The Aspire Visa phone rep advised every card was closed due to the state of our current economy and credit disaster. I was transferred to their accounting department when I asked if they were going to continue charging the annual fee until the account is paid in full. After 20 minutes of hold time I gave up and hung-up. I'll wait to see what shows up on the statement. Like most recently have stated on this site, I too, met all requirements above and beyond, never late, paid double the amount due or more each month keeping the balance to at least 1/2 of my limit.

I have been a card holder for about 8 years, I never had a late payment. I noticed that my monthly payments even though they were higher than the minimum where not lowering my balance so i called and wrote to Aspire asking to look at my history and lower my rate, they said that they wouldn't then a week or two later I got a noticed saying that my account was being closed. I called Aspire because I do not want my credit score to go down, they told me that they were closing all accounts and that it would not affect my credit but I need writing proof.

I received a letter dated 11/21/08 stating that Aspire is discontinuing the Visa card program, effective 12/8/08. I am livid about this. I have had this account for about 12 years now, originally through Providien and then my account was sold to Aspire. I am outraged about this because we, the consumer, were not given any warning and we obviously have no repercussions. Aspire should not be allowed to get away with this. And to make matters worse, I was told that my account would still accrue interest while there is a balance owed. Obviously, by reading your consumer complaint page for Aspire, I am not alone in this.

I had this card for about three years now but it's been really crazy having this card.I started having problems making payments on the website. I tried to log in to my account and it would not recognized my account number than i will call customer service and spoke with the representatives and i was told that there were doing some updates on the website. Therefore, it was not working, so they would give me a temporary password to log in but it never worked and than i had to pay my bill anyway so they would charge me late fee. I stopped making payments on the website and i mailed my payments.I am currently paying my balance and now my account was closed two months ago, Is it not amazing having this card?It is Dec 08 and i am still having problems logging in and the worst is that i called customer service and they told me that my account was closed without sending a letter to me. They told me i went over the limit and did not pay my account so they closed it.I was so shocked and angry to my self to have kept this card all these years, i have other credic cards and they do not treat me like this, they are very professional and finally, my advise is that if anyone has this card pay it off and don,t use it ever!Do not close it or might lose points on credic score, just DO NOT USE IT EVER!

Like all the others, I too have received the same letter telling me that they have cancelled my card. When I called them to inquire as to the reason, because the letter stated no reason for the decision, I was told that everyone one received the letter that the program was cancelled. I also inquired as to the effects that it would have on my credit score and she simply said she couldn't answer that at this time. This is outrageous. A company that has done this to their loyal customers is unexceptable. I know times are hard for all right now, but to cancell and give 10 days notice is unexcusable. I'm not even sure that it is legal. I think everyone should complain, complain, complain until someone looks at this issue carefully.

Like many others, I recieved a letter of termination by this company. Never have I defaulted on my card agreement with them. All my payments are made on time or before time. This is a really unfair act on the part of this company. Some of us pay our bill and then use the avaliable credit to get by to the next pay period. When I called they were not able to tell me anything but that they were sorry for my problem. I did ask for a reduced intrest rate, but was told they could not even do that.

After having a Visa credit card account with this 'bank' for a few years, I received notice 11/26/08 that my account was being canceled for no reason effective 12/08/08. After searching online, I found that I am not the only one that had this happen. I have been a good customer and have never had a late payment as long as I have this card. Now it appears that this closure of my account will affect my FICO score. I got this card to help me reestablish credit and they do this.

I was informed last month that my Aspire Visa account was being closed. This came as a shock to me, as I have always paid the bill on time and have usually made much more than the minimum payment. When I contacted the company, I was informed that all cardholders had recieved the same notice.
Fortunately, when I mentioned this at my bank, I was offered a credit card immediately through them, so evidently the closure of Aspire Visa doesn't seem to have affected my credit rating. However I'm very curious as to what exactly has happened within that particular company to cause the cancellation of ALL of their credit accounts.

