We purchased Crest Pro Heath toothpaste back in October. I started to notice the inside of my mouth would peel, mostly under the tongue. The tongue would take on a funny flavor and smells would be off kind, a smoky metallic smell and a taste is the best I can describe. Meat would taste bad almost to the point rancid, though other foods would taste normal such as beans. I did not put two and two together until I did some research online. I found many complaints on the Crest Pro Health toothpaste and mouthwash. I only did this research well after we finished up the tube of toothpaste. None of these symptoms occurred with my wife or son. So here I am now with dry mouth, bad tastes in my mouth, sore tongue and the constant smell of something I can not even describe. I have tried all kinds of home remedies, rinsing with vinegar to brushing my mouth with baking soda. These provide temporary relief (hours) for the mouth but not the smells. At this point, I do not know what to do.

About a week ago, I woke up to a complete loss of taste. The following day was not any better so I went to the doctor for a checkup and he said to me it was unusual for me to lose the sensation when I can still smell as the two sensations are related. After a week of this one night, I was tired and fell asleep without brushing (I know its gross) but the next morning, I noticed that I could taste slightly. Thinking that it would get better, I did not suspect at that time it could be the toothpaste. I had used the toothpaste and have noticed a tingling numbing sensation so I have stopped but have only improved slightly in the last couple of days of stopping the toothpaste, we will see if it gets better fully.

I do intend to contact a lawyer once I have more solid basis that it is the toothpaste. The bottle has no warnings about loss of taste, numbness or otherwise. As a consumer, these products should not cause one to lose a sensation as important as taste.

Thank God, I found answers here. I am new to the Consumers Affairs site. I was desperate for help and answers and having googled description of symptoms (in mouth) which then took me here and the rest is history.

For months now (approx six months), I have been experiencing serious issues within my mouth. I am not one to run to the doctor's office but something did not seem right. Approximately six months ago, I started using Crest toothpaste, same brand my husband uses. I have never used it and thought to keep it the same for whatever reason. I mentioned discomfort in the mouth to my chiropractor (upon examining) mentioned possibly thrush, however he was not 100% sure. Hmmm. I should get to my family doctor and get it treated immediately. My family doctor did not think it was thrush, maybe Candita but it did not look like it but would treat as such.

No results! Tongue getting more swollen (I should know, been mine for over 40 years), sore red tongue (some sores on it), a whitening of the upper tongue surface (that brushing will not clear at all!), a feeling of 'nay-nay' within the mouth (slimy feeling within the entire mouth) as though I was not cleaning teeth/mouth), 100 times of morning breath, a burning sensation on tongue after brushing. It was not clearing up! Help. I was sent to my dentist (check-up) plus to discuss this issue. They did not think it was Candita or thrush but to keep an eye on it and have me back in three months and will re-check. I could not bear it anymore. The discomfort was unbearable, to say the least.

Thank God, I came across this info. I was at my wit's end and needed some answers. Everyone was describing similar symptoms. I never considered my toothpaste, knowing they are the professionals, they know what they are selling. Wrong! I made the change immediately (that was Saturday, February 25th) to Arm and Hammer (baking soda). Sunday was a noticeable difference (but kept to self, wanted to make certain). On Monday (February 27th), a new tongue. Swelling noticeably down, redness gone, and even the white film gone! Yippeee.

I am sure that within weeks, my tongue will return to what we know as normal--what took six months or more to ruin and require me to live in completely discomfort. I have called both my dentist and doctor. I want them to be aware (because they were witness, even they did not know what was happening themselves either). I want them to see the wonderful change. Someone, anyone, if you know what was happening to me, please enlighten me. It was not only uncomfortable and painful but wow, how fascinating when the body can tell you something is not right. Thank you to all of you. If it was not for your experiences, concerns and information, I would still be there and not here.

I bought 3D White and I started to feel like a numb sensation in my tongue, and I suffer from anxiety attacks. Guess what, I freaked out because that’s how you feel when you have a stroke. But then I Googled it and I found out about this page. I even made an appointment with my doctor to have a physical. Well, what I can do now, just change the brand.

