CarTrawler stole my deposit because I NEVER actually rented a car from THRIFTY car rentals. Now neither company will return the deposit to me. Budget, Thrifty, Dollar Rent A Car, Enterprise, Hertz, Payless Car Rental, Hawaiian Airlines, Expedia.com, Atlantic, Virgin, Travelstart And a long list of European travel companies use CARTRAWLER as third party online reservation service. BOYCOTT these companies until they STOP using this company. They are thieves and liars. You will be sorry!

Abandoned two vulnerable young women abroad and failed to refund inside 3 weeks (if at all - yet to be seen). As a direct result of this neglect, despite warnings about dangerous situation, they were robbed of all cash, valuables and passports. CarTrawler refused to process refund to assist and blocked correspondence systematically. Neglectful, unaccountable, irresponsible, immoral. Don’t go near this appalling company if you value honesty, safety or believe in basic human decency.

I have been traveling on a business trip to Kuwait and I have booked a rental car through CarTrawler, Upon reaching there was an issue with my credit card and I was talking to my bank to solve it. The Customer Service Manager from SIXT advised me to cancel the booking and get a refund, and also advised me to go for a local car rental office where credit card will not be needed. I told the manager clearly that I will not get a refund, and he assured to me that I will receive full refund. SIXT and myself communicated with CarTrawler and CarTrawler refused to refund and their reply by email was very unfriendly. This was a very bad experience and I will never deal with both companies again.

Cartrawler is classic BAIT & SWITCH scam. What a ripoff. Return time of day on the confirmation was incorrect by 7 hours. Total rental cost for 3 days - $89. Cost of the extra 7 hours - $195 plus tax etc. Fortunately had a backup reservation and only a small loss. Customer service completely supports the scam... Run the other way.

Booked online with who I believed was the actual rental car company. Although the Dollar Rental easily pulled my info and receipt I'm told my Visa/debit card couldn't be used so I asked if we could change it over to my husband's name. They proceed to tell me to contact the online customer service. After 30 mins of trying to understand the foreign lady I'm told, "Well your rental has expired! (We were there 30 mins early) You will need to redo everything as if it's a new rental."

I'm just silent thinking this is crazy then she says, "You may or may not get a refund?" So it's ok for someone to take payment for a service that was never provided??? $361.00 gone and told within 20 days we should have a resolution after I go home and start a "case" through email. I'm shocked my husband is angry. We then had to scramble around to find another car to drive from VA to STL to say goodbye to his mother who is dying. I'm hoping to see the refund. I've never had any problem getting one with anyone else straight away not 20 days later or worse nothing! Isn't this stealing?

Hired a vehicle through CarTrawler and was quoted a price of $422.62, paid £235.77 and got the confirmation email from Dollar USA saying that when I got to Orlando airport all I had to do was produce letter, driving license and pay $110. When I got there I was told I had to buy another cover called FDW which cost me $455.84 plus all the taxes that in all cost an extra $578.22.

Anyone thinking of using this service do yourself a favor and stay clear of CarTrawler and dollar, have been to Florida numerous times and never before been ripped off like this by any other company I have used, last time I used Alamo and paid £330 total in 2012 for a brand new Chrysler 300. I do have the original email quote and final receipt from Dollar as proof but don't have a scanner to upload them.

I made the mistake of prepaying online a 10-day car rental with Dollar on September 9th 2017. I did not know at the time that Dollar outsourced the actual "booking" to CarTrawler. When I reserved, I paid 1/2 of the rental charge. On Sept 14th I landed in Charlotte, went through reservations at Dollar, selected a car, walked around the car to ensure everything was OK, no scratches, normal car rental routine. Got to the front of the car, the small front lights were missing. I selected another car, walked around that one, it had a dent, but I said to myself Okay, I'm ready to go.

When I got to the exit, the booth person told me I could take the car, due to other damages. I had enough. I canceled the car rental. I did not feel comfortable. I asked about my refund for the online payment I made. They gave me the number to the booking agency, CarTrawler. They are totally unbelievable. I was told that It will take 20 days for me to possibly get a refund; they need time to Investigate. This is so outrageous. Stay away from both Dollar and CarTrawler. They are in it together. Dollar still has not release the hold. What a rip-off. I'll talk to my credit card company. Stay away.

I rented a car online from Dollar Car Rental in Washington D.C., because of my credit I wasn't allowed the car; they wouldn't take a deposit. I was asked to contact CARTrawler - here is the email from them; "Sending to you an email on how to file a case for refund. I regret to hear that you experienced problems during the rental. In order to resolve the problem for you, we will need to create a complaint ticket for you, where we are able to keep you informed as to the progress of the investigation. We will aim to resolve your complaint within 20 working days from when it is created, but it can depend upon the type of problem and who the car rental supplier was."

"In order to start the process, we will need you to click on the link below which will automatically log you into our customer portal, and where you can classify the nature of your complaint as you see it, provide us a description of what happened, and upload copies of documents that we will need to pursue your complaint. Please follow this link: https://www.cartrawlersupport.com. Then enter the reservation number (booking number) and email address (email address) to login. To create your ticket, click on the "Customer Support" button. After you have done that, please chose the inquiry type that best fits your complaint, then choose the inquiry description that best fits your complaint. You may then in the details box, provide us with a description of what happened - the clearer you can be, the faster we will be able to start the process of investigation."

"The next step is that you must choose "Yes" for the question "Would you like us to contact you". When you select "Yes", the options to upload documents become visible. If you do not select "Yes" the case will not be processed any further. Finally, if you have experienced any charges that you would like investigating, please make sure to attach the copies of proof charges, and of course your supplier agreement. As soon as your complaint has been created, within the next business day, we will start working on it. We look forward to assisting you further." Notice the 'criteria' to get my refund and how they state that I don't complete the requirements they will not continue with the investigation. I am filing a lawsuit in my local jurisdiction, it will cost them more to send someone to defend the lawsuit and I will get my money back.

Anyways Avis advised me to contact CarTrawler and get my money back but when I did, CarTrawler declined my request and they charged my card for a lease that DID NOT TAKE PLACE. Their customer relations team never replies back on time or simply reply saying 'You agreed to sign our terms and conditions and therefore we cannot help you further,' it was very disappointing. THIS BUSINESS IS A RIP OFF! In August 2017, I reserved a car for three days with Dollar Car Rental at Chicago's Midway Airport. I was flying into Midway from DC. I selected the online booking because it appeared to be the cheaper resource. I picked up the car on August 17th, but due to an emergency, I had to return the car after only one day's use on August 18th. When I contacted Dollar, I was told to contact CarTrawler to get the separate pre-booking amount. When I contacted CarTrawler I was informed that since I had prepaid, I was not entitled to a refund of the unused days.

I always book car rentals online. I selected Dollar because they were the cheapest option. None of the agencies that I frequently rent use a separate online booking agent. And certainly not one with such outrageous practices. Dollar charged me $114.23 and CarTrawler charged me $151.35. Had I kept the car for the entire three days, the total fee would have been $500! This is NOT explained on the website. I certainly did not agree to pay two companies for one rental, and I certainly did not agree to such an inflexible rental.

DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS FOR ANYTHING!!! I "thought" I was renting a car from Thrifty for a vacation in Atlanta, Ga. Turns out, it was through CarTrawler, which is apparently based in Ireland (so watch what number pops up on your phone when you try to call them... I was charged $27 for overseas but I never put in any overseas number). I chose the "prepaid" option for the car, which was $131.81, because it was about $50 cheaper than non-prepaid (if I had only known just how much this choice would cost me...), and then would be charged taxes/fees/etc., upon rental.

I picked up the car on August 18th at the Atlanta airport, but due to an emergency, I had to fly home on the 20th. I contacted both Thrifty and CarTrawler, but was told since I had prepaid, I was not entitled to a refund of the unused days. OK, don't like that, but buyer beware. I also signed an agreement for $109.92 at the airport which was for the taxes, etc. which comes to a total of $241.73. HOWEVER, my credit card was billed for a total of $376.56!!! No explanation, certainly ZERO damage or any other issue with the car.

I contacted Thrifty to be told that this was a "known glitch with CarTrawler", something about "taxes" since CarTrawler is in Ireland, and that I had to contact them directly. Well, I did (as well as dispute the charge with my credit card company!), and I just received an email from CarTrawler saying that they would "not be able to offer me a refund" as I was charged for what I agreed to! NO! I DID NOT AGREE TO ALMOST $400!! And there is NOTHING that says I did.

The service provided by the CarTrawler partner (Green Rental Car/ADDCAR) was unexpectedly rude. The staff tried to force me to accept and pay for additional optional insurance. After I declined this optional coverage, they started to treat me quite offensively, so I requested the cancellation of the reservation and went to another company (Thrifty), where I was treated with respect and provided a very high level of service, for the same price, without them trying to sell the optional insurance as mandatory.

Summing up. Pay attention when you book your car with CarTrawler using third-party application as there are many swindlers in the market and certainly the Green Rent a Car and AddCar companies located at 4041 NW 25th street, MIAMI, 33142, FL and its employees are highly instructed to force tourists to buy additional services, they are badly educated and were forcing me to pay for additional OPTIONAL insurance, according to them, mandatory for tourists in the state in Florida. All **, because there is no obligation with this type of insurance. After declined to buy additional (optional) insurance I called and opened a case with CarTrawler (responsible for the book), and they did not return all the money charged to my credit card. After that they just closed the case without any explanation. Please take care of this company.

Horrible customer service! I rented my vehicle through Volaris airlines with no knowledge that they utilize this company (Car Trawler). The vehicle was to be picked up from Budget at the Guadalajara airport kiosk. Upon our arrival, my family of 4 and I approached the kiosk and everything was going fine with the attendant until she offered us a $600 insurance package that would cover our 10 day car rental. I declined purchase of the insurance claiming that I had already purchased insurance through the airline (Volaris) at the time I made the reservation and that I had my confirmation certificate from Allianz Insurance. At this point, she picks up the phone without saying anything to me and she mentions to someone on the other end about our insurance. When she hung up, she immediately apologizes and tells us that unfortunately the car we had reserved had been in an accident and was not available for us.

