If I was able to give less than a star I would. I purchased trip protection from World Nomads for a trip my wife and I took to Nepal. Unfortunately both my wife and I fell very sick after making it to Everest Base Camp and climbing Ama Dablam. We were rushed to a hospital and had to sent to Kathmandu by helicopter and had to stay 4 days in a hospital. We spent over $7,500 between the flight and hospital feeling secure that we had coverage and would be reimbursed. This was in November. After several phone calls trying to navigate their claim submission we submitted our claim on 11/27/2024. It is now 02/04/2025 and I still have no resolution to my claim. I will never use World Nomads or anything related to Trip Mates again

We are dealing with terrible customer service from TripMate. We booked my "dream vacation" for my 50th Birthday Dec, 2024. A Western Mediterranean Cruise. I started to feel nauseous on the long flight to Rome. Once we got to the hotel in Rome the day before the cruise I started to get worse. I was so sick, weak and body shakes, etc. So we went to the ER in Rome. (That is another story, a terrible experience one at that.). The ER was less than helpful and didn't do much after hrs. After returning back to the hotel I was not feeling any better. We cancelled the cruise in fear of getting worse on the ship and having to be medivaced to another hospital. We had to rebook flights next day to return to the US. I did not want to go back to that horrible hospital. Upon speaking with Tripmate they said to scan and email all documents and proof of expenses, etc.
It took days to compile all the receipts, credit card statements, airline, cruise cancellation forms, etc. We scanned 48 pages of all the required documents. We finally got an explanation of benefits calculation from Tripmate. We couldn't figure out where they got some of those numbers from??? We called to get tossed around a few times, then a "lead CSR" Sean called us back. He was less than helpful. He couldn't find the certain document, he couldn't see certain files? Blah Blah Blah. Has anyone been told this "you must have the original receipt from the merchant in order for them to reimburse you?" WE did not carry cash around Europe. We used our AMEX and Visa.
We provided the credit card statements with all the charges. Sorry, but the cab driver to the ER did not print us a receipt, or the food delivered to the hotel from an app didn't leave a receipt either, or the shuttle from the hotel to the airport. That's ridiculous. Also they will not reimburse us the airfare we had paid to return home last minute. We had round trip tickets of course originally but when we had to book last minute tickets to get home it was like 1k more each on top of the price we originally paid. They will only reimburse us the additional fee we had to pay not the original amount we paid for the return flight already. Why??? I don't get it??? None of this is stated in our policy?
Now all they do is tell us we have to email an appeal. Stall tactics and drag this out for months probably. I am so upset I had to cancel my "dream vacation" That we booked 7 months in advance and worked so hard to pay it off just to be distraught from the run around from this company. They do not stand by their policies and just steal your money and deny claims. I am going to call the Insurance Commissioner to investigate their business practices.

Thanks for your review, Stacie. If you could provide more details about your review, please email our Customer Experience department at CXCareTeam@generalitravelinsurance.com. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Original Review: They don't even deserve a one star! Horrible rip off insurance company! I had emergency eye surgery, had to cancel my trip which was the last thing I wanted to do! But a gas bubble put in your eye to hold it together will burst if you fly leaving you blind. I provided documentation as requested, all the proof needed, when I paid how much, doctor's statement so on so forth. Still only paid half the claim!! I see several complaints and lawsuits against this company. Buyer beware. Stay away. Another rip off insurance company!!!! What happen in NYC. I totally see why.

I am very unhappy with my experiences with TripMate Insurance. I booked an flight from Dallas Tx to Houston Tx and canceled it well within the time required by the guidelines of the insurance policy. After filing the claim and receiving a seven page claim form for myself and my doctor to fill out was complied with the insurance company delay the claim and insisting more information and documents from the airlines and my doctor to sign. Information they already had access to, they showed me that they never intended to honor the contract by giving me the runaround. I would never use Trip mate services again nor will I use any booking site affiliated with them again nor would I recommend it for anyone. My name is Columbus ** and I swear this statement to be true.

I had to cancel my trip to Jamaica due to the fact the Orlando Airport shut down because of a hurricane which in turn my connecting flight was canceled. I called Couples Resort and canceled my reservation because I had no way of getting there. I then called Trip Mate to ask them my next step. The gentleman I spoke to asked if the flights were canceled yet. I said no but, the airport shut down. He then stated that I should have not canceled my room yet and I messed everything up. I called Couples back 15 minutes later and re-established my room. Couples had to give me a new booking number even though I was still getting the same room for the same dates. The airline then canceled the flights the next day. I then called Couples back and canceled the reservation again.
I then filed with Trip Mate for my room refund of $5805.00 with all the proof the airport was shut down by the Orlando Airport Authority. A government entity which is covered under their policy as a reason for trip cancellation. I waited 30 plus days with no word, so I called for status. The agent I was connected to started to tell me I was declined because I canceled because of a named storm and the insurance did not cover that. I tried to argue the point and she completely got ignorant with me. I then asked for a superior and she stated she was a superior and any other superior will tell me the same thing. I finally made her transfer me. This time I was connected with a more friendly person. He stated that I also had an open reservation with couples yet. I told him I canceled and then rebooked because their agent scared me that I did something wrong and would not get covered.
He stated that he will look into it and get back with me in a couple of days. It has now been a week and a half and nothing. So far, how I feel with this company, is that they are going to find any way not to pay my claim. In review, I had to cancel my trip because the airport closed down. I canceled my rooms and then rebooked because their agent told me I should not have canceled the room yet. To this day, I’m not sure why it mattered. I was not getting there. Claim **.

Since returning from our trip, I have submitted about 20 emails and 40 documents to tripmate. When I questioned why additional redundant doc was needed I was told the claim adjuster will not work the claim unless I sent the requested doc. IMO… It’s a runaround delay tactic to not pay our claim. Viking Cruises scheduled the doctor for us.. My husband and I were diagnosed with bronchitis and acute respiratory illness. We were prescribed antibiotics and bed rest. What is the problem with Trip Mate honoring our insurance claim? So far, I have spent at least 8 hours collecting, copying, scanning, and emailing them doc. Ridiculous amount of time for two doctor visits. So far - after about a month - I have not been sent any compensation for our out of pocket medical expenses.

