The system works well. My mother has needed it several times. There is a short delay for someone to come on; I believe this is to allow you time to reset it if you accidentally hit the button. The operator does a very good job at getting the paramedics alerted and on their way. They also notify me so I can respond as well.

I just started this service for my mom who is a fall risk. Thankfully, we have not needed Alert1 in an emergency. I test the system roughly once a week and always get a quick and friendly response. I feel much better knowing that my mom is protected in case of an emergency. Thanks Alert1 for the added peace of mind.

My father recently passed at 90 years old. And we used the Alert1 system to ensure that he would be taken care of just in case one of his 10 children was not with him for even a moment. Fortunately, we never needed to use the Alert1 but it made my dad and all of his children feel safe, just in case. When it was delivered and we set it up with a button in the bathroom and his neck button on him, you could see dad relaxed. Just knowing that help was a button press away was a great comfort to him and to all of us. Thank you for that!

Never expected to ask for help with this - We have Alert1 for my mother who lives alone in an apartment. During an unseasonal snowstorm in October, the electricity in her apartment went out. She used her Alert1 button to summon help to get out of her recliner because she was in a reclined position and the chair is powered electrically.

I moved into Babylon in 2009 after the sudden death of my husband. For the first time in my life, I was living alone. At the recommendation of a good friend, I purchased an Alert1. I cannot fully explain the sense of comfort this unit has provided. Thank God I have not had the necessity of using my unit in an emergency, but occasionally, when a power surge has occurred or I have accidentally hit the button, the sound of a voice asking if everything is okay is a wonderful feeling. I have recommended Alert1 to many of the people I meet, especially when I am facilitating a widow's bereavement group and many of the people in the group are experiencing the same feelings of being alone for the first time. Alert1 is a wonderful product and one I am most grateful for.

My mother had fallen here at home and had a nasty cut above her eyebrow. She had lost her balance. My mother was very nervous because at the age of 85 years old, she had never been in the hospital for any surgeries of any kind. And when we buzzed the button for Alert1, they answered right away. They took the information from us, and by the time we knew it, the ambulance was here, and calmed my mother. She was taken to the hospital and got 22 stitches on her eyebrow. I surely recommend Alert1 to the elderly loved ones.

Mom, 81 years old, was determined to go home after a hospital stay and some time in the rehab facility. She was getting around pretty good on a walker until she got tangled up in it in the bathroom and fell. She broke her hip and could not get up. She did not have her phone with her, but was wearing the Alert1 pendant around her neck. She pushed the button and Alert1 sent an ambulance to her home and called me to advise me of the situation. Mom could have been in the floor for several hours without the Alert1 she had to use. We can't be with her 24 hours a day and the Alert1 offers a level of comfort otherwise unavailable. We highly recommend the Alert1 for anyone, of any age, living alone.

My husband and I have Alert1 for my mom. She had a couple of strokes 20 years ago and it was two days before she was found at home. We wanted to make sure that if she ever had another problem she would be covered. We have the pendant for her and two extra buttons strategically placed around her home. We've been blessed that she hasn't needed to use the service but are extremely comforted that it's there should she need it.

After researching medical alert companies, we decided to subscribe to Alert1 for my elderly mother-in-law. From my first inquiry call to placing an order, activating her new system, and conversations regarding a couple false alarms, I have found everyone at Alert1 to be extremely helpful, patient, responsive, professional and kind. You have answered questions, help test her system, called the paramedics when necessary and responded in every way that we had hoped. Thank you for your efforts to provide quality, caring service.

Before I had Alert 1, I experienced a very hard fall on the foyer tile. I was carrying a clothes basket to the laundry when one of my dogs crossed in front of me. The basket completely blocked my view and I fell forward over him. The pain was horrible. I laid on the floor crying for some time before I attempted to get up. It's amazing I didn't break my kneecaps. But after that happened, I worried about living alone, being seriously hurt and unable to get help. It was very clear to me to start thinking about getting an alert system. I needed to do it. I now have Alert1 and feel secure knowing that in an emergency, it is possible for me to get help.

