This is the worst card you can possibly get as an individual with built credit. It offers little to no benefits and is absolute garbage. If you do a balance transfer for a one year zero interest rate payoff, they still charge you interest. If you pay early, you can still incur a late fee. Yes, this is the worst card on the market outside of the Apple Card. Trash. Go with Amex... never waste your time with Discover. Absolute trash. Awful experience.

To be fair to the agent, I could just be stupid and need more things explained since this is my first year opening credit accounts (although I have a pretty good existing credit score at 740, thanks mom!) and I'm ultimately new to this. But it really shouldn't be this hard to get answers even if I need more information than a seasoned credit account holder. I am currently trying to switch from Capital One over to Discover it due to better benefits and the intro 0% APR. Chatted with a guy on their live online chat for 30 mins or more, with it going absolutely nowhere. After 30-45 mins I sort of (?) got my answer on why I was having errors and ultimately was denied. I kept getting an error screen about not being able to retrieve my bank account log so I started a support chat. Initially he said it was the name on my bank info not matching up, which I verified 3 times with him.

After doing that for 10 minutes, it was another issues of "multiple inquiries". So why couldn't you tell me that was the reason I was unable to apply instead of running me around in circles about my bank info which was right all along? My agent somehow pretty much kept talking and talking without answering my question of what that meant. Finally I just tell him to tell me the names of my inquiries. I have my car loan and my Capital One card which are reasons to deny me. This isn't the agent's fault, but I can't wrap my head around my boyfriend with zero credit score and zero history can get approved for a 1000$ limit cash back card but I'm denied even with a good score.

Overall, saltiness about being denied aside, the customer service was just unhelpful and unclear about answering my questions. I have never had to chat with customer service for any company for longer than 15 minutes maximum so this was crazy to me, to get an answer I could have received in the beginning. Hopefully as I learn more about the terms used and more about credit building in general, this won't happen again.

Kept siding with Universal because they want proof of a refund when Universal said the charge should drop and everything with that agreement was over the phone.

Cancelled my Discover card yesterday. Had card since 1989, but apparently its dispute dept would rather ignore overcharges by Mexico resort instead of helping a loyal customer. It sided with the RIU Resort because I had the audacity of signing the receipt when I got to the resort with my kids and grandchildren. I complained at the resort, but they did nothing. Thought Discover would help me out when I got home as we had no choice but to sign the receipt or else stay on the street. But even though I provided Discover with written proof from RIU of the overcharges, they did nothing and sided with the ripoff resort. Now they no longer have a 34 year loyal card carrier that every month had charges totaling $1500 to $10000. Their loss. The dispute resolution service is worthless, sign the receipt and you have no recourse through Discover whenever a merchant cheats you. BEWARE. Find a credit card that actually will protect you.

I asked Discover for payment reductions as I was selling my house. We agreed upon a payment reduction that would result in keeping my account activate when I would pay off the entire balance when my house sold. I was compliant and made reduced payments as agreed and paid off the entire balance. When I go to use the card (being a customer since 2009 with a perfect payment history) they said it was suspended and would have to be reviewed to be sure I was in compliance with payments, I said, "I have a zero balance, what do you have to examine!" They insisted it would be a matter of months before they could see if I was staying compliant, even though I cannot use the card!! Ridiculous!!

Do not think they value their customers or are acting in good faith. Pure **! Rigid guidelines that are not there for any other purpose than to be obstructionists. I immediately told them to cancel my card as I did not need a card that is useless. I have plenty of other good cards to use, they evidently put little value on a perfect previous credit history of 13 years. Highly do NOT recommend their services!!!

I ordered a service on March 22, 2023 from NETWKCARE, which is a cloud-based firewall. I validly ordered it and paid $400. The service was not received, or shipped, or given after I purchased it. I opened a dispute. Attempted on 3 to 4 occasions, in May of 2023, to contact the company. No reply, the items was never delivered. I opened a dispute, gave all the documentation to Discover. Initially they credited my account, and then reversed it and put it back on my account because the merchant said they "delivered it." I never received it. Discover then recharged my credit card and said, "there's nothing more we can do."

I'm happy to pay for anything I buy...I never received it. Discover decided to trust the merchant rather than the cardholder. I have zero reasons to not represent the fact that I never received the service. I closed the account and will not do service with Discover again, and will disseminate this information to friends and other family. I've posted this for other cardholders so they know the information. Kindly, Greg

First time having a Discover card. Hubs put down a deposit on a time share membership while on vacation in another country. The deposit is fully refundable if we decide not to continue and we have an official signed letter to that effect. After unsuccessful calls to the resort to cancel, we started a dispute with Discover. I uploaded all docs online, they credited back monies, and investigation started. 2 months later we find that they found in favor of the resort and "didn't get the refund letter I uploaded". I tried to upload again but their system did not work. They would not accept email, only fax or snail mail. I do not have fax because who does anymore, so I sent it via mail.

A month and a half later I call and found out they judged against us again because the letter said "the amount could be refundable 100%" focusing on the word "could" for some reason. Nevermind that we never received anything for the monies charged or that we could not reach the provider. I asked why we were never notified of the second decision, and she said that they could have been better at communicating that. Absolutely disgusting. We can't close this account fast enough.

I applied and was approved for a card a couple months ago. Since my credit is what most consider very good I had no problem getting it. However, I went back and forth about getting another card, but I had a family vacation coming up which was a cruise to the Bahamas. After getting the card I waited to activate it until a couple days before we left. I got on the Discover App and set up an upcoming travel notification and everything I needed to do on my part. Once I got to the city I would be getting on the ship I had to pick up a prescription from a Big Box store pharmacy. When I tried paying the card was declined, mind you I had used it a few times the night before, so I assumed it was either their card reader or a technical issue. After getting onto the ship I initiated a chat just to double check and was asked to call an 800 number.

