We’ve only been on Vivint solar panels for about a month and a half. Everything went smooth with the enrollment but I had a problem after installation. The HOA said there were some things that did not pass. The only contact I had was the Vivint rep so I was trying to get a hold of him to see who I can reach out to. But my rep didn’t call me back. A week and a half later, somebody called me back and got the issue with HOA fixed. With Vivint, it’s more of a communication problem. I don’t know who to talk to about certain things. And when I do call, it’s confusing to them too ‘cause I have their alarm system and it doesn’t seem like they talk to each other. But everything’s been good up until the issues I ran to. I’ve seen my first electric bill is only $6 but my Vivint bill was a little higher than normal, though according to them, that’s normal.

We had a neighbor who was doing solar with Vivint. My husband was speaking with that neighbor, how they felt that solar worked for them. Then by chance, somebody had come by the house. We tried it to see if it was going to save money, if it was going to be more helpful with the energy, like an environmental type situation. The company came out to install the plates on the roof and they were very polite and respectful. They cleaned up anything they had. They didn’t leave anything behind. So far, we haven't had any issues and my husband and I are satisfied. The rate that we pay on electricity, is cheaper than when we were just doing Eversource.

A lot of neighbors are getting Vivint Solar, and I wanted to save some money at the long term with the energy being a little bit cheaper. I spoke with a sales person from Vivint and he was cool. He did a good job explaining everything. It’s been two months and I’m satisfied. If only they could be a little bit cheaper, it’d be great. But everything has been good so far. Everybody who went to our house wanna get their job in and get it good.

My bill was big enough to qualify so I went with Vivint Solar a little over a month ago and might as well save a few bucks. It was a clean, fairly quiet and very good procedure. A Vivint representative explained the whole system and once I agreed, a gentleman came out, went up in the attic and checked to see where the joints were so the panels would be attached properly. Spent two hours measuring where the light was good then he left. It was only three or four days later then he came out and started doing the installation job for a day. Within a week or two, someone from the city came out and was met here by a member from Vivint and inspected to ensure that it met all the requirements.
About 10 days later after the last inspection, they called up and SDG&E said I was clear to go ahead and throw the switch. Everybody that came here was really polite and knew what they were doing and answered any questions I had so I was really happy with them. However, the hardest thing to do was to get anyone believe there's no expense involved. You're not buying it, it belongs to them and all you're doing is sign a contract for 25 years to indicate that you will continue to use the solar power. If for some reason you decide to move to another house, they will take if off the roof and put it on your other home free of charge. If you decide to have the roof replaced while the panels are there, you pay whatever it would cost to have it removed and placed back on after the roof is installed. They'll do it but all you're paying is the labor cost.
If you sell your house, you have to get the person buying it to agree to pick up the remainder of your contract and if a person coming in is going to save money, why would he not want to do it? They installed the whole thing and I didn't pay a dime out and you're paying less per kilowatt hour than you would be with SDG&E and there's no doubt that SDG&E got four or five rate increases in the mill so it's going to get a lot more expensive. You're paying whatever the panels produce so bills are going to be high in the summer than in the winter. Summer time you're producing a lot and you may not be using it as much, then winter time you're still using the same amount, but you're not producing near as much electricity so you're using banked electricity. You have to look at the whole year to determine what your average cost would be and how much you're saving. It's very good and I definitely recommend them.

I was looking at solar energy and I was looking at many places. When Tony, my agent from Vivint Solar came to my house I liked what he offered over the others. I liked the price too and Tony said that they have incentives so decided to go with them. I had good experience with Tony. Enrolling with Vivint was very smooth and the people were good. There was a time when I called about when they'll put the panels on. I didn't know when he was going to start the inspection but Tony kept me updated on where the process was.
The panels were put in May and the installation went fine. They said they're going to be here and they were, and they did their work on time. So far it's been good. And when the bill comes, I will see how the performance is. I have to check for it based on what gets covered in my energy usage. The only thing right now is I haven't gotten the incentive yet. Tony said it's within 45 days but it's been way over 45 days. Other than that, it's been a good experience.