It was obvious that it became unavailable after I declined purchase of the their insurance coverage. I asked what we could do and she said, she could only offer us the smallest car they had for the same price I had pre-paid through CarTrawler. I told her this would not accommodate my family and our luggage and her response was there was nothing she could do. I asked to speak to her supervisor and said I couldn't use her phone but I could take a taxi to take us to the main office outside of the airport to talk to someone. I tried calling Volaris and no answer. She then asked me if she should cancel the reservation and I said, no, I'm not canceling, I need a car! She said, "I don't have one for you and you need to tell me if I cancel." I ended up telling her, what else can I do and her response was that because I didn't reserve directly she could not help me and that she needed to put something in her system.

I told her, "ok, if you're canceling, give me a confirmation of the cancellation." Again, she refused and told me I had to follow through with the third party company (CarTrawler) since the reservation was made through them. At this point the neighbor rental companies (other kiosks) in the airport heard the conversation and tried to help me. I ended up renting a vehicle from Thrifty at 3 times the cost I had pre-paid through CarTrawler. Well, that same day when I was settled in at the hotel, I immediately called CarTrawler and notified them of the situation. A case was opened and I was instructed to send in all my information including the invoice of the new invoice for the vehicle I did rent for possible reimbursement. I was told it would take up to 20 days to be resolved. During the first 5 days, I checked the status and it said the case was closed.

I e-mailed them and they said I had to open a new case, which I did along with sending in all the information again (time consuming). What happens? Again 10 days later, closed again with no resolution. Again, I e-mail them and they re-open the case but ask me for all the information again and inform me that it will take 20 days (by this time it's been more than 15 completely wasted). Well, 20 days later I finally get a response that they CANNOT issue me a refund because their supplier (Budget) claimed that the vehicle was not available because I had to pick up the car at 1pm and I my flight arrived at 1:52pm but I didn't show up until after 2:30, therefore I was late and was marked as a "no show". Something that it is simply NOT TRUE and completely unfair to me, the customer.

I spoke to a manager, Mahasin and she refused to transfer my call to someone above her basically saying that there was no one above her and that nothing more could be done as long as the supplier (Budget) claimed I was a "no show" and that a full refund would not be given but as courtesy they would grant me $69 out of the $209.41 I was originally charged. This is very unfair since I never received the vehicle and what the supplier claims is completely false but yet CarTrawler is taking their word and refusing to credit my card. This company along with Budget (Guadalajara, Mexico) are a big rip off. I really hope that CarTrawler gets penalized for this fraud that they are doing to so many customers. Not only that but a situation like this completely ruins a family's vacation. Very, very bad company and customer service. DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING THROUGH AIRLINES THAT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!

Made Reservations, CarTrawler immediately took out payment for car. Upon arrival at destination I was told that Thrifty Car Rental would NOT rent me a car due to no major credit card/credit check (which I was never told about either). Asked to speak with Michael at Dollar. He told me the company was a fraud but yet they are associated with Dollar. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR CARTRAWLER!!! If I could give a minus score I would, I booked at taxi transfers from Naples to my hotel in Scala and return for a family holiday through these guys and now realise that was a complete mistake. On arrival at Naples my taxi "123Transfer" (or later to be know as "123NOTransfer") didn't turn up because of an "accident". I was told to get a taxi from outside the airport and I would be refunded. This taxi cost €160. When I told him he refused to pay, I contacted CARTRAWLER (being the agent) who said they would refund but only for half the money. I had paid them for one half of the journey, citing "the small print!!!" CarTrawler eventually refunded me half of my booking after numerous phone calls to them (using my own phone which created extra costs for me and extra anxiety whilst on holiday) but that still left €30 out of pocket.

I continually made phone calls to CarTrawler during my holiday. I ask for and got guarantees from them saying my taxi would be there for our return. But, you guessed it, "123NOTransfer" didn't turn up, I tried calling the taxi company and I could tell my calls were being refused. I also tried calling CarTrawler but could not get through. I then text "123NOTransfer" asking what was going on and all I got was was a reply saying "He was in Milan and that I should get another taxi", well with me being in Naples. Milan wasn't much used to me. By more luck than judgment we managed to find a local taxi and by the skin of our teeth we made the flight.

I advised CarTawler of the return problems by phone and email and was advised they would refund again. After numerous phone calls to them still no payment. It was always me chasing their Customer Services, which they don't understand the meaning of the word. The agents I spoke to were robotic and didn't care. I was lied to about the refund being told it had been processed only for me to find out (AFTER ANOTHER PHONE CALL TO THEM) that it hadn't. Even their manager was worst than useless and also didn't care, I was getting very cross with their attitude and was accused of using "bad Language" but when I challenged that comment they had no answer. I was demanding compensation for all the phone call I made to them but yet again I hit the "Brick Wall".

They don't have a customer services bone in their body. All the staff I spoke to were worst than useless and full of lies!!! I am still awaiting an official response to my emails!!! So Vadim, Roger, Lisa, Niall, Rowena thank you for all the lies you gave me, they can't be paying you much as all of you haven't got a clue about customer service. This company has to be a scam. It is very stealth in their business dealings online. They do business with multiple car rental companies but you are not aware when you book with Dollar or others that you are actually dealing with CarTrawler. I had my online $55.00 deposit stolen by the company as I tried to cancel an hour late due to a delayed flight at LAX. So no car and my money taken. My credit card was unable to reverse the charge due to the company's stealth policies. BEWARE of booking online with DOLLAR and others.

In June, I prepaid for a rental car on a website not knowing it was through a third party called, CarTrawler. When I arrived to my destination to pick up my rental car, I was told that the car rental place was not providing rentals that day due to a bad storm in the area, and the electricity had gone out at the car rental place. They told me to call CarTrawler to be reimbursed for the rental car I did not receive. I called CarTrawler, and they told me I would have to provide proof of receipts and documentation that I did not receive rental car, plus, I had to provide proof that I rented a car from another company. When I got my receipts together to email, the email would not go through! I called them again and the customer service rep told me that they could not handle it and I would have to call Dublin, Ireland the main head quarters to handle this. Why didn't they tell me this in the first place!!!

So, I call Dublin and they tell me they have to review my case and it could take up to 20 days but I have to provide proof. I tried to email them again with documentation and it states "This account is not managed." I've been trying for a month to get my money back that I have worked hard for without much success. Please stay away from this company! They give you the run around because they want to keep your money. I never ever write reviews, but for me to take the time to sign on to this Consumer Affairs website speaks volumes of my absolute disgust for this company!

I used one from Avis who did have a record of the booking but told me that their terms and conditions would not allow me to rent a car. I asked to cancel it and was told they could not do this and there was no Aer Lingus CarTrawler desk. I would therefore be charged for the full rental as a no show. I asked for another rental company with different terms. They were no help. Totally useless. Do not use these people.

They sent us a confirmation so we printed it out. About 5 minutes later CapOne sent me a possible fraud alert. I called them and they said the charge was from Cartrawler in Ireland. I said that I didn't know anything about that, but it was the same amount as my rental with Thrifty.

When I read the reviews of this company my husband called Thrifty and we gave them the confirmation number and they acted like they don't give numbers like that. It started out with US and then the number. We had just rented another vehicle from Thrifty and noticed that the numbers were very different. Thrifty said they couldn't even see our registration. Finally, after my husband getting frustrated with them he asked to speak to a manager. After speaking to him for a few minutes, he finally gave us the number to call Cartrawler and we called and canceled. There are other companies that use them so be careful. We were lucky. People have arrived at the airport with no car and no reservation. Thank you CapOne for the fraud alert, because it really is fraudulent.

In all my years using the web I have never written a review. Unfortunately I have had such a bad experience with this company that I felt compelled to write this review. A few days ago I prepaid for a car rental. We arrived 9.30 pm to the airport and went to the pickup area to be taken to the agency ADDCAR. After waiting one hour a shuttle never showed up to pick us up. We then decided to just take a cab to the car rental place. We arrived at the car rental place at 1030 pm (which was just an ugly shack outside of the airport). When we arrived the place was closed even though they claim to be open 24 hours on the website and open until 12 am on their answering service. Needless to say we are all very upset and had to take a taxi back to the hotel. I had to end up paying for the two taxis. It took more money than what I paid for the car!

I called in the morning directly to the agency and they told me that there was someone in the office till 10.35 pm and that I was lying about the time I arrived. To make matters worst I told them I would come and pick up the car now. They told me that my reservation is cancelled and the money I paid is lost because they only hold the car for one hour after agreed time to pick up the car!! Basically do yourself a favor and never deal with this little hole in the wall company called ADDCAR. It is a pathetic excuse for company that looks to scam customers instead of accommodating them.

I called Dollar and they informed me that they are located outside the airport, which was very surprising for me, and the gentleman on the phone he didn't mentioned that they have a shuttle bus service, either they are closing at 10:30 Pm. Once I arrived there by taxi it was 10:34 PM and they were closed. I called to the customer service which should be in the Netherlands, but I got a gentleman from Car Trawler, he said he feels very sorry for what happened and he will report a complaint with this matter. A proper reply from their end will be within five working days. No One from their end have even called nor replying to emails.

I called them after 14 days, and I spoke to one of their supervisors, this lady was very rude and unprofessional. She was only talking and not even listening to my complaint. I booked a rental car for my 20-day visit to the UK last month. Wish I had read these terrible reviews prior to booking. I paid in full with my credit card online. When I received my authorization I learned that it was booked through CarTrawler a third party broker using Budget. No problem. During the wait period I had to upgrade to a larger vehicle. No problem. Paid an extra $90 for the upgrade. When I printed the voucher I received I noticed it was a co. called Green Motion not Budget. I thought it was probably a spin off from Budget. Once I got to Manchester Airport I called for the shuttle. Again no problem only waited 15 min.

