I discovered two days ago that my card was somehow cloned and used in the Bristol, Va Target for 422.00 dollars. Persons unknown also used the card at a marathon gas station also in Bristol, Va. After speaking with a loss prevention person at Target, it was discovered the persons unknown had several cards in different person's name. Based upon hundreds of complaints online, it would seem the government would get involved and force Green Dot to use more secure systems. I had over $500.00 dollars of my hard earned money removed. I did not Green Dot customer service was not in the United States.
On several attempts, Green Dot employees gave me the runaround and even disconnected my phone call. Once I spoke with a fraud/dispute person, she told me to download form and take a picture to return to their department. I have never heard of a department of this magnitude not have a fax number. My review is aimed at my return of over 500 dollars and the United States government get involved with the aforementioned security breaches. I would love for Outgoing President Obama to get involved to prevent other customers from experiencing this situation. It's not so bad these people took my money but victimized a second time by the lack of effort and concern from Green Dot Prepaid Cards. I would have to say buyer beware. If someone can help me, please call me or email me.

I purchased my Green Dot card for direct deposit. They have allowed my card to be fraudulently used with someone else's name and my card number for a payment. When I disputed the amount customer service was extremely rude and automatically cut me off from all of my money without my permission or request. I have no way of eating lunch or getting back and forth to work... they won't even give me the information I need to dispute the transaction with the company that took my money... offered me no credit to my account for inconvenience and no resolution. This is the worst experience ever. I would warn anyone considering using this service to please DON'T DO IT. This is not my first issue with this company but I promise it's definitely my last.

My card was cancelled, much like everyone else I just read about. No notification, no approval from me. I now am locked out of my online account, I have been blocked apparently from calling the customer service line, which of course keeps asking me for a card number that I do not have. I have no money, no gas, no family or friends to borrow from. As the rep suggested, just me and my kids and of course I get paid tomorrow. She told me I could expedite my shipping but then I could not get back into the automated system, which from what I have read seems to be common practice. I am in tears and I have no idea when I will be able to access my money. I cannot get to work or my kids to school and I don't know what to do. This is the worst service I have ever seen and I really need some help.

So I bought a card and loaded it with 60$. Then I filled out their extensive form with the personal info they asked for. I had to share with them more info than I wanted. I never wanted to give them my SSN or my telephone number. I don't use a street address for mail and they would not accept a P.O. box so I will never get the check refund. The temp card says it only works with electronic uses, yet when I tried to use the card to buy in game currency the card was declined. Not sure what was wrong.
I went to their site and talked with a person on the chat. The representative said I couldn't use my card for electronic purposes especially for games. They suggested I use it for a different company, yet the only reason I bought the card was to buy in game currency for a game I like to play. They said the card doesn't work with facebook games or with other online games. This annoys me as the only online things it says in the terms of use that I cant use the card for is gambling or games of chance. Which by that means that I should be able to use the card for any game that is not gambling. The rep was not helpful, and the only thing they could suggest was don't use the card and try to get the refund check which won't refund the 5$ I spent to get the card or the tax, or the fact that the check will never get here since they won't accept a po box and my street address doesn't work with mail.

Looks like my situation is no different than the THOUSANDS of complaints on here so there is no point in giving the details. Point is, this is the WORST COMPANY EVER. Got scammed on my first card purchase from them. Hard lesson learned. Will NEVER give them any money ever again. To anyone looking to buy a Green Dot Gold Card, have more fun with your cash. I would recommend lighting it on fire, throwing it off a bridge, or shredding it.

I have the card for a long time, always a problem paying certain bills. No customer service. Basically they don't understand what you're saying or they hang up. My card was expired. I loaded the card for bills to pay. Now it's stuck on there for 2 weeks. They locked and blocked me from taking my money off. Now I will be getting shut off on some things at my house tomorrow. Thanks for the help. I have to wait for new card 2 weeks. I never asked for them to do that. I only wanted to pull my money off of it... ugh... never again.

I have been using Green Dot for approximately 6 years. I recently had problems with my bank so I have my pay from both jobs direct deposit onto my Green Dot card. My card expired 4/1/2016, called to see where my updated card was and was told that it was mailed out the 3rd week of March. I explained to them that I have not received it and to mail another one out. On April 4th called again because I still did not have my card, mind you rent is due. Called again on the 8th and was told the card was mailed out on the 6th. Ok so I wait, oh and between all of this, I am completely stress and end up in the hospital with chest pain and the diagnosis was stress.
Now I am calling them about every other day regarding this, to either let me transfer the rest of my money to another card I purchased. They informed me that I could not transfer any more money because there is a limit on how much I can transfer a month. I will now jump to today 4/25/2016. I spoke to someone again and was told they would expedite another card to me and I should receive it today 4/29/2016. No card still and FedEx has no record of anything being delivered to my address. So Green Dot says they will send out another card and should be receiving no later than 5/6/2016. I explained to her how am I to pay rent, pay bills, buy food or get to work because I have no funds, they have it all.

So my card was stolen. I called customer service to ask if I could transfer money from the stolen card to another Green Dot card that I have. I was informed if I cancel the card I won't be able to transfer my money for two days and it would take 10 days to receive a new one. The rep. recommended I transfer the money first and then report the card stolen. I tried to go online to transfer the money using the website. The website asked me to verify my email address by entering in the verification code from the email they sent me. I NEVER received a email. I tried several times from different devices and even changed my email address to see if that would work. It didn't.
I called customer service back to have them help me. One person told me to wait a few hours and see if it works. I waited. I called back. Another rep that barely spoke English said she doesn't know why it wasn't working. Frustrated at this point and deciding to give it 24 hours I hung up. A hour later I tried the send money feature online and found out that the last CSR had canceled my card on my behalf without my permission. That is fraud! You cannot just make changes on someone account without their explicit permission! I finally spoke with a supervisor after having called 6 times and she said that I told them to cancel the card. (Which I did not.)
I know I didn't because they don't even have the correct mailing address for me and I wanted to pay for expedited shipping. No one verified my mailing address. There is no way to cancel the order for the "new" card right away. I have to wait 2 days to even have them send me a new card to the right address. This isn't even the whole story of my day today. This is only part of the nightmare Green Dot has put me through. The customer service is horrible. As soon as I get another card I'm getting my money off of it and cutting it up and getting my direct deposit switched over to NetSpend. At least I know I can access my money if this ever happens again! Scam! Scam! Scam!

My credit card was stolen and had over $500 taken off card. I reported as soon I knew it was gone. They never reported it stolen or the amount off card. I faxed, emailed and sent certified mail the dispute forms needed but every time I call they say they don't have it. I have NEVER gotten any amount back from Green Dot whenever a "dispute" took place. No matter what I send or how many times I call, they don't return a dime. So the thief that used it just gets away with it and Green Dot could care less. I hope someone opens a class action suit for Green Dot basically stealing people's money.

So, I've used this card for like a year, my reason was because my checking acct was compromised. So, I had to get my direct deposit redirected immediately. Ran into a lot of problems using this card at gas pumps, as well as in some stores. So, fast forward I'm relocating to another state, and of course I'm using the card in unfamiliar territory. So, they put a freeze on my card. So now here I am in the middle of nowhere and now no access to my money. So I call them verify that it's me using the card. Let them know I was traveling and me having access to my money was important. So supposedly the free zero was lifted, and I could use my card after 12 midnight or something. So, agent that time I tried to use the card again and still declined.
So I called customer service again and got into a pissing match explaining to them that I couldn't use my card or get any money, so somehow get another representative on the line and instead of her fixing the issue with my card she cancelled my card. So now if there was any opportunity for me to have access to my money it is totally gone at this point until I get another card. Now let's not forget the fact I'm traveling. They have to mail the card to me. I can't go anywhere to get any money and the card is going to take 7 to 10 days and all of my money is in their account. So because I was a little hostile with the representative now I cannot talk to anyone about my money, I can't access my funds, and I'm waiting on a car that I'm not sure is even coming and I'm not sure whom I could call at this time to see how to get my money out this account.
And due to the fact that use my social for this card every time you call you have to put that in, so they flag my social so I can't talk to anyone. So right now I'm just waiting to see if I will get a card, if not I will be contacting a lawyer to see how to get my money. Let alone I have bills that are coming and other things that I must pay for it in order to survive and I have no access. This is the worst card ever. I would not recommend it to anyone and their customer service is the worst as well, so if you can avoid it or get something else do not get a Green Dot or Walmart card.

I bought this card at Wal-Mart so that I could do online transactions without having to use my regular checking account. There are so many online restrictions on the card that I can't even approve an international charge. We are remodeling our house and there are some light fixtures that I wanted to purchase, but they are in China. This card would not allow it. So I was charged the $1.95 to purchase the card and they will probably also charge the monthly fee of $7.95 before closing my card. Didn't offer any solutions or offer my money back.