But the major complaint I have..which no one has mentioned that on my statement for this month..they have included there annual fee (which is billed for the following year) So not only did they close the account they want me to pay the annual fee for next year. I have already made my complaint to the ftc as I urge everyone else to do.

I am so mad that I am almost ready to not pay them. I asked if they were going out of business or going to claim bankruptcy and if that was the reason for this decision and they completely avoided the question. Am I obligated to pay if they go out of business or if they claim bankruptcy? I am really discusted that a company can just make such decisions with no notice at all.

I have been a customer with Aspire for several years and have always made my payments on time but like a lot of other people here I received a letter today informing me that Aspire were terminating my card program and reduced my credit limit down to $100 of my balance. When I checked online my limit has actually been reduced to within $30 of my balance. I am lucky that I do not have a particuarly high balance but with all the credit issues that we as consumers have to deal with these days, the last thing we need is a negative mark on our credit reports from an unfeeling and mercenary company like Aspire. I have tried calling the company and so far have not been able to speak to anyone but have filed a complaint with the FTC. I urge everyone else who is in the same situation to do the same. This definitely looks like cause for a class action suit to me.

Aspire Visa...the infamous letter arrived at my house too. After reading the complaints here I went to the Federal Trade Commission's site. They are the regulatory agency for CC companies.
GO TO: www.FTC.GOV; fill out their complaint form. The more of us contact them the more likely we will hear from them. This what I wrote: As many other consumers, I have received -after more then 6 years of being a customer- a letter stating that they have closed my account, reduced my limit, and that I am OBLIGATED to pay them back no matter what. I was shocked. I as a responsible person got on a DMP program but kept my Aspire as a back up for emergencies. I do not want to file bankruptcy. So for this company to close my account without warning is ludicrous. I did a short little research online and came to the conclusion it is not worth calling the company based on other customer's complaints (no English speaking and helpful reps). See sites: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/credit_cards/aspire.html http://aspire-visa.pissedconsumer.com/ http://www.complaints.com/2006/may/3/ASPIRE_VISA_CREDIT_CARD_CUSTOMER_SERVICE_NUMBER_14536.htm http://www.complaints.com/2007/may/17/ASPIRE_CREDIT_CARD_144915.htm Many of us are VERY concerned about how this will effect our credit rating and why are we kept to a contract the other side has broken. When I break a contract I am held responsible...how about Aspire????? They breached a contract we entered into therefore they should carry the burden of my balance. I was paying on time, more then the minimum and was always responsible to them. They should eat their mistake. With all the bail outs ... who bails me out when I make a mistake? No one I take responsibility and make the best of what is given. PLEASE investigate!!! because there are many of us whose credit score is in jeopardy.

I got a letter in the mail a couple days ago saying We Regret to Inform you that your credit with Aspire Visa has been terminated they gave me a number to call and so i did, got a lady whom could hardly speak english and who had no clue what she was doing or what was going on and then i asked her to escalate my call to a supervisor. The supervisor could not speak english well either. They told me Aspire Visa closed but that if i still had a balance i would have to pay it.

I too have the same issues with Aspire Visa called every number possible NEVER getting anyone who can speak clear english. They all state Aspire Visa cancelled their credit card program (it was an account management decision) and like so many others I too paid my bills on time. They also had the nerve to give me a credit increase on 11/20/08 charge the annual fee and then close the account and tell me I'm over the limit by $4.77. And they even stated that they are still charging a monthly account maintenance fee even though they don't exist anymore. I feel they should have made the cardholders aware and transfered the balanced to one of their other credit card programs. They also handle something called Tribute, Salute and some other one. Because EVERY number I called was not Aspire anymore it was one of those just mentioned. I also mentioned to them that this will be a negative listing on my credit report and they told me NO THE BANK IS CLOSING THE ACCOUNT NOT YOU and I argued and said yeah and that means a negative mark on my credit and they insisted no. I don't see that it would be any other way. I don't see a bank closing an account and giving anyone a good mark on thier credit that usually means a DEFAULT. If there is anyone out there that can help us it would be greatly appreciated. They should offer us a settlement for 75% or more due to their FAILURE & NEGLECT and not charge us any MONTHLY ACCOUNT MAINTENANCE FEES!

