Budget Rent a Car Fort Lauderdale Airport. Budget agent added the supplemental liability coverage by saying he is charging for collision coverage plus Taxes for the collision coverage that I already had bought through Priceline. He pretended charging for collision coverage that was already paid to Priceline. Recommend not using budget after booking through Priceline, as budget agent that I had experience with trick me into additional coverage by telling something else. So all fellow renters, be alert and always watchful.

This is for people who prepay for their reservation and foolishly think that covers it. Their cars are fine, but you better be exactly on time or they'll change their quoted rate. Anything over 29 minutes different from what you guesstimate at time of reservation and they change the rate. Don't bother trying to return the car early either, that changes it as well. I went round and round with customer service on it... it was like talking to a brick wall. "Well sir, whenever you are outside of the 29 minute grace period, we reopen the reservation and can change the fee structure." WHAT? I RETURNED THE CAR EARLY!!!

My flight was delayed getting in, so I thought I'd be conscientious and let the counter know I would be late to pick up the car. Sure, no problem they said. Turns out they modified my reservation... AND CHARGED ME MORE! So I pick up the car later than expected, and return it earlier than I had guessed. And they charge me more. Go figure. There are too many other options for car rentals to deal with this petty-** BS. And when they're done adding the fees from "modified reservations" it's not that much cheaper than competitors.

I would give this company zero stars if this site would let me. Budget left me and my family (including a 11 month old baby) in the middle of the country with a negative bank balance. We left the state of Maine and stayed the night in a hotel in Ohio. I woke up the next day and attempted to put gas in the truck but my bank card was declined. Come to find out budget had booked and charged me for twice the amount of my rental. This left us with no food, gas, or hotel money for the rest of our trip. I called budget and they said that it would take 5 - 7 business days to refund the money. If it wasn't for family members we would still be stuck in Ohio sleeping in the truck with no food. Thankfully, no thanks to Budget, we have arrived in Arizona (over 2,700 miles later). Still haven't received my money back (over $1000 is owed). DO NOT RENT FROM BUDGET!!! They will screw you over and not care about what kind of bind they leave you in.

I rented a vehicle from Budget online for an economy vehicle. I arrived in Baltimore to get the vehicle and waited in line for approximately 30 minutes. There were 17-19 people in line and there was one person at the counter to handle the customers. After a few minutes a second person came out to assist. Knowing that they had all the reservations coming in at this time, why would they now have more staff?

When I finally got to the counter I was herded off without a greeting, a smile, not any explanations. I got a "Sign here, initial here" conversation. I was handed a key to a Ford Focus, (the online reservation was for a Hyundai) and told to go to a certain spot to get my car. The car itself was ok, although I did wonder why I got a different vehicle. After returning the car, I saw a $74 charge on my credit card. When I inquired I was told that I had an upgrade and something called a "comfort" plan. Since I had no idea what that was, and I certainly did not ask for an upgrade, I called the company. I explained that I had not been made aware of an upgrade, nor had I asked for one. How would I know what Budget considers an economy car? A Ford Focus is an economy car to me.

Anyway the customer service rep was pleasant and related that getting the "comfort" plan is a common occurrence that is not explained and he reversed that charge. However, he would not reverse that "upgrade" which I never knew anything about. To make matters worse, I got an additional bill for app. $25 more. I had to again inquire and was told that this was a fee for the EZ pass in the car. Again I was not told anything about that by the agent. The customer service rep gave me a website to go to so that I could contest a toll, and said it was listed on #30 of the rental agreement.

I asked the customer service rep how long it would take to stand there and read the rental agreement, and she stated that "personally I feel they should tell you of the charges, but it is on the form." Again I asked how long it would take and got no response. Obviously it would take 20 to 30 minutes, including the questions that would no doubt arise. All that while there are 17-19 people in line. To make a long story short, I would not recommend anyone to ever use BUDGET. Their business is nothing but a scam to take advantage of travellers who are already going thru the stress and headaches of air travel. Frankly it amounts to theft. Never again.

I reserved a mini van with Budget Car Rental through Costco Travel. When I arrived to pick it up I was told they had no mini vans. I had a confirmation number and they didn't care. They offered me a 10 passenger panel van Ford Transit or a Chevy Traverse. I needed lots of luggage space for this trip and neither vehicle would suffice. I spoke again to Budget and a Budget supervisor, neither whom cared. Not their problem. I asked for help locating another mini van and they again said they could not help me. I finally ended up renting a mini van from Hertz at twice my quoted price from Costco Travel. I'm very upset with Costco Travel and Budget Rental. Budgets lack of customer service will ensure I don't return there again.

I called the rental at Moncton, NB two days before my arrival which was scheduled for 1:15 am in the morning to see if the rental would stay open so I could book a hotel close to the airport if not. I was assured that that they would stay open if someone on the flight had a rental. I arrived at 1pm, 15 minutes early and immediately made my way to the rental counter. The Avis rental was open and told me that the budget Attendant left 10 minutes earlier. That left me stranded at the airport. I asked Avis if they any vehicles but they only had one ready and it was reserved by someone on my flight. I said if they don't show up I'll take it. After waiting 45 minutes and the Avis Attendant verified with Air Canada that all passengers were off the flight and all luggage was picked up, he rented the vehicle to me. Thanks Avis, that's service. Budget you better learn from Avis!

I rented a car from Budget at the Ft. Myers, FL airport from May 26 to June 4, 2015. I returned the vehicle as scheduled with a full tank of gas. The Budget attendant checked the car, said everything was fine and gave me a receipt. Nine days later when I received my new credit card statement I noticed an additional $42 charge. Checking the Budget website I discovered it was for refueling. My request to Budget to refund my fueling charge was denied. They offered me half as a "goodwill gesture," leaving me cheated out of $21. I have been robbed. I will never rent another vehicle from Budget again.

Very bad experience! They kept me waiting for almost 2 hours, and added the loss damage waiver without my consent. I particularly asked not to add this insurance, since my credit card already covers it. I was too anxious and I did not read the agreement very carefully. After 2 days of my rental (11 days), I called budget to remove this insurance. What they told me is that they cannot remove it during the rental, and I should call them back after I return the car. When I call them back finally after the rental, they said it is denied, and accused me not to driving back to the site... Well, legally, they did nothing wrong, but I will never never rent a car from this company or Avis ever again.

I declined the insurance waiver at the time of rental as well as clearly telling the clerk that I did not want it. When at home I discovered they charged me for it ($255.92). They also charged me a $10.00 late fee when I returned my car 17 hours early.

Once there, the rep was claiming to have trouble with her computer and had to develop another rental agreement. She also "accidentally" placed a hold on my credit card for 300.00 in addition to the price of the rental. Upon return, the rep claimed I had gone over the mileage and said I owed an additional 300.00. Location is in McAllen, TX. Do not rent from them!!

Folks, use a different car rental agency especially if you are a federal or state employee. I am a government employee, and regrettably used BUDGET-AVIS at the Newport News-Williamsburg Airport in VA. The car was picked up on 9 June and returned very early on 12 June 2015. The rental fee was supposed to be around $150.00. Instead, the e-receipt shows $309.41 as the final charge. I did not sign for a rental car upgrade, and I returned the vehicle with a full tank of gas (have receipt), completed the return paperwork properly, etc.

No one was at the Budget Counter at the airport when the car was returned at 0430 on 12 June 2015. So, I turned in the contract with the keys into the drop box as I had been instructed when I picked up the car. Of course, I expected to pay more than the minimum estimate on my orders because there are taxes. However, there's a huge difference between $150 or so vs. $309.41. The good news is the government has a contract with some of the car rental agencies, and BUDGET is one of them. Also, if this is not resolved, I can dispute the charge on the credit card. But all of this, including writing this review, is time wasted to right something that should not have happened in the first place. In summary, use a car rental agency with satisfied customers.

It takes a lot to get me upset and I am pretty loyal even in the face of poor customer service. Call it patience or perhaps laziness. I have been using Budget for decades.. I still use them, but I cannot stand their website.. I typically try and book budget cars through other websites so I don't have to go through Budget's 20 year old website. Their user interface, their customer experience on the website has to be one of the worst. Managing one's profile, password, user ID are the worst. I once lost my user ID, and password... I tried and tried to reset but it wouldn't without the user ID.. I called, and gave them all my information, but they couldn't do anything without the user ID. What kind of verification process is this?

It turns out that my old card number had changed... Only after digging through old mail I found a card they had sent me that I was going to toss... If I had tossed it, I would have been out of luck. I found it and was able to change my password, and get in to the system. In the system, I find an archaic, incomprehensible user interface... I can't find any of my history of car rentals.... When I try and rent a car, it still doesn't have my User ID at the top. It doesn't say if it is Fastbreak, even though it says Fastbreak counter. That is the only reason I use it because of the Fastbreak number, so I can go right through. This company needs to get into 2015 and create a new website with an intuitive UI.. They do have an iPhone App which is as ridiculously useless as the website.. Please, Please get these fixed so that I can use them.

I rented the car on the 10th of June and returned it on the 15th and was charged for 7 days. I said yes I want insurance for 11$ but that is a daily fee if you look close. So they charged an extra 77$ to account for insurance between the 10th and 15th. Duh, I should have known.

I made a reservation with Budget for a rental car in Italy from 5/18 to 5/24/15, and I got a quote of USD 200.79. I admit that when I picked up the car, I requested some extras, which I am perfectly willing to pay for. However, when I returned the car I was charged Euros 518.73, without receiving a detailed statement for the charges, and at the exchange rate in effect on 5/24/15, Euros 518.73 amount to about USD 570.00. I was charged USD 612.79. Not only was I cheated on the exchange rate, Budget took none of my other complaints into consideration. When I picked up the car in Italy, I got a defective GPS from Budget, and I wasted two hours of driving and gasoline. I then returned to Budget and got a new GPS, but no allowance for the gasoline I had wasted.

Beware of car rentals in Europe which you book in the US. Last fall I booked a car through Auto Europe in Belgium and I had to pick the car up at Hertz in Belgium. The quote from Auto Europe was USD 211.50, the final charge from Hertz was USD 471.53. I call this cheating the customer. I would recommend to everyone to travel to Europe and rent a car locally, but don't book it in the US.

And the employee (only one present in the office) started screaming at me and said I did not say "Please." He kept coming forward towards me making it look like he would attack me. As a female, I felt very unsafe. I kept trying to calm him down but he kept getting more emotional with every second. He finally screamed "Get the ** out of here!"

When I called later for manager, he picked up and kept screaming again and told me "Get your man over here." I felt violated, especially since I had done business with Budget. Such unprofessional and violent behavior, Budget definitely needs to offer anger management to employees who need help. Obviously, I have contacted Budget Customer Care about this but obviously Budget has not taken any action about at least apologizing to me. The employee has all my personal information and may even start abusing this info in his possession. With such cheap customer service, it makes me wonder if the store manager actually WANTS his/her employees to behave this way. I will never go to Budget again. They were going to charge me $150 fee for 'excessive dirt'! I rented a car to drive from Dallas to Big Bend with my 4-year old son and my dad. Great trip, beautiful part of the country, but involved a LOT of driving. Needless to say, between hiking in the desert and spending between 2 and 8 hours a day in the car, we got dirt and food crumbs in the car. I cannot deny, it NEEDED to be vacuumed. However, vacuuming and a little wipe down of the dash (seriously, it wasn't even dusty) was all that was needed to properly and completely clean the car. I know the low level of effort required for a fact because when I tried to drop the car off with Budget, I was informed I needed to clean it myself or I would have to pay them $150 dollars to clean it.

Fortunately, I was in the position (sort of, as I was actually supposed to be at work) that I had time to take my dad to the airport, come back to the rental office, pick up the car, and take it to a car wash where I observed one guy who spent 15 minutes vacuuming and another guy spent about 5 minutes wiping down the dash, console, and windows. Budget was going to charge me $150 for 20 minutes of work! Furthermore, they reserve the right to charge you up to $250 for anything they determine is excessive dirt up to 24 hours after you leave the car, at which point you have no recourse! What if you have to rush to catch a flight and can't clean it before you drop it off? Seems to me, shelling out $50/day to rent a car should net you a little customer service with the vacuum.

I also fail to see how dirt, whether mud or food crumbs, that is easily vacuumed is considered excessive. Surely, they're vacuuming these cars before the next person takes it, anyway? I suspect not. Also, I think it is downright criminal to charge $150 for 20 minutes of work. Insulting, really. They kept telling me how they were doing me a favor by letting me go clean the car myself! Seems like a sham so they show up on search engines as the lowest cost, but still get $150-$250 out of you in the end.

I was informed by the customer service that this charge would be $116-extra! (Which I consider "gouging"). I am a senior citizen and on a fixed income and because of this outrageous price I was able to enjoy sleeping in the airport!!! For those 8 hours that the car sat in the rental garage. Therefore, I will never use Budget for any further rentals!

My wife and I recently went on a vacation with our 2 children and rented a car from Budget car rentals. We were greeted at the rental counter by a very friendly staff and were having multiple conversations between the staff members and our family regarding where we were from, and what we would be doing while visiting the state (New Mexico). They pointed at the monitor for us to check off what we thought were the appropriate boxes regarding extra insurance, mileage, gas. The standard stuff on the agreement forms while we were all engaged in pleasant conversation. How wrong we were. When it was time for us to return the car we were searching for a gas station so that we could replace the 14 gallons we had used on our vacation. There were no gas stations visible from the freeway, and the few times we took an off-ramp there were no gas stations, or signs indicating a gas station around.