Once I called I was informed that the card had been flagged for possible fraud and I would need to do an ID verify. Not a problem, or so I thought. After providing every number that I had available to me at the time, I was told they were unable to verify me. Mind you I’m on a ship that is floating further away from land and this card is my only access to any type of funds. My service is fleeting the further away I get and the call keeps dropping. I’m so stressed and honestly terrified about what I will do. Each time I call I’m met with the same problem after explaining the situation each and every time beforehand. None of the representatives were helpful and a few were downright disrespectful and rude! One actually hung up on me after saying “Nope can’t verify you. The card will remain locked for 14 days. Is that it?”

The last gentleman I spoke with was very helpful and tried his best, but was unable to get me verified. He explained that I had to be verified by a phone number that I’ve previously been associated with. I’m 19 and have just recently had a couple bills transferred into my name, so I assume maybe I could verify with one of my parents' phone numbers. I’m still not sure because no one would steer me in the right direction. After that final call, I accepted that I was in a really bad situation. This company stranded me a 1,000 miles from home in another country with $61.00 to my name. They essentially ruined my vacation and put so much unnecessary stress on me. I understand the security is in place for a reason, but I feel like they could verify someone in more than one way especially since phone numbers are so commonly changed!

If I had not scheduled the travel, went through verification twice (once just days before) and was verified in a different both times, I would understand. I did everything I was told to do. I provided everything I was supposed to provide. This vacation was planned for over a year and less than 30 minutes it was completely destroyed and I was literally as the saying goes “Up the creek without a paddle!” Or a penny. I’ll end by saying when you have a customer who does everything you ask of them, has impeccable credit and payment history and there’s an issue, you should be able to resolve the issue in a few ways. I was desperate, I was scared, and defeated! I pleaded with them to please help me and was met with some of the most unprofessional help I’ve ever experienced. If you go with this company please just be careful and repeatedly clarify that everything is taken care of.

After 2 months Discover reversed the credit (without telling me) because Home Depot showed my online order. I never disputed I ordered, but I never received item. I have provided copies of chats with the trucking company stating that the driver never delivered because he couldn't find my address. I submitted a copy of the police report I also filed.

My dispute has been in a final review status now for over a month and no one at Discover can tell me when it will be finalized. They tell me to check back online to check status as it is with arbitrator. How long are they going to hold this over our heads when the trucking company has clearly stated it wasn't delivered? I am seriously considering closing my account once this is finalized. Sad because I have been with them for nearly 40 years now.

Only solution is to apply for the card again. Except this time, I wasn't approved!! Brilliant stuff. Makes a lot of logical sense. Definitely will never be using them in the future. Well after months of unemployment I was forced to make budget cuts and eliminating some of my credit cards was part of that, Discover being one of them. Well a few years later, full-time government job, no debt, good credit score, I re-apply for a Discover card due to no interest and high credit limit and I was declined because of the 3 late payments years before. Now I'm sorry but yes the payments were late but the balance was paid and other than those 3 my payment history was perfect but still that does not matter. They only look at the bad, not the good and to me, this prompts me to write this review. So it's a great card and company but don't EVER miss a payment!!

Oh, let me tell you about my wonderful experience with these parasites. My father died on 3 August, 2011. As executor, of course I had to look to settle his finances and estate. Discover Card and their merciless dogs began calling 24 hours after the man died. The calls came at a rate of about 8 per day. They always began with "Sorry for your Loss", and then "You are under no obligation to pay", which was always followed by "Is your checkbook handy?". Every. Single. Day. They would call me while I'm trying to calm down hysterical family. Call me while I'm talking to the estate lawyer. Call me when I'm trying to talk to the coroner. Every day, multiple times per day. All for a lousy 3,400 bucks, which they would have gotten once I'd had the man's finances in order.

I NEVER forgot how they did this to me, and at a time when I should have been grieving, this parasitic company wouldn't even let me do that - they were too busy calling me on their speed dial with their minions. Even after I paid off his debt, and my own and cancelled my card - telling them exactly why I would never do business with them again - they had the audacity to provide me with false sympathy, then suggested I keep the card and put it in a shoebox 'for a rainy day'. I'll never use their card again, or any of their services, so the remainder of my time in this world.

Mostly I've had good experiences with Discover Card, but like most people who come here, I didn't come here to give them kudos. My wife has always liked their customer service and normally I have not had any problems with them either. But one bad experience can really turn a person off and like in my case I just don't trust them anymore. Discover has a policy that says if you didn't receive any goods or services and you are disputing a charge then you are normally (something like that) entitled to a refund. It's important to me that I can trust their word on this. But unfortunately I was ripped off nearly $100 and received absolutely no goods and no services. Zero on either. Zip nada nothing. As a credit card holder one would think that a person in this position would have the option of not paying, stopping payment, getting a refund, whatever.

It's supposed to be MY money. I'm paying the bills. It's NOT Discover and it's NOT the crooks who took my money. So why don't I have the choice not to pay crooks if I don't get anything, I repeat ANYTHING for my money? Without going into further details I would suggest to people that they do like I do and start using a different credit card other than Discover because if you think they have your back and you don't have to pay crooks who outright steal your money, you might be sadly mistaken. Unfortunately Discover card cannot be trusted.