I opened my Aspire Visa Card in March of 2006. It was supposed to rebuild my credit. My credit line was initially $500 even though I had to earn $300 of it by paying on time for several months. Within 2 years, I have reached a $2000 credit limit, but today I received the termination letter as well. It is kind of funny, considering that a couple of months ago, I requested that the horrendous 29.9% credit rating be reduced--being that I was such a great customer paying on time and what not. And as another person stated, I was told that rate reductions were not customer initiated--meaning that although I was a good enough customer to increase my credit limit and pay on time every month, to keep my business they would not reduce my interest rate. I said I wanted to close the account and they told me that I could not--I always thought that you could close an account--it might not be the best idea, and you would still have to pay it back, but you can terminate your contract if you would like. I also asked why was the annual fee so high. I have several other cards--Capital One, HSBC, etc. All of my cards are so-called platinum and they all have annual fees of $30 or so. Usually if you have a high annual fee, your interest rate is lower and vice versa--but not Aspire. They want $85 a year! So after them telling me I could not get out of my contract, they send me a letter and bail out! Isn't that ironic? And they still want to be paid every month, but that's not going to really matter, when lenders see that you have a balance on an account that isn't even open--that's worse than having a high utilization percentage on your card!

They flat did not give a rip. I have nothing against foreigners at all but I find it hard to believe all of these people I spoke with are huddled up in one place in Atlanta as they said. Who is at fault here- Aspire, Columbus bank, or Visa USA? I just made a payment to my card on 11/07/08. I called Aspire to ask them what was going on. I talked to three different people who gave me three different answers in three different languages, or at least three different non-understandable accents. One person said I was past due. I always pay on time and usually more than once per cycle. Another said I had gone over the limit, which they couldn't verify and I didn't have a statement or any other proof to see otherwise. Another said that I could not go over the limit more than 2 times in 12 months or my card would be suspended permanently. Four days after my payment was posted to the account my card was suspended, in the middle of a billing cycle and without any notice? In the end my card is permanently suspended. They didn't even try to work with me at all to resolve it. That was it. It didn't make any sense to me. Even if I did miss a payment or go over the limit they have an abundance of fees they charge to cover it. Why suspend my card without any notice? Now I am reading about other people who are getting no explanation as to why their accounts were closed. I have had this card for 3+ years. I asked if they are going out of business, and Marsha said they were closing everyone's accounts. I then asked if they would reduce the interest rate and she had to transfer me to another department where I talked to Ron, who said it couldn't be done due to bank policy. (I had a hard time understanding him). He then said it was because they were discontinuing the card program to everyone, and just kept repeating it, so I asked to speak to his supervisor, whose name I didn't understand and he tried to explain, but between the accent and fast talking, I interrupred and asked him to connect me to someone in the United States. He connected me with D'Andre, a supervisor, and although I doubt that he was in the USA, he did speak ENGLISH, and was very nice. I told him I'd like to get this paid sooner rather than later, and if the interest rate was cut, I could do that. Then I asked what discontinuing the card services had to do with not being able to lower the interest rate. I explained my situation, retired and on a fixed income. He said he would submit my account for consideration of APR reduction and that I will receive a letter within three to five days. I did mention that it would have helped had there been an explanation in the letter. I believe I'm through with credit cards.