Since we were unfamiliar with our surroundings, and we had to get to the airport, we decided to just bring the car back and pay the extra price per gallon to have Budget refill the tank. Apparently, since we did not check the box to have them fill up the tank when we returned the rental, the price changed from what would have been $2.45 per gallon to $9.29 PER GALLON! The fuel charge totaled $130.98 for $34 worth of gas!!! Almost a $100 extra charge just because the box was unchecked. This information was buried in the agreement, was not made clear to us initially, and as I mentioned earlier, we were distracted by pleasant conversation at the time of the rental. When we asked to have the punitive amount taken off and replaced with what the price would have been had we known how ridiculous the charge would be, we were coldly told that "That's what you agreed to."

When I asked WHY the cost PER GALLON was so high they mechanically responded, "That's policy." There was zero compassion and understanding from the staff as to why we would be irate at an almost $7 dollar PER GALLON service charge. Every response was like a recording, "That's policy", "That's what you agreed to". When I asked them "Who in their right mind would EVER agree to that type of charge?" they keep up with their impersonal mantra. By-the-way, this was on Mother's Day. We asked to speak with the manager (**) and as you can probably guess, she responded with the same inhuman responses - no compassion and zero customer service. I reminded the manager that this was Mother's Day and that my wife, and mother of my children, was devastated at the lack of caring and understanding we were being shown by Budget. The manager quipped, "Well, I'm not going to do anything to reduce the charges".

I then responded, "So you could do something, you just won't right? It is up to you." The manager replied, "I can give you the entire rental for free if I wanted. I'm not going to do anything." When I returned home I called the customer service number and was given the exact same responses. No help at all and once again, no compassion. The phone representative went into repeat mode stating "It is a valid charge." I responded, "$9.29 per gallon is NEVER a valid charge when gas prices in that state are around $2.30 a gallon." You'd be surprised that his response was, "It is a valid charge." They couldn't care less about me as a customer and they have made it clear that is the case. I am merely a case number to them. I'm not sure why the phone number listed was referred to as a customer service number. The outrage I felt was/is palatable. No willingness to compromise on behalf of the customer what-so-ever!

Just animatronic responses and a pass-the-buck mentality. If Budget Car Rentals, a company we have rented with for years and spent thousands of dollars with, is incapable of the most basic customer service or general decency, I suggest everyone stay clear of them. I guess they are doing so well that one small customer doesn't matter to them. The treatment I have received has turned me into an advocate against Avis/Budget group. I have a case pending with their corporate offices but from what I've experience from multiple Budget representatives, I fear the only recourse I have is to shout it from the mountain top how horribly they treat their customers if there happens to be an issue of sorts. I teach college and will make it my mission to educate the thousands of students I have to avoid using Budget or Avis. My voice is small but much bigger than most.

My husband and I have rented vehicles at RSW for over 20 years and have never been charged a cleaning fee until this year to the tune of $150. We rented a compact vehicle for two weeks and prior to leaving the garage I mentioned to the individual in the booth that the front seats were dirty and the windows weren't cleaned very well. She didn't seem to feel that was enough of an issue to note and moved us on.

However, we returned the vehicle after a two week rental, attendant looked over the car saying nothing about the car and a week later we received a letter/credit card charged for the amount of $150 for Excessive Sand/Dirt in the Front of the Car. There seems to be double standards here. My rental wasn't completely dirt free when I received it yet they are charging us $150 to detail a compact car (basically vac out the vehicle). Done with Budget!

Beware the "Our computers are down" scam. Booked online for a compact car for 2 weeks in France ... Upon arrival at Paris CDG we were told that the computer system was down and they couldn't see all of the details of our on-line agreement. We hand filled out a rental agreement and because the computers were down they could not tell us how much each additional service or insurance would be ... We were getting frustrated at the lengthy delays and finally a supervisor of sorts intervened. He looked at our new signed handwritten rental form and said that everything would be OK... They would sort everything out once the system was back up and we could go over it upon our return.

2 Weeks later we returned just before our flight and wouldn't you know it ... "sorry the computer systems down and we can't see our contract." 4 Days later we receive CC update that showed a charge 300% higher than our on-line reservation price. Neither Budget Canada nor Budget International would listen to our claim because they base their decisions on is a signed contract and not verbal interactions. We unwittingly paid for 3 insurances, an additional driver and some sort of USB charger. They have lost my trust and forever have lost a customer ... I would recommend everybody else to do the same .

Same thing happened to a man in the bus when I told him our experience. He said, "I didn't check my receipt. Oh migosh. I'm way overcharged", obviously not an accident. Response from Budget was, "rates must have changed after you rented the car"! Otherwise, total disinterest on the part of Budget or Avis. Incidentally all records of the gross overcharge disappeared from the files immediately after the counter agent "corrected it".

2nd disappointment: Car lighter wasn't working. I realized it when I hit the road. So I couldn't come back. It was really important to me to charge the battery of my smart phone. It might be happened when I parked the car outside - I am not sure.

I am ok with the charging costs but I am not ok with the attitudes of your crew. On Monday nothing I called office they said to me tomorrow. On Tuesday I called and e mail them. Immediately I received an e mail with an invoice in Bosnian language. Please read our conversations with Mrs. **. I asked her what are the details and what's her reply acting like she can't understand English now. Other odd thing please check the invoice Car repaired at Banja LUKA (on the signed stamp) which is 4 hours away from Sarajevo. I bet this is also their company. They should let me see the damage on airport but they didn't. I confirmed the payment because I had no other choice. Please check between 2nd of May and 5th of May this has this car rented to any other client or has it ever been in Banja Luka for an real repairment?

I trusted the liability of your company and by the way your crew in Turkey they are perfect. But I am sorry to say that I have mistaken to choose your company to rent a car in Sarajevo airport. I will never ever rent a car from Budget again.

We booked a car online for a trip. The posted hours at our local location were from 8am-12pm on a Saturday. (We did not prepay, thank goodness). I did think that was odd, since this budget is located inside a Sears and Sears did not open until 10am, but I was assured by the online chat agent that Budget is there and open. Well, sure enough we arrived at 9am and no one was there, doors were locked. There happened to be a keyholder employee arriving at the same time and we asked him about the Budget counter. He said they NEVER open until 10 and sometimes later. So we gave them the benefit of the doubt, grabbed some breakfast, and arrived at 10am. Still no one there.

We called the corporate number and were told to call a local number. The local number went right to the ringing phone at the empty Budget counter next to us. Called corporate again, got disconnected. Called corporate again, and this time they said we basically just have to wait for an agent to get there because they don't know what to do either. We had a trip to leave for, so we said forget it. The corporate employee was trying to bully us into staying, saying no refunds. I told him I had not yet paid so there was no refund to be issued. I had also not yet given them a credit card number. Sure enough, about 3 months later I received a collection letter from a collection agency (not Budget) saying I owe the price of the reservation plus about another $400 in attorney fees. I checked my credit and it's not on there, so I'll just keep monitoring that.

This is in a dimly lit parking garage. I did as I was told but saw nothing of any note. I returned the car several days later, and the agent walked around the car and looked at it, gave me my receipt, and told me to have a good flight.

I drafted a letter to them that I will send out on Monday asking them for a time stamped pictures of the car immediately before I rented it, and time stamped pictures when I returned it. I had my insurance policy STAPLED to Costco's confirmation letter to show that I had coverage in Canada. I showed it to the agent and told him that I did not want to purchase their coverage. The agent said to initial several places on their rental agreement to show that their services had been offered. This included the $442.22 written within their policy on travel outside British Columbia which we had no intention to do. We were charged $367.19 on our credit card by Budget because according to them I approved the $442.22 as an estimated total charge. We are seniors and felt grossly taken advantage of by an agent who claimed that he was new and his English difficult to follow.

Budget completely ignored our Costco reservation with UNLIMITED MILEAGE and cost of $134.58 and gave us their own contract with limited mileage and insurance coverage and a $442.22 cost. I am also surprised by the number of complaints online about Budget at this location even by a former employee who felt sorry about their treatment of seniors. And at this location, it is hard to argue when time is of the essence and there is a plane to catch. I signed everything that the agent requested saying that he went over everything with me. The booking was made on line on Saturday 4 April for Monday 6 April with collection from Farnborough airport. When I arrived at the booking time, I found the Budget/Avis office closed with a sign saying that it was closed on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. Monday was a Bank Holiday. I rang the office number and on a couple of occasions and was told that I was second in a queue but never advanced any further. The phone could be heard ringing in the office. Shortly after another customer arrived in exactly the same situation.

I rang the number provided again but this time chose another option on the IVR and was answered by a call centre in Spain. I explained the situation and was put on hold and then cut off. I repeated the process and was put on hold for an excessive period. This process was repeated a number of times. I asked on one occasion to be rung back but was told that they could not do this. I asked another time, and they said they would but no call came. In total I rang 5 or 6 times. Eventually I was put through to ** a supervisor and explained the situation. The solution I was offered was for me to get to Heathrow some 20 miles away on a Bank Holiday with limited public transport and one of the busiest days of the year at the airport. In total these calls cost me in excess of 18 as I was calling from a mobile.

I opted at great inconvenience to me, to have a call delivered to home the next day but in order to do this I had to book another car with Avis and had to pay for it. I explained at the time that I was not happy having to pay anything for the car but was told that this would be addressed after the completion of the car hire. I was told that the car would be delivered by noon the next day. I wrote all of these details down on your web enquiry form but heard back nothing. At about 12.15 the next day I received a call from ** saying that the car would be delivered shortly which it duly was. He also told me that customer services would call me the following Monday at the end of the hire to discuss the refund issue. The hire went without incident and we returned the car to Farnborough last Saturday.

The Monday when I was supposed to receive the call from customer service, came and went, and on Tuesday I received a call from Spain again telling me the first refund was only just being processed. This was like a red rag to a bull, as I had been told by ** that that refund had already been processed. I asked the agent about the refund for the second car and he said he'd look into it and call me back. I made clear that anything less than a full refund would be met with contempt.

I was called back a short while later and was offered a refund of about 68, which I think was about half the rental. The agent's English was poor and difficult to understand. I explained that this was an insult given the level of service, and rather than accept part settlement I would rather keep my freedom to tell everyone about the service that I had got from such a major international brand. I explained that I had put all this in writing before and not heard anything back. He put me on hold as he investigated but the line went dead and he never bothered to call back.

Today I have checked my bank account and I have been refunded the original car hire from Budget and 68 of the 88 of the hire from Avis although I explicitly refused this as settlement. Avis's final offer was to reimburse me for 118 still leaving me to pay 18 for the deposit. The company believe this to be a reasonable settlement but my view is that given the level of incompetence that the company has shown and the great inconvenience caused to me that they should reimburse me entirely.

I rented in Midland, went to the counter to where the agent filled out many keystrokes of additional information. I was supposed to be all set-up for website car registrations and the ability to bypass the rental desk… NOT SO.

Upon my next reservation, the website did not recognize me, would not accept a Fastbreak 3-page entry, and although it’s truly amazing to believe, there was NOT a Button to accept my entries! So I spoke to another 3 customer care folks and after the "you must be stupid or crazy" body language, they manually set-up the rental. If this was my company, I would FIRE the IT VP and start over. I have worked for years with accounting software and this is NOT rocket science. Sell your Budget stock and find another rental car company - this one is an accident and will not survive today's competitive business environment.

I signed to rent a car for one day with a drop off in another city. Instead I was charged by the 14806 oxnard st. van nuys 91411 rental office, for over a week of rental. I called to bring the car back to the original office after one day, but agreed to keep the car until monday because I needed it, which would have been 4 days. The car did not start on the fourth day, giving me only 3 days of car use. The office had the car picked up by budget, it having a dead battery after being parked all night.

Immediately I was charged for $306, over a week of rental charges, even though the company picked up the car that day, with me having the car working only 3 days. The office refused to answer any questions or return calls. I needed to file a claim with my bank. I never signed any authorization or rental for a week, but only the original contract for a 1 day rental. I have never had anything like this happen to me before, where a car rental business or any business removes money from my account without authorization and for services never received.

I rented an SUV for a 10 day ski trip. No problems with the rental process, and on return the Budget employee looked over the car, said everything was fine and sent me on my way. At the end of the month I received a letter dated TWO WEEKS after the return saying the car had "excessive dirt and sand on the front carpet", and they were going to charge my credit card $75 for cleaning. I don't question that the car was dirty, or even object to their excessive cleaning charge. But why was nothing said on the return inspection? What can I expect next time - weeks after the return I get a bill for a dented fender? I'm done with Budget.

When I was finally helped, I was told what car I was getting and told initial here, here, and here. Sign at the bottom. I did so in a rush, as it was late and I had to be up at 5am. There was no mention of an upgrade. I was confused about the 2 separate charges to my debit card, totaling over $700, but was told that part was a hold and the charge would be corrected when I returned the car. I ended up being charged an extra $200 for an upgrade I did not ask for or ok. I was told later that a box I was told to initial was for an upgrade. The agent at the desk never asked me. This is clearly bait and switch. Myself and my company will never use Budget again. When I realized what happened and called the customer service number I was told I asked for an upgrade. We rented a BUDGET car. We returned the car in perfect condition. No issues. And that fact was noted on the turn-in sheet after two employees did a walk-around with us. Upon return to the service desk to pay we were told that we would be charged $200 extra for a scratched tire. We objected and wanted more information. The story then changed.

We were then told it was a bent wheel and that the original inspection had not revealed this issue. We asked to speak to the kid who looked at the car and were told he had left. We insisted and he finally (very slowly, island time you know) walked up and said he found a dent in the wheel. We insisted on seeing such damage and we were told we could not because the car was being washed. We insisted on speaking to a supervisor who, after several minutes on the phone with the counter employee before speaking to us, immediately indicated we owed them $200 for damage. We insisted that we see the damage and he ordered the car to be brought up. It took a while. We were at risk of missing our plane. They were counting on our giving up.

