Here are a few things Match.com does that are unpleasant: they imply you will only have to pay a small monthly charge if you sign up for 2 years. It sounds inexpensive until you see that they charged hundreds of dollars to your credit card. They don't tell you this, and you don't agree to it, you find out later on your credit card statement. The searches are inaccurate. First click on auto sign off. (You can never have this permanent. You must change your settings every time). Then click on Google and put in "match". Under Match.com you will see a "search" option, click this. Then you will see that the real search and the search they let you see are two different things! You can enter a username right into the "username search" box when you are not signed in and have it say "username not found" but find the user when you are signed in!

Don't pay for the feature to not let people see that you viewed them. You can view them this way without being seen. But if you're very particular that you are not reported as a viewer to others, it's not 100% foolproof, it sometimes auto signs you in out of the blue! And last of all, no matter how many years you paid for and even if you just joined, if you change your credit card information they will immediately kick you off and keep all of the money! Read quite a few of the reviews on this site. They are all the lowest star rating possible. The other review sites are BS too. All have 5 star reviews and this site has one star. It would be lower if it weren't for having a one star minimum!

My profile on Match was hacked into 3 weeks after joining. 120 fraudulent emails were sent from my account and a Colorado phone number and yahoo email address was given to the 120 men that were emailed. My account was blocked and I was unable to get this rectified for 3 days. A month later, my profile was copied and pasted onto another profile. At that same time, my photo was stolen and used on another profile. No apologies were given by Match and Corporate Security and I was blamed for having a weak password. My password is strong, but I went ahead and changed it.

Another month later and my account is blocked on a Saturday and I never received a reason why and sent several inquiries and made several phone calls to find out the reason. You can only speak to someone Monday to Friday and they have limited information. On a daily basis, I run across 10-20 fraudulent profiles that disappear within 24 hours. Great way to meet people that you would not otherwise meet, but Security is lacking and communication is poor.

Do NOT waste your money on a site that won't take care of their customers. They will auto renew your subscription and there is no option to avoid this. Brutal customer service or complete lack of customer service.

I looked into Match and went through their specials. What I could not believe is that when I chose a special they went right to "You are charged X amount of dollars." They never said if you want this plan it will cost you X amount of dollars. I have never used a site that didn't give you the total money amount before they charged your credit account. Also I got invitations to other dating sites that knew my online screen name. It was partly my fault for being so naive about tricky sites.

I am a woman and joined match.com when I was 32 years old, hoping to find a serious relationship. However, I met men on match.com who were interested only in casual sex. Also, many lied and were in fact married. The anonymity provided by the internet creates an easy space for deceit and scams. Recently, match.com aggravated the situation by creating the "private mode" feature which allows men to use match.com in secret. Basically, men can now create hidden profiles, look at women's profiles in secret, and reveal their profiles only to the women that they want to contact. This feature allows deception and crime to happen very easily. As a female user of match.com, I felt endangered because any community policing is now impossible. I canceled my subscription right away. The private mode feature is just unacceptable. No more match.com. It is a place for prostitutes, cheating spouses, and deceitful behavior.

I have been very resistant to joining online dating sites for many reasons. But after many years I finally decided to give it a try and joined Match.com. After only 10 days online, my account had been hacked. My profile was changed from being a woman to being a man. My age was changed, my username was changed and I was now seeking a woman because they changed my sex (I am a woman). I was very careful in whom I communicated within those 10 days. I never gave my name or any information about myself to anyone. I got very concerned about the security of the site. Match did send me an email alert that my account information had changed. I called them and they were extremely unhelpful. They couldn't answer how this could happen. The person kept avoiding my questions by saying, "I have restored your profile."

When I asked if I could have my money refunded as I felt the site was unsafe and was now also concerned about someone having my credit card information, she said they would not refund my money. I have canceled my membership anyway because now I know this is an unsafe website. So I go back in to the website to cancel my membership and now my profile has me as a widower, 6'1" and bald. None of this is true. What the hell is going on here!!! This is really bad. My advice - STAY AWAY. I don't know what the answer is but why put your life at risk? Are you really that desperate? By the way, the customer service at Match really, really stinks.

For anyone still thinking of joining after reading these reviews---this is how you deal with auto-renewals. When you join, and you paid with credit card, phone or visit your bank and cancel "Continuous Payment Authority" with Match.com. It's YOUR money, you control it this way. If you paid with PAYPAL---- login, click on the circle/gear icon at top (Profile). Click Payment Settings click My Pre-Approved Payments. Then find Match.com and CANCEL. It's that simple and immediate.

Paypal will send you an email verifying this has been done. And if you used Paypal, and got auto renewed, don't just feel helpless----login and open a Dispute, which may escalate into a Claim. You are bypassing Match.com. They will ignore your cancellation if you use their site to cancel auto renewal and steal your money. That is exactly what it is----theft.

I joined in 2014 for 3 months. My search area was 2000 miles, so I had numerous profiles to view, and I was on every day at least once but I started to notice every day that I was seeing a few "New to Match" profiles. But also 3 or 4 new ones that were NOT listed as new to match. This happened every day. I realized they had either just rejoined OR Match was not sending me ALL the profiles within my area all at once. They wanted to keep me returning each day. So, if that was true, what if my perfect match was available but I didn't get to view their profile because it wasn't posted yet? I was not happy about this.

I thought I was paying for a service where I could find men that were looking for a fun, attractive, intelligent woman to go out with that would possibly lead to something more. I was very disappointed when it turned out to be something much different. It appears to be a scam. Attractive men message you. They throw out compliments. They ask you for your personal email address. The next day their profile is gone!

They provide you an email address (yahoo) and hope some clueless women fall for it. This allows them to get into your personal info. What is left on the site.... many dysfunctional men. Most far away. Many just looking for some fun (hookup) and nothing more. The few men I did meet were professionals, nice men, but made it known they were not looking for anything more than an intimate relationship. The site is not about dating. The majority of men will message you a few times. That is as far as it gets. Most you never meet.

I stayed on this site hoping someone legit would miraculously appear. It is difficult for someone over 40 to meet someone. I find this site is for entertainment purposes only. The men are not serious about having any type of meaningful relationship. I cannot say this applies to all the members but to find one that is serious about it and you connect with is like finding a needle in a haystack. I think it is a scam to say this is a dating site. It absolutely is not!

I really regret the day I joined Match. When you haven't joined yet you get a lot of emails and winks and likes, but you can't open them. After paying, you might be lucky to get one like once every two weeks. I don't understand why do they ask you what type of person or how do you want the person to like because they sent you whatever they want and they repeat the profiles. My experience is pretty bad, I met a guy that he supposed to live in Miami and originally was from New York. I checked him on Spokeo and nothing bad came out, so we started talking, text and talking on the phone, he romances me in a very special way that it was easy to fall in love. I never met him in person and when we were about to, he suddenly have to go in a business trip to UK and he took his little girl.

After a month staying in UK, he said that he couldn't come back because his daughter was sick and she was hospitalized and she needed some treatment but he did not have enough cash so he asked for some money. I was very skeptical about but the guy even cried on the phone and I am a mother so I felt bad and I sent him the money. After 3 weeks, he said he was having problems with his goods in Customs, that he has to pay some fees. He asked me if I could help him because he could not access his bank account and so forth and so on. Long story short the way was not real fake profile, he is a scammer that operates from Nigeria and Malaysia.

This experience has been frustrating and depressing. Each day they send me 24 profiles as recommendations. Basically, their program grabs 24 and throws them at me hoping something will stick. They violate my "spiritual and not religious" selection that is a "must have." There is a button on each profile called "match me with her or him" and if it is grayed out I do not meet that member's search criteria. How can they call this a recommendation? Thursday 22 of the 24 had that button grayed out and Wednesday 23 of the 24 had that button grayed out. We all know if I don't match the search criteria, the man won't respond. One day they actually send "matches" and their program rated both the way I rated the first one, though I would have rated the second differently. This program is not nearly as sophisticated as I expected. They will not under any circumstances give a refund, even though they are not keeping their part of the "contract" as far as I am concerned. I am wasting my time doing the work their program should be doing. I sent out a few emails, just for kicks, and less than 10% even bothered to respond. I did however, receive quite a few emails from members in other states. Ladies, I highly recommend you do not put your money here. It is a waste.

I started with Match.com in the middle of November. I paid about $70 for a 3 month period, within the 2nd week there, I had a person instant message me and be really forward with me. This person decided to talk about other experiences with another person that he met through the site.....in graphic detail. I stayed polite and said no thank you, but this person just gets aggressive with me and used some strong language, all because I said no to not meeting this person and not getting into a sexual encounter with this person that I've never met in my life. I immediately block this person!

That same week, I realized that there were a lot of people not following the photo submission guidelines. They blocked a photo that I had put up that had only my screen name for Match.com's site to prove that I was the person in the photo, I checked the guidelines, I wasn't breaking any rules. I was trying to take the step to let people know I'm a real person, and I wasn't trying to scam anyone. After all, people are paying good money to be there and have a genuine experience. So I used their customer service and asked about it. I asked early December and have never heard anything back, not even an automated response. I decided there is no real point in filing a complaint on this aggressive person, they probably wouldn't have a response or they would just tell me to block the guy.

It's obvious this site is about raking in the money. In my profile preferences, I clearly put that I didn't want men that were separated, newly divorced or with children....nothing wrong with this, but I'm at a stage in my life where I can't accommodate enough time to these situations because of my career. Wouldn't you know, the only responses I seem to be getting are from these 3 categories only!

The guys that fit my preferences are extremely out of my age category, one email I received from a man 41 years older than me, I'm 29. The rest that fit what I'm looking for start out with asking for my number. That's super romantic! Every complaint on here is true and does match up to the tricks they play. They guarantee a 30 day trial period or so, but as long as you keep your profile active, don't hide your profile. Too bad the guidelines for the guarantee was hidden in the site, you have to know it's there to even find it!

People hide their profile because aggressive people are there. Only a handful of people ruin it for others, I've had my fair share on Match. One nice guy, out of my preferences kept emailing me about 3 to 5 times everyday. He was nice, but he kept suggesting I move to his state to date him. I had to turn off my profile and finally block him because he kept being persistent when I tried to kindly say no.

Some of these men think they are automatically owed a yes to a date, a phone number, or a guaranteed, real relationship because they paid into this service! They treat it like a mail order bride service, where, they pick and choose with no real thought that a women can say no. I'm sure the same is true for males too after talking with a few men about it also! In this situation, I don't think people are getting what they paid for. I know I didn't sign up to be bullied, to watch other people break the rules, or to get a bunch of matches that are the opposite of what I'm looking for. Match.com needs to refund EVERYONE back and shut down forever!

    Updated on 01/27/2015

I wrote a review almost a week ago after I wasn't sure if I was the only person inquiring about how awful the customer service is on the site. I read some of the reviews and saw I wasn't the only one with a bad experience, after coming here I decided I wanted to get rid of my account. I paid for 3 months at $70+ using a coupon code so my service for that particular pay period was from November to February.

I went back a few days later and noticed there was not as much activity with emails or views, I waited one day and saw I got a few winks. I went back and deleted my photos, stopped the auto renew, and opted out of my membership this month (January). I had an extra month and a few days to go to be done with that payment period but I was ready to move on. I also clean out my profile, made my profile hidden, and opted out of Match using my profile on sister sites in the settings.

After I cancel, I get a confirmation email that states that they're sad to see me go, upon cancellation my profile will stay on the site for 1 year, after said year, the profile will be terminated. Since I opted out early there is no way to read emails or contact anyone unless I pay back into the monthly packages. That's fine since I don't want to ever go back, but here's where it gets funny.....