There was a representative by the name of Nathan that stopped by the house in 2012 and that's how my father originally found out about Vivint. Nathan upsold it and made it sound very enjoyable and totally beneficial. However, my father's not a fan of it. It was told to us when we initially got the panels that we were renting to own. But once they came out and installed the panels, it was null and void. We couldn't do anything after that and we didn't find out until afterward that I'm a third party. We're renting them from Vivint but after 30 years they should be paid in full.
My father was in his early 80s at the time and he has the overall say, but I help him along the way. We were knowledgeable that we still have to pay Vivint 80% and Southern California Edison 20%. Before my dad even had Solar, he was paying about $234 to Southern California Edison. It's been issues after issues and when it comes to energy, we're not able to save.
Then a year and a half later, they came back to sell more panels and my dad agreed upon it. He signed the contract for additional panels. Now, his whole roof is filled with panels and we had issues on top of issues regarding the second account. Last month, we finally started paying on the account and then I received emails, which is totally understandable. In the spring and summer months, our solar bill's gonna be high because of the sun, and in the winter, it’s always cheaper. It hasn't been beneficial because still, at end of the 11th anniversary month, we still owe Southern California Edison a tremendous amount of money. Luckily, I keep that credited. We bought a lemon and we signed a contract to a lemon.
Hi Gretchen, We'd like to help resolve some of your concerns with your system's performance. Can you please message us or send us an email to socialmedia@vivintsolar.com with your father's address or account number. Thank you!

We always wanted solar energy services because I hate PSE&G or LOCA. Their rates are outrageous and it's ridiculous to pay all that money so we went with Vivint Solar. I had a few panels for five months and then they came back recently to put up the whole bunch more. So far, I'm happy with it, better than PSE&G, and I'm hoping it saves me more money because right now I am saving money but not a whole ton. Enrollment was a long experience and you're going to do something to get you certified. You had to get the stuff from the town and have the PSE&G come to put in a new meter. It takes a good six months from the start for you to even get any solar through your line but it's worth it. Vivint did everything and it was an easy process, it was just the waiting time.
At the very, very beginning when the first ones were put up, something that was attached to the computer must have been a bad one or caused it to start a fire and the fire department had to come, but thank God nothing was burnt except the outlet which had to be replaced. But Vivint was very good about it, replaced it and paid for a new router. Everything was good and they took care of it. Everybody was very friendly, kind, nice and helpful.

My wife spoke to a rep about solar energy and she was especially interested and she mentioned it to me. We got Vivint and the rep did his presentation. It was a really good idea. Their process was all fine and we didn't really have any problems at all. The only delays that came about were due to the time rather than Vivint. We had to wait for various permissions and inspections. But every time Vivint needed to do something, they just did it straight away. The customer service was very good too. When we had to change the installation date for some reason, we did that very easily. At the moment, we're very satisfied. I just got my first bill on it and it's a lot lower by about half of what I would normally be paying at this time of the year. It was very good experience. Everybody, from the guy who sold it and the people who installed it, were all very nice, polite and pleasant. I'd certainly recommend them.

My husband’s been wanting to go solar for a long time so we were getting bids from different companies. Vivint was doing a door-to-door and we liked their bid the best. We also knew the name and that they have the security services, and so we knew they would be around for a while. Unlike some of the others that popped up six months ago and we don't know them.
During enrollment, their employees were very professional and nice. Signing up was easy too. Then they installed everything for us. It kept snowing, so we had three teams come out and they were all nice. We've been with Vivint Solar for two months now and we've barely even gotten our second electric bill yet. But so far, we like it. We’re just hoping that the air conditioning cost for our big house is offset this summer.

It’s not been a good situation with Vivint Solar. They put on solar panels a couple of years ago but it wasn’t really enough. They didn’t put on what they said they were going to. I knew about them after they came doing door-to-door in our neighborhood, offering free solar. We did look into solar energy before that and we were always told that our bills weren’t high enough. It really wasn’t cost-effective to buy solar so we decided we weren’t going to, until Vivint Solar came with free units. However, the units don’t belong to us. Vivint gets the right from PG&E.
Also, enrolling with Vivint Solar was kind of vague. We really didn’t know what we were getting into, and we didn’t really understand what was going on. There is a fee that we paid that’s quite high to PG&E, as part of our bill, for having solar basically. It’s confusing whether we’re really saving any money or not. I guess instead of really saving money, we are just paying it out a different way. The customer service is courteous, but it's hard since there's so many different offices, phone numbers, and people you deal with that you don’t know who you’re dealing with, for what. I’m not happy with it, and you have to pay a lot of money to get rid of it. It’s partially our fault that we didn’t really research it enough.

