First time renting with this company and certainly a last. Giving 1 star because anything less is not permitted. Was told by Donovan at the airport rental site that we would be receiving a $100.00 deposit back after we return our car and long story short after countless hours of long phone calls and getting a different story each time by every rude customer service agent, especially the last supervisor I just spoke with. They're not giving us back our holding fee. Was basically told it was my fault, and there is no documentation of this fee or the previous phone calls I made, like that is my fault, I didn't know it was my job/responsibility to make notes in your computers for you guys..

I certainly would not be going these lengths had my husband and myself not been lied to about this return of our holding fee/deposit. We were completely misinformed, misled, and scammed into this overall total of our rental car. I will never ever again, nor will anyone I associate with, ever being doing business with this company again. So beyond disappointed.

I have Fastbreak. I made my reservation about July 11, 2019 for a mid size SUV to be picked up at the Philadelphia Int'l Airport. They didn't have a car ready for me. They finally found one; a GMC Terrain. So I asked could there be any compensation for my time? I was offered a tank of gas. I just didn't think that was good enough. So I called customer service; because what's the sense in having Fastbreak if the reservation isn't honored. I was offered $40.00 off my next rental. That pacified me some. So from Philadelphia my family and I were driving to Michigan. We had to stop 5 times to put air in the front passenger tire. But we couldn't tell what tire to fill at first because the diagram in the vehicle showed that it was the rear tire. So apparently the tires were rotated and not calibrated.

When I got to Flint, Michigan I had to go to the airport Budget and trade for another vehicle the following day. What an inconvenience. For the money it just wasn't worth the trouble. Also even though the manager, Shedrick, at the Philadelphia Int'l Airport Budget offered to fill the tank he seemed unconcerned and nonchalant about my dilemma. I wonder if Larry D. De Shon President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer knows about the practices of some your rental lots? I'm thoroughly disappointed.

I did fill out the survey that was emailed to me. I received a e-mail from Shedrick, the manager in Philadelphia apologizing saying that had I not prepaid he may have been able to reduce the payment. I don't see why prepay should make a difference. I also think that maybe corporate should go out more often to make sure people are getting their rentals as scheduled. I just don't understand how you make a reservation and it's not available.... I just don't understand.

We rented a car from Priceline to be picked up in Birmingham, Alabama and had a confirmation number. When we got to Budget we were told even though we had a confirmation number they had no cars available. We had to run around looking for another car rental agency to rent us a car. The person at the desk did not apologize or anything. He just said, "We don't have any rental cars available." There were a lot of rental cars from Budget in the parking lot at the time.

My partner first had an issue with the insurance at the time of rental, we were given a car with a leaking tire to travel from Canada to Atlanta. We then spent almost 2 hrs on the phone with customer service employees who just keep rerouting the calls to main selection menu. We were finally directed to swap the vehicle at a specific location only to show up and be told that location can't swap the vehicle. We then had to drive another 40 min to a separate store. They swapped the vehicle but this one needs an oil change so we can't use it to get home. After another 3 hrs on the phone with over 6 different representatives all telling us different things they told us to go swap the vehicle again. All their stores are closed now... and they are trying to charge us for the vehicle swaps. The worst service I have ever experienced, 2 vehicles that were not maintained and we still don't have a third vehicle to get home.

I have rented Budget the past couple years for my annual trip after beginning to have less customer friendly experiences with other companies. Today, I was delayed on a flight from Chicago to Seattle due to storms. Due to being a Sunday, the offsite location where I had rented from closed early. A nice guy named Daniel informed me all other offsite locations were booked. When I looked online the SeaTac airport had outrageous fees and I would have probably shopped at another company offsite. Instead your representative Daniel was able to secure a SeaTac pickup for nearly the same price and it was for a full size up from an intermediate. Because of this experience, I will share my story and will look to Budget first, the next time I travel.

I leased a two door Volkswagen From Budget Rental. The car maintenance was not up to date. The engine begin to overheat and the car needed oil. I waited 6 hours for a replacement car and they never replaced the car. I will just go to Enterprise next time. It’s called Budget rental for a reason obviously. They are liars and don’t keep up the maintenance on their vehicles.

Would you pay $614 for a single flat tire?? Budget Rental cars feels that is OK, and put that charge on my credit card almost 2 months after my flat. The letter arrived 6 days before the charge. They say they have NO responsibility, but I do NOT agree. I have interacted with them on the phone several times, and they will not budge...

    My arguments:
--Budget CHOSE a tow company 50 minutes away in a SMALLER town than the URBAN city I was in. That tow company chose to drive that route FOUR TIMES and charge me for all 4 times. REALLY? I do not even have the tow company's name to go after them too...
--There is no place on the rental agreement that says I declined tow service, although 4 other services are either accepted/declined...yet somehow they are sure I declined.
--No one on the phone to Budget mentioned I was responsible for the towing... and that they could charge me over $600. SERIOUSLY who charges $614 to fix a flat??!! And WHY won't Budget admit this is excessive??

--Plus, It took 4 hours and I was late to the airport. And I wasn't even on vacation, so I can "compensate with the wonderful memories". UGH.

NEVER AGAIN will I rent from Budget and I am fighting this with the VT District Attorney's office!!! This is completely wrong!!!

Sweet deal until I turned in the car and discovered I was paying $15 per day for the upgrade. Salesperson said she did not say that it was a one time charge. I could not pursue the matter further due to having to catch an international flight. This is the last time I will ever use Budget Rent-A-Car. Beware of this company.

Rented a van for vacation April 17, 2019 and paid in full at that time. Confirmation was received. Two days before our vacation we received another confirmation on June 27, 2019. When we arrived to pick up the vehicle it was not available. They sent us to another location 15 minutes away and they too did not have a van available. Went back to the original Budget where we originally said we would pick the van up and confirmed by Budget. They ended up giving us a Ford Explorer. We had to stuff the luggage into the storage space because it was too small for all of our luggage. They said it would be cheaper and we would be credited for the difference. As of today we were not credited for the difference. Booked 2 months ahead of time and paid in full and no van available the day of our vacation. We were cramped into the Ford Explorer. Bad business Budget. I would give you ZERO stars.

Read the fine print... We were told we would get appropriate reimbursement if we turned in our car early. Turned it in two days early. Budget told us fine print said no rebate on “prepaid” rental. Here is the part that sucks. We paid $288 for 7 days rental insurance. Turned in a full 3 days early. Had to hound them on phone 3 times and finally got $38 credit. Two days of insurance should have been about $80. What a con. No more Budget for us!

I could go on for days on this one! Sooooo.... Budget didn't have a car for me on my scheduled time. 45 min. later still couldn't tell me when I would have a car or if I would get a car. Meanwhile others were getting cars. They were rude. Never would give me information. Had to ask every time. Took smoke breaks every 20 min. Blew smoke in my face at one point when I ask any news. Really!? Ok! (While they were outside smoking and mind you with at least 6-8 people waiting on them in lobby). They actually said my car would be there in 20 min. They ended up giving it to someone else lol! WAit What!?! When asked they said they had me mistaken for someone else! OMG! WOW! Ok Budget! They had taken my information first before telling me about not having a car.

I finally said I am cancelling 1.5 hours later with no information yet. They just said "ok" and scratched my name off the paper. Ha easy I guess! Anyways, I wanted to make sure they didn't charge me for anything. I said "you're not charging me anything right?" Them: "do you physically have your card?" Me: "yes I do" Them: "If you didn't sign anything we can't charge you!" Rudely I might add. I left. Went to Enterprise. Got a car and was on the road within 15 min. after arriving. I had my reservation with Budget for at least two weeks. To make it worse a few days later I noticed Budget charged me a $1 on my credit card! Seriously who does that!!?? Ummmm Budget Rent a Car in Lexington Ky off of S. Broadway apparently does! #notbudgetloyal #thankyouenterpriseingeorgetownkentucky #enterpriseloyalalltheway

Buyer beware of this company. Make sure you read your rental agreement. If you rent from them for a week say at 24 dollars a day and you return the car early. They have a right per the agreement to charge you more money as they did me. So I had 24.00 per day and they brought it up to 44.00 per day. They are a sneaky company and if you do not look at the agreement you will be charged. The rental person does not tell you up front about this either. As I said anyone reading this BUYER BEWARE. Make sure to look at all car companies. They will never get my business again.

After returning home, we have now been charged an extra 107 dollars for 'Roadside assistance' after I specifically requested not to have it and for 'refueling the car.' As there were no staff I could not have contested these charges and now find they have taken the money. I travel to the USA frequently and have never had any of these charges from other companies. This is not related to the car but related to the customer services at the Denver airport. I would not recommend Budget for a friend nor will I use the service again. At least at the Denver airport. The CS person gave me a Chevy Tahoe and told me that it was a better car than the one I reserved. When I explained to him that I reserved a premium SUV and showed him the price difference on my app, he still insisted I was wrong. Then he told me to go into the parking lot and see if I can find a car for myself. It was raining, but I did this since it was late and I didn't want to argue with him.

I spent 30 min in the parking lot trying to find a car. The CS person was rude and when I talked to the manager he wasn't very helpful but asked me "did you find the car you want." I am not sure why I had to go find the car I reserved and already paid for. I spent 1.5 hours at the location and by the time I got out the lot, it was past midnight and my kids were so tired. We really had a bad experience. Please make sure no other customer has to go through this. Thank you, Deep **.

Yet when directed where to initial all of those lines the agent obviously directed me to initial additional coverage to the tune of over $400! I did not realize this till I returned the car and was shocked to see the charge. I have written to the corporate offices and they refuse to reimburse the money.

Now if this was just me I would not use the word FRAUD but reading other reviews others have had the same experience - therefore it appears this is a deceptive practice this company uses. I am appalled and furious. It gets 1 star only because I had to give to post this review. Budget Car Rental can go fall off the face of the earth. Two different prices, one for "pay now" and another for "pay when you pick up". SO, I do the latter, since I'm not sure which card I actually feel like using at time of rental. Do the online reservation and enter my card info to "hold" the car. Lo & behold, it appears on my Amex statement five minutes later. So I make another reservation, and do the "pay now" thing, since as long as they're gonna charge my card, I might as well save the couple bucks.

So I call to cancel the first reservation, and explain what happened to the guy, who tells me there's a $50 cancellation fee. SCREW YOU. YOU'RE the idiots who charged my card at the higher rate to begin with. So now, I'm a prisoner to Budget, because even if I told them off, I'm doing business elsewhere, it'll cost me 100 bucks in cancellation fees. After all this BS, that stinking car BETTER be sitting there waiting for me when I show up. I didn't even start my trip yet, and I'm already fed up, I just wanna get this over with so I can write them out of my life.

I sent a young employee to Indianapolis for training and booked his travel online which included a Budget rental car. I had declined all the extra insurance charges on the booking since we are covered by our company policy. I charged the entire trip to my company credit card. When my employee arrived to pick up the car the counter person told him that Budget couldn't use my credit card and he would have to use his personal card instead for the car rental. He then continued to sell this young man multiple unnecessary insurance policies which he insisted that he needed. An economy car rental for 3 days went from the original cost of $144 to a final bill of $498.

I am very disappointed in Budget for taking advantage of a young man renting a car for the first time. By the way I booked travel for my employees often and have never had a rental car company refuse to accept my card or an online reservation where all the appropriate boxes had already been checked. I do not plan on ever using Budget again.

