Worse company to rent a car, stay away, do not rent with this people. They will overcharge, take a detail video of the vehicle or they will charge you even the ones they do while parking, my package had rental car insurance, they said it didn't show up in their system and charge me 624$ extra for that crappy vehicle they tell you has to be hybrid. If is not hybrid that is not accepted to circulate in the casco histórico, they charge you a fee just to force you to use hybrid. Horrible cars. Beeping on every corner, safety issues concern. Overall it was a very bad experience with this rental car company. They had cameras, I dropped off the car at 3:40am, come and said it was at 7:54am, trying to charge more for the car to be there till they open. Ridiculous customer service, all a scam. Be careful. They are very discriminative to tourist

Mistake #1 booked Eurocar. The car was ok, reasonably priced, but all scratched and dinged up… over a dozen different areas… They require you to do your own inspection and to call to ensure that they have catalogued all the issues. So, I took a video of the whole car. When we returned it, the inspector made a bee line for a spot that can only be seen from about 6 inches from the ground, my video was blurry and didn’t clearly capture this spot, the guy says sign here, I say ‘no, it says “one new damage”, I don’t agree’… he leads me to believe that if I sign they will fix everything and the office, just show them the video (mistake#2 I signed). The office guy says that charging customers for dings is a revenue stream for them… at least he was honest… DON'T USE EUROPCAR.

If you have a lot of extra time, don’t care about customer service, or don’t mind driving a dirty car, EuropCar/Fox Rent A Car in Orlando might be the company for you. Otherwise, avoid them at all costs. The location is not at the Orlando Airport — it’s a 15-minute shuttle ride away, which makes pick-up and return extremely inconvenient. For my 7 a.m. flight, I had to leave more than an hour earlier than usual just to return the car and wait for the shuttle back to the airport.

The staff was unhelpful and constantly blamed “corporate” for their poor practices instead of providing good service. I was overcharged for insurance that I explicitly declined, and I was pressured into purchasing a $28 toll package even though I was only in town for two days and went through four tolls (each $1–$2).

They also held a deposit on my credit card and returned only half of it, claiming it was due to “insurance” I never agreed to.

To make matters worse, the car was dirty — the steering wheel, dashboard, and handles hadn’t been wiped down. When I asked for a clean car, the desk staff told me, “We don’t have thoroughly cleaned cars.” I had to disinfect it myself. They don’t inspect cars before departure — customers are expected to write down any existing damage and hand it in before leaving. The lot attendant even told me, “Every customer leaves here angry.” He was right. This was, without question, the worst rental car experience I’ve ever had. I’ve used Thrifty and Dollar Rental car in Orlando on previous trips and they weren’t perfect but they were far better and more convenient than EuropCar/Fox Rent A Car. I’ll never rent from EuropCar/Fox Rent A Car again and strongly recommend others avoid this company.

I rented a car from Europcar during my vacation in May 2025 and paid for it entirely with Chase points. After returning the vehicle, I was suddenly charged $755 with no clear explanation. I eventually received an invoice for that charge — but now, three months later, Europcar is trying to bill me for another $352.37 without sending me any email, letter, or call. They’ve had the car in their possession for months and are just now adding new charges with no communication or proof. This feels like a complete scam. I’ve reached out multiple times and have gotten no response or help. I’ve been incorrectly charged over $1,000 total, and Europcar has made no effort to justify or explain these charges. I would strongly warn anyone against renting from Europcar — their billing practices are deceptive, and their customer service is nonexistent.

Booked a 24 day rental from London airport with (Keddy) Europcar through economybookings.com of Riga, Latvia. I was mindful of all the bad reviews including difficulty getting refunds when economybookings bills the customer immediately. At Europcar's check in I was offered opportunity to upgrade as lots of automatic gear, hybrids (more economical), with GPS were available - as if there was no extra charge. When I pressed I was advised that there would be a charge of more than 30GBP per day.

I was then on receiving end of the insurance hard sell - using the scare tactic that I could be on hook for maximum 100k. I asserted repeatedly that I had cover through my US visa card and break down coverage too through AAA. At the end of all this the check-in woman went off duty leaving my credit card in their car reader - facing customer seating area.

Returning car. John went straight to front tires and was very quick to highlight small gouges on the upper wall of each. He then demanded timestamped photos of these to prove that we were not responsible. We had several pictures of the bodywork, which had scuffs and minor scratches in numerous places but none of tires. John then insisted that this was our fault and asked me to sign a return form. I refused.

Nine days later Europcar email insisting on my liability. I wrote back demanding that they produce photographs themselves to prove undamaged tires before our rental. They ignored this request. I have alerted my US credit card of their likely attempt to bill me and will dispute any attempts to take money from this account. Given my experience and so very many well written and completely plausible others - I would infer that this company deliberately practices price gouging in every aspect of its customer service to augment revenues. It is obviously unethical, and time consuming and stressful for those who should be enjoying their holiday experience.

I do think it is appropriate that BVLRA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) among others should properly investigate this company's dubious business practice. It is very clear to me that they produce minimal and badly described damage reports for customers picking up, then go above and beyond to find damage on return and bully customers into accepting liability or take without consent from their deposits. This IS disgraceful.

I made the reservation about two months prior to my arrival. When I arrived in Dusseldorf Germany, they didn't have the car I reserved. They offered me another car which was an upgrade to what I reserved. My thinking was, because they did not have the vehicle I reserved, the upgrade was given at the same price.

We go the rental car garage and locate the car, loaded up the luggage and did a quick walk around and look for any visible damage. There was no one from Europcar in the garage to confirm the car was free of damage. Off we go, ten days of a European road trip Great!! Everyone was happy and we are having a good time. A few days into our vacation I get a notification of a charge from Europcar and the amount was doubled from the original reservation. I didn't want to deal with it while on vacation and decided to do so when back at the airport.

We pulled in the car return, unloaded our luggage and waited for the attendant. As we waited, I watch the attendant inspecting the car in front of us and was quite surprised how detailed the return process was. I thought it was strange to have this level of inspection upon return and no inspection when you pick the car up.

When the attendant came to us, he the took the keys, checked the fuel, and did a walk around. Afterwards, he started feeling around the bottom of the car. He gets to the passenger side of the car and finds some scratches on the very bottom of the fender. I could feel them but could not see them. I explained to him, we did not damage the car and asked why someone did not inspect the car with us during pick up. I was advised to ask someone at the counter. He took pictures, and fill out some forms on their computer and then gave me the damage report and asked me to sign. Which i refused. This took longer than expected so we did not have the time to talk with the people at the front desk. Yesterday, I get a letter from Europcar containing an invoice for 1804.00 EUR which I will fight.

To make a long story short, I felt like this was a set up and they knew this vehicle had prior damage. I will never rent from Europcar again and would not recommend renting a vehicle from this company. My reservation was for 700.00 EUR and they are trying to collect an additional 2500.00 EUR from unsuspecting renters!! You've been warned :-(

So we had to manually keep track of mileage. Drop off was fine and we turned it in with a full tank. 3 months later there is a random charge for $50 from them. Scammers. Would not recommend.

I booked a car rental at CDG airport through Expedia. At the counter, the Europcar checking agent told me they didn't have a car ready for me, but suggested I paid for an upgrade and get a car immediately. After I refused, I was offered a free upgrade, but the car would be available only after a wait (which turned out to be 30 minutes). After retrieving the car, I found out that the software was in Russian, and there was no one at the pick up location to help me change the language....

Fast forward to the car return: I was charged for a one way and a full tank of case (total slightly over $350, around 50% of the rental cost), although I returned the car in the same location and the tank was full. I used Europcar's online form to context these charges 3 separate times. I NEVER received an answer from them, and I only got my money back after contesting the charges through my credit card.

We were fully insured, filled the tank etc, no damage, when we disputed the charge they said it was for an extra driver although we had already been charged for an extra driver even though we explained that there would be only one driver. They then sent an e-mail saying the contract was to do with Bulgaria although we complained to head office. What a rip off, even though we did everything right i.e. fully comprehensively insurance they still found a way to steal money. Not to be trusted, would not use them again. I know it’s only $96 but we paid $1700 for 10 days. They didn’t need to do a rip off. Absolutely disgusting.

When we arrived at their counter at Paris CDG airport, we were told that the car was "a Chinese car that got poor gas mileage" and that we would need to wait for an hour to pickup the reserved vehicle. Our other option was to rent a Mercedes that was available immediately but had small damage on the door. We were quoted a big price and initially said no thanks.

The desk agent then said he would check on a discount for us. He returned and said 950 euros (around 250 euros more than our reservation). We did not like this, but said okay. When the documents were produced for signature, a large amount was there (around 2000 euros). I said that I didn't want to sign at that rate and was told "no worries, that's just due to a 1000 euro security deposit that will be returned". We would never have rented a car for 2000 Euros!!! When I got to the car, it was an SUV with plenty of space. He also pressured me into buying “roadside assistance.” I had purchased it when I booked the rental, and when I showed him that, he said it wasn’t “theirs” and should pay again. Then he tried to pressure me into buying “insurance” (which it really isn’t - it’s a waiver that they can’t charge you if the car is damaged or stolen.) when I explained that this was covered by my credit card, he got angry and almost would not let me rent the car! A terrible rental company with deceitful business practices. Booked a car through Expedia. When we arrived to pick up our car, their computers were down and had to fill in the paperwork by hand (We speak English and rented in Berlin). After an excruciating long time, with many customers lining up behind us, we were finally told how to pick up our vehicle. We walked around the block to the garage which was cramped and we felt under pressure to move the vehicle which meant that our visual inspection was hasty. When we returned the vehicle 12 days later, the team inspected the vehicle and assured us all was okay and had us sign a form, having us believe it was a release form.

One month later, we received an email saying that there was damage, and they already fixed it. The picture showed a slight blemish about 4 cm long on the bumper near the rear hatch. Europcar requested we pay 1200 Euros for this repair (at least they didn't automatically charge us which seems to be their habit). Apparently, I had signed an accident report without my knowledge. If there was legitimate damage they should have pointed it out to me when I was with the vehicle, but they conveniently waited one month before sending me the accident report and charges.