Trip Mate has used the exact same reason for the delay in payment for the second time.. In 2020 we had to cancel a trip because I was diagnosed with cancer. This year we took the same trip we didn't go on in 2020. This time my wife got ill half way through the trip and we were dropped from the tour. (Another complaint with CIE Tours.) Both trips were covered by TripMate and both claim payments were delayed for about 3 to 4 months after being approved for the exact same excuse.
TripMate claims that the checks were issued a month after the claim was approved but then after a month later when there are no checks, they claim that the checks must be lost and the old checks have to be cancelled and new checks issued. After which another month and a half goes by with no payment and when called they have another excuse that they just cancelled the checks (a month and a half after they said the checks were lost) and that it will take another 21 days at least for new checks to be issued. This was exactly the same scenario as the first claim four years ago!!!

Worst experience ever! I had to cancel a Viking cruise due to a disabling and sudden medical condition. After 6 months of haggling, providing documentation, repeat doctor appointments just so that she could personally fill out forms because it was not allowed that her office staff fill out the forms for her signature, etc. After the second and unfounded denial, I finally filed a complaint with the Missouri Insurance Commission. Surprise, a few days later my claim was suddenly approved! They still took several weeks to mail my reimbursement though. If you’re still having a hard time collecting on a legitimate claim I would highly recommend contacting the Missouri Insurance Commission. They were really helpful and nice.

Our flight was cancelled while we were in Jamaica leaving us wondering how we were going to make it home and where we would stay till the next flight out would be in TWO days. The extra days was $1000. The insurance was $250. Tripmate only gave us $600 back. I will never use this company again or even stay at a Sandals. Truly unhappy from day one.

Submitted 30+ pages of info including a detailed history of all my flight delays and issues leading to missing an entire trip. First they only reimburse me for a day and when I called and explained I missed my whole trip they said they would relook at it. After a month I call back and it never was never reopened and they wanted me to email them and I refused since they didn’t do their job a month ago. The review need more info. Now they are only giving us a little more money. $2000 out an almost $6000 trip. How is that trip insurance. Absolutely horrible, do not recommend and will never use again. Original Review: I have filed my claim correctly which the company has acknowledged on 8/21, claim #**, at Tripmate.com/claims. On 8/30/24 and 9/6/24 I was advised on the phone that the claim was still be reviewed. On 9/9/24 the claim was approved and sent to accounting for payment then on then 9/23 I was to told the check writing department is processing it and will take 7-10 days. Today is 10/7 and I am told they are experiencing problems writing checks and no one can tell me when the check will be issued. The customer service rep could not transfer me to her supervisor because she doesn't have one, ridiculous. This is a stall to keep my money as long as they can. They wanted the surgeon to fill out a form which I did and submitted to them. They only sent me a Refund of 1791.65. What a rip off!! Pretty much covered what I paid for the trip insurance and a little bit more. I plan to notify Viking Cruise Line about this company they are recommending. We took a trip with Viking cruises who uses Trip Mate Insurance. Due to a mechanical problem with the aircraft and flight cancellation in Chicago we had to delay the start of our trip by one day. We had booked a precruise trip to Iceland for $1999 so I submitted a claim for the missed day as a trip interruption for $666. I got a letter from United Airlines (delay letter) as requested by Trip Mate as well as submitted all the relevant paperwork to support payment for the precruise tour. Received a letter today from Tripmate that this was not covered in their policy. I went back and looked at the policy today and it very clearly states that delays due to aircraft mechanical issues are covered. Learned my lesson about purchasing insurance with Trip Mate.

Unfortunately, I am another customer experiencing a lengthy delay in my reimbursement. My return home from Jamaica was delayed this summer due to Hurricane Beryl. On Aug. 12, 2024, the claim showed another notation stating that the claim is in process. On August 13, 2024, I was informed that my check would be in the mail before Labor Day. I called today and was told the check has to reviewed again and will be in the mail within 10 business days. I fear this company can't pay the claims and I won't receive what I am owed. I plan to speak with my AAA travel agent and let them know about this negative experience. I also plan to call in 10 business days and speak with the State of NC Attorney General. Strangely shortly after they found my claim information and finally on 10/4/2024 after many more emails and phone calls, they sent me an email that allowed me to print a check for $60 (the amount of my claim). A service charge of $4.91 would have been applied with a direct deposit or any other kind of transfer! Luckily, I have access to a printer and was able to print my check and deposit it. It took from June until October to get my money. My friend who was also due about $250 finally gave up and said it wasn't worth it. I think that's what they count on. I am increasing my review score to a 2 star since I did receive the reimbursement....finally.
Original review: I agree with others who have said Trip Mate is terrible insurance. A friend and I traveled to Africa recently. We experienced a flight cancellation and missed the first day of our tour and had to get a hotel room, meals, etc. Trip Mate would not reimburse me because she paid for the entire trip expenses with her credit card. I had to file a separate claim which was terribly difficult due to circumstances where I live in Summer (no printer or internet). Even though the amount was only $60, it is the principal. If they can make it so difficult for you to file a claim and get reimbursement, they hope you'll give up. We both did. Then they can pocket the $60. Multiply that by several hundred people and you have quite a saving for Trip Mate. If I could give 0 stars I would. Buyer beware.

I would not recommend this company to anyone. My boyfriend and I were supposed to fly to Jamaica on July 20th, and he ended up testing positive for COVID on the 18th. He only took an at-home test because he did not feel a trip to urgent care or the ER warranted the extra bill. Paid the money for travel insurance only for them to fight us on giving back our refund because "he did not seek medical treatment".
I spoke to one agent with the company who told us he could bring proof of the positive test and they could fill out the form, but everywhere I call says they do not do that. I spoke to a different agent who basically just told me there is nothing they can do without that form. So it is a lose-lose situation. CDC recommends to seek treatment if symptoms persist for more than 5-7 days, but he was feeling a lot better (still exhibiting symptoms) within 24 hours, which especially did not warrant a trip to his PCP, urgent care, or ER. Everyone I have spoke to with customer service has either given me wrong information, has been extremely rude, or both.

