I have a habit of keeping cars until they are about 200,000 miles and I have been burned with unneeded repairs. But not with Mavis Tire. They are great and have given me top and timely service and have never tried to bamboozle me even though I am non-mechanical. I feel safe driving older cars knowing they are on top of whatever needs to be done.

Working with customers can sometimes be annoying and I was probably one of those people. ** was very kind, patient and always attentive to me despite my lack of knowledge when buying tires. He gave great advice and helped choose the correct tire. He didn't try to oversell, which is always a concern of mine when going into these types of places. I felt comfortable, never pressured while at the store. Thank you ** for everything you and your team did for me! Camillus, NY Location.

Fair and honest, very competitive. I could have saved a few $, but I like going some place where I can trust the folks working on my vehicles. They're not pushy and inform me of worn parts, with % of wear and give positive recommendations. I can almost always get service same day I call and of not scheduling an appointment is easy. Any work I've had done has also taken less time that I figured. I drive at least a hundred miles a day and I'm hard on my vehicles. I like how easy Mavis is to deal with.

They should adjust their customer service starting with front desk. Their goal is to write you up, and put you on a waiting line. Then, you just waste your time waiting in the line and see new customers getting helped even when they showed up after 45 min of you waiting to get your car in. You must have a whole entire day to get service. After 45 min of waiting I asked how much longer to start the car, the answer "You are next." Actually, next was a car that came within 10 min. Too much waiting for these people that don't care about you. They believe you have an entire day to wait at their discretion. SHAME!

I just purchased four tires from Mavis for my 12-year-old Sonata. I tried Sears first but they only had 3 brands to choose. This was my first purchase at Mavis but my sister was happy with their work. So they had a wide selection of brands, and a couple of specials. I got Cooper tires with a rebate of $60. The job was done quickly, considering how many customers were there. The sales advisor was polite and explained things clearly. No bait and switch, no pressure to buy higher priced tires than I needed. I will certainly buy here again, and tell friends to go to Mavis also.

Well today I called up mavis tire about their price buster cause I found tires cheaper than what they were asking. I found starfire rs c2.0 205 55 r 16 for $56.71 free shipping from pep boys online. Mavis is asking $127.00 carry out, no installing. They say the best they can do is $79.99. I ask him “why that is” and he said that is all he is authorized to do and it says CLEARLY they will beat any price. I said to the guy on the phone “well that’s false advertisement” and he says “I know”. Their own employee says he knows it’s false advertisement. It fits all their requirements for the policy. So now I’m waiting for a call from higher up. Not to mention most I see them tires for online is $78.00 and they charging $127 so how is that buy 3 get one free when they charging you $50 to $75 more than anywhere else cause what they overcharge you for the 3 is just like paying for the 4th if not more for it?

Technician was unable to complete entire service on same day because he stated he needed a special tool to remove existing left axle. I agreed to return so he could finish the task. I told customer service rep that I will have to return 9am on Sunday to speak to store manager about car performance after failed attempt to repair service they offered to provide. He helped the gentleman in front of me, and asked what the woman behind me needed and then just walked away. He continued to mill about but never addressed me. No, "Sorry sir, can you wait a moment" or "I'll be right with you". I've never seen the attendant before so I can't imagine why he might have a problem with me on a personal level. The whole thing was bizarre. I ended up just having to leave.

Having just bought 4 new tires and with them the tire pressure upgrade kit for the pressure gauges in each of the four tires, I drove out of Mavis and the low pressure light on the dash was still on. Back into the office to explain to the people what had happened and was told to use the air pump outside the store to put air in the low tire. I asked if they had a pressure gauge I could borrow and was told they don't have one (a tire store without a air pressure gauge, yeah right!!). After a couple of tries, the Worker who put the tires on the car told me to pull over by the car bay door and he helped me out by putting in the proper amount of air in the low tire. I thanked him and drove off. If Mavis wasn't so rushed, maybe this wouldn't have happened. I did get a good price on the tires so it was just a small problem that was fixed.

A lot of similar companies have the reputation to "rip off" customers by adding unnecessary services, e.g. changing brake pads that are still good, etc. Definitely not the case with Mavis -- people are honest and professional. I compared prices with others on the internet. Mavis beats or matches them all, but more important to me was the good and trustful service. In 40,000 miles -- I come back! I called Mavis and 2 other companies to get prices on 4 tires for a 2003 Toyota. I spoke with ** at the 1-800 number. He gave me a price of $89/tire for their most recommended off brand tire. I explained I don't buy off brands. He gave me a price for 2 Cooper tires, one with a 60,000 mi rating and one with a 80,000 mi rating. I opted for the COOPER tires with a 60,000 mi rating. Upon installation I find that they charged me twice for mounting and balance, so after some haggling they took $40 off to cover the balancing. When I looked at the tires they don't say COOPER anywhere. It says Starfire. Starfire is a brand owned by COOPER but not COOPER tires! After bringing this to their attention they said they would remove them and install real COOPER tires for $14/tire and $10/tire to balance them.

The tires sold to me for $147/tire are available at treaddepot.com for $79.99!!! Bottom line is they got me in there for a COOPER tire and sold me a knockoff brand owned by COOPER but NOT COOPERS!! Then charged me for the brand name and insisting that they are COOPERS! Starfire website goes as far to say that Starfire is a brand of tire owned by COOPER. This does not mean it is a COOPER. After contacting the main Mavis branch they would do nothing but sell me real COOPERS at their dictated price and then pay for their balancing package AGAIN! I will NEVER give Mavis my business again.

