Green Dot put a hold on my card 08/15/2016, said in 7 days I would receive my new card. Still no card and no access to my funds that I need. Now I'm in a crisis situation. I need my money and can't wait anymore and receiving no help at all. Only thing I heard from their customer service was they sent a card but stopped that card as well so almost 4 weeks and nothing. This is beyond ridiculous. I demand access to my money and to be compensated for all this grief.

My first experience with Green Dot was not good. I purchased a Green Dot prepaid visa card from Walgreens and loaded money onto the card at the cash register. I wanted to use it to order my daughter a Wifi Mobile Hotspot for her tablet to do her college assignments. When I went to order the device and use the card, I found out that a block was put on my card concerning illegal activity. I was just trying to order something for my daughter to use with her tablet to do her college assignments. Now, I can't order the device and my daughter needs it for college.

I had a relative purchase a MoneyPak card for me and they gave me the # to reload it with. I went to MoneyPak.com via the link from walmartmoneycard.com and tried to sign up for an account, and it says they already have an account with that information but I don't remember signing up for it. I assumed they used the same login for my Walmart card so I tried to log in with that but it didn't recognize my information and/or password, so I went through the password retrieval process and typed in two of the three pieces of information it says it needs, and it accepted it but I have yet to receive my login information or a way to reset it.
Neither my phone or email has received anything from MoneyPak. I need this money NOW and can't wait as I'm headed in to a treatment facility on Tuesday 9/6, and need to purchase things before I go in there. This is infuriating because my mother just bought me a MoneyPak card and I can't load the $ onto my card. My gosh, why do they do this to people?

Once I read the email I immediately contacted the customer service and received bad and inadequate service. I was informed that 17 transaction were charged to my account, I have today this is the third time in 12 months this has happened. I was told it will take 3 weeks for me to have this corrected and my funds returned. This was my complete paycheck. I now will not be able to pay rent, buy much needed medicine or currently due bills. I am now sure I will leave your company once my funds have been returned. I received a Green Dot card about a few months ago. At the time I was happy to experience it due to the fact that direct deposit comes two days earlier. However I notice my first week of using it there was multiple transactions for ATM fees also a foreign transaction fee. I have called to ask what this is. They can't verify it at all. They only issued me back 5 measly dollars because of the atm fees and didn't even check to see how long it had been going on. As far as the foreign transaction fee they swear they don't know who the merchant is and can't verify it. What kind of bank can't verify a merchant?! Then about two weeks I notice another multiple charges from IDRAM payment system. They were taking small dollar amount at first then it became extremely large amounts. I asked to do a stop payment. They said they don't do stop payments. I'd just have to shut my account down.
Well I need my account for my direct deposit. Of course they can't verify the merchant yet again nor don't know who the merchant is from foreign transaction fee or IDRAM payment system. They basically took 300 almost from me. Told me they couldn't issue me a credit. I have to write a dispute letter, wait ten business then I will receive a response back. So basically because of them I did not have a way to work nor did I eat for almost a week until someone lent me money. What federal insured bank doesn't issue a temporary credit or anything due to the inconvenience?
I have banked with Wells Fargo, Chase, Bank of America. They all issue temporary credits while going through the process of the dispute. Then I asked them due to the holiday the fact that I have no money in my account and the tenth business day is Tues is there anyway they can possibly speed up the process one more day. Their answer to me was no. I am hurt and unhappy and contacting a lawyer to file a lawsuit against them. This was my second time going through the issue with them. Additionally, they are not consumer-friendly at all.

It's been 4 months since I first made the terrible mistake of going into a Walgreen and buying one of these cards and pre-loaded $300. Since that day I haven't been able to activate my card or request a refund. Basically they have been holding my money hostage for four months while charging a monthly fee and giving no path to resolve this. Customer Service is non-existent!!! The online chat is only has the power to say "I understand you're frustrated" and then tell you someone will call in the next 24 hours (ridiculous time frame). When they call they barely speak English and are scared of asking management for help so if they can't help you they simply hang up the phone without warning. Then you have to go back to chat and request another call and wait another 24 hours. Repeat for 4 months. Beg plead to talk to management. Offer to drive up to the office to get a refund since I can't get card activated.
During this time I was sending emails to the customer service and one emailed me back and I explained my issue 2 weeks after first email saying "Sorry just noticed your message" and then they told me to call the automated line which has become the bane of my existence. No matter what you press you cannot talk to a human customer service agent. Preparing all my recorded material to sue for my funds as well compensation for wasting my time and causing me unnecessary stress. Tired of dealing with this joke of a company. If there is management they refused to step in when their bare bones customer service system fails. They do not even deserve 1 star.

I need to pay my rent and I'm already four days behind!! The transactions that were made, are from a merchant that don't even exist! You can't find them nowhere online! They have no website! I called to follow up with them and they can't even give you a straight answer! They send you to a automatic system! When I got a hold of a supervisor they now told me it can take up to 30 days!! This is unreal!! Worst company ever!! Can't even return a call!! So now I have to wait 30 day for my money! Best prepaid card service is Bluebird! If they can't give me my money back I'm switching over to Bluebird by American Express!

I received a refund the 08/27/16 from a company with whom I did a transaction last year. When Green Dot got the refund they suspended my account. No phone call was made no e-mail no attempt to contact me whatsoever. There is nothing illegal or inappropriate about the refund. On 08/29/16 I found out the account was suspended. I called the 800 # and the rep told me to E-mail them the original transaction receipt and the refund receipt which I did. On 08/29/16 the account is still suspended. I called back and the rep said they had not received the requested docs. I resent them. On 08/30/16 Account is still suspended. I call the 800#. The rep says they need 24 hrs to "investigate". On 08/31/16 Account is still suspended. I call the 800# New response, this time it's back to we did not receive the docs. This time I had the rep stay on the line until he verified receipt of the docs, and of course now it's going to be another 24 hrs to "investigate."
Please know there is no information on the docs I sent that Green Dot does not already have. I don't advise anyone to deposit more than 100.00 to this bank. In other words don't trust them with any more money than what you are ready to part with. I am afraid this is going to be a long stressful ordeal before its done. I did not purchase this card for added stress but this week it's been nothing but. Will update tomorrow.

My card was not negative. I verified that through customer service 8 times. I was informed at that point my last 500 was now going to be refunded in 3 to 4 weeks. I am a single mother with one income and live paycheck to paycheck. This is not acceptable as I have no groceries and no electricity because Green Dot decided not to accept my reload with no explanation. No way to track if or when I'll get my money back and me and my children who live in Phx AZ have no electricity due to them. I am disgusted this company is allowed to do this to people with ease.

I bought a NASCAR Green Dot card at Dollar General a couple days ago and I added $125.00 for a bill and I walked straight outside and tried to activate the card and it kept telling me that it's a INVALID ENTRY!?!? So I call Green Dot cause I have another that I so happen to find in my mail after I came home and I call the customer service and they told me they could not switch the money to my other card "Even though my name is on both cards" so they told me they would be sending me a e-mail within 1-2 days and it's been almost a week and I have not heard anything. I borrowed the money from my mother and took all I had and put on this card.
Everything I had now I'm going without because I can't get MY MONEY??? WHY??? They said it was a misprint on the card... okay why can't I put my money on my other GREEN DOT CARD... This Green Dot is a scam. Something must be done about it. They will give me my money back. Still haven't heard anything but I did email them so I'm gonna see what the LIE is now... DON'T BUY NO GREEN DOTS NO MORE.

I've had my Green Dot card for 2 years with no problems. It expired this month, so I've called 3x to get a replacement. I will send a replacement what it was for Western Union. Every time I've called since then they say that they're going to send me a new card but again they keep sending me Western Union cards instead of a Green Dot card. This is happened all three times to have called since August 1st. So now my paycheck is just sitting in my account and I have no access to it. It is getting very frustrating.

