If you're erroneously charged. Good luck getting your money back! If the vendor responds at all. And I mean at all. Any false information. Any document that may not even resemble the transaction - they will side with the vendor! They create many consumer barriers for disputes: such as "you have to wait for the disputed amount to post to your account before we can investigate." And/or "this dispute can only be done by phone." And/or "we miscoded your dispute". And or "we can't tell you what evidence we will need in order to side on your dispute".

They will hang up on you if you ask them what they require from the vendor as part of their investigation. Refusing to be transparent about their dispute practices. BTW, I WAS a customer for 14 years. They lost me for $27.50. $27.50, 4 phone calls, 2 mistakes on their end, total of 4 hours of my time and energy. I hope that others learn from my experience and curb their use of Discover. You may have better luck going straight to the vendor to get your money back.

I paid online to a company to build a website for me, but that company never deliver the website, took the money and no respond. I dispute the charge, first I got a temporary credit back, then later, the charge repost back to account because merchant defend the case by simply saying I approved the transaction, yes and of course, But the key thing about disputing a charge is I don't get the goods or services as agreed or delivered as agreed. Merchant didn't deliver anything that was initially agreed in the proposal. I lost the case. Discover told me to work with the merchant to get refund. Discover credit card doesn't protect card holders. Don't get discover cards. Just don't. You're responsible for anything you paid.

The pandemic is changing things in the financial world. It's necessary for the card issuers to vet their clientele more thoroughly with all the Covid hardship and deaths causing corporate to take a loss. It's also the great resignation along with the global strike wave with the workers barely surviving on their pittance strike pay. All of these circumstances and more are causing these credit corps to shut down risky accounts and cut back in the good ones. There's lots of tax cheats holding CCs they can hang up before they have payment problems with them. Soccer moms and others similarly situated who are up to their ears in debt will be stopped before they rack up a bill with them or make a transfer which could go sour. All in the face of the global uncertainty. There's a lot of nit picking that'll cause a lot of accounts to be shut off thus protecting corporate profits.

I realize all this after the fact. The fact I applied for and was approved for $1000 credit with Discover. I already have Quicksilver and having been building my score up enjoying a greatly reduced insurance bill. That's all I really needed a credit card for. I have plenty of money where I don't need to make payments. My house was paid for long ago and my vehicles are all paid for too. I have no bills. I don't spend but for gas, groceries, and utilities. I have enough fun money and a six figure savings. The only time I needed to borrow money was as a college student in the 1980s which was taken care of.

I needed a Discover card like I need a hole in the head because I'm doing fine building my score with Quicksilver. Since I'm reneging on signing my tax transcript over to Experian for Discover I imagine they will also close my Quicksilver on the grounds of my not sending tax info to Equifax the recent data breaches. They're farming a lot of their work out to India and the Philippines nowadays the US workers are quitting. I don't need my financial and tax getting splayed across the globe.

I will phone Discover when my card arrives in the mail and instead of activating it I will close it. I will just say thanks but no thanks. I changed my mind. I will expect my Quicksilver to be shut off because Equifax never got their 4506 on the Discover. I guess that's life but honestly I felt big holding a credit card. I wanted two cards because it really helped my homeowner and vehicle insurance bill. The credit corporation doesn't make much money off people like me and the insurance gets less out of me but I've never paid a dime interest for it. I will miss my credit anyway all over a technicality which I could actually meet but it'll still probably get rejected later down the road due to policy change or buyouts, etc.

I just got done applying for the Discover It cash back credit card. I was approved for $1000 which is to be paired with the Capitalone Quicksilver card. I have 10 months of credit history. I had a student loan written off plus I bunged an American Express card over a lost rental car back in the day. I skipped out on a few other things and had collection agencies after me until they finally gave up on me. With this kind of credit history it's a wonder I can get any kind of unsecured credit but Discover and Capitalone have really came through for me.

My credit cards are strictly for credit score work and I've reaped those benefits on my auto insurance. I've saved a lot in that department this past year. The extra $1000 credit I'm getting will help since my girlfriend and I like to stay in hotels, rent cars, etc. It's easy for me to utilize little available credit and pay it off early watching my score climb.

The representative did not assist me in any way, only informed me that I was required to pay the amount in full and that they would not be waiving the late fee even though I have been a customer for eight years. You are better off looking towards a better credit card company if you would like to find a card to use.

Because of factors like Covid and having to take care of a family member with dementia, my income last year was abysmal. I already had canceled my card and signed up for a payment plan, but was unable to make payments. However, when I contacted them to try to lower that payment and work something out, they were completely unsympathetic, robotic, and did nothing to help me. My 2021 income is a bit better, but I owe back property taxes from 2020 that I'm paying off, and frankly, that is more important than Discover. I've never been behind on property taxes in my life.