Six tires were purchased in May of 2014 along with an alignment. First I was told they cannot align my truck because it is too long. I contacted their corporate office and was assured they can do the alignment. The truck was aligned the next day. The truck pulled to the right and the steering wheel was crooked. It was aligned again. It was slowly pulling to the right and the wheel was straight so I let it go for about 6 months. I was then charged for another alignment. After looking over my truck this week (ten months later) I find I am in need of front tires due to low tread on the front tires only especially on the outside. The rear tires (where all the weight is) are in like new condition. Mavis refuses to acknowledge fault and want me to purchase new tires from them and another alignment. Go to Sears! Go to the local garage! You may pay more for the tires but you will not be dealing with kids that are incompetent.

When I got my flat tire today; not knowing how I got a flat, but knowing it was flat because I heard it start to bump a lot and when I stopped, it looked melted - the tire that is. To my brief consolation, I saw the Mavis Discount Tire around the corner, where I stopped just on the inside of the parking lot so I wouldn't screw my rim or tire up anymore than I thought it was by driving it more. I run in and I see TIM, the guy who is in charge of helping fix tires at the Mavis Discount Tire center by Colonie Mall. He looked at me like I just tried to hit him, which I didn't - I was looking for help at a tire store for my flat! Right easy and told me he couldn't look at it until I drove it - not even a couple meters away from where he wanted to see the tire. At my distress about the rim and tire, he said it was okay to drive it that far, so I did. Then he goes outside and tells me it will be $115 and it'll be 3 hours until he could fix it.

I call my dad (because I work for my dad) telling him I'm going to be late. I ask him to talk to him and explain the tire popped and I'm getting it fixed, and he goes to tell my father and boss that I must have hit something. I was crying in the background and saying I didn't and when I got the phone back, he already hung up the phone - thinking I hit something, which I didn't! I cry more and call for my friend to pick me up so I can get to work. TIM then starts to talk about me like I wasn't in the building with vulgar words and debasing me for being upset. I could not be any more upset at how he handled things and how he handles customers. I'm paying you to do a job and you treat people like that!

After I answered all his questions, this Tim character went on to being a huge bully and told me it's be $152 to fix my tire and wouldn't say anything else. I have never been more appalled at customer service in my life and I didn't deserve (or anyone) to be treated that way! I'm calling corporate right after I get my keys back from this ** and place, and they're better off put it on right. I can't wait to give him a huge piece of my mind. He was rude not only to me but all the customers around him. Disgusting. If I wasn't in need, I will and would never EVER go to that place to get new tires ever. I hope this helps.

For the Taylor PA store - In 08/13 I bought tires tire warranty and had PA inspection done. No problems - good service. Went back in 08/2014 and asked them to rotate tires and do inspection. So they told me I needed shocks and control arm and brakes. Oil leak fixed and wouldn't rotate tires. They charged me for the inspection. So I didn't have the work done. It seemed odd that I needed all that since I don't drive the car much and probably only added 12000 mi to the car.

So I recently had my car inspected - yes it did need brakes. So I had that done at a garage and went to the Wilkes-Barre PA store to have the tires rotated and talk about the wear, and the mgr there accused the garage that inspected of committing fraud and said they were contacting state officials and they would come to my house and scrape the stickers off my car. Again they refused to rotate my tires or discuss wear. I was so upset. I went back to the garage that inspected it and they rechecked it and said they missed a bushing on the control arm and offered to fix it at no charge. I don't need ball joints or a control arm. I was also told that Taylor store recorded that they put stickers on my car in August. I never got the stickers even though I paid for them. I want them to honor the tire warranty. Any advice is welcome.

I recently had an appointment at the Jamaica Mavis location. I made my appointment on Wednesday January 14th for Saturday the 17th. A Mavis employee called me to confirm that Wednesday and then called me on Thursday to let me know that my tires would be there by 1 pm. On Friday, an employee called me to see if I still wanted the tires and I stated to him that my appointment is on Saturday. He confirms it, hangs up, and then calls me back to let me know my tires won't be in until after 1 pm even though my appointment is scheduled for 9:30 AM.

On Saturday I bring my car in to Mavis and one of the employees comes out and looks over my car and goes inside to enter my information. He then tells me with 4 tires I am required to get a wheel alignment that is $180 but with discounts and coupons they can lower down to $120 dollars so everything together will cost $650. When he sees I'm a little upset about the price the employee says "I can lower it for you by $10". I proceed to tell him I don't want the wheel alignment but he tells me it's required because I'm getting 4 new tires. I agree to it only because I needed the tires and leave my car at Mavis.

At 1:10 pm I receive a call from Mavis stating that my brakes are low and I have minor heat cracks in my rotors. I ask how much this will be to correct and the employee states everything together will be $970 and I state to him I do not want the brake work done but he proceeds to tell me how he just wants to make sure that he informs me. Once again I decline the work and thank him for letting me know.

10 minutes after the Mavis manager of that location calls me saying he can work with me to lower the price by giving me the wheel alignment for only $70 and not charging me for labor of the brake work and that would lower the price down to $804. I didn't understand why I wasn't charged $70 dollars for the alignment in the first place and I didn't see any where in the shop or online where the alignment price can be discounted if you have your brakes done. I decline the work once again.

40 minutes later I receive a call stating my car was complete. I come in to pick up my car and he states it will cost $693 with warranty on all 4 tires and I wouldn't be charged for installation. I get the warranty and pay via credit card. I drive the car home and park the car for about an hour. When I go to drive the car I notice that there's a noise coming from the rear passenger side wheel and a small vibration. It feels almost like the tire is unbalanced or lopsided. I also realized once I looked at my receipt that I was charged for installation even though the employee told me I wouldn't be charged for it ($4.99 a tire).

I will NOT be going back to that location and I'm questioning visiting any of their other locations. I've heard from people they have not had good experiences with them. I also would like to know why is their alignment price $180 dollars to begin with when the average wheel alignment price is around $70 dollars or less.

This work cost me $80 and I have no proof but a stranger's word. Please IF YOU NEED AN ALIGNMENT, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE PAPER WORK!