Indeed they are still accepting applications for their credit card NOW. This is perplexing, as I read on this web site comments from individuals who received termination notices in early Nov... I have never missed a payment, been late or provided them for any cause of insecurity. I pay an ridiculous interest (29.9%) as this card has provided me a generous limit. But I lively solely on SSD and have used it in emergency situations. When I asked about the letter I received I got a rather vague answer that the "Directors had decided to cancel this card program." Having a law degree, I believe this response may be disingenous or fraudulent. I suspect Aspire will still live on, perhaps as holding company for another co. or??? I know there is an economic crunch and companies are trying to cut their losses. However I have paying paying a usurious interest rate(29.9%) for this card solely as a safety net for emergency expenses. Despite my excellent track record with them, I believe I may be discriminated by them solely because of my low income and age. This might be a good business practice but unless Aspire really does close I believe might be illegal under the Consumer Credit Protection Act. I have 3 other credit cards (with lower limits) and do not pay ridiculous interest rates. Literally I have traded off on the interest rate dilemma solely to prevent me from having to use "Payday loan advances" in emergencies. Lastly, I query if the interest rate I am paying is applicable to paying off my outstanding balance on an allededly extinct company??? Second their 30 day notice is totally unreasonable, I almost used the card yesterday to fix my car. As this company has received numerous complaints and comments on this website, respectfully I will like to know if they are really going out of business. The phrasing of their representatives on point was vague and their continuation of ads for new cards on the web(today) is inexplicable for a company which is folding. I have a good credit score which I literally starve to maintain, own my own residence(no mortgage) but my disability(since 1990) makes it impossible to save for emergency situations. Having taken 2 years of corporate law at law school and based on the info provided me, I strongly suspect this 'termination' is a hoax which may benefit them but has upset me a lot. Please investigate....

Now I read on here that many people are cancelled and apparently the company is closing or going bankrupt. Why couldn't they just state in the letter that they were closing. I got a letter today from Aspire closing my account. I had always been in good standing and never late. I currently owe nothing on this account. When I finally got through to a person (approx. 40 minutes), I was told that all Aspire Visa accounts are being closed. I could not understand all of what she was saying because, once again, it sounded like someone in India or somewhere. I did hear her say something about their creditors and the economy. I figured that this would come to some credit companies with the economy as it is, but it seems they would send out a letter with a little more explanation than what I received. Also, they should have given people more notice as I have read that some people were out shopping and trying to use their card only to find it declined. We all now how embarrassing that can be. My only concern is that it will affect by FICO score. I'm very concerned about that. Whenever you lose some of the credit you had available, it will affect the FICO score. I recently received a Notice of termination of card program? from Aspire Visa. Since I have no balance outstanding on the account and have been in good standing for many years, I called customer service. Based on discussions with the customer service representative (the number in the letter did not work... - had to use the number on the card), I understand that Aspire Visa Card has gone out of business? and is closing ALL cards in this program. They could not, however, confirm to me that this would not have a negative impact on my credit rating - i.e. it will be reported as a closed account? even though it was not my personal decision or as a result of my personal actions. In their exact words, they cannot predict how the closed account will affect my credit?. Clearly this is alarming to me!
I have contacted a credit reporting agency that monitors my credit for me to let me know if this is going to affect my credit rating. Interestingly, VISA does not have anything on their website about Aspire closing down...?? If it does impact mine and others' credit, then I suspect there must be some recourse through a governmental or regulatory body to ensure that I (along with thousands of others) am not unfairly disadvantaged by these circumstances. Finally, it would seem that if many people's credit is damaged in this way that some sort of class action could be possible - either against Aspire - or any credit reporting agency that unfairly impacts a person's credit rating because the card company closed down?

I had a credit card account with a company named Providian and I was notified the account had been purchased by a company named ASPIRE. The account was already closed before it was purchased by ASPIRE and I was in the process of paying it off. Everyone here should know that a closed account means there can be no changes in the underlying terms and agreements including changes to final interest rate. ASPIRE sent me letters seeking to make changes to the interest rate terms and other terms resulting in reactivating an already closed account. I refused their offers but they persisted. They went ahead and changed the terms without my approval therefore I refused to pay the balance they had obtained from the previous card company. Since they breached the contract terms, they're entitled to nothing.

When ASPIRE realized they would get nothing, they sold the account to MIDLAND FUNDING. As many of you, I received the usual harassing phone calls, mail, and finally received a letter from MIDLAND FUNDING threatening to sue me. I was waiting for someone to serve me with a lawsuit. If you are sued by these companies, you should file a denial and counter claim for damages seeking the maximum allowed by the jurisdictional limits of the Court. When I met their Attorney (who was tantamount to a used car dealer) from Dallas outside of the Courtroom he said, "That was a brilliant move on your part". He asked me, "How long have you been practicing law?"

