLOCKED YOU from actually using this. And in my case, this is after they charged me for a subscription extension that was promised to me for free.
I have a graduate degree in business, and although not a lawyer, I can't imagine these business practices are legal, even if they bury these tiny T&C's in a lengthy on-line contract. I believe this justifies a class action lawsuit against Match.com and would more than willing to join such a class and do whatever I can to help move such a lawsuit forward. Any attorneys out there who want to pursue such a case, and in the process help to stamp out Match.com's deceptive business practices and set a major precedent in on-line consumer rights, please initiate a class action suit ASAP. **Consumers**: I would recommend you NOT sign up for this service. If enough consumers move over and utilize the free dating sites, maybe Match.com will finally pay attention and stop these deceptive business practices.

The male call taker was in morocco, put me on hold for a short time and came back to say yes they had received my cancellation but I had renewed it on the 4th April. I explained that no way had I renewed, he went on to say that I had upgraded my membership! (Why would I?)
I said that there must have been some error made as I had not and didn't want to renew or upgrade! He said "I am so sorry, I would feel the same but there is nothing I can do". I was by this stage quite exasperated and asked to speak to a member of senior management, to which he replied "that is not possible, I am in charge here". So I asked him for a phone number for the London Office, he said that is not possible and repeated what he said earlier about being sorry etc. I was informed that I will have 25.00 taken from my account each month for the next 5 months! As a whole the dating site is good. My principal problem has to do with the cancellation of subscriptions. Once you go through the process of cancelling your account, Match.com still allows you to communicate with users after the end of your billing cycle. Be warned. If you communicate with a user in the new billing cycle, they will bill your account again. It becomes a problem if you are attempting to manage your checking account balance. Their cancellation letter says that, "After your subscription end date, you will continue to have access to Match.com, but will not have access to our subscriber only features, such as email." However, you still have access to email. It's their way of getting one more billing cycle out of the subscriber. I'm not the first to have experienced this problem. The customer service was of no assistance and there is a systemic problem with their billing algorithm.

Although I haven't paid a dime, I do have a profile on Match.com, eHarmony.com, Chemistry.com, Lavalife.com, and until recently had one on Pof.com, etc., etc., etc.... I am not a paying member in any of these sites and would love to meet the girl of my dreams.... but after reading all these posts, I doubt I'll ever be. And the reason is that I feel very nervous about giving anyone online, except to an airline or a service connected with an airline, like Kayak, my credit or debit card info. Having been ripped off in Hong Kong by several thousands of dollars over the purchase of a camera by an avid and dishonest businessman, and unable to deal with the matter because I had to catch a plane out the next day, I am now very careful about giving out my credit/debit card info to anyone.
The sad stories I read here about Match.com and the other sites... of how lonely people are taken advantage by unscrupulous business practices makes me wonder why congress or the justice department hasn't gotten involved in this scam, and put these bandits out of business. In my case, I know that I contacted the Hong Kong business bureau and police after I got back to the states, and got a small consolation price when the company responsible for ripping me off mailed me a $1200 lens... Unfortunately for me, the credit card company was not helpful. I am happy to hear that British law protects the consumer to the extent that Match.com was made to pay back the monies owed to the gentleman whose subscription was automatically renewed without this permission.
It is a sad day when people's psychological and emotional vulnerabilities are exploited for monetary gain, leaving the people not only with a greater psychological and emotional void (not because they did not find their princess or Mr. Right) when their trust was violated, but also with a deeper hole in their wallets. Match.com, shame on you, shame. Shame.