Mavis Discount claims to match prices so I received a quote less than what they had a tire priced at. So they said they would match it. After they inspect my tire, Michelin tires said they would give me a 25% discount towards my new tire. Mavis Discount then said I had to pay their price plus wheel balancing and installation. The lying manager named Russell at the Utica ave store in Brooklyn did not honor their price match plus the 25% off. So I called Michelin and they sent me a check for the 25%. I returned to the store and the lying Russell became arrogant and loud and even called himself trying to threaten me little does he know. I strongly urge anyone stay away from Mavis Discount and do your business with tirerack.com. They have the best prices and they don't nickel and dime you. I was forced to give a rating of 1 star but my rating is zero.

My daughter ordered two studded tires. Yesterday I brought the two tires to the Mavis store. I got there at 10:00 am, I returned at 12:30 and the tires were not ready. I went to get something to eat and went back at 2:00 pm. Tires still not ready. I went home. Got a message from my daughter at 2:20 that the tires were ready. Why they would call my daughter when I left my cell # is beyond me. The manager could not even give me a ballpark time when I asked before I went to lunch. So it took 4.25 hours to get 2 tires mounted and balanced and I took the tires off the car. If I would have brought the car in and needed 4 tires and they had to take the tires off and put them on.... would it take a day and a half???

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! I called first to make sure that they had a tire in stock that would work with my car. It all started out okay, I get there and they gave me a time estimate. Sounds fine. Until they used the air gun to try and loosen my wheel lock instead of using a breaker bar to loosen it first. They snapped my wheel lock key and embedded the key in the grooves of the wheel lock. So now the mechanic tried to chisel out the lock and damaged my rim. I spent 3.5 hours there for nothing. Even then I said no problem to Craig **, the manager on duty who told me he would replace my wheel locks and save me $10.00 for the tire. I declined and said that I would not come back to have work done there, and that I just wanted my wheel locks replace, he agreed.

Here is where it gets interesting. I called the next day while at my local BMW dealership to have the problem that Mavis created rectified. I spoke to Sean the store manager of Mavis, I explained to him that I am reasonable and I have no interest in getting anyone in trouble, nor do I want and compensation for my damaged rim or the 3.5 hours spent there. I just asked him to replace my wheel locks since they broke the key. He proceeded to tell me that It was not the fault of his staff.

He said and I quote "This was the first time you used our service and we made no mistakes, I spoke to the technician and the lugs were too tight and that I should go back to the people who tightened them in the first place and I should get reimbursed by them." He also stated, "A lot times most guys are too lazy to tighten with a torque wrench and so they probably over tighten them". So Sean if that is the case why does your shop use a air gun to loosen a wheel lock when you should be loosening a wheel lock by hand first. Sounds like you're speaking from experience when it comes to lazy! So I spoke to the BMW and the technician they told me that, that is not possible since this rim had never had a tire replaced, It still has the factory weights in it which means that there was never a tire replace on this side, so that would mean that BMW as a factory did not tighten them to specs.

Run, don't walk from Mavis Discount Tire in Syosset, NY, not only will they waste your time, and damage your wheels and say it wasn't their fault, but they will try to up sell on a $6.99 valve gasket that they say has to be replaced every time a tire is replaced. Also Sean, the manager will double talk you even if Craig the asst manager tells you something else. I feel bad for Craig that he has to work for a guy like that!!! Only go to Mavis Discount Tire in Syosset, NY if you have time and money to waste!!!

I guarantee 9 out of 10 brake jobs squeak or something is rubbing, tires are never balanced correctly, their motto is "Get them done and out, we will refix later". Well from what I've read they can't even get them out fast, so slow service and terrible performance, honestly do yourself a favor shop around check reviews and go there, a couple dollars more will be worth it in the return time for the "Mechanics" to refix, TRUE STORY!!!

Come spring I purchased a set of summer tires, and was told the passenger winter tire seemed to have broken belts and unusual wear making them unsuitable to use for another winter. Within a few months, the passenger summer tire was in the same condition as the previous tire. After having a new alignment done, the technicians at a different garage were alarmed at how badly the alignment was out. I am writing to inform you of the damage one of my chrome rims received after I took my car to a company store. The store/shop I visited is located at Pelham Bay Mavis, 4400 Boston Road, Bronx, NY 10475, facility#7116838. On Friday I went to the Pelham Bay Mavis office to purchase two new tires and a wheel alignment with wheel rotation. I ask the Desk Supervisor to also put on two rim covers I purchased because the rim covers were missing on two tires. I inspected my chrome rims before taking the car into the office and ensured the rims covers fit. There were no outstanding marks on the rims.

After the tires were replaced, my car battery didn't start and I needed a boost. I told your Desk Supervisor that I would return for the battery in the morning. I returned on Saturday and told another Desk Supervisor why I was there and to also check the pressure in the driver side front wheel. It appeared a little low to me. While I sat for over two hours waiting for my vehicle, I saw one of the mechanics take off all my wheels. I immediately went to the front desk and to the Desk Supervisor that I only needed a battery, the wheels were done yesterday. I only wanted the pressure checked in the front tire. This Desk Supervisor said to me this is routine to check all the tires. I said, "I was just here yesterday." He said "I didn't know you were here yesterday." This is the same Desk Supervisor who took my information when I first arrived and called for the battery to be delivered. Plus he pulled up the information on his computer screen. So how is it that he didn't know?

After I picked up my car I noticed there was a lot of black smudges on the rims. I took it to the car washed and after the car washed I saw where my back rim was damaged. This is the same rim that one of my new tires were installed on! Now originally, I replaced the front two tires but, when the wheels were rotated after the installation, they became the two back tires. I took my car back to Pelham Bay Mavis and spoke to two Desk Supervisors. They tried to convince me the rims were like that when I brought my car in, it was like that. I asked them if they were how come no one notified me of that prior to the work or even after the work was finished!? They did not reply to that, they just continued to state the rim was like that.