I did not tell him I had previously been recruited by an Assistant Attorney in the AG's Office to practice law in the Intellectual Property Division for the State of Texas. One of the entries in my initial answer was, "Abuse of Judicial Process in Furtherance of a Criminal Enterprise", and went into detail on their attempted criminal activity. FYI - The result of credit lending deregulation by the greedy, racist, fraudulent, Republicans. When the opposition saw that I was going to dismantle their fraudulent operation, they faxed a letter and sent me emails offering (begging) to drop the entire matter. They were so lucky.

The Judge (a Republican) was not very friendly in the Courtroom. This is significant because no one is above the law. They were so lucky I finally did agree to drop everything; I was about to move the entire case to Federal Court and turn it into a Federal Racketeering case where I would have been entitled to treble damages. The greedy, racist, frauds were humbled and have not been heard from since. They learned their lesson and the Judge signed a dismissal order to get me out of her Courtroom as quickly as possible. She was in such a rush she did not wait to receive my signed dismissal before she signed hers.

What this company and similar companies are relying on is if you try to get an Attorney, he or she will tell you, it's going to cost as much to defend you as the balance on this bill; therefore it is cheaper to pay the bill. Of course the problem for many of you is you never finish paying them. Another bill is ready to come as soon as you pay the first one. The idea here is if it's in writing - printed by a computer - it must be legitimate. As one Federal Judge has said about white collar crime, "These people don't change their ways until you've introduced them to a pair of handcuffs." The moral of the story for these frauds, be careful on whose toes you step. It could be your last step.

I have had my Aspire Visa for a number of years. In September I received a call 4 days past my due date demanding a payment of $80 to bring my account current. I made a telephone payment--I did not have my bill in front of me. I postdated the payment until September 26, my next payday. The payment was debited from my bank account on September 26. A few days later, I received a notice that my charging privileges were suspended. I looked at my statement and realized that the $80 that had been demanded was not actually the minimum payment--a fee had been applied, bringing my account over its credit limit, although that was never mentioned to me by the telephone collector.

Had I not realized that, I would have had yet another late fee charged in October--I should have been told that I needed to pay $139.13 to bring my account both current and under the credit limit. I had a great deal of difficulty getting through to Aspire over several days. I finally spoke with a representative, who referred me to a higher department. That man said I should have known about the overlimit fee--it was on my statement.

First, Aspire dunned me inappropriately when I was only a couple of days past due. The representative gave me to understand that I had to make a minimum payment of $80 to keep my account in good standing. The account was closed a couple of days later, and had I not looked at my bill I would have had ANOTHER overlimit fee--but I was only overlimit in the first place because of the late fee, and the representative deliberately tried to trick me into being overlimit again. The late fee and overlimit fee are $35 each.

Aspire VISA has received hundreds of complaints and settled a class action suit for $11 million in the state of New York in 2006. Could you please cut me in on the class action? Or take action for DC residents? These scum bags should be put out of business.

On the Summons & Complaint form, it list a county where action arose or business was conducted, I don't live in that County, nor have I ever.

this was a credit card that we got to use for emergency. it was used one time for gas. we never got a bill, but a phone call wanting the account paid in full. they would not accept a check or check by phone, it had to be a money order. Of course now I cannot find the money order receipt. Anyway we sent the money, cut up the card, and haven't heard anything in at least 4 and 1/2 years.

The next time we hear is when the sheriff delivered a summons to appear in court. we filed a dispute on our credit report. we thought everything was taken care of. next thing i receive a garnishment summons at work. this one little gas purchase is now a grand total of $1000.00.

Aspire Visa is constantly calling me looking for my ex husband who moved out 7 years ago and have been divorced for over 5 years. I have repeatedly told them that he no longer is at this number and I don't have a forwarding one for him. There is a reason an ex is an ex. I've filed complaints with the FTC about them to no avail. This morning (Saturday) they called at 6 am.