I loved the idea of this card since I travel a lot for work. I figured if something were to happen and my card were to get stolen, the thief wouldn't make off with a lot of money nor much of my personal information. However, about a month after I received the card, I was hit with a $9.95 fee. When I signed up for the card I didn't see anything regarding a fee anywhere. I inquired about this fee and I was sent a link from their Customer Service to view fees. According to the link they provided, I should have been charged a $7.95 fee, NOT $9.95. I don't see $9.95 anywhere! No idea where they got this from. I chose to cancel the card. Upon cancelling, it says it will take 2-4 weeks to receive a check in the mail for the remaining balance. I foresee 4 weeks going by just so they can charge yet another $9.95 fee to give me even less money!

About 10 days ago on August 19th, 2016, I purchased a Green Dot prepaid Visa card. I was told to activate it using it at a register. I deposited the largest part of my paycheck onto the card. When I went to call Green Dot to give my address and pertinent information to activate my card, when doing so I was told I could only use a street address even though we do not receive mail of any kind at our residence. I was told to call back within two business days to give the mailing address because Green Dot claims, for security purposes, that they cannot take the mailing information on the day you activate your temporary card. I complied and called the following Tuesday, which was August 23rd, 2016. They had mailed my card out on August 22nd and I told them in advance that it would not be deliverable and that we use a PO Box. They then blocked my card stating that it had the same number as the temporary card.
I receive my new hard card and since Green Dot has blocked my original card because of their inadequate policies, I have to upload my driver's license and wait for them to examine it to decide if I am who I say I am. I have the original temporary card and the new card. The odds of me acquiring the new card in my box when it wasn't suppose to come to me is a million to none.
I am very irritated. They claimed suspicious activity was found on my original card. It never got delivered. The only suspicious activity is that company. They should be outlawed in every state in the union. I don't make a lot of money but because I don't, I cannot afford to have to have my money tied up for weeks. I get paid twice a month. That means these people have added 2 or more weeks to me being able to have access to my funds. That is insane. I bet they don't have to go 4 or 5 weeks with no income. I am not a happy customer. Beware of Green Dot and they also outsource to other countries, so getting someone you can understand is a toss up.

Carol, We are glad to have been able to help resolve your concern. Should you need any further assistance, please let us know. Thank you.

They put a block on my account for no reason at and said I need to verify my account. So ok. It's me not a problem. I'll just send them what they want. Now I sent them not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 different types of id including military id. They keep saying it will take 2 days to do so. Bullcrap. It's been 2 weeks and now they're just ignoring me. I got lucky one day and the lady I spoke with slipped up and said she seen no reason my account should be blocked. She also said "oh yes I see they received your id" and VERIFIED WHO I WAS. She sounded confused and said she would find out what was going on. The very next minute the phone went dead on their end. Every time I tried calling back it goes straight to a recording saying they're trying to verify who I am and would take 2 days.
This company wants you to give up and let them just keep your money. Don't do it because I'm not. I'm getting a lawyer and fighting for what is right no matter if it cost me money. DONT GIVE UP PEOPLE. GREEN DOT ARE CROOKS AND WILL GET YOU IF YOU LET THEM. And even with this they're going to try some excuse and say "well maybe you need to this or that." No Green dot maybe you should just give my money like you should have done.

I made an account just so that I can let others know how bad of a product GreenDot has become. I use Greendot frequently, but they recently raised the monthly fee from $4.95 to $7.95 for no reason and no added services. Whatever, it's $3. But when I went to add money to my card to purchase something overseas, it wouldn't load so I had to buy a new card. Again, no big deal. This card, however, wouldn't work because it was still a "temporary" card which apparently has restrictions that Greendot tells you NOTHING about prior to buying the card. So instead of being able to purchase what I intended, I wasted the load fee and have to either buy a different provider's card or wait for 2 weeks for the "personal" card to come in the mail.
I called customer service and asked for them to transfer money from the new card to the old card and surprise surprise, they can't transfer money using a temporary card. When I asked to speak to management or someone in charge, Monica employee **, refused to transfer me saying that she'd answered my questions so there was no need to transfer me to anyone else and told me that there were no other numbers I could call to handle my dispute! This is crap. I'm a paying customer and deserve to get an answer when I feel like I'm being ripped off. Getting my money off of my card, taking the loss and never using Greendot again!

Hi Russ, Green Dot cards do not have overdraft fees. You were assessed the monthly maintenance fee associated with your account. As you activated the account in June, you were assessed the fee in June, July and August, as per the cardholder agreement. Please note: Green Dot will waive your monthly charge in any billing cycle if you load at least $1,000 posted to your card. I bought my Green Dot prepaid card from Walgreens and put in $150. When I went to register my card, the automated machine said it was already registered. I couldn't talk to anyone other than the machine since I was not the one who registered. I went to their website and sent an email explaining the situation and told them to hold my account so no one can withdraw my money. Someone finally got back to me through email within a day. They requested that I send in a copy of my receipt and front/back of my card. I did that and they opened a case for me. After 5 days, they contacted me and told me that I provided the info to the person who registered my card. I told the rep why would I do that. The person who registered my card was over a hundred miles from me. It is common sense. If I authorized someone to activate my card, why would I be telling Green Dot to hold my account and investigate the situation.
They said there is nothing they can do about it since I authorized it. I repeatedly told them that I did not authorize anyone to activate my card. I had proof that I was the card owner but they still decided to side with the person who stole the card info. I even asked them for the proof from the other party about me giving my authorization and they couldn't provide it to me. Very poor service and they don't care much about their customers. I had purchased a Green Dot prepaid debit card for personal use, loaded it twice with funds and then wasn't allowed to load again. I purchased a 2nd card and it worked fine the first few reloads and the last time I added funds was at my local Wal-Mart. I checked my balance and my funds were there, not even 45 minutes later my funds mysteriously disappeared so I called Green Dot and they told me that Wal-Mart had done a reversal and taken back the money. Well I go back to Wal-Mart and explain the situation to them, they automatically counted their funds to see if for sure that the reversal actually took place and the results were that it hadn't.
The staff at Wal-Mart called Green Dot to help resolve the issue but Green Dot couldn't or wouldn't give them a transaction number or time of said reversal and asked that Wal-Mart email them a copy of the transaction where I loaded the money in which Wal-Mart did not once but twice because Green Dot claimed they never got it. They then asked me to email them a picture front & back of my card and said they would do an investigation into my lost funds. I called to check the status of the investigation to be told they had already closed it and I still don't have my money back.

I check my card I have a balance of $4.10. How the hell do I put 20 dollars on there and then end up with only $4. They have in their policy, for 90 days cards inactive will not be charged a monthly fee. Even if my card was active in have 2 months worth of getting billed for monthly fees without use of the card. And even if that I shouldn't equal up to $4 on my card after I put 20 on there. This was my last of my money due to not having a job and needing to pay a bill. Lee, It sounds like you were assessed the monthly maintenance fees associated with your account, which start the day after you register your card and subsequently each month. The 90-day inactivity period you mentioned applies to cards which have not been registered. Please note, some of our products offer ways to have your monthly fee waived. Excellent customer service when their poorly written FAQs have NEVER had the info I needed like what is the maximum amount a biweekly payroll direct deposit can be ($10,000), what is the waiting period after adding a 2nd card holder that the person can use the direct deposit info (after the person has been added for $4.95 and verified, which will ideally be seconds as it will be the direct deposit info that already exists with the acct). (See, GreenDot! Wasn't that easy!!!) HOWEVER, we do have 1 HUGE complaint. The choice of cards. Well, the fact that there is no choice of cards. It is something we would be willing to pay for. Give us NASCAR, give us Mossy Oak, give us Beaches, give us the choice to put loved ones on our card, give us Dogs and Cats, give us SOMETHING!!!