I've been using Crest 3D for about three or four months now. Since then, I've had a dry mouth so dry I constantly drink ice cold water and at times, allow the ice to melt in my mouth for dryness relief. I've also experienced painful gums. At first, I thought that I might have something sharp (like a piece of a chip or a popcorn kernel) stuck in my gums. So I flossed, but the pain did not go away. I tried the bacterial mouthwash and that didn't seem to be a solution. The most recent issue has been a sensitive tongue and a painful burning sensation when I brush. Tonight, as I brushed before going to bed, I felt the burning sensation again and decided to take a look at my tongue. It was white and was bleeding. I am scheduling an appointment with my dentist first thing in the morning to make sure, but I believe the source of my issue is the Crest 3D White toothpaste. I am very disappointed, I am a faithful Crest consumer and I thought that their products were very well-tested and engineered. I hope that the toothpaste isn't the issue and that I am experiencing something that can be easily resolved.

I had been using Crest for sensitive teeth for several years, then it changed to Crest Pro Health, but as a sideline, it was for sensitive teeth, rather than that being the main selling point. Recently, I noticed my mouth being extremely dry, and my gums are very irritated. I was even able to peel skin from my gums. Shocked that I was getting a gum disease, I made an appointment with my dentist to find out what dreaded disease I had. He asked what toothpaste I was using, and suggested I try the easiest thing first, change my toothpaste, as Crest just might be the problem. After my appointment this afternoon, I bought a new toothpaste, and then came home to see what I could find online regarding "sloughing of gum tissue", and found this site with all the problems with Crest Pro Health. My dentist didn't bash Crest, but after reading all the complaints from others with similar problems here, I can't wait to try a new toothpaste, and for my mouth to stop hurting.

Like many others, our family has used Crest toothpaste for years. Assuming a trusted name product we purchased Crest Pro Heath. In my opinion, P&G the producers have more than just marketed an inferior product that strayed from their track record. Every time I used this product, the inside of my mouth would peel! Not knowing the cause of this, I switched off the Crest Pro Health and guess what - no peeling. To prove the point, I used the Crest Pro again and within hours again, the inside of my mouth was peeling.

There needs to be a 'come clean' on this one as to what is in the product that is causing this reaction and other adverse symptoms to so many. Someone mentioned Class Action. If anything deserved one, this one does!

I recently switched to Crest Pro-Health mouthwash and toothpaste. I thought it was wonderful and was proud that I finally began using mouthwash everyday. After about a week, I started to develop extremely bad canker sores and went to figure that the mouthwash didn't help kill them at all. In fact, it irritated them. Also, since I started using these products, my tongue has been swollen and sensitive. Typically, I eat large quantities of spicy food and citrus fruits, I have never in my entire life had an issue with my mouth. I can currently not stand spicy or citrus foods because it hurts so ** much. I am completely restricted in what I can eat and drink. So knowing the only thing changed in my routine was these products, I did some research.

Lo and behold, these products are being widely complained about. Yet for some reason, they are still on the market. If you value your health and money, you will never purchase any of these products. I grew up with Crest and will never buy their products again. Excuse me while I go dump out a full bottle of Crest Pro-Health mouth rinse and throw away a few tubes of Pro-Health toothpaste.

I bought a huge pack of Crest Pro Health at a big warehouse store. I thought it was such a great bargain for high end toothpaste. Well, lately, I've noticed that my lips are dried, peeling and cracking. I have never, in my 54 years, experienced this. I've been using balms, but nothing seemed to be working. I also noticed that right after I brush, I get a nasty film in my mouth and I'm very thirsty. It made me wonder if I had some dread disease or something.

I mentioned this to my son last night. He asked what toothpaste I was using. When I told him it was Crest Pro Health, he said that he'd had the same problem. He said that the tissue on the inside of his mouth actually began to peel away. My other son that lives with me piped up and mentioned that his lips have been dry and cracking as well. This morning, I talked to my daughter. She went through this several months ago. She developed a severe cough after using Crest Pro Health and also had the dry lips and film in the mouth.

Crest has always been a standard in my world. I will stop using their products immediately. When my daughter told me that the internet was full of complaints about this product, I decided to check it out. I was stunned at the number of complaints! And I'm stuck with that big multi-pack of toothpaste that isn't fit for use. Why is this product still on the market?

Do not use Crest Pro Health! As a woman with a history of issues with the medications I take and gum loss, I decided to use Crest Pro Health. For over a year now, I have suffered with gum irritation, bleeding gums, swollen gums, and extreme sensitivity to liquids. My dentist was so worried, he had me check my blood work, to make sure I didn't have auto immune disease, or leukemia. I am so angry that the company has allowed to continue putting Crest Pro Health on the shelves!

