At the end of my time this past year when my fixed rate was going to be up Santanna sent me a letter and I never received a letter and that’s when I happened to check and see that the rate had jumped up. I called and they told me that was the reason why it jumped up. Customer service was very helpful. Now I’m back on fixed rate, on a cheaper rate. Thank you for the low rate and I think I’m good on a year for that.

    Thanks for your vote!

I chose Santanna Energy because of the price. I called them last month about my gas bill and they lowered the price. I had Verde for my electric and they upped the price so I went with Santanna on the electric, too, just last week. The customer service people were very helpful and nice. They made everything clear so I was very happy with them.

Santanna was cheaper over another energy service so I signed up. I've called them periodically the last year or so just to check on the term increases and lower prices because something happened last year -- I didn't know that my contract had expired. That's about the only negative thing I can say about them. They didn't call to tell me that my contract had expired, and my bill went up crazy high. I was paying like $39 cents a therm in my contract and it went up to $2-something. So for three months, I was paying out of my pension because I'm retired. I've been retired for seven years so my income is so fixed, it's ridiculous. So that put a strain on me; I had to eliminate something just to pay my bill.

I try to pay all my bills, which I did; it wasn't like I had a balance. But the fact is that I had to pay $200-something the worst month, and $190-something, then back down to $170-something before I got it under control, because I called in to find out what was wrong. Their rep said, "Your contract was over." I said, "Why didn't you guys call me?" And she said, "Well, it's not our responsibility to call you and let you know when your contract is up." But other than that, I'm cool with them. I've always recommended them. They're a helpful company.

I just received another letter from Santanna telling me to call or my gas rate would just go back and the contract was up and to lock it in again. Otherwise, it would just go to the market price or the current rate. I phoned the number and we locked it in again. Then they sent the letter to follow-up and gave me some helpful tips. I know years ago when this all started when I had this option to do it I don't know who I was with but somehow it evolved to be Santanna. The sales rep said I could call them and if it's lower they could change it and lock it in at a lower rate if I wanted to call once a month. She was looking out for my best interest. It has been pleasant, productive and complete.

We chose Santanna strictly because it was economical. They were cheaper and had the best price. My wife has talked numerous times to reps there regarding the service and the cost of gas. Someone told her that if she called at the first of the month, she can check and see if it's lower for that month and we can switch it. They told her that we can break the contract and go with the lower price, so we have more control over how much we have to pay for the gas. In fact when she called on the 2nd or 3rd of March, the rep said that they had changed it but she should call at the middle of March and the rep told her that he thinks it was going to go down.

I was tired of paying the high rates of Nicor and ComEd which made me look into Santanna Energy. The enrollment was easy with only a few questions. The employees were very friendly, helpful, respectful and transparent with regards to their rates. They treat customers well, make them feel important and listen to their complaints. If I overpay my account and don't consume that amount of electricity or gas, they mail me a check which ComEd doesn't do. For the several years I have been with them, I have nothing but fantastic experiences. I tell everybody that I talk to what a nice company they are. Unless the rates go sky high then I would look for somebody else but as of this moment, I'm very happy and impressed with them.

I canceled my natural gas when I moved. They sent me an exorbitant final bill which I paid. I received a form letter from Santanna dated November 3, 2014 stating I was overcharged $ 337.93. I spent almost three months trying to get my money back from them. They used every stalling tactic and excuse not to pay me. They said they did not know my address, the amount was being verified, and on and on.

I called about eight times, and every time they said they would call me back that day or the next. They did not return any calls. It seems to me that overcharging, and then making it next to impossible to get your money back is their norm. If I paid late, I would get charged a penalty. They want you to give up trying. Finally, they said they sent a check on January 16, 2015. It never came until January 28. It was meter stamped by them a week after they said they sent it. I will never deal with Santanna again.

I signed up for Santanna last summer. I found my last couple of electricity bills had jumped (Dec/Jan of 2014/2015). Usually I just pay automatically but the jump caught my attention given that natural gas and oil are at record lows, and my bill was much higher than past years. What I found is that Santanna charges a 7.99 admin fee on top of a rate which is currently 0.08990 per kWH. This is higher than ComEd (0.07572) with an extra admin fee! The point of these alternatives is supposed to be to save consumer's money, not charge us more. I don't know if they are better with business customers, but as a residential customer, my view is RUN don't WALK from this company.

But in this particular case, Rebecca got right to the point, gave me a fixed rate, explained it well, and I went and signed up, which I believe will go in effect approximately the middle of March. One of the primary reasons why I also chose Santanna Energy’s services was because they dropped their monthly management fee from $4.99 to $3.99 or at least that's what I was led to believe.

I had no problems with Santanna Energy. There was an advertisement about them in my mailbox and I was looking for a better rate for my heat bill. I don't know that much about it and got their ad first. I've never shopped around for anything else, so I don't know if there are others out there. Enrolling with Santanna was very easy. They were very helpful and attentive, and answered my questions that I had at the time. It worked out good. I appreciated the time and they followed through.

Their customer service reps made it easy to understand the program and they allowed me to actually talk to other suppliers before making a final decision. I chose them because of their rate. There have been a couple of times where I've had questions and had to call, and they always have someone answer the phone. You don’t get put on all kinds of extensions to get where you want to go. I looked into their gas service because the rates are a little less given the amount of fuel that we burn in the winter time - to save me some money. It was easy enrolling. I didn't have any problems with their people, but I've had with their corporate. When my one contract ran out, with computers and all that paperwork, why does it take two months to get the new contract through? They put you in this stupid package which charges an extra 20 cents per cubic feet of gas. One contract to the next, it should just roll over and start right there, but no. I told that woman "Oh, looks like I get the weenie" but she didn't say nothing.

Way back when they deregulated the electricity or the heat so that you could buy your own from a private company, there was a mailing from the gas company saying that there were choices available. One of them was Santanna. I think at that time, I compared the ones that were on the flyer and Santanna was the cheapest and they offered the option of buying gas in the summer and then you can use it in the winter. So that seemed like a good idea to me. I've been a customer of Santanna for quite a while now. My experience with them was pretty typical. You had to record your affirmation, saying you wanted to switch companies, and I'd say it was pretty smooth, pretty typical of what I've experienced in other places. I was overall satisfied with them.

I just got my first bill from Santanna Energy and so far I'm trying to figure out the bill. I've also got a million and one things, trying to get used to the level of oxygen I'm on. They just increased my oxygen in a different way I take it. But I've got my wings clipped. I can't go anywhere. I was very happy with that because you get all these phone calls. Apparently, there's different times of the year where you should call in for your electric. I also got a little better rate. But the bad part about it is they charge $10 a month if you switch them. I didn't realize I got into it. But it's there and I'm not gonna pay $10 a month to get out of it.

They brought the rate down to 74, because everything else I was looking at -- the point and time where I signed in was up to 10 and 11 on electric. And I use so much electric, I keep getting from Tom Wells Edison that I use three times what my neighbors use, but when you're on oxygen and you're on this concentrator, it's what you use. And you've got to run that thing 24/7.