Horrible experience. My family and I flew from Denver to Milwaukee and attempted to reserve two child seats. We used the Frontier booking bundle and there was nowhere to reserve child seats in the booking. When we spoke to the representative at the booking they assured us to contact Budget after the booking was confirmed and they would have child seats available for us. I immediately got off the phone with Frontier and called Budget and 15 phone calls later I finally spoke to a Budget representative in Milwaukee who assured me that the seats would be guaranteed at pickup. When we arrived to Milwaukee we requested the car seats and all they had was infant seats.

A day later after voicing my concerns about having the correct seats at the rental pickup they told me the infant seats was all that was available for our rental. They charged us an additional $200 for the car seats despite not having the correct seats and referred us to Frontier. After another 5 phone calls to Frontier on the booking they finally referred me back to Budget that was still unable to tell me why there was $200 additional charges for the wrong product.

The experience was extremely frustrating and little was done from Frontier or Budget to give me the correct information or services to meet the basic needs of the trip. I would highly recommend not booking car rentals through Frontier and additionally recommend that Budget not be used in any capacity. Both expressed very poor customer service and the ability to understand the agents was challenging to say the least. These organizations that prey on consumers should feel ashamed of themselves and further express no regard for fixing issues they deliberately incite on themselves. Consumer be aware. Expect unaccounted charges for the poor services and the wrong products.

I wouldn’t suggest running from Budget to anyone. I had a reservation made for over a week. When it was time for me to show up for my rental, they could only offer me a pick up, when I had a reservation for a full-size car. Mind you in their eyes it was an upgrade (“only car available for me”). Mind you I had three kids with me and we were traveling out of town for hours away for the weekend. So no the pick up will not work because we have obviously had luggage we needed to bring and I was not about to throw that nor a kid in the back of a pick up on an interstate. The customer service rep did not try to help get me on the road in going at all, she simply told me that was all that she had for me and everything else was reserved for specific people, mind you I had a reservation for a whole week prior to picking it up. So I was left no choice but to call Enterprise, and thank God they came through…

After having to drive a whole hour and a half away to a different town just to get an a rental car beings this was 4 o’clock on a Friday. I then called the manager of the store to let them know about my terrible experience and she said she was sorry and that she would reach out to corporate and see what else could be done. Did I ever hear back from her? Nope. Since then I’ve called back on two different occasions and left voicemails, no returned call. Do not waste your time or money on these people. It is not worth it.

May 2019, I reserved a Hyundai Elantra with Budget Rent-A-Car a week in advance. On the Saturday 5/25 morning of pickup 7:00 a.m., I went to the Nashville Airport to pick up my rental. There was NO Budget representative at the counter, so the AVIS representative had to take care of everyone. Apparently these two companies works together. There was a lot of people because this was the Memorial Weekend. I didn't want to hold anyone up with my reservation so I thought I would do Budget and all of their customers a big favor and quickly fly through my reservation. Especially since I reserved a Hyundai Elantra a week in advance already.

After a 45 minute wait in line it was finally my turn. I handed my reservation information to the lady at the counter and said, "I reserved and already prepaid for a Hyundai Elantra, just wanted to pick it up." She said "I don't know what we have out there, I'll see what I can get you into." Base on those words my thoughts were:

    1. I reserved and prepaid a car a week in advance and they do not have it? This is literally bad business already.

    2. Base on my numerous rental experience, when rental place do not have the correct car that their customer's reserved, they offer a free upgrade.

And so the lady asked me if I would take a Ford Explorer, I said is there anything smaller? It's just me and one bag. She then said the smallest she has available is a KIA Optima. So I agree, and she pull up a couple of contracts to sign. Never EVER mentioning that this was NOT a free upgrade. She only mention two things:

    1. Do you want full coverage or opt out?

    2. Do you want to prepaid for full tank and bring it back at whatever it is at on the day of return? I opted out of both and signed everything. She printed my receipt and I took it and head out to the parking garage to find my car. When I got to the rental lot, a guy try to help me but I could see that there were nothing there but large SUV and luxury/sporty cars. Aside from one shiny small RED KIA Optima which was what I ended up with.

Three days later on Memorial Monday, I return the car to the airport in Nashville. A guy inspected the car, everything was good and I fill the tank to full. He then charged me for the car. I asked why was I getting charge again for the car? I already prepaid. He told me it was the upgrade fee and I had to go talk to the front counter about it if I have a problem.

When I got to the front counter I spoke to a very smart ass representative and his manager at the Budget counter. I asked why am I being charge an upgrade fee? He said because the KIA Optima was a upgrade to what I prepaid for. I told him I know that, but I couldn't get a Hyundai Elantra that day, the lady was only able to get me a KIA Optima. He then type something on his computer and replied, "Well I don't believe you, it said here on my computer that May 25th 2019 we had 5000+ Hyundai Elantra in house for rental." This was when I knew these ** were pulling the "bait & switch".

    1. The rental lot at BNA airport is not large enough for 5000+ Hyundai Elantra to just lay around especially with all the construction they are doing. Plus I was literally in their rental lot that day and they did NOT have any small cars line up for pick up beside what I listed above with the KIA.

    2. His smart ass tone of "Haha we got you good" when he said "You should had read what you were signing".

Enraged that this company would take my trust and kindness for a joy ride, I left and decided to handle this with my CC customer service by filing a claim. It does not matter what I sign, because first of all they fail to compile with what was initially agreed upon, which was a Hyundai Elantra. It is shady terrible company like Budget that is the reason we have to have NOTARIES and witnesses when signing documents. Conclusion: DON'T EVER TRUST THESE LYING SCUMBAGS. TAKE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD AND READ EVERY LINE WORD BY WORD AND QUESTION EVERYTHING BEFORE SIGNING. THEY REALLY WILL TRY TO PULL THE BAIT AND SWITCH AT EVERY CHANCE THEY GET.

Fill out papers and sign thinking I was safe, get a notice immediately my cars had been charged over $450 from Budget. I had already prepaid so there should have been only a $100 if anything. I flip through the paperwork and the rep had added the insurance. So I had to go back and wait for it to be corrected, but the $450 charge now 10 days after the pickup hasn't been released. I returned the rental today, so in a week it should be removed. The fact a rep added things after I verbally declined with 2 witnesses standing beside me: read every single thing on the screen because they can't be trusted to listen.

I always check the approval ratings before I use a company. I see now why Budget only has 2.3 stars.

I reserved my vehicle online and prepaid for my rental. I was directed to arrive by 2:30 pm. I arrived and first could not locate the service desk because there was no signage. I asked a salesperson where the Budget counter was located inside the Sears store in Willowbrook Wayne. I approached the desk and there was a sign notifying me that the service rep was out of the office and would return in 15 minutes, with a telephone number. Since I was not sure when his 15 minutes began I called the number. I spoke to the rep and he informed me that he had just left and would return in 15 minutes. I informed him that I would go into the mall and have lunch and return to pick up my prepaid reservation.

My children and I returned as he was checking out another family. He said, "I hope you are not picking up a vehicle today because I just sold my last vehicle." I was astonished. I asked him why did he sell my reserved vehicle after I arrived to pick up at the scheduled time and he was not present. He said, "there is no guarantee." I asked him, "Doesn't prepayment and being on time to pickup guarantee a vehicle". I asked him to locate me a vehicle because this was a breach in the contract and it was due to his negligence. I called the 1-800# for Budget on the telephone and asked for a resolution. The only resolution offered was a cancellation.

How does this rectify my situation? I would not have contacted AVIS/Budget in the first place if I didn't need a rental vehicle. This is horrendous. Now I have a charge on my credit card pending three days for return credit and I still have to go to Enterprise on Monday morning to reserve a vehicle. The sales person said, "you should have waited for me to return from my break. It's your own fault that you don't have a vehicle". Really, so this is what you say to a customer who has spent their money to patronize your company. I spent 15 minutes on the phone reserving the vehicle, print out the confirmation, drove to the location, arrived by pickup time only to be denied service. SHAME ON YOU BUDGET RENTAL CAR WILLOWBROOK. SHAME ON YOUR EMPLOYEES AT THE WILLOWBROOK LOCATION. I will never recommend Budget Rental Car to anyone.

Wow! Asheville Airport, NC, and Budget Rental Corp. “Customer Service”... ABSOLUTELY the worst car rental experience in over 40 years of car renting. THE WORST! If you’re rental car shopping, do yourself a huge favor and skip Budget Rental at the Asheville Airport. After a month and a half of attempting to help them fix an error THEY made (to their benefit, not to the customer’s benefit), it’s eventually boiled down to my credit card company crediting me for the $250.00 Budget overcharged me. They claimed, and charged our credit card, that we returned the car five days later than we were supposed to, when in actuality, the car was turned on time. So in essence, unless my bank recovers their credit to me from Budget, Budget just scammed my bank out of $250.00.

Their “customer service,” incompetence, lack of genuine courtesy, lack of individualized personal attention, lack of investigative effort, basically - lack of professionalism in any sense of the meaning of the word was mind bogglingly unbelievable! Through roughly ten emails back and forth, not once was the person initiating an email or responding to my emails, the same person! Attaching a PDF file of the only paper any Budget staff ever gave us to an email was replied to (by another person) with a note telling me the file couldn’t exceed 3MB in size. Downsized the file and resent it, and got another impersonal email (from yet another person) telling me the file name had to use file naming conventions (we had a few spaces in the file name) so we change the file name and sent the file again to finally get confirmation they received it.

The (pathetic) continuous chain of back and forth emails, all resulted in repetitive verbiage that made it seem like they never read any of the emails! After spending roughly a cumulative 6 hours of time attempting to help them, Thankfully my credit card company absorbed the loss (thank you Mastercard for having exemplary customer service!).

There are so many details of mediocrity in the entire experience, it’s amazing Budget stays in business! I understand Budget and Avis are ‘sister companies,’ so, I can only assume they follow the same patterns of lying, completely insincere, canned phrases of empathy and concern, and financial ‘slickness.’ I could go on for hours with describing more of the agony, but now that my bank has made it right, at least I’m not hurt financially. Now, as a courtesy to the car renters of the world, I just want everyone to know - you’re better off walking than renting a car from Budget Rental.

They sent a letter 3 weeks after for $150 fee to clean pet hair. They sent pictures with no time stamp and very blurry as their evidence, they stated "excessive soilage" however the service writer stated as "medium detail" not excessive, but the fee is. I called and stated that I should have been made aware at time off drop off that they considered it "excessive" so I could see it. Once the car is left you never know what happens after and it's unethical to charge such exorbitant fee after the fact. The dog was in the car 2.5 hours, short hair, 15 lbs, the amount of hair could be easily removed. I'm very disappointed with Budget and how they are exploiting customers with exorbitant fees. The new way to boost up their revenue. So, when you drop off your car, make sure you ask if they think your car is clean enough for them to clean it for the next rental and have it in writing so you don't get a letter 3 weeks after.

And not to the state of Mass for something worthy, but to budget because on top of being a terrible company, they are a greedy one as well. Never again will they get my business. I was inspired to write a haiku: Please go to budget/ you know, if you hate yourself/ and support such greed. She then proceeded to inform him that she would be charging $86 for picking up the car one hour early. He was on his way for funeral and could not argue. I then called and complained about the charge for picking up the vehicle an hour early and was informed That we were charged for the gas prepaid and the insurance which my husband declined. So the counter agent pretty much charged him for those two things and told him it was for picking up the car early. I have never seen that done before. Called and complained. They do not care. Worst customer service so be careful. Next time you turn down their insurance they’ll try to charge you for something else.