When I contested this with Europcar, they responded by saying that I signed the accident report, and claimed that the blemish was made during my rental period, and that there was nothing I could do to "exonerate" myself (their word). It is interesting how they used a legal term to intimidate me, the customer, so that I would voluntarily fork over another 1200 Euros. Hindsight is 20/20. After this experience, I Googled Europcar and found innumerable complaints about the company and their business practices. I should have researched the company prior to booking, but I just took it for granted that a company on Expedia would have good business ethics.

I rented a car from Europcar at the Lisbon airport from May 27 until July 3. I had family visiting and needed a mid-size SUV. When I arrived at the counter, I was told that I paid for a compact SUV. I showed the representative the actual receipt from Expedia. They stated that Expedia had used the wrong car for the class of car I paid for. I was forced to take the smaller car or pay a hefty fee to change to the mid-sized SUV I had already paid for.

On July 3rd, I rented a smaller car for one week as I did not need a larger car. I rented through a third party, but did not realize that I had rented an electric car for one week at 150.00 euros. Once I discovered this at the counter, I asked the agent if he had an automatic that I could rent, as I did not think there were many charging station in Setubal, where I would be staying. He did in fact had one, and charged me 198.00 euros for the "upgrade." We then discussed auto insurance. I normally buy through a third party, but since they made me sign a 30,000 euro waiver on the first car, stating that I would be responsible for the car up to that amount if there was any damage to the car, I decided to buy their insurance.

I asked about roadside assistance and the representative said I could only get that with premium insurance. I told him I did not want the premium insurance, I would take the basic insurance, as I know quite a few people in Portugal and I could get help if I needed it. I assumed that I was getting the cheaper insurance. My friend noted how expensive the car was for one week, but I truly thought they were upcharging me for changing my reservation at the last minute. When I returned the car on July 10, I was told by the serviceman in the return rental car garage that they did not need to inspect the car as I had paid for the premium insurance plan. I was perplexed. I had not asked for this and yet was charged for this. I had to go to my flight immediately, so was unable to question the clerk at the counter.

I had written several emails disputing this charge, only to be told that I signed the contract, so I must have known he was charging me for premium. They refuse to return any of the money they charged above the cost of basic insurance and simply state that the representative is in the right, and I am in the wrong. It is unfortunate that I have how they have done the same thing and worse to so many customers, and yet they seem to have no conscious, no shame, no remorse for their actions.

On July 18, 2025, I picked up a Peugeot 3008 from Europcar at their main office in Milan. I drove to Santa Margherita and Portofino, about 2.5 hours from Milan. The car remained parked during my stay, with no further use. On Sunday July 20 I was advised by the hotel staff that the car had a flat tire. I called the Europcar offices to advise them of the issue several times and got no response. Given I had to drive back to Milan the following day to catch a flight in the morning, I had to contract a local repair service to mend the tire. Upon inspection, the repair service showed me the tire did not have a puncture or hole of any sort, it was simply so worn out that air had started to leak out gradually. In other words, the tire could have blown out and I could have had an accident on the road. I paid Euros 300 for the repair, including extra charges for Sunday work.

Upon return of the car at Milan airport I told them what had happened, showed them all the photos and wrote a full report to request reimbursement. They denied the claim on the basis that: 1) I had changed a tire without their authorization (even though I called them first and got no answer); and 2) The tire that had been installed was not identical to the other three tires in the car (which obviously isn't possible in these circumstances).

To add insult to injury, the three remaining tires were also completely worn out and needed changing anyway. Finally, they even threatened me with charging for the changing of the other three tires. In short, Europcar delivers cars that are in bad condition, expects you to deal with the issues, and charges you for any repairs. They go as far as trying to charge you for additional repairs the car needs and for which you bear no responsibility. AVOID EUROPCAR IF YOU CAN.

We contacted Europcar customer service, who directed us back to the Florence rental location. The Florence team advised us to proceed to the Siena Europcar office, as we were closer to Siena and it would not have been safe to attempt the return to Florence. However, the Siena location advised us that this guidance was incorrect and that the vehicle needed to be returned to Florence. Nevertheless, understanding the urgency and danger, they instructed us to come in so they could assist. The Siena Europcar team was professional and helpful despite limited options. They did not have any vans or large vehicles available but managed to provide us with a smaller Ford, which, fortunately, we were able to make work with our family and luggage.

The core issue is this: we were forced to switch vehicles because the original minivan was dangerously defective and unfit for use. While we have accepted the disruption this caused to our trip, it is unacceptable that we have been charged for two vehicles under these circumstances. After weeks of failed efforts to get a response from Europcar customer service, an email was sent stating the vehicle had no issues as it was immediately re-rented. Awful company!

Original Review: I CAN'T GIVE THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY LOW ENOUGH STARS. We rented from them early July 2025. 3 weeks after our rental they tried to charge my card $911.27 for a chip in the windshield that didn't happen. I took pics at drop-off for proof. I disputed it with my cc company and ended up winning. Obviously because I have proof there was no damage. Now TODAY Feb 3rd 2026, 8 MONTHS later they again charged my card $925.11 This company should be shut down and here should be a major class action lawsuit. The CEO should be rotting in prison along with every employee causing fraud. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFO. JUST READ THE REVIEWS. I WISH I WOULD HAVE.

Original Review: This is the absolute worst car rental company I've ever dealt with. BEWARE. We booked this online for our first trip to Europe (our honeymoon). The rental was for unlimited miles. And we were to pick the car up on Sunday. After landing in London I received multiple emails asking for everything under the sun as they said they were closed on Sunday and once everything was filled out they would leave the keys in a lock box. It would have been nice if I didn't have to be constantly sending documents back and forth on my vacation when I was trying to enjoy being in Europe for the first time. This should have been done way ahead of time and not hours before they closed for the weekend. Causing panic for us.

After returning the car we took pics and left the car clean (besides some bug splatter) and could find a gas station so the tank was half empty. Which I'm totally fine paying for gas I didn't fill. Four days go by after returning the car and they claim the windshield was cracked. Which it was not, again we took photos. Then another week goes by and suddenly they charged my CC $912.00. That's on top of already paying for the car. Which was almost $500 US dollars. There were multiple charges, $400+ for added miles, $250 for windscreen (as they call it) and then all these other random taxes and charges.

They also charged $45 for gas, in which it cost us $30 to fill it. We left it half full. You do the math. This is a very deceptive and shady car rental business. So be careful. Also, we were supposed to get a VW polo or similar and ended up with a Suzuki swift. I'm sorry but VW and Suzuki are not in the same caliber, not even close. I wouldn't rent from this place again if it was free. This was in the Calais France train station location. I dealt with Doriane.

At first seemed friendly enough but what I did notice he immediately went to the left front wheel of the vehicle to point at a scratch, which seemed odd he went straight to that wheel in particular. I looked at him and asked, "Where?" He showed me but I could barely see what he was referring to. I had to get down to the ground to see the most minor scratch that I could barely see to the fact I had to take a picture to zoom in to see it. The employee told me don't worry about it because it's incredibly small. Next thing now I'm getting threatened to be sued of $150..unacceptable!!

I reserved my car through Hotwire. We selected a minivan for rental. When we arrived at the Cancun Europcar office, they told us they did not have the minivan we requested, but a "similar" car. The "similar" car had extremely limited room for luggage, and our family of 6 could not fit into the vehicle. They had Toyota Sienna minivans on the lot, but said those are an upgrade from our existing minivan reservation.

This was the start of the scam process. We were told it would be an additional $150/day to rent a Sienna (our total fee for the existing minivan reservation was $730 for 12 days). In regards to coverage, when I declined coverage due to my credit card providing rental car coverage, I was told I had to provide a deposit of $26,000...yes, that is correct, $26,000 in order to waive coverage. I appreciate the cleaning and washing of the car but as I already had a reservation done, I would hope my car would be ready almost immediately. I rented an SUV (Chevrolet Captiva), and just a few hours into the rental, the car wouldn’t drive baby steep hills, I had already filled the tank with over $1,200 pesos of gas because it was given to me with less than half a tank. I called for assistance and was told to return the car, but they didn’t have a similar SUV available — they gave me a smaller car (Volkswagen Virtus) instead.

Not only did they not refund the difference in rental cost, but the replacement car came did not come in a full tank of gas as I had asked because I had just pumped gas — and they still charged me a second $10,000 peso deposit. To make matters worse, it’s been more than 72 hours and I’ve only received one deposit back. The original deposit for the SUV is still missing, even though employees assured me both would be returned. They also couldn't change reservation or add a driver to fix it. They couldn't switch to a new credit card to fix it. They couldn't immediately credit the pre-paid funds toward another reservation. We ended up losing that reservation and waiting more than a week to have the prepaid funds returned (and worse, had to rent another car at the then applicable much higher rate) so we could get on our way.

The agents were not empowered to make things right, the manager called us rude and hid, we ended up speaking to billing department on phone for nearly an hour (without resolution), etc., etc. This could have been disastrous had we not had another credit card with sufficient credit/funds. I went on the app and selected to modify the reservation, and was warned it would cancel our existing reservation and gave me a new reservation number with a fee for picking up 2 hours early. I thought, OK, no big deal.

Wake up the next morning (day of car pick up) to learn our new reservation was not approved and thus completely canceled, and our previous reservation as canceled, meaning we had no car. In the email from Europcar there is a statement that specifically states, "Please contact our customer service by email webmaster@europcar.com if you wish to keep your reservation and change the item which is not available." So, I immediately reached out and said indeed, please just change our 3 month existing reservation back to the original pickup time and they said they "cannot access old reservations or modify the new one." They also said they could not make us a new reservation and the app said they were now out of cars. So we were just screwed.

