My card had 2 of the 16 numbers scratched off when I opened the card. I got online and completed the survey to get a case number. 45 days later, I still have not received my replacement card or any communication from them. There goes 100.00 down the drain and into their pocket!!!!

I recently purchased a Pre-paid card. I tried to use it right away and it wouldn’t work. Then I read that it could take up to a hr. I tried to use it again and it didn’t work. I called the customer service number and was told that the “FRAUD DEPARTMENT SAW SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY AND LOCKED MY CARD!” The suspicious activity was because I tried to use my card right away. There is no way to get a refund, unless they fill out a form and it will take 21 business days to see if you even qualify for a refund.
They can’t reactivate the card. They have to send me out a new one and that takes 10 business days. I threw a fit and they expedited the card now it’s 3-5 business days. I got the card because I needed to pay my storage unit. I had until midnight to pay it. I work but don’t make enough. I just got a house and my checking account is overdrawn. Payday isn’t for 5 more days. So I was able to come up with the money but needed to pay with card. If my storage wasn’t paid by midnight I lose it and it will go up for auction. There’s no way to come up with another 400 today so because of their faulty system I’m screwed and lost all of my family's belongings. I do not recommend using their cards. If anything goes wrong you not going to receive instant results.

I bought my son a $200 gift card for his birthday. He immediately used it and spent $174.00. After that, he told me he has been trying to use the card and it won’t work. He called customer service and was told it is activated and should work. I tried using it on a couple websites and I couldn’t even enter the card information, the store wouldn’t accept it. In a last ditch effort, I tried to load it onto my Starbucks account. The Vanilla website said the card had $21.43. I tried to buy $20 onto my Starbucks account and it declined.
I changed it to $15 and it worked. When I looked on the Vanilla website it said the charge at Starbucks was $18. So they took an extra $3. Looking at the first transaction of $174 and the amount of 21.43 that was left it looks like more was taken out from that transaction also. Now there’s like $3 left on the card that I’m sure we won’t be able to get off it and they will keep the money. I won’t buy another one of these trash gift cards, and I hope no one gives me one!

I only use prepaids when absolutely necessary. Save the spent cards for free trials where you have to give cc. It's hilarious watching them try and hammer through a payment after the trial expires. Anyways, these cards give you no consumer protection and no rewards. My postpaid card gives extended warranty and points. Good luck trying to get these schlubs to do a chargeback if something goes wrong. I noticed they lock you out of checking online balance when your balance gets low. Likely so you can't drain it down to zero, and they pocket the change. But, you can still check the balance on the toll-free number if you can do simple math.

I received a Vanilla gift card and did not use it right away. Someone made a purchase with the card number on Target online. I filed a dispute and it was declined. This had to have been an inside job as they should be able to prove the address of the purchase and or online email that made the purchase. The friend that sent me the gift card used to purchase Vanilla cards every year at Christmas time and send them to friends and family members but not anymore. It's a shame that this company is really dishonest.

WHAT A SCAM!!! Absolutely the WORST gift card you should ever buy. If you receive one, you’re up a creek without a paddle! Here’s why… My wife received a $25 Vanilla Visa gift card for her birthday. She went to a restaurant nearby to buy herself and a friend lunch. She paid with her gift card, but the waiter soon came over to tell her it only accepted $20 for her $39 lunch, so she had to pay the extra with her regular credit card. Then, later that day, we went to get a hamburger and thought we’d pay with the left over $5 on the card. WRONG! The attendant said it would only take $1.
I call the Vanilla Gift Card Support number on the back of the card to ask them what’s wrong with the card. They sounded like ** descent and their English was lacking. The first person I talked to for 15 minutes never understood my English. I asked for a Manager and guess what? I got another person lacking English as a primary language. So word to the wise, if you get one of these cards, GOOD LUCK! You’d be better off re-gifting it to someone you don’t like. I truly believe they sell their card in the hopes you get so frustrated trying to use it that you throw it away and THEY keep whatever is left on the card!