I was surfing around on a webpage on day reading some articles. I mistakenly pressed okay for an add and my browser sent me over to the page, and sure enough it was Match.com. I had auto login so it went straight to my messages. I had noticed that my views were up and that I had 2 likes. I click on the likes and they both were for liking my photo. How could that be? I deleted everything I had, and made the profile private before I left.

Here's where it gets crazy, I notice the two profiles. These two "decoy accounts" sent me likes when I first started in November. I remember this because one was a noticeably attractive guy (he sent an email and said hello, I replied and never heard anything back), the other a farmer with a noticeable bald head, glasses, age 30. I remember looking over this profile because everything he was looking for, I was the exact opposite of....some match. I went back today and I see this on my profile "Im still working on my profile if you would like to correspond in the meantime please send me an email. Thanks!"....I didn't write that!

After all the time I spent there, I'm not sure who's friend or foe anymore. I only had two people truly ask me out on the site, but they didn't seem very committed to a date. I think they thought the site was for just casual sex and they thought I would just invite them to my house. It got extra laughable when I see Bob Stoops photo for someone's profile pic! I'm from Oklahoma so I know Bob doesn't have a Match profile, but it's a clear violation of the photo submission rules. There is no real policing of their own site.

I'd say 95% of the men there just want a hook up, the other 5% of men want women to drop what they're doing that day, move to their state, take care of them and their kids because they are so, so desperate.

I was taken in by the commercials for Stir, the Match.com's single events that are supposed to happen but every time I tried to see if any events were happening the calendar never showed ANYTHING. I don't think Stir exists, but it's funny how they 3rd party advertise for cruises though. All I know is, I'm keeping my confirmation email that says I stopped payments to this site....We'll see how this plays out in the upcoming months!

Match out of the clear blue and without warning banned my profile because of a complaint they would never tell me about. The funny part is, I was not a paid member for the longest time. I paid for a 1 month membership and went through all the e-mails that collected that I couldn't read when I was not a member. I responded back to everyone with an interest or a courteous 'Good luck'.

About a week into my new membership I received an email from Match stating that my account is banned and I will not receive a refund on the remaining 4 weeks of my account. I asked them why I was banned and they told me they don't have to give me a reason unless I get a written request from the police station to explain the ban? Really? 1 week and never actually corresponded with anyone but 1 e-mail. So, basically match took my 35.00 and deactivated me for a reason I still do not know.

Also, I noticed a lot of e-mails that came through when I wasn't a member that was suspicious as a decoy to make me pay for a subscription to read it. When I did out of the 30 e-mails I had, over half looked like fake accounts or lived either 10 states away or another country. Basically, I would want a reason for banning and a refund of the money I spent on that site.

Most people know that shady dating sites use fake profiles as a switch and bait tactic, enticing people in with the "subscribe to read an email from someone interested in you" technique and then cutting contact immediately following this, and I'd also seen the reports of match.com doing this. Given that match.com was a well-known brand I decided to give them a whirl anyway.

Within 2 minutes signing up, I had received about 15 emails from match.com. At least 10 of these were administrative emails, repeating the same data, but oddly enough I was getting "someone liked your profile" and "someone favorited you" emails before my profile and photos had even been approved. I checked and my profile and photos were still not yet approved.

To top it all, I also started getting obvious spam (as in random number usernames) from "talkmatch.com", roughly one message every hour, each referencing someone "winking", emailing or "liking" to the same email account as I had used to register with match.com, and with obviously different branding than match.com. It seems a little suspicious since I had not previously received any spam from "talkmatch.com" or similar domains prior to that.

Given the number of reports of match.com using a switch and bait tactic to get people to subscribe, I decided to close my account, only match.com doesn't actually remove accounts, they just "deactivate them". Meaning my profile data possibly will be used to try to switch and bait someone else. Even now, an hour after deactivating my account, I'm still getting emails from match.com stating that my "profile has been liked". I know that deactivation can take time, but the language used in the deactivation process implied that it would be immediately hidden/removed from search results. It is odd that a deactivated profile can still received likes and/or winks and emails.

I tried a membership in match.com by paying by check for a specified period of time, without an automatic renewal, which is called the "Greenleaf Clause". Some, but not all states, have outlawed the "Greenleaf Clause” from being slipped into the fine print in legal contracts. Match.com (as well as many other businesses) use this clause, which I and many others consider to be unethical. After my membership expired I have continued to receive numerous emails saying that I have been chosen by other members. This clearly indicates that match.com is using old profiles of people who are not members anymore. I consider this to be deceptive and quite dishonest. BUYERS BEWARE is as true today as ever.

I paid 3 months membership fee in September 2014, I didn't authorize auto-renew end of term, but match charged me $97.95 in December without my authorization. I notified my bank of such unauthorized charge, my bank contacted match.com to inquire the charge, but got no response. As a result, my bank charged the $97.95 back to match.com. Match's policy is the membership fee only gives additional subscriber features such as email other members, I was able to view and search other members even before my payment of membership fee. However, after my bank closed the dispute in my favor, match.com completely blocked my account associated with my email address, including TAKING AWAY non-subscriber rights such as searching/browsing other members.

I emailed match customer service multiple times between January 11-13, indicating I would resume non-subscriber features such as viewing/browsing, I would be happy to re-register if I ever see anyone I would be interested in meeting. Match.com refused, indicated if charge back happened, account would be blocked permanently. They even suggested me to re-register (JUST TO GET MORE OF MY BUSINESS). During re-register process, I realized I cannot use existing email address because system indicated "THIS EMAIL ADDRESS IS USED BY ANOTHER MEMBER".

I emailed match again, requesting match to PERMANENTLY DELETE my old account which contains my PERSONAL information which I can NO LONGER ACCESS. Match.com refused to delete the old account, which means match.com is RUNNING MY PROFILE WITHOUT my access or consent now. Match.com is very deceiving when it comes to their 6-month guarantee. They don't mention nor do they remind you that you need to send 5 emails to other members every month in order to stay qualified for the additional 6 month guarantee. I didn't know this and sent them an email on it. Now I am waiting to hear back from them as my account is no longer a member of Match.com. Also just before your membership expires or is expired, you will see a surge of likes and emails sent to you. I don't know if these are legitimate requests but it seems like Match has an algorithm to get you to come back and subscribe again.

Well, little did I know, MasterCard supplied Match with my new CC number without my knowledge, and charged $125 for renewal!! I cannot believe that this is legal and my CC company said they will attempt to fight the charge. Basically, match has my CC number for life, and I'm not sure that there's any way I can ever stop the charges... I've cancelled the membership, but now I've got to wait six months to see if I'm surprised with another renewal fee. Lesson learned!!! Don't assume your credit card number is private. MasterCard can and will give your card number out to "large" companies without your knowledge!! I'm really pissed but hiring a lawyer is too expensive. I have been on Match.com for a little over two months and am already seriously considering cancelling my account with them. I signed up for their 6-month Guarantee and the matches they have been sending me are useless. I have tried to get them to understand that the matches I get emailed to me are not even in the ballpark as far as being within the parameters that I specified in my profile. I am also receiving supposed matches that clearly specify they are looking for someone within 50 miles or less from where they live. Well, where they live is 300 or more miles from where I live. I specified that I am looking within 150 miles from here and yet they keep sending me these others. Their explanation is that I need to change my settings. Then they tell me that there are two different selection systems and that if my criteria are too narrow the system will send suggestions based on a much wider range.

Sounds to me like they have no intention of sending me any matches that are worth considering. I have gone over my profile to see if what they were saying could be true. There is nothing wrong with the settings that I have in it. I know what type of guys I am interested in and won't be told I need to change my preferences so that their ill-matched suggestions will match my preferences. I have sent emails to at least a couple dozen or more of the matches that they send (it's a requirement for the 6-month guarantee) but have only received replies from 4 or 5 and they were looking for someone closer to where they live.

When I first contacted customer service to ask why I was receiving match suggestions that were not in my preferred range, the woman replied that she had confirmed that I was looking within a 50 mile radius of Milton, Ontario, Canada and she did not know why I would be getting contacts from the US. I never ever said that I was getting matches from the US and told her she was mistaken on my location. She must have been looking at the wrong profile. I dealt with her for a couple of days with no satisfaction and then the emails from customer service were coming from a male agent who talked to me like I was stupid. I told him I didn't appreciate being talked down to by someone who was supposed to be there to help. They still haven't got it right as far as sending matches who are even close to what I specified I am looking for.

I live in the province of BC in Canada and I keep getting chat requests from faceless men who show as being in the US that is definitely now within my range and when I tried to check the profile of some of them, there is no profile. I am not on the site for men to hit on me through chat and being addressed as Sweetie Pie or Darling or Gorgeous or some other demeaning name by a total stranger is unacceptable. .

After reading all of the horror stories on ConsumerAffairs.com regarding not being able to cancel accounts without getting charged at least one more subscription fee because of Match.com's Auto-renew feature, I don't want to chance waiting too long to get out of there. I do know that when I decide to cancel, I will be taking a screen shot as proof that I have done it. I think I am also going to cancel the credit card that I used to sign up with, just to make sure they can never charge me for anything again. I have kept all of the emails between myself and the customer service people at Match.com just in case I ever need them. And, last but not least, if I can't completely delete my profile, I will make it unusable. If you are still working on that Class Action Suit, please let me know. Even if I don't end up being out of pocket any extra money, I would like to take a stand against the tactics used by Match.com so that they are either put out of business or are forced to carry on in an ethical manner.

Once you signed up you will instantly receive several emails from trashy girls claiming that she saw your profile very attractive and enticing. Looking at their profiles, however, looked pretty much empty with only one or two pictures. Sometimes there was no picture at all! Short introduction and most questions were unanswered basically it does not matter who you are. On the other hand, some girls wrote a long essay to win Nobel prize in literature or tell you how picky they are. Funny thing is that profiles for those girls became "hidden" several hours later and email button was disabled. It must be someone playing a badger game or aka con artist. I kept ignoring scam mails but it was really irritating me a lot.

Also you will receive emails from girls outside of state, which does not make any sense or whatsoever if you want meet up someone locally. What's the point? Although I spent a week on this site, most girls are doing exercise on fingers or trying to lure suckers for a slick sales pitch. BTW, scam emails were tapering off by then. Sending messages to girls you see attractive? Good luck! Most likely no response because it is either fake profile or online nerd who smiles for how much online activities were accrued. Real relationship will not be established through online. Online is just a portal to meet someone. This site is all about full of lies and BS. When I emailed him back, he then was very insistent and persistent in requesting that I download Yahoo.instant messenger. He was not answering direct questions, just blah-blah about being very loving and passionate and treating a lady right...then again insisting I download Yahoo Messenger.

Next day his profile was "hidden" and he ceased contacts with me. Then another very attractive man, outside my region, did virtually the identical thing!! Within only one day his profile was also "hidden". Via text he claims to only have been on a "one day trial offer" - which as far as I can tell Match.com does not offer (3 or 7 days)...but I was not offered any "trials" in which my photo and email were active, like theirs were! I have strong intuition, and it's got my guts in a knot. I will add, both men began their interactions with endearments like "Hi Angel" and "Hi Gorgeous" and used lower-case "i" instead of I when referring to themselves. Other grammar flaws seemed similar too. I will now cancel my profile - and my credit card! - and chalk the cost of a 3-mo subscription as a loss.