My mother was attacked in her home coming out of her bathroom one evening and the attacker was scared off by the knowledge that my mother was able to summon help by pressing her help button. The police were summoned and she was saved from a much worse consequence. I, along with my other family members, was notified and kept abreast of her progress until she was taken to the hospital to be checked out. I am grateful for Alert One's fast response and follow-up and have recommended them to many friends with elderly parents and friends who could need assistance.

We secured the Alert1 service for my mother-in-law. She had fallen and broken a hip and laid without help for a while until the pastor's wife called, concerned that she hadn't arrived at church. After her repair and rehab, she wanted to return to her home. She lives alone. We secured the Alert1 services for her peace of mind and ours. With the service, we know help is a push of a button away. About a year later, she fell again and thankfully had the Alert1 system to use to summon help. Another broken hip and rehab and we were able to have her return to her own home again.
The Alert1 staff is professional and helpful. They always followed protocol and showed concern that mom receives the care she needed. They were patient when she set off the system accidentally. They called to follow up after they assisted securing care. We were so happy with their service, we secured it for my parents. My father wears his Alert1 wristband at all times. He said that he feels more confident wearing the band. My mother-in-law comments in every greeting card she sent how much she appreciates her button. Thank you for the wonderful service and the peace of mind you offer.

I have not had an emergency yet and so my rating is based on the peripheral service. Sometimes it is good and sometimes not. The good service apologizes for the bad. The unit breaks up when the operator speaks but they heard me fine. It has been replaced once already. There is no easy control getting it; you have to happen to be. They don't do anything to accommodate that.

My brother and I subscribed to the service for our elderly parents, both of whom are still living in their home, after several situations occurred where they needed to reach us for help right away. With Alert1, we are assured that if either of them needs assistance right away, they can call someone quickly, at the push of a button. My dad pushed it once when he had fallen. Both my brother and I received calls on our home and cell phones to let us know we were needed and why. We were able to respond quickly and averted my dad from calling an ambulance, which would not have been needed. We saved time and money and were able to respond to my dad's needs right away. I would recommend this service to anyone who needs the help, not to mention the peace of mind in knowing that help is on the way immediately.

The first goal is to get your elderly parent to get in the habit of wearing it all the time. My mother fell last July in her kitchen and broke her hip. Despite having two buttons, and the hall button, she took it off because she was a little hot and "didn't want to get the button sweaty". Anyway, she dragged herself through the kitchen, by the hall button and out to the porch ramp and yelled until an unknown passer-by stopped and came to her assistance. She told the man to just push the button in the hall that she crawled past earlier, so that emergency people would come. She was obviously not thinking clearly and in severe pain earlier. So, he did. The response was amazing and quick. She now never takes it off.

She also had an incident a few weeks ago, when she was gardening and hit her necklace/alert as she was planting vegetables. She wasn't near the answering machine so she didn't know you were trying to get in touch with her. The EMTs came quickly and also my sister-in-law. My mother came to visit me from Pennsylvania last August 2011 and went into heart failure. To make a long story short, she stayed with us until October. I was anxious about this decision so I began to look into "home alert systems" and discovered Alert1. I called immediately and was impressed with your phone representative so I purchased the system that day. My mother went home and on Thanksgiving Eve she pushed her button and the response was immediate it saved her life. Again moving on, she had to use the Alert1 again in January and February 2012. Without this device, she would not be here with us happily living at an excellent assistant living facility. After trying to convince her to move here and be with us, we knew it just was not what she wanted to do. Her "Texas Family" was her life and her support system, so we called Alert1. I ordered Alert1 first for my mom who lives in a senior housing apartment in Portland, Oregon. I had gone to see mom and found her completely unclothed, freezing, and sobbing in her bedroom where she had fallen after taking a shower. She had been alone and extremely frightened for over 2 hours and I was terrified.
About a year later, I got another Alert1 for my mother-in-law who lived with us but spent time alone. We live in the middle of nowhere and it was unlikely that anyone would have heard her cry for help. As it turned out, we were here when she did fall but I know she felt secure having that button right at her side all the time. My mom was not wearing the button enough but when my mother-in-law fell, she decided it was time.
I wish my mom did not live alone but that is what she wants. At least with Alert1, I know she is never really alone. Mom uses a power chair outside and a walker in the apartment. She has had several breaks in her back and has additional medical problems that make her an extremely high risk for falling. Edie, my mother-in-law, passed away at age 92 last month. My mom is almost 83 and I hope she will be around for a long time. And I especially hope that the quality of her life will remain such that she can maintain her independence for as long as possible. Alert1 will go a long way in making that happen.
My husband and I belong to a boating organization that has several elderly members who live alone. I am a walking promotion for Alert1 simply because I know it can mean the difference between life and death. I know that many of our friends feel very alone and I know from personal experience with our mom's that the fear of being alone is so much reduced by knowing someone from Alert1 is just the push of a button away.

