    Reviewed Nov. 3, 2025

Monday, Nov 3, 2025. *WARNING*WARNING*WARNING. STAY AWAY. RUN. HIDE. FROM: MR. TIRE in NEWTON, NC. 2323 Northwest Blvd. Newton, NC 28658. Tel. # (828) 464-2434. Two female family members recently went into Mr. Tire in Newton, Catawba County, NC, to have her newly purchased battery from a different retailer get installed. The battery compartment in her vehicle is located behind the front passenger's seat. It's around 15 minutes to swap on a bad day. On this vehicle, it's moving the floor mat, removing 2 screws from the cover to get to the battery, and unscrewing the battery safety crossbar that keeps it from moving. Disconnect the positive and negative cables. Removing the old battery, putting in the new one. Applying the battery gel that was also with the new battery and tightening the safety bar, cables, battery/ floor cover, and placing the floor mat over it. That’s it!!

"And for her to get a shocking bill of 100.00 dollars!!' Actually was for like $95.00 and change. But still. This outrageous charge!? I then went back to Mr. Tire to speak to them. There were 2 guys at the counter. I was only dealing with one of them. The other one was sitting to the side. Looking uninterested in our conversation. I first asked if they offer any military discount. He said NO! While I'm talking. The other guy sitting to the right side goes back to the garage area and quickly calls his assistant manager, **, and gossips about what's going on. Very unprofessional. It looked more like when a baby goes to mommy and cries that the other kids are touching his toys! So, while the guy I'm dealing with is talking to (so-called, not-ready-for-prime-time supervising, **), his boss. His boss already knew what was going on and said, "That was the price", bab, bab, bab, "There's nothing he can do about it", bab, bab, bab, etc., etc.

They weren't willing to work something out, meet halfway, 'NOTHING'. They were happy to have been able to take advantage of 2 vulnerable ladies, who didn't know anything about cars, and didn't think that they would be ripped off. I would just recommend going to someone else. Where they will treat you with respect, decency, and most importantly, without "Malicious Intent"! The staff here at Mr. Tire in Newton are unprofessional, ill-equipped to handle customers' complaints, issues, and/ or concerns. They don't give a damn about you!

And to the so-called "make-believe I-will-pray-for-you" assistance manager, **. I hope you're able to sleep at night knowing what you're doing to the innocent people who walk into Mr. Tire, thinking they'll be treated fairly and charged a decent price. You and your goons, sadly to say, didn't just cross the line. "You erase it"! Pat yourself on the back, why don't you? Not an unsatisfied customer. No! I pity all of you for your low, low standards. And what you do to your customers!

My concern: I don't believe I have EVER written a bad review on any company! I am aware that people may not always tell the truth. In my own profession, I have been lied on online and mistakenly named in a business review as we had similar names. I pondered highly whether to post publicly because of this. For those reasons, I will not publicize the locations or names, but I can provide pics and names, if I do not receive a proper and appropriate response from the corporate office. Why didn't I just call the customer service/corporate office number first? In my experience with other corporate offices, it is likely that the local teams portray unethical practices because this is how they are trained. I hope it is different with Mr. Tire/Monro Auto Repair.

What happened? I use both stores: Monro/Mr. Tire. For the most part, when the manager of Monro Auto (who has attended to me several times over 13 years), I do not have problems. If something seems wrong, he will fix it! --My last visit in his store took place when he was out. --As a result, my breaks were fixed... My "change oil" light came on shortly afterwards and they did not have availabilities' for a longer period of time that I could chance waiting. I reluctantly returned to Mr. Tire. I immediately expressed my concerns to the manager at that location for the day or weekend. I believe he was the district store manager. I told him why I'd started going to the Monro Auto location more, although my credit line allowed services in both stores. He assured me all would be well.

--Fast forward--- While there to have the oil changed, it was noted that I needed brakes done! I figured this couldn't be so because I'd had them done within a reasonable amount of time and had not been driving for months, while attending school. It was noted that my mileage was incorrect by Monro (BY LIKE 70,000 MILES!) and in fact, it could still be covered. I agreed to bring it back to Mr. Tire (which is where I was being serviced). The manager asked me to wait until it was approved by the corporate office, and he assured me that he's call back. -- Although I called multiple times to have it scheduled, no return phone call etc. I went in and decided they could figure out the paperwork details, but I was returning while the brakes were still under warranty.

