Attempted to use this card at a point of sale for less than the balance on the card and it was declined. Tried to use this card online for less than the balance on the card and it was declined. Contacted customer service. They just gave me a runaround of excuses and eventually told me there was nothing they could do. They even tried to blame it on the other vendors. Complete scam.

I was given a Vanilla gift card on 9/5/24. I opened the package on 9/11/24 to check and confirm the balance. Instead of a $25 balance, I had a $2.44 balance. The card was used for an online purchase. I filed a dispute with vanilla and told them no one could have used my card since I was the one who removed it from the package. They told me that it would take 90 days to resolve the problem. This is ridiculous. It does not take 90 days to check one unauthorized purchase. I will never use a vanilla card again and I have spread the word about their ridiculous policy

NEVER BUY THESE CARDS. CUSTOMER SERVICE NIGHTMARE IF THERE IS AN ISSUE. Horrible company. I called in Jan. 2024 about 2 cards that didn't work. Was told it would be escalated. Sent drivers license and pictures of cards as they requested. Fast forward, called at the end of January and was told it would be escalated. Nothing. Called back in September to see whatever happened. Was told escalated again. Oct. 1, received an email that they needed receipts and couldn't do anything. Basically they said I was out of luck.

BIG WASTE. Got it a couple months ago for $150 and shows online it has a balance of $0.00. I called them so many times and they keep asking me to send them the receipt and copy of the card and every call I hear different answer. They are scammers.

Just don't purchase. Can't use them anywhere anymore! I used to be able to use them on eBay, online bill pay, gas stations, and more. NOT anymore. Not even worth the purchase anymore. What's the point?

Decline EVERYWHERE. Big wastes. Just got yesterday as a gift and shows online it has a balance of $50 still and is active but has gotten declined every single place I have tried for even small amounts. The phone number for help is an automated system that doesn't help at all. Suggests if your card is declined to try another place which I have several.

Honestly, when I bought my Vanilla gift card I thought it will work and every website I order from it didn’t, if you wanna order from a website using a vanilla gift card don’t use it on Amazon. I don’t know what other website you can use it on, but not Amazon. It didn’t for me and I called them to give me a refund and they said they'll give a check. I haven’t seen my check so, yeah but so far I'm doing whatever I can to get my check. I’m gonna get my money back that's what I know. They just be taking too long, too much information for an address.

My Dad Sent me A 200 dollar Vanilla Gift card from Texas to California.. I used it once online to buy a 30 dollar car screen off A TikTok website,, worked fine,, I received my car screen,, then a few days later I went to Walmart to buy A Battery for my Truck for 136.00. It was declined.. Asked me to type in a pin number?? I called customer service while still at Walmart and set up a pin number..and it still didn't work,, My card was declined for suspicious activity.. I called customer service and spoke to Habib..who could barley speak English and was told they will send me a replacement card..

I purchased a gift card online. Visa took the money from my account but never sent me a confirmation email saying the gift card was purchased. I however receive a text message from my bank saying they took the money out. When I call customer service the guy on the other end was rude and was acting like I was making the story up. He told me if the statement I am making are true then my money will be returned in 7 to 10 day... So basically they take your money, don't give you any kind of feedback on why they took it or why it happens and then tell you your money is tied up for 7 to 10 day. I told them I have the bank statement that show Vanilla took the money. He didn't want to hear it and hung up on me. Do not I repeat do not buy these gift cards online. Visa as crooked as they come.

I bought this card for my son bday, he didn't use it at all for almost one year, when he tried didn't work. This is the biggest scam ever- stay away- don't buy- they will block your card and ask for receipts even if you bought year ago and if you don't have it they won't be able to help you- this is joke- you can't even understand person on other end- I wish I could give negative star but I can't- don't waste your money and time.

I have purchased Vanilla gift cards with a total value of $550. Both cards were tampered with. The cards were inside the package unopened. Once opened the last 4 digits on one card was scratched out and on the other the first 4 digits were scratched out. As a customer, there is no way I could have done this. But when I called to make a claim these people give you the runaround like it's your fault. I know there are scammers out here, but if I haven't even opened the package, then I think you better start looking in-house because this is definitely happening before the product is even shipped. Vanilla gift you guys need to do better and do right by your customers. I tell everyone now to not purchase them, because if you have an issue, you will likely just be out of your money.

Wish there was a 0, or "minus -" number rating. I would ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NOT recommend buying Vanilla Gift Cards!! Two family members received gift cards Dec 2023, $150 total. Went to use, and the 2 cards had .05 & .04 balance. After reviewing activations & discovering unauth'd purchases that took place, after 4 mos of mult calls, emails & faxes to obtain & complete dispute reports, we finally receive an email declining refund or reassurance of gift cards. So my dear brother is out the $150, & I'm out the many many hours of my time wasted on this total SCAM of product!! Grrrrr!!!! NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!

I received a Vanilla gift card from my 92 y/o mother-in-law. It was activated accordingly and I still cannot use it. Customer service was routed to another country and I had a difficult time understanding what the gent was saying except for "what's your name and address" "do you have any other cards in your name". I am livid because I have $100 that I can't use!

I purchased $250 worth of Vanilla gift cards. The gift cards were e digital gift cards from Walmart. After I purchased them I added them to my Google wallet as well as my Walmart.com. I didn't realize that the address was incorrect so it denied it a couple times. The transactions also show that on the website. Before I went to get groceries the card was active. But as soon as I used it I was denied at the register which I felt like was pretty strange since I just got them and they were active last time I checked. I look on the website and it says that there's a hold on my card and to call customer care to resolve it. Customer care was very rude and they seem like they didn't know what they were talking about and they could not help me at all.

Absolutely awful. This card doesn't work with most online orders and very few in person purchases. One hundred dollars on a gift card and I can use it and maybe five places total. Do not buy these, they really aren't worth it. Total scam. If I could give these cards a zero start review, I would.

I wish I could give 0 stars. My card shows a zero balance and it should not be. It is impossible to reach anyone. Never again will Visa Gift Cards receive a dime from me. That was grocery money for my grandchildren but why would you give a damn. Sincerely, Pissed Off

HORRIBLE... Don't buy. I have a $50 gift card that won't work and their customer service is worthless!!!! I've had a case with them since March and no resolution. My son received this as a graduation gift and it's worth $0.

