I had a Discover Card for 3 years. Always paid on time and even paying off the balance a few times. Then out of the blue I get an email that I am over my credit limit. It turns out they lowered my credit limit for some reason which caused me to be $200 over my new limit. They did notify me that it was lowered several days later and after it was over the new lower limit. I tried reaching out to their customer service first via chat. After getting no response for 15 min that way I tried calling only to be put on hold for almost 20 min before finally hanging up. I have shelved the card and will pay it off once and for all and want nothing to do with Discover Card after this.

My husband and I have been loyal customers for 3 years and never had an issue with paying our bills on time because we had automatic payments set up. January of 2020 Discover decided to not take out the payment we realized in February 2020, we called and was ensured that the manager had fixed the problem. Fast forward to March 2020 and nothing has been fixed. In fact Discover reported to Equifax for miss payment which has dropped my husband's score 63 points. So we decided to pay off the entire debt February 2020 but discover have yet to report the pay off. #unsatisfiedcustomers #donewithdiscover

I have been a loyal Discover card holder since 1997. On the January, 2020 statement I double paid $5,380.00. As soon as I realized my mistake during the first week of February, I contacted customer service and requested a refund. Unfortunately I have had nothing but a terrible experience ever since. I have been calling multiple times with no satisfactory results to my problem. The information I am receiving from different account managers is contradictory and confusing. Each time I call I get a different story. "The check was already mailed", "we are sorry it wasn't mailed yet", "it was definitely mailed", "you might receive it any day", etc, etc.. I have spoken to supervisors and to the billing department. I spoke to another account manager who told me that the check was mailed on March 3, 2020. This the same check that was supposedly mailed weeks ago. This situation makes me rethink if I really want to be a discover card customer at all.

I called them to figure out my mom’s credit card dispute. They were very unprofessional. They transferred me to the wrong department and made me repeat myself so many times, and when I said that I had already explained, the customer service representative was very rude. I do not recommend that you ever open an account with them. Chase, Capital One and of course American Express are the best. The experience with Discover has been very mediocre.

I asked for a line of credit increase and was privately sent a response based upon my review with my experience. My FICO score was low when I started and increased over time. I received an increase after 6 months to 1 year of $50. Paid on time and never skipped a payment, my credit score increased since enrolling and was given an unsecured card after 1 year. Privately (Discover inbox) I was told... "chances of getting an increase is slim to none" after giving my honest opinion about this consumer.

Discover card is a great credit card but it has been two years since they said they will call me for more information. I waited two years so, at that time, I going to give up on a credit card from discover and look for a better credit card. I tried calling customer service during the past two years and telling me the same thing that they sent my discover card and has arrived. The mailing is correct because I get my orders from amazon to my doorstep when I get home. So why is it so hard for them to send me a credit card? It felt like they don't care about their customers and only want to take your money and leave you in the dust which has been two years for me even though they said that I have an account all a sudden when I don't even have the credit card in hand. What a waste of my time if they keep sending me emails when I don't even have a card.

I was Discover credit card client for quite a long time. Less than a year ago the balance on the card was 0. I just decided to use other cards for a while. They closed my account before the end of the year with no courtesy call to even check if I still need the card or want to be their client. After noticing the card doesn't work, I called them to see what happened. They told me to reapply for a new card. Their TV ads really do not reflect their actual customer service. Now I see it is actually no wonder most merchants do not even accept it.

You guys wait until I have used the card and made payments on a daily basis now, especially since the cashback program is amazing. She said, "Yes. Unfortunately this is the company's process." It’s completely unfair because I googled their process and so many people accounts have been closed once they are taken through this step.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act should not allow this process to be take. Companies like Capital One will verify you before sending you the card and allowing you to use it. Just a bad business practice and experience overall. I can’t wait for them to come back and say, "We confirmed your identity and have now unlocked your account" so I can say. "Please close the account, Thank you!"

We've been with this company for over 30 years. In the last few years, they've been on a steady decline with customer service but today they struck a new low. After being on hold over several hours, not one person could help me with a simple problem. They need to clean house and train all of their employees to be knowledgeable AND genuinely helpful. Knock it off with the "I know how you feel" canned responses. If you knew how I felt, you wouldn't have given me the runaround like you did today. I highly recommend VISA card where you get great service and the employees really do show they care.

Discover has a unique way of handling credit decreases. My credit line was cut in half after paying 70% of my bill. I called and was read a letter (not yet received by Discover) as to why my credit line was decreased). It didn't make much sense to me seeing a loan was taken to pay off most of my credit cards balances. Essentially, I did not have any MORE debt. I had the SAME amount of debt but all bundled into one payment. Typically, your credit score will go up. Discover punished me by cutting my credit line in half, now making my balance almost 100% of what I owed. Thank you for that, Discover.
Amazing that Discover would run a credit check on an existing customer that had an outstanding payment history and just made a huge payment on his account. That's the way they roll, folks. You will get punished if you made a big payment and deprive them of their interest. So disappointed after establishing an account with an exceptional history.

Discover claims that Transunion sent a credit summary stating that I had "collections or derogatory" items on my report. I have Never missed a payment on Anything! I contacted Transunion and they vehemently denied that they did this. I have a copy of their credit report in my hands as I am typing this. The customer service rep at Discover said that they are Never wrong and they cannot make those type of mistakes. She said no one would contact Transunion on my behalf to rectify and confirm this and that even if I sent them my credit report from Transunion it wouldn't make a difference. The Discover team is hurting people. Don't deal with these people!!!

To begin, I'm a National Service Member with AmeriCorps VISTA and we serve on the very same platform as the US Military. For more information on this, please visit the National Commission on Military-National and Public Service. After I informed them that we live on a stipend three times below the Federal Poverty Threshold, I was told that the they had a program to help Service Members pay back their balance.
I agreed to enter that program, but the problem was they only recognize the Military. They do not respect the Service of others. I informed them that I was not Military so I would not be located in any of those databases. The operator told me that she would run it anyway. I did not protest because I already knew what the results would be. They were very unempathetic and even told me that my service was not an excuse for my bill not being paid. Unfortunately for me, I had just left my job after being bullied really bad, and had depleted any and all avenues of financial assets to cover basic Bills such as rent, utilities, food, car note and gas. All other monthly appropriations were in jeopardy of not being paid because I had no money. So I tried to make ways of covering those bills, I became frustrated when people were not trying to work with me and I said forget it.
As soon as I obtain gainful employment, I will make plans to pay those appropriations and clean my credit back up. Moving forward, I now have a job that I start in three days. But before I could do this, Discover filed a frivolous lawsuit against me as if I have negated my bill with them. You only sue if the client negates their bill. I'm not contesting my bill. I obviously owe the money and it's in my plan to pay the bill but this was so unnecessary and places me in jeopardy of losing my job. How am I to pay if I lose the job I just received? I caution everyone in doing business with Discover. Get another Creditor and not these people. Respect everyone's service, because it may not impact you now, but down the line you will benefit off the backs of those whom you ignored.

In fact, over the summer they gave me a credit line increase. Now come January I just received a letter reducing my credit limit. By reducing my credit limit it has increased my credit utilization and negatively impacted my credit score. I have other cards, including Capital One, Chase, American Express and they have never done this. Again, I never missed a payment on any credit account and I always pay more than the minimum. This practice is ridiculous and will now affect my credit rating. Once the card is paid off I’ll never use this card again. Everyone beware. Six months ago, I became unemployed for only a few weeks. Since I had NEVER missed a credit card payment with Discover, I decided to call in to see if they had a program that would assist me through my unemployed process. The representative "recommended" the unemployment program that allows them to charge you just a little "interest" each month and you must also agree to pay their set amount towards your credit card bill each month. Also, you have to agree that your account would be suspended for SIX months with no available credit. This sounded real good, so I agreed so I wouldn't miss a payment and fall behind through my unemployment process.
I made every single payment, sometimes above the amount due, which was 130.00. To my surprise, when the SIX month was up, and every payment was made on time, I called to see what my available credit would be and when the hold would be taken off my account, and I was shocked when the representative informed me that my account would continue to be suspended and I would not have any available credit until the account is reviewed. When I asked when it would be reviewed, I was informed only ONCE a month. This is NOT what the representative informed me when I signed up for the program. I had no clue that my account would continue to be suspended. If that was the case, I never would have signed up OR agreed to the program. I feel that the program is DECEPTIVE and MISLEADING to cardholders.
This is the Christmas season and I thought sure that after meeting all of my obligations that I would have instant access to my available credit. I am extremely disappointed in Discover and how I was misled. I DO NOT recommend this program to anyone UNLESS you're going to be unemployed for MONTHS! I will never agree to ANY of their programs in the future and I will also stop using my credit card from Discover for a while and just use it for emergency purposes only. Enough to keep it active. They were Misleading, DECEPTIVE and spread MISINFORMATION!!! I feel like I am being PUNISHED for being unemployed for just a few weeks.