Now the problems begin. Although I had booked unlimited mileage Green Motion explained that the voucher clearly said I was only allowed 95 km. per day. I told them it was a mistake because I would never book without unlimited. In the end we agreed on 6£ per day extra. Then they wanted a 2500£ deposit for any damages. I laughed and explained I had no cards with that much room. In the end Green Motion charged me 100£ deposit and insurance. It came to another 378£. So my car rental went from the $700 I originally paid to another $750. Have contacted CarTrawler for a review. Still waiting.

Booked a car from AirAsia site, in Thailand. Didn't know CarTrawler were the middle agent used with AirAsia. Took a day before I got a reply. Two days later my credit card number had been compromised and USD items began to appear. I hadn't used the card for a while before the booking and didn't use it after. I assumed it was either AirAsia or Avis that had ripped my card off. Only when a customer survey arrived in my inbox from CarTrawler, later on did I realise CarTrawler was used as the agent to find the hire care. I had no idea since when you select a car on AirAsia it goes straight to Avis or some other company I assume. I've booked flights with AirAsia many times and no problem.

After having to cancel my card, sort out with the bank all the USD transactions, order and collect a new card, I used this clean, unused card, to leave the THB 8000 (you can't leave cash!) deposit with Avis when I collected the card (It took more than 2 weeks for that to be refunded - Avis did reply today - over 2 weeks later to say I would get it back), however they didn't seem to be the company to rip off my card. That only leaves CarTrawler. Given the nightmare accounts posted on this site, I think they are the prime suspects.

My advice 1. Don't hire a car through AirAsia, 2) Don't use CarTrawler 3) Try to find a local car hire company who will take a cash deposit. I normally always use local (not the big guys) to rent cars, less hassle, less paperwork and either no deposit or you can get it back quicker. BTW, my system for booking is clean, so I know it is not my computer. This is compromised.

We ended up begging for help - one taxi driver was available but had clocked off and was due home for his family. A lovely lady and her granddaughter who were in his cab felt sorry for us and we went 20k out of our way to drop them first - just to keep ourselves in a taxi. We paid over 200€ to the taxi driver who was an angel on earth and obviously charged us that because we had no choice. He took the Michael and I tipped him because he literally was our only help? The day I went to pick up the car, the agent declined me due to having a visa debit card. I let the agent know that had prepaid the car. They extended the apologies but it was their policy that they could only accept major credit cards.

I left and immediately emailed to CarTrawler and in hopes to get an immediate response I ended up waiting 2 days. They let me know that they would not be refunding me $280 for my rental because I didn't present a valid card for the deposit. In responded to Luke who was in charge of my case that I did in fact have a valid debit card with the deposit needed to cover the rental ($300) for the duration of my rental time. I let him know that what information was given to me in my confirmation email was covered but again according to the agent was incorrect in regards to Thrifty's policies. I got a response immediately letting me know that even with new information that it may not be in my favor of a refund. I would have to wait 5 business days to hear of a new verdict.

I finally got that verdict and it is still no on the refund but now I have to provide a returning flight number which I don't have because I was renting from the city I lived in for a vacation in which I was driving to and would return back to my home city to return the car. So all in all because CarTrawler's policies don't mirror those of the rental companies I am out my prepaid amount of $280! Please don't rent from here! Just go straight to the business itself and avoid any surprises. I finally got a car directly from another car rental place nearby but doesn't help that I was out that money I spent.

I was booking a flight through Webjet and decided to take up the option to book car rental at the same time. A few days later I took my flight and arrived at my destination. Looked through my emails and could not find any car rental agreement. Panicked a bit and then went around all the rental companies in the airport and asked them if I had made a booking with them. I had not. So we had to get driving and so had to rent a car with someone else. Later I saw a credit card debit from online cars. I disputed this with my credit card company. They followed it up and today I got an email from "Car Trawler" about my credit card dispute.

I have written an email to them explaining the lack of a confirmation and information as to who I was renting a car from. After reading your emails I am not confident as to regaining my $196.00. It would be nice as I thought WEBJET would be using a reputable company to be associated with. If I have no joy I will be emailing WEBJET and telling them about my dissatisfaction and disappointment that they are using this company. Let's hope Car Trawler are honest this time.

I prepaid CarTrawler for a one month Europcar Rental in Puerto Vallarta for the guarantee of no surprise extra charges at the pick up desk. Surprise! Europcar says I need letters from my bank and from a Mexican government Agency named CNSF validating my credit card car rental insurance coverage. (It took me 2 weeks to find this CNFS contact info: soporte_ma@cnfs.gob.mx... good luck getting a response.) This appears to be a scam whereby (since these letters are impossible to get in under several weeks if at all) you are now forced to pay the rental agency's exorbitant $20 US/day in spite of the fact that the credit card company you've paid with fully guarantees collision damage loss costs.

Six courteous emails to CarTrawler telling them that they need to update their on-line and contract information and that if they are ethical they will recognize that failure to inform me caused me to reduce my rental period by half, gave me a HORRIBLE start of vacation experience and that a fair settlement at the very least would be a refund of half their rental charge yielded nothing. "Customer Care" people hit stock response buttons that indicated they weren't reading or understanding the situation. All car rental customers in Mexico are now likely to discover the new scammy costly wrinkle too late, at the desk, because unethical brokers like CarTawler are unwilling to inform you ahead of time. Go to the Expedia site and you will find the appropriate warning.

I had asked Cartrawler to work with me on a solution for my one personally horrible experience but for the sake of future customers too. Nada. Do you think your nice-looking CEO and Chief Customer Officer want you to ignore this situation I asked "Sarah" and "Juliet"? Apparently they think their job is to make me go away. If Cartrawler is the kind of business their website claims it is, they will want to fix this problem now instead of taking people's money and leaving them to the horrible experience of being ripped off by not one agency but two.

If one broker and one car agency would emerge and provide car renters with a guaranteed seamless, scam-free, fairly priced service, they could capture the market. CEO Mike McGearty, Chief Customer Officer Brian Ingarfield are you attending to all of your stakeholders' best interests, including yours? Judging by how CarTrawler handled Booking # ** and all subsequent related communications, the answer is no.

I purchased from CarTrawler through Vayama two weeks of car rental with CDW and TW insurance in Israel for $160. The renting company was Enterprise/Eldan.

The CarTrawler contract explicitly stated that any additional insurance proposed would not be required and should be declined and that the company would put a credit card hold of no more than $450 for the Excess Damage.

But when arriving at the airport, the company would not release the car to me till I paid $240 of compulsory Liability Insurance, and it put a hold of $2,500 on my credit card for Excess Damage. I was lucky to have the funds to cover the unexpected Liability insurance expense and a card with that much line of credit. If I had not, I would not have been able to get the car I was counting on when booking with CarTrawler through Vayama. Additionally, the car was full of undocumented scratches - which caused me some concern considering that a hold of $2,500 had been placed on my card. CarTrawler has sent me no request to fill a customer satisfaction survey for this transaction.

My partner and I travelled to Cape Town in July and we rented separate cars for reasons of convenience as we both had different friends and family to visit. Rented through CarTrawler and the car would be picked up at Tempest Car Hire at Cape Town International – this was in July 2016. Upon arrival, I got my car through a company I always use (thank goodness – no hassles) and then found out that there was no car in my partner's name even though she had booked (with additional insurance). After numerous phone calls from Tempest staff and visiting all other car hire companies along the line still no luck. An hour and a half later she gave up and hired a car instead from Woolfords (great help they were!) Upon return to the UK and numerous emails and phone calls (almost 3 and a half months down the line) and chatting and repeating the 'story' to almost all of the ladies in the call centre - no luck!

The amount of times emails were requested and documentation – all sent soon after arriving back in the UK have been resent and resent. We have kept a record of the number of calls, emails to the CarTrawler Support Team (!) and private emails forwarded by staff... we are on the verge of suing for stalling, time-wasting, phone calls, stress... I shall never ever use them and will be writing a far firmer statement to their directors (nameless soles) shortly and to the Ombudsman. Angry? You bet! They (CarTrawler) even had the cheek to say that it was a 'no show' at Tempest. Ha! Arrived at the airport at 1.10pm and proceeded to Tempest at approximately 1.40pm. Car then hired at Woolfords at 3.10pm.

When I arrived in Podgorica, Hertz informed that they don't have a car for me and they didn't accept the agency reservation and sent them cancellation (which I never got). To open a claim on CarTrawler website is almost impossible. You can enter all the data but at the end you don't receive confirmation that it has been submitted. Once I managed to submit the claim, I had to call their customer call center in order to confirm that they have received the claim. This is also not easy. At the moment of writing this the 20 working days it takes CarTrawler to validate and answer a complaint are way due. This concerns a rental that did not happen due to outrageous conditions from Goldcar Athens in mid-June where I was left stranded with my family (incl. 2 y.o. son) at 10pm in a field outside the airport. In particular believe that they need to reimburse the price paid as I haven't benefited from the service in no way. It was the worst ever rental car experience/scam so far with a dubious company.

They advertise a lower than average price but have absurd extra fees and bring you to a field in the middle of nowhere with a "take it or leave it" attitude: you have to purchase a full tank of gas from them at 2EUR+ a litre and they constraint you on purchasing some random "extra insurance" otherwise demanding a deposit (careful. Not a hold on the card... but rather an actual payment which they will return at their convenience) of 1000+ EUR for a car like Fiat Panda, etc. Be careful, avoid if possible and let them go down in peace. This is predatory business at its best which usually does not last long.

In general, my honest opinion is to stay away from such a predatory business which makes a business model out of advertising a low price and then try to scam you with compulsory "extras". Acting in bad faith can only go so far and as it was an impulse buy on the day of the flight (Ryanair) I have some regrets on not researching into it as usual!

We booked from the United Kingdom with Cartrawler a car to be collected in Venice, Italy from Goldcar. The car selected was a Jeep Renegade or similar SUV as stated on the page. I paid in advance the entire hire amount plus a full comprehensive insurance cover simply to protect us from eventuality. On our arrival we were told by Goldcar (Sara) that they never owned a Jeep Renegade and the reservation referred to a group with a Renault Captur which was the only car available at that time anyway... despite asking for a bigger choice I was told it wasn't possible as they had only this car available. I proceeded signing the agreement to notice that I also had to leave a credit card authorization of staggering 1500 Euro despite having a full coverage insurance. Reason being – it was not their insurance therefore they required the deposit. I wasn't happy but at 23.00pm I was left with little options.