I have been to doctors, ENTs, and the Periodontist. The Periodontist actually told me he has had countless people complain of the same issues with the Crest product. Be sure to stop using this toothpaste, if you don't like peeling gums or sensitivity. It gets worse if you continue for a long time. Now, I am back to Colgate, but considering using all natural toothpaste next. Hope this brings some relief to those who have been through the same thing.

I am a dental assistant for the past 7 years. I have always used Colgate products. I ran out of the TP I was using and picked up a tube of Crest multicare with whitening back in October 2011. I started using it in the first part of November 2011. It took a couple of weeks but I started to notice discomfort in my gums on the upper right. Then slight movement in my pre-molars in this area.

I made an appointment with a periodontist the 3rd week of November because by this time, the pain is excruciating and the teeth moving and it is flipping me out! He couldn't find anything. I went to my primary doctor who also could find nothing. Yet, my mouth by this time is on fire. My gums are burning and my teeth are so sensitive, I can't touch my own tongue to them. I can't eat. And yet no one has answers. On January 7th of 2012, I ended up in the emergency room in unbelievable pain! ER doctor found nothing.

It is February 2nd 2012 and I am still in incredible pain. I stopped using the Crest toothpaste a couple of days prior to the ER visit only because I couldn't stand to even brush my own teeth! I have had sloughing of tissue, gums and mouth on fire! Now all of my anterior teeth on my maxillary move slightly! I tried contacting Crest Consumer Line. What a joke that is. They have no clue what I am talking about! Yet, there are endless complaints filed by people all over this country and no one is doing anything to rectify this problem and to help those of us that have been victims and are suffering with the result of using this product! I've had 3 patients come in this week alone complaining of these symptoms. Terrified! Some have already spent thousands of dollars in medical expenses in search of an answer. And I ask them what toothpaste are they using and they are all using Crest toothpaste and other products! Something's got to give here! The Dental field is my choice of profession and it is my lively hood. I am a single mother and this has cost me time from work and money that I don't have.

We, as the consumers, need to stop ** around, get together and file a class action lawsuit against the makers of these products. I'm spreading the word now to my own friends and family. Don’t use these products!

I had been using Crest 3D whitening toothpaste and also used the 3D whitening strips. Sometime after a tooth extraction, my mouth began to feel dry. I used the latest dry-mouth mouthwash but did not get any relief. Shortly after, a metal screw was inserted for a tooth implant. The symptoms became much worse. It appeared to be thrush. My Dentist declared it was dry mouth and recommends Biotene products. Even with the Biotene, I got worse and developed a persistent cough. It felt as though this was moving to my lungs.

On the second visit, the dentist prescribed Nystatin, an anti-fungal. Since the problem was not thrush, this only made the problem worse. The feeling that the roof of my mouth is disintegrating is probably the worst. My lips are cracked and dry. My next stop was back to the periodontist. He told me it was severe dry mouth and that he suspected I might have Sjorens disease, an incurable auto-immune disease. I immediately went to my GP who told me to take vitamin B and see a dermatologist if it did not clear. I called the dermatologist immediately and there was a four-month wait. I finally found this website and I am so grateful. I, at least, have a cause and see that it may take a long time to recover. I was hoping for some suggestion on how to speed up the healing. Is all that slime my mouth trying to heal? It has probably been eight weeks since I have last used Crest and the symptoms are only a bit less severe.

I suggest checking out this website http://www.***. I called Crest and these are the toxic ingredients in the 3D toothpaste: Sodium Flouride, Hydrated Silica, Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Peg-12, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium laureth sulfate. I have found a great toothpaste product in Jason, www.*** available at Wegmans, Heath stores and Amazon. Thanks to everyone and good luck.

I recently purchased Crest Total (I am a Aim girl, but there was a 2 for 1 sale!) and after brushing, my mouth would burn. I figured it wouldn't do harm because a quick rinse with water cooled it down. However, as I continued to use, the roof of my mouth became very sore and felt like it had been burned, and all saliva was stripped from mouth, leading to cracks/splits in the corners of my mouth. The nastiest part was that I would get this white build up on the roof of my mouth (what I consider as a form of scab), but it would slough off while eating, or if I intentionally scraped it off. Then, I'd be back to soreness and burning. It limited what I could eat because many foods burned it more and I lost the sense of taste for bland foods. So, I changed to Colgate Total, and the same reactions occurred!