They don't have your back and it's not like using cash. It's not really your money. You might think it is but it's not. I think it might have something to do with the crook. For example if the crook is the government, oh well gee I guess that's different huh? If it's the government well I guess they are always right. It's like Lilly Tomlin and the phone company "We don't care, we're the phone company" (for those of you old enough to remember). Well buyer beware when say you are renting a cabin from a government owned park. They can rip you off whenever they feel like it. Discover card won't do anything about it. They don't care.

Discover is racist towards minorities, if you make a large payment on a card with them, from your bank that you have been using to make regular payments from. They will not show that you have paid down the card with the large payment, until up to 8 business days after they review that the payment is the legit. Meanwhile the funds are already out of your bank account. If you want the payment to show quicker and the funds be available on the credit card, you have to three way to your bank with Discover on the phone, so that they can verify the payment came from your account, which is very disrespectful, because they are treating you like a child at that point. They say that normally when you make a payment it takes two business days for funds to be available on the card, but yet if you try to pay off half or all your balance on the card, it takes up to 8 business days for funds to be available after they do research.

This process can affect your credit, because when your statement closes that is the balance that is reported to the credit bureau, so let's say statement closing date is 09/02/2022, you made a payment to pay off the last statement balance that was $3,000 on 08/31/2022. That payment is not going to show you paid off the balance to the credit bureau until the next month, and you want to use less than 30% of your credit card. But the 0% promotions do not help your credit when making purchases, because your credit usage still needs to be less than 30%.

If you had a large purchase using way more than 30% credit card utilization, your credit will take a hit for that one month, but by the way Discover takes care of large payments made to them, your credit can take a hit for two months. Also this has nothing to do with them being racist for this part, but they charge 3% of the balance to come up with their minimum payment, when other creditors only charge 1% of the balance, this pertains to 0% promo offers as well. Minimum payment with Discover is 3% of balance no matter what.

I choose to do $1000, bumping our credit limit to $1500 total. November 1st my we deposited the $1000.00, it typically can take up to 8 business days to reflect your account. It's November 18th, no limit increase, I've called 11 times and get the same ** run-around story. I can't say it enough, the people are nice who answer, but trying to get anywhere with anyone is next to impossible. I have been with DISCOVER for years and they simply refuse to give me a well-deserved credit line increase BUT they refuse and always have different criteria for the refusals and mostly don't even apply to my situation as they have a robot or computer decide if YOU are human enough to be responsible instead of hardcore proof such as never late, always on time and responsible pay history and etc.

If you are doing everything correct and still get appreciated and or rewarded with more credit spending power then not sure what hoops and tricks in this circus they want us to do! This is certainly a stay-away company for your credit card needs! Went to American Express and they treated me well with a starting credit line and open arms! DISCOVER has simply lost their good business antics and with kids literally young immature low paying customer service folks that simply don't care about anything but that paycheck at the end of the day.

I have checked all my records (and I don't delete emails or voicemails), and nothing from Discover on the dates they said they've contacted me. There is absolutely no legitimate grounds as to why my account should be closed, let alone not even reopened for consumer satisfaction, based on the reason. I will forever remain away from Discover and will never recommend this company to anyone ever again. I will even go as far as to deter anyone I know from using this company again as well. After he told me the same, called Transunion on home phone, verified the information on speaker while rep on mobile phone on speaker. He calmed his attitude and stated he'd heard and will do a soft transfer so that he can explain to a manager that he heard my conversation with Transunion and that he applauds me on how calm I am after reading the notes on how many times, I've called. Once transfered, I got a Manager on the phone, who stated to me that he told her that I needed a replacement card and they weren't able to send it cause, I had a fraud alert. She was just as unconcerned as all the other managers that I'd spoken to over the last 2 months. I have spent numerous hours on the phone, being transfered to unhelpful managers, having to explain my issue and many departments and inconsistency in the reasons for this issue, never a solution all though, I've done what was expected of me and 3 months later, no results in sight.

I find my account has been closed and I call them and they tell me that they've sent me late reminders in email and they have not? In fact their automated system is broken and I have the evidence on my phone of proving I called in and paid my bill?! They reported me to the credit bureaus for their own automated error and refuse to take it off so I refuse to pay them.

They're thieves. I bet they get kickbacks from the credit companies to do this to people!! They said they can only take away the credit reports if it's their mistake!? It's definitely their mistake and I will sue their ** over this. I worked for 10 years to make my credit perfect and now when I need it they went out of their way to destroy it. Like I said I bet it's some con artist negotiation they have with the credit bureaus to do this to people. Avoid them at all cost. I've never had this problem with any other card.

I signed up for credit card so I could finance a mountain bike with intro APR. I was approved for a $12000 limit with an instant line of credit through Apple Pay. I had the bike built but the card was declined, I called CS and they said the account was so new they couldn’t help me in anyway, I politely asked for a reference number for our conversation and was promptly hung up on. No big deal, I’ll put it on another credit card and have Discover fix it all in a couple days.

Two days later I called and asked to have the balance transfer fee waived so I could have zero APR to pay off this mountain bike, I was passed around to about eight different employees, two of whom admitted there were a lot of problems with the instant credit and something should be done, but ultimately the blame was placed on me since “Discover can decline any purchase for any reason”. I was also called “presumptuous” for thinking Discover would right their wrong and help me balance the transfer with no fee. Discover decided there was nothing they were willing to do or could do, whatever it actually was, and when I responded with “if nothing can be done I will cancel the card.” They swiftly responded “okay your card is canceled, have a good day.”

I was in complete disbelief and will never touch another Discover product with a ten foot pole. I am very polite and sympathetic to CS and have never had anything resembling this bad of a CS experience. I really wonder how they maintain their customer base after this and reading more of the reviews like this. C’est la vie.