I then wrote letters telling them that I could not afford the payment and proposed a new payment. They kept sending me emails about unrelated issues, and telling me to call. As I had written in my letter, my customer service experience with them was so bad that I did not want to go through that again. They've now cut me off from doing anything online, and want a huge payment that I can't make. It isn't that I'm trying to get out of paying them - I just need a payment I can afford and for them, that is unacceptable.

I lost a car/jobs/and place to live. Every single company sent me straight to collections (which I abhor with every fiber of my being) except, Discover=the impetus for my being eager to settle this account. I repeat I was eager!!!! The gentleman I dealt with, quite obvious to me,,did not have the prerequisite skills to both listen and hear my words.

$61/month was the figure he came up/he came up with and I fell for it. Lock/stock/barrel. Also they wanted an upfront "good faith payment” was the vernacular used. I made that and life went on. I moved the date of payment up in each month. The recent transgression against me was I was told (quite rudely by a woman who needs to lose her job immediately) after being charged for the 3rd time I repeat 3rd time overdraft fees because the money did not come out. I repeat did not come out on the agreed upon date. Recently (as she once more rudely told me) I agreed to all this (we have it on tape) Mr. ** the set date was exactly July 3rd. I repeat. July 3rd not July 2nd as that was when my money was taken from me and my account that could have been about $100 is now $6.42. Also I have endured 3 hernia operations.

Discover's stated company mission includes: "Our mission is to help people spend smarter, manage debt better and save more so they achieve a brighter financial future." Their values include "Doing the right thing," "Simplicity," and "Openness." Their practices are not in service to their mission and do not reflect their values. I recently learned I've been paying a raised interest rate (almost 28%) based on a late payment I made in 2012. Discover's rep informed me accounts are reviewed every six months, but that there is no record of my account ever being reviewed, and that the inflated 28% will continue to be the interest rate on my current balance (they did offer a slightly-lower rate of 23% on future purchases). I have never been contacted about this.

I did ask, and Discover will not correct the interest rate on the current balance, even though my account was never reviewed after they raised the rate, and they will not offer anything else to make up for their ongoing overcharging. To give them another opportunity to earn some of my trust back, I asked about some of the benefits they offer to incentive new customers, and they rejected that olive branch as well. Discover is not a good company to work with, and anyone investigating opening a credit card account should look elsewhere.

Just went through a dispute with Discover Card. The dispute lasted 15 weeks! If you think Discover has you covered, you are sorely mistaken. Discover got rid of many of their perks in 2018. **. I have been a consumer with Discover Card for more than 20 years and did not realize that they were cutting so many of their benefits. During this dispute process, I found out exactly how much Discover cares about their long term customers. Zero, nada, zilch. I was told that it didn’t matter how long I had been a customer and whether or not I had ever disputed anything before.

I was lied to repeatedly by Discover. I asked if text messages between myself and the post office would suffice as evidence that I never received my packages. I was told yes. After providing this information, I was told that it was not evidence. I then provided an email from the USPS stating that I did not receive the package. Again, Discover Card said that the email was not proof. I got on a 3 way phone call between Discover, the USPS and myself during which USPS stated that I did not receive the package. Yet, again, Discover said that was not proof. Discover claimed that the only proof they would accept was a letter on official USPS letterhead that stated that I did not receive the package. Really, Discover? I’m not sure why exactly you think that your long term customer for 20 years is trying to swindle you out of $70.

Finally, we had a 3 way phone call between Discover, the merchant, and myself. In the phone call, the merchant admitted that I never received the package and was due a refund. Discover stated that this again was not acceptable proof. Again, Discover said that the only proof they would accept was a letter on official letterhead that stated that the merchant would provide a refund. Luckily, the merchant did the right thing and jumped through hoops to satisfy Discover. On 5/30/21 this letter was provided to Discover. Apparently this was still not enough evidence for Discover. The case was sent to a 3rd party chosen by Discover that would make a final decision. The third party decided in my favor on 06/24/21. Really? You were already told by the merchant that they would refund my money, but Discover took 25 days to make a decision. Furthermore Discover had to be told what the appropriate decision was by a 3rd party.

During this process, we repeatedly asked Discover to call USPS themselves and call the merchant themselves. We were told that they don’t have phones. Really? There is not phone at Discover? I called them on the phone repeatedly. I guess their phones only allow incoming calls and not outgoing calls? I suppose no one their owns a cell phone either. Seems bizarre to me. Seriously don’t waste your time or money with this incompetent company.