I got the card not even 24 hours ago. I wanted to buy a gift card but didn't have enough and couldn't find any Amazon gift cards. I had just the perfect amount for a Green Dot card. I got that so I could purchase what I wanted off of Amazon and then hopefully be done. I didn't know it wasn't a gift card and it said on the box that there are "No Commitments" and "No Obligations". The thing I didn't realize is that it was a debit card. When I started registering it online I saw that they needed my social security. I tried to get the woman at the store to refund it but she said it wasn't possible so I continued knowing I wasn't getting my money back.
Now I am reading all these reviews about talking to customer service and I can't even get through. They are declining that my Social Security number, that I have right in front of me, is not correct. I have tried countless times through countless ways but it always ends up being another 10-20 minutes wasted fighting with the automated voice. I would love to be able to speak with a human. I did file a complaint with the BBB about it. I just want to cancel my card. They can keep the last $1 something I have on there. I just want to be able to sleep. I can't now knowing I am probably going to end up owing money to them because of their scams. Someone needs to get them shut down and all the money returned to everyone they have hurt.

Got the Green Dot Visa card as a reward for volunteer work. I can't use the card at all unless activated. Ok, no problem... except... You MUST give personal information. Soc number, address, birth date, and so on. Why do I need my social security number on a freaking gift card!? Seriously!? You can't get anyone to help you with anything on the support lines, only computerized garbage or up you get hung up on. This is the saddest excuse for a gift card and I will never, NEVER use this company again! SAVE AND PROTECT YOUR MONEY!!!

My taxes were deposited via TurboTax to my Green Dot account on February 24th. I was able to make a few transactions, and then my card was locked due to suspicious activity. I was requested by Green Dot to verify my identity. I sent them a copy of my identification twice. Green Dot said they were unable to verify my identity and close my account without my permission. They are now holding roughly $3,000 of my money and nobody can tell me where it is.
They said the funds would be sent back to the IRS, and I have contacted them numerous times and nothing has been returned. I have sent a letter of inquiry via the IRS to Green Dot and have no response. If anyone else is having an issue like this something needs to be done. This company is an absolute scam and needs to be held accountable.

Buyer Beware. The negative feedback about this company all over the internet is mind boggling. I was nearly defrauded by a scam and instructed to purchase Green Dot Prepaid Visa Cards. I caught on at the last moment and did not hand over the Visa cards to the crooks. However I requested a refund on the cards I loaded my hard earned money on and am having difficulty getting it. Green Dot wants me to send receipts, copies of the Visa cards and my ID to a P.O. Box with no phone number or a contact person.
The ironic thing is that if I had handed over the Visa cards to the crooks the money would have been long gone with no way of getting it back. Now Green Dot has my money and according to all the negative reviews on the internet it looks like I may be in for a long haul. At any rate if you get a suspicious call from the IRS or Jury Duty and the crooks ask for Green Dot Visa cards immediately hang up. This in itself should be a good reason not to buy Green Dot Prepaid Visa Cards.

Have been with Green Dot for 3 years. For the past few months I have been using check by phone deposit. It use to give me the option of express deposit for a $5.95 fee or standard deposit (wait 5 business days) for a .95 fee. I went to deposit my work check today 4/14/16 and it automatically said THEY chose the standard fee for me and I would have to wait till 4/21/16 to get my money. When I called, nobody could help me or explain why they did that. It was a payroll check, not a personal check.
After getting nowhere I got so frustrated I told them to close my account but not before asking the woman if I can take my check to the bank and cash it. She said yes. Guess what, SHE LIED! Took the check and the bank declined it. Tried to call them back and can't get customer service cause my acct is closed. When I do speak to someone they say they need to transfer me to someone else and I get the automated system and CANT GET CUSTOMER SERVICE! So where is my money if my acct is closed and I can't cash my check!!! Going to talk to a lawyer tomorrow. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. If I could I wouldn't give them any stars at all. They are such a scam. I had their Walmart card and had my paycheck loaded on there. I went to go use my card wasn't able to. I thought maybe my money wasn't clear yet. Tried to pay my phone bill it was declined. I then called the customer service number, hahaha what a joke that was. Took me 45 minutes to speak with a live person. Whatever country it is can't speak English and omg don't ask to speak with a supervisor they'll hang up on you every time. I had to call six times and five times I was hanged up on. Finally I spoke with a supervisor supposedly. He then told me he was expediting my card so I should receive it either 5 or less business days. Due to my card being compromised. I informed him my bills are due, I need to pay my bills I don't have five days.
As of right now it's been a week and my bills are past due and I'm about to get paid again with no card. Thank God it's just me I have to worry about. If I had a child this would break me. If it wasn't for my friends I'd go hungry cause I have no money for food because all my money is this stupid ass account and card where I can't use my money. Then they had the nerve to take 5 dollars for monthly charges. I called again to complain my card wasn't there and to put back my 5 dollars, no card, no use, no ** 5 dollars. I'm so trying to keep my composure and trust me this review right here is as sweet as pie. Those overseas retards don't know customer service, I'm in customer service on the phones all day and if they were here they would all be fired from my company. Smh.

I've used Green Dot here and there to load a card and buy something online but when I thought I would use it monthly something happened. If you auto deposit $1000 or make 30 purchases a month the fee is waived. I made 30 charges in March of 2014. Soon at the beginning of April I received a notice that the fee went up to $7.95 from $5.95. You know it's not always easy to keep track if you make 30 purchases. Much less have the fee raised. But get this! When I got another card to load because it made me mad they did that, THE NEW CARD HAD A FEE OF 5.95 AGAIN! It looks like sticking with one card and staying on top of your 30 purchases is NOT encouraged! On top of that when I tried to access my account ** I couldn't. When I requested a new passcode it wouldn't work. When I asked for another it wouldn't give me one! I guess ** will become ** 1, 2, 3 & 4 again.

This company is a joke. My son was excited to use money from his first official job to buy this pre-paid card to buy a game online. What a headache. He tried to activate it online and it kept saying invalid card. We even tried to call customer service about 7 times and you can never talk to a person. It kept asking for his card number and the security number. It then said the card was not valid. I made my son take it back to Dollar General where he purchased it and they felt bad but were unable to get him a refund. Finally, after at least 10 attempts over the hours we got it to go to the next page where it wanted ALL kinds of information including my son's social security number and very personal questions to set up his "security questions". He finally got it to go through. Then when he went to make the purchase online of his game, it was denied. Needless to say it was a nightmare. He did get his game eventually.
Oh, then out of the $40 card, they took out $8 for their fees not counting the upfront fees he paid. They also explained on the brochure that they will be sharing his information to an extent with all kinds of people. Now I am really worried about what will happen to his credit report and what kind of things he will get in the mail. Needless to say, use another pre-paid card! This one is terrible! Check reviews on Google and Amazon as well. Seriously, I don't know how they are still in business.

We are sorry your son had trouble activating the card. Green Dot Bank supplies prepaid debit cards that function like traditional banks debit card, meaning we do need our customers personal info to activate an account for them. When I filed the complaint, they reversed the charges but immediately cancelled my current card WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! I have a direct deposit posting to my card in 3 days and a down payment on my car being withdrawn on that same day. Basically because I stood up for ~$32 worth of theft (which I personally believe to be instigated by Green Dot), I'm having my account held ransom until I get a new card. I asked the customer service rep what she thinks I should do to get access to my money and she told me to get ANOTHER card and transfer money to it! Are you KIDDING ME???
If I can't figure out how to survive AND make the down payment on my car before the new card arrives, I will very likely have no money to eat or put gas in my car, my brand new car will be repossessed, causing me to be unable to make it to work -- and likely fired. This smells like a major flaw/scam in Green Dot's banking practices and I will NOT take it! Someone PLEASE CONTACT ME. Re: class action lawsuit. This qualifies as an unreasonable hold on funds.

Don't use their cards when trying to cancel the card with no resolve.

Once you activate a card and have the personalized card mailed, the monthly service charge begins. This information is stated on the outside packaging prior to purchase and is stated during activation.

My wife purchased and deposited money into a Green Dot Visa card last week and tried to register it immediately after purchasing it to pay a bill. After calling Green Dot to resolve the issue, they told her the card was registered in someone else's name and would not give her money back. After several unsuccessful attempts to tell them that the card was already registered by someone else before she purchased it, they still told her she would not be refunded. In my opinion, I think Green Dot is pre-registering the cards under different names before a customer purchases it and make it hard for them to register it in their own name.

If you feel you were the victim of a scam involving one of our products, you should consider contacting your local police department for help.
Were sorry that this happened to you and your wife.

We purchased a card for our teenager who was excited to be able to use her money to purchase things online. The card arrived in the mail today and I tried to load it from our 25 years + bank account/debit card. The system would not allow me even after entering all of the correct info so I called them as it requested. The foreign sounding man refused to verify my identity even with my SSN. He wants me to send him "documentation" so I have cancelled the card. Total cost to learn a lesson for us, about 20 bucks in misc fees. NEVER USE THIS SERVICE.

Hey Kerri, we cannot speak to specific block on the account but if we detect unusual activity then we may request further identifying documents from our customer. And if the card was in your teenagers name then we wouldn't be able to verify your info, it can only be for the actual card holder. Were sorry for the experience you had with our products.

I signed up with the Green Dot at the beginning of February so that I can receive my tax refund on that card and it is now going into April and I have not received the card yet. I have provided my address numerous times and still have not received my card nor my tax refund. When I call to speak with a supervisor the agent states that they are the supervisor and states that they do not have a BBB nor a account manager. Worst mistake I ever made was signing up with this service. Do not recommend to anyone.