We’re sorry the coverage didn’t meet your expectations, A. After a Viking trip we missed our flight out of Madrid Airport due to some type of security threat which resulted very slow lines of passport checks. New tickets were issued for our flight home. We tried to get documentation for the delay at the airport with no success and so attempted to just collect the money for our flight from Miami to Detroit. We were reimbursed for only part of our flight home. When I questioned why we were only given reimbursement for one leg of our journey, they told me that this ticket was not part of our original purchase and therefore exempt. Of course it was different as we needed a new ticket to get home after missing our flight!!!!
Everyone I talked to had a different reason for denial of claim. The delay occurred in our hometown so we 1. took a cab home from the airport, 2. stayed at home rather than a hotel, 3. took a cab back to the airport the next day. United Airlines provided a "Delay Letter" as requested by Trip Mate. The claim was quite simple, two cab rides (each documented with receipts), one day missed on the $1,999 per person pre-trip extension (documented by Viking). We had even saved them the cost of a hotel room by going home for the night.
TripMate kept asking for the same documentation (which we repeatedly provided) and then they "settled" the claim by paying for the cab ride home from the airport. There isn't much money involved here but what better example can you find of an inept (or corrupt) insurer? They totally ignored the lost day on the pre-trip extension and they paid for a cab ride one way but not the return trip! Were we supposed to walk back to the airport in the morning. I only wish that I had read these reviews before buying Viking's insurance!

If I could leave no stars, I would. We purchased tickets to our destination directly from the airline and our return flight through a third party app. We didn’t purchase insurance from the airline; however we purchased Tripmate insurance for our return flight tickets. Our flight out was delayed for over 4 hours, so we didn’t go. Our tickets were refunded, no questions asked by the airline. We submitted our claim for reimbursement for our return flight, as we couldn’t use our tickets because we never arrived at our destination. They requested extra documentation, which we provided, all for in the end to be denied, no explanation, no correspondence at all. When we called for an explanation, we were simply told that the reason didn’t fall under the criteria for reimbursement. This is a complete waste of money. Buy your tickets directly from the airline, where customer satisfaction clearly is a priority.

Buyer Beware! We recently planned and purchased a celebratory vacation package to Sandals Montego Bay via Unique Vacations, as well as purchasing their "cancel for any reason" trip insurance through Trip Mate on January 14, 2024. On January 23, 2024, the USA issued an updated Level 3 travel advisory for all of Jamaica, with a specific warning: "Do Not Travel" to Montego Bay, including their all-inclusive resorts, due to increase in violent crimes, armed robberies, sexual assaults and homicides, warning that police, emergency and medical services do not respond effectively, if at all.
Apparently, the danger has increased to a very serious level and only a fool would disregard this warning. The sole purpose of a vacation is to celebrate, relax and unwind; not hope we make it through and come home alive. We could never enjoy our vacation. If this is not an acceptable reason to cancel our trip, then I don't know what is. Unfortunately, Unique Vacations and Trip Mate could care less about the safety of its travelers and denied our claim for refund. First, they denied the claim flat out; then they then came back with "good news" for us when we complained and offered travel vouchers in lieu of our refund. Their "good news' solution is for us to purchase and plan a future vacation through them using their "travel vouchers" (i.e. our money)! We complained again with frustration and were told, sorry, but no refund! We are now out $5,000!!!!
These two companies are clearly in cahoots and that is why I am warning future customers to be very careful. You shouldn’t have spend this much time composing emails, collecting documents and filing complaints with consumer protection agencies. These companies as a whole should be held accountable and be completely transparent with their sneaky policies, to include verbal disclosures of a consumer’s risk in losing their hard-earned money.

In September 2023 my husband and I book a Viking Cruise on the Douro River with a 4 night pre-cruise extension package in Lisbon, Portugal starting September 9. We booked our flight on United Airlines on September 7 to arrive in Lisbon on September 8. We could get a day's rest before we started our extension. Our United flight leaving Newark airport was canceled due to an "operational issue" stated on the texts we received from United on September 7. We rebooked on United leaving Newark on September 10. We lost two nights of our pre-cruise extension (September 9 and 10) plus an excursion on September 11. We immediately filed a claim upon our return.
The claim form states on the second page "cause of your travel delay - submit any documentation substantiating the reason for your travel delay." Then it states on the third page "Your delay was the result of (check appropriate box) Box No. 1 Carrier delay or cancellation and box No. 2 Circumstances other than carrier delay or cancelation (Describe reasons below). I checked box No. 1 - Carrier delay or cancellation. I called United Airlines and received a Verification letter from United stating, "The above referenced customers were scheduled to travel on UA64 07Sep2023, from New York/Newark, NJ, to Lisbon, Portugal. The flight UA64 07Sep2023 was cancelled due to Aircraft servicing. Customers rebooked on flight UA64 10Sep2023, from New York/Newark, NJ, to Lisbon, Portugal."
"The flight UA64 10Sep2023 was departed delay 190 minutes and arrived delay 172 minutes due to inbound aircraft late arrival because of Unscheduled Aircraft Substitution Resulting In A Negative Turn and Security-Vendor." I also submitted the text messages I received from United stating that the flight was cancelled due to an operational issue. Tripmate denied the claim because the verification letter stated "Aircraft servicing." They want it to state "mechanical problems" or "operational issue." Even though it states "operational issue" on the text messages I received from United, Trip Mate would not accept the text messages. I then called Viking and spoke to two agents - the first agent told me that if Trip Mate did not pay they would give us compensation for another trip we booked with Viking for September 2024 from Athens to Greece.
When I received the "denied" from Trip Mate I called Viking again and got an agent that told me I should have read the fine print because it states that it has to be a "mechanical problem or operational issue." If I didn't have a second trip booked with Viking I would never travel with Viking again. Thank God I did not take Trip Mate Insurance when I booked the second trip. I contacted United AGAIN and asked for another Verification letter stating that it has to say "Mechanical Problems." I received an auto-generated email from United Airlines stating it will take from 3 to 8 weeks for a reply. It seems Trip Mate does not cover a flight cancellation due to a strike. Trip Mate is waiting for me to give up and I certainly will not. If Trip Mate is reading this my Claim ID is ** so you cannot say that you have no way of identifying my claim.
I have traveled with Viking many times and truly enjoy my Viking trips however there are many other high end cruises available. I have traveled Regent, Seabourn, Silversea, Windstar, and Tauck both sea and land. I even had a trip planned to Machu Picchu in February of 2020 when Covid struck. United refunded our tickets and Tauck refunded our ENTIRE trip. We even planned an extension on our own to Rio and Iguazu Falls and booked private tours in both places. We received all of that money back as well as the internal flights. Did not lose a penny even though Covid was a pandemic and the insurance companies were denying claims. However we traveled with reputable companies who cared for their customers. Obviously Viking cares for the bottom line. Well goodbye Viking as well.

