These two are the same company and after Aspire lured me in with a low interest 'to help rebuild my credit' they then sent me another card that I did not request or agree to and in fact because I thought it was only an ad letter I threw it a stack and didn't open it for over a month until I got a bill for a charge on that card. Apparently, they charge an annual fee and had applied it to a card that I had neither requested, or called the number to activate the card. Because I already owed the fee and they wouldn't close the account unless I paid it, I ended up eventually using the card during a hardship and faithfully paid every month on time, even then they'd already raised my rate for no reason.
I paid on time for about two years, then I lost my job in 2008 and still made reduced payments on time for several months but they kept calling and calling anyway. I finally told them that I had nothing left to pay with, but they called me on my home phone, my cell phone and even on my husband's cell phone at least 6 times per day from each; Tribute and Aspire and from all different area codes and numbers. They were relentless. It got to the point that we stopped answering our home phone and often didn't bother to answer our cell phones either.
The worst part, my husband was already suffering from a severe depression and had gone through rehab for alcohol addiction. Then, he got laid off and these horrible phone calls just kept coming and coming and even when he didn't answer them, the sound of his cell phone ringing just drove him up the wall. Until he finally started drinking again and had a complete mental break down and had to be removed from our home by the police! He's a nice man but he just couldn't handle it on top of his other problems. He ended up so drunk and so deranged that he ended up in jail with attorney fees, lost his unemployment and is now likely to lose even more. Maybe if they wouldn't have constantly called, it wouldn't have happened. Tribute and Aspire (the same company, they lie about that) called three phones at least 6 times a day each! That's hearing our phones ring 36 times a day!

I got an Aspire Visa Card over 4 years ago due to the advertising which stated that I could rebuild my credit after a bankruptcy. I faithfully paid my bill on time over and above the minimum and paid off the balance several times.
They began to increase my limit periodically in increments of $500 until I had a limit of $2000. Suddenly about 2 years ago, I received a notice stating I would no longer be able to use my card. I then noticed months later that they had raised my interest rate to 35%!
When I called them to dispute this, they told me they had the right to raise it at any time according to my customer agreement. Feeling that I had no recourse, I continued to make payments.
I suddenly was laid off from my job in 2008 and that led to me having to foreclose on my home since my income had dipped to one third of what I was earning. I contacted Aspire and asked if I could make a settlement on the account due to financial hardship. I explained my situation and told them I needed to do this because I could no longer afford the payments.
It took two weeks before anyone contacted me and they told me, "Sorry about your financial hardships but we are not offering any settlements at this time". When I asked why, they just repeated the same statement. I pressed further and finally he said, "This is our policy".
I told him then I would no longer be able to continue paying on a card with an interest rate of 35%. The interesting thing is that they didn't return my call until the day before a payment was due. Two days after the payment was due they began calling me about my payment and for the last 6 months, I have received calls 3 to 4 times a day at all hours harassing me about my payments.
I have refused to speak to them or answer their calls. This is purely criminal to me. The company who touted themselves as helping people repair their credit now has become the predator. I refuse to let them drag me into financial slavery for the next 10 years. Someone needs to stop them!

This account has been closed for over a year and for the life of me I cannot figure out why this company can and still charges an account maintenance fee of 6.50 per month. I always pay well over minimum due but the balance seems to be going nowhere. I think it should be against the law for them to charge this as they are not maintaining anything. I am just trying to pay this off. This card is the worst I have ever dealt with and after researching, there's a lot of people with the same complaint, and oh my gosh if you're late, they jack the interest rate up to 31% and they make it very hard to make payments online.
I have spent 2 hours today trying to get to a payment screen to pay on line. They allow people to open these accounts, then close them even if there is a good payment history like mine and still collect all these fees. Please help consumers like myself. Typically, I do try to pay double of the minimum payment but it's going no where. Help! this company makes it very hard to get out from under them due to all of their over charging and the account is closed. Trying to pay online is crazy very hard to do I guess, so if you're late they jack up interest rates and a late fee. They should be put out of business, I do not mind paying my debt but this company is one of a kind!

I, like so many others, had Aspire closed my account. I was never late on payment and I still pay each month to keep my credit clean but Aspire Visa/Bank still charges me a monthly account maintenance fee. I don’t see how the consumer affairs can let this keep going on. Have you looked at the complaints that people are writing? We are saying the same thing. My wife also has one and the same thing went on but there they offer to pay 1/2 to pay off. I do owe the money. I don’t think I should be charged a monthly fee. They closed it, not I. I think that Aspire will make tons of money on people just like us.

