Like everyone else on this site, these ** at classmates.com took $39 from my credit card without my authorization. They refused to credit it back. Their service is **, and I want nothing to do with it. I intend on contacting the State Attorney General, BBB, and every scam and blog site on the net. I will make sure it costs them more than the 39 bucks they stole from me! It is amazing to me how these ** are allowed to continue operating. They need to be shut down. A class action lawsuit also needs to be pursued. How many other people have been victims to these criminals? Please help me!

I tried talking to anyone regarding the $39.00 annual automatic charge, but to no avail. It is not only highly misleading, it was also originally offered free. This is a very dishonest company, with dishonest personnel to boot. I don't think the owner even has a conscience.
I will, as soon as possible, close this account that they are using. This situation has caused much stress, as well as financial frustration. I have two serious illnesses. One pulmonary embolism, and a bad heart. It costs me over $500.00 a month for medications, and that is just with the co-pay. We also have a daughter, and four children critically injured in a car rollover crash this last June, and it takes all we can do to make it. I just want my membership stopped because we are also disconnecting our internet, also because of financial stress. I hope someone can stop this illegal action, and false representation.

My credit card was charged $39 in March for a Gold Membership renewal, I did not agree to. I immediately wrote to Classmates.com requesting a refund, but they refused, only telling me to cancel membership before next March if I didn't want to get charged again. On 9/2, (6 months later) I received an email from Classmates.com saying I had a new signature in my guest book. Out of curiosity, I logged onto the site, but the signature was blurred out and a note told me I could see it if I signed up for Gold Membership!
I pulled up the email from March and forwarded it to Classmates.com pointing out I already had Gold Membership, but wanted to cancel it. Today, when I came home (9/3) and logged into my email I had a message from Classmates.com thanking me for signing up for my new Gold Membership! There was another email from Classmates.com telling me I had two trial memberships. I called my credit card company to tell them not to pay this company another $39, but they just told me I would have to dispute any charge after it was made and suggested I might consider changing my credit card number. I really don't want to have to do that. I just want to get out of Classmates.com!

I paid for a membership in 2008 ahead of my high school reunion. Today, I had a charge on my credit card for $39. I called them immediately and they said I signed up for "automatic" renewal which I never do. They must've charged my card last year too without my knowledge. They refused to refund my money, but did say they would refund it partially by changing my membership from "gold" to basic. This is a huge scam! They are ripping everyone off.

I, too, was recently charged the $39 fee from classmates.com. I did not even expect it. I budget my accounts also. And it has caused insufficient funds for me. I know I did not agree to this and I also know that they don't deliver what they say you get on the gold member services. I want a phone number for them, but can't find it. Emails from them are pre-typed. I won't give up. I am sick of being scammed.

My 'trial' membership abut 3-4 years ago with this site proved to be farcical. There was one contact made with a person actually in my graduating class. I have yet to get the messages classmates claimed was on my message board and those listed as 'looking for me' were people I had never met or known from classes long before me and those who came even after I left Galveston!
This is a farce and a scam big time. I personally doubt that anyone gets anything out of it. I have asked on several occasions to be dropped completely from any of their lists since I keep getting emails from them. Apparently, they ignore my responses or have a base in Iraq or Iran where no one speaks English! Most people I knew in Galveston have departed there long ago, are dead, or have actually made no effort to find me, as I have relatives still living in the city! And a friend or two who know exactly where I am and those places I have lived for the last 62 years!
Remove my name from any and all records having any remote connection with this site! I have never paid one dime to them but they still keep contacting me about someone unknown to me looking for me! Scam named Classmates! Just tried to submit my complaint and the site would not allow me to do it!

Classmates.com charged my bank account for 39.00 for renewal fee. I called them and their response that I agreed to automatic renewal when I joined classmates.com. Since this is an account that I keep a small amount of money in, it over drafted the account by .92 cents and was charged an overdraft fee. Plus it reflects on your credit rating, so, now I will close this account that I have had for years, just so it does not happen again. Overdraft fees, embarrassment, and credit scores.