We purchased Tripmate for a Viking cruise. We were to take to Prague in November, 2023. We canceled a few days before the trip, knowing we had canceled for any reason insurance through Tripmate. Tripmate is not an expensive. We applied for the Viking voucher that was promised on October 30, 2023. I sent our claim package via registered mail, so I know they actually received our package. On November 11, I emailed a copy of the claim package. Our claim shows that it was received on November 11. The insurance requires you to use the voucher within one year of the certificate. After several follow-up, phone calls and daily checking online I received an email on December 16 saying the vouchers will be issued and mailed. I emailed customer service on December 29 I emailed customer service again and was told I would receive a response within 72 hours. On January 4 I called back to customer services.
I hadn’t received the vouchers or a response to my email. I was told they were printed on January 3 and mailed. Then on January 5, I received a response to my December 29 email and was told they were printed on 12/14 and mailed. I just called again today January 9 and it was confirmed. They were mailed on December 14th. I asked, how can I get a reprint, they said I have to wait 30 days till after the mail date before they will reprint. And they only send snail mail. So there’s no guarantee I’ll ever gets our vouchers. I’m disappointed that Viking recommends them as their ensure.
I’ve been traveling with Viking for years and always purchased their insurance. Never had to use it. This is the first time I purchased through a third-party, since Viking doesn’t offer the insurance directly anymore. Next time I’ll contact the third-party insurance company for travel. I’m not certain whether I should complain about Customer Service or Accounting. Our claim was very straightforward. I broke my ankle and we had to cancel our Viking Cruise. We received the 25% Viking refund within 48 hours. After submitting all the paperwork - it took Trip Mate ~30 days to process the claim, approve the other 75% and issue an E-check. This is where the nightmare began. I agree that electronic payment is preferred, but since the claim was for more than $5,000 I had to print the check and "take it to my bank or credit union." Navy Federal Credit Union stated that "they had not accepted E-checks for a long time." I contacted customer service who said that a "stop payment" would need to be processed on the E-check and a hard copy check mailed. Easy enough. That was 10 ten (10) weeks ago, Oct 26th.
It took six (6) weeks of calling customer service, I was finally passed to a supervisor who did not understand the E-check process for rejected checks. Surprisingly this was not the first time Navy Federal had rejected a Trip Mate E-check, so this is nothing new. At week seven (7) the "stop payment" was finally processed (15 Dec). At nine (9) weeks (19 Dec) I was notified that the checks were sent for processing. No transaction date and still no checks.
• Why did it take more than 6 weeks to initiate a "stop payment?" If a supervisor needs to initiate the process - why wasn't I transferred to them on day one? Stopping payment should take a few business days - not several weeks! I could blame accounting for the slow response - but my guess is they were not notified on Oct 26th that there was an issue.
• Customer Service personnel are poorly trained and if they don't know the answer make up ridiculous and sometimes rude responses. The Accounting department does not have to check with banks to see if the check was cashed. Banks do not cash large checks - they have to be deposited and cleared. Where is the clear process for communicating and processing rejected checks?
• At one point, one Customer Service person told me that they are a small company and did not have accounting capacity to process the thousands of insurance plans and claims they process every day. I'm sure this is an exaggeration, but probably some truth in accounting inefficiencies if it takes more than 3-5 business days to issue a hard check.• When will we receive our checks?

On the trip back from San Francisco, we were told that we had to get off the train in Salt Lake City or go back to Emeryville, California, because the rails were washed out, therefore our trip was cancelled. (When we booked this, our 49th wedding anniversary trip, we were not given an option but were charged over $400, each to purchase this insurance.) So, because we thought we had no other option, in the middle of the night I found airline tickets to get back home. Also, because my husband is a pastor, we needed to return home on time because of a death in our church family.
TripMate advertises as being Ethical. There is nothing ethical about this company. They did Not reimburse us for even the total costs of our airline tickets back home. They reimbursed us for None of our missed trip (which was supposed to be the most scenic part). They listed it as a delay not cancellation. I’m not sure why the costs of this insurance was added to our trip costs except to fatten the company’s pockets!! This company (TripMate) also promises to settle most cases within two weeks. I submitted our information to them three months ago. They only put on their website to grant us an amount that was basically the cost of the insurance. We have not received any money at this time. While on a walking tour in Amsterdam, the guide walked us through a construction zone and I tripped over two misaligned steel plates, landing flat on my face. The force of the fall caused my teeth to go through my lower lip causing extensive bleeding and my three piece bridge was broken. I reported this to the Viking representative who supposedly made an extensive report of the accident. I never was given a copy of this report despite numerous requests. I was confined to my room with pain and bleeding and black and blue knees and missed the rest of my trip.
The staff at the hotel continually brought me towels and ice to help with swelling and bleeding. My clothes, through to my underwear, were soaked with blood and had to be discarded. Thankfully no bones were broken. I waited to have my dental work done when I came as I was returning home in two days and my bill was in excess of $5,000. I filed a claim with Trip Mate and it was denied because I had the work done when I returned and did not see a Dutch dentist.

World Nomads through Trip Mate is a horrible company that is designed not to reimburse your travel delays. Warning. Do not use this fake “travel delay” insurance. I had a travel delay because the plane had a mechanical issue. This is 100% the reason why I got travel insurance was for exactly this type of circumstance. I was denied my claim because the reason was not due to weather or a workers' strike. Filing a claim took many hours because their website is a nightmare. Their customer service is nonexistent. There was a long delay in their decision only to be denied what most would consider to be a very basic claim for a completely legitimate reason.