Also, they are charging me $9.95 just to process a payment over the internet, when before it was free. This is crazy, and they need to do something about it. don't no one have this type of money to give them, and my balance is 300 something. I should be finish by now. I do not use the card at all. They keep raising my balance account, has been closed for over a year like for example my balance was 568.00. I paid 40.00 and the next month my balance is 575.00. I'll never get it paid off at this rate. They always have more fees than what you pay. My account is not ever late or over the limit. So what can I do? Paying way more than the account balance when they decided to close everyone's accounts.

More than a year ago, Aspire cancel my account without any ad. After that was a nightmare, the interest rate rose up to 29.75% and still, I called several times to complain it, but without any success, like a stone wall. My credit line was $2,500.00 when they canceled the account, the balance was $1,400.00. Now, after a year, the balance is $1,092.00 when I have been paying $100 every month. I paid more than $1,400 and reduce my debt to $308.00. Also Aspire charges for every thing,. If you pay by phone, the last time I have used was $14.00, their website doesn't work for more than 6 months, don't send the bills regularly.

Aspire closed my account over a year ago. After falling behind payments and getting numerous phone calls, they offered me a plan to pay 10% of the balance with no interest as long as I paid the past due. I did that. I have paid on time and now they started to charge interest again. When I called, they said the program was for a year. Even the supervisor said there was no program to continue that. They closed the account with absolutely no explanation and I was paying up til the time they did that. I am willing to pay according to the terms they offered when they closed the account and I got behind. I don't understand the inability to continue this payment arrangement and why they are so callous. If anyone gets an offer to get a card through Aspire - Shred it. I haven't checked my credit report to see if it was negatively affected.

I had an account with Aspire and they closed my account without my knowledge The account was opened in 2004 and my interest rate was 9.9% and now it's 2010 and it is 27.50%. They still continue to submit negative information to the credit agencies as if I closed the account .When their office was the one that actually closed it
One year later I informed them that I was unemployed and I asked if they could decrease my interest rate and lower my payment. I was told in order to decrease my payment the account could not be current. Then I became unable to make the payment on time. I was then placed on a plan of $39.00 a month once I made the first payment and they started calling to harass me to bring my account current before the payment plan will take affect. This has caused my credit score to drop nearly 75% and the increase of the interest rate and the late fees makes it impossible to pay the balance off.

I have been making my payments online for a fee of 4.95 charged on the card, which I did not like but it was cheaper than a late charge because I had 5 days to make a payment after I received my bill and it would take 8 days to get to them. They now, as of Jan 2010 are charging my bank when I make a payment online a fee of $9.95 which was never disclosed to me and I have contacted my bank in reference to the charge. I went online and got the telephone number for Aspire because my daughter, who does not even live with me nor does she have the same last name, has been getting phone calls from someone asking for me, saying that I owe Aspire over $1,300.00 for a credit card that I paid off over four years ago. The amount at the time was $452.00--that's with over limit fees when they stated that they didn't get payments on the date owed and the reason I cancelled it.
And when I paid them the amount owed at that time, I have not heard anymore from them since. Until my daughter called me stating that she had been called at her number and that the man calling was rude. When I asked her if he left a number to call, she said no and that it came up on her caller ID as "unknown name/unknown number."
When finding the number of Aspire online, I called and was asked to give them my 16 digit account number which I do not even know anymore or my 9 digit Social Security number. After giving them my SS number, they came back by saying that they have no record of an account. How can I keep them from bothering my daughter or me regarding this?
It's upsetting to my daughter who does not give out her phone number to just anyone and to me as to how they got her number and used it to try and reach me--and that the man was downright rude regarding her response that she wasn't me and not to call her house again. I know that there have been numerous complaints about Aspire's practices and that I am not the only one who has cancelled their account with them only to still have them harass them.

