Riddle Wood attorneys at law is the collections for the Aspire Visa. I recently found out that the card was activated May 2005 and sent to Jacksonville, FL where who is now my ex-wife lives. Before this card was activated me and who is now my ex were living separately. I was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS and she was still in Jacksonville, FL. I never gave her any kind of power of attorney to be able to use my name in any way. There is no way I would have sent, who is now my ex, a card especially since I was deployed to Iraq from Feb. 2005 - Jan.2006. Right now I’m stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC and have been deployed since I’ve been here. I got back in Sept. 2007. My credit report was damaged by this claim when it wasn't even me that applied for this in the first place. The agent at Riddle Wood that I spoke to wasn't helpful - borderline rude.

I had a credit card account with a company named Providian and I was notified the account had been purchased by a company named ASPIRE. The account was already closed before it was purchased by ASPIRE and I was in the process of paying it off. Everyone here should know that a closed account means there can be no changes in the underlying terms and agreements including changes to final interest rate. ASPIRE sent me letters seeking to make changes to the interest rate terms and other terms resulting in reactivating an already closed account. I refused their offers but they persisted. They went ahead and changed the terms without my approval therefore I refused to pay the balance they had obtained from the previous card company. Since they breached the contract terms, they're entitled to nothing.
When ASPIRE realized they would get nothing, they sold the account to MIDLAND FUNDING. As many of you, I received the usual harassing phone calls, mail, and finally received a letter from MIDLAND FUNDING threatening to sue me. I was waiting for someone to serve me with a lawsuit. If you are sued by these companies, you should file a denial and counter claim for damages seeking the maximum allowed by the jurisdictional limits of the Court. When I met their Attorney (who was tantamount to a used car dealer) from Dallas outside of the Courtroom he said, "That was a brilliant move on your part". He asked me, "How long have you been practicing law?"
I did not tell him I had previously been recruited by an Assistant Attorney in the AG's Office to practice law in the Intellectual Property Division for the State of Texas. One of the entries in my initial answer was, "Abuse of Judicial Process in Furtherance of a Criminal Enterprise", and went into detail on their attempted criminal activity. FYI - The result of credit lending deregulation by the greedy, racist, fraudulent, Republicans. When the opposition saw that I was going to dismantle their fraudulent operation, they faxed a letter and sent me emails offering (begging) to drop the entire matter. They were so lucky.
The Judge (a Republican) was not very friendly in the Courtroom. This is significant because no one is above the law. They were so lucky I finally did agree to drop everything; I was about to move the entire case to Federal Court and turn it into a Federal Racketeering case where I would have been entitled to treble damages. The greedy, racist, frauds were humbled and have not been heard from since. They learned their lesson and the Judge signed a dismissal order to get me out of her Courtroom as quickly as possible. She was in such a rush she did not wait to receive my signed dismissal before she signed hers.
What this company and similar companies are relying on is if you try to get an Attorney, he or she will tell you, it's going to cost as much to defend you as the balance on this bill; therefore it is cheaper to pay the bill. Of course the problem for many of you is you never finish paying them. Another bill is ready to come as soon as you pay the first one. The idea here is if it's in writing - printed by a computer - it must be legitimate. As one Federal Judge has said about white collar crime, "These people don't change their ways until you've introduced them to a pair of handcuffs." The moral of the story for these frauds, be careful on whose toes you step. It could be your last step.

I have had this card since 2002 or longer and started at $300 and now $500 and has high interest and never can make it to go to over $500. They will not review my account. They will not do anything. You call, the place is like talking to people from another country and do not understand nothing you are saying. I have tried to change my pay days and it does not help who I talk to. The late fees are way too high and if whatever reason I miss or a payment, they get late. Even if my availability is $300, they put a lock on the card and I can't use it...

I have had my Aspire Visa for a number of years. In September I received a call 4 days past my due date demanding a payment of $80 to bring my account current. I made a telephone payment--I did not have my bill in front of me. I postdated the payment until September 26, my next payday. The payment was debited from my bank account on September 26. A few days later, I received a notice that my charging privileges were suspended. I looked at my statement and realized that the $80 that had been demanded was not actually the minimum payment--a fee had been applied, bringing my account over its credit limit, although that was never mentioned to me by the telephone collector.
Had I not realized that, I would have had yet another late fee charged in October--I should have been told that I needed to pay $139.13 to bring my account both current and under the credit limit. I had a great deal of difficulty getting through to Aspire over several days. I finally spoke with a representative, who referred me to a higher department. That man said I should have known about the overlimit fee--it was on my statement.
First, Aspire dunned me inappropriately when I was only a couple of days past due. The representative gave me to understand that I had to make a minimum payment of $80 to keep my account in good standing. The account was closed a couple of days later, and had I not looked at my bill I would have had ANOTHER overlimit fee--but I was only overlimit in the first place because of the late fee, and the representative deliberately tried to trick me into being overlimit again. The late fee and overlimit fee are $35 each.
Aspire VISA has received hundreds of complaints and settled a class action suit for $11 million in the state of New York in 2006. Could you please cut me in on the class action? Or take action for DC residents? These scum bags should be put out of business.