People need to stay away, felt like scammed. Had 2, one they decided to freeze saying was compromised, like what used they you decided compromised, still haven’t seen replacement card. 2nd card they decided the same thing. DO NOT BUY THESE!! Haven’t made good on anything!!!!

I found this gift card in an old birthday card. Called to activate it and on the first call I received an advisor who informed me that there would be a 1.50 transaction fee. I questioned it. Immediate disconnect. Pretty sure at this point I know it's a scam. Called again and this advisor tried to sell me with a hundred dollarr gift. I said no thanks and guess what happened. How Walgreens and Walmart can can sell this fraud is beyond me. Anyway, buyer beware, if ya can.

The main reason why a person buys this is to buy things online. This card will block everything literally but if I gave this card to a scammer they can drain the entire card…. On top of that the website never works to check balance etc. Avoid any of these cards. You may even see different names. They are the same Vanilla card network.

Updated on 01/31/2025: My card had fraud on it. I sent Vanilla card the documentation they requested. You can't even speak to a person anymore, only e-mail. They have never gotten back to me since they received my documents. I e-mailed them again over a month ago and have gotten no response. Worst gift card ever. They deserve to go out of business.

Company does nothing to protect the end recipient of these cards. A card was purchased for my son as a birthday gift. When he went to use it had $0. The investigation showed that a short time after the purchase it was used at an adjacent gas station from the place it was purchased. Two consecutive swipes for $10 within minutes. Vanilla disputes declined the dispute and provided no detail on their investigation. Don't buy these.

I wish I could give negative stars! These cards are hacked immediately after activation and THE COMPANY IS AWARE! Yet they are still in the shelf then it takes 45-90 days to get your money back! And that's IF their system isn't conveniently down when you finally get ahold of them.

On Visa Vanilla "You can redeem it in anywhere Visa is accepted" - IS A LIE. I've been trying to spend down a card I've had for over a year now. It was usable, then at $37.00 left - It is being declined everywhere. I can no longer check the balance (also for over a year) on the website. I finally broke down and called. I got excuses and repetitive generic answers from the lady on the other end. Visa vanilla is the one actively doing the declining - but is telling us that it is on the retailers end. So far it's no go for: Walmart, eBay, Amazon and multiple other smaller retailers. Buy something else, they are not the only pre-paid cash card on the market.

First of all the patience and calmness of the service rep, Tony, was amazing. Good on you Tony. A Vanilla Visa prepaid card was taken to the till at a local gas station from their rack of cards. It was paid for and I took it off the counter, unopened. I put it in my pocket and went to work. Four hours later, I take it out of my pocket and open it to enter the info into my Google account. Maybe I should be sure that the funds are released or the card has actually been activated, "So I go online to check the balance. Apparently Vanilla gift dot com was unable to give me my balance, wrong website. So I go onto Vanilla Prepaid, check balance. $2.55. I just pulled the card out of the package. I never stopped at a store since the gas station. I hadn't been online shopping. How had I spent 70 something dollars??"

Scam. Be aware of this company. The card packaging was sealed and intact, and I had to rip it open, so it's not a case of theft draining, it's inside job. I can't believe they're getting away with this in America.

Please do not waste your money on buying this card. I have a 350 card I purchased from them and cannot use it at all. Contact them. They will not offer to replace it every time I make an order. It has been canceled and cancel every time I make another order. Cancel. Cancel. Save your money. Is a waste of time, just cause you more headaches and more headaches. Poor customer service skills like they do not want to answer the phone. Require you to email them but won’t answer your email at all. Please do not waste your money buy this card.

I received a Vanilla Mastercard gift card from my employer for a few hundred dollars as a bonus. I am certain it is a valid card (I even have the gift receipt, and it was brand new in the unopened package). When I tried to use it online, I got an error message. I then tried to use it at a brick-and-mortar store but it was declined. I called the Vanilla Gift customer service number, and they said that the card does indeed have the money on it, but that it had a block put on it (they did not tell me why) and I needed to send a bunch of personal information and documents to an email address so they would be able to unblock the card or send me a new one. I did everything they asked, including sending a copy of the gift receipt.

A VISA card is supposed to have 16 Digits. Why would a company print phone cards with less digits? A fraudulent company would do that to make a profit. I contacted the issuer bank, Vanilla [even the name looks suspicious] and nobody took responsibility. Not even by contacting VISA. So next time you buy a gift card, do a little research. I didn't. I paid the price. I lost 50 dollars with the Vanilla Card fraud.

Whatever you do never buy this card. The card had $500 on it. Never been used. Activated the card. Tried to use it. It was flagged as suspicious behavior. How does a brand new card. Get marked as suspicious behavior. Call customer service. They said the card was active and usable. Didn’t work for separate times, best they could do for me is send me a new card with no guarantee that this card would work either. Why would you do any business with these people?

I received a Vanilla Visa gift card as an award from my employer. It is a virtual card only. I activated it online & it showed a $500 balance. I tried using it at several on-line retailers (both as a debit and credit card) and all rejected it immediately. Amazon submitted a request (which I can see online) and Vanilla Visa rejected it, with displaying internal code only. Online support was useless, and tried calling and was put in phone tree circle, with no human to talk to and it just said goodbye and hung up on me. I have no idea how to redeem this, and clearly retailers know not to trust this card. They had no problem taking payment from my employer, but refuse to let me use it. What a scam!!! Don’t buy this card!!

If I could I'd give ZERO. They don't work and lately I can't even get a customer rep and the last one I tried I couldn't understand hardly at all. Plus a few times I had managed to successfully get it unlocked but this time suddenly I had to wait 24 hours until that retailer could be used again in an emergency when that had NEVER been the case the last two times. I'm furious. I thought VISA Gift Cards would be better because theoretically they can be used anywhere but now they're more or less USELESS when nobody will even accept them AND they can't be used at ATMs so you can get ACTUAL MONEY. And of course this is all to protect the big biz at the cost of the customer. Big biz before people after all. Real great "protections" there.

Went to use second time. Was on hold. Had to call. They ask me what site and I tried to make a buy from which didn't work so I moved on to a site I knew would work. Like how would I remember what random site I was on and purchased price it was that declined, This card sucks and will never purchased again.

This card doesn't work anywhere. Online portal says I have funds. There is no live customer service via phone or email, no way to resolve. My parents gifted me a $200 useless piece of plastic that serves only to make me look scammy at retail establishments every time it is declined. It also has an expiration date, which is illegal in CA. But whatever, we all know banks are above the law.