I have been that pain in the **, calls all the time, nitpicking, obsessing customer and Discover has gone well above and beyond every single time to resolve my issue(s)! All representatives are incredibly knowledgeable, well spoken, and go out of their way! Employees for most other companies will play the “other department” blame game, pass you back-and-forth, say they don’t know (and not offer or try to find out), blame other companies, or even put you on hold for long times only to be disconnected in the end. Instead these employees work together across-the-board, communicate with each other well, and take really good notes (so I’m not repeating myself).

I am not making this review based on one, two, or even three experiences, but many, many experiences and this has consistently been my experience. Every single person I’ve spoken with has been from the United States and all have been incredibly knowledgeable, well trained (you can tell they cross train in other departments), and respectful. When they didn’t know the answer to something, they found out; all I had to do was ask! They always have a good attitude and continue to go out of their way even when you are frustrated. Best of all, there are never long holds or endless automated systems! A couple days ago I actually was transferred correctly to three people for two separate problems and in under 8 min, my first issue resolved and I was already speaking to the last one for my other problem (which was resolved only a couple minutes later) —MIND BOGGLING!!!

Also of note, I’m not treated well bc I am some top tier client. I started with my Discover It secured credit card and gave them $200 of my own money to borrow. I paid off my balance every month religiously and without me even having to ask, they refunded my $200 and increased my credit limit to $1000 six months later.

I’m realizing this sounds like some fake review (at least that’s what I’d think if I read it), but rest assured Discover doesn’t need to seek out positive reviews, they’re already there. This has just been my experience. I felt compelled to make this review because I have been that person that doesn’t review often, but when I do it’s usually negative and I felt compelled to do this one because they have truly pressed me that much!! There are only two other companies I have done business with in the world (not credit card companies) that have impressed me with their customer service, but Discover tops them both! Please keep up the good work Discover! You have made a customer for life (provided you don’t change) and you are RARE! Thank you for making this part of my life as simple as it should be! I told both of the CS reps that I never consented or signed anything to get lower payments or lower interest rates.

By the way, the lower payments were $20 and that’s what my payments already were. Without knowing this, I contacted customer service in January, before talking to those two people, asking for the person to help me set up payments for $50 a month. Why would I want to pay $50 a month if I was in a hardship and wanted my payments lowered. It makes zero sense. I never consented to this and never signed anything. They are saying that I had to have signed something to enroll in this program but never did. Also, they say they can’t do anything about it. Last November thru December, Discover offered a $45 Statement Credit promotion for a first-time Sam's Club membership purchase. I purchased a first-time Sam's Club membership by using the embedded link on the promotional email. After 6-months of waiting for the statement credit to appear in my account, I called Discover. The representative claimed that I activated the promotion at ~ 5 pm on 11/28/2020 and purchased Sam's Club membership at ~3 pm on 11/28/2020. According to the representative, since I allegedly activated the promotion after the purchase, the promotion did not work and I was denied my statement credit. After the call, I looked through my Google account activity on 11/28/2020 and found that I visited the "Register Your Membership -- Sam's Club" webpage at 5:40 pm on 11/28/2020.

Thus, it would be improbable for my Discover Card to be charged by Sam's Club at ~3 pm if my web history showed I purchased the membership ~ 5:40 pm, which is also around the time Discover claimed I activated the promotion. With the evidence I've found, I reached out to Discover again, but they maintain that if all terms and conditions of the promotion were followed, the statement credit would have been posted on my account by now. However, this time they did not give me the specific reason why I allegedly did not meet all their terms and conditions for the promotion.

The $45 statement credit itself is not of significant monetary value. However, I purchased a membership that I would otherwise not have purchased solely because of the promotion. I made sure I read the fine print and activated the promotion according to the vague instructions. After all these precautions, they still managed to deny me the promotion. If they can provide hard proof that I did do something wrong then fine, but if they made a mistake I just want them to be able to make this right. I can certify that all details provided are accurate and true to the best of my recollection.

They still send me emails about it, the latest one today, despite the fact they have turned me down and adjusted their site so I can't even finish the application anymore. Due to my religious beliefs I don't use a SSN, and tried to explain that to them. Originally they gave me the run around and asked me to do things that of course didn't work. Now they just won't let me finish my application, despite sending me occasional emails. They don't seem interested in accommodating religious minorities, despite the fact that their free credit check uses Experian, the credit company that does not need/rely on a SSN for credit scores. Oh well, my home town bank will get my business since they chose not to discriminate. Discover's loss.