I have had an Aspire Visa Card for many years, first they changed the interest rate from 9% to a much high amount. Usually I was an automatic payment customer, because I AM RETIRED with a fixed income. At any rate, when you are are a auto-pay person you dont need to monitor your bills, but in March, 2008 I realized my bill had increased instead of decreasing. I called the Company after reviewing the bill--stating the were paying AOL 24.99 each month without my permission. The charges from AOL caused the account to go over the credit-limit; as well as a late fee--even though I wasn't late.
AOL denied they charged Aspire Visa, but they did recognize they had made an error. They pretended to have taken the money from Chase Bank to avoid it looking like fraud. July 5, 2008 AOL was supposed to have paid they money back, but Chase refused the money because it was sent to the wrong Company. Also for over 2-years, I have been billed $10.45 for AIG Life insurance and I have called many times for the telephone number because I never received the policy. The only reason I trusted the insurance company was because Aspire advertised them in my statement with other ADDS.
I need all of the fees corrected and all fraudulant charges deducted from my account. Please help me in this matter, I am trying very hard to correct my credit-rating.
These consequences have caused my blood-pressure and my nerves to become worned because I am a cancer-survivor and that is stressful enough. I cant get an apartment, because in New Jersey the Landlords does credit checks,

I received a notice from Aspire that had the following information: We regret your decision to not use your account. This will confirm that your account has been brought to a $0 balance and cancelled.
I had no idea what company this was,nor did I ever hear of Aspire Visa. I have the Creditkeeper program, that I pay, to keep tract of my Credit Report. I looked thru the record they send me, and could not see a past or present record of ever having Aspire Visa. The report also lists all credit's that have been closed. Nothing about Aspire Visa. I looked up Aspire Visa on the web and almost choked at what I read. Complaints after complaints from consumers against Aspire Visa. Most of them had at one time used this c/c company, but there were also those that had never had that c/c, and they were sent the same letter I received. They stated that following this notice, they were sent a summons for various amounts due, and given a court date.
There are people in our country that are getting ripped off by Aspire Visa, and I do not want to be one of them. I have worked very hard keeping my credit clear of any negitivity, and I want to keep it that way... IS THERE NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT THIS COMPANY TO PROTECT US?

I have an Aspire Visa Card & faithfully make the payment every month. Well, for the payment that due on 8/29/08, I mistakenly sent ASPIRE the wrong check & THEIR check to the missions by mistake! As soon as the missions mailed the check back to me, I sent it out to ASPIRE, explaining what happened. I ALSO emailed them (BEFORE the due date) but NEVER got a response! INSTEAD, they get 'Compucredit' to HOUND ME! Over a payment that was due only a week ago! And ASPIRE even cashed the WRONG check!
My payment was supposed to be $104. I had sent them $110 and they since they cashed the check meant for the missions, they have another $3 of my money! So, that's $9 over what was due! And NOW they are saying (they haven't got the correct check yet) I owe them $214.00! If someone at their company could read English maybe and answered my email, this wouldn't be happening!
This 'Compucredit' company keeps calling! Since i don't have my own 'Land-line' phone, it is annoying my roommate, whose Dad just passed away!

Aspire keeps overcharging me late fees and over limit fees. I usually paid on their website. It took a while for me to realize that their website does not function! Payments I had posted there were not cerdited to my account. When I called their phone number, they would always tell me I had to pay more as I hadn't made a payment- I had- but on their website!
Talking to reps never resolved the problem. My debt just keeps getting higher and higher, and by my calculation it should be going down by now. They are unfair, and their phone reps are disrespectful a nd downright nasty when you call them. I have other credit cards and I am up to date on paying all of them. It seems that Aspire chooses to keep me (and I'm sure many other people)confused and unsure of their debt- that way they can continue to rob money- and that is exactly what they are doing!
I need help! Please! Please advise me of any other alternatives that I have to stop this company from continuing to rob me. Thanks. Consequences are only further debt, possible credit agency reports, lower credit scores.