Another one caught in their scam. Their default is automatic renewal, which was noted in a very fine print. You have to dig through their website to find the button to eliminate the automatic renewal. Then, a $15 three-month renewal charge appeared on my credit card. I worked through my credit card company, but Classmates.com won't budge. They are crashing and burning--Facebook has seriously harmed their business, so they are desperate and using these unethical practices to get as much money as possible. Last year, I signed up for Gold Membership and chose the manual renewal. Didn't use much, very boring. On July 31st by chance I was online checking my checking account and see a $39 charge from Classmates.com. I immediately tried to contact them, waiting 45 mins. on hold ended up being disconnected. Looked up my account and found that they had put my account in automatic renewal in which I again changed to manual. I deleted my credit card and my ATM from my account. I emailed them and told them I did not want to renew. No response from my email.
About two weeks later, I get a bill from my Visa Credit Card and Classmates.com charged my credit card $39. Now I've been charged twice. Went online and found that my credit card information was back and automatic renewal was back. I again emailed them and finally got a response of basically thanking me for signing up and if I go into my account I can choose "manual" for next year. After numerous emails they are stating that they can only see one charge. My bank is now working on my ATM charge and they also have a copy of the Target Visa Credit Card charge to back me that I was charged twice. This company is a major scam. I want all of my money back.

This is a cheap trick to get a little extra money and since they weren't authorized to charge until the 20th, improper. Want to get back at them, contact the AG from their home state and file a complaint. They seem to have a sliding set of practices to suit them, not the users.

Classmates’ phone number is **. So many people have commented that they couldn't find a place to contact them. Hint: make sure you can document that you called them and get the name of the person you talked to. I have had the same problem that most of these people had, being billed for services I did not want. When my credit card was billed for a renewal period, I immediately called Classmates and asked that the charge be reversed. Yeah, good Luck! They flatly refused. So, I called my credit card company - Wells Fargo. They gave me a conditional credit but rebilled me when Classmates convinced them to charge me for the renewal. I looked up this website and was shocked that some have reported canceling the service but were charged anyway.
Is this a new kind of slavery? Wells Fargo told me to "write a letter" about the dispute, the fact that I had no access to the site, even though Classmates had my $39 for the renewal period. So, I had gone into their bulletin board and warned others to keep track of their renewal date so they don't get charged for unwanted subscriptions. That may be the reason I'm banned. I have alerted people I know to cancel now if they don't want the service. I'm worried now that I have read that Classmates have sold personal information. First, I have posted over 25,000 messages to political-oriented Usenet discussion groups (through Google.com) for over 12 years. It is a slice of cyber space where there is much bickering and feuding going on, and I have acquired many personal enemies there.
I am one of two separate users on our home PC and I log in under a separate MSN email from my wife's. Yesterday, when I was surfing under my own Google and MSN account, I entered a classmates.com link that someone had posted in my favorite UseNet discussion group. This happened to be a classmates.com link for a regular poster there, that doesn't like me very much, and would love to have something (like my identity) to use to cause me grief.
Maybe not he himself personally, but he knows if given the right information, there are those out there who may really be crazy enough to do so. When I clicked on that link, it took me to his homepage on classmates. I'm not a member there so I didn't notice until the 2nd time that I went in, but at the bottom it said "visited by Susan **". That is my wife! Not me! She is an active member of that website (which I wasn't even aware of). So for some reason, her name is appearing on another classmates member's homepage, even though I was not logged into her MSN account on our home computer or their classmates website.
How can these people allow this to happen? You'd think they'd know that there are other people in the same household who have separate accounts on the same computer. And those people shouldn't have to worry that they can't even use their own personal log in and email account to surf the net without leaving a cyber trail from someone else in the house who just happens to have an account with an irresponsible outfit like them.
Their system is apparently carelessly using our computer's IP number to ID all of us when we go to these pages, instead of using our own individual user ISP email accounts or classmates.com account.
The bottom line is, I can no longer post under my own once-secure user name anywhere on the net without living in fear of who will see "Susan **." if the link I go to is in some way linked to classmates. If some of these people on Usenet get my wife's name and city thru classmates and there are plenty of crazies. They can put that info together with any other little tidbit that they may have gleaned over the years and either track us down or at least find out where she works and harass us in some way.
This is totally irresponsible for them to connect systems and people in the manner. And an obscure box to click to take away what should have never appeared without that person's express approval in the first place (like them manually entering their own name and number themselves? ) is not enough to thwart situations like these. I was blind-sided and run over by these people in their rush for personal success. And it might yet get worse before it gets better.

