I earn an above-average income, but due to divorce and other factors in my past, have pathetic credit. I found Drivetime to be a very feasible hybrid between the "big dealers", who make you feel very bad about yourself, while wasting your whole day and the unctuous "buy here, pay here" lots, where one has no confidence the vehicle will last past the first payment due date.

Overall, I was pleased with my experience. My sales rep was nice and patient. The only real problem I had was the non-negotiable price of the car. It was priced almost 30 above what it was worth. I was told it was set by corporate so they couldn't lower it. Anyway, I paid a little more, but really got the vehicle I wanted. I'm happy with my overall experience.

My mom was looking for a car as well and she found out about DriveTime. I live in Texas and it’s kind of hard to get around with public transportation here so I need a car. I don’t have a lot of credit. A lot of places, either they were quoting ridiculous interest rates or weren’t willing to work with me. This is the reason why I chose DriveTime.

I financed a 2008 Ford Fusion. It’s my first car. The process was very simple, helpful, very straightforward. Everything was out in the open. I’m very pleased with the salesperson. He was very helpful and awesome. I’ve already recommended them to my sister who was looking for a car.

After reading all of these reviews, I decided to try a little test of my own. I submitted a fake online name with fake address and personal info. Guess what? The fake info was APPROVED for over $20,000 in financing on a car from Drive Time. Folks, these people are FRAUDS! The pre-approval means absolutely NOTHING!! They put a GPS tracker on the car when you buy it. If you fall behind ONE day on the payment, all they have to do is punch up that GPS and BAM that car is repossessed.

If you are in DIRE need of a vehicle and have no choice, then do NOT buy more car than you can afford to pay for. Do NOT believe their promises--the salesmen are there to make $ NOT be your new BFF. And car warranties are usually crap unless it is the one that comes from the factory on the car, most will NOT be worth the $ you pay for them, so do NOT count on it to be there for you if you purchase one. If you purchase a vehicle, cultivate a relationship with a decent mechanic for the make of your vehicle. If you find a car you like BEFORE you buy it, take some time and do an internet search to see if there are any recalls on it - many times cars will have things wrong with them they will already be covered under a recall. Lastly, remember that if it is not in writing then you have nothing to stand on.

The only thing that stopped me from giving a higher rate was the fact that the computer system froze and they could not complete my trade/purchase and I had to drive my old car home and couldn't complete my business and take possession of the new car until late the next day. But Candace ** of the Riverside dealership gave me excellent customer service and you seem to be selling better quality cars now.

My sales advisor was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, informative and most of all very patient with me as I looked at every vehicle on the lot 3 to 4 different times as I was unsure of what car to buy or lease but with her help and patience, I know I bought the perfect car. And I couldn't be happier. I also want to mention that the sales manager, Patrick, and the senior sales associate, Patti, were both very pleasant, helpful and again very patient as I was still signing documents an hour and 15 minutes after the store had already closed. So all in all, my experience was great and I absolutely have and will continue to recommend the Montclair Drive Time to all my family and friends! Thanks again! :-)

I was looking for a vehicle because it’s time to rebuild my credit and their program seems to be a little more manageable for someone that has a credit problem than most so I chose them. I financed the vehicle last Saturday. The process was fine and their salespeople are awesome. They tried their best to get you what you want, get your payment need and things worked out. They do work hard for you. The experience was painless.

I have seen DriveTime over the internet and on one of my friend’s license plate. I felt like I can start doing it on my own now since I have a stable job so I went there. I’ve seen that there’s no credit or bad credit there so I chose them. I didn’t know if my credit was bad or if it was good, but I know I needed to build credit.

I financed a Nissan Altima. It’s lower compared to my previous vehicle… I like it. The process was easy and the sales rep was knowledgeable. I thought it would be complicated but they pretty much helped me through the whole thing, even setting up my account to take it out of my checking account.

Jason, Chris, Frank, Tim and Team went above and beyond to get me my new car. I had applied at other dealerships but only qualified for a $10,000 car due to medical bills on my credit because of my time in the military. It was so comforting to know that I could get a new car without my credit being taken into consideration. I absolutely love my new car and everything that they have done for me. My visit was top of the line and I didn't feel pressured at all. DriveTime is honestly the company I will recommend for years to come and when I'm ready for a new car they will be the first people I go see because of the way they treated me and the level of service I had received. I was in a major accident in Feb of this year with my kids and husband in the car. My truck was totaled but we were all ok. Bad thing we needed a new car and with really crappy credit scores we decided on Drive Time. Big mistake. We put 2000 down on an 05 Dodge Durango and we were also at the dealership for 6 and a half hours!!! And anyone out there with a 5 and 6 year old knows we were miserable. After getting our car it was about 2 weeks when the issues started. Out of nowhere my entire dash lit up and all my gauges were on and the worst part was no headlights, break lights, emergency lights, nothing. Also the drive shaft would get stuck in park.

I called Drive Time and reported the issue to them and the warranty center. 7 months later the problem is still occurring and nothing has been done. The car is very unsafe to drive specially when my lights out of nowhere stop working. Also every mechanic I took the car to recommended by the warranty center said there's nothing wrong when the car is in park and the speedometer is saying I'm going 70 mph. But God forbid I'm late on a payment. They call everyone we know!!!!!!!!! I have tried to trade this vehicle in with other car dealerships and also with Drive Time and no one will take it!!! If anyone has advice on what I can do I would be so grateful. I will NEVER AGAIN GO TO DRIVE TIME OR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.

From the moment I went on the Drive Time website until I drove my new car off the lot I was impressed with the customer service. First of all the website is easy to navigate, and the phone call I received after I submitted my mini application was timed perfect, and gave me extra confidence I was making the right decision to go visit a Drive Time lot in person. Second on the day of my visit I got a phone call from a Drive Time salesperson, Rob, who updated me of what I needed to bring in the case I would buy a car. Finally when I got to the lot in Mesa I was greeted by Kim **. She was very helpful in helping me select a car and getting me financed to getting my car cleaned and gassed up. As you can see the whole process of buying a car was made easier with the help of the Drive Time excellent customer service.