Upon returning, to have them done, SOMEHOW my caliper just broke while the technician was taking the old pads off. Both the manager and the technician were in sync after much stalling and phone calls, they told me that "It just happens sometimes"! -- With that said, although I I knew that this sounded suspicious and I professionally questioned it, I still needed it done. They stuck with their story and told me the cost would be another $236, in addition to the price of the brake pad service that I paid full hourly price for, but it only took about ten minutes to change. I knew better. One of my siblings managed two other auto stores for decades and was a former employee for Toyota. I asked where they ordered their parts from. They replied. The part was purchased by me at a MUCH lower price. --the service was finished. ---UNKNOWN to the employee at the "parts store", the candid conversation was had in front of me!

The story told was that the manager stopped by to pick up my part and admitted that he had no idea what his technician did to break my part! -- What are the odds that the conversation was had in front of me! The employee of the part store had no idea both the manager and the employee lied to me and made me pay for a part THE TECHNICIAN BROKE!

To the corporate office: The employee of the "part store" is willing to be identified, if necessary. I am REQUESTING my refund for the part of course. Moving forward: I do not wish to break ties with either of the stores. They are both in my local town and I have used them for years. I just want the stores to be ETHICAL and do better in the future.

For years, I went to Mr Tire service center in Martinsville VA and have always been very satisfied with the work. I have purchased 3 full sets of tires (for 3 vehicles) within the past 7 years and have had numerous oil changes and inspections there. However, the last visit, I was very dissatisfied. I went in for a routine state inspection for my wife's car and supposedly it needed a wiper blade which was worn.

I had purchased a blade to go on but had left it home so I would have to purchase again and I did. However, the blade I paid for and the blade I received (they put on) were 2 different blades. They put a REAR blade on the front passenger side windshield. This blade is 3 inches too short, but I paid for the proper blade. I didn't realize this until it rained several days later. I had assumed it was correct but the blade does not extend far enough across the windshield. I found the blade I purchased from a local auto parts store and put it on. It was 3 inches longer.

The second reason I am upset is one of the workers while I was chatting with him, called me a liar. I told him about a law (which is easily verified from dozens of well-respected sources) and he said he didn't believe me. It's one thing to maybe shake your head and say I would like to verify that, but to straight up say someone is a liar is not a great way to do business. I've spent several thousands dollars on services and tires there. I will not spend another dime.

My van had an electrical failure, which required towing. I called Mr. Tire to verify that they could receive the vehicle and towed it to the location. I asked a technician where to park the vehicle. After unloading another technician came and insisted that I push the vehicle to a new location but refused to help push it. Mr. Tire then claimed to look at the vehicle. After two day they called my wife and said they could not find a way to restart it and that the engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced and charged us a diagnostic fee.

Not wanting to pay for an engine rebuild, I then towed the van to a Ford dealer. They looked at the van and determined that the battery was bad and replaced it. They also noticed that the oil was empty and determined that it had been drained because there were no leaks. Ford was able to start the van without a problem, checked the alternator, and determined a bad battery was the issue.

I then called Mr. Tire back and asked them about their diagnostic and how the van had had its oil drained and explained the battery issue. They investigated with the technician, who then claimed to have never touched the vehicle. I then asked why I was charged a diagnostic fee if they never touched the van. They could not explain this request and promised a follow-up, which didn't happen. So basically, what it comes down to is, either Mr. Tire lied about inspecting my vehicle and charged me a fee or Mr. Tire looked at my van, drained my oil, ignored the battery issue, and claimed the engine needed to be rebuilt when there was nothing wrong with the engine. In any case, this is indicative of either a dishonest service center or incompetent technicians. In any case avoid them. It is not worth the pain.

I went to the Mr Tire in Seaford, Delaware for tires for my 2018 Ford F150 with only 40,000 miles and got a complete set of tires. While mounting the tires, they scraped the crown of the edges of all four wheels in various places. If I was mounting tire and damage one wheel, I would have asked the manager or informed him before doing all four wheels. I have tried to reach out to the local office and they said they forwarded my claim to corporate but don't expect much help. That was well over a month ago. I went back yesterday and was told by the Mr Tire employee they have had no work from corporate. I tried calling and there is no way to reach a human. I tried writing but still no replies. I guess I am just stuck with paying for the repairs myself. Be warned that Mr Tire is in bankruptcy and may be out of business. Before I ever get help.

Absolutely terrible service at the Shrewsbury PA location in the last year. 2 years ago, they'd have a 5-star review. Now I wish 0 was an option. Why ask if you are dropping off or waiting when scheduling an appointment if you have no intent to service the vehicle at the scheduled time? Appointment at 10:30 am for a wheel & tire swap (full set of winters off, and full set of summers on) and a state inspection. Arrive at appointment and am told they have no state inspection stickers. You would think they might call and tell people they are wasting their time showing up for a service they are unable to perform...