But I'm happy with the way I signed up and their staff were very helpful. Whoever I talked to about Santanna, they had called me and the rate was quite a bit higher. I was just shopping around and I called back because I got a better rate. The man told me he could give me a better rate, and he gave me that 515 or something so I was very pleased with that, that he was on the ball and changed me to the proper rate before I even went into it. I don't know what's going to happen with these oil prices down with it, whether that's gonna affect the gas or not but overall, I'm very happy with Santanna. I would recommend it.

Actually I first learned about Santanna Energy through one of my buddies, but you know how it is sometimes you hear about a new thing and you just got to check it out first so I called them just to make sure it was legitimate or I wasn’t getting scammed. And they’re pretty friendly, sounds like they have a young face and customer service is also available in Spanish so that was great. Hello David,

We are sorry to hear that you had the same experience as others with the increase in prices in February and March of 2014 as this was an unfortunate situation. We also apologize if customer service, or any other representatives were rude as this is not the standard of our company. To explain the raise in prices as we have to many others, energy prices were extremely volatile in early 2014, as reported by numerous media outlets in the Midwest and nationally. Due to the severe weather conditions, the demand for gas was high, which impacted the market price of natural gas. The extreme cold winter, depletion of storage, and limitations on interstate pipeline capacity impacted the natural gas supply during this highest demand period, resulting in the higher prices that you experienced. Please contact our Customer Service Center at (800) 764-4427 or send us an email at consumeraffairs@ses4energy.com, and we will be more than willing to answer any questions you may have regarding our company or your account. Upon calling them, they tried to tell me that they adjusted their prices because they hadn't purchased "enough" gas to supply customers and the temp's were worst than they had predicted. That's funny, because if you look up the temperature averages, for the last 10 years... they only varied by 2 degrees...LOWER!! I can't believe how our recent gas bill went too high. Feb bill was about $290, while March bill went around $481 even though we are not in our home Monday thru Fri and are only there on weekends and not using much gas at all. Just a horrible company. They are charging us at such a high rate. I am going to disconnect the service with them ASAP and will never go back to them. I am also going to complain about them to the BBB, so some legal action can be taken against them. Very upset at this time....

A lot of my experience with Santanna involved all the issues other people brought up, but this is one issue that I haven't seen addressed. Not only did my rates skyrocket within a two month period but I started getting non-stop phone calls wanting the full payment ($600+) within a month of receiving that bill. They would call up to four times a day, sometimes leaving messages and sometimes not. I would call back, tell them about the payment I had just made to Nicor and they would leave me alone for a week and then start the calling all over again! I never missed a payment, just not the full amount! It was definitely harassment and they will be losing me as a customer!

They also sent two disconnect letters during the last two months. The large bill came at the end of Feb. I made a payment every month to Nicor. It has not even been three months since the initial large bill and they have threatened to disconnect twice during that time and the endless phone harassment. I ended up sending a check from a credit card directly to Santanna Energy for the full amount I owed them. I will keep sending Nicor my regular payment and change my energy provider.

Same story as others posted. Thought I was on a fixed rate - called to find out what happened and was told I was sent a letter a year and a half ago telling me I was switching to market rates unless I replied within 30 days. No recollection of receiving the letter. Asked why they did not send out annually - they said they didn't have to. I asked why the market rate shot so high and the claim was due to the excessively cold winter. After getting off the call, I checked Consumers Energy's rates and they are less than 1/3 of what I was billed this last month. This company has no conscience and horrible customer service. I'm done with them.

In 2011, I signed a contract with a door to door salesman for a 12 month fixed price gas bill through Santana Energy Services. I was going to still get my bill from Consumers Energy. I gave a verbal agreement with someone from their company over the phone. I think I received some sort of welcome packet after signing up, but then never received anything else. Apparently in Sept. 2012 I was sent something saying my 12 months was coming to an end (I never received anything) at which time Santana would charge me free market prices if I didn't call and sign up for another 12 months fixed rate. I did not know for the last 18 months that I was still contracted with Santana or that I was paying whatever they wanted to charge me.

March of 2014 I received a bill for $290.35. I live in a two bedroom single story home and turn the heat to 60 during the day. When I called Santana 4-7-14 I was put on hold for 10 minutes and then when I asked why I was paying 16.11 dollars per metered hour the customer service representative repeated over and over that I signed a contract, that I was sent something in the mail once 18 months ago and tried to explain free market. I asked for a manager several times while he continued to explain the same things over and over. After insisting on speaking with a manager I then was connected with a Denise and she gave me the same explanation. I told her I thought this was a scam and that reputable businesses don't need to have door to door salesman.

She explained that there are several ways people sign up with her company: telemarketing, online and door to door. I at this time was very upset and I let her know by saying this was a crappy business. I told her I didn't think that she cared, and I could tell that she received these types of calls daily. She then told me that I wasn't being professional and that I signed the contract. I told her I wanted to be off their service in which she told me she would start the cancellation process which can take up to two billing cycles. I feel very taken advantage of and am looking for some help.

They lure into converting to their company by offering a low rate. That rate expires approximately 11 months later. At that time you can expect your gas bill to triple. Our gas bill went to 470.00 per month for a residence that was approximately 1500 square feet. When I called them they offered another "low" rate, temporary of course, then said "it may take 60 days to switch so don't expect your bill to go down anytime soon." We have spent 1,000 in two month on our gas bill and this is at the "senior rate".

Santanna used "stability of rates" as the reason to choose their service. When I noticed I had paid more for their rates than Nicor charged for past 2 years, I told them I wanted to stop their service. Their rates then increased to 2.35 times the rate that Nicor charged for same period. This does not match with the "sales pitch" given originally that their service would stabilize rates. Since these changes occurred in coldest months, the difference was hundreds of dollars.

I was beyond shock when I received my last billing and discovered the outrageous increase in cost. $16.32/mcf. In checking with other possible suppliers, nobody even comes close to what you charge, nobody! It appears to be a "bait and switch" operation. You tell everybody that you sent out letters to inform everybody of the increase, are you crazy!! Nobody would agree to that. Never did I receive a letter and I doubt very much anybody else did. Do the right thing, make this right.

    Hello Tim,

We are sorry to hear about your experience with us during the February and March months of 2014. To help explain the increase in prices as we have done to many others, energy prices were extremely volatile in early 2014, as reported by numerous media outlets in the Midwest and nationally. Due to the severe weather conditions, the demand for gas was high, which impacted the market price of natural gas. The extreme cold winter, depletion of storage, and limitations on interstate pipeline capacity impacted the natural gas supply during this highest demand period, resulting in higher prices. Santanna apologizes for any misunderstanding that this might have caused. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact our Customer Service Center at (800) 764-4427 or send us an email at consumeraffairs@ses4energy.com, we would be more than willing to help with this issue and any others you may have. This winter was extremely cold in Michigan, so our gas bill was pretty high, around $200, which I didn't question because we don't have the greatest insulation and I like the house very warm. I went to pay my bill yesterday and saw that it was $519! This is outrageous! Upon reviewing my bill and those previous, I saw that Santanna had nearly quadrupled the cost of gas! How can they morally do this? When I called to question it, they refused to do anything about it, so my husband called and spoke with a supervisor. He was told that they are not going to do anything for anyone who has this problem. We are on a month to month plan with a variable rate which I didn't realize until now. I am floored and have never heard of a company doing this and getting away with it. And the attitudes of the people we spoke with were awful as well. Needless to say we are changing carriers, but may have to deal with this crappy service until the new service company takes over. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!