I applied for Discover card just to boost my credit and since it offers free credit score each month to keep track of your score. I then got into a dispute with a merchant that got my signature on blank signature sheet that was copied and pasted onto payment requests. Discover paid out. I contested on grounds that this was fraud, but Discover said since I gave them my credit card number and signed a blank sheet of paper, I was authorizing them to do anything they wanted.... This same merchant is flagged all over the Internet for pulling scams like this, but Discover pays them and then leaves you with the bill at high interest rates. They side with the merchant, as others have noted -- when the whole point of getting a card is to protect the consumer.
Worse, while Discover employees are very nice and helpful, there is a frat house atmosphere I got whenever I called, like they were having a grand old time making money hand over fist and just partying it up instead of taking their jobs and the consumers' concerns seriously. Discover said that the merchant could come back at any time and charge me since they had credit card number and a copy of my signature that they could paste onto anything and obligate me to pay. Even if I were to get a different number, the account would still be linked to me and Discover would pay out. If this doesn't show you that big business is in bed with credit card companies to screw the consumer, I don't know what else will. Instead of helping my credit, this card HARMED it. I canceled my card.

Discover kept the credit which I drew down upon as I used the card. In October I traveled out of country and missed a payment of $285 and change. Forgot to pay one month and my card was declined when I tried to order "take-out". When I called I got the response of "how would you like to clear the balance". I have never even been late on a payment let alone not pay my bills. They said it was due to inactivity, but that can't be true. They cut my credit line from well over $10,000 to $500! Then, I used it before the close date. They said they sent in a letter. I called them before it has even been closed and they refused to keep it open. I am not sure how that can happen. It is probably in the fine print somewhere that I agreed to. There has to be a loophole for them. But, really? Save this for the people that don't pay their bills. Canceling my account affects MY credit. At least leave the small credit line and not cancel it. But, they insisted that there were no options other than canceling.
For a company that pretends customer service is a priority, this demonstrates the opposite. I would have rather had a $100 credit line than have the closed account hit my credit. This is just wrong in my opinion - especially the part where it wasn't even up for discussion. In the end, don't even get a Discover Card. I chose Discover as a starter credit card for my daughter for emergencies when she travels. About three weeks after having activated the card her, normal use, payments to keep the balance down, the account was frozen. A call is received stating Discover is reviewing her account and would like a Social security form SSA-89 filled out and a copy of her Social Security card. She was locked out of her online access and all calls inquiring about progress are being routed to their Verification Department. They refuse to say why her account is frozen. I accept that fraud is rampant, however I am grateful that my daughter's travel plans outside of the U.S. was deferred, she would have been without a credit card. Three weeks later her account is still frozen.
I have contacted and confirmed with the Social Security Admin. that all is in order with my daughter's social security card. Further her Credit reports with Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax are accurate. For kicks she decides to check her Discover online account and gets access. Opening the FICO score link within the Discover account she finds her TransUnion data shows she has 3 Accounts, 3 years of credit, 1 missed payment, derogatory public information filed and several late payments! She contacts Discover FICO Department, they state "we cannot access the information being posted and it's all TransUnion's data". Of course TransUnion says her account doesn't show what is posted by Discover's website. Big Rabbit hole.
Oh, fortunately she took a screenshot of the FICO score page, as she cannot access/locked-out of her Discover account again. We have faxed a screenshot of the Discover FICO page to Discover Verification, and filed a dispute with TransUnion. It should't be this hard nor take three weeks to resolve/verify a person's information. Oh and to boot, my daughter's college schedule is non-stop, so she requested numerous times to authorize me (her Father) to help resolve this issue. But Discover was used to pay charge on PayPal and they are supposed to go on their own policies. They got no evidence of the scammer sending anything which is what the scammers promised (software) and acted like that is what they were going on, but then changed and went with PayPal policy.
I had asked them initially as first question if they go by PayPal or their policy and they said they go by their own policy. They still sided with the scammers even with nasty text messages from scammer saying vulgar things to our 13 year old son and laughing that the police would not do anything that we screenshot and sent to them. Can't believe a credit card would ever do this so cancelled our cards. USAA would never do that and don't hesitate when bogus charges have been put on our card to cancel the card and don't ever charge us for any nonsense like that. Share this with others about PayPal and only use business and especially about Discover card!
Another thing I realized per PayPal policy since my son did this on our account unauthorized, PayPal decided to count it as authorized. I guess since it was our son??? Here is their policy that they nor Discover went by: You're Protected If: 1. You were charged for something you didn't purchase. This may mean someone has used your PayPal account without your knowledge or approval. Report it within 60 days and PayPal will investigate. You will be covered by our $0 Liability for Eligible Unauthorized Transactions program.

They were fine, until they weren't. I had 2 cards with them. I never used them. Complicated story but one was used accidentally by my company. Since I never used them, it didn't get paid until I realized what had happened. I remedied it, no terrible big deal. Fast forward 18 months, and I think about using Discover again. I contact them, ask questions. And now all of a sudden after they do a credit inquiry they decide that due to that single delinquency that they should have known about for 18 months, they want to close my card. Trying to communicate with them was ridiculous, getting cut off and transferred around until I was able to just close the card. Good riddance, and never again would I consider working with Discover. So many other better options.

First I was approved online for card in Aug 2018 with 2 year old bankruptcy and credit scores with the Big 3 Bureaus ranging from 604 to 640 (no late delinquent or collections). Got online confirmation citing $800 line of credit at 13.99% APR, 5% quarterly cash back and 1% purchase cashback. Then get letter in mail raising APR to 24.74% and no other changes due to bankruptcy and low scores. Okay, I accepted that. Used the card responsibly, no late pays, no fees added, no going over limit, and then had to buy a car so for 9 months stopped using card trying to get used to having car payments and managing finances so being responsible, I didn't charge up a bunch of purchases to cause a financial struggle and adversely affecting Discover.
Two days ago I checked my account online, planning to purchase furniture and planning out how much I can spend and what monthly payments I can handle. Saw I had a cash back reward balance and that my line of credit dropped to $500. Then at 10 pm that night (Saturday) get an automated email telling me that my account will be closed due to inactivity and poor credit report(?) in 30 days. My credit scores had raised by 71 points and 50 points and 80 points with the three big bureaus since account had been opened. Still have the bankruptcy but it is 3.5 years old now instead of 2 years old, these are the only changes on my credit report other than the car-Nothing Adverse-All Improved!
I call Discover and they say too bad. So first they ding my credit score by dropping the available credit limit. Then they are planning on hitting my credit score again by closing the account a month later!!! Who is running this place? How unbelievable and this isn't made up. I am not sugar coating my situation by trying to look picked on. This is all factual. Rather than rewarding me for being a responsible customer and improving my financial situation, never giving them cause for concern, they shut down my account with credit reports 10 times better than the credit reports when I first got the card!!!

I have had my Discover card since 1992. I have had to contact their service dept only a few times but every time a real person (English speaking) answers the phone, they are polite and very helpful. Recently I call the service line. I thought a payment did not get posted. It turned out to be my fault. They reversed the associated fees and interest for me anyway. I paid the balance amount immediately.
In general I do not recommend going into debt. I use this card for everything I can and pay the full amount every month. However, if someone is responsible and needs a good card, I always recommend Discover. Their service is great. They have no foreign transaction fees (which is a pain for expense accounts). Their fraud protection is the best (I never complain when I get a call from them for a suspect charge). And customer service is great (worth mentioning twice). I highly recommend Discover Card.

Discover is malicious and sneaky. I was one of their card holders that used my card regularly with a great credit score they paid my bill on time. Now I have other credit cards. I just got use to just using this one. Now let me tell you that Discover locked my card up and wouldn't tell me why until I spoke to the six representative and even then it didn't make sense why they did it with me being in good standings with them.. Then later I got email from them threatening me to give them access to information that they aren't privy to knowing.
So needless to say they closed my account without telling me and I had 7 days to pay the balance off or they were going to mess my immaculate credit up. So I had to pay 13,000 off in one day. I am thankful I had it because most people don't keep money saved up to the magnitude. Now if you can just get a credit card from Bank of America or American Express because they don't do illegal sneaky stuff or American Express because they don't do illegal sneaky stuff.