Thankfully we had the most wonderful desk agent in Strasbourg who helped us get the LAST remaining car on the lot (Christmas Market season), but the only car left was a luxury vehicle that cost a full $650 USD more than our original rental. Booked and prepaid a car for Edinburgh, Scotland. At the time that we picked up we were upsold to a larger car. I should have said no for multiple reasons (additional cost, car too big for roads), but didn't, being assured that it wouldn't cost too much more. I signed off on what I thought was the total new contract cost, which included for an additional driver (wife) and premium roadside assistance. With the additional driver and roadside assistance, and an airport station charge (bogus, because we picked up and dropped off, in the centre of the city), the cost of the bigger car appeared to be quite reasonable, but in fact I was charged an additional 212% for this "cheap" upgrade, because they never credited the original payment. Attempts to communicate with the company have totally ignored.

What adds insult to injury was that the roadside assistance was non-existent. After over 3 hours stranded on the roadside due to a flat tire (their cars do NOT have spare wheels) during which we could not reach them we eventually contacted the AA who came and picked us up and took us (car and all) to our hotel. When we finally contacted the roadside assistance later that day they said that they could come to our assistance TWO DAYS LATER. In the end the AA was contacted again the next day to bring our vehicle to a nearby service centre where we got the tire replaced. The AA cost us nothing because they billed the rental company. The reciprocal arrangements between AA and AAA/CAA means that we probably could have done without the premium service, just utilizing our CAA membership instead.

So based on the shady upgrading scam (I've received larger cars many times in the past when the car size we originally booked was not available, but have NEVER been forced to pay a premium), non-existent roadside service, zero communication from the company when trying to get answers, the surprise bogus premium station charge that was never mentioned at the time of booking, and the fact that to this day I cannot find the basic pricing for the car that we were upgraded to as it does not appear on their booking site, I can only conclude that this is a very shady operation. All I can say is BE VERY WARY when dealing with this company. I have rented cars many times through the years with various different major rental companies and have never had such an unsatisfactory experience.

I checked the SOS function in the car, but it was not active. To my surprise, I also discovered that the vehicle had no spare tire, which could have resolved the issue immediately. I am unsure why no spare tire was provided, as this would have greatly alleviated the problem.

Stranded on the roadside at approximately 1:00 am, I contacted the local police for assistance. Despite several attempts, I was unable to reach Europcar's customer service or the provided contact number (+41-044-8044646). Eventually, the police arranged for a tow truck. Not to mention - they kept on trying to impose some sort of administrative charges multiple times. My advice for people who need to rent cars from this company is that - you should cut off the credit card as soon as you finished the purchase and stop these people from charging endlessly to you overseas. I reserved two pre-paid rental cars through Europcar (which partners with Denver Fox Rental) for a six person group I was traveling with to Denver. I reserved both cars in my name with additional drivers - I wasn't aware that Europcar doesn't allow you to rent two vehicles in one primary driver's name. I got two confirmation emails with confirmation numbers for my reservations. However, without informing me, Europcar cancelled one of my reservations. I received no notification of this and there was nothing indicating on their website that you can't rent two cars under one name. When our group got to the Denver Fox rental counter at 1am, they told us they couldn't find the second reservation and said we need to call Europcar. I called and Europcar said they cancelled that reservation and refunded me.

It's 1am and I don't have a way of checking that they refunded me so I figure, I'll take their word for it and check later. Big mistake, because they never refunded me for the reservation that THEY CANCELLED WITHOUT TELLING ME! So now we're left with 6 people and one car, so Fox said they can upgrade us to a bigger vehicle, but they'll have to run the paperwork as if we're doing a rental from scratch even though I have the one prepaid reservation that they could find from Europcar. The new rental paperwork had the full charge for a larger vehicle and the attendant at Fox assured me that they would make a note to the billing department so I wouldn't be charged the full amount since I had the prepaid credit.

I took their word again which was the second big mistake, but it was 2am at this point after a 12 hour day of travel and delayed flights. I get home from my trip and sit down to sort out the credit card charges and not only was I charged for both of my original reservations from Europcar totaling $500+, BUT I was also charged the entire amount for the rental car from Fox totalling $800+. I have been trying to get this resolved with both Fox and Europcar and my credit card company and it has turned into a messy nightmare.

Fox refunded a portion of their charges bringing the total down to around $600 which is what I was assured at their office that I was supposed to pay total for the rental and that Europcar would refund their charges, but I still haven't been refunded for either of my prepaid charges to Europcar, so a rental that was supposed to cost $600 for the trip has now turned into a $1,000 rental and hours wasted trying to get this figured out. Extremely dissapointed with both of these companies and will think twice before renting a car with either company again.

My wife and I traveled on vacation to Italy this past May (2024). Prior to leaving, we had arranged to rent a car when we left Sienna so to that we could travel to our next destination as there was no public transportation to it, and also visit the many Tuscany towns and countryside. On May 13th we arrived at the Europcar rental outlet in Sienna and I provided our documents to confirm that we had reserved and paid for our car for 4 days (May 13- 17). I was advised by the agent that the car was too small for the amount of luggage my wife and I were carrying, and he needed to put us into a larger car, (1 suitcase, 1 backpack and 2 carry on pieces of luggage). He indicated that he had upgraded us to a larger car (Alpha Romeo) which was 800 Euros (approximately $1200 Canadian in addition to the $400 we had already paid) for a 4 day rental. When questioned as to whether there was a smaller car that was less expensive he replied "No".

When we went outside, my wife noticed a car smaller than the Alfa Romeo, and I asked him if this smaller car was the one that we had initially rented, as it was similar in size to a Ford Fiesta and would have been sufficient. He said that the car we initially rented was much smaller than the one I had just pointed out, and that he did not have any other cars that would be large enough for our luggage. Our travel agent later confirmed that the car I had pointed out to the agent was indeed the size of the car we had initially reserved and paid for. Our travel agent emailed Europcar as well as the Company through which we had booked the car (Travel Brands), and was told that we keep all documents.

After more than 3 months of writing back and forth, we have now received Europcar's response that they will not reimburse us for the extra charges because we had freely signed a contract with them for the rental of the Alpha Romeo. Europcar also stated that I was "not willing to exchange the vehicle". While I acknowledge that I had signed the contract, I had no other choice. If I wanted to rent a car, I had to sign a contract. I signed it because we needed a car to get to our next destination, and being a visitor to Italy, I did not know of any other options that would ensure I received a car at that time.

As for the accusation that I had refused to exchange the vehicle, this is completely not true. I was never offered a choice to exchange the Alpha Romeo for another smaller vehicle. In fact, our travel agent wrote to both Travel Brands and Europcar on the day this occurred. She received no response from Europcar. If in fact Europcar would have offered to allow us to exchange the car. I would have done so, rather than pay approximately $1600 Canadian in total including my original payment of $400. In short, the travel agent saw two elderly visitors and took advantage of us. These unfair practices have been condoned by Europcar's head office by denying our request for reimbursement and "hiding behind a rationale that we had signed a contract".

After finding the agency and getting a shuttle (shuttle did not take long and is quite close by) we received heavy pressure to buy insurance through europcar although we had already paid insurance through Priceline. The salesman told us the insurance was inferior and I needed theirs. Their insurance was quoted to be over the daily rental rate each and every day. What??!

On the trip, a crack developed and they asked me to pay 2200usd to fix the windshield. I said no. We had to walk to the airport to catch my flight because they would not shuttle us. As soon as the crack developed I called their roadside number and one person who answered did not speak English but hung up on me. I called twice more and no one answered. Pick up took 30 minutes. Our cars check engine light and tpms light were both on. Staff was not concerned. Luckily the car drove well. Drop off was unorganized and we had to wait for 10 minutes before we were acknowledged

I have to concur with these recent reviews. A small scratch repair was estimated at an outrageous price but more concerning was that there were 10 other damages listed on the rental agreement and they had not been repaired. They appear to be charging for repairs that are not done! A lack of transparency in responding to my questions. Several issues that just do not pass the sniff test! Crooked and Corruption! Repair Scam! If you dare use this company for a hired car make sure you have 100% cover with your credit card or insurance company for ANY damage or theft! I had a minor dent in the back hatch door of a nice cheap Renault Kwid for two weeks in April. I called them immediately and filled their form out before I came and even got a police report even though the dent was on private property. But I am a good honest customer and followed their rules! Their deposit was very high for a two week rental (R8800) but I have never had a problem until now. The car is only worth less than R200K new and they wanted to try to tell me this repair was going to be R19K and I still owed them another R10K! Outrageous and I demanded the quote from the body shop. They did not have that but instead an estimate from a company they pay in Johannesburg that from what I understand does not even look at the car but makes a guess.

This estimate had all kinds of things like replacing glass and the badges and reflectors and bumper supports! Bloated corruption! Someone is getting paid under the table! I believed this is crooked so I took 50+ hi res photos of my own and a video and send to a few SA panel beaters and did NOT tell them the story. They ALL came back with quotes from R6000-10000 MAX! I was right! I told Europcar my findings and agreed to top up the deposit to make it R10000 out of pocket in good faith for their admin costs but that was ALL they would get from me. They have now tried to threaten legal actions for R9000. Such a joke! Again make sure you have FULL cover with your credit card or own insurance and excess and DO NOT TRUST Europcar with any way! They had a similar scandal in the UK in 2017 and the same is going on in SA. Time to get Carte Blanche to investigate this corrupt fraud!!

There are many questions about this company that they do not want to answer or take any responsibility. Zero customer focus. Let me start by saying that on the next day of the trip our car broke down. At 16:00 we called the “free” support service (an employee of the Toulouse airport office assured us that the service was free). It took the operator 30 minutes to determine our location and call us a tow truck, during which we then received a bill from the mobile operator for 250 euros. We waited another two hours for the tow truck.

We were promised a replacement car the next day as soon as the office in Sarlat, France opens up (08:30). But they conveniently forgot about us and we were forced to call and describe the situation again. Even though the office was located 7 kilometers from us, the taxi arrived to pick us up after an hour of waiting and further calls to Europcar. By 12:00 we finally received the car. But the worst thing happened after the end of the rental.

Firstly, an office employee at Toulouse airport refused to give us a car acceptance certificate. We insisted, but she said that now there are no employees who could draw up an act. Although we returned the car during working hours at 20:00. The next day, when we left the country, we received a report in the mail indicating that we had damaged the car. We made a video of the car in time of delivery, and it was there already.