For the card not being received, we recommend you call our support number on the back of your card and have them send you a new one.
For the tax return, we cannot speak as to when the IRS will deposit a tax return onto your account. We recommend you go to the IRS website and track the exact date they plan to deposit.

My husband I were given a generous gift card as a wedding gift in November of 2014. When I used the card for the first time, yesterday, I found that the card had all of $26 and change available on it. I called Green Dot this morning to find out that the company charges a whopping $5.95 per MONTH to use their card! They claim it is a debit card (fine and good). So, those who have poor credit and can't get a debit card, unknowingly get one of these cards to use and find out they are being bilked $5.95 a month. Nowhere on the card is this charge listed. RIP OFF! We were given several gift cards, this is the only one that charges such an exorbitant fee (if any at all!)

Never once used the card. I finally 2 months after purchasing the card decided to load $20 and tried to charge on e-net. I only got this card because I don't like to use my accounts over the web fear of fraud etc. This is why I bought the card to allow purchases for my teenager. $7.95 maintenance fee monthly, come to find out not the amount agreed. It cost me $4.94 plus tax to load the $20. A little high for loading a prepaid card but I thought it good for my son to understand the full experience of having a card and being responsible. They decided since I had the card, never used remember, they charged me those 2 months, leaving me $8.10 out of the $20.
The saddest part was dealing with customer service REP Jayar, Employee #** did not speak clear English and continued to repeat same info avoiding my remarks and questions, also continued to interrupt me. Very poor training on staff I suppose. End results my son did not get the game download and I was treated unprofessionally and ripped off $11.90 plus the 4.95 to load. Even if the fee was 7.95 per month the math does not add up... Hard lesson for me to learn, I wrote this hoping this will avoid it happening to others. Thank you for your time.

Were sorry your son wasn't able to buy the game.
The moment the temp card is activated its eligible for being charged the monthly service fee. This information is displayed on the packaging and is stated by our activation hotline as part of the process to activate a card.

All I had left was 100 bucks to my name. I called countless times cursing everybody out. It just didn't make sense. How could my personal information that I've had for all 21 years of my life not be verified.
They told me it couldn't be processed and they would send me a refund check. Then the reps told me that they could not transfer me to a supervisor! I would have to accept the refund checks which wouldn't come for 2 weeks. I cried and cried on the phone. Then I proceeded to ask what about my information couldn't be verified and they told me they're unable to tell me. Day 2 of me being stuck in Puerto Rico with no food or money. Had to call my ex-boyfriend and beg him to pay for my flight. All I know is if my 300 doesn't come in the mail I'll be on the next flight to Pasadena

I go to check on my balance on my card and notice that they had been charging me 7.95 a month to my card without any knowledge of anything, not even a letter in the mail to let me know that they will be charging me this now every month, instead of the 3.95 that I had knowledge of knowing when I got the card! So I call them to let them know this is wrong and that I would no longer have any of my business with them anymore whatsoever! The lady informs me she will take the charge off. lol. I giggle and say "that's fine but as long as I'm being charged this to keep the card a month this will be your last 8 dollars that you get from me!!"
I think it's sad and WRONG that they did not let me know anything about this and had been taking my money every month! I'm a single parent and have many struggles with 2 girls and 8 a month is a lot to me!! So for GREENDOT you will no longer get my service and I have also signed up with another card that charges a fee of a 1 "dollar" to keep your card!!! So GREENDOT you can keep your card cause that's the last dollar you will be getting from me!!

Well, it has been almost a month now and since I loaded the money onto Green Dot Prepaid Card they have two (pending) transactions that have been closed now since Feb 15th of this year. I have done everything every supervisor has asked me to do then nothing after being promised a date. Countless hours and I mean hours on the phone being tossed around from agent to agent... none of which had a clue. They would say one thing then say "I am sorry to hear that. We need this document." The one the last supervisor said they see it and the money will be refunded in two business days... still nothing. Now customer service just hangs up on me and so does the corporate office... they do the same. I just don't get it.
I would like some type of repayment for their damage they have done and the mental anguish they caused me through this whole thing. How can they do this with my money. Someone needs to help stop this kind of business to run in America. Maybe we should class action sue them together. Contact me please if you feel the same... some kind of justice. They have been so rude to even laugh at me as I was upset because I needed the money.
Updated 4/26/2016 - The last time I wrote was just about a month ago when Green Dot had my transactions as (pending) two amounts: $268.00 and $300.00 both due to a hold from a car rental on February 11, 2016... The transaction was closed on February 15, 2016, when I returned the car. But they never returned the money, even after endless calls to the agents claiming to help. Once a supervisor by the name of Marcy, badge number **, said she had seen that I sent in the proper form: A RELEASE OF FUNDS sent by the United Auto Rental company out of Ontario, Ca. So she reversed the funds back into my account... giving me two confirmation numbers.
First the case number in reference to the pending funds is: ** and the confirmation numbers to the money being returned, this was sometime in the middle of March that Marcy did this for me (supposed to but never received) for the $268.00 - ** and the $300.00 - **. When I call to ask why the money was never returned I just get the runaround... but as shocking as it may seem I log on now to the website and not only is my money STILL not returned, but they have removed the pending transactions completely off my record history. My account is still showing a negative balance. Even more now because I am another month without any funds in the account.
You have no idea how much stress this has caused me... not to mention I had no money for medicine and it even affected my job... and the utilities have been shut off and late fees have been billed to me... I just want justice or for someone to help me. It isn't right that a company in the United States of America can get away with this kind of Criminal act and everyone just turn their head. I will go all the way to the top. I will get the government involved if I have to. The News channels I will make someone hear me. I need some help. I am an American. I have my rights and I want Justice to be served. If you need more proof I have it all. Please contact me by email or by phone ** or ** after 7 pm. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Can't even return it after purchase from the store you buy it from, even if you don't leave the store or open the box. Then came the nightmare process of actually registering the card. Wife tried... failed. The store clerk tried to help... failed. So my wife in Chicago, needs her husband, in California, who needed the money to mail out the phone, now has to register this card.
60 minutes, a pissed off wife, an angry clerk, an out of state husband, later, and it's finally registered. Went to finally give my sister money from this card so I could mail it the phone and guess what, it's a pending transaction. Now we're told to wait an hour for the process to clear. 6 hours later and still no changed. After hunting the net for this dang company's customer of course is hidden and took yet another 30 minutes to track down. Call them up, got them to turn it into active status. As I was about to hang up the person on the phone asked me what I was planning to do with the card. He then told me it is NOT possible to use this card to transfer funds. So now my whole day wasted and got not one thing accomplished. To top it off, now my wife has to use this friggin card just to get our money back. What a God awful experience.

I recently started receiving my paycheck from work via direct deposit to my Green Dot card. I went ahead and even got the VIP membership. All has been fine, until one day while withdrawing cash from the ATM, I noticed that my balance was incorrect. I went online and checked the recent transactions. There were 5 unauthorized transactions on my account! All of the transactions were made on the same day, and two of them were at Victoria's Secret in two different cities! My loss was a total of $797.33. I was so upset. Rent was due, bills needed to be paid, the kids have to be fed, and I worked hard for my money! For someone to have access to your card, while it is in your possession, is SCARY.
I called Green Dot, had to cancel my card, (which was an inconvenience because I no longer had access to the money that wasn't taken from me) and wait for a replacement card. Since the transactions were "pending" and not "posted", I had to wait and monitor my account to see if any of them posted before I was able to dispute the transactions. Monitoring my account the next few days, I noticed that some of the transactions that were unauthorized had posted, and were still pending and my funds were taken both times! I was also double charged for the withdrawal I made that made me notice my balance was incorrect in the first place.
I have tried talking to several different agents, and whenever I request to speak with a manager or supervisor, I am told "they are just going to tell you the same thing" or that they are a manager. I screenshot my account statement on 3/8/16. When I access my account online from Green Dot, my transaction history is completely different, balances are different, and they are telling me that I was only charged once. This is really frustrating. I am now out of $1300 to this company, and they are not assuring me that I will get it back. The agent I spoke with earlier even hung up in my face. I am now at my wit's end and ready to seek legal action.

I ordered this card a few months back. I finally decided to use it on 3/7/2016 by sending a money transfer from my Facebook account to my GoBank MasterCard. The transfer went smooth on Facebook's end. However, GoBank received the money, posted it to my account then put a security hold on my card and blocked it. I called in and was "Promised and Guaranteed" if I would provide detailed receipts of the transfer and the account in which I used for the transfer, I would have access to my money. That didn't happen. I have spoken to 17 different "GoBank Supervisors" for countless hours over the last 4 days and they all have misled me. I have been told over and over again that their "Investigations Team" was working to resolve the issue because my deposit showed up as a "Refund" instead of a "Deposit"!
Therefore, since they couldn't verify the original outbound transaction of $600.00, they couldn't allow me access to a "Refunded deposit". I explained and sent receipts showing exactly how the money was sent etc. They all promised to resolve, call me and release the block within 24 hours of the call. That hasn't happened one time in four days! I have continuously called and called and begged as well as pleaded with them to release my money. To no surprise at this point, they are still investigating this matter. I have looked them up in hopes to find a phone number to speak with someone with authority who can make a decision to either open the card up or close the account and refund my money. That has resulted in more agitation because NO ONE at Green Dot is willing to help either.
I have researched FDIC rules and information on this bank and was FLOORED to see their financials online. They only sow LESS than a million dollars for the entire year this far! They were originally opened in 1978 as Bonneville Bank in Provo, UT (which is still in operation as a "Community Bank" today). Maybe everyone with an issue should blow up their phone to see if we can get results!?! My next step this weekend is to do exactly that. I will contact that bank as well as go forward with filing a complaint with BBB and FDIC. I will file a claim against their insurance if possible. I will keep everyone posted on this progress. Please let me know if anyone has found a human being and phone number where issues as my own can be resolved!