When the car finally showed up the front hubcap was half removed. The kid insisted we drove it in like that... which was absurd. We asked to see the dent in the wheel and they pointed to some white chalk along two inches of the wheels rim which, they claimed, 'proved' the wheel had been damaged. None of the three Budget employees on site could point out ANY damage to the wheel but they insisted we were to be charged $200 for a new wheel. They charged our card. THAT is a scam!

Then they send a bill 1 month later to my hotel address in USA (I'm now back in UK a whole month.) The bill for $150 for smoking in the car. Problem is, I don't and have never smoked in my life. Neither did I have passengers in the car during my trip. Bigger issue is I can't prove this unlike I could have with damage to the car as I always photograph car before handing back. Nice little money spinner with no way to contest it. Especially a month after the initial rental.

I wish I could have given a rating of 0 stars. I rented a car from Budget on 4/2/2015 and returned it on 4/6/2015. I used the prepay online service and paid for my rental in the amount of $75.06. When I went to pick the car up, I was told a deposit would be held on my debit card. I was aware of this, it stated $100 deposit on the website when I did my reservation and paid online. So, I returned the car, tank was full, car was clean on 4/6/15. I received my receipt. A few days later, I checked my bank account and noticed the $100 was still being held out of my account. The first unprofessional person I talked to at Budget said that the hold would be released after 3-5 business days.

The following Monday, I called again and spoke to another unprofessional person who said that the money should have been released already, because an electronic release was sent to my credit union on 4/6 when I returned the car. I called my credit union and they stated they had not received any notification from Budget to release the funds back to my account. So once again, I called Budget only to speak with another clueless person who stated that the money would be released in 7-10 business days. I asked to speak to a manager and they refused to transfer the call stating that a manager was not available. I spoke with my credit union again and they still hadn't received anything. I waited another day before calling the clueless people at Budget.

The next day, I spoke to another one of those people who stated that the release was sent to my credit union and they're holding on to my funds. I asked to speak to a manager and once again was told that one wasn't available. I got tired of the runaround so I filed a complaint with the BBB. I called my credit union back today 4/21/2015 and was told by my credit union that the hold by Budget had been extended until 5/2/2015 per request of Budget. So these people are holding my deposit for 30 days for no reason. Then they train their ignorant staff to lie and say that they have done what they are supposed to do and deny customers the right to speak to a manager who I am 100% sure is just as ignorant and clueless as the representatives.

I am filing complaints with every entity possible. I suggest anyone who has had issues with them to do the same. Their practices are unlawful and they need to be shut down permanently. I WILL NEVER RENT ANOTHER CAR FROM THIS COMPANY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's a reason why they are the cheapest around.

I prepaid for my rental on budget.com declining all offers for upgrades or extra insurance and liability coverage. Upon picking up my car at the airport I was again asked if I wanted upgrades, which by the way the agent cleverly disguised as just an offer for a different car. It wasn't until I asked "does that cost extra" did she tell me that it did. Again, I declined all offers for upgrades. The agent then asked about extra insurance and liability coverage, I declined that as well stating that I have coverage though American Express and I would not need extra coverage. She said "O.K." then she walked away. When she came back to the counter, she said "Now I just need you to sign and we'll get you on your way". So I signed what she lead me to believe was a rental car agreement.

Upon looking at my credit card statement I noticed that there was an extra charge for Supplemental Liability Insurance. I never agreed to this charge, it looks like she entered that I declined all the other offers but accepted the supplemental liability insurance. It is ridiculous that I would accept this coverage after just having explained why I did not want it. Her actions were unethical and sneaky. I have called Budget to dispute the charge, the customer service agent could not help me and told me that someone would contact me in 48 hours regarding the charge. I then called American Express to dispute the charge and they thankfully are trying to help me sort this out. For anyone thinking of renting from Budget, I would advise that you read carefully what you are signing for and not let them rush you through the signing process.

I rented a car out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and returned it to the West Palm Beach, FL locations with no problems. No damages or excessive dirt or anything else was noted and I was on my way. About 2 weeks later, I received a letter saying that $75 will be charged to my credit card because "we discovered excessive sand/dirt in the interior of the car."

First of all, I received the car in a somewhat dirty state - there was already some sand on the seats and the floor mats were not perfectly clean either, but I didn't complain, and figured that I will probably get it somewhat dirty anyway. After all, they get paid to clean their cars, right? I assume that when I, the consumer, pay for the rental, that this covers the normal amount of maintenance and cleaning required to rent the car again. Should I also be charged for an oil change because I put too much stress on the engine? What other kinds of petty charges could they make up?

I am sure the car did have some extra sand, but not "excessive" sand, and it would certainly not be enough to warrant an extra cleaning fee, especially considering that the car I received was already dirty! Was I supposed to clean the car myself? I have been renting cars for about 15 years and have never been charged like this.

I tried calling Budget's main number and the lady I spoke with did not see any extra charges for my rental agreement number and directed me to call the location where I dropped off the car. I call them and get transferred to some guy who was a bit rude, then "put me on hold", and later hung up on me. I called back and he told me to call back at 3pm to talk to some other guy called ** because they don't handle those extra charges, basically giving me the run-around. I refuse to go on a wild goose chase, so I will be handing this through my credit card company to dispute the charge. And now I have to waste time and effort writing reviews and calling various people to deal with this.

No rental car company is perfect, but this is the first truly bad experience I've had with any of them. Budget (or at least that particular location) is fraudulent, rude, untrustworthy, and I will be avoiding them in the future. We have other choices, but I'm sure they don't care, as the sheer volume of customers is more than enough make up for a few bad experiences. Business ethics? What's that?

Arrived at the Phoenix airport on Saturday, March 28th. Reserved a Ford SUV because we had four people and four golf bags. I researched the trunk size and saw that Budget advertises a Ford or Nissan as their SUVs. Both of these would have suitable trunk space. When we arrived at the Budget site, we were told to "take a number", even though we already had a reserved car and confirmation. We were told that the wait would be 20 minutes. After an HOUR and FIVE minutes, our number was finally called. At the counter, we were told they were out of the Ford, and that we could have a Toyota RAV. A Toyota RAV was not one of the cars listed on the rental site, and has a much smaller trunk. We said that was not acceptable, and so they offered us an "upgrade".

On the site, it states that if Budget does not have a "similar" car, then the upgrade would be free. NOT SO! We were quoted a price of $146.00 a DAY for a larger SUV. Yes, you read that correctly....$146.00 a day MORE for the upgrade. We argued and finally it was decided that since we had a Costco card, suddenly the rate could be dropped from $146.00 a day to $47.00 a day. Really? What changed? Such an arbitrary way of pricing. Finally out of total frustration, we signed the agreement so we could continue on our trip and check in to our condo on time. When we returned to Budget after our vacation, the final bill for our rental car for the week was 911.00. Our original confirmation, which said "includes taxes and fees", was for $498.00. WOW. Big difference.

So, when we got back, I called Budget. Spoke to a very disagreeable man who was not at all interested in my situation. In fact, he was argumentative and constantly interrupting my description of the events. His ongoing line was "well, once you sign the agreement, we can't do anything else about it - it was your fault you signed the agreement." I'm not sure what else we were supposed to do when four of us are sitting on the floor in the airport with four golf bags and luggage for over an hour. I asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told that no one was available. I insisted, so the argumentative man said that he would take my number and someone would call back in 48 hours.

I did in fact get the phone call, the only guarantee from Budget that came true. The supervisor also said that since we signed the agreement for the outrageously expensive upgrade, that they could no longer help us. She said that the high fees were due to Easter week/spring break, where the prices are raised significantly because of "availability." We asked her to be specific. She explained that they might not have a car available due to the high volume of requests. We responded that we thought that is what a "reservation" is for. Needless to say, nothing will be done to credit our account with the bogus upgrade fee.

When you see on Budget's website that there is a "free upgrade" when they don't have the similar car, BEWARE. This is not true. Of course I will never use Budget again, nor will the people I was traveling with. Shame on you Budget, you already got a ton of my money. It would have been good, fair business to offer us a refund. Instead, you lost valuable customers.

Although my experience isn't as bad as some of the others, I believe that the Budget operation in the Philly airport has set the bar for gross incompetence. Additionally, I am attempting to have them correct their billing me for gas, when I filled it up before drop off. When I picked up the car, I was second in line, but had to wait half hour for the person in front of me and it took them a half hour to process my paperwork and get my car out front for pick up. My business co-travelers could not believe how long it took, but we all chalked it up to a bad day.

So I filled the car with gas before dropping it off at the end of the week. Curiously, the attendant who checked me out was not able to print out a receipt from his portable machine. He said that I could just leave and they would email me the receipt. Not comfortable with that, I decided to go back inside and wait in line to get a receipt that should have been available when I dropped off the car. So after about another half hour wait in a line that was not moving, and worried about missing my flight home, I asked another attendant outside if he could get me a receipt. He handed me paperwork and we rushed off to catch our plane.

Naturally, that was a mistake. When I looked at the paperwork I discovered that he had not given me a receipt, but just another copy of my initial paperwork. When I called Customer Service to request an email bill, I learned that they charged me $40 for gasoline. I had filled it up to the top and offered to send them a copy of the receipt. No they could not handle that and was told to call the airport directly. So after several calls and no answer, I am realizing that I have just been scammed for $40. Not a huge loss, but the overall horrible service was a real eye opener. Absolutely never again Budget.

I reserved a car months before my trip (a full size) for $342.85 for 6 days. I was traveling with my elderly parents and was very tired from the long trip and anxious to just get in my car and go. After another hour wait to get to the Budget counter, the agent advised me I could get into an SUV for a small upgrade price. I agreed and just signed the contract without really looking (my mistake). I don't worry about money that much so a few more dollars was fine for me. When I got to my destination I looked at the bill and it was $608.65, this is 78% higher then my original reservation. I called the location and talked with the manager and he told me too bad, you signed the agreement. The agent that served me, if he was customer service oriented, should have pointed out the large increase and not told me it would be a small amount more.

I know I can't do anything about it since it was my fault signing without looking, but I can do a couple of things. Never rent from Budget again and blog about my experience. Their excuse was that it was Spring Training in Phoenix so prices are higher. Fine, but don't tell me it's a small upgrade when it was 78% higher, I would expect around 25% as a reasonable upgrade price. I would have been perfectly fine staying in the full size. Last time I was in PHX I used Alamo. I will go back to them from now on.

Good news I was getting towed. Bad news, it was a wrecker service 1 1/2 away that was not part of their roadside assistance. He got there, had to unload car, get trailer on flat bed and tow my car. All said this took 5 hours of sitting on the side of road with truck running and my other truck running to keep warm due to it Michigan and in the teens and I have kids and animals. Talked to customer care several times, burned 1/4 tank in both trucks waiting and got my car home 2 hours later then we got home and they offered my $80 for my trouble. Never use Budget.

Beware-never prepay your reservation with them using your debit card. They will gladly take the money off the debit card when placing the reservation, but when you go to pick up the vehicle they will run a credit check. Without perfect credit they will cancel the reservation and your refund will be returned in 5-7 business days. If this is their policy they should run the credit check when placing order with a debit card and refuse the reservation at that time vs leaving a paying customer stranded without a vehicle and their money for 5-7 days! March 5th, the weather in N.E region of US was very poor. Our flight into Newark was cancelled due to plane incident at LaGuardia airport. Immediately after finding a flight out the next day for us to attend immediate family wedding, we contacted Budget Car Rental to notify them that we will not be arriving on the 5th to pick up our rental car. The phone representative was told by us that our plane will be landing on March 6th at 11:45pm and can we please change our rental to March 7th around 1 AM. Representative told us that our Confirmation # would remain the same and there will be a car waiting for us.

Arrived in Newark 11:40pm on March 6th and were at the customer counter at 12:17am March 7th. Customer representative asked our name and she said we weren't on March 7th print-out that she just printed. I asked if we could rent a car and get on our way and explained to her the same story I just wrote about our delay due to cancelled flight. Representative at this point started waving this computer print out next to her face and above her head saying our name was not on this sheet. Representative stated that we were to pick up our car on March 6th and we weren't on the March 7th print out again waving it.

At this point with the long travel mix up from day before, I just wanted my family and I to get on the road for an hour drive to Bear Mountain Lodge. I said to the representative again about the mix-up, we need a car and that I believe this problem was Budget Rental doing and we just wanted a car. Representative at that point slammed our paper work with confirmation # on the counter and told me they weren't going to rent a car to me due to my attitude and move away from counter. Words were exchanged and I was told at that point the Port Authority was going to arrest me and spend the night in jail. I didn't even raise my voice.

We are now at 12:30 am on March 7th in rental area with limited monorail service. Due to (2) other rental companies had no cars for walk-in at that station we had to go to a completely different monorail station and hope to find a rental company that was taking walk-ins. Hertz was our hero and the customer service representative there was very helpful and made us feel safe to know we could make the wedding without any further problems.

I've been using Budget for the last year. I've spent approximately 3 thousand dollars with them so far. It's unfortunate for me that I don't use credit cards and Budget is the only one that I know of that allows Debit Cards-which personally I don't get since Debit Cards is using my real money-not loans through Credit Card Companies.

Anyway, every time I've used Budget, I've encountered problems. The last time was one of the worst when my vehicle died on me while having my young son with me. It took 3 hours to get the car running and when I got it home, the next day was the return date-and it died on me. I had no choice but to keep it again for another day which I was charged for it- even after speaking to Budget directly about the problem, they said they wouldn't charge me but did. It took Budget two months to pay back this money in which I had to constantly call and email them till finally they reimbursed me.

The person I spoke to 2 months ago said that I would be reimbursed and get a significant discount for my next rental which just so happens to be next week for which I have a reservation. They told me that the reimbursement was their favor to me and that there would be no other action in my favor- they thanked me and wrote, "Sorry for the confusion."