My brother-in-law told me how the solar energy service was working and I thought if it works that way, then I'll go for it. I went with Vivint Solar and their enrollment was very simple. I asked them through email about how to turn on the service and they gave me the information I was looking for right away. So far, I’m satisfied and I'm seeing what I thought it would but I would have a better estimate of how well it’s working after a year. If anyone was looking at going solar, I would tell them to look into Vivint Solar.

A Vivint Solar rep walked and knocked on our front door, giving us the different options. We decided to go with it, and we're very satisfied. With the air conditioning and the pool, our electric bill was running around $450 a month in the summer, but when we got our first electric bill from Vivint, it was $16. Everything's working great. We had different interactions with the Vivint team, including the guys that came to do the installation as well as the supervisor that came by and checked, and every single one of them was absolutely amazing. When the supervisor didn't like a couple of things, he had the installation crew back out within an hour. I don't know that I've ever seen customer service as good as they have provided. They just went above and beyond, and they're wonderful.

I wanted to lower my bill and also because they were still giving the rebates so I decided to go solar. It was an easy enrollment process with Vivint Solar and the customer service was excellent. They were able to answer all of my questions except for how the payment is gonna be going. They explained it to the best of their knowledge and maybe I’m slow and didn’t get it but I want to find out whether or not the whole amount was gonna be due with the first taxes that come out at the end of this year. They said I need to set aside a certain amount of money a month until that time, but that’s not gonna be enough so I’m still gonna be short. Also, since it hasn’t been added to my line of taxes yet, there’s no way for me to find out any information from the registrar’s office.
But the people that came out to install were very good. They cleaned up and they told me the things that I needed to know as far as when I could turn it on and who’s gonna be calling me. They did it all in one day, which I didn’t think it was gonna happen but it did. However, I haven’t had any information back from it yet because from what I understand, I wouldn’t know if it’s really working for me until 12 months. I no longer get a bill from my electric company until the end of the year. Nevertheless, it was a very pleasant experience overall.

I already have Vivint Security Systems when someone from Vivint Solar came to my door. He was very convincing. Going solar was a smart thing to do and it's going to be the smart thing in the future. There was a problem with Pacific Gas and Electric which made the process difficult but it's not because of Vivint. The service provided by Vivint was incredible.
There was a young man in Utah that I called the higher ups about because he deserves compensation for everything he did for me. He called PG&E himself. He arranged conference calls and did everything he possibly could to expedite it because I couldn't use it until this process was done. It would make me a whole lot happier if someone would do something about this young man that helped me. If Vivint wants to keep its customers, it better keep young men like him on the payroll and compensate him for going the extra mile. Because had he not been able to do what he did, I still wouldn't be hooked up to the solar.

Beware when signing a contract for solar panels with this company. The salesman will tell you that you are paying said amount for your electric usage. The fact is you will be charged for the energy the panels produce. Does no good shutting lights off or trying to conserve energy to save money. As long as the sun's shining you're paying.

A friend of mine told me about Vivint Solar and I signed up for it for the savings that I might get. It's been up for almost two months but when the bill came, there was about $20 savings which was not that much. Enrolling with Vivint Solar was also a long process. Plus the panels don't work when it's cloudy. The sun has to shine on it. And then at about 5:00, there's a tree next door that's really tall and it blocks the sunlight. Nevertheless, it works and I'm satisfied with it. My neighbor asked about it and I recommended it. Also, my interaction with customer service was great. The guy who came out was really nice and explained the process to me.

I acquired panels on my roof during 2015. Since then to the present, I have had nothing but problems with the system. The company put a system on that's used on the west coast and it has been useless since it's been installed. I've had several tech reps and none of them have been able to fix it on a permanent basis. Only temporary fixes. I've been calling since April 2017 about it not working again and they have not been responsive. Their customer service is terrible.