I've been fighting this for 3 months. I now use Biotene wash 4 to 5 times a day, and only using Arm & Hammer Advance White with Baking Soda and Peroxide. The healing is coming along. After 2 weeks with this new routine, my mouth no longer burns, but the room of the mouth still feels it has a "fuzzy coat" on it, but it doesn't slough off, nor can I scrape it off. I believe this may be a type of mouth "scab" and I hope the normal texture to the roof of my mouth will return. There is definitely an ingredient that both Crest and Colgate uses in the "Total" toothpastes that is raking havoc on many mouths from what I've read. From other comments I've read, it seems pointless to contact either company and those that did aren't getting an answers anyway. I'm going to go back to AIM once I'm healed completely and warn everyone else I know. (One other thought - I do suffer from sinusitis, often followed by flush when I'm on an antibiotic. Perhaps, all people who have sinus issues are more susceptible to side effects from the "Total" toothpastes).

My friend told me I was allergic to it, which I believe to be true since all of that's gone away after using another Crest toothpaste. My son has similar symptoms as well. My husband does not. We have used about half the tube of an 8.0z tube over several weeks time. The label reads: Crest Complete Multi-Benefit Whitening + Scope. Oh my God, I could shoot myself for using this without checking it out first.

The toothpaste and fructose mal absorption is the only thing my son and I both have in common and we both are having similar symptoms I feel from Crest toothpaste, and after reading all other complaints. This has to be what is causing it (this is the only thing we have done differently recently, as I am very cautious about our food/drinks and sticking with low FODMAPS/and gluten free to avoid illness). Shopping is so exhausting and I can't trust any product these days!

I feel sick, achy, tired, nauseous, food does not taste right, makes tea taste minty. It's like someone has loaded me up with menthol cream on my body and fed me icy hot for weeks! My right eye burns on the lid and inside it.

The toothpaste is new. Well, my husband bought that, the Crest with all the stuff in it, of course the label only has active ingredients, so I have no idea what it has in it.

I am in misery with the burning mouth, throat, lungs, face, and arm! It gets less noticeable at times then a lot worse at times. I had no idea what has been causing it until my son and I started sharing symptoms this morning at 4 am when we both woke and could not get back to sleep. I started researching online and well, here I am, arrived at the likely culprit...Crest.

Can't even trust a brand like Crest anymore. What is this country coming to?

I called Procter and Gamble, and reported it on the medical/first aid hot line.

    1. They could not tell me what ingredients it was made with.
    2. They said, they have no other reports of these symptoms/side effects (from what I am reading here, that is BS).
    3. They had no advice to tell me how to make it stop or what to do, except for to stop using it and see a doctor (ya like I have money for them to say...duh I dunno what it is or what to do for it. Here take this, let's do a few grand in tests and spend more money on medicine that won't work. Um...not a plan)
    4. They said, maybe I was having an allergic reaction. Ya, think?
    5. I asked if benedryl would help, they had not a clue.

    6. She told me on the hot line she would file a report then did not even ask me what the lot number was on the tube. I asked, don't you need that? Or else it is so common that the lot number doesn't even matter?

What is the point of the first aid line when they can't you any advice at all. Doctors are clueless and pointless waste of money for these issues that only the company would know how to correct! I am livid labeling laws must change. I am sick of being sick!

There has been skin sloughing off of the inside of my mouth (cheeks, lips, gums and roof of my mouth) nearly constantly for the past three months, which is pretty terrifying.

Additionally, my mouth feels completely dry but any time that I drink fluids, my mouth and tongue swell even more. Also, whenever I try to brush my teeth with the Crest toothpaste (which I will never do again), my entire mouth burns like there is rubbing alcohol being poured on open wounds. It's extremely painful and scary. I'm really hoping that now that I've realized that the toothpaste is to blame and have stopped using it, that these issues will go away. I can't believe that with this widespread of an issue, these products are still being sold.

I started using Crest D White Advanced Vivid Stain Protection (fresh mint) a few weeks before Christmas randomly. I felt a little burning & slight white film on my tongue. But I went out of town on the 26th and used my toothpaste in my travel bag until I came home on 1-4-12. The next day, Thurs, I returned to using the Crest brushing 2x per day. My teeth really need whitening.

On the following Sun, the inside of my mouth began to feel like sandpaper & my tongue was white. I got much drained and I went to bed at 8:30 and slept until 10:30 the next day, getting up only once to use the bathroom. I dreamed I was walking into a doctor’s office because I was having trouble breathing and the doctor saw me in the hall & immediately got me in a chair & got a tweak immediately into my throat & I felt relief, but soon felt myself going out as I was being put into an ambulance. I awakened with my tongue swollen & white, feeling terrible!