I did not want to stand there and argue with them so I left. As I mentioned before, I checked all four of my cars chrome rims before taking the car in on both days. This happened on the second day I brought the car in. Furthermore, I showed the rim to a couple of other mechanics and one that stated that during a tire installation if the rim is not secure on the tire changer, the tire handle can jump and scratch a rim. I even saw an example them installing a tire on another vehicle and saw where that could happen. This person was ASE certified with over 10 years experience. I need to speak to someone as soon as possible to correct this matter promptly. Thank you for your consideration.

I TRIED to get 4 new tires for my car. I looked around the internet and saw that Cooper tires was running a promotion for $70 off 4 tires. By the time I saw this, there was only 1 day left for the promotion. I called Louis, I believe his name was, the MAVIS representative to see if it was possible to take advantage of this. He said, "No problem, our trucks deliver to the store daily" and he would have them there by morning. Morning came and no tires. Said they had to order 1 tire from 4 different stores. Oh well, there goes the rebate.

Still wanting the tires, I called the B'Ville store and they tell me that Cooper was going to run the same promotion the following month and the tires would be there in a few days. GREAT, or so I thought. Call a few days later and still no tires. In the meantime, I contacted Cooper Tire and they said that NO, the summer promo was over. So I thought, well maybe Mavis knew something they didn't. Turns out Mavis just wanted my money and were going to install the tires with me thinking I was still going to get the rebate. Well since the tires never came, I knew now I was going to pay full price. Oh well, I still wanted the tires. But wait, there's more...

So another week goes by. I call them on Friday. They tell me the tires will be there Saturday. Saturday comes - STILL NO TIRES!!!!! I then call the following Monday. They tell me the computer shows them on the truck en route for Tuesday. FINALLY!!!! Or so I thought. I call Tuesday morning to have the tires installed. Computer shows the tires are here. I ask them approximately how long it would take. They say 2 hours with hopes that it would be done in one. GREAT, or so I thought. I get there 15 minutes later only to be asked to leave my car there for the day. I said, "I just talked to you 15 minutes ago and you said 2 hours." "Well we're running behind." "OK, how about 3 hrs?" "OK." I call 3 hrs later only to be told it would be another hour and a half. I get a call an hour later and they tell me the tires aren't even there and they aren't scheduled to be there until tomorrow. Overall the worst experience ever with anything retail. They told me it would be about $110 for front brakes. Brought the car in and spoke to Eddie. I explained that I had an intermittent squeak, and would he check it out? Another employee, Bobbi, came out of the shop area and had me follow him to my car where he showed me that my rotor was blue, which he said, most likely meant that my rotor was warped therefore causing squeak. He further said I needed brake pads. I told him that the pads were replaced less than 15000 miles ago, and that BMW says pads should be good for 25000-30000 miles. I told him that the car stopped very well. Bobbi said that city miles wear out brakes quicker than estimated usage miles that dealer states. I believed him and had him replace rotor and brake pads (for slightly more than ($300)) assuming that he was talking about eliminating the squeak which was what I brought the car to them to start off.

When I drove the car out of their shop, the squeak was still there. I returned and when Bobbi saw me, he made a point of avoiding me and sent a mechanic to deal with me. The mechanic took the car for a test drive and told me that the back brakes needed to be lubricated, which he did in five minutes and the squeak was gone. I'm planning on going to small claims court about it if the situation isn't resolved, but I thought I'd contact you first, hoping to avoid court, better business bureau and state attorney general's office.

Keep in mind I am very particular about my car and I keep it in impeccable condition. I would have noticed a 18 inch crack in my windshield before I dropped it off!?

I drove back to the Mavis and looked for that some pos nervous guy that was hesitant to look me in the face. He came to me reluctantly and made sure he brought the biggest goon he had in the place to try to intimidate me. He swore left and right that they were not at fault and that they have the whole shop under surveillance. I demanded to see the footage and was told to wait outside. Can you guess what happened next? Their computers were down and I would have to contact the district manager to get the footage! Lol. This is my first time ever writing a review and I am over 35 years old so you can get an idea of how mistreated I feel. Please people, do yourself a favor and stay away from Mavis Tire Center!!

Make sure you take photos of your wheels with date and time right before replacing your tires. Three of my four wheels have paint chips (1/2 inch) or deep scratches (ranging from 1/4 to 1 inches), 2 inches from the rim. My wheels are 20 inches. Despite the consistency of the imperfections, their excuse is "our machines are incapable of doing that because they ride on the edges only" and "you only noticed that now because you just got your new tires." **! The imperfections are not from the snow, car wash, curbs, or rocks. 1) I don't drive in the snow. 2) I personally hand wash my car every three weeks and wax my car every 6 months. 3 & 4) A curb or a flying rock will not make a paint chip that looks like a 1/2 inch flat head driver that skinned just one layer of paint in the center of a rim spoke 3-4 inches wide.

On top of that I examined all wheels this morning before heading out to MAVIS. Further, they installed the rotational tires incorrectly and had to reinstall them. Edited: I went out to take some photos of the wheels and they also managed to scratch the rim edges on all three wheels where the machine touched the wheels. I only have one good wheel.

BUT there is no important mantra we should be aware of when dealing with them. If you are just there of tires, DON'T FELL INTO THEIR SALES TRAP!! They will try to sell you brake pads, rotors and struts etc..

I did fell into their trap once, when I went there to get the brake pads changed on my 2 year old Accord. With only 30k miles on it, I ended up in getting rotors too, which I now greatly regret, because they are of low quality and had to change again. Today they told me that I need 4 struts. And the most popular trick "oil leak in the struts".