I received a letter today from Santanna which states that my cancellation would be done in 1 to 2 billing cycles. Odd part is they couldn't provide proof that I signed up with them EVER. I called my own energy provider and explained everything and she cancelled Santanna while I was on the phone. Don't let them lead you to believe that you have no choice. You don't have to wait it out.....call your original company and get them cancelled. The Consumers representative also advised that NEVER show Santanna an energy bill because all they need is a POD number from it without your signature or acceptance. Once they have that they switch you and lie about it afterwards. Anyways....get them cancelled asap. They lost 8 million (3.3 mill to residents) in a 2005 lawsuit in Illinois. Didn't learn their lesson I guess.

I shocked to see my gas bill this month. I called Santanna and was told that because my contract rate had expired I was being charged their variable rate. It is over twice what I was paying and what I have found other providers are charging. I cancelled with Santanna but was told it could take one to two billing cycles before the change takes place. This is happening during the highest usage months of the year. I did call the Michigan Public Service Commission and after some discussion, they did file my complaint and said someone would look into it.

After receiving a telemarketing contact about one year ago, I decided to sign up for gas purchase from Santanna Energy. No problem the first year, but as many others experienced my rates quadrupled for March 2014. I was informed by a very helpful Santanna contact that my rates went up because of demand due to weather in the 4 states that Santanna supply gas to, including Michigan. I was placed from the special sign-up rate to the individual rate and was not informed of the cost increase beforehand, Michigan Consumer Energy rate is capped below $% and review of my gas bills prove this over the last 12 months. This was a rip-off by Santanna. Fortunately I was able to cancel service after completion of the billing cycle. (The person I talked to on the phone quoted this months rate at $5.90). I relearned a lesson that I already knew; hang up on all telemarketers.

There was a lawsuit filed against Santana Energy in 2006 in state of Illinois for defrauding customers. Company filed bankruptcy to get out of it but somehow managed to move on to work in Michigan after paying of fines and penalty and refund to its customers. Other thing you all can do is switch over back to your original company under someone else's name in your household and you won't have to deal with Santana if you are not in contract with them and they are playing with you to surrender you back to your original gas company. It is true Santana has been telling their customers that they will turn off the service in seven days but they keep going on and on for two billing cycles. If this is happening to you, file a report with Michigan Attorney General like others did in Illinois in 2006. Together you all can stop this company from scamming people. I hope this helps.

On 18 February when I saw my gas bill for $330, I called Santanna to find out why my rate was so high. I was told that I was on market rate for the past 2 years. They said they sent me a letter after my initial 12 months informing I will go to market rate. The lady said that the market rate for my last bill was $5.99 ... strike 1. I do not recall seeing that letter, so to move forward, I asked what can be done and she said they will fix my rate at $4.59 and it will go into effect next cycle. My billing period is from 21st of the month to the 21st of the next month. So next bill for Feb came at $298 and according to the way I understood from the lady that invoice should have been my next cycle. I called her on the 18th and the closing was 21st. SO the billing cycle was closed AFTER I called. So that bill was still under the market rate ... strike 2 ... She prepped me and I expected that bill to be high .... and it was. Now in March I received a 3rd bill for a total of $550 and when I called they said that my rate was still at market rate $16.32 for March ... strike 3. I called again and the person on the phone said that I used the gas and they cannot do anything for me. And he added that the new rate will go into effect next cycle ... when does that begin? He said next month !!!

In other words WE ARE AT THEIR MERCY .... and they can interpret the end of any billing cycle the way they want to .. TO THEIR ADVANTAGE. They were not clear with dates when they sold me their product. Their "Billing cycle" is not clear and not defined. Today when I called, the man told me that the billing cycle is from the 1st of the month till 30th of the month. So when I asked him, "Why is my reading date and bill dates different?", He was unable to answer me clearly, and said that any changes to the billing cycle may last 2-3 months. He said they send the rates to Consumer Energy at the end of the month and he does not know when these are processed by Consumer Energy. I still have to pay triple my gas bill. I feel duped and I feel they took advantage of me. I trusted them. Can anyone advise me what to do?

In 2011, I got a sales call to switch from consumers to Santanna Energy to save on my gas bill. The sales rep gave me a fixed rate for one year and then said I would be on a variable rate that would never go 10 percent above whatever consumers energy was charging plus many other promises that proved to be untrue. I signed up and have not had a fixed rate for two years.

According to Santana, they sent me a letter in Feb of 2014, stating that I was on a variable rate and that I needed to call them to be placed on a fixed. Never got that letter and even more interesting is that I didn't get one for 2012 or 2013 after my 2011 to 2012 fixed rate was up. So just like every other person on this page in March my bill tripled to $770. We called Santana to fix the problem. I was told they would not be adjusting the bill. I asked to hear the recording of when I switched and they played it for me. Of course all the promises and agreements from the sales rep were not available. Only the parts where I said my name, address, account number and yes.

I told the rep from Santana that the sales rep had promised certain conditions (even on a variable rate) to me and asked to hear the rest of the recording. But no go. Santana told me that my rate was competitive with the market. I asked if I was on a fixed rate with them what would it be today. I was told $5.90. So I am being charged $16.23 but the competitive market rate is $5.90? By the way Consumer is a buck less than that.

I also called consumers and they said they were just a middle man and could do nothing. I believe this is a cop-out and if a company is cheating and lying to customers then a big company like Consumers Energy has the ability to call, or notify some agency about fraud. After all I am trusting Consumers Energy with my credit card and banking information they should have and minimal responsibility to protect even as a middle man.

But they said by law they have to be neutral and if a company is acting in bad faith, lying to customers and cheating them, then all they can do is collect or shut of the gas. So I call Michigan Public Service Commission at 1800-292-9555 and ask for help. The rep is very rude and states that I signed up for a variable rate. She does not even want to look into it. I told her that that sales rep promised certain standards of a variable rate that were not met. Finally she agreed to only listen to the recording which of course will offer no help. I left my contact info with a manager of Santana in the hopes that this can be fixed.

    Hello Casey,

We are sorry to hear about your experience and the terms that were stated when you signed up. This is not representative of how Santanna operates and we would certainly like to get more information from you on this issue. To explain the increase in rates during February and March, energy prices were extremely volatile in early 2014, as reported by numerous media outlets in the Midwest and nationally. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact our Customer Service Center at (800) 764-4427 or send us an email at consumeraffairs@ses4energy.com, we would be more than willing to help with your problem. Santanna has raised our gas rate from $5.99/Mcf in January to $7.6/Mcf in February to $16.32/Mcf in March; this is the one I noticed. When I called their customer service, they (Angela) said Santanna uses the Market Price to determine what they charge their customers. I researched this and there may have been an increase in the true Market Price (~25%) but it did not almost triple in two months or more than double in one month.

They would not offer any type of substantiation or documentation to justify their price. I asked how they can do this without any notice, they said they sent me a letter when my fixed rate ended (after one year). I did not receive this letter so I asked them to email it to me, which they did. After looking at the emailed letter, I am certain I did not receive it. I would not have thought it was "junk mail" like they suggested I did.