I thought I was getting Thrush, but knew it didn't feel the same. I had some Nystatin left from the last time I used an antibiotic & got the Thrush; so I started using it on Mon with no relief. Still using the toothpaste, under my tongue and up to the tip of my tongue became rigid and swollen and very red and very painful!

Monday night, I didn't sleep much until early morning. When I looked in my mouth, I have blisters all under my tongue & extreme pain. Most sandy feeling is gone replaced with swelling, extreme red, whelps & bumps & soreness on gum line, teeth, jaws and today, the roof of my mouth. I felt like it was viral and put a post on FB to see if any of my friends knew if an Oral Virus is going around and yes there is. So I figured that was it! I went by to see my pharmacist and he said he hasn't heard of any.

Then this afternoon, one of my friends sent me this link about Crest with a multitude of folks experiencing the same symptoms, as far back as 2002! I am astounded that nothing has been done and children are allowed to use this product! How can this go on for so long? I intend to call my dentist and Crest tomorrow. I’m very unhappy! Some folks have not had relief for 3-5 years and have spent mega bucks with test and even dental surgery, trying to find out what is wrong with them! Finally, to deduce, it is their mouthwash or toothpaste or both! What is wrong with this picture? Who is paying who to keep this poison on the market? No wonder it says on the tube, "Do Not Swallow"! I guarantee that there better be something done & soon. I now wonder if my dream was just a dream or if I nearly died in my sleep from brushing my teeth before I went to bed. Oh and my teeth look just as yellow as before and has lost all their shine! Something's got to give! This is nonsense!

Same issue being reported as others. I was actually online this morning checking to see what this roughness, soreness in mouth, white spots could be and this came up. I just started using this product in the last 15-20 days and never had this issue before. Sore tongue - especially underneath, rough sandpaper feeling on the bottom lip, and a couple of "white" tops. Gums are way more sensitive as well.

After reading all of the different complains online, I am wondering how Crest is able to keep producing this. I will call my dentist tomorrow to register the complaint just so they know. I know they just started using it recently. Their other products I used created no issues at all.

Well an update. I went to the dentist who was really unsure as what to do. He said some people are sensitive to the ingredients. He says he wants to use anesthesia and go under the gums to scrape out what could be causing my gums behind my front teeth to be so sore and not healing after so long. He says it may not work as there may be nothing there! I am scared stiff. If it is this toothpaste which it sounds like it must be as I never had a problem with sores in mouth before using it then to undergo invasive gum treatment sounds like it may not work.

Not sure what to do in pain constantly. It is on my mind constantly. Using salt rinses to prevent infection and still limited eating and drinking, trying to let it heal. The dentist said not to buy toothpastes that say anti-tartar. Just get the plainest one! I feel so helpless at the moment. Hope you guys heal up!

I tried probiotics and yogurt thinking it was thrush, tried different mouth washes thinking it was bacterial, nothing helped. Just this morning, a comment my past Geology teacher had made hit me.

He stated he only uses baking soda or organic/natural products to brush his teeth and if all of us were aware of the ingredients in regular toothpastes, we would make the same switch. I'm glad I remembered that, I searched for complaints and found this site. It is very disturbing and I hope the company stops advertising it as such a great product and it gets pulled from the shelves. From what I'm reading this will take up to 6 months to heal. My gums looks strange above the top front teeth, porous-like and the ulcer is really bad behind the teeth. My doctor gave me an ointment, but I have to see a dentist on Wednesday.

Eating anything that is "dry/hard" such as toast or English muffins hurts my mouth and anything anywhere near "hot" such as a tacos or barbeque sauce burns my mouth to the point of tears. I was used to putting hot sauce on my pizza, now I can't even eat a taco? It even hurts just to brush my teeth. I started brushing with baking soda about a month ago just to avoid the mint from the toothpaste burning my mouth, but every once in a while, about every 4 days, I suffer with the toothpaste just because the baking soda tastes terrible.

About three weeks ago, I went to the Walgreens medical service, thinking I had thrush or something and was told I did not have it, but it appeared I had some sort of infection that was maybe caused by biting the insides of my cheeks during the night. I'm 56 years old and have never done that, but I thought I would give the mouth guard a chance, but I can't get rid of the sores and it hurts too much to put the mouth guard in. And what would cause the sores under my tongue? I can't bite there. I was also prescribed an oral antibiotic mouthwash with other ingredients to help rid of the sores, but it only helped lessen the severity. They are not gone and since the prescription is gone, they are now full blown again.