I had a couple of emails from a man who was very interested in me. He said his wife was deceased, I am a widow, and he also felt my pain. What started to alert me were the inconsistencies in his stories as well as the broken English which did not really become glaringly apparent until his third email. I am a computer geek and reverse engineered his email only to find out it originated from Nigeria. I am assuming the first two emailers were written by someone who had a decent command of the English language, however the third email was horribly written. I had I subscribed from Match.com twice before due to bad match inconsistent matching and what I consider their practice of not removing your profile and photos when you cancel. Even though you tell them you cancel they don't tell you they continue to keep your profile active. They then can suck you back in by sending an email notifying you that someone viewed your profile and is interested.
The second concern I have, and the straw that broke the camel's back, was getting contacted by three men that were serial daters. Tonight I wrote an email to a man who sounded very interesting. He listed his age as 60, had a "yacht" (fishing boat), wanted to meet an intelligent, interesting woman to have fun with which might end up in a long lasting relationship. He also told me what college he graduated from and said he was a successful business owner who made six figures. I wrote an very nice informative email and had just posted an attractive photo, I am 62 but look 52.... I immediately got an email back asking me to call him as his typing wasn't very good. So far I have had one Nigerian and a previous encounter with a serial dater who only wanted to talk about sex on the phone.
I googled that one and found out where he lived and who he was. I'm a History major....I do know how to research. This guy was 66, not 60. Was separated, not divorced. Also, he had some shady business practices which had ended up in a US District Court in 2012. To top it off I found him on two other low end dating sites. After sending him a scathing email, I removed ALL content from my Match.com page. Very disappointed and felt like it was a total waste of money. Match clearly does not screen their clients very well nor try to contact you.....you would think they would be interested after I quit them four times. They got my money, that is all they wanted.

I wish to highlight a complaint I made to MATCH.COM on March 21st, 2014 in relation to one of their members who was name calling that I did not appreciate. To my SHOCK Match.com terminated my subscription and refused to refund the balance of my subscription. I contacted their representative Ms. Stephanie ** and she advised me that in the event I needed to do any further investigation, I would be required to subpoena Match.com through the court system. And with regards my refund on subscription, they indicated they do not give refunds.
In view of the above I do feel Match.com is a SCAM OPERATION and does need to be investigated by the authorities and their books audited in respect of the refunds they refuse to return. For the record, I had applied for a six month subscription and was about four months into my subscription. I further like to state I had initiated in excess of 1000+ emails to various ladies on their website and to my misfortune was only able to get about two dozen responses and most of them were negative in nature. I am of the opinion the site tends to use non-existent members or member whose subscription have expired to inflate their members’ numbers. In my opinion this website seems to conduct themselves similar to a scam operation and I DO NOT RECOMMEND people to subscribe. Once they get your money they will not refund. Hence subscriber BEWARE.

My membership expired, I unsubcribed multiple times. I want my profile off of the site. I emailed them numerous times to take me out of their site and to stop the emails. I do not ever get a response from them only continually getting emails from people who are interested in me and them offering 25 percent off if I renew. I want all my pictures and information taken off their site and I do not want to hear from them again. And I had three people interested in me, they all were cat fishes, just wanting money from me. I'm smart enough not to send them anything but I was not smart enough when I got on match.com. They're a scam.

I am a member of Match.com. I wrote an email to a man who I wanted to get to know. The relationship began very slowly and eventually he asked to move to Yahoo chat so we could correspond more often. He claimed to be originally from Austria, came to Florida with his dad at age 15 when mom died and recently re-located to Chicago for his job. At some point I did not hear from him for a week, when I finally did he claimed to be in Australia helping to design a bridge in Sydney. He asked for another picture, I sent him a nice face shot via Yahoo mail, he replied thanking me.
As the relationship progressed I noticed odd things about his vocabulary and spelling and use of expressions that indicated to me he was not American. On a whim, I analyzed his email with free tools on the internet and discovered country of origin was Lagos, Nigeria. I immediately cut off all contact for a few days. After 3-4 days I got a text from him saying he missed me and to get back on chat. I looked up his area code and discovered it was for Los Angeles, which I thought odd. I decided to play along just because, so when on chat he asked me how work was. I replied that it was pouring rain in Chicago, how was the weather in Lagos?
He was confused and asked me to explain, so I said Lagos as in Nigeria. He laughed and told me that he was secretly in Nigeria for pilot training. (and of course my siblings and I are having a grand time with all of this and it brought on much needed comic relief). The Nigerian Impersonator asked how my brother was and I replied, he is fine - he wants to know how an Australian bridge engineer has time to fly to Nigeria for some quick pilot lessons. In subsequent chats, he was extremely curious how I got his location, asked if I am a computer geek, etc. I said it was quite complicated how I found out and left it at that.
Once I discovered his identity, he changed his chat photo to an animal picture. My question is this, I am not a computer geek, but used commonly available free tools to find he is in Nigeria. Why does Match.com not employ the same sort of safety guards to identify the location of the profile? I am concerned because Nigerian impostor is now moved on to his next victim. Fortunately this time no money was defrauded, but that was clearly the intent as I was being set up to believe Nigerian Impostor was in Australia 2 more weeks, at which time I assumed the fraud would be taking place (he is mugged, hurt, etc and needs money fast...). Anyway, I am very saddened by Match.com allowing this to take place. I am getting good at spotting impostors and I wish Match would as well. I would be willing to participate in a class action lawsuit against Match and other dating sites to get them to radically reduce the fraud.