As soon we received the car, we immediately noticed a huge damage all along the left site of the car... it was caused by a previous rental and the entire damage was reported but now I was given also a damaged car which wasn't part of my reservation nor the one I wanted. They never told me about the damage, only after signing the agreement. I tried contacting Cartrawler but was then directed to a call centre in China with strong difficulties understanding due to their poor language pronunciation. However the call centre agent was only able to confirm that I could not cancel the order as I signed the terms and conditions which states clearly I could not without being financially penalized... but no one told me the car was damaged? In addition this wasn't the car shown to me in their advertisement.

This car spec was the actual reason I selected, reserved it and paid for it in advance as it had everything I required for my holidays, space, size, speed and presentation... but despite my valuable arguments I was told that there was nothing they could do other than offer me to complain on my return... and this is precisely what I did after the 14 days of driving a slower smaller, less comfortable damaged car. I sent Cartrawler (addressed to Pedro or manager) one email, two-three-four emails without even receiving one single reply. I have also attached the evidence or print out of the reservation and despite having tried everything I am still left wondering what to do as everyone involved seem unwilling to even contact me... only now I discovered this website where it seem that Cartrawler has a number of customers who experienced equal or worst than us.

It is a very depressing situation which makes me even more worried of my credit card status since reading some of the other people payment experience... I am therefore waiting with anticipation for the monthly statement and I hope not to have to report more bad news... but for now I would very much appreciate anyone to give me an idea on how to proceed or to whom to address my complaint or to take legal action. I am not happy with this outcome as the company forced me to hire something I never ordered... In fact my choice was based on their advertisement, period. I would have been happy to be given a similar jeep as stated in the reservation or at least a suitable sized SUV. But instead I get something remotely alike.

Please also remember that Goldcar gave me a confirmation that they never held a Jeep Renegade before or at the time of rental and they are also wondering why Cartrawler would advertise a car they don't have. For this reason Goldcar has also chosen to escalate this matter to their senior management hq. Thank you all in advance for your help and very appreciated advice.

The only number available was the agency "Dollar" rental where the car was reserved. The agent there stated that if I hadn't picked up the car, the rental was automatically cancelled. My credit card, however, already had the charge posted. I have contacted CarTrawler 3 times and got the same canned message every time and the charge has not yet been removed from my credit statement. I can't find a phone contact or another e-mail address to complain. Plan to follow up with my credit card to settle this dispute today.

Thrifty car rental relies on their policy to scheme and scam on customers, rather the rental was completed or not, to ensure funding from each person they get in contact with. As of 2015, a lot of settlements have been made from big companies around the U.S. do what's called a "policy scheme" or general false advertising. (Yes, I know Thrifty isn't that big of a company.)

I rented a car like a week and a half prior to pick up. The tone of the policy indicates that they will work with you and whatever situation you may be in to be sure they have exhausted all the obstacles before officially being unable to rent a car. So I contacted them, and sure enough, they made claims that they are willing to work with my $300.00 credit card limit instead of the required $350.00. They were very vague and unwilling to provide thorough information. They acted as if, everything was good to go. Basically all I needed to do was come with the rest of the funding they have on my booking.

Unfortunately, there was nothing they can do, and that's understandable. What's not understandable, was the fact that they didn't take any type of consideration that they practically proposed a green light for my rental, but NOT WITHIN 48 HOURS, but less than 24 hours, they then informed me that I still need the $350.00. As you can see, my issue wasn't with the requirements. I didn't meet the requirements that I was aware of prior to renting, that's on my behalf, BUT it's company policy to cancel prior to 48 hours. And they are willing to lie and tell anybody anything in order to prevent them from cancelling too early and they won't receive a dime. The first thing I mentioned was the need of cancelling, and there they go... "OH IT'S THIS... BRING A DEBIT CARD"!!! And then when it's time to rent the car it's "oops, we lied, now pay us $55.00 and have a great day!"

Also, they have two separate Terms and Conditions. The one you sign when you pay, and the one on the general site. But that's not really relevant to my case, just thought I'd mention that. So, I contacted the help folks, CarTrawler whoever, and they didn't even bother to read what I wrote. They immediately shot back "you agreed to the terms and conditions" because they are used to that being the hold up, but I kept telling them my issue isn't that I'm in violation of terms and condition, but ON YOUR BEHALF, my 48 hour time period was not met due to being held on promises until like 18-19hours.

I feel that is unfair treatment and I felt scammed. They kept saying "oh well, you agreed to the terms and conditions", I'm like... "I DID, but y'all didn't follow y'alls own terms and condition". If you are holding someone from cancelling, extend their grace period. Don't just tell them something to keep them from cancelling then wait until it's too late to cancel dime-free, and demand money.

Me and my husband used Ryanair car hire service to rent a car in Spain as we booked Ryanair flight. We choose a Budget car as it allowed us to drop the car in a different location and completed the booking paying the whole car rental fee plus insurance fee with a debit card. When we arrived to the airport at 21:00 Budget did not release the car we booked as we had 2 visa debit cards. Instead they required 2 credit cards. We explained that we have sufficient funds in the card to block for deposit which is in fact 10 times more than an ordinary credit card but this was still not accepted. We previously used our debit cards to rent a car with several big companies such as Enterprise, Europcar and Avis in the UK and in Europe and never came across anything similar before.

We asked Budget to change our booking to another car but they declined this request and then we asked for our booking to be cancelled but they said they cannot cancel this as it was booked through a third agent, CarTrawler. Throughout the booking process Ryanair website did not alert us that we are actually booking with a third agent and more importantly it did not alert us that we required 2 credit cards before the booking was complete and the payment was made. In fact I used my usual debit card to make the whole rental car and insurance fee payment and there was no mention of a credit card requirement. We needed to rent a car from the same airport as all our holiday plans were dependent on this and we rented a car using the same debit card with another big company, Europcar, without any issues.

This shows the lack of transparency in services Ryanair provides that results losing money or suffering avoidable aggravation, distress and/or inconvenience, the lack of transparency regarding services provided, giving wrong/misleading information and/or deliberately withholding important information from customers that could avoid problems and it shows the lack of professionalism and respect towards customers.

This type of vital information should be given before the booking process is complete and the payment is taken. We thought booking a car with Ryanair would be easy and convenient as we are travelling with Ryanair but overall it caused so many issues in a country which we don't reside in and don't even use their language. This was no minor inconvenience. Its not fair to start your holiday with such an experience. Don't rent a car with Ryanair. They are working with this scam CarTrawler.

Comments: I reserved, via Holiday Autos, a Goldcar rental at Lanzarote Arricefe Airport for 14th April. When collecting the car I was told that I must pay a refundable deposit secured against my credit card of 2,500.00 Euros in place of any extra insurance and for any potential damage or claims, to which I agreed and gave my credit card to your agent. As the extra amounts listed on the contract are under 'Full Fuel' (in English!) they 'appear' to be related to fuel charges/ deposit (to a non-Spanish speaker); I am aware that Rental Companies often charge for a full tank of fuel PLUS a refill upon return, refunding the amount when the car is returned full, as I did in this case.

I WAS NOT told of, nor did I agree to any extra insurance. Why would I agree to this when I was offered the facility at the time of booking for a significantly lower price? Further, why would I pay insurance at three times the cost of the rental? I am extremely dissatisfied at these extra charges as I specifically said that I wanted a 'full to full' fuel policy, and no extra insurances. I am aware that I have signed your contract and understand the impactions of this. However, I believe that my signature was obtained under false pretences.

Made a rental reservation with Dollar Rent a Car. Unknown to me, if you select the pay in advance option to get a better price, you are no longer making a reservation with Dollar Rent a Car. You are making a reservation with CarTrawler on Dollars website. I made the reservation for my son who was flying home. He used a different credit card onsite for the rental which invalidated the reservation. I was told that I could just contact their web contractor for the refund as a totally new reservation needed to be made for the Dollar rental. Not quite that simple. CarTrawler was adamant about not issuing a refund since I did not use the reservation.

NEVER USE THE PAY IN ADVANCE OPTION when making a rental if you don't want to put your entire reservation/deposit at risk. It is not worth the risk. As others have stated on this website, CarTrawler is an unscrupulous business. I cannot believe that Dollar Rent a Car is any better if they continue to utilize them as a business partner in their online rental business.

I have made a booking through KLM website as that was where my husband and I had made our flight booking. We opted for an auto transmission Volkswagen Golf and next to "Volkswagen Golf" were microscopic letters that says 'or similar'. Naturally I missed it. But that's alright. As long as it was auto transmission. I love driving a stick as much as the next person but when you're used to being a right-handed driver on a left lane, driving on the opposite could be quite challenging. Also, we wouldn't want any damages on our credit card.

We made the booking 1 month in advance. A few days before our flight, I checked our booking again and this time, I've read all the terrible experiences people had with CarTrawler. So, I took a screenshot of my booking where it obviously shows Auto Transmission. I emailed the company just to be sure. My worst nightmares came true and they had changed it to Manual. I called them countless times on the day of my departure and either CarTrawler had no money to hire real people or they just don't care if the customer service agents could even communicate properly. Not only was the woman's response stupid, it was annoying how she insisted that I made a mistake. I finally insisted on a manager.

The manager took more than an hour to call and that was only after I had called in again. A manager took my call and his name was Warren. I had to send and resend an email of the screenshot from my phone. He understood my complaint at the very least, but could do nothing more than transfer it to another person all the way in Dublin to call me back.

Lina from Dublin called. She said she doesn't have the screenshot and she her email was down or something like that. By now I was already driving to the airport. I told her that I need this resolved urgently. She never called me back. I called in again, explained the entire story all over again and Sheila (the lady who took my call) said she needed to check on something and said that she would call me back. By now I was already at the airport. She never called back. A foreign number did try calling but hung up as soon as I answered. I called again and explained my story all over again and this time, an Amara answered my call, same story and unfortunately neither of these people truly understood the urgency of the situation.