I called them immediately which was around the 12th of November. They told me they would close it and do an investigation. They did close it and I am not kidding opened another freaking account in less than a week. I again called and canceled that card as well, and they determined that it was a good account even though I had already closed the first one and immediately closed the second one. So now they opened ANOTHER account about a month later. When I called and canceled the first time the amount was about $150.00 and when I did it the second time the amount was about $1,200, and NOW IT IS OVER $2,000.

I have been calling these people for over 5 months and have yet to get a supervisor on the phone. I get the same thing every time. Oh, I am sorry let me see if they are available. I have also gotten since you ask for one I can't talk to you for 24/48 hours. After about 50 calls and sending them the information they requested I still get the same thing OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. They are far and above the worse people and the worst company I have ever seen or dealt with. You would think once you close an account 3 different times that they would realize it isn't your account but they are idiots. All they want is free money even knowing it isn't your account. So if you get fraud with these idiots you will have to continue to fight with them. So, until this is resolved I will continue to give them a review every day. Hope you choose someone else!! They never called or sent a letter. When I contacted them they said they used an email from 2013. I had no idea they sent anything because it’s old and I don’t have access to the account. For years I thought my Discover Card was great. Then, a car wash membership I'd cancelled over a year ago starting putting charges through. These charges weren't even on my current account number, it was an account number that had been changed more than eight months earlier. I disputed the charges. I called the car wash, they apologized and sent me a coupon for a free wash for my inconvenience.

Discover took the side of the third party billing company and reissued the charges to my account. They sent me a letter stating this and said the supporting documentation was attached. What was attached was five blank pieces of paper with nothing but the Discover logo on them. Blank pages were their supporting documentation. I've had at least a dozen phone calls to various departments at Discover and they've had excuses but no solutions. The car wash has stated that they've issued credits through the third party billing company. My guess is I'll have to hire an attorney to straighten out $140 in fraud because Discover Bank is completely clueless. The card has a $30000.00 credit limit and I've had it for years. I may keep it open by using once a year for $5 in gas just so my credit rating doesn't suffer. However, if you don't have a Discover Card -- DO NOT GET A DISCOVER CARD!

If you're like me and have always enjoyed the card, stop using it. Some of their customer service reps are a delight, some are arrogant, nasty, and rude beyond believe. (One agent in Utah was particularly heinous.) All of the agents have basically been totally useless. There is no way to block a merchant if they claim it's a recurring charge. A card closed months earlier can still be charged and create a nightmare for you. I filed my taxes this month and multiple tax returns took less time than trying to straighten this out with Discover. Cut Up Your Discover Card -- Their 100% U.S. based customer service is only about 12% competent. These are not bright, capable people. These are people who should not be working.

Discover may have done irreparable harm to my credit score, which directly affects my ability to buy a home or invest in business. I'm still just floored by what they've done to me. A while back, I used Discover's 0% APR balance transfer offer for eighteen months, and until February 2021 everything was fine. I had an appropriate amount of my Discover credit line remaining on my credit card, and this time I chose to use the 6.99% balance transfer offer for 15 months. When this was completed, I could no longer see my original 0% APR account, as I was planning to pay it off so it would not revert to that usurious penalty rate of 25% or whatever they charge for going over the agreed upon 18 months. That is, any payment whatsoever I made, would go into the new now combined account, and some small portion would go to the older balance. BUT in other words, they said I could not pay off the older balance transfer in full, unless I paid the entire balance before April when the original rate period would end.

They said they could see both accounts on their side of the system, but said I could not see it on my side. They said, THEY WOULD NOT SET UP TWO ACCOUNTS FOR ME. I told them that this was a scam, and I wanted a supervisor. When she came on the phone, she just hemmed and hawed, and said there was nothing she or I could do. So I told her that I would be going to Consumer Affairs and the BBB and Federal banking regulators to report this scam. All of which I have!! I have also gone to another financial firm and paid off this total balance. Goodbye Discover!!!

They affected my credit by closing my account without warning-and against my wishes - because I didn’t use it for a year. Even though before that I had used my card for every bill, charging ridiculous amounts and paying the balance monthly. I suppose they can make more money off people with poor credit and account management habits by charging fees... but they will definitely not have loyalty if you are a good customer. Short sighted policies that have lost them this customer for life.