For all the years with Green Dot I never had a problem that couldn't be resolved minor only. All major problems such as looking at the status of charges, if I didn't recognize it, I would call G.Dot and they will stop payment to party requesting (pending payment). Too bad all banks won't do that. I also use PayPal for online purchases but sometimes companies don't accept PayPal payments. Green Dot representatives every time I told them that I didn't recognize or that I didn't make any transaction with whomever they stopped payment from going to anyone giving me the phone number associated with the payments in question... The second account well they just tell me I'd have to wait 5 days if payment call back to file dispute against the Company. Sorry but if my money is in your care, your pretty much responsible for it. If you say I only work here, I don't endorse the policies, then they need to give you a termination boost.
I respect the representatives that have helped me or had to deal with me if I was unhappy. Everybody has their own way in which they assist. This I saved for last. One morning while taking a shower my new roommate used my computer to purchase movies for her phone. I learned of this when I had to call GDot to cancel my card, then I was told that at 9:45 am a charge was made online for movies. I told the agent I went into shower 5 min before that as I looked at the clock to see how much time I had before friend arrives. The agent told me she will Refund my money. The rep didn't even know me yet she did what she felt was right. They (Green Dot reps.) would call me after any transaction, wait for my code text that tells them I did or didn't do that transaction. So after all the love why would I go elsewhere?

I have a Green Dot Walmart Money prepaid card and someone used my card fraudulently in Miami, Fl at Kmart. I have never been to Miami and never been to Kmart. I called Green Dot and they were so rude and when I asked for a manager they advised there is no manager. They said it can take 30 days for me to get my money back and now they had to close my card out and reissue a card and that takes 14 days. I need someone from Green Dot corporate to call me asap.

SCAM ALERT!!! I ordered a Green Dot card off their website, which was pretty easy for my direct deposit for work. The first red flag is that the account number wasn't valid. The person in charge of payroll finally got it to work. Payday rolled around and I didn't get my deposit. I called Green Dot and got the runaround and the person who I spoke with, from what I could understand, gave me three different reasons why my deposit was still "pending" all of which included a wait of three pay periods before I could get my money.
I couldn't wait two months to get my money... I had my wife call and she talked to a girl who sounded like she was 12 years old. She said the same thing, that it would take 3 pay periods to get my money deposited. My wife proceeded to tell her that it didn't say anywhere about the wait and that it was false advertisement. We had our car repossessed because of them thieves so never use them, they will just steal your money. GREEN DOT SUCKS **!!!

I received this card as a gift for baby shower. In addition to very poor customer service, I was denied to receive any kind of confirmation. I closed my account today (even via email they have on file). I was also denied request to participate in their survey "since she closed my account". I was misinformed that if I call again it will be indicated to me account is closed and this is "immediate" and I'm still given an option to reload the card. Lady from customer service refused to hang up first so I have no access to survey. Very unprofessional!

Glad that we received our money back, took multiple times to contact green dot and get a timely response back. We were out our money for 6 months, unable to use it. Should have never been in this situation in the first place, denied to pay us our money after 2 separate claims. Would like to see Green Dot improve on money cards being scammed.

I put $150 on my card at a local Walmart store. When I got home I check my account to verify the transaction, which I always do since my card had been compromised in the past. I realized that all the funds had been used in another city. I filled out a transaction complaint form from online mailed it the next day registered. Never heard back, called Green Dot was told they never received it. I filed and was denied twice, stating since I checked online I was aware of the transactions. Crazy. Walmart stole my money. Claim **. This took place April 20, 2016.

8/5/2016 - I received a Green Dot prepaid card as a gift $200. Inside of card wrappings there was no information pamphlets. The next day $7.95 mo service fee was deducted from card. I phoned number on back of card 866-795-7597 and was told all that info will come with my perm card on 8/10/16 and that is their monthly service fee. I phoned back on 8/10/16 spoke w/ suprv Nicole and requested perm card to be cancelled once at zero balance and was told by suprv Nicole to destroy temp card. From 8/11-8/13/16 there is a balance on my card I'm not able to. Green Dot has placed a block on perm card and it cannot be used at all.
I've have phoned the 866# from 8/11-8/13 and spoken with 7 agents whom barely speak English and have been transferred each time to an automated system where there is no option to speak with a live person or an option to resolve my issue. I've spoke with 8/10-8/11 Nicole, 8/12 Don, Faith, Devine, Ren, each claiming to be a suprv. After holding and being transfer on phone from 6 pm - 7:24 pm, I decided to go online and send several dispute, refund, other complaint on their website hoping someone American would contact me.
8/13 - Celyn (email cust support) left a voice msg on my cell and sent an email stating for me to call back and leave a good time to call. I immediately phone back to get looped right back into the automated system in which I reached Alvin whom again transfer me back to the automated system. I then responded to Celyn email within 10 mins from her original and have not received a response. I was requesting a refund of my balance in the form of a non-reloadable gift card ASAP and hoping never to do business with Green Dot again. It's too many issues to name in one email regarding this company. I felt like someone should know about this one.

I purchased this card because I checked into a hotel and they needed a card for a temp incidental hold. I put 50 on the card and it was authorized pending incidentals. Once I checked out the hotel released the 50 on their end so I called Green Dot to release the hold to have available access to those funds which they would not do. I'd have to wait 2 weeks. The hotel faxed documents on my behalf to be able to have my funds back. Even with the hotel doing that that still had me wait 14 days. Today is the date my funds are available to me so I go to the atm and wasn't allowed to withdraw the money until the card with my name on it came in the mail. So I call to see when I'd get the card. They said it should have already been sent. The only thing they could do was mail another one. I specifically told the rep "No. Do no not do anything with the account. I do not want you to report the card as not received," that I'd look through my mail.
I found it. I call back to activate and it could not be processed. I talked to a rep and they tell me the card was reported not received that I would have to wait another 3 days to access my cash with new card. At this point I am livid!! After I told the rep not to because I needed access to the cash and did not want to wait more than I had to that I would look for the card because if she did that my original card would not work and she did it anyway!! Now after waiting 2 weeks for them to release the hold I have the card to be able to withdraw the funds (with the temp card you can't) and now I can't and have to wait another couple of days for a new card to withdraw the cash. I asked to speak with someone higher to let them know of this incident. This rep cancelled my card when I told her NOT to. Now I can't access my cash with my card that was mailed... After waiting 2 weeks!!!
Now my funds are available to me. Can't even withdraw. I have to wait another 3-5 days because your rep decided she'd go ahead and cancel my card. I was not able to speak to a manager. This card sucks!!! Do not purchase Green Dot. The customer service sucks as well. NETSPEND is so much better and definitely worth it! And to add when my 50 was being held Green Dot negative my account -7.95 for monthly fee so my funds was 42.05. I haven't even had the card for more than 48 hours when they negative the account for a monthly maintenance fee.

I purchased a prepaid Walmart card and it came with Green Dot bank services. Green Dot has a horrible reputation so I never would have gotten this card had I known Walmart was banking with Green Dot. I paid for a rental car on July 29, 2016 with this card. My purchase was $1,290.87. Green Dot then held a pending charge of $1,296.00 after they received their money from my Hertz Merchant. I called to get the hold released and was told that it would be on hold until September 28th, 2016 unless the merchant sent over a release form which they did on August 5th.
I called Green Dot on August 8th and they confirmed that they had received everything and the charge would be reversed by August 10th which is today. I called and was told that case was denied because the paperwork was missing a signature letterhead. I then called the merchant who assured me that the paperwork was on letterhead and had a signature. Green Dot then said that my request was still denied. I had no idea that Green Dot would keep my money on an already paid claim which puts me in a bad spot with my creditors and rental office.