From another country, the company can only be contacted by email. You have to write to different emails because it would take employees up to week to respond, or even months. We were waiting for deposit return for like a month. Also, for a whole month we tried to prove that we did not scratch the car. Almost six months have already passed since we rented a car, and we still cannot get any compensation from the company for at least a day of downtime without a car.

Agree with all the others - this is a deceitful company that will try to upsell you without you even knowing it. They will keep you waiting forever to get the car and then rush you off before you can even read the contract. We rented 2 cars at Rome airport through Auto Europe and ended up with extra charges that we never agreed to. Auto Europe tried to help us out, but said since we signed the contract - we did agree to the terms. It was very shady how they did this. Do not use this company.

Read the contract before signing. Rented in La Sezia Italy. The Agent tried to charge us 100€ more for one way drop off even though my reservation and “guaranteed price” included the one way charge. She was aggressive and kept pushing for the higher cost. After arguing with her and standing my ground and showing her my booking details and inclusions, she created a new contract with the correct cost. “Mama Mia” she said a few times as we argued.

I received a Fiat station wagon (60k km) that was very dirty inside and out. The seats were heavily stained. Lots of exterior damage. The rear seat bottom was detached and loose, wiper blades were destroyed and completely not functional (found that out driving through heavy rain in the Alps). Have not been charged any more surprise charges (yet). Read the contract in detail, inspect the car and take lots of photos to document existing damage. It got us where we needed to go. Lots of room for luggage in the Fiat. I was refunded my deposit in full, I did not use their optional insurance, just the basic included with the Italy rental. Credit card would cover additional damage. Hopefully I don’t get extra charges in the months to come.

This company is scamming tourists. We were given a new car and couldn't see any damage in our inspection. To be fair the woman at the desk recommended taking photos of the car before leaving but the car was so close to the other vehicles that it wasn't very easy to do. Also I didn't realize that the photos were to protect us from the sleazy tactics of their own company. We had an uneventful trip and there was no damage to the car. We didn't hear any rocks hit the windows and we are certain nothing happened on the trip. When we returned, the woman inspecting the cars pointed out a pin prick sized "rock chip" in the wind shield that we couldn't see until she pointed it out with the tip of her pen. We wouldn't have seen it unless we were looking at it from 6 inches away. It was so small it wouldn't have shown up in any photos we took before our trip. I am including a picture to show how ridiculous it is.

There is no way this "rock chip" needs repairing yet they charged us 35 Euros to fix it and then an additional 76 Euros for admin fees. I complained enough about it that they sent me the paperwork to fill out and dropped the admin fee, but this whole experience has not only been frustrating and infuriating for me but it left a bad taste in our mouths for Seville, Spain in general. To charge customers 110 Euros for a what is essentially a pin prick on the windshield is so obviously a scam. I looked at reviews for Europcar after the fact and saw that they average 1-2 stars out of 5 which explains a lot. It looks like I am not the only customer that has been scammed by their business. It is obvious that they don't care about their customers and will stop at nothing to earn the extra buck. I hope that Europcar eventually goes out of business for screwing over their customers.

JUST DON’T! After a 20hr sleepless journey arrived at the Heathrow location, prepaid rental through auto Europe, my credit card covers all insurance coverages as used on many previous rentals in UK, sign here, here and here and told about the £250 block on credit card, which is normal, no walk around for damage so took my own video, returned car, nothing mentioned about additional charges, returned home only to find a charge for $600 for tire/windshield and roadside coverage! which my card covers anyway, they sent copy of the signed form showing the charges I “agreed to”. It’s essentially fraud IMO, yep, I signed it, nothing mentioned when signing, lesson learnt, a stonewall, too bad so sad response, be warned if you do use them, the amount was the same as the 16 day rental! Nice homecoming, JUST DON’T!

Their reply is just an automated reply to make it look like they are going to resolve the issue but the link just takes you to customer service team that basically says too bad so sad you fell for it! No one would ever take these additional coverages knowingly and without consent it’s a scam! Customer service refuses to allow me to talk to the location manager and the online phone number for the location is the customer service number, what a great job they are doing to shut you down, customer service suggested to email to get it escalated, which I did, and no reply, to be expected at this point. Well, after being ignored by customer service I decided to escalate it myself. To no avail, it would seem they have successfully trained their staff to deceive and take advantage of the weary traveler.

Part of their response- “Our rental agents are trained to offer the products that are available in order to enhance the customers rental experience and so that they can make an informed decision.” Informed decision, hmm, let’s see how the conversation would have gone had there been one. Sir, would like to take additional coverage for tyre/windshield and roadside express which would amount to £352($620) the same amount as your 16 day rental? No thank you, as I have already informed you my credit card takes care of any eventualities. The conversation never happened and as such was not able to decline said coverage. Shortly afterwards, I received an email from Europcar advising me that the car had sustained damage while under my care, and proceeded to show me 3 pictures...one claiming a scuff on the driver's front bumper, one scuff on the driver's side mirror and one scuff of all things on the fuel cap.

They sent me pictures which evidently showed the blemishes, but the supposed damage was so small, almost undetectable, that I could not tell what was the matter. I advised them that the car was not in the least way damaged under my care, but they have continued to insist that I am liable, and charged me nearly $300 pounds for the damage. Fortunately, I had purchased insurance just in case I had an accident, given I was driving on the opposite side of the road and car, from what I am used to in the US. When we arrived at Loreto airport in Mexico, Europcar staff informed us that they no longer offer vans and the only car they could offer us was a 5-passenger Suzuki Ertiga which is a much smaller car. And they refused to adjust the price accordingly.

They also told us that they no longer offered the van as an option and our credit card company had the incorrect information on their website but if we waited for a few hours, we could get a different car that would be newer but even smaller than the Suzuki. So, we had no choice but to accept the Suzuki. The car was filthy, scratched and disgusting. The Europcar staff had the nerve to tell us if we returned the car dirty, we'd have to pay extra. We even washed and vacuumed the inside before we returned it. It was much cleaner when we returned it than when we rented it.

Later, I contacted our credit card travel department to complain that what I paid for was not what I got. When the credit card company contacted Europcar to discuss this issue, Europcar lied and said that we were not willing to wait for the van. This is a complete fabrication of the truth. We ended up needing the car for 3 more days, I even went to Europcar counter at the Loreto airport and spoke to their staff, and they said they would honor the original lease price but later they overcharged me $200 on my credit card. I emailed them and sent messages through WhatsApp to their staff at Loreto, but no one replied. To make the matter worse, when I tried to contact Europcar on their website, the contact form is broken. I tried more than 1 contact form but couldn't even submit my complaint. Terrible company. I reserved a full sized minivan online at EuropCar to pick up in Loreto, Baja. It was listed at double the price of a compact minivan on their site. When I arrived, they said they didn't offer full sized minivans anymore (at all) but that they could give me a very small 'compact minivan.' Then they wouldn't lower the price of the rental. The other car rental agencies at the airport were out of the full sized minivans so I had to pay double than the advertised price at EuropCar for the compact mini van that wasn't large enough for my group so we had to rent a second car.

Also, I've rented cars all over Mexico and EuropCar's insurance it triple what it is elsewhere. They said that if I declined to buy their insurance, they would put the whole price of the car on my credit card - almost $20,000 - before letting me leave with the car (even though I bought extra insurance on the website when I checked out and had insurance on the car through my credit card). It was an extra busy time in Loreto so the other car rental agencies only had small cars left or I would have gone elsewhere. How do they get away with this? I was incredibly dumb for not checking reviews for EuropCar before I rented. Most people leave one star and talk about all kinds of scams and fraud. Please be warned and do not rent from them.

I recommend not using Europcar because of their practice of falsely claiming damage occurred to their rental cars long after it is returned and then charging customers for it. In July 2023, I booked a rental car from Europcar for 5-day use in Italy the following month. We picked the car up in Ravenna without much of a problem and the Fiat performed well. I drove extremely carefully and parked the car in places that ensured no damage would occur. I even paid to parked it safely for 3 days while in Bellagio to make sure the car sustained no damage. When I dropped it off at Malpensa Airport in Milan, the Europcar staff took the keys and did not offer to check the car with me because they were very busy and I had to catch a plane.

In September 2023, I received an email stating that they would charge an additional $215 Euros to my credit card because of a tiny scratch on one of the alloy wheels (a photograph was sent). In a subsequent email, they said there was no way for their staff to verify the damage with me at the airport because I dropped off the car after hours when their staff was unavailable to verify damage with me which is not true. When I disputed their claims, I was told that I was still responsible for the charge unless I provided photographic evidence that I did not damage the car even though it's ridiculous to expect drivers to photograph every inch of a rental car before and after using it.

They charged my Visa account $325 USD on 11/16/23, much more than the $231 USD they claim I owe them for damages. Then on 11/22/23, I received an email from their Collections department stating that I need to wire them the funds via bank transfer within 5 days or they would initiate legal proceedings against me. From now on, I will only use reputable car rental companies based in the U.S. when traveling abroad.

Want to share my experience with this car rental company which had poor customer service and unprofessional business practices. Unfortunately, they scammed me out of my money. I had ordered a luxury car and paid for it, along with a contract stating that the car would be waiting for me at the terminal. However, when I arrived in Europe, there was no car and no customer service to help me. After several hours of searching, I was given a different car than the one I had ordered. Not only was it not a luxury car, but it was also partially malfunctioning. When I complained, I was told that I didn't have to take it. However, since it was Christmas and I had no other options, I had to take it.

I didn't drive the car for three days, and I was told that I had to drive or tow the car for about 2 hours to the airport in Poland to swap it for a working one. When I finally did, I found out that the second car had several issues that posed a danger to me, I was told that the car was returned by another client due to malfunctioning features. The company offered to return only half of my money, but they never did. Instead, they started charging me more money, and one year later, I had to block my credit cards and cancel payments. Now they trying to put me through collections. This company is ridiculous, and I consider them scammers.

Worst car rental I have experienced. Booked online, declined all insurance and extras. After a long overnight flight, paperwork was ready at the desk, glanced over quickly, signed and was told it would be 20 mins for them to clean the car. My fault maybe, but I didn't catch they had added roadside assistance for an additional 70Eu. I tried to contact them every day for 2 weeks to get the unwanted service removed but they ignored all calls and emails. Followed up after my trip and was told I signed so I pay. I accept some blame but still believe this is completely unethical.