Days go by before customer service gave me a claim number for my case. After sending copies of the receipt along with photos of the unscratched, unused card I was to wait 2 days while they investigated the matter. I called back on the 3rd.
I called Green Dot corporate to check on the status and the lady said that their investigation concluded that I had given the information on the card to someone and that person was then able to register it and use it. She said "the results of our investigation are final. Sorry we will not be able to refund your money." I said "the investigation was wrong" and then I asked for the name of the person who registered the card. Since I supposedly gave the information to someone I know, then giving me the name shouldn't be a secret. She refused even after accidentally calling me Mr. Smith twice. As in John Smith? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
They block everyone else's accounts for suspicious activity and let this one with all of the red flags go unnoticed? I asked "Why are you protecting the criminal's identity? This is why they do it! A couple of years ago I had various prepaid cards that I was trying out and they all happened to go through Green Dot Bank. I put $ on them frequently and one day my card didn't work. Well, I called several customer service numbers and Green Dot closed them all out and collected the funds, over $600... To this day, I still have not received MY hard earned money back and nobody seems to have any explanation. Like it just disappeared, idk. I have been struggling since because of the setbacks it caused with my bills and I really would like them to give me my money. It's connected to my social security number... They've got to have a record, right?! :( It's so frustrating and makes me so upset & sad. Would love someone to help.

I saw a fraudulent charge on my account. I called the company to dispute the charge and report my card stolen. I filled out the proper paperwork and faxed it. They said it would take up to 10 days to complete the investigation and if found fraudulent they would refund my money, which is ridiculous in itself. But it gets worse... way worse! I paid $15 rush delivery for a new card. I received my income tax return on this card. So all the money I had was on it. I had no access for 5 days tell FedEx dropped off my new card. I called to activate my new card. Upon doing so, I found out my account was closed. It appears the person who made the fraudulent charge went online and way allowed to close my account and was getting the balance in a form of a check mailed to them!!! I am outraged that somebody can close my account and get a check mailed to their address, an address that is not now nor ever associated with my account.
Now Green Dot is telling me that it is going to take up to 20 business days to cancel the fraudulent check and mail me a new check to my correct address! There is nothing they can do to help me, or expedite the new check or even get me my money in a timely matter. This is pure madness! I have been on the phone with them countless times. Customer service is rude and unhelpful. No one has an explanation of how this can happen or exactly why it is going to take so long to refund me my money.
I am completely dissatisfied with this fraudulent company. They have stolen thousands of dollars from me and won't help me get my money back. I am completely outraged. There is nothing I can do and no one I can talk to to get me my money. Every time I ask to speak to a supervisor they say they are the supervisor! I have no money and no way of accessing the thousands of dollars that they are holding of mine and will not return. I am just waiting for another situation to arise in which they tell me I will not be receiving a refund. I would not put it past the company as being the thieves themselves.

Ordered a card online and was told I would receive it in 2 weeks. Kind of a long time but what the heck I was in no rush. So after I was prompted to deposit money via direct deposit. A stupid move on my part I signed up for it so that when I got the card, my money would be on it and ready to use. Well needless to say I never got the card. I order a new card... Two more weeks go by and I haven't received that card either. It has been over a month of not having access to my money or a card to use. I have sent several emails and tried calling. I was told people would call me and I have not gotten any replies or calls.
They told me I could order a new card to be sent two weeks from now. I REFUSED. Then they suggested an expedited card within 5 days for $15. So basically take my money... And then charge me to get my money from you. They are brilliant. I have not been able to pay bills or buy food because of this company. I am ready to file a lawsuit and involve law enforcement. I am going through the same problem right now. This past Saturday, I attempted to conduct a transaction only to find that it was declined. When I checked online, I had sufficient funds to complete the transaction. Unbeknownst to me, my card was cancelled due to suspicious activity. I contacted Green Dot to find out why and demanded a replacement card be sent overnight to me since they chose to do what they did. It has been my experience that a bank contacts the customer first and confirms the activity before blocking transactions and cancelling the card.
It has been almost a week, I have no card, am out of my money, and have no access to it. I was recommended to get another card and have the funds transferred. Why would I do that? Not to mention I have no access to get anywhere where I can purchase another Green Dot card. They are almost as bad as the thieves out there. I am looking for a way I can sure as they are causing me damages. I suggest contacting an investigative reporter/producer in California since that is where their corporate office is. If there is any advice on what I can do to get my replacement card, please let me know.

I purchased a Green Dot Visa card to pay bills. I set up online bill paying with Green Dot via their website, and used this method one time and one time only. The first experience I had was horrible. I made an attempt to pay my T-Mobile Bill, and my CenturyLink Bill and neither merchants were ever paid by Green Dot, but Green Dot deducted the funds from my account for those bills. So, little did I know at the time, I fought with T-Mobile and CenturyLink for about a month over those payments only to find out Green Dot NEVER SENT PAYMENT TO THESE MERCHANTS.
Green Dot finally left me a voicemail stating that after their (3 day long) investigation, they found that checks to these merchants were never sent. No apology for any of the trouble they caused, I was charged late fees and even had cell service suspended due to their failure. They do not care. They do not appreciate urgency. The only thing they tell me is wait (X) amount of business days for a refund "result". Their customer service is horrible and there is nobody to talk to that understands. It's 2016 and you cannot contact the corporate office unless you send a letter. Do not use Green Dot. Visa, MasterCard, and Walmart ought to cancel their contracts with this company before green dot ruins their reputation. HORRIBLE!

I had 2 unauthorized charges to my Green Dot card. For security reasons Green Dot locked up my account. Nobody from Green Dot contacted me to notify me of the attempted charges. Just so happened I checked my balance online and there was a message when I opened my account online that my account had been locked up. I immediately called Green Dot and I was told about the 2 charges to my account and that my account had been locked up. The customer service rep. who I spoke with lied to me. I ask how could I get this issue resolved. This was on 2/9/16. I spoke to Jazmin in customer service and she stated is all I had to do was to buy another Green Dot and I would be able to transfer the balance from my locked up card to the temporary card that I bought. That was a bold face lie.
I bought the temporary card and when I tried to transfer the balance from the locked up card to the temporary card I could not. The message when I opened my online account it said "this account had been locked up." I called Green Dot and spoke to another customer service rep. He said that my online account would be locked up for 2 days and then I could transfer the account balance to the temporary card. So on 2/11/16 I tried to transfer the balance and I could not. Account was still locked. I called Green Dot again and spoke to a supervisor in customer service and she told me that my account would be locked until I received my replacement card in the mail. I asked her when will my card come in? She stated that the card should come in by the 2/24/16.
I asked her "is there anything you can do to transfer the balance from the locked card to the temporary card." And she said unfortunately there is nothing she could do to help me. I explained to her that my direct deposit had hit my account that day and I had several hundred dollars in my account before it was locked. Again she said unfortunately there was nothing she could do to solve the issue with the locked card. Again she stated that I should receive my replacement card in the mail by 2/24/16. I explained to her that I had to pay my bills and that the all of my money was tied up on my Green Dot card. I gave her a list of what bills I needed to pay and the amount of each bill. Again she stated unfortunately there was nothing she could do to help me with my issue. She also stated that my account should be unlocked in two days.
My account was never unlocked until I received the card in the mail. Because of Green Dot's locking my account I could not pay my bills. My electricity was disconnected for non-payment. I realized that my Tax Return would hit my account by 2/18/16. I called Green Dot to try and get the info. on the charges that locked up my account. Is all they could tell me was that it was McKay67 who tried to charge my account without authorization. They said that was all the information they could had on the transactions.
My electricity was disconnected, cell phone account was disconnected, I had to pay an extra $30.00 to have my cell phone reconnected. I could not buy groceries, gas for vehicles, or any of my bills. I was forced to borrow money from family and I had to apply for a pay day loan because of Green Dot's ** of locking my account. I was at their mercy until my replacement card came in the mail on 2/19/16. It cost me an extra $280.00 in late fees and re-connection fees. Green Dot never offered any kind of help communicating my issue to my creditors or bills I had to pay. I will be getting rid of the piece of ** card A.S.A.P.
Green Dot is a scam. With modern technology as we have it in the present day I feel they should have been able to at least transfer my balance to the temporary card that they told me to purchase. They held my money ($1400.00) hostage for 10 days. They may not charge you a fee if you have a certain amount of deposits each month but they always seem to charge a foreign transaction fee. Foreign transaction fee when all my deposits or purchases are all done in the United States.