Tyler, the store manager finally took over the reins and made sure that we got the vehicle we wanted. Before he took over, it wasn't looking like we were going to be taking a vehicle home with us. It was not really anyone’s fault. There just weren't any vehicles in Ohio that we really wanted except the Nissan Titan, which was at another store in Columbus. After Tyler crunched numbers for about an hour, he made it work and they went and got my new truck. I am Very satisfied with the results. Thanks for taking the time to accommodate our needs.

Buying a vehicle at DriveTime was made so simple. Charles and Tyler were great and did answer all my questions. Tyler went above and beyond by sending Chris to my home with a jump box the morning after I bought my vehicle because it wouldn't start. He also gave me information for two in network auto shops to get my vehicle looked at. My only complaint is that sometimes information was explained differently by associates of the dealership, for example the fee for towing with a warranty. I would like all associates to be on same page and have consistent information.

This was my first time EVER getting a car. I also went in by myself not really knowing the process that it takes to get a car. I am 24 years young and my mom told me to go check out Drive Time off of Capital Blvd. I went and the help I received was excellent. It was for a GOOD bit of the time, but that was mainly due to me wanting to test drive different cars. The sales rep I had, Travis, was very patient with me. He understood that picking a car is not a fast process, unless you already have in mind the exact car you want. The best thing about Drive Time that I really loved is that they do trade-ins and also create a car list for you that is affordable for you income. They make it work so that the car payments will be based on your income and not what retail suggest. One of the managers, Jason, was also VERY helpful in helping with paperwork, making a decision, and helping making everything affordable! I would highly recommend going through these two guys for buying a car.

I have never had a more miserable car buying experience in my life, and I'm 56. Took me 3 days to buy this car. I needed a co-signer, because I co-signed for someone else. The salesman at the dealership assured me that all of my paperwork was done and ready, all we needed to do was my co-signer's part. We went into the dealership at exactly 9am, when they opened to finish this up. We had a non-flexible time limit that we had to be out by. Three hours later, they were still miffing around with who knows what. My paperwork was not only completed, but not really even started. Bring pay stubs... nope, don't need them. Bring them, no don't bring them...

Three hours after arriving on day 2, I had no choice but to leave. Went in again the next day and somehow, got it all together, and I am now driving my van. But, had this have been my 1st experience with DT, I'd never go back again. The whole process was rocky, and did not run well or smoothly at all. I could go on and on, but won't. I'm not happy with this experience.

Now I'm being told to take it somewhere else to get a second opinion. Like I said I've had the car less than 1 month and can't even drive it. All the dealership will tell me is to call the warranty. If i just purchased a car within a month and can't drive, I would think the dealer would want to help.

The sales person Chris was friendly and helpful. In the other hand, Pete, the sales manager, was rude and wrong. At first, he told me I had already used the Military plan, when I knew it was not the case. Later, when signing the documentation, I told him about a loud noise that the rear left window makes going down. He looked into it and told me that the issue was not a mechanical problem. I disagree because all the parts and components of the door are mechanical-electrical, and the noise as it is obvious is not normal and indicates something is wrong with the widow mechanism. He told me that if I did not like the car, I could just not buy it. He added that there was no one in the dealer that could fix it or look into it further.

I mentioned that the car was extremely dirty, inside and outside, to which he replied in the same manner if I did not want to buy the car I did not have to. The cost of the car originally is over $19,000.00 and by the time I finish paying the interest, I will have paid over $27,000.00 for a car that is valued at $9,000.00. But because of circumstances and necessity, I need the car. For the amount of money involved and the fact that I am a third time returning customer, Mr. Pete should have a better sense of what customer service is. Inviting a customer to walk out the door is not in the best interest of the dealer. His attitude was of complete disregard for customer service and satisfaction. In sales, every customer matters and every sale is the most important. A better explanation with a better attitude, one of concern would have suffice.

I needed the transportation and was pressed for time. After investing this amount of money, it does not sit well to have to go to a car wash and pay out of your own pocket before you get home because you are embarrassed that your family will see that you just purchased a crappy car. This horrible experience took place on Saturday. Today is Monday, so I only drove the car for one day, and the car is now sitting at the shop getting the power steering pump replaced because the fluid leaked all over the driveway where I parked it last night. The limited warranty is supposed to cover the repair. I just hope nothing else is wrong with this vehicle. I would like to ask Mr. Pete to take a customer service class or to review his approach to people because in "his" line of work, it's imperative.

    Original Review: Nov. 2, 2013

The people I worked with in Chandler, AZ were great... the car I bought... junk! Like most people who go to DriveTime, really have no other choice, myself included. Believe me if I could have avoided DT, I would have but desperate times call for desperate measures. Less than 24 hrs after I purchased the car, I brought it in for a diagnostic. I walked out of the mechanics shop with a laundry list of serious issues with the car to the tune of $1400. Armed with this warranty that I HAD to buy, I went to a very nice "authorized" mechanic to get it fixed.

After 2 days being without a car, I was finally told that this great "warranty" that I had, would only pay for the motor mounts but left me holding the bag on the remaining problems. I was given an estimate with additional issues that had been found of $1900. The car now rides like a Sherman tank, not to mention sounding like one. And oh yes, leaks like a faucet. By the time I got the car back, my 5 day return policy was up. DriveTime… you don’t help people, you take advantage of people who in my case fell on hard times and had no other recourse than to go to you for help. I've had the car for 2 weeks and stuck with a car that needs some major repairs. If I could have afforded to go to a different dealership who has some semblance of integrity, I would have. I am now saddled with a car that requires $1900 of mechanical work... problems that were there long before I even decided on buying the car. Where are your ethics???

I had written a review regarding DriveTime and and they did respond..... and phoned. All I want to say is this..... RUN fast and run FAR from this place. They are crooks and very dishonest. Their response to my review was this: "The car was given a 52 point inspection and everything that needed to be fixed was fixed before it was sold." REALLY????? If that were the case regardless of it being a used car not, how in the world was I able to do so much destruction on a car, in less than 24 hrs???? DriveTime just know, what goes around comes around. This will all come back and bite you.... and not necessarily from me!