On June 10, 2016 I purchased two $20 cards, each having an additional fee of $1.95, for my daughter's preschool teachers, which, within minutes later, I realized they weren't gift cards. I called the company and spoke to a woman who took all of my information and assured me that I would be receiving a refund within two weeks. The weeks passed and I never received them. I had to jump through hoops to even obtain a phone to which I would be able to actually speak with someone without needing the numbers on the cards, since I had just thrown them out. Luckily, I thought, I still have the receipt!
So I called again, only to be told they would call me back to gather more information. Upon scratching my head, I wonder why what I gave them was not sufficient. So, every time they called I was busy. I even emailed them and told them when a good time is to call, on a specific day. So what do they do?... they don't call on that next day, but wait an additional day, at which time I am unable to answer my phone. Hmm.
So I write them again and they email me a form to fill out with all the information from the sales receipt. They come back and said, "I'm sorry, we cannot fulfill the refund without the proper information?" It's ALL there... read it! So I tell them that the information is there, just scroll (like I should have to tell them that). Hmm... then they write back and tell me that someone would be calling me the next business day after they receive a picture of the receipt! So I sent a picture of the receipt (mind you, all they should need is the cash register information. Jumping through hoops so I wouldn't bother, I presume. So, it's now August 8, and I still have not heard a word. No phone call, no email. BIG SCAM!

Called and got a runaround that my pin got stolen in New Jersey. 1 hour buying the MoneyPak, the indian accent person felt concern, asked for my email address and was shock that my email or computer has been hack. At this point I say "what happen to my $$$$$." "Don't worry sir. We will fix that but you trust me right." The moment he said that word I started to begin suspicious. He asked me to go to my computer and go to this address he wants me to put my email address and press send after... God behold it run like you see in the movies... Everything that I can understand is saying is error for every crypted words on my email.
Then he used the word again "you trust me right". "I want you to call this number. They will fix all your hack information, bank statement, password, so this don't happen again. But there is a fee that will be $150 only..." I then realize I'm being scam. I asked him "why do you use MoneyPak if you don't work for them." He insist he did. I asked for speaking for his supervisor. He refuse to give it to me... If someone out there can find a live person on MoneyPak or Green Dot I wish you luck... Why is this in Walmart, Pavilions, Ralphs, all the prominent legit consumer market. They are selling a scam... Just imagine I speak english. What more to the poor hispanic who can barely read or understand this process.
Let's say consumer buy average of $50 day to load a card and 10,000 people in the USA buys per day. Half of them gets problem like me frustrated and just gives up... That's $50 X 5000 is $250,000 per day going to their pockets. Add that 1 month... No live person to talk to, nothing no matter what number you see on Google, on the card it goes around to one main automated person. I don't or can't find order no, but I live in Orange County California, bought the cards on CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens for the MoneyPak.

Early last week, (Around Monday) I discovered that there was an unauthorized purchase on my card. I called the number on my Walmart Money Card immediately to discuss my options. I had just gotten paid and all of my money was on the card. The extremely rude customer service rep cancelled my card before she even explained to me what was going on. I received an email shortly after that the hold on my card had been lifted. I was confused because I thought the card was cancelled so I called again and I got the same girl. She very rudely said "I have already told you your card is cancelled." I told her I was just confused because of the email saying it wasn't. She cut me off and talked down to me like I was stupid. She said she was sending us a new card.
This past Tuesday, (over one week later) I begin to get extremely low on the cash I had so I called to check when my card would be in. My card was never ordered! So I talked to a different rep who told me I could pay for a rush order. I paid $15 for rush 3 day delivery (my account was charged that day) and I still have no card, 4 days later. I am completely penniless and extremely frustrated by the company. When I do get a card, I will be pulling my money out and I will be done with this company. I can't believe that I got punished this way for my card getting compromised. I even explained that I had no cash and they did not care. Turns out I could've just filled out a form online and not had to deal with all this but no one bothered to tell me. I have two weeks of checks I can't access, I have bills that I can't pay, and the stress it has put on me and my household is horrible.
We are middle class and live paycheck to paycheck like most people. We had a little bit of cash saved but now that's gone. We don't even have any money for groceries or gas. If this card doesn't come in Monday I have no idea what we will do. It's so frustrating because the money is there, I just can't get it. It has been the worse experience I have ever had with a company. There was no empathy for my situation, They did not explain anything before cancelling my card... Wal-mart is a huge company and you would think they would care more about how awful this makes them look. My wife and I have been telling everyone we know that uses the Money card because I don't want this to happen to anyone else. NEVER get a money card.

The merchant sent a fax & email to Green Dot to remove the charge, but Green Dot will not remove the "pending" charge - which takes away from available funds. Green Dot says they can remove the "pending" charge if the charge was from a car rental, which is crazy because you can not use Green Dot at car rentals.
I spoke with a representative about freeing up "my money" so I can pay bills, eat & etc., I asked to speak with a manager, but the rep provided me with her first name, Marquita, and hung-up the phone in my face. I never used any profanity or spoke badly toward the rep; I just wanted to speak with someone in a higher position of authority. No customer should be hung-up upon when they are trying to resolve an issue. I will be removing my money and closing the account. Do not use this company. RUN, RUN, RUN to another company.

I purchased a Green Dot card and had direct deposit. I purchased the card in January 2016. I get paid once a month via direct deposit. My pay was fairly low to begin with. 300. a month. I had no problems with my card or my account. My paycheck was much larger for the month of June 2016. I received a deposit of approximately 1100.00 on June 21st 2016 due to working a lot more hours. I made a few purchases in my local area and spent about 200.00. I made a payment to Facebook for an old bill using my online option. All of a sudden, a message appeared telling me to call the number on the back of my card. I called and was questioned about each of my transactions. I confirmed that I had made them. I was then told my account was frozen due to suspicious activity with no further details.
I was instructed to buy another card and use the pay people feature. It didn't work. Every agent repeated from a script of "we are sorry for the inconvenience but your account is frozen until you receive your new card." It never came. I filed complaints in the beginning with BBB and FDIC. This was my only income for food, housing, etc. Two weeks and ten or more conversations with Green Dot agents and no results. No card in the mail. No other way to access one penny of 800.00 balance that I trusted them with. I finally realized that closing my card would be the only option to get my money. I am supposed to receive a check in two weeks but I was supposed to receive a new card in one week and that never happened.
My card was never reported lost or stolen. They just denied me access to my own money for no apparent reason. I had to change my direct deposit for my next paycheck. They have multiple complaints that sound identical. I lost time from work making phone calls and contacting agencies for help. I will be contacting an attorney which is more lost time from work. I do not want to see anyone else lose their money or go through this stressful ordeal. I never want to deal with this unethical and irresponsible company again. I hope that I get my money from these people but it looks like they just got away with it from where I'm sitting. Please do not ever trust this company.