After 20 mins we went to the garage to pick up car. Had to wait another 15 mins before they drove it up, dropped it in the driving lane and said we can go. The car was clearly damaged so we checked it over. Must have been over 50 hail dents, banged up fender from collision, scratches and missing paint over most of bumpers, scratched mirror, long deep scratches on every door and panel, dented hood. Some damage was listed on the sheet but it was obviously missing a lot. We asked for an attendant to go over the car with us and add the missing damage but they refused, saying they were too busy and don't worry about it. We refused to take the car and let it sit in the lane blocking other cars from coming in. 30 mins later a Manager finally came over and looked over the car quickly and said he added the additional damage on the system. No additional paperwork was provided.

Running late, we took many pictures and multiple videos and finally took the 4 wheel wreck. When we returned the car, although the attendant was really nice, she still pointed to damage on the car that she said was not recorded on the system. We were going to get charged for it until we offered the videos clearly showing the damage at pickup. I am pretty careful when renting cars but still got scammed after arriving tired and not reading every line in the contract I was given.

Europcar corp has been absolutely no help and just say that each country is operated independently so it's not their problem. Obviously I am cancelling the reservation I have for my next trip and will avoid Europcar for all future travel. I had tried contacting Europcar Corp, Europcar Italy and the Europcar FCO office. Corp and Italy won't help and FCO just ignored.

NEVER rent a car from this company! I had not driven the car 1 mile from their rental office when it started to smoke very badly. I pulled over and immediately called the service number provided. I was told that it was going to take at least two hours for anybody to come look at the car, so I said, "Couldn't you just give me a different car instead of me waiting around," as by this time I was missing out on my vacation's planned excursions so I told the office I would just like to cancel the rental altogether and just take a train to my next destination. They told me that I must stay with the car, so I waited till the service technician arrived, all he did was turn the car on. He didn't even get in it. He did not look under the hood to check on the engine and with that he determined that the car was drivable. But there is no way that I was going to drive that car any longer.

When I called the office back again to tell them I still wanted to cancel and be on my way. The office was now closed. And this is only 4 o'clock in the afternoon. When I tried calling the general customer service number I was just repeatedly, put it in a loop pressing buttons and never got anyone to talk to no matter what button I pushed. So I couldn't have gotten a different car even if I had driven it to the office. So I left the car keys with a very nice pub owner where the car was parked and got on a train to my next destination. When I called Europcar the next morning so that I could talk to a live person, they told me they would pick up the car and then assess the damage of it, but they never contacted me back. They never sent me any communication whatsoever.

Sorry this is a long story, but bottom line is they then refused to refund my money for the car rental, saying that I canceled the reservation after the deadline to get a refund and so per their policy could not refund my money, no matter how much I explained that the car had broken down in less than a mile, apparently that doesn't matter and is not reason enough for them to refund money. And this was a car rental for six days, so even though they had the car back in their position, in one day, they are keeping the entire amount for five days' worth of rental. Very very shady. I have since read reviews on other sites and there is story after story after story similar to mine or some other scam that occurred to them like hiking up prices etc or not having a car available even though they had a reservation, STAY AWAY!

Charged us for upgraded car (we did not receive) but when I disputed the cr. card bill they actually fabricated a giant lie saying we had too much luggage (we had none). We took taxi from hotel for two short day trips (we parked at hotel overnight) and that we requested the larger car! We in fact never spoke of this and we got a car that looked like and was described in our guaranteed confirmation. Other than being a different brand (which is in the disclaimer comparable or similar to) a car with a lot of body damage I might add.

I thought the extra amt on p/u was a security deposit (it was in Italian), now after trying to deal with them (although I did call them after we headed out to clarify things, they said they had to call back in 15 mins. but of course they did not) now with us back in Canada they don’t give a damn even though tried to reason with them. Costs for two day leisure drive almost $1000! But what hurts more (and the $ hurts) is the outright lies. Sad that anyone would so badly intentionally and maliciously rip tourists off. We had an agreement and an established price. The established price was already way too high but that's a different story. After I had returned the rental I was sent an invoice where I was charged way higher than what we had agreed upon. Customer Service was contacted and it turns out that the contract I signed at the time of pick up was different than the contract we had agreed upon initially. Any normal company would consider this a mistake and would promptly reimburse the difference. But not this company. They simply tell you that this is what you signed and there is nothing they can do about it. Please save your money and a huge headache and go with a different company.

I have called several times to the customer service number and they did not help me. This is the issue, I rented a 3-row car for our vacations in Punta Cana, I paid in full when I made the reservation. When we got there, the agent said that they rented my car to someone else and that I needed to wait for at least 4 hours before having a similar car available.

They were offering a different car small one where we did not fit. I don't want to give you all the embarrassing situation at the station but we had to rent another car in a different company. The team there is very disrespectful and they're tarnishing the image of Europcar. I personally will not try never to rent a car with this company. Can you imagine after a long flight, at the end of the day, not having a car you rented 2 months in advance... I'm still struggling to get my refund, they don't have a process to manage claims, they don't communicate each other within the same company and ultimately branches can do whatever they want with no consequences, that location at Punta Cana must be shut down for good.

We were late to pick up the car due to my mistake- I thought we had a 12:00 pick up when it was 10:00. Since we were late (more than 1/2 hour), the Paris Nord rental office gave away our car even though it was fully paid for. BUT, « have we got a deal for you » they had another car for 330€ additional. We were over a barrel with no car and a long trip planned that required a car so we had to go with the car they offered.

While we were there THREE other consumers were in the same situation. We were ALL having to pay high fees for upgrades- not sure of the reasons for the others. We had gone through a third party and had not received the 1/2 hour late and your car is up for grabs memo from them (Autocar-don’t go with them either). Each blamed the other company for our lack of information. When we got back we contacted AAA, who had helped us book the car to complain. Since my husband signed the additional amount agreement we had no recourse. Case closed. DON’T use Europcar!!! They will line their bosses' pockets without compunction.

Hello. I’m reaching out pertaining to my experience and compliant. I picked up the car at Rome via Veneto location Italy and as I arrived the car was not at the location but most importantly the representative didn’t perform a thorough walk thru or explain the vehicle. As a frequent business traveller/car renter I took matters into my own hands and completed a video prior to leaving the location.

In the video I explain the following:

-scratches on the doors, rims and rear end damage which was not identified on the contract.

-Fuel tank was not full and only 430km , I took a pictures and brought back the car with 470km of more fuel.

After explaining these items and showing the videos the representative in Lamezia airport location said he can’t do nothing about this and will not close my contract and refund me a deposit of $500.00 euro. The total charge is $1013.11 euro ($1489.61 Canadian) and no more as per agreement, I’ve done my duty and obligations as a renter. They claimed the scratches, dents and fuel wasn't this way when I picked up the car even though I've showed them video footage of before and after. Ive contacted Mastercard and completing a charge back, buyer beware and stay away from this company as they're out to rip people off only.

I should have read these reviews prior to our experience. We rented an SUV in Switzerland - we get there and it's too small for our family of 4...they were kind and quick with a car switch which is the ONLY reason I give it 2 stars. It was an expensive upgrade for us but we just had to go with it because well...we had to. Anyway - the car had a terrible glitch with a light that would pop up and DING so loud it made you jolt. When I say it would pop up...I mean it would pop up over 40 times a day. I contacted the company who said to swap it in where we got it - we were staying nearly 3 hours from there so I said, "We couldn't and I'd like a discount," they said to contact the customer service desk where I got it. Cool. I did.

The manager was so rude. I told him it was honestly dangerous because it legit made you JOLT every time while you're DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. He told me "It's not dangerous. Annoying probably, but not dangerous." Eventually, he offered me a *very* small discount which I haven't seen. Not to mention - since our initial fee we paid...we've had eight. EIGHT. I repeat EIGHT varying charges pending/charged/refunded/recharged to our credit card. Not one of them is the number we had on the contract.

Even the manager on return said he could do nothing as when they scanned the car it automatically closes the account. Sunday evening, I complained onsite only to be told you need to email customer service. After reaching out to customer service they had the audacity to tell me there was nothing wrong with the car, which was a disgrace and blatant lie, my wife replied what a load of rubbish and my 6 yr. old son commented that was the worse car he had ever been in. Probably the worst experience of any hire car place I have received. Same hard upsell as other low star reviews have mentioned. Would never use these guys again. The man behind the counter went hard on the up sell. Amazingly there was a Mercedes he could do for a great price, 5,600GBP more...nope (not a great price I replied).

Okay I got a great car, Seat SUV, 1,500 more (again not a great price on top of 1,300GBP already paid). We told him they were not great deals, and can we just get the vehicle we had booked, a Peugeot 2008. Clearly annoyed at no sell, he took me to see the car I booked for 1,300 GBP, what I saw was nothing short of a disgrace. A Vauxhall Mokka, the tires were bald and not a single panel was not damaged. I said I am going to be driving 2,500 miles and have a 6yr old, and I am not taking this car. This place is a disgrace, and the hard sell belongs elsewhere as we all come long distances to be met by these disgraced people.... In the end we got pressured into his 'best offer deal' exhausted from all the different options being thrown at us we left with what we thought was a better car for our month-long trip. Even then the deal was only brought down due to our constant refusal.

What we got was a brand-new MG ZS and may possibly be the worst car I have ever driven. With 3 of us along with luggage the 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder engine can barely muster the necessary power to cope with motorway driving. In fact, I would go as far to say that it is dangerously underpowered. Accelerating onto motorway on ramps requires using the rev range of every gear and even then, you still have cars behind right on your bumper because you're just about managing 65mph. Overtaking slower lorries in particular required significant pre planning in order not to have faster cars in the overtaking lane crashing into the back of us. In addition, the understeer of the car makes country roads equally nasty to navigate. To think this car cost us over 2000GBP to hire is an absolute joke.