I just want this to go away and I am shocked to find so many people with the same issues from Crest toothpaste, a brand I have trusted for years. I will, since I have read about this, buy a new brand of toothpaste and hope it clears up, but this has been painful and embarrassing and I hope Crest has to at least reimburse for the medical bills and prescriptions. I really wanted to put no stars but the site said I had to rate this. My actual rating is no stars.

I used the Crest prohealth toothpaste for approximately 2 weeks. I couldn't figure out why my mouth was getting so sore. I eventually wondered if it could be the toothpaste and stopped using it. I have suffered with a sore mouth and tongue for the past 5 weeks since stopping using the toothpaste. Trying to eat is still extremely painful. My cheeks, lips, gums and tongue are all involved. My tongue is numb and I have lost my taste of food. I am sure my cheeks are swollen still.

I dread brushing my teeth as it is so painful when I do. I am brushing as gently as I can but it still hurts on a level of 8 and brings tears to my eyes while brushing. I have been very patient waiting for this to settle down but it is taking so long, I am beginning to wonder if this will ever get better. I am seeing the doctor later this week and hopefully he will be able to tell me how to get relief from this horrible pain in my mouth.

I have used Crest products my whole life. I can't believe this is happening to me and that they have not pulled this product off the market.

I got the Crest Pro-Health Cinnamon toothpaste and I started developing a metallic taste in my mouth. I looked it up because I thought it was the result of a new medication I was prescribed. I actually stopped taking the medication because of the phenomena, but doing so didn't make the metallic/acid taste in my mouth go away.

I just found this online consumer information after realizing maybe it was my toothpaste causing the taste, which I also recently changed because I couldn't find the older type of cinnamon Crest at the store. I noticed the Pro-Health Crest crunches in my mouth when I brush, as if it had little crystals. I'm hoping that discontinuing use of this particular brand type will stop the taste, and I will likely go back to the medication I was prescribed.

For the last 2 weeks my mouth have been burning, and it feels like the inside of my cheeks are burning with sores, and the tip of my tongue is burning. I did not know what was causing this burning. When I eat, it would hurt. At first I thought maybe it was too much acid juices or something, so stopped I drinking orange juice and eating apples, but my month still hurt. So, I thought what burns in my mouth, and I realize when I brush my teeth with the scope inside the toothpaste, it burns.

So, today I decided to go online to find out what was causing my burning, and I ran into this. This is dangerous because this can cause your mouth and tongue to burn and sores. What if this happened to a child, and they couldn't know what was causing their mouth to burn. This needs to come off the shelf because it is too dangerous. It hurts to eat, the tip of my tongue is burning, and I have a mouth full of sores.

He told me to stop using the Crest. Is Crest going to reimburse consumers all the money that was spent trying to figure what was going on when all they had to do was list side effects or a warning label or something.

I'm submitting this complaint for the Crest Pro-Health Multi-Protection antiseptic oral rinse. The use of this product has led to an adverse reaction in the gums and tongue. Within two days of use, I noticed that my tongue has become extremely sensitive to contact with just about anything. Any kind of food would cause a stinging sensation to the tongue, as if it were spicy, while salty foods cause a more painful sensation. At first, I thought this was a one-off occurrence possibly, because I didn't rinse off the mouth-wash properly the night before. However, I took extra care to rinse thoroughly with warm water with my next use. The condition appears to have worsened. I woke up with my mouth feeling extremely dry and the tip of my tongue feels burned. There's swelling in my gums. And the number of canker sores appears to be increasing by the day. I've never had a problem like this before. It's an utter disaster! How did Crest ever approve this?

First, I would like to say thank you to all of you who have posted your problems with Crest. I thought for sure that I had some sort of illness like cancer once my lips and gums swelled up and started peeling. Luckily, I, too, googled my symptoms and thankfully found this blog. I had been using Crest Extra Whitening with Tartar protection for several months. During this time, I had been having problems with skin sloughing off on the inside of my cheeks. My tongue was mottled and my dentist diagnosed me with geographical tongue and said it was most likely caused by spicy foods, etc. My whole mouth felt sore and burned. I stopped eating spicy foods and salty foods (even though I didn't eat a lot of salty foods in the first place) but the problems persisted.