Then we found out Tripmate.com changed their claim system. We had to re-submit all the files and documentation. Once again no response for weeks. Then we receive an email with payment, and nowhere near what we spent. We called several times, and finally talking to customer service, we were told to send an appeal.
We have been waiting for months now, and still no response. We escalated to a manager who told he didn't know why the appeals team did not respond. He assured us that he would take care of it. He asked to resend all the documentation which we did. Again, phone calls and emails, waiting for weeks. On day 21, I received notification that the claim was approved. 1 week later, I received an eCheck which I deposited in my bank account. No muss, no fuss. T ** wants to know exactly why our American Airlines flight was diverted from London to New York when proof of the diversion was initially provided and the diversion caused the lost hotel. So, WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE T **, (AMERICAN AIRLINES CAUSED A LOSS OF ONE NIGHT IN PARIS)?
The other thing T ** wanted was a specific invoice for the one night hotel in Paris, but it was initially explained, and then again a second time, that this was a package deal which included two nights in Paris and two nights in Zurich - ONLY ONE INVOICE FOR THE ENTIRE TRIP! I complained to Viking Cruises that their recommended travel insurance company is terrible to deal with. Remember John Grisham's novel "The Rainmaker" where the insurance company basically said "DENY, DENY, DENY", well that's Trip Mate.

Viking Cruise Lines recommended TripMate insurance for a recent international trip. They supposedly provided coverage for trip interruptions to include late/cancelled/delayed flight interruptions. Their brochure listed reimbursements up to $3,000 for any of these related activities. Our flight to England was late arriving from the states, causing us to miss a connection to Madrid. When trying to reschedule to another Madrid flight I was told that the remaining flights were all booked and that we would have to remain in England that night and would be rebooked on another flight the following day. This caused us to miss a night in Madrid on our Viking extension which was prepaid. TripMate paid a sum total of $399.60 for two days of misery to include a night sleeping in the Heathrow Airport. Avoid this rip-off company at all costs!

Like so many others, my claim due to having to rebook a flight after a connecting flight from a different airline was missed due to a delay... They say that the plane delay does not qualify under the section that says the insurance covers "travel delay". I'm sure many travel insurance companies are doing this now as they would likely be losing their shirts if they were to actually fulfill their contracts and we have no means of recourse without a time-intensive lawsuit and we're just all out of mental capacity after the brutal travel. This is immoral treatment of paying customers to continuously deny legitimate claims that their documents say should be covered.

Bought this insurance based on Viking River Cruises recommendations on Viking's booking system. Was removed from cruise after 2 days. Numerous calls and emails later they still can't do math in Claims Department. Customer service can but since as the customer, I am not allowed to speak with anyone in claims and apparently not able to send an email that actually goes to a person, we have been unable to get this resolved. When you submit anything to claims, you are given a random person to address that one issue so it appears the claims are constantly being handled by someone new who doesn't know how to read a Viking itinerary, bill, credit card statement or even when they can, do math properly. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!

I purchased travel insurance for a trip to Italy and France primarily because of concerns with the problems the airline industry was experiencing with flight delays and cancellations, lost luggage and potential CV19 complications. My flights to and from the United States were both cancelled and our luggage was lost, problems that I assumed were core to travel insurance protection. While the actual cost of these cancellations and other problems was close to $3000, the ultimate cash claim payments were a fraction of that. If that was not bad enough, the claims administration experience was equally disappointing. I had to make multiple telephone calls to get answers to my questions, was requested to provide additional supporting detail and was given inaccurate email addresses to submit claim appeals. Never again would I or recommend to others that they use Trip Mate!

I purchased travel insurance at the time that I booked a Viking cruise for my husband and myself. Because I had confidence in Viking Cruise Line based on previous journeys, I assumed I could have confidence in travel insurance offered by them - that it would be reliable and high quality. So, without looking at reviews online for Trip Mate, the travel insurance endorsed and offered by Viking, I agreed to purchase the insurance through Viking at the time of booking. I paid $1,438 for the insurance. I have now learned through my experience that Trip Mate is anything but high quality and certainly isn't reliable. Viking should be ashamed to be dealing with and directing their guests to such a terrible company. And when looking online, it seems most everyone that has submitted a review has had a similarly frustrating and impossible time dealing with Trip Mate.
It's been nearly 3 months since I submitted my claim with required documentation and each time I contact Trip Mate customer service I get a run-around. Of course I can never speak to the same person I have spoken with previously so I must start all over explaining my claim. And, of course, there are layers of people between me and the claims processor who is actually reviewing my claim so I'm denied the opportunity to talk with the claims processor. Today the Trip Mate customer service rep said she would send an email to the claims people to expedite the processing of my claim. Apparently they have very antiquated computers at Trip Mate since she told me it would take about 2 weeks for Claims to receive the email. Incidentally, Viking Customer Support representatives are of no help whatsoever in resolving this issue. That only increases the frustration of dealing with their travel insurance partner.

We bought Trip Mate travel insurance through our travel agent before going to Anguilla. The insurance cost nearly 500.00 for the two of us and the coverage was "cash back". Our airline delayed our first flight by 4.5 hours so we missed our connection. We had to sleep in Atlanta for 1 evening and find an urgent care to retest us for COVID. Anguilla still had a time sensitive testing requirement and the extra night in the US caused us to need a new test. The island was great.
Within 3 hours of returning home, I began the looong process of figuring out the Trip Mate insurance. The customer service is the WORST I have ever encountered, it is best described as nonexistent. I filled out the online forms, produced 15 hardcopies of all of our receipts, and mailed a package via certified mail WITH a tracking number. After 30 days and 6 phone calls the result is Trip Mate says, "they never received my certified package". USPS and I both have evidence that they did receive it, but absolutely refuse to say that they have it. So, I started the laborious task of filling out the paperwork again and sending it to them digitally this time. Still nothing. I call every other day, to no avail. In summary, I paid nearly 500 for the insurance, lost almost 800 in extra costs due to a delayed flight, and still to this moment have received NOTHING. If I were to add in my hours of work, level of irritation, cost of certified mail, and an ink cartridge for my printer, my total would be much higher.

According to BBB of Kansas City, MO Trip Mate claims are ‘on hold’ but no time frame as to when the claims will be processed and no rhyme or reason as to the order in which they are processing them. The reason I was given for being ‘on hold’ is they have too many claims. So does every other travel insurance company yet I have received refunds from 2 other companies for the same trip but for different expenses. Trip Mate is not transparent with their process and how to interact with them.