In 2005 I received an Aspire Visa with an initial credit limit of 300 dollars. I used the card once to buy gasoline and when o recieved my first statement it was over 600.00. I calle dto cancel the card and they refused to cancel it. I then shredded the card and tried to make several small payments to no avail. my payments were never recieved supposedly and over the course of time I lost contact with them.
In May of 2008 i was contacted by MCM who informed me if I set up payments of a total of 600.00 we would resolve this issue. I sent one payment of 100.00 as agreed and recieved a statement for 1188.00 when caontacted by the company I wanted an explanation of the amount he assured me that we would be finished if I paid the remaining 500.00.
On Aug 1st 2008 He called again and explained that i was suppose to pay the remainder of the balance by the end of July for it to be honored. I asked to speak with his supervisor who informed me that there was some misunderstanding on mine and my wifes part about the agreement. The agent is not authorized to settle for half of the bill but we could end if we set up pay arrangements for a new total of 700.00.
I said i wanted the original deal since i had already paid when he got hateful and started yelling at me.He threatened to take me to court to settle this and mark it as a refusal to pay. I asked to see the original charges since i had never seen them and was told it couldnt be arranged.

WOW I have been a customer since 2006, trying to re-establish my credit, with initial limit $450. Since this year, I made a committment to pay my account on time each month. I just paid off account again in May (June statement). So without warning or notice, they gave me an automatic increase to $750 limit, anyway in June, despite prior over limit fees. So I decided to use card again this month and make 2 payments , receiving confirmations and access to available credit the very next day, with balance due of zero, on my June statement.
At the beginning of my current billing cycle (unavailable July statement not even posted yet), I was assessed and over limit fee for $150 limit which made me go over my balance of current charges. Then a couple days ago, I received in the mail, a notice (dated a wk ago) that my account was over the limit and to immediately to pay amount that I went over to bring it under the limit. Just days ago, I called the Collection Number to set up payment for the amount was over the limit and received confirmation. I called yesterday to confirm pymt received and arrangements to pay account off, the begining of next month (which will be done) and that's when they informed me that even though I made the payment, that my account was closed and would not be activated no more. I asked when they closed it, they said back on last week due to my account being severely over the limit!
I can't even restore my account after prompt payment! I got no notice about annual fee on my last statement and received no notice prior to them closing my account and my next pymt is not even due yet -sched pymt due for mid August! Not even here yet! They did all this to me in one billing cycle! I filed a dispute online with them through website for information. l guess I have to contact FTC? I wonder if there is a active class action lawsuit that can be filed because this company is horrible to their long-term customers or any customers for that matter! Please provide further info for what can be done about this. Thanks.
Damaging my credit score, hurting my ability to build a trust to re-establish my credit and good name. This will prevent other potential offers such as purchasing a home or obtain any means of credit in the future, except in the hands of sub-prime lenders. Now my hard work in restoring my credit for me to give my children a better life this year...in lenders eyes will be ruined and tarnished.

I also opened an account with Aspire Visa in 2005. I began paying the fees on the card immediately. I deployed shortly after opening the account and when I returned to the US I was shocked that although I had not made any purchases on the card, it had accrued enormous fees. I then contacted the company to make payment arrangements on the card and to close the account. After my final payment, I contacted Aspire by phone and reminded them that I wanted the account closed.
I then wrote them a letter, cut the card and enclosed it. I sent it registered, return receipt which was returned refused to sign. Again, this warranted another phone call and unwanted dialog on my part. I re-iterated to them that I wanted the account closed and nothing more to do with them. In less that 7 days I receive another card from Aspire with a different account number and I immediately shredded it. My re-occurring nightmare began. The same thing began on the new card and I refused to pay. They began to make h harassing phone calls, day and night, twenty or more calls every day and they would begin at the most unorthodox times; as early as 5 a.m. and as late as 11:00 p.m. and Sundays were not excluded. I would be screaming to the top of my lungs for the non-English speaking individuals to stop harassing me, to stop calling me on my cell phone and at work.
I would get headaches so bad and be in tears from getting so stressed out. I could not believe that in this day and age that anybody would stoop so low to rob, cheat, harass, belittle and degrade other human beings. I am deployed again and I just received notification that a summonses had been issued for me. Portfolio Recovery assumed the debt and is trying to make me pay. I missed the deadline to dispute, so they will most likely garnish my wages or put a lien on my federal taxes. I did speak on the phone with them and it was like I was reliving the whole nightmare again. They were unsympathetic and were trying to get enough information to garnish my wages.
The total amount now over a thousand dollars. The hearing is on the 30th of July, days away and I'm in Iraq and I risk the chance of a Capias being issued for my arrest for missing the court date. Again, I feel helpless, defenseless. Why should I have to pay this? Why do we let a company such as this get away with this? I will more than likely pay before the court date, but after seeing this website, will that be the end of my nightmare, or just the beginning?
Ruined credit, mental anguish, loss of trust in making financial decisions, embarrassment, loss of income, facing arrest and/or garnishment of wages and termination from job.