I paid the card off three months ago and have not used it since. This will result in a negative mark on my credit report. I spoke to the "specialist" who closed my card and he said there was nothing he could do. He noted that my other credit card balances are too high, I have a public derogatory record (from 2014 and was on there when they approved me and is paid off), and I have a new personal loan. What they didn't note was I have not had a late payment since 2011 and that late payment was a student loan, my score has increased and I have paid off three other credit cards in the last three months. I recently made an over the phone payment for the full balance on my card. Four days later I received an email telling me there was a problem with the banking information. I immediately called and was told that I had the choice to pay again over the phone or pay when I got the next statement as they would just add the original amount due to the new statement. I asked if any fees would be assessed and I was told no after the person checked. I summarized that my options where to pay again by phone or pay later on next statement and there would be no fees and that was verified by the representative. I choose to wait for statement and pay. Of course the statement arrived with added fees.
When I called up I learned they also put my card on hold! Two days after I called them back!! Nowhere on the statement did it say that my card was on hold nor was I told this prior. On the phone they refused to release my card and tried to shake me down for a lousy $70 bucks right there! I explained that was not what I was told and the person said they couldn't do anything until they reviewed my previous phone call. Apparently 29 years of loyalty with almost no late pays in all that time means nothing and I must be lying. The person promised to call me back that evening by 7 PM. No call back. Called the next day and again was treated worse than a criminal. I am now waiting for a call back which will happen in 72 hours. Card still on hold racking up late fees with my auto-pay accounts attached to the card. I do NOT recommend doing business with this company any more!

Nowhere on the screen (I have screenshots) does it show anything out of the ordinary, however, due to 'inactivity' they closed my account 2 months ago. The only answer they could provide was "We sent you a letter" (Bear in mind, I do everything electronically with e-statements) and that I could "apply for a new card" if I would like.
Their online system tells you there is an available balance even if there isn't. I will never do business with a company that misleads its customers, is unwilling to reactive a card that was "closed due to inactivity" two months ago, and impacted my honeymoon. Contacted "customer service" to see if they could write off the interest and I would pay $575. Not only did they deny me (I've never met a company that is so unwilling to work with its customers) but when I paid the balance on the account in full the card still showed $19 owed.
So back to "customer service" I've now been on the phone with them for over 30 min and been on hold for most of it as someone tries to figure out what happened. Last person I spoke with told me I could just pay it! Are you kidding me!?! I'll never have a Discover card again. I received more charges at much higher amounts over the next month and a half... altogether costing me nearly $400.

The person at the convention upon processing my charge while I am en route back home is confronted with "Purchase Declined" by DISCOVER FRAUD DIVISION. WTF? Prior to this, for over 2 months I have made a preponderance of purchases with the DISCOVER CARD all hours of the night for way more than $591 to no avail of any question or regard. So I call DISCOVER and inquire about the declined purchase. It was a RANDOM decline of AUTHORIZATION. In other words they throw DARTS at a DART BOARD and if they land on your CC NUMBER you are DECLINED. The vendor has no history of bad sales or bad credit card activity. I have never revolved my account once in 20 years. I never approach, even close to my credit limit.
In the final analysis, DISCOVER has changed in my Professional Opinion to not just a ZERO RATING BUT SUPER ZERO RATING. Their unintended DECLINE also costed my business a CLIENT because of a week delay to be able to engage in Professional Services i.e. NO TOOL! CANCELLING all 5 of my cards and will NEVER use DISCOVER AGAIN! I hope this helps someone who is considering a reliable Credit Card Company. I has several Business Bank Cards to fall back upon so I will move on, but, for a person starting out, DO NOT RELY ON DISCOVER, go anywhere else. Thank you Consumer Affairs for the platform to discuss these otherwise marauding credit companies.

Discover Card Company does not work with you during a financial hardship. While some people may just stop paying when they cannot afford the minimum payment my mother was forthcoming with Discover. We've called them 3 times this week to try and head off as much as we can problems with paying the current monthly amount begging for a financial hardship repayment plan like ALL OTHER CREDIT CARD COMPANIES OFFER when the debtor calls the company to let them know and avoid bankruptcy.
My mother is struggling so we reached out to all of her other credit cards and let them know about the increase of new monthly expenses due to health problems. All credit card companies assisted with plans reducing the monthly payment significantly but at the end of the payback the account would be closed. Discover first offered a $220 monthly payment for only 12 months and also told us to call a credit counseling service Discover "recommended" to decrease the monthly payment further. We did just that. And after calling their "recommended" credit counseling service their monthly minimum payment would ONLY save my mother $4, yes, FOUR DOLLARS.
Each time we call Discover, Discover "pretends" to thank my mother for being a card members since 1997 but this means absolutely nothing. So we called back Discover and said their credit counseling service could only decrease the monthly payment by $4 and my mother would have to PAY the credit card service $39 per month to get this INCREDIBLE savings. We told the lady we called the day before and then called the credit card counseling service as Discover recommend us to do but since that was a joke we would like my mother to take the only measly option this credit fraud company would provide $220 for 12 months.
The "customer" service person who kept saying, "oh your health is important" said, "No. Sorry that rate is only for 6 months and then you'd have to wait for another year before you could qualify for another financial hardship program." So we were forced to say, "Okay let's think about bankruptcy". The next day, 3rd call, we called Discover again, today, and asked for the plan again for the 6 months at the lower rate of $220 and the lady/guy said, "Yes okay but FIRST you have to pay the higher amount". WHAT?!?! Why are we even asking about a hardship plan knowing she cannot afford the monthly minimum due if the person demands the normal higher rate which she cannot afford. If she could afford the higher rate we wouldn't be asking about a financial hardship plan for God's sake.
So my mother having this card since 1997 and having a balance around $10 for all of those years this company has made more money 5000 times over what my mother has owed with the 24% interest rate. This company is horrible. Do not get a card with them. They don't even seem to think and it's clear money is not important to them since we are now filing bankruptcy.
Imagine, a guy owes you $5000 and says, I'm sorry I can't afford the $1000 per year but I can do $500 per year and it's ok to add more interest and the guy says, "Nope. You'll have to file bankruptcy so I can get NOTHING". That's what Discover's business model is, so funny. No wonder people who take this card are far and few between. Absolute nonsense and made my mother call and call and call all the while giving wrong information, changed information and saying no to helping her but we could hear the "smile" in their voices when they said, "Your health is the most important thing we so hope you feel better, goodbye".

She was arrogant and cheerful to the point of annoyance as she put me on hold numerous times and each time told me she could NOT remove the late fee AND they would NOT contact the Credit Bureau. She informed me that was MY responsibility. Her 'customer service skills' are horrible and her lack of education which caused her to put me on hold numerous times embarrassing. The rewards are by far the easiest to understand and redeem. They update your FICO score monthly on the website, and even have a page explaining it. Purchases are categorized to help with budgeting. The customer service is better than any other company I've dealt with; agents are knowledgeable and friendly. I recently had a disputed charge and it was resolved quickly and easily. I'm extremely disappointed with this particular credit card company. If I could give less than 0 I would. We decided to pay off one of our credit cards because we're focusing on eliminating debt. We paid off the balance on one of our Discover cards and because they felt that our credit score wasn't high enough even after paying off the balance, they decided overnight to just close our account. We thought they would find it as a good thing to have the balance paid off but they just wait for you to pay it off and then kick you out even after years of being with them. Disappointing company.