Vivint Solar's salesman came to our door and we agreed to speak with him. I never do that but he was very pleasant and we enjoyed him. He was quite responsive. He was always in contact with us by text or phone call or coming by the house to sign whatever paperwork. He was frequently checking in with us and giving us status reports. Then I hadn't heard from him in quite some time so I reached out to him and didn't get a reply. About a month later, I reached out again and he replied that he had left Vivint and he was sorry to hear that we weren't getting any response. Since then, we have had no progress.
We put solar on two houses. We started this house which is our primary residence eight months ago and I still don't have a working solar on my house. We agreed to have solar put on our rental house and it has been up and running for about six weeks now, and it started two months after this house. My husband was calling every other day for a while and they would have a different answer as to why. One guy I spoke with was completely non-sympathetic. He told us we are well within the 45 to 60-day range. We told him we are out of that range and he was argumentative saying that those are business days. I told him we were installed on February 23rd and more than 45 to 60 days have passed since then. He just kept coming back to saying we are within their acceptable range. It's like a robot thing over and over again.
Other than him, everybody else has been sympathetic and has been telling us they'd have a supervisor call us. But nobody ever calls. Finally, three days since our last call, a supervisor called. She told us that it was their back office quality assurance review team that was holding things up. Then she asked us to give her two weeks to fix it. Now, one week has passed and I've not heard a word from her. The impact that all of this has on our household is severe because I understand the way solar works. We were told initially to expect our solar up and running by March and we thought that was great. For March, April, and part of May, we'd be able to collect a lot more solar that we could bank so that when the summer heat hits, we'll have some banked energy to use before we start using our air conditioner in June.
We have six neighbors who asked us how was the solar that we got installed six months ago by Vivint Solar going and we told them to call somebody else. We have other neighbors who have gone with SolarCity or other installers who have surpassed us in the process and all the neighbors who were asking us for opinions are now going with SolarCity. We may start to forget this frustration once we get our solar up and running, but it's been a nightmare with Vivint Solar. They are non-responsive. They're leaving it to their salespeople. And when the salespeople are no longer available, you just don't get serviced. They're not concerned about the customer and we are unsatisfied.

We’re happy that we went solar. However, when we initially got everything put in, there were holes in our walls and the guy had just left the house. We had to call and try to figure that part out, which wasn’t a big deal. The customer care took care of everything. They were also with any questions that we had as well. Also, somebody else had to come back out because our system had to be moved. So there were a few little hiccups.
It was also a couple of months before we got our solar panels installed. We had some issues with inspections and the weather. I started looking into it in December. After we got everything on and everything, we still had to wait on inspections and the county inspector had to come on certain days before they could turn everything on. Our appointment wasn’t until February. Other than that, my husband noticed that the kilowatts that we generate have been pretty good with SolarCity. We are happy with the service.

I've always wanted to get solar energy services and I wanted to save money from electricity. I was very satisfied to go solar with Vivint Solar however, there's been a lot of hiccups in the enrolling process. It took a month to get a callback from the rep and the customer portion of having to activate the system and trying to get an answer was horrible. They said the system was ready to go by December but it didn't get turned on until last month.
Several reps also gave me different information. They told me that my electric company is Edison but I told them it was San Diego Gas & Electric. And then a couple of reps said they’d call me back but they never did. I was always the one initiating the status update and then I had a female rep argue with me. Overall, I would recommend them, but as far as experience-wise with the staffing, I wouldn't recommend them.

We looked into solar energy services because of the cost to us. At our age, we can't afford to put in a system and pay for it upfront because it would take forever to pay for it and we don't have that many years left. We got one bill toward the end of last month and what we got from Vivint Solar was about $5. So far, it's been good with them and I got no complaints. The enrollment was a long process but other than that, the process itself was easy.