They refused to tell me just what this so called suspicious activity was. The agent said he didn't even know because they are not told themselves due to privacy issues and that there was no one that could tell me and that I the consumer would never know either due to privacy. I asked to have them lift the block on my card long enough to go to an ATM and withdraw the money and they said that is impossible.
I have read on this site that others have been allowed to go to the ATM and take out their money but I was told that was not possible. This is all the money I have and will suffer by waiting for a new card to be sent. I purchased a MoneyPak card, bearing the Green Dot logo, loaded with $240.00, thinking that I would use it to load cash onto my PayPal account. As it turns out, one is no longer able to load money onto PayPal using MoneyPak. MoneyPak refuses to refund money. This forced me to purchase a Green Dot pre-paid Visa. Purchasing a Green Dot pre-paid Visa forces one to necessarily load even more money onto what I consider to be an instrument of consummate evil, the Green Dot pre-paid Visa. I now have $260.00 tied up on a card that cannot be used. I went to the Green Dot site and registered the pre-paid Visa. All "seemingly" went well. I then proceeded to load the MoneyPak card onto the Green Dot Visa. It said that my information didn't match the information on file. All information was triple-checked by another set of eyes and found to be accurate.
When you call the 800 number at Green Dot, you speak to someone in the Philippines with a heavy accent and cultural issues regarding communication. This works out well for Green Dot, but not for the consumer. The Filipino rep advised me that my card was on the way. ON THE WAY? I have a card in my hand on which $20.00 is trapped. Furthermore, I have a piece of cardboard bearing the Green Dot logo, with $240.00 trapped on it. What's worse is, I have now input the number on the MoneyPak card into their system. This may indicate to MoneyPak that the funds have been used.
I have sent an email to MoneyPak, but they have two business days to respond. Two business days is an eternity in the cyberworld/internet. In the meantime, MoneyPak is making interest off the money they have stolen from me. I do consider separating you from your cash as stealing your money. The California Attorney General needs to do something about this. I am 85 years old and MoneyPak/Green Dot is a predator!!!

The card they told me to buy was unable to receive funds due to the fact I needed the new replacement card to activate in order to transfer the funds which I was confused on to as why they told to buy in the first place and I will be able to transfer if they already knew that they would not allow me to transfer the fund there.
They are liars and full of **. They held my money. I have a 8 year old who needs to dropped off. Car is in shop. I work a hour away. No public transportation in my area, no food at home and my direct deposit is sitting there in the account and I have no way of getting any money for anything. They lied to me numerous times about transferring the money. Hung up on me multiple times. They aren't customer friendly at all and can't speak a lick of English whatsoever. I wish there was a way I can get a class action lawsuit against them. I would for the lies they tell about atm fees they claim are free that truly aren't free that they smack me with every day. There need to be some sort of action taken against these crooks.

I've had my Green Dot Prepaid Card for a long time now and I loved it, but they recently sent me a customized one with my name on it. You can't even talk to a real person without giving them your social security number! They stole my money! That's not fair at all!

We had Social Security Benefits direct deposited to the Green Dot card for several years without a problem. Each time the card expired, a new one was issued until April 2016. This time when the card expired, they did not issue a new card and did not notify us that the account was being closed. We found out after calling when we did not get the new card. We also found out that some back pay from Social Security to the tune of close to $5k was deposited to that account and accepted well after the account had been closed. We have called and requested to get the money back and were told that the only way to get the money is for them to issue a refund check and send it via standard postal service, no tracking number and cannot be expedited. We were told to wait for two weeks and then call them back if we do not receive the refund check in the mail.
This has happened three times now, three refund checks have been requested and three checks never showed up. Each time, we are told that this is the ONLY solution they have. This is the money we live on and we are in dire need of getting access to it. Each time we call, they apologize for the inconvenience, verify that they have the correct address and request another refund check.
They refuse to reopen the account, issue a new card and transfer the funds or direct deposit the funds to our personal account. They offer no proof of the check being cut, no proof of it being mailed and cannot explain what has happened to any of the checks they "sent". They also cannot explain why they accepted two deposits on a closed account instead of refusing them. Customer service is absolutely useless and infuriating as all they can do is offer the same "resolution" that actually resolves absolutely nothing. We will never use Green Dot again and will be sure that everyone we know will never use them. BOYCOTT GREEN DOT, THEY ARE THIEVES!

My boyfriend and I purchased a Green Dot card at CVS and put $60.00 on it. The cashier failed to tell him there was a fee every time the card was reloaded, in this case I believe $4.00 was immediately taken out. Also there was a fee for buying the card itself, which was also not explained even though it is supposedly obvious. We got the card to purchase one item on the internet and by mistake got this card instead of an express card. We were in a rush but didn't think this card could be such a nightmare. Once we returned home, my boyfriend started registering the card online. It was a bit sketchy that he was required to put his social security number in but that's not the worst part. Once all of his info was entered, the website malfunctioned and sent him to a screen saying there was an internal error. He called once and they told him to wait one hour and talked him into having a personalized card sent to his house which is a load of bull...
He tried again the next day and it still did not work. He went online to buy the item for 50 dollars and was sent an email denying his purchase. He called up to check his balance and was told he only had 48 dollars in his account because of the fees. They suggested putting more money on the card. Our plan was to put a little bit more on the card and spend it all in one shot and then cancel it. Unfortunately when we reloaded it, another fee for $4.00 lowered our balance. We went home to try and buy it again and were sent another email denying the purchase. Apparently we only had TWELVE DOLLARS LEFT on the card. How?!? Out of frustration we called the horrible customer service number which is mainly a robot and a bunch of workers who are not understandable. They told us that our purchase did go through even though we got a purchase denied email, not a confirmation email.
She then proceeded to mumble about how there was 12 dollars left on the card and a bunch of incomprehensible words about fees. Out of frustration and exhaustion we hung up and decided to wait for another email from Amazon confirming the purchase. Moral of the story - this card is falsely advertised as an easy debit card but is actually a scam to get more money out of you than you can even spend. Fees for everything and they don't even try to help when the card (full of money) gets denied.
Speaking on the phone is the most aggravating experience because they don't listen and don't care. I wish we looked up reviews first because we got scammed out of 80 dollars. DO NOT DO THIS, GET AN EXPRESS GIFT CARD INSTEAD OR ANOTHER CARD. This is NOT worth the money or the issues that everyone seems to have. Also, we still can not log on to our account to cancel the card and they will not help us figure out the problem. Awful - should be shut down altogether.

It's time to boycott Green Dot because they are criminals. I've used Green Dot in the past and have been railroaded into services I didn't order but the customer service helped out. Now, Green Dot customer service has sunken to an all time low. After flat-out stealing money from me, Green Dot's outsourced customer service specialist tell me there is no possible way they can connect me to a United States customer service specialist (they all call themselves customer service account manager specialist and they are all the only supervisor available) and if you persist in asking to speak to their boss or an American service representative, they just send you back to the beginning of the automated service.
Green Dot has become one of the scum sucking vulture criminals of the business world and their third world sweatshop customer service is beyond useless as they cold heartedly laugh at you and flip you the bird. Let's turn it back on these crooks and send these heartless customer service reps packing by making Green Dot go out of business. My husband and I have been using Green Dot for the last year and half. We even get his paychecks automatically deposited. Today was payday so I checked my balance and I noticed a $39.00 charge that I did not make to my account. I call Green Dot and explained that I did not make that charge so they have to cancel card and mail a new one which takes two weeks. Ok I understand if someone used card fraudulently we need new card. My problem was I wanted to get my money out before they do cancel it since my whole paycheck gets deposited every week. First lady tells me it's too late. She already cancelled it. Well I pitched an absolute fit - asked for another supervisor. Was told someone would call in 24 hrs. Well that won't work so I begged the lady and told her crying, "Mind you that I have two kids and that's all the money I have. How am I supposed to feed them?"
I told her, "There's an atm across the street. Why wouldn't you let me take out the remaining funds then cancel the card?" She finally agreed to give me 10 mins while she sat on the phone to get what I could out of the atm. She very rudely told me I had 10 mins no less no more. This company is a joke. After all that I already done it there's nothing I can do. Obviously they could do something cuz she reactivated it and let me go to ATM. It seems like they could of nicely been like "I understand ma'am. Go get your money out this morning and then we will cancel." Not until 10 to 15 mins of me completely freaking out did she agree to do so.
So I cancelled my whole account and asked for the remaining money plus the 39 fraudulent charge be mailed to me. Just a little bit of courtesy and I wouldn't of had to cancel my whole account. All it would of took was "Ma'am go get your money out and then we can cancel your card and take care of this bad charge" but nope they treat you like it's a crime you might need your own money! Stay away from Green Dot!