I’m able to use my Discover card with all my purchases.
I enjoy my cash back rewards, low interest rate, credit limit, refer credits, and most importantly the service I receive from their employees. I had made all my payments on time, always exceeded my minimum payment and had not maxed out my credit line. This after being with them for years. There was no reasoning with anyone whom we talked to at Discover, they were all rude, arrogant and condescending. I kept the account open till 2019. I had to close the account because my wife wanted her name removed. Only way to remove it, was to close it. Now years later when I notice how my account balance has been low and the rest of my high balance cards are paid down, I submit a credit line increase and they decline it. Mind you I have 7 credit cards. Amex - 15k limit, Bank of America - 7.5k limit, Chase (2) - 6k limit, Capital One (2) - 5.5k limit, and a Credit Union card with 7.5k limit on it also. Discover has the lowest limit with 1.4k but also has the highest apr @ 24.74%. I have $56 on the card just to leave some money on it so I don't actually use it because the interest is too high.
I spoke with the customer service lady and then with the specialist and they keep talking about this system and computer program stuff. My debt to income ratio is 340k annually with 10k of revolving debt!!! What computer program are they using!! The best they can do is say sorry but this is the system. Terrible terrible company. My husband ended up having to pay close to $7,000 because someone hacked his Google Play account and Discover would not back up his claim that it was fraud. Some of the charges he noticed late, but some he noticed within the correct time frame. He did not get any of the money back because Discover claimed since they could not prove it was not him that he was "responsible" for it. He even went through the correct procedure to claim a dispute, took hours going through his Google Play account to write down his actual purchases and those that were fraud. Which is exactly what Discover asked him to do. His actual purchases were very minimal opposed to the hundreds of dollars being charged to his account. The worst part was he received a phone call stating the investigation was complete and that he would not be responsible for it.
Then a month later Discover calls him back saying he is now responsible for it. Discover claimed that since he had made purchases in the past they could not prove that these were not his. The entire point of fraud is to make it look like the person actually bought the item, however, since my husband has bought things off Google Play in the past they would not back him up. They are a useless company whenever you need them to actually back you up as their customer. I would not recommend getting a Discover card at all. One highlight of a credit card is that you can dispute charges and get your money back if fraud happens. I do not trust this company anymore and my husband decided to no longer use their services. We have told our family and friends about this because we hope that this does not happen to anyone else in the future.

I had not used my card in months. I called Discover. They said it was a reoccurring charge since March. I called the company ASKNOW, they told me I would need to speak with a manager. None was available but they would call me back or call back tomorrow. I called Discover back and opened a dispute case. They only reversed 4 out of the 10. ASKNOW said I was to stupid to look at my bill and will not give me any more credit back.
As a Discover customer you would think they would see this as fraud since I did not authorize a membership. They refuse to do anything else for me and advised contacting the BBB. The BBB is still waiting for a response from ASKNOW, they do not consider a few complaint cases a big matter. There are much better companies out there with much better customer service... We are now regretting even going with this company in the first place.

I contacted Discover after six months. Sent in all the text messages between myself and the merchant then was told by Discover I waited too long, Discover supposed to be an American base company but when a fraudulent charge was made on Discover card they turned their back on me. I have owned many credit cards over the years to take advantage of 0% interest, discounts, etc. Discover is by far the best credit card company I have worked with. I've had the pleasure of utilizing them as my main credit card for over 10 years now. Their 5% cash back reward program is awesome and their superior customer service is next to none. I'm always connected to someone quickly who I can understand and who understands me. Credit disputes have always been resolved in a timely manner.
Most importantly, Discover notifies ME when they suspect fraudulent activity on my account. I keep a close eye on my account, but most recently, Discover reached out to me when someone had hacked into our Chipotle account and was racking up multiple transactions on our Discover card. Once I verified the activity was not ours, Discover immediately stopped any more transactions from hitting our account, closed our account, and issued new cards that were at our doorstep in two days.

I recently switched all of my recurring monthly expenses to Discover. BIG MISTAKE. One of these was the fee on my storage unit for $145 every 21st of the month. Discover froze the Dec 21 charge and suspended my card. WHY? The Oct 21 and Nov 21 charges for the same amount from the same merchant were right there on the account. What could possibly have prompted them to suspect the Dec 21 charge? I called them and asked them to please contact the merchant to ask them to re-run the charge. They refused. I asked them to explain why the charge was flagged as suspicious. They refused.
I have to take the time out of my day to verify that the charge is legit and then call my storage place and ask them to re-run the charge. I cannot trust a card that simply allows itself to go bat-crap crazy and not pay my merchants. What if there had been a late fee? Would Discover have paid it? I cannot have this uncertainty hanging over me. From now on, I will only use Discover for their 5% categories and nothing else.

Discover has violated their own T&Cs and denied my genuine claim stating I returned my item. Returned items definitely are excluded from the price protection and I agree to that, however in my case, the item was NOT returned. I still have the item. Background: I purchased a computer on 10/26/2018 and I submitted my claim on 10/31. I later in the week stopped by at the Walmart store to buy '3 YR Protection plan' on 11/03 for my computer as Discover Card would no longer offer extended Warranty. Instead of just selling the 3YR extended plan to me, the Walmart Manager decided to return my purchase and re-sold it along with the protection plan. This is what he did, and now Discover denied my claim saying I returned my product. NO Discover NO... The item is still with me and I have all the proofs to show I still own the item.
Also I was not aware that just by doing this Discover will deny my claim or else I would have not gone to add protection plan. This is one of the worst customer service, and this shows how this company chose to abandon their customers. I have been using their cards, and now no more... No Discover. Also with such poor customer service, I would hesitate to use Discover ever again. Just want to make people aware of such inconsiderate customer service by Discover even at their Executive levels. When I reached out to them, they simply said, "Yes we understand what you are saying," but Walmart says, I have returned the item. Discover is honestly a really horrible and greedy company. They appear friendly and honest at first glance but this is an illusion. Discover makes an art out of ripping off their customers. They will patiently await for your balance to increase at which point it's too late for you unless you have the cash to pay the full balance at once so you can close this scam card.
After the intro APR expires your interest charges and min. monthly payment will balloon every month until you're no longer to afford to keep forking over more and more money just to keep up with interest charges. Even a low balance of under a $1000 becomes unmanageable. At this point they will start hounding you and have no interest in helping to get your account back on track. They will sue you as fast as they can and tack on countless late and court fees. I was happy with this card for a year or so until their scheme for maximizing profits by ripping off customers became horribly apparent. They will legally steal your hard earned money one way or another. Please Trust me. Stay clear of this company and you will thank me later.

As a single mother, you look for ways to lower debt and keep your finances in order. Like many, I had some debt and I was tired of paying a fee each month on that debt. I was tantalized by the Discover card commercials that portrayed card holders like family and offered no fees and 0 APR for 14 month. This sparked my interest as I knew that I could pay off my debt way before 14 months. The no fees sounded fabulous to me. So I applied for the Discover card and put in for a transfer. The transfer had a fee, of course, but it was less in the long run than getting a fee every month. I received my new card in the mail and I activated it immediately. I noticed that the transfer was not on my information. I gave it a couple days to see if it would show up. I had not received any notice that Discover was considering or even processing the transfer.
When I still didn't see that the transfer was on my statement, I thought that I may have done something wrong. I applied for the transfer again and it worked, but so did the first transfer. Frantic, I saw that I not only had a credit of 3000 on my old credit card, but I acquired more fees!!!! Upset, I called Discover card company and explained what had happened. They apologized for the happenings, but they explained that they could not put the transfer back, nor could they take that the extra fee off. I started to get really angry. I spoke to a supervisor and he too said the same thing the customer service rep. did, but added that I should be excited to have extra money on the old card for the holidays coming up. I could have reached into the phone and strangled him. I don't need extra money, I need to get myself out of debt.
I called the bank that my old credit card is with and it is going to take 30 days to get that money from the credit card to my bank account so that I can turn around and pay off one of my mistakes. Discover does not treat you like family nor do they care about their customer. I have learned from my mistake and will pay off my debt as planned then cancel the card with Discover. They will NEVER get my business again!!! Frustrated Single Mom.

I have been a Discover customer for about 12 years, first with a credit card and more recently with checking and savings accounts. I always loved Discover and thought the company was the total package with great card benefits, helpful account features and excellent customer service. I often recommended Discover services to family and friends who frequently took my advice and opened Discover accounts.
However, over the past year I have noticed that the company's customer service has really gone downhill. I understand that with fraud on the rise, security measures are getting tighter. However, now it is nearly impossible to get anything done quickly and efficiently. And it has become a huge inconvenience. I have had some account issues arise lately that I have reached out to Discover's customer service about, both on the phone and through the secure messaging system. The phone conversations have lasted for far too long and still didn't resolve the issues. And the secure messages I have received were usually (eventually) helpful in figuring out why certain issues were occurring, but failed to help me resolve the issues.
What really set me off and prompted this review is that I sent Discover a message letting them know how frustrated I was with the service and how difficult it had become to complete simple tasks, and all I received back was a generic response providing Discover phone numbers and examples of things that could be done on DiscoverBank.com. I am very disappointed in this response and in the way Discover has operated lately. I have started the search for a new credit card, checking account and savings account. I certainly would not recommend Discover to anyone now.