It was more than disappointing. Match.com do not care who register or if it is a scam when the it was so obvious to all. The only thing they want is to get money from you and even to grab money from you by deducting automatically from your credit card. 1. I noticed one 'member' set up three profiles within 2 weeks using different photos but everyone can surely recognize they were the same person.
Not sure if it is done by Match.com itself or match.com never ever look into members' profile though they claim to be responsible for their members. I have sent messages to Match.com telling about the suspicious person, but received no reply at all. And the three same man profiles were still there by the time I closed my account on Match.com 2. Their emails are useless. Just send out emails and many are just repeating. 3. With the 6 months payment, felt was like a grab by match.com
4. They grab money from members. Match.com automatically deducted 6 months fee from my credit card without any notification. Guess they assume the money in my bank accounts belongs to them. I closed my account the same day and never ever entered their website again, so no services was used.-- I call it a service but really doubt what is the service they provide. But still my credit card was debited and I need to file a dispute letter for the charge. 5. The second 6 months free period is a cheating as no one will get this.

MOSTLY DISAPPOINTING That about sums it up. The 'daily matches' really had no relation to where I actually lived! I tried even the most illogical and got no response. When I realized this was an excercise in futility I decided to opt out of the continuing cycle of re billing etc. As soon as I did, started to get a lot more interesting 'notices'. None of these panned out, again we're on another planet, more or less. Basically not worth the trouble.

As per many of the other posts, I was also automatically renewed - twice - despite being 99% certain I opted out early. I too had no response from Customer Service. I am afraid I am unfamiliar with US law. But UK law is clear on what are considered unfair terms and conditions and those which are open to challenge. We also have a simple to use system called the Small Claims Court where you can lodge a claim in the Civil Courts for 30. The process is simple to use, and the claimant MUST respond within 14 days. Match's responses are so appallingly slow, that they didn't even open the paperwork in time. I am fairly sure that I would have won anyway, but it was hugely satisfying to get a letter from one of their lawyers enclosing a cheque through gritted teeth (and fairly angry!).
I enclose my original complaint, and the paperwork I filed with the court. I encourage anyone in the UK to use it, and for someone in the US to see if anything applies over there. In the UK, apply through Her Majesty's Court Service or moneyclaim.gov.uk. Good luck!

They have canned responses and do not try to assist you in any way. During the middle of my trying to resolve the issue, they asked me how my experience had been with match. Then they try to end the conversation by saying "Is there anything else I can help you with today". Do not waste your time with this dating service. I have used online dating site before and this one was totally not user friendly and they do not help you find matches at all. I wanted to cancel my subscription seeing as it had only been a week. I called and they told me there is nothing that they could do about it and refused to give me a refund. They also laughed and ridiculed me while on the phone.
I spent over $100 on this site that I am not going to use. I am so unhappy with it and their customer support that even though I can use it for another 6 month, I'm not going to. Beware Match is very deceptive. Got an invite from group on for Match deal at $22 a month but at a trial period. I went to Match to sign up but the only choices are 3 months, 6 months and a year. I sent Match an email stating that all I wanted was a month, I'm not sure if online dating is for me. They sent me a response stating that they have a trial period and all I have to do is select the month subscription. So I took a chance. When I subscribed it had the 1 month but when I submitted my card info it charged me for 3 months subscription. I contacted them after 2 days and said I wanted a refund. There was no response.
Time went by, contacted them this week for my refund for the next 2 months. My subscription ends March 18th. I was told that I would get back $18 out from the $69 they charged me because they gonna charge me full price for the 1st month instead of the package price I got from Groupon. I called my bank and got my money back, tried to be fair and let them keep the 1st month. They sent me an email yesterday stating my account is blocked even though I paid for and still have 10 days of service. I sent an email asking why am I blocked, of course no response. Gonna call my bank on them again.
Lastly, their site was absolutely disgusting, 1046 views and no ones sends emails. I figured there was some sort of technical glitch. I sent an email to some of the fellas, no response. I complained to agent on the phone (by the way very difficult to get a human on the phone, now I know why). I get the wrong visitors to my page, they just don't match, not within my age bracket. I would receive views, winks, and likes from individuals today but when I view their profile, it stated the man had not been on the site for days or weeks. How could someone initiate a wink, view, or like today when they have not been on Match's system for days. If someone viewed me today, I would click on their picture to view them and it would say the person is not available. This happened often. The system appears to be invalid and inaccurate.

