I was in my 08 Nitro and actually broke down next door to Aamco and eventually went next door to them to ask for help. The mechanic come out to see what he could figure out. He found the problem, a broken shifter cable. I asked him about a price to replace the cable, he said shouldn't be more than $150⁰⁰ to $200⁰⁰ dollars and it was a simple job. So I went to the office, schedule them to fix it.

The next day their quote went up to about $600⁰⁰ then I said, "Go ahead and do the work." Then the very next day I received another call with a new quote of $1950⁰⁰ cause they said they had to take the entire dash of my car apart with the console, it was going to be a 7 to 8 hour job. So I asked if I could just pick up my car, they said it wasn't drivable (Again I drove the car in).

I just had the car towed home to my place, had a personal mechanic take a look and did the job. He did the entire Job and did the AC unit and a few other things all in 2 1/2 hours. He put everything back together that they tore apart again. I drove my car there, nothing was wrong before this happened. Now that my car is back together, I now have a check engine light on and come to find out my side airbags bags have been deployed and cut off. They didn't unhook the battery before they tore my car apart and deployed the airbags and didn't say anything to me. I just found about the airbags cause I had a Scanner put on it to clear codes out and now this. I'm so pissed off.

AAMCO Fayetteville NC will rip you off. Give you one starter price and then continue to try and nickel and dime additional cost that they do not disclose upfront. They claim they don't do diagnostics but checks and to do a diagnostic on a transmission will cost more. They charge too much money for basic things like an oil change on top, claiming you didn't have any oil in it to safely drive the car. They're a RIP OFF. Beware of this franchise.

I have had my truck back into AAMCO shop 2 times since November 2024. I was clutch issues and this time it was a week before they got it into the shop, when I had an appointment for Friday the week before. Then I was informed that it was installed with the wrong throw out bearing and bushings. Then it was another week before they started to search for the correct part. After today, I was informed they found the part, but it would be a week before they would get it into general shipping. I asked for them to contact the shipper for an overnight shipping, and I would pay the cost. Never heard back from them on that issue. That will put it into a 4 week repair time, that was suppose to be a day. And that is if they get it done then. Customer service and keeping the customer aware has gone out the door. Never recommend to anyone. I am also stranded at home with no vehicle.

My experience at AAMCO (8141 N Craig St, Indianapolis, IN 46250) was frustrating. Quoted $1,100 for a P0713 sensor replacement and fluid change on my 2011 Hyundai Tucson, over double Repair Pal’s $150–$500 range. Manager ** promised an email breakdown but sent it to the wrong address, and only gave vague details (labor $499.50, parts $507, supplies $64.99). I got prices for 1 hour of labor and parts only after I pressed. Despite my dealership’s $180 diagnostic confirming no wiring issues, he insisted on a $319 harness, unneeded for P0713, and $103 fluid for my 2017 transmission’s clean fluid. He claimed ignorance of RepairPal and wouldn’t lower to $250–$500, so I left. Poor transparency and upselling tarnished their 4.6-star reputation on Google. Not recommend!

I paid nearly $6,000 to AAMCO to fix my transmission, and it’s been a nightmare ever since. The first repair only lasted 2 days before the transmission broke again. I returned under warranty, and the car broke down again shortly after. To make matters worse, the first time I got it back, it had a leak in the axle. After the third time bringing it in, they claimed it had a full warranty—yet that repair didn’t even last 10 miles before the car broke down once more. This time, I had to pay out of pocket to have it towed back to the shop. I also never said anything about having an unlimited warranty for one year, since I wouldn't be able to drive more than 15000 miles in a year. The customer office told me that instead of giving my money back for the rental cars, they would give me unlimited mileage for one year, which isn't good since I wouldn't be able to make more than 15000 miles anyway, which is their normal warranty.

They didn't exactly ask me if I wanted the deal or not it was just applied. When I try contacting them about the axel they told me they didn't have an hour that I would be able to come in to get my car fixed. They’ve had multiple chances to make it right, and every time they’ve failed. I’ve spent thousands and lost all trust. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place.