East Meadow Couple goes to Mavis for an Oil Change: Engine Blows after Mechanic Fails to Replace Oil.

On July 13, 2013, Denise ** took her 2004 Subaru Forester to Mavis Discount Tires (Facility 7113472, Phone: 516/794-1718) in East Meadow for a routine oil change. Mavis called her after the work was done and she picked up the car and began a few minutes’ drive home to East Meadow to pick up her husband. They were driving less than 10 minutes when the car stopped abruptly and could not be restarted.

When Ms. **’s husband (James **) checked the oil – there was nothing in the engine block. Apparently the Mavis employee NEGLECTED to refill the oil; therefore, the engine seized up. Mavis was called. The manager (“**”) brought oil to the scene. He instructed the couple to come back a few hours later and try to start it. He then drove them home. Despite following his instructions, the car could not be started.

On July 15, the couple contacted Mavis’s corporate office and spoke with Joel **. He explained that if they had the car towed to a Mavis-recommended repair shop, Mavis would have the repairs done at company expense. In addition, Mr. ** said Mavis would reimburse the couple for the cost of towing and car rentals. However, after a conversation with a dealership mechanic friend, he advised the couple to take their Forester to a Subaru dealership for the repairs. He speculated that the engine seized because it had no oil in the engine block and the entire engine would likely have to be replaced – NOT just rebuilt.

Ms. ** and Mr. ** advised Mr. ** that they wanted their vehicle taken to Hassett Subaru in Wantagh. However, he attempted to dissuade them, stating that if they brought the car to Hassett, Mavis would leave it all to their insurance company, which is their policy. The couple reiterated to Mr. ** that all they wanted was their car back in its original condition before Mavis “serviced” it. There was nothing mechanically or cosmetically wrong with the car. The Mavis employee botched a simple, routine oil change, which Mr. ** acknowledged.

Although the car is a 2004, it had only 76,000 miles on it and the original engine was replaced and had only 30,000 miles on it – ostensibly, the car was “good to go” for another 10 to 15 years. Understandably, the couple lost confidence in Mavis. Mr. **’s recommendation to have a Mavis-recommended shop do the work, judging by their past bad experience, made that an unacceptable resolution. They feared the work would be done fast, cheap, and without Subaru parts.

Despite Mr. **’s assurances that would not be the case, they still insisted that a Subaru dealership do the work. He then said if they insisted on having Subaru do the repairs, then Mavis’s insurance company would become involved and contact them. After the Forester was towed to Hassett, it was inspected. The engine torn down, and the mechanics determined a new or rebuilt engine was needed. Utica (Mavis’s insurance company) informed Ms. ** and Mr. ** that the repair costs were more than the Forester’s book value. Since the couple had been without a car for almost a month and could not wait until the issue could be resolved legally, they agreed on $9574.21 minus $1000 salvage for a total of $8574.21 hoping that Mavis would make up the $475 difference because it was the “right thing to do”.

After Hassett’s repairs, the couple contacted Mr. ** again, asking for Mavis to reimburse them the $475. Although he again acknowledged that Mavis was exclusively responsible for the damage to the Forester and that the $475 reimbursement on their part would be the “right thing to do,” the company policy was to let the insurance company pay, insisting that the $475 was the couple’s responsibility because they chose to have Hassett Subaru do the repairs instead of taking the car to a Mavis-recommended shop. Mr. ** did agree to ask his superiors if an exception could be made. To date, Mavis has refused to make the $475 reimbursement.

The questions are as simple as an oil change: Would YOU entrust your car to a company to repair it after it botched a simple oil change? Would you bring your car back to that company’s recommended repair shop to do complex engine-replacement work? Wouldn't you attempt to recoup your insurance policy deductible if the damage done was 100 percent due to the shop’s malfeasance? In this entire debacle, the only “negligence” to be ascribed to Ms. ** and Mr. ** was their choice of entrusting their vehicle to Mavis. Thanking you in advance for any guidance.

I asked him again and informed him that I had to get somewhere and didn't have a few hours to wait. He turned me away saying, sorry can't help me. I drove off with a flat tire to the Shell gas station on the corner. The gas attendant not only had a tire plug kit, but plugged my tire and filled back up. It took a total of 4 mins to fix my tire. I realize and understand that businesses can't drop and stop everything for one customer, but to turn me away, allowing me to drive on a flat tire is just bad business. After this experience alone, I will no longer be a customer of Mavis Tire Center.

They also said "tires are on sale today", and this is perfect choice for my car and advised me to read reviews. I believed to what Mavis said and purchased all 4 brand new tires. Next day I couldn't stop my car and crashed into big SUV Chevy Traverse. Also, I hurt my back. It was enough distance to the car in front of mine. I was driving 35-40 mph. Mavis Tire in New Hyde Park, NY has no customer care. We purchased 4 tires half a year ago. We went back to rotate the tires and it turned out the front 2 tires were completely gone. Now we start the blame game: it is because the alignment in the car is not good, alignment done by them. After a week of aggravation, we came up with some number and we were ready to call it quits. I requested not to use the air gun, because of the tins. Of course, they disregarded my request and the result was scratched rims. I called the manager and his attitude was "well it's done" and above that he charged me an additional amount, which I refused to pay. Their solution was withholding my car, my property. I even had to call the police. But here is another twist. I called the so-called headquarters of Mavis. I placed a complaint with them regarding this location. I spoke with allegedly 2 managers there, repeating my experience multiple times and every time I am promised a phone call back, some solution, but now we are 3 weeks later and needless to say I am still waiting. So do not expect "customer support or service" from Mavis Tire, because it's non existent. I will place complaints everywhere because this is not how to treat your customers.