We’ve had some Vivint Solar panels installed for about two years. When they contacted us and asked us if we wanted to put on additional panels on the back of the house, they said that would help us to generate more energy and the more energy we generate from the panels, the less energy we’d have to pay our utility company. They said they had these newer and more improved panels. Now my whole house is covered with panels so we’re expecting to see hardly no bill at all from our normal utility company.
However, I now have two bills with Vivint Solar and we still have our Pepco bill. Vivint Solar takes two separate amounts from my account every month and I don’t like that part. I should have just one consolidated bill. Also, the new bill that’s come on is considerably higher than the old one. I called them the other day and told them that I was trying to figure out why we had two separate bills and why one was so much higher than the other. Their customer service reps were knowledgeable but they cannot merge the two accounts. They said when they put on the second set of panels, that was under a separate account. They also said that the second set of panels were brand-new and it needed some time to build up some energy for that account but they would do an analysis that we wanted them to do.
They also said that the panels are storing up energy and we might see the biggest savings during the winter months. I told them it’s the summer months when we have the air conditioning on when we need the savings. I have savings during the winter months anyway when my gas kicks in. The guy also told me that the bill would probably be higher during the summer because the other bill is also higher during the summer.
But so far, the service has been okay because our utility bill appeared to be less for last year which was the first full year we were into it. A lot of people saw the panels on the house and they stopped and wanted to know how do we like the panels and were they helping, etc. Because of the new set of panels with a higher bill than the old one, we told them we’re not quite sure yet. At this point I'm not sure what’s happening or whether we’re saving anything or not. We'll wait and see. But we like the solar idea. We believe in the program and hope that it’s gonna work for us. We have recommended Vivint Solar to a lot of people.

I have looked into solar energy services a couple of times to be environment friendly. A rep reached out to me at the Home Improvement store and wanted to talk but we didn't feel that there was enough conduction in terms of electricity that would be beneficial for us to invest in solar. We already have Vivint as our security system and we didn't know that they have a solar energy service. Their rep who knocked on our door was good and I liked that it's zero out-of-pocket with Vivint Solar. I'm just buying solar energy from them. That was the more attractive part for me as opposed to buying the solar panel, paying the cost, and getting credit. That would be too much for me to handle.
However, enrolling with Vivint Solar took a long time. The channels of communication seemed to be broken. There were minor organizational things that could be improved and there were a lot of different steps that seemed unnecessary which could easily be fixed on Vivint's side. For example, they gave me a time window for the first inspection where the experts would come and look at the house but nobody showed up. Then somebody called after the window time frame and told me they could not come. The appointment had to be rescheduled. That kind of situation made me a little upset.
Later on, I needed to follow up to move into the next step every single time so that was kinda frustrating. And when the final email that I can already turn the service on came, there were pictures of what to do but the pictures weren't showing. It was just a text. It's technical and I could turn the wrong thing on. I tried to reply to them and call them and they said they can't do anything. I forwarded the email to my rep and he said he can't see the pictures either. To this day, they never responded. These kinda small things made me nervous about the decision before the solar service started. But once it started, there hasn't been any concern. I could not yet see the economic impact because we have to pay the whole year, but so far, so good. I don't have any complaints in terms of interaction with their customer service. The people were decent and nice. They were professional all the time. I'll recommend Vivint Solar but with caution to be patient.

One week after the guy did the estimate for them, James called me saying they will only pay $500.00 for the damages they caused to my roof. Half of the house is leaking. From the kitchen to our bathroom and my bedroom. I don't think that the amount of damage they caused only cost $500.

I wanted to save on my electric bill so I decided to get some solar energy services from Vivint Solar. They're a good company, and their enrolling process was easy. They had a nice, young lady that came around and introduced herself as Alexis and told me all about the program. She did everything for me. She and everybody else that I have talked to have been very pleasant. The first set of solar panels were done last year and were put in for almost 6 months as they had to jump through everything to get me turned on. The second set, on the other hand, was done within two months. It took them that long because of BGE and the state of Maryland. There was a little bit of change in my bill but I'm satisfied. I already recommended Vivint Solar to a friend.