The calls are mainly an annoyance... and are becoming harrassment. I don't understand what part of "he is not at this number and I don't have a forwarding number" they don't understand. This has continued for about 8 months now and I'm tired of it.. beyond tired of it.

In 2005 I received an Aspire Visa with an initial credit limit of 300 dollars. I used the card once to buy gasoline and when o recieved my first statement it was over 600.00. I calle dto cancel the card and they refused to cancel it. I then shredded the card and tried to make several small payments to no avail. my payments were never recieved supposedly and over the course of time I lost contact with them.

In May of 2008 i was contacted by MCM who informed me if I set up payments of a total of 600.00 we would resolve this issue. I sent one payment of 100.00 as agreed and recieved a statement for 1188.00 when caontacted by the company I wanted an explanation of the amount he assured me that we would be finished if I paid the remaining 500.00.

On Aug 1st 2008 He called again and explained that i was suppose to pay the remainder of the balance by the end of July for it to be honored. I asked to speak with his supervisor who informed me that there was some misunderstanding on mine and my wifes part about the agreement. The agent is not authorized to settle for half of the bill but we could end if we set up pay arrangements for a new total of 700.00.

I said i wanted the original deal since i had already paid when he got hateful and started yelling at me.He threatened to take me to court to settle this and mark it as a refusal to pay. I asked to see the original charges since i had never seen them and was told it couldnt be arranged.

I receive several phone calls a day at all times of the day. My wife is afraid to answer the phone because of this and it has ruined my credit which they claim to help you repair.

WOW I have been a customer since 2006, trying to re-establish my credit, with initial limit $450. Since this year, I made a committment to pay my account on time each month. I just paid off account again in May (June statement). So without warning or notice, they gave me an automatic increase to $750 limit, anyway in June, despite prior over limit fees. So I decided to use card again this month and make 2 payments , receiving confirmations and access to available credit the very next day, with balance due of zero, on my June statement.

At the beginning of my current billing cycle (unavailable July statement not even posted yet), I was assessed and over limit fee for $150 limit which made me go over my balance of current charges. Then a couple days ago, I received in the mail, a notice (dated a wk ago) that my account was over the limit and to immediately to pay amount that I went over to bring it under the limit. Just days ago, I called the Collection Number to set up payment for the amount was over the limit and received confirmation. I called yesterday to confirm pymt received and arrangements to pay account off, the begining of next month (which will be done) and that's when they informed me that even though I made the payment, that my account was closed and would not be activated no more. I asked when they closed it, they said back on last week due to my account being severely over the limit!

I can't even restore my account after prompt payment! I got no notice about annual fee on my last statement and received no notice prior to them closing my account and my next pymt is not even due yet -sched pymt due for mid August! Not even here yet! They did all this to me in one billing cycle! I filed a dispute online with them through website for information. l guess I have to contact FTC? I wonder if there is a active class action lawsuit that can be filed because this company is horrible to their long-term customers or any customers for that matter! Please provide further info for what can be done about this. Thanks.

Damaging my credit score, hurting my ability to build a trust to re-establish my credit and good name. This will prevent other potential offers such as purchasing a home or obtain any means of credit in the future, except in the hands of sub-prime lenders. Now my hard work in restoring my credit for me to give my children a better life this year...in lenders eyes will be ruined and tarnished.

I also opened an account with Aspire Visa in 2005. I began paying the fees on the card immediately. I deployed shortly after opening the account and when I returned to the US I was shocked that although I had not made any purchases on the card, it had accrued enormous fees. I then contacted the company to make payment arrangements on the card and to close the account. After my final payment, I contacted Aspire by phone and reminded them that I wanted the account closed.

I then wrote them a letter, cut the card and enclosed it. I sent it registered, return receipt which was returned refused to sign. Again, this warranted another phone call and unwanted dialog on my part. I re-iterated to them that I wanted the account closed and nothing more to do with them. In less that 7 days I receive another card from Aspire with a different account number and I immediately shredded it. My re-occurring nightmare began. The same thing began on the new card and I refused to pay. They began to make h harassing phone calls, day and night, twenty or more calls every day and they would begin at the most unorthodox times; as early as 5 a.m. and as late as 11:00 p.m. and Sundays were not excluded. I would be screaming to the top of my lungs for the non-English speaking individuals to stop harassing me, to stop calling me on my cell phone and at work.