We were conned by these fraudsters; I would avoid this place as they should be investigated for fraud and would not be surprised if Europcar goes out of business in next 12 months. What we ordered and what we got, could not even be comparable. The man behind the counter kept saying he had no other cars, yet the lot was full of cars. My booking had stated a Peugeot 2008 or similar, there were plenty of these cars close to the one he had shown me. I said why can I not have one of these, he said no they were taken.

The car itself was a disaster! After leaving the rental center and on the M25, only then we noticed the car did not have a radio, clearly said on the screen the module was disconnected. In addition, the guy on the counter had mentioned is comes with navigation, again that was false lie. The MG ZS had no navigation system on the screen. The car broke down twice in heavy rain due to the automatic start stop feature. I disabled it after the 2nd breakdown as it would not start at traffic lights. On top of this I could not get the petrol cap off, I had to ask for help at the garage who used a wrench to take it off.

I had no radio for a month traveling around, I did call Europcar customer service only to be told nothing useful and for me to bring the car in, I was on a month-long vacation and was not going to spend a day taking the car to be repaired. I have to say I have always had good cars globally, but this is by far the worst car I have ever rented, and I doubt I will be back.

As soon as I saw the additional charge on my card, I walked right back in, before we ever left the parking lot, and told them I did not want the car - I wanted what I had reserved and wanted my money back. They told me that they didn't have enough cars and they were short, so they didn't even have the car that I reserved. They promised me a refund once I turned the car back in - and honestly, I should have just walked out and never come back. I would have been better off renting a bicycle. But I trusted them, since they're a company - and they didn't follow through.

Additionally - they send you these notices that they get from agencies around the country and they go ahead and pay them so they can charge you a 40 admin fee. They don't check with you to see if the charge is valid - because then, of course, they wouldn't be able to collect their bogus fee. I told them that I had appealed the charge and told them that I did NOT authorize them to charge anything to me until I had received the results from the appeal. They continued to hound me and my husband, and even though I told them I did not authorize any debits, they still tried to take money from my account. Luckily, I had warned my bank and blocked any charges from their company.

I have communicated with them time and time again to tell them that I did not authorize the charges nor were the charges even correct- and that I was in the process of handling them. They keep telling me to pay it anyway and they'll refund me later - PLEASE. I made the mistake of trusting them once already. Now they're threatening to turn me over to a lawyer because they have shady "business" practices, horrible customer service and are unprofessional. AVOID them - go ANYWHERE else. My wife, daughter (3months old) and I travelled to Italy and rented a car. To say this was the worst rental car experience ever is an understatement. We booked this 5+ weeks ahead of our travel date, and our first time traveling with our daughter we wanted to make sure everything went smoothly. But it did not. The process took THREE plus hours.

I rented an Audi Q5 or similar automatic premium class. I called the day before to let the office know we were getting on a train from Lake Garda to Florence and will arrive ~11:30am (our reservation was for 11am). We arrived and there was a line of about 4 people with 2 customer service agents, one male one female. I started the process with the female agent and she was taking her time because they did not have our car available. Waited about 20+ mins. Actually, the person ahead of me got the last Audi Q5. So she told me they would change our car to an Alfa Romeo Stelvio. I confirmed if our luggage and car seat would fit, and she said yes. However after 30+ mins I was told that car was not available and we’ll get a different car. Mind you, my daughter is 3 months old and has to eat every 3 hours. So we took 90 mins on a train and now this process is 60+ mins.

We were then told we’re getting a “fancy Mercedes”. I confirm with them again, will it fit my 3 large suitcases and stuff for my daughter. The female agent says yes. After about 60 mins, getting all the information and going to the garage and getting the workers to bring the car down, I see that it is a sedan. How is this sedan going to fit all of our luggage?! It obviously did not, and I had to go back to the office. Because of this, my wife had to feed our daughter on the FLOOR of the garage. How degrading.

I went back to the office and now the male agent decided to help me. He then gave me a Mazda SUV, which is definitely in a much lower class than what I paid for. In a rush, I ran back and got my wife and daughter, changed my daughter ON THE FLOOR OF THE GARAGE and packed up the Mazda. Only to learn there is no GPS which is what we paid for. I went BACK to the office and he said, "Sorry, I can only refund you the gps money." I still don't have the refund. I had to pay for an extensive GPS service in order to drive through the countryside in Tuscany. Almost 4 hours later, we left the garage. They offered no help, no remorse, and they didn't care how much we were degraded. I was so disappointed that I even returned the car a day early. This is the most appalling service of all time. Avoid at all costs.

I was cheated of 2000$. This is a scam operation, I paid for the rental car and had a voucher I paid in full around 1200$. I also purchased a third-party liability insurance for 180$. At the car rental, they lied and said that I can only purchase third party liability with them which was about 400$. They made me sign a receipt for 2000$ for the credit card Hold, and also a receipt for 2388$ for the credit card hold and the additional liability. What they did is fraudulently charge me 2000$ again for the car rental that I already paid for. They lied and I didn’t catch their lie because magically they matched the car rental price (2000$) that they fraudulently charged me for with the amount of the hold which was 2000$. This is plain fraud; it is a scam!!!! Do not use!

Terrible after-sale care from the customer service department. No interest, no advice, help or care was given. I had received a parking ticket, due to a mistake by the hotel/restaurant I was eating at. Unfortunately the staff member input the registration wrong of the vehicle and I received a parking ticket. I chased the parking authority and I deleted it with time and costs being accrued by myself. The customer service department just kept reiterating the same email, there is a forty pounds administration charge?

There will be an administration cost accrued from Europcar, when it was dealt with by myself I find this tedious and greedy. They also kept my card details on file, after I had advised them not to and that I did not agree to this charge as I had accrued the costs. They did try to take the payment, which I had already advised the card company and blocked them from taking any payment. They then proceeded to send to the accounts department for court proceedings, for the forty pounds outstanding? I will protect my rights and I will also chase my admin costs that have accrued along with any other legal costs that I will acquire. Absolutely, this is an abuse of management that this has been sent over and also how costs from this company are used.

Returning the car was a major problem. It was difficult returning the car. We put the return address into our phones and got to the area based on the phone directions and stopped in front of Hertz and saw a tiny Europcar sign with an arrow pointing down a ramp. Got to the bottom and was met by an attendant and showed him our Europcar paperwork and said we were at the right spot. He didn't offer an paperwork, just said to go upstairs. Well I was still lost and didn't know what to do but finally figured out your office was down the street a bit. Went over there and they told me to get the car and bring it back to the busy street close to their office. NO OFFICIAL RETURN PARKING. Come on. How stupid is this?

Went back to the parking lot and the attendant would not give me back my car. Had to go up to the Hertz office and got the very rude old man to come downstairs and talk with the attendant. Hertz guy couldn't get the attendant to give me back my car and then yelled at me for why did I return here. I again told him that I show the attendant my paperwork and he said to leave car here. I told the Hertz guy that he didn't have to be so rude and we both started yelling at each other. I then walked back to the EuropCar office and told both of the workers what happened and a lady very politely walked over to where I parked the car. Never saw her again, but I guess she took care of it. The other guy was very nice and we got the final paperwork from him. Bottom line, they should have a parking lot for people to return cars. Better signage would be help especially in English. There you go.

The vehicle was checked prior and during drop off and there was no damage, I’m still perplexed over this non-sense. But after reviewing this company, I have no interest in pursuing this matter. Advice, stick with memberships or who you’re familiar with.

We decided to rent a car when we arrived and saw these guys, never again. Read the 30,000 grand scam and this company renting a vehicle with bald tires placing their customer in harm's way, how can this company get away with this. Sure, pay for extra insurance in case something happens to the vehicle, this btw would be intentional on their end, gross negligence and predatory behaviors and these are very serious matters.

Oh yes they were nice up front, I was honestly fooled, trusting... It was the WORST experience in my car rental history!! I rent a lot of vehicles because of my work... *** THIS PART IS THE WORST -- NEVER seen this and discussed upon my return to my home with several rental companies and this is outside of protocol!!! This is what happened--AFTER returning the car at the Airport in Durban -- rented in Pinetown -- with 3 of us inspecting the car, walking around, up and down side to side inspection, with our documents in our hands, we were given the green light post inspection -- wonderful! Joking around, with the staff, wishes of safe travels exchanged-- documents signed and tucked away back in my purse and hers in her hands, keys returned, deposit promised...

They write back HOURS after stating there were damages?!? What?!? I wrote back asking to prove that the damages were not done, between the time of my return and the time of email sent, no response, several emails after, no response... NOW Refuses to return the deposit and NO ONE replies to emails... I stress plural. HOW IS THAT LEGAL?? Nowhere does that!!! THEN the invoice they sent does not equal the amount they took. it states the amount without the deposit, Yes you guessed right the amount they took is MORE on the credit card than on the invoice. It is a sham, they are incredibly dishonest and I would 100% stay away. You guessed right again, they are not replying to emails! So yes they are nice, but that niceness is worth nothing when there is so much dishonestly and lack of transparency, and worse, no communication! RETURN MY MONEY!

The experience during (this was mentioned at car drop off and the lady whom I thought was a darling--the one that ended up screwing us over---said we should write to the head office) regarding all the nonstop texting if we go over the sped limit....we weren't even speeding! In the slow lanes, cops would drive past us, and then bam a text stating we were speeding!?! NO details as to the where, Nor specifically when or where is the radar as it is supposed to be indicated CLEARLY by law... Nope just you are speeding and in a text-no less while driving, we are supposed to read a 2 paragraph text --- all the time?! Unsafe while driving, and non-stop threatening to keep deposit.

That alone is unjust and does not encourage safe driving when you have to literally stop in the middle of the highway with cars behind, because the speed changed from 120 to 80 in Durban then up then down (if anyone drives the highways in SA they know it changes speeds often and drastically and sometimes not even indicated. So we drove slow, with cars and trucks passed us, stressing over limits then again... we will get a text with the threat.

ICING on the cake, when I wanted to complain on an appropriate platform---and this was hilarious, they send the link for customer satisfaction, the link expires after one day, one day--nope time out you cannot share your experience anymore... and to add, if you email to get justice, understanding explanation--- Nothing... so horrible customer service, horrible horrible horrible.