Now mind you since I have had the vehicle, I have had it in the shop 4 times for engine and transmission problems and since having the pleasure of working at an Insurance Company, I am able to realize and see that I am definitely being taken advantaged of..

The purchase amount of the vehicle was $13,231.62 with taxes and everything it came to $14,531.50. Keep in mind that this is a 2001 vehicle. After looking over my paperwork, I will be paying DT a total of $ 22,239.91.. That is ridiculous!!! I was feeling okay with this company, but after reading some of the reviews and seeing how this company is, I am now feeling very taken advantaged of by Drivetime.

14 months after purchasing a 2005 Chevy Equinox from Drivetime, I found myself stranded on the side of the road with no warning whatsoever. Towed it to the ONLY mechanic they would allow only to find out that the engine AND transmission are completely blown. How exactly this happens in 1 morning I have no idea. The "Warranty" department says they will not be authorizing any repairs because 1 of my oil changes was done at home and I didn't save the Walmart receipt where the oil was purchased. Un-friggin-believable. Talked to nearly 20 different employees who all acted like I was the reason my car broke down. Told them to come get it and bring a flat-bed tow truck because I'm removing the ceramic brakes and rotors I just installed 2 weeks ago. But hey, they said I didn't take care of the car so what should it matter?

Everyone knows that bad credit relates to a bad interest rate. That's a given. But, having to pay high interest should not be complicated with inflated vehicle prices, fees, and costly warranties. A good friend of mine just fell prey to all of those at the Drivetime in Columbia, SC. His motor blew up just after the 36-month time period. He paid over twice the blue book, was socked with the 2395.00 warranty and was paying 21.75 percent interest. He did not have the money to have the engine replaced; therefore, he let DT repossess the car. So, I devised some techniques which may help people. First, go to the dealership and write down the VIN number, mileage, equipment, and any damage you may see on the car you are interested in.

Next, ask the salesperson for a copy that you can take with you of their 52-point inspection. Third, tell him or her that you insist on taking the car to any mechanic for a thorough inspection. If you get refusal upon asking for these very basic consumer issues, walk out. If not, begin to do your research. Once home, find out the Kelley Blue Book price. Then do a Carfax using the VIN. Return to the dealer and tell them you MAY consider doing business if they will honor the Blue Book price, skip the warranty fee, let you take the car to the mechanic before signing, with the understanding that you will agree to pay their 21 percent interest, with payments of a no less than 15-day grace period and repossession only after default of two months.

You can also negotiate lower if the mechanic finds problems. Get an itemized bill detailing the problems and retail consumer price to get the items fixed. Then refuse to purchase the car if the cost of repairs is not deducted from the KBB price. With all this, they may not sell you the car, but at least you will have opened their eyes to what informed consumers are looking for. And, if they do agree, even though you will have paid a high interest rate, at least you will have gained quite a lot of leverage.

I had a car wreck that totaled my car on the second day of my new job back in the middle of August of this year 2013. I went to DriveTime a little over a week later and found that I could lease a used vehicle. I had to put down $995 to lease the vehicle and would receive a 50,000-mile warranty with a $100 deductible. They forgot to mention I had thirty days to not have to pay the $100 deductible.. Now if I want to lease another vehicle, it will be another $500.

Within the first week, the power to the lights was going out and my car was sputtering and it sounded like my engine is bad. I was getting about 6 miles to the gallon, but I needed my new job and I no way had $100 extra with $170 a month car insurance, $300 every four weeks for the leasing price and $400 a month in gasoline. Now realize the van is a 2004 Dodge Caravan.

Since it was a minister who's father is also a minister who is leasing me this car and is moonlighting at DriveTime, I figure that this young minister would not lease me a van like this especially since I just totaled my car and have a new job. I am sad to say that even a minister sometimes might make decisions that are not in your favor in these hard times. Maybe he didn't know they will charge you the diagnostics fee for taking the vehicle in and they decide the parts are not covered under their warranty. I don't have that money, do you?

Well, all the electrical arcing that blew out my car battery, when I install this new battery just might be enough to blow the engine. I have electrical arcing that is draining the battery and causing the engine not to fire on all cylinders. All the smoke and heat and loud noises this van makes and how it stalls out all the time and eats batteries. Maybe the next customer will be lucky if there is a car fire before my next payment is due in two weeks. And maybe I will have to call this minister and let him know that in less than 35 days I have been out so much money I did not have. Maybe his church can take up a collection because answered prayers are much needed at this point.

Let me tell you about Drivetime! I have had learned very good life lessons in how people/companies screw you over. I bought a car 7/11/13 and my former car was repossessed 9/4/2013. I was 19. My parents wanted me to live on my own. I had nothing but 2 jobs. They knew me well enough to know I will always be ok. So after a month of taking a million buses, I decided I would get a car. These car commercials were getting to me. I decided I needed to go to Drivetime with the lovely commercials they had. So on my day off, I took 3 buses to get to the one location. I test drove one car. They told me I was approved and only needed 1000 down and a letter from my employer say I worked x amount of hours.

I said not a problem, give me a week. I put down 250 to hold my car. I paid. Then in a week, I came up with 750. So when I went to the dealership, they gave me no reason as to why they sold my car I put on hold. Oh freaking hell, I was mad. So they said I could get the Yaris. I would never do an American car. So I was cool with this. Then they told me, "Hey you need insurance to drive it off the lot." I said, "Well, you could have told me this before I showed up here." So I called every insurance company under the sun. Eventually, I got insurance. Drove the Yaris off the lot. Was happy until they called saying, "Hey, your first payment did not go through." Upon further look, the lady got my routing number wrong so I paid my late payment and the next payment early. I thought I was in the clear. No more phone calls and no letters saying "You're late and you're in jeopardy." My account was green on my online account with Drivetime. My car was repossessed. I went to get items out of my car. And where was my car? Not where I parked it. I called the cops, and I found out my car was in repossession.

I called Drivetime (FYI they don't have 24 hour customer service). They told me I could go into redemption to get my car back. I said, "No, I have made my payment and I don't want to go to redemption because I have paid my bills." I said, "You better put my car back in the same parking space you took it from." They said, "No. Because you called, you automatically go to redemption." I said, "Whatever, I need my car back." The lady said, "I'll have them call you back." No one called me back, so I called the next day. And I was told, "No, you won't be getting the car back, and it's because we feel that you're a financial risk". Well then why in the hell did you give me the car in the first place?