We were boarding a plane to a country that we had never been before and waiting there was not the car we ordered. Despite the proof that I have given CarTrawler multiple times and the cost of the countless long distance calls, I can clearly say this: I was just married and we were headed to our honeymoon. CarTrawler ruined it all and didn't even have the courtesy to fix anything. Worst car service ever. Cheats and thieves, that's what they are.

Our car was nowhere to be seen. Repeated telephone calls were not answered. We were able, just before midnight when the major hirers were closing, to hire another car. We arrived at our destination at 3am in dangerous winter conditions. We had to pay 66 pounds more than CarTrawler's offer of 100 pounds. CarTrawler did reimburse this amount. Under Irish law, the 66 pounds are damages due for CarTrawler's breach of contract, but my emails have never even been answered. Do not be tempted by CarTrawler's offer. On the 7th March I hired a car at Dublin airport, which I booked online via the Ryanair website. Due to the nature of the website, I erroneously booked 2 cars for the same period instead of one. An easy mistake to make when you are the export man and often in a hurry to make deadlines. On seeing the mistake not long afterwards (obviously I cannot drive 2 cards at the same time, so any intelligent human being peering over a computer would see that there has been a mistake), I contacted the help desk before the contract had started and the helpful lady I spoke to identified the error and cancelled the second vehicle. Now you would expect the matter to end there. It didn't.

A week later I found out that I had been double charged. The contract rate had been debited twice from my bank account. I took a copy of my bank statement to the Hertz desk who subcontract through Thrifty, and showed this to the woman at the desk who said that I would have to contact Car Trawler directly about this which I did by phone. The young girl said that it would be dealt with and saw no reason why I should not be entitled to a refund. I sent at least two emails, the last one in a threatening manner as I have been told that Thrifty are treating this as a 'no show' and they will not be refunding my 46.61 for the second vehicle!

I am absolutely furious about this, more out of principal than anything else. This behavior is typical of corporate giants who like to use the internet to sell their services. This enables them to trip people up and then, when things go wrong, deal with the matter behind a desk, along way away where no one can actually get to them and argue with them. Less than 24 hours to writing this review, I booked a rental car. Today, I found out my plans have changed. I went online to cancel but you cannot cancel by internet, only on phone. It says toll-free, I called and it is a long distance call, so I hung up. Can someone tell me, or someone from the company, how I can cancel my reservation without paying a fee since I have tried to cancel online, but cannot. Thank you.

CarTrawler need to be more clear on their policies. Particularly the part of not being willing to have the credit card holder and the main driver being different people. I don't have and don't want a credit card. I have a driving licence though my girlfriend has credit card and no driving licence. My problem is that it was not a problem for CarTrawler to take the payment of my girlfriend's credit card while knowing that she was not named as a driver. Hence costing us a fortune on buses and taxi's for the duration of our holiday which ruined it from the start. I believe that such actions are deceitful and tantamount to theft as to knowingly take money for a service that there is no intention of providing is morally corrupted. I will not ever use CarTrawler in the future.

I hired a car for several days in South Africa. I had no problems with the car hire but the deposit I paid for the car hire wasn't on my final invoice. So I raised the issue with CarTrawler with several pieces of documentation attached. They took several weeks to respond and said I was correctly billed. No I wasn't. They had miscalculated my bill (basic arithmetic!). So I called them and resubmitted an email and my final invoice. Still haven't heard. Not exactly a great service. Avoid them!

Wasted my time, funds paid for taxis and then was unable to acquire services from another car hire firm because Cartrawler/Rental Car.Com (Trash Rip Off Merchants) do not return customers' funds in the manner and speed in which it was received. I was required to actually send repeated e-mails and make numerous telephone calls to prompt the release of the funds which I sent to them for which no service was rendered. In total I waited 5 weeks before my funds was returned to my bank account.

Presumably, my funds and those of other disgruntled customers was placed in an extremely high interest yielding corporate account. I am disabled and was disgusted with how I was treated. 20 is what they offered me for compensation. So I will be pursuing legal redress in the small claims court and arousing as much bad publicity against this awful corporate exploiter of the voiceless and powerless. Rented a car for 15 days in Thailand through Hotels.com / CarTrawler. We got a decent price and I was happy to be spared the hassle of booking a car in Thailand directly through the car rental companies. I have done this directly several times in Thailand and it is a nightmare. When we arrived at the rental counter in Bangkok (Thai Rent a Car), there was no one there. After waiting for 10 minutes, one employee finally showed up and started on the paperwork, which took 5 minutes. We were asked to take a seat while they retrieved the car. We waited for over an hour and every time we asked the answer was "It will be here in 5 minutes."

The car we received was in crappy condition. Cigarette burn marks on the seats and the car itself reeked of smoke. Whenever we accelerated or hit a bump, part of the interior fell down in the passenger seat area. The car was dented and scratched all over and honestly felt like it hadn't been serviced since it left the factory conveyor belt.

Upon returning home I filed a ticket with Cartrawler.com and got the following reply: "Michael, we do treat this kind of feedback very seriously, as we expect all our Car Rental Partners to offer vehicles in good condition. At the same time, CarTrawler is unable to investigate condition of the vehicle's claims with our Car Rental Partners directly. As such, I have forwarded all the details of your query to our colleagues at Thai Rent A Car - Thailand and have requested that they contact you directly to resolve this matter. I would recommend that you also make contact with them to check the progress of your case." So... No help at all. They even sent the reply from a no-reply email address so I have to open a new ticket just to respond to them.

Naturally nothing good will ever come out of complaining to Thai Rent a Car directly. They don't give a damn about customers so the only way of actually getting through them is if a partner like CarTrawler handles the case. However, that is apparently not going to happen. Since Cartrawler.com offers no help at all, I fail to see the point in using them for renting cars. The slogan "CarTrawler - with you all the way" seems a bit hollow now. Maybe it should be "CarTrawler - with you all the way (until payment)".

CarTrawler is the worst company you can possibly choose to rent a car. I rented a car in February 2016 and gave them all the information they asked me. They had the schedule of my flight, which arrived in Barcelona at 11 pm. I booked the car rental at that same hour, however I was given the option of booking it at 11:30 pm when the car rental company closes at 11 pm. I had to rent another car and drove to my city (Lerida) and the next day had to come to Barcelona to found that the car has been cancelled by this terrible company.

At first, I thought it was a problem of the car rental company, but then I realized that it wasn't the first time that happened. They had a bunch of complaints all because CarTrawler. I had no car and no money. When I called them they said that there was nothing they could do, only send me some papers of complaints to my e-mail. Fortunately, I could rent the car directly at the car rental, but now I have to go through and non ending process to get my money back. Do not trust them, it is by far the WORST COMPANY I'VE EVER CONTACTED WITH.

Awful experience!! Don't use their services! Their website explicitly says the cars have unlimited miles. I booked the car, gave my credit card information and when I get to the airport the clerk tells me that the car has limited miles after all. We tried to contact them over the phone, but all the numbers I could find online were disconnected. Since we were going to travel between Lisbon and Paris, 60 km/day was a little absurd. The clerk suggested we didn't get the car. So we never even got the car. But they did charged us! The only way to reach them is through their website. They took a long time to reply and when they did they were arrogant and inflexible.

Thank god for American banks! I filed a dispute and the bank solved the issue for me. Their answer was that because I never got the car I had to pay a $50 fee. I think they never even acknowledged that my outrage was because this a case of pure fraud when you advertise one thing and offer another and give you no options to get out because they already have your credit card info. Very, very outraged and want to let everyone know about them. Be careful!

For the first time I used CarTrawler to book a Ford Fiesta or similar vehicle for a week with pickup at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. The price was good and the company took £28 deposit on my VISA card without any issue. I received my car voucher confirmation and it all looked OK. If only I had taken the trouble to read all these reviews first!

We arrived at Istanbul. The meet and greet did not take place. We had to phone the Turkish Rental Company Essence who then 15 minutes later turned up with the vehicle. Not a Ford Fiesta but a Fiat Punto with a cracked windscreen. The agent then informed us that he could not process our credit card. I have no idea why this was but he could not process it. Our bank have confirmed that no attempt was even made to charge the car rental. Suffice to say the agent, despite being offered cash as an alternative was unable to complete the transaction and told us he could not rent the car out to us.

I found my way back into the main arrivals terminal and approached a company called RentGo. Using the same card I was able to pay my deposit, the car rental and the extra insurance with no trouble at all. They were also professional, organised and able to offer a Ford Fiesta car that was pretty much brand new and for the same price as CarTrawler's offer through Essence.

Seriously, it is not worth using an online booking agent like CarTrawler. They are not who you end up renting your car with and any attempt by you to recover your deposit will result in failure. They are not interested. Their support system will close your ticket and say the case is solved when it is not and they will take any form of excuse they can get from their rental source to NOT pay you your deposit back. I am left wondering if this is actually a genuine bona fide rental company.

Do yourselves a huge favour and avoid CarTrawler (and Essence Car Rental) of Istanbul. They are not worth the hassle. Rent from a professional organisation that you can trust. If you rented from the UK you could try the following: Complaints Department, Car Trawler, Classon House, Dundrum Business Park, Dundrum, Dublin 14, Ireland. Good Luck. I doubt you will get your money back but it has to be worth a try.

I thoroughly recommend that anyone using the CarTrawler car rental broker service cancel their transaction immediately and book directly with a car rental company instead. I booked my flight from Auckland to London with Emirates Airlines. Their website has a link to a car rental service. As a quality airline, I had no misgivings about using this service thinking that I was somehow making my car rental booking through Emirates as well. The rental rates were attractive and initial booking confirmations appeared to also come from the Emirates team.

Of course, the car rental company - in this case Budget - is a 3rd party service provider. And the intermediate company - CarTrawler - is a business to business service provider. In other words, CarTrawler's "customer" is actually the rental car companies, not the individual who wants to rent a car. This might explain the incredible lack of customer service that CarTrawler displays towards individuals.