9/11/2024 4:36PM ((WEDNESDAY, September 11, 2024)). In the beginning, I remembered when I first got a Vanilla Prepaid Gift Card for Christmas!!! Boy, was I excited! There was $150 put on that gift card! I was able to use that gift card in-person at any store and even online at any franchise of my choice. But, now, when you go to any retailers that sell Vanilla Gift Cards they are locked up in safes, on the card booth, the serial number is marked with a big bold X across the back, or if you are not looking closely at your gift card, you would not be able to tell if it has been tampered with or not, in this case, it has been definitely tampered with.

Never buy anyone a Vanilla Gift card. These cards used to work online easily but this has changed. I was reading that since changes made in 2024 to protect companies against fraud, most retailers will decline this card. Amazon doesn't accept it anymore, nor does Walmart, Trader Joe's, and many other businesses. I have personally tried using it on Amazon, Walmart online, Trader Joe's in person, Ebay, Poshmark, and even Geico to pay a specific amount of a bill. It declined on every platform and requested I use a different payment method.

They basically stole $400 from me, I purchased and load this card to give to our friend, when she try to use, card was declined and was told only $0.35 on it. I open the case, submitted all documents they requested, month later I was told nothing they can do and case closed. So today I opened small claims to sue this **** company. TBBK Card Services, Inc., Pathward, N.A. Or Sutton stealing people's money, period!!!

These are a nightmare to use. It's like pulling teeth trying to get a transaction to be approved. I've only tried Amazon. I've tried over and over for days. When I called their customer service they couldn't give me a reason why it was declining, just told me to clear my cookies and delete and re add the card. I did that multiple times. Feels like I'm being scammed.

I purchased a Vanilla Visa gift card for $120 and it's declined everywhere at ShopRite, Amazon all big even wawa. I try calling support. You can't get live person, and website always saying try again later!! They should be sued!! I am filing on Better Business Bureau too!!

I have gotten my 14 year old niece a $50 gift card for her birthday. She use it once at 99cent store for $5 bucks. Her remaining balance is $45 dollars so she decided to use it again and it was declined. I checked it and it look like some weird company stole the money. I put a claim for them say there's nothing they could do. The network regulations will not support the claim for the funds. I will never purchase their gift cards ever again. They are a fraud company that steals from customers.

Thank goodness I did not purchase this horrible card to pay bills. Card was declined for every transaction tried. Contacted customer service. NO LUCK there at all. Told it will be at least 3 weeks to receive my refund (I will keep you updated). Sold at Walgreens, CVS, Winn-Dixie and more. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GIFTCARD EVER!!

They want to keep your money that is on the card. I was given as a gift. I do not have a receipt for the card. They will not take it off hold unless I have a receipt for the card. This card was given to me in June for a special purchase in September. I activated the card with a pin in July. I tried to use it to buy a book in September and it is on hold. They will not release until I can get original receipt which my mom doesn't have. So they get to keep the money. What a racket. They can not say why on hold. Never use them for gift cards or anything else.

This company is a scam!! Over the last year I have purchased three cards totaling $350. Each time I go to use them immediately they are declined. I call them and always get someone who can barely speak English. Very frustrating. They always tell me that the card needs to be replaced and it will take up to two weeks. Plus, they want all of your information including your drivers license. The replacement cards never come! I purchased them at my local Safeway and they couldn’t care less about what is going on. It’s the same as just plain stealing. They are scammers and thieves. NEVER USE THEM!!!

My daughter received a $30 gift card for her birthday, but when we went to use it we noticed that there was no CVV number so unfortunately we could not use the funds on the card. When I called their customer service number the agents basically gave me the runaround and had me call more than 6 times over a 2 month period and they told me that they needed the original purchase receipt and couldn't do anything without it. Now it's impossible for me to get this receipt as this card was a gift and Vanilla card services couldn't do anything to help me. Am trying to spread the word so nobody purchases these gift cards as they are a scam.

If you don't want to get all your money stolen, never buy a card from this company. I was unlucky when I received a gift card from my boss, but before I could use it, all the money in the card was mysteriously taken. I contacted them to report and resolve the issue but it's been 2 months and they still haven't given me a satisfactory answer. They won't help you, they will just waste your time and never get your money back.

Good Evening, as far as I’m concerned I didn’t know that I needed a pre-authorization to purchase a ticket with my money that I put on a card. I believed you guys were reliable. Unbelievable now I have to wait 7 days and oooppps there goes my ticket, all because they needed a pre-authorization that the airlines were supposed to send. And then the airlines thinks it’s a scam. Wrong that was not right. I was supposed to purchase my ticket and that it. Instead, I was the one who’s losing out because now I have to wait and if it gets back. You guys have me crying, oh yes and the airline said it was declined 3 times and yet only 15 in it!!! Thank you very much, that’s not right!!!!!! All I wanted was to be able to pay for something I purchased with my OWN MONEY.

I have an old Vanilla gift card and tried to find out what the balance is by calling the number on the back of the card and by checking their website (by phone it is impossible to get a human) but because two of the code digits disappeared I was not able to get the information. I will never buy Vanilla cards anymore because IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY. You pay for the card, it is almost impossible to use the card for its exact face value and whatever the balance is left you can say goodbye to it.

Worst gift card ever!! DO NOT BUY!!! I made a huge mistake and bought one of these cards. I got $500 dollar egift card, gets declined all the time. I had to call them 2 times to get hold off and declines every other transaction. I got to use about $60 of my own money when the 3rd time I had a hold and called the rep, asked me to confirm my recent transactions. When I told them to her she told me they were not right, my statement said on the 21st I had used my card at 1159pm and her screen said I used the card on the 22nd, even though she could see I made the transaction on the 21st because her screen said the 22nd she had to report a "case" that takes 20-30 days to complete and when it's over they will either mail me a check or another egift card. What a joke!!! DO NOT GET THIS CARD. YOU WILL GET SCREWED ESPECIALLY IF IT'S AN EGIFT CARD!!!

If I could leave a negative or a minus 5 review I would.. On July 19th I purchased a Vanilla Gift card because of the Nationwide outage.. Right away I noticed that funds were not available.. I could not reach anyone from customer service on the 19th because of the outage. So on July 20th I called Vanilla customer service line to report the issue and rectify the matter.. I gave them the information that was asked for and was told 3 to 5 business days 30 days max.. Which who would entrust their money with someone and then have to wait 30 days to utilize it? Well as of today it has been 37 days.