After entering all my personal info I was told my info couldn't be verified and I will not be given a permanent card. So I called customer service to find out why my info wasn't verified when I know for sure I entered everything correctly. The customer service is foreign and very hard to understand. They said either my name or address didn't match what was in their system so that could be the reason why it didn't get verified. So I asked for a refund since I could use the ATM to get my cash off the temp card. They said yes, they will send me a refund check in the mail within 10 days.
To my surprise the check came in 5 days and it was for $452.95. I went to Wal-Mart to cash it with no problem. Thank God I didn't experience what most of y'all experienced with this company. I would have lost my mind if I did. I would necessarily say Green Dot are fraud or a scam, they just need to better their customer service and make it clearer about what you can and cannot do with the temporary cards. I will not use them again simply because of their poorly organized customer service. I closed my card and got a NetSpend card instead. I'm just thanking God I got my money back from Green Dot without any issue. I wish you all the best!!

(In the meantime I tried to call several of their phone numbers, including the customer service # on the back of my card, the call center # that left a message with me saying my ID was insufficient, and even the corporate # I found online, all led me to an automated menu, no chance of speaking to a live agent.) The response I received was to send proof of another form of identification through another related site 'Greendot.com/documentupload', which does not exist (other individuals have posted having the same problem). This is a company I have dealt with for several years, who I have deposited my tax returns with, and now this? You are forced to upload your driver's license and wait two days. There is no one you can talk to and you have no access to your monies! I am livid! Don't use this card!!!

I purchased an express bill pay card and loaded $460.00 on Feb 6th 2016. I used it to pay my car note. Under the assumption that it was paid. I received a call on the 8th from the institution for my car letting me know that it was declined. I called Green Dot asked them why was it declined and they told me that it was on my institution end and that they did not accept prepaid cards. I asked them "could I speak to a manager" and the representative said that "that was impossible." Being frustrated I asked him was there anything else he could do. He said that "I explained everything to you. That's all I can do." I spoke back to my institution and she said that she was going to speak to credit card services to see why because she never had a problem before. Card services said that it was on Green Dot's end it stated "do not honor."
My institution and I did a 3 way conference call to Green Dot. After I explained to Green Dot that my institution was on the phone they still continued to be dishonest and state that it was on my institution's end. Then she put me on a brief hold, came back to the phone and said there was no reason for it to be declined then she acted like there was something wrong with phone. "Hello, hello. If you are still there, there is no reason for it to be declined and you will get a card in the mail on the 19th. I am going to disconnect now you have a wonderful day." And hung up. For someone who cannot hear you she had a full conversation with us. We called back. The machine said "I see that you have called several times. Is this call about the same issue?" Then it rings two times and then silence. Little do they know my phone states if the call has failed if I'm on hold ext. There was nothing wrong with the call.
Also the broken English. I can hardly understand what they are saying. I have never worked for a company who doesn't have a manager or supervisor. This company is very unprofessional and I do not recommend anyone to them. If Steve Harvey uses his name to promote business for them, he should look into how they are treating their customers. They have my money and telling me I can use express bill pay for gas and groceries not for bills until I get my new card. This is ridiculous behavior. If my institution didn't hear it for herself she would have never believe me. I have got hit with extra fees because of this. I will never use them again. I see why there are so many issues with this company. Unprofessional behavior, unprofessional English and unresolved issues. They need to be shut down. They are untrustworthy. When they caught in a lie then they tried to act like the call failed. People, please be careful.

ON January this year 2016 I had put money on my card to pay my student loan b/c they take the money off my card every month but anyway the next day credit services that deal with Sallie Mae said they didn't get my payment so I called Green Dot 1866795-7597 and the man want to tell me they take this such and such amount and so on so I said "can you talk to a manager" and he wants to tell me they not in. OK. So then February 2016 I put more money on my card to pay my late fee for my student loan and credit services said my card was declined again.
So I called Green Dot on the back of the card. The lady wants to tell me about a personalized card I suppose to get that I don't know nothing about and want to tell me that credit services don't accept it when it went through October November December so I said "can I talk to the manager?" and she wants to tell me their manager not in, so me and the lady got into it and I hung up. So I call credit services back and told them what the lady said and they said they don't know what she talking about because they do accept them card prepaid visa so I call the card back and the lady or whoever put a block security code on my card that I can't use and I was so mad as hell. I don't like nobody playing with my money, I work too hard but in my opinion Green Dot is a scam and a hot mess. I wouldn't recommend nobody to this service.

I called and they told me that I had a block on my account for suspicious activity even though I had only made 3 purchases in the same city. They said I needed to send in my ID and that I would have to wait for two business days.
I asked to speak to a supervisor because I was stranded at the restaurant and also needed to pay my rent to avoid eviction or at the very least a bunch of late fees. I was then transferred to Lucille (agent ID **). She told me there was nothing she could do. I asked to speak to a manager and she said she didn't have one and then transferred me while I was talking to the automated system. I am stuck for the weekend with absolutely no money. I'm sure Green Dot is a wonderful company for some but I chose to cancel my card with them for the lack of speaking with a live customer service agent. It bothers me (especially dealing with money) when companies divert callers to the automated system and do not allow them to address their needs with a live agent. I find the practice underhanded and shady. I feel if you are a reputable business then there would be no fear in letting customers speak with employees instead of machines. Their 800 phone number on the back of the card doesn't have an agent option and auto hangs up when requesting one. Fix this and you may build some trust back.

I presented all info to Green Dot and 3 months later still no credit has been issued. I have spoken to numerous customer service agents at Green Dot and they usually are less than cooperative in addressing the issue. Some have refused to give their employee ID for proper identification others just plain rude. I have had problems with Green Dot like this in the past, and it has always been a hassle to get the issue resolved, but eventually it had been resolved. In this case I get absolutely nothing resembling concern in addressing the matter. I have cancelled my Walmart/Green Dot card effective today and after plus years of being a customer will NOT recommend this card to anyone.
The vendor who issued the credit was Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. I changed jobs and cancelled my account with them, due to not having access to the receiver after this change. This happened twice. I contacted Green Dot about transaction dispute in November and I suited the info they wanted and the $$ was put back. In December, it happened again but this time, it was 260 transactions. In one day, there were 188. What bank approves that many transactions for the same amount and doesn't call the cardholder? I disputed and this time, I'm getting the run around. My account was wiped and then had a negative balance of 275.00. No prepaid card should ever have a deficit.
I'm a single, disabled mom. I list my apartment, all my belongings because I didn't have money to move. I'd been there for 3 years. I had real nice, expensive furniture and now I'm in a weekly. It's seriously day-to-day and they don't care. All my bills were declined, so there are a ton of fees. We barely could eat ramen. We did mayo on bread and crackers. I have medical bills for the seizures due to stress. Now when my direct deposit goes in, 275 will go to the negative balance. A negative balance that was caused because they approved 260 transactions for 3.99. Are you serious? That's stupidity. That didn't catch someone's attention?
I submitted my eviction form, letters, dispute and now I contacted the Better Business Bureau. There is no way they should've continued approving purchases. I've never been homeless and hungry. I'm ready to call the state to take my son. They have destroyed my life. I've lost everything I owned as well as family heirlooms. I was given 24 hours to vacate and I had pneumonia on top of epilepsy. Now the apartments want to charge me $3500. At an estimate, because people didn't do their job, it's costing me about 10 000 in money, my health and things that can never be replaced. I'm so stunned at how they let those charges through. I'm just beside myself.

So I purchased a $150 prepaid Green Dot Walmart MoneyCard and had issues signing up my card on the internet (which is required), so I called customer support and this is where the hell really began. They put you into contact with someone from the Philippines that barely knows anything about the product they are talking about and just regurgitate information. They can't access any of your account information or change anything. All they can do is give you commands of things to do on the website. I spoke with 2 different customer support representatives and I requested to speak to a superior/supervisor at least 100+ times between both of them and they would NOT and DID NOT put me forward to anyone with any authority.
The excuses ranged from: they are in a meeting, they are on the phone with another customer, and my favorite was that there are no supervisors unless it is 6 am-5 pm PST and the other told me that there are different supervisors for different problems, ETC. What problem did I have today? I kept telling them I want to speak to someone with authority/supervisor and they refused to transfer me to anyone and just told me to go to their website to "report" these type of issues. I then asked them to walk me through the report process and was again ** around and then at the end was put on hold and then told that there is no reporting on the website and I would have to email. On top of all of that, I, the CUSTOMER had to keep fighting over talking because the "customer support" would talk over me EVERY TIME and kept trying to get me off phone.
Basically I was dealing with automated computer/Philippines support that WILL NOT transfer you to anyone that knows anything. They will tell you to call back just to get you off the phone. How VISA allows this company to have such bad customer service is beyond me. I will NEVER buy another "MoneyCard" or deal with any of the money services at Walmart again because of this reason. They might have the cheaper initial cost prepaid visa card, but their customer service = 1/10 and they have FEE's EVERY MONTH you have the card opened which = more than you would spend anywhere else if you don't spend you money within a month. This company is almost fraudulent with the type of customer support they provide or I should say DON'T provide. I'm surprised these guys are even allowed to sell in the United States/Walmart. Only wish I could give them = 0 stars, but must give them 1 star. =/