I recommend Capital One, who have treated me like a valued customer for twenty years. Also, Discover is accepted at far fewer places than Visa or MasterCard... I applied for a Discover it Card late December of 2020. I was approved immediately. My $200 security deposit was taken from my bank account 3-5 days later & I anxiously waited for my card in the mail. Once received I attempted to activate it immediately through the Discover app. After many failed attempts I ended up on the phone with a representative. The first one from technical support who asked me to read him off the numbers that started with “A”. 10 seconds later he says my card is ready to use. That was the 1st lie. After attempting to activate my card again, I call to speak with another rep. After my call being passed around a couple times I was finally given the exact reason why my card wouldn’t work. That reason being that apparently the social security numbers didn’t match & all they could do for me was deactivate the card, close the account, refund me my security deposit & start the process over.

HOW is this even possible!? How did the application even go through the entire screening process (including being asked TWICE to insert your SS# & an error message if they don’t match), money taken from MY bank account (attached to the same SS#), a card printed with MY name on it & sent to MY address which is ALSO attached to MY SS# but the numbers don’t match! The rep tried to convince me that sometimes it’s a computer error that inserts phone numbers instead. I don’t understand how she would even think that response made sense because SS#’s and phone numbers have literally a 1 number difference.

After speaking to a rep from the fraud department & a SUPERVISOR, I was informed that I would receive my refund in 10-30 business days after the account closed. At the very beginning of Feb. I spoke with another rep who told me that I could have gotten my money refunded back to my account before it was closed. I told her that I had spoken to at least 6 people before her & nobody ever offered me that option to me. She informed me that my refund should be to me by the 23rd. It is now February 26th & after speaking to yet ANOTHER rep. I received NEW information that apparently I need to go through two billing cycles before they can process/print my check. It’s not expected to reach me until after March 12th.

This is ridiculous! How do you take my money from an account that supposedly doesn’t even match SS#’s but don’t direct deposit it back as quickly as it was received?! & then send the customer through loops to get it back! How is the SUPERVISOR misinforming customers on information she should KNOW!? None of this makes sense to me. I can’t believe they wasted so much of my time & continue to waste paper to send out notices & blank bills. I originally applied because the reviews were good. Other users obviously have had better experiences. I didn’t. I won’t be reapplying.

Discover is very nice to speak with, 5 stars for their actual team member support. One star, like noted above, solely for their new physical card designs. Their new cards (we have the IT card) has printed on numbers, not raised numbers. We are 0/2 in new card success over the past 7 weeks. Two of the cards have come, right out of the envelope, with the printed numbers distorted in one example and in another an 8 was already scratched or misprinted such that it looked like a 3. Hahaha, would seem there is a print issue and certainly a robustness issue with their new print solution in recent batches.

Then on the second card the chip failed immediately. Now a solid 7 weeks without a card. IDK, I mean, one would think a credit card company would want a somewhat robust physical credit card to give customers. Suggestion for Discover to at least bring back the raised numbers, then if the print wears off who cares, could still read it. I took a photo of the chip on the front of the new card that failed in numerous chip readers on first day active. The small grid lines you can picture on the metal chip looked more like squiggly lines (would guess the chip machine had an alignment or punch issue with that batch). Discover is sending via Fedex the 3rd card now in the past 2 months. We asked if they still had the older design to send us, they do not. If this 3rd card has issues, honestly, we have no other issues with Discover to share here but we're going to then cancel the account (can't use it anyway).

To ask for the charges to be reversed in a reported fraud case was equated to breaking up with a boyfriend and requesting Discover to refund my charge because it was a bad breakup!!?!

My charges were never confirmed by me, I believe the scammers had access to my online account IF there were any confirmations, Discover reported to all three credit reporting agencies that all disputes had been resolved during the dispute time, and now my charges are back on my new credit card (which will be closed). No one is interested in the refunds offered by Apple Support (yes, I now realize they are part of the scam). Discover Card has proven itself to be a lousy company. I had been a customer from 1994 - 2020. Out of the blue, I called Discover to ask about a charge I saw on an old bill. I wanted to confirm that I was not paying for a service that I did not use. During that call I was told my account had been closed. I was surprised. I asked if there was an unpaid balance or delinquency. There was none of those things. Then about two weeks later, I received a letter from Discover Card indicating that they had closed out my account for lack of activity... I was thinking, "What are they taking about? Aren't we in a pandemic?"

Well, the answer is Discover claims that they have proprietary lending guidelines that inform these decisions. The guidelines appear to place no value on customer relationship, nor on time payment, nor good standing account status. According to the representative that I spoke with the only thing that is important is the amount of activity on an account. But, as I noted 2020 is the year of quarantines and stay at home orders. So, it is true, I was not using my Discover card. Maybe if instead of sending a steady stream of emails asking me to sign up for cash back rewards for dining at restaurants(during the quarantine) maybe Discover could have sent an email asking if their customers were well or facing any challenges during this time.

