We are being totally RIPPED off by this company. We rented a car for three days in Ravenna, Italy and dropped it off at Milan Airport. We received a bill for over 800 Euros a couple of months later for every little ping that was ever on the car which, unfortunately, we never took a picture of. We disputed it and they dropped it to 400 Euros. I have disputed the charge on my credit card. We caused ABSOLUTELY no damage to this car. Do not EVER rent from Europcar and if you do make sure you get LOTS and LOTS of pictures!!!

Fraudulent company. London Heathrow office employee required us to take an optional insurance we did not need before he would rent the vehicle. This occurred in August of 2025. We then cancelled within their 24hr window and have all documentation yet they refuse to refund the money. This company supports their employees using coercive tactics to obtain additional revenue. Terrible customer service in Punta Cana. They gave my car away while my flight was delayed. They wanted to charge more 25 dollars a day for 14 days on top of 800 I just paid. They did not honor the insurance I purchased. They wanted a statement from my bank of 3500 dollars. The person was rude. It really disgusted me. After I called Routes the rental car and they helped me out. I was able to rent a car and only 300 deposit. I love ROUTES and the person working there. They are cheap and always willing to help you. But Europcar suck ass so much. Please please never rent from them. They will leave you stranded without help.

My experience is the same as others. Rented a car London Gatwick South Terminal. Told the clerk "No Thank you" to insurance. She snuck it in and quickly told us to sign. Super tired and too trusting that she heard me properly I signed. $755 extra charge for Premium Insurance. Google reviews, Trust Pilot, Trip Advisors etc.. Read it all, scathing reviews. This is a horrible company which I guess is seeing how long they can get away with this practice. Sad to see so many people being scammed and nothing being done.

I rent a car in Greece at the airport. I was forced to buy insurance for the vehicle at the time. Insurance was provided by my MasterCard. They tell me that they don’t accept insurance from MasterCard or Expedia. I had to pay right there and then in order for them to release the car to me. It was hidden charges which they were not specified on their website and also sure I forgot my cell phone in the car.
I’ve been calling over and over again. The answer that I get is, "We talk to my associate and there was no phone in the car," there’s like I am crazy calling from the US to Greece just to waste time. They tell me, "We’ve been asking the associates and they tell me there was no phone." One time they tell me first time the car has been sold. Second time, "I’m gonna check at the parking lot save the car is still there to look if your phone is there." Third time the car has been in the mechanics.
First time the car has been to be washed and clean otherwise they be giving me the runaround. I tell them they have associate that steals items from Cars instead take them to Lost and Found department and they tell me, "How dare you calling our associate thieves with no evidence." The only evidence that I have and I know for sure that I left my phone at the car. Phones do not fly away from cars. Somebody stole it. It had to be one of the associate, the bottom line is the worst company so beware if you forget something in the car, you said goodbye because you ain’t gonna see it again and be aware of insurance.

This is my second time renting from Europcar, and both times have been nothing short of infuriating. First was in Ireland and more recent in Los Cabos, Mexico. Their shady, bait-and-switch tactics seem to be standard practice. I booked through Priceline and paid the full amount in advance, only to be ambushed at the airport and told I had to buy their liability insurance because it was “the law.” That’s a blatant lie—I was in Cabo just a few months ago and rented from Localiza with zero issues. At this point, Europcar feels like a complete scam operation, and I’m done wasting my time and money on them.

Rental made through a third party (Capital One) for $350 for two weeks. Upon arrival, I was told the car wasn’t available and I’d have to upgrade to a different car for an extra 20 gbp per day. This somehow included several hundred in taxes on top of the payment I’d already made. I ended up paying an extra $600 on top of the $350 it should’ve cost. Customer service was no help.

We reserved our car months in advance of our trip to Italy, specifically requesting the Fiat 500 advertised on their site, and paying in advance. A few days before our trip, we decided that we wanted to pick up the car in the morning, instead of in the afternoon. This resulted in a 230 euro upcharge. The staff at the rental desk could not help us and told us we could file a complaint with customer service regarding this ridiculous charge. When we got to the train station to pick up the car, it was not a Fiat 500, it was a Lancia and it looked like it had been in a demolition derby. There was damage on all sides of the car; not just a scratch here and there, but big dents and scrapes on every door, fender and bumper.
When we started to drive, an alarm went off every time we turned a corner. It took us a while to figure it out, but there on the dashboard, in Italian, were scrolling warning messages indicating critically low oil and coolant. We didn't want to waste hours of our vacation returning the car but we didn't want to be stuck roadside with a blown engine either, so we went to a petrol station and had the oil and coolant filled. Obviously, they don't service their cars between customers. The car was disappointing, but the customer service was even worse. We did file a complaint regarding the up charge and the condition of the vehicle and got no response. We would never consider renting from Europcar again.