While she wasn't clicking her heels with joy, she was able to make the adjustment to having it and using it. When my mother pressed the button, which she did, the service she received was very good, professional and quality.

When making my monthly security check a few months ago, I found that though my pendant could notify your operator that I had activated the alert, your system could not respond to me through my console. Very properly, your operator notified my neighbor that there was a problem. Upon contacting your Customer Service Department, I was connected to your tech staff. What a joy this gentleman was to work with! As an 82 year old technology deficient woman, I'm sure I stretched his patience to the limit, but he was so kind and helpful as searched for my glasses, looked for a flashlight, searched for the proper telephone line, and faithfully followed his instructions. The problem was that I needed a DSL filter, which I found easily with his help. I was able to install the filter myself and felt like I had joined the hi-tech world. Not only that, but excellent services for less than the price than "the other guys." I do wish Alert1 had the "fall alert" available as I have a parent who suffers falls. Now with Alert1, I know that anytime, day or night, I can push a button and have a person ask me if I'm all right. Also, each month, they check to see if the system is still working well. We did call her back directly a week later, and she walked us through the entire process and discussed all options clearly with us. The system was received quickly, and was simple to install. My 90-year old father had to use the Alert1 less than 3 months into the services. Early morning, he was feeling very uneasy. His wife who is 88 yrs. old reached for the button around her neck. In a very short time, Alert1 responded. She hollered back, "My husband is having problems breathing." No questions or delay, the Alert1 operator told the reassuring words, "help is on the way." This happened a few days later, again, after Dad was released from the hospital. A nurse was visiting, attending to Dad. She said, "We need to check with Doctor." Calling the doctor and telling her concerns, the nurse responded, "We must get your Dad back to the hospital." We called Alert1 again and apologized for calling. The operator responded, "No need to apologize, help is on the way." Father is doing great. He needed a pacemaker, and is very thankful for Alert1. It works. I purchased the system for both of my elderly parents. My father is very hard of hearing and late one night when my mother recently fell, he couldn't hear her calling for help. Even though we live next door to them, I was uneasy wondering what could have happened or what would maybe happen next time.
Also, at this time, my husband and I were to go on a mission trip to Spain. As our departure date grew closer, I became more and more apprehensive related to leaving them without help. I had checked into several systems and read as much as I could about each one. The reviews related to Alert1 helped me to make my decision. We were able to get the system set up without any difficulty the week before we left. I had purchased the additional voice extender thinking it would make it easier for my father to hear. My husband told his mom about it and she suggested Alert1 as she uses the service in Glendale, Arizona. It is competitively-priced and has great reviews. We also liked the different payment options. It is the cheapest, tackiest armband I could ever imagine and I would not be seen wearing it. I haven't really checked into any comparable service because I feel I would have the same problems.

I would recommend Alert1. It gives me a peace of mind that someone is watching over my husband, even if I am not home. Luckily, we have not used the service for an emergency, but my husband has tripped off his pendant on numerous occasions. The attendant on the other end of the line has always been prompt and courteous in their response. My father also uses Alert1. We had an "equipment failure" (due to a mistakenly pulled plug) and we were notified in a timely manner so that I was able to figure out the problem. I have renewed our contract for another year - best money I have ever spent!