When making my booking and payment online, I opted for an additional insurance called Damage Refund Excess Cover. This is the kind of add-on that car rental companies always try to sell you with warnings about the excess that you would otherwise have to pay in the event of some accidental damage to the rental car. My advice is to first check what cover you might have under your general travel insurance policy (if you have one) before paying again for something that you may not need. As always, the principle is caveat emptor - buyer beware. Read the small print and find out what's covered and what's not. The problem is that when making a transaction online, the small print is often contained in pages that are not accessible at the time of booking.

I made a small amendment to my booking - changing my car pick up time by couple of hours. By the way, amendments are described as "free" on the CarTrawler home page. I received a confusing flurry of emails from the Insurance Company - AXA , from CarTrawler - with the sender named as Emirates - and from Cartrawler itself first confirming my Damage Insurance - twice - and then informing me that it had been cancelled and my premium paid refunded. What the hell?

I checked my bank statement and the original payment was still "On Hold" with no refund. I emailed CarTrawler to request an explanation, but their generic response from their "Customer Care" team was initially "Please note it can take up to 20 days to resolve a complaint as we liaise directly with your rental provider to investigate on your behalf." Concerned that I had inadvertently made a double booking online regarding the Damage Insurance, I again emailed CarTrawler to enquire and cancel the Damage Insurance.

24 hours later - after cancelling the entire booking with CarTrawler due to their continued ineptitude - their small print page explained how this Damage Insurance is cancelled and then re-applied in the event of any amendment to the original booking. Why the CarTrawler representative could not explain this at the time remains a mystery.

Back to a day earlier, CarTrawler's Reservations Team asked me to call my bank to check that I had been overcharged and, if so, send them the bank statement and confirm that I wished to cancel the Damage Insurance. The footnote to their email stated "Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us". I duly sent them both the bank statement and my confirmation cancelling the Damage Insurance. I started to get really worried about CarTrawler, particularly because I do not have a credit card and wanted to pick up the rental car using my Visa Debit card - as I have done numerous times with other car rental companies such as SIXT.

Fast forward 24 hours again and, after cancelling the booking with CarTrawler, I can see that their small print states that, not only if you don't have a credit card with sufficient funds available you will not be allowed to pick up your booked vehicle, if you do not cancel your booking more than 24 hours before pick up CarTrawler will not refund your payment.

Having now read similar horror stories from other customers on your website, I can only conclude that CarTrawler has some kind of vested interest in giving their "customers" (i.e. the individuals making the car rental booking) insufficient information around the time of the booking that allows them to subsequently keep payments that they should not, in fairness, be entitled to. At the same time, the customer has no recourse with the car rental company. At best this is confusing and distressing for the individuals concerned. At worst, this could be construed as some kind of wilful fraud on the part of CarTrawler.

Back to a day earlier, I tried everything possible to get confirmation from CarTrawler indirectly and Budget directly that I could pick up the car with a Visa Debit card. Emails to Budget from CarTrawler and myself went apparently unanswered. CarTrawler provided me with the phone number for Budget in the UK. I called them from NZ and spent 20 minutes in a queue being continually told "Your call is next in the queue to be answered". In the end, I had to give up with no answer.

The CarTrawler Reservations Team emailed me to say that they had "escalated" my query to a manager who would get back to me. Some time later - apparently due to time differences between NZ and CarTrawler's head office in Dublin - I received an email from a CarTrawler "Customer Service Representative" to say that CarTrawler had "solved the problem" and credited the Damage Insurance premium on my Visa Debit card and "You will be able to see the balance in 5/10 working days. I hope this is of some assistance to you."

No mention was made of my query about using a debit card for pick up, despite repeated emails specifically requesting this. I had now wasted at least 12 hours trying to resolve this. 12 hours later, with still no further response to my query, I cancelled the booking online. ONLY THEN, once I had cancelled the booking, did I get to view a page which stated not only did I need to supply a credit card with sufficient funds in the driver's name on pick up, but also that if I did not cancel the booking more than 24 hours before the stated pick up time that I would not be entitled to a refund of the payment made.

I consider this to be constructive fraud. At any stage during the previous 24 hours of emails back and forth, CarTrawler could have pointed out that, should Budget not accept my Visa Debit card on pick up, I would be liable for the entire hire fee - US$400 - without any refund. CarTrawler's silence on the matter, notwithstanding having received some 20 emails variously addressed from CarTrawler Reservations/ CarTrawler Support or the Damage Insurance Company - intriguingly entitled "fulfilment" - until actual cancellation of the booking is highly deceptive behaviour and should be investigated by the authorities.

One of CarTrawler's emails was a customer service "10 second" feedback survey allowing a rating of 1 to 10 for various components. If I could have given them less than zero I would have done so for my wasted time. I now have to contact my bank to dispute the payment that I made online as I have no trust whatsoever that CarTrawler will refund my payment in a timely manner and I now have to make alternative car rental arrangements. I am just thankful to have discovered your consumer affairs reviews online, which has helped me to avoid the costly mistake which continuing to deal with CarTrawler would no doubt prove to be.

When I arrived at the rental desk they did not give us the car and we nearly ended up with our two small children late in the evening without transportation. We went to the next company (Europcar) which rented us a car with me paying it with my credit card and with my wife driving it. No problem.

In their Terms and Conditions, (over 20 pages long) they wrote that the credit card owner and driver's license holder need to be the same but I only read that once we did not get the car. This is very unusual as I always rent cars where I pay for it and someone else drives. The registration process is confusing on the site. They accept the credit card holder to be different from the driver licensing holder name and the reservation and payment go thru. If the conditions say that this is not possible, the form on the website should give an error message but it didn't. The car reservation process is not providing customer protection and I feel that I actually have been ripped off. When asked for a refund they told us that the refund would be only partial. But it was all paid by my debit card. They refused to give me the car. Very disappointed. They are looking at the case and told me they'll reply to me. Over a year now and the case is still going. I booked a car at Price and immediately discovered there was yet another fee due at check that I didn't think was properly disclosed. They made their price seem like a discount off of it. The website had the skin of Budget Rental and initially I believed I was booking directly with Budget. Both the way the pricing was disclosed and the faux Budget appearance, I think were extremely deceiving.

In less than five minutes after booking online, I called the company and spoke with an agent. They would not cancel my reservation despite my explaining my discovery without having to pay a $55 penalty. Not only were they not understanding, they were rather rude and dismissive about it. I would beware about ever doing business with this rather shady organization.

Never experienced such a friendly and correct car rental ever! Booked 10-11-2015 a car with Thrifty Faro and the lady with a smile, named Garcea (sorry if I spelled her name incorrect), gave us an unforgettable service. Because our booked car wasn't available, we got a very exclusive car for a little additional charge. By returning the car we immediately got the bill. Everything correct and no surprises at all. Impeccable service with a smile! We were very happy to experience that this kind of service still exists in the car rental world. Thank you Thrifty Faro Portugal and thank you especially Garcea!

Unfortunately they didn't, they took both! Then they said it would take 20 business days (1 month) to get refunded, then via email they were reluctant to take responsibility. Instead tried to hide behind their multi company business ventures... but the bank statement clearly had their name on the withdrawal! They actually are operating thinking that people will forget?! Eventually I will get the money back, but be aware it's a shabby shady company, stay away!

When I tried to secure my rental car I was denied the rental. They claimed that my debit card was not accepted. I explained that my debit card was accepted for the $90.00 deposit - two weeks in advance - and that on the Dollar Car Rental Agreement site it reads that a debit card is accepted if accompanied by a card from Costco Wholesale - I am a Gold Star member. The supervisor, a woman named **, was exceeding rude when she adamantly denied my booking, refused to even look at my Costco card, and told me and my son to "Get out of her building". I retorted that the building was not hers, it belongs to Dollar Car Rental and that is only because they have customers - of which I would never be again.

My son proceeded to take photos with his iPhone. We have photos. I emailed **, of CarTrawler - I had to surreptitiously contact her through their "New Reservations" link - and she responded emailing that I could only receive a $25.00 refund. I received a $25.00 refund to my debit account. Then I received another email from ** reading that after re-considering, CarTrawler will refund me $65.00 - which I haven't received. My email is now inundated with solicitations from lawyers handling Breach of Contract cases. I have photos of the supervisor ** hiding her face while my son snapped the photos of her speaking rudely to me - a disabled elder. I will submit them after I have received a response.

I had the worst customer service experience ever from this company. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. If I could rate them less than a one star I would! I wish I had checked this site first before I booked, to see all of the negative reviews. I attempted to rent a car through this company. Only to realize that the price that was advertised would not be the final price. Upon check out I realized that there would be an additional payment due upon pick up of our rental car. The final price would end up being much more expensive than going through another rental company. I immediately tried to cancel the reservation online, however I due to my computer settings I was unable to cancel the reservation online.

To find CarTrawler's contact phone number on the their website is almost impossible. I finally became so frustrated that I could not cancel the reservation, I contacted Dollar Rental company, the car rental company that was renting me the car, to cancel the reservation. I was told by the first two operators that I had to cancel the reservation online, which I explained to them I was trying to do, unsuccessfully. They put me on hold and I was hung up on. I called them back a third time, explained the problem and was told that they would cancel the reservation on my behalf. Well, that didn't happen, upon return from our vacation I was slapped with $149US charge on my credit card, for a rental I never picked up.

I immediately contacted Dollar Rental Car, they directed me to CarTrawler, then the month long emails back and forth began. From the time I first contacted CarTrawler I was given the runaround. I emailed them everything they required, only to hear back in the end that they would only partially refund me my money. $65US to be exact, which is almost $100 Canadian. They had in fact received the cancellation message from Dollar Rental Car that same day I had made the reservation, however they sent me the small print in their email stating I was required to cancel my reservation online with their company directly. I would have if my computer would have allowed me to. It would have been helpful if Dollar Rental car company had provided me with CarTrawler's phone number so I could have contacted them directly.