I used it again, and waited for two months to get the bill and saw it was for almost $150.00 for a purchase of $30.00. I called to get the reason for this and find out why I didnt get a bill. They had no response. I told them to cancel the card and send me an Itemized bill of my purchases. Well, they never did.
Now I am being sued for over $600.00 plus attorney and court fees. I see on the consumer website there are several people in the same situation. This is in reference to My father who was diagnosed with alzheimer several years ago. At that time it was determined that he was beyond the beginning stage. According to the credit card company listed above, he opened an account with them on September 14, 2005. They are unable to tell me what the purchases were for, or even when they were made. They did indicate that their database would only go back to August of 2007. There is no record of any purchases as of their current database.
However, he is currently in a nursing home due to his medical condition. My initial attempt to explain the situation to them was unsuccessful. I was not aware of this situation until now. When I did talk to them (customer service agent) I was told that they could not talk to me because I am not on the card. I replied, I know. I'm not trying to be on this card and that the automatic bank debits that they are doing are not authorized be me and that my father is not able to authorize such a transaction. The conversation was not pleasant needless to say, and I informed the agent not to attempt any further payments to my father's accounts. I am his POA.
They have gone to the account (which was since closed due to fraudulent activity)again to this time w/authorization from my mother. In a conference call w/customer service my mother stated that she told them to deal with me because I am handling all their business affairs. The agent indicated that she according to the tape, my mother, mispronounced my name, and told them to debit an account that she is not on.

Originally when he called me, he claimed I took a card out in Washington state. I had in fact lived there for three months but had already been back in New York for six months when they claim the card was procured. I also told them that was impossible as I wasn't even there then. He indicated I was trash, that I was on social security and no good, and also gave me my last four digits of my social security number. It's clear that they are stealing identities; how, I do not know. Prior to 2000, I may have had a card with them; I don't remember due to brain surgery. I do know all my bills and any credit cards I would have had were paid by social security settlement and inheritance by my legal aide with Deleware County social services.
It's sad that unscrupulous companies are still allowed to practice business in the USA. So you incur late charges, and the collection calls begin all for $26.00. When you call, you get the India Call center. This company is a sham. You can make all the payments you want, but they will find a way to tell you that it was made outside the limit. I had been working with a consumer credit agency to get out of debt. One of my creditors has been Aspire VISA. Recently my financial circumstances worsened, and I was not able to maintain my re-payment plan with my consumer credit agency. So Aspire VISA began calling me directly. They were extremely aggressive and offered little in the way of concessions to help me get out of debt with them. This is in contrast to my other creditors, who were very reasonable and accommodating. Aspire VISA's representatives proposed my making 3 monthly payments in the amount of $210.00 to supposedly bring my account current with them. After that time they said they would stop the late charges and drop the interest rate to zero for up to 6 months. The principal balance was and currently is approximately $4,000. The current interest rate is 27%. By the way, I started with a balance of $10,000, and have worked very hard to responsibly pay it off over the last several years.
I told the Aspire VISA representative the last several times we talked that I was not prepared to make any more payments unless they could drop the interest rate right away, and could guarantee that it would remain reasonable for the balance of the payments to completely pay off the balance once their 6 month program was over. They would not do that, and I said I was not ready to make payments on that basis. Imagine my surprise when I looked at my bank statments and found that they had auto-drafted two payments in the amount of $210.00 as if I had approved and agreed with their terms. I certainly did not. When I called to complain and demend that they replace the funds in my account, they claimed that I had approved the payments and that they were authorized to continue taking the funds. They said that they recorded all calls. When I asked them to produce the recording showing that I had supposedly approved the auto-drafted payments, they refused. How can they get away with this? I am certain they are in violation of civil laws in this practice, and likely criminal ones, as well. It did not take me long to search the Internet and find lots and lots of complaints against Aspire VISA. They stand out as a bad actor in the credit and banking industry, and somebody needs to put a stop to them. I would love to participate in that effort.
Because Aspire VISA took funds from my bank account, via ACH, wihtout my knowledge or authorization, I am unable to pay other bills and expenses that I have planned to pay. They finally called me; I made payment over the phone and gave them new address. Eventually received a statement at new address, but not until late fees were added on. Also, found out the credit line was reduced to $800 while the balance due on the account was still over $800 and was being charged for this, too. The interest rate has increased dramatically, and several other fees seem to be popping up, too. This has affected my credit score.
I spoke with several customer service people, but each person showed no record of the previous call(s). It was at this point that I threatened legal action. A customer service supervisor credited three late fees ($105) back to the account. This took the account below the $800 credit line, so now there is at least one less fee (for now).

