In the past 3 months, USPS has (a) erroneously failed to deliver a package to me, with a false claim of "insufficient address". When I tried to ascertain how the address was allegedly "insufficient", USPS did a cover-up and falsely claimed they didn't have a scan of the package, showing my address. (b) Lost a package addressed to me; [c] lost a check for $177, addressed to me.

I called the so-called "customer service supervisor" to inquire about my missing check. She **hung up on me**, with no provocation; (d) I filed a complaint on usps.com about that "customer service supervisor," and received a boilerplate reply from the same supervisor, claiming, "We expect our employees to perform their duties in a manner which is both courteous and professional....providing excellent customer service is our goal...Please be assured that appropriate action has been taken to address the issue." (I can just picture this so-called supervisor spanking herself for her rude behavior!)

I am absolutely DONE with USPS. I sent a package to my son. USPS may show it as “delivered,” but it was NOT delivered to my son. The mail carrier put it in the WRONG mailbox. Apparently, USPS considers that a successful delivery. Then I sent another package to my son at his new address, and that package didn’t make it either. I filed a claim expecting USPS to take responsibility, investigate what happened, and make it right. Instead, THEY DENIED THE CLAIM. So let me understand this: I pay USPS to deliver a package to a specific person at a specific address. They fail to properly deliver it, the package disappears, and then they deny the claim? What exactly am I paying for? Two packages. Two delivery problems. And when a customer asks USPS to stand behind the service they were paid to provide, the answer is essentially, “Too bad.”

USPS customer service and accountability are absolutely terrible. I have lost all confidence in them. From now on, I will gladly PAY MORE to use UPS, FedEx, or another carrier before trusting another important package to USPS. USPS needs to do better. “Delivered” means delivered to the CORRECT ADDRESS—not wherever the carrier happens to leave the package. I’m finished with this shitty service.

Absolute trash service for packages. Estimated delivery dates mean nothing to them. Packages that are sent out from nearby addresses end up being sent 1000 miles away and then coming back, packages sit still for a week at certain facilities without updates. Incompetent overpaid workers collecting paychecks, that is all. Whoever is in charge should start hiring people that care (just a little at least), instead they hire workers that rather be on their cell phones checking messages and or making private calls.

Regarding SYRACUSE and Rochester NY distribution centers. I am near Ithaca NY. Ever since they started routing almost all our packages through here, more than 50% end up being misdirected. That's an absurd number of packages not being properly routed. I've seen stuff go all the way to Florida, the west coast and more before eventually getting to me WAY late. Today a package in Syracuse yesterday and was scheduled for delivery today went to Albany! The attempts to streamline service and save money has failed. Several of these were important and temperature sensitive medications that USPS ended up paying for since they were garbage by the time they got to us. Everyone in our general area from Ithaca to Binghamton and more are complaining of the same thing. I worked for USPS. I thought it was a mess 15 years ago but it is far worse now!

I mailed a Priority Mail package with perishable items (peaches and cherries) from Portland, OR, to White Plains, NY, on July 27. Three days after the scheduled delivery date, the tracking still showed the package sitting in Portland. When I visited the Post Office, I was told it had been picked up the same day, but they could not provide any tracking updates. I was given a phone number, called three times, and never received a response. then contacted the White Plains Post Office, where I was told the package never arrived. I submitted a claim as advised, but it was denied with no explanation. This experience involved conflicting information, a lack of transparency in tracking, no follow‑up, and the loss of perishable goods. I am requesting clarification on what happened to the package and why my claim was denied without any reason.

It took 10 days to deliver a Priority Mail item sent from a USPS Post Office in Connecticut the morning of 7/30/2026. It finally arrived at a PO Box in Ohio on 8/8/2026. The USPS Tracking indicated that the item arrived at the Cincinnati, OH Distribution Center on 8/3/2026. When the status did not change, a Service Request was opened on 8/5. The USPS Customer Care Center was unable to provide an update on the Service Request, saying only that "they're working on it and someone will contact you soon." This was an important item. I suggest that if you have something of value, do not use the USPS and instead go with a private service who takes their mission seriously.