At this point notifications of interest begin coming in from girls outside my region. These come with no picture and some without even a profile allowed to email you asking for response. It's all about Match and NOT about you meeting someone!! If I were the owner of a paid dating site, I would go the distance for my customers! This would mean, any paid customer of mine would be able to talk to whoever they want! Even if the other member did not pay. For Example: the non-paying member would only be able to read messages from a paying member and correspond with paying members. This method would make paying customers happy! As it stands now, there are millions of members who are "passing ships".

Well, two weeks into my membership, I canceled all future automatic payments within my Match account. I received a verification page stating "there will be no future auto billing". I took a screen shot of that page. Well yesterday, my three month membership was up. Match.com took it upon themselves to pay themselves from my bank account anyways. So I signed up for match.com for a month subscription and was hopeful to meet someone in my area. Basically I would try and communicate with many girls but got very little response. I think it had to do with education and status. Because my two-year college degree did not compare with the countless amount of really attractive women that 98% were graduate degree. Not only that my 30-50 thousand average income status could not compare to the 98% of well-traveled women in the 75-150 thousand income bracket. It was ridiculous. But that is not my beef. What is, is just yesterday my 24 day into my 30 day membership I received an email from the "customer care" team representative "Tony **". I think it was telling me that a complaint from one of the members about me was in and they said I was offensive and this is a warning that my membership could be canceled. This surprised me and I went back to read my correspondence with the women to try and piece it together and see why, who, or what I said to warrant this. I could not find anything I would have said to piss off anyone or that I was offensive. None!

I wrote to match to ask for help and they kicked me off saying I had violated their policy!! Luckily my credit card company got all of my money back but if someone had used a debit card, that would have not been possible. My dental hygienist had met and married a man from match.com and I thought I wonder why all of the men I met were creeps and she met such a nice one? I looked him up on public court records and found out he was a felonious thief! Now I see why as soon as they got married he insisted they move to an expensive part of town. He is a thief and thinks she is his sugar momma! I do not recommend match.com. Negative 5 stars would be appropriate, but they insist I give one to post this.

I have paid for their services for 6 months thinking that it was a legitimate dating site but during the almost 50 days I have been a member out of the 16 people that contacted me, ALL OF THEM were only after money. I am either the sucker of the year or most of their customers are just scammers. On the plus side I can now spot them a mile away, first their profile says that they are in STATE 1 and when they contact you they ask you to text them to a number from STATE2. When you bring their attention to the disparity they all "have just recently move from STATE 2."

Usually they have a job that they love that takes them to travel extensively, when you text them, they cannot text you back immediately and they do it hours later (because they are in a different time zone and probably in an internet cafe). When you bring the odd hours to their attention they say something like "Didn't I tell you that I went on a business trip to (select a country somewhere else in the world)?" Or sometime just a relative that got sick. And it goes on but finally they have a sudden money problem and they request your help and that they will pay you back as soon as they are back in the country.

I went from feeling betrayed to being angry (fortunately I never sent any money), all I can say is that if you want to waste your money go there but after my experience I think I better go to the library, church, favorite cafe and hope to meet someone just by accident, it will be safer. By the way, I cancelled my account but after reading the experience of other people I am going to report my card stolen and get a different account. No, I will feel better that way.

I've been on Match a little over a month. I just received an email stating I had violated the terms and the next time will result in termination of the account. I chatted and called Match and this was the result. First they said they couldn't tell me who the complaint was from or what the actual violation was without a subpoena. Oops, guess who went to law school! So they were forced to give me the number and address to their legal department (I've since left a message since it was after business hours). Before ending the call with Match, the representative stated "Anyone can file a complaint, we don't actually investigate it". So I remarked, "So how do you know if it was in fact a violation of your terms, rather than a scorn member?". She fell silent.

The thing is, I keep all my emails. I am a Christian so I don't use profanity. There's nothing fraudulent about me or my account and the worst thing I've ever said in reply is "I'm only interested in men my age". The fact they don't even look into the situation to rightfully determine if it is in fact a violation says a lot about the ethics of this company. I'll deal with it through the attorneys on tomorrow. Telling someone you are not interested in them shouldn't be and isn't a violation. This is very careless business practices on their part. THIS is exactly why I went to law school, to prevent companies from manipulating and taking advantage of consumers.

Twice I've had this happen to me. Other reviewers have complained about the same thing. This morning I received an automated email from Match stating that "Your Subscription Has Been Reactivated" when I clearly did NOT reactivate my subscription! After purchasing the standard six months subscription package, I had PROMPTLY canceled and deactivated my subscription immediately after payment to avoid the possibility of match.com charging me again via auto-renew without my effective consent. I have been always very careful not to accidentally click on the "REACTIVE" subscription button.

It appears that last night 12/17/2014 at one minute prior to midnight, Match.com sent me a notification that my subscription had been reactivated and that I would get charged for another six months after my current six months are expired. Well the thing is, the WHOLE ENTIRE day yesterday I never logged into match.com, I don't have a mobile phone and don't use match.com's apps so the ONLY way that I could have accidentally reactivated my subscription is if I had clicked on it when logged into the site via the web browser. I never logged into match.com yesterday so this is impossible. Some reviewers have said that match.com customer service blames the victim, saying that the customer must have accidentally clicked a "pop-up" and gave Match permission to charge them again. Not only did I never log in yesterday, but I have enable pop-up blockers on my Firefox, and I use Adblock Plus and NoScript, thus making this an impossibility!

Last year I had a second similar situation happen to me. Days after signing up for a six month package, I noticed that after a few days it would no longer let me log back into the site. At first I thought I forgot my password, so I reset my password just to find out that the email account/address that I used to sign up with Match was no longer in their system. I created another free account to search for my own username to see if my profile had been deleted, and indeed it was gone. I also never received any warning, any notification, any explanation of why my account was deleted. Corresponding to this time period, I also suddenly stopped receiving any and all of the previous "match.com matches" via email, thus the totality of the circumstances indicated to me beyond a reasonable doubt that Match.com (for whatever reason unbeknownst to me) had terminated my account. My email to their customer service seeking answers went without replied.

Yet, six months later, like clockwork, I got another bill to my credit card for another six month package, this time at their premium (most expensive) rate. I called to complain and to explain the situation was unfair, since they had abruptly canceled my account and did not refund me the unused portion (which was pretty much the entire six month), then I was unable to use my account, and now after the first six months I was charged a second six months when my account was deleted. Customer service however denied that my account was ever deleted and asked me to login while on the phone. Lo and behold, I actually was able to log in. Customer service admitted that they saw that I had not logged in for approximately the last 5.5+ months. When asked why Match.com billed me again when I told them I distinctively recalled turning off auto-renew and canceling my subscription immediately after purchasing the six months to avoid the possibility of being re-billed, the customer service rep merely retorted that "I must have clicked on the reactivate button somehow".

Here is what I believe actually happened. Match.com terminated my account without cause, notice, reason, warning. But it didn't want me to ask for a refund so it terminated my account without giving any notification, trying to trick me into thinking I forgot my password or something screwed up on my end and that I'd merely forget about it. Sometime before my six months was set to expire, Match.com mysteriously and secretly "re-activated" my account without telling me and without letting me know. This both is an underhanded tactic to deprive me of the usage that I paid for upfront, and a means of setting the stage to trick me into another six months. This is just so that they can later automatically renew my subscription for another six months without my awareness and without my consent.

Match.com customer service said that they don't offer refunds and that I would simply have to use what I paid for for another six months. Some weeks later, my account was deleted again, this time with an email notification. I contacted Match.com customer service informing them that I had not violated their terms of service or terms of use, but they retorted that "some" users had reported my profile and that match.com was compelled to take action. The funny thing is I had only messaged three girls on there and they were all legit, appropriate messages with nothing that could be construed as inappropriate or violating any terms of any service. In total, I was defrauded and cheated out of a couple hundred bucks. I actually live in DFW, Texas and work in Dallas County. I thought about suing match.com but realized it wasn't going to worth it.

That was then. This is now. Back to the present day, I'm very wary and extremely cautious of match.com's unscrupulous tactics of cheating customers and this "theft by deception" has been going on long enough. I was 100% sure that this time around I immediately canceled my subscription and turn OFF auto-renew to prevent match.com from charging me again without my effective consent. But now that it is almost time for me to "renew" and my account is about to expire, match.com unethically "auto-renewed" and "reactivated" my subscription on my behalf, without my foreknowledge, and without asking for my consent, approval or permission.

This is to say nothing about all the fraudulent skimming, milking and repackaging of useless services that Match offers:

    1) Asking paying users for MORE money in order to reduce the amount of annoying advertisements and holding them hostage until they pay up? No thanks I'll use Adblock Plus and a custom hosts file for free!

    2) Asking paying users for MORE money in order for them to have the privilege of browsing other profiles without the profile owners becoming aware that they profile had been viewed? No thanks, how about I just browse the profile while logged out of my own profile or in incognito mode if I was truly that concerned?

    3) Asking paying users for MORE money to purchase "top spot" to get a few minutes of limelight in the searches? No thanks. This defeats the whole point and purpose of a dating site, and works more like newspaper classified by broadcasting indiscriminately to an entire gender. Why am I paying for plenty of views of members outside of my age range, outside of what I am generally looking for in a partner and outside of what I subjectively consider to be attractive? How is this not akin to paying taxes to build a public road and then having it converted into a toll road and having to pay again for what was already paid for? If everyone (you must already be a paid user to use top spot) paid for top spot how would that be any different compared to no one paying for top spot? In this race to the bottom, match pitches paying customers against each other, and the only winner that comes out of this scam is match.com itself, laughing all the way to the bank for doing absolutely nothing but selling a scheme based on nonexistent value.

    4) Asking paying users for MORE money for a "private mode" in which users can control who gets to see their profiles on a public dating site? No thanks, there is Facebook for that if privacy ever becomes that much of a concern. Plus that is what the block/report a concern button is for, right? Why should this be a premium feature anyway, why should paying customers get charged again for this?

    5) Asking paying users for MORE money for the privilege of seeing if a message was read by the recipient? There was a time when this functionality was included by default in the base package, now they have separated it out and reselling it as an "value add"?

    6) Asking paying users for MORE money to "guarantee" that recipients are able to read messages sent to them? There was a time when messages sent from a paid user to a non-paid user could be read by the non-paid user without the non-paid user having to pay for a subscription and without the paid user having to pay even more money. This is the industry normal in the online dating world and has been for a long time. This is unlike LinkedIn messages that guarantee a RESPONSE within seven days or else a credit/refund back. Match.com merely delivers your paid messages to the recipients inbox (shockers!) and charges you a hefty fee for it regardless of whether or not you get a response back, regardless of whether or not the recipient actually reads your email, and regardless of whether or not the recipient is actually a real person and not a scammer, spammer or con artist that set up a fake or bait profile! .

Watch out, OkCupid is no better (Match purchased OkCupid, then OkCupid's CEO became Match.com's CEO.) My complaint to the FTC about OkCupid: http://pastebin.com/mukH3iRJ. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree it seems.

Updated on March 13, 2015: More evidence that Match.com is engaged in a schematic scheme of defraud users through unconsented reactivation of closed accounts and canceled subscriptions. I wrote a review exposing Match.com's fraudulent practices of reactivating closed accounts without consent in order to continue a scheme of scamming unwary users. I myself have been multiple times victimized by this illegal and highly unethical business practice.

After I posted my review of Match.com late last year in December of 2014 I made triple sure that my previous match.com account was indeed permanently closed and I confirmed it several times. To be extra sure, I even called and contacted my debit card company, Bank of America, and told them to cancel my (then) current card account number, I explained my situation to them, and asked that they send me a new card.