I have been with Discover card for a long time. I have not been making a lot of money for a while, self employed so my income varies, but I have been staying current with payment. I have reached out to them many times for help. They have never been able to give me real help. They gave me the number to money management international, which I called. I had what I thought was a useful phone call, and was told to call Discover back with the new information, which I did. When I got a hold of the people at Discover it was the same old story, there was nothing they could do for me. The worse part was when I got transferred to Curtis, his advice was simply pay more on the account, I had to remind him the reason I was calling is because I could not make a full payment and was asking for assistance, out of 2700.00 in payment this year only 1000.00 was applied to the balance.
Apparently taking 1700.00 out of 2700.00 is as helpful as they can be, since a year ago when they shut the card off and put me in this special account, with a APR of 13%, that was no help. They say I have to wait another 12 months to be eligible for any other programs. My advice is to find a different card, Discover card is set up to keep you down if you make any mistakes with them regardless of how long you've been with them. Very uncaring people on the phone, they say the same thing regardless who you talk to.

This will most likely fall on deaf ears, but this company is a joke with their crappy customer service. It started a few weeks ago when my wife was on their website paying our bill and there was a warning for us to call in to discuss a possible breach to our account. So, I called Discover to discuss this warning we got, mind you that we never got a call, email or a letter, and I was worried as to what may have happened. It turns out, that a company I used my card with may have had a data breach and my card could have been one of those affected by the stolen data. Now, this is where it went south for me. Discover acknowledged the issue and already issued me a replacement card and canceled my current one. I was upset that it took for me to place the call to them to find this info out and to top it all off, they will not tell me who the company was which is BS as why would you protect these thieves and not your own customer.
Their answer was that it is their choice to withhold this information from their customers which is why they issued me another card. Ok? But what about my other cards that can be stolen like theirs if I continue to use this unknown company again in the future and it's obvious that they didn't care about their customer and only this other lowlife company who stole the data. So, in anger, I told the supervisor that I wanted to cancel my account and I'll take my business elsewhere. Of course, he didn't even try to save the account and began to ramble some gibberish I didn't understand and said, and I decided during the way phone call to not close the account as I wanted to speak to someone else about the issue, but it was too late, he said what's done, is done.
I said how is that so when we're still on the call and I didn't want to close it or understand the gibberish he was spewing, he stated that I didn't hear him and it's too late. I then called the executive office to complain and after they reviewed the issue they too said there is nothing that can be done. I find this all to be BS. You're telling me that if one of your staff closes an account by mistake, that's it? Nothing can be done? After spending thousands of dollars with them, this is what you get. No compassion or care in the world to your needs. I'll be sure to pay off the balance, so they don't get an extra dime from me in interest.

Please, I beg you to choose one of the other many credit card companies available to do business with. This is honestly what happened to me. Well, I was a card member since 2004, and I never had a late or missed payment. However, I decided to close this joint account with my husband since we were going through a divorce. The payment was made in full at the end of July, this year, to pay the card off completely, and on August 2nd, this year, I even called Discover to be sure that there wouldn't be any other fees or interest added to the account as well as to confirm that the account was closed, which had also been previously requested prior to the payoff to ensure that no other charges would be posted to the account.
Discover ensured me over the phone that the account balance was at zero, there were no other charges coming through, and there were no additional fees or interest that would post to the account. The representative even said that everything had been taken care of for this account, and there was NOTHING ELSE we needed to do. Well, I just got an email alert from my credit monitoring that my credit score had decreased. I checked it to find that my credit score had dropped almost 100 POINTS! Yes, 100 POINTS due to a late payment from Discover.
I immediately called Discover to find out from them that INTERESTINGLY enough on just the day after I spoke with them on August 2nd, August 3rd, this year, there was an interest fee added to the account for approximately $21, which I had no idea about since Discover never sent me a bill for this interest via regular mail, email, nor text. Well, this approximately $21 in interest that was added to this closed account damaged my credit, and there was NOTHING Discover was willing to do about it.
To continue their fraudulent, sneaky, and underhanded scheme, the very phone call from August 2nd that would've proved that their representative told me that there would be no additional interest or fees added to the account, according to them, wasn't able to be pulled, because AFTER 60 DAYS, THE SAME amount of time it takes to report the late payment to the credit bureau, all phone calls and conversations customers have with them are deleted! Call them to verify this for yourself! What does Discover have to gain? Getting rich off of the additional fees being added to the initial fee that they didn't want to tell you about in the first place. I hope you're following me. If not, trust me on this, go with another company.

Discover Card…employees and management were beyond corrupt IMHO and based on what I went through. I purchased ProtonVPN service through PayPal using Discover Card as the source of funding and that was when the nightmare started. I did not receive the service and since Proton was unresponsive I put in a dispute. Proton closed my account and refused to refund. I put in a claim, Proton said I had to close the claim to get the refund and then a crooked employee at PayPal told me the same thing which is strictly against PayPal policies when addressing a customer claim. I put in a chargeback through Discover. A month later Discover reversed the chargeback without emailing or mailing me.
I called their Salt Lake City and a female employee in customer service confirmed they had gotten an inadequate response from PayPal – she said just having my name and credit card information does not make it a valid charge. She reinstated my chargeback against Proton/PayPal. A month later once again Discover reverted the chargeback to me. I called in and two male employees in customer service told me tough luck despite the fact that even PayPal had found in my favor. They told me to resolve this with PayPal. I called and talked to PayPal's US manager. He confirmed that they found in my favor and had sent the funds back to Discover card. I called Discover back and spoke with another female employee in customer service. She investigated and then told me she had good news that the PayPal documentation ruled in my favor and that the investigation was closed.
Discover strangely enough made this a courtesy adjustment. Odd but at least I got my money back. I also received an email confirming that the investigation was closed and they found in my favor. A month later I checked my account and Discover had once again reversed the chargeback and had written that the charge was valid in disputes. I called in and spoke with a male employee and was told there had been another response from PayPal which I proved to him was a complete lie. He could produce no documentation from PayPal proving his claim. I registered a complaint with the CFPB. The charge again went away and Discover magically produced all the letters I was supposed to have received – also a lie. Disputes still showed charge valid.
I complained to their corporate offices and their investigation was a complete farce. Discover never took any action against the male employees that lied and refused to put me through to a supervisor and corporate admitted they did not know why. They tried to browbeat me as to the charge being valid and lied about how PayPal processes chargebacks. I finally cancelled the card. So are employees at Discover siphoning off money and keeping it off the books if they get PayPal funds and then claim they did not get them? IMHO they are one of the most dishonest lending institutes in the US besides PayPal. The total time frame from charge to dispute to claim to chargeback to final refund to canceling the card… March 2018 to October 2018... Seven months! Avoid this scam credit card company at all costs!