I've asked them to send me something, with my name, that shows that I had one and they can't or won't.
So what do I do now?

Just recently I received a summons in the mail that I'm being sued for the amount of $1,445.00. Now I've dealt with aspire for awhile, was on time with payments , then lost my job due to an accident, was out of work for 2 years. I tried my hardest to make them understand my situation but all they wanted was money. So I paid what I could and when I could, but that wasn't enough for them. That’s when the threatening calls started, all of a sudden the monthly statements were on time and not late. So like I said I paid when I could. But I stopped payment in 2005 when they couldn't answer my question about fees I was getting charged for, every time I called It was a running around game and nobody had answers for me.

I sent in all the necessary documents- such as her death certificate and everyday since then the continually call atleast 2 times a day asking for her. I tell them everytime that she has passed and the still continue to ask for her. One time they even said I know she passed, but the bill hasnt been paid in 3 months Well, if they know then why do they still ask for her, and how can she pay it if she is gone?
It is stressful when someone continues to call and ask for your deceased mother everyday.

Within one year even though I only spent less than $160.00 on the card they are attempting to file a lawsuit for more than $1300.00 plus attorney fees and Court Costs.

I was offered a Visa credit card with a $300 limit, my first credit after I had filed for bankruptcy in 2002. I used it a few times and made my payments on time.
But, then I stopped receiving statements. I asked them for my balance and they said $450. I found out that they charged me for a $179 activation fee and a $39 start up fee. Where the heck did those charges come from? Those weren't on the disclosure that I had read.

Apsire raised my interest rate from 18% to 28%--putting me over the limit due to interest. They then began charging me $70.00 a month in over the limit fees. I called to complain and was told that the contract says they can raise the interest rate whenever they want to. If I paid the overage, they would refund the over the limit fees. I paid the overage--no refund, they simply raised my limit to $3000.00.

I was under the impression that I would have all of these fees the first year of opening this account and not every year that you have the account. They are going to charge me 150.00 every year for having this card. In addition they repeatedly enrolled me in third party membership programs without my knowledge or consent and then billed me renewal fees, sometimes double billing in a single month.

I got an offer for an Aspire Visa card to assist me in improving my credit. I have regretted it from day 1. I received the card in 2004 and I am still fighting w/ them on a monthly basis.
We do not receive statements on a regular basis. It seems that IF statements come, they don't come in time to make a payment. If I call customer service to ask for my payment due date, the answer is that my payment is due "on or about" the 22nd.
They have no grace period, so if you are ONE day late they immediately report you as being late to the credit bureaus - not that you will ever know when your due date is. If you make a payment after your due date, it automatically goes to your next billing statement so it looks like you never made a payment that month.
I have called multiple times to try and correct the problem w/ receiving statements and they tell me to contact my postal carrier. We do not have a problem receiving any of our other mail. And we seem to get their late notices in the mail promptly.

I opened a credit card account with Aspire Visa. My credit limit was $300 - $179 for the annual fee, $6.50 a month for account management only left $114 of ACTUAL CREDIT. Then I had to send $20 to activate the account!
My September payment was late so I sent a money gram for $120, that they refused to post to my account. MoneyGram called Card Services and confirmed the money transfer, confirming the reference number. Card Services admitted that they received the money transfer, yet after two weeks they have not posted the money to my account.
When I talk to card services they tell me that the money transfer has not been received and its under investigation. Money Gram says the payment was there 10 minutes after it hit the wire.

I spoke with a customer service rep who offered no help but simply stated it was company policy to charge for online payments and that the interest rate would not be changed. Although I knew I did not give approval for the current terms and interest rate, I asked the representative to supply some sort of proof. He indicated that he could not and would not do this for me.

The company is trying to charge me for a credit increase that gave me no available credit. I asked to be sent a statement, like any real card company would, and was told that would be a $5 charge!
I cancelled my card and today received a final bill for $400 with no statement at all.

I called several times asking them to close my account and let me pay the balance and I was told that I would still incur finance charges and monthly maintenance fees.
I got this card thinking that it would help me. I filed chapter 13 in 2002 and thought that if I tried to establish credit it would booster my rating. Instead it's dropped it tremendously.