Now that its still making the same sound and not shifting still, they think I should have to pay them again for a diagnosis to not actually fix my car. The so called manager was a joke, said they diagnosis a vehicle to the best of their ability. Must have gotten their technicians, if you can even call them that, from clown school.

I dropped off my car here for a diagnostic concerning a fluid leak. The next morning I received a call back, assuring me the cause of the leak was a simple loose oil drain plug and oil filter, the issue was totally fixed, and it was no longer leaking. I picked my car up to find, after only 30 minutes of being home, that there was still a leak. I called and the man said it was “residual” and to run it through a car wash and it would be fine. I did as he instructed, but it continued leaking.

I took it back to them that same day, and when they looked at it again they said it “looks like” the leak is coming from the oil filter, but likely wasn’t the filter itself, rather it was the part the filter connects to on the engine. They were willing to replace that part for $500, and when I asked “but you don’t know if that’s actually going to fix the leak?” He said no. I spent $75 for the “diagnostic”, $22 for a car wash, plus about $50 in Uber rides over the course of 24 hours and still never got an actual diagnosis for the leak. These guys are willing to load up the parts cannon (with your money, of course) and just start shooting.

Biggest waste of time and money. Do not take your car here unless you are willing to spend entirely too much for them to only guess what might be wrong with your car, instead of simply cleaning the engine, adding some dye to the oil and looking to see where the leak is coming from - otherwise known as performing a proper diagnostic for an oil leak.

To make matters worse, I also found a few things missing from my car after I left. It only cost me $50 to replace what was taken, but still, not a good look. It’s also worth mentioning that when I took my car back to them for a second attempt at a proper diagnostic, I overheard a conversation between the man I dealt with through this process and another guy who was working there. They didn’t realize I had come in yet, and the door between the lobby and the garage was left wide open so I overheard the one say he was going to “bring some of those pre rolls” and I’m assuming they were referring to pre rolled ** cigarettes, as I am not familiar with any other type of “pre rolls” that would make sense in the context of that particular conversation.

I will never take my car to this or any AAMCO ever again. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a large, well known company I previously thought of as reputable, and it was also my worst experience with any mechanic, ever.

I took my vehicle for a FREE courtesy check at 1821 S S Rd 7, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317. After two days of getting no updates, I called and spoke to a female by the name of **. She informed me that the battery in my vehicle was dead and that they had to charge it, which took the whole day (RED FLAG). She also informed me that to diagnose the problem, it would be about 4 hours at $169 per hour (another RED FLAG); it does not take that long to put a vehicle on the machine to find out the problem. I thought all along that was what was being done. I was told that she would text me some papers to sign to give them permission to do the diagnostic, and I agreed for only 1 hour at $169.

I called back on day 3 for more updates; ** informed me that my vehicle was still waiting to be diagnosed and that it would not be done until the following Monday because of Thanksgiving and that they are not open on weekends. The shop is open at 7:30 am, and a message was left on my phone at 5:47 am telling me that she had new information on my vehicle (REALLY!). If the shop is open at 7:30 am, how could they have information about my vehicle before that time? (RED FLAG.)

I called the shop just to be told that I would have to pay $1195.00 for them to diagnose my transmission. At this point, I told ** that I would be coming for my vehicle. I requested a printout for the diagnostic they claimed was done. I went home and viewed it, only to find out that nothing was done, and they dated the paper for day number 2, even though they initially told me that nothing could have been done until Monday. I called and spoke to **, who was very rude and hung up the phone on me. They also deliberately broke my key fob, and now I can open or close the door of my vehicle unless I remove the key from the fob. I took my vehicle to another shop, and I got the problem fixed for only $125. The problem was just the transmission pressure switch. I would advise everyone to get a second or even a third opinion. And please be aware of AAMCO. They are not truthful and will lie to you just to get your money.