I think we all can figure it out!! I have been fighting them every week since April.

I found out customer service isn't even allowed to make any outgoing phone calls. So all they did for me was email the Sanford Budget or chat on the computer asking, "Do you see any certificates?" "Nope ok I tried." I called the Sanford Budget many times myself and all they did was send me to customer service. I called and wrote the headquarters with the same results. I did more than customer service did. After the responses I received Budget is unhelpful and liars. Never will I use them again and no one else should either.

They gave me only one key for the vehicle and when I crossed into Idaho I found that the vehicle wouldn't go over 70 mph. A previous renter had set that limit in a software program called MyKey and it couldn't be removed without the master key, which I didn't have. No mention was made of this by Budget and over the next 11 days and 2700 miles I was frustrated and my safety was endangered by a car that couldn't go the speed limit in Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.

WARNINGS: NEVER rent a Ford product that has the Mykey software unless you are given both keys! If any company puts such a vehicle in your hands, demand to be given a replacement or take it to a Ford dealer, have it fixed and send the company the bill! I got a message stating this was my last opportunity to "surrender" the vehicle before it is reported as stolen. Note this is the FIRST I've heard from Budget during the time I've had the car.

Further, one friend & one acquaintance contacted me stating Budget called them & threatened THEM WITH ARREST! Mind you, I haven't even had time to make arrangements for someone to pick me up to drop the car off. I've rented from Budget for years & have had vehicles for up to 30 days before. NEVER AGAIN! By the way, the vehicle was so dirty that I had to have the car washed myself because I could barely see through the windshield & the interior wasn't as horrible as the outside, but it had greasy marks & fingerprints all over the place. It was rather embarrassing to pick up my guests with the nasty interior.

Very bad experience. Budget rent out a car without spare tyre. I had a very bad experience hiring Budget Car on March 2019. I picked up the car from New York and drove toward Niagara Falls. I had a tire puncture on the highway a few miles before Buffalo at 3.00am. I had to stop on the side of the highway and called Budget road assistance. The customer service asked me to check if any spare tire. I was so surprised that actually THERE WAS NO SPARE TYRE IN THE CAR. So she cannot send roadside assistance to come and change the tire. She also cannot send a car to exchange because there was no Budget office open until 8 am.

It was snowing and very cold on the side of the highway. I was with my kid and my wife. So I asked the customer service to send towing and we would like to come with the towing to a nearby safe place, but she said no towing that can accommodate us inside the towing car. So Budget put us in trouble and has no solution for us. I had no option and called 911.

Short story, 911 truck towed the car and helped us. We have to pay for the towing. We are glad to arrive safely in Niagara Falls at 5 am. Thank you for 911. Next day I called Budget customer service to complain and get a refund. But they only give $40 credit. This was also after a few emails and calls. It was a very bad experience. I NEVER USE Budget Car Rental anymore. I better pay the good one and arrive safely at my destination. Is renting a car without spare tyre illegal?

On May 24th I went online and made reservations at Budget Rent a Car using my Walmart MoneyCard prepaid credit card. The transaction went through with the cost of 48.50 being the total for the day for a small economy car. I was given a confirmation number and my plans were set for the weekend!!.. OR SO I THOUGHT. When I went down to the Ocala International Airport and entered the trailer that their office is in I was greeted by two young guys at the counter who were taking care of an upset customer. After watching the man storm out I was next. I gave him my confirmation number and the same credit card that was accepted online. I was told it was a prepaid card and I would not be able to rent a vehicle. Now my balance at this time on the card was over 11 hundred dollars.

I was handed back my card and I asked well online they accepted it and from the first four numbers of the card tells you that it is indeed a prepaid card so why did it confirm that card. I was told "I don't know, but our policy does not accept prepaid cards." I never signed anything, I was denied the car and my weekend was suddenly ruined. I went back to my ride and told them to take me back home. Later that very same day May 25th I checked the balance on my prepaid card and to my surprise here is a charge from guess who? BUDGET RENT A CAR. They confirmed a reservation, then did not rent me the car which was to have cost 48.50, and now I find out they charged my card, they they don't accept $76.50. Wait that's 28 dollars more than it was supposed to have cost. How do you turn a guy down, ruin his weekend, then take his money with no signature and have it be more than what you were quoted.

This company is so sad and so many employees seem very incompetent. So I call customer service, explain I didn't get a car but was charged and needed my money put back on my card. They looked it up, saw it was cancelled and told me they can't find the charge. Well it's two weeks later they still haven't found the charge and this is after I supplied them with a screenshot showing their company took 76.50. It says it plain as day and they know I didn't get the car cause it says so on their computer. I've been given the run around for two weeks and nothing has been accomplished except raising my blood pressure every time I get told by another idiot that they can't find I was charged. Well look at the screenshot I sent you of my transactions where it says you took 76.50 and you know I didn't get a car so why aren't you returning my money.

Now today I'm told that's for my patience and this should be resolved within 1hr to 21 days. What, another 3 weeks. You guys are a joke. You're stealing my hard earned money. You denied me the car after confirming it and you charged a card you said wasn't good enough to rent one of your cards and charged more than the original agreement. And now it's gonna take 5 weeks for me to get my money that you should have never charged.... Warning warning. If you read this and ever use this company then you get what you deserve.

There's no one that can find why I was charged, where the money is, and they know I didn't get a car so hey dumbass give me my money. It's a no brainer but no another three weeks. This is an attempt to slide one past me but it's not happening. Stay away from these people. They steal people money. They charge you without you signing for it then they can hold your money back...well I guess forever. A total scam and a bunch of thieves.

I went to rent a SUV and was assigned a Buick enclave. The car was dirty on the outside, but I could live with that, but the trash and animal hair on the inside was not going to work for me. I flagged a person down who was parking a freshly 'washed' vehicle and pointed out the issues with the car. He said he would clean it. He took it and about an hour later, the car comes back washed, but trash was still inside. A different person brought the vehicle to me and I asked him to remove the trash, and he said he couldn't get it out. The lady who was helping people find their cars explained to me that if they remove the trash, the people who has that actual job duty can file a grievance because others are doing their job. I was pretty livid at this time. If the people whose duty it was actually performed their job, nobody else would have to do it for them. She got it out, after requesting permission, and I was on my way.

I returned with a full tank, and the person checking me in said the enclave has to be returned inside, otherwise I would be charged for gas because in the computer it states it's a 22 gallon tank instead of a 18 gallon tank, so it has to be overridden inside. I needed to complain anyway about my pickup experience. I go inside and ask for Nicky. The agents call her on the phone and she wants to play the 50 questions game, who am I, is she expecting me, what do I want. At this point I'm so frustrated, I tell the agent never mind, I'll call corporate and to close me out. She tells the person on the phone to tell the agent don't close me out, she's coming.

We go back and forth until I say, "You cannot hold me hostage because she's decided to come out of her castle. Close me out." and he did. He closed me out, charging me for gas. I was going to just let it go, and vowed to NEVER rent at Budget until I looked over my invoice and noticed the fuel charge. I immediately called my credit card company to dispute the ENTIRE charge, he called the Budget corporate office and after a lot of yelling, he took off almost the whole bill. It's not the so much the money, it's the principle. I don't recommend Budget to anyone. I rent a lot of cars and they will never get my business again. They all need retraining. I honestly don't know where to start. The first time I rented with Budget I went to desk to pick up reserved car. But before I completed I ask the representative if I could go see the car before I completed the reservation because I had other reservations with other companies for a bigger car. She says yes but asked for my credit card and license while I went to go see if the car was big enough which it wasn't. I came back in and told her it was too small and that I'm gonna check with the other companies. I get to Thrifty desk and the car they had available was perfect. The representative goes to complete the transaction and my card declined and said for her to try it again because it shouldn't decline. But it did. Check my account and Budget had took 200 off my card without my knowledge.

I had to go back to Budget desk and ask why she did that when I explained I needed to see the car before completing the transactions. She said she apologize and that she give me a print out showing it will be reversed. Long story short I went back to Thrifty. The money was still unavailable. The representative let me go ahead and pay what I had on my card and to call back Saturday to charge my card for the remainder. We waited three days. Budget was still holding the funds so it caused me to have a late fee with Thrifty. So returning the car Monday, the funds still was not available because of Budget. I had to talk with Budget manager and my card services for them to release the funds Budget was holding. Budget charged my card without me knowing that caused me to get a late fee with another company because they were still holding the funds.

But I gave Budget another chance the following week and rented from them and they said they were gonna refund me the late fee from Thrifty which they did. I arrived 14 mins late returning the car back and the manager tried to charge me late fees. And I told him the representative said if I'm 15 mins late then will be a late fee so what are these charges if I'm not after the grace period. He apologizes and says, "Oh you are right. It's actually 15 mins now so let me print you out a different receipt." My thing is if I didn't speak up he was still gonna charge me. I give them another chance because their prices was a lot cheaper than everyone else.

I was to return the car on a Monday but I call the customer service number to keep car for another week which my print out shows for another week. It's 189 and from May 3 to May 6 it was 119 plus the 189. They gave me a different amount and I explained my print out says it will be additional 189. So I said I will try to reach out again to local office. I called multiple times. No answer. So I called Avis desk also because sometimes they send you to Avis desk and still no answer. So I called the customer service number and they said they can modify it. But when I dropped the car off to make sure my charges are correct. I go to drop the car, Budget said it was 938 and that I had to go to Avis desk. I go to Avis desk and then it was 1000 then It goes up 2550. And I said how, she said they put the car under kids and prevention like the car was loss and I broke down crying because that's not what my print out said.

I couldn't afford that. She said that I will have to call customer service. I explained I had coupons they never added. Also she said to just call them. I called them. They couldn't explain the charges and ask if I could email them the print out of it saying 189 for additional week and I did. So they sent me another one saying it's 524.18 which is still inaccurate but I accepted because I’m tired of going back and forth with them. I checked my bank statements and Budget charges my card 2500. So I called them again. They ask if I could send my bank statements because they don’t see that I did. They refunded my card 1056 which means they still charged me over 800 when they emailed me it would be 524. So I’m still going thru this with Budget. I should have learned from the first incident but now I know to never in life rent from them again. They are a fraudulent company.

I usually go to enterprise in Jackson, MI while up this way and never have any issues. I have seamlessly rented cars for years. I called Budget customer service they said call Hotwire. I call Hotwire they say they can refund me and that's it. So now I'm having to find other means of transportation to very important business meetings that I probably won't be making it to on time if at all.

Nobody took care of me even on the corporate side. Budget car and Avis are taken care of by the Avis station at the airport here. The kid I dealt with wouldn't give me his name after asking politely multiple times so that corporate knew who to talk to. But it didn't matter. Corporate "customer service" didn't even get as far as to ask what he looked like. He is about 6' 5" or a little taller skinny thin build brown hair and wears glasses. This place was 100% unprofessional and unwilling to help a very valued returning customer. Shame.

And then I contacted Budget through Twitter and she says, "I show you have paid 480 already through American Airlines." All of this is a rip off. I had a confirmation for a fixed price, say $350, which included the LDW which I accepted. At the counter, they added supplemental liability insurance and mysteriously, on the crappy dot matrix printout, it had a blank where it said: "YOUR ESTIMATED TOTAL CHARGES________" cuz that surely would have tipped you that something was wrong. Their customer service (using that term very loosely) refused to refund the charges for the insurance that THEY, without consent, added to the bill. I supposes my crime is missing that they slipped it into the laundry list of charges which I didn't expect to change. The total for this mess was over $500.