So I have lost my car and my job. All because they are stupid. The only person who has been up front and honest was the repo guy who gave me all my items out of my car. Never get a car from Drivetime. They valued the car at 14,000 plus and my loan was for 24,000 plus. KBB values the car at 6,000. Also it had a slipping belt and needed an oil change and new tires. Oh well, I learned and I hope whoever may read this will see all the other comments and mine and see Drivetime is no good.

I have paid for my last 3 oil changes... Why? Because I use my account card and every time Sears calls to verify so I won’t have to pay my account comes up invalid and I'm standing there looking crazy if the funds aren't available. I had to pay for a new steering column on a 2007 Malibu, this was not my fault. And it had to be taken to the shop 3 times in 3 weeks before they determine the cause of my steering wheel locking up after I told them what was wrong and where the problem was coming from in the first place. I will pay cash for my next car if my credit is not up to par to purchase from a better dealer. But you live and learn just not to go back there again.

On June 21, 2013 I bought a 2006 Mazda 6. While I was concerned about the total price of the car I needed a car desperately so agreed. 5 weeks later, my son was in an accident in which the car was totaled. My insurance paid 11,366.98 for the car but I was left with a balance of 6,800. I called Drivetime and was told not to worry that I had GAP insurance. I was so relieved. The customer representative said I would only need to pay the 500 deductible for the GAP insurance and could come pick out a new car. When I went to get a new car, I was told I would need the 500 deductible as well as another 500 down payment on another car.

I called the total loss department and was told that the so called GAP insurance was only if you purchased a new car from them. That if I purchased another car from them, the 6800 would be wiped clean with the 500 deductible but if I chose to buy a car elsewhere I would be stuck paying the 6800. What I don't understand is my insurance paid the Kelly Blue Book value of the car and then some. Of the 6800, at least 2500 is for the warranty. Why would I pay the warranty now that the car has been totaled? But this GAP insurance that they claim you have only benefits them. Such liars who prey on people who are already struggling. I will eat the 6800 but I will take my sweet time paying it.

I tried to get them to help pay for expenses on repairs which they refused. So I asked for them to take back vehicle and they refused... I dropped off van at dealership, wrote to my Attorney General's Office in regards to the problem with all proof. I received a call from DT that they would zero my account out if I didn't take further action. I believed them but my credit now says I owe them entire amount of loan. I've been trying to contact them and always get told someone will call back. I have not heard anything yet. I am very upset my credit is ruined. Knowing the guy lied to me, they still don't stand up to their mistakes. How sad, they'd rather receive bad reviews than help people.

Just recently we had to get the water pump replaced, the cooling fan assembly, etc.

We have just recently gotten stuck again with another flat tire at 1 in the morning after picking up my husband from work with my 5-year-old and my 8-year-old. My husband placed the Jack in the area it needed to be and checked the jack three times. He started to loosen the bolts when the Jack collapsed and the van went backwards almost killing him. And now we have to spend more money that we don't have to get the two front tires replaced, the alignment, brakes done.

They charge you for the GPS they put in your car. And when you do get behind they repo it then try to sell it which 3-5 days. Well I for one wasn't going to let them when. I filed bankruptcy 2 days after Drivetime didn't want to work on my payments which (I was planning on filing in January of 2014) my car is worth 15,498.12. If I would have let them take my car they would have still tried to add the APR of 21% which would have been around 25,000 on a used car. But I filed and put the car under the bankruptcy protection and only have to pay 11,498. So I for one say screw Drivetime. They are just trying to get rich and I just took away almost 14,000 dollars away from them. Yay me. Screw Drivetime.

We got the car on July 3, 2013 and signed up for auto pay. On Aug 3, 2013, they came and took the car due to non-payment. I told the lady that the payments were setup for auto pay, so what was the problem. I was told that they had not received any payments on the car since we had it. I was also told by the person who picked up the car that DriveTime was bad about that and that they repo four to five cars a week for DriveTime. I contacted someone on that Monday to see what the problem was. The rep I talked to told me to go to the bank and see if it was an error on their part. My husband went to the bank and was told that they have not received anything from DriveTime. To check with them to make sure they had the right account number, so the next day my husband called DriveTime.

The rep he talked to that day was very rude and didn't tell my husband what account number they had on file for him. The rep told him he had 48 hours to come up with almost 900 dollars to get the car back. This went back and forth for few days. On Thursday, someone called from DriveTime because I had complained to the BBB about them. I asked why the rep couldn't just tell us the account number they had on file. She told us that reps don't have access to that and for my husband to give her the account number to see if it matched what they had. My husband told her the account and routing number. She said that is what they have on file.

I told my husband he should have had her read off what she had down for him because I don't trust them. With all the customer complaints they have against them already. Where everyone is complaining about the same issues. They don't send out no letter letting you know anything is wrong. They claimed they called several times but I'm a stay at home mom and didn't see anything from DriveTime come up on my caller ID. We are out of our down payment plus a car. Aug 8, 2013 was the deadline they gave us to come up with 877 dollars. My husband told them he won't have that until next Thursday when he got paid. She said she could not extend it until then, so now we don't have a car.

Drivetime Glendale, Arizona - If you are thinking about buying a car from Drivetime, take the car to an outside mechanic for a thorough inspection. The 5 point inspection is not something that you can trust apparently, because I started having problems with my car just a few weeks after I bought it and only one thing was covered by the warranty.

The check engine light came on (carbon cleanout = not covered), the brakes were squeaking (brake replacement = not covered), broken motor mount (future repair = not covered), brakes are making a horrible noise (future brake booster replacement = not covered), starter went out (covered!), and today, the battery died (not covered). None of things were MY wear and tear. These things had to have been present within the car when I bought it. All of these things, except the battery (which should have been new) presented in a matter of 7 weeks.

