Fraud. Go to a reputable company. I complied with the terms in all ways, yet they refuse to honor my claim. I had two physicians send letters supporting my claim. They then indicated the refusal was due to a preexisting condition from 2017 (arthritis) and refused to pay despite clear evidence that the policy should cover. This policy was part of a booking at the Atlantis in the Bahamas. They back this fraud, so I would never go there as well. I've complained to the US consumer protection and state insurance commissioners.

Absolute horrible review. We secured camp insurance for my daughter, who had to go to the hospital then the camp refused to take her back because of her medical issues. The insurance wouldn't cover a dime of treatment, despite her being brought to the hospital and treated, which should be covered under the plan.

We were scheduled for a Christmas cruise on the Danube costing $14.000. Because of airport closures, an aborted landing to miss another plane on the runway, airline staffing issues and we missed the flight. We had already been in route for 13 hours and to continue to get to the cruise, we would have to wait another 26 hours missing half of the cruise. We were devastated to find out that TripMate will only reimburse us about $500 apiece with no description whatsoever on how they adjudicated the claim.

My claim was denied after experiencing a spontaneous patellar tendon rupture. With all documents provided from the resort physician and the ER, Trip Mate made an assumption I was intoxicated and fell. The documents showed I was not intoxicated, and this injury typically occurs without trauma. I will be securing an attorney as I'm sure I'm not the first person they've done this to.

Updated Response: Hello Julia! We are pleased to share that you claim has since been resolved, and one of our dedicated claim agents has contacted you with the details.

Do not use Trip Mate, they find many excuses to not reimburse. We got sick with COVID towards end of our cruise and notified the cruise and canceled our extension trip after the cruise. Viking said to contact TripMate, We wrote many, many times. Every time there was a new excuse asking for more documents, and after 6 months, they are denying our claim.

Re: Overseas Adventure Tour (OAT) trip to Scotland and Ireland July 13-August 10, 2025. Our flight was cancelled over 12 hours (overnight). We booked a hotel room to get to the airport for 5:20am boarding. Our room was not paid for because our residence is (barely) less than 50 miles from the airport (even though they advertise that benefits are paid up to $400 per day for lodging and meals when you are delayed 12 consecutive hours or more).
We missed Day 2 completely and Day 3 we arrived after the activity we paid for was finished, and breakfast. We were told that they could not figure out what the breakfast and activity were worth so we did not get paid for either. Day 2 was reimbursed figuring the total cost of our trip, minus the Frequent Traveler credit we earned from a trip with OAT the prior year and the trip discount "sale". The day we missed was an optional PreTrip extension we took and we feel the Frequent Traveler credit should apply towards the Base Adventure and not Extension. We also wonder what worth the Frequent Traveler is if they take it away from you. It took over a month to receive any compensation. We then filed an appeal and the communication was horrible. There was never anyone to talk to and when you did they all told you a different story. I will certainly be buying insurance from another source and would never recommend TripMate.

We bought Trip Mate travel insurance for my husband's 50th birthday trip to Jamaica in December 2025. Hurricane Melissa devastated the resort so we contacted Sandals. They advised us to file a claim with Trip Mate. After the run-around with Trip Mate and Sandals, who each blamed the other, Trip Mate sent us travel vouchers. Now, keep in mind this was a $9,000.00 vacation that was paid in full. We worked overtime to pay for this trip and they never told us we would get travel vouchers until my husband called today for an update. Buyers beware!!! I would give zero stars if it was an option.

This company is either a scam or run by soulless robots. I booked a trip to go from NY to Florida to see my dad who went into the hospital after a fall. He got sicker and they transferred him to hospice. He was given 2 weeks to 3 months to live. Sadly, he took a turn for the worse and died the night I booked the trip. I’m also going through cancer treatment and after a month of submitting all the documents they requested, I was denied a refund. My father died too soon after booking. They will find any excuse to deny you, a very disappointing experience.

We apologize for not meeting your expectations, Catherine. While the Trip Cancellation coverage included in the plan you purchased can typically provide coverage if you are forced to cancel your trip due to the unforeseen sickness or injury, your coverage must be in place before the sickness first commences or takes an unforeseen worsening in order for the plan to provide coverage. Trip Mate is the insurance that is covering our high school aged daughter’s travel. When we were signing up, the communication was that it could be cancelled for essentially any reason (within reason) due to the nature of the coverage, it being for high schoolers, etc. We found out we would no longer be able to have our child attend her trip (which doesn’t even occur for a year yet), due to having to move out of state. They refused citing that she wasn’t hospitalized, or some crazy thing. Again I recognize we didn’t read the fine print well enough, we were blinded by the claims they would be covering for basically anything, which is why we purchased.
I write this review to tell everyone that do not use this company. They are all about the money. They could easily refund the small amount knowing the trip isn’t for a year yet. They see dollar signs, they have no human element, and they deny, confuse, delay, and deny you on appeal. Do not trust them. You’re better off just avoiding the fee and doing it on your own. Trust me.