I wrote them back telling them that there's no confusion on my end, but that it's on Budgets end! That I was told I would receive discounts for my next rental for my troubles. I was stranded twice with my son in this car in areas unknown to us with no help and then couldn't return the car because of the battery dying. Anyway, I get an email back saying they'd send me a 25 dollar coupon that I'll receive in 8 weeks. Meanwhile, they're aware that I'm renting from them next week.

It's the games these people play. They don't care about their customers. I can tell you a prior time how they had the audacity to rent me a car that had cigarette burns all over the seats, it smelled like alcohol, the power steering was off/not aligned and the trunk wouldn't open. Or how about the time they took 55 dollars out of my bank account 3 months after renting because they said that I owed them money?? No warning, just took it out 55 dollars 3 months later which I disputed and lost.

Maybe I should go ahead and keep a credit card after all so that I'm not stranded to use such a terrible business who obviously doesn't care about my safety or experience. And I didn't even talk about the rudeness I experienced in person at the Budget desk at the Airport! Terrible company, if you have options, don't use Budget!

On Thurs. Aug. 28th, 2014, my mom and I arrived in Sky Harbor Az. Picked up our pre-arranged vehicle from Budget Car rental at the airport. On Friday night, we noticed it was making a funny engine sound, we called Budget first thing am on Sat. morning. My mother was instructed to return the vehicle (Nissan Murano) to the local Budget dealer on Bell street, which we did. The store employee drove the car in the parking lot and agreed there was something mechanically wrong with this car. He did a walk around and confirmed there was nothing visibly wrong with this car, however, we did find it odd that when we asked him what the rules were if my husband or I wanted to drive, he said "they try to push the extra charge on you, I won't admit this if asked, but you don't need it if you have your own insurance."

Thankfully, we didn't take his word for it. Now, 7 months later, my mom gets a $733.00 collections letter in the mail from Viking Client Services out of MN. After 3 days of being put on hold and 30 transfers, my mother finds out that Budget is claiming front end damage on the first car. This is not true. We never damaged this car in any way. My mom never drove alone, and not one time did we bump something or anyone bump us. The employee walked around it and verified there was no new damage. Here is the clincher, Apparently, That store is the one that turned the damage in.

We have disputed this and will be contacting the attorney General's office. We will not pay this as we did not damage this or any vehicle. My mother has a perfect, I mean perfect driving record and she is 82. Never a ticket or accident in her life. I am 48 and never had a ticket or accident since I was 16 years old. We are absolutely disgusted with Budget and will NEVER rent or recommend them again.

I left an expensive article in the vehicle and only realized it once I was 1,200 miles away. Only after getting the airport police involved did Budget give any sign that they were "aware of the left article". The only contact still directly from Budget is, "Each year the Budget team finds hundreds of cell phones, CDs, sunglasses and other personal items in our vehicles, and in our rental locations" insinuating it's a trustworthy company. But this was no cell phone, this item value's over $1,500 and would be very obvious to any employee cleaning out the car after its return.

I am not stating they are responsible for my belongings, but the least they could do is acknowledge the fact that someone was looking/searching the car and "lost and found" for me. It took a police officer tracking down a manager and car in order for anything to be done. At this point, I have yet to be contacted by Budget other than a automated response to a complaint on its social media Facebook page. Budget is sure to charge customers a load for one nick of its rentals, but leave an article in the rental and the employees throw their hands up and look the other way.

We were assured that someone would be at the counter to make sure we got our car. When we did arrive on 11/25/2014 and went to the counter it was closed. We were not the only ones standing there wonder why there was not an attendant at the counter. I call Budget rental and spoke with the person who was employed at that particular Budget rental. I was told that no one would be there until the next morning.

To get to our destination that evening we had to take a cab which cost us $100.00 dollar. The next morning we called the same Budget rental and ask about retrieving our car. Once again we got no satisfaction, in order to get our car we had to once again take a taxi to the airport which was another $100.00. Now we are down $200.00 not including the tip. When we arrived at the airport to get our car, and told them how unhappy we were about the entire situation they did nothing to compensate us for out of pocket expenses. We spoke with the regional manager, **, and he basically said, "Sorry about your luck" and "I do not think someone told you we would be opened."

Upon our return to Ohio, I called the corporate office to see what they could do to make "the customer" happy. Basically they said the same thing, nothing was ever done, no one said they were sorry this happened. No percentage was taken off... what the heck. I am a very unhappy person. I will never rent from Budget again and have told everyone I work with (I am a teacher so that is a lot of people in the district) and anyone that I come in contact with that this company is horrible and is not consumer friendly... I had to wait 5 hours for them to bring a new vehicle, greatly delaying our plans.

A month and a half later, I received a notice that they were going to charge me an additional $281.60 for roadside assistance. I at no time requested or needed roadside assistance. I could have easily changed the tire or kept driving and stop frequently to fill it. Two days later ** e-mailed me that they were going to charge me the full $281.60 since I needed it, even though I did not request it. I escalated it to ** in the Executive Office of Budget. He said the most he could do is charge me half, claiming I could have refused to listen to Budget's instructions that they were going to switch out the car.

Then I asked for a receipt, so I could submit it to my insurance, which covers roadside assistance. Over a week and a half, I asked daily, and each time I received a receipt (from **) it either was for the incorrect amount or did not list roadside assistance at all. I called ** to complain, and asked if I could speak to his supervisor. He told me that there was not one higher than him in Budget, and refused to allow me to speak to anyone else. We called Budget and were told we would be responsible for replacing the tire and it had to be the exact tire on the car already. Bad enough. We waited for Budget to come put on the spare while we waited on 95 for 3 hours. Finally called our OWN AAA and they came and put on the spare. No word from Budget. We drove to a tire dealer where we ordered the tire and were told it would be available the next morning.

After then driving to a motel, since it was too late to get back on the road, someone from a towing company called to say they had a replacement car for us... What?? Who knows where it came from, as it took well over 3 hours. We exchanged cars IN THE DARK, with no chance to inspect the car, as you would do in renting. Cancelled the tire we had ordered and we continued on our trip and returned the replacement car as scheduled at the end of our trip. We paid and left. No issues.

After 7 weeks we just got a letter from Budget saying they charged our credit card almost $500 for the expense of replacing our car. OUTRAGEOUS! When we were handed over the keys, the tank was not even half-full, and it was agreed upon that we had to return the car with an equal amount of gasoline in the tank. This turned out to be a bit tricky, though, because it is not easy to refuel a car up to a certain amount, if you cannot measure the gasoline level in the tank, because the engine is turned off. So, we had to refuel more gas than necessary. The excess gas was not refunded. Then, we had a flat tire which I changed. They charged us about US$ 6 for the repair of that tire, although it had been me who had minimized the damage by changing the tire and although we had taken out all the insurances they offer. So, next time we rent a car we will probably choose another company who hopefully does without such unfair and mood worsening practices.

On January 4th 2015, I noticed that my recently purchased clothing had stains and holes, which looked like burn marks, and were damp with an unknown substance. Upon inspection, I notice a large stain in the carpet of the trunk of the rental car, with smell similar to the one in the damaged clothing. Also, several other items of clothing I had put in the trunk of the car were totally destroyed, along with one of my suitcases (A Victorinox Suitcase).

On January 5th 2015, I proceed to the nearest Budget Rent-a-Car Agency to my location, in 600 Terminal Drive, Suite 401, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315, to file the Incident Report, where I was attended by the Operations Manager **. Mr. ** took the report, along with photographic evidence, and promptly sent a copy by fax to the Atlanta Agency. Mr. ** replaced the vehicle, but regarding the claim, I was told the issue would have to be handled by the Atlanta Agency since they were a different franchise. On January 6th 2015, the rental car was returned to the Budget Rent-a-Car Agency in Miami International Airport (MIA) upon authorization from the Atlanta Agency to receive the replaced vehicle. On this day, I notice lesions in parts of my body that were in contact with the stained fabric and substance (torso, back and hands).

After filing a formal claim, sending letters, photos, etc, and seeking proper compensation for the damages suffered, we were told by the Claims Department that the case was closed, with no further explanation. I am worried that the company has not taken our claim seriously since we are out of the country and don't have legal representation in the US, but the company cannot discriminate against us because of this, and is violating our customer rights. We would like to find another way to voice our complaint, and if that doesn't work either, at least warn potential customers that Budget will not compensate for damages that were clearly caused by their neglect and irresponsibility.

Went on PRICELINE.COM (last night) typed the dates and times for pickup and drop off, they (Priceline) do the searching and find the best deal, Budget was it. Prepaid with my cc. $111.64 for 2 1/2 days! Went to Jax Airport this morning with my reservation I printed out from my email. Was 20 mins late. "No problem," they said. Handed him my license and cc I used to reserve the car. E-signed for my ins (did not have to show proof) handed me my keys and said enjoy. Literally that simple!

The longest part of the process was me waiting in the wrong line! Lol. Took less than 5 mins. The key is to use a 3rd party like Hotwire or Kayak or Priceline. Budget quoted me $246.00 for same car until I went to Priceline. I would recommend them to anyone. Great fast service, not pushy or moody. The car is a 2014 Dodge Avenger 26,000 miles on it. It's a little dirty on the inside (stains and some scratches) but who cares, it's a rental! Give them a shot you will be pleased! Thanks.

I read the agreement when I got home and realized I didn't need to... called airport budget 3 times with no answer. Customer service closed... will speak to these thieves in the am when I return.

I rented a car for couple weeks in Prague Budget.cz in November 2014. When I was returning a car they registered two small scratches that seemed to be new one: 1 x 1 mm barely noticeable scratch on the windshield, probably from the small stone, this kind of scratch just can’t cause any major repair like the windshield replacement. It’s usually fixed, if fixed at all, by filling a scratch with a filler. Such repair should not exceed $30-50. 2 x 8 mm scratch on the left side at the very bottom under driver’s door, almost on the edge to the bottom of the car so barely noticeable as well. Repainting such spot can’t cost more than $30-50 either. I have to notice that prices above are for USA. In Czech Republic they’re usually 2x lower. I also need to notice that car initially had more noticeable registered scratches when I rented it.

Now imagine my surprise when in four weeks upon returning a car, when I already was back to USA, I found that Budget.cz charged me $1000 (additional to the rental cost). When I called them they confirmed that was the cost of the repair of those two scratches. Complete cost as they explained by the phone. Not only no one had contacted me before this charge (they had my phone and email), but one would expect to pay only deductible when car is insured, right? And car was of course insured, and my payment included insurance portion as well. I asked them to send me electronic copies of the documents confirming such expensive repair. It took few days to get one letter issued on their corporate bank of Budget.cz saying that repair had a cost of 800 EUR. No paper from body shop, no detailing on the work done, and parts used. Nothing.

Well, I sent them another letter asking for all those details. It took them 5 (!) weeks to reply again. Reply occurred after I complained multiple times to the BudgetCustomerService.com. BudgetCustomerService.com initially opened a file, but then closed it as only they learned that I have a communication with Budget.cz. Anyway, in their last reply Budget.cz acknowledged that the initial charge of $1000 was too high. They also sent an electronic copy of the paper from some body shop in Prague claiming that they replaced a windshield (~450) and repaired a scratch (~$250). So Budget.cz has returned the rest $300 to my credit card.

Very nice: No explanation how the initial cost happened to be too high. No explanation why they charge me the full amount of the repair instead of the deductible. No explanation why they decided to change the windshield (I doubt they did change) instead of using a sealer. No explanation how repainting of a minor scratch (I doubt they did) could cost $250; for such cost they could of repaint half a car at least in Czech Republic. Note that I received ZERO help from the BudgetService.com worldwide either. Now both BudgetCustomerService.com and Bufget.cz do simply ignore my further questions - no reply. Of course I disputed the charge with Visa. I should of be doing that from the very beginning. I regret that I wasted a lot of time communicating to them. Just thought that in European country I should be able to resolve such an obvious fraud attempt with their customer support. I’ve been so naive.

I was charged four separate temporary hold totaling over $1100. Then they charged the actual fees + $250 cleaning fees because they thought that they smelled cigarette smoke in the vehicle. They never informed me that the "hold" charges were separate from the actual fees. They had no way to prove that there was a smoke smell, and all supervisors stood firmly by the employee that accused me of smoking in the car.

I was also charged a hour late fee because they were helping a customer when I arrived to drop of the car. They said that the car would have been received when I drove it into the lot. In fact, it wasn't received until I handed the keys to the man at the desk. He couldn't even take the keys until he was done helping the person at the counter first. After all this, I needed a vehicle for one more week and the man gave me the crappiest one on the lot. I believe this was intentional because he was being spiteful. The people at the location were rude, the people at the 800 number were rude. Anyone who had anything to do with Budget was rude and unhelpful. I will never rent from them again. I recommend that if you are considering renting from them, that you find any other company.

I made a reservation (Reservation number **) and was given a total charge of $659.30. When I arrived in my destination I was told by the agent that I needed to purchase additional insurance of $208 and that my credit card did not cover me for any damages, etc... even though as per my credit card member agreement it does. I argued with the agent at the desk about the charge and he stated that I had to be charged it regardless of whether my credit card covers me. There was nothing I could do about it and as I had just flown 17 hours and had 6 other people with me including 4 children, there wasn't much I could do about it other than be stranded in a foreign country's airport.

So... I asked for a minivan and was given an SUV with no trunk even though I had specifically asked the agent if it was a minivan and he responded in the affirmative (he was actually an American and he spoke English perfectly which he acknowledged). I had to argue with them about that as well until I was given something I could use. Not fun when you're jet lagged like we all were. That's strike 1.

Strike 2 was when I called after returning from my trip and I called customer service to see if they could do anything to ease the pain and perhaps make me consider using Budget Car Rental again. The agent, Megan at corporate (badge number **) was rude in the extreme and told me that there is nothing that I can do since I signed a contract and they were not legally bound to do anything, etc... Clearly they don't care about returning customers and bank on the fact that there are enough people out there that they can dupe into believing their low prices are what people will actually pay.