I am convinced the biggest scam artist on Match are the ones who run it. Forget the deception Match uses every day regarding profile approval, daily matches, and viewing partial profiles instead of full profiles. They offer a guarantee they will not honor and will try to steal your money for an additional subscription fee. It isn't until you protest the charge through your credit card company that they inform you of a refund and the illusion of having your account remain open an additional six months but do not tell you you will be blocked from using it unless you agree to pay them for what they just got caught stealing from you. Forget about any type of customer service, you have better chance of meeting that great guy from Nigeria or cute girl from China after sending them money to travel to the states.

I have been a member of Match.com since even before they started keeping membership records in 2001. I believe I first enrolled in late 1997. They have always been a difficult company to contact and deal with. Recently, I discovered that I was being charged $101.94 every 6 months. While I believed I was still under what had been represented to me verbally on the phone by a supervisor on 2/3/2010, as a 6 month guarantee that would continue to cycle as long as my profile was visible. Thus, I never watched for any charges on a very busy credit card.
Additionally, when I discovered the charge of $101.94 on 2/11/2014, I noted that my credit card data had expired on 8/2010 on Match.com's website. I took a picture of this data but am leery of posting it as it has personal data on it. When I contacted the company on 2/11/2014, I was credited for only the 2/1/2013 $101.94 charge. At this time, I had not done a review of my account to see if I had other charges and it was on the evening of 2/11/2014 that I noted 7 other charges that were wrong.
They have consistently refused to credit me with previous charges that according to the supervisor I spoke with on February 3rd 2010, should never have been there according to how she verbally represented the "Match.com Guarantee". However, the interesting thing is that my credit card data expired with them in 8/2010 but they continued billing me every 6 months.
It is important to note that not only was I billed with a credit card that had expired on 8/2010, but that the company had clearly changed my "opt out" selection at some point after my conversation with the supervisor on 2/3/2010. I had done the Auto Renewal Opt out procedure on the web as well as requesting the supervisor (on 2/3/2010) to make sure it was done. At that time, it was easier to do as the Opt out button was located with your credit card data, but now they clearly make it harder as it is buried in the help section so you have to go looking for it.
This sure suggests deception to me but you can form your own thoughts on that point. However, it is clear from the thousands of other complaints on the web about billing issues with this company that I am not alone. My credit union calls the billing of my credit card when the dates had expired "fraud" but because of their agreement with Visa, if it is past 60 days they will not do anything. My problem is I trusted what the supervisor said to me on 2/2/2010 and I also knew I had not updated my credit card data with Match so I presumed that they would not be charging me.
However, they apparently changed my preferences and then billed me multiple times with expired credit card data. The interesting thing is when I talked to a Match.com supervisor by the name of "Shawnie", she said it was perfectly "ok" to bill with expired credit card data. My bank calls it a type of fraud and that there are rules about what companies are suppose to do when their data has expired, such as get new data.
Not Match, they will not only change your preferences but will continue to bill you until you notice and cry foul. My problem clearly was that I stupidly trusted them and lost 700 for that trust. Very clearly a company with very low ethical standards who have found a gold mine and are busy excavating it.... your purse.