My elderly father has had to push the button a number of times. The response has always been swift and courteous. For most of these times, he needed an ambulance. But one time he told them he didn't need to go to the hospital, but just needed help getting up because he'd fallen. They sent EMTs and he was soon back in his chair and doing fine. I also appreciate the fact that Alert1 has not pestered me and other family members with sales calls.

I researched various systems online for my 87-year-old mother-in-law and the cost and reviews of Alert1 made more sense to me than any of the other systems out there. When I called to inquire about the system, the customer service rep was very nice and informative. Everything that he told me was reinforced when I called back several days later. The price didn't change and neither did the benefits that I was told. When I received the Alert1, it was very easy to set up and we tested it right away and were contacted in less than a minute. After we had it for 30 days, we pushed the button for the monthly test that was recommended and the call came in in less than 20 seconds. We are very happy and confident in the system and not leery of being away from home and leaving her alone. It is a great peace of mind and you can't put a price on that. To my surprise when I arrived, the unit was correctly installed and ready to use. Mom had read the simple instructions, installed, and tested it out. I have used Alert1 for medical monitoring for my elderly mother for the past 5 years. I have absolutely no complaints and am so glad I chose them for the service. Being stubborn, my mother stopped wearing the transmitting necklace after about a year. She never gave us kids any reason, it just always sat on the table out of reach had she fallen. Well, 3 weeks ago she fell. She laid on the floor only a couple of feet away from the base unit and the necklace, for 3 days until she was found. Had she been wearing the necklace, the always polite operator could have called my sister that lives just a few miles from her, and avoided the kidney failure caused by dehydration from laying there for so long.
After a week in the hospital and 2 weeks at a Kindred for rehab, she is now going back home. I called customer service to exchange her necklace transmitter for a wrist band hoping my mom would be happier wearing that. The agent I spoke to was so polite and helpful and really cared about my situation. My mom will now have the wristband transmitter, as well as the pendant, which I will hang somewhere low to the ground if for any reason she didn't learn her lesson and not have one on her body. I am so happy that I chose Alert1. I recommend them to anybody that has a family member that could use the extra piece of mind that the medical monitoring system provides.

The web advertise it included a complete medical alert system with two-way voice, 30-day risk free trial, free spouse monitor, free shipping, a room and hallway button, an access lock box for $330. Upon receiving the box, the second alter button was not shipped and the hallway monitor was also not included. The fact the company couldn't complete and ship their best value products was a concern. How would they then respond to an emergency? I requested a refund and was told the shipping label will take 7 to 10 days. The refused to give me an authorization number over the phone.
I waited the 10 days for the label. Again, it didn't come. The company is located 112 miles north of my residence and unless they were walking the label to my home, it should not have taken 10 days or longer to get here. I called and they said they would send another one but it would take another 10 days. They would not credit my purchase even though the website stated 30-day risk free trial (one month free service). I ordered a unit online and prepaid for one year of service. The unit was ordered in my name and address but was to be used by my 90-year old mother at her home. Since we were planning to install the unit on a Saturday evening, possibly after customer service hours, I made several calls to Alert1 to ask questions and to make sure all our bases were covered. The day before the installation, someone from Alert1 contacted our mother directly to inquire about the status since the unit had not been activated. Since we had not yet discussed the unit with my mother, she was quite upset. Then, a person from Technical Support called me to discuss options for reprogramming the unit if it was needed. Several hours later, I received a call from another Technical Support person telling me that the previous information provided was incorrect and provided another response.
On Saturday evening, the installation went well and the test call was made to Alert1. When we left my mother's home that evening, the red alarm/status light was blinking, which we believed was an indicator that the batteries needed to be charged for 48 hours as outlined in the manual. Then, several hours later, the unit began to emit a 'chirp' sound periodically. This chirping sound was the most alarming to my 90-year old mother and we continually attempted to calm her over the phone.
At 8:00 a.m. EST Monday, I called Customer Support to discuss the problem only to find out that Technical Support would not come in until 9:00 a.m. The Customer Support was unable to provide any reasonable assistance beyond "it must be hooked up incorrectly" even though the unit was successfully tested. Also, my mother's phone, which is plugged into the back of the unit, was being used successfully to make and receive calls. We continued to calm our mother until 9:00 p.m., which allowed for the 48-hour battery charge time to complete.
I then called Customer Support but found out that Technical Support left for the day at 6:00 p.m. (Note: All the troubleshooting data in the book refers to calling 'Customer Service' if a problem is encountered and the hours are listed as M-F 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. EST and Saturday 9:30 to 6:00 p.m.). The Customer Service person told me that I may have to reset the battery interlock. I, therefore, requested a 'return code,' as stated in the manual, to return the unit. The person refused but, after some discussion, finally did consent to send me a UPS shipping label.
While waiting for the shipping label to arrive, another person from Alert1 called my mother inquiring about the unit which, again, upset her. My mother told the person to call me but I never received a call. And now, the wait begins. I shipped the unit back on the afternoon of August 23, it was delivered to Alert1 the next morning and now I have to wait 4 to 6 weeks for a refund. I would never recommend Alert1 because of their lack of sensitivity with the elderly and because of their poor and inconsiderate Customer and Technical Support.