After initialing and signing the contract we got the vehicle. We decided to return the car to a different airport which I called about and had an additional $100.00 fee added to the contract to do this. We picked the car up at 4:35pm Friday and returned it at 5:30am Monday morning. We were told we would be charged $138.00 for not refueling. The contract did show we were suppose to refuel which wasn’t suppose to have been that way! Ended up with a total charge of $512.00 for a Kia for 2 1/2 days which was ridiculous!!! We were told to walk about a block outside where the car would be brought to us. After 25 minutes of waiting in the cold, windy, and now dark, my husband walked back to ask where the car was. When it finally came, it had a broken rear view window so we asked for a replacement. That took another 20 minutes. We will never use Budget again.

Poorest car rental experience of my life. The agents work on commission so it is to their financial advantage to upgrade you from your online prepaid agreement. Our desk agent made several discount offers on a piece of scratch paper: minivan to SUV "for no added cost"; military discount; promising that this new vehicle would be better-suited to our purposes, at "$130 less than your original car." He then proceeded to spend five or seven minutes asking questions about my husband's experience in the military, taking valuable time and distracting us from the task at hand.

When all these things were printed out for me to sign the contract, he DID NOT have me initial the important bits as required. I expected that each item in our discussion would be represented on the contract. I found out after I returned it that NONE OF THE OFFERS he made verbally were given: no military discount, no free upgrade, nothing. The piece of scratch paper that would have showed these offers was not given to us, of course. One expects ethical treatment in a business. One expects that agreed-upon offers will be printed on the contract. What we got was verbal promises and then a final bill of $579 instead of the $333 it would have cost me to stay with the online deal. When I reached out to customer service, they threw me a bone ("As a one-time courtesy we will refund half of your upgrade costs") and said they would "file a report." Neither of these is enough to get me to use this company again.

I asked if the agents worked on commission and the phone rep said, "I am unable to answer that," which he clarified as "not supposed to answer" if asked. To be fair, I am certain there are locations with more ethical agents; however, at SFO airport, we were unfortunate to get one who flagrantly inflated prices and presented us with a written contract that did not reflect the discussion just concluded. I feel the training company-wide needs to be reviewed. I am angry about this.

Hi Team, I usually do not write experience after rented a car from provider like you, But this time I had to so that you and other people will aware of this. I usually rent car once/twice in month (sometime multiple times) to visit my friends. But this time rental experience was horrible. 1) I have booked a Standard-Size Car from Charlotte Douglas Intl Airport from Budget Rent a Car. When I booked, it showed me Car type is : Volkswagen Jetta or similar make/model not guaranteed. When I went to pick up my car, the person in the counter told me, "There is only one car and you have to take it." That too very rudely. There is no other option. Seriously!!!! Normally in airport areas, there are many cars and you can choose your car from many among while pick up. I had a experience with all other Car rental company Like this.

    2) Then he told me the Car is Nissan Sentra. Again, from Volkswagen Jetta to Nissan Sentra!!! Is there any comparison. Customer should get at least nearby cars compared to whatever showing in the booking page. 3) I had no other option other than take the car cause I had to go. When I started the car, saw it's already ran more than 36000, means it's already ran too much. I had to visit Florida state which is almost like more than 1500 miles including returning. Normally till now I got cars from other rental car companies and they are on average ran very low mileage. 4) I came out with that car. After driving 1 hour I see message in Car dashboard saying maintenance required for Oil and Filter, and Tires. So that means, The car was not properly maintained before providing to any customer for driving as a rent. That is the best.

    5) Last but very serious and can be life threatening. After driving few hours, it started raining, and I started the wiper. Believe me, the wiper was so bad that it was not even removing the water, on the other hand it's like full Blurry and Hazy. I was at the middle of road and in moderate speed. I had to stop completely at the shoulder and had to wait till the rain stop.

Initially I thought, This happening because of air temperature. But when it was fully sunshine I checked by water sprinkler, and that time also it is not clearing the glass. The wiper blade was old and it's not clearing the water at all. So I had to start again when the rain stopped, and I had to stop almost 4-5 times in road whenever it was raining. It was a horrible experience for me for the 1st time. I am driving now for almost more than 5 Years. I rented car in many places all over the country from many vendor. 1st time in my life, I have experience like this which is very bad and very dangerous. I am sharing my experience here and I will provide review online everywhere to make other people aware of all this. Thanks.

I've rented from Budget a number of times over the years. Most recently I rented for three days, for a $165 total amount. I was just driving locally and returning the car to the same place. After I returned the car--no damage, full tank, light mileage--within a few hours Budget charged my credit card twice. The first charge was the ~$165 rental rate I was told in advance. The second charge was for ~$2,500!

I called the next day. The first contact asked me if I was sure it was a Budget charge, then told me he only saw a ~$240 charge for my rental. I told him that there should only be the $165 charge which showed on my credit card account. Now I had two concerns about Budget instead of one. I had to be transferred to the billing department. They researched it while I was on hold and told me that the $165 amount would be charged as per my rental agreement. The $2500 was a "one-way charge" that was set up when I rented the car. First, it was clear when I rented the car that I was returning it to the same place. Second, that seems to me an extraordinary amount for a one-way charge.

Budget told me it will take 4-7 days to clear this pending item from my credit card. This is not the first time I've been saddled with an extra charge that took time to be reversed. I do not know if "pending" charges somehow benefit Budget's bottom line or cash flow. This seems to me an exploitive business practice. It could also push me beyond my credit card limit. Also, stick shift and console area were far from clean. Dried liquids, dusty debris. The good news is that the car did not smell of smoke. Note to self: try Enterprise next time.

My mom and I rented a car through Budget to be picked up at Knoxville airport for a stay in Gatlinburg, TN. A week later we would return the car there and fly back to Philadelphia. Unfortunately our flight was cancelled and there were no flights available for a couple days so the airline told us to drive from Gatlinburg, TN (where we were staying) to Greenville, SC airport. The only way to do that was with our rental car. So we called Budget on the way (a four hour drive) and explained the situation in detail—that we were stranded and had to drive to South Carolina and return the car to the airport there instead of Knoxville airport.

The man NEVER once said we would be charged an outrageous fee of $300 for returning the fee to a different location. Had he let us know we would’ve made different arrangements. We specifically asked the Budget representative how much extra it would cost for keeping the car an additional night because our flight wouldn’t leave South Carolina until the next day (a day later than originally planned). He said we would be charged about 70 dollars for returning the next day but said NOTHING about a fee of 300 dollars for returning the car to a different location even when we specifically asked him that.

Upon arrival at Greenville Spartanburg airport the Budget employee told us we would be charged an extra 300 dollars. If the customer service representative INFORMED US of the fee for returning the car to a different location we would have changed our plans and drove back to Knoxville, returned the plane there, rented a different car and drove on to SOUTH CAROLINA. Uninformative, not knowledgeable, and very difficult to understand the customer service representative due to a foreign accent. I will NEVER use Budget rental company again.

In February 2019, I picked up a rental car after reserving it online. The charge was $245 and when I got to the counter, I was told it would be processed as a temporary hold for that amount and the final amount would be charged only when I returned the car. Being that I have rented several cars in the last few months due to an issue with my own car, this was not news to me and I accepted. I read every single document, as we all should, and figured as long as I held up my end of the bargain, surely this major corporation would as well.

I should have known something was wrong when the front desk agent didn't even know that they accepted debit cards at his location, proceeded to swipe my card incorrectly, and I then had to explain to him that I had already called the corporate office days before and was told they did. I literally trained him on their own policies. Huge red flag but I was in a hurry so I assumed he was new and went on my way. I checked my account every day that I had the car, saw the amount and assumed all was well.

When I returned the car, clean and refilled just like the agreement requested, I thought for sure there would be no extra charges or any issues but I was wrong. The next month, I noticed the "hold" of $245 had been processed as a debit which would have been fine had I not then been charged a separate amount of $600 ($245 more than what the total amount of my rental should have been.) It was then I realized they charged me the same amount twice! I have called them repeatedly to which they have very unprofessionally suggested that I put my bank on a 3-way call with them so they can tell them they messed up and please release the funds. Budget, that is not at all how professional banks work!

After several phone calls trying to get Budget to fax my bank a form stating their error so that the charge can be reversed like a normal accredited business would do, they finally sent over a fax while I waited on hold for 20 minutes making sure that it would get done. I wish I could say that resolved my issue but Budget really isn't good at solving issues, just creating them. Instead, I ended up having to call Budget yet again a week later looking for my refund or at least some correspondence to explain what was going on. I was then told by a Budget agent that it's my bank's fault, they're the ones that processed the duplicate charge, and they should refund it. Excuse me? My bank did not take my debit card and swipe it, they did not run my card as a debit then lie and say that's not what happened when it was time to pay the piper.

Budget has continued to admit their error to me over the phone yet when it comes to refunding, they blame my bank, Navy Federal Credit Union (real classy to treat vets and their families this way as well.). Here I am in April 2019 currently on the phone explaining to yet another Budget agent what's going on and of course, writing this complaint so nobody makes this same mistake. I would also like to throw in that I ended up having to call them a second time for the same issue back in December but that was cleared up a lot faster and I thought it was just an isolated mistake but according to my bank who has had to deal with a lot of angry customers, BUDGET/AVIS has now made a bad habit of not training their front desk agents or their customer service reps consistently enough to know their policies so as not to overcharge customers.

Not to mention they also charged me for erroneous tolls that I had to call the state of Texas to remove. Horrible experience that has now taken almost 4 months to correct. I have now submitted an escalated complaint form on their website and I am now heading over to the FTC to submit a formal complaint with them as well because apparently, Budget does not care enough to not defraud their customers.

He didn't print me the contract as he said they're going paperless. However, I found my credit card is charged more than double of the car rent because of this ER insurance. The email contract showed I accepted the ER insurance which I surely I didn't. I won't rent from Budget ever again.

Since I would be traveling internationally but would be returning to the out of state location before needing to drive back home I called Budget and was told there would be a $348 fee for returning the vehicle to a different place. I was very upset given all the expenses I was already incurring unexpectedly. I did get the runaround the first attempt at getting the fee waived but I called back and spoke to a gentlemen (I wish I could remember his name) and he was beyond empathetic and helpful! He explained that with proof I could get the fee waived. He provided me with the steps to the process and was very patient.

I rent with Budget often for personal and work travel, but this experience during such a difficult time made me a loyal customer. Even when they are slightly higher priced (which is not often the case) I prefer them. I never write reviews but I feel it’s important to highlight when things go right just like we are so quick to do so when they go wrong.

Our last rental car experience was with Budget. I reserved our car a few months beforehand, securing a good price. However, upon arriving at the Budget rental car office located at the OGG airport (Maui), it became clear the savings were not worth the time this took. Travelers were not allowed in the rental office until their names were called and even then the line inside took another 30-45 minutes. I commented on this and the rental agent told me this was just a normal day. Two hours to finalize the transaction was NOT worth the savings I had secured. I will never use them again.