I opened a Discover card because we were in the process of purchasing a new home. We needed to purchase appliances and several items for the home. Since we had quite a bit of purchasing we needed to do, we wanted to take advantage of their cash back matching. When I opened my card, they gave me an exceptionally low credit line. The credit line they gave me was 1/10th of what my other credit cards had which made absolutely no sense. My credit is prefect, no late payments, paying every account in full every month as well as my credit score being in the 800s. I was very upset by this but hey, I figured I could make it work.
I asked them if I overpaid the account to make my purchases if that would be okay. I made several calls each to different agents confirming this could be okay (to cover my basis and have records of my calls) and was told by every single agent it was fine. So I overpaid the account by several thousands of dollars and proceeded to make my appliance purchase. In the store my purchase came up declined. I called Discover to find out I could not make the appliance purchase and was limited to my credit line no matter how much I overpaid the account. I was livid and embarrassed. I proceeded to make the purchase with another card just fine.
I then asked Discover to send back the overpayment. I made several requests and every single request was completed wrong and it took weeks and weeks as well as daily calls to Supervisors to finally get this processed. When it was processed, they not only sent the refund via electronic refund, but they also had cut me a check.
The double refund now put my account over my credit line and this was reported to the credit agencies which caused my credit score to drop 100 points. (I repeatedly called them and asked them to put a stop payment on the check. This was a nightmare as well. I never did or had the intention to cash the duplicate refund and told them I would send the check right back to them as soon as I received.) To this day I am still trying to clean up this mess and fix my credit because of them. I ended up closing my account after only having the card 3 months because they can't get their act together and my account has been a complete and total disaster. Stay away. Stay away. Stay away. Back in 2014 when I was in college I received a letter with code in the mail in regards to a Discover credit card. I called asking for more information with my mom. I told the rep I wasn’t interested but my mom was and she would like to open an account for herself. The rest of the call went well. They asked my mom for all her information, social, address etc. Told her they successfully opened an account under her name with a 3000 credit line. Come to find out 3 years later when I’m applying for my last year of college I get denied from the bank for a loan because I had an outstanding balance with Discover that my revolving credit was too high for my income.
I immediately called my mom in frustration as to what I could. Turns out this was her debt being reported on my credit so we called Discover together to report and ask what was going on. Apparently the card was opened as a joint account under my name with my mom as an authorized user! I told them that was incorrect and should have never been that way since they never got any of my information only my mother's. Apparently they used the offer code to do it without asking me for my consent to open a card. They were sending it for further review. December of 2017 asked my mom to stop her payment on the account and pay when it was resolved and switched to her name.
Well May/June of 2018 comes around. I receive an email of a late payment in my name. I call angry again only to find out they were not able to fix anything because I didn’t have proof. They then hit us with interest and fees and I told them no they needed to fix it so they sent it in again because at this point I had it. I was unable to finish my schooling because of all this and they were reporting to the credit Bureaus a limit of 500 now and an over the limit of 2500!! The total of 3000 I had before in which they couldn’t fix because they supposedly lowered my limit after a yearly review and now showed over 250% on my credit!
Worst thing is as of today August of 2018 I found out they closed the account and issued me another one so I had no knowledge of this ever. I never once received anything in the mail nor proof as to me opening an account. I have asked to hear the recording and they said they do not keep them for more than 90 days. I have been fighting with them for almost a year. I was told today that they can remove me and change it to my moms but she had to pay $1000 upfront and her credit line would be $500 so she would still show over $1500! They will not fix their error and are going based off of notes from different reps and are stating I am in the wrong. This is ridiculous. They have ruined my credit drastically.
I have spoken to many people today and have had it. One rep named Courtney was so rude and gave an attitude and told me “so” while another named Taylor was just flat out rude. Told me she didn’t know how the account went over the credit. When I said, "How if it was frozen and you guys should have stopped usage once it went over," that was their excuse for changing the credit line which they did when they closed the account under fraud for no reason and did a balance transfer to the new account. They are lucky this was my mother and no one else. I have never been issued a credit card with my name on it. My mom was the only one getting letters and she was the only one making purchases and payments. They never needed me for anything. Made no sense how they did this. Worst company ever!! So I log in to my Discover account, and see nothing unusual. The account "appears" active, with a zero balance, as I would expect. It even let me activate a 5% cashback bonus offer!!
I then login to my Credit Karma account to see some details, and it says my Discover credit card was closed in July (about a month ago). So I call Discover, and sure enough, they tell me yes, they closed my account because I didn't have enough activity on it!! Just like that! I ask for it to be reopened, and their response was "sorry, we cannot do that", and that "you can reapply for a new card". They do this fully knowing that 1) closing a 10-year old credit card with a perfect payment history will put a ding in the account holder's credit score, and 2) applying for and opening a brand new card will put ANOTHER ding in the said credit score. And why do they not even bother to at least update my account online to indicate that it's been CLOSED?
I have many other credit cards, all in perfect standing, and am generally happy with all of them. Comparing the service and value that Discover offers, I honestly cannot see any reason to continue doing business with them. There was a time when Discover USED TO have one of the best credit cards, and one of the best customer service departments around. That was many years ago. Something has gone seriously wrong with their management, which now seems to have absolutely no desire in, or any clue about providing value to their customers, or retaining their best customers.
Needless to say, I will not be opening a new Discover card account. I will not be doing any more business with Discover. Discover has succeeded in alienating me as a customer, and I have a good deal of influence on many people's choice of credit cards to obtain and use. And finally, to anyone here considering getting a Discover card, if you love erratic and unpredictable behavior from your credit card company that can mess with your credit record and score, not to mention with your day-to-day finances, by all means, Discover is the card for you!

I recently received an email stating that my Discover credit card had been closed. This was surprising since I always paid more than what was due, always paid on time and recently paid off my balance. When I called to inquire, they stated that they do credit checks every year and found that my debt had increased, I had several delinquent accounts and a few new accounts that I had opened.
I went in and check my credit report and while yes my debt had increased as I had to get a newer vehicle, along with a few other needed household appliances that can’t really be done without. I have never had a delinquent account although Wells Fargo shows that I was late one payment over a year ago which is also not true and I have been fighting ever since. This is very disappointing as I had always been a very good client who works very hard to pay all her bills on time. This is also very upsetting since this will only serve to bring my credit score down even more.

Closed my account without much reason - I tried very hard to keep my payments on time, pay everything in full, etc. Things that would give a good history for my account. I was able to bring my account to $30,000 available credit. All of a sudden my Discover card got declined and I called Discover and they told me there wasn't much information besides it was a "business decision". Wow! Just like that my credit line just got hit with a negative $30,000 credit. The rep told me I could mail them to inquire about the closed account. Not an email or phone number, but snail mail. I guess the way I treat my credit with Discover isn't good enough for them. Even though very disappointed by this I still would like to learn why and improve my credit.

In a nutshell: Discover Card closed my account--which was in very good standing with no late payments (perhaps ever? At least no late payments in the last few years)--because I didn't send in a copy of my Social Security Card and some other information even though I was in another country at the time! No explanation, and the warning came with very, very little time to do anything about it. I got the information to them as soon as possible, and they just closed it down.
The longer story, just to underscore how poorly they handled whatever they're doing: In the midst of intense traveling to multiple locations (including one location out of the US), my Discover Card was suddenly declined--specifically, when I was trying to take a Lyft to the airport. Discover didn't call me in advance to warn me and tell me what was going on. I called to see if I could resolve what was going on, and after a few minutes, I was kicked off the call because of a fire drill (6/6/2018, approx 5-5:30pm). At this point, I just had to use a different card because I was going to be late to my flight (and indeed barely made it). So I learned after calling back later that I had to send in a copy of my Social Security Card--and I didn't even know at first where exactly it was, because I hadn't used it in years--and some other information.
The guy on the phone said I had been sent a letter; BUT I hadn't received a letter yet, and all of this was due in days--even though I wasn't at home! I sent in everything as quickly as I could (later in June), even enlisting my mom's help in another state to track everything down. Still, without any explanation, they closed my account. When I returned from abroad, I saw the letter that they were referencing; because I was gone for so long, I have no idea exactly when it arrived, but it couldn't have been more than a week before everything was due. Perhaps they sent the letter to my old address even though I updated my address almost immediately after moving in my online Discover portal (about a month before this all happened).
I've followed up with Discover a couple of times, and they won't give me any information about why they closed my account. Someone who responded to my last inquiry said something about reviewing my account and my original customer agreement, which makes me think they decided I wasn't profitable enough and found a way to kick me off of the account--who knows. I had been a customer for over a decade. I made payments on-time. All I can think is that maybe they're struggling financially and offloading less profitable accounts--I have no idea. The lack of information and especially the ridiculous hoops I had to jump through in order to keep my account open even though I was in a different country, only to have my account closed anyway--were infuriating.

May 24, 2018, I made an online transaction, and just to confirm that the transaction went thru, I called Discover Credit Card company. They informed me that, “No the transaction did not go thru, and that I should go to the physical address to make the transaction.” So I did, using another means of payment. However, when the bill cycle came, the online transaction did go thru, and therefore left me with a big credit card bill. I spoke to the supervisor on the resolution dispute team, and they told me, they couldn’t do nothing about the big bill, even though they gave me the wrong information, and therefore created this headache. Not only are the rates outrageous (I have a card with less than half the APR), but it's obvious they don't want to help you with your credit rating. They are only out for the buck and how dry they can squeeze you. The customer service is totally lacking. They are not capable of telling the truth and of course, blame you for the high interest rate. When FICO scores go up and up, interest rates are usually adjusted. When they won't do that, it says a lot about the morals of the company.