I ship and receive packages often being a member of a club of collectors. Cost is the main factor determining USPS use, since the items shipped are heavy and frequently travel good distances. The flat rate priority mail box is mainly used for this purpose. It's extremely rare for a box to make the trip in 3 days. This trend seems to be worsening with time. Boxes commonly take a week or longer in transit, if not get lost, altogether. Pathetic is a word that describes my feelings.

My post office is refusing to deliver any large packages and they bulk at delivering even medium size packages, like a tool or a crock pot. If it doesn't fit in the mailbox, they don't want to deliver it. I contacted USPS and initiated an investigation and all they did was send it to the local postmaster who called me up and told me they weren't going to deliver my large packages. I'm now forced to purchase any larger items (cat food, quilts, tools, etc.) at Walmart instead. It's a 28 mile round trip to go to the post office to pick up packages, and some do not fit in my car, and it is at least $4.79 a gallon of gas for every trip I make. I'm already paying for the delivery. USPS is a failure.

Mind you, the next day FedEx delivered a package photographed on my deck right below the house numbers. Unbelievable right? It is if it’s USPS. It’s either complete laziness or just absolutely no care for their customers. Don’t even try to use their customer service, they had it shipped back to the sender within 15 hours so it might not be laziness. They work great if the goal is to screw someone over.

Instead of listening or trying to resolve legitimate issues, many representatives seem to simply repeat the same scripted responses over and over in a dismissive, uncaring tone. It often feels like they have no interest in understanding the situation or taking ownership of the problem. Rather than providing real assistance, they pass customers around, avoid accountability, and leave people feeling unheard and helpless. When you're already dealing with a stressful issue, being met with indifference and robotic responses only makes the experience worse.

Honestly, the United States Postal Service is one of the most frustrating, inconsistent, and downright useless shipping services I’ve ever dealt with. Every single time I order something and it gets handed off to USPS, it turns into a complete shitshow. Tracking barely updates, packages sit in limbo for days with no explanation, and delivery dates might as well be random guesses because they’re almost never right. You pay for shipping expecting at least basic reliability, and instead it feels like your package just disappears into a black hole for a week before randomly showing up whenever they feel like it.

It’s honestly ridiculous how bad the consistency is. One job: move a package from point A to point B without turning it into a mystery novel. Somehow that’s still too much to ask. If you actually care about getting your stuff on time and without stress, I’d seriously recommend avoiding USPS whenever possible, because every experience with them just ends up being a headache and a waste of time.

Refusal to scan end-of-day acceptance forms, leaving packages without proof of acceptance.
Packages sitting for several days before showing any movement in the USPS network.

I know that this is not the USPS's fault but there have been many bad reports about the Shreveport distribution Center that USPS uses. This gives the USPS a bad name. Something needs to be done about this distribution Center.

If Atlanta Georgia's distribution center can get packages out in a timely manner, then what the heck is wrong with Shreveport LA's distribution Center. The route process is not good. USPS author review by ConsumerAffairs Research Team

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is the official and original postal service for the United States. Ever since Benjamin Franklin was appointed as the first postmaster general in 1775, USPS has been delivering mail to people across the country. Today, USPS has expanded its services to also include international shipping, package shipping and priority mail.

      • Easy to use: Anyone can send mail through USPS by using their home mailbox or dropping their mail off at any post office in the United States. Consumers and businesses can also arrange for package pickup online, making it easy to mail packages without leaving home.

      • Mail options: USPS offers several mailing options so consumers can find a shipping timeframe and cost that meets their needs. Priority Express fees start at $22.95, and shipping runs seven days a week, so packages will be delivered on weekends. First class mail is available to send items weighing up to 13 ounces. Stamps cost only 47 cents, and your parcel will be delivered within one to three business days.

      • Precious Cargo Box: Consumers who are sending fragile items can purchase a Priority Mail Precious Cargo Box. These boxes ship for a flat rate and include $50 worth of insurance. They include polyethylene foam dots or inserts that prevent items from moving during transport. Precious Cargo Boxes are available in three sizes.

      • Shipping insurance: Consumers and businesses can purchase insurance to cover the cost of their package up to $5,000 for standard mail in the event of damage or destruction. Most priority mail shipments automatically come with $100 worth of insurance, and more can be added on for an upcharge.

      • Military and diplomatic mail: Send packages to your loved one who is in the military for the price of domestic shipping, even if they are overseas. Save an additional two dollars when you use a large flat rate box.