More recently, my gums swelled up and I had blisters inside of my mouth. My lips swelled up as well and the skin around my mouth and chin went dry and raw. The skin on my lips started peeling. I also had blemishes develop on my chin. I have lost my sense of taste as well. I had no desire to eat anything salty. In the morning, I would try to eat bread with butter but my mouth was so dry that I had to immediately follow it with sips of water. My mouth would go completely dry several times a day, especially on my ride to work (after having just brushed my teeth prior to leaving). I, too, have noticed gum recession and the chalky feeling of my teeth and, of course, the loss of taste.

I stopped using Crest about a week ago. The blisters inside my mouth have healed, my gums are still red but the swelling is going away. My lips still feel a bit swollen but are so much better since stopping the use of Crest. The skin that was peeling off of my lips, the insides of mouth and my chin is healing as well. I just hope that all of this completely heals and I get my full taste back. I am seeing my dentist this week to have him check the recession and the chalky feeling of my teeth, etc.

Who would have thought that a product that is meant to be used to keep your teeth healthy would have the opposite effect? I really cannot believe that Crest or the FDA has done nothing about this problem. The blog goes back a few years and so many people have posted and submitted complaints. Yet, here I am as proof that the product is still on the market and still causing serious problems. Who knows if these problems will completely go away?

Me and my husband have been using Crest 3D Whitening toothpaste and Crest Multicare toothpaste this year. For a while we had both started experiencing symptoms but today we both figured out that it had everything to do with these two toothpastes. I had been getting severe dry mouth, the inside of my cheeks were rough and my lips were dry. I got big blisters in the back of my tongue and I thought I was just going through something and eventually it would go away. Just the other day a piece of my back tooth fell off. I couldn't believe it, a chunk of my tooth fell off. I'm only 23 and I'm healthy. What the heck is going on? I freaked out.

Well, I told my husband who is 26 and he told me a couple of months back a chunk of his tooth had also fallen off. My mother in law gave me some stuff to block the hole in my tooth. Just today, I was eating with my husband and another big chunk came out of his mouth. He freaked out and wanted me to find out what was going on. So, for a second, we both thought back at what it could be because we are not suppose to be losing our teeth. I googled some of the symptoms we had both been experiencing since the beginning of the year. We got directed to this consumer complaint page on crest. I could not believe it. Why in the world would they keep a product in the shelves that is doing such damage to people. This is not a lie. People need to speak up and let family and friends know what this product is doing so they don't go through something like this themselves. Worst of all, we have been brushing my 4 year old son's teeth with these two crest toothpastes since the beginning of the year and his baby teeth have pretty much dissolved...we thought it was an enamel problem but mine and my husbands front teeth have chips everywhere and we both had perfectly straight teeth. I feel so bad for my baby that my husband and I went to henry's market and bought an all natural toothpaste..it might cost a lot but so did crest and I'm never chancing anything without first looking into some reviews.

I'm so upset. I hope they sue the pants off crest. Its bad enough most Americans don't have dental insurance. Now my family has to worry about holes in our teeth. And Crest 3D doesn't even whiten your teeth.

I was shocked to discover this website and saw how many people have been experiencing the same symptoms, and that they have been caused by the same new toothpaste I just began using at the same time I began experiencing these symptoms: Crest 3D White Advanced Vivid toothpaste! I, too, have a mouth that feels raw and sore constantly, ulcers on my tongue, dry lips, burning sensations when I eat. I haven't experienced the metallic taste but my sense of taste has been diminished.

I thought I might be experiencing some strange illness, but I have to say I'm relieved but also at the same time horrified that a mouth care product by such a reputable company could be causing so many people so much consistent distress and that company has done absolutely nothing to warn anyone about it's potential side effects or even more important, pulled it from the market to protect consumers from its terrible side effects. How can they continue selling this product? I really hope they can be stopped. I just threw the entire container of the toothpaste away and I will be certain to warn everyone I know, never to buy any of Crest's products again. These products are clearly dangerous!

My daughter began using Crest Pro Health Toothpaste two weeks ago. She noticed a metallic taste in her mouth. Then, her gums began to itch. It was followed by a rash that covered her entire mouth. Now, she has blisters on the inside of her cheeks, gums, tongue and under her tongue. Her mouth is covered with what we thought was a film, but have discovered it is the skin peeling off. She cannot taste anything, let alone eat. I sent her to the doctor. He prescribed Nystatin oral rinse. That was two days ago. She is still not getting any better. She discontinued the use of this product four days ago but is still experiencing the after effects.