I was a Discover Card holder for 9 years from 2001-2010 (among many others). My initial credit limit was $9,000.00 with a APR of 18%. As a rule, I always keep my credit balances low and pay the entire balance off every month and I have never missed a payment (with any of my credit cards). Every 2 years I would call customer service to request a lower interest rate and they denied the request every time. In 2006 my credit monitoring service stated that Discover Card was continually running a credit inquiry on 2 of the 3 credit bureaus every 90 days. Discover service rep explained that the inquiries are for periodic account reviews for the purpose of automatic credit limit increases, that I never received. In 2007 I requested a credit limit increase and was instantly approved for an additional $300.00! One $300 credit limit increase in 9 years with stellar credit (820).

In late 2009 I started receiving letters from Discover stating that my account will be closed if I do not use the card more frequently. I began rotating my credit cards for weekly trips to the grocery store and set my account for autopay. In 2010 Discover closed my credit account without warning, although customer service stated that 1 letter was mailed out and not returned. This account closure directly caused my credit score to decrease -23 points which also lowered my credit rating. I called Discover Card customer service to request a review of the account closure and the rep informed me that the only option is to re-apply for a new credit card account, which would again, just bring my credit score/rating down even further, so I declined. Unfortunately 12 years later every other day, I still receive multiple pre-approved credit card offers/invitations from discover (not exaggerating). Discover Card is the only credit card that I've ever had an issue with.

However, Discover told me that regardless of the amount of proof provided, they support the merchant unless the merchant agrees to refund the customer, which means that their claims of providing consumer protection are false, and they are forcing their customers to pay, though the law says otherwise.

When I retired, I made the mistake of closing all my credit accounts. Also, I paid off my home so I had no mortgage. The bottom line was, in a few years my credit was gone. Since I saw my income was better than I thought and my payments less than I had anticipated, I needed an item that required credit. But, I had no credit. So, I had to start over. I knew I'd likely have to get a secured card to start with and pay it off monthly.

So, I applied for a Discover card. Their customer service is pretty good. Otherwise, but that's where it ends. I applied for and received a secured card. One week after getting the card - no, I think it was the same day - I got by email a request for an IRS form to prowl around in my income taxes for the last two years or I would lose the card. Well, I'm not about to subject myself to that so I closed my account. Did not even activate the card.

I asked when I would get my money back. I closed my account March 30, 2022. Following was my reply: "Thank you so much for holding! Taking a look I do see that you closed the account back on 03/30/2022. It takes up to 2 billing cycles plus 10 days to receive the refund. I hope this information helps. What else can I assist you with?"

If my math is correct, that is about two and one-half months give or take a week or two and not including mail. Oh, they send you a check. They do not put it back into your checking account where they insist on getting it from you. If you apply for a card from them, any card, expect the IRS form. If you want to allow them to dig into your taxes and you want to do it, that's your business. But be aware it will happen that way. If you don't want it, don't waste your time. I now have a much better card and it is not secured and it has a nice line of credit.

Why didn't you verify my identity when I applied? Because of me neglecting to do something the company should have done before approval they have now froze my account. I just got the email this morning that they are freezing my account even though they did freeze my card almost a month ago. Screwing me out of the 18 months 0% APR. This is really shady behavior. A big named company like Discover should be verifying people's identity before approving any credit limits. My 18 months would have been up this September. I always paid at least my minimum balance off every month and this is how you treat your customers? You call them with a shady request. Asking for us to print the form out fill it in then take a picture of it to submit.

I did eventually reach out to customer service to confirm if it was a scam which they said it was legit. When I asked why wasn't this done before approval they said they couldn't answer that and I'd have to talk to someone else. I was approved for a limit of $500. Maybe they considered it a small amount so they didn't check my identity for that reason, I'm not sure because no one at Discover will answer my questions. I get the same results over the phone and online. It was a great card up until this lack of proper verification on their end. Maybe next time they should verify the identity before approval. In the meantime, I am still paying my card off, even though I can no longer use it, that's just the type of person I am. For anyone looking for a credit card company beware of Discover's suspicious actions. I have talked with many people about this and all of them agree that this is shady on Discover's end.

Having worked in the legal field for 28 years as an investigator, I made sure I closed any excuse Google Play could give Discover. However, Discover approved the charge claiming they received a document from Google Play which convinced them that I had in fact made the charge. Not only did I never receive a copy of this alleged document, Discover never informed me what Google was claiming. Discover pushes security above everything, but allows fraudulent charges to be made against their customers. So, after 15 years, I'm closing my Discover Card account. I suggest you do the same.

Asked to have it increased but denied. Asked to have the credit lines combined (they do it but denied it). They make absolutely no sense. I wanted an increased line of credit which they could take from the other card I have and still can't seem to help. They keep citing the new card is a new account even though I have been with them for 8 yrs already. Thanks, but I will do business with a company that wants to make the purchasing fees with no risk of not being paid in full.

This has put me into extraordinary finance distress and nearly another hospital visit for mental reasons. I called Discover about solutions and the first rep I spoke to was completely ignorant and soulless. He was of no help and just constant bad news with no light at the end of the tunnel. I spoke to another rep about possibly closing the card.

He asked if I wanted to close, I initially said yes, however asked about other options. He began speaking about options and I began to give other questions, but then I lost connection. The card was then closed upon me calling back. The $10,000 I paid toward my Discover card was after nearly 3 years of perfect, on-time payments. Again, not even a month later my limit was lowered by 80%. I struggle to pay my car and may potentially lose my apartment I share as a single father with my son. I am not even 30 with a 12 year old boy. These tactics by Discover have literally brought havoc upon my life.