In the Great Neck, NY store, I went in for 4 tires for a Hyundai. I got a fair price and they were fine. No problems so far. They are all salesmen though. They pushed hard for an alignment, I knew it was running fine and didn't need it, so I said, "Nah, OK." At the end, they pushed for their own Mavis tire guarantee for $9 per tire. It is my option to say no and I said no, OK. But in the middle, their mechanic came out and wanted to show me something. He took me to the car and had me try to turn the back wheels. They were very hard to turn. HE SAID THE BRAKE CALIPERS WERE WORN AND WEREN'T OPENING UP ALL THE WAY and needed to be serviced and changed for $225.

I did ask the the brake "thingy" was engaged at all and he said no. But I've fixed cars for 40 years and I was looking at 2 perfectly smooth rotors and the brake pads didn't look all that bad to me. So I went to the front wheel and tried to turn that one and it was also difficult. And then he tried to convince me that the front one turned much easier. Really!!!!??? SO I said, "I'll think about that. Just do the tires for now." OK, I paid and got into the car where I noticed that the Emergency brake was up about 1/2 of the way. (I never touch the "brake thingy" so I know it wasn't me.) I went home and jacked the back of the car up so the rear tire that would not turn before was just off the ground.

Lo and behold, I could spin it with one finger and after it started spinning, it didn't stop. It was perfectly fine. So the conclusion is that this mechanic is either incredibly stupid or an outright crook. It's a good thing I know cars and wasn't going for it. Because it was complete **!!!! I also remember there were some other people getting things done like having an axle replaced; I wonder if any of those were legitimate. It is very rare that one could screw up an axle. And twice before when I had my car fixed, there they did shoddy work. Conclusion: I guess they can put tires on your car or change your oil, but I certainly wouldn't have them do any mechanical work - especially if they told you that you needed it. Buyer Beware!!!

When I got on the highway after the installation, my steering wheel was shaking at any speed above 60 MPH, indicating that the tires weren't balanced properly... Again, another $48.00 loss for me. They then opened a store in Bethpage, NY and I used them with no real problem. Last summer, I went to the Bethpage store (summer 2012) and there were new managers. They informed me that I needed brakes, rotors and tires for my SUV. I suggested that they cut the rotors and install new brake pads. They gave me an argument about that and about honoring their own discount coupon. They also refused to meet or beat the price quoted to me on tires at Costco in spite of their ads claiming that they'll beat any competitor's price. I had to call their corporate office to get the tires at a competitive price.

I got the car back and the brakes were grabbing so I had them checked out by another mechanic. He pointed out that they did a very rough cut of the rotors, so the brakes would grab instead of a fine cut so the car would stop smoothly. There is no question. They purposely did that because I refused the new rotors and insisted they honor their coupon.

I had ordered snow tires from Mavis on December 26 and was told it would be one week. The following week Jan 2, 2013, I called and was told they were in and confirmed that they were in fact snow tires. I waited 3 hours to have All Season Radials put on, not snow tires. I had to have my old tires re-applied and was told it would take another week. I drove approximately 20 miles, and my Dash Light "Check TPMS" went on. I shopped elsewhere and found tires the next day, and I was informed by the new place that I had a "universal" tire sensor along with 3 original Honda Sensors. I was informed by this place and Honda (after calling them) that I needed true Honda sensors and otherwise the system wouldn’t reset. I returned to Mavis in Ithaca where it was confirmed by Brian that they did in fact change my sensor and they never informed me, but it should work. Would I like to have him replace the sensor and see? I do not want anyone at Mavis to touch my car. They withheld the information from me that they damaged and replaced a sensor, and now, I am supposed to trust them to do something else? I am now going to have to purchase a sensor for approx. $100.00 and have it replaced for approx. $20-30 because of unethical and incompetent employees at Mavis.

Once it was evident that I had tires from another place, Brian said, "We got your tires in the next da., I overnighted them because of the mix-up earlier." I asked him “Why hasn't anyone called me to inform me that these tires are in since no one at Mavis knew I had gone elsewhere? It's now three business days after the supposed snow tires that were overnighted have arrived and no has called me to come in." He had no answer. On 12/5/12, I took my car to Mavis because my check engine light was on, I needed an inspection and the car was shifting hard between 10 mph. I took it in and spoke to the manager, Freddy. I told him my problem and he said that they will take a look at my car and will call me later. Later that day, Freddy called me up and told me that he had his mechanic check my car and he said that my engine mounts were causing me to shift rough. He told me that I had to replace them and that will fix the problem. Freddy also had other services done totaling $1,059.02. With the check engine light, he said that he doesn't know what it is and it's some miscellaneous code. He would reset it. He told me that I had to leave my car overnight and pick it up tomorrow.

On 12/6/12, I stopped by Mavis after work around 6 pm to pick up my car. Freddy said that he replaced my engine mounts and that will fix the problem with my car shifting rough, and to drive the car for 50 miles and if the check engine light doesn't come back on, then I can get my inspection done. Once I left Mavis store, about 5 minutes driving, the check engine light came back on and the car was shifting rough again. In addition, now the car really vibrates when the car is idle! Unbelievable, I go into the car shop to get things fixed and come out with more problems.

On 12/7/12, I called him up and tell him the problem is not fixed. So Freddy tells me to come by and he will check it out. I stopped by around 1 pm and he and I get in my car and he drives it and the problem is still there like I said. Freddy tells me that the car shifts fine which is not true. Then I asked him I thought with the engine mounts changed, it would fix that problem. Freddy now tells me that it's a compound problem with my check engine light on and tells me that he's not an expert and doesn't know what that code is. Then, why did he tell me that after I change the engine mount, my shifting harsh problem would be fixed?!