I would get headaches so bad and be in tears from getting so stressed out. I could not believe that in this day and age that anybody would stoop so low to rob, cheat, harass, belittle and degrade other human beings. I am deployed again and I just received notification that a summonses had been issued for me. Portfolio Recovery assumed the debt and is trying to make me pay. I missed the deadline to dispute, so they will most likely garnish my wages or put a lien on my federal taxes. I did speak on the phone with them and it was like I was reliving the whole nightmare again. They were unsympathetic and were trying to get enough information to garnish my wages.

The total amount now over a thousand dollars. The hearing is on the 30th of July, days away and I'm in Iraq and I risk the chance of a Capias being issued for my arrest for missing the court date. Again, I feel helpless, defenseless. Why should I have to pay this? Why do we let a company such as this get away with this? I will more than likely pay before the court date, but after seeing this website, will that be the end of my nightmare, or just the beginning?

Ruined credit, mental anguish, loss of trust in making financial decisions, embarrassment, loss of income, facing arrest and/or garnishment of wages and termination from job.

I'm not trying to be on this card and that the automatic bank debits that they are doing are not authorized be me and that my father is not able to authorize such a transaction. The conversation was not pleasant needless to say, and I informed the agent not to attempt any further payments to my father's accounts. I am his POA.

I had been working with a consumer credit agency to get out of debt. One of my creditors has been Aspire VISA. Recently my financial circumstances worsened, and I was not able to maintain my re-payment plan with my consumer credit agency. So Aspire VISA began calling me directly. They were extremely aggressive and offered little in the way of concessions to help me get out of debt with them. This is in contrast to my other creditors, who were very reasonable and accommodating. Aspire VISA's representatives proposed my making 3 monthly payments in the amount of $210.00 to supposedly bring my account current with them. After that time they said they would stop the late charges and drop the interest rate to zero for up to 6 months. The principal balance was and currently is approximately $4,000. The current interest rate is 27%. By the way, I started with a balance of $10,000, and have worked very hard to responsibly pay it off over the last several years.

I told the Aspire VISA representative the last several times we talked that I was not prepared to make any more payments unless they could drop the interest rate right away, and could guarantee that it would remain reasonable for the balance of the payments to completely pay off the balance once their 6 month program was over. They would not do that, and I said I was not ready to make payments on that basis. Imagine my surprise when I looked at my bank statments and found that they had auto-drafted two payments in the amount of $210.00 as if I had approved and agreed with their terms. I certainly did not. When I called to complain and demend that they replace the funds in my account, they claimed that I had approved the payments and that they were authorized to continue taking the funds. They said that they recorded all calls. When I asked them to produce the recording showing that I had supposedly approved the auto-drafted payments, they refused. How can they get away with this? I am certain they are in violation of civil laws in this practice, and likely criminal ones, as well. It did not take me long to search the Internet and find lots and lots of complaints against Aspire VISA. They stand out as a bad actor in the credit and banking industry, and somebody needs to put a stop to them. I would love to participate in that effort.

Because Aspire VISA took funds from my bank account, via ACH, wihtout my knowledge or authorization, I am unable to pay other bills and expenses that I have planned to pay. Also, I feel violated and no safe in using the banking system because they so far have gotten away with this. I have complained to my bank, Wells Fargo, but have not gotten resolution on this issue, yet.

I have never owned an Aspire Visa card. My credit is excellent, and I have no suspicious accounts on my credit report. However, representatives from Aspire Visa call my cell at least twice a day, every day. Usually it's just a recording asking me to call some other 800 number for card services. When I call, there is a message telling me that the service center is closed. The few times I have been called by a live person, they ask for someone I've never heard of. I've explained this, and asked them to stop calling, to which they agree. Early next morning though, I am awakened yet again by Aspire calling.