The card has been fine and customer service has been good to work with, but Discover has one huge issue—their payments/available credit takes FOREVER to update. With my other cards when I make a payment it adjusts my available credit immediately; with Discover it can take up to eight days. There’s been times where the payment has posted to my bank account and I was still left without available credit. To quicken the process you have to call and have them call your bank to verify funds so it’s a huge unnecessary inconvenience. This may be a deal breaker for me.

I sent Discover proof of cancelation from the magazine company and the information they sent back to me even showed I was owed a credit on the second page and they missed it. They just got stuck on the initial response the from magazine that I owed it when I didn't. I even called them. Never accepted my proof of cancelation they requested (sent 3 times). They create many consumer barriers for disputes: such as "you have to wait for the disputed amount to post to your account before we can investigate." And/or "this dispute can only be done by phone." The pandemic is changing things in the financial world. It's necessary for the card issuers to vet their clientele more thoroughly with all the Covid hardship and deaths causing corporate to take a loss. It's also the great resignation along with the global strike wave with the workers barely surviving on their pittance strike pay. All of these circumstances and more are causing these credit corps to shut down risky accounts and cut back in the good ones. There's lots of tax cheats holding CCs they can hang up before they have payment problems with them. Soccer moms and others similarly situated who are up to their ears in debt will be stopped before they rack up a bill with them or make a transfer which could go sour. All in the face of the global uncertainty. There's a lot of nit picking that'll cause a lot of accounts to be shut off thus protecting corporate profits.

I realize all this after the fact. The fact I applied for and was approved for $1000 credit with Discover. I already have Quicksilver and having been building my score up enjoying a greatly reduced insurance bill. That's all I really needed a credit card for. I have plenty of money where I don't need to make payments. My house was paid for long ago and my vehicles are all paid for too. I have no bills. I don't spend but for gas, groceries, and utilities. I have enough fun money and a six figure savings. The only time I needed to borrow money was as a college student in the 1980s which was taken care of.

I needed a Discover card like I need a hole in the head because I'm doing fine building my score with Quicksilver. Since I'm reneging on signing my tax transcript over to Experian for Discover I imagine they will also close my Quicksilver on the grounds of my not sending tax info to Equifax the recent data breaches. They're farming a lot of their work out to India and the Philippines nowadays the US workers are quitting. I don't need my financial and tax getting splayed across the globe.

I will phone Discover when my card arrives in the mail and instead of activating it I will close it. I will just say thanks but no thanks. I changed my mind. I will expect my Quicksilver to be shut off because Equifax never got their 4506 on the Discover. I guess that's life but honestly I felt big holding a credit card. I wanted two cards because it really helped my homeowner and vehicle insurance bill. The credit corporation doesn't make much money off people like me and the insurance gets less out of me but I've never paid a dime interest for it. I will miss my credit anyway all over a technicality which I could actually meet but it'll still probably get rejected later down the road due to policy change or buyouts, etc.

I lost a car/jobs/and place to live. Every single company sent me straight to collections (which I abhor with every fiber of my being) except, Discover=the impetus for my being eager to settle this account. I repeat I was eager!!!! The gentleman I dealt with, quite obvious to me,,did not have the prerequisite skills to both listen and hear my words.

The recent transgression against me was I was told (quite rudely by a woman who needs to lose her job immediately) after being charged for the 3rd time I repeat 3rd time overdraft fees because the money did not come out. Discover's stated company mission includes: "Our mission is to help people spend smarter, manage debt better and save more so they achieve a brighter financial future." Their values include "Doing the right thing," "Simplicity," and "Openness." Their practices are not in service to their mission and do not reflect their values. I recently learned I've been paying a raised interest rate (almost 28%) based on a late payment I made in 2012. Discover's rep informed me accounts are reviewed every six months, but that there is no record of my account ever being reviewed, and that the inflated 28% will continue to be the interest rate on my current balance (they did offer a slightly-lower rate of 23% on future purchases). I have never been contacted about this.

I did ask, and Discover will not correct the interest rate on the current balance, even though my account was never reviewed after they raised the rate, and they will not offer anything else to make up for their ongoing overcharging. To give them another opportunity to earn some of my trust back, I asked about some of the benefits they offer to incentive new customers, and they rejected that olive branch as well. Discover is not a good company to work with, and anyone investigating opening a credit card account should look elsewhere.

Just went through a dispute with Discover Card. The dispute lasted 15 weeks! If you think Discover has you covered, you are sorely mistaken. Discover got rid of many of their perks in 2018. **. I have been a consumer with Discover Card for more than 20 years and did not realize that they were cutting so many of their benefits. During this dispute process, I found out exactly how much Discover cares about their long term customers. Zero, nada, zilch. I was told that it didn’t matter how long I had been a customer and whether or not I had ever disputed anything before.

I was lied to repeatedly by Discover. I asked if text messages between myself and the post office would suffice as evidence that I never received my packages. I was told yes. After providing this information, I was told that it was not evidence. I then provided an email from the USPS stating that I did not receive the package. Again, Discover Card said that the email was not proof. I got on a 3 way phone call between Discover, the USPS and myself during which USPS stated that I did not receive the package. Yet, again, Discover said that was not proof. Discover claimed that the only proof they would accept was a letter on official USPS letterhead that stated that I did not receive the package. Really, Discover? I’m not sure why exactly you think that your long term customer for 20 years is trying to swindle you out of $70.