After about three days of trying to contact a Supervisor, I had a conversation with one this afternoon, Martha **. She was absolutely no help. She offered nothing in terms of substantiation for their pricing or documentation that breaks down their rates. DO NOT BELIEVE they base their price on the Market Price, they do not!

I called Santanna again and cancelled my service with them - immediately. My next call on Monday 8:30 am will be to the Michigan Public Service Commission, 800-292-9555. Has anyone filed a formal complaint with the State of Michigan Attorneys General Office? I am also planning to call them and the BBB. I can't believe that a formal investigation has not been initiated regarding Santanna's unsubstantiated rate increase. Please pass this message on to never trust Santana Energy and to cancel your service with them. Gas is just not that high, and they are very very greedy and they are liars!

Santana Energy tells me they contacted me Aug of 2011 and I accepted a contract for lower gases prices with them, and locked in for 1 year. I am not doubting that I did that. However, they said they recently sent me a letter and said I was not on a contract and the charges would go up. I did not receive a letter. I also did not realize that I still had Santanna as a third party provider. My bill for February was 184.00 (charging .659 pcf) and now my March bill is $281.03 (charging 1.21 pcf). I contacted Santanna, they informed me I was not on a contract and winter has been hard everywhere. Yet when I call DTE they are charging .471 pcf. I have asked to cancel, they finally sent a letter but won't release me for a month, so I will have another month of the outrageous charges. They are rude and each person tells you a different answer, talking with supervisor got me nowhere. I have called them at least 12 times this week. This is outrageous and gouging. I am finding that no one can help me. How can this company gouge all of us, and there is nothing we can do?

I was very pleased with her service to my account. She was knowledgeable, very courteous (which is exceptionally rare these days in my experience) and helpful. She was able to lower my rate, and although it was not as low as another offer from a different provider I had received, I opted to stay with Santanna for another 12 month period.

The choice to stay with Santanna rather than switch to another, lower priced company was due in part to the exceptional customer service experiences I have had with this firm, and in particular with Ms. **. In fact, I wrote to the representative's superiors to let them know how well Ms. ** took care of me. I look forward to a long and exceptionally satisfactory relationship with Santanna and encourage anyone looking to keep their gas rates lower, without the hassle I've experienced with Consumers Energy and other natural gas providers to work with Santanna. I received my bill for services for January to February and my bill went from 419 to 1032. I called to find out what was going on and find that the price per therm went to .7644 and they read my gas meter finally and are charging me March prices for January and February usage. On top of it, they are approximately .20 higher than any competitor in the area. Charging March pricing for gas used in January and February and then not reading the meter for two months so that they can charge a higher amount is unethical. I called Santanna and of course, they said that gas prices have gone up for everyone. I asked why they are so much more than any of their competitors for the same time frame and they refused to answer. They just kept talking about how gas has increased in price. Yes, gas has increased, we all know this, however they are .20 higher than the closest competitor and more than that for others.

They will not answer why they are more expensive and why they aren't even close to their competitors for the same time period. They just keep harping on how gas is more expensive. I filed a complaint with the Illinois Commerce Commission about this also and hope they will look into this. They also talked bad about one of their competitors saying they are cheaper because they have a class action lawsuit against them. Is that what it takes to lower their prices so they are competitive with other companies?

I immediately contacted Santanna and they basically said they could do nothing for us, we used the gas, it was our fault for not contacting them to lock in another lower rate.

They said they sent us a letter about our contract being up on 1/2/14, but we never received any letter. Will from Santanna is who I spoke with and he was quite rude and was very snippy with me. I told him he had no reason to be that way. I asked how they could triple the price; he said it was the way the gas prices fluctuate. I also asked how they could charge so much when other companies are right around $5. He said it is all on supply and demand with it being so cold that the price has gone up.

I immediately cancelled with them after a 30 minute phone call. I called Consumers Energy and their price is $4.71 per unit. I asked how Santanna could be charging me this much. She could not answer that but told me to contact Michigan Public service committee. I do not think this is legal. There has to be a regulation on how much they can charge. Will at Santanna also tried to give me some lies about how Consumers Energy will be charging people during the summer for gas they are not using to make up for what they are losing during the winter months.

They cannot charge for something people are not using. I called back today to talk with a manager (Matt). He was as unhelpful as the other guy. Basically, it was our problem and we can make payments. There should be something done to this company for scamming people. There was never a letter or phone calls made to let them know their contract period is up. Now hard working people have to pay high bills just so Santanna can get rich. I know I cannot afford this bill. I hope that there is something being done to stop this company from doing this.

    Hello Chris,

We are sorry to hear about your experience with us and we would like to explain what caused the increase in prices, as well as help you with any ongoing issues going forward. To explain what happened here, energy prices were extremely volatile in early 2014, as reported by numerous media outlets in the Midwest and nationally. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact our Customer Service Center at (800) 764-4427 or send us an email at consumeraffairs@ses4energy.com, we would be more than willing to help with any issues you may have. I contacted Santanna on 12/17/13 to secure the rate after receiving a letter they sent. They didn't secure the rate and tell me now that I called just to get the rate - seriously, why would I do that? Basically the rep I spoke to tonight told me it was my fault and there was nothing they could do. I have left messages for a team lead the last 3 days and have yet to have my call returned. No customer service from Santanna and their motto seems to be that the customer is wrong! I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's office tomorrow.

When I spoke with one of their Representatives & then his Supervisors, I was told the increase was due to the fact that it was a month-to-month rate. According to them, I didn't sign the letter they had sent out 11 months after I had switched to Santanna Energy which was back in December of 2011 that would have locked me in @ a fixed rate. This NEVER happened, No letter was ever received & who in their right mind wouldn't have addressed a letter like that!!! Upon dissecting their bill Santanna Energy Co.'s name was on the bottom of the bill. My daughter prior to this had NEVER heard if this company. Apparently one evening a rep came to her door and talked to her roommate asking to see their Consumers energy bill, telling her that they could provide lower rates! Her roommate told the rep they were not interested.

So, today she called Santanna Energy Co and informed them that NOTHING was signed, and without their knowledge are being charged for their services!!! Also, my daughter contacted Consumers Energy and was informed that there's nothing they can do about this! My daughter, her roommate and I are raving mad! How can Santanna Energy Co. do this!! It is illegal to do this without written consent! Tomorrow, I am calling this scamming company myself. Then I am going to file a report with the BBB and Consumer Affairs. My daughter is a hard working young woman and going to college as well. This is an outrage, to say the least!

Last month, they charged $0.65 and this month the rate has gone to $1.20. Even though I did everything to reduce gas consumption, this month bill is $400/= versus $322 last month. I called the company and they were not helpful at all.

I asked them to cancel my service immediately, however, I was told that it take about a month to transfer. Worst utility company I ever had to deal with. I told DTE energy that I will not pay SANTANNA energy charges of the bill until a solution is given. Filed a complaint with Michigan public services commission too.

March 8, 2014, we received our bill for the month of February, one of the coldest months in history, to find that Santanna had raised the gas price from $7.60 to $16.32. They stated they had sent us a letter of warning in the mail. When I called the Santanna representative, Veronica answered. She said she was having several calls and that her supervisor, Denise was too busy to talk with me. Veronica stated, "It may be a week before she can get back to you."