And still nothing, terrible customer service and can't understand anybody because nobody speaks english. Even the supervisor has 0 sense. Have an issue with this card! Website that doesn't work and when you can reach customer service, not helpful and if you don't have a receipt... forget about it. I wonder how much the profit is when there is an "accidental" issue with loading or activating a card? How many people lose or don't keep the receipt thinking it'll be fine... either way I don't recommend Vanilla and won't use them again. I'll also put this out to the military and veteran community to be sure it's understood that this company has poor business practice and customer service. DD sends

I wish I could give this a zero stars like how the other unsatisfied customers want to. I got a $50 Vanilla gift card this Christmas. I decided that I wanted to use it now, so when I tried buying something off a merchant site, the card declined. Mind you, what I wanted was $20. Apparently, it was blocked for "suspected fraud." How is it suspected fraud when I haven't even used it yet? Honestly, just convert the card into an Amazon one, or sell it off. Not worth your money and time.

My daughter bought me a $100 Vanilla Visa Gift card for my birthday in August 2024, I went to use it on Sept 12th, 2024 and there was only like $10 on there and someone had used the card at a Target (an online order) mind you I have had the card in an envelope since she got it for me and I havent even scratched any numbers off of it. I called and reported it immediately, they took my online report and sent me a edocument to sign and I did and sent back that same day, then they say wait 30 days, so I waited and I called back in October only to be told I needed to provide additional information when I already did in the original complaint, so I did it again and now they said wait 60 days, so I called back in December and I am told it takes 60-90 days and from the date of investigation of NOVEMBER - like what - I filed the first time 9/12, then the second time on 10/12, but they didn't get to it until November so I have to wait.
I called January 28th, 2025 and I was told they would have a decision on 2/1/2025, so I called on 2/1 and then told there has been no update on the case and they are going to escalate my case and I have to wait another 48 hours - that girl was rude and in Asia. So this morning I called again on 2/3/2025 and again told I needed to wait another 48 hours. They just do this hoping people will forget about their money but this was a gift from my daughter and I will not and I will not stop calling. I received a Vanilla gift card as a gift over the holidays. When I went to redeem a few weeks later, it failed as a credit and a debit. I called to see what was going on, and they asked for much personal info. We have supplied as much as we know about the card and the purchase and nothing has been done at this time. The original charge was $100 plus the fees associated with purchasing the card. The giver is out $100 and the recipient is also out $100! Seems this could be a scam after the research done on these. Incomm services out of Atlanta GA needs to step up somehow on this. Refund all of the purchasers what is due and/or replace the gift cards for face amount! I would not recommend purchasing anything Vanilla or through the Incomm company.

You are not guaranteed to get the funds you purchased. I recently received a visa gift card for Christmas and made a first purchase with no problem. A few days later I went shopping and was looking forward to treating myself to the rest of the balance on the card. Once at the register the machine only accepted $0.67. They tried multiple times but it's all it would accept. At home I checked my balance and there was nothing left on it, so I called customer support straight away. Apparently people steal the numbers off the cards and will keep trying to spend until it is empty. It happens 'all the time' and always with the same methods but there "nothing that can be done" and actual card holders get scammed twice. Shame on you visa.

I bought a Visa branded $200 Vanilla gift card at a large chain grocery store. I paid the $200 plus a $7.95 processing fee with cash (so not some odd payment method). When I tried to activate the card, the Vanilla website gave an error message saying that a system error occurred. I immediately called their customer service phone number, explained the situation to an agent, and was given a case number. The agent said that they resolve most cases in 3-5 days, but that it sometimes takes as much as 30 days. I also provided the requested scanned images of the card, receipt, and packaging, which they acknowledged receiving.
Over the next 34 days I frequently checked the status of the case on the Vanilla website, and called their customer service number a number of times to see if there was any progress. The status was always "In Review", and the agents were never able to tell me what Vanilla thought was wrong. They just kept telling me to be patient and give them 30 days.
Today is day 34. This time an agent told me that they would escalate the case, and that I should give them another 48 hours to get back to me with an update. The agent told me that there was a problem with the initial payment not having been received from the retailer. All through this time period, Vanilla has not communicated anything to me about the status of the case except "please wait". In the meantime, I do not have access to my $200, and they are a number of days past their commitment of resolving cases in 30 days.