Either way, my relationship with Discover is over. They do not value customers and the services they provide are the same as any other credit card company. Do not do business with such a callous company. Almost every business has seen a decline in business this year - it's just that all of them are not cutting customers at the knees.

But when they are, they are worth a whopping 5% back on categories such as gas stations, restaurants, wholesale clubs (Costco, Sam's, etc.), Walmart, E-Bay, or even any online merchant. Past problems of acceptance at some merchants have been resolved: the Discover card is accepted almost everywhere now.

The card is FREE (no annual fee), billing is accurate, and their attention to online and PoP purchases is exemplary. While Discover's interest rates are on the high side, this is no issue for people who pay their balances every month. The cash back rewards are also very easy to use. They can come as balance credits or be applied to PayPal or Amazon purchases... or even as checks if desired. There are also no restrictions on types of purchases they can be applied toward. One caveat: except for the wonderful 5% categories, the cash back reward is comparatively very low on all other purchases, so I only recommend using this card for those quarterly categories.

If there were 0 stars, I would give it deservingly. I have been a loyal member of Discover since October 2011. In those 9 years, I have missed a total of 2 late payments due to forgetting the due date. I have paid them off in full immediately. Fast forward to October 2020, I have not used the credit card in the past 7 months (recent activity was on Feb 2020) due to COVID. I had no balance and was in good standing. Discover decided to close my account without any prior NOTICE or warning.

I received an email (after the closure of my account) stating that my account was now closed due to inactivity and it was a permanent decision. I called them to find out what this was all about as it was not stated in their terms and conditions. They stated that this was a new policy that they were implementing and Discover had no obligations to issue any prior notice of warning. This is highly UNETHICAL and ILLEGAL practice of business. I would've expected Discover to have some decent standards considering they are a large credit company and the fact that I had a clean history with them. From reading other recent comments, it looks like there is a common pattern happening with enforcing unethical practices toward consumers.

I WOULD ADVISE AGAINST GIVING ANY BUSINESS TO DISCOVER. It seems like they are having some economical trouble within their company (possibly due to COVID). It just doesn't make sense and the timing of the situation with suddenly changing their terms without notification of any kind, seemed off. Do not recommend Discover!

I just got off the phone with Loren who is a supervisor with Discover in Phoenix. I was questioning my charges. According to her the interest charges of around $100 can go away if I pay the daily balance of around $5000. I am also paying around $100 in minimum balance. So they just add up the interest charges and just tell to pay off when we are here trying to reduce the payment. I wasn't even aware of the interest charges being added up and ever increasing because of their ridiculously high apr. I just want to pay off the balance and close this card entirely and take my business elsewhere such as Costco Citi card or cards which has lower apr. I will never use their card again or do business with Discover.

I get a late payment notice (shocked that there was a payment due as I wasn't using the cards not even in my wallet). I discover charges are fraud. I was promised an investigation and a refund of late charges as I've never been late and always pay on time and had no idea there was a balance since I wasn't using cards.

I get another bill for another charge after cards are closed. Never get new cards and said how could there be a balance. Cards closed and in fraud review. Not one person could answer why so I made the payment as they said it's in "late status" again. How could there be a new charge on closed cards? Furthermore they said I wouldn't be getting new cards due to "their intense investigation into the fraudulent charges" as if the charges were not mine. No explanation. Nothing after paying perfect for many years. Terrible service. Terrible card.

I called Discover, they determined to be safe to change the card, and did an investigation. Turned out there was a lot of that going on. To me, the only drawback to the rewards system is that certain merchants/types are highlighted just per quarter for maximum rewards. The rewards might be okay, but if you're looking for a card that will protect you from shady merchants, you're probably better off to keep looking. I ordered leather cowboys boots from a merchant online, but the boots I received looked nothing like those that were pictured in the ad. They looked like plastic, with cheap little buckles and zippers up the side for crying out loud! It was very clear they were a copy, but they weren't even a good copy!

I first tried to resolve the issue with the vendor, but instead of cancelling my second order that had not yet arrived and giving me a return shipping address for the boots I had already received as I requested, they suggested (in broken English) that I gift them to a friend or family member if I did not like them. I finally gave up and filed a dispute with Discover card customer service. I provided them photos of the boots as advertised, photos of the boots I received, screenshots of complaints from other people who had been ripped off like me, and all of my email correspondence with the company with the company trying to resolve the issue prior to filing a dispute. Slam dunk, right? Yeah, think again.