To all Americans planning to rent a car here, beware! This company is the worst. I've rented cars my whole life and I've never seen such a scam. I reserved my car online and paid approximately $400 for 4 days, which seemed like a normal price and included $90 for insurance. When I arrived, they told me I had to pay an additional $1000 for insurance. Yes, you read that right, $1000 more! So, the 4 or 5 days were going to cost me $1500, since they said they would only refund me $100 of that. This is a scam! I told them I wanted to rent a car, not buy it.
I called the supervisor and told him it was absurd and that I had never seen anything like it. After arguing with him for half an hour, they reduced the price by $500, so I ended up paying $1000 for 5 days, which is still outrageous. It's expensive, and I wonder why these companies do this and nobody does anything. They should be sanctioned; it's consumer abuse and fraud. They do whatever they want and take advantage of people. This can't continue. This happened to me at Barcelona airport, so be careful if you rent there; don't let them scam you. It's better to look for American companies.

Upon returning the car, there were so many additional charges that my rental went from $900 for 9 days to $1,800. Customer service was terrible and rude, and unwilling to even work with me. If I could give a zero star review I would. We arrived to pick up our car. We reviewed options that we wanted, insurance coverage, and then they printed out the contract. When I looked at the contract to sign it, I noticed the price was considerably higher. They had added in options for insurance that I did not want and did not need because my own insurance company covers my rental cars. So the whole process had to be repeated while we stood there waiting. We supposedly had a five passenger car, but the backseat was so narrow. There was no way a third person could comfortably fit. And we are a very skinny family. The absolute worst was after the rental they sent the charge for the tolls to my credit card company. My credit card company bounced the charge. I notified my card company the same day that the charge was legitimate. But they said I needed to contact Europcar to get them to resubmit the charge.
There’s no phone number that worked for them in Portugal. Everything is done by email. I emailed on September 27. By October 21 I still didn’t have a response so I called into another office in London. I was given a different email for Customer Service. And I was told I could call the finance department and pay the toll. I called the number and it was not a working number. I sent an email explaining the situation and several days later. I heard back and they said they cannot resubmit the charge and I have to wait until the Toll Concession contact me only to find out that they add a ridiculous fine for the late fee of 7 1/2 times the toll fees. All of this could’ve been prevented had they responded in a timely manner. I do not recommend doing business with this completely unprofessional company.

Staff were pleasant at pick-up but immediately started to upsell by noting deficiencies of booked car. In selling the Damage Waiver, they did not mention the £2,100 deductible, which after an unfortunate incident I had to pay. For every charge to your account, they apply an administration fee of either £50 or £100. Their correspondence repeatedly points to sections of the rental agreement that no one would have time to read before taking away their car. This was my first and last time using Europcar.

I had a mixed bag of experiences on this particular trip with Europcar. The last time I used them in Costa Rica all went well. First up, when I flew into Newcastle (NSW) and went to pick up the prebooked car, I was told they didn't have any on the airport lot. They suggested I catch a taxi to their other site with a fellow traveller who was also left high and dry. We did at a cost of $84. Got there, only had Electric cars, none were fully charged. I ended up getting a BMW (lovely) 1/2 charged (enough for my needs), instead of the original small regular car I booked - slight bonus. The fellow assured me that I would not be charged for dropping it back to the airport because that's where I was supposed to pick it up in the first place. Got it back and lo and behold there was a charge for dropping it back at the airport.
I emailed the company (I always find out who the CEO or manager is so I can CC them - helps). It took a little time but my half of the taxi fare($42) and the charge for dropping at a different location was paid back to me. Sooo, bottom line, while things didn't go smoothly at least the company recognised their error and reimbursed me the monies that I should never had have to outlay in the first place. For this I was grateful. I'll give them one more chance because they have competitive prices.

Mistake #1 booked Eurocar. The car was ok, reasonably priced, but all scratched and dinged up… over a dozen different areas… They require you to do your own inspection and to call to ensure that they have catalogued all the issues. So, I took a video of the whole car. When we returned it, the inspector made a bee line for a spot that can only be seen from about 6 inches from the ground, my video was blurry and didn’t clearly capture this spot, the guy says sign here, I say ‘no, it says “one new damage”, I don’t agree’… he leads me to believe that if I sign they will fix everything and the office, just show them the video (mistake#2 I signed). The office guy says that charging customers for dings is a revenue stream for them… at least he was honest… DON'T USE EUROPCAR.

