I recieved an email stating that I had been approved for a Visa Gold credit card. I recieved the account package in the mail a week later. I was given an available balance of $300 upon opening the account.

After reading through the paperwork, I found out that I had to pay a $150 annual fee, $29 account opening fee, and $6.50 every month as an account maintenance fee. Totaling $238 a year. When I talked to customer service, I was told I had to pay $20 a month to stay current ($240 a year).

I am leaving for Iraq in 3 days, and don't have the time nor money to pay the balance on a credit card I have never used. I don't feel I should have to pay $238.00 just because they sent the card to me. I was under the impression that I could read over the information, and decide if I wanted to keep the credit card.

I was promised (preapproved) a credit card, filled out the forms, and then denied the Visa card.

I already knew that my past credit would prevent my getting a card but their promise, along with the extremely high interest rate, led me to believe that they were willing to speculate.