The guy lied to me and is now brushing me off after he charged me over $1,000! He then asked me if I have a regular mechanic I go to and I tell him no. He tells me he can refer me to a mechanic he knows that can look at it. No thank you! He rips me off already and now wants me to go somewhere else! He tells me that my engine was moving before and it isn't now so that's why my car vibrates more now when it idles. What a bunch of **! This guy promises to fix my problem but he doesn't even know what he is talking about! I ask him to show me what the code is for the check engine light so he goes and get this device and shows me a code. It is P2716 Pressure Control Solenoid D Electrical.

I go home and look up the code online and it is "Some 2005 - 2007 model year Corolla and Matrix vehicles equipped with an automatic transaxle may exhibit a harsh shift condition". That is exactly my car issue! I guess Freddy was too busy to look up what the code is if he doesn't know and goes to make random repairs on cars and rips people off! If he doesn't know what the problem is, he shouldn't have told me that by changing the engine mounts, it would fix the problem. There is a bulletin on this concern and it is a warrantable condition for 8 years or 80,000 miles so you are still covered by the factory warranty. I called up the Toyota Service Center and my car is covered under warranty to fix this issue.

On 12/15/12, I took my car into Toyota Service Center and I told them the same problem I told Freddy. The service center replaced the ECU in my car which fixed the hard shifting problem and I told them about the car vibrating a lot when it idles. They told me it was the front right side engine mount. After they replaced that, the vibration when the car idles stopped! This proves that Freddy from Mavis ripped me off! He charged me to replace me engine mounts but he didn't even do that because after Toyota changed it, the problem went away!

Freddy from Mavis lied to me and charged me for repairs which he claimed would fix my problem but didn't. When I confront him about it, he changes his story and tells me it's a "compound" issue with the check engine light. Well, if it's a compound problem and you don't know if changing the engine mount will fix my problem, then why did you tell me so and charged me for it?! Oh by the way, I recorded the conversation I had with him on 12/7/12, when he checked my car again and gave me his ** excuse. Good thing I recorded it because he lied to me and made it seem like what he fixed on my car would resolve my problem.

Intentional Damage - I bought four new Michelins from Mavis Tire. I also provided two new wheels. This is a summary of the errors. The tech didn’t read the repair order and began to install the new tires on the wrong wheels. After I pointed this out. The tech put the old wheels away in the trunk; he forgot to remove the tire pressure sensors from the old wheels. This was a newer car with a tire pressure monitoring system. Upon notifying the supervisor of this, the store realized that they didn’t have enough tire valves for my TPMS system, so I waited about 1 hour for them to arrive. The tech put all 4 wheels in the wrong position on the car so the TPMS needed to be re-calibrated, but the store had no recalibration equipment.

I asked the tech to please use a torque wrench rather than a torque stick. The manager tried to help with this, but was called away frequently and the tech was now very disgruntled, complaining loudly. Immediately upon leaving the store, the car’s on-board computer told me that three of the tires had 37 pounds of air and one had 32. The car manufacturer recommends 30 pounds. After all of this, I elected to have a well-respected local repair shop perform the alignment. They were the next place I visited. The alignment shop identified damage to all 4 wheels that required the replacement of two and the replacement of every single lug nut. The damage was so severe that shreds of metal could be seen on many lug nuts and wheels. They were severely over-tightened. Mavis agreed to replace two of the wheels and all of the lug nuts but I had to bring these items to another store for installation and I had to pay that bill.

Today, the brand new Michelins shake. The alignment shop told me that they’re out-of-round. I took the car to another Mavis store who told me that three of the wheels were improperly balanced. This was about 1 day later. Today, the tires bounce when they're cold. Mavis states that's because of a bent wheel. However, the wheels are brand-new, just removed from the box yesterday. They were purchased because Mavis told me that the original wheels were bent. Since it's not likely for the wheels to cause a bounce that goes away after the tires warm-up (within 10 minutes), I’ve contacted Michelin on their 800 number. They’ve agreed to replace them at any other shop. Unfortunately the alignment shop doesn’t handle Michelins so Dunn Tire was contacted. Dunn Tire refused to help because I didn't buy the tires from them. I’m very tempted to just go out and buy a new car.

I bought 4 snow tires for 2 different vehicles and paid to have them studded. I did not have them mounted cause I went to a salvage yard to get rims for them. I am a mechanic at a large vehicle fleet and have all the equipment to do tires. After mounting the tires myself and balancing them myself, found that they needed massive amount of weight to get them to balance, looked for a reason.

The guy at the shop didn't finish studding the tires and left empty spots of not stud holes causing the tire to be out of balance. I went back the next morning to tell them what had happens and they made me weight in line to finish studding. 2 hours later, they told me not only were there missing studs but they were the wrong studs and would require new tires. 1 more hour goes by and they give me the tires back stating that they were unbalanced when they got them intact. I balanced them myself 12 hours before.

I took my car to Mavis Tire in Yorktown Heights, NY to get inspected. They told me I needed new wipers, I know they don't make money on inspections and will always find something to pad the bill and you should really change the wipers every year. Then the guy told me my brakes were barely legal and should be replaced along with the rotors. I had just put new brakes and ground my rotors 3 weeks ago. I went home and checked and my pads were well over 1/4 inch thick and the rotors were pristine. I never let on to him that I knew he was trying to screw me over. He didn't know he was talking to someone who knows about cars and that I was on to him from square one. He didn't get me with his scam, but how many people has he screwed like that. This wasn't trying to pad the bill, it was out and out him trying to rip me off big time.

Fortunately, he didn't screw me because I was a lot smarter than he thought, but I'm sure a lot of people have been screwed by them before and will be in the future.

Friday, 22 July 2011 after 5 pm, Mavis Tires in Kingston, NY replaced my rear tires, brake pads and rotors (a rear tire blew a couple of hours earlier). During the subsequent week the Subaru dealer worked on my power steering, replacing a knuckle). This work entailed the front of the car.