Mexican Car rental. My experience was the only part of my beautiful vacation in Mexico that was terrible!! It began great with selections of a vehicle online you were given general descriptions and you can choose economy, or a range of other levels mid-size, full-size sedan, to premium or SUV. I had a 14-day total trip and it was three (3) in our family so we thought it wise to get a full-size vehicle, and the example given for this was a VW Passat. I thought that was Ok? For our luggage and travel needs. It was also very reasonable in cost with insurance it was just under $60/day some other taxes brought my total to just over $750.00 for 10 days in Cabo San Lucas.

When I arrived, a ** tourist, in a Spanish-speaking country in the middle of a weekday. I was greeted at the gate by a swarm of salespeople who wanted to sell me a timeshare in one of the beautiful resorts. I excepted an invitation to one of the nice newer hotels; not aware that the sales company was worse than buying a used car and just as painful as your worst dentist appointment. But that’s another story.

After I passed the gauntlet of timeshare salespeople, I was walked to the shuttle to the rental office. After a short 15-20 min wait the lady at the desk asked for my Passport and driver’s license as expected, and informed me that my already negotiated rental agreement wasn’t valid because I had to purchase the collision and comprehensive coverage that they provide if I wanted The vehicle that was at best an economical Toyota Corolla and not a VW Passat. My contact price was going to be just over $2,200.00.

I was astonished by the difference and asked for more information. I informed her that I paid for full coverage thru Expedia and here is my receipt, she went on to explain that my auto rental contract was only $550.00 USD and that the insurance was about $1,650.00USD; after I requested more details and told them that my American Express Membership provided my family and I with free auto insurance as a member as well!! She said that wasn’t acceptable and that I was invited to go elsewhere to another company because she knew that they had no cars.

I finally asked her what could I do if I decided not to get the coverage, she gave me the option to charge $16,500 on my credit card, as a security on the vehicle and then I could pay the rental only at $550.00. We continued to talk, as I was losing my mind, I asked to speak to a manager who was called to the desk, another timeshare salesperson who said, "Not to worry, I will help you!!" He spoke to the agent at the desk and I was able to secure the lowest amount of coverage for about $65.00/day USD my contract was now just over $1,100.00 USD, almost $500.00 more than what I had reserved thru Expedia. Then wait for it. If I agreed to go to yet another timeshare appointment they would knock off $450.00/USD off the bill, after I spend yet another day of my vacation with salespeople instead of my family and the beautiful resort by the pool sipping a nice cool drink!!!

I took a photo of his Identification, because It seemed like he was the manager, as he went from desk to desk, relentlessly peddling his timeshares, to other clients trying to rent from Europcar!! Because I agreed to go see the hotel he invited me to an upgrade in vehicle and I was given a VW small crossover of some sort. Even with the upgraded car The back seat and trunk were full of luggage and the baby’s car seat. But we made our way to the hotel, to finally begin our family vacation.

I had a flat tire during our running about from hotel to hotel, and found the office of Europcar in the city of Cabo San Lucas; found out that because I paid only $60.00/day that insurance doesn’t cover the flat tire, and it would cost $200-300 for a new tire. But I found a tire place and purchased a new tire and replaced the spare, with very little fuss, the local guy charged us just 300 Mexican pesos. That’s a total of less than $20.00 USD because we tipped him including tip. So not everyone is a crook, in Cabo. I also learned that he paid less than $30.00 USD for his auto insurance as full coverage on a monthly basis. This was surprising that the rental car company, made it sound, as if all insurance in the country was unbelievably expensive.

The story doesn’t end there I went to the timeshare appointment where they were asking me for a small fortune to sign up for the time share, they wanted me to give them a deposit of over $25,000, and payments of about 700.00 a month, I told them I purchased my home for less money, and my mortgage was about 800.00/mo. I decided to walk away and they came down to $2,000/ down payment and 200.00/mo. Ultimately; I decided to pass on the entire business opportunity and paid the $1,100.00 for my rental car. Mexican vacation spot was the most beautiful place I had ever seen, both the one they showed me and the one I rented thru Expedia. I had a great time at El Gran Rancho that was just outside of Cabo San Lucas. But totally worth what was paid.

The moral of this long story and what I hope others will see; don’t rent a car in Mexico, but if you must don’t go to Europcar!!! I will try to copy this long story and post everywhere possible. Beware of this company; Oh the car we rented, had to be professionally cleaned on our second day, as when it was delivered to us it was absolutely disgusting. Including the strange stain in the passenger seat, that was fresh and damaged my wife’s dress pants. All in all, I wouldn’t give these people the time of day. I think I will pay more to go with one of the other rental companies with some sort of ethics!!

When we arrived, we found out that the car insurance wasn't included in what we paid on EconomyBookings, so I have no clue what the $70 insurance we did pay for was. On top of what we already paid, the basic insurance that Europcar asked for included a deposit of $13,333 and was about $70 per day. I couldn't put down that deposit, so the next plan was a $600 deposit and $150 per day! It is a ridiculous price that was not shown to us anywhere.

They also have ridiculous fees for things as simple as the tank being slightly under where it was left. If it is even a little under, it is a $300 penalty, plus more per liter. Even worse, we couldn't get a refund on what we had paid to EconomyBookings because of the cancellation policy, and Europcar said they hadn't received any money from us. So where did our $300 go?? So we cancelled, lost the money, and discourage anyone from using EconomyBookings or Europcar. We lost our money, our time being waiting for more than an hour and a half and when doing the complaint, customer service was terrible, using cell phones while talking to us.

We booked a rental car (MG 3 5-door) in Australia through the Europcar app. During the booking process we made sure we would have maximum available coverage for the vehicle as we have been in a car accident in the past where we got hit by a semi truck by no fault of ours and therefore always make sure we get the maximum insurance coverage available. Once bitten twice shy.

When we got to the Europcar office in Southport, QLD Australia for the pickup, the lady at the desk asked us if we would like to upgrade our insurance coverage. We reply, we thought we had the maximum coverage available. She said no, there would be a PREMIUM version for an additional AUD $330. Strangely enough this option wasn’t offered to us when we booked. We felt like this company is luring people in with outstanding pricing but then is trying to recoup some of the money with add-ons. We agreed to the extra insurance package and paid the amount looking forward to a worry-free few weeks.

During our rental period a semi truck passed us causing a rock hitting the windshield. We mistakingly thought damage to the windshield was excluded from the insurance policy so we immediately brought the vehicle in for glass repair in order to prevent any damage from progressing. We brought the car in within an hour of the incident and the glass company assured us that this was repairable as the glass had not fractured past the top layers and it was just “a superficial puck”.

The day we returned the vehicle we told the lady in the office what happened and that we had the car in for glass repair. The lady said, “oh you didn’t need to do that as you have maximum coverage for your rental. You could literally have written the car off and did not have to pay anything.” She went on to say that she would see if we even could get reimbursed for the AUD $77 for the repair. It seemed strange to us that she still insisted we would sign a damage report although she assured us "this is just a formality and does not have any consequences because, again, you have maximum coverage.”

Now an astoundingly 6 weeks after we returned the car, Europcar sent us a bill for a glass repair, which, by the way, seems way to high for what the repair was. Europcar was pretty quick in sending us multiple emails asking us to leave a review, yet it took them 6 weeks to send us a repair bill? Oh right. As the repair bill states, the work has been executed 6 weeks after we returned the car which means this vehicle has most likely been rented out to other customers and they were driving it around just fine. Roadworthiness being affected by the chip not an issue.

We are shocked about the lack of training Europcar’s staff receives and the misinformation they provide to customers. (Our deductible wasn’t $0 like we were told turns out it was in fact $825). We were advised completely wrong. Be aware that, when you decide to opt for the PREMIUM insurance package, which cost in our case an additional $330 on top of the cost of Medium coverage for an MG 3, you still have to pay $825 to cover the repair of a rock chip. This is $1155 you spend to have a rock chip of about 2mm in diameter fixed. Something that can be considered fair wear and tear. The rock chip was not even in the driver's field of vision. As a matter of fact it was actually partially covered by a sticker Europcar applied to the windshield in the upper right corner.

Europcar Australia advertises on their own website a “Zero excess amount” for the PREMIUM coverage. Europcar also states on their website that windscreen together with tires and lights are covered. See pictures. In reality non of this is true. Now they tell us they will just go ahead and bill us to our CC. Nope not happening. Beware of this company and their practices. Their advertisement is misleading, their staff is giving customers false information and the way they deal with customers is highly disappointing to say the least.

I paid for an SUV to be rented in Spain. I PREPAID for it, and mentioned that I would pick it up around 9am. I showed up late since I was on a tour just to find out that my car was given away (I actually didn't think this would be a problem since I PAID FOR THAT DAY). They said there is a 2 or 3 hour rule - in the contract (which I read and didn't find anything). I was given a compact car, with no refund. I was treated with a lot of disrespect as well. When I got home, I received a claim for a damage (and a fine for not claiming that damage). If I could attach a picture of this damage, nobody would ever rent from these guys again. The windshield on the very bottom has two tiny white dots the size of a speckle. They call it "cracked windshield". They are refusing to prove what was there before because IT IS ON ME TO PROVE it wasn't there before. These two dots can only be found if you specifically know where they are. What a mess!

As many of the complaints on here Europcar forces you to purchase THEIR insurance at a price higher than the actual rental fee for the actual car. They do not inform you of the rate or the requirement until you are at the counter and have no choice to continue your trip. They charge your card that you must submit to get a car and you have no path to dispute or be considered for fair reimbursement. They are CRIMINALS and should not be allowed to rent cars to anyone under their practices. They screwed numerous vacationers during The Open Championship and ruined vacations and overcharged at will. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!

Do not - under any circumstances - rent a car with Europcar at Gatwick. They are thieves from the beginning to the end of the experience. Completely agree with the other reviews about the upselling, the demands for more fees on CDW and insurance. I came in with a signed, completed contract for a car. They still charged me an additional 200 pounds. Then when I returned the car three days early they still charged me for the entire duration. The manager then lied to me about sending a refund. ("It will show up on credit card" - never did). The extent of the deception and scummy service was so much that I suspect there is some corporate directive to do these things. Thus - NEVER - rent with Europcar at Gatwick. Even if desperate, go book a taxi, it will cost you less in the end. Good, safe travels for all.