Arriving in Israel. Last January 30, at 4:20 we arrived at Ben Gurion Intl Airport, from Poland. After reserving and prepaying a car in Budget via Rental Cars (voucher #**), we spent at least 2 hours in its office trying to pay the minimum self participation charge with a credit card. Five of them, Visa and Mastercard cards were refused, because all of them where linked to Cirrus and Maestro. For the first time while using such cards worldwide, they were refused. So we tried to cancel this rental operation. Once more, the employee told us she couldn’t do it, we should negotiate directly with Rental Cars.

Finally, 2 hours later, after calling to Mastercard in Brazil (our resident country), they disblocked one of the presented cards, no Cirrus & no Maestro. After this tiring process, I decided to contract the super CDW J insurance. So we received the keys and got to the garage to pick the car up. A Toyota Corolla that was dirty, with lots of scratches in its painture, ashtray full of cigarettes and an incomplete fuel tank. Actually, we were very, very tired. Despite this situation and the lack of employees of Budget in the garage to check the car up, we left the airport in shock with such an experience.

Leaving Israel. February 1st, we got back to airport to give the car back at Budget office. The fuel tank was exactly at the same level I received. Despite that, the employee charged its difference, and in an arrogant way told me I should photograph the fuel level when I picked it up. At this time, another very efficient employee checked the car up and told at the office that the car was scratched (the same scratches that I noticed while taking it out from garage), but fortunately they couldn't charge us, because I got the CDW insurance. I really felt that at this country no respect to tourists or costumers is useful. Angry while arriving, angry while leaving... PS- photos of some situations presented in this text where taken as proof.

I have given Budget more than a fair shake and after several rentals will never rent again. Here is a brief summary of my experience. Signed up for and paid in advance for a vehicle in Utah - arrived to find my car was not there, waited over 2 hours for a car, any car. Was told multiple times it would be "any minute", that they oversold their inventory. Meanwhile I'm watching "fast break customers" walk in and get into a car and take off. I paid for a Mustang - talked with the manager and basically begged for any car - I was told I had to have the car I paid for. Eventually a Mustang was returned and I was on my way. The manager recommended that I sign up for "fast break" and I "wont have to wait". Done. Now I'm a fast break, problem solved? Nope.

Colorado - get to the counter to find that they again gave away my car and were again out of cars. Wait only a few minutes for someone to pull around a Chevy Camaro (I had rented a SUV). My two grown kids and I load (cram) into this car, thought it interesting that the keys didn't have a budget fob, they were just keys. Halfway into our week long rental, I get an email and a recorded phone call stating the car was on SAFETY recall, for the keys falling out while driving causing the engine to stop while driving, resulting in injury or death. Come to find out that the "recall" had occurred several months before, the car had been pulled (hence no budget key fob) and was rented to me because they forgot to pull my reservation and it was the only car not rented out.

Oklahoma - pay for in advance a sedan, get there, no sedans, they give me a pickup - the only vehicle left. Arizona - call and make reservations for me, my mom as additional driver, and my daughter, explain I'm flying in the following day and leaving earlier as well. Budget assures me this is no problem. I get a confirmation showing my mom as a driver and our dates. Needless to say, I get a call from my mother stating they won't rent to her. The manager gets on the phone and is not helpful, denies and accuses me of lying that I had spoken to anyone and that there is no record of my mother as an additional driver and even if there was, she could not get the rental. I pull up my email confirmation showing her as a driver, speak with the manager further. He still denies she can pick up the vehicle.

Long Beach - make reservation online. Pick up and have vehicle with no issues until looking at the paperwork for the address to return and notice the time for return is wrong (7 hours too early). Immediately call the counter and am told I'm being charged a late fee of 10.00 plus an additional 30.00 and am chastised about being late. Get to the counter and inquiry about the "fees" told I will need to call the 800# and talk to someone there. I ask to talk to the manager. A woman appears, hand on hip, smirk on her face, and an attitude of "I could care less". I explain the error, ask for consideration and reduction of fees, and ask if I can pay with a budget bucks $25.00 money voucher (issued from the Camaro fiasco). The manager responds while head bobbing that I can't use that, because it was given as a reward for rentals and can only be used on a rental.

I tell the manager that it was not a reward voucher, it was given because Budget rented me a vehicle on a known safety recall. I ask again for consideration, she reluctantly agrees to wave only 10.00 leaving me 30.00 plus taxes and fees. I agree, thank her, and leave. 24 hours later I get the standard Budget rate your trip email - I fill it out, giving high stars for everything except the checkout process and write about my experience with the rude manager. 10 days later, I get a letter stating that, that manager put me on the "no rent list" and I am no longer allowed to rent from budget/Avis!

Seriously? I am more than happy NOT to rent from a company that rented me and my kids a vehicle that was on a SERIOUS safety recall, hassled my senior mother, lost my reservation twice, and left me waiting more than 2 hours for a vehicle that I had already paid for. Hey Budget....You are on my Do NOT Rent List!

Two or three years ago I had very pleasant, courteous and professional experience with BUDGET in Sunnyvale, CA. And the price was right too. At that time, I decided to stay with BUDGET for my future needs. Disclaimer: I do need to rent a car once, sometimes twice a year. In other words, I am not a heavy user of the rent-a-car service(s).

My today's experience: I needed a car for 5-7 days from Sunday Jan 11th 2015 onwards. Called BUDGET's 800 number to make reservation. A lady on other side was very nice, polite, friendly and fast. Her name was Aisha, Usha or something similar - Japan name. We agreed about the car (Ford Focus or similar). She gave me a quote for cca $580, including full insurance, unlimited mileage and taxes. She said that cancellation of the reservation will cost me $10. If I do not pick up a car (or something similar) I have to pay $50. I agreed and gave her credit card number.

Unfortunately, my traveling plans changed before the pickup day. I needed to cancel or change the reservation. I was willing to pay $10 fee. Called 800 number, after many automated question, I got on the phone a live person. I do not remember his name. His attitude, during the conversation was "I do not care about anything, I have to do what I am paid for." No friendliness, very annoying attitude.

On the bright side. He understood what I want do do. I wanted to change the reservation day from Sunday, Jan 11th to Wednesday Jan 14th 2015. He said, no problem, I can do it for you. I asked him if I need to pay for the change, He said no, He also said, the full price is going to be $40 less than the original quote ($580). I said, great, I like the outcome.

Today, Jan 14th 2015, I've showed up at the BUDGET office (San Jose International Airport) to pick up the car. The sales associate asked for reservation number. I gave it to him. He checked his computer and said that I need to have another reservation number, because my reservation number was for the past Sunday Jan 11th 2015. I told him, I do not have any additional or new reservation number. He said, if this is the case, than he will use the original reservation number to proceed with the process. The price is going to be $880 + $80 for GPS. Total $960. I could not believe my ears. The price went $300 UP just because of the change of the pickup date. If I would have known that, when I changed the pickup date, I would cancel the reservation and go shopping elsewhere for the better price.

Reminder: the person, who made a change over the phone four days before, told me that the price is going to be $40 less then the original quote. I told sales associate that I am going to one of the competitors to get a better deal. Another reminder: I was at San Jose International airport where are cca 10 other Rent-a-Car offices in one row. He said, that I will not find a better deal, because today was a very busy day for all of them. Most of the cars in my category were gone. I said to myself... "hmmm this is a bummer."

Then I told him that I would like to talk to his manager. He said, Ok... just wait, please, for a sec. Then I waited, 5 - 10 minutes. Nothing. I got bored and decided to talk to another car rental company (SIXT). The lady was very polite and friendly. She said, yes, we have car for rent, but not in Ford Focus price range. It is going to cost you $680 all included + GPS as a complimentary. So, I got 4 door BMW with GPS.

Went back to BUDGET front desk. The manager did not show up yet. The original sales representative was not there either. Few minutes later another gentleman came to the front desk. I thought... "wow... great." This is the manager. I approached him and started to explain my case. He listened to for a minute saying nothing. Then a lady next to him said, no, he is not a manager. He is sales associate on training. Few minutes later the original sales associate came back (no manager yet) telling me that they can not do anything to accommodate me. The price is $880.

I said to him "Ok, then please cancel my reservation." He answered, "no, I can not do this. You have to talk to the company who gave you the reservation. I told him, it was a BUDGET and you work for BUDGET." He was firm. He said, you have to call the company who gave you reservation. I wished him a nice day and left the BUDGET's desk and went to SIXT. Paid $680 to SIXT. Got a better car, paid $200 less than BUDGET and got GPS for free.

Came home, called BUDGET one more time to cancel the reservation. I explained to the gentleman the whole situation and asked for refund. He said, "ok, I can cancel the reservation. It will cost you $50." Again, I could not believe what I heard. I told him that I was in the BUDGET's office to pickup the car on time. He still did want to waive the $50 fee. Then I asked him to transfer the call to his manager. A nice person (Daryl) answered the phone. He was very polite, he listen to me, and he apologized for all troubles I had with their sales representatives. He also told me that I will get a full refund in 2-3 days. Conclusion: Stay away from BUDGET. You can spend your time better.

It has been so long since I have rented a car. I thought perhaps policy had changed especially since she did not take me out and show me the car. When I asked about doing a walk around she said no, that was not required. So when I got out to the car I noticed a crack on the passenger side front window. My friend was with me and actually pointed it out. I took a picture of it with my phone just in case because no walk around was required. I also tried to call but got only automated system, could not get a person. When my husband returned the car he mentioned this entire situation and they had him file a damage report. Nothing else was said.

Two weeks later we received a bill saying that we damaged the rental. I called and followed up with the same discussion but they said they do not show any other person with damage and that I should have documented it at the walk around. I explained again that I asked specifically and she told me no we don't do that and I gave them the name of the person I dealt with. They refuse to look at my picture or talk to my witness to the conversation and the pre-existing damage. They sent out a statement saying that I caused the damage and am responsible. I feel like the entire rental was handled unprofessionally and in a shady manner. I believe that the Riverdale, Ogden manager had overlooked this damage on a previous rental and was looking for some trusting idiot to pin it on and unfortunately that was me. It is wrong and not professional. The fact that these types of circumstances happen says a lot about the integrity of the company and that specific person.

The Rep then offered me the Fusion at an additional $15.00 a day, which I accepted. I filed a dispute with Budget the day after the car was dropped off, without a response. I filed another dispute and Budget responded to my dispute stating that a Nissan Sentra is an intermediate car (still doesn't sound like a mid-sized to me). Intermediate car is listed as "intermediate - Dodge Avenger or similar" on their website. Compact car is listed as "compact - Ford Focus or similar." I would put the Nissan Sentra in the same category as a Ford Focus.

So in a nutshell, Budget classified a Nissan Sentra as a Mid-Sized car (which was too small from me, I'm 6'3") when they have rented Ford Fusion's as intermediate cars in the past. In my opinion I had to upgrade/pay more for the exact car I had reserved. I have contacted my credit card company asking for a refund of the difference from what I reserved and had to pay, I guess it could happen.

I used my USAA membership to book a car with Budget 25 days before the scheduled pickup, which gave a discount and waived the underage fee. Everything went through successfully, and when I went to pick up the vehicle the service rep told me that I will have to pay $27 extra per day in order to rent the car because I am not 25 or older. I explained to the rep that I used my USAA membership and he immediately began to belittle me, asking me if I ever served the military and I need to prove to him that I am in the military or have an valid ID. The rep kept trying to tell me that anyone can get a USAA membership, how he can sign up for USAA on his cellphone right now, and how he needs to verify that I am in the military. Funny thing is, anyone in the US can get a USAA membership, which stands for United Services Automobile Association; you do not need to be affiliated with the military, or have family in the military in order to become a member. I did not have my USAA ID with me, but I had all of the membership info, I had a printout of my membership info, yet he refused to help me at all. I called Hertz customer service, who told me that this is an error in the rep's part, and told me to ask the rep to call Hertz to get this resolved.

I went back into the store, and politely asked the rep to call customer service to verify my information and he blatantly refused. I then called USAA, who called Hertz customer service while I was on the line and verified that I am a active member of USAA, provided my information and the Hertz rep told me this will get resolved, and put me on hold. After waiting 15 minutes on hold, another representative picked up the phone and said the words "Can I help you?". This new representative had no idea why I was calling and I was essentially back to square one. I tried to briefly explain to her what was going on, and she said she cannot force the representative to do anything. Figuring that this wasn't going anywhere, I asked for a refund, and she said she will refund the costs of the rental, and will not charge me the $50 fee. 3 days later I check my credit card account and as luck would have it, I was refunded the amount, but they charged a $50 fee and here I am, dialing Hertz again....

I have rented from Budget four times in the past few years and there seems to be a pattern. The charge is never the inexpensive quote that I have gotten on the Internet when I reserve the car. This last time it became obvious that I have been scammed each time. I rented a car at the San Diego Airport for December 18-24 and was quoted $239.79 on the Internet. I declined all the product and services options and the total came out to be $150.00 more than the original quote. I didn't catch this until I got to the hotel and called Budget and was told I had to go back into the office to get this changed--they couldn't change it over the phone.

The manager immediately changed it to the original quote as if they do this all the time. (I unfortunately did not copy the original receipt). I spent a half-day of my vacation correcting this. I've been overcharged in Tampa, FL (agent insisted a loss damage fee was mandatory in Tampa), San Juan, Puerto Rico and Aruba, where there has been a mysterious airport fee added onto the bill. It finally all added up that this is a company policy to scam their customers. I let it go three times believing Budget, but the pattern has become clear and I will never rent from them again and will tell everyone I know not to rent from Budget.