I called them to see if I can just pay off the card without paying all of that interest fees they keep tacking onto the card; they told me I had to pay it. I asked them why are they still adding on interest and putting on all of those other payments fees when I'm not using the card. The only thing she can say is I have to pay it, because when I use my other cards, I have to pay interest. I told her yes but I am able to use that card; this card I can't use it, plus I asked her if I could speak to her manager. She said there isn't anything they can do. My question is why do we have to continue to pay all of this extra stuff when we are not using this card?
This company is ripping off people and I agree with one of the other people that has sent in a compliment; they say they want to help people build up their Credit but they are putting us in the hole. I want to pay off this card but I don't feel it's right for me to pay all of the other fees they keep tacking onto this card. I paid this card down to $460.00 or so in October and by the next 2 bills it was back up to almost $700.00. Can someone help us find out what we, as consumers can do to make this right. It's unfair to those of us that is trying to build our credit and no matter how much I try they are continuing to bring us and our credit down. Please someone help us settle this matter. Thank You. Since they don't want to help me or any of the other people, I'm hoping that someone would, the more I pay the more it's costing me.

I have had this card for quite sometime now. I used to pay online, but they sold this card to someone else, so I usually pay by phone every month. This card was stolen in 2007, and I never got a replacement card, but I continue to pay. In March of 2009, I had a balance of $795. In December, I have a balance of $1,800.00 which they tell me is in late fees for 6 months, and other fees.
What fees? I don't even have a card or a number to use the account. I can get no reasonable answers from the company, except you where late. I pay the Indians every month. They are instructed to call me for payment, and they do, but no one can give me a reasonable explanation for a $1,800.00 hike in fees, but I must still keep paying them. I have had an account with Aspire for a few years and always made my payments on time. Last year, I was notified that my account was closed, not because of my payment history, but because of the bad economy. I have been making my monthly payments on time each and every month since then. On each statement I get, there is a "maintenance fee" of $6.95! (What exactly are they maintaining, I wonder.)
I called Aspire about this and asked them to stop charging this fee for an account that they closed. They said that they would not; they said that it was a fee that must be paid each month. Now for the last 2 months, I have tried to make a payment on their webpage and was unable to do so. Last month, they said they were having trouble with their webpage, so I made a payment over the phone. This month, I tried to make another payment and could not. I noticed on the webpage that they are now charging a $4.95 fee for online payments! They have never had this fee before.
I pulled up my transactions page and noticed that they have transferred my account. I called aspire to ask why, and they said the account was transferred to another Aspire account? I told them I could not make a payment online, and they said they were "having trouble with their webpage." This is two months in a row! I agreed to make another payment over the phone, and the operator said there was a $14.95 fee for over-the-phone payments! I gave the woman a piece on my mind, and then she agreed to waive the over-the-phone fee.
I have read a lot of the complaints on this webpage and see that I'm not the only one with Aspire issues. These people closed my account apparently because of their own issues, and now, they continue to charge a monthly "maintenance fee" and are now going to charge another fee if I pay online. This is called "milking it"! I have no problems paying for what I charged over the years, but come on, how many other charges must I pay to get this account to a zero balance and get rid of them forever!

I will get a new account number. My account will remain closed to new transactions. I have no clue what is going on with Aspire. I never closed my account and I pay my bill every month and pay on time. If I can pay extra, I will, but they're saying I need to pay off my balance of approximately $800.00 right now. I opened an Aspire Visa Card in 2005. In early 2007, a suspicious charge appeared on my bill. After finally speaking to an actual person, it was stated that I did not need to pay my minimum amount due at that time until the discrepancy was resolved (which is also stated on the back of each billing statement). The next month I received a bill, with a late fee and a notice that my APR had increased. I again called the company, at which time they again said that it was a mistake, etc. and that it would not happen again. Of course the discrepancy was not settled and on the following statement, I was charged another late fee, which sent me over my credit limit, which incurred another fee.
I went on for an entire year with them over this, making payments the entire time until I made a payment over their "new" website, which apparently never went though and started a whole new slew of fees. Mid 2008, I refused to keep paying and quit talking to them. I would rather pay a collections company than deal with this company again. Early this year, I started receiving calls at my unlisted number from them and they agreed to drop over $500 in charges if I set up an automatic monthly account withdrawal with them. The first withdrawal came out of my bank account and that was it. Now, I get threatening calls five times a day for failing to pay. I am at a loss. I tried to pay them.
They have harassed me, my family members and office incessantly. They have reached people at numbers that I have never even given out. My credit score is in near ruin, due to many circumstances during the past year, but this is the most ridiculous and ludicrous spot on my record.