Canceling my subscription in the past had always gone without difficulty. Then holidays, life, whatever I got busy and didn't realize that Match continued to charge my credit card. In Feb 2014, I felt ready to get out there again and tried to log in to my old account... it didn't work. I was unable to get in or reset the password.
Because in the past my experience had been great I signed up for a new account, new user name and enrolled. Then my bank statement caught my eye and I realized that this month Match charged me $68.50 on Feb 18, 2014 and $34.99 on Feb 7, 2014. I called to dispute the charges. I told them I enrolled in Sept 2013, canceled in Oct 2013 then noticed charges in Nov, Dec 2013 and Jan, Feb 2014. I was told they would refund the last charge only. I spoke with a supervisor who informed me they had "system issues" in Oct 2013 and my canceled subscription must have been caught in a glitch.... Sorry, no refund. With very few exceptions, most of the 42 women I emailed so far totally ignored me. Most of those who bothered to reply said 'no thanks'. One said she was dating someone and wanted to see how that went, yet I've seen her online everyday on Match. Most who indicated they 'liked' me had their profiles hidden or removed so I had no way to pursue it. Some had no pictures. A few looked like they may have been gold diggers... very young with pictures of their ** popping out of their shirts. Two women openly admitted they lied about their age in their profiles. One gal said she was local but in her profile admitted she was in Vietnam.
I paid extra to have my profile moved to the 'top spot'. I got 27 views and not a single woman contacted me. More wasted money. The biggest flaw of Match and all other dating websites is they don't provide the member with any feedback as to why they were rejected by the person. So when my membership ends I will have not gained any knowledge about what I did wrong or how to improve my success next time. If you cannot learn then the whole thing has been a waste of time, money, and emotions. I would have been better off paying someone to kick me in the balls and then go home. I was given a three day free trial period if I entered my credit card number into the Match.com web site. After the three free days I would be billed $99.98 for what I thought was a one year membership. If I signed up and completed a profile I was promised a Match.com Guarantee that I would receive an additional 6 months subscription at no charge. Today I found that Match.com took another $99.98 out of my Credit Card account just two days ago. I immediately called them and explained that I did not authorize any further payments. Also I did not receive the six months Match.com Guarantee that I was promised when I opened my account.
They told me that I only signed up for six months and I had an automatic renewal on my credit card. I explained that I had no idea that my subscription was over, plus I never authorized any automatic withdrawals. I also never received my additional free 6 months. Then they told me that I am not eligible for the free 6 months because I didn't send or receive enough e-mails per month.
I told them I did not know I had to send a certain amount of e-mails out? I explained that I am not happy with their service and I do not wish to use it any longer and I asked that they refund the money they had taken from my credit card. They said they could not refund my money because in the last two days I received and sent out e-mails, so therefore I used the service. This is such an unbelievable scam. I asked to talk to a supervisor and was told okay but they will tell you the same thing. Sure enough the supervisor told me the same thing and was absolutely no help at all.
Now I'm getting pretty upset, these people just stole $99.98 from my credit card. I even said, Okay then pro-rate for the two days that I supposedly used and cancel the subscription because I do not want it any longer. I was told that it is not possible to give any refunds. After spending far too long with these people and getting absolutely nowhere I called my credit card company. I explained What had happened and that I didn't want this service and she was happy to credit my account back the $99.98 and put a block on my account so that Match.com can never charge my account again.
I hope that this will be the end of it for me. I can't believe how many people have gotten scammed from this company and they are still getting away with it. This must be against the law. I also agree with people when they say they think that some of the profiles are bots just trying to lure you in. I didn't receive many e-mails at all for six months but the day this subscription was supposedly up for renew I got about eight e-mails from some strange guy who was very creepy so I e-mailed him back to say that I was not interested and because of that e-mail they told me that I cannot have my money refunded. This is just wrong! I sure hope that someone stops this company from continuing to rip off the public.

Suddenly, I was slapped with another 3 month charge on my credit card. I called match.com to ask about this, and they stated that it was an auto-renewal that "I agreed to when I originally signed up." I argued that I was not notified that my subscription was about to renew so I would have a chance to decide if I wanted to renew, and if so, for how long. Not to mention, when using the app, like I always did, there is absolutely NO place that shows you what date your current subscription expires.
They said that because I sent an e-mail already (this was only a few days into the new 3 month subscription period), that there was absolutely nothing they could do, and that I was stuck with another 3 months whether I was happy or not. I even pleaded with them to change my subscription to a 1 month, since I had only used a couple days of it and wasn't happy. They refused to offer even a partial refund. They were so unhelpful and just kept trying to make me go away.
I filed a dispute against the charge with my credit card company, which they refunded to me. They gave match.com 45 days to resubmit the charge. Match.com decided on the last day that they wanted to resubmit the charge, and here I am, sitting with a $60 charge for something I used for 2 days.

Then, I check my bank account and find out that my account has a negative balance because of the charges they took out of my account!! WT double F?????? I am so pissed!! I updated my profile to let Match.com know exactly how I felt about them and their bogus claims. Since they took my money, they better approve it!! So in other words I can't reply to the women who respond to my profile because it says I have to subscribe when I already have a paid account. These guys SUCK!