Towed my vehicle to AAMCO on Aug 7, 2024 because it had stalled on an intersection. I have a professional scanner & read a simple code for a neutral switch be out of circuit. They promote free diagnosis but then called me & advised it was going to be an electrical problem and was going to be 2 hour charge @$140 per hour for electrical diagnosis. Then called & advised it was a crankshaft sensor @$60 plus 1 hour of labor. Then advised starter had burned (which they had burned) & needed a new starter @$350 plus 2 hours of labor. Later, they called saying that there was damage in the engine & needed a new engine @$9,500 for the engine plus $2,500 to install putting me @ $12,000+. After that, I was frustrated, disappointed, disgusted with their misdiagnosis and called their office wanting to speak with the manager; who returned my call the following day.

After a 30 minute conversation of him trying to persuade me of how honest and hard they work and initially he stated there was pages of diagnostic codes my vehicle had & images used with a borescope to look into the engine (all which were never showed to me), it was agreed that I would be able to tow away my vehicle out of their shop at no cost; since there was no fix. However, I had to spend $450 on a new starter that they had burned by kept on cranking it until it burned and tow fees. Initially their front desk person Lied to me, telling me they no longer had my original starter because it was traded in as a core. However, after the long conversation with their manager he finally said my starter was there & will give it to me.

Took vehicle to a mechanic referred by my father-in-law & after disassembling the engine, realized that there was no damage whatsoever in the the engine. Then, looked elsewhere to troubleshoot and saw alternator which was what created the initial issue and it would have been just a simple fix if AAMCO's mechanic were looking in the right direction or if they weren't trying to rip me off with a brand new engine & labor cost & still wouldn't have fix the issue. I am writing this to make you all are aware of their dishonesty, incompetence, & how they prey on people.

They said my transmission needed rebuilt and that would cost almost $8,000. I said I will pass in that and asked if the price can go lower. They said they will call me back and hung up. Then I found a transmission that was perfectly fine when it was pulled out of another truck and I took it to Aamco. They said it would be $4,000 to put it in so I said okay. They called me when it was in and said it was a broken transmission. I understand that you want me to rephrase and correct the text you provided. Please allow me to paraphrase it for you. I am writing to express my disappointment with the service I received from AAMCO at 202 Racetrack Rd NE, Ft Walton Beach, FL 32547. On June 15th, 2023, I brought my car to your store to fix a battery issue. However, I received a call a few hours later saying that my motor mounts were severely damaged and needed to be replaced immediately. I was quoted $657.27 over the phone, with the assurance that the job would be completed on the same day. Later that day, I got another call telling me that my control arm had been broken during the repair, and the car would not be ready that day. I picked up my car the next day, and I thought the issue had been resolved. However, during a recent inspection at Fort Walton Radiator & Air, I was informed that my motor mounts still needed replacement.

I immediately brought the car back to AAMCO and expressed my concern. They asked me to bring it back the next day. I took the day off from work, and when I brought it in, they told me that they only replaced two of the four motor mounts because only two were bad. I spoke to Danny at Fort Walton Radiator & Air, who was surprised that AAMCO said the two extremely bad motor mounts weren't in that condition at the time of service. He also said that if two motor mounts had failed, any reputable shop would replace all four. After speaking with Danny and another shop, I believe that all four motor mounts were 100% gone at the time of the June 15th service. However, only two of them were replaced, and the job was left half-done due to the expenses associated with replacing the control arm.

DO NOT GO TO AAMCO TRANSMISSIONS. On 9/6/21, I was driving around Boise, ID delivering vehicle parts as a full-time job in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport when my transmission goes out. Irritating, but the transmission did have 113,970 miles on it. I knew by the way the Jeep was driving that the transmission was going to need an overhaul, or replacement so I nursed it to AAMCO Transmissions on Fairview Ave.

I remember when I dropped off my Jeep, I pleaded with the manager to get it fixed as soon as possible because I couldn’t earn a paycheck until it was done this being my only vehicle. Strike one. I did not receive a phone call to update me on the problem, what time frame to expect, or the cost, until seven days later to tell me my vehicle was ready to be picked up.