This is the worst experience ever. I got a birthday gift card in July for my bday and when I was going to use it stated an error. I created a claim with them, sent everything they asked for in regards to get this solved and a month later they are still asking me for the same info I had sent and it STILL HASN'T BEEN RESOLVED. In all honesty is ridiculous to be asking for so much even though I provided it already and is still not solved. Never again buying Visa cards. Is so sad they do this when one was just trying to enjoy their bday present.

If I could give this card a 0 I would. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT PURCHASE THESE CARDS. I was scammed of $175. Purchased the card at Food Lion for my daughter's bday and two days later when my daughter tried to use it it kept declining. We went to see the balance history and noticed that there was an unauthorized charge for $175. Reported it to Vanilla gift and they denied it with no proof to back their claim. Terrible service. You won't be able to speak to the dispute department, only via email which will take you nowhere. Will never buy gift cards again. I prefer to give cash. Wish I saw these review before buying.

Hi I Purchased A Prepaid Vanilla Gift Card, on August 1, 2024. I always purchased they cards I happened to go online to check my balance. I couldn't check ✅ my balance. I went to use the card. They locked it. I contacted the the CUSTOMER SERVICE. Most of them can't speak English properly, I had to call numerous of times. I finally understood someone. I had to email my card, my license & address. I was advised it would take 3 to 5 business days. It's been 28 days. I was advised it was processing. Then I was told to resend all my information. I email & called for my update. Nothing But lies, I really believe it a inside job. Someone in the company stealing customers information. Don't buy Vanilla gift card. You better.

Do NOT buy a gift card from Vanilla Gift. My card was not properly activated and I have waiting longer than the 30 days as requested initially. When I called I was told that I have to wait another 30 days from the date they received the documents that was sent to them approx 2 weeks prior. When I asked to get clarification on why from Bradford, he kept repeating his script. I expressed to him that this is not okay and he should inform his staff to be more specific on the required turnaround time. Save yourself the hassle and do not buy from them.

The Visa Vanilla gift card advertises that you may use your Card/Virtual Account to obtain goods or services wherever Visa or Mastercard is honored. It is not true. I could not use my gift card at Walmart or on Amazon. After talking with customer service, I was told that in order to use the gift card at Walmart if the balance is over the gift card balance, I have to use my own debit card or money to pay the over balance amount BEFORE the gift card can be used. Generally, you use a gift card first and pay the balance with your own cash. I have yet to try it again to see if it works in that order. I did try to purchase on Amazon, but my order was declined. The customer service rep told me that many online retailers will not accept it. My response was, "So, I may or may not be able to use this card?" Total waste of time to buy one of these as a gift for someone unless you want to deliver them a headache to deal with it.

This card is not usable except if you call and ask them if you can use your card to spend your money, and then they will tell you when you can use it, where you are allowed to use it, and on what you are allowed to use it. Then after putting a hold on the card, because you tried to use your own money for what YOU wanted, they tell you they will send you a new card. Their customer support can only read the 3 answers to the script they have in front of them, if your question is not one of the 3 scripted answers, they always answer response for question 1. This is an India scam card. DO NOT BUY this card, you are just giving Vanilla your money, and good luck being able to use the card. Would give it a negative star, but they won't let me.

After running into numerous issues with using the prepaid card for online purposes, I can see why these cards were fully stocked at the shopping center! You are not able to use these online especially for Paypal nor Target.com. This is basically an expensive Amazon card which seems to be the only one who will accept them. Customer service offered to replace the card and mail a new one to me but what's the point of getting a new card number? Same problem. Plus why would I trust them any further? I have one thing to say to the greedy scammers behind this operation - you cannot see the consumer's face, therefore, you never know who you crossed and what power and authority they hold and what swift changes they can bring about such as karmic justice!

This is the worst gift card ever. I bought a $200.00 gift card and the money was stolen from it within days. I contacted the customer support, and after waiting for 5 months and never contacting me, I called them and was notified that the case was closed and the money could not be returned. I think this is an inside job, and someone in the company who has access to the card is stealing the money. Don't ever purchase these cards, or your money will be gone. The people in customer service are clueless and don't bother to listen to you. The whole thing is a scam to steal your money.

Worst experience ever. I got a card as a gift for my son's birthday. After a week when I wanted to use, I noticed it was compromised and somebody used it. Contacted them and they opened a file. After 3 months or even more, I received an email that they cannot approve the dispute. Oh my God. This is the best you can do after 3 months investigation!!! And how somebody can have the card number and use it???? It's all fraud to me. Please don't buy from them.

Worst gift ever!!!! My mom bought me 2 Visa cards of 200$ value each. One of them did not work and it was the gift for my childbirth! I contacted customer service many times and it was the worst experience ever!!!! Till now that card does not work and lost the 200$. Worst worst worstttt company… Shame on you for stealing our money.

I purchased two $500 VanillaGift VISA cards from Safeway, specifically to use online for some needed purchases. The back of the packaging said "can only be used in the U.S." but there was no warning about online use. When I tried to use them on PayPal and Amazon.com, the Sutton Bank (which issues these cards) wouldn't allow it despite both companies being in the U.S. I checked on the VanillaGift website, the cards have full balances. This is a scam! I've used a lot of the GC over the years and was always able to use them online. A VISA card should be compatible with online vendors that accept VISA! I've found I can use them locally at stores but the need was for certain online purchases and now I'm screwed. VanillaGift, Sutton Bank and Safeway are all to blame here (yes, I spoke to someone at Safeway who shrugged off my complaint, saying "you can use them at restaurants" as if that fixed the problem).

I saved up my gift cards to splurge on a luxury item. I went to the store and the card was declined. When I called the card they said try another establishment. After I was humiliated… I then went to a restaurant tried 3 different cards all declined. I will never buy this card for anyone!

You purchase a gift card, you get out, you try to use it at a store or for any reason it doesn’t work or after you’ve used it for once and you still have a balance on there that you plan on using for something else then it doesn’t work and when you call them, they have to replace it. The other day I purchased one for $500 from CVS. It doesn’t work. They say they have to replace it within an hour Less than an hour. They send another one. You get it today. Guess what? You call, it doesn’t work. Now they have to replace it in that times. They’ll say they can’t replace it and won’t send you a new one and keep whatever money that you have on there so the company is a bunch of criminals and scams. Do not purchase their gift cards.