I decide I'll let them swap the tires anyway since it was way past due. An appointment intended to take less than 2 hours originally, and now was just 15 minutes of work, and I hear nothing for 6 hours until I call them. They say it'll be 45 minutes, so I hop in wife's car to go get my keys and cancel the service (5 minute drive). They call while I'm driving there to ask for clarification on the service required.

The mighty have fallen. For years been taking our vehicles to the Mr Tire in Amherst Ohio. We are done. The company is in financial difficulty and they have hired a "turnaround specialist: as CEO. What that means is cut cut cut cut. There is no staff left, you can't wait in the lobby for your car anymore, and the lack of staff means you could wait up to 7 hours for an OIL CHANGE. I was forced to walk home, in the rain, because no one could transport me and I couldn't sit in the lobby. I'm 70 with bad arthritis and hearing aids. Torturing customers is a bad policy. I called corporate and their response was. we could send you a $35 store credit for future use. Really? You make my life miserable then you want me to come back and spend more money just to get a discount. Sorry. We are done. It was nice while it lasted but if they keep cutting the life out of the business there is no point.

I brought two VW Golfs to Mr. Tire (1728 Fordham Blvd, Chapel Hill) in April 2025 for simple oil changes. I supplied my own oil and filters, only needed labor. Soon after, both vehicles began leaking oil—something that never happened before. When I returned the first car (Silver VW), I was told there was no leak. I later found oil around the filter housing myself and had to pay $1,173 to repair a cracked housing at a VW specialist. Days later, the second car (Blue VW) showed the same issue. Mr. Tire’s manager acknowledged both vehicles had identical failures and were worked on by the same technician—who had since been let go. Despite this, they’ve avoided responsibility. I’ve called, emailed, filed a BBB complaint, and even contacted the Attorney General. No one from corporate has resolved this. If something goes wrong here, don’t expect follow-up or accountability. Extremely disappointed.

DO NOT use Mr Tire in Pasadena. I started by using their website to schedule a time to have new tires installed. Got there and was told they don't have in stock but could order for next day. I said fine and waited for a phone call, which came about 1030am. So drove up to get the work done, only to have them tell me price would be roughly TWICE what their website says. I went on website and showed them everything. They claimed the Michelin Defender 2 tires they ordered from the warehouse were somehow a different model than what was showing on the website (even though their website only shows 1 type of Defender 2 model). Then they tried to charge me extra for mounting and balancing, when the website clearly states that was included in original price. Bottom line, these people are fraudsters out to try to take advantage of people. DO NOT use them.

1 Star — $2,000 Wasted, Zero Accountability — Avoid at All Costs. I brought my Audi Q7 to Mr. Tire for a misfire issue. They charged me $2,000 to replace plugs and coils and assured me this would fix the problem. It didn’t. Not only did the car still have the exact same issue, but after multiple visits and wasted days, they finally admitted they never did a proper diagnosis in the first place. Instead of owning their mistake, they tried to upsell me on expensive engine work without any real evidence or confirmation of the problem. Their communication was nonexistent unless I chased them, and I never got a straight answer about what was wrong with my car. I had to fight for a basic leak-down test, which they promised but never actually performed.

Mr. Tire’s business model is to guess, throw parts at your car, drain your wallet, and dodge accountability. Customer service is a joke — I brought lunch for their staff and still got treated like a number. Don’t let these scammers waste your money or time. There are plenty of honest mechanics in Mansfield. This place is not one of them. Avoid Mr. Tire like the plague.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding Service & Tesla Expertise! On May 29, 2025, while on vacation in Harrisonburg, VA, I urgently needed a new tire and found Mr. Tire on Rt 33. I walked in just before 7 PM, and despite being close to closing, the staff was polite, professional, and eager to help. My biggest concern was whether they knew how to work on a Tesla. To my relief, they assured me they did. What started as a single tire purchase turned into a full set of four after they showed me the condition of my current tires. They scheduled me for the next morning and took me in right on time.

The following day, after I got the new tires, I ended up on an unexpected 10-hour drive, and I felt completely at ease knowing my car had brand-new, safe tires. Huge thanks to Kayla, who was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions, and to Seneca, the Tesla expert, who came in on his day off to install my tires. Both were kind, professional, and extremely helpful. Highly recommend Mr. Tire on Rt 33 for anyone, especially Tesla owners, looking for great service and real expertise.