I received a new debit card from BOA early this year in 2015. Since that time, I have not visited match.com website, or signed up or used any match.com product, good, software, site, service, etc. Imagine my utter shock and surprise when I log into my Bank account today and realized that a few days ago I just got another charge for $63.93 USD. I had made sure late last year that all my Match.com accounts were closed and canceled. I even canceled my card number and then got a new debit card. There is absolutely zero possibility that I could have accidentally forgotten to close my match profile account or that it was somehow inadvertently reactivated by myself.

This is more evidence that Match.com is engaged in the broad and systematic fraudulent scheme of scamming and defrauding ex-users who have already left the service and canceled their subscriptions and closed their accounts. Tomorrow I'm going to my local Bank to report this to a manager, then I'm going to file a report with the FTC and contact the FBI. This is getting out of hand and enough is enough.

First of all I never want to talk bad about anyone or anything but this has to be said. The biggest gripe I have with them is that they throw around the word match like they own it. Another complaint is that if they say someone winked or favored you I check my Email and there's no profile available check these other matches out. At one time on my personal page I had more than half hidden profiles, who would want the attention if they were hidden. But finally they have you make a profile stating what you're looking for and they personal keep showing matches they say, but they're not matches in the least. All in all it was not what I was hoping for, and I would rather go without anyone than to dig up profiles and never have your emails answered and to hope that you even get someone to view your profile that you favored.

I've been on and off Match.com. As you may be aware, you cannot read or send or view interested people if you're not a member. I noticed that the amount of folks emailing me, interested in me or winking at me DRASTICALLY increases in the following few days AFTER I cancel my subscription (and I've been on and off a number of times). Basically, it's a ploy to make you subscribe again so that you can pay to read the emails, view profiles, and sign up for membership soon after deciding to cancel.

My suspicion is that when you cancel, they post your profile in the Daily Matches in front of a whole lot of people, so they see you and click on you to favorite, like or email. Proves another point that there isn't really a true algorithm to match you and help you find someone of your preference, but any and all algorithms are geared to having you pay them more money. It's a sad state of affairs at Match.com, tricking people to use their service. Shame on them.

So at the end of my membership I was advised I'd have to renew if I wanted to continue. I can understand people's frustration being charged up front because the wording could definitely be clearer but I read the terms very carefully so understood it was a 3 month charge all at once. From the dating standpoint my "matches" were all over the map. Some very much younger men contacted me. I politely declined. Match does give many warnings about scams including the warning to only correspond within the confines of Match and not personal emails. Some of those are cheapos who want the Match perks without passing and others are scammers. I read a complaint about being contacted by people who aren't matches.

The Matches I got were usually within my criteria; however, anyone can punch in stats and you may fit what THEY want so you need to realize that. I met some real wackos and some very nice men who just weren't a good Match. I was emailed by a man a bit older than what I had in my profile but he seemed nice so I didn't write him off. We emailed, then talked, then met. I had just renewed my membership a day or two prior. We dated steadily and I took myself "off the market" and canceled my membership. And quite frankly I felt Match did their job so I never even attempted to get my $85 some odd back. We've been together now for almost a year. No, I'm not a Match employee! You have to be very careful but don't lose hope! I don't know if Match had changed how they operate since I was on but I know they could be clearer with terms based on all these complaints. But most importantly, they do not care about their customers at all. I went on a date with a guy, and after having a decent time with him, I brought up the fact that I did not like that he was touching on me. It was an invasion of my personal space, at least until I got to know him better. His name is Russ and he lives in Bend. He challenged me and said he should be able to show affection whenever he wants regardless of how I feel. Then he got up and left the Sushi Rest. and stiffed me with a $100 bill.

I called Match.com to ask them to please refund some of my money, that was the least they could do. I haven't even used the site for more than 20 days. Two representatives in, and a supervisor of the Customer Service Department flat out told me, "too bad", no one in their entire company could refund my money. Company policy. I asked if you even care about your customers? He said, "that is our policy. We didn't make you go on a date." Disgusting. I work with a lot of companies and I never in my wildest dreams would ever believe a company could legally or consciousness be so insulting to people.

I made the mistake of signing up at Match.com. My biggest mistake was not reading the small print. Later in the evening, I realized what I thought would be a monthly charge was in fact a lump sum. With the holidays near and being in the construction trades which is uncertain during winter months, I immediately went on line and canceled my subscription. Even though the transaction showed up as pending it still went through. In a day and age when you can return almost anything you've purchased this seems almost unbelievable to me.

After seeing the charges had gone through, I searched the signup and cancellation emails for a customer care phone number, no luck. I got the number from a Google search. In the end I was politely told I should have read the fine print, NO REFUNDS. This is a really bad business practice! So I have a years subscription with a company that I refuse to do business with. BAD.

He asked for my personal email stating that he was overseas and he had issues with match's instant messaging. He sent me a couple of photos claiming to be a soon to be retired widow. He claimed he was stationed at Camp Eggers in Kabul Afghanistan. He was evasive to my questions, but sent me a long winded email titled "all about me", which consisted of a military resume. I googled camp Eggers and discovered it was closed this year and that the verbiage he used to describe Eggers was verbatim. I further found a military blog indicating a scam that is occurring with men from Africa posing as US military personnel, who become involved via email and eventually ask for money.

Seriouscigars.com was hacked and someone got my credit card and personal info. They used different cards on different emails that were stolen so my card was billed 60$ and I reported it to my bank. The bank reversed the funds and cancelled my card. I got a new card a few days ago and now my email has 100+ emails from Canadian men interested in this female hacker. There was also someone else from seriouscigars credit card info used to create the account.

MATCH.COM does NOT verify email addresses actually belong to the person registering on the site! They don't use the VERIFY your email to login. If they did, 100% of the ** would be cut. Luckily enough I took advantage of that and made the spam and credit card some random emails problem. Didn't have to verify remember. :) MATCH.COM allows people to make fake profiles with stolen credit cards. If they at least (bare minimum) verified email addresses before allowing FIRST logins. The site would have maybe 1,000 REAL people. This is the best SCAM I've seen to date. I'm not saying people don't find love on here, I'm just saying it's gotta be hard to weed through all the fake hacker stolen credit card accounts.

Is there someone out there who can MAKE Match.com VERIFY emails so people don't get spammed? That alone would block the hackers from being able to use a fake card. But wait, Match loves the hackers... People get billed and most never get their money back... Why would they want to change their ways when they make millions? Maybe THEY (Match.com) are the ones hacking so they can do this scam? Also, credit cards should match the account name before they bill you.

I mean, it should be YOU, being honest, looking for love on a dating site, so the names SHOULD match. But if Match.com refuses to or does not change their verification policy (or at least ENABLE ONE), then it is my belief that THEY (Match.com) are the ones fraudulently entering card info so they can keep all your hard earned money.

I would like an attorney to contact me to see if we can get a judge to MANDATE them to verify emails at least so hackers can't as easily put in credit card info and steal millions from people. ** p!ss!ng me off...

I want to express my absolute disgust towards the customer service department of Match.com. Users beware - if you do not take your account off of auto-renewal for billing, you will be charged and denied a refund. I called a few days after I discovered a new charge on my card because I never got a notification that my account was about to expire and apparently they put you on auto-billing when you first sign up for 'convenience'.

I spoke to three different account representatives, including someone at their corporate office and they were unwilling to help me in any regard. All they tell you is "unfortunately, there's nothing we can do" like they are reading off of a script. What they are really saying is that, "I am not going to put any effort into helping you fix this situation because you are not important to me." This is the most frustrating experience I have ever had with a company, let alone a company that acts like they care about your personal happiness.

Then they sent me a customer service survey, which expires after 3 days, so now I am no longer able to give my feedback because that window has passed, so instead I'll publicly let people know how I feel. They also have horrible customer service hours (I live on the west coast) so they are closed by the time I get off work, and they've even cancelled my account so that I am not able to use it - but they're keeping my money!! If they are not going to refund my money then they do not have the right to cancel my account.

This is an absolute scam, and they are crooks who need to be stopped. I have seriously never felt so disrespected and appalled at how heartless a corporation can be. You can bet I will be sharing my story with everyone I know and who will listen, because as a professional who has worked in customer service, marketing, and management - I know this is not how you do business or retain customers, and I do not want to see anyone else treated this way in the future.

The problem was their profiles said that person was interested in me...listed they were looking for men no older than 40. One day I was online and I get three wink alerts in my email box from pretty women half my age. I immediately click on "View Their Profile" and all three profiles were not available or deleted. I called Match's customer service to ask why these profiles were unavailable since I just got the Wink alerts five minutes ago. The match customer service rep says to me, "We do not send fake wink alerts to people in order to keep them as members." The problem was, I never mentioned that nor did I accuse them of doing that. Finally when I emailed them to cancel my membership, I was bombarded with pretty women's profile, mostly from out of state. What a joke.

The scammers I came across were trying to get your email address or phone number right away when they send you a message or when on instant chat. Also by looking at the girls profile, you will notice a 29 year gal old looking to meet men 70 years old... yea right! Or look at their Ethnicity and it reads something like "Latino/Asian/White/Islander" and the picture does not match... yea right! So, again beware and always be on your guard. The plus side is there are a FEW real girls there. There are few and far apart. I did manage to meet one lady and currently arranging to setup our first date. But it took about 40 emails all together to get one to respond. It's all a numbers game. Just make sure you post your best recent picture. It’s decent site-- for a web dating site. If you're a trial member there's nothing you can do there-- you can't send emails, and you can't read emails if anyone writes you. And they review everything you try to post. If you write anything critical to the site, they edit it out. They used to be a lot more strict about photos. Now, if it shows your face they'll generally allow it. Like all web dating sites, they claim just about a 50/50 male to female member ratio, but I don't believe it. There are always far more guys trolling the web for women. That’s just life! Anyway, like I said, you can't do anything there unless you pay to subscribe-- and it's not inexpensive. But the plus is, women who've paid are probably more motivated to meet someone than women who do the free sites like PoF and zoosk, so that's good.

As a guy, I know the member profiles they send me everyday as 'teaser' matches (I’m a free trial member) would never write back in real life if I subscribed. So, expect to get sent a lot of cute member profiles to get you to subscribe, but take it all with a grain of salt. They sift through and send out the most attractive profiles to us chumps. No law against that, is there? Guess not.

Final: yes, I wish those 26-year-old really cute blondes would write to me, a 40-something regular guy. But I’m not going to plop down $40 a month for it to happen because it won't. I’d do a one month first. It’s pricey, but my experience with dating sites is the first few weeks are going to show the best results. Longer on a site - without a major overhaul - usually is about what you're going to get results-wise. When you do try to cancel they'll usually give you a good deal to stick around longer. In the old days they used to offer me a few months free when I tried to cancel. But I’m old now, so maybe not.

I am a tall, fit, professional in my early 60s and used Match several years ago when I was first divorced. After 6 months, I had interacted with about 200 women online and had met over 30 for a dinner date. I met a beautiful, fit, professional woman who was smart, funny, and enthusiastic about our relationship and we had a wonderful, exclusive 2 years together. It ended over events that were outside of our control and not either partner's fault. I had used POF during that initial search and met only a fraction of women compared to those from match. Over the last year I have re-enrolled in match, as well as POF and joined the free Cupid site. Again I have interacted with over 200 total women online and met over 40. Again, match has produced the majority of those meetings and those women have all been reasonable reflections of their profiles.

I have encountered a number of scams from all 3 sites, and a very small number of seemingly imbalanced women whom I blocked. I believe I have become adept at identifying scams and have a long list of 'tells' which seem accurate. Again, match produced only a small number of apparently fraudulent or block-worthy candidates. As such, I have seen and read thousands of profiles over a relatively long period. And I have been able to compare those to actual women in what I consider a significant sample. Match has proved to be remarkably accurate and a great help in my search. I have every expectation it will allow me to be ultimately successful. POF and Cupid are helpful on a smaller scale and produce many unwanted contacts.