I asked Veronica how she planned on keeping customers if she was not willing to work with them and give a fair price for gas. She stated that she could not help me. I asked her if I wanted to stay with her company what price would I pay? She said I would pay $5.90 per MCF, however, it would not begin until March 28th, at our next meter reading. She also stated if I cancelled that, it could take 45 to 60 days before I could actually switch to a new provider.

My bill increased over $700 dollars from this increase they made. It was done at the perfect time for them to make a killing! Not only are they getting a $700 bonus from me, but it may end up that they get this amount for another two months, because it can take that long just to get a cancellation! Veronica seemed happy to hear that I was cancelling. It was like the company was preparing to close and wanted to make a load of money before doing so.

They were not interested in keeping me as a customer. I find it ironic, that they chose to do this at the coldest months of the year. I am not finished with this company. I plan on talking to my attorney and filing a complaint with the Michigan Public Service Commission. This is an evil and corrupt gas supplier. I would not recommend using this company.

I had the misfortune of interacting and exchanging words with one of Santanna's field representatives this evening. She was slovenly in her appearance (skin-tight jeans, tight t-shirt, and flip-flops), and unprofessional in both her conduct and demeanor (aggressive body language, abrasive in conversation, and smoking like a chimney). She intruded in a community matter that was none of her concern. When she was advised of this, she replied that anything she decided was her concern, was her concern. (Of course, she was not eloquent in her diatribe, exhibited a level of ignorance, and did not display any level of professionalism or decorum in this exchange.)

Getting frustrated with her intrusion and persistence to argue the matter, I asked her if her supervisor was in the area, and she informed me that she was the supervisor. I told her that I found that hard to believe, for I had (supposedly) spoken with the regional manager earlier this evening. She told me (sorry, I cannot share her name for she did not have her identification badge visible, but she was wearing a Santanna t-shirt) that they both were supervisors. I told her that I found that hard to believe; yet, nonetheless, I told her that if she didn't back off, I would call the police. She, in turn, told me that she wasn't afraid of the police.

It is unfortunate that Santanna has individuals like this representing them and their services/products. If this is any indication of the sort of service that Santanna accepts from its employees, then this certainly is a company I would not recommend to anyone, and will never personally do business with.

A rep from Santanna Energy came to my late Saturday afternoon acting as if he was from DTE Energy. He was wearing very old dirty looking clothes and used swear words all throughout his whole speech he gave me. He'd start talking to me about my kids or something else he knew I'd get distracted by, then would randomly go back to "Okay, now these people are going to call you real quick" and then handed me his phone to talk to them. Stupid me assumed he was from DTE due to his nametag and clipboard. I wasn't even showed the Santanna paperwork until after he left and he handed it to me. Luckily, as soon as he left, I started searching online because the paperwork he left here just looked fake to me. Once I've seen what they've done to others, I was quick to try and contact them to cancel whatever just happened.

Of course, they come on a Sat. so you can cancel right away. I was worried all weekend because I was reading what a difficult time others had canceling service with these nut jobs. Lucky for me, I was very stern on the phone and the lady tried to start to give me her speech as to why I should stay. I politely told her I didn't want her service. She said she cancelled it, but we'll see what really happens. This is just crazy to me. I live in a private no soliciting community and these people don't stop. How can they act like they work for DTE (or any other gas co.) and not get in trouble? I'd like to know how we can start protecting others from falling for these liars we have annoying our neighborhoods. I also contacted my real gas co. and made sure they wouldn't shut my account down with them and they sent a complaint through them for Santanna. I'm also contacting my office where I live to make sure they can't come back.

He asked for a previous utility bill and went about marking and commenting about how I was being overcharged with my current provider, and that I would be reimbursed retroactively from my previous bills. He made no claims of his insidious nature and phrased everything as if ComEd was in the wrong. He then proceeded to make a call and have me speak to a representative so that I would be able to confirm that he checked the bill and had amended it. I was a dope for going along with this little song and dance, but I was still under the impression that he represented ComEd. I tried to quiz the man about the nature of the transaction that took place and was met with vague reassurances.

Since I was heading out the door and not anticipating this unwelcome solicitor, I quickly left when our exchange was done but not without noticing him beginning to knock on my neighbor’s door. As I left my building, I spotted a truck with another ComEd employee lazing about in the passenger seat which, at that time, eased my doubts. A few days later, I received a letter notifying me of my new energy provider (Santanna Energy Services) and how grateful they were that I had decided to use them. It was also that same day that I received an early termination fee from the provider I had chosen months ago. To put it mildly, I was furious.

Santanna Energy Services seems to have a nasty reputation of hiring smooth talking thugs to canvass neighborhoods and strong-arming people into acquiring their services, all under the guise of another energy company mind you. It seems that Michighan was hit with these kinds of sleazy and illegal practices (impersonating employees and technically breaking and entering) last year and now, the direction of the wind has shifted to the Chicago area. Be wary of anyone that asks to see your past energy bill; be very wary. One last thing, Santanna energy services would have cost far more than the company I decided to go with before and after this annoyance. There was to be no reimbursement.

Santanna Gas has called consistently several times a day for weeks to my father's house, asking about his gas bill. Eventually, after telling them again for the millionth time that I didn't pay that bill and didn't live there, they actually said my name and my father's address, a giant red flag there. I flat out told him I knew it was definitely a scam (because obviously it was), and said, "Don't call back." Yesterday, they called back, and asked for whoever did pay the gas bill, and I said, "No, I'm not getting him." When I went on to explain, he just hung up on me. Obviously, he already knew when he called he was sussed out the day before. I want to know how they got my name (not my father's), attached it to his address and phone number, and knew what gas company my father was using (I don't see the difference). I'm guessing it's all the same gas coming from the same line. What would they do anyway? If they ever call back again and I pick up the phone, I'm calling the police. I'm being very, very generous not to have called two days ago.

I answered the knock at my door only to find someone with a Santanna jacket holding a clipboard. He turned the clipboard around to show me the name DTE, and said if I could get an energy bill for him, he could show me how to save some money. At first, I was confused at why DTE would send someone to look at last month's bill, and I told him I wasn't interested. He persisted, claiming he could save some money (pointing again at the DTE name on the clipboard) if I would get last month's bill for him. I then asked him if he was from DTE and he wouldn't answer. I told him I get my statements online, and that I didn't have a paper copy. He asked if I could pull it up on the computer, show him and he would wait. By then, I was confused and beginning to think this was a scam, or his attempt to scope out homes to rob. I persisted in saying I wasn't interested, and my children were using the computer for school. He finally left. Later, I found out about this company through this site. I'm so glad I didn't give out any info.

I noticed on my phone that this company had called several times a day. When I did answer, they misrepresented themselves in two fundamental ways: 1) they misquoted the rate I was currently being charged, saying I was being charged 20 cents more than I actually was by DTE and 2) the first person (who used the relentless speech of an auctioneer/used car salesman) told me he was working with DTE to get me a better rate (half of my current rate) for 12 months. Then the "verification team" he called told me that they were not affiliated in any way with DTE. While on the phone, I said, "Wait, online I am seeing some very negative things about your company." At that point, the first guy went on a 3-minute frenzy of information and told me that the "verification team" could not answer questions or wait - that they needed a clear "yes" from me in order to save me tons of money. I could not get a word in, so I hung up. It was very shady. If they were a reputable company, as a couple of the reviewers insist, they would not need to use these tactics. I would not be at all surprised if those claiming that the company is legit are actually working for Santanna.