On February 2009, I discovered that classmates had been charging my account for 4 other companies that I didn't authorize. I called and cancelled the 4 companies and classmates on 2-13-2009. I received cancellation notices for all but classmates. I just found that classmates charged another fee of $59 for a two year membership without any notification. Upon calling them they said they had the right according to the agreement that I accepted when I signed up. They were able to find all of the info about the other companies that they cancelled but not classmates. The even told me that they are separate companies and that when I called in last year I couldn't have cancelled my classmates account because they are not affiliated with each other.
My issue with this is that they shared my personal and financial info with other companies without my consent. And if classmates.com is separate company how can they look on a computer screen and see when I cancelled the other accounts. If I was to do this in the financial industry I would be fined and lose my license to do business. They are getting away with theft and are very aware of it, this needs to stop!

No contact or use of the service since, then lo and behold, another sneaky bill on the credit card statement. If you go to their site, you will not find a phone number to contact them anywhere on it. Pure scam.
Just beginning a protracted effort to see what can be done. Banks aren't usually helpful telling us to contact them directly. Lawyers are too expensive and not really an option from another country. We may have to go to all the trouble of changing credit cards just so we can stop them stealing from us again.

I called them and after waiting on hold for about 15 minutes or more, I was able to talk to a gal named Traci. I told her I was unable to log into my account for about 2 and a half years, but my automatic renewal from my checking account was working fine.
She offered to terminate my automatic renewal which I agreed to, and I then asked her to send me an email confirming what she was doing which she did. However, the guestbook feature had blurred images of who signed it and it appeared that a goofy ex I had dumped a while back had signed it but I could not be sure.
Since I did not want to be associated with her in any way, when Classmates sent me a cheap offer to sign up for gold for a year, I took it for the sole reason that I wanted to see for sure if it was her and then be able to delete her annoying stalk posts. Apparently, I could not do this as a free member. I asked classmates to remove my profile from public search engines and not use my name. I just used my first initial everywhere except with the payment to make sure. They did for a while, but recently I found that they went and read from my payment history, as I did not have the credit card on file for repeat billing, what my first name was and reposted my availability in search engines via full name.
I've seen where narrow-minded people insult members of Classmates for allegedly falling victim to scams while pursuing foolish goals. While I was attempting to send these messages, I, without my knowledge and consent was set up with a membership to "privacymatters123" and I started to get a monthly credit card charge of $16.95 from them. I had no clue about privacymatters123 and what they were. Having filed a complaint against privacymatters123 with my credit card company, I have since received a credit pending notice, requested an new credit card and removed my credit card info from classmates.com. It took me about 45 minutes checking classmates.com to find my account info and delete it.
My credit card company had been hacked several times and new credit card numbers were issued to me. However the credit card folks accepted the charges from classmates.com and gave them my new numbers so as to not cause an interruption in my subscriptions to organizations like classmates.com. I was livid when I found this out and wrote to them demanding that they never do this again ever!! Meanwhile, my credit ratings have gone down as the reports are termed "lost or stolen credit card" to the credit bureaus. This has happened three times in the last year and a half, twice as result of the credit card company and once at my request, each of these causing a 10-15 point drop in my ratings. On June 2, 2010 (this month) Classmates.com charged my Discover Card with an unauthorized renewal fee in the amount $39.00. In speaking with their representative, I was informed that I had accepted an automatic annual renewal option that was non-refundable. I did not, nor do I ever agree to automatic renewals of any type. I am really ticked off right now! My Classmates membership was to end on June 19 and I did not want to renew. So about 5 months ago I went in to my Classmates account and changed the automatic renewal to manual renewal as I did not want my bank card charged again. Occasionally, I even checked my account to make sure it was still listed as manual, and it was. Well, guess what? I saw that Classmates charged my bank card $39.00!
I went into my Classmates account and saw that my manual renewal was changed to automatic renewal! I've sent emails to them, but they just tell me it can't be refunded and that my renewal won't be cancelled until 2011. They will not respond to my complaint about them changing my renewal to automatic and charging my card. So now I'm out $39 for another year of their stupid website and I will need to have my bank card changed so they can not do this again. People beware! What they are doing is out and out fraud! Now they have "animated" it so I am suggestively blowing kisses. It was on my brother’s bosses Google welcome page. As soon as my brother told me I went to their site and there I am on their home page. I Google searched lawsuits against them and pulled up an article regarding a class action lawsuit against them regarding membership fees and in the article there I am again. I contacted several attorneys to find out what I can do to get the animated picture and my photograph off of their advertising but they all want large retainers I cannot afford. They never send an email before the following year asking you if you want to resubscribe or anything, just charge your card. I did get them to remove the $39 charge, but only after I told them I would complain about their service, which is so old and discriminatory against non members. A gold member can email a non-gold member but that non-gold member will never receive the email. And paying members only receive emails sent through Classmates, but not directly through their own email. So, what is the service they provide to paying members? Nothing. However, on sign up, the contract, if you can ever find it, is in very fine print, and buried somewhere in context, stipulates that if the member does not notify Classmates prior to the expiration date, that they, Classmates, will automatically renew your membership for the higher annual rate. Now, the problem is, how do you cancel before expiration? If you try, you find yourself in a "maze."
They make it very difficult for the member to cancel which is to their advantage and to the financial disadvantage of the individual involved. Shame on them! The fact is we are living in difficult financial times and people can't afford to be scammed. They should have to pay for ruining my day and anyone else’s. So I am checking my account today when I discover that Classmates.com has taken it upon themselves to charge my account $39. I did not consent to this and do not have a phone number to contact them. I was on their website yesterday after receiving an email, I did not request renewal or anything. Today is Sunday so I could only dispute the charge online with my bank. I do not have a phone number for classmates.com. Hopefully, the bank will.