We book a first-class return trip to San Antonio, Texas in January for a return flight in Sept. 2020. I am a dialysis patient and have been for 3 years which hasn't stopped me from traveling until Covid-19 appeared on the scene. In June we decided the virus wasn't under control in the country at all and I didn't feel safe traveling away from home as should I come down with Covid, it is a death sentence for me. As I am sure it is for a lot of their travelers during this pandemic.
After paying for insurance that amounted to $300 + plus $1500 + taxes and fees amounted to almost $2000. We were willing to take vouchers for future travel as we know airlines are hurting as well because of this virus, but TripMate denied that as well. We are now going to have our credit card company have a look and see if they can do something. Needless to say, after submitting every document they requested and they acknowledged receiving them, still denied our claim. This is not a company I can recommend or will ever use again.

Hi, I purchased this insurance for myself and my son for a Europe trip. He worked himself to the bone to pay for his own trip. The school board cancelled the trip and it clearly met the conditions to be fully refunded per the policy. I knew it would take a little bit and was patient but just recently was pleased to find out that Trip Mate was issuing me the full refunds. They told me the amounts and that the cheques were being cut and would be mailed out. All documentation was received in good order and my file online was in payment. NOW they are saying that the underwriter wants to do the claim and handing it to them. This doesn't smell right. The underwriter is asking for more info. Everything was provided though. It's the same thing that happened with the other Canadian Company. I will update this review next week if they don't give me the cheques as they said they would previously.

My husband and I realized back in April that we would not be able to go on our honeymoon in May. NYC where we lived was shut down during the worst of the pandemic. We had purchased 'cancel for any reason' so regardless that Tripmate does not cover pandemics (ridiculous) we should still be getting 75% of our deposit back.
It has now been 4 months and we have made roughly 20 phones calls speaking to different managers. We have been told several things such as "They cut a paper check but realized you wanted an e-check so they voided the paper check and you should be getting it in your email." Then, "They are not emailing it. They are sending another paper check". Once we never received either email OR paper check they said they it "was sent" but they would VOID and send ANOTHER paper check.
Speak to them today and are told they NEVER sent ANY check via email OR paper. So have they been lying to us this entire time? In June it says "Payment in process. Refer to payments tab", there is nothing on that tab. In July it again says the same, and yet nothing in the payment tab. When you look under our names it says "CLOSED - PAID". We have been told it's "in accounting", "in the mail", "being emailed", etc.
At this point I am certain this company is a scam. I am going to contact the state attorney general in Missouri where their offices are allegedly located as well as looking into taking them to small claims court. DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY. They are a scam and a fraud and you will not ever receive any money back even if your claim is approved!!!

We booked a 21 day trip through Vantage Worldwide Travel - Aegean Treasures 2020 with both the 3 day pre (Sophia, Bulgaria) and 3 day (Travina, Albania, Kosovo) post trip excursions in January 2019. The trip was scheduled for May 1 to May 21, 2020. The total cost of the trip was $16,490 less a $1,826 travel credit - net cost $14,664.
Along with the booking we purchased the Trip Mate, Inc. CANCEL FOR ANY REASON TRIP INSURANCE through Vantage World Travel at Vantage’s recommendation. We took the more expensive CANCEL FOR ANY REASON TRIP INSURANCE ($1,798) with the understanding that should my wife’s cancer treatment regimen or health conditions change, we would get a refund of our fares. My wife’s health conditions and treatment regimen did indeed change in early February 2020. As of early March 2020 she is once again on bi-weekly intravenous chemotherapy treatments.
After hearing her news, and before the Covid-19 Pandemic was announced, we decided it would be best to cancel the trip. We started the claims process on March 11, 2020, the necessary documentation, including Doctor's letters, were received by Trip Mate, Inc on or before March 23, 2020. The claim was approved by Trip Mate, Inc. on May 12, 2020 and is shown in the Claim Status page as - “payment in process - refer to payments tab”. There is nothing under the payment tab on the website. After five (5) phone calls to customer service, a letter to the CEOs of both Vantage and Trip Mate, as of August 8, 2020, we have received nothing but a run-around from Trip Mate, Inc. It is clear that the customer service representatives have been given a script with responses they can use to deflect customer’s inquiries.
The excuses provided are that Trip Mate, Inc. is paying all the small claims first and since ours is a large claim it is still in process (?); that Vantage Worldwide Travel had not yet delivered the funds to pay this claim to Trip Mate, Inc (What about insurance company reserves ???); that I would need to talk to a supervisor but they are all in a meeting and that I would get a call within 24-48 hours from a supervisor; that the claim payment is in accounting and being processed as we speak (?); that if I send an email to a supervisor (yesterday) I would get an email response when she had time - I did get an automated “no-reply email” saying that I would get an email within the next 30 days. Another deflection via automated email!
We suspect that Trip Mate, Inc. will never issue a payment to us. That they will keep the premium payment and the $10,783.50 that they owe us. Is this fraud?!?! Theft?!?! In my mind’s eye, they really owe us a total of $12,591.50 (the $10,783.50 plus the premium of $1,798). Someone/some agency needs to investigate this company for fraud! I must admit that the Customer Service Representatives are very good at what they do - reading from a script, faking a 2-5 minute discussion with a supervisor and doing their best to deflect customers' inquiries. One rep admitted she had worked there for 11 years - she was the “best” - really!
After reading reviews on various sites I realize that Trip Mate, Inc. must be (as one review said) a Phantom Organization. I believe they have no intention of resolving this claim by issuing check(s) to us. After this experience, we will never again book a trip with Vantage Worldwide Travel and will never consider insuring any trip through Trip Mate, Inc. The one star rating is so that my review would be posted.

I purchased insurance through ONE TRAVEL for our air flights to get to our cruise port. 2020 struck and everything shut down, including our cruise, etc. The airlines issued a credit with a time frame and I then attempted to get my money back for the trip insurance. They denied the claim (first without saying anything simply posting on web site that a misc mail was sent - which of course I never received). Once I wrote to them, I received an answer back along with the denial letter...because their clause allows only for 10 days after purchase for you to get your money back, they had to deny (they had copies showing it was not by OUR choice).
If I would have known some 10 months before the trip that Covid would come around, I darned well would not have booked anything let alone this fly by night insurance. No more with them...ever. Reading here this is their customary path of action. Personally, I think this reflects badly on One Travel and their subsidiaries. And they should review with whom THEY do business with. DO NOT BUY THIS TRIP INSURANCE AS IT APPEARS THAT TRIP MATE WILL NOT PAY OUT NO MATTER WHAT IF IT'S OVER 10 DAYS....oh yes and their appeal email...."not a monitored box" ...