The first time Santana Energy called, I was nice and told them that this phone number doesn't belong to the person they were looking for anymore, and asked them kindly to remove the phone number from their records. I repeated this process the second time, and was still kind. The third time, I was not so kind and told them to stop calling. The fourth time, I asked to speak to a supervisor and was given the runaround (they said the supervisor was in a meeting), and left them an alternative contact number for the person they were looking for, obtained through additional wrong number calls.

The fifth time, I literally belittled both the employee (who again, tried the classic "supervisor is in a meeting" line) and, after threatening them with legal action if a supervisor was not found, the supervisor as well. They were both told to make sure my number was no longer in their systems. The sixth time, I did contact an attorney. This is what it takes to get these people to listen and stop.

I had a man knock on my door and he said that he was from Santana Energy on behalf of Consumers Power. After looking at my bill, he showed me where I could save some money on my bill; however, after I asked for a business card or some printed information, he said that he didn't have either and that I would have to make my decision right there and then. I was very uncomfortable with this and I told him that I was not interested and he then became very belligerent and angry that I was not going to sign up. I escorted him off of my property immediately and warned him that he would be trespassing if he came back.

After reading all the other complaints on the internet, I am glad that I didn't take him at his word and I would warn anyone to check out Santana before signing up with them. One more thing to note, all of the people giving Santana 5 stars and raving about the company and how much you will save are repeating the line given by the rep that came to my house word for word. Company employees?

Misrepresentation of Company Affiliation - When people call my house, I immediately know if they are trying to sell me something or not based on which phone rings. My house number is not known by anyone - I have never given it out. So I know any company calling it has bought my number from someone (a well-known carpet company sold my information to a bunch of places). In this case, I was called by Santanna, by a new employee named Caleb. He stated that DTE had given them my information to make sure I was getting the right price. Within a minute of realizing what his sales pitch was, I immediately informed him I am not interested in changing my energy service (due to having been scammed in the past, about 5 years ago). Caleb informed me that their company works through DTE, stated that DTE is having them call users, and to make sure their rate has dropped. When I specified that if this was indeed a DTE thing, I would rather call them and deal with them directly. I also stated that if DTE was indeed having them call me, they would have used the number on my account, not my house phone. He was a bit pushy and said he could call them right now and they would tell me they were having him call me. I got the contact information for Santanna’s customer service and he started his little sales pitch again.

After a few minutes of me telling him again, I was not interested and pointed out the flaws in his sales pitch. He started crying, stating it was only his second day and he only gets paid if someone signs up. I stated I felt badly for him, but I am not interested, having been scammed in the past. At some point, I flipped sides and agreed to go through the verification process, but only because he was very clear I could cancel it if I was unhappy. So the woman got on the phone and started her questions and on the third question, the phrasing of the question threw me off. The way she explained it, I would be getting charged through MichCon for my billing, his company for the rates DTE for the bill itself, and the few random charges.

When I asked the woman to clarify the question because it took over a minute to rattle off, she wasn’t able to do so. When I asked a direct question to make sure I understood what the question was, she did say I would get charged from both places. Technically, she’s not allowed to answer any questions I asked, which both Caleb and his supervisor who was listening in stated. She canceled the verification call and I was sent back to Caleb and his supervisor. They tried to explain the question and refused to listen to me when I stated I was not comfortable with the phrasing of that question. The supervisor would not stop talking to let me ask questions or explain my issue with the phrasing of the question.

I called DTE immediately after this call, asked the woman who picked up if they were indeed giving my information out to this company, and explained that the company stated they were sent by DTE. She said no, they would never do that - they would never call and ask for my account number. She said there’s nothing that can be done about these companies claiming that DTE is sending them because they are covered under (whatever law she said) to do that. She did, however, warn me that this company does have a habit of automatically switching you once they have your account number and to make sure to check my next bill very closely. If I get switched, I have to talk with their company - it’s out of DTE’s hands. My next bill is sent out in a few days and you better believe if I see their name on my bill, I will flip out and join any class-action suit filed against them. For those needing the customer service information, it’s 800-764-4427.

I feel bad about making the new guy cry; however, when a person says “no” and they are not interested, don’t try to bully them into signing up or guilt-trip by crying. Just thank them for their time and hang up. I will never use your service, even if it would save me money because of this.

An acquaintance of mine started working for this company back in October of 2011. Since then, he has signed up myself and at least half a dozen more people that I know. Never has anyone had a problem. When I signed, it was for $5.90 per MCF, which was about 40 cents cheaper than the consumer's gas cost recovery rate at the time. I got my bill the first month with Santana and my bill came from consumers exactly as their rep had told me and it looked exactly the same as always before. Right at the bottom of the itemization portion, it says "supplier charge Santanna Energy services, $5.90/MCF". No extra fee, no extra bill.

A few months later, my friend told me their gas price had decreased to $4.85/MCF. He told me that I may contact Santana at any time about a fix rate contract, which I can find in writing on the contract I initially signed. Sure enough, it is on the contract and when I called Santanna about it, even though I wasn't close to finishing my first 12-month contract, they still resigned me for a new 12-month term at $4.85/MCF! How about that! Maybe things work different here in MI.

I was contacted by Santana several times. At some point despite refusal, they signed me up for their service. The price was supposed to be $5.90 per mcf but showed up on the bill at $6.99 per mcf with delivery charge not included. All the other suppliers through consumers charge $4.99 to $5.49 including delivery, and I'd been paying $5.79. After switching back to IGS and getting a refund (only for the difference from $5.90 to $6.99), the account was switched back to Santana the next billing cycle without any contact, still at $6.99. I contacted them by phone. I was told they don't even offer $6.99 per mcf and I was lying. I read them the gas supplier section of the bill in full detail. "Well, those are our numbers but you can get those on the internet. You can mail us a copy of the bill but we don't really do refunds and you should already know better than to switch back to IGS."

First I did a search for Santana and only came back with negative feedback. I called Consumer's to speak to them about it and they were not behind anyone coming to anyone's residence on this behalf.

While I may not always be thrilled with only having Consumer's as my service provider for this area, I have never had a problem with their customer service. Calling Santana back to cancel the program, I was first put on hold to which I was hung up on. I then received a phone call from them angry with me for disconnecting.

When I told them I wanted to cancel the program, they became extremely rude and start to speak to me in a condescending manner, much like others have complained about here. I told them I looked into their services and was not thrilled with what I found out and was given the same "you don't want to save money?" routine that others have gotten as well.

The company knows one way to try and retain customers and that is to bully them. While this probably seems like a great deal (having a choice and seeing a reduction in your monthly bill) the cost will actually be higher in the end due to hidden fees. Avoid this company at all costs.

I've been contacted two times by this company. The first time, I told the girl that I was on the registry, and not to call me anymore, and one week later, I received another call from them. I asked the gentleman why he was calling someone on the registry, and that it was against the law to do it, and his exact words were "come on, don't you want to save some money? You're going to use gas anyway, aren't you? Why do you have to be this way?" When I told him again that he was breaking the law, he said "who cares, when I'm here to save you money?" I then hung up, and looked them up on the internet, and contacted their Southfield, MI office, and asked them if they knew the number that was calling me, and the lady said I can't give you that information.