I have now read several hundred complaints and 'reviews' in this website and found them to bear little resemblance to my experience. While I have not had occasion to request a refund, which seems the difficulty most often recited, many of the other criticisms do not mesh with what I have found. Repeated recommendations to abandon Match and enroll in POF and Cupid, only, strike me as illogical and nonproductive in light of my reality. That I found no good reviews, that match was rated most consistently a single 'star', and the regularity and location of contributors all cause me to wonder how or even whether these 'contributors' were vetted, selected, or screened. If this is exclusively limited to 'complaints' then that should be made clear and it would seem that the 'review' aspect would be irrelevant for your head note. The appearance of 5 possible 'stars' would also seem then irrelevant. If this is being used as a tool for those associated with POF and Cupid to divert users from Match, it would certainly seem helpful to know that, as well.

I believe that many of those who use these sites to find authentic relationships for their lives are already vulnerable to false suggestions about how to succeed. They are already sometimes scammed by other users on all the available sites, not just Match, and should not be further misled by a site which is seemingly positioned to provide a full spectrum of 'reviews'. If you believe this is somehow in your 'terms of use or 'review guidelines' then I encourage you to prominently display that to the casual reader. I will be interested to see if my 'review' is ever displayed in its entirety on your site. As written it has 2725 characters. Good luck, don't settle.

I reread one of my messages and noticed that my phone number was incorrect, and thinking it was just a typo, I sent another email with the correct number and an apology. I also saw that my email address was changed from "[aol username] @aol.com" to "[match.com username] @talkmatch.com", thus assuring that any further communication would be possible only through the site and a renewal would be required to continue. I still had two days left on the subscription.

Now I know that outside contact info is not allowed on match.com profiles, but these were personal messages. So, either someone at match is reading these messages and changing the content, or they have software that recognizes phone numbers and email addresses and automatically changes them without informing the customer. After being with Match.com for 7 months, I've learned and realized their business lacks integrity and definitely don't care about its customers and cares only about revenue. Ironically, Match.com is a company that's suppose to "HELP" people find love, and yet it's not a people-oriented company at all! Match.com automatically renewed my 6 months subscription with my consent. When I found out, they told me user can choose not to select automatic-renewal option. So basically, by default, when you first sign up to Match.com, the option of "6-month automatic renew" is setup in your account. As a user, you're not aware you had this choice until Match has already charged your credit card.

The "CORRECT" business practice would have been: 1) By default, assign "non-automatic renew" for each user's setting. 2) When 6-months membership is about to expire, Match.com should send an automatic email to its customer informing them their membership has expired and request customers to renew again. Also, apparently as I found out today, if you don't find a match within the first 6 months of subscription, you have 30 days to call Match and they will give you next 6 months for free. If you tell them after 30 days, it's too late and you will be charged for the 6-month subscription. WHY ARE USERS NOT INFORMED ABOUT THIS? So here I am, having been forced to continue another 6 months of membership with no option out. I feel that it is so unjust and unfair for Match.com to do this to all of its customers. For all those out there, please don't go thru the mistake I went through.

The worst men I've ever met in my life were from Match.com. The last man I met on Match.com was 5 years ago...when I was done with Match. He's an abusive bully narcissist (redundant?). He couldn't get a date any other way and surely no one who personally knows him would fix him up or introduce him to women. Five years ago, after I literally ran from him, I see he's still on Match.com, and other sites as well, scamming women. He is not looking for a date/relationship, he is looking for victims. He uses them for sex and moves onto the next victim. I think this is very typical, not an isolated case/situation.

When I told him what I thought, he bragged, "That's what almost all of the men on the site do -- get the woman pumped up, sell her a dream to get free, no-strings sex, and then dump her after sex -- it is what it is", he said. That's what he told me and 5 years later he is still an active member -- a very active member. His former neighbor whom I ran into last year told me he's had his tires flattened and other things happen and yet he still keeps conning and duping women on Match and other sites. In my opinion this is the type of people the site attracts. This is the reputation Match has created for themselves. Disgusting. Waste of time and money.

In my opinion there's something wrong with the men on the site. Every man, about 8 total, I met all had this same juvenile high-school boy attitude. I think it attracts mostly (not all, but mostly) scumbag narcissists and that it's a safe, anonymous playing field for sexual predators (perhaps not those with a sexual fetish for children or underage teens) meaning those who will screw anything 18+ in a skirt. Based on my experiences I personally think the men on Match are married and/or losers who can't get a date any other way and they are serial daters looking for sex at the women's emotional expense. I had the worst experiences with these men and once even had to call the police on one of them who had harassed me. The other stories were equally as disappointing and awful. A waste of time and money. I quit 5 years ago while I still had my dignity and self-respect.

BUT...this last guy I dated, 5 years ago, is still on the site every night for the past 5 years. I am able to access the site and have observed his activity for 5 years -- not because I care about him, but was interested in the psychology behind this man/boy juvenile-like behavior and also check in as sort of like my own unscientific but accurate social experiment and have authored a book about this -- no I do not mention Match in the book. He doesn't know my girlfriends and my sister and I all watch and we can see him on-line plotting, conning and drooling over his next victim, and although I can't respond as I am not a member (not that I want to) he is constantly scoping out new victims -- for 5years now so he has a sufficient number in the pipeline.

It's like a part-time job for him and these serial daters who have no intentions of having a real relationship because the site tends to attract narcissists. There is no hope/therapy/cure for narcissism and the narcissist cannot love you back -- ever. Narcissists have victims, not girlfriends and spouses. In an region/area where the women clearly outnumber the men 1:3, he and others have been on every day for years. Match doesn't track this pattern or care...they only care that these men are paying them and that is all they seem to care about -- M-O-N-E-Y.

I am talking to all the women out there who are looking for a relationship. Do not for any reason try it, it is a waste of money and you will end up feeling worse than how you started!! This is a hook up site. I wish I had read something similar before I joined and it would save me a horrible summer.

I am an attractive woman, mid thirties with a good job but new in big London, so difficult to meet people. I received hundreds of winks and inappropriate emails from very old or very young men. A lot of men that clearly we had nothing in common (physically, financially or career like). You could see that some pictures are fake (one of them had a picture of Will Smith)!!! All of them asked my phone number in the first few emails.

Finally the bankers started their game and I am talking about real players. Plenty of emails, CVs, facebook and LinkedIn accounts so you will feel safe. Very polite and true gentlemen. And then expensive dinners (they pay for everything, I have to give this to them), texting all day long for weeks so you get used to it, come to pick me up from work so I don't walk or use the tube, plans for trips, activities. They will say they want a relationship, they are hurt, they want to settle, they will always tell you that all the other girls were ugly or uneducated and you have the whole package (which is true, so why not believe it?). And finally when I was relaxed and thought that they were interested and I let go, they disappeared and did not even reply to texts. Well, they were not abducted by aliens, the next girl was available, so they use it to have an easy day for sometime, eventually some sex and then off for the next pretty girl. And for you who wonder why I did it twice, after the first one I did not think it would happen again and gave the second one a really hard time, making him wait a lot, but he was willing to give a damned good performance, no matter how long it took him.

So, unless you are looking for a hook up (for which in my opinion an attractive woman does not need match, we can find men easily for that) do not join. I did not even ask for refund, unsubscribed and do not want to hear about this again.

When I tried to get a refund for a terrible and scary experience, and also not even utilizing the account for months due to a surgery, they would not give it to me. They want to collect as much money as possible without even actually doing what they can for you. They will charge your credit card without notifying you. So I did the 3 months subscription - Now one would think you buy a 3 month subscription, then your account would only be active for 3 months unless you renew your account. Well, I am at fault that I did not read the fine print well and I was continuing to be charged for an account that I never used and thought had closed. After contacting the company, they were rude and unhelpful. The first person said, "we don't do re-funds", then when I asked to speak to a supervisor, that supervisor gave me 1 month refund. I was not happy with that, so I called the corporate office in Dallas, TX and I was given another 1 month refund. So a total of 2 refunds so far from a company who first employee said "we do not do refunds". So that obviously not true.

As a customer I would think it would be in Match.com's favor to please customers and in return hope that they recommend this service to others. BUT for me, I do NOT recommend it. IT'S A scam on the fine print. Be careful if you sign up and watch your accounts closely.

I met someone on Match.com who claimed to be 35. It turns out they were 47, and the images they used were most likely over 10 years old. I barely recognized him when we met. This man also gave me a fake last name, and told me he was a firefighter. I felt very awkward at our meeting and finally I went to the bathroom and pretended I was sick and left. This man knew my full name and he continued to text and I blocked him. He must have googled me because he found my email address. We never communicated through email. It was strictly Match.com then by phone. It was when he emailed me that I noticed he had a different last name from what he gave me. I googled that name and apparently he had been arrested! He told me he was a firefighter, which he WAS. He was actually fired for sexual misconduct, years prior. I explained all of this to Match.com and they said they "know how I must be feeling", but they refused to give me a refund.

After that experience I had no desire to ever use Match.com, so I requested a refund. I am sure there are decent and good people on Match, but the criminals outweigh the positives. I feel the least Match.com could do was refund my payment in effort to restore my faith in the company and restore the company's integrity. I still would never have joined again nor recommended the site to others given the nearly criminal experience I had, but at the end of the day you would like to think the company has your back and is doing everything in their power to ensure this does not happen to others. A simple gesture by refunding 40 dollars is the least they can do as well as at least hear your suggestions on how to better improve the security of the site. However, this was not done. As far as I am concerned this company has less integrity than the members who falsify information.

Now I was recently laid off from my job about 2 weeks ago and was not paying attention to my renewal date. I was contacted by my bank today of the new charges. After contacting Match they refused to refund me because they said they did a 1 time courtesy refund already. I asked if there was a manager I could speak to and plead my case. They said no and that they follow the same protocol. We all know that is BS because EVERY company has someone that has the authority to make the final decision. No compassion for people. I am unemployed and now paying for something 1 DAY past the renewal that they say can't be undone. I could see if it was 1 week or so after, but 1 day!!!

They automatically charge your credit card without warning. They don't allow you to see the end date of your subscription on the mobile site or the app so you have to have either a good memory or set a reminder to cancel before your subscription ends. A legitimate business would at least send a reminder email that they will be billing you for a renewed subscription BEFORE they bill you. I had to go through my credit card statement to realize I had been billed and when I called for a refund I was denied. They wouldn't even credit me for shorter subscription time and acted like they were doing me a favor by cancelling my membership so that it doesn't automatically renew the next time. Definitely not a customer service based business. Subscriber beware.

I hid my profile at the same time since it would otherwise be active until the 3 mo. term was up. I never signed back on but my card was charged July 11 effectively renewing my account. I called the company and was given an automated refund process. My son went into the hospital about that time and I failed to confirm the refund until I was charged yet again Oct. 11. I immediately phoned and bypassed the automated refund system. They refunded the Oct. 11 charge but in spite of admitting they could see I was both hidden and never used the site after I claim to have cancelled, they would not refund the July charge.

It is worth noting here that when I saw the second charge, I signed on and saw the active status. I cancelled and an hour later signed in again and found it active again. I cancelled again, sent an email and called the business office the next morning when I was refunded only the Oct. charge. It is a bad bad bad company. I have attached a screenshot showing the cancellation on my account with a confirmation #. The email that came did not have this number and you cannot see it on my account anymore without my reactivating my account. I did not have either a confirmation or an email the first time I cancelled. I think they automatically charge (renew) accounts and wait for the person to call and dispute. It's a scam!!!!!!