Where do I start? Match.com was a great idea (still is by concept) when it came out. Where do you meet women in this day and age? A drunk in a bar? Women in the produce section in Wegmans? So the practical thing for most is to join a dating site but there are sooooooo many, it's insane!!!! Since Match.com is the biggest and has by far the largest members...... but that comes with a price..... and I don't mean $..... I mean there are more fakes, phonies and plain old scammers (which most dating sites are built upon). I could tell you some stories that would make your head spin..... literally!!!! Match.com's motto is more matches, more relationships, more marriages..... and they forget the most hidden fees and most important fact...... the MOST DIVORCES!!!!!! People will say ANYTHING on Match and make you fall head over heels for beautiful person who posted their high school yearbook picture!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!
Well to get to the point of all this..... I met a beautiful woman who was fun, smart, was just all around great to be with..... The romance and passion was my dream come true... She even had 2 kids which I adored them and treated them as if they were my own because their real father was a loser (which she really deserved). To make a long story even longer.... everything was great.... until a year later when I put the ring on her finger and took my vows in the most romantic little wedding ceremony. A switch flipped and she stopped being a mother, wife and best friend not to even bring up the sex or great lack of!! I should have ended it after a year of her cheating, lying and being a major ** to the kids and me but like the idiot I am I stayed 2 more years for the kids which she loved because she was out partying after work and coming home 5 hrs after work was over.
I packed a few suitcases and left all my furniture and everything in the kids' game room which I designed and built but I couldn't do that to the sweet and loving kids that I had protected and nurtured for over 3 years!! So I left everything (I know how stupid right....but when animals sense danger they flee if they are about to shot in the chest with buckshot). The moral to this story is that Match.com is a tempting trap and like other fine print reading dating sites.... you have to hold your cards close to your chest and to spend $10 and get a background check and look for and READ public documents like all the divorces that they forgot to tell you about and see how many people they screwed (not in the good way) and how they are scam artists. It cost me over $100,000 and broke my heart for the kids!!! So be careful out there and go join eHarmony.... I know you won't get the flashy lots of what seem to be the most beautiful and greatest people but it will introduce you to the inside of people instead the fake outside that most on Match portray!!!
I know I rambled but I feel strongly about this subject about Match because it cost me a lot of heartache..... and I hate to say $ because I would spend my last dime to find my best friend and companion. In short, Match.com is a trap and in my educated mind a scam..... Just ask me about my second ex-wife...... that I met on Match which lasted a whole year!!!!! I can't help being an old fashioned romantic that still believes that my perfect partner is out there somewhere looking for me and I'll spend the rest of my life looking for her..... but on a much more educated level!!!! Thanks for reading if you got this far!!!

I cancelled my 6 month subscription on November 24, 2013 which was to expire January 28, 2014. Apparently I responded to one of several emails that I get from Match by clicking on a reactivate account email on January 9th. On January 28th, I was renewed for another 6 months. I tried to explain to Match that I had cancelled my subscription in November and they said they did not have any record of the cancellation just a renewal (they were lying). I had a copy of the cancellation in my hand then they all of a sudden found it. They said it did not matter because I renewed for another 6 months January 9, 2014.
I put in a dispute with the credit card company but I know It will not help get my money back. I tried to cancel their access to my card from the site but it would not allow me to do that. So I cancelled the card. I then asked for the 6 month guarantee and they said I did not qualify because I had cancelled the subscription in November and did not access the account for over thirty days. They have their ** covered on all of this and their customer service is beyond poor. Learn a lesson. Stay away from Match.com, cancel your credit card that they have access to.

I recently went to check my credit card balance, only to find a charge of $119 for Match.com. I had not received any notice that my renewal was about to come up. About three months ago I signed up for a "trial membership". The amount was much less than what was just charged to my credit card. Although I was receiving "daily matches" from match.com I simply ignored them. I had signed up to possibly connect with some other locals who shared my interests. Instead I was contacted by lonely souls looking either for their one true love, or simply for sex. Most of these people were total losers. I was looking for neither sex or "true love".
I was simply looking for some new friends! I thought since match.com advertised regularly on TV and radio, they were a legitimate business. That they would notify me, when my account was coming up for renewal. No such luck! Likewise there is only an option to "deactivate" your account. I told them I wanted my account closed, period! No such luck. They keep it open, "so you can enjoy the benefits of match.com" for the time that they charged you for. So now I have to worry that they will continue to keep charging my card, whenever they feel like it!