I Wish I could rate this company with a zero... Horrible customer service. I called within 5 min of placing an order and they couldn't update a simple address typo... Lost $$$. I will not ever use this company again!

I have tried to add a zip code to TWO different gift cards AND check the balance of them on the website for weeks now. Every single time I try to do either, it shows “an error has occurred”. Upon further research, it shows that this has actually been an ongoing issue for many months, if not longer. This will absolutely be my last purchase with Vanilla!

Vanilla gift card company is literally the worst gift card Visa I have ever bought in my life. Not only does it not work at 90% of the stores when you call customer service, they don't understand anything that you're saying. They tell you that it's you, not the card, even though when you use the card to decline you. If Vanilla really appreciates their customers they would reach out to me to resolve this situation. I recommend that you never ever buy Vanilla gift cards for family or friends. It is literally a headache.

This does not deserve a single star. I'm starting to think that Visa or whoever is over these gift cards are the ones scamming people. This is the SECOND and the LAST time I will EVER use them and I do plan to join the class action lawsuit. The bar code cut off from my 100.00 card. The card is "invalid". They never work anywhere. I set up the pin, I call customer service to verify a balance. I go to use it and DECLINED EVERY SINGLE TIME. They say you can use it on Amazon but I have yet to see that happen. I'm not dumb, I'm a very tech savvy guy. I have hundreds of dollars given to me from other people and THEY NEVER WORK. Just ridiculous. Don't ever buy or receive them. Just tell them to keep it and spend it on themself to save you from the headache.

I bought a Vanilla gift card and got scammed like the rest of you. The card declined a Amazon order and then all of a sudden the money was gone. Wait for my new card. I just so happened to google the card and there is a lawsuit against them. I am calling the lawyer and jumping on the lawsuit. Worst thing you can is get a Vanilla Card, I bought one back in May and I asked for refund due a fraudulent transaction, they said they’d send another card within 45 days and still nothing to this day!!! The absolute worst gift card to give or buy for every reason already stated by other reviewers. People you love will hate you for giving them this card as a gift. Every merchant I use, rejects this garbage card. And I now have to get a replacement from VISA because in trying to use the damn card in several places, it was then put "on hold." You won't even get a confirmation email or any tracking info for the replacement card, so I have to cross my fingers that I actually get it and that it doesn't end up at some wrong address.

Card doesn't work in most stores, I had a $25 card and can only use $20, the card automatically wiped off the remaining $5, and now I have a $50 one I received as a gift that's not going thru either, it's a scam.

Epic!! I got a 50$ Vanilla gift card recently and it was good! I can sign up to free trials and not pay them cause I have like 15 cents in there (I spent it all) Lol I have like 15 transactions from like very website every: Nintendo, Walmart, Roblox, Best Buy, Target. Vanilla visa does steal your money. Don't go with Vanilla visa. Don't waste time with vanilla visa. Then they love to argue with you. They will give wrong date and say that you have to wait another 90 days.

One of the most unhelpful and useless companies I have dealt with. Their card works in very limited locations and their solve is “try it somewhere else“. Don’t waste your money buying their gift cards, give someone cash or a Venmo instead.

Do not buy these gift cards. I was scammed out of money because I bought one and someone stole the number and used it. I received a faulty card so I called customer service to try and get it resolved. They took my information and told me it would be mailed out immediately. 3 weeks later I called because the card never came. They basically told me they cannot help me because they cannot track that the card had not arrived. Total scam.

This "gift card" is the biggest scam that exists! I purchased a $100 Gift card from Vanilla at Walgreens so my daughter could use it at a theme park with her class. The card was denied, so my daughter went without food all day. When I called to explain that the card was denied, they said it was compromised, so it was "rejected for my protection." They sent me a replacement card, and it was rejected at the grocery store the very first use. I called to complain, and they told me the same thing that "it was rejected for my protection." They told me that they would send another card. I never received the new card, so I called again today, and they told me I would have to send my ID to prove my identification to them before they could send me a replacement card. Everyone I spoke with was from India, and I could barely understand them. Clearly a fraud business.

If there was a negative star rating, I would gladly give it. Horrible experience with the purchase of a Vanilla Visa Gift Card. Got it to make an online purchase, only to find out they dictate where and how you can make purchases online. Very difficult to speak to anyone to try and resolve any issues; tried their website which was even worse. Biggest headache trying to use the card. Tried finishing up the balance by getting gas at the gas station only for it not to work, so I threw it in the garbage can with the remaining balance on it, could not deal with the headache with Vanilla visa card anymore.

The company fabricates an “activation issue” with the card for which you need proof of purchase to resolve. Most people are not going to be able to access the proof of purchase whether it be from the gift giver or company who purchased. So the issue will never be resolved, and whoever bought the card in the first place gave their cash away to some scam artist. Do not buy from this company. Give cash instead.

I bought a $200 Vanilla Visa gift card so I could buy concert tickets for me and a friend. I don’t have a credit card. They would not allow me to buy from any online website. They said there were restrictions with these cards. I kindly asked for a refund and they refused. Do not buy these. You can’t use them anywhere that I’ve tried.

These gift cards are misleading and should not be sold in stores. I purchased the Visa gift card from Vanilla Gift in order to make some online purchases. The card was loaded with $120. Every single online retailer denied the card. When I called vanilla customer service they said there was nothing they could do and I just needed to try another vendor. I asked for a refund and they said it was not refundable. I pushed harder with my case and they said it would take at least 3 weeks. If your cards do not work as they are intended then you shouldn’t be allowed to sell them. Vanilla Gift cards are basically a scam since no one seems to accept them.

I received a Vanilla Gift Card from my private school for Christmas and I have no idea why they wasted their money on this company. I'm not the only one who received a faulty card. My husband normally buys me gift cards for Christmas! I had over $600 saved up to put towards something memorable. The first time trying to use my card failed. I tried to use my $300 card several times more, each time leaving it in my wallet to try at a later date. I called customer service each time and now someone has attached their name to it in the form of a complaint.

Their card numbers were leaked and someone else used my $500. When I reported this to the company and opened a case number they never responded. I repeatedly tried to follow up but no response. So basically they may have a leak in their company like who shares the card information to others and you lose all the money.