When I pick my Jeep up on 9/13/21, he tells me the transmission was a total loss and had to be replaced. He briefly went over the bill and 18 month/18,000 mile warranty with me, then rang me up for $3,026.80. If I am delivering car parts for a full-time job, I am sure it is obvious how much that set me back. My only positive thought at the time was this should be the last transmission expense for a very long time, if not for the lifetime of the Jeep.

For the next two years, the use of the Jeep has been very mild. I have driven to and from work which is three miles away, to the grocery store, and two trips to the campgrounds around Arrowrock Reservoir. Nothing punishing to the transmission whatsoever and never once did I even put it into four-wheel drive. On November 30, 2023, I left work, jumped in my Jeep, started the engine and immediately got this horrible whine coming from the transmission. I thought maybe it was the cold causing it. It was a very cold morning, and it was barely above freezing when I left work. As I drove home, the transmission slipped several times causing the engine to rev up. I could not stop thinking “this could not be the transmission going out. It is barely two years old”.

The next morning, I had to nurse my Jeep to the nearest AAMCO Transmissions which was luckily only two miles away. I was confident that this very expensive repair was not going to fall on me because the transmission had to be still under warranty that AAMCO was “known for”. When I arrived AAMCO Transmissions on Fairview in Boise, I told the manager what was going on and he sent a mechanic out to test drive my Jeep. The Jeep didn’t make it out of the parking lot because it was slipping so badly. The mechanic came back into the shop and I overheard him tell the manager “that transmission is smoked… and it has been smoked for a while because you can smell burning transmission fluid”.

When the manager re-approached me at the counter, I handed him my warranty paperwork, billing invoice, and receipt for $3,026.80 that I had paid this same shop just twenty-two months before and said “I hope you guys guarantee your work”. He looked over my paperwork for a quick five seconds and said my Jeep was “out of warranty” but not to worry because he was going to try and save me money wherever he could. He further made the comment that “even though my warranty expired, he prefers happy customers over angry ones”.

The odometer on my Jeep at the time of drop off was 122,423. That’s only 8,453 miles on the transmission that this shop bought and installed just 22 months ago. I was still in warranty by 9,547 miles, but out of warranty by eight months. On 12/12/23 (twelve days later), I had not received any type of call, or text telling me when to expect my Jeep back, or estimate on the bill, when I finally get a text early afternoon that my Jeep was finished. To break this down further… that’s twelve days of having to Uber to and from work.

When I get to AAMCO Transmissions on Fairview Ave. in Boise, the manager tells me it was not the transmission that failed, but the torque converter. He said the torque converter was under warranty through the guy he buys them from, and the guy agreed to cover the cost of the part. I was charged $1,758.20 for labor, $298.00 for parts, $75.00 for supplies, and $22.38 tax for a total of $2,153.58. It’s only my opinion, but I feel the manager really missed out on an opportunity for good customer service. The parts and labor he is supposed to guarantee only lasted 8,453 miles and he still happily charged me $2,153.58. Transmissions are supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. Take your vehicle somewhere else.

Due to our warranty Aamco is the shop used so we have no choice in the matter unfortunately. Since purchasing our vehicle we have had it in the Council Bluffs, IA Aamco location twice. Each time we are told our vehicle will be done in a bout a week (this has not been true EVER)! We also live an hour away from CB and both work out of town from where we live so having one vehicle is a huge pain and costs a ton in gas! The first time it took a MONTH to get our vehicle back and this time it has been 3 weeks so far.

Again, we were told each time it would be about a week due to the work being done, but every time we call they have a new excuse for why it's going to take longer and longer, just today it was because people call in and don't show up. This is NOT the consumer's problem. This is due to Aamco hiring LAZY MORONS to work for them. I cannot stress how much I hate this location and maybe they are not all like this but each time for us has been a huge nightmare! DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!