On 24 September 2011 at 5 pm, while driving 40 mph, my rear left tire fell off. The rear of the car suffered damage because it bounced on the road. The tire was wedged under the guard rail. It was luck no person was hurt.

When I called Mavis Tire, not only were they unsympathetic, they were unprofessional. They told me to rent a car, it was my problem and they opened at 8 am on Monday. On Monday they refused to look at the car, told me the dealer must have done something when they worked on the power steering. Many hours later and after the dealer replaced the wheel and ensured that the car was safe again; it was evident that Mavis had not done something correctly. And it most likely entails not cleaning the wheel and mechanisms when they did their work on the tire/brake pads/rotors. The dealer said there was considerable crud that had not been cleaned off so the tire installation had not been flat. The subsequent breakdown of the crud and ensuing vibration took time to result in lug nuts flying off, stripped and broken screw posts. Mavis Tires said they reviewed their video and that they completed the work correctly, but they refused to let me see the video.

Do not go to Mavis Tires in Kingston, NY for anything.

I was let go from Mavis tire and was given no reason, but the manager in-charge told me the higher ups in N.Y. were watching me on camera and didn't think that I was going to work out. Now, I was there for three week. I left a good gob to take the one at Mavis, and now, I have nothing; no job and with a family to take care of, and not much out there for work. This puts me in a bad place. In the three weeks that I worked there, I did great work with no returns, making my quota for the week. Also, the manager told me that I was doing a good work and that the higher ups didn't know how I was really working and it was a mistake for letting me go.

On June 25, 2011 I purchased 2 Front tires for my 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser. On July 26, 2011 whikle my husband was driving to a job site in NYC, the left front tire exploded on the Saw Mill River Parkway near Yonkers NY. He hadn't run over anything, or run thru a pothole, so he was quite suprised!!

He called for road service to change the tire to the donut as he is handicapped & this was beyond his physical capabilities. He then followed the service truck into Yonkers and went to a local used tire shop, as he didn't want to drive all the way into NYC then back home on the donut.

Upon returning to Mavis in Thornwood that night, they said that we must have hit a pothole, which we assured them wasn't the case. They then told us that they would have a new tire at 8 AM the next morning.

When he went back there this morning, they basically disavowed any responsibility for the tire failing and we had no option but to pay for another tire.

I brought my 2004 Pacifica to Mavis Auto on 11/19/10 due to front end noise, clunking on the front end when going over a bump. I was informed by their manager that the vehicle needed extensive front end work, tie rods, shocks engine mounts and struts. I trusted his advice and informed him to go ahead and change it.

I then received a phone call that night that my vehicle is ready but that they broke my power steering hose and that they will not be able to replace it until the following day. I stated that as long as it is fixed by tomorrow, it's fine. About 30 minutes later, someone else called me back and said that my car is now ready. I then questioned about my power steering hose and I was told that the car is fine, "We bypassed the system. It works and that the part will be in this week and we will call you to bring the vehicle back." I picked up the vehicle that night and I still have the same clunking noise coming from under my car. It seems that they did not fix anything.

I went there the next morning and questioned them about the noise and they said that when they changed the power steering hose that they will look at it again. They called me within two weeks and told me to bring the car back so they can change the hose and look at it. They then changed the hose and told me that the car needed new stabilizers on both ends and that they would pay for the parts and all I had to do is pay for the labor. I agreed. Now when I returned the car again, I was told that the car needed differentials and that they are unable to fix this problems and that is where the clunking noise is coming from. So now I'm wondering why I paid $1494.48 for work done to my car that there was no need for. When I questioned them, they looked at me as if I did something wrong.

I purchased three new tires from Mavis in NY before driving back to my home in Montana. Within 24 hours the front left tire was low. I suspected they did not mount it correctly. Since I was traveling across the US, I stopped once or twice a day and put air in it. When I arrived home I took the rim and tire to my local Pro Tire and they told me that whoever had mounted the new tire cracked my rim and it could not be repaired.

When I contacted the Peekskill store, I was transferred three different times before reaching the manager who told me that it was my "misfortune" for not still being in NY where they could see the rim. I asked for an email address to send the pictures to and was directed to "Mavis.com", which by the way, was not an email address and their message system does not allow pictures to be attached to messages. I took pictures and sent them to the District office after speaking to a District Manager. A man by the name of Joel took my complaint, but insisted that they did nothing wrong. (I had also taken the rim and tire to another company locally, Tire Rama, and they also told me that the damage was done by whoever mounted the tire.)

Joel was rude, abrupt, unprofessional, downright hostile, and would not let me speak on the phone. He interrupted me, spoke over me, and mocked me like I was an idiot. He kept saying the rim was rusted (by the way even I know that aluminum rims don't rust!) and pitted. I live on a red dirt road and I did not clean the rim before taking the picture so that he could see the fresh, new damaged marks on it for himself. There are long scratches, hammer marks and bent spots along the edge from the tech trying to "fix" the damage he did. When I brought the car in, the bad tire was holding air just fine and I didn't encounter a problem with it until after they mounted the new tire.

These people ruined an Infinity rim for my car and refuse to repair or replace it. Now I can not drive my car until I find a new or used rim. I am still trying to see what I can do about them replacing or repairing my rim.

Don't ever trust them with your car. It is just a bunch of young, inexperienced, untrained people that are working on your car. What's worse, the fact that they are so rude and pompous to believe that people will continue to do business with them even after episodes like this. In these economic times they should be trying to get or keep customers, not chase them away.

I purchased 4 tires. Two of the rear tires were hand tightened causing them to malfunction on the expressway. This almost caused a catastrophic accident that could have resulted in a fatal accident to my family. I had to be towed off the expressed and had to pay for this service. My concern is that the work done was unprofessional and could in the near future lead to an accident.