After using the card for a couple of months I received an email stating there would be a MONTHLY fee increase from $5.95 to $7.95 on the next month. I have never gotten a $5.95 monthly fee so I quickly called my contact and asked about this fee and she said that she checked and that this was a mass email sent out but that my card would not have the fee. I explained that I only was using the card because it did not have fees and that if there were going to be fees attached to this card I would no longer want it. So I had to call and activate the cards and probably spent an hour doing so. I tried to use the cards, but they were refused. Then I got the personalized cards in the mail and they were refused. I then tried calling customer support. There are not choices to speak to a customer support person. I went through the recorded messages multiple times and finally figured out that if I disputed a charge I could actually talk to someone.
But alas that someone couldn't help me and so they transferred me to someone else who told me because I now had the personalized cards they were still locked and had to be registered and she transferred me to an automated system to register them. I followed all of the prompts only to be told it couldn't be registered and it hung up on me. So then I had to start all over again and finally got to another customer support person by disputing a charge and they said they would transfer me to someone who could help me and then put me back into the same automated system. I finally got a 4th person by disputing a charge and explained my growing frustration and me need to get my money. He said, “Okay. This company is HORRIBLE. I should have read the reviews before I decided to do ANY business with them! I have only had my card for a few weeks and had an issue with my permanent card being stolen from my mail box. Stupid me, still having my temp card, decided to request another permanent card be sent to me - they didn't tell me that they would be canceling my temp card. While I can understand that for security purposes... Blah blah blah... They also refused to provide any options in my situation!
Here's the situation. After attempting to use my temp card a few times, I went to Walmart (where I had purchased the card) and FOUND OUT that they had frozen my account. Since I had just deposited all of the cash I had been saving in this account, I waited for a resolution to this situation. The Walmart associate told me that I would have to call customer service but they should be able to just transfer the money onto a temp card, but I would have to purchase it. I called customer service only to get the RUDEST agent I have ever encountered. When I explained the situation, she fed me the "cookie cutter" script that I'm sure they rehearse in the mirror and never actually listened to my issue.
When I requested a supervisor, she refused for over 15 minutes until I demanded a supervisor. She advised that there wasn't ONE supervisor to speak with me. After quite a while longer of me requesting (all while staying calm with her) a supervisor, she finally came back to advise me that she had other people to talk to and she couldn't allow me to stay on her phone any longer. She then proceeded to hang up on me. I did their nonsense survey and called back. When I called back, the next agent was actually much better! She advised me that the management staff was in a center meeting and would be back in an hour. Since I use to work in a call center, I completely understood that this does happen sometimes and thanked her for the information. She offered to have them call me or I could call back - whichever I would like (this call took roughly 2 minutes!).
After talking to a manager at Walmart about the situation, he tried over and over again to get a supervisor or anyone that could help. He actually got transferred to a "specialist" who advised him that instead of getting him a supervisor, she would have to transfer him back into the general queue if he wanted to talk to someone else. HUH??? I ended up calling back since all Green Dot reps refused to actually listen and find a solution to my out-of-the-box issue.
An hour later, I was forced to call in again knowing that the management team should be out of their meeting. AGAIN I was given a rep that refused me get me a manager - even though I told her that I was calling by because I was advised I could. It took another 10 - 15 minutes to advise her that I would not speak with her and to get me a manager. Finally a manager got on the phone, listened to my situation, and told me that it didn't matter - that EVEN THOUGH I wasn't going to have my card for 2 weeks. She refused to allow Walmart to transfer the money to a temp card - even though Walmart was willing to do it. She also didn't care that my mail was being stolen so even if they did send another card, chances were that it would be stolen AGAIN!
This company is full of unintelligent robots. I have never dealt with a company where the agents are so rude and trained to refuse escalations or just hang up on people. I am forced to have them hold ALL of my funds hostage for a minimum of 2 weeks (unless this card gets stolen as well and then it will be longer) DO NOT DO BUSINESS with this company!

I had purchased five cards as Christmas gifts for co-workers. I have been doing a lot of traveling lately for work and in my rush to get them in time I did not notice that these cards were not gift cards but instead were prepaid credit cards that are reloadable. I was still going to give these cards as the gift when I noticed that $5.95 would be deducted monthly unless $1000 was deposited or 30 purchases were made in a month. Due to this, I did not think it was a good gift to give. I was going to use them myself and then cancel them, this way I would only be out the fee to purchase them instead of $225 + fees used to purchase the five cards. I activated one card, and I called your customer service to see if they could put all of the funds from the other four cards onto the 1 card I activated.
The customer service representative said that was not possible because I had activated one of the cards. He then suggested that Green Dot could refund me the money for the four cards that were not activated. His suggestion, not mine. I accepted that offer because it worked out the best, instead of having to try to spend the exact amount on each of the cards to cancel them. He took down my information, I gave him all the information from the cards, and he gave me a date that I should receive the refund checks, which would be after a couple of weeks. In about a week I receive a letter from their processing department indicating that my "refund activity is inconsistent with average consumer behavior, and that the activity indicates that I have not acquired their product for its intended use and suggests potentially inappropriate use of our product."
In order to receive refund I need to give them a copy of the front and back of the cards, government issued identification, and proof of purchase. Once I mail it to them it would take them 4 weeks to make a decision on whether they will refund me the money or not. If their representative would have asked for the information up front saying that it was for security purposes it would have went over better. Instead they accused me of fraud. They also state on the letter that they ask me not to purchase any of their products or ask others to purchase them on my behalf. They do not need to worry about that, I will not purchase their products, and I have suggested to all I know not to purchase.

The reason? Because I hadn't used it enough the proceeding month.
Knowing that there are several other cards out there of the same caliber and basically do the same thing, I didn't raise a big fuss over it but I thought it was a little ignorant of them not to want to receive the high fees that they require for loading the card etc. And when the lady at the other end of the telephone line asked me if I wanted the 29 cents they owed me by check, I just replied with "have a good day" and hung up the telephone. My current address was up to date in the system which was confirmed by the CSR I was talking to in the Philippines. Once I confirmed non receipt of card, I proceeded to ask very specific questions regarding my direct deposit and access to current account/cash with expired card, and if these things would be affected. CSR proceeded to tell me I would still have my direct deposit hit at "normal time", and that I WOULD STILL HAVE ACCESS TO CASH ON MY CARD UNTIL NEW ONE ARRIVED.
December 29, 2015, the very next day, when my card was declined at a vendor, I then learned my card was frozen and I'd have to wait 2 weeks for replacement. I'm pissed!! After 7 failed attempts at reaching customer service, and a combined 2.5 hours on the phone with the CSR Dept., Philippines, and multiple scripted answers, I was told there is nothing they can do despite the lack of and incorrect information their reps are providing. So, now that my payroll has been submitted, and these fools have given me such wrong info, I may have to wait an entire month and a half (given the length of time this last card took to arrive, which was today) to have access to my paycheck. Did I mention, "I can always buy another Green Dot card, transfer the funds, but NOT have the ability to access atm or cash back features."

I got a Green Dot card from a check cashing place. It was a great experience at first until I dealt with their customers service. They never sent my new card out with my name right. I really didn't care because I could use the one I had for everything. I called for my balance, it didn't tell me my balance. It just straight transferred me to customer service. They said I need to update my address on file so they could send me a new card, OK I did. After I updated my address the lady that hardly couldn't speak English tells me that the card I have is deactivated until I get my new card in 2 weeks.
I asked her why are they freezing my money until I get my new card. She said "to protect the card." My question is how are you gonna protect my card from me whom money is on the card and the account is in my name? And another question how they did this without warning me in the first place. So now I have to wait 2 weeks to spend my hard-earned money because they want to send me a new card. DO NOT DEAL WITH GREEN DOT THEY A BUNCH OF **.

I called the company. They would not give me my money after I told them I would not give out my personal identification to a person that hardly spoke English. Why would I do that when they were not friendly and said, "Sorry you need to give us your SS #." Then every month you are charged 5.95 if do not load 1000 on the card or use it at least 30 qualifying purchases. THIS IS A SCAM! NO company should sell this card. I called CVS and complained about what they are selling since there are better visa cards out there. I bought this for my 80-year-old mother and I am not giving out her information for 75.00. It's Christmas Eve and I was advised by Apple (yes, that Apple) to purchase a prepaid Visa card at Walgreens so I could prove I was an adult to give my kids Apple ID's with their family share (my personal Visa debit card did not work, although it worked for Microsoft and Nintendo's child account verifications). This is so I can set up their iPods on Christmas morning...tomorrow. I literally just wasted most of my day on this crap.
Anyway, I purchased a $10 card for $12.95. First red flag, they can only be purchased and reloaded using cash. I got home and opened it. It said I had to activate. I used their website, three times. It would not work. I had to call and they wanted all my personal information which I stupidly gave them -- name, birth date, address, SS number. I am sure someone is stealing my identity as I type.
Long story short, Apple's workaround didn't even work. So now I have this $10 Visa card. WTF do I do with it? Well, I use the Starbucks app to buy my coffee at Starbucks, so let me put that credit card number into the app and reload my Starbucks Gold Card with the $10. Nope. Didn't work. I then download Green Dot's app to check my balance. Like maybe I can't use it to the end and I only had $9 available or some **??? I cannot even get into the app. You would think all I needed was the card number. Nope! I was a customer for at least five years. A year ago, my card was stolen due to it dropping from my pocket at the local pizza joint. This was the only place I went that eve. I didn't know it was lost until I couldn't find my wallet the next morning. I decided to look online for any debits on my card. Sure enough, I had 4 debits from ATMS totaling about $400. They were within 10 mins each. Only the pizza place employee would know my PIN, I believe?
Anyway, Green Dot informs me that I gave someone my pin and they weren't responsible. I shook it off, until this next episode some two years later. My auto-bill payments were always scheduled on Saturday for years. I had found an apartment, hired a mover, and secured storage. My landlord was aware that I was moving that Tuesday. I attempted to stop my auto-pays on Thursday, knowing they were scheduled for Saturday. Nice try. I was informed that since the holidays were coming up, they'd moved my debit day up and paid some $800 in bills that I would've delayed until the next week. Saturday means Saturday to me, and now I have no moving or Xmas money. I'm done with Green Dot, since this rep even tried to lie by saying my payment was scheduled for Thursdays. When I called her a liar since my debits have been Saturdays for years, she admitted that they couldn't stop payments. No luck with the following rep.