If you have a lot of extra time, don’t care about customer service, or don’t mind driving a dirty car, EuropCar/Fox Rent A Car in Orlando might be the company for you. Otherwise, avoid them at all costs. The location is not at the Orlando Airport — it’s a 15-minute shuttle ride away, which makes pick-up and return extremely inconvenient. For my 7 a.m. flight, I had to leave more than an hour earlier than usual just to return the car and wait for the shuttle back to the airport.
They also held a deposit on my credit card and returned only half of it, claiming it was due to “insurance” I never agreed to.
To make matters worse, the car was dirty — the steering wheel, dashboard, and handles hadn’t been wiped down. When I asked for a clean car, the desk staff told me, “We don’t have thoroughly cleaned cars.” I had to disinfect it myself. They don’t inspect cars before departure — customers are expected to write down any existing damage and hand it in before leaving. The lot attendant even told me, “Every customer leaves here angry.” He was right. This was, without question, the worst rental car experience I’ve ever had. I’ve used Thrifty and Dollar Rental car in Orlando on previous trips and they weren’t perfect but they were far better and more convenient than EuropCar/Fox Rent A Car. I’ll never rent from EuropCar/Fox Rent A Car again and strongly recommend others avoid this company.

They’ve had the car in their possession for months and are just now adding new charges with no communication or proof. This feels like a complete scam. I’ve reached out multiple times and have gotten no response or help. I’ve been incorrectly charged over $1,000 total, and Europcar has made no effort to justify or explain these charges. I would strongly warn anyone against renting from Europcar — their billing practices are deceptive, and their customer service is nonexistent.

Booked a 24 day rental from London airport with (Keddy) Europcar through economybookings.com of Riga, Latvia. I was mindful of all the bad reviews including difficulty getting refunds when economybookings bills the customer immediately. At Europcar's check in I was offered opportunity to upgrade as lots of automatic gear, hybrids (more economical), with GPS were available - as if there was no extra charge. When I pressed I was advised that there would be a charge of more than 30GBP per day.
I was then on receiving end of the insurance hard sell - using the scare tactic that I could be on hook for maximum 100k. I asserted repeatedly that I had cover through my US visa card and break down coverage too through AAA. At the end of all this the check-in woman went off duty leaving my credit card in their car reader - facing customer seating area.
Returning car. John went straight to front tires and was very quick to highlight small gouges on the upper wall of each. He then demanded timestamped photos of these to prove that we were not responsible. We had several pictures of the bodywork, which had scuffs and minor scratches in numerous places but none of tires. John then insisted that this was our fault and asked me to sign a return form. I refused.
Nine days later Europcar email insisting on my liability. I wrote back demanding that they produce photographs themselves to prove undamaged tires before our rental. They ignored this request. I have alerted my US credit card of their likely attempt to bill me and will dispute any attempts to take money from this account. Given my experience and so very many well written and completely plausible others - I would infer that this company deliberately practices price gouging in every aspect of its customer service to augment revenues. It is obviously unethical, and time consuming and stressful for those who should be enjoying their holiday experience.
I do think it is appropriate that BVLRA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) among others should properly investigate this company's dubious business practice. It is very clear to me that they produce minimal and badly described damage reports for customers picking up, then go above and beyond to find damage on return and bully customers into accepting liability or take without consent from their deposits. This IS disgraceful.

I made the reservation about two months prior to my arrival. When I arrived in Dusseldorf Germany, they didn't have the car I reserved. They offered me another car which was an upgrade to what I reserved. My thinking was, because they did not have the vehicle I reserved, the upgrade was given at the same price.
We go the rental car garage and locate the car, loaded up the luggage and did a quick walk around and look for any visible damage. There was no one from Europcar in the garage to confirm the car was free of damage. Off we go, ten days of a European road trip Great!! Everyone was happy and we are having a good time. A few days into our vacation I get a notification of a charge from Europcar and the amount was doubled from the original reservation. I didn't want to deal with it while on vacation and decided to do so when back at the airport.
We pulled in the car return, unloaded our luggage and waited for the attendant. As we waited, I watch the attendant inspecting the car in front of us and was quite surprised how detailed the return process was. I thought it was strange to have this level of inspection upon return and no inspection when you pick the car up.
When the attendant came to us, he the took the keys, checked the fuel, and did a walk around. Afterwards, he started feeling around the bottom of the car. He gets to the passenger side of the car and finds some scratches on the very bottom of the fender. I could feel them but could not see them. I explained to him, we did not damage the car and asked why someone did not inspect the car with us during pick up. I was advised to ask someone at the counter. He took pictures, and fill out some forms on their computer and then gave me the damage report and asked me to sign. Which i refused. This took longer than expected so we did not have the time to talk with the people at the front desk. Yesterday, I get a letter from Europcar containing an invoice for 1804.00 EUR which I will fight.
To make a long story short, I felt like this was a set up and they knew this vehicle had prior damage. I will never rent from Europcar again and would not recommend renting a vehicle from this company. My reservation was for 700.00 EUR and they are trying to collect an additional 2500.00 EUR from unsuspecting renters!! You've been warned :-(