I wish I had read these reviews prior to renting a car from Budget; it would have saved me time and frustration. I rented a car in Toronto to drive one-way to Detroit, and was told I could drop it off at any Detroit-area Budget location. Nope. After arranging a ride back home and taking the car to the closest Budget, the franchise owner told me he didn’t have room and would not accept the car. I called Budget customer service and they told me I had to take it to the airport - a 45 minute drive in rush-hour traffic. I told them I would not be doing that and they could pick the car up from my home. They refused because I am not a “premier” or "Gold-status” or “pooh-bah” elite member.

After much back and forth, they eventually agreed that I could take the car to another, closer location. I returned the car the following day, just after the location opened and was told I was being charged for a second day. I called customer “service” again and was told they would not remove the second day charge because I had the car for 27 hours - because their franchisee would not take the car back within the 24 hour rental period!

Again, they refused to remove the charge, until I calmly threatened to contact my credit card company and do a chargeback. Finally, they agreed to remove the charge. I don’t have an issue with the woman who gave me incorrect info re: returning the vehicle - mistakes happen. My issue was fighting tooth and nail every step of the way to try to resolve this problem. It seems as if customer service training at Budget is to offer no service until threatened. Very poor way to run a business.

So anyway I get to the counter and try to rent a car. The woman is quick to take my money and has me and about 6 other people wait in what we named the penalty box. 45 min later my name is called and I’m sent over to get the car but before I go I show the lady that it’s much cheaper online. She replies, "This is a good price," and she says she will see what she can do. She then says once the bill comes in to call and the price will be adjusted. I’m 7 plus hours into this trip not to include the waiting time before my flight so I assume this is normal. Dumb on my part so I took the bait.

When I get my bill it’s double the advertised price. Which by the way I screenshot and kept in my phone just In case. So I call the 800 # and the rep says, "Oh you have to call them directly. It’s a privately owned branch." I call the branch and the exact words from the manager was, "There is nothing we can do." I then email Budget and call 2 times requesting a supervisor and a week later I still haven’t heard back. Look the $300 won’t change or affect my life in any shape or form. it’s the principle and the dirty tactics they used. Oh and after researching the company they have a price match guarantee. Well let’s just say is total b.s. because that’s all I’m asking for it for them to match their own online price. Hopefully this will save someone some money and maybe even cost Budget some money.

Horrible roadside assistance. I was left stranded on the NY State Thruway in freezing temps because the rep called the wrong tow company. That was after she wasted time asking me inane questions after I told her my cell was about to die such as, "Did you try to turn the car off and on again? Did you turn the car off, take the key out and make sure the car is in park, and try to turn it back on again?" I told her to begin with that I lost the ability to accelerate WHILE I was driving!

A State Trooper came along about 30-40 minutes later and figured out the rep called the incorrect tow company. He had a tow truck there within 15 minutes. I was towed to the nearest exit where after plugging my phone in the trucks port I called Budget again to inform them that I had been towed by a different company and my whereabouts so they could send a replacement vehicle. I was on hold too long, the driver said he could not wait any longer. He impounded the vehicle and left me at the truck stop.

After an almost hour hold I was told that since the car was impounded it was going to be my responsibility to call Budget's Impound Dept to give the details of the car's location. That dept was closed for the day. So I was left at a truck stop with no vehicle, in freezing temps, after the sun had set. I had been home to help with my grandmother who was just diagnosed with cancer. I was to take her to the following morning to an oncology appointment, I was an hour away. I had to call a family member, locally, to come get me. The following morning I had to get up extremely early to get to the airport in an attempt to get another vehicle, drive an hour, pick up my grandmother, and get her to the appointment.

Getting a new vehicle was not smooth either. The rep at Budget's Impound Dept was clueless. She told me it would be 2-3 days for the paperwork to be processed for me to be given another car! I corrected her and told her all she had to do was called the company that towed me, verify where the car is, and give me a replacement. Was I really expected to wait 2-3 days! This was all handled less than poorly! To top it all off, I was offered no compensation of any kind.

I recently rented a car from Budget at the Orlando, Florida airport. The Budget representative asked all the usual questions to try to get me to purchase additional insurance, electronic toll device, no-refill gas fee (so I don't need to fill tank, etc.), car upgrade, etc. I declined all of them since I know this is how they make extra money. When I got the bill I was charged an additional $140 for insurance coverage. When I contested it after I received the bill, they said it was too late, because I signed the contract (which is basically a line on a tablet device that they have you sign at the counter after they create the contract supposedly based on what you they asked you and how you responded).

Even though I verbally declined everything, the Budget Car representative added insurance coverage. The moral of the story is, do not trust the Budget Car representative. They will intentionally add services in the hope that you do not read the fine print and once you sign the "contract" it means you agree to everything. Before you sign, ask the Budget car representative to show you on the contract where it says that insurance was declined, gas service was declined, electronic toll device was declined, etc. Go through every item before signing. My mistake and lapse in judgement was in trusting them. If you read reviews on Budget, it's case after case of swindling customers with unexpected charges.

In the past, I rented an AVIS car (AVIS owns Budget) in Vancouver, Canada and the representative tried to sell me their other services. After I declined everything, he murmured to his assistant in his native language, "We can't fool him. He knows." He didn't know that I understood what he said since I speak their language. I wish some government authority would crack down on these companies that scam their customers, much like what recently happened to a large well-known bank. I hope this review will prepare potential customers of Budget and Avis on what could happen to them if they aren't vigilant.

Two hours before I am to leave to go out of town I have no car and was only told that they’ll give me a refund that would take 3 to 5 business days to return to my card. Now I’m not only without a car. I have no money to get another rental car.

Budget has the worst customer service ever. It is outsource somewhere out of the country. They do not make sure that they have inventory before they rent you cars and let you reserve cars online. Please never pre-pay for a Budget car Online. Is better to go in person and wait and pay when you get there because they would take your money then try to charge you a cancellation fee when they didn’t even have any inventory to give me a car. One of the worst experiences of my life. I would never ever use Budget again.

Wish I would have read the reviews for this crooked company prior to renting. Rented a Mazda CX-5 via Spokane airport Feb, 2019. Great car and everything went fine until I received an email two weeks after our trip stating I was being charged for a crack in the windshield which if there was one, never occurred within our rental period. Wrote the company explaining we had no knowledge of this damage. They replied two days later stating their records are aligned with the damage and I would be charged the $300 on the credit card used for the rental. What a rip-off company. Will never give Budget or Avis (same company) my business in the future.

My husband and I visited Texas from January 30 - February 2, 2019. We flew into Austin, TX late on January 30. I had reserved a vehicle (Chevy Malibu) for a pickup on January 31 from the Austin Bergstrom International and a drop-off for February 2 at Killeen-Fort Hood Regional airport. My original total was for $183.63 at $61.21 per day. I dropped the car off roughly around 0900 with a full tank of gas in the designated parking lot with the keys in the cup holder as such the morning of February 2. Please keep in mind, my husband and I flew out of this same airport that afternoon; our flight departed at 0355. To my surprise roughly a week or two later, I happen to check my statement and I have been charged $654.20. I immediately contact Budget to inquire about this, to which they inform me that I extended my rental by one week and that is the reason for the up-charge.

I explain to them when I left, I sent them our boarding passes, flight itinerary, any documents requested they received; after review they admitted to making a mistake and would refund me. However, they only refunded me $260.67 and sent me a receipt in the amount of $393.53. I begin to inquire about the remaining funds that should have been refunded as well... THEY NEVER RESPONDED TO MY INQUIRY and still to this day, almost 2 months later I still never had this issue resolved.

I filed a dispute with the credit card company who credited me for the account then after sending all my documentation also stated this was not enough to substantiate the claim. So I basically paid for a $183.63 car rental approximately 5 times all because this company made a mistake to which they openly admitted. By all means, please refrain from doing business with this organization. I am so disgusted with the manner in which they conducted this transaction. It has taken everything in me to not curse during this review.

What a joke! We were renting 3 cars that we reserved online. When we went to pick up the cars they didn't have the vans that we reserved online. Put us in 3 other cars that had no luggage capacity so we had to load up other cars to transport luggage. 1 car had no gas in it and wasn't clean. We dealt with it since we were supporting a team and had to get on the road. The 2nd car was getting the windshield fixed when we picked it up and now upon the return they want to charge me for a crack they found in the window. Our coach said he used to rent from this location but quit due to various issues. Oh, the 3rd car was fine minus the fact it wasn't what we ordered and didn't get upgraded.

When I told the renter about the window being fixed when we picked up the cars she was pretty much non responsive and just asked me to fill out a report on how the damage happened. When we picked up the car it had a dent in the hood from a previous rental. You'd think they'd have this fixed. You know they charged the person who brought it back with the damage the money to fix it. I rent over 20+ times a year and will never go back to Budget.

My car pick up experience for March 13 was disorganized and took forever. It was spring break. I understand the challenges of a large volume of customers. However no one seemed to understand the process. Many of us were told to wait for our cars to be brought up to the drive which never happened. I found my car on my own and went on my way. Given the poor service I confirmed twice that their shuttle would be running at the time of my very early morning departure flight. They assured me this was a 24/7 operation.

So imagine my surprise when at 3:15 a.m. I arrived to find gates locked, instruction signage incorrect and was told by the clerk that the shuttle had taken a one-hour break. I told her I had specifically asked ahead of time about the timing and she said it would be back at 4:15. Not very helpful when you have a 5 a.m. flight. During this time, I met up with a family of six who was in the same boat and actually on my same flight. Altogether there were 10 of us who had been told the shuttle would be available and were left on the sidewalk at 3:20 a.m. trying to make Uber/taxi arrangements while the clerk chatted with her friend at the counter.

I had reserved the vehicle for 6 days, mostly just to drive to/from TPA because our arrival & departure times were very late/early to get a ride from relatives. The car then was dead on the 3rd day we went to use it again. We charged the battery, but still was dead. Had to have vehicle towed away & since we were very far from location of another vehicle & were just going to drive it back to TPA again; I told them I didn't want another car. Budget still charged me the FULL amount for the 6 day rental. I had called road assistance, customer service, spoke with local TPA office, manager/supervisor. I was on the phone for hours (including on hold), was given a claim number; but found out 10 days later that the full amount was still charged to my credit card. And no one with Budget ever called me back to follow-up on claim, I had to call them several times after.

I'm not sure how you are exactly going to schedule a car rental time based on flight landings being early or delayed and no one explained that during the rental process or pick up time. Also the front passenger door did not lock from the inside or outside so we were not comfortable keeping any of our items in the vehicle during travel including the trunk. On Feb 14th, 2019, I booked a car rental for one week from Feb 21st to March 1st in that same year. The total for the booking was $327.77 which was charged at the time of the booking on Feb 14th. When I arrived at my destination in Cincinnati (CVG) on February 21st, I was asked if I wanted any car insurance. I replied that I was going to use the insurance that comes with the my credit card. When I got my paperwork I noticed that the amount was different ($430.86) but I assumed it was some kind of deposit hold. The agent did not explain anything he just told me where I needed to sign.

2 days later, on March 3rd, I checked my account and I noticed that I was charged both $327.77 and $430.86, but the $430.86 was pending in my account. But to be sure about it I called, 859-767-3132 (the number listed on my bill) to check and make sure there wasn't a problem. The person I spoke to about it told me that this was just a security deposit and that it would be returned at the end on the rental once the car was returned. His answer seemed reasonable to me so I didn't give it another thought. I returned the car on March 1st as agreed.