Finally, we had a 3 way phone call between Discover, the merchant, and myself. In the phone call, the merchant admitted that I never received the package and was due a refund. Discover stated that this again was not acceptable proof. Again, Discover said that the only proof they would accept was a letter on official letterhead that stated that the merchant would provide a refund. Luckily, the merchant did the right thing and jumped through hoops to satisfy Discover. On 5/30/21 this letter was provided to Discover. Apparently this was still not enough evidence for Discover. The case was sent to a 3rd party chosen by Discover that would make a final decision. The third party decided in my favor on 06/24/21. Really? You were already told by the merchant that they would refund my money, but Discover took 25 days to make a decision. Furthermore Discover had to be told what the appropriate decision was by a 3rd party.

During this process, we repeatedly asked Discover to call USPS themselves and call the merchant themselves. We were told that they don’t have phones. Really? There is not phone at Discover? I called them on the phone repeatedly. I guess their phones only allow incoming calls and not outgoing calls? I suppose no one their owns a cell phone either. Seems bizarre to me. Seriously don’t waste your time or money with this incompetent company.

I have been that pain in the **, calls all the time, nitpicking, obsessing customer and Discover has gone well above and beyond every single time to resolve my issue(s)! All representatives are incredibly knowledgeable, well spoken, and go out of their way! Employees for most other companies will play the “other department” blame game, pass you back-and-forth, say they don’t know (and not offer or try to find out), blame other companies, or even put you on hold for long times only to be disconnected in the end. Instead these employees work together across-the-board, communicate with each other well, and take really good notes (so I’m not repeating myself).

I am not making this review based on one, two, or even three experiences, but many, many experiences and this has consistently been my experience. Every single person I’ve spoken with has been from the United States and all have been incredibly knowledgeable, well trained (you can tell they cross train in other departments), and respectful. When they didn’t know the answer to something, they found out; all I had to do was ask! They always have a good attitude and continue to go out of their way even when you are frustrated. Best of all, there are never long holds or endless automated systems! A couple days ago I actually was transferred correctly to three people for two separate problems and in under 8 min, my first issue resolved and I was already speaking to the last one for my other problem (which was resolved only a couple minutes later) —MIND BOGGLING!!!

Also of note, I’m not treated well bc I am some top tier client. I started with my Discover It secured credit card and gave them $200 of my own money to borrow. I paid off my balance every month religiously and without me even having to ask, they refunded my $200 and increased my credit limit to $1000 six months later.

I’m realizing this sounds like some fake review (at least that’s what I’d think if I read it), but rest assured Discover doesn’t need to seek out positive reviews, they’re already there. This has just been my experience. I felt compelled to make this review because I have been that person that doesn’t review often, but when I do it’s usually negative and I felt compelled to do this one because they have truly pressed me that much!! There are only two other companies I have done business with in the world (not credit card companies) that have impressed me with their customer service, but Discover tops them both! Please keep up the good work Discover! You have made a customer for life (provided you don’t change) and you are RARE! Thank you for making this part of my life as simple as it should be! My experience with my Discover Credit Card was fine until I noticed one day that I wasn’t getting credit back when I was paying my credit card like normal. I talked to customer service twice once in March and today and they said I enrolled in a temporary hardship program where my interest rate and minimum payments would be lowered after 12 months of paying on it but my account would be suspended still even if I paid it off. I told both of the CS reps that I never consented or signed anything to get lower payments or lower interest rates.

By the way, the lower payments were $20 and that’s what my payments already were. Without knowing this, I contacted customer service in January, before talking to those two people, asking for the person to help me set up payments for $50 a month. Why would I want to pay $50 a month if I was in a hardship and wanted my payments lowered. It makes zero sense. I never consented to this and never signed anything. They are saying that I had to have signed something to enroll in this program but never did. Also, they say they can’t do anything about it. It’s ridiculous I can’t use a credit card that I’m paying on and even if I pay it off.

Last November thru December, Discover offered a $45 Statement Credit promotion for a first-time Sam's Club membership purchase. I purchased a first-time Sam's Club membership by using the embedded link on the promotional email. After 6-months of waiting for the statement credit to appear in my account, I called Discover. The representative claimed that I activated the promotion at ~ 5 pm on 11/28/2020 and purchased Sam's Club membership at ~3 pm on 11/28/2020. According to the representative, since I allegedly activated the promotion after the purchase, the promotion did not work and I was denied my statement credit. After the call, I looked through my Google account activity on 11/28/2020 and found that I visited the "Register Your Membership -- Sam's Club" webpage at 5:40 pm on 11/28/2020.

Thus, it would be improbable for my Discover Card to be charged by Sam's Club at ~3 pm if my web history showed I purchased the membership ~ 5:40 pm, which is also around the time Discover claimed I activated the promotion. With the evidence I've found, I reached out to Discover again, but they maintain that if all terms and conditions of the promotion were followed, the statement credit would have been posted on my account by now. However, this time they did not give me the specific reason why I allegedly did not meet all their terms and conditions for the promotion.

The $45 statement credit itself is not of significant monetary value. However, I purchased a membership that I would otherwise not have purchased solely because of the promotion. I made sure I read the fine print and activated the promotion according to the vague instructions. After all these precautions, they still managed to deny me the promotion. If they can provide hard proof that I did do something wrong then fine, but if they made a mistake I just want them to be able to make this right. I can certify that all details provided are accurate and true to the best of my recollection.

I called the car wash, they apologized and sent me a coupon for a free wash for my inconvenience.