I was willing to pay what I owed, which was about $500.00 at that time. But they took my money but keep charging me the $70.00 a month. I just quit paying them, because I couldn't get anyone to help me. I was willing to make payments, but it was impossible at that rate. I draw a little over $600.00 a month.

The company, even though I was regularly paying my bills on time for years, ended the credit card program and closed my account for no apparent reason. I was unable to make payments online or even find out why they terminated me. This caused late charges. They did nothing to transfer my account to another card. I do not like paying fees to a company that treated my business so shabbily. I was unable to use my card for traveling and other needs, as they seemed to deny my card every time I used a gas station. I became behind with the payments and my credit picture became desperate.

I obtained a VISA credit card from them in 2005. My credit limit was $250. When I lost my job, I was unable to pay the monthly payments; however, when I got back on my feet, I contacted them to try to make payment arrangements and get control of the account. At that time, I was told that I needed to pay the entire balance which had mounted to over $700 because they were adding over the limit fees and late fees monthly. They refused to work with me stating that my account was being turned over to a collection agency.
The account is now being collected on by Midland Credit Management but they are refusing to work with me on a payment that I can afford. My account balance now exceeds $1575.00 because each month, I continue to incur the undisclosed fees for over the limit and late payments. I cannot pay this amount of money. I cannot afford it. I have tried without any success to get this account taken care of but the collection agency calls my home in the early morning hours, late evenings and calls me at work insulting me, discrediting me, insulting me, demeaning me, and threatening me. They will stop at nothing. They are driving me crazy. I am constantly harassed and told that I am a deadbeat. I have contacted Aspire a number of times to try to enter into a payment arrangement that I can afford. They yell at me. I need help in resolving this matter. I need someone to intervene and assist me in getting these excessive fees reduced and a reasonable payment arrangement. They are ruining my credit and refuse to work with me. Please help!

I attempted to make my July payment to Aspire online. It would not go through. I have been making my payments this way for the past 5 years, even though there is a $4.95 charge for making online payment due to the fact I have been out of the country for the past 3 years. I contacted the company and told them of my problem and that it was the only way I could make my payment. The reply was that there were other options available to me. Again, I explained to them my situation and again, I received the same reply. This went on two more times with the same results. I wrote a lengthy e-mail explaining my situation in detail. The reply I received now was that the system to process payments is down and would be fixed shortly. It has now been over a week and the system is still down and my payment is due on the 11th. It is totally frustrating that I am willing to make a payment but the company is unwilling to help out but is still telling me that if I don't make a payment, I will get charged a late fee. I have googled this company and was amazed at all the complaints against them. Thank you for taking time to read my complaint.

Aspire Visa said I opened an account #** with them in 1999 and used it until 2007. I stopped paying. They sent it to a collections company. I still didn't know Aspire Visa or Midland Funding LLC. I felt it was all a scam after they kept calling and demanding payments, saying I had been paying but then stopped. I had never paid them because I didn't even know who they were. They got nasty on the phone, I got nasty. They called at my husband’s job, so he got nasty also. The attorney named above had me come to court. I had no defense to show that I didn't open, use, pay or know of this company, the attorney didn't either. But they did have a typed history of the account and sent me a history also. I had to pay $4,153.72 to a company I never heard of before that time.

Aspire Visa allowed my mother-in-law to open an account in my name somehow in 1999. She charged lots, returned lots, got cash back, cash advances, catalog ordering, went over limit, paid and was charged NSF fees paid even less, until she stopped in 2007. Aspire now sent me statements. I treated it like a scam. Then calls started early and late, even on my husband’s job! I asked for anything with a signature or bank account # P.O Box. All I got was ** up credit and nasty phone calls that pushed me to use some choice words.

In 2003, I had an Aspire Visa. I had trouble contacting this company. There wasn't a toll-free number or a number on the bill, so when I found the bill was wrong, I couldn't contact them to straighten it out. I found a number, but I couldn't understand what they were saying or they would not answer. I always got a tape recording. After 6 months, I gave up. Now after 5 years, they have contacted me and taking me to court stating that I was notified. Out the blue, they're contacting me. But the way it sounds that they contacted in 2006, no. They want 8% more annually. I originally only put about $300.00 on the account. I sent a letter and the card back in 2004 with no reply. Meanwhile, they ran up the bill to $1,166.00 with late charges or whatever they could charge me with. They are just stabbing anyway they can to get money. They are lying about when I last used this card. Abusing me and using our court system to collect money from their victims. They recently went bankrupt.