It appears I am far from alone with serious complaints about this company. In spite of endless calls to customer service to make my profile very specific, Match offers no matches. And the ones they send are primarily for men who want a woman younger then they live too far away from me and the ones who favorite or Tweet me are bogus, as I never get responses back when I respond to them. When I have requested several times for a refund, the response is always the same that they never give refunds, no matter what the issue is.
THEY NEED TO BE STOPPED! Are there NO protective devices for consumers getting nailed to the wall?? They promised to not renew my subscription and I trust that they will be true to that. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO HURT THEIR BUSINESS... SIGNIFICANTLY? Can a major network do investigative reporting and expose them nationally? That might work. There are enough complaints across the Internet to support my issues. That is what we, who have been hurt by them, need to do to prevent others from experiencing the same nightmare.

Their morals and ethics are terrible and they're only looking to make money by scamming people. The automatic renewal policy associated with Match.com is deceitful and unfair. I used the site for a couple of months, then stopped and assumed my membership would expire after 6 months. Well they decided to start billing me again despite never even logging in or using the site. They're happy to send numerous emails for sponsored events or cancellations, but when they automatically bill your account they can't send a simple email notifying their customers!?!? I called and spoke to a service rep who said they wouldn't refund my payment, and also a manager who said the same thing. I will never recommend this company to anyone, and will write as many terrible reviews about them as possible.

I was upset but it is what it is UNTIL on my weekly MATCH that is supposed to be so accurate based on your completing a profile preference, I received a WOMAN within my list. That's accuracy for you! I wrote to the company and still nothing. I am thankful that I have never had the billing issue with them like most others. The issue I have is this site is that it is a complete mess in matching people. To start off with, on the first page, you choose which person you like by just a photo. Well I first thought it would be odd that I got an emails saying so and so likes you, take a look. So I would take a look, send an email and hear nothing back. I then realized that they were rating me on a photo, a photo that was okay. I am not the most photogenic person, but why would say you like someone without actually fully checking them out.
Then there is the quality of people. A lot, lot men have some really unrealistic views. A lot of men writing ads about 3 sentences long, looking for fit, i.e. skinny, highly intelligent and laid back. Now how many women are laid back all the time? Never! We are women; we designed to have our moments. I think if you’re not really attractive, slightly overweight, even 10 lbs and average, it may be a waste of money. I am not trying to be cruel. It is the results I have seen.
It does not stop there. Imagine this going on in real life. This happens at their parties. I am 38, going to meet and greets and speed dating events. Well the men are age appropriate, but what they are looking for is not. Ladies, the men 38 to 46 are looking for woman 25 to 35. I think Match does not realize this is what men want. I have suggested to them that they hold parties for gold-diggers. And the men still think that are great. They are 40 - 45. They are spring chickens and most have very, very unrealistic expectations.
In all honestly I only went on 2 to 3 dates with men. I was on the site for over 6 months and only went on out with 2 - 3 men. They were the only ones that made it through, the email, the phone call and the meet up. I have had over 600 men check me out, a lot of them multiple times and never say anything. Please also note a lot of men are just looking for a one night stand.
It honestly has done nothing for helping me find the love of my life and has actually made me feel worse about myself. Which is odd because I really never had any trouble meeting men in real life. I just really wanted to find someone who was worth my time. I am 38. I work out, eat well, intelligent and a great gal and I could not find one man to have a lasting relationship with. I feel I have wasted a lot of time and a lot of money.

(one e-mail) they could not refund me for the three months $68.97 that they had charged me. Ok, so I then said it's fine, I'll pay for the month then delete this, but surely I shouldn't have to pay for the whole subscription. Wrong I was.
The lady in a smug voice said, "Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do for you. Next time, turn auto-renewal off." Well this sent me into a rage. How unbelievable is this site. I told them I just wanted my info removed etc. She then explained I would not be getting a refund because I made that subscription purchase. I stated I would contact the BBB, they really don't care, because they know they won't have to give refunds. I can't believe they take money like this. They should honor refunds when a customer is not happy with the services that "are promised".