Discover took the side of the third party billing company and reissued the charges to my account. They sent me a letter stating this and said the supporting documentation was attached. What was attached was five blank pieces of paper with nothing but the Discover logo on them. Blank pages were their supporting documentation. I've had at least a dozen phone calls to various departments at Discover and they've had excuses but no solutions. The car wash has stated that they've issued credits through the third party billing company. My guess is I'll have to hire an attorney to straighten out $140 in fraud because Discover Bank is completely clueless. The card has a $30000.00 credit limit and I've had it for years. When this was completed, I could no longer see my original 0% APR account, as I was planning to pay it off so it would not revert to that usurious penalty rate of 25% or whatever they charge for going over the agreed upon 18 months. That is, any payment whatsoever I made, would go into the new now combined account, and some small portion would go to the older balance. BUT in other words, they said I could not pay off the older balance transfer in full, unless I paid the entire balance before April when the original rate period would end.

They said they could see both accounts on their side of the system, but said I could not see it on my side. They said, THEY WOULD NOT SET UP TWO ACCOUNTS FOR ME. I told them that this was a scam, and I wanted a supervisor. When she came on the phone, she just hemmed and hawed, and said there was nothing she or I could do. So I told her that I would be going to Consumer Affairs and the BBB and Federal banking regulators to report this scam. All of which I have!! I applied for a Discover it Card late December of 2020. I was approved immediately. My $200 security deposit was taken from my bank account 3-5 days later & I anxiously waited for my card in the mail. Once received I attempted to activate it immediately through the Discover app. After many failed attempts I ended up on the phone with a representative. The first one from technical support who asked me to read him off the numbers that started with “A”. 10 seconds later he says my card is ready to use. That was the 1st lie. After attempting to activate my card again, I call to speak with another rep. After my call being passed around a couple times I was finally given the exact reason why my card wouldn’t work. That reason being that apparently the social security numbers didn’t match & all they could do for me was deactivate the card, close the account, refund me my security deposit & start the process over.

HOW is this even possible!? How did the application even go through the entire screening process (including being asked TWICE to insert your SS# & an error message if they don’t match), money taken from MY bank account (attached to the same SS#), a card printed with MY name on it & sent to MY address which is ALSO attached to MY SS# but the numbers don’t match! The rep tried to convince me that sometimes it’s a computer error that inserts phone numbers instead. I don’t understand how she would even think that response made sense because SS#’s and phone numbers have literally a 1 number difference.

After speaking to a rep from the fraud department & a SUPERVISOR, I was informed that I would receive my refund in 10-30 business days after the account closed. At the very beginning of Feb. I spoke with another rep who told me that I could have gotten my money refunded back to my account before it was closed. I told her that I had spoken to at least 6 people before her & nobody ever offered me that option to me. She informed me that my refund should be to me by the 23rd. It is now February 26th & after speaking to yet ANOTHER rep. I received NEW information that apparently I need to go through two billing cycles before they can process/print my check. It’s not expected to reach me until after March 12th.

This is ridiculous! How do you take my money from an account that supposedly doesn’t even match SS#’s but don’t direct deposit it back as quickly as it was received?! & then send the customer through loops to get it back! How is the SUPERVISOR misinforming customers on information she should KNOW!? None of this makes sense to me. I can’t believe they wasted so much of my time & continue to waste paper to send out notices & blank bills. I originally applied because the reviews were good. Other users obviously have had better experiences. I didn’t. I won’t be reapplying.

I thinking of getting a lawyer and see how this can be handled. Not happy.

I’ve been waiting for this credit to pay off a new purchase (had to return a fridge from Sears and buy a new one). I was told it would take 30 days but it’s been for more than that and now it’s costing me. Complete scam to their customers. And horrible representatives that give out false information. Will be switching to a better company.

Discover is very nice to speak with, 5 stars for their actual team member support. One star, like noted above, solely for their new physical card designs. Their new cards (we have the IT card) has printed on numbers, not raised numbers. We are 0/2 in new card success over the past 7 weeks. Two of the cards have come, right out of the envelope, with the printed numbers distorted in one example and in another an 8 was already scratched or misprinted such that it looked like a 3. Hahaha, would seem there is a print issue and certainly a robustness issue with their new print solution in recent batches.

Then on the second card the chip failed immediately. Now a solid 7 weeks without a card. IDK, I mean, one would think a credit card company would want a somewhat robust physical credit card to give customers. Suggestion for Discover to at least bring back the raised numbers, then if the print wears off who cares, could still read it. I took a photo of the chip on the front of the new card that failed in numerous chip readers on first day active. The small grid lines you can picture on the metal chip looked more like squiggly lines (would guess the chip machine had an alignment or punch issue with that batch). Discover is sending via Fedex the 3rd card now in the past 2 months. We asked if they still had the older design to send us, they do not. If this 3rd card has issues, honestly, we have no other issues with Discover to share here but we're going to then cancel the account (can't use it anyway).

On Black Friday 2020 I was the victim of a scam involving gift cards. One would think that Discover would have a program that denied multiple charges of the same item in the same denomination in the same location during a constant one hour and fifteen minute time period (preceded by the same purchases at a Pick-n-Save store for 58 minutes!). I have been told it's a matter of "free will." To ask for the charges to be reversed in a reported fraud case was equated to breaking up with a boyfriend and requesting Discover to refund my charge because it was a bad breakup!!?!

My charges were never confirmed by me, I believe the scammers had access to my online account IF there were any confirmations, Discover reported to all three credit reporting agencies that all disputes had been resolved during the dispute time, and now my charges are back on my new credit card (which will be closed). No one is interested in the refunds offered by Apple Support (yes, I now realize they are part of the scam). I do not believe there is any fraud protection offered by Discover when you really need it. There was no advice on how to proceed the night of the incident either (as far as dealing with the stores where the charges were incurred). How much money did Discover make off this scam totaling $13,500?