In the past, I have sometimes received Vanilla gift cards from a friend. They are always difficult to use, rarely authorize a payment; and now, it's impossible to contact a representative at Vanilla to get it sorted out. Their website doesn't even work... It just reports an error and then says "check back later". Meanwhile, Vanilla gets to keep our money for themselves. Vanilla gift cards are a complete scam.

I was given a Vanilla Gift Card by a family member. I am SERIOUSLY UNHAPPY. It took forever to make certain the gift card was activated. I cannot check my balance online, I have to call in if I want to know the remaining balance, because everytime I attempt to use the website, it allows me all the way through the Captcha verification process only to inform me that there is a technical issue. DO NOT USE VANILLA, it's too much hassle.

I received a Vanilla gift card in July 2023 but didn't know the amount in it. Decided in April 2024 to spend it. Went to the website to check the amount and it had 200.00. Less than an hour later when I tried to use, it had .00 balance. Filed a dispute with the company and waited for 90 days for them to tell me they had researched it and I had no claim. I could see that it was spent at STRAWHAT from the website but could not find any further information on it. No one can tell me that someone at the company could not find any information on it. I think it was an inside scam and would not recommend anyone buy the card again. Shame on scammers.

Useless. It's almost impossible to get all of your funds from this card since it only lets a charge go through if you have more than the purchase amount. The online website doesn't work and the phone number they give you to call leads you to a robot. With the upped "security measures" you can't even add your balance to the most basic online account like PayPal. If you like your friends and family, just give them cash, I'm begging you. It's a waste of money all around.

Absolutely awful! They charge on either side of the purchase and use of the card, and most of the time the things are rejected from sellers. I have been trying to spend the last of a gift card for my daughter and, although it has balance, no one will take it. DO NOT USE! Zero stars, if it was an option.

It’s a scam and a waste of money. They flagged my card and put it on hold. When I called they said they had to send me a new card. He asked me my name and address and said he couldn’t take my card off hold because I couldn’t remember the last place I used it. What sense does that make? Even if I stole the card. You’re still asking me for my address to send the new card. So you’re literally just wasting my time and your company's time. I purchased a Vanilla Prepaid Visa. My receipt showed the card had been successfully activated. It was declined when I tried to use it. Upon calling Visa customer service I was told that once they have completed their investigation, which could take between 3-30 days I would be notified of the outcome. Meanwhile I am out the value of the card which I have already paid to the vendor for between 3-30 days. When I requested to receive a digital replacement card I was told the the Supervisor that as I purchased a physical card they did not have the ability to provide me with a digital replacement. Terrible service.

I was given a Visa gift card by a religious faculty for a $100.00. Card was scammed, had zero balance after so called investigation I received $65.00. What a Joke!!!! Visa should be ashamed of themselves.

After losing my debit card, in a pinch I purchased a Vanilla gift card at CVS to pay my car insurance bill. The vanilla gift card came blank with no credit card number. After speaking with a supervisor and the manager at Vanilla they want to open a case and and have me wait up to 30 days to get a new card from their error. If I don't make my payment my car insurance gets cancelled and I have to get temp insurance at a very high rate for 6 months. Kervin a managing supervisor who can't provide last name came up with no acceptable resolutions after waiting 30 minutes other than wait 5 to 30 days for case review then they would ship me a new card. However, he did apologize for the "inconvenience".

What a scam. Have tried using it online and in person, and declined both times. I’ve tried going online, and keep getting an error message. I also just called customer service, and they said to just try at another in person store. They are just stealing people’s money. I am not sure why they are allowed to continue to sell this as a gift card.

I got a gift card for Christmas in 2023 and it was $500. I went to go use it and it got declined. I went to call the card and it had been used already at a Costco in California. I live in Washington. I called them to try and dispute it and told them what was going on, gave them my card details and everything. They send documents to me via email and It’s now been 7 months and I called to see what’s going on and they tell me they are waiting for documents from me. Mind you I gave them my card number. This was a gift. I don’t have much else. They want my card number and the packaging and the original receipt. I’m like it was a gift from Christmas. I asked if the person that gave it me would look at bank statements from when they bought it would that work they said no and that I need the original receipt. So at this point I think that $500 is just gone which is unfortunate.

The card worked ok with some things, but many places wouldn't accept it. Trying to find a balance on the card kept showing as "an error has occurred, please come back later." Very frustrating to receive a gift card that does not work, especially with anything related to Google Play.

On Dec16, 2023 Our church had a holiday gathering in which multiple leaders purchased approx $3,000 worth of these gift cards and handed them out. After a few days we started getting calls that gift cards were empty. Some had to leave their groceries and gifts because they depended on this money. The cards were purchased at Target (Boston) and they all were sealed. Upon presenting complaint to VanillaGifts. They told us it will take 3months for a respond. I would need to present receipts, cards time and place of purchase. Multiple people purchased these cards. Smh we lost $3,000.00 no refund, no reimbursement. Not even a call.

Scam. I spent multiple days attempting to activate the card. Finally was able to activate and then had to speak to an actual human to use for online purchases. I tried to express my frustration in and with the confusing, time-wasting activation process. I asked the operator where I could leave feedback in regards to user experience/setting up the card (my gift card had a low money value before the activation fee - the time I wasted trying to set it up was almost not worth the frustration). She wouldn't give me an email or number to call to express my frustration. This card was a gift- not worth the hassle I had to go through to activate it.

I don’t know how these “gift cards” are still available to purchase. They are a scam. Most of the time they don’t work. Your total has to be less than the amount on your gift card. And even then, there’s no guarantee they will work. My daughter is trying to buy Robux right now on Roblox. Her gift card amount is more than the total of her purchase, and payment is still getting denied. Visa has to be pocketing millions from left over gift card money that people just gave up on. Vanilla gift card visa is total scam. I got a vanilla gift card from a friend as a gift. I’m trying to use it but it doesn’t work. I’ve called the number on the back of the card. The call goes to India and they don’t even know how the gift card works. Don’t waste your money on this scam.

These people are SCUM! I had fraudulent charges on my card. Took the FOUR MONTHS to rectify and they NEVER called or emailed me like they said they would. I had to initiate every contact. Their phone system is designed so you can almost NEVER talk to someone. I would give my right eye to meet their CEO in a dark alley and share my “thoughts!”