On Feb 23rd, I noticed that both the $327.77 (Feb 14th) and the $430.86 (March 1st) remained charged on my card. I then called customer care (1-800-527-7000) to ask why this was and I was then told that the $430.86 charge was for additional car insurance. I was also told that because I had sign the renter's agreement that I was not eligible for any refund. After pushing the issue forward to a supervisor in customer care, I was offered a conciliatory 50% of the additional car insurance back, which I accepted.

Here is my problem with the situation. I only ever expected to pay $327.77 for this rental. I also requested the clerk NOT to add any additional insurance to my rental. Finally, when I inquired about this to your clerk on Feb 23rd who obviously gave me incorrect information. I feels like there is malicious intent here to gouge me out of extra money. I agree that I signed the renter's agreement, but to be honest, I trusted your employees to follow my wishes and not charge me for something I didn't want or need.

To be honest, if I feel I have to read to the letter these agreements, which could be considered something close to "fine print" it means I can't trust your company to give me the basic services I am paying for so I wouldn't even bother giving you my business. At no time while I was on the phone with your customer care representative did common logic even matter because why would I want a $430.86 car insurance policy for a $327.77 car rental.

A friend of mine rented a car from Budget for our use while in the Tampa Florida area. We rented online as the rates for Budget were much cheaper than the others. This was done a month before we were due to arrive in Florida. We chose an offsite location thinking it would be cheaper than picking the car up at the airport. When we arrived to pick up the car there was a person waiting ahead of us. She advised us that when she arrived they did not have an economy car for her and they went out back to see if they had a car for her, it would be $10.00 a day more for her to rent.

Once it was our turn to pick up our car the exact same thing happened. We were told there were no economy cars and we were offered a car that was slightly larger but not cleaned out for an up charge of $10.00 a day. The guy at the desk offered to clean out the car while we waited. At that point someone else returned a car. That car was offered to us. It was a Hybrid and we were advised this car would give us better gas mileage. The car was not checked out or cleaned prior to us obtaining the car. We were charged the $10.00 a day surcharge due to the slightly larger car.

My question is when this happens and it appears to happen quite often why does Budget not honor the price that we originally were given? This was no fault of ours that Budget is renting cars that they do not have. This surcharge cost us $100.00 more after the taxes and fees were added. This is very poor business practice by Budget. I have rented from many different car agencies and have never had this happen before. At best we have been offered a larger car at the same cost that we agreed to online. I will never rent from Budget again!

When I reserved a car using Budget’s German website, it told me that the estimated total charges would be $523 and it confirmed that I had prepaid that amount. The only additional charges I expected were the charges for turnpike tolls and for fuel if I did not return the car with a full tank. When I arrived at the Budget counter in Miami, I was told that they wanted a $181 deposit that would be refunded to my card when I returned the car.

Unfortunately, the sign-off form I was provided and asked to initial included a checkmark for an optional package labeled “@NON PKG ITEMS” priced at $181. Being exhausted after a long flight and a 30+ minute wait at the counter, I did not realize that I had accepted an option that I did not want and just assumed that this was for the deposit that would be refunded to me. After several months of back and forth with their customer service, I was told that I had signed up for assistance in case I, for example, lost my car keys. They admonished me for not having read the rental agreement.

My honest impression is that the local Budget concession did this in order to increase revenues for their concession. Customers using Budget should be aware of this behavior and explicitly state that they are declining every option adding a handwritten note to the form saying that. Budget should take action against their Miami concession and should develop a better sign-off form that is more easily understood.

Our only option was to go to a different company and rent a pickup truck, which was more for one day than our entire trip we were quoted with Budget. We then went back to Budget the next day and were lucky enough that someone was returning a vehicle that we could get into. We were promised that we would be reimbursed for the one day rental with the other company as well as be reimbursed for the rental fees with Budget due to the inconvenience.

It's now been three months later and they still haven't even reimbursed the one day fee with the other company much less the rental fees with them. I've now had three months of interest on the credit card as well. I have sent them all the documents they have asked for in every kind of format available and they continue to tell me they are unable to open them. I'm at a loss as to what else I could do to get them the information. I would highly recommend avoiding this company due to the fact that it seems like my complaints are a common theme with other customers' reviews that I have come across.

I picked up a car from Budget Rental Car company Friday morning at 7am for my drive with my children from NY to Key West. By 4pm there were alarms going off that the car needed an oil change. Needless to say, I was not happy having paid months ago to rent a car for an 11 day trip from NY to Key West and back with 3 children, Budget maintenance should have ABSOLUTELY checked this vehicle before I picked it up for issues like this. So I called Budget who directed me to their roadside assistance number.

After 6 calls and over 86 minutes on the phone (my phone records will reflect this for accuracy), I was told that Budget will be dropping off a new vehicle to the hotel we were stopping at for the night, and will pick up the vehicle that needed an oil change. After 11 text messages from Budget that went on until 1:30am, I still had no replacement car. The next morning when there was still no car, we decided to continue to drive to our destination and call Budget back on the way. What ensued was an additional 13 phone calls, 11 more text messages and 227 more minutes of my vacation on the phone. I was told that Budget would again be sending another car to my next destination.

Needless to say, it never happened. So Sunday I spent more time on the phone. At 10:30 Sunday night a tow truck showed up to pick up the old vehicle- but lo and behold no replacement vehicle!!! The tow truck driver was yelling at me in Spanish in front of my children. He was rude and indignant. This led to yet ANOTHER phone call to Budget. I finally got a replacement vehicle at 11:55 at night. And you know what? The replacement vehicle had low tire pressure and the charging ports didn’t work. So, for a car that I paid for months prior, a vacation I had been planning and budgeting for over a year, I wound up spending over SIX HOURS and 22 text messages of it on the phone with the rental car company when I should have been spending it with my family. I contacted Budget on social media and they offered me a $200 refund on a rental that cost over $1000. I will never use Budget again.

They overcharged me, and blamed me for the overcharge. We were offered a free upgrade from John, and because he didn't note that, there was an extra charge on that. They also told me that because I had the car for over 24 hours they charge you for a second day. We literally dropped the car off early from when we agreed.

This company is a liar, and careless about their customers or service. Jimmy also claimed that the 24 hours policy is on their website, but I'm sorry I didn't see that anywhere. The manager was so heartless about the whole situation as well. Do yourself a favor and never use Budget, because they literally don't care, and will screw you over in the long run! I have had a terrible experience from beginning to end dealing with Budget. Starting with waiting in an hour long line to pick up our car and ending with rude customer service representatives. In the middle of my family's vacation our brand new 2019 Buick Enclave with 1114 miles on it broke down on the highway. It was overheating/leaking antifreeze and put us in a very dangerous situation trying to pull over to the side. My kids were very scared that we were going to get into an accident. Through much time and patience and trying several times unsuccessfully to get through to some roadside assistance help we were able to get to another Budget location. The car kept shutting down every mile or so due to overheating. After giving up about a day of our vacation we were finally in a different vehicle.

Upon returning our vehicle to the airport we saw we were charged over $400 what we originally agreed to pay. Again, we couldn't speak to anybody willing to help and the line to get to a representative looked to be about an hour long again. Having a flight to catch we could not wait that long. I called customer service today and after dealing with several apathetic and rude customer service representatives was able to get to some minor resolution, but not near to what I feel all the trouble was worth.

I gave up a day of my vacation dealing with a broken down brand new rental car. Vacations aren't cheap and giving up a day costs a whole bunch. I also gave up several hours the day after my vacation talking to customer service trying to resolve the issue that was given to me. On top of that, having to deal with rude and insulting representatives that gave me the run around on the phone made me feel like Budget could care less about me, the problem they gave me and trying to keep me even remotely happy as a paying customer. I don't know if that is how they want to be perceived as a company, but as of now that is my opinion. It has a been a severely disheartening and frustrating process from beginning to end.

Paid $205 on line to save money by paying up front for a small four door car. Got to O'Hare Budget counter and dealt with Angel. She took my credit card (I thought she was confirming it was me) and my license. Angel told me that in the class of car I had signed up for, there were no four door cars available and that my only choice was a VW beetle with two doors, no trunk. Suggested I upgrade to a four door, $10 more per day, to ensure I could fit all my luggage I had with me. So I did. I believed her. She charged me an additional $53.00. She said I was ready to go and covered by I-Pass. I said, "What does that mean?" She said they would cover the tolls, but there was an additional $19.00 initiation fee. I said I didn't want that as it didn't make any sense as I would not be going through that many tolls. She said to NOT open the white box on the windshield.

Had a hard time finding my car. Tipped a man from another car agency $5 to help me find my car. Got in the car and just to find the white box for the tollway already open. I closed it and was upset that they had the audacity to leave it open for an unsuspecting client. I was upset so I called Budget and explained I did not wish to pay the additional money for the four door car as that is what I originally paid for in the first place. And that I felt it was tricky that the I-Pass box was open. She said the only way I could get the $53.00 off my bill was to go back in and downgrade to the two door car. So off I went.

The service person got Angel for me. She said she was taking the $53.00 off my bill and downgrading me to the two door (since they did not have any four door cars in my class available). I said I needed someone to meet me at the car where I had left my luggage locked in the trunk to relocate to the new car. She said she would send someone. I go to the car to wait. No one shows up. Finally, a nice man from Budget walked by and I asked if he was there to assist me. He said no, but that he'd be happy to. He then helped me with my luggage. And to my surprise and utter amazement and disgust, there WAS a four door car available for me in the class for which I signed up! I got a four door KIA.

By then, I was livid. I phoned Budget. Explained the whole situation and said how upset I was. The rep on the phone said he would take care of my additional funds paid. I had no idea what he meant as I thought Angel inside had already done that. I asked "how much are you refunding to me." He said $254 and some cents. I was stunned! I had already paid $205 at the beginning of January so I could have a reduced rate. I was beyond upset. I filed a complaint with him at that time.

I return my car on the following Sunday. The girl checked me in and I came home. On Monday, I called my credit card company just to find Budget had charged me an additional $233.00. The credit card rep was super nice and got Budget on the phone. They told both of us that the charges would be cancelled within the next three to five business days. Yes, they did refund my money.

Moral of this story? Do not trust anyone when travelling. Double check your credit cards. When someone says something simple like "Budget will pay your tolls and charge you for them"... ask more questions. Angel did NOT offer to tell me there was a $19.00 fee associated with that. I had to ask. She also told me there was NOT a four door car in the class in which I signed up. I guess that was her way of making more money for either the company or herself. I have idea how that works.

My experience with Budget definitely put a damper on my trip. Will they care? Probably not. They have thousands of clients. I'm nothing to them. I simply travel once in awhile and have used them in the past. So, beware folks! This was my experience. I hope none of us endure this kind of bad business practices now or in the future.

They told us to go somewhere else to change it but there is no guarantees and they didn’t even bother to call and make sure they had a vehicle. Never using this company again! Then I called the 1800 customer service number and spoke with Dana and she tried calling the Miami airport location but they were busy and couldn’t pick up so she pretty much told me to call myself. I had to cancel my road trip because they didn’t have the car.

On December 27, 2018 my friend and I rented a car at the Budget Car Rental near the LAX airport without a reservation. We were renting it for less than 24 hours; just to drive up to San Luis Obispo and return the car there where we would meet a friend. As we were working with the employee at the counter, she advised us that the car would cost us approximately $200.00. That price seemed VERY HIGH for just one day! The employee suggested we get the coverage that would allow us to turn the car in without a full tank of gas. When she told us the total cost of $324.02, we were both extremely shocked! When we asked her why she was charging such an exorbitant amount, she said "because it's a holiday and this is the holiday pricing".