I have been with Discover for over 20 years (that is, Discover has 20+ years’ worth of my credit history) and had a Discover Card that had a $29.000.00 credit limit on it. I then was divorced by ex-wife and was left with an empty house that I needed to refurnish. I stumble upon an offer for a “Discover it” card that among other things, offered me a 5% cash back bonus on all purchases made in the first 90 days, so I signup online and was immediately approved for a “Discover It” card, thinking I will use that card to refurnish my house and get a 5% cash back bonus. THEIR OFFER WAS A SCAM, the most devious scam I have ever encountered in my 65 years on this earth.
What ended up happening is Discover changed my credit line from $29,000 down to $3,000 and told me I couldn’t get my credit - line changed until I had established a credit history with Discover. What the heck – I have been with you for 20+ years, have a FICO over 800 for years running, and you already have a long credit history on me.
I called to get the credit line put back to where I could actually refurnish my house, but was repeatedly told by Discover that their ‘policy’ was that I had to establish a credit history with them before they would consider changing my credit line. Da… “How long does that take?” says I. “90 days” says the Discover supervisor. So I tell the Discover people that I have a creed I live by; “I like to do business with honest people who want to do business with me.” And I now realize that Discover ain’t honest people. Thus this warning to everybody, and thus the reason, after 20+ years of being a loyal honest customer of Discover, I have now cancelled all my cards with Discover, and will never do business with Discover for the rest of my life.
Moral – the “5% cash back on purchases made in the first 90 days” is just a total “bait and switch” tactic that Discover uses to get you to switch to their “Discover It” card. My advice to you is the same as several other people’s review of the Discover Bank company – BUYER BEWARE. DISCOVER HAS TURNED INTO A DISHONEST, UNETHICAL, NO INTEGRITY, SCAM-RUNNING COMPANY. (“What does it benefit a man to gain the world yet lose his soul?”)

I thought they were great until the first chargeback in 20 years. Not worth the problem and they don't deserve my trust or endorsement. They cheat you on a chargeback. In order to get their merchants to push and accept Discover Card and grow their base, they will always side with the merchant. They'll let you down as a individual favoring the merchant!!!
It happened to me over a hotel charge!! America's Best Value Bradington, Fl did not respond to the chargeback I started so Discover sided with them, after I submitted FULL documentation. What? That's Discover for you. I charged $3-7K every month & pay it on time always. They sided with merchant and they threw me to the dogs on this chargeback. I stayed 4 nights and the hotel says 6 nights, what a joke. I showed Discover that on their own card the gas & food I paid to get home to NC from Florida the day I checked out. Merchant won't cooperate with Discover on telling them the # of nights I stayed on this dispute so Discover sided with hotel even though I did send in all documentation to discover. Discover says they are a documentation company, THAT IS A BIG JOKE. DISCOVER ONLY SIDES WITH MERCHANTS NOT THEIR FAMILY OR INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMERS!!!
Please no matter what don't use Discover on any important transactions!!! Also no matter what Discover card says they are lying to you that they say they are a documentation company. They are not! I trusted Discover for over 20 years and the first chargeback that it was just $122.00 they let me down, I charge thousands a month and pay it off every month & never late once for 20 years. Compared to VISA or MC Discover is just terrible siding with the merchants and not their family customers. What an experience & bad example of a credit card company. I'M CUTTING IT, PAYING THE BALANCE AND NEVER AGAIN USE DISCOVER. Discover are not trustworthy. My wife and I have discovered! I wish I could post details to show my little chargeback is valid. I’m just really upset with the way Discover has treated me. I’ve had my card for years. It is the first card I opened on the road to building my credit. I’ve never missed a payment and never been late with a payment. I worked so hard to get my credit to where it was and it’s unreal how they just kick you when you're down. Life happens and unexpected expenses come up so there may be a time when your balance is higher than usual, but for Discover to close my account based on the balance of another is not okay. Especially for them to do so immediately after. They did not even allow for a period of correction or for things to be updated.
They closed the account and made a permanent decision that can’t be reversed over a balance was paid down literally a week after they reviewed it. When I asked what happens when they review an account while items are in dispute the answer I got was there’s nothing they can do and I will have to open a new account which is just ridiculous. So now when my accounts are updated and my score would’ve gone back to where it belongs it will now be ruined because of Discover's decision to close my account. It lowers my available credit, ratio, adds an inquiry if I try to open a new account with them, and completely destroys my length of credit history as it was the first credit card I got and I am only in my 20s. So thank you Discover.

Discover took my interest rate from 0% to 24%, after the initial introductory period was over. Quite a scam if you ask me. Beware, if you use this card. After a 45 minute talk around and a very frustrated mom, we decided to call in. They tried to tell us their reasoning for asking for copies of my SS Card, whether or not I was living in a Boarding School, and other invasive borderline unethical PII questions.
I have been trying to apply for the Student card for over three months now and just barely have I made any progress. This progress comes about after calling in and mentioning the unethical tactics and demanding a decision before we hung up. We mentioned that we would be notifying the FBI if they continued to ask for more personal information. Immediately I was told that what I have previously uploaded was going to work and no longer needed to upload new information as PII and was approved. I was then told how quickly my card would get here and what would come with it and how to activate it. I was not given the opportunity to opt-out of giving them permission to use and/or sell what I provided for PII.
I would definitely recommend calling in overusing the live chat, things get done faster and having a couple of hours to apply for this card. On the phone they can seem nice like the commercials but they do not provide resolutions. I got an email from a Mckay and then Sabina but neither got it done. They talk the talk in their TV commercials but the delivery and execution of actual execution shows that they are blowing smoke up our ass. Discover needs to actually listen to their customers and provide solutions. Don't just thank us for contacting them and choosing Discover but be truly authentic and provide real solutions.

I really do not understand all these negative reviews about Discover card. I have been with them for 9 years now, I have two cards, the Discover It and the Discover Chrome. They are great when you have a problem and I can understand them on the phone, unlike other cards where the accent is so heave I have no idea what they are saying. From what I gather on all the negative reviews, it is mostly people who mismanage their account and then blame Discover. All you have to do is be reasonable, pay your bill on time, don't go over your CL, and do any disputes on their website like I do. They are always fast to respond and they are very friendly. I love my Discover cards and you will too if you maintain your accounts properly.

I opened 10/2014 during a time of re-building my credit. Over the past 3 years I carried a balance, made every payment on time, and paid more than the minimum required. In those three years I was able to raise my credit score almost 100 points higher than when my card was issued. I was able to finally payoff my entire balance of $1300.00. My intention was to keep a zero balance but keep the card as a safety net till I built up my savings again. I find out 1 month before Christmas shopping season that I was no longer worthy enough to be a cardholder. I was punished by them for not carrying a balance. Be careful if you are someone that depends on this credit line, they treat a pay off as a negative. Credit One bank raised my limit as a reward for paying off my balance with them. Who treats their customers better????

I contacted Sears for a new garage door remote control and told them specifically what system I had. They sent the wrong item. I tried to send it back but they wouldn't send a shipping label. Then they sent the right product. I tried again to return the wrong product. They sent me a label to return the right product, which I wanted to keep. Then they told me I could return it to the store. When I went, the store refused to take it back. I asked sears again for a shipping label. They sent the wrong one again. After that, they said there was nothing they could do. I documented all the chats with sears, sent them to discover and said I would not pay for the wrong product that sears would not let me return. Discover sided with Sears, saying I had to produce proof that I had returned the item. How can I return it if sears won't take it? Apparently discover cannot comprehend catch-22. Anyway, Discover sides with the merchant, not with the customer.

I just can't believe, I'm amazed by the genuinity of the customer care and how they make your life so much easier. After my recent experience with hurricane Maria losing everything I not only never had to call Discover to ask for help, they had already set my account for a 3 months grace period to start paying them again from the catastrophe, then without me having to contact them, they set another courtesy one month extension until January, 2018. They have just called me because I am slightly above my credit line which is 5,000 and they even offered to place a $20 credit to help me balance that out just because they want to show their appreciation.
They are the most caring when it comes to consumer service. Plus they have the best products and offers. They helped me build my credit since 2015 when my credit score was 577 (Credit Karma). Discover sent me an offer and trusted me with a line of 4,500 which then was increased this year 2017 by 500. My credit was at 720 at some point this year thanks to Discover, now I have to start working my way up again thanks to a few poor judgement decisions like applying for several credit cards in short period of time and then having them maxed out because of the hurricanes emergency. If you are responsible and are searching for the best credit card, with lots of rewards, lots of features like account freeze, access to FICO scores, flexible due dates programmed by you, easy access to online statements and recent transactions, balance and payment history... stop looking, call Discovery, you're welcome.