The plastic on the item I received was defective along with scratches and small dents. I put it back in the box to return as soon as soon as I pulled it out. I requested a return when I was told to keep it. Months later, (since August) they reversed the charges and charged it to my account as a charge for software that I have never purchased when in fact it was a Simplehuman trash can. I called to find out that they had gone out of business so Discover refused to credit my money knowing the item wasn't what I had ordered /defective. I had snail mailed all of the emails and photos. We have had a Discover card since 1984 and never had a problem. After this, I will never use a Discover card again.

I opened a Discover credit card and immediately enrolled in their automatic payment system. Unfortunately, that system didn't work and the first 3 months of payments weren't automatically paid like they should have been. When I reported it to Discover they admitted they were wrong and removed all the late charges for those payments, but they refused to remove the negative items on my credit report which means for the next 7 years I have to pay for their mistake by having bad credit. I don't understand why if they removed the late charges that they wouldn't remove the credit report items? Anyway it was such a negative experience that I would not recommend Discover to anyone. Get a Visa, Master Card or American Express instead.

I applied for a card to do a balance transfer. One was 10k, others small. My credit 7k, so they could not do the 10k, so I am thinking ok, let me make sure they didn't charge me and I was indicated the 10k wont process since well 7k. Without informing me they transferred balance on the small ones (don't care) but like 5k from the 10k, I did not want it if it was not full amount. I was not informed, emailed or anything, I don't check account everyday practically who does, but checked several times. They did the transfer 12/14, and when I called they said they could do nothing when it said pending on my account, but apparently it was already transferred.

How are majority of customers to keep up with all this without asking us if our credit line does not meet transfer amount if we wanted to continue with transfer? Know why they didn't ask? Cause they are a greedy scummy company, and if they wanted to truly they could cancel the transfer, but they won't, because they are evil. If I was rich, the president etc, they would magically be able to. Do not do business with this shady company which doesn't work with common sense and processes to keep you informed in a timely manner. They sent me email 12/15 informing me, so I call to cancel and nope too late, why send me email now and not way before? They the type to use some small print in corner no one sees as a way out. Avoid, when I'm done paying this off (now have one additional bill, thanks Discover) I'm done with this scummy, greedy, evil company.

Discover Card has proven itself to be a lousy company. I had been a customer from 1994 - 2020. Out of the blue, I called Discover to ask about a charge I saw on an old bill. I wanted to confirm that I was not paying for a service that I did not use. During that call I was told my account had been closed. I was surprised. I asked if there was an unpaid balance or delinquency. There was none of those things. Then about two weeks later, I received a letter from Discover Card indicating that they had closed out my account for lack of activity... I was thinking, "What are they taking about? Aren't we in a pandemic?"

Well, the answer is Discover claims that they have proprietary lending guidelines that inform these decisions. The guidelines appear to place no value on customer relationship, nor on time payment, nor good standing account status. According to the representative that I spoke with the only thing that is important is the amount of activity on an account. But, as I noted 2020 is the year of quarantines and stay at home orders. So, it is true, I was not using my Discover card. Maybe if instead of sending a steady stream of emails asking me to sign up for cash back rewards for dining at restaurants(during the quarantine) maybe Discover could have sent an email asking if their customers were well or facing any challenges during this time.

Either way, my relationship with Discover is over. They do not value customers and the services they provide are the same as any other credit card company. Do not do business with such a callous company. Almost every business has seen a decline in business this year - it's just that all of them are not cutting customers at the knees.

Discover claim they sent me a letter telling me to use my card but they close my account without my knowledge affecting my credit score gravely. I will never do business with them again. Everybody should be aware that if the card closes it decreases your available credit affecting your credit score aggressively. Discover did not feel the need to educate anyone about this.

I've been a loyal member of Discover Card family for a few years now and have never been late nor missed a payment. Recently due to Covid and unforeseen circumstances at work due to the pandemic, I was stuck in a situation that I could have never imagined. Fast forwarded to a few days ago when I was release and had to open a new bank account and made the payment with that account, but after seeing that the payment was not deducted from my new account but other credit card companies has been I called Discover and they advised it was my fault that I must have done something incorrectly when entering in my information - they didn't care to be understanding or show any compassion for what I was say or have been through, they only cared about their payment and when ever happened to my credit was basically on me. I'm so disappointed.

When is comes to true customer service, caring, and the idealism of due diligence when it comes to customer satisfaction and the understanding they were dealing with a global pandemic and that it's affecting certain individuals differently in variety ways. I urge you to think differently and show a little compassion and understandings for your loyal customers, and for that you've failed miserably.

I received a "new card coming" email, and sweated out the extra week it took to arrive long after the time range specified had passed. It came today and I could not get it "turned on" either by robot or a customer no-service person. Their online chat was useless, saying that everyone was gone to vote. It's called big people planning. Oh. I also specifically do not want the "tap to pay" thing that came with it, but what the heck. Awful service, terrible way to do business.

This is an excellent credit card for their cash back rewards on quarterly categories. The categories change every three months and are not always in areas we use a lot. But when they are, they are worth a whopping 5% back on categories such as gas stations, restaurants, wholesale clubs (Costco, Sam's, etc.), Walmart, E-Bay, or even any online merchant. Past problems of acceptance at some merchants have been resolved: the Discover card is accepted almost everywhere now.

The card is FREE (no annual fee), billing is accurate, and their attention to online and PoP purchases is exemplary. While Discover's interest rates are on the high side, this is no issue for people who pay their balances every month. The cash back rewards are also very easy to use. They can come as balance credits or be applied to PayPal or Amazon purchases... or even as checks if desired. There are also no restrictions on types of purchases they can be applied toward. One caveat: except for the wonderful 5% categories, the cash back reward is comparatively very low on all other purchases, so I only recommend using this card for those quarterly categories.
