Nissan Pathfinder extended warranty coverage options

Nissan’s Security+Plus official extended warranty program offers additional coverage that exists separately from the brand’s factory bumper-to-bumper warranty (three years/36,000 miles) and powertrain warranty (five years/60,000 miles). In contrast to third-party extended warranties, Security+Plus gives Nissan owners access to nationwide repairs through the dealer network, performed by factory-trained technicians using genuine or Nissan-approved parts.

    Security+Plus plan levels explained

If you purchase an extended warranty through Nissan, you can choose from three Security+Plus plan levels to extend the warranty coverage on your Pathfinder:

    Comprehensive coverage and exclusions

Available Nissan Security+Plus extended warranty coverage varies by plan tier and includes components within the following major vehicle systems:

    • Powertrain: Engine, transmission/transfer case and drive axle (including front-, rear-, and all-wheel drive)
    • Hybrid/electric: Traction motor, power converter, EV cables, onboard charger and trickle charge cable
    • Brakes: Master cylinder, lines and fittings, wheel cylinders and alternator
    • Electrical: Starter motor, ignition coil, push-start ignition switch and wiring harness
    • Fuel system: Fuel pump, fuel system sensors, fuel injectors and fuel tank
    • Steering: Rack and pinion assembly, power steering pump and steering linkages
    • Suspension: Struts, upper and lower control arms, bushings, rods, ball joints, bearings and seals
    • HVAC: Compressor, condenser, evaporator, seals and valves
    • Body and interior: Switches, relays, washer nozzle, wiper arms (front and rear) and locks
    • Advanced driver assistance systems: Sensors, camera assemblies, warning chimes and switches
    • Infotainment: Speakers, amplifiers, connectors and CD/DVD players

Security+Plus Gold Preferred Plans offer the highest level of protection, and comprehensive coverage is exclusionary, meaning only items specifically named are excluded from this extended warranty plan.

Additional exclusions applicable to all Nissan extended warranty plans include normal wear and tear, maintenance services (battery replacements, oil changes, tire rotations, etc.), preexisting conditions, damage caused by accidents and misuse.

    Coverage eligibility and start dates

Nissan Pathfinders of model year 2017 and newer with fewer than 100,000 miles on the odometer may be eligible for any of the three Security+Plus extended warranty plans. Pathfinders that are five years or older and those that have more than 60,000 miles must obtain a vehicle inspection report to demonstrate eligibility for extended warranty protection.

Extended warranty coverage for new cars starts on the in-service date at 0 miles. For used vehicles, coverage begins on the purchase date and any mileage gets added to the existing odometer reading.

If you were to purchase the same four-year/48,000-mile coverage for both a new and a used Nissan, your new car would be covered for only an additional year and 12,000 miles beyond the factory warranty. However, coverage on your used vehicle would extend the full amount, starting from the date and mileage at purchase.

    Nissan Pathfinder extended warranty cost

Nissan Security+Plus extended warranty coverage ranges in price from $830 to $4,300 or more. Factors that influence the cost include:

    • Vehicle age
    • Current mileage
    • Selected term length
    • Coverage tier
    • Deductible selection

Choose from a $0 or $100 deductible. You may be able to extend warranty coverage on your Nissan Pathfinder with no-interest financing for up to 24 months without a credit check, but you have to put down a minimum of 10%.

Buying an extended warranty earlier can save you money, but it’s a significant expense to budget for so soon after purchasing your vehicle. But you shouldn’t wait until the last minute and risk ineligibility, so it’s best to purchase an extended warranty when there’s minimal overlap with your factory warranty coverage.

The final cost of your Nissan Pathfinder’s extended warranty will differ from that of a sedan (i.e., the Nissan Altima or Sentra), a smaller SUV (like the Nissan Rogue) or a half-ton pickup (such as the Nissan Titan).

    Security+Plus benefits for Pathfinder owners

All Security+Plus plans offer the following benefits:

    • Roadside assistance: Receive 24/7 assistance with locksmith services, fuel delivery, jump starts and flat-tire service.
    • Towing reimbursement: You can get up to a $100 towing reimbursement per claim.
    • Rental car reimbursement: If your Pathfinder is in the shop for covered repairs, your extended warranty will pay $42 per day toward a rental car for up to five days.
    • Trip interruption coverage: If a breakdown occurs more than 100 miles from home, you can receive up to $500 toward lodging, food and alternative transportation expenses.
    • Dealer repairs: Factory-trained technicians will diagnose your Pathfinder with advanced equipment and complete repairs in accordance with brand standards.
    • Parts used: Replacement parts are guaranteed to be genuine Nissan or Nissan-approved.
    • Nationwide coverage: Take your Pathfinder to a participating Nissan dealership, which will handle extended warranty claims for you.

Note that roadside assistance and towing are unavailable if you purchase a Security+Plus plan at a California-based Nissan dealership.

How to buy a Pathfinder warranty

You can purchase a Nissan Security+Plus plan online or from a participating Nissan dealership. Make sure you have your Pathfinder’s year, current mileage and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) handy before following these steps to obtain coverage:

    1. Get quotes: Request pricing from multiple Nissan dealerships near you, as well as authorized online sellers.
    2. Compare terms: Review differences in coverage levels, contract lengths and mileage limits.
    3. Confirm eligibility: Verify that your Pathfinder qualifies for a Security+Plus plan based on factory warranty status (new vehicles) or age and mileage limits (used vehicles).
    4. Review exclusions: Note what’s not covered by your chosen plan, as well as any specific component limitations.
    5. Choose a deductible: Select either a $0 or $100 deductible based on your budget and risk tolerance.
    6. Sign the contract: Finalize the terms, confirm the coverage start date, and carefully review all contract details before you sign and pay.

It’s also worth comparing your chosen Nissan Security+Plus plan with third-party options. Extended warranty coverage from other companies may offer longer terms and more options if you want to maximize coverage within your budget. However, you may lose some of the benefits a dealership vehicle service contract provides. Compare several options and weigh the pros and cons of each against your priorities and budget.