I checked out many of the online reviews as I thought about whether or not to get a subscription to Match.com. I have been a 'looker' on the website for some time, browsing the website features and available profiles. It was quite obvious that some of the profiles were old (one guy's profile stated at the bottom that he had added that last line in "2012" -- I assume that if his profile had indeed been updated in 2014, it would be common sense for his profile to reflect this).

A profile I favorited IMMEDIATELY became hidden a few moments later. The profile originally stated it was a 34 y/o male. Suddenly his profile became unavailable and the age was updated to show 62 y/o male. I have also received winks and emails when I deliberately made my profile hidden for a few days. How is this possible when my profile should not be appearing in public view? It makes me suspect that Match.com is recycling old/abandoned profiles to lure new users into thinking that many people are active on the site. I ended up not paying for a subscription because 1) I can't say that I really trust the website; 2) there are some other websites which are free and offer better features. I hope others will do some research before paying for a subscription.

Be mindful that all your effort on match.com can be a complete waste of time. Match.com monitors our activities. If they feel our activities are bad for business, they "terminate" the account without warning, without providing a reason, and without refunding any payment balance. That's what happened when I started to have a lot of correspondence. I had made lots of friends, trying to sort out who is best for me to date, when Match terminated my account, after investing all that time, just as I was getting close to finding the right person.

It's embarrassing to just disappear and lose connection with people you've befriended. Match does not supply a phone number for resolving termination issues. They handle it with what appears to be automated emails, telling you to read their terms and services, without specifying. And it's an invasion of privacy to read one's personal messages and monitor activities. This organization is out of control. Poised for a class action lawsuit.

On top of having wasted a considerable amount of my time, having separated me from people, especially one person that I was developing attachment to, and embarrassing me, they did not refund the remainder of my funds, which is over $50 without any explanation. If you're the type of person who is planning to use the service frequently, Be Careful, Your entire experience and bridges you build on match can all be wasted time, if someone there decided to terminate your account, especially if you have excessive activity.

Match also post PHONY profiles on here just to get people to join. When you do, you find out these profiles are NOT genuine. Also... beware... I give this company a zero star rating. I signed up for a subscription for match.com because I thought a paying site would offer better odds of meeting someone who was serious about finding a mate. The first thing that was peculiar (I should have stopped right then), was that unless you clicked the permission to auto renew it would not allow you to proceed with the prescription process! I decided on the 6-month membership (silly me) because it seemed to be the better deal. It also stated that if you took that, your membership would renew at the same rate (wrong... It would renew at $30 more! AND THE AMOUNT IS IN US FUNDS).

The first few days, I was inundated with flirts and emails. I would reply and not get any further responses. Then I got a message from "Thomas" whose profile showed pictures of a gentleman: he seemed quite nice, so I responded. I then received a nasty response from a WOMAN, who said her profile had been hijacked (explain to me how this happens, unless it is done from "inside"). I received another message from "Thomas" asking to communicate via personal email. I constantly received messages from "men" claiming they were leaving the site and asking to communicate via personal email. I did so with a couple of them, and found that their writing style would change (leading me to believe that their profile personalities were being maintained by several different people).

I noticed a quick way to weed them out was to suggest a meeting at a coffee shop... After I suggested that I would receive no further messages. I also noticed that some messages I received belonged to people whose profile "does not exist" or "profile is hidden". The thing that alarmed me the most was that the frequency of this occurring was far greater than chance (A word to the wise: if you respond to a request to communicate via personal email, don't send any pictures. I suspect they use them to create fake profiles).

I hung in for 3 of the 6 months, then decided I had had enough! I went in and removed all my details from my profile, as well as pictures, then I went to PayPal and cancelled my permission for "auto renew", then went back and cancelled my subscription and deactivated my profile. I have an observation about "auto renew" that I would like to share... If the site is as good as they advertise, and so many people find matches... Then why would you need to "auto renew" your subscription? Isn't the purpose to find a match so that you can get off the site????

I went back to the site (just to the "home" page, because I wanted to go in to make sure my info was gone)... Their site recognized my IP address (I did not sign in) and wouldn't allow me to even look at their home page unless I wanted to click "reactivate my account". I promptly closed the page, without clicking on anything. I'll bet that clicking on the reactivate would suddenly not only reactivate your profile, but also a new "permission" to auto renew!! As I mentioned at the beginning, I give them a zero rating because I believe that they make their money by preying on and taking advantage of lonely, innocent people. "SUBSCRIBERS BEWARE."

Match.com now has a feature called "hot spot." You’re basically paying extra money on top of your subscription fee. What it claims to do is place your profile at the top of searches for 1 hr so you get more activity. After months of no interested activity I decided to give Hot Spot a try. I immediately started receiving winks, some from very attractive women. I tried to send emails to some of the women who winked at me but all their profiles were hidden. Why would women show interest but not allow you to respond by hiding their profile. Is also an interest that most of the hidden profiles were from women that look like they could be models.

Since I bought a package of 10 Hot spots I continued to use them on different days and times. Every time I had similar results, lots of winks from mostly very beautiful woman but the profiles were always hidden. I did get a couple real responses from average looking woman but 95% of the winks were from model type woman who had hidden profiles. Also whenever my account is about to expire I get lots of winks, emails from women who never reply when I say hello back. As soon as I renew my subscription all the activity stops.

There is definitely some shady stuff going on with this website. It really appears like a lot of fake profiles and interest is made up by Match.com to deceive you into thinking people are showing interest in you to continue getting your money. I feel like an idiot for letting them string me along as long as they did. I've read similar reviews, why doesn't investigate this website?

This is an irreconcilable difference as is racial preference. Further the obese matches are clearly not a match for my active lifestyle?! Then there are the bait emails and flirts that I believe are initiated by the company. Before you pay there are endless flirts, interests and emails. The second you pay, NOTHING. Then, when your membership is due to expire you will again be inundated with winks and emails which you will then have to pay to read.

Match.com is totally bereft of any sort of conscience when it comes to how to treat their customers. I have now been a member a month, and can seriously say that I've never been so angry and disillusioned by a membership anywhere else. They charge you hideous amounts of money for very small possibilities of contact with other members. Only if you continue to "upgrade" your account and profile with lots of extra add-ons is there a chance to get actual contact with presumable dates.

And then, after this month of membership that I had ran out, suddenly there was 4 more flirts and lots more emails to read (which I can't read now that I'm not a member anymore). That's almost as many flirts as I had during the whole time before the end of my membership. I guess they have specially employed people that go in and "visit" your profile and "flirt" with you to get back in Match's scam payment plan. Avoid Match like a plague.

I deactivated my account when I still had more than a month of membership left from my 3 months membership I purchased. And I just found out last night, they charged me $78.36 on my credit card for another membership when I did not signed up for membership auto renewal. I called and spoke to several customer service people, and they all said they can't issue a refund because it is a company policy that their membership always automatically renews without customers permissions. If you don't go on the website somewhere and cancel the auto renewal, it will be auto renewed. Well, first of all, if they do not give you an option of membership auto renewal, and just put everyone on that anyway, that is very shady.

It is absolutely ridiculous, people call this a scam and also, if they received a refund request about it, they at least should be flexible on that. I never heard of one of those companies who auto renews your membership if you don't call and cancel it, receives a complaint from the customer who did not want the auto renewal and have a major problem with issuing a refund. Those kind of companies are all flexible on that kind of issues because they do not want to get known for scamming customers. But these people kept repeating that it is their policy not to issue any refund on this particular issue. Well, and the last person I talked on the phone was a supervisor, and he just said there is nothing he can do and just hung up on me. Wow.

My account auto renewed.. I called the next day to cancel and they told me I sent an email, so too bad... Spoke to a supervisor, she said she would give me one month but it was not even a fraction of the three month renewal. I put the charge in dispute knowing I would lose but pay them later. When I lost the dispute they had locked my account and then said they will not re-instate until 60 days.. by that time my subscription is over. You can't get a person on the phone, the people you do get can't help you with issues like this... so they are holding the account hostage.. I didn't like the site to start with but if I paid I might as well see if anything changed. But as I said it is held hostage so now I paid for a 3 month subscription and can't use it... How the rich get richer..

No need to pursue match.com regarding my previous complaint. Misunderstood and as far as I'm concerned it has been taken care of and thank you.

    Original Review: Sept. 19, 2014

I signed up with Match.com for a free trial. The first few days were great. I used my username and password without any problems. Then I was receiving messages from Match.com that I had received views and messages from those who were interested in my profile. The only problem was the company wanted me to pay for it. I am not interested and when I tried to log in to cancel my free trial, it would no longer accept my username or password. I tried emailing someone but as soon as I entered my email address it was like I was blocked to continue. I tried to find a phone number to make contact but was unable to do so. I read that you have to be a paying customer to have their number. I want to speak to someone to remove my photo off of this dating site. Anyone have it? After a free trial what do they do with our info and pictures. I did sign in through facebook.

I deactivated my account at the end of July but was renewed anyway. I didn't realize this until I received my credit card bill at the beginning of Sept. I didn't do anything about it since a month had already passed but was wondering if this is a recurring issue for customers of Match.com. I've heard from other friends that it has happened.

I also wonder about the ethics of this company when matching clients. I noticed that my requirements were ignored for most matches. Many of the matches hadn't been active for over three weeks (could have been more but that's the longest inactive period noted on Match.com). I suspect these members had cancelled their accounts but their profile was left on. I've also been matched with fake profiles on several occasions which makes me wonder how well they screen their clients (Google images is one source I have used to determine the validity of profiles).

I'm not requesting anything but would like this company to be held accountable for what they offer and what is truly offered. I have deactivated my account again and do not want to be billed for any more services. I don't have access to any pictures as I have deactivated my account.

I wrote a review a while ago about Match and thought I had learned my lesson. First off, I want to note to all I have used all the services that Match has to offer. Emails, winks, events, everything. I have actually, through sheer luck, have made one friend, a nice guy who after time, we are becoming friends. Then recently, I meet someone else who as it turns out, we are better friends. That I am not upset about.

What I am pissed off about is that it is all lies. I cancelled my subscription, I was done. The day I stopped is the day everyone decided that they wanted to contact me. For a week it went on and on with the likes, emails, favorites, everything. So stupid me, signed up for one month. $38 down the drain and of course it all stopped. To add insult to me, these people either never responded or told me I was wrong, they never showed interest. I went to an event, everyone was 30 and I am older than that. These events are meat markets.

So I emailed and told them what has happened and they said they have too much respect for their customers to send out false emails. RIght @#$%^&!!!!!! So I called them and they say my profile is fine and they are not giving me a refund. I never asked for a refund!!!! I asked them to fix whatever is going on and they say my profile is fine and they are not going to change. And on top of that they don't care.

They are not going to change. We need to start really fighting back against these people. They are taking our money and doing nothing.