These are crap. Received a $100 gift card for a gift. Did not work. Called. They required proof of purchase. I submitted everything they asked for. It's been a month and a half. Target is the place that sold it to the person who bought it. Ridiculous customer service too. Does not provide help when you call to check up on it only that is "under investigation". What? Where to start? I purchased a $ 150.00 Vanilla Prepaid Card back in January 2024. After going to several merchants who declined card I called customer service. First off we checked balance and found out it still showed a $150.00 balance. I was told they would send me a new card in 2 weeks. I received a new card in 15 days and had the same outcome. It wouldn't work at several merchants. Called again to customer service and received same song and dance. Waited another few weeks and received another card to replace last card. Once again the card didn't work.

These are clearly a scam. They do not work and when I called to ask to activate and check the balance I was told I needed to provide proof of purchase (even though they were a gift). The customer service does not help.

Vanilla cards are a scam! I received a $500 card from my boss, it was declined on the first purchase. When I called to speak with a representative they wanted proof of purchase, full name, address, etc. He said they needed to open an investigation to see if the card legit. Which could take up to 30 days. This is a scam! Why do you need all this information? This was a gift that I can't use without jumping through all these hoops. I can’t use my card and who knows when/if they’ll decide this card is legit. But they got their $500 (+ $6.95) so they don’t really care!

This was a nightmare. I got a $100 gift card for my birthday and went to my favorite restaurant to use it, and it was declined. I called customer service to see what was going on, and they cancelled my card and said they would send out a new one. It took nearly 2 weeks to come. I tried to use the card on Amazon.com and was again declined. I had set the pin already, as they told me to do, on their website. I tried a couple more times, and no luck, so I called customer service again. I was hung up on by the automated system. I called back again. I went through several prompts over and over, trying to get one that would lead to a live agent. After much time and headache, I got someone on the line.

My $300 Vanilla Gift Card was "drained", which means someone drained the funds out of my card without it ever leaving my possession. I figured this out when I finally went to activate my card, and it had already allegedly been used at Home Depot (not one local to me). I submitted a claim and the documentation as evidence to Vanilla. They took 3 months to review my claim, and when I finally heard back from them, this was their message:

Bought a gift card for my son and came home to check the balance on their website and then my son decided on what he wanted to buy off of Amazon. Went to buy it. Money wasn't on there after using their website. They let somebody steal the money off of my card on some kind of Indian game and then only gave me some of the money back and it was a small portions at that after filing a claim and waiting over 3 months just to get a reply of any kind from them. And then they start saying that they can't give the rest of the money back. Whatever you do, do not buy this card. They allow people to steal your money and they not do nothing about it. And I wouldn't even give it a star but you have to give it something just to place your review.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS CARD!!!! Purchased a $100.00 gift card for a friend as a bridal gift. OMG! I was so embarrassed! When she went to use the card there was nothing on the card. Brought it back to Target where I purchased it with my receipt! Learned then that they would not take the card back! I contacted Vanilla directly and after days, months of sending all the documents that Vanilla wanted, nothing was done! Except someone tried to steal my identity via the internet with the documents I provided to this alleged "Company" called Vanilla.

In January 2024 a $300 Vanilla Visa was purchased as a gift. My son changed his mind about what he wanted so I purchased him a different gift and kept the card. In May of 2024 I went to buy another gift but when I opened the paper "envelope" that houses the card ... The bar code on the back the card was partially gone! The missing numbers from the card were on the envelope the card was packaged in.

Received Vanilla gift card for Mother's Day. I've still not been able to use it. I've called the customer support number. They wanted me to send a verification of my address through email to file a claim. I gave him my address phone number etc, I got nowhere! This is the biggest scam ever! They can get away with this at 70 yrs old. I'm baffled! Do not recommend anyone buying Vanilla Gift Card!

Do not get this card for online purchases. It does not allow a postal code to be assigned. The website is misleading. Under tips on how to use it, it states add a postal code, but the website does not allow a postal code to be added. When you call the Helpline, the agent and supervisor blame the merchant's website. Recommend: Stay away.

This is not a good experience, received a bunch of these cards from my employer as an incentive (reward). These cards are garbage can't get them to work anywhere. Has opposite effect I don't feel like I was rewarded for my hard word just jerked around and hassled. Customer service was no help helping me understand how to get these to work. If you're an employer don't do this to your employees. It's somewhat degrading and will hurt employee moral.

Short answer: DO NOT BUY ANY VISA GIFT CARD. It's a waste of your money and time. You are better off getting a different Gift card or having plain cash in your hand. From my personal experience: It claims for it to work online, but it is barely supported by any website. If you try to use the card online you would get a error message almost every single attempt. From what I heard it only works on Amazon, but don't bother trying to add it to Cash App or PayPal. It is also good to know you would constantly get yourself in a loophole of errors when you try to use it in your Apple device or their services. Customer service replaced my card several times over and it's still a pain to get it to work. I can't believe these cards are being sold to people in stores to this date.

Card would not work. Asked for refund. Took 4 months for me to get my refunds. Had to threaten to take them to court. The entire customer service team are nothing but lies. They refused to let me speak to management. Said they would have them call me back. Still waiting.

If you are reading this review I can only suggest that you DO NOT BUY A VANILLA GIFT CARD. I have had had THE WORST EXPERIENCE WITH THIS COMPANY. I strongly recommend that you buy your gift cards from another card manufacturer. The card I bought was defective and the response to my claim has been poor. I tried to use the card to pay for services at a hair salon and numbers were missing on the card; essentially they sold me defective merchandise. They would not replace the card when I called, they investigated the claim even though they knew the card was never used, a replacement was mailed to me on June 7, and I am still waiting for the card after 10 business days. Why would anyone ever take the chance and buy a vanilla card? It could very well be defective like mine and worthless? Imagine giving a defective card as a gift and think about how much time and effort it takes to get a replacement….which I still don’t have.

I would rate less than 1 star if possible. Given $325 in these e-gift cards and they aren’t accepted with any regularly by Amazon merchants, local businesses when I try to order online. Web site for balance check doesn’t work. When I talked to customer service, they said I needed to use the e-gift card in the store so the merchant can enter in the card number and other info manually. Of course the merchant point of sale terminals aren’t set up to be used that way. I can’t believe this card is allowed to still be sold to customers. I have been trying for weeks to use these cards so I can be rid of them but unable to find any place to accept them as payment online or otherwise.