I hang up. I do that. It's declined again. I call back. Another rep says something wasn't enter correctly. I should be ready to use the card. I try again. It declined. I call back. After a 10 minute hold she says my account I got the day before had been compromised (within 12 hours of purchase). They need 14 days to send out a card. They are so sorry. I'm pissed. It's getting closer to my daughter's drop off date. So on the third call Virah (Indian lady # **) tells me to buy another card and transfer the funds to that card. Of course I ask "How can we transfer a blocked account to another card?" She assured me there was no problem. It was an easy fix. So off to give Green Dot another 8.95 (the card + activation fee) + 40.00. I get this card put in under my name. Activate it at my home on a desktop. I call the company back, the next representative tells me that the last representative gave me the wrong information. That I can't transfer funds from one card to another (This is Sam **) and that the new card is also blocked due to suspicious activity. The new card hasn't been used. I activated while on the phone waiting. How can it be flagged? How can both be flagged? And that I'd either have to wait 14 days for both cards or pay 15.00 each to have them expedited. They added bogus balance inquiry fees (yes, bogus as I never use the ATM to check my balance when I can send a text or check my balance online at home) taking them off only to put them back on later on. Maybe someone hacked their system, or are they the hackers? From this day forward I will NEVER again have another one of these cards. Once my good opinion about a business is lost, it is lost forever.
I read about a class action lawsuit that was filed against Green Dot for securities fraud back in 2012 (it seems they lied and ripped off their investors too). She told me I could have entered in a wrong digit in my social security which may have happened accidentally.
I asked if it was permanent or if they could further verify my account. She told me it was permanent until I purchased another card and spent the remaining money. I asked if it was even worth buying another one because they would just deny it again and she told me that hopefully it will verify. This really makes me mad because I put 200 dollars on it and I have to spend all of it to buy a new card. She could not provide any evidence on why my account did not pass verification. It is so ridiculous how they do not have to provide any info on why my account was denied. I read all the bad reviews before my purchase by did not believe they were real until now. I have read complaints about many people who cannot access their money. Then I just read a article where someone from Green Dot said "the problem was only in checking your balance." That is completely false and they are lying. How is it legal for an FDIC bank in 2016 to get away with this? Prepaid cards are used by mostly low income people who need a bank account but can't get a traditional account because of credit, or problems with past checking accounts. If this kind of thing was happening to people who use Chase Bank, it would be the biggest story in the country.

I purchased a Green Dot prepaid card. I had to pay a fee to load $50 onto the card. Although I don't like paying fees, that is not the complaint. The complaint I have is that after I used the money that I wanted to use from the card, I had about $8 left on the card. Months later, I forgot about the card and once I found the card, I went to check my balance. THEY TOOK THE MONEY OFF OF MY CARD AND CALLED IT A MAINTENANCE FEE. I think that this is highly inappropriate because this is my money and they shouldn't have used my money

I bought this card to simply pay for an online transaction, a one time thing. Thankfully it was ONLY a one time thing. I put in $60 to pay for a $50 charge, and was met with a $5 activation fee. Fine, I guess? Then I had to register after all this. Then TWO DAYS after my first purchase I receive multiple texts stating my balance, and that I had $0.05 cents available to use. I didn't even know WHAT this was for. I thought maybe it was for my bank or some other service, that is until I just decide to check out my balance on the card. I figure "Hey, I have at least $5 left I should use it", NO. I was hit with a "monthly charge", so thankfully I added $10 more than I needed, unknowingly by the way, because they actually took out everything as a full $9.95 charge. Before you buy a gift card, take 5 minutes to at least think about what you need, see if they have a card specifically for that, and then buy. Skip this card, there's no benefit or ease of use with this.

The only way to get through to this company is to threaten to file a complaint with the FDIC. I've been unable to access my funds since May 16, 2016, due to a system error on their behalf. Their system automatically ordered a replacement card for me, and they expect me to accept living with no money to pay expenses for "2 weeks from tomorrow." When requesting expedited shipping, they state that they cannot offer that. They say my card was ordered on Monday in the system error, and will not ship until tomorrow and that I can purchase a new card and transfer money in two days. Unfortunately, all of my money is on that "expired" card.

This card sucks. Can you say SCAM. I bought this as a Christmas gift for my daughter who is a college student in another state. The first time she went to use it the card was declined to her embarrassment in front of her friends. So in trying to call the phone number listed on the card all you get is a voice recording asking you for your social security number or you can go online and enter the same thing. I for one am not comfortable giving out my social security number to anyone. So in the end it amounts to I am out $100.00 gift to my daughter which just is so wrong, so I hope that they have enjoyed ripping my college student daughter off. It makes me feel really comfortable about the business world and I only that hope that someday I get to return the favor to them.

I bought a $25 dollar gift card at the grocery store for my 12 year old. This was in March. The website gathers far too much information for activation and then says "there's too much traffic, try again later". I finally called and waited for 25 minutes for them to tell me it's activated. It has incurred $5 per month in fees. So a $25 card that cost $4.95 to buy plus $15 in fees leaves a whopping total of $14.95 available on $29.95 spent. Lesson learned. ** them.

We've been using a Green Dot Visa for payroll deposit for about 3 years. No problems until this past week when my husband's payroll check was hijacked. We see a deposit for the amount $900 then a balance of $298. No charges to explain where $600 dollars went! When we call customer service either hangs up on us or says "we're sorry, the system is down and should be restored within a WEEK". A WEEK!!! Basically Green Dot Bank has robbed us of $600 dollars, no explanation and will give it back when they see fit! I cannot believe there is nothing we can do. When I told them "our bill need paid, we have no food in the house. It's our money. Give it back!" They hang up or say "I'm sorry. Technical difficulties." Unbelievable!

I was a loyal customer for a very long time, even recommending people to buy and use their card services, but after calling Green Dot Corporate and pretty much getting the "I do not know how long it will take" speech from the woman I was upset. Now today I am very angry. I called the corporate number and the extension number given to me yesterday, and now the extension is no longer working. I am pretty tired of being kept in the dark where it comes to my money that I work for and I had direct deposited onto their card because they promoted it would be easy and hassle free. Easy, yes, hassle free, no... not when I cannot access my account to pay bills.

Then the next day I have .09 cents balance! I used the card one time for purchase of $17.05, 3 days later my GIFT CARD is charged $7.95! I got online of course they are down for service, called on the phone same thing! Starting investing this card further. How is this company allowed to be sold as gift card. This is the biggest scam I have ever seen! What a joke of a company! They made 12.09 cents for letting me use my card one time! I contacted the card by email because I could not reach anyone of course and canceled the card! Hopefully I am now free of this hassle. Happy birthday!