He said when he was done with his business, he would move to the area. Well he started to have trouble with his business and he would lose everything if I did not give him $3,000.00. He harassed me and I had to go to the police. Of course he removed his profile so how do I report him to Match, so he doesn't do this to someone else? Match does not seem to make it clear or easy for reports. The next two guys were disgusting perverts! I wish there were a better screening process but I guess there can't be. This week in September 2014 a friend told me my profile was still there and it just says I haven't been on in 'over 3 weeks'. I googled my username and sure enough it popped up with Match.com but there was an overlay window that wanted me to enter name/email etc to look at the profiles. This site has one objective, & that is to milk you of fees. The default position is that when you join, they open the repeat subscription, which you cannot reverse for 48 hours. This I did, then they offered me a free upgrade, & unbeknownst to me, they reactivated the repeat subscription (they say that I should tick the box to unsubscribe for a repeat subscription, but as I am not reactivating it, I have no way of knowing if this is true). In any event, it is clearly unethical. I e-mailed them twice via normal method, & twice I sent messages via the site. I received no reply. The only way I could get a response was to phone, which costs 10p per minute, & even then the person on the end of the phone was rude & very matter of fact. As far as the site itself is concerned, it is not bad, but the whole business model is to keep you subscribing & snatching your money. The matches that it runs for you are so far away it is laughable, so you are far better off searching yourself. Avoid the site. It is expensive & designed to take money from you in any way they can.

I have tried Match for quite some time and have had no luck finding that one true love. I don't blame Match totally for that but when you ask to send an age group that is within your age group and you get everything but then there is a problem. I don't want to date a kid and I don't want to date my dad. I was ok with that and finally said enough!, cancelled my subscription. I kept getting emails saying that guys liked my pictures and my profile and I was put off because I cancelled my subscription. I went back into Match.com and deleted all of my profile and pics. However the emails keep coming and this is how Match gets people. They keep sending the emails of pictures of guys that are acceptable and try to get you to subscribe again. I am human and do look at the pictures and sometimes the profiles. Well, there was this one that really irked me!!! The profile these guys put up are amazing. Who do they think they are.

This one guy wanted a beauty queen, someone politically savvy, funny, dressed well, was going to be there when he needed her and there for his kids when they needed her, athletic, could have a good conversation but knew when not to talk, could look good in dress up clothes but yes look good in your cleaning clothes too and if he wasn't the one don't worry someone out there was. And on and on and on, so if these guys are so perfect and want the perfect match why don't they have girls crawling on them. Anyway, I just wanted to let him know that his profile made me mad so in haste I hit the send button to send him an email and before I knew it I was signing up again for match for three months. $80.00 + I immediately cancelled it on the Match site and then called my card company to take it off my card but they said it would have to wait five days to post and then I could dispute it. They also told me to call Match and they would refund me since it was a mistake.

I called match and after a half an hour of explaining they said sorry no refunds, so for a minute of getting my blood boiling from this guy it cost me $80.00 and change. I also told Match that if I wanted to renew I would have taken their offer of half the price but I wasn't happy with their company. They didn't care. I asked Match how they still had my card info if I had canceled my account before and they said they keep it on file unless you call them up and ask them to take if off. If match is that bad off perhaps they should take notes from other dating sites that are finding people matches and they might make more money. This is just a consumer BEWARE NOTE FROM ONE THAT IS SO SICK OF GETTING RIPPED OFF BY THESE COMPANIES. Sad that they go after the little guy. As I said I do not blame Match for me not finding someone, I am a little picky and I thought I canceled my subscription in good taste but this is now a different story. To take my money for one email and not even consider a refund after only a 10 minute email use of match is crazy. MAKE SURE WHEN YOU CANCEL YOU TAKE EVERYTHING OFF OF THE SITE AND ASK TO HAVE YOUR CREDIT CARD REMOVED.

After one month he was in love. He sent her sweet words and love songs. He said he was an architect and very rich that she would never have to worry about money which she said she was a single mother on a fixed income but she takes care of herself and her children and did not need money. Finally he said he was flying in with his daughter to meet my sister.

The day he was set to arrive he called her and said he had just gotten a big contract in Africa and they would be there for some time. "I am so sorry my love" is what he said. Then he calls her from Africa and said someone stole his cell phone and his wallet and I don't know what else. He calls my sister and said he was desperate and needed $1000. She told him she did not have that kind of money. So finally she went and sent him $300 western union. Just as she was leaving he text her from his cell phone and said "Thank you my darling!" She went back in and was able to cancel the transaction, thank god!

She ask him if they stole everything including his cell phone how was he calling her. He got irate and told her she lied when she said she would send him money. It has been about a month now and the text and calls have started again. He says him and his daughter are trapped in Africa and in danger. "Please send me money. I love you, my darling." She said she did not have money. All she has in her life was her sister now. He wants to talk to me and says if I send him money he will double it when he gets back to the United States. I told my sister to text him and tell him I think he's a fraud and I am reporting him. Monday I am calling the police and the attorney general's office.

What make me so mad is these people prey on other when they know they are weak of heart. My sister has been gone thru so much and now he is harassing her. She was right, she has a sister that loves her and I am going to put a stop to this guy or whoever he may be. He has text her 4 times this morning and want to know why I have not called him. He wants to profess his love for my sister so I will understand. His name online is Robert **, the number he is calling from is **.

These companies are not practicing with any integrity or moral. To think that they have some pretty personal information on you and further exploit it by trying to trick you into signing back up with them is just bad business. I was receiving emails from men and I don't even know if they were looking at my profile or one that the companies made up! I set a FREE account about 2 weeks ago. It soon became clear that the FREE account is completely useless as all you can do is search and surf. You cannot contact anyone, ever, at all!! So I decided to sign up so that I could communicate with the people I'm seeing on the web site, makes sense right? After paying the six-month program and spending about 3 hours sending emails to several people, I discovered a serious issue. As a paid subscriber, I can send emails, but only people who are also paid subscribers can respond. There is no way of knowing if the person you are emailing even has a paid account. So how many of those emails were ignored by disinterested people and how many were not replied to simply because they don't have a paid account?

I called customer service to complain about this issue. They advised that there is a feature which allows non-paying members to respond. The sender has to pay an additional $29.00 for that feature. What an obvious money grab. I'm sure there are a lot of account holders on the Match that haven't paid. They are just surfing the site and seeing who's out there, killing time.

Other dating web sites allow people to respond regardless of their status as long as the sender has paid. This way the paying member knows his message can be responded to at least. I find this feature to be very inhibiting and makes the site quite useless. That only a paid subscriber can respond to my emails should be made very clear in the beginning. It is hard enough making a connection on these dating sites but this is too much. Very disappointing.

So at the time of signing up on 11/23/2013, I paid attention to the following: A. Promotion price for 6 months at $89.96, B. 6-month guarantee offer, C. No auto-renewal.

I did NOT receive any email for cancellation as I did NOT agree to the auto-renewal to begin with. I made sure I met the requirements for the 6-month guarantee, did NOT see any charge to my credit card on 5/23 or 5/24, even 5/25. So I assumed everything worked out as I expected---getting another 6 month access for free. When a new member asked me about my experience, I told him "not that great. I'm still here only because I got the 6-month free access".

I had no idea I was charged on 5/26/2014 for $119.94 until I need to verify my payments for my Canadian charges on 7/21/2014. I called match for correction immediately, Edwin answered my call and told me they can not refund any balance even I "cancel now". The 6-month guarantee is not automatic even I met the requirement of actively interacting with other members. He can not show me where are the terms related to my issues in their "Terms of Use". I had to find out on their website. ---I told him their "Terms of Use" was revised in Feb. 2014 and I was looking at the one in Nov. 2013, he refused to help further.

I don't agree the charge because: match.com should give some kind of notice for auto-charge date and amount before the charge, like other companies do. Match should have better and clearer instruction about the 6-month guarantee. I had no more access to match.com after I called Capital One for dispute, although I did NOT change access code at all. To be fair and correct, they should refund me the $119.94 and get me the free access as I did meet their requirements. I know there are many people have the same or similar problem with this company. Anyone can help to stop it?

I quit Match after a month and my contract ended at one month. Many weeks later I continue to receive emails from Match telling me about all the men who have winked at me or are interested in meeting me. Either they are keeping my picture up in order to lure me back and pay another round or they are lying to these supposed men who are interested that I am also interested. Either way, it is dishonest and deceitful.

I thought I had done my homework by researching top online dating sites. Match.com came highly recommended as one of the top five. However, it is clear that this rating does not take any of the complaints lodged against this site into account. I paid for a three month subscription and after two weeks, had to remove my profile because I had received almost a dozen scams and only two legitimate responses.

When I signed up, I decided to put myself out there. I spend a fair amount of time writing the profile and uploading recent photos. I had a lot of "views". However, I quickly noticed that "winks" and "likes" were never responded to. It is as if they fell into a black hole. The site often said that I was "interested" or that I had indicated that someone was one of my "favorites" when in fact, I had never done either. I sent out 80 emails with less than a one percent response. The responses I received that I was most interested in tended to be from very accomplished attractive men with profiles very similar to my own. I was surprised that they initially commented on how "pretty" I was and often said "wow". Who wouldn't be please, right? What a hook! In response, I sent initial emails asking if they wanted to chat.

The first emails came in very well written, as you would expect from an educated individual. However, by the second email, the grammar and writing was so off that it was as if someone with absolutely no education was writing. The grammar and overall thought process of what was being written continued to consistently decline with each email. They were asking me for my email and phone number, as well as pouring their hearts out. (Ok - even I know that men do not do that upfront!) When I said I was not comfortable leaving the site yet, I was either bullied or told that they were so interested in me that they took their profiles down so they could concentrate on getting to know me and only me. It was strange that in one week, 5 emails from 5 different men from 5 different parts of the country all said essentially the same thing.

First, once I initially responded, the profiles were immediately hidden. Second, the formatting looked similar where paragraph headings essentially began with "my background", "my career", and "what I want". Third, all of my questions would go unanswered and if I asked for a recent selfie, I received a completely different photo. Fourth, most of the men were working overseas or had just come from overseas and all made reference in some form or another to South Africa. Fifth, when they sent me their phone numbers, the area codes did not match up with where they lived; or for that matter any part of their stories. Sixth, when I quit emailing, they came back begging me to respond or got very mean. Does any of this sound normal?

I am sure there are some very nice men out there looking to meet nice women. I wish I had found some of you. Unfortunately, I am a single mom and cannot afford to put either myself or my children in jeopardy. As a woman and as an attorney, I can't leave this site fast enough. I highly recommend that you stay off this site.

I joined the site for 3 months and opened my account on the phone. I specifically asked for it not to have the auto renewal on. During this time i discovered that the mobile app does not work in Canada but works if you are outside Canada (I travel a lot). During the 3 months i did not get any emails warning me about the auto renewal or explaining how it works. I didn't use the site much simply because they kept on matching me with people that were out of my match preference which tells me they just match you up with whom ever... I kept on getting matches that I had already said "no" to or already emailed show up in my matches again...

Anyway, after the 3 months the site automatically renewed my membership and charged me an additional $67... I called in the day after my membership had expired and spoke to the customer service and their supervisor and they kept on referring to the site policy... overall, a big scam... consumer be aware...

I'm a very good looking man at 45 yrs old. I signed up for a 3 month membership thinking it could save me money. I began with a search for ladies, sending winks and short friendly polite messages to probably a hundred ladies in all age ranges and locations. I was surprised when I received 0 response from my inquiries. My profile was very professional, descriptive and there were about a dozen really nice pictures of me. Nothing! I used their match every day and sent messages. I kept sending messages and winks to hundreds and no replies. Then I figured it out - there are a ton of men trying to score and a very small amount of ladies that have a paid subscription. So the entire program is a waste of time as nobody in the area is there and wants to pay their ridiculous fees to reply to messages.

Match.com is a waste of time. There are no contact email or phones on their site to make a complaint or request a refund and nothing works. They want you to come to their parties so they can make more money from attendees. This site is a waste of time. The only responses I received were from grandmas with no teeth living in trailers. Don’t use Match. They are deceiving the public with their dating site scam!