I contacted Green Dot and they wanted a copy of the original receipt when there was no receipt. They also kept asking my why the hotel credited the money and could not comprehend that it was simply human error. I was not disputing a charge, but a CREDIT.
I spoke with someone on the phone at Green Dot, who said they could do nothing to release the funds to unfreeze my account. So I called the hotel who said they cannot remove the credit without access to the card. All the while my OWN funds are frozen as well the week of Christmas. I had spoken with a representative twice at Green Dot and was then blocked from contacting them and given an automated response saying that I was informed what information they need and given an email address. Know that you cannot speak with a representative more than twice. I have emailed them a copy of the incorrect CREDIT to my account from the hotel and am waiting for a response.
It was stated that after they receive the correct documentation they have requested (that I don't actually have because the transaction never existed), that it will take up to 3 days to unfreeze my account that holds my own personal money that I need for holiday shopping and travel. Know that your money can be frozen by them for whatever reason at any time, that they will not be interested in helping you resolve the issue and you will be blocked from contacting them via telephone and must wait for replies via email.

I tried to use the card with the rep on the line and it kept declining. The rep said "there is nothing wrong with your card and we can sent you a new one." NO. I have without my only card for over a month now and they are holding my money and I cant use it. I requested to close my account down and a check be sent.
I was advised by the rep I was talking to my check for $422.19 will be cut today 11/26/15 and I will receive it within 2 weeks. On Saturday 11/28/15 I checked my account to see that only 17.19 was in my account so I called green dot AGAIN!!! And was quickly sent to a supervisor. The supervisor told me the rep I talked to on 11/26/15 LIED AGAIN and my check was processed and was not mailed out. The supervisor then proceeded to tell me my check was processed and she will process another check for the 17.19. I advised the supervisor I want nothing less than what was in my account and that is the total of 422.19.
The supervisor advised me there was a withdraw of 405.00 in October and that is where the 405.00 could have went. I said "no your Green dot card will only allow you to use what you have and its automatically deducted from the balance once you use the card." I will take nothing but a 422.00 check for the total in my account. I also want additional compensation for the stress and late fees this company has caused me. We are getting close to Christmas and this company has messed my entire holiday up!! I had to use my childrens Christmas money to pay my car payment. I live paycheck to paycheck and this entire issue is ruining my life. I just want my money and want nothing to do with this company EVER AGAIN!!!

This is a fraud that I'm not asking any credit card, just wanted to start my prepaid card to pay a bill. Also they did not have someone who can solve the problem. Only one representative always repeats the same, cannot help her. Have to wait 2 days. I asked if the company pay me some money that interest me retain. Of course not! Nope, I'm cancelling my card because that's too much for this card a month. Don't get me wrong, I never had any problems with my money when I loaded it, but I just think that $7.95 a month isn't worth it.

I am disabled. On the third of this month I bought a Green Dot gold debit card and had them load $50.00 from the Dollar General on May Avenue. I was told that I had to wait thirty minutes after. I waited and did what I was told to do. Then after the second day, I began to worry because both eBay and Amazon.com declined what I wanted to order off the internet. I am highly upset about this. I could have used that money for a decent pair of shoes. The last time I used one of those I didn't have as much trouble with them and I also was able to get what I wanted from the internet.
Now my distrust of this company has grown and they are falsely advertising that they are friendly. They are also advertising that when you call, to activate your card, you have won a $100.00 gift card you can use anywhere. But you have to pay for the shipping costs of the card at $6.00 a card. And that's before they try and activate your card. And when you try and activate your card finally, they hang up on you, right before it's activated.

I've been with Green Dot Bank for years. I chose them because my credit is less than perfect and they offer the benefits of a bank account without having a bank account. All was well until the FIRST time I had an issue with them. Several times, OTHER banks gave me problems using their ATMs. Either the $$ wouldn't dispense or the machine would turn off and so forth. Whenever I called about these issues, I was treated like a liar or like some sort of thief. I don't want anything that's not entitled to me. I just want what's owed. Recently, I noticed that every time my Direct Deposit hit my account, I was between $60 and $70 in the negative. So of course, my deposit hits minus the negative balance. THIS IS A PREPAID CARD. THERE IS NO WAY I CAN ACCRUE A NEGATIVE BALANCE OF MORE THAN $60.
So, I've been calling for the past 3 weeks trying to get a resolution. First, they told me that it was a "glitch" in their systems. Then, they tried to blame the missing money on a charge from a merchant. Any and every outlet and excuse was used to not have to refund my money. Yesterday, I called and spoke to 5 different people for a total of one hour and the last thing I heard was that they will check my account and call me back. This has been almost a month since I've opened a new bank account and will be severing ties with Green Dot Bank!! I've also already filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau. On November 9, 2015 I purchased a Visa Prepaid Card (Green Dot). After carefully reviewing the packaging, it seemed like an easy process. WRONG! When you get it home you have to call an 877 number to activate it. (Purchasing it at the store and them scanning it like a store gift card is too easy.) Once you get it home and open the package, you pull out a bible sized disclosure statement. In the disclosure statement, it states "if your identity can't be verified, you will be limited to using the temporary card." This is the card that was in the package. Once you call the 877 number, you are asked to give your name, social security number, telephone number and home address. This is (as they say) used to identify you. AND to send you your "personal" card. If you refuse to provide it, they will not activate your card.
When I asked the source of how they verify your identity, the rep would not disclose it. I told them I was not authorizing them to access my credit report for any reason. The rep said that it would not affect my score. BE CAREFUL! This is their attempt to get you into a credit card or personal account. I have contacted an attorney already because they sold me this card under false pretenses and failed to disclose at time of purchase there was additional obligation to activate the card by providing all your personal information. I demanded an immediate refund. BE CAREFUL, IT'S A SCAM!!

So I was again told that 10 days from then I would have a resolution. I am paid once monthly and the day I was paid my 4 children and myself went on vacation to Disneyland. Worst vacation in the world. The day after we arrived to Disneyland we all went to eat and I paid with my Green Dot card and it was declined. I asked the server to please retry the card, he returned with bad news. I used all of the cash I had and paid our bill.
I called Green Dot customer service and was told that my card was compromised and I would have to wait 3 to 5 business days for a new card. Today is November 11th and my card was cancelled and supposedly sent on October 26th. I still have not received it and we slept in the rental van and had to return the following day. I have called on 12 separate occasions regarding this and I've been hung up on. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the representative I spoke with asked me why. I asked "please may I speak to a supervisor", she kept asking why did I want to speak with a supervisor and told me if I wanted to speak with someone else I would have to call back and then hung up the telephone. I have a personalized card from Green Dot, that I've used 3 years w/o any incidents. I load funds at Cumb. Farms each month to pay health insurance premium from Health Care Market Place. On Nov. 3, 2015, I put $35.00 on this card by swiping it at register and paying the cashier.. receipts (*3) in hand, I proceeded to call Anthem B/C-B/S & my payment of $12.09 - DECLINED. I went back to the store, called Green Dot & was told it was a "technical-issue internally" & would resolve itself overnight. With a promise my funds would be avail. by 8 am the following day.
I asked, "How come this store I bought from hasn't had any other issues, or incidents like mine today?" MYA the rep. for Green Dot said, "I assure you if you were to add funds again right now - you will have no further issue, for it will appear on the card, in approx.10 mins." I was so panicked about my policy being cancelled, and having used my grace period already.. I STUPIDLY did add another $35.00 (Plus $4.95 load-fee - Guess what happened next....?)
That's right!! NOTHING.... No money loaded just as the earlier purchased load of $35.00. It's now Thursday, Nov.06, 2015. @ 7:49pm. I was advised to E-Mail all my receipts immediately which I did right at the store I purchased them in... for them (Green Dot) to trace the error of $70.00 plus fee to load just evaporates into the air.. I've called the BBB and Govt Fraud Protection Agency. They are now involved and also hounding this company along side myself. Tomorrow, I'm bringing my purchase receipt to the Cumb. Farms that is peddling these crooks' merchandise - and collecting funds after failure to deliver services they allow to be placed as viable-products to be sold to their trusting consumer which basically condones theft as contracted agents actively featuring and advertising false claims on their behalf.. Instant funds added?
In the meantime, my policy was cancelled for non-payment, because Green Dot's complete and sole failure to deliver to their consumer, (**ME**) and then lying about availability instead of directing their merchant to refund my cash immediately... I'm not waiting for them to lead me thru more happy bull crap of investigations... "Give us 2 days"...etc. They have all the orig. copies of my receipts... as e-mailed immediately. Wouldn't it be safe to say upon receipt and looking at them vs. the fact no money posted on a card that is and has been in use prior to this dilemma - would be sufficient in someone in management making a sound informed-decision likely would say, "Post the damn money on that card ASAP?!".... Obviously, there's more than meets the eye here.
As advised by the Authority of investigations of consumer abuse I spoke with - I'm entitled to my cash back at point of sale of the product where the purchase originated as long as proof of non delivery of services sold as representative of that corporation and their faulty-product... with a sales receipt from their establishment. Proper & proven confirmation of this occurrence in their establishment; with a valid state sales licensure; as long as it's within their allotted stated return policy time limit. Which in this case - "it definitely is." I'm so angry for their failure and not being competent enough to correct it. Good thing they're FDIC insured or are they just **?? Stay away from Green Dot.