I have spent $500 dollars on repairs and I will have to shell out $1,100 before the end of the year. Not how I wanted to spend my extra money. You will find that when you are at the desk purchasing the vehicle, the warranty company and Drivetime are very closely related, but when you want to make a claim, Drivetime will throw the warranty company under the bus....immediately. Get your car checked out immediately, and either bring the car back or have the stuff fixed within the first 5 days.

I purchased my vehicle on 6/14/12 and its first trip to the repair shop was 6/18/12. It has been to the shop for repairs 12 more times since. I have replaced the O2 sensors, the catalytic converters, the cam and crank shaft sensors (4 times EACH!!), the radiator, the fan clutch, the heater core, the engine, the ignition, the PCM (computer) and now the EGR valve. I've incurred out of pocket expenses of $837 (and counting tomorrow I will pay another $200) for repairs not covered by warranty (this doesn't include what I paid out for rental cars) and have been without my vehicle for 72 (accumulative) days and counting. I've missed numerous days of work due to lack of transportation. I've spent uncountable hours on the phone with their warranty personnel...who are atrocious to deal with.

I've had the vehicle to 3 separate repair shops including an authorized Dodge dealer. The entire process has been an uphill battle, fighting for coverage for every repair. A gentleman from their warranty dept named Will went so far as to call one of the shops my truck was at and flat out LIE and tell them I was bad mouthing them and was demanding a second opinion when it was the warranty company all along that wanted the second opinion. The vehicle still will not pass emissions (a problem Drivetime has been aware of since the day of purchase) and continues to randomly stall (You know, like when you're driving 60 mph on the freeway). I cannot rely on my vehicle for the basics let alone any type of road trip or vacation. Their own recommended mechanic said the vehicle is a "death trap... a rolling time bomb" and after spending two hours with me listening to me go into detail about the issues with the vehicle, the manager of the location I purchased it from said today, "This is just wrong... You don't do this to people".

I've been a loyal customer to Drivetime (this is my second vehicle purchased from Drivetime, the first one I had minimal problems with) and I'm timely with my payments. This issue was brought to the attention of the following upper management personnel: Nicholas **, Chris **, Joseph ** and Alexander ** with the end result being... in a nutshell... a big fat, OH WELL. I spent hours there today attempting to reach a mutually satisfactory resolution to this problem to no avail. I will now use social media to become the proverbial squeaky wheel. I will contact every local news station I can think of. I will be contacting my councilman, the attorney general's office and my own lawyer. I may not be able to gain satisfaction where my own vehicle is concerned but I can do my part to ensure no one else gets screwed like I did.

As I suspected and had reconfirmed, the engine once again has to have massive repairs done, i.e. Valve Cover Gasket replaced and oil leak repaired. Also, the Water Coolant Reservoir has to be replaced, thermostat and engine fan fuse (apparently were missing from the date I bought it). The mechanic at Guinn's Auto called Drivetime's Warranty Division and he was told that they would not be covering any of the repairs... Huh... I still have 12,000 miles of the 36k mile warranty. I called the so called "Warranty Department" and "Customer Service" and the actual dealer for assistance. Of course, they sent me to "an approved vendor i.e. Sears at Town Center Mall in Kennesaw, GA" for a diagnostic check. After being tossed around and ending up at a Mechanic whom specialized in electrical issues, it was found that the vehicle: (1) electrical lock (motor) in front passenger door had to be replaced (2) valve cover gasket replaced (3) the fuel line was taken down and a sensor had to be replaced in this "thoroughly and meticulously inspected vehicle".

The repairs took 8 hours of labor and of course, Drivetime wouldn't pay upfront for a rental or provide a courtesy car or allow me to get another vehicle. Besides the monthly oil changes due to the constant oil leakages and the consistently broken engine fans, coolant reservoir and not being able to use the air condition in the 90 degree Georgia weather, Drivetime never has obliged or assisted me. Yesterday, July 16, 2013, as I was driving home at 715pm from work, my engine blew up and of course, the "Roadside Assistance" wasn't available and the Warranty Department basically said, "Here's a list of approved mechanics and tow companies and kiss it." I purchased the vehicle on December 26, 2012! I was a little concerned about getting my car from them, and when they heard I had $3,500 to put down, they pushed harder to sell me a vehicle! I was going through a bad divorce and I trusted them! So some time went on and I needed to get the car registered, but the check engine light was on. In NV, the light has to be off to get a smog check! I took it for a diagnostic and they said a TP sensor was no good, so I took it to their shop and of course, it was not covered by warranty - which I might say, they make it sound like the best warranty in the world! So that cost me $150.00 and a day of pay from work! A few weeks later, my car started to make a loud noise in the engine area! I took it in again and they said the timing belt was loose. DRIVETIME said they just replaced the whole kit before I purchased it. I asked, “How could it fail within 3 months of having the car?!" So they kept the car Saturday, Sunday and Monday because it was such a big job! Never the less, I had to pay the $50 dollar co-payment and it was covered under warranty!!! THANK GOD.

So I get the car back on Monday, July 1st. On July 3rd, I am on the highway with my baby in 116 degree weather and the gas pedal just won’t work or let the go over 10mph! I had to wait in the heat for an hour and 20 minutes for a tow truck to bring it to the same shop! At first, they couldn't find anything wrong with it then they finally diagnosed it as the catalytic converter was clogged! It will cost $1,500 to fix and guess what, even though the car won't run without it, it's not covered under warranty! So there sits my car in the shop. I have missed 2 more days of work! I was told their escalation team will be calling me! The moral of this story is that Drivetime is ripping people off with their piece of ** cars!!! DO NOT PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM THEM, YOU WILL BE SORRY! I was told by their recommended shop that they have tons of major mechanical problems and Drivetime is not willing to fix the problem! I have gone to the BBB and the Attorney General. Oh yeah, and our local TV station! So we will see what happens!!!

Due to divorce and child support cutoff because of absent parent, lost job and bankruptcy, I had filed and hadn't been discharged from the death of my son. I was in need of a good used vehicle so I went online to find a vehicle and came upon Drivetime Corp., where I submitted an online application and I got pre-approved for a vehicle and was scheduled for a test drive. So when I arrived for the test drive, I was treated well. As we started with picking a vehicle, I was looking for something roomy and yet not too big and I came upon a Dodge Journey.