This notice asked me to give them my credit card number and to send it to Cardholder Privacy, P.O. Box 105096, Atlanta, GA 30348-5096. When I ended my business with them I asked them to close my account which I was lead to believe was indeed done.

I was issued an Aspire Visa card and used a $1000 credit line. I made several payments with no problem and then moved to different state. Filled out postal change of address card, but did not receive statement from Aspire Visa. Tried number and back of card, but did not reach a live person. Tried web site and it was under construction. They finally called me; I made payment over the phone and gave them new address. Eventually received a statement at new address, but not until late fees were added on. Also, found out the credit line was reduced to $800 while the balance due on the account was still over $800 and was being charged for this, too. The interest rate has increased dramatically, and several other fees seem to be popping up, too. This has affected my credit score.

I spoke with several customer service people, but each person showed no record of the previous call(s). It was at this point that I threatened legal action. A customer service supervisor credited three late fees ($105) back to the account. This took the account below the $800 credit line, so now there is at least one less fee (for now).

I found the corporate web site for Aspire Visa; they are called CompuCredit out of Atlanta, GA, http://www.compucredit.com/index.html. I think it is interesting that this company brags that in less than three years, they have grown from 4 employees and 15,000 Aspire Visa card holders to 160 employees and more than 800,000 Aspire Visa card holders. With the way they are treating their customers and how they are also charging them, it really is of no surprise.

First, I could never get a clear agreement of the terms with Aspire Visa. Secondly, bills were received with very little time until payment due date. There was no knowledge of changing interest rates. When I requested the account to be closed, wanting to pay off the balance, they continued to add high interest until the interest alone put the account over the limit. This caused an additional amount of almost $170 a month with no activity, making it impossible to pay this card off.

No one was helpful, and any attempts on my part were met with rudeness.

After reading some of the earlier entries, I thought I would add a dose of reality. Yes, Aspire Visa charges for online and phone payments, but they say so very clearly BEFORE you make the payment. That's why I write a check each month for free! And as for receiving the statement late, you CAN check your statement online for free if you don't get the paper one in time to make the payment. If you are waiting for a paper bill instead of keeping track of when your next payment is due yourself, then it is YOUR bad! My only complaint is the high interest rate, but then, I wouldn't have this card if I had the good credit to get a lower interest rate, would I?

My consequences are that I pay a high rate of interest becasue I had bad credit. But that isn't Aspire Visa's fault.

My account has always been up to date and I have always paid more than the minimum balance. They charge $15 for you to make a payment over the phone, so I began to make payments online. Then I began to notice that the balance online was always changing from day to day and never matched the statement they sent. So I called customer service and they quoted me a totally different balance!! When I told them about my online and paper statements, I was told that there was no way this was true and that I needed to pay what the rep said. So I said I would make the payment & I wanted to cancel the credit card. She said that I would have to pay the entire balance in order to do so. I asked if they had a payment plan, but she said no. But 2 weeks later I got a letter in the mail that said if I paid my bill on time for 6 months, there would be no finance or over-limit fees. so I called the number they gave me and thought I enrolled. But the next statement I received showed both finance & over-limit charges. I called & got nowhere with the reps, who, might I add, were not even in the US. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and was put on hold for 20 minutes. When the rep came back on the phone, she told me a supervisor would call me back. So I waited. & waited. & waited. Then the collection department called saying I was past due. I told them I was waiting to speak to a supervisor & they said I needed to make a payment & they had no record of me being in the pay assist program.

We do not receive statements on a regular basis. It seems that IF statements come, they don't come in time to make a payment. If I call customer service to ask for my payment due date, the answer is that my payment is due "on or about" the 22nd.

They have no grace period, so if you are ONE day late they immediately report you as being late to the credit bureaus - not that you will ever know when your due date is. If you make a payment after your due date, it automatically goes to your next billing statement so it looks like you never made a payment that month.

I have called multiple times to try and correct the problem w/ receiving statements and they tell me to contact my postal carrier. We do not have a problem receiving any of our other mail. And we seem to get their late notices in the mail promptly.