Two months later I receive notification saying the dispute for one purchase had been made in my favor but the other decided in the merchant's favor. Astounded, I contacted them by phone. I was told that the merchant had not responded to one dispute and that's why it was resolved in my favor. As for the other dispute, the merchant claimed that my money had been refunded and Discover card said I still had the boots from the first order. I explained that that yes, only because they refused to give me a return shipping address to ship them to. I explained that the return address on the shipping label when I received the boots was that of a third party shipper and they required the merchant's permission to ship them back to that address.

I contacted Discover card several times, and each time they wanted me to send another email to the company asking for a return address and to ask them what method they used to refund my money as they had claimed. The Discover card folks kept telling me that their decision must be documents based and without verification that the merchant never issued a refund they must rule in the merchant's favor. What??? How am I supposed to prove they never sent a refund? If their decisions are documents based, shouldn't THEY be asking the MERCHANT, and not me, for documents showing that they issued a refund?

Bottom line, everyone I spoke with at Discover card (to include a supervisor named Greg) seemed reluctant, scared even, to contact the merchant and ask them for proof of a refund sent, or even for a return shipping address. I thought Greg was finally going to man up and do it, but five minutes after I got off the phone with him he called me back asking ME to send the merchant another email asking them what method they used to refund the money. So, I still have a pair of shiny vinyl cowboy boots and a whole new opinion of Discover card customer service. Apparently Discover card is great as long as you never have a problem with a merchant trying to rip you off. But if you do, just keep in mind that the only way it appears that Discover card will rule in YOUR favor is if the merchant doesn't respond to the complaint.

Updated on 02/16/2021: Now, they have topped the last review, as they have charged my Mom's Discover card again, that Discover would not let me cancel even after sending my POA to them. Mom passed last year and Discover will not credit the $30 auto renew charge from another unscrupulous vendor that preys on senior citizens. It happened just like I knew it would and Discover will not do a darn thing about it. They offered to deduct the $30 charge from the cash back bonus Mom had coming, in other words, they are going to get paid for an account you can never close. Even after you die it can still go on. User's recommendation: Anyone should steer clear of Discover as they prey on vulnerable adults.

Original Review: My mother of 96 years has a Discover Card since 1988 and has "given" the card number to a few unscrupulous retailers that Discover sold her information to. Discover was agreeable to stopping payments to some of those vendors, and I thought this is a pretty good card to with. That was then, now Mom does not know where her card is, has not used it since. She went to memory care 6 months ago. One of her insurance companies' drug coverage used the card (signed up for auto payment) for a charge of 3 dollars. I get all her bills and saw Discover was owed $3. I called and Discover accepted a payment for $3 to draw from her bank account. I told them the card is gone, we will not use it, and I want to cancel it. They will not cancel the card without talking to the account holder! That account holder does not know her son, let alone a credit card number.

Discover has an entire crew of rude and cavalier phone people that will indeed take your payment, without telling you that they will withdraw it automatically if set up that way. Hence, the day I called and paid by phone, they withdrew money from Mom's checking account to double the payment. When I asked, "What if she dies?" and the answer did not change, when the card expires, they will renew it and there is no cost. They will not give me the $3 back and they will not cancel the card. They want to ensure that someone can scam her into more payments again, and they stand a good chance to get the "late" charges for tardy responses. This is the worst company for scamming elderly that I have ever witnessed and they are proud of their accomplishments, and the families of those card holders carry no weight with this collection behemoth. Worst, I had to rate this a one. No rating deserved.

I have been a long term excellent credit holder till Discover reported one delinquent account that was a joint account with my daughter who set up her own account removing my access. Discover did not even send any notifications to my email address regarding the delinquent account even if my email address was on file. Instead, when I called, I was told this is a "domestic issue" between myself and my daughter. According to their customer service, I need to proactively call Discover's customer service to have the account set up so that both of us can see the transactions. I did not have to call customer service to do this with other banks. I could do all this online. With the poor customer service and lack of understanding, my credit score was dropped by 100 points. They are not customer oriented company. I would never go back.

Discover is losing its value. They do not treat the customers equally. I made an international transaction which was declined and I received a call to Verify the transaction, The customer representative that was handling my call was really rude. IT didn’t seem like he cared what I was trying to tell him that I was in need for this transaction to go through because it was an international charge. His tone and behavior was not at all professional so I ended my call and I tried my transaction again which I was told come to find out he put a hold on my account. SO they declined my transaction again. If this is how Discover treats his customer I am canceling my card.