Vanilla Prepaid Cards are the absolute worst. There isn’t a word strong enough to describe how bad their customer service is. You cannot add the gift card to Apple Pay, cash app or Venmo and most of the places I tried to use it (i.e., to pay a 15-dollar subscription fee) did not work. I received a $200 card as a gift and was double-charged by Walgreens for a delivery I never even received. Walgreens immediately reversed the charges, but Vanilla has been holding almost $80 hostage ever since.
Here’s the nightmare: every time you call, you’re forced to enter your full card number—only to have the rep ask for it again. Then, you’re stuck explaining the situation over and over. Each time, I’ve asked for a supervisor, and not once has one been available. On my fifth call, after being repeatedly put on hold, the rep told me to contact Walgreens for the transaction numbers of the reversals and then call back for a supervisor. Fine. I did exactly that. When I called back with the info, the new rep refused to connect me to a supervisor because I wouldn’t give them my card number again. Apparently, following their own instructions isn’t good enough.
This company has zero understanding of customer service. Their reps can’t actually help you, and instead of resolving issues, they fuel your frustration by refusing to escalate the problem. I have yet to speak to a supervisor, and my money is still locked up with no resolution in sight. Vanilla Prepaid Cards and their practices need to be investigated by banking regulators and shut down. They’re nothing but crooks.

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I LOST 1000$. I can’t believe these cards are just hanging in Albertsons like it is normal. I bought two 500$ to save money a few months before Christmas. Neither one worked and “customer service” said they had been compromised and new ones would have to be sent to my address and they said verbatim “the old cards are now useless” so I tossed them. That was my big mistake. But if they mailed me cards as they say you think they would have record of me existing. No record of me and refusal to look for my cards which I never received because I didn’t keep the old cards. Literally, nothing they can do. And they never even mailed them to me, they ripped me off so hard.

They always offer a suggestion; "try using a different online retailer or go to a physical store."... Why can't they just approve the transaction and let me retry? Anyway now that I have the very well thought out problem solving advice from them, I thought I would head out for some Christmas shopping. That is the one place they say to always end up if I am unable to spend my money at places that I would like or need to, right? Well the first stop the card worked. Still have more than 3/4 of the money after and next I spent over an hour shopping for gifts.
My many small items were rung up and it took a while since I had a lot, I put in my card and it was denied, I tried bypassing the pin and again was denied. The card also only has 12 digits, not 16. What a mess. I have seen nothing but terrible reviews of this card - I hope this money is not scammed. Looking forward to calling India or Pakistan tomorrow. It should be illegal for these companies to outsource their customer service centers like this. Probably some dude sitting on his couch with a script next to him.

I do regret purchasing this card because it is a pain in the ** to use. However I will say that for some reason most of the time it is processed it's done so as a debit card, but what I've found is that if you can get it to be ran as a credit card it works. Especially on Amazon...if you uncheck the debit card box it seems to work after asking for the CVC #. Otherwise these companies are treating it as a bank card, and that just doesn't work. This probably won't solve everyone's issues as fraud is rampant nowadays, but hopefully it will help some of you. Until this company becomes better at getting these cards to be more user friendly I cannot recommend one.

My mother sent me one of these as a birthday gift. We live in 2 different states. When I opened the packaging and went online to register the card, it asked for the 3-digit code on the back. I flipped it over and the Security Code box was blank. Called the service number and it took forever to get a support person on the line and kept getting referred back to website. Without the security code, you cannot access the site! Just received the "help" email which says it is required to send the receipt or electronic record of the purchase. Guess I will be out of luck on a replacement, and my mom is out $$$. I sent all the other info requested, but have no expectation of getting a new card.