Admittedly, I am not the best at checking my credit card charges. But I just discovered that I have been billed by classmates.com periodically over five years for a recurring "gold membership" that I cannot imagine having authorized, as I would have had no intention of using the service and have not. I cannot say if I was tricked by fine print or never signed up at all, but the only "satisfaction" I was offered was that my last charge of $24 could be reduced to the "special" fee to save me fourteen dollars and that I would no longer be billed. Clearly, that is not satisfactory and I intend on filing any complaint or joining any action that is available.

I signed up, paid, and was unable to connect to the site. It was an internet explorer problem with the website. Classmates said it was a problem with my browser. Microsoft tech checked my whole system. It was okay. I upgraded the browser and am still having same the problem. It is caused by **, some scam advertising site. If they don't address this promptly, it's going to the F.T.C., my attorney or both. If we, the people, take action, we can stop this and maybe stop the next scam. Classmates and their parent co. better step up or they better step down. Wikipedia gives details about this organization. I've contacted my local media. You should do the same.

For some reason, Classmates billed my card for $39.00 and claimed that this is automatic when I signed up. I do not agree. I alerted my credit card company and they are blocking Classmates from access to my card and are looking closely at my case and others to do so permanently. I am on a fixed income and had no interest or plans to renew. For what? I graduated in 1965. I have been on this site less than 2 times this year. It is a rip off and action must be taken to keep this from happening to others.

I signed up for classmates 2 years ago for a 2-year period. After 2 years, they charged my credit card again for the amount of $59 without my permission. They said they automatically charge this amount every 2 years. I never read anything that came remotely close to that in the contract. When I disputed this amount on my credit card, they canceled my account. They won't refund me the money yet they still canceled my account with them. If they won't refund the money, shouldn't they at least give me another 2 years worth of service? Isn't this called fraud or stealing? If I were to take someone's money, shouldn't I provide them a service? Or give them their money back if I am not providing them with the service they paid for. And as I read on another site, I am not the only one who classmates has done this to. It seems they have done it to numerous people and are probably finding more victims as I type this. It is time to shut this site down or fine them and make them pay back the people they have ripped off.

I signed up for a gold membership back in February. I had since canceled that membership, using the procedure posted on their website. I received no confirmation of my cancellation, but figured it had been taken care of. This month I got billed for another three months ($15) so I emailed classmates.com to complain. I then called my credit card company to get the charge taken off, but classmates.com will not take it off.
I was told by the person at classmates that I would receive an email confirming my cancellation which was made in the presence of the credit card technician. I have not received that confirmation. I believe that this company is a scam. $15 lost, plus an extra $1.50 on my credit card as a "minimum interest charge".

I joined to get in touch with some people, not on FB (for the class reunion). They default you to an automatically recurring payment. No notification is sent that you are about to be renewed. They hope your memory is bad after a year and take full advantage. By the time you realize you're automatically being renewed (seeing the charge on your credit card), they will not remove the payment. If you want to cancel your membership, you have to wait for next year. But make sure you click off "recurring"; otherwise, you'll continue the cycle. Even if you insist you want your ID deleted (which I did), they will not give back the payment. This is what desperation looks like. Class action suit anyone? Sign me up! I paid $39.99 for a service I did not want and am now certain to not use because I cancelled my membership and had my ID expunged.