I've had a card for a little over 72 hours now. It has been nothing but a nightmare since. If I could go back in time and not buy the card I certainly would. My nightmare started on the 17th of May 2016. I had to pay $3.99 to buy the card. They told me that I will be billed $9.95 at the end of the month or your first purchase. I have no problem with that. So on May 17th I received a fee monthly charge of $9.95. Okay. No problem once again. Today I check my account balance on the 16th. I see that I have received another monthly charge $9.95 so that brings us to the grand total of $19.95. So I was billed $20 for the first month. Now wait a minute. That doesn't seem right. Why did they take almost 20 US dollars from me for her first month. Did your automatic payment system malfunction? Why did you do me twice within a matter of 24 hours?
Well I'm on the website today the 18th of May. I have been trying to establish Communications company pretty much all day with no success. I'm trying to find out why they billed me $20 for her first month. Apparently I'm not the only person having this issue. They have closed all their customer service centers due to the high number of call and emails. It's obvious at this point but I'm not the only person that has been billed multiple times for the same month. I only use the card 2 times: 1 for a purchase of $2.33 which was online and at a grocery store for $1.78. On the 17th of May I loaded 60 US dollars onto the card after only two transactions and receiving the bill twice for the same month they are now telling me that I had a card balance of 39.99 u.s. dollars.
I work hard for my money and I do not appreciate cooking and untrustworthy American companies stealing people's money. Even tell you to your face that they're not going to gave it back to you and so many ways challenging you to do something about it. I need it - this money - to pay a US company money that I owe them but now I'm stuck at a brick wall. The payment that I made to them was declined due to her not being out balance on my card. So now I'm in a bad predicament. And no one Green Dot is willing to figure out what happened. They pretty much telling me it's my fault that I was billed twice for one month. That is something I have no control over. How was that my fault? I'm looking if there is a class action lawsuit to be filed against this company. If so by all means sign me up.

My daughter purchased a debit card from Green Dot. She used it twice to pay for expenses related to applying to a community college. Next, she tried to purchase items at a food store. It was declined as having insufficient funds. There was still money on the card. This card was designed (unlike a gift card) not to zero out, but to decline the entire amount if it is more than the amount left on the card and will not reveal - even to the owner - the amount remaining on the card. Therefore you must find out the balance before use or risk being declined - and publicly embarrassed - with each attempted use.
Following the instructions, I have called the number on the back of the card to obtain the balance. I have called eight times and gotten four or five different replies from various robot operators. The apparent "simple" instructions to send a text to find the correct balance did not work at all. The Green Dot Card is nothing more than a scam that preys on the poorest members of society who are unable to have banking services. I rate this company on a par with the worst payday lenders.

This card is a ripoff money hole. I feel sorry for anyone who might have to use this card as their regular credit/debit card as they are being taken advantage of.
I decided not to even use it after I saw all those fees and cancelled immediately. Luckily I only purchased it with $20 on it. I will never purchase one of these again. Do not buy this card as a gift!!! You are essential buying someone a debt, once the $6 monthly fees deplete all the money you put on it for the giftee, Green Dot will send them into collections with a $6/mo meter running! This is nothing short of a scam and I can't believe CVS and other reputable stores have these on the shelves.

Until now that is, I'm very upset, that they increased my monthly fee, without any kind of warning first of all. I went on the site to chat, and find out why? The 1st chat agent sent me to a bunch of FAQ's, really? It'd of been very simple to answer my question, and really there wouldn't have been a question if they had announced that the fee would increase?
When I logged into chat AGAIN, because there wasn't an answer to my question on their FAQ's page, I was told it was because they added features? I ask what features, and if I wasn't planning to use those features, will they just put it back to the other monthly fee? I was told, "no", everyone will be paying that fee now, and that these features were going to make the card easier to use? Well that's BS. I'm cancelling the card and going to NetSpend. They don't have half crazy fees, and it's much easier to load. It will do the same thing the Green Dot card does, and cheaper.

The next day I tried to link my banking information to the website account, so that I could transfer money directly, but it said my account still needed verification. I was having difficulty, so I called customer support. The agent I spoke to tried to tell me twice that my account was verified the day before. She then got suspicious that I was not the original account owner because my voice is male, and my name is female (I am transgendered). She asked me to spell my name, which I did, and then she just repeated that I need to verify my account. She did not ask for any other proof of identity. So I said "Thanks anyway for the help".
I then realized she probably did not know I was transgendered, so I called back to establish that. A different girl answered the phone, but already knew me because she did not waste time with phone introductory. She told me I would need to go through some of the automated prompts to prove my identity before she could help, so I agreed. It then went to an automated computer voice and said my account was banned until I could send a photo of my driver's license to Green Dot.
I complied and sent a photo of my driver's license to Green Dot. The account ban was lifted, with no apology or comment, however, the card I was using was not reusable anymore according to a customer service agent I spoke to about it. They said I would need to buy a new card. I feel I was discriminated against, and that if account security was in question then it could have been handled much more professionally than just going by the masculine sound of my voice and asking to spell my name. I used this card as a business card, thinking that if it was compromised, there would be a limited amount of damage. The first problem is the customer service is in Thailand, so no one can really give you a reasonable explanation, nor do they understand what you are trying to tell them. After having my card compromised by having someone use it 20 times at a Wal-Mart, a clear sign that it has been stolen to which any decent credit card company would have been alerted to, I called them and told them it was compromised, and told them I needed to get the money out as I was going on a business trip that required that money. The first lady told me "No problem, you can go buy another Green Dot card and transfer the funds online." 15 minutes later, when I tried to do this, it would not let me. I called back, got a supervisor on the phone, and he said "No, you cannot do it for 2 business days."
They also said that since the transactions are pending, they could not dispute them, so I waited the next day, when they were purchased and disputed them. While on the phone, I learned that I would not be able to transfer money as I was told, until the new card came. Unfortunately, I am going on a long business trip, so the money I was relying on to use for hotels, is not accessible. Now, I have no way to get to the money I put in to use, and have to wait almost a month to get it. The worst part is, I was told one thing, and then told something totally different. If you are looking for a prepaid card, don't get one. Go to a reputable bank and open a checking account. So my card was stolen. I called customer service to ask if I could transfer money from the stolen card to another Green Dot card that I have. I was informed if I cancel the card I won't be able to transfer my money for two days and it would take 10 days to receive a new one. The rep. recommended I transfer the money first and then report the card stolen. I tried to go online to transfer the money using the website. The website asked me to verify my email address by entering in the verification code from the email they sent me. I NEVER received a email. I tried several times from different devices and even changed my email address to see if that would work. It didn't.
I called customer service back to have them help me. One person told me to wait a few hours and see if it works. I waited. I called back. Another rep that barely spoke English said she doesn't know why it wasn't working. Frustrated at this point and deciding to give it 24 hours I hung up. A hour later I tried the send money feature online and found out that the last CSR had canceled my card on my behalf without my permission. That is fraud! You cannot just make changes on someone account without their explicit permission! I finally spoke with a supervisor after having called 6 times and she said that I told them to cancel the card. (Which I did not.)
I know I didn't because they don't even have the correct mailing address for me and I wanted to pay for expedited shipping. No one verified my mailing address. There is no way to cancel the order for the "new" card right away. I have to wait 2 days to even have them send me a new card to the right address. This isn't even the whole story of my day today. This is only part of the nightmare Green Dot has put me through. The customer service is horrible. As soon as I get another card I'm getting my money off of it and cutting it up and getting my direct deposit switched over to NetSpend. At least I know I can access my money if this ever happens again! Scam! Scam! Scam!

My credit card was stolen and had over $500 taken off card. I reported as soon I knew it was gone. They never reported it stolen or the amount off card. I faxed, emailed and sent certified mail the dispute forms needed but every time I call they say they don't have it. I have NEVER gotten any amount back from Green Dot whenever a "dispute" took place. No matter what I send or how many times I call, they don't return a dime. So the thief that used it just gets away with it and Green Dot could care less. I hope someone opens a class action suit for Green Dot basically stealing people's money.