Attention viewers, I am making a complaint about Discover Card. I want to file a complaint on my credit card Discover for being completely dishonest and for not following through with how they were going to help me a Bait & Switch merchant; they (Discover Card) basically conned and lied to me. I called and made a dispute on a television to Discover that I decline to accept when I got a receipt on free shipping I made online through a merchant. But 2 hours later I got a call from the TV merchant. They wanted to add $388 more for shipping. I said cancel order right now and they would not but they call me (the merchant) to ask if I would approve to $388.00.
I said no but I called Discover Card to report the matter that I declined a TV purchase as I provided them a receipt stating I had the actual price on the item and not the price I was charge on my Discover card. Discover said, "Ok, we'll investigate the matter," and they appeared to believe I was telling them the truth. But 2 weeks later, I look on my Discover account (as Discover never notify me too) and noticed they reverse the chargeback on my account. They said I agreed to the charge and I said, "No. I didn't". I send read the receipt, it says free shipping and I said I decline to accept order to the merchant but Discover said this and that but then they denied me.
They said they would step in to go after shipping fees and or trying to return the item since I gave them information they stated on the merchant's website. They would take returns on a certain size (Discover lied and didn't) and they also told me that since I was unhappy with the outcome, they would give me a courtesy credit of $500.00 (Discover lied on that too). Discover said we could call the merchant to ask them to take the TV back as I said they have information on their site stating but Discover card didnt do that either. I found it interesting when I spoke to the first person who took my information over the phone on my dispute and 2 weeks later, I spoke to another Discover claims person who wasn't helpful nor would she read them.
What I want is a complete refund, I was completely mistreated by Discover card disputes department but they also lied to me by what they were going to do, they didn't do. Seriously, why would I use my credit card for protection on this matter, I thought I had confidence with Discover would be there for me if I had a problem with the merchant but in this matter. Discover was not helpful at all and in fact I think they wanted the merchant to get their money so Discover could get interests from my credit for example because they had the facts right in front of them, plain & simple but they mislead me.
On top of this matter, I have read all these negative online reviews on Discover and it's all negative information so it's my view I am dealing with a credit card that mistreats their customers on so many matters that I have a reason to file my complaints because I am not alone on this matter. I feel completely cheated & mislead by Discover and I prepared to share my story online if they don't.

I was minding my own business one day, when I received a letter from Discover Card asking me to PROVE my citizenship… REALLY? I threw the letter in the trash and went on with my life. I have a CC account with them for over 10 years – no late payments, ever. Suddenly, the calls start coming in. Most do not leave a message, one caller hung on breathing into the phone until the machine cut off. Twice, a message was left urgently stating for me to call them back… Something about “security.” So I call back, thinking I am going to be told that someone is trying to get an account in my name, or that someone tried to use my card #... Something to that effect. No, I was asked a litany of personal questions, which immediately raised a red flag.
I have several credit cards and only Discover is doing this interrogation of their cardholders. When I asked why they needed more info, I was told that they can’t tell me. WHAT! So, I declined to answer the rest of the questions and said goodbye. A few weeks later, I go to make a phone payment on my Discover card, as I have done for years. I was immediately routed to a live person, who then started grilling me with questions. I again asked, what is this all about? Again, I was told that they cannot disclose that information. I stated that I just want to pay my bill. I was told that I had to answer the questions FIRST.
I felt like I was in the twilight zone. After arguing back and forth, I hung up. I was so put off by how Discover treats their customers that I called back to ask them to close out my account… In which I was told, again, that I needed to answer the questions before they would do that. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Something VERY shady going on with Discover.

I opened a Discover Card to take advantage of their lengthy interest free time period on balance transfers from another credit card and in fact I have had no interest charged on that balance transfer amount. I have also been using the card for regular charges at stores, restaurants, GAs etc and have paid those charges IN FULL each month. However interest has been charged on those amounts even though payment was made in full by the due date. When I called to inquire about this I was told that if you have a open balance on a cash balance transfer you lose the interest free period on regular charges. In other words you will be charged interest on regular charges FROM THE DATE THE CHARGE WAS MADE even if the regular charges were paid in full by the due date. Be very careful when deciding whether to open a Discover Card. It is not as consumer friendly as they would have you believe.

After another hour on the phone I received a message that a credit report was causing a problem. The death department told I would have to be transferred to another... I said close my account, send my refund and then all of a sudden my rewards disappeared. They were in cahoots with Equifax and did not care about their millions of customers because losing one did not matter.

I have to tell you that I am insulted by this. I have paid my bill without fail, since opening this account. Two years ago: YOUR machine reader debited my account incorrectly... that was FINALLY resolved, and my 'late charges' 'forgiven'. Three months ago, your COMPUTER PROGRAM stopped sending me invoices... for some random, stupid reason (...address unverified... WTHeck???). And, now, you send me an email with the verbiage: "This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained may be used for that purpose." REALLY????
I will have you know that I will not be using this credit card EVER AGAIN, I will pay off my balance and be done with you. You DO NOT have great customer service... even though your representatives are great, you rely too heavily on your faulty computer programs, and proceed as if the 'computer is always right', rather than, 'the customer is always right'.

So she refused to let me speak to her supervisor. Then she says I might qualify for a payment program. She asks a lot of redundant questions, I say yes to everything, she confirms my bank account number and social security number. I'm good to go. Then I receive an email saying that if I don't make a payment I'll be sent to collections. There's no mention of the payment plan. I wasted my time setting up. Discover Card is honestly the worst credit card and customer service I have ever experienced. I had been a member at Discover for over 10 years. During that time, I had never made a late payment, always paid off my balance in full and maintain an excellent credit score. On 8/31/17, my card was shut off. I received a letter in the mail two days later that Discover had "closed" my account. When I called to inquire as to why (several times), I was told that Discover "could not tell me why" and to "write a letter to Discover's headquarters." This is 2017. There was no reason why my account should have been shut off, and Discover couldn't/wouldn't even tell me why. On top of that, I had over $50.00 in cash back that was apparently, automatically revoked.
I called Discover FIVE times to inquire why I would not receive this cash back, and each time, received a different answer. The first time, they applied the credit --and then Discover charged it back. The second time, they told me it would show up in a few days -- it never did. The third time, that I would receive a check. This never happened. The way that I was treated -- after being a valued member for 10 years, was pitiful. To cancel my account without warning or reason and revoke the rewards I earned, is unacceptable. I will never again do business with Discover, and will actively discourage anyone I know to do the same.

I was billed 14 days later and monthly until July. Calling monthly to cancel and request a refund. I disputed the charges with Discover in June and the company did it again and billed my account in July. I did not send the bottle back in July to see what would happen. Discover sided with the company. This company is called Rippedx on the Discover transaction report.
When they got their legal department involved it was through a Limited Liability Company - Quell, LLC. When you call the company it is an obvious Indian call center directing you elsewhere transferring a few times and then they tell me to send product back. These are the companies Discover is protecting - it's pretty clear Discover probably cared more about the interest they will be making by making sure they re-posted the transactions back to the original dates to make certain they received the interest on 360$ my account is in. The one redeeming quality about it the Freeze button on the mobile app and it will stay that way until I transfer to another more consumer friendly card.

Applied online and received a call from Discover saying I was approved with a $7,000 credit limit and all they need is a copy of my Address and Social Security card which I had to e-mail (which first of all is scary over the web). I reluctantly sent the info over the web and then they sent me a letter saying I was not approved due to not able to verify app information.
Called them back to see if they got my SS and license and they said yes they got it and couldn't approve me after one of their reps already told me it was approved, This rep was also very snotty, THIS IS REALLY BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES DISCOVER!! Warning to potential customers, the app process is a Pain I.T. BEWARE! DISCOVER CARD DOES NOT PROTECT THE CLIENT/ CARD HOLDER - ON 11/23/16, I had a online buyer of a ring make a payment to my Discover card of $3400. I spoke with rep of Discover and was instructed not to give the ring until his payment cleared which would take 3 business days. Well after 5 business days I spoke with another rep and recorded the call. I asked him if payment had cleared and he informed yes it had 2 days ago. I then asked "is there any way in hell for this buyer to be able to take back this payment?" His Answer "NO MAM NOT AT ALL, The money is already in your Discover card account." I said, "then I can give him his item and be assured he cant take the money back???" He again Said "YES MAM. As a matter of fact you're over you're now PAID IN FULL and have extra money on card. Therefore would you like us to send you a check for that balance?" I said Sure.
He then put me through to another rep who verified that money was in account and took my bank account info to issue me refund check into bank since my Discover card was now paid in full with more money (approx $300). So I contact the buyer and he picks up the ring. 2 weeks later I'm on my Discover account and see that the next day 11/29, the buyer closed his bank account and was able to GET HIS MONEY BACK.
I called Discover, did investigation and they also verified that they also heard the recording on our conversation on the 28th and THEIR EMPLOYEE DID IN FACT assure me numerous times the buyer could not take the money back" but there was nothing they could do. As far I'm concerned DISCOVER card is responsible for their employee giving me that information. It's in my Discover notes today as I just confirmed.