On May 1st, I joined Classmates.com to get communications about my 30-year reunion. This service only let messages come through so I had a means to email the reunion coordinator. I saw a pending debit to my bankcard on May 3rd, and contacted Classmates using the number on my banking page. The recording said it was after hours and to use the email system.
I wrote them about the problem and received a canned response back that said their payment page clearly showed it was an automatic renewal and when I hit the button to submit payment, I agreed to their terms. I don't recall seeing anything about automatic renewal. Their response also said that I can now enjoy another year's subscription and gave me the instructions to cancel the renewal process for 2011.
I made a claim with my bank, Chase, not to pay the debit. Their claims dept called today processing my request, but said that I need to talk to someone to make sure I get a cancellation number. Claims also warned me to watch my account for the next six weeks to see if they try to debit another year's subscription. I tried to sign in today to get their number again and my ID is wiped out. I'm hoping that they deleted my profile as their acceptance of my terms. I was very disappointed with the service it provided once I was a member.

Went to go on classmates.com, I am a gold member and paid $59.95, now I can’t get on. Some security pop up tells me my user name and password are wrong; I’ve had the same ones always. I am very upset and will contact my lawyer and cancel classmates.com. No one knows how to help. Whoever this owl help is took it upon them to mess with my password.

I have attempted to cancel my classmates.com account, but for whatever reason, they will not allow me to do so. They charged my credit card $39.00 which I cannot afford these days, and I am not using my credit cards for any purchases. They charged my card without making any attempt to notify me that my membership was coming up for renewal. If they would have done that, I would have canceled right then and there. I don't understand why they would automatically charge my card without notifying me first, this is completely unfair. They tell me that I am on some type of "Auto renewal" give me a break, if I don't wish to re-new any account, then I should be able to do so without getting charged. Something needs to be done here.

Classmates.com said with a "gold," I would receive communications from my class and finally e-mailing me that a classmate had written. When I accessed the "communication", it was my letter to her! This is the comic part. The un-comic part is their placing an unauthorized renewal on my credit card for $39 and leading me around in the old con "circle" game each time I try to terminate. I am from the south and grew up trusting folks. I have been in business for 50 years and know that without fair play, a business will fold very quickly. How can these individuals lawfully be allowed to scam the public and keep doing it? Ambiguous laws? Barrels of money to buy clearance? I am old, have lost my beloved (resident) daughter ('07) and my cherished husband ('09). I joined classmates just for fun before these tragedies happened in my own life. The economic is that I started with $15. I believe it was a three-month trial and fell into a trap.

This is my second attempt this evening. When I was asked to to retype a disguised two words, the computer erased everything I wrote. Classmates.com is saying I wanted automatic renewal and I did not request this. Without informing me, they charged my credit card $39. When I began with $15 trial, I saw they had my classmates names listed but none of them belonged to Classmates.com. I have tried to cancel but am led in circles with no way of telephoning, sending a registered letter or e-mailing them, which I did with zero cancellation. It puzzles me that these individuals are lawfully allowed to be in business. How I hope you will not make me decode one of those swirly lettered words. Why does any organization do that? Many letters of valuable information are missed this way. It is very painful to be diligent and yet scammed. Economic damage is for the period, I have paid Classmates.com with no benefit, just more ads and then the inability to cancel after repeated attempts.

A year ago, I took out a gold membership with classmates.com. My checking account was just debited for $39.95 for renewal. I did not want to renew and I was not notified ahead of time that my account was going to be debited. I asked for a cancellation and refund of the $39.95 fee and was told that I cannot get a refund because it's against company policy and that they have no way to do a refund. After insisting that they do a refund, to appease me she said that they could remove the $39.95 fee from my account and charge me a reduced fee of $19.95. If they could remove the $39.95 then they could have left the account that way. I was totally blindsided by the debit, then lied to about the inability to remove it.

They charged my credit card a renewal fee of $39 without notifying me, then refused to refund the fee. They purposely set everyone on auto renewal because they will not notify you and then claim the membership is not refundable. What a scam! They know that no one will pay attention to changing the setting and forget when their membership end so that they can then charge without reminding members who would then chose not to renew! This is a real scam!

They just took $39 from my credit card account and said that I had checked "auto-renew" when I joined with the $20 membership a year ago. They didn't warn me in advance. Classmates won't refund my money and told me I have one more year of membership now and I don't want it. They have refused to refund my money after complaining to them that they have data leaking into the search engines even though we must login to their site. Classmates has told me they are a public site and the search engines can cache data, etc. The credit card company also won't refund my money saying that I was on auto-renew even though I don't use Classmates and I don't want to continue with them or pay.