We were really at a disadvantage because we had no other way of getting a car to drive to San Luis Obispo. So, we begrudgingly agreed to pay the outlandish price of $324.02! I called the customer service line and was told I had to submit my complaint by e-mail. So I sent an e-mail and got no reply. I sent another e-mail and still got no reply. Now I am going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. I will NEVER rent a vehicle from Budget again and I hope you don't either!

I came in to get my Budget Rental Car at the LA California Airport location. Attending the Grammy Awards Show 2/10/2019. I was getting a full size car thru my Costco rental agent. The pre-arranged cost for the entire package was $212.91 total which included insurance for 2 drivers. The agent at Budget talked me into was suppose to be a $30 upgrade to a Jaguar for my 5 day rental. I said ok because the upgrade cost was nominal.

Now I get a bill for $800 charged to my credit card. I call into Budget and I am told the charge is correct because of the insurance coverage for this upscaled car. The agent never told me the SO-CALLED BUDGET CAR INSURANCE COVERAGE would be an extra charge over the previous inclusive quoted price. If I had known I would have stuck to the original full size rental. I was clearly told by the agent the full rental price for the car with everything included would be $350.00. This is deceptive advertising and I will be sure to let the BBB and all of my friends know not to use Budget for their car rentals. As before I will only rent from Enterprise because the price they quote is the price you pay.

Updated on 03/11/2019: Reserved a car through Budget a month in advance. Got a call the day before rental to confirm we still wanted the car. Got to vacation destination and we were told there were NO cars available. They told us some should be coming in. After waiting an hour, no cars came. We were then told there were no cars available in the area at all. Not a good way to start my vacation. I was beyond upset. Girls behind the counter were rude and using vulgar language. I am was able to secure a car through Enterprise which I was compensated for the difference.

I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Was called by a James ** who stated I could in addition get a three day car rental coupon. Why would I rent a car from a place that had no value for its customers. James never responded to the dissatisfaction with their resolution. I will definitely never deal with Budget Rentals again. After speaking with numerous people, they had bad service as well. My hope is that they will have to eventually close their doors due to this unspeakable service.

Original Review: Reserved my car over a month ago. While in a different state, went to pick up my car. It was for a 1:00 rental. I arrived at 1:15. They had no cars at all. Let me remind you, I reserved the car over a month ago. They said there were no cars in the area. They even called the night before to confirm the rental. They seemed to care very little that I needed a car. I made several phone calls and still no car. Finally called Enterprise. Not only did they get me a car immediately, they came and picked us up. I would not recommend this company ever. It was off Fowler street in Fort Myers, Florida. The staff had little care at all for how upset I was. They sat behind the counter using derogatory language. Mind you, this was two woman. Such a stressful, disappointed situation. We will never use them again.

I started using Budget around 2003, and they were once my go-to rental company. They have steadily declined, since around 2010, to the point where my past rental experience was so bad I will never use them again. I had reserved a car months in advance for a recent trip, and I arrived at the counter around 2:15 for my 2:00 reservation. I was picking up from the “fast” break “key pick up line”, and the line was extremely long, and there were dozens of people standing around on the other side of the booth. I talked to some people in front of me and found out that people were waiting hours for their cars. It was pretty clear they had over-reserved because what they were doing was washing cars as they came in and then delivering the keys to the waiting masses.

They had no clue what they were doing, and were basically making each “next customer” wait before processing them if the mass of people who had been processed was too large. What made it worse was there was no consideration for fast break members vs the normal line downstairs, so I found out talking to some other people they only had to wait a total of about 2 hours while I waited over 3. I wasn’t processed until around 5:15, and then finally got a car around 5:45 (3.5 hours after arriving). To compound things, on return they charged me $300 more than the rate because I picked up the car more than 2 hours after my reservation time. Really? I wonder why? What a circus. It took me 3 calls to get the over-charge refunded.

I love Budget Rent-A-Car. They are my favorite Rent-A-Car company. Perfect prices, good customer service and my favorite part is that not only do they have good cars, but the cars aren't the base trim. They are always top of the line or near top of the line trims. I have no complaints, maybe just a minor nit-pick and that is they should try to get more cars with sunroofs. Only like the more expensive cars (Volvo XC90, GMC Yukon XL, etc) have sunroofs. But that doesn't matter, I rented 13 cars from them last year (2018) and now in 2019 I'm already by the 3rd one. I love Budget! I hope they never change.

I can't speak for all Budgets, but if my experience is any indication (I rented from Budget in Overland Park, KS/Kansas City metro area) and after seeing another few reviews for the same location and being slapped with a bill several weeks after renting, I've come to the conclusion that Budget in Overland Park has a fraud scheme going on. Based on what happened to me, it goes like this: They want you to buy their additional insurance, just like every other rental company pushes. If your own insurance covers rentals and you decline, they'll make you go wayyy out of your way to prove that you are insured, and we're talking calling up your insurance company on the phone in their presence to prove it. (This is what they did to me after seeing my insurance card.) I’ve rented from 6-7 rental car companies and not a single one has ever made me do this.

Budget staff won't mark ANY of the pre-existing scratches on the contract prior to handing it to you for the walk-around (they won’t go with you for this part). There'll be an obvious scratch or two that is pre-existing and not on the sheet. (Why would that be, other than to try to scam you?) I suspect that either a prior renter with Budget’s insurance damaged the car in a hard to see area (and Budget couldn't charge that customer as a result), or Budget will scratch it themselves in an area they think you won't check, such as the lower bumper area, which is hard to see unless your face is up close to the bumper on the lower side.

You probably won’t get on your knees to check every inch of the car (especially low and hard-to-see bumper areas) and Budget is counting on this. You’ll drive your car without incident, and upon return, they’ll suddenly find the scratch as if they knew exactly where to look (i.e. a note on the account). You’ll be told, "It looks like you hit a car." You’ll fill out a useless form with your testimony and be told “if you don’t get a phone call from us in the next week, don’t worry about it.” A month later, in the mail, you’ll receive a bill from their Atlanta national office for damages/repairs/fees. All of this happened to me, and because I’ve seen a few other complaints from this same location on Yelp, I suspect this happens more often than we know. Do not trust Budget for your rentals if they’re willing to commit fraud against paying customers! I will make sure everyone I know avoids Budget like the plague.

When we arrived we were subjected to persistent up-selling in an attempt to get us to upgrade for $20 per day to have a vehicle with snow tyres. We rejected this and also the additional insurance to cover a $500 deductible. Once we were given the keys to the vehicle we loaded up and went on our way. We didn’t notice any damage to the vehicle nor where we invited to inspect the vehicle. Indeed we were made to sign a contract which claimed the vehicle had no damage BEFORE we were shown where the vehicle was parked.

When we returned the vehicle a week later the man at the Budget desk inspected the vehicle and claimed there was damage to the underside of the plastic trim at the rear of the vehicle. I have no way of knowing whether he damaged the vehicle during his inspection or even if the damage had been there all along. In my opinion Budget Rent-A-Car have deliberately defrauded me of $500. While there, I witnessed, a very rude and arrogant customer complaining about the prices. He proceeded to talk down to the rep as if the rep created the price list. He either wanted something free/price reduction and thought being loud would work - or - he is just a disrespectful person that needs to learn some manners.

Either way, kudos to Nathan, and the manager that had to get involved, for remaining professional and courteous. I did not have the same patience as they did and after the man looked at me and tried to get me involved, I said what every other person within hearing distance wanted to say to him - but I won’t repeat it here. Anyway, I’ve never had a negative experience with Budget and employees are always super nice, especially at Phoenix and San Antonio Airports. The sales staff kept trying to sell an upgrade. The insurances were greater than the car rental. Returned the car with half the full it was given to us at. Was charged the refueling of a whole tank at $9.89 USD per gallon. Total overprice and exploitation. $140 USD to fill a Kia Soul.

Have had to make 3 phone calls and send about 7 emails just to get them to acknowledge the car was not full of fuel when we received it as per their documents so the fuel charge should be less. Apparently the contract they have state you will be charged a full tank of fuel when it is not returned the same but mine does not state that, however this is my problem. NEVER IN MY LIFE AGAIN WOULD I RENT FROM BUDGET ANYWHERE. This also means Avis as they are the same company. Rented from Enterprise also on this trip and had a totally opposite experience. When I arrived at the counter to pick up the car, I was told they didn't have the type I had reserved but would upgrade me to a Jeep and waive the additional fee. The agent never went over any itemized costs, just had me sign on the credit card terminal. I was given some paperwork folded up in an envelope, which I now realize I should have gone over right then.

The car was fine, I returned it at the end of my trip, and headed back to the airport. Once I got home, I checked my credit card statement and realized they had charged me the full price for the different vehicle which ended up being over double my original estimate. I then checked the paperwork I was given which included an itemized invoice that did not have the waived upgrade fee.

I got in contact with Budget customer service thinking it was a simple mistake with the counter agent and they would refund the extra charges. Instead, I was repeatedly told that it didn't matter what the agent said, since I had accepted the upgraded car and signed an electronic invoice that I never saw before signing, I was responsible for the full charges. They refused to refund the additional charges and told me there was no negotiation on that. I've even tried to dispute the charges with my credit card, but had no luck since I have no proof of what their counter agent told me. I agreed to call and request an extension at by day specified and I made that call to a LOCAL branch two days before the deadline and was relieved to have reached a very pleasant counter agent who informed me their computers had gone down so she had to take my info by hand and enter it when they came back up which I learned when returning the vehicle apparently did not occur.

Two weeks prior to returning the vehicle, unable to reach anyone online at Budget's corporate office, I had to settle for writing a letter of grievance to the co's customer service dept in hopes the individuals involved might be held accountable. The only response I received was an apologetic form letter the next day. The rental car I had reserved two days before picking it up was dirty. I had to have it jump started by strangers on three separate occasions. In spite of that fact it was returned spotless, with a full tank of gas.

Because the local agent could find no record of my request for an extension he refused to provide me with a receipt stating if have to take the matter up with the office of origin. I requested to speak to a manager and waited over an hour while he called around trying to find one who promised an immediate call back while I was still there. That call never came but I was finally presented with a receipt. Frustrated, needing to go pick up my son, only later while looking over my invoice did I notice I had been charged a $400 late fee!? When I wrote to question these outrageous charges I was 'gifted' $100 refund!

After everything I had been forced to endure at the hands of this agency while trying to recover from the loss of everything I own, this feels like outright thievery. What other recourse do I have? I'm filing this complaint as a matter of principle. It has little to do with money me everything to do with finding a little justice. It seems no one is EVER accountable.

Having no option I downgraded to a small vehicle just to be able to drive home as no one else was available on such short notice. To my surprise, Budget will not refund the difference even though it was three times as much. On top of that I was two hours late turning the car in, and they charged me a whole additional day. If I could give this company negative stars, I would. Unacceptable, fraudulent business practices. I rented a car in Nov 2018 from the airport in Knoxville TN for a 2 day span, to be dropped at the airport in Memphis. I agreed to a charge of $190 and thought no more of it. I have always rented from Enterprise through Costco but they had no one way rentals when I needed one.