I continue to spit out dead tissue but it was bigger than before, and the other night, I had this strange feeling in my cheek and when I opened my mouth I see a lot of dead tissue on the inside of my cheek. **.

Thank you for your reports on Crest Pro-Health Care. I take medication that may cause tooth decay and gum problems. I am very aware of these side effects and take great care of my teeth, and am on constant watch for products that will assure me that I am doing the right things. The Crest name has always been a part of our family, feeling confident that they knew what was best for my dental health. We would only switch brands when my husband would do the grocery shopping, looking for the"deal" of the week. We always went back to Crest. Pro-Health caught my eye, and even my trusted dentist gave these away as samples. So, to keep up on my program, I began to use this product. Over the next few months, I began to have a burning mouth and my gums were receding.

Thinking that this product would help rectify this problem, I began to brush more often during the day. I began to think that my medication was beginning to turn on me and would soon have to change my regimen. Being a teacher, I have "some" time this summer to switch medication. The burning and gums have been so sore; I thought I had really blown it (not caring for my teeth), and when the doctor sees me, he will tell me to either take better care of my teeth or switch medication, after a blood work up and lengthy time in switching this medication. This morning I went on line, and thanked God I did. You are describing exactly what has happened to me. Crest, a product I trusted, has done me wrong. I will still keep my doctor's appointment, to make sure this is it. But I have just brushed my teeth with Arm and Hammer. I made this problem worse by using the product too much. Sorry, this is so long but wow, I do feel better. Just mentally, it has helped me out. Please research this product and help us out. I want my Crest back.

Claim on tube says that this toothpaste will: Reverse Gingivitis in 4 weeks. Number on back of tube: 99472128. Lot Number: 025354EXP: JL12.

Approximately 3 weeks ago, I purchased a tube of Crest Pro-Health Clinical Gum Protection toothpaste from Walgreens. For most of my life I have used Aqua-Fresh toothpaste, but after a dentist visit last year, I was told that my gums were starting to recede and that I should take better care of them. With that in mind, I purchased this product because I thought it would help me to do that.

After about 2-1/2 weeks of use I developed a canker sore on the top of my tongue, in the back of my throat. It was very uncomfortable because it inhibited my breathing and swallowing and made my throat extremely raw. The next day, I could no longer produce saliva in my mouth and the sides of my cheeks felt rough like sandpaper. Later that day, another canker sore formed on the top left side of my tongue. Then, another on the underside of my tongue. This problem has become increasingly worse since then to the point where I had to take off of work today.

As I write this complaint, I am suffering from excruciating pain all over my mouth! My gums are so red and raw that it feels like someone hit me in the mouth with a 2x4. My inner mouth is peeling, like I have a sunburn. I can barely move my mouth, tongue or any part of my jaw without experiencing extreme pain. My gums are red, swollen and bleeding periodically. I have several canker sores in my mouth. My tongue is very dry and sore. My teeth feel loose. My gums seem to have receded more. If I rub the insides of my cheeks with my tongue, they feel dry and rough like sandpaper. I can barely swallow, cannot produce saliva and I have a sore throat.

When this all began I was pretty worried because an Uncle of mine died a few years ago from mouth cancer. He began seeing sores in his mouth. They multiplied rapidly over the course of a few weeks and he was gone. Just like that. I thought the same thing was happening to me as well! Last night, I Google various topics like: burning mouth, mouth sores, etc. Suddenly, I found several sites mentioning complaints about Crest Pro-Health and I knew that was the connection!

I cannot believe that there has been this many complaints about this product and it is still being sold to this very day! What is going on here? The complaints on this site alone go back as far as 2002! Surely with this many complaints and with the severity of these medical problems, you would think that the FDA or someone would have done something by now! A lot of people are suffering here. I for one will try and get the word out as much as possible to make people aware of this so that they can avoid it. This product is bad news!

At this point, I am not even concerned about how this has or may still affect me financially. So far I have only lost the cost of the tube and one day pay, but this could become more expensive if it persists. I wish I knew how long I can expect to deal with this? Does it keep getting worse? Does it eventually go away? What? I can only brush my teeth very lightly with a soft brush and water right now. I can rinse with lukewarm water. That's it! I will keep up with this site to look for more complaints on this product. This stuff should be banned!