We apologize for the issues you experienced with the Alert1 service and appreciate you taking time to write this extensive review.

Did Alert One put one over on you? In your article on home medical alert systems, you state that Alert One is your top choice. One of the reasons being that they are cheaper by charging only $19.95 per month, and that one can save hundreds of dollars using their service. On their web site, they refer to your article as an endorsement, and link the reader to it.
But on closer examination of their site one finds that the $19.95 is good for only three months... then the monthly charge goes to $27.95 if paid quarterly or $29.92 if paid monthly. The same as most other home alert companies charge. This is deceitful on their part, and your article makes you a part of that deceit.

Thank you for taking the time to write up your feedback on Alert1. When Consumer Affairs reviewed Alert1 a few years ago, they praised Alert1 for low prices, clear terms, friendly and helpful customer service, no contract required, and no activation or cancellation fees.
While Alert1 no longer offers a $19.95 per month service plan, we still offer service charges that are significantly lower than other leading national providers. Additionally, we do not charge cancellation, activation, installation, or other hidden fees. Our terms are still clear and stated upfront. We still do not require long term contracts.
During the past few years Alert1 has invested in infrastructure and services that improve our customer’s experience. For example, unlike some of our competitors, Alert1 stays on line with customers during an emergency until help arrives. We also have two certified and completely duplicated emergency response centers, so we can continue to provide monitoring services even if one of our centers goes down.

After reading your assessment of Alert 1 while I was in the process of researching and purchasing an alert system for my mom in Florida, I contacted that company and two others. Alert1 was unable or unwilling to give the locations of their "emergency call reception centers". They were unwilling to answer questions about their size, location, approximate servicing clients or approximate number of individuals servicing those centers. Their costs were higher than those you mentioned in your article (30%) or so but still in the same ballpark, so that was not an issue for me. Citing "security" issues, they refused to give information I mentioned above. I can see no logical reason for me, the consumer, not to be given that data. It makes me suspicious about the adequacy of the system when information is not presented openly and routinely. Obviously, I will subscribe to another service but I do feel since it was your "endorsement" that initiated my consideration of Alert1, I should convey my concern to Consumer Affairs.

We apologize that Alert1 did not provide you with clear answers when you contacted us. Alert1 is committed to being straightforward about our terms and our services to our customers, so we appreciate your feedback.
Alert1 has worked with AvantGuard Monitoring to create a network of highly reliable emergency response centers, located in Utah and Washington. The two centers are full duplicates of each other, so if one center goes offline, the other center still provides emergency coverage.