I had booked hotel and car rental for my 2-day Tucson trip through Orbitz and I opted for the economy car. At the Phoenix airport, the person behind the counter told me good news, saying that since I had booked through Orbitz, I was entitled for a free upgrade and was asked to choose from either a Toyota Camry or a Ford Fusion. I thought great, I'd take the Camry. We pretty much went through the agreement in a breeze but of course, I was assured that the $41 per day was included with the upgrade.

After my trip, I noticed that I was charged again by Budget when the trip was already paid through Orbitz. I called the Budget's customer service, they told me I signed the agreement, and that they do not offer free upgrades through Orbitz, and are willing to give me a $40 refund for the confusion. Regardless, anyone who rents car knows that $41 per day is still way too much for an upgrade from economy size to a standard size car, which typically is about $15. I definitely feel cheated, and I do not feel that they have done much to help me to resolve the case. Beware of any free upgrades from Budget, because first of all, they are not free, and second, they overcharge you for the upgrade if you choose to accept.

We pre-booked a car using Atlaschoice (Budget) at Heathrow airport for my wife and I for a 17 day trip to the UK recently. The cost was roughly a little over 10 GBP per day so we were reasonably happy with our deal. When we arrived after nearly 2 days travel and went to the car hire place at Heathrow. The seemingly friendly lady at the counter looked at us, sucked some air between her teeth, and suggested that we should upgrade. We asked "How much would that be?" To which she replied with a smile, "I'll have a look". Little did realize that we had fallen into her trap. We were now like a mesmerized lamb waiting for the wolf to attack.

"Oh, you're in luck!" she says. "We have a BMW available that I can give you for around 11 GBP extra a day." My wife replied that that "sounded good" so we signed up, not really paying too much attention to the details (and frankly not capable of doing any form of mental arithmetic after 48 hours of sleep deprivation).
You can imagine our surprise when we rocked up 17 days later with the car at the return and the seedy looking bloke there gives us a bill for over 520 GBP!!!

By this stage I was capable of performing some mental arithmetic and calculated that 17 x 11 was 187 GBP extra. Add in another 40 GBP (guesstimate of what it would be) for some diesel and round that off to 230 GBP.......So we were ripped off nearly 300 GPB!!! My tip - use the trains and taxis and avoid these rip off merchants.

Rented a car during Christmas vacation from Palo Alto, CA location. Thanks to Budget for screwing my vacation! The car they gave started leaking oil on the third day of rental. Called road side assistance and they asked me NOT to drive with the car with leaking oil and told they will send a replacement car to my location. Hence I pulled over to a nearby parking lot and was waiting for 6 hours in the cold. Finally the tow truck came and gave the replacement car and picked the other one.

The replacement car did not have full tank gas but a little less. The power outlet for cell phone charger/GPS did not work. Mentioned both the issues to the tow truck person and he said he is third party provider and can't help. I had no other go but to take the replacement car and drive without GPS. Between this numerous time I called road side assistance to know where they were and why there was a delay even though they told I would receive the car within an hour. Then they said since it was NOT my fault and they said they will waive ONE day rental fee.

Finally after shivering on the cold for 6 hours I was on the road driving back home in the night (Usually won't drive in the night but had no other option). I thought the hassle was over but there was bigger one waiting for me when I went to this location to return the car. I booked through Costco and got the rental for $165 (including tax) for 4 days (Plus $31 per day for full coverage insurance so the total rental cost should have been $165 + $124 = $290 at the max even without waiving the one day rental as agreed by road side assistance). But the bill generated was for $390. Yes you read it right, I was charged $390.

The charge includes $126 as fuel service fee - It seems the charge was for the fuel in the broken car because the car did not have full tank of gas. I did fill the gas about 40 miles before the car broke and also I do not understand how on earth I can fill gas for a car that broke in the middle of nowhere and when the road side assistance asked NOT to drive the car longer.

Then when I asked about the rental fee that should be waived for one day as promised by the road side assistance they reduced some amount but increased the other three days rental saying because that fee was waived Costco doesn't apply and I have to pay the normal daily rental fee. They demanded to return the car with Full gas even though I told them the replacement car I got did not have full tank gas and this was also noted to the tow truck driver while accepting the car but they did not bother to listen and asked me to pay extra or take the car and fill the gas. Then I took the car again to fill it up.

When asked about the fuel service fee, they say they can't do anything and I have to call customer service, when I called customer service, they have to call the Vegas rental location and ask them to look at the logs and told they will return the call in an hour. After waiting for 3 hours called them back only to hear the customer representative yelling at me saying I need to give time for them to research on the case. Seriously?? You guys have my money and in return you yell at your customers. NEVER again I am renting a car with Avis/Budget. GOODBYE!!

On Christmas day (12/25/2014) we were visiting family in Charlotte NC. We had to return home later that day (300 miles one way) to ensure my husband was home and ready for work on the 26th. Sadly the fuel pump went out on my car as we were leaving, leaving one option. Rent a car, and I'd be driving him home then return to Charlotte to get my car once the mechanics opened and were able to fix it. We rented the car from the 25th until that Saturday (with thoughts a fuel pump is an easy quick fix and I could just do the turn around on Saturday the 27th.

The lady at the desk (Tracey) was very kind, but alone and the line backed up quickly. I felt bad for her as the line grew but she remained very kind throughout the process. We were checked out and keys in hand by 2:15 and were on our way. The long drive ahead (plus one) was not something I was looking forward to, but I knew it was necessary. Little did I know what was looming around the corner due to my idiotic decision not to rent from my normal rental car company. We got home finally Friday morning around 2 am. Friday morning when my car was towed in, they said there was not anywhere open where they could get the parts needed for my repairs, thus it would be next week before it was ready. Mind you I've rented several cars in my life, and on average rent 8-15 times a year. So, I went to my contract, and called to extend the car for a weekly rental versus a few days. To my surprise there was no weekly rate. Only a monthly.

I called and asked for the weekly charge, as I needed to extend it. We paid for two days approximately $25/day. So I expected something around this (yes I was prepared it may be a little more, although for a week it's usually less, also I was prepared for the "We'll have to charge you for the two days + a week") What I wasn't prepared for was "Your price triples, how would you like that?" Um no thank you.

I went to the Budget website, thinking wow they must be low on cars, or something has jacked up the prices. NO not at all, same car, same location from Saturday 12/27 to Saturday 1/2/15 =$200. They want me to pay close to $400! So being the 'dumb customer' I am, I called and asked for someone to help me understand this, as I was very confused how a $15/day ($25 with taxes and fees) car changes to $45/day (NOT including fees and taxes)? Same car, same location, and availability?

Spoke to ** badge #** at corporate and he was kind but in essence told me "Nothing we can do, but you can drive there, do the paper work and we'll honor that price, don't want to drive the extra 600 miles, we'll charge you the $400, it's ok you can do which ever you'd like we're not trying to be difficult." I give you he was very kind in his mannerism but the "Take this apple for $1 or that one that is off the same tree, same condition, you just need to drive a day, plus gas, plus your well being and mental sanity and you'll get it for a quarter!" Mind you there is a Budget car rental office 10 minutes from where I am, I would not be changing cars, I would not be doing ANYTHING except paperwork. NIGHT FREAKING MARE! BEWARE OF BUDGET.

Flew into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Went to pick up a rental at Budget. The guy at the pickup desk asks if I want insurance, and I decline because I am insured through Geico with plenty of comprehensive and liability coverage. I tell him what I always say in this situation: "Thanks for the offer, but I'm covered and have looked into it and am all set with insurance." The Budget employee says that the company does not work with outside insurance companies, so if I don't take the Budget insurance, I'm completely on my own, whether or not I carry my own personal car insurance. I was traveling on business and was groggy from the flight, so I just accepted this unpleasant situation. I should add that the pickup location was basically in an underground concrete bunker, so I could not consult the Internet for help. I've never had this sort of problem before, and now I know why - that guy straight up lied to me.

When renting cars in the past, I've been coaxed in various ways, some light and some aggressive, for the insurance, but my claim to carrying personal insurance and my awareness of its applicability would always win the day. This guy at Budget took the most aggressive angle of all because he completely misrepresented the situation, using misinformation and fear tactics to score a few more hundred bucks in business. It would be one thing if I were new to this game or was ignorant of what I could and couldn't do. But I came in experienced and informed, and this employee pushed back in a really scummy and deceitful way.

So my rental, which was quoted at $326.77, came out to more than $600. For the record, I did rent a GPS as well. For all I know, there's a bonus attached to how many insurance packages an employee sells, whether by hook or by crook. I'm giving them hundreds of dollars of business for a several-days rental. Why do this? I just don't get it. Anyway, it's a terrible feeling to be lied to so openly, and I doubt I will ever give them my business again.

On the 25th of November 2014 I hired a car from Budget rent a car at Brisbane domestic Airport. I then drove to the Sunshine Coast where the car was primarily parked in underground, secure parking for four days. I returned to Brisbane on November 30 and returned the car to the Airport drop off location. The car was signed in by a Budget staff member, there was no damage and I was given a receipt for the total hiring charges of $240. On the 11th of December I noticed a pending charge of $2890 on my credit card from Budget rent a car.

I rang the Budget 1800 number and asked what this was about and they put me through to their insurance claims department. The insurance claims department told me that this was excess due to damage caused to the car in a hailstorm in Brisbane on November 27. I explained that I returned the car completely undamaged and I wasn't even in Brisbane on November 27. I informed them that this would be easy to prove as I had stayed in a hotel in Noosa (personally checking in on the 25th and out on the 29th) and with the limited number of kilometers that the car had done it couldn't possibly have traveled between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast more than once. Budget's Insurance department assured me they would look into it and get back to me by email.

On the 18th of December, despite having yet to hear back from the Budget Insurance Department, I noticed that a second charge of $2840 had gone on to my credit card from Budget rent a car on the 15th of December. I now had nearly $6000 worth of fraudulent charges on my credit card from Budget rent a car rendering my credit card all but useless to me. I rang Budget head office in Sydney on the 18th of December and left a message for someone to please get back to me. Later that day someone from Budget head office rang and explained that they would take one of the charges off my credit card by faxing the bank but the second charge would remain until the insurance company had looked into my claim. I pointed out that this was not my claim but a false charge carried out by them.

Later on the 18th of December I received an email from the Budget Insurance Dept. telling me that the charges would be reversed but it would take 5 to 7 working days. I believe this is completely fraudulent behavior by Budget rent a car to charge me not one but two lots of excess when in fact there should have been no charges given that there was no damage to the car and the car was actually checked in by a member of the Budget rent a car staff, in my presence, at the drop off location. During my first phone call to the insurance department I was informed that 700 cars had been damaged by the hailstorm - it appears Budget were just billing everybody and billing some of us twice.

Worst vehicle rental experience of my life. Each year my husband and I take a 4-5 day vacation to Miami. It is usually the weekend prior to Columbus Day. We celebrate my Birthday during that time even though my Birthday is actually October 15th. In the past we had always booked our vacation package through Expedia Travel Services which included airfare, hotel and rental car. We have always used Alamo Rent A Car in the past. This year I wanted to use my American Airline Credit Card so I booked the package through American Airline over the phone and they advised me that Budget was the least expensive with the package deal so I agreed. Shula's Hotel & Golf Club in Miami Lakes, FL is a great place to stay.

On October 10th 2014 when we flew into Miami and got to the rental area, the lines were very long but we waited. The customer service lady was the worst, I don't know if she was not properly trained but she kept asking question to the guy next to her. She ask for my ID and credit card, I then ask her why she needed my credit card that I paid for everything when I booked my package. She said in order to rent the car they needed to have a credit card on file in case of damages. So I give her my credit card, she then tried to get me to upgrade the vehicle and purchase additional insurance. When I said no, she seem annoyed. She never mentioned to me at this point that I owed Budget additional money for fees and/or taxes and it would be charged to my credit card. She give me the paperwork and told me to go downstairs to a specific space so I can retrieve the vehicle. When I got to the space, there was no vehicle there. I then went to an attendant behind a glass in the garage to let him know there was no vehicle there. He then went to check the space and obviously there was no vehicle there. He said that he would be right back.

He came back with a different vehicle than what was on the paperwork. The vehicle was wet as though someone just sprayed water on it, he did not even bother to dry the vehicle or change the vehicle information on the paperwork. I then went back to the window, he was not there, so I told the lady that the information on the paperwork as to the vehicle we were renting is completely different to the vehicle we were just given. She then changed the information. On our way to the hotel, the water started to dry on the vehicle and leave white spots on the rear view mirror and the windshield, my husband had to pull over to clean the rear view mirror and windshield. Everything went fine with the car for the next couple of days; we returned the vehicle with no damages.

On 10/24/2014 I went to my pharmacy to get a prescription and tried to use my credit card and it did not go through. Well you can imagine how embarrassing that was. We used one credit card for our vacation so we can keep track of our vacation spending and be able to pay it off in full at the end of each month but I knew that I still had about $100.00 balance left on the card. I rushed home to investigate online what went wrong with the credit card.

To my surprise there was a charge from Budget on 10/14/2014 for $59.00 which they said was for taxes and fees and another charge on 10/19/2014 for $18.80 which they said was for tolls. Well, I was never told about the taxes and fee charges when I picked up the vehicle and to my recollection we paid all of the toll fee to the attendant at the toll booth when we went through. If we did go through a toll, it had to be a toll where there was no attendant available to take our cash. We never turned on the toll gadget they have mounted on the front of the windshield. When I called to discuss this matter the lady took my email address and said she would email me the toll information which I never received. There was another charge on my account on 10/30/14 for another $4.90. I am appalled by this predatory practice. I am requesting that all of my money be refunded at this time. It is not the amount of the money but the principle under which it was taken.