Rated 1 out of 5 stars. Illegal, dangerous tires that could have killed me but I had to pay to repair… The worst of a long line of appalling experiences using Europcar for courtesy cars, via Motability. On this occasion, 2 weeks into the courtesy car period, a flat tire. Our responsibility to fix it according to the contract. Take the car to KwikFit - and it’s not only the one flat, with a rusty nail rammed into it for weeks, but three of the tires are completely, illegally bald. Kwikfit say Europcar are notorious for getting customers to pay for repairs.

Fortunately, Motability had to pay for this (£300 +) this time, but thank you, Europcar for sending this disabled customer out into the world in an illegally dangerous vehicle. Kwikfit advised that if I’d attempted to drive any distance on the motorway, I’d probably be dead. Absolutely appalling. Date of experience: 24 October 2022, U.K.

We explicitly declined the premium protection insurance since we were using a credit card that is taking care of that. The agent threaten us with unreasonable repercussions and we still insisted. We received a contract and signed expecting our wishes to be honored. When we reviewed our credit card statement weeks later the charged amount was $ 600 over the price written on our voucher, which we understood as the actual contract amount to be paid. When examining the copy of the written contract we found a charge for the premium protection we explicitly declined. It looks the agent disregarded our wishes and charged us the amount without disclosure. After complaining to Europcar we were charged another $ 45 three weeks after returning the car without an explanation. Do not rent from this company, it's a criminal organization.

We rented a car and they kept insisting we buy the insurance. We declined. Our car was in the dark back corner of the lot and they told us to inspect the car and note any damages. Meanwhile they have a very bright area with lots of lights but no way to drive there. On returning the car they found a tiny scratch and want to charge 600+ euros to fix it. There were several other scratches on the car the same size they never fixed. Probably won't fix this one and keep the money.

My wife had previously rented a car from Europcar in Thessaloniki a few months earlier. While there were more affordable options available from other companies (which I would have preferred), based on her positive experience, we chose Europcar again for our summer vacation in Greece – BIG mistake. About a week into our vacation, while driving on the freeway, the passenger side’s exterior plastic cover, went flying. There was no collision, no contact with any object – just a cheaply made “snap on” plastic part that decided it had enough and needed to get away from the car. Had it fallen off before? Was it only lightly affixed by the rental car people after a previous renter had damaged it? We will never know. Due to fast flowing traffic, we were unable to stop and retrieve the part, though, however we immediately notified the rental car people at KINSEN HELLAS in writing (email). There was no response.

A week later, when it was time for us to return the vehicle, the local manager (Mr. **) advised that we were going to be held responsible for the “damage”. There was no explanation as to why we never heard back from them after our initial report. I guess that’s Europcar’s way of doing business? My wife and I then refused to sign any admission of “guilt” but were told we had to sign a form before we could discuss the matter further inside. Once inside, we were told that against our knowledge we had signed a form, agreeing that we were responsible for the "damage". The repair fee would be 57€. As Mr. **’ behaviour turned from angry to aggressive to downright combative, we decided to leave to keep the peace. Upon our arrival back home, I noticed that KINSEN HELLAS has actually charged us 88 € for the damage, not 57€ as originally stated.

My wife and I both feel that it is not our responsibilty to pay for a part that fell off a cheaply manufactured Italian budget car (Fiat Panda). The kicker was the station manager’s behavior, though, who in the end – when we decided to leave to avoid further confrontation – taunted us with “Have a nice day”, while joking around with his co-workers and making additional comments, we could not understand. So much about customer service and the training of employees within the Europcar organization. I will never do business with those people again – would you?

Made rental reservations for Fox Rent A Car (Guayaquil Ecuador Airport) on the Expedia site, Fox car rental is owned by Europcar. The main reason I picked this company is it offered unlimited miles, I even showed them this when I picked up the car and paid at the airport. When I returned the car they tell me that I owe $430 for going over the miles as its not unlimited. I asked for a mgr/supervisor so I can discuss (no Mgr to call or speak to I was told), since the rep that was there said she it was expedia's fault because they had an error on the site. She also said I have to pay or she will call airport police and I won't be allowed to board my flight home. I paid so I can get back to the US and dispute with Corporate, Expedia and Amex.

When I tried looking for a contact # for Europcar Customer Service, there is only an email, which proved to be useless. Called Expedia and they emailed me back 5 days later that they had the same luck I did reaching Europcar, I was told if I would have paid with Expedia they would have given me a refund. But like I paid with Fox Rent A Car there was little Expedia can do to get my money back. I disputed charge with Amex, after about a month later was denied dispute by Amex as I signed for the $430 charge and the original bill didn't say unlimited miles. I told Amex that the original bill failed to say there was a limit to the amount of miles the rental came with. Long story short, use another car rental company if you don't want to get fleeced.

More than this, after our complaint, they acknowledge that we were charged a much more higher price and promised to reimburse us but never did it. They even failed to provide the correct invoice. The representative in the Ben-Gurion Airport acknowledge that they have multiply errors in the invoice and promised correct them and send a correct invoice. They never did it.

The Europcar website advertises that the price includes VAT (Israel Tax). Again, it’s not true, even after I showed them the email confirming that my price already includes VAT they are charged VAT on the top VAT that I already paid. About the car, it was the car that had multiply mechanical issues and every attempt to communicate to the Europcar (Israel) was just a waste of time and money. Please be aware if you will try to use not local cellphone you will never reach an operator. In conclusion, the worst rental company and service in the world. This rental car company is appalling; we have tried to use them three times and had a terrible experience each time. The last two times they accepted our booking (even taking a pre-payment in the second case) only to later cancel due to 'lack of availability' of cars within 24 hours of the booking. The most recent case I actually rang them directly as the website apparently does not reflect the actual availability. They told me on the phone they had a car and that it was confirmed. We walked to the car hire place (a 45 min walk across town) and then were told that our booking had been cancelled. They claimed that an e-mail was sent within two hours of the booking saying that no cars were available - lies!!! - I never received any cancellation e-mail. I also gave my phone number to the operator when I booked the car, they claimed that they did not have it on file.

If you actually call the company directly they should be able to tell you if they actually have the b*oody car in stock!!!! ***No other car hire company we have used is this incompetent*** When we call directly we have never ever had an issue with the car we reserved not being available, if you make a reservation with Europcar it means nothing(!). There were multiple customers in the same situation as us when we went to pick up our car in Oxford only to be told the reservation had been cancelled. When you book with Europcar your reservation can be randomly cancelled anytime within 24hrs (as was our experience the previous time), this is a disaster when travelling.

This company has caused our family so many headaches with terrible customer service, pointless website that does not actually reserve the car yet will still take your money and make you wait while the refund is processed, or even if you call them directly you have no idea if you actually have a car. If you read this review and still make the mistake of booking with Europcar then it is at your own peril. We have used dozens of car hire companies over the years and Europcar is by far the worst (the prices are not even the most competitive based on our experience). Never, ever, ever again... Just awful... :(

Early this year we had planned a trip to Germany. I booked our rental car month in advance. I requested and paid for a SUV. Upon arrival (after 24 hours of travel, with a US Veteran with severe PTSD) we were told they had no car for us. They told me to come back in 45 minutes and they will see what they can do for us. I returned after 45 minutes and they still had no car. Another lady who worked there said she will take over and see what she can do. I thought she was being nice and tried to really help us. Well it turned out she was a professional scammer. She told me I could have a station wagon but I would have to pay more because it is an upgrade. I told her that I do not think a station wagon is an upgrade from a SUV and why should I have to pay, it is not our fault that they have no car for us.

We rent cars every year (from a different company) and if they don't have what we requested they always upgrade us at no charge at all. So after already having pre paid approx. $1200 I had to pay another $450 for the station wagon and on top of it I was FORCED to take their insurance even though I already had my own. When I told her I did not want the insurance I was told then I could not get the car. We were exhausted, tired and hungry... at an airport still 1.5 hours away from our destination. I had no choice so I had to pay a total of 650 euro extra to get the car.

After we returned to the United States I wrote a email to the company. At first I did not even get a response for weeks. After emailing about 3 times they emailed me back and said they were not present and are not able to give us any compensation since they don't know what was said at the pick up location. Never in my life was I treated anywhere like this. Nor have I been forced to take a car insurance that was not needed. Please if you can avoid it DO NOT RENT FROM EUROPCAR. Take your business elsewhere where you are treated right.

I rented a car from Europcar Sicily in June through their online website. I wanted C3 diesel, but was given C3 gas version which has higher consumption. Their first scamming attempt was in their office in Palermo, where their employee said that I have basic insurance, even though I took full insurance online. After returning car, other employee signed a document with me which stated that the car was without a scratch and initiated deposit return (so she claimed at the time). But even after 2 months, I still didn't get my deposit.

I have reached their customer support several times asking for a deposit refund. One of their responses claimed that refund was issued, but the card issuer probably still didn't released funds to me. Then I asked for payment confirmation, so I could raise a issue with card issuer, but they never send me one and stopped responding to my inquiries. Probably because they still, after two months, didn't refunded me. One of the reasons why I chose Europcar is because they are big company, well established and I thought that we wouldn't have that kind of problems. I actually paid more (they are not the cheapest rentacar on the market) for that security, but was left disappointed nevertheless.

BEWARE OF NEW SCAM. We rented a car from Europcar in Sardinia. As usual, we took photos/videos of the exterior and interior including the roof and the underbody. We asked the agent to show us the various controls on the car. She opened the car with the Remote Key. Other than being rather dirty the car appeared to be fine. We drove the car for 17 days and returned to Alghero. We dropped the car off around 6.30 am. There were no staff present. Later that day we received an email saying that the car was damaged...the driver's door lock was broken and the key would not fit. Note this vehicle has a Remote Key which was the only thing we used during the whole trip. These scammers then charged me 225 Euros for a lock repair. My insurance company is now dealing with this. DO NOT RENT from this company!