When I asked to test drive the car, they went and got the keys and tried to turn the car on but the battery was dead and they assured me that the vehicle had been standing with no problems and just needed to be run. So we went for a test drive while he informed me that the vehicle had warranty and roadside assistance already with it and I was reluctant but the more he kept talking about how the warranty covers a lot on the first year and that it had maintenance as needed, I really thought that I was making the right choice for my 3 kids and me. The company even notified me that I could pay off some of the interest if I would only send in extra cash to knock off the interest.

Well, I sent 2 extra payments and never heard from them about my interest change so I waited and tried to contact them but I was always put on hold and then the issue of the car's mechanical started and I contacted them for assistance but was just given the run around because they did not have a place for me to take it in my area. Then, when I finally got a hold of someone about the extra payments, I was told that I waited too long, that I can't take it off and that they would just give me credits for future payments but refused to credit me making it seem as though I had not paid my payments. And they started harassing me at work and at home. I kept explaining to them and finally I got fed up and told them to send my payments back and I will make my payments to them on time for the future payments.

Well, the mechanical problem still isn't resolved and other issues are arising because every time they ask me to take it to a place to fix it, the warranty never covers it. I'm stuck with paying out of pocket for the car to keep it running and now I'm so broke that I'm barely feeding my 3 kids.

My wife and I first went to DriveTime in July of 2010 because like almost everyone that goes there, our credit was bad and we needed a car. At first, we thought we were making the right choice because the staff was very friendly and did not seem real pushy and also they were the only company that would give us a car loan and we would get what looked like a decent car. We bought a 2005 Mazda Tribute in July of 2010 from the store in San Antonio, TX. We had gotten an SUV because my wife and I were having a son a few weeks later and wanted something that would be easier to get an infant in and out of.

Near the end of August 2010, we took a road trip down to Alice, TX, as my wife's grandmother lives down there. It's about a 4-hour drive from our home in Canyon Lake, TX. We had the SUV packed with my mother in-law, father in-law, brother in-law, wife, 6-week-old son and me. It had been 6 weeks since we bought our 2005 Mazda Tribute from drive time. We were on the way back to Canyon Lake and we were driving through George West, TX which is roughly about 170 miles away from home.

The transmission totally went out and the car was no longer drivable. We called the warranty dept and requested they tow it back to town seeing as how we had not had the car even 2 months. DriveTime told us they only cover up to ten miles and that we would be responsible for the rest. So I had to pay to have it towed 160 miles to San Antonio. DriveTime fixed the transmission and then 6 months later, it totally went out again. They fixed it again; 6 months later, it went out again. I had the transmission totally overhauled 3 times in less than 2 years and DriveTime kept telling me it was because I was breaking it.

I come to find out they had paid and told the mechanic that they had sent us to and made us go there; DriveTime told these guys to put used parts back in the transmission and paid the bare minimum and that's why the transmission kept going out. DriveTime did it that way so every time the transmission would go out, we would have to pay the $150 or $200 to the warranty department to fix the car. They were deliberately screwing us and I called them out on it and nothing was ever done about it. They were actually trying to make it like it was my fault. Then we finally got rid of the Tribute and bought a 2007 VW Jetta. Now 7 months later, the spark plugs went out as well as the ignition coils and wires.

DriveTime told me that all that stuff is considered routine maintenance or tune up. The spark plugs are routine but not the ignition coils or wires. I just got off the phone with DriveTime and they said the coils and wires are not routine, but they are not on the warranty list things that are covered. So now I've got to spend $400 on the repair, not to mention having to have it towed 50 miles because DriveTime only covers 5 miles now. We have not had the car even 7 months. Then I come to find out the spark plugs are rusted out which means there could be worse problems.

I have filed close to 20 complaints with the company and have not received anything from anyone. If you want to get screwed, lied too, blamed, being accused of breaking things and also paying about 5 times as much for a car, then go with DriveTime. They tried telling us our 2007 Jetta with 84000 miles was selling for almost $20,000. They are scammers, liars and thieves. So now, this month, instead of my normal car payment, I get to add $400 on top of it. So my car payment this month is more like $900, for an 07 Jetta with now 100,000 miles, and DriveTime is sitting back laughing knowing they didn't inspect the car the right way and lied on the inspection sheet. They don't inspect any cars. They just lie and say they did because your average person isn't going to take the time to look at every detail; they are just excited to be getting into a car and that someone finally told them yes, and they just want to get driving.

DriveTime uses that and plays on people and takes advantage of people who truly believe they are getting a good deal and a good car. They take advantage of honest, hardworking people and have no problem doing it. That's why this car dealership is a joke and needs to be shut down due to stealing and some might even go as far to say they are committing fraud. So if you want to get screwed, lied too, and want to buy a lemon, shop here!!

Don't get me wrong. Yes, I signed the contract not knowing any better, but I can no longer pay $400 a month for a 2003 Hyundai! The payment is ridiculous and Drivetime should be stopped. This is straight rape of innocent people and their hard-earned monies... I am returning my car at the end of the month! I am just going to take that repo and eat that. But they will never get another $400 from me! I have paid $5,000 already, owe $11,000 still and I don't see where that is beneficial to me!

I bought my 2003 MINI Cooper from DT 10/18/12. Six days after purchase, I found myself on the side of an interstate in Ohio, several hundred miles from home. My car had overheated and would not move forward. After a very miserable conversation with warranty, we were told we would have to pay $94 to be towed to Columbus. I was not happy, at this point. I got to Columbus and the tow truck driver was nice enough to take us by a convenience store to grab something to eat before taking us to the service center, which was closed. There were no hotels anywhere nearby so my husband and I had to spend the night in the MINI, with temperatures in the 30s and raining. Once the shop opened, we were told that the car needed a new tensioner and S-belt. It was a relatively quick fix, DT covered the cost 100% and within two hours, we were back on the road. The problem seemed to have been fixed.