In September my wife and I took a trip to Costa Rica. We rented a car with Budget. On our last day a truck driving on the wrong side of the road slammed into our rental vehicle. Our car spun around twice and we then hit two other vehicles. My wife and I were taken by ambulance to two different hospitals. Needless to say there was no car to return to Budget as it was no longer driveable. Budget charged my credit card $5600 for the car. VISA paid it. But then Budget charged my credit card a fee of $57.50 for a fuel surcharge. According to the rental agreement a fee will be assessed if the car is not returned completely full of fuel. But there was no car to put fuel in so how can Budget charge me a fee when there is no car. I contacted Budget to find out who was responsible for my medical bills here in the U.S.? I inquired about the fuel surcharge and medical bills but I have never heard from anyone. I will never rent another vehicle from Budget.

They hoped I could drive the next two days before it went completely flat. Tried three different service stations but valve stem does not accept hose. Called again this morning as tire is very low and was told to just drive it back to the airport. Told them it would ruin a $200 tire and she just said there was nothing else she could do. I have a day of work and rent left, and will be driving on rim before getting it back. What sort of service is this?

We have full coverage on our cars and also did not agree to any insurance coverage for rental. When we arrived the agent who was quite pleasant said the Charger was not available and we should not have been promised a particular type of car over the phone. He offered a Ford Mustang same price, again no additional charge, we stress that, we repeatedly asked if there were any additional charges!!!! He said no.

However somewhere along the way we were charged Loss Damage Waiver at a cost of $279. On top of rental fee, if we were made aware of this cost at the rental counter we would have absolutely declined and probably taken the least expensive car from Budget!!! Or went to another car rental company!! Called today Dec 2, 2014 and phone agent basically unapologetic said we were responsible for the hidden Loss Damage Waiver and there will be no refund even a portion given that there seems to be a lack of communication between the phone agents & counter agents.

Sadly, we feel robbed and scammed by Budget for their hidden charges and inability to clearly communicate from phone reservations to counter to customer service and will be relaying our experience to others. Consumer beware!

I rent multiple cars weekly in various cities from various companies. This Budget location decided to charge me for a broken windshield that was already broken when we received the car. When we tried to dispute, they said that we could write a letter disputing. So we wrote our letter and then received a response letter from a credit agency demanding we pay 377.58 within 10 days or our credit would essentially take a hit. Hardly seems like a fair system. We have dealt with this in a timely manner and Budget won't even deal with us, it was immediately turned over to collections. We are being bullied into paying, because if we seek justice we risk a negative mark on our credit. Well played Budget. From someone who spends thousands of dollars a year on rental cars - let me advise you to stay away these guys.

That being said, always take a picture of any damage, because like we learned - eventually someone shady will get ya! Budget Car Rental in Billings was the someone for us. :(

I didn't know this so I asked them. The rental agent told me it was required to have insurance to rent a car. When we were driving I looked at the packet and it clearly said I didn't need insurance. I found this out about 4 hours away from the place that I rented the car. They wanted me to drive ALL the way back and cancel the insurance. I wasn't going to do that for sure and apparently no other budget locations could. I wasn't going to drive out of my way to fix a problem that was all caused by them. On September 7, 2014. I rented a vehicle from Budget Car Rental located at the Ontario Airport. I was given a Chevrolet Impala but then switched out to a Black Mazda 5SPT Van. After "inspection" by a budget employee, I took the vehicle off grounds and proceeded to my destination in Las Vegas. I noticed that the tire pressure light was on. I immediately tried to contact Budget Car Rental in Ontario to notify them but no one answered the front desk phones. When I first approached the car rental, no one was there to immediately help me. Employees were in the back fooling around. As I was halfway to Las Vegas, there was a blow out in my left rear driver's side tire. I pulled over and checked my surroundings. I notified roadside assistance and explained to them my situation. They tried contacting Budget Car Rental in Ontario and had no luck either.

I spoke to two different agents explaining them my situation. I told them that I declined roadside assistance on my agreement but that I had Triple AAA and if I should use it, I did not want to get charged any fees later on when my Triple AAA could have been used. They were also aware that I denied Roadside Assistance on my agreement. They notified me that I did not need to use it. They stated that this was negligence on their part for not putting air in tires, letting me take it off the lot, for them not being able to get a hold of and that it was also a safety issue thinking that I was in the middle of the desert with nowhere to go. It wasn't safe to even change the spare myself.

A tow truck came an hour later to place the spare tire on my car. The rim wasn't damaged on the car nor was anything else but the tire. It was also a safety issue driving the car with the spare tire to the nearest Budget open in Las Vegas. I drove more miles than allowed for the spare tire but Budget wasn't concerned with that. I notified them of my safety to driving that far on a spare tire. I finally made it to Las Vegas Budget and was able to switch out the cars for a replacement.

On November 17, 2014 - Budget sent out a letter stating that I owe them $263.44 for Service and Repair expenses. I believe this situation is being handled poorly. It was negligence on Budget's service to take care of me from the beginning of the rental. This fee should be taken away. I have contacted supervisors and no action is being done to help me with this discrepancy.

The 7th business day was 11/24/2014 and I have yet to receive my money. I have talked today (11/25/2014) to 5 different people and no one can tell me what happened, only that the request will be resubmitted and it could take another 5 to 7 business days. I needed to move my stuff down to Georgia from Indianapolis, IN and instead, had to fly back home without my stuff because I had no way to transport my things. I see a reservation as a contract (as I'm sure your company does if I didn't follow the rules). Yet your company backed out of the contract without accommodating my needs. My sister was supposed to drive down with me and then fly back, and because she already bought her plane ticket when I paid for the reservation, she essentially burned her money as well since she couldn't drive down with me. When I turned in the vehicle, the Budget Rental Car Check-In Assistant checked my fuel gauge, saw that it was indeed full, entered that information into his hand-held device and proceeded to print out my receipt showing the FUEL READING: FULL.

Two days later, I noticed on my Discover Charge Statement that I had been billed an additional $101.37. When I called to ask what this charge was all about, I was told that my vehicle was returned empty and this charge was to refill the vehicle with gas. When I stated that I had my receipt FROM THEM showing that the vehicle was FULL of FUEL upon return, the customer service agent stated that their OWN RECEIPT was not sufficient enough to prove that I had returned the vehicle FULL. She went on to state that I would need my gas receipt and if the amount of the receipt was not for a full tank full of fuel (18 gals) that I would need to provide multiple receipts to prove I had purchased enough gas to fill the tank.

This whole ordeal is laughable. I have, of course, disputed the charge with Discover and they have credited back my account. I have said all of this in order that no one else be scammed by Budget Rental Car. AVOID BUDGET AT ALL COST!! ! Reference the receipt showing the Fuel Reading.

If you plan to rent a car from Budget car rental agency, you should be particularly careful with the agreement with them. There is a big risk for surprising extra costs. I redeemed a car at West Palm Beach airport with the prepaid voucher of the period 2 November to 11 November, 2014. Voucher was written for Ford Escape or equivalent (Mid size SUV). I told the clerk I only want what is included on the voucher, no extras. She said OK. Then we checked together every site from that screen on desk and I pressed the "agree" button. However somewhere there happened something. Must have been a clever scam, which, unfortunately, I only noticed when returning the car. I was charged $233 for car class upgrade. And sure enough on the receipt read "standard SUV." Such a classification I had not previously heard of and worst of the clerk is in no way specifically stated that there is happening upgrading. In addition upgraded car was the Chevrolet Captiva, which price, size, equipment etc. are fully in line with Ford Escape. In other agencies they really are in same category.

I discussed this with the Budget office manager, but the conversation was quite impossible. His only point was that I had accepted upgrade and now afterwards came in other thoughts demanding correction. I admitted I maybe fool in good faith and in addition too confident, but denied have been so silly that I wanted to consciously pay the extra $233 to get the same level of the car, which I had already paid when bought that voucher. Did not help, of course, as I was able to guess in advance.

Budget Car Hire, I will not under any circumstances use any more, except maybe once. I thought to have some fun on the next award of the contract situation. I will explain to the clerk of course, as an audible voice the reason for the procedure, hoping at the same time as large general public as possible for my performance. Each published page and line will be checked through very carefully word by word. That may take some time, but I think it will be worth it. Such a procedure I would recommend of course, all the other possible Budget visitors too. In my opinion the way Budget acts is highly unethical. For me this was already second, this kind of experience with Budget. Both times my costs about doubled to the original voucher. With other agencies I have had no troubles ever. I wonder how this kind of company still can operate on the market.

I have now had Budget at two different locations in the same week -- CLT and STL -- add fuel surcharges even though I returned the rental cars with a full tank *and* showing a credit card receipt from the gas station. On my return at CTL, I was informed that "you're good" i.e. there won't any extra charges. Two days later, I noticed a charge on my credit card corresponding to the fuel surcharge. I called to complain about this and the rep reversed it, but only after an unpleasant conversation. At STL I noticed the charge immediately after I returned the car and was handed the receipt, upon which the rep stated "oh my bad, good catch." Yeah, good catch. I'm not sure if Budget financially incentivizes the reps to add surcharges, but it's quite appalling that this seems to be their default mode of operating. It's unethical, fraudulent, and a breach of contract. I would advise you to get and keep your final rental return receipts and any gas receipts for at least 2 weeks after your rental to ensure you don't get charged falsely. My guess is that if they do this to every person, they likely get away with it at least 30% of the time. Sickening.

And she said, "we have a Ford Focus I can put you in". I said, "OK" not knowing that she was going to charge me ten dollars more a day. Her response was "I don't like putting women in these small cars because they would be unsafe. I don't mind putting men in these cars, well because...." and she did not finish the sentence. I thought to myself, what is the real difference here? This was such an odd sexist comment that I didn't even know where to go with this. I said nothing in response. She gave me the contract NOT explaining to me that she was charging me $10.00 more a day. So I signed.

On the last day of the rental, the car broke down north of Santa Fe-an hour and a half north of Albuquerque.. After three hours, they rescued me with another vehicle. In this circumstance, the employees were as efficient as they could be, so I give them credit. My complaint is that 1) the employee at the front desk was ridiculously sexist; and 2) they overcharged me $80+ dollars for the week without telling me.

When I called the Albuquerque office for clarification, they just said, "well you signed the contract, so we won't help you. We aren't saying that you are lying about her not telling me they were going to charge me $10..0 more a day, but...". I seriously could not believe what they said. So I unknowingly paid $10.00 more a day for a car that broke down. I will never ever rent from Budget again. What they don't realize is that I teach Recreation and Tourism Management at a university and this will always be used as an example of poor customer service to thousands of students or potential future car rental customers. Rented a car from Budget in Manzanillo through Expedia. Paid $164.38 to Expedia. Upon arriving at Manzanillo airport and going to Budget counter to get the paperwork processed I was told even though I have car insurance from using my credit card they don't take them and I have to purchase insurance from them or no car. So I bought the insurance. When we returned the car 1 week later and they filled in the paperwork, they, like Expedia, charged us for the car. They said we can never collect off travel companies. They then added a 10% airport fee along with a 16% fee for who knows what for, for a total of 3705 pesos or $317.49 Canadian which I just got my Visa bill for. So you add that with what I paid Expedia and the car cost 481.87C for the week. I emailed Budget which was a waste of time as they are giving me back a whopping $23.06US as they said I overpaid. I will never rent a car from Budget again. Total ripoff.

I rented a car from Budget a few weeks ago in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The charges ended up being twice the amount I expected. With taxes, I estimated around $110 for 4 days. The island has tolls and they told me to go through Auto Express and that the charges would be added to the bill. I only went through a few. What they don't tell you is that you have to pay an additional $15.00 for the convenience. If I would have known that, I could of paid for the tolls myself, if that was even an option.

I was the only driver except for the last day. My friend was added a driver the night before just so he can return the car to the airport and they charged a fee for all four days! So I ended up paying $40 for him just to return it! They also charge over $9 a gallon if it's not full. The current gas prices in Puerto Rico are around $3.28, or around $.82 per liter. My friend filled up the car at a gas station near the airport and they said it was missing more than 1/8 of a gallon which they round up to 2 gallons. So there went an extra $18.

I guess me being the dumb American, I should have asked more questions. But, do you really think of things like toll convenience fees and outrageous gas fees? Of course not, that's how they get you! This is the second time I ever rented from Budget and both time I've been charged more than twice the amount. The first time was in Ireland and I didn't even bother with it because it probably would of cost me that much in international phone charges just to fight it. I don't rent cars often so I'm not sure if this is the case for all car rental places but if you are renting a car in the future, please keep these extra charges in mind and ask lots of questions! It might seem cheap at first but you get surprised in the end!

After reserving a car in advance and receiving a confirmation number, the woman at Budget/Avis counter at Hilton Head SC airport informed me that "we don't have any cars but one usually comes in sometime soon". "You don't have any cars?" I asked. "That's right" she replied. I was then told to wait. While waiting I witnessed her assigning cars to other customers. When I finally did get a car (45 minute wait) and went to it, there were two other cars in the lot. Since the airport is very small and she is the only person working for them it's pretty clear that she lied. The drop off was not any better. Trying to return the car early and avoid an extra day's charges, the attendant in Caldwell NJ (Jessica) said "I have 5 people in front of me and I'll call you right back". 15 minutes later when I presented to the store it was closed. And of course she never called back. Now I am being charged for an "extra day". Never use Budget or Avis. I never will again. Had a good experience w/ Hertz and several good ones w/ Alamo.

We arrived in San Fran on 5 Oct 2014 to collect a hire car from Budget San Fran Airport. I booked a Ford Edge car. On arrival I was told that this car was not available. However, they could upgrade me to a Ford Explorer which was good although this car is too large and I would not feel comfortable driving due to the size that's why I requested the Ford Edge which I had on my previous visit to USA. I was told this vehicle was not available and I could have a similar car, a Mazda. I asked for the specs to be printed so I could compare the like for like as this car was not on the car list. The sales assistant was not helpful and said that it was not possible to get these details.