So, I've used this card for like a year, my reason was because my checking acct was compromised. So, I had to get my direct deposit redirected immediately. Ran into a lot of problems using this card at gas pumps, as well as in some stores. So, fast forward I'm relocating to another state, and of course I'm using the card in unfamiliar territory. So, they put a freeze on my card. So now here I am in the middle of nowhere and now no access to my money. So I call them verify that it's me using the card. Let them know I was traveling and me having access to my money was important. So supposedly the free zero was lifted, and I could use my card after 12 midnight or something. So, agent that time I tried to use the card again and still declined.
So I called customer service again and got into a pissing match explaining to them that I couldn't use my card or get any money, so somehow get another representative on the line and instead of her fixing the issue with my card she cancelled my card. So now if there was any opportunity for me to have access to my money it is totally gone at this point until I get another card. Now let's not forget the fact I'm traveling. They have to mail the card to me. I can't go anywhere to get any money and the card is going to take 7 to 10 days and all of my money is in their account. So because I was a little hostile with the representative now I cannot talk to anyone about my money, I can't access my funds, and I'm waiting on a car that I'm not sure is even coming and I'm not sure whom I could call at this time to see how to get my money out this account.
And due to the fact that use my social for this card every time you call you have to put that in, so they flag my social so I can't talk to anyone. So right now I'm just waiting to see if I will get a card, if not I will be contacting a lawyer to see how to get my money. Let alone I have bills that are coming and other things that I must pay for it in order to survive and I have no access. This is the worst card ever. I would not recommend it to anyone and their customer service is the worst as well, so if you can avoid it or get something else do not get a Green Dot or Walmart card.

I bought this card at Wal-Mart so that I could do online transactions without having to use my regular checking account. There are so many online restrictions on the card that I can't even approve an international charge. We are remodeling our house and there are some light fixtures that I wanted to purchase, but they are in China. This card would not allow it. So I was charged the $1.95 to purchase the card and they will probably also charge the monthly fee of $7.95 before closing my card. Didn't offer any solutions or offer my money back.

I got the card not even 24 hours ago. I wanted to buy a gift card but didn't have enough and couldn't find any Amazon gift cards. I had just the perfect amount for a Green Dot card. I got that so I could purchase what I wanted off of Amazon and then hopefully be done. I didn't know it wasn't a gift card and it said on the box that there are "No Commitments" and "No Obligations". The thing I didn't realize is that it was a debit card. When I started registering it online I saw that they needed my social security. I tried to get the woman at the store to refund it but she said it wasn't possible so I continued knowing I wasn't getting my money back.
Now I am reading all these reviews about talking to customer service and I can't even get through. They are declining that my Social Security number, that I have right in front of me, is not correct. I have tried countless times through countless ways but it always ends up being another 10-20 minutes wasted fighting with the automated voice. I would love to be able to speak with a human. I did file a complaint with the BBB about it. I just want to cancel my card. They can keep the last $1 something I have on there. I just want to be able to sleep. I can't now knowing I am probably going to end up owing money to them because of their scams. Someone needs to get them shut down and all the money returned to everyone they have hurt.

They are now holding roughly $3,000 of my money and nobody can tell me where it is.
They said the funds would be sent back to the IRS, and I have contacted them numerous times and nothing has been returned. Buyer Beware. The negative feedback about this company all over the internet is mind boggling. I was nearly defrauded by a scam and instructed to purchase Green Dot Prepaid Visa Cards. I caught on at the last moment and did not hand over the Visa cards to the crooks. However I requested a refund on the cards I loaded my hard earned money on and am having difficulty getting it. Green Dot wants me to send receipts, copies of the Visa cards and my ID to a P.O. Box with no phone number or a contact person.
The ironic thing is that if I had handed over the Visa cards to the crooks the money would have been long gone with no way of getting it back. Now Green Dot has my money and according to all the negative reviews on the internet it looks like I may be in for a long haul. At any rate if you get a suspicious call from the IRS or Jury Duty and the crooks ask for Green Dot Visa cards immediately hang up. This in itself should be a good reason not to buy Green Dot Prepaid Visa Cards.

I went to deposit my work check today 4/14/16 and it automatically said THEY chose the standard fee for me and I would have to wait till 4/21/16 to get my money. When I called, nobody could help me or explain why they did that. It was a payroll check, not a personal check.
After getting nowhere I got so frustrated I told them to close my account but not before asking the woman if I can take my check to the bank and cash it. She said yes. Guess what, SHE LIED! Took the check and the bank declined it. Tried to call them back and can't get customer service cause my acct is closed. Took me 45 minutes to speak with a live person. Whatever country it is can't speak English and omg don't ask to speak with a supervisor they'll hang up on you every time. I had to call six times and five times I was hanged up on. Finally I spoke with a supervisor supposedly. He then told me he was expediting my card so I should receive it either 5 or less business days. Due to my card being compromised. I informed him my bills are due, I need to pay my bills I don't have five days.
As of right now it's been a week and my bills are past due and I'm about to get paid again with no card. Thank God it's just me I have to worry about. If I had a child this would break me. If it wasn't for my friends I'd go hungry cause I have no money for food because all my money is this stupid ass account and card where I can't use my money. I've used Green Dot here and there to load a card and buy something online but when I thought I would use it monthly something happened. If you auto deposit $1000 or make 30 purchases a month the fee is waived. I made 30 charges in March of 2014. Soon at the beginning of April I received a notice that the fee went up to $7.95 from $5.95. You know it's not always easy to keep track if you make 30 purchases. Much less have the fee raised. But get this! When I got another card to load because it made me mad they did that, THE NEW CARD HAD A FEE OF 5.95 AGAIN! It looks like sticking with one card and staying on top of your 30 purchases is NOT encouraged! On top of that when I tried to access my account ** I couldn't. When I requested a new passcode it wouldn't work. When I asked for another it wouldn't give me one! I guess ** will become ** 1, 2, 3 & 4 again.

This company is a joke. My son was excited to use money from his first official job to buy this pre-paid card to buy a game online. What a headache. He tried to activate it online and it kept saying invalid card. We even tried to call customer service about 7 times and you can never talk to a person. It kept asking for his card number and the security number. It then said the card was not valid. I made my son take it back to Dollar General where he purchased it and they felt bad but were unable to get him a refund. Finally, after at least 10 attempts over the hours we got it to go to the next page where it wanted ALL kinds of information including my son's social security number and very personal questions to set up his "security questions". He finally got it to go through. Then when he went to make the purchase online of his game, it was denied. Needless to say it was a nightmare. He did get his game eventually.
Oh, then out of the $40 card, they took out $8 for their fees not counting the upfront fees he paid. They also explained on the brochure that they will be sharing his information to an extent with all kinds of people. Now I am really worried about what will happen to his credit report and what kind of things he will get in the mail. Needless to say, use another pre-paid card! This one is terrible! Check reviews on Google and Amazon as well. Seriously, I don't know how they are still in business.

We are sorry your son had trouble activating the card. When I filed the complaint, they reversed the charges but immediately cancelled my current card WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! I have a direct deposit posting to my card in 3 days and a down payment on my car being withdrawn on that same day. Basically because I stood up for ~$32 worth of theft (which I personally believe to be instigated by Green Dot), I'm having my account held ransom until I get a new card. I asked the customer service rep what she thinks I should do to get access to my money and she told me to get ANOTHER card and transfer money to it! Are you KIDDING ME???
If I can't figure out how to survive AND make the down payment on my car before the new card arrives, I will very likely have no money to eat or put gas in my car, my brand new car will be repossessed, causing me to be unable to make it to work -- and likely fired. This smells like a major flaw/scam in Green Dot's banking practices and I will NOT take it! Someone PLEASE CONTACT ME. Re: class action lawsuit. This qualifies as an unreasonable hold on funds.

After several unsuccessful attempts to tell them that the card was already registered by someone else before she purchased it, they still told her she would not be refunded.