Upon checking my credit card account online about 2 weeks later the charge applied to my account by Budget was $860. I called Budget billing and was told the upcharge was because I modified my agreement and dropped the car off in New Orleans!! I assured her I most certainly did not drop the car off in New Orleans - how would I get home to my Memphis suburb? Nothing I said registered with her, she just kept insisting in broken English that she explain the charges to me. I told her I didn't care because it was incorrect.

After a few more minutes of arguing I told her she had the serial number, corporate number, etc there on the agreement so perform a rental history of the unit and ascertain from where it was next rented. She came back on the line in a few minutes and said with a straight face that it was rented out in Memphis 2 hours after it was returned to New Orleans. Add to that the out/in mileage indicated the 300 miles to Memphis, not 600 miles which would have been on the odometer if I traveled to New Orleans. They are going to 'investigate' the discrepancy.

I also contacted my CC company who issued me a credit for the overcharge. I contacted Costco Travel who was very upset about the poor customer service and business practices. I submitted all the documentation and a letter of explanation to them and they are going to investigate. They said this does not meet their high standards. Hope they drop Budget as a corporate partner. Regardless, I will never do business with Budget again.

Rented a car from Budget in Las Vegas Nevada. When we came to pick up our reservation, the rep told us that they did not have any cars and told us come back later. When we returned they gave us Kia Soul. While driving from Las Vegas to Kanab (a 3 hour drive on a highway) the gas tank was empty - as if this was not an economy car. The next morning we were unable to start the car - even after trying to give it a boost. We called Budget and waited all day in the middle of nowhere with minus 25 degrees outside.

Close to 9 pm we received a replacement car (Kia Rio). When returning the car to the Las Vegas airport, we were billed for $2575 "For towing service". When arranging for the replacement car, nobody from Budget (neither customer service nor roadside assistance) told us about any additional charges. This scum business practice - they are giving you a faulty car and then charge you when the car breaks and you have no choice and need a replacement vehicle. DO NOT DEAL WITH BUDGET EVER - I KNOW I WON'T.

Very unsatisfactory service experience at Budget rental airport location today. I did online transaction to reserve vehicle today, everything went through ok online as I received a reservation # to pick the vehicle up. After arriving to the airport to pick the vehicle up, the Budget directed me down to the Avis counter where she informed me that they keep the keys??? But ok. The rep at the Avis counter informed me that she need to see my driver's license and credit card. I handed her both only to be told that they do accept Visa debit. I informed her that the money had already been devoted to my account. She just informed me that she was sorry about that and I would have to call main office to get a refund or be transferred to different location to pick up the vehicle.

The main office informed me that it would be an additional 32 dollars to pick up vehicle from the alternate location, but seemed unsure if it was daily or one time fee so I told him to just cancel and refund my money. I was then put on hold for 20-25 minutes only to be told that 1/2 my money would be returned in 48 hours and the other 1/2 would be returned in 3-4 days. Wow, that sucks. He further informed me that I would also receive notice of a cancellation fee, but assured me that I would not be charged for this and receive a full refund. Fingers crossed. Very unsatisfactory experience. Unfortunate.

I reserved a car in Asheville, North Carolina. I had called them the day prior to my arrival to confirm that the SUV that I rented had 4WD. They assured me that it did. When I arrived, I was told that they did not have a 4WD SUV in the “class” of vehicle that I rented, and tried to charge me some exorbitant rate. I stuck to my guns and the gave me an “upgraded” vehicle for the same price. The challenging part of this came when I returned the vehicle. The day I was due to return the vehicle, we had a severe winter storm. All the flights leaving Asheville had been cancelled. When I called, the day before, I was told that the rental car agency never closed and that I needed to return the vehicle that day or I would be charged an additional $330.00. I reserved a second vehicle from them through Hotwire, a 4WD Yukon, for $160.00, the night before, for a one way trip to Tampa, just in case we were snowed in the next day.

As a result of the prior day's conversation, I was forced to drive through very treacherous conditions to return the car that I had rented. It usually takes 1 1/2 hours to drive from our house to the airport in Asheville. That day it took us 3 1/2 hours, on icy roads, in blinding snow. Asheville had already had 12 inches of snow, and it was continuing to snow. We arrived at the airport only to find that the car that I reserved was not there. I was told that they could close out the prior rental and they would reopen a second rental for the same vehicle. Their computer system was down and I was issued a contract that had nothing written on it.

As there were no prices or fees on the contract, I asked the sales associate what I would be charged. She informed me that I would be charged $61.00 for the additional day’s rental, per my original contract. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I returned the car to the Tampa Airport location. There was no one at the Budget kiosk so I asked a security guard what the procedure was for a return in this situation. He informed me to just park the car and leave the keys on the dash, which is exactly what I did. Well, that was a huge mistake.

Budget has apparently lost the car and I received a certified letter from them demanding that I return the car, which I do not have. Budget has charged my credit card all kinds of arbitrary fees. The only thing that they haven’t charged was the agreed upon $61.00. As far as I’m concerned, they are guilty of credit card fraud, bait and switch, and extortion. I fully plan on turning the issue over to the State Attorney General's office for possible prosecution, as well as filing a class action lawsuit.

We called local office x3 and they never answered. After 2 hours of waiting for shuttle, we decided to Uber to the local office. Called customer service an additional 3x while in line, I was told to go to another downtown location, which if we choose to do so, will be in our own cost for transportation to get there and there is no guarantee the new location will have a car for us.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing, recorded the entire calls, will be available on YouTube in few days, since THEY record calls and disclaimer noted "This call may be monitored or recorded for quality assurances purposes." May these calls provide them with some guidance for improvement. Customer representatives were rude and dismissive as you will hear in the call records.

My rental car with Budget had a bad battery from the factory. In fact, it died TWICE while renting the car for 5 days for a total of 2 hours lost. Not only did they NOT offer to compensate me for my time, but they actually charged me $60 to have their roadside assistance come out and help. When I explained to the technician that came out to help me, he told me it's a known scam they run in order to get as much out of people as possible. They offer their own roadside insurance, but if you decline it then you get stuck paying. But what they DON'T tell you, is that you're covered FOR FREE through the car's manufacturer warranty.

The second time when the battery died (as if that weren't bad enough), I called Kia's roadside assistance and it was completely free. Then, when I turned in the car, I willingly opted to pay their re-fueling fee just because I didn't want to stop at a gas station. However, when they gave me my billed they double-taxed me. Not only did I pay the built-in gas tax that everyone that fills their tank gets hit with, but then they taxed me again on top of that because it was an "additional service." Which of course, they don't tell you when you rent it either. I will never ever never rent from Budget again. I'd love to pay more money for a more trustworthy company with better ethics.

Absolutely do not rent with Budget. I rented a car for a 3-day weekend in Vermont, after prepaying online more than a month in advance. Upon returning the car (a bit before my "due" time), I handed the keys and paperwork to the employee at the Budget desk in the airport (instead of just dropping the items off in an unlocked box, as I had seen other customers returning their respective items). I asked him if I needed to do anything else and he said "no."

A few weeks later, I received a $400 bill in the mail stating that I had not returned the car for nearly a week past my reservation time, with over 1,000 miles clocked. (It also stated listed a male employee's name for the person who initially rented the car to me, despite a woman with a different name being at the Budget desk at that time.)

It took weeks of calling the Budget office to get them to address this error -- constantly being told that management would look into it and call me back. They never called me back. Finally, after weeks of calling, I was told that the case had been closed out and I didn't need to pay anything. (How generous.) However, the employee refused to send me any sort of written confirmation that I did not owe anything. I'm still hesitant to believe them at their word that this matter is truly resolved. Again, do not ever rent with Budget.

On a recent trip to Chicago in early November, I had prepaid a minivan to transport disabled relatives of mine. The initial counter interaction after arriving at the brand new car rental structure was great. Had my reservation in hand, said the vehicle requested was on floor-row-space. I signed away and left. Found 1 blemish larger than 50c piece, notated at gate and left.

At 7 am on the day I was to return the van, I called and spoke with a rental agent asking for additional time and associated cost. Here’s where it really takes a strange turn... I gave him my vehicle ID, was then greeted as “Mr **”, how was your rental van in Maryland? I’m not Mr ** nor am I in Maryland. This went on for approx 15min until corrected. I was then granted a drop off at 11pm vs the original 7pm knowing I couldn’t make my original drop off time. No worries, taken care of, no extra charge. Great!

I made it to the rental car facility at O’Hare by 2302 (11:02), didn’t charge a late fee, even though I fully expected it), but DID charge me extra for every little bell & whistle I didn’t request nor utilize! More than 2.5x’s the original prepaid agreement... which I signed but didn’t notate the additional equipment clause. Bad for me but no way in hell! After 1.5hrs, the shift manager took the extra charges off and I was off to hotel via bus to airport. After waking up the following AM (got to a hotel by 0400), I realized I had left my jacket in the back of the van. Called 800 line and counter at O’Hare. Made a claim for lost item. Unlike most rental return customers, I was still in the area! So I Ubered to O’Hare and went to counter, initially greeted by upper manager (didn’t know at that time) who directed me to the 2nd floor counter. The young lady working counter & lot was understanding and tried to be helpful.

Long story short, my jacket was found, taken to the “old facility” and with no less than 12 employees... Nobody was able, OR willing, to help retrieve. Excuse, top national management was in town, no way to get over and only 1 person had key to gate and they were too busy. All that management, massive rental prices, not 2 cares on how to retrieve personal property! It has been 1.5 months from that day and I still haven’t had 1 email or returned call!

I promise for the remainder of my life to never spend another dollar with this company or any affiliated! Downright disgusting and pathetic. Coincidentally I left my glasses at the counter on the return night, was one of 3 people in entire main rental floor and was there for 1hr after fixing transaction. Went unnoticed by counter staff... Lost those too. Cost me more to replace needed items going home. Thanks for the memories Budget @ O’Hare!

    a) They automatically start charging a daily fee for the transponder after it has been used once.
    b) There is no alternative to using their transponder, or at least these were never presented as options at any point.

    c) No one could explain what product/service I was getting for the $3.95 per each day that I did not get on a tollway at all.

Their only excuse for this nonsense is that "it's in the contract you signed," which while legally valid is a pathetic point and bad faith gesture since they are banking on no one having the time to read those in full, and it's extra confusing given that they go out of their way to talk about insurance and gas prices, but they never mention the toll fee at all. Then, the clerk told me that I needed to provide a new card for "incidentals" such as tolls, tickets, etc. However, when I dropped off the car, I noticed that they had charged me the equivalent of my initial rental payment and no one knew or could understand what this charge was for.

When I arrived home from my trip, I called their national customer service, which clearly is located outside of the US and staffed by very poor English speaking employees, who also could not tell me what this charge was for, but refused to remove the charges. And, their bills are so confusing to a point that they make absolutely no sense...perhaps to ensure that their fraudulent charges can never be disputed. Needless to say... this company is at best unorganized and shady. At worst, they are just outright crooks. Beware!

Budget Rent-A-Car at the Orlando airport overcharged my credit card because they added insurance after I told them I did not need it because we had full coverage. They also did not have record where I said I wanted the insurance. I will be disputing with my bank but when I called the rep to tell them it was a mistake he responded by saying, "Nothing can be done once it’s charged." I had to pay 275.00 for a 4 day rental due to the fact they added the insurance and charged 5.00 for gas after we returned the car with a full tank. They try to overcharge because you are at a popular site like Orlando. Stay away from Budget and tell your friends to do the same. Go to Enterprise - much better customer service and they do not cheat you out of your money. Be aware if you go to Budget.