Flash forward to 2/13. I took the vehicle to Sears for a regular oil change. I was told that they didn't have the parts to change oil on a MINI. I told them to find the parts and miraculously they did. They did tell me not to bring it back to them, though, despite being the only place I can get oil changes done per DT's warranty. Later that afternoon, I was waiting to pick up my son from band practice and my car overheated. I parked and called DT to send out a tow truck, once again. Before the tow truck arrived, I checked the coolant reservoir in my car and found that it was empty. I called my friend, whose husband is a Mercedes/Infiniti Master Tech and had her bring me some coolant. That seemed to fix the problem, so I cancelled the tow truck and kept an eye on my car for a few days. She seemed to run fine and she wasn't leaking coolant.

Two months later, I started noticing a horrendous squeal when I would be in low RPMs. One night on the way home from work, my car just stopped. The Check Engine light came on. I coasted to the shoulder and turned the ignition off. I was panicked but I remained calm and tried to re-start my vehicle. It started and I was able to drive it. I was only three miles from home so I took it very slow and I made it home, safely. I let it sit for an hour or so and then I went to start it. It started fine and the Check Engine light was off. The following morning, I took my car to a DT authorized service center and told them about the squealing, the break-down, another noise it had been making, and asked if I could please get an air filter change.

After having my vehicle for 24 hours, I was told that the S-belt was too big so they replaced it. I was also told that I was basically imagining the other noise it was making and that they "don't know how" to change the air filter in that car. They did tell me that I needed new brakes, which would cost me $550. I never asked them to look at brakes and I didn't have any sign of brake issues. I picked my car up and as I was about a mile from the service center when my car began squealing, again.

I let it go for the meantime, thinking I'd get it to a different service center when my schedule slowed down. On May 25, 2013, my daughter's boyfriend borrowed my vehicle to take some lunch to my daughter, who was at work. About ten minutes after he left, I got a call that my car was dead in the middle of a very busy road. I had my friend drive me to my vehicle and I called DT. They wanted to send a tow truck to me and it was going to cost $25 in overage to get me the 13 miles to a service center. I left in such a hurry that I left all my money with my husband. I told DT I would call them back after I secured the funds. My friend drove back to where my husband was, got the money, and came back to where I was. I called DT back and because it had been more than 30 minutes since my original call, they had to treat it as a brand new call. I was told there would be no overage for the towing company that responded to their request because they only charge $3 per mile and the service center was just 13 miles away.

Since they cover up to $75 in towing, I was more than covered. This was great news! It took the tow truck almost three hours to arrive, which put me out in the blazing sun for about five hours, total. I was so sunburned that I could barely move and ended up having second degree burns on my arms and scalp. Once we arrived at the service center, the tow truck driver stuck out his had and said that I owed him $40 for what DT wouldn't pay. I was livid! I only had $25 with me! I was flat out lied to by the warranty person on the phone! Fortunately, my daughter's boyfriend had his ATM card and there was a Walgreens across the street from the service center so he went and got the rest of the money I needed.

The tow truck driver became extremely intimidating when I told him that DT had told me there would be no overage. He told me, "I'm not going anywhere until I get my money! " I was actually scared for my safety at that point. I got my car signed in with the service center and was told they would contact DT and let me know what was going on the next Tuesday. They were closed for Memorial Day weekend. When I received the call, I nearly passed out at work. The mechanic told me that it could be the transmission or it could be the clutch. He said the transmission was covered under warranty but the clutch was not. He just wanted to let me know that the diagnostic would be $430. Before he even knew what was wrong, I was already $430 in. I completely lost it. I called DT back and was told that the mechanic was correct, but if it was the transmission then I would be refunded the cost of the diagnosis. Several days later, I was notified that it was, indeed, the clutch that needed replaced. The cost? $800. I told them to go ahead and do it and that I would probably have to leave my vehicle at the service center for several months before the bill could be paid.

Last Friday, June 7, I was at Auburn University with my daughter, getting her registered for fall classes when I decided to call and see what was going on with the progress of my vehicle since it had been well over a week since I had talked to anyone from the service center. The mechanic told me that he had not started the repairs because he found some other things wrong with the vehicle. The flywheel was bad and had to be replaced, so the bill was now $2,000! I completely flipped out! The mechanic told me that sometimes DT will tack on the repair costs at the end of the car note so I should contact them. This began five days of the most stress I have ever been under. I went back and forth with warranty and supervisors and the dispute department. I finally turned it all over to my husband, as I felt as if I was getting nowhere. My husband talked with a few people and finally, today, we got a response.

DT has agreed to cover all the costs of the repairs, minus $500. We were told that due to our good payment history, they would be happy to help us out. In addition, they also suspended our payments for the month so that the money we use for our payment could go to pay the repair costs. So, the service center has been notified and my car should be repaired within a few days. I am extremely grateful for the end result in this situation

When I purchased my vehicle in October of last year, the sales staff at the DT location could not have been friendlier. The entire staff was helpful and excited for me to be getting the car that I really wanted. We never felt pressure to get into one vehicle over another, and our down payment was extremely low ($400). I can't say enough positive about the actual buying experience. I have had to call customer service with questions about my account and they are always polite and helpful. The warranty department could use a little polishing, though. I have not been exceedingly pleased with them.

The thing I think most people fail to understand is that this is a high-risk business. DT is there to make money and they don't need to have tolerance for people's sob stories when they don't make their payments. As a business, their purpose is not to feel sorry for you when you lose your job, get injured and can't work, lost your house, etc. They want their money and you signed a contract agreeing to give it to them. You have to put yourself in their position and understand that they are only doing their job. The finance company my husband's vehicle is financed with is a complete nightmare and I only wish they were as easy to deal with as DT has been. This will not be my last DT vehicle, as I feel like they made up for their errors and did the right thing to take care of me and my vehicle. I wish all of you who have had truly negative experiences the best of luck and I hope you are able to resolve your issues with DT.

I purchased a car from these crooks. While I had warranty coverage, I reported an issue with the transmission. I was forced by the terms of the contract to take the vehicle to their mechanic only (this should have been a red flag). The issue was supposedly "fixed" but after the warranty expired, the same issue arose again and they refused to assist with the issue. The car also began overheating and had numerous problems and needed thousands of dollars of repairs within a few months of buying it. I drive very far to work and back so the warranty expired fast and the car's issues arose quickly.