I purchased travel insurance through TripMate for my daughter’s school trip, which we had to cancel because she is no longer a student and was no longer allowed to attend. We submitted everything they asked for, and it’s been months now with no resolution. Every time I contact them, I’m told the refund is “processing” or “on the way” — but it never actually comes. We’re out both the trip and the money, and it feels like we’re being strung along with empty promises. This has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. Travel insurance is supposed to provide peace of mind — not make a stressful situation worse. I would not recommend TripMate to anyone.

Submitted a claim on 6/23 for a missed connection due to flight delay. Had to call Trip Mate 3 weeks after submitting the claim form to check on the status. Received email noticed a day later saying they actually did receive the documents. 1 week later, received another request from Trip Mate for more documents, including a totally unrelated outgoing flight, submitted the documents on the same day. Had to call Trip Mate again 2 weeks later to see if the documents were received. Received email the same day saying receipt of documents. Bottom line is, customers have to follow up every step of the way otherwise nothing will get processed. It has been at least 6 weeks since I submitted my claim and I have yet to receive any determination from Trip Mate and that is after the agent told me during the 2nd call that he would request an “expedited” process for me.

Updated on 07/06/2025: As before, TripMate isn't offering a reasonable response. This is my reply to the company: "This information wasn't made clear to us at our time of purchase. What people need to be aware of is that the voucher is only good for one year, only at a Sandals/Beaches resort, and non transferable. The voucher is of no use to us."
Original Review: If I could grant zero stars to TripMate I would. Three years ago, while on a Sandals Vacation, we booked a future trip for November 2025. At that time, we elected to purchase the TripMate Travel Insurance expressly because it had the stated option, Cancel for Any Reason. We figured that if anything should happen, we'd at least get our Sandals deposit back ($250), paying a total of $478 for the policy and our deposit. Fast forward to Spring of 2025, we realized that due to financial hardships, we would have to cancel our vacation.
That's when the rigmarole began. After canceling through Sandals, I called TripMate to recover our $250 deposit. Multiple emails and phone calls ensued, with TripMate requiring extensive documentation. I got the impression that each representative I spoke with was trying their best to avoid taking ownership. I got, "you can't cancel unless it's for a legitimate reason." Me, "I have the cancel for any reason policy." TripMate, "What is the policy number? ... We will need additional documentation," etc.
I waited weeks for TripMate to render a 'judgement.' When we finally received a formal letter from TripMate, it was in the form of two travel certificates, one each my husband and I, $125 each, total $250 in a Unique Vacations (Sandals) travel certificate valid for one year only at Sandals. Because of financial hardship, booking another expensive vacation wasn't possible now, let alone in a year. So, back on the phone I went, calling TripMate saying that we cannot use these vouchers, we prefer the refund by check. At the very least, we were willing to transfer the $250 to some friends of ours. TripMate said I needed to contact Sandals. Sandals said that no, TripMate was the issuing insurance. Back to Sandals. Back to TripMate. You see the trend?
Nothing has been resolved. This company is a scam and will do everything that they can to avoid reimbursement. On a note, my husband and I have purchased travel insurance many times, once we had to make a claim. We used a legitimate company. TripMate is not.

Thank you for your review, Susan! Unfortunately, your claim filed did not meet the requirements of a covered claim; therefore, per the terms of your coverage, the Cancel for Any Reason benefit is provided in the form of vouchers for future travel credit. If you have additional information to provide, you can provide an appeal in writing to our office. One of our dedicated customer service team members will reach out shortly to provide further clarification.

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with Trip Mate's travel insurance service. This was my first time using their company, and it will certainly be my last. I filed a claim almost a month and a half ago, and to date, I have received absolutely no meaningful updates. Every time I call for information, the representatives simply repeat the same details available on their website. This is an unbelievable lack of customer service. I have dealt with various insurance companies in the past, and I have never encountered such lengthy delays or a complete absence of transparent communication when processing a legitimate claim.
Our flight had to be rescheduled because we were unexpectedly obligated to cancel due to an exposure to a communicable airborne infectious disease. This was a situation entirely beyond our control, yet Trip Mate seems to be "playing games" and taking an inordinate amount of time to fulfill the reimbursement of funds. When they offer coverage, they expect immediate payment; it is incredibly frustrating and disheartening that they are now delaying our claim, especially since we are counting on that money for our rescheduled vacation. Please be aware of this company if you are planning to obtain coverage for your trip. Based on my experience, I strongly advise against purchasing any products from this vendor. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with their services.