I have an account with Aspire Visa. They closed my account for no reason other than I was led to believe that they went out of business. And now, I can't get anywhere with them. I make my payments on time and now I've seen that my balance has gone up instead of down. I mailed off my payment to them instead of paying online because they jacked on a fee now to pay online. I had this account for at least a couple of years without any late payments, always paying more than what was required. Approximately, eight months ago, I was informed that my account was being closed. I was informed that it was nothing I had done. I was led to believe by the customer service representative that this company was filing bankruptcy.Even though my account has been closed, I continue to receive maintenance fees in the amount of $6.50 every month. Upon calling the company to inquire about these fees, I could not get an answer. I am also not receiving monthly statements on this account nor is there any information provided on their website. I do believe this company is committing fraud against the account holders and something needs to be done about them ripping off innocent people.

I opened the credit card account in 2003 with a promised credit limit of $300. When I received the card, $179 dollars was charged for enrollment and another charge was taken out. I had a credit balance of only $75.00. I called the customer service to see what was going on and she said those where charges for membership fee and processing fee. I received a letter from a collection agency stating that I owe Aspire $1,500.
This is complete fraud and illegal business practices. I looked at my credit report and it showed that I opened the account in 2005, which isn't true and how can that balance be so high from a $75 limit? After those fees that they automatically took out? Now, they are saying I owe them $3.54. I have tried to resolve this with them directly but keep getting the runaround. They will not re-open my account. I would pay the $3.54 because it is such a small amount but I honestly don't owe it. Also, this was a secure credit card. Shouldn't I receive my security back? I noticed there are thousands of other consumers who are complaining about this company and their stories are the same as mine. I also noticed that New York City has sued them because of their illegal practices. Why is my credit taking a hit and what do I do to resolve this issue?

In 2006, I was preapproved for a Visa Aspire Credit Card. I was told that I would receive a $300 credit limit. When I finally reviewed the card, $150 had been taken in fees, leaving only a $150 balance. For the year of 2007, I made a small purchase and charged $150 on the card. I kept up with payments and somehow lost track and was late for no more than a week or two. The fees acquired for being late set another set of fees for exceeding my balance. On top of that, there were yearly and monthly fees for over $100. In the end, I had $800 in fees and only $150 in charges. I paid the $800 off in 2008.

I wrote earlier about Aspire and Tribute credits cards. In addition to the previous ongoing lies and problems I've had with this company, last month they claimed over the phone that I was on a hardship program; my payments were set at $30 per month, 0%; no more late or over the limit fees for 12 months. I made the payment as agreed. The next one is due in 10 days, but they are already calling me several times per day threatening me. When I returned the call this morning to ask why I was getting these calls and threats when I was already on a program, the guy (Bruce **) told me that didn't matter; they were moving forward to collect anyway. Then when I tried to ask why and mentioned Tribute cards, he started shouting at me and then hung up on me.

I closed my account several years ago after Aspire added fraudulent charges to my card. Shortly after I closed the account, the interest rate was raised. I have been paying on this closed account for 4 years now but I can no longer afford the minimum payments. I sent a customer service email asking for a lower interest rate so I can afford the minimum payments. The response was, "too bad." The company's policy does not allow lowering of interest rates. I did not apply for the card; it was sent to me by the bank. Was I ever sorry I foolishly accepted the card! I understand banks can charge any interest rate they want, but it is foolish to refuse to lower the rate when someone can no longer make the minimum payment. Why has this bank been allowed to continue on in this scummy, sorry manner? There must be some fine point of law that can be raised in defense of the thousands of people who innocently fell into Aspire's greedy trap?

They closed my account without notice and now they are continuing to overcharge on the payments. This is not right. There are over thousands of other customers with these complaints. Why do we have to pay for a bill that is no longer in business and still overcharging you? I have never been late with my payments. This company should be sued for fraud. How do I go about doing this? Please let me know as soon as possible. I don't want to continue paying this company knowing I will never pay them off. This not fair to me or other consumers with this company. The Attorney General should look into this matter or FDIC. My bill never goes down, only up. This month, it jumped from $5,640.68 to $5,666.18; the finance charge is $125.73. This is an outrage on their part.