I am very disappointed with the Vanilla Gift Card. I purchased 4 cards from a local store in the amount of $500 each. I very carefully checked the packaging to verify that they were entirely intact. I then went to make my purchase of 1795.00 and the 4th card showed up as possible fraud and wouldn't work. I checked the balance while standing there at the Costco register and it still showed $500 available but there was now a red flag on the page showing possible fraud.
After calling the number on the back of the card and trying for 20 minutes they were unable to help me. Now I have to wait for a new card to arrive to replace this one. This all happened within 3 hours of the cash purchase of the card. Apparently the customer service of this card is overseas and only authorized to send a replacement and absolutely nothing else. All I kept getting was a heavily accented "I understand your concern sir" or "I am sorry you are not happy" but no actual help for the situation I was in.

I have a case number but all communication henceforth, including submitting my receipt of purchase as proof, will be conducted through POSTAL MAIL. Not email. Will never recommend this card. The sad part is that I received two large $ amount cards for my birthday. I have no confidence that they will work anywhere. I tried using the first one THREE times with THREE different vendors. First two were online, second was in person at the post office. All transactions were declined and I have no idea why. And trying to find out why is a whole other story. Customer Service is non-existent. You call the number on the card and they refer you to the website if you want to report a problem. Not able to reach a person directly.
Then when you go to the website, the only options for reporting a problem have to do with transactions (either a fraudulent transaction or an incorrect balance) but those two options are useless if you can’t even complete a transaction! And the best part is, they give you the same number on the card to call (which of course keeps you in an endless circle since number tells you to visit website) or, wait for it - they give you an actual postal service mailing address (not an email address). Beyond frustrating. I have no idea what the issue is (it’s activated and balance is full) and now I’m afraid to do something like plan on using it for dinner because I have no idea whether or not it will work. I’ve bought this in the past for others as a gift. I only hope they didn’t experience the same frustration. I will never buy this again and will tell everyone I know to just give cash instead.

I NEVER write reviews but after receiving 2 of these gift cards from a cousin for $100 each I am feeling so bamboozled!! One of the cards seemed to work just fine and the 2nd has been a nightmare since September, when first received. My husband and I have been talking to actual people on the phone and the first time they said it was not secure (for some reason) so they'd have to send a new one. OK, so that's fine and it arrives but still could not use due to a hold they put on it.
Once again, we spoke to them and they required me to send them a copy of my driver's license, proof of address (duh, they'd just sent my new card there!) AND a copy of the receipt from my cousin buying the damn cards! I sent all of these documents against my better judgment and after many calls was told to wait 30 more days! Now it's 30 days and still a runaround. THIS IS A SCAM and the next solution will have to involve our attorney, I'm afraid. I want to warn everyone NOT to purchase these cards!!

Vanilla Gift (Vanilla Gift cards) is a SCAM! Don’t waste your money. They will sell you a gift card, activate it, you will get it all set up and then when you go use it they will decline the charge. When you call them they will say it’s because the card was compromised but they can’t explain how or why. They then can only mail you a new card. Meanwhile they have all off your money invested in stocks trying to generate more cash off of what they sold you. Check their business model. Fraudulent. U.S. Gov't needs to investigate and shut them down. A class action lawsuit should occur as well.

I was comfortable enough to ask our Office Manager about her gift card, and she told me that the other three employees had the same experience as her, but were not comfortable telling me. All four said once the email was opened, their were given a code that did not work or was expired. They tried calling for help, but the telephone system is looped in a circle. The card can't be used everywhere. I called the number on the back of my card for customer service since I wanted to buy something off of eBay. A well-trusted site that has been around for decades and should be good to use this kind of card on. After dozens and dozens of tries, the card just wouldn't go through. I don't know if it had to do with what I was buying (I doubt it did), which was a few books. I couldn't buy from this particular seller or any seller in general on eBay so as it turns out, I had to go to the official seller's site to actually buy the books I wanted at a slightly higher cost due to having to pay for shipping. Because of this I could have saved myself some of the money the gift card had and bought myself a few more books that I really wanted to read without having to pay out of my own pocket, had the Vanilla Gift Card's "security measures" been such a hassle on a trustworthy site like eBay.
Won't say I exactly hate my experience with the card because I was able to purchase something else I really wanted of which I was really happy about through another website. The dashboard was really easy to navigate to check my balance and everything so that's an upside, however the card isn't very universal and would like to think that there are better Gift Card companies out there with more versatility.