In my attempts to get a refund, I had to contact CarTrawler numerous times by phone (once I finally found their phone number) and each time I spoke to someone new, they told me that the previous person I spoke to had not entered the information I had provided the last time. I cannot stress this enough. Do NOT use this company. It's not worth the hassle and headache, even if you think you're saving a few bucks!

Absolutely never ever use CarTrawler or a company associated with CarTrawler such as Holiday Autos, Thrifty or Argus Car Hire. I had a car hire booking made on the 25th April 2014 for £272.42. On the 27th December, the day before I was due to collect the car in France, I received their standard car hire reminder, but on it it stated that I had booked to collect my car in a place called St. Louis when I had booked Basel - Mulhouse Bale. I knew there were a few exits at Basel for different countries but I had ensured I had booked the correct one (French exit rather than Germany etc).

I called their customer services personnel who told me that St Louis was not the correct location, it was not Basel, that I must have made a mistake and that my only option was to cancel and rebook Basel for the new price of £578.23. I asked her repeatedly if she was sure and she was adamant that she was right and I had made a mistake. When I reluctantly did cancel and rebook, I discovered to my horror that St Louis was exactly the same place! I was right all along. The end result is that I had very costly advice from a CarTrawler member of staff who clearly does not know her car hire locations. I immediately called a manager who insisted he could not reverse it, that all I could do is appeal when I got back. When I enquired twice previously I was told I would be unlikely to receive a refund. Eventually a customer care staff member did escalate my case.

However since this case was escalated I have faced brick walls consistently. I have been unable to ascertain if they have even received the supporting documentation such as credit card statements and cover letters explaining events which led to my cancelling and rebooking. No-one will tell me anything and I have not been permitted to speak with the person dealing with my case to ensure they have all my supporting evidence. It has been a complete nightmare from start to finish. This whole episode has been very stressful for me. I do not have money to throw away on the poor advice from a company, especially a couple of days after Christmas. It completely ruined my holiday as I was too worried to share the burden with my family at the time of year, and spoil their hard earned holiday too.

This is a mess and none of it my own fault. I urged CarTrawler to listen to the recordings from the the 27th December so they can hear the incorrect advice for themselves, as they say they do for cases such as these I assume. I want my money back. If you want hassle and stress-free car hire for your business or pleasure trips, stay well clear from anyone associated with CarTrawler. All of the aforementioned company names are implicated in this single case.

I booked a car rental through a CarTrawler affiliated website (holidayautos.co.uk). It was marginally cheaper than a car made available through rentalcars.com, where I normally book my rental cars. When I arrived at the airport to pick up the car, I was told I could not have it, because my booking included no insurance at all (i.e. not it did not include fully comprehensive insurance, it did not include even the minimum insurance legally required to put the car on the road). I can't see how this is any different from them telling me my booking included the car, but not a steering wheel or the wheels or the gas pedal or the brakes, for which I would have to pay extra.

I was quoted a basic third party insurance fee which was twice as much as I had already paid to rent the car. In other words, the final price was going to be three times as much as the car I would have got through rentalcars.com (insurance included). I said in that case I wanted to cancel the booking, which the rental company was fine with, but they said they could not give me a refund, as they had not charged anything, and would not be charging anything, and told me to contact CarTrawler. Which I did. CarTrawler claimed that I failed to honor my contract, and would not give me a refund (and would keep the money) - because the rental company supposedly were charging them. In my opinion, this establishment is clearly disreputable and may be engaging in the criminal offences of fraudulent misrepresentation and obtaining money by deception.

DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR!!! The worst company I have ever had to deal with. We booked a car online with Argus for pick up at London Airport 8 months in advance of our trip to get a good price. The booking was confirmed. We paid the deposit by credit card and the car was to be picked up from Budget/Avis at London Airport. Luckily, at this time, I sent Budget/ Avis a confirmation. Full payment would be required by Argus 6 days before picking up the car. When we arrived in UK we planned to spend 5 days in London and 5 days in Paris and then go to London Airport to pick up our car to continue our trip for 20 days around the UK. We put 20 pounds on prepaid telephone in London.

The night before we were due to go to Paris we had an email from Argus (luckily my wife had an Ipad). It said there was a problem with payment of the full amount. I telephoned Argus and had to wait 15 minutes for someone in a foreign country far away to answer. The man was helpful and we explained that the expiry date on the original credit card had expired and that the same card had been extended by 3 years. He walked us through how to change our details and confirmed that payment had gone through. The night before we were due to pick up the car (we were still in Paris) we had an Email from Argus stating that our booking had been cancelled. It was 10:30 pm in Paris. I telephoned Argus - waited 15 minutes to get a reply from a lady I could not understand.

She had no clue what I was talking about as my booking had been cancelled and there were no details of why and how. I asked what I should do and she replied that I must make a new booking. We went through all the booking requirements and she quoted me a price almost twice the original price for the same car!! I declined her offer and asked to speak to a supervisor - I WAS IMMEDIATELY CUT OFF. Getting worried about my phone credit, I phoned Argus again, waited the 15 minutes to get connected and asked to speak with a supervisor - I was immediately cut off.

The next day we went to London Airport to see if we could hire a car 'off the rack'' and expecting to pay double or treble the original amount with Argus (an extra $1000). We went to Budget/Avis and they could not have been more helpful. They honoured the original confirmation that I sent them and we both agreed to ignore Argus. My advice is that if you want to risk a heart attack book with Argus.

Here's my story - I made an online reservation to rent a car in Barcelona Airport Terminal 1, as we are a family of 4 persons I made my reservation for a Volkswagen Passat as we have many luggages pieces, at least 4 to 5 pieces. Anyway I made my reservation online, paid whole amount by credit card, but surprisingly when I arrived to Barcelona to pick up my car I found them changing the one I rented, replacing it with one that takes 2 luggages maximum according to the employee of the AVIS COMPANY which I think is the representative front office for CARTRAWLER COMPANY.

The worst part was when I offered to pay more money to rent a van car the employee answered arrogantly, "We have no more cars to offer you." I asked her to cancel my reservation and to give me back my money, she said I should do it online. When I texted the company 4 to 5 emails I had reluctant answers like we'll see we can do, we'll be back to you, I need a few days... NOTHING happened since 17 days now, I lost 3 hours stucked in the airport with my family looking to rent another car from another respectable company EUROPCAR but eventually I had to rent another car in Barcelona for my trip. I paid 40% higher prices cause it was last minute reservation. Please all take care and never get involved in a car rental from CarTrawler company.

I contacted the so-called Australian number... but landed up in Dublin! I was shocked and dismayed by the arrogant and bad mannered Fabian, the male customer services staff member who cancelled my booking. I was enquiring about the funds that I had paid that did not correspond with the voucher, as well as the time it took for the additional $700 that would be kept as a deposit until the car was returned. As I have rented many cars in my life, I wanted to make sure that it would not drag on and on and be out of pocket. He abruptly decided that he was taking the call to cancel my booking, spoke over me and did not care about a customer's needs. This company was recommended, but wow, what a terrible experience. No one has come back to me after I was promised that someone would. Just shows. I wonder how many other customers have had the same treatment by Fabian.

I booked a family-size car from CarTrawler which used a local rental company (Dirent) in Athens (Greece). When I arrived to the pick-up point, I was offered an old Scudo car - not anything like what I requested. When I refused it, the guy said "It's similar to the car you requested...and anyway you don't have much choice today!" The mileage of the car (187 000 km), its inside look didn't look like the one we were expecting. We had little choice (we were 7 persons!) because the alternative was no car at all.

We asked for another car but were informed than no other car was free. I asked for a discount which they put at 150 euros (2650 instead of 2800 euros!) and had to sign a paper which indicated that I accepted to rent this car instead of a jumpy car (Citroen) for this 150€ discount. The car was 7 years old, had not much power. I am very angry with this. I will NEVER NEVER NEVER CarTrawler or Dirent car. I advise you to pay attention and keep away from these rental companies.

Booked a car with Dollar through CarTrawler and when I arrived at the airport the agent at the desk said the booking was incorrect and she would take care of the problem and book me another car -- she stated she canceled the original booking and created another booking -- I had to pay for the new booking at the desk and she said the original purchase would be a credit -- well it's been 3 months now and I have called everyone from Dollar rental to CarTrawler and all I get is the run around to different people on the phone. I guess the $150 dollars will never be refunded, so beware and stay away from 3rd party companies like this... I will never use this company or Dollar again.

I could get very detailed about the misinformation regarding it saying "no cancellation fee" on the Thrifty website, and then AFTER you pay, you get an email with a small print, last page clause stating 48-hr cancellation fee. But the MAIN COMPLAINT here is that I never would have gone to a website called "Cartrawler.com" to rent a car. But in actuality, THAT is who you are renting from when you go to "Thrifty Car Rental". To add frustration, most of the customer support is overseas and the fact that they just argue over and over with you and don't listen only inflames the dispute.

I called my credit card company and filed a dispute. They said Thrifty had MANY disputes. It is a misleading and fraudulent website and needs to be changed or taken down. I have NEVER been treated like such garbage over $55.00 which was beside the point of the principle and the two hours they wasted of MINE. I am also going to WASTE more time filing complaint on internet fraud - .gov website, BBB, and all other complaint filing websites to WARN others.

11 July at 2:30 am I booked a car for the same day (I think around 7 am) through the Argus Car Hire website (which is also Cartrawler). Then I read that the car company was green motion and already aware that was really bad I decided to cancel my reservation. 11 July at 02:51 am I canceled my booking. The website states "Free cancellation" in the front page! Terms and condition says: full refund if the cancellation is made 24 hours before the pick up time.

Me and my friend called three time the customer care and they said that term and condition IMPLIES that if you book the car and cancel the same day a fee of £35. No one from customer care can provide a satisfying answer. They just repeat "This is the policy". I am still waiting for my refund of £36 (YES £1 MORE). In the meanwhile I wrote two emails: no answer. I also wrote to Mike McGearty the CEO of this company. (Go to linkedIn and search the name). Just to be clear: A POLICY CANNOT IMPLIES! IT MUST BE WRITTEN!