Whilst discussing the options another customer approached the counter to another member of staff on the next desk. They had booked a car in the lower group. The first thing that the member of staff asked was "DO YOU WANT TO UP GRADE TO A FORD EDGE FOR $?" This is the car that we had requested. I stepped in and said that this is the car that we had paid for and within 5 minutes the car was now available. I was not happy and said that "I wanted this car. I was here first and this was the car I had requested." I was told that I could not have his car and the Mazda was the only car available. I asked to speak to a manager. The assistant went away, came back to his computer and suddenly managed to get us a FORD EDGE too. So in 10 minutes two FORD EDGE CARS had been returned cleaned and available for hire.

I travel to America on a regular basis and I would never book a car via BUDGET again. YOU CON people into upgrading or offering a similar car that is not a like for like or you cannot prove it's a like for like. I know we all have sales targets but YOU SHOULD NOT DOWNGRADE if a customer is not willing to upgrade. The morale is pay for a low car then Upgrade with BUDGET. This was my first and last time I would ever go or recommend this car hire company. You may be cheaper but you don't get the car requested without a struggle or luck!! I would like a response with your views. I will make a note on Trip Advisor to make other customers aware.

Most people do not know that when you rent a car from BUDGET they run a credit check on you when they swipe your credit card at the desk. This inquiry hits your credit report and lowers your score. DO NOT RENT FROM BUDGET. Also, their customer service representatives are rude and discourteous. All they will do is recite their policies to you. They have no desire to help anyone.

Last weekend I had my worst car rental experience ever - and it's of over 50 I had in total. It was with Budget UK at St. Pancras station. So I advise anyone to avoid this company or at least this rental location. Key problems I've encountered: It seems that I've been offered a car 1 category below what I'd booked and paid for. This was explained by an internal software issue, but I don't buy into that. The car was not inspected upon return. There was a damage claim done retrospectively, without me being present. Immediately afterwards, my credit card was charged with £300+ without any investigation being done. Customer service is bad. For 4 days I did not have any response to my e-mail. Communication by phone is as frustrating as representatives deliver contradicting information.

Budget Car Rental Springfield MO - I rented car through Priceline for trip to Branson Mo. to celebrate my mother's 90th Birthday. My Mom and Sister and I were traveling together. Our flight was a little early and I ask if it would be a problem getting the car prior to 12noon. I was advised not a problem, Bradley, rental agent, read "script" to me, I did initial. I was never advised there was a 29 minute grace period, and if we waited an additional 13 min. there would be no additional cost. My mother was in a wheelchair and at the counter with me. If I realized I would be paying $100 more, I would have certainly waited the additional 13 minutes to be within the "grace period".

On returning the car, when I realized I was charged the additional $100 and why I had not been advised, I was told by Bradley, it is none of his business why I wanted the car early 12:00 had been time on contract. I advised when I returned car, (full of gas) this was inexcusable customer service to not educate the customer. To give superior and outstanding customer service, he should be anticipating and trouble shooting any problem that may arise, he just pulled the script and continued to question "Are these your initials?”

I will never rent a car from Budget again. I am not a business woman that rents cars and knows all the savvy questions to ask. I am a 64 year old woman traveling with my 60 year old sister and our 90 year old Mother. I feel like their business practices are deceptive and dishonest. I ask for my $100 to be credited to my Visa card. They were adamant they would not do that. I talked to my Credit Card company today and call was made on my behalf, to request refund of $100. Jessie, from Discover was advised they had remembered my rental and will not refund and credit $100. They advised, since I got car at 11:18 am instead of 12:00 pm, my return time was to be 11:18 am on October 3 day of return. I returned at 12:00, time on contract and that is why I was charged the extra $100 because car was "late".

At no time was that ever conveyed to me during conversation at return. It was only I had picked up early and it was none of their business to ask why or to inform me, waiting additional 13 minutes would put me within the "grace period" for car rental, with no additional charge being incurred. I feel like I have been robbed of $100. Their business practices are deceptive, unethical, underhanded, dishonest, and no regard for their customer or rendering any type of human kindness, or being receptive to even listening to their customers.

They will not respond to my emails & each time I phone it usually lasts 30-40 minutes to be told I agreed to everything. I requested them to show me this agreement but they will not provide it. I traveled to UK to get treatment for my 1 year old child which has left me under huge financial strain. Reserved and prepaid for a premium vehicle to be picked up at Budget location in Portland Oregon. Arrived half hour early, and was informed by the agent on duty that she had no vehicles at the location, but she would have one delivered from the airport location. We waited and about an hour later the agent informed us there would be no vehicles available because the airport site informed her that they would not send a premium car to the downtown location, because they are able to rent the vehicle at a higher price at the airport. Now she claimed she had remembered she did have one car available at the location, not the premium car I had reserved but at least a vehicle. We also ordered a GPS and she had one left. OK we needed to get on our way so we acquiesced took the car and headed for our destination.

We discovered the GPS didn't work and a short time later discovered the key fob didn't work and the car would not lock manually. Called Budget from the road and the agent directed us to another Budget location in Olympia Washington. Arrived and the agent examined the GPS and the key fob and locking mechanism. He agreed it didn't work. Offered us another car but only had one available - a Kia SUV - OK again we took it and continued our journey.

Everything was fine the car worked (even though I still didn't get the premium vehicle I had ordered and paid for) and soon it was time to return the vehicle to the Portland airport Budget location. As I arrived it began to rain which turned into a downpour. Unfamiliar with the area and facing blinding weather conditions I decided to return the vehicle without topping off the tank. After checking the car in and getting my receipt there was a charge for 1/8 of a tank which amounted to $91.04. A little excessive I thought. The agent who checked in the vehicle thought so as well. We were charged with additional gas charge due to (at their direction) returning a defective vehicle. The agent at the airport was unable to credit the fuel charges which she said she would do. She said she would contact us when she was able to correct the invoice.

Waited a few days, but heard nothing. Called Budget and got their "customer service" team. I was connected with an agent that was not exactly customer service oriented. I got the distinct impression that to her, no matter what or how I explained the situation she was certain that I was wrong and clearly not bright enough to understand Budget policies. I tried hard to convince her that $91.00 was a bit high for a gallon or two of fuel, but to no avail. She also insisted that since I returned the original defective vehicle that I should have fueled that vehicle as well. An interesting policy for certain.

I requested to speak with a supervisor, thinking perhaps I might get a more sympathetic ear. She refused my request, but did say she would forward my phone number and that I might get a call in two or three days. She also explained that since I waited 4 days to call I had no right to a refund or even an explanation. IT isn't so much the money, it is a small amount, but why in the world would a company set into place policies designed to punish decent customers, just for being decent customers?

I made reservations a month in advance for an economy car. I didn't need anything fancy, just a vehicle to take me from Montreal airport to my mother's house in Victoriaville and to do errands for mom during my 10 day stay. When I landed, on time, went to pick up the care right away got in line with the rest of the people and waited. It took forever, because they didn't have the cars that people had reserved. There was a guy next to me who needed a large vehicle. They were telling him that they only had economy cars. When I got to the clerk he told me that he didn't have the car I had reserved, BUT he would let me have a choice between a van and an suv for the same amount. There would be no extra charge. Of course I agreed. (Was thinking why don't they offer the guy next to me the van?)

Then I look at my bill and find that they charged me the full amount of the upgrade. When I called, they said you signed on the upgrade.... Well yes, I did... I signed while the guy was telling me there would be no extra charges. This is clearly first of all a breach of contract, since they didn't have the car I had reserve. Then it's a bait and switch since they offered me another vehicle that supposedly wasn't going to cost me extra but is now costing me an extra $400. I do believe that is illegal in the US...and I'm surprised someone hasn't done something about this. The staff I spoke to at customer service was some of the rudest and abusive people I have spoke to in a long time.

I just don't understand how a business like that can stay in business.. I can assure you if they had told me that the upgrade was going to cost me, I would have politely said, "Gee, thanks but let me go look at the other rentals around here and maybe called triple A". I came home on the 7th and my husband came home from a business trip yesterday and had a bad experience with them too. Over a scuff on the bumper. They made a huge fuss over it even though the company pays for all the insurance. I can assure you they just lost a huge contract and I will never use them again.

At the end I pay money because I have wasted more money (time) talking to them on multiple occasions. They are nice upfront but later you have to pay. Good Luck with Budget. I originally had a reservation at Dollar Rental Car at Indianapolis for 1:30AM Friday September 26 2014. I was traveling to my hometown 2 and hours away to finish cleaning out my mother's apartment (she passed away in August of this year). When I arrived to get the car, they were closed, even though they were supposed to be open until 2AM.

I then went to the Avis/Budget counter to obtain a vehicle and was quoted a rate of $216. Dollar customer service had indicated that they would reimburse me for the difference in rental costs, so I went ahead and got a car from Budget because I didn't have a choice; I was exhausted and just needed to secure transportation.

The agent behind the Budget counter indicated that he would be giving me a AAA discount and I said that was fine as I was a member of AAA. When we went over the rental agreement I noticed a Loss Damage Waiver charge and I indicated that I did not need any insurance or other coverages and didn't want to pay for any. He indicated that it was included in the discounted rate and gave me the impression it was courtesy of AAA and not to worry about it.

I went ahead and took the car because I had been given the impression that the Loss Damage Waiver was being provided as a courtesy of AAA and I would not be charged for it, but that was not the case and now I will not be able to be reimbursed the difference because my rate with Dollar did not include any coverages.

Once I returned to California and attempted to have Dollar reimburse me, I realized what had happened. I called the Indianapolis AVIS/Budget location on Monday September 29th 2014 and asked to have the charges removed, but the manager insisted that I had agreed to the Loss Damage Waiver. I feel like Budget misrepresented the cost of the rental to me, did not ask me if I wanted to actually buy coverages/waivers and took advantage of the situation and of me since I was stuck at the airport after 2am.

I have since contacted their socialinfo@budgetgroup.com account after being instructed to after going to Twitter to complain. Basically they are blaming the victim, telling me that I signed the contract and agreed to the charges and that they were not responsible for the agents misrepresenting the situation to me and taking advantage of the situation. I see here and on the Yelp reviews for this specific location that I am not alone in being subjected to this company's deceptive business practices, especially at the Indianapolis Airport. Class Action, anyone???

I was surprise when I look at my Credit Card and noticed I was charged an additional $82.33 for GAS CHARGES and something called a CUSTOMER FACILITATION fee for an Additional $36.00(?).

I also notice they claim that I have used the car for 6800 miles which if I calculate that is an average of 1133 miles per DAY! That is like a trip across the country (I actually barely drove 50 miles per day while in Boston). So how they came up with that mileage is not only wrong but their number posted in the bill are also wrong and do not match the numbers I wrote down on the return slip. I asked my Credit card company to investigate and to dispute these charges w/o my authorization and I will get to the bottom of this mess!

Turns out this contract had some other optional costs in it (rather obscure under the waivers but without the same box to accept or decline) that was never pointed out, I didn't even realize I had, didn't use, and that cost another $6.99/day (for a month!) and that they adamantly wouldn't even partially refund because they said I'd received the service. I prepaid for a reason!! They took advantage of the fact that I was in an emergency and rushed so they could sneak in upgrades I never wanted, requested or agreed to. I booked the rental the NIGHT before, why would I change less than 24 hours later and upgrade on something already prepaid? They refuse to not charge me the extra $87 for the upgrade I never requested. When I asked to talk to supervisor they said no due to "high volume of calls", likely all the people they ripped off. AVOID Budget Rent A Car and Priceline!! If there is zero star above, that's what I would have chosen instead of one star. This was the first time I used Budget but also the last time and it was still one time too much. I would tell everyone not to use this company. Reasons: Did not get the car I reserved. Talked into getting a larger car. Initially, I reserved an economy car on Aug 23, 2014 for 2 days. At their SFO airport counter, I told the staff I would need it for 4 days instead of only 2 days (before the deal was concluded and paid, NOT after!) And I wanted to make sure there would be no penalty. The staff assured me that there would not be any penalty except the additional rental for 2 more days. After I returned the car 78 hours later, my credit card was charged not just for 4 days but also a late charge of $20, a transportation fee of $20 (what is this??) and miscellaneous expenses. The final bill was more than double than what was shown on Priceline's website where I reserved my booking.

I contacted Priceline for assistance and got an auto-reply saying that they needed 10 business days to check with Budget to reply. I waited for 10 business days, but nothing happened. So, I wrote to Priceline again and they sent me another email telling me to contact Budget at 650 877 0988 direct. I had called Budget at the no. given by Priceline more than 10 times during their said office hours of 07:30 - 19:30 San Francisco time over 3 business days, trying all the different options by pressing different numbers for billing, airport manager, etc but nobody of Budget Rental would ever answer. The auto-recording just kept repeating the same info (our contact hours are blablabla...or you can reach us at budget.com 24 hours a day, 7 days a week...). I have also tried their contact us links of their website (as their recording machine advised) many times but none of their 'contact us' links works. As I'm writing this email, I just tried the "contact us" links on their website again, there was still no response and I'm not surprised anymore.

While I've spent hours to follow up on this complaint over the last 2-3 weeks, two days ago Budget Rent-A-Car further charged my credit card another US$22.80 for passing by Golden Gate Bridge once (one-way only) on Aug 25. The pay-by-plate toll should only be US$7 but this is how Budget Rent-A-Car would suck its customer's blood without any advanced notice! As advised by my bank, I had no choice but terminated my credit card because I had then seen countless rip-off cases by Budget Rent-A-Car for even much larger amounts online. The complaint with my bank is still ongoing, it is a lot of hassle but it must carry on.

As of today, I have spent many hours, making countless long distance calls (I am based in Asia now) to follow up on this issue but I cannot contact with anyone of Budget. Lesson well learned. That money lost does not bother me but I am not going to give in mainly for the benefits of other potential customers as dirty business practices like those must not be indulged! Good luck everyone!