I asked her if she had reps calling people on the call registry, and she said, "I think that they are not supposed to, and that it was up to the individuals to watch that themselves". She immediately wanted my information, and would have someone call me back, but I told her I didn't want to be contacted by her company in the first place, and that I would not disclose who I was. I have since sent complaints to the BBB, the FTC, the MPSC, and my local news agencies. A few years back, a company going door to door trying to get people to switch on the spot tried to con my wife to switching, even after she said she wanted to discuss it with me. They then slammed my gas service, and switched it without authorization. I'm not sure if this is the same company but I've already contacted my current carrier to let them know that they are not to switch at any time. I hope they get fined, but probably will just get a slap on the wrist.

He did leave his badge #, and phone number, (a Lakeshore area code, even though he said the local office was only about 1-2 miles from our house, though he never gave a specific address). He also said he's from "Santanna Energy," the issue I have is, he didn't even spell it right, so, who's "stupid"?! Anyway, I don't think he saw or wrote down our account number. If he did, he'll be hearing from our lawyer.

If Santana Energy is on the up and up, then why are they refusing to obey a "No Soliciting" sign at the front of GlenWood Estates in Sparta Michigan? Ignoring a “No Soliciting” sign is trespassing. So, they are breaking the law every time they come to my door, and this has been done 3 times in the last 3 months. The manager has kicked them out at least 2 times that I know of, and every month Santana sends a different agent as to avoid, no doubt, being prosecuted for trespassing.

Secondly, why are these agents of Santana Energy telling people that they are making sure that home heating credits are being applied to their bills? They are not looking to save you money. They are looking to steal your contract from DTE. Once they get the bill, they write the contract number down and switch the billing to their own contracts. This is quite deceptive.

If Santana was doing things the way they should be done and not ripping people off, they wouldn't need to resort to underhanded fraudulent activities to sign people up. People would be beating a path to their offices. Santana is a ripoff, and they are snakes when it comes to sneaking your contract number off your gas bill. Do not let them see your gas bill! If they claim to be DTE, then they should already know what your contract and billing states. If they claim to be government employees, tell them the last time the government offered you help -you lost your house!

Santana Energy Services has a great BBB rating. Since signing up, my rate has always been lower than the utility rate. You should learn more about the program from reading peoples' responses on here because I can tell that you know nothing about the choice program. You don't get a separate bill. It doesn't cost you more money, it actually saves money. My current rate is lower with Santana than it would be if I just left it with DTE, and has been for over a year! My grandmother lives in an area where consumers energy is the gas utility and she has Santana also. Their rate right now is $5.90 per mcf while consumers is above $6.10! Learn the program before you bash it.

She rudely grabbed my mother's phone and called her agent to get these savings for my mother on her gas bill, when my mother never had said yes.

Later I found out after she had left that she was not from DTE Energy at all, she was employed through Santanna Energy. So, I then contacted DTE and they confirmed that they were not out at my mother's home. I then contacted Santanna Energy to cancel what this representative had signed my mother up for. I was told I could not cancel for 24 hours. I called back after an hour and got someone else that cancelled this account and then I called back to DTE and put a password on my mother's account so that they cannot try and get gas at another address in my mother's name.

I called TV 13 on your side, talked with an Officer of the law and an Attorney in regards to Santanna Energy's misrepresenting themselves as someone that they are not. I also checked online and found all these complaints against them as well. I feel that DTE as well as all these other companies should be able to sue them as well for saying they belong to all these other places when they do not. As well as stating they save you money when all it is, is a lie to steal your money when actually the company in which you are with is still supplying you with their gas. Santanna is sending you a bill for nothing, just to steal your money.

I think we should all stand up and get an attorney and file a class action law suit against Santanna, for these criminal acts against the public. If you feel you would like to be a part of this class action law suit, please contact me at ** please leave me a message. If I don't answer, I will get back with you and your concerns. It’s pretty sad that they can prey on people in this dire economy and have no remorse. I feel that all of you should contact TV 13 on your side and give them your complaint as well so this will be aired on live television so that everyone that has not come in contact with Santanna Energy and their representatives are aware and can protect themselves against these kinds of corrupt people and companies.

Their number is **, TV 13 on your side. We need to stand up for ourselves and stand together and say enough is enough. And all those that have been taken from this company can get back all the money stolen from them. Contact me.

He stayed with me while the person he called was verifying my information over the phone.

The person on the phone sounded like a telemarketer, so I immediately got angry on the phone and explained to them that the person at my front door is acting like he is from GTE energy. I told the people on the phone, "Be honest with me, are you with GTE?" and they said "No".

So, I told this man on my front porch to go and unfortunately, he took off with my account number. These people are sneaky. Bad business practices if you have to pretend you are from GTE.

I explained that I recently had energy efficient windows put in and that my energy usage was down by 42% from last year. He still insisted that he needed to see my bill because he was assigned to my area and that some homes in the area had been showing inadequate usage and that he needed to check the bill and notify DTE to correct it.

I stated that his shirt logo stated he was from Sanatan Energy and not DTE, so I wouldn't share anything like a bill with him and I needed him to leave me his badge number, phone number, name and I would call DTE tomorrow to verify if he was who he said he was. He told me I should have received a letter or flyer in my DTE bill that stated that DTE would be sending someone out to check my bill for verification of my usage.

I left him empty-handed even though he showed me at least 8 names on his clipboard that he said were my neighbors that had let him view their bills.

Santanna Energy Services is not a scam! As a representative of Santanna Energy services, I must make a comment to clear up the complaints. Granted, there are some phone sales representatives out there who are not courteous and unprofessionally persistent. To me, it is sad that we have been given such a bad name because Santanna is such a great company. In 2005, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita disrupted and destroyed oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico. This led to disaster driven crisis pricing in the energy markets and natural gas prices doubled! Due to these events, Santanna Energy Services was forced to send a letter to some of its customers on fixed price programs, notifying that it was no longer possible to deliver natural gas at their fixed price level and effective with deliveries on and after October 1, 2005 to a market driven price. As soon as the market pricing settled back to normal, Santanna did address differences in cost that they experienced. Santanna does save people money.

I sign up over 15 people a day and do routine satisfaction checks in which I've only had 3 cancellations in 2 years, and that was because either the business was sold or a better rate was found. With over 20 years of experience and success, we must be doing something right. People must realize that every company has complaints. If you look up your cable company, your phone company, your internet company, your gas and electric companies, your hospital, your dentist, etc., they will all have dissatisfied customers, yet you remain loyal to them. Please just take the time to listen to a courteous representative and if you want to research, do detailed research to find out true information instead of listening to people's experiences.

I apologize on behalf of real representatives to those who have been harassed by unprofessional ones. A good solution is to take the info of the rep, write down the date and time of the call, and then ask to be placed on the do not call list. That way, if you're continually harassed, the representative will be found and dealt with appropriately, which is usually termination.