I reserved a car online via the company CarTrawler. Paid with my Barclay card and got a confirmation to pick up the car at Easirent inside Sheraton Hotel Heathrow at the specified time of 11 am. Upon getting the confirmation and reading that if I do not pick up car by the stated time, I will lose my money, I immediately called to inform them that I can not get there for 11 am but will be there by 2 pm, and the representative I spoke to said it was fine.

Reading though the confirmation that was sent to me, I saw that I will be required to pay a deposit of £1250 for a car am hiring for less than a £100. I called to discuss as I have never had to part with such a big deposit for a car rental. The representative made me realise that without paying the deposit I will not be allowed to take the car. He offered me £500 deposit which I rejected as well.

I asked him to cancel my booking and refund my money but was told I will not be able to get my money back. I got an email from them yesterday confirming I will get a refund of 40% from the amount I paid. This is so unfair and a total rip-off. Customer service was very poor, the representative was very rude, and their policy stinks. This is definitely a SCAM. EVERYONE SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS COMPANY AND AVOID THEM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

I made a Reservation through "CarTrawler" – another name of this company is “Carhire” - on April 4. Pick-up date was on April 5 Sunday (Car rental provider works from 10 am till 1 pm). I called representative on April 4 who told me that I will be able to pick up car during the working hours until 1 pm - no other restrictions were mentioned. I was billed for the reservation. After talk with the representative specifically about Automatic transmission option I was assured that on Sunday there will be no problems. I arrived to the Sixt company office car rental provider at 12 pm and was told that there was time interval of one hour and they do not have my car (Reservation receipt is attached.).

No documents from the company that car was given in this Office to the other person! They did not provide documents. I said that I agree to pick up another car with automatic transmission, even if the cost will be less. I was told that I need to pay for the second time, because Sixt did not get money from the CarTrawler and when and if they will get money I will be able to ask for return. I paid additional $138.94 and never was able to get return from the CarTrawler (email exchange lasted for 3 months).

Went to make a reservation on thrifty.com. We have rented with them numerous times and have never had an issue. Went to prepay this time, as it was at a cheaper price. The website was redirected apparently after information was put into a website called CarTrawler.com based out of Dublin, Ireland. This I found out when I received not a confirmation but a rental "voucher" from said company. I went to the thrifty.com website to add to the reservation and it said the confirmation # and last name did not match up. I then called thrifty who gave me a number for that company's website to call Mon-Fri 8-5 central if there were any discrepancies with the billing. I finally went back to the voucher I received and clicked the hyperlink provided within the voucher which redirected me to thrifty.com.uk. I then was able to access the reserve and cancel it.

I immediately contacted my bank and they said we should have no problems reversing the charges after it leaves the "pending" mode if they do not automatically do so. I believe that the thrifty.com has some kind of issue with a back door where they are able to redirect reservations to this other company. I am not certain but I believe this is fraud. I then notified thrifty through a customer email off their website of what had happened. I will make sure cc company reverses charges, however it made me very angry that I will have to do this while just trying to make a reservation from here in the US to another US destination. I am also now dubious about renting from thrifty, although to be fair they may or may not be aware of this page redirect complication.

I prepaid for a rental car for Dollar Rent a Car. When my husband went to rent the car, Dollar wanted to hold $350.00. There wasn't that much credit on the card, so they declined the rental. I immediately applied for and was granted a $500.00 increase in credit. Dollar refused to rerun the credit card. Hence no car was rented. CarTrawler has required that I fill out some form stating my complaint and sent an email back saying it could take up to 20 days to resolve this. I am now disputing this charge in full with my credit card company. He ended up renting from Budget. Never again with Dollar or CarTrawler.

When I prepaid my car rental, I thought the whole time I was booking directly with Thrifty because they make it look that way and it is through Thrifty's website, but in fact, you are booking through CarTrawler. When this became known to me was at Thrifty's rental counter when they had no notice of my reservation and couldn't use my voucher. I had to get a completely separate rental at a different rate. When I called Thrifty, I was told that I had to contact the third party company for the refund of the prepaid amount. Thanks Thrifty, you know I am YOUR customer.

Anyway, It has now been exactly 1 month to the day since I contacted CarTrawler about my refund, and I still don't have a refund. I paid them, I didn't get my rental, and they still have my money. I have called 4 times, sent various emails, and submitted documentation they required as proof that I had to get another rental at full price. And nothing.

On the initial email I was sent by them stating that they were opening a case, they said it could be as long as 20 business days to resolve, but I would receive regular updates. It has now been 20 business days, I have no refund, and the only updates I got was when I called them (and got no new info). Worst company ever! Worst customer service ever! They stole my money!!!

I went on holiday 3 weeks ago. To organize this, I did all my reservation 12h before my flight and 18h before to get the car (I had to be the driver). Just after the reservation, in the confirmation, the company ask that the driver has to be the owner of the credit card... but it wasn't mine. So I directly called the customer service to ask if it's a problem. After more than 15 min of waiting (at 23h00), someone take the call. The woman told me that I can't take the car because I am not the card's owner... more of this, I have to cancel and pay 50€ because I cancelled less than 24h before the car receiving. Seriously it was written nowhere that the driver has to be the owner of the credit card and further to this, I have to pay! The worst rental company ever seen in my life.

Came to pick up the car @ Advantage Rent A Car, Burlingame, CA and my booking was declined due to personal insurance matter and advised me to go to other car rental, Firefly. And the car rental confirmed the booking was cancelled by them, not by the customer. The case was logged to CarTrawler since June 10 '15 for me to request the full refund of my booking and last Thurs I was called by cust care representative guy again and gave the same explanation as above. Also he mentioned about penalty charges applied which I disagreed since the cancellation was not done by the customer, it's done by the car rental. He promised to follow up with the car rental after the call and will give me a call back first thing on Monday (today) to settle this case as this has been 3 weeks and no progress seen on the closure of this case.

So far, no return call yet given by cust care representative. LEARNING FROM THIS EXPERIENCE, LET'S BE CAREFUL NOT TO BOOK ANY CAR RENT THROUGH CARTRAWLER AS THERE IS NO COMMITMENT AT ALL IN FOLLOWING UP THE CASE RESOLUTION... JUST TOO MUCH TALK SPENDING OVER THE PHONE, NO QUICK TURN AROUND...

We arrived at the office of Easirent which was the rental outlet given to us by CarTrawler. We showed them the paper work and the immediate response was we don't have any diesel cars in the size you are requesting. I told them that I had specifically requested an Auto diesel in the Golf/Ford Focus size and was reassured at the time of booking I would get a diesel car at least equivalent to a golf if one wasn't available.

The Easirent people told me that they have never had Golf’s and they don't have a diesel car to give me. One of the attendants who was outside said we should have a few available but the female who was attending to me said ignore him he doesn't know what he is talking about. The female attendant then offered me a much larger diesel car but at a much more expensive price which I refused. When I told them I was promised a diesel they said "they always say that", "they keep your deposit as their commission and we get the balance."

The only small car that they had which was in the category size was a Nissan Juke which was a premium unleaded car and had a very uncomfortable driving position. We were virtually given a take it or leave it situation so we had little alternative but to accept the car as we had taken a taxi to their office and had all our luggage with us. I would never use this company again or recommend them to anyone. This was an extremely unpleasant start to our UK holiday.

Then I get to the airport and I give my credit card for a deposit for gas and damage and the car rental company Record Go makes me pay a ridiculous gas tax which actually was twice as much as the rental itself. CarTrawler disclosed that I would have to pay a 21 euro gas tax but the rental company charged me 60 euros. Then I went back to CarTrawler customer service and all they said was that I had signed the agreement and there was nothing they could do. But what choice did I have? If I refused to sign then I wouldn't have gotten the rental and CarTrawler would've kept my money anyway that I prepaid and said that I didn't cancel it in enough time.

Travelers beware. The Orlando International Airport has a page with all of the car rental agencies there. DO NOT CHOOSE DOLLAR! If you click through from that page you are not renting from Dollar but a company called CarTrawler. I placed a reservation through the airport website and when I received my confirmation, there was 38 more dollar on the invoice that I had to pay when I picked up the car. I cancelled that reservation on the morning of the 1st. The representative on the phone said they would send the refund in 7 to 10 days.

Yesterday I emailed a reply to who I received the cancellation from. The email header says DOLLAR cartrawler. I asked when I could expect my refund. I just received back an email stating that I didn't cancel in time and I would not get my money back. I cancelled the morning of the 1st and my pickup was the 3rd at noon. More than 48 hours. Now my emails regarding this keep getting bounced back to me and I cannot contact Cartrawler. I called Dollar and said that I need to contact Cartrawler (whom I can't contact). Came back denied because the address of license was different my credit card. He stated I will need to contact Dollar for a refund. I called Dollar only to find out they used CarTrawler, a company outside of US. This company sends an email stating my money could not be refunded because of I didn't use a valid driver license or credit card. A lie! All of this is via email, sends an out of country number to call them. I will not waste another dime. Even cancelled a future rental with them, it cost me 27.00 extra dollars but I refuse to ever do business with this company again! I will definitely be contacting my financial institution for fraud!

I prepaid online with what I thought was Dollar Rent A Car for a car I was to pick up the following day at Birmingham Alabama airport. When I arrived at the Dollar desk, she said I still owed $25 in taxes, so I gave her my debit card, the same card I had used online the day before with no problem. She said it didn't pass the credit check and so I got out cash, which she wouldn't accept. So I could not get the car. I insisted that they refund my money then and there by crediting my account, and that's when she said I had not booked the car through them but through a third party called CarTrawler.

She called CarTrawler and they put "my case" into an "investigation". I have been in contact with CarTrawler for 2 days now. They are an Irish company. They said they can refund my money, minus $65, and I think it's only because I told them I would contact every investigative agency I knew of to look into their deceptive and fraudulent business practices. These people are crooks, and I will gladly write more letters and make more calls to let it be known to as many folks as possible.