This has been my experience with Discover during the Coronavirus pandemic. I was enrolled into a disaster relief program. I was told I would not have to make any payments on the card, and would not be charged late fees, but would still be charged interest. My card was shut off without any notifications, because there is an outstanding balance. I am unable to buy food as I am writing this. So, Discover disaster relief = don't make any payments, but still be charged interest, and you can't use your card, but we don't tell you about that.

Discover....Discover....Discover.... Wow I thought y’all were better and this. I had a $8,500 credit card limit with them from 2016 until 2019. I always paid on time with them and then I had something come up which put me behind on a couple payments. They closed my account and I signed up for a pay plan with them to make monthly payments. I set up for payments to be automatically withdrawn from my checking account. I have made those monthly payments on time every month.

I call to see if they can change my due date from the 26th of every month to the last day of the month and was told they cannot do that because my credit card account is considered a “REVOKED” account. I don’t understand how Discover can’t change a due date by 4 days for someone who is paying diligently on a closed account. Get this one...I was told by the representative Valerie that I can pay on the 27th or even the 30th, but would incur late fees?? Excuse you! No thank you! I “corrected” her and let her know that when I originally signed up for the pay plan that I was told to never be late or miss a payment as that would kick me out of the program.

I received a pre approved offer from Discover. The rates were better than my previous card rates. So I decided to apply and was denied. My Credit score is average about 675. Thanks for the useless hard review. I could really do without another on my report. Just took my score down assigns I'm disgusted.

I purchased a chain from eBay for $900 that arrived damaged and fake. I tried to send it back and eBay and PayPal messed up the claim so I had to go through my card company which was Discover. Long story short they half ** investigated by reading only eBay an the seller noted an tried to hold me responsible for $900 for a fake damaged chain until the seller decided to do the right thing an work things out. The seller should’ve had to think about doing the right thing had discover looked over all of my documents because all was noted even a tracking number that showed that the seller had the item back but discover sent me a message saying the case was dropped and not in my favor. Pretty much saying I’m out of $900 plus the chain that the seller had back. I’m still fighting them about this ** up right now so be very careful when dealing with this company. Card itself is ok but the dispute department all needs to be replaced.

I have had my Discover card for almost 20 years and have recently had it deactivated without notice due to lack of use. I find this highly frustrating and extremely poor judgement on the side of Discover. I will say, that while living in the US, the card is works well however, since moving overseas I am finding it very difficult to use as no one here seems to accept Discover. So I feel as though I'm being penalized because Discover can't get their act together and partner with more services internationally. To summarize, if you only need a card in the US, it works well enough. If you travel internationally, choose another brand.

Recently acquired this card. I have excellent credit. They report that those with 690-850 credit can acquire an interest rate of 11.99-22.99%. I got 20.99 with a credit score of nearly 800. I asked them to lower it since my other cards with higher balances are between 10-15%. They told me they would not lower it since "you are at the lowest rate for your account type". If they won't support me and back the decades of keeping a great score then I will give my business to companies that care about me as a customer. Discover card is clearly not interested in earning my business. As such they will not earn revenue from me.

I'm only giving these guys one-star because I don't have the ability to do 0 stars. After being a loyal Discover credit card holder for the last five years, having never missed a single payment, and having paid my card off in full on numerous occasions. I received a secured message from them today notifying me that my credit line was chopped by 1/3. What is so shameful is that it was made under the guise of my debt to credit ratio when in fact it had absolutely nothing to do with that. How do I know? I find it ironic that the day they chopped the credit line I read a news story on Yahoo about the company reining in credit lines because of fear of nonpayment. And how has my loyalty been rewarded? It's been rewarded by the company lying to me about the reason for chopping my credit line instead of telling me the truth.

And what's even more shameful is that while so many companies have done the right thing by helping their customers through this tough period best behemoths and bulge-bracket companies like Discover scurry away like cockroaches when people need their help the most. Needless to say my credit card has been shredded, will pay the balance off on the next pay period, and will never do business with these ** again. Chase and Citibank, on the other hand, have been wonderful during this crisis.

They say they will not credit my account due to some record they have from the company from China.... I repeat I NEVER RECEIVED MY ITEM . With that being said the next time I reach for my credit card to pay for something it WILL NOT be Discover. I would close the account but it will make my credit score drop.

The Discover card will always ask if you would like cash back during a sale. If you accidentally or intentionally hit any button other than no, this will be considered a cash advance and all charges on your account will begin accruing interest, a lot of interest. Cash advance rates are very high. The interest on your account will be skyrocketing, beginning the second you hit that button. This is a bank scam that the bank would like you to believe is for your convenience. If it was for my convenience it would be possible for me to turn it on, if I choose to.