Now me being a somewhat thorough person, I read everything I purchase especially something where my money is going. The card was a temporary card and I had to call the number on it before use. I did so, name, address, SSN, DOB, the works. Everything completed I returned the card to my wallet. After a day or 2 I decided to use the card online. Hey, it worked. I even had an app I put on my phone when clicked it opens straight to my balance and transactions. All was correct.
Several days later I received a new card in the mail and it had the magnetic strip on it, my name, same card number. Only difference was this was swipeable. Well after a whole lot of uses and many reloads later, NEVER have I had 1 problem. I get charged my monthly fee whether money is there or not and it does go in the negative afterwards, but they don't charge me a fee for that. Of course, they get that back when I put money on it but hey, you think? Of course, they do!
Still today I have my original card and works perfectly and not one dime has come up missing. I even received an email as to how my card was holding up with age and if I needed a replacement free of charge to call them and a number. All these bad reviews is just hard to believe to me. I then tried to contact the customer service number on the back of the card for hours and got no one. The following day I finally got someone calling from a different card customer service number and they told me that I had made a purchase for 370.00 the same amount I put on the card when I purchased it the night before. I told them the only thing I did was activated the card. The person I spoke to told me the transaction was still pending and she will stop the card and the transaction.
Here I am today 10/22/2015, the customer service from green dot corporation gave me a case number and asked me to email a copy of the receipt and a copy of the card that I purchased to help solve the problem. Well today I called to find out about my money (370.00) and the customer service rep from green dot corporation, told me that the money was gone and they were not going to refund me. I asked him "what do you mean it's gone sir". He replied someone made a purchase on the card but they could not provide me with whoever because the card I purchase was in someone else's information.
So I needed to go to the police department to file a report for theft, after all this the customer service rep from the corp, told me they did received the copy of my receipt and card, but he questioned me and made me feel like this was all my doing. He asked me why didn't I go to western union to send money to my wife, or why didn't I go walmart? Why did I purchase a prepaid card? I felt so insulted, and robbed, so their solution was "oh well sir your money is gone and we can't do anything about it, neither can you. Go to the police department and handle it that way!!!" Whoever sees this review before purchasing this card please don't do it. You are giving your money to whoever for green dot and they will continue to steal from the hard working. I purchased and loaded a Green Dot Prepaid Visa Card earlier this summer. I thought it would be a good idea to have a card I could put some money onto for vacations, to be safe, and to not always have to use my checking card. I was wrong. I was quickly hit with a "load" fee of $4.95. I was only "loading" $20.00 onto the card, I figured that was pretty expensive, but understood the process.
I did not use the card for roughly 4 months, I went to "reload" my card, and noticed my account was negative -$24.00'sh. I realized that whether you use or do not use the card, they charge you $5.95 a month. I called up and asked why was I charged and the lady (Indian accent) was very unhelpful, basically just said that you are charged a monthly fee even if you do not use the card. To avoid the fee, you must deposit $1,000 or more or make 45+ purchases with the card a month. I laughed.
I asked her why was I not notified of these fees, especially after the first month or two. She went back to her handbook-guideline-script and gave me the same answer as above... you must use the card 40+ times, deposit $1,000, etc. I asked her AGAIN in another way, "What would have happened if I never used this card again, would you just continuously charge me over and over, until I was possibly negative hundreds of dollars?" She did not have an answer, she went back to her script. I asked her, "How can you not notify your customers/users of this charge? Why did I not receive an email, a phone call, or even a snail mail with a statement letting me know I owed this company $20.00+?" I knew the conversation was going nowhere, so I told her to cancel the card before they planned on charging me another $5.95 (as they charge you the monthly fee on the 21st of each month).
If I were rich enough to have $1,000 to put into an account each month I probably would put it into a real bank account. I would recommend these cards for parents who maybe want to give their children a safe card that has a limit on it... But as a somewhat irresponsible adult (I admit it), I highly do NOT recommend these cards. They do not even have the common courtesy to let you know you are being charged a monthly fee, they simply tell you when signing up you must pay a "reload" fee. They tell you that you are a "VIP" member, which means absolutely nothing... They still charge you for "reloads" and "monthly" fees. So unless you have really bad credit, cannot get a real bank account, but make lots of cash and need a card and can afford ridiculous fees that aren't explained or notified to you before signing up... this is the card for you!

When I questioned that practice (as it didn't give me enough time to withdraw the remaining balance) they also suspended the whole account; therefore I am also not allowed to use bill pay (using the routing # and checking account #) until I get the card 2 weeks from now. Also suspended access to my account.. There now remains a balance of 65.17. Should have been a little over $100 in there w/o the unauthorized transaction from the other company. That is money I needed to pay my electric bill today. Guess I will be sitting in the dark for 2 wks. Oh did I mention they said it will not affect my direct deposit?? How convenient for them. :/
They showed very little regard to my situation, that my power would be cut off or anything else for that matter. When you call them they all advise they're (Supervisors). And that even the reversal of the unauthorized transaction will be on October 27th. which will be way past the time that my electric service will be disconnected.

I purchased a Green Dot prepaid card 10/14/15 at Rite Aid Pharmacy. I had the cashier to download $375.00 on the card. When I arrived home I registered/activate the card. Waited one hour before trying to use the card, which was declined because the zip code was supposedly wrong. I call the number on the back of the card which was an automotive service and I was unable to gain access because now my birthday didn't match the card number. Not knowing what else to do I went back to Rite Aid, explained the situation to the cashier, swiped the card and it said no funds was available. The manager called the retail number and was told it sometimes take twenty four hours before funds are available. Well as you guess they were never made available and every time I speak to someone they say they can't help me because the information doesn't match the card which I know is untrue.
I do know my name, date of birth, zip code and social security number. The manager in so many words tells me they can't investigate where my $375.00 disappeared to because my birthday doesn't match the card. First zip code now birthday. If this happens often to people and they take no responsibility or make no time to track the monies they company is making millions in untracked funds alone. Some legal actions need to be taken so they will become helpful to finding out what's happening with lost funds instead of telling you your zip code or birthday doesn't match and you have to take that lost. I don't want to take that lost!!!

They put a block on my account and now I'm unable to remove my remaining balance from my card. Can't get a live human on the phone to resolve this. I've been using them for years, now all I have is regrets.

I have purchased Green Dot cards multiple times in the past and have never had an issue. So I purchased another one today for 45$ plus the 2.95$ fee. I went home, registered it online, went to pay a bill and they declined my payment. I tried to call, put in my card number then the last four of my social and it's telling me they're invalid! I tried to contact the company online but every time I try to email them it says it's not a secure site and won't let me! This is ridiculous. So now I'm out 50$ and have no way to contact them besides via a letter through the mail. Are you kidding me? I'm very upset because of this. I'm a single mom and can't afford to lose 1$, let alone 50$. The worst part is the store I purchased it from will not give refunds.

It is the worst gift card you can use, please everybody do not buy from this company. I bought gift card for my friend and she told me it is declined in all transaction. I called them. They said, "There is no balance." I told them I didn't use. They said, "We charge fee $5.00 each month so there is no balance." They steal the money and there is no solution. They have also the worst customer service.

I rented a tool and had to put a deposit down of $100. The company that I rented the tool from put the deposit back. Green Dot never did their part and put the funds back into my account. When I called they said it takes a month to get back into my account. Please read!!! File a complaint with customer complaints with your city.

This is the second time I've been top off by this company. 250.00 was taken off my card. Opened dispute, they denied my claim. They reversed another claim, and stole my money. I put money on my card, and they stole it. I couldn't pay my bills. They are not on your side. Thieves. Warning, don't trust them at all.

I paid $300 plus 4.95 for the card which I cannot use. I can't activate it as the automated phone and online service won't accept my birth date or SS#!!! I've wasted the whole day on this. Walked the 12 blocks back to Von's after calling but then they refused a refund after telling me to come back right away. I am SO upset. I feel cheated by everyone. These cards should NOT be sold if there is no one to back them up. So I have a worthless piece of plastic and am out $305!!! If I had a car I'd go to their office in Pasadena and demand a refund!