With more than four years to go on payments, I opted to do a voluntary repossession and requested these crooks pick the car up. After two months, they finally picked it up and on my credit report, it stated they repossessed the car. It was better for me to turn that car in than pay for a lemon for four years. My mother out a brand new Honda Civic in her name for me and I'm very happy and fortunate but beware buyers. These people sell lemons!!!! It's better to take your chances at the dealer and get the tiniest economy car they sell with your bad credit until you build it back up rather than buy a lemon from these people. Trust me.

I purchased a vehicle on the 15th of May (that's right, 15 days ago). It broke down on the 25th. I went to shift from reverse into drive and the shift lever went limp. I had to call my insurance company to get it towed because Drivetime's warranty provider is CLOSED ON THE WEEKENDS. I found out that the linkage between the shifter and transmission was broken. OK, I could deal with that, and anyway, the warranty should cover it. After I took it to my mechanic, he found another $3400.00 worth of problems with the van. He says it's not safe to operate. Drivetime's warranty provider is sending an inspector to look at the problems.

In the meantime, I have no car and Drivetime has my money. The manager at the dealership on Randolph Blvd. was kind enough to tell me that I'd be responsible for whatever their warranty didn't cover. This van was never inspected properly by Drivetime. They knew they had a lemon and waited for the chance to pawn it off on someone. I know my credit score sucks but that doesn't give them the right to sell me shoddy transportation. "Approved, Approved, Approved" and now we know why.

I purchased a car through Drivetime in February 2013. I bought the car because I used to work there and the salesperson that I went through was an ex-coworker. We became friends so I wanted to give her a sale. After I went with the car, I found out that my license had a judgement on them and I had to pay $2,000.00 to get back. I called Drivetime two weeks before my due date and told them I was not going to be able to make my first payment on 03/23 because I had to pay for my license, plus my 30 days tags had expired so I could not drive the car. I needed to get it taken care of ASAP. They said, "Fine, send over the receipts." I sent over the receipts as agreed and told them that I could not make another payment until my next pay date of 04/15. The representative told me that I was okay to make the payment on the 15th. They continued to call me everyday after speaking to them.

When the 15th came, I called them to make the payment. They told me that they did not want to do business with me anymore and that I had to return the vehicle. The managers were rude. They threatened and told me if I didn't surrender the vehicle, they would take a class 6 felony against me. When I did speak to someone who knew how to talk to me, she told me to re-fax the receipts and they would see what they could do to work it out. I did and that morning, when I got ready to go to work, they picked my car up and refused to take my payment. So now I am out $1,700.00.

I am so pissed with this company. I could go on a streak and burn each one down. Anyone, do not go there. They are the worst and I used to work there. All they care about is making a sale. They don't care about anything else. Stay away.

From the time I purchased the vehicle, I have had nothing but problems with it. I had the car 3 days and it started bucking, sputtering and stalling. I took it to Cottman Transmission where Drive Time told me to take it. They made repairs on the vehicle but expected me to pay $50 and I told them sorry, it's not going to happen. I just barely purchased this thing and was told that it had all new parts on it. Then just a few months later, I was back in the shop with the same issue, bucking and stalling. The first time, they told me that the problem was a part that was similar to that of a distributor that is found on older vehicles and that it should have remedied the issue. Well, not so fast. The second time just a few months later, when it was demonstrating the same symptoms, Cottman told me that the vehicle had all the original parts on it. Now, when I purchased the vehicle, Drive Time stated that everything had been changed and that the vehicle was rigorously tested and that it had new parts (i.e. air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, etc.), things that would be normal tune up parts. Wrong!

Cottman assured me that the vehicle showed that the parts were the original parts the vehicle came with straight from the manufacturer. So you tell me who is telling me the truth here. Then not a few weeks later, my driver window (which happens to be power only) would not work. So once again, I am spending money on this vehicle when I should not have to be. This is not considered normal wear and tear for a vehicle they claim to have rigorously tested and made sure was up to standards to sell on a lot. Then just a few months ago again, the vehicle was sputtering and stalling. Only this time, lights were coming on telling me that something was wrong with the engine. So I took it elsewhere and they told me that the coil was bad and the plug and cables were all bad as well. Well, it's funny when I asked Cottman what they replaced just 5 months prior and they said they replaced the very parts that I had to spend $400 on yet again. Lies were told.

So now today, my vehicle was working just fine on Saturday, yet on Sunday, when I went to put it in gear, nothing happened. And what does Drive Time do? They charged me $30 to have it towed to a facility 21 miles away from where I live when they are the ones that lamely don't have a facility near me. Frankly, I think they should pay for it since that is where they want it to be seen. Now, they will charge me yet another $50 just to have a mechanic look at it. I am so done with this kind of false representation of a company. I do not think that we should have to be nickel-and-dimed after they tell us that the vehicle was in good shape; not to mention the vehicle showed no sign of any issues and I have no clue why it is stuck in park. Honestly, I feel that this vehicle is a lemon whether it is used or not. How do I know that the vehicle has not been in a wreck that damaged it causing these issues?

On top of all these issues, the vehicle showed tell signs that it may have been in an accident as the driver door is not flush with the body and the paint on the roof of the back hatch door has been peeling off. There are panels inside the vehicle that are missing. So not a very good rigorous test, don't ya think? They do not deserve a rating from me and I think that they are poorly running their business. Thanks to them, I am without a vehicle and I have no way to get my children to their destinations, let alone perform my job.

I wired them the $1,500 as they asked. They confirmed receiving the payment. I called the next day and they said, "Sorry, we sold that car already." Then they put a horrible mark on my credit. When it rained hard, I was getting a shower in the car. There was a leak in the sunroof that had also caused damaged to the electrical wiring in the car. I shut the door, the sunroof would open or the windows would go down. I kept paying out of pocket for all of these expenses. Last week, I was at the grocery store and my Yorkie was in the car. I came out of the store and my car was gone. Drivetime had the car repossessed with my dog in it! They want $2300 to get the car back and $200 for a redemption fee. They can keep the car! I am over the problem with it. I have contacted an attorney and they are going to make sure that DriveTime does not have anything negative on my credit report.