I'll keep this short-ish. This is regarding claim #** and claim #**. I've seen TripMate respond to these reviews more than they have actually replied to claims, so maybe something will come out of this. We had to cancel our trip a day before we had to leave in March 2020 as the country we were to visit had closed off its borders and revoked our visas (obviously due to COVID-19). We then submitted all the paperwork and two months later, our claimed was denied due to us never being "sick". They did not even read our claim as that was a very generic response that they obviously sent to everyone....not sure why it took 2 months for that. It could have taken 2 seconds and it was obviously an automatically generated email. We never claimed that we were sick from COVID or had fear of travelling....none of that. We would have gone on our trip if India didn't shut down their borders to the rest of the world.
We then filed an appeal and said that we never mentioned that we were sick and that they should ACTUALLY read our claim. Why bother submitting documents if nobody is going to read them???? Fast forward to today July 30th...practically August now and NOTHING - not a word. I have called multiple times and they keep saying "we're working on it". I am expecting another denial response soon with another automatically generated email. This is a total scam.

The cancellation of our trip was in no way our fault, but this company used the pandemic as a way to deny our claim. Never use this company. They will not pay any claim.

I booked a trip in mid-2019 for a wedding in March 2020. Once the Covid pandemic came around, the airline cancelled my flight. And the resort closed...they completely shut down. I filed my claim with Trip Mate because there was no way to take the trip. Again, the airlines cancelled my flight. And the resort completely closed down. Trip Mate says that this is NOT covered and would not honor a full refund. How is this not covered. Even if I wanted to take my trip, I couldn't. I've called a number of time...never an answer. I've emailed a number of time...never a reply. Just a mailed letter saying not covered and that I can take it up with the Better Business Bureau if I wanted to. DO NOT BUY THIS POS COVERAGE. IT'S A SCAM. THE COMPANY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN.

This is literally the worst service I’ve ever experienced. I’ve been given the runaround since January. I provided all necessary documentation (receipt of payment for alternate flight and written proof from airline of delay) and my information still hasn’t been inputted into their system nor have I received a refund. It’s been five months. I’ve contacted Trip Mate via email four times and still nothing has been done. My situation has nothing to do with the Coronavirus either. My Claim # is **.
On January 4, 2020, I had a 10 am flight from Newark Liberty Airport to Shanghai-Pu Dong. The flight didn't depart at 10 AM. We sat on the tarmac for almost an hour. This caused me to arrive late. The flight was supposed to arrive at 2:05 PM however, it didn't land until 3:15 PM. This caused me to miss my connecting flight to Seoul Incheon at 4:25 PM. I had work the next day and in order to leave Shanghai the same day I had to purchase a ticket with another airline for ($556.84).

According to the website (absolutely no communication from the company) my claim was denied and a travel certificate printed. Have absolutely no idea what the travel certificate involves, but I don't want it. Sent a letter to the CEO and VP Client Relations no response. When a I printed out my insurance policy there was a 5 pages document concerning a grievance system with United States Insurance Company. Updated on 07/11/2020: Finally, after 4 months of frustration, perpetual on hold phone calls, and the few times a human answered the phone getting no explanations about delays in payment and refusal to let me speak to anyone in their claims area, we did receive checks in payment of our claim on our ‘Cancel for any reason’ policy. Never again! I’m surprised that Viking River Cruises recommended and sold a product from this company. (See my earlier review 5/21/20 for more detail.)
Original review: More than two months ago we started a claim when I had to cancel a Viking river cruise due to health issues. Jumped through all the Trip Mate hoops and filed an appeal based on claim denial by TripMate on the erroneous grounds that Viking had issued trip vouchers. Have heard absolutely nothing from Trip Mate since. Asked Viking to intervene but even Viking customer service can’t get in contact with Trip Mate. While Trip Mate may in fact be busy, rather than hire help to answer the phone, or to even develop a system where Trip Mate would call you back, they have chosen to place the phone(s) on apparent perpetual hold, playing a looped recording of scratchy hold music. This is totally unacceptable behavior on Trip Mate’s part. Viking had recommended them, and it is reflecting very poorly on Viking.

Due to the current health pandemic, travel for our wedding was cancelled. Sandals Resort refunded our room deposits but the insurance that was part of our reservation has been refused to be returned. The company that Sandals chooses to work with is Trip Mate. From the day our plans were cancelled we tried to reach out to Trip Mate, after waiting for 2 days we finally received a call back from a representative who works for Trip Mate. After providing the information requested for all 10 of our reservations (Travelers names, Policy Number, Dates of Travel and Date Travel insurance was purchased) I was told we would hear back within 2-3 weeks, that never happened. I tried to reach out to them via phone to no response, I reached out via email to no reply, finally I tried reaching them on Facebook Messenger and the only response I was given was they were trying to get a response from their Customer Service team.
In checking back with them over the past 2 weeks, now they do not reply at all. I think it is disgusting that a company can make profits off people who had absolutely no option in having to cancel their plans. During a time when MILLIONS of people have been laid off or lost their positions altogether this company has chosen to basically laugh at those people and chooses to keep their money. I would suggest before booking any vacation, see what insurance your credit card company has 1st, you may not need the "coverage" this scam of a company promises to offer.

Do NOT buy travel Insurance from Trip Mate or through CheapOair either. I am left with such disgust dealing with them both. I am a senior citizen stuck in Canada with health issues. My flight got cancelled because of COVID. Many airlines cancelled flights as transit cities closed their borders. Like me, there are many people also caught in this global mess. I am disgusted and shocked by Tripmate's non-interest.
After many calls, some attempts were 30+ minutes on hold, all failed to get an answer. Even emails got ignored. I finally realised they were not going to answer. They are nothing more than scammers. Sure, they are ready to take your money when you book flights but definitely not there to help you when you need it. I have a legitimate claim for being stuck here as my trip was interrupted, I need help. I sympathize with the overwhelming load they have at this time but I still need help from them. When will the authorities step in to make things right for all the innocent people on this page? My Dr encourages me to keep pursuing this as it's unfair for a senior citizen to be burdened with additional expenses. Please tell me, how someone like me can get any assistance?