If I could Rate this card as a −0 I would. I purchase this card and 5 minutes later? Somebody scammed money off of it. I reported it immediately. I have gotten several different stories. As to how long it will take for them to return another card. They have told me 3 to 5 business days, 5 to 7 business days, 60 to 90 days. I keep calling them. They have not yet returned the card today. They said that they would return it via FedEx in 3 to 5 days and then put me on hold and came back and said it would be 7 to 10 days. Yes, US postal service. I then told them that that was not acceptable and that I would be expecting the card by FedEx within 3 to 5 business days. Then they told me it would take 2 days for them to acknowledge and get me a new account number and that I should receive my card by the end of the week.

The gift card kept on getting declined for no apparent reason. This is very embarrassing in person at a retail establishment! The company told me it was on hold ("for safety and security" reasons) and sent me a replacement. That one worked once and then broke again leaving $100 stranded. After being hung up on twice by their customer "service" team they agreed to send me ANOTHER replacement. I honestly don't trust that the replacement card will work. This is ridiculous and such an unfortunate thing for the generous gift giver and for me. Honestly, it feels like a scam where they are hoping you won't bother to get it replaced. I will never use these cards again.

Vanilla Gift Card is a SCAM! I was given a $200 card for a gift in March. I still can't use it. They sent 2 additional cards that didn't work, now I'm supposedly waiting for a refund check to be mailed. I still haven't received it. Bought card as a wedding present April 2023. It is now June 2024. The card didn’t have all 16 numbers been giving the run around OVER A YEAR and they still won’t replace the card. They even asked for my utility bill as a form of verification that I live at the address my license has. I refused to give them my utility bill. They are now saying they can’t send a replacement card.

Absolute scam. I got a 500$ gift card for a trip and only used it twice. Then I was locked out and they would not answer my phone calls, instead hanging up on me. I would not recommend this to ANYONE.

Do not buy this card. It's a total scam!!! I received a $50 card as a gift. The money wasn't loaded on it. When you call customer service they hang up on you! This is a big scam! Buyer beware! Now I have to dispute this with my bank! If I could give a 0 rating I would.

DON'T BUY THIS CARD! I bought a Vanilla Gift card for my son a year ago, BUT NO RETAILERS WILL ACCEPT IT. I called 2-months ago and was told I would receive a refund in 30-days. I never received it and when I called again, I was assured that I would receive an email regarding my refund within 24-48 hours. Again, I never received it. I called the following week and was again told I'd get a response in 24-48 hours, which I never received. I called today and was told my case is being reviewed and I will get a response on the STATUS of my refund in 10-business days. Is anyone reading this interested in joining my class-action lawsuit?

I don't like that this card holds 20%. Or allow merchants to hold 20% for a possible tip or whatever. Because the total is the total. And that would include any tip that was left. So why the extra hold on funds that are needed to be used or wanting to. So why the extra hold on funds that are needed to be used or wanting. So why the extra hold on my funds. Then have to wait till y'all post or they post a transaction to get the hold back. They don't even do that on my debit card. It's stupid. I will never purchase this card again.

My friend got me a $100 Vanilla gift card and I was never able to use it. I activated it and tried it several places and it never worked. I then called the number on the card and they said they would send me a new one. This was weeks ago. I would never recommend this company.

I can’t believe these Cards are the worst ever, first when the purchases happened by mistake they don’t refund it. Second it stuck on your device. I can’t remove it. I can’t use another new gift card. This experience is really bad.

Company will give an excuse as to why not honoring a transaction.... If you like throwing money away and getting transactions turned down this is the card. If you have a question and call customer service that will even get more frustrating. A gift became a nightmare.

I have sufficient balance to charge something but still doesn't go through. I called them and it's almost impossible to talk to live agent. They didn't help and made me feel I am the one who doesn't know how to use it. Terrible gift card, stay away from this!

I have never had a bad experience in my life with a gift cards and customer service. The worst possible gift card and DO NOT BUY ANYONE AS A GIFT!!!! Customer service does not know the information and how to do their job. There is no option for 0 stars to give!!!

I got my card in March, which never worked. I’m still waiting to find out if I’m even getting a replacement. The customer service reps were understanding, etc., but come on! I’ll never get another one. All I have right now is an expensive piece of plastic.

Scam company. You can only use these cards at some places, if you have a remaining balance and if you can't use it they refuse to give a refund. They told me it was declined because the transactions weren't for the exact amount. These scammers get you to pay for the card and then they profit off the unused balance people can't use. I had an agent tell me they would give a refund and it was a complete lie. They gave me a case ID and said it would be 3-4 weeks. When I called back they told me the case doesn't exist and they don't give refunds. And they lied saying transactions were denied because the amount was above the limit. I tried above, below, the exact amount, none worked. They claimed the one for the exact amount was from a "blocked" location. It was an animal rescue.

SCAM! Do not give your money to these people. The company is profiting off your gift! The card is not operable and they are keeping your money! Dealing with customer service is impossible to get your money back. Total SCAM!

SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!! I purchased this card to keep track of birthday money to teach my son, before we used it, it was depleted $300. Had to wait over 90 days for a replacement after providing documents and long wait phone times to finally receive another card that still didn't work with fraudulent charges. After more phone calls and obstacles waiting for resolution.

These cards are a total scam. You are not able to use them online or at the store. I tried using it as a credit card and the card declined multiple times everywhere. It declined online and at different retail stores. I tried Target, Macy's, Walmart, Lowe's, Loft, Ann Taylor, TJ Maxx, Home Depot, etc. and they all declined. I tried setting up a pin online to use the card as a Debit Card and the card still declined. I went online to check the card and read the instructions on how to use it and there was a "Hold" on the card. I called Customer Service and they were not helpful. They are in South East Asia and they said that the card had been canceled for possible fraud activity.

If I could I would give it 0 stars. They are a scam. I have bought 3 cards from there one for my daughter's friend and she was only able to use half of the money for some reason. I bought 2 for myself. They were both 100 dollars and both of them wouldn’t work. Whenever we would call them they would say they put it on security hold. I requested to get another card because it was giving me too much problems but even those didn’t work so I requested a refund. They told me it would come in 1-2 weeks so it was suppose to come in the first week on may but now it’s June. I just called them again and they said I would get my refund in 7-10 days. I don’t believe that. Don’t buy this card. They are a scam.
