    Nissan Armada extended warranty overview

Nissan’s Security+Plus extended warranty is the brand’s factory-backed protection plan that adds coverage after (or alongside) the factory warranty. Security+Plus covers the costs of specified components and services, as well as eligible rental car reimbursement and trip interruption benefits.

This extended warranty continues protection beyond the standard three-year/36,000-mile factory warranty to help you cover the cost of unexpected repairs as the SUV ages. Since Security+Plus is backed by Nissan, repairs are typically done with genuine parts at authorized dealerships.

Plans from third-party extended car warranty companies may have different term lengths, coverage and prices than the official plans available through Nissan. This article focuses specifically on Nissan Security+Plus plans.

    What an extended warranty covers

Nissan’s Security+Plus extended warranty covers major mechanical and electrical components, including the engine, transmission, drivetrain and steering, as well as key systems such as air conditioning and electrical components. It also comes with 24/7 roadside assistance. The warranty offers trip interruption benefits of up to $500 for alternate transportation, meals and lodging when a covered breakdown occurs more than 100 miles from home. Towing reimbursement up to $100 is covered, as well as up to five days of car rental reimbursement while your vehicle is repaired.

Security+Plus plans aren’t limited to the Armada. You can also purchase Nissan’s extended warranty for its other models, including Altima, Titan, Rogue and Sentra.

    What it typically excludes

As with other extended car warranties, not everything is covered under Security+Plus. Accidents, misuse, problems caused by missed maintenance, preexisting conditions, and track and performance driving are typically off the table.

    When extended coverage makes sense

“Warranties offer more value to someone who will be driving this vehicle for an extended period of time, ideally beyond the manufacturer's initial warranty,” said Alan Gelfand, owner of the independent automotive center German Car Depot. That’s because the more you drive the car, the more likely you’ll actually need repairs and benefit from the warranty. So if you’re planning on trading in your vehicle every few years, you may not use the coverage enough to justify the cost.

    Nissan Security+Plus plans for Armada

Nissan offers three Security+Plus extended warranty tiers, ranging from basic powertrain protection to near bumper-to-bumper coverage.

    Gold Preferred vs. Silver coverage

The Gold Preferred plan provides the most coverage, similar to bumper-to-bumper protection. It covers more than 2,320 car parts, including advanced driver assistance systems and infotainment.

The Silver Preferred plan covers slightly fewer parts, but it still offers pretty extensive protection. It covers more than 1,640 components, including engine, transmission, electrical systems, climate control and audio systems.

    New vs. used plan eligibility

You can purchase a Nissan Security+Plus plan if your Armada meets the eligibility requirements. For new cars, that means they must be within the original three-year or 36,000-mile factory warranty.

If your Armada is already past that window, you may still be able to get a used vehicle plan. To be eligible, your car must be newer than nine years old with fewer than 100,000 miles.

    Deductibles and transfer rules

Most Nissan warranty plans let you choose between a $0 or $100 deductible. A $0 deductible means you’ll pay nothing out of pocket for covered repairs, but your premiums will be higher. If you choose the $100 deductible, you’ll have to pay that amount per repair visit, but your premiums will be lower.

Note that these plans are typically transferable to a new owner if you sell your Armada, which can up your Armada’s resale value and make the listing more attractive to a prospective buyer.

Armada CPO warranty vs. extended warranty

If you’re buying a certified pre-owned (CPO) Nissan Armada, you’ll already get some warranty protection, but it’s not the same as a full extended warranty.

    What CPO Nissans include

Every CPO Nissan comes with a seven-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty that starts from the vehicle's original in-service date and covers major components such as the engine, transmission and drivetrain.

    When CPO coverage ends

CPO coverage continues from the original purchase date. In other words, it doesn’t reset when you buy the car. This means if the previous owner drove the car for a few years, you might only have limited coverage left. Once that expires, you’re on the hook for all repair costs.

    Adding coverage after buying CPO

You can usually add a Nissan Security+Plus extended warranty on top of CPO coverage for broader protection if you want coverage beyond just the powertrain. However, CPO alone may be enough if you plan to sell the vehicle soon.

Nissan Armada extended warranty cost factors

What you’ll pay for an extended warranty depends on factors including the vehicle itself, the coverage level you choose and how you shop for the plan.

    Typical price ranges by term

Nissan Armada extended warranty costs typically range from around $1,200 for a shorter four-year/48,000-mile plan to $4,000 and up for more comprehensive coverage. Higher-tier plans with broader protection and longer terms come at a premium.

    How mileage affects pricing

Mileage is a major pricing factor. The more miles your Armada has on it, the higher the risk of breakdowns, which usually means higher costs or fewer coverage options. Other factors beyond mileage that could also affect how much you pay for extended warranty include:

    • Model year and condition
    • Coverage level
    • Contract length
    • Deductible amount
    • Dealer markup
    • State regulations
    • Financing vs. upfront payment

    Ways to shop and negotiate

Be sure to request VIN-specific quotes for the most accurate pricing, and don’t be afraid to negotiate as you compare plan options.

“Extended warranties are extremely negotiable, and should be negotiated, priced and compared to other sources just as you would do with the car itself,” Gelfand explained. Besides shopping around and negotiating, choosing a higher deductible can also lower your upfront costs.