I had signed up for a six month membership. It was canceled after two months because I allegedly violated some obscure "inappropriate contact" rule. I know who reported me and what they reported me for and it is sickening that match would do such a thing. I had exchanged emails a few times with a female member. She told me in her last email that she had lied in her profile (which happens quite frequently but mostly you won't find out about it). She was quite a bit older than her posted age and very unapologetic about it. If someone lied about their age, what other lies are they hiding I wondered?

Without using swear words, vulgarity, threats, harassment, or intimidation I expressed my disapproval using words carefully chosen from her profile - her words - to succinctly make my point. Things like "it shows a lack of integrity and character..." and "you attract that which you put out there..." and "there are enough liars and dishonest people on this website already, please don't add to the problem..." Terse, yes, but it was literally one small paragraph and only one email.

She took offense and reported me and my membership was terminated. Not a warning, not a suspension, just outright terminated. No refund was due either so I paid for six months and used two months. I sent an email to customer service explaining that I was terminated based on the words of an admitted liar and suggested they contact the other 300 women I had sent emails to, the 60 or so I had corresponded with, the numerous ones I had conversed with, and the dozen or so I met in person to see if I was truly this cyberstalker, a threat, if there was any credence to her complaint. They cited their privacy policy as the reason they couldn't discuss the matter.

So, beware, fellow users and potential users. If someone lies to you and you even hint that you have a problem with it, your membership will be terminated. Of course, she was free to continue lying to everyone who viewed her profile and no disciplinary action was taken for her fraudulent representation of who she is, what she is, etc. But in the end I suppose it is so much easier to expel me than deal with the liars...If they cracked down on liars the website wouldn't be financially viable. I was expelled from match for telling the truth and doing what any rational, normal, logical person would do when they confront an admitted liar.

I bought a 6 month subscription a year ago. The first misleading practice was to say that you could pay month to month but then they take the whole amount out at once. So I tried the service and like some of the other complaints on this site, I got people beyond my parameters winking etc. I went to a stir event and found that the men were almost all in their 60's; there were only a very small few that were 40's and younger. I was 51. I realized that it wasn't working so I cancelled early so I wouldn't forget. I called first and the lady told me I had to cancel on the website, so I did. Anyway, unbeknownst to me they took out $119.00 in Feb and then again last Thursday. I saw the charge and phoned immediately - not open on the weekend. Called first thing Monday, I kept getting kicked off the line no matter which phone I used.

I got through this morning and the initial agent was so nice and polite, and he refunded the latest charge. He couldn't refund the earlier charge so he sent me to Jose # **, his supervisor. I was told repeatedly that I had not cancelled; that I thought I had cancelled but I had not, etc. He had proof in front of him that I had not been on the site since 2013, yet he refused to believe that I cancelled because I haven't found my confirmation number yet. Basically he's implying that I didn't use the site but I hadn't cancelled and I was allowing them to take money from my bank account for a service I didn't use. It's ludicrous. Yet he refused to refund me my money. He didn't care if I told all my friends, family or the public. The worst customer service I have ever experienced.

I was on Match.com for 3 months, & had a few dates. I am not writing about the quality of the dates/service in that regard. I went onto the site via my cell phone & turned OFF the auto-renewal feature right when I signed up (I have made that mistake before). However, apparently, it didn't go through. I did not realize this because, in my mind, it was done. When I was billed the renewal, I called to cancel my subscription, but the phone number on my bank statement AND the number on their website would not go through/was disconnected. So, I had to use the 'chat now' feature. I chatted with 2 different people (Malvy & Kacey) & we talked in circles for quite a while. It was frustrating. When I went to actually cancel my account, while chatting with Malvy, I ended up getting an account renewal email - and was charged $35.99 in addition to the auto renewal fee of $68-something. What???

When I complained about that, she acted like it was some sort of favor to me that they refunded that 2nd fee of $35 - when the website was clearly having some issues (in addition to the phone line problems). I explained that if I had simply forgotten to turn off the auto renewal, I would not be upset at all. However, something was/is wrong with the mobile site, as I had 2 separate issues with it several months apart... and I am fairly tech-savvy. Needless to say, I never got my $68-something refunded after talking to 2 people for over a half an hour. I was not at all impressed with the customer service - especially since I couldn't actually TALK to someone via phone. I am never going to use this service again - and recommend that you don't either, unless you will NEVER be using your cell phone to log in!

I had an active Match.com account from January through May of this year (2014) and I had about three dates in those four months. I sent out numerous emails and got very few replies. Half of the accounts that expressed "interest" in me, gave me a "wink", or photo "like" were "hidden profiles" when I went to look at them. About 25% of the other "accounts" were people who lived in other states. I live in Virginia and half of the accounts that said they "liked" me were in Texas or Minnesota. That's quite a long haul to go on a date. My first communication was with a scam artist who sent me some seemingly thoughtful messages and emails. When I tried to set up a date with her, she was in Singapore buying jewelry for family's business. This made me suspicious, so I copied & pasted the "letters" she'd written me in google and they came back as a known scam.

After that debacle, I went on a date with a girl who actually existed. The three dates I got through Match were with nice girls, but we just didn't "click". But after four months of persistent emailing and searching, it's not worth the monthly fee. You have to spend most of your time sifting through bogus accounts to find serious users. Needless to say, I was stupid enough to activate my account after month and a half of closing it down because I kept getting "likes" and "winks" in my email account I had connected to Match. I got re-interested, reactivated my account and the "likes" and "winks" all of a sudden came to a grinding halt. I cancelled my subscription for good this time. If anyone has any good dating site suggestions, I'm all ears.

I'm a 44 year young man from Canada (articulate and attractive) who has used Match.com on a few occasions. While I have met a few nice women online (I stress, only a few) the majority of the experience is a nightmare. Here is a list of the problems I have experienced: - Twenty-something year old women from the US reaching out to me on a daily basis (obvious scams, but I will say Match does a pretty good job deleting these accounts quickly). - Men posing as women (hard to believe it happens, but it does). - 50 to 60 year old women sending me emails looking to meet...like COME ON!!!! If I wanted to date my grandmother, I'd sign up for geriatrics.com - Women who post pictures from 10 or 15 years ago, pictures that aren't even of themselves or who completely lie on their profiles (admittedly, there is nothing Match can do to prevent this).

Here's my biggest issue...about 75% of the emails, winks or likes I send out (and I only send out to my age group) don't even get a response or even bother to look at my profile. I would imagine if these were legitimate profiles, they would at the very least read my profile or check out my pictures (maybe not all of them, but certainly more than 1 out of every 4). This makes me think the majority of the profiles are fake (set up by Match themselves). From my considerable Match.com experience, I would say it a money-grabbing scam. That is my opinion.

One click got me to 12 months payment processed instantly. After I paid, I had such a difficult time to upload my picture. I wasn't given an explanation. After spending whole day upload the picture, a message says the memory of the pic was too large. I tried to make the picture smaller by editing and resave. I finally got the picture ready, but my log-in is blocked. I called the customer service and a woman has difficulty speaking English took half an hour to get my email address. After a long while, she told me that the headquarter will respond to me via email.

2 days ago, I got an email saying that they have processed a refund, which I don't have any confirmation of, with a very impersonal response stating: for the best interest of this member community, I can't be their member; they can't tell me the reason; I need to get a subpoena, search warrant or court order to obtain the info. I strongly believe because of my foreign name, I am wrongfully targeted. I truly wish a lawyer can contact me. I am a physician practicing in USA for 20 years and a law-abiding citizen. I am humiliated beyond belief. Please stay away from Match.com. Can someone suggest what kind of lawyer I should hire?

I had a very similar experience with Match.com and its customer service. A lot of obviously fake profiles and scam profiles. The mobile app freezes constantly. And they signed me up for auto-renewal after I distinctly declined it. The sign up process makes it easy to assume that there is a normal cancellation policy. There isn't one. Tried talking to customer service, but it was more like talking to a brick wall. The reps basically admitted to every criticism on this site, then still refused a refund. For people who had similar bad experiences, I would file complaints with your bank/credit card company, and even file a complaint with your state's attorney general or consumer protection department. This goes far beyond poor customer service into the territory of deliberately ripping off their customers.

(I'm in Colorado) We texted for a couple of days and then started calling on the our cell phones. His connection was always being interrupted, so I gave him my land line number. He was "everything" I was looking for and he said I was too. I found out that he wasn't local to me but lived in TX, with a CA phone number. That was my first Red Flag! We started to email and he sent me pictures and I did the same. Couldn't send pictures to his phone, just his email. Ok maybe he doesn't have a camera phone. Then 2 weeks into "our relationship" he was being sent to Istanbul Turkey because he was a contractor and he was commissioned to build a bldg over there. He was going to come see me but had to change due to him leaving, but he was only going to be gone for 2 weeks and he was going to come see me then. I admit by this time with all the phone calls, romantic emails I could see myself with this guy. Plus the pictures he sent, he was fairly good looking.

The day he supposedly arrived in Turkey he ran into problems with the machinery he was going to buy and asked me for a loan. Not a small loan, a whooper of a loan. My heart sank! I had been watching Catfish on MTV and I thought great, he's a scammer. I googled one of his romantic emails and over half was from a "scammer website". So I immediately told him to get lost! He speaks with an accent and can't spell worth a darn either! He told me that he was who he said he was and he loved me and on and on and on. . . . No I didn't send him any money which brings me to an email I got yesterday. He threatened my job if I didn't send him $200.00. . .I called Match.com after I discovered the emails on the scammer website and requested my money back. Of course since I used the system for 3 weeks they would not refund any money even though my account is blocked and I don't go to the site at all now.

I wanted to make a complaint and all I was told was she would forward a msg to the main office. I gave her this guys screen name and told her I had been scammed and Match.com could care less! Thank the good Lord I didn't send him any money but he took more than that - he took my heart. . . I know that's my fault but I feel very violated! STAY AWAY FROM MATCH.COM. I HAVE TOLD ALL MY SINGLE FRIENDS THIS!

The worst part of Match is that it is used mainly as a way for men who are married, players, wanted just to sext, or scammers to find a woman to either have sex with, sext to, or get money from. I would say that 90% of the men that I responded to were in 1 of these categories. I found out after I joined that Match.com is known as a sex site not a relationship site. Then when Match automatically renewed my subscription, I called them to ask them why they renewed it without my consent. I was told that it was clearly stated when I first joined that this would happen. They must get this complaint A LOT because she told me the exact wording and where it could be found, when you sign up. At the very least if they want to keep the auto renew, they should make the statement in BOLD LETTERS and send a reminder when your subscription is close to ending. I think the auto renew is done in unscrupulous manner. Another huge problem is that this program does not work properly. It does not match people according to what who are looking for. It just randomly sends profiles. It is also very hard to figure out what you can do on the site, especially if you only use a smart phone. They need to make it user friendly.

Anyone can see and contact you, even if they don't meet the criteria. For example almost all incoming contacts were outside the age range I had given match.com. This wastes a lot of time. Finally the site uses recurring billing so you have to remember to cancel or you will get billed again.

When I have emailed their Customer Service department I get a form sent to me within seconds that states the member has taken his profile off even though I just received the email and responded to it within minutes. My other complaint is that I Google Image every single one of the photos I receive.

I have sent the Customer Service Department the links on the internet that state the photo in the profile is being used fraudulently. I then check that profile and find it on-line for up to a week later. One profile took two pictures off a male model's Facebook page and another off LinkedIn of a completely different person. All three were on one profile. I emailed both the model and the LinkedIn person to let them know that Match.com had been notified that their photos were being used. In one week I found 10 "Profiles" using fraudulent photos.