I, too, recently received a call from a representative implying he was from Nicor on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 7:00pm. He went into a whole speech about how I could get involved in this "great" program (Customer Select) since my account has been in good standing for some time. I asked him several times what this program entailed and why I had never heard of it before, because he had made it seem that it was something I had to complete, saying it was past due, and I could have 20 more days to fill out the paperwork and get it finalized. After asking me numerous times to pull out my Nicor bill, I finally did and was asked for the therm count on the bill. I decided to give this to him, and once I did, he then proceeded to ask me for my account number.

I was already concerned about the legitimacy of the call, but once I was asked for my account number, I told him I would call my local Nicor office first and he could call back. He got frustrated with my response, and proceeded with attitude and gave me all of his information including his license number, name, customer service number, where I could go view the Customer Select program on Nicor's website, etc. to, in his words 'ease my mind.' I again told him I was going to contact my local branch first. After several minutes of going back and forth, he finally said to me, "It would just make my life easier if you would just give me your account number, then I won't have to have my secretary pull your account again."

Upon hearing that, I told him again that I was going to contact my local branch before I gave out any information and he could call back another day. He then proceeded to say, "You know what I'm going to do, I'm just going to put a note in your file right now not to call you back, and when your name comes up again, I will just pass it up!" Wow! Talk about customer service! I informed him I did not appreciate the harassment and I would be filing a formal complaint. Now, this entire time, my blood was boiling and I had thought it was a Nicor representative! I had tried calling Nicor's customer service department as soon as I got off the call to follow through with my complaint, but come to find out; the customer service office closes at 7! Well, that didn't make any sense!

I decided to try calling the customer service number the representative had given me, and that's when I found out it was Santanna Energy Services! The next day, I called Nicor to inform them of my call from the night before. The representative from Nicor was extremely nice and very apologetic even though it had nothing to do with them. She took down notes from my call and said she was going to pass them along. I then called Santanna Energy Services and spoke with a customer service representative and told her I wanted to make a complaint. The representative I spoke with said all calls were recorded and they would be looking over the call from the previous day. I asked her how things would proceed and was told if he was entirely out of line, it may lead to termination. I asked to be called back Monday, after they looked into the complaint.

It is now Tuesday, and I have yet to hear back from Santanna. And, it gets better. The representative, Larry, initially called me Thursday from an 877 area code number located in Carson City, NJ. After looking at my caller ID on Friday, I received 2 calls from the same number; one around 5:30, 15 minutes after I made the complaint, and the second at 9:00 at night! I did not notice any missed calls on the phone on Saturday, but Sunday, I received another call from the same number at 12:30pm! As stated on the website of Santanna; it says that representatives are assigned to accounts, meaning there wouldn't be numerous representatives directed to each account. So, I can only assume it is the same representative, Larry that is trying to contact me again.

I just can't believe I am still getting calls from this rep, and why am I getting calls later than 8pm and calls on Sunday?! All in all, I really hope people think twice about getting involved with this company. As you can see from numerous other complaints and the recent lawsuit, it's as close to a scam as you can get.

After one person explained the program and costs and answered my questions, they put me on a line with a verifier. I was told that the verifier could not answer questions and could only accept yes or no responses. During the conversation with the verifier, the verifier said something that was different from what was explained to me. I questioned this and the person who had first explained the program jumped back online to attempt to answer the question.

Upon answering the question, this person put me back on the line with the verifier, who, in proceeding through the script, told me I had to answer with a yes or no answer (because I had answered with "correct" instead of "yes"- because I realize that yes can be construed differently from "correct") and asked another question that was not as explained. The initial person again jumped back on the line to answer the question and had me hold for the verifier to come back on the line. At this point, I became uncomfortable and hung up. I have two questions. Through research I found that Santana Gas has had some issues with maintaining their fixed quoted pricing. Is this still an issue? Based on my starting the conversation with them and answering a few "yes" questions, will they automatically make the change (even though I did not complete the process)?

On Thursday, August 13, 2009, I was contacted by telephone and asked if I would be interested in saving money on my gas bill. The company represented by this telemarketer was Santanna Energy Services and I was told that I qualified to purchase my natural gas at a wholesale rate because I have always paid my gas bill on time. I was asked who my current provider was and I told the representative that I was satisfied with both the rate I was paying and the service of this company, IGS. I was then told by the representative that they were charging me at a much higher rate per therm than Santanna would charge. I then agreed to consider switching after having an opportunity to carefully go over their agreement which they were to send to me in the "next few days".

I had reservations just from the experience on the telephone with Santanna's representative and was told that someone from Santanna would then verify that I was indeed eligible for a reduced rate. Thus far, I have agreed only to consider switching providers if in fact they were being truthful. I then decided to check to see what possible complaints I might find regarding Santanna Energy Services and discovered that there is a suit against them by the Attorney General of Illinois. I wanted to report this occurrence in hopes that it might help others who are contacted by this company to know that they could be dealing with dishonest people.

My bill is $230 a month. A man called me on the phone about a locked rate for my gas. I told him okay. When I received my gas bill, it was $579.11 for 02/04/2009, total balance $1,247.11. The supplier charges $422.11. I'm on a budget plan with Peoples Gas. I'm also on a fixed income and I am going to have a hard time paying this bill.

In December of 2008, I received a flyer in the mail stating that Nicor Gas buys their gas directly from Santana Energy. I called Santana Energy and they stated they could save me up to 10% every month by buying my gas directly from them. I called Nicor and switched. I was paying Nicor $171 a month on their budget plan. My December gas bill, 1st from Santana, was $263.56. They said that was because Nicor did not read my meter. I paid it. This month's bill is $395.78. How can that be? Santana's cost per therm last month was .08 more per therm than Nicor. I was told I would save money. I am going back to Nicor. I wish I never left.

Now, I have to pay the Santana bill of $395.78 so I do not ruin my credit. When I did speak to Roberto **, team leader at Santana, I had asked to speak to his supervisor. He said he was the end-all and no one was above him. I asked to speak to the CEO of the company and he stated again all complaints go through him. My opinion is this company is running a scam and I am sorry I ever thought I could save money with them. Any help you could give me or other potential customers would be greatly appreciated.

Feb. 1, 2008 received a telemarketing call from a male, stated he was with Sanatana Eneregy Services. This man said Santana Energy Services was a "Front End Supplier" of natural gas, and that as I as a "customer in good standing with Nicor Gas, could receive a 10% descount on my current gas bills if I enetered a 12 month service agreement with them". I questioned the call...took some information, and stated if interested I would contact them. I am no different than anyone and must admit that the thought of saving money appealed to me. I did however, have a few bells going off and declined.

After the conversation I decideded to seek out further information regarding this company, as I had never heard of them. Having come accross the article in your site regarding a 2005 lawsuit, I am very happy I followed my gut instinct, and declined his offer. I have provided you with all the information I was given, and hope you follow through as necessary. I do so hate companies that prey on people's wanting to save money in these times.

Santana defrauded Illinois and its customers. It did that just to make money. Customers should know about US Energy Savings Corporation. They give last years rate as your fixed price for 5 years. Thats 5 full Winters at last years prices. Thats an awesome deal 5 years ago you paid 27 cents per therm. Last winter Peoples charged over 1.30 per therm. Just think how much money you will save over the next 5 winters. By your 4th year you most likely would be paying half as much as your neighbors who are not doing this. Most Important of all US Energy will not renig on the deal its all legit. Santana should have to pay customers back for what they did