Good Morning - I cannot get through to your company via the phone. You don't call people back when I was able to leave a message. You can no longer leave a message. Your automated system hangs up on you after being on hold for 25-30 minutes. You don't post all calls or updates to your website for claim status. I have asked to speak to a supervisor over a week ago and no response. And now my claim has been denied with no explanation.
I will filling a complaint with the BBB today and will also be contacting your state representative on how you conduct business. I will never use your service when traveling again and I will be posting on social media the ordeal that I have been through with your company to let other future customers know what kind of organization you are.
When the people put their trust in your hands and you profit off them during a time like this - I feel that the public should know how you have handled this process. During uncertain times a company to profit off their customers is despicable. I have called several times per week if not per day since I filed this claim and sent over a dozen emails and still no response from your company.

I find your “Yes We Care” logo disingenuous. How could a caring company encourage airline travel for a trip that included 4 different flights on March 27th? There is no doubt that a strain of this virus has been in the United States since at least December of 2019. I am a registered nurse and had a rash of patients with respiratory issues and low grade fever during this time. All tested negative for flu and pneumonia. That is why it is called COVID 19. Do you think I would be a “caring” healthcare worker if I exposed myself to four planes full of people in late March? You may keep my airfare. I give it gladly. If you really care, I would like a return of my insurance fee.

Edit 5/18/20: Trip Mate has finished with my claim and have sent notice 5/14/20 that they have approved the claim and will be sending an 'echeck'. I have zero doubt that the only reason I got attention and my claim worked on was because I posted 5-6 negative reviews including here on TrustPilot. The amount of the reimbursement is yet to be known and isn't in my login on their site yet. It should be around $4400, can't remember the exact amount at the moment. Our reason for cancelling was well within the reasons for and should be 100% covered minus a few fees. I'll update when amount is known.
Edit 5/11/20: Correct, a letter was sent on 03/11/20 to the wrong address which were have no idea how they had. The treating physician doc was sent to trip mate the first time almost a month ago, about April 15th. This is perfect example; last reply from trip mate is 2 months behind to the day!

To all the consumers who are having to deal with Trip Mate, I feel your frustration and absolute disgust with this alleged travel insurance company. It is a crime that Trip Mate will not refund for canceled trips due to COVID19. Listed under the General Exclusions as reasons why "benefits are not payable for any loss due to, arising or resulting from" is a list of 21 items not covered. PANDEMIC is not one of them.
With the pandemic warnings and actions taken by the World Health Organization, Homeland Security, United Airlines, AAA (who canceled the tour), and a 14-day quarantine when arriving in Hawaii how am I expected to take this trip? In addition, I am over 60 years of age who is immunosuppressed. So, I am supposed to risk my life to go on a trip to Hawaii which officials are advising me not to take. I guess it is unreasonable to expect to receive the services that I paid or a refund when I do not receive those services based on the travel insurance policy I purchased from Trip Mate.
TRIP MATE - Have you been hiding under a rock? Has your CEO been watching or reading the news? Have you looked outside your corporate offices and seen the results of quarantining from this disease? Do you realize that you are taking advantage of people during a pandemic for your bottom line in profits? Do you expect that people will use your company in the future and/or lie down and take this crap from Trip Mate?
TRIP MATE - I am not interested in your canned messages. I have already asked to speak with a supervisor on two occasions. If there was a way to give a 0, I would without hesitation! We had a trip booked with Sandals in Oct 2019. My husband lost his job, where he had been for 10+ years 3 days before we were suppose to leave. Got the required paperwork in the day we cancelled the trip - Oct 23rd, 2019. 30 day processing/wait - no problem. Between than and now, it has been a ridiculous cluster of them not recording information correctly and upwards of 50 phone calls to them to get answers.
When you make a call, it will take several minutes to get thru prompts to be on hold - sometimes up to an hour and than the call gets dropped. Eventually after a lengthy hold, a message comes on to tell you to leave your phone number and they will call you back...sure. If you are lucky enough to talk to someone, they won't have any answers and will have to check with "someone else" - I think "someone else" is a Tripmate enigma. We finally did get approval on refund - we now wait for the check to be written, approved and mailed. If it wasn't for all of our persistence, I do not believe it would have gotten approved. Again, several phone calls because the check will get written on this date, approved on this date and mailed on these dates...lol. This has been going on since the beginning of Feb. Yup, no one knows why it wasn't written, approved or mailed but, we only mail one day a week - what? Still no answers or check!
Tripmate representative's response to call this morning, "I don't know why, I need to email a supervisor, and will email or call you when I get an answer." Told her that I wanted a phone call from a supervisor - well that will take 24-48 hours. Nope, unacceptable! With how long this has been going on, I want a call yet today, and preferably yet this morning. She told me that there was no supervisor there for me to talk to and that they had to follow protocol.
I told her I know it's not her fault but, she is who I have been handcuffed into talking to. Said, after looking at all the reviews and most of them being a 1 (Yelp - 172 reviews - 145 ratings of 1) your job can't be very fun. She said it is not fun. She further said, it's not her people are upset with but the company, Tripmate! At that point, I feel for her. Time for a new job.
We are 132 days out from when we cancelled. Have lost many hours of our day as well as travel agent losing hours in her day, chasing this thing down. As I have said to others with poor customer service, if I treated my customers the way I have been treated or handle the situation the way they have, I would not have any business. Where has customer service disappeared to and WHY? Bottom line - Tripmate sucks, has horrible customer service, can not offer reliable travel insurance and makes up excuse after excuse. If you don't believe me - google - Tripmate reviews! It isn't just on Yelp, but all sites and reviews! Don't say I didn't warn you! Happy travels.

I have yet to speak to an actual person. The hold time appears to be several hours. I would never buy another policy from this provider.

Avoid at any costs!!! Scam and fraud all I can say. Don’t waste your money. They will find any excuse not to give you a refund. My trip was insured, my baggage was insured. I arrived to the destination. My baggage was delayed as it wasn’t transferred from overseas by the airline. Did not have my bags for 2 days. Insurance refused to give refund explaining that my trip was over when I landed...well... Don’t waste your money. They won’t refund you anything!