I'm writing this on behalf of my husband, who had an absolutely unacceptable experience at Mr. Tire. He went in for a simple oil change, expecting it to take no more than an hour or two. Instead, they made him wait for over 5 hours without any explanation -- only to finally admit that they had damaged the battery during the service. Since then, they've been holding our car for nearly a week, with no clear updates, no urgency, and zero accountability. The most shocking part? The store staff were dramatically rude, acting like we were inconveniencing them -- even though they're the ones who caused the damage. Their attitude was dismissive and unprofessional, like they were the customers and we were the problem.

There has been no communication, no ownership, no customer service -- not even the decency to offer a loaner or a timeline. We are now filing formal complaints with the BBB, the Attorney General's office, and may pursue legal action if this isn't resolved quickly. Bottom line: Avoid Mr. Tire at all costs. Even a basic oil change can spiral into a week-long disaster with your car held hostage and no one taking responsibility.

I was frustrated because it was very inconvenient to take off from work, drive 30 minutes to them, and waste my time. The calling center does not communicate with the shops where they make appointments to verify if that shop can do the work. A company interested to have a great reputation on customer satisfaction will manage better their business. Prior to stopping in at Mr. Tire in the Festival at Bel Air Shopping Mall, I visited four other auto service centers that could not master the services need to active my monitor system to my tires. Each auto service center could not perform at the level needed to active my monitoring system. As I pulled into the parking lot of Mr. Tire, my frustration was at an all-time high. I had wasted so much time and energy trying to get my tire monitor system activated, only to be met with disappointment at every turn. But as soon as I walked through the doors of Mr. Tire, everything changed.

The store manager greeted me with a warm smile and asked how he could assist me. I explained my situation and he immediately assured me that they would be able to help. He took the time to listen to my concerns and offered possible solutions before even inspecting my car. After a quick inspection, the staff quickly identified the issue with my monitoring system and got to work on fixing it. They worked efficiently and with expertise, giving me confidence that my car was in good hands. But what truly impressed me was the level of customer service I received throughout the entire process. Not once did they make me feel like an inconvenience or a burden. They were friendly, patient, and empathetic towards my frustration.

After just a short wait, my tire monitor system was successfully activated. I couldn't believe it! Mr. Tire had managed to do what four other major auto service centers could not. And on top of that, they did it with exceptional customer service. I left Mr. Tire feeling grateful and relieved. The manager welcomed me to come back for any other auto services needed in the future. Thank you, ** and crew.

I was told two prices on the phone, but when I got there they told me for warranty they would need to charge me for an alignment.

Morgan St. Durham... 122 for an oil change, synthetic and it took 2 hours even though I had an appointment. They tried to push it to 3 hours and broke my trash can and just threw it on the floor. Off to find a new option.

Went in to get a nail removed and my tire plugged. I used them before. Now they got some gimmick that they have to replace your tire stem when they plug your tire (This added 25 dollars to the cost of their tire plug). I think I got taken for a ride. They need to inform customers of that fact before they plug their tire. I would have gone somewhere else had I known. Live and Learn. Buyer beware. They'll never get my business again. I took my car to the Gaithersburg, MD location, store #653. My car had a leak in the front driver side tire. This is even printed on my receipt. The tech said he could not find a problem but thought that since it is an older car the seal may be bad on the rim. So, he cleaned it and re-sealed it. Next morning it was flat again. I took it to a different location, and they found a nail and repaired it, they also told me that the tech in Gaithersburg worked on the wrong tire. They could see his work on the driver side. So, the location in Gaithersburg charged me $60 to "fix" the wrong tire. Of course, since they did seal the perfectly good tire, they could not refund my money.

Made an appointment at the Westminster, MD location. Employee was professional but that was the only good thing. Was quoted $120 for an oil change. $120 BUCKS! Should've walked away but decided to stay and just finish. Then got the "your air filter is dirty" sales pitch. I thought another $20 bucks might help my high-mileage car. After waiting over an hour, car was finally finished and the bill was $170. Yep... $40 bucks for an air filter that costs $15 on Amazon. Thought I'd had enough.

Then, while I'm grateful that they put plastic on the seat, steering wheel and the drivers side floor mat to keep the car clean, DON'T LEAVE IT IN THE CAR! I know getting employees is hard, but these lazy folks take the cake. Car doesn't run any smoother than before and I can't confirm anything was actually done. Can I even trust any of the so-called "courtesy inspections?" Quit paying useless Corporate fatcats that do jack nothing and pay more for real mechanics. I guess it doesn't matter anyway. Bottom line is I'll never go back and as of the time of this review, Mr. Tire has 263 reviews and NOTHING higher than a 1 star. You realize it's impossible to go LOWER than 1 star? You can't possibly do any worse.