I check into the claim they request more information or documents, which I have provided to them on every request, yet they continue to start over the process every time more information is requested. Sarah from Crystal Lake, IL. I suffered a tibial plateau fracture in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on my first evening of my Odysseys Unlimited Patagonia tour. I had to have emergency surgery two days later. Despite needing emergency help, we got nothing from our TripMate insurance people. They did not reply to numerous phone calls and messages, finally telling us that they needed a “Fit to Fly” form filled out before they would do anything. The doctors would not release me as “Fit to Fly” until fifteen days later. We had to move to a hotel until that time.
Submitting more than 100 pages of documentation to TripMate, we have yet to satisfy what they are seeking. They close our file repeatedly, saying that we have not sent the required documentation but never tell us specifically what they need. We can never get direct contact with the claims people to get clarity. The customer service people we get on phone calls do not know anything and the online status reports are full of dates and no information. The claims examiner did not read our documentation correctly and sent us a check for thousands of dollars less than we should receive.
Our appeals have taken forever to be uploaded and still nothing in response. It appears that TripMate wants to wear us out and not pay what they owe us. I cannot understand why Odysseys Unlimited would partner with such an organization. They are frustrating and unresponsive. The contractual material promises great things, but, at this point, they totally have not delivered.

Our American Airlines flight from Lafayette, La to Dallas, Tx on 12/10/2024 was delayed and our connecting flight from Dallas Tx to Burbank Ca was missed, so we were put on another AA flight and bumped down from business class to coach and rerouted to LAX. We had to take a bus and an Uber to get back home, many hours later. I called American the following day and was told we would be refunded the price difference from business to coach...but not to me. The refund would go to the credit card that booked the flight. I used a AAA travel agent to book the flight, who in turn used a different travel agency to charge the flight on their credit card. I agreed on travel insurance, because of the winter weather, and have used TripMate in the past. I paid AAA who in turn paid the travel agency who in turn paid American. I called AAA, the Travel Agency, American Airlines and Trip Mate to find out where my money was.
American refunded the travel agency on 12/14/2024 (they sent me a confirmation email, but strangely claimed that they could NOT tell me the amount). The travel agency said they couldn't talk to me, only the booking agent at AAA. I called TripMate who emailed me the refund forms, which I filled out on 1/3/2025. They sent me an email saying they received the forms 1/7/2025. Got a link for my claim 1/29/2025. Got a letter that they needed "additional information" on 2/4/2025. Nothing specific, so I filled it out and sent it in with ALL THE RECEIPTS once again.
That's when I read their reviews about how terrible TripMate is. Then 2/12/2025 my AAA travel agent said that TripMate will issue a price difference of $265.00 per person for the business class downgrade from Dallas to LAX. And on 2/18/2025, I got a refund. No proof from TripMate on what was actually sent from American Airlines. What a disappointment and what terrible customer service. I will never use TripMate again.

Buyer beware of Trip Mate Insurance. I'm not sure why Viking Cruises partners with Trip Mate. I would encourage anyone considering Trip Mate for travel insurance to run in the other direction. I booked a Viking Cruise in June of 2023. The Viking rep strongly encouraged me to purchase "their insurance" for the cruise which I did as I believed Viking to be a reputable business. The cruise was booked for December 2025. The cost of the insurance was $2985.00. I had to pay Viking in full for the cruise by August 31st, 2023. I had to cancel the cruise in November 2024 due to a job change which is a covered reason for cancellation per Trip Mate Terms and Conditions.
I canceled the cruise more than a year before the cruise was scheduled to start. Viking indicated I should receive a partial refund from Trip Mate for $200 of the $2985.00 I paid them for insurance. I filed a claim with Trip Mate and provided all required documentation. Trip Mate will not refund the $200.00 and instead sent me a worthless $200 voucher for another Viking cruise. I will never travel with Viking after this experience. When I reached out to Viking for assistance, they basically pointed me back to Trip Mate telling me they have nothing to do with Trip Mate. I asked to speak to someone at Trip Mate claims dept. I was told their Claims dept. will not speak to customers.
The Trip Mate rep told me I was "lucky Viking refunded me the full amount for the cruise." This doesn't change the fact that I'm out $2985.00 from Trip Mate. They refused to give me the $200.00 refund that is due me under their Terms and Conditions. I've read multiple complaints online about this company. They have been sued by customers for failing to pay out claims. Save yourself the grief and purchase travel insurance from a company like Allianz.