I’ve always been interested in solar energy and I have been looking at it quite seriously. It was easy to enroll with Vivint Solar but it’s been a very difficult road with them. The installation on my house lowered the value of my home. It looked like a commercial installation that should have never been on the side of the roof of a residential home and it was terrible. There is conduit running all over my roof and the pipe and panels weren’t even straight. The databox is still sitting in my living room and they still haven’t finished that. It’s not even mounted on the wall. It’s literally sitting on top of the magazines in my magazine rack. It was ridiculous. I asked them when they came in where they would normally mount it. They said they don’t and they were coming back to do that but I haven’t seen them.
The solar panel installations done by SolarCity or by other solar companies are done in one complete flat surface whereas those done by Vivint, even though as shown in the diagram that there are hold-down clips, they stick up and above the surface of the panels so it looks awful. I begged them to change it. They’re like, “No, no, that’s our mounting system and we don’t do it that way.” I pressed them very hard to get them to fix things. They did and it looks better with the changes they’ve done but it is certainly not the nicest, smooth and clean look that you would see when you drive down the road and you look at a solar installation. I was not being a difficult customer, it was just that it looked horrible and had I gone to court with it, I would’ve had a problem in a courtroom. But that’s not what I wanted to get accomplished.
When I look at my neighbor’s, it looks great. It’s a single, flat plane. It doesn’t look anything like that. They have done a lot of extra work but they still haven’t corrected them. We found a way that we could run all of the conduit into my attic space but if I would have gotten out of the contract with them if I could. I saw on the paper drawing these bonding clips, I figured it’s for electrical bonding or grounding and I had no problem with that but I had no idea these things stick up. When I asked them if we can change the mounting system with the same thing that the Solar City uses, they would not use a different mounting system and they told me, “Oh, that’s proprietary to SolarCity.” It’s not. It’s Vivint's preferred mounting system.
Jim, the territory manager, was awesome. He did a great job but there were other people that were very difficult to deal with and so finally, they were insistent on turning it on. I told Martin, their regional manager, “You’re not turning this on in my property until this is finished.” And he said, “Well, we can’t do the work until it’s on.” I said, “Absolutely not. Why would I go ahead and give you the authorization to go live with this thing then I lose my leverage and I hate to say it that way but that’s really what it comes down to.” If they would put into writing what they were going to do then I would allow them to turn it on live. So they did and got it running live. They got Jim, a contractor for roof work, and he was fantastic. He replaced shingles and did holes into the roof. He was awesome.
It was not a professional set up. I was very disappointed and I was so angry when I saw it and it took me over 8 months to come to an agreement with them to change it. It was installed last August but I finally let them turn it on April of this year. The only reason why I didn’t go with SolarCity is because Vivint was offering a lower rate and I thought I was getting the same system.
I would tell anybody in my street not to go with Vivint and make the mistake I did. I’ve been considering putting it on their website and their Facebook page so that nobody gets ambushed like I did. I was very dissatisfied. They did come back and took care of it but I couldn’t in good faith recommend this to anybody. To this day, if anybody ask me, “Hey, would you use Vivint Solar even though it’s on your roof?” I would tell them, “No, don’t do it. Pay the extra little bit per kilowatt hour and use a different company that has a different mounting system so that it looks nice and clean.”
We're sorry that you were not pleased with the look of your system. It sounds like our team was able to fix the issues you had. If there are any other issues that you still need resolved, please message us on here or email us at socialmedia@vivintsolar.com. Thank you for leaving us your feedback!

I am a university instructor and over the years, I've had a couple of students who have worked with Vivint. And I approached one of them but he was not in that area. But he gave me information and told me a little bit about it. Then, during another semester, I ended up with another student who was in the solar. And at the end of the semester, when he was no longer my student, I approached him on it.
I’m satisfied with my decision to go solar but I’m very dissatisfied with the process. We began the process in July of a year ago and we met with Bryan and his supervisor Tyler. We went over things and talked about it. Then they drawn out plans for what they'd propose for the panels and that process was very long. Then they finally came back but the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing at the company. There was a lot of runaround between the two. Finally, they said, "Okay. This is approved." But nothing was happening. Then said, "Well, you can't do that because this has to be done." And that went on for a quite a while.
Finally, things got approved and then we were told that before they could do anything with the panels, we have to replace our tar and gravel roof first. And they said, they absolutely would not install on tar and gravel. My parents bought this home brand-new when I was eight years old. So, it's 56 years old. We knew it was within a couple of years of needing to be replaced anyway. So, we went ahead and discussed that process.
The roofing company entered into an agreement with Vivint that they would cover the cost of the roof and write it into the cost to be written into my contract. Then the roofers were scheduled to come and do the roof but at the last minute, the appointment got canceled because Vivint didn't have permits. They rescheduled for a few weeks out but Vivint still didn't have the permits. But I was told at that point that the roofers got permits to do the roofing that had nothing to do with Vivint's permits. So, I was not pleased that we had pushed that back. And then, we had to have our permits closed for the salesperson to get paid. They had to have their payment within a couple of weeks when there was time. And then I found out that the roofers didn't get paid for 45 days. I contacted Vivint and I got a response back saying that they have a process they follow to pay.
We're also trying to get the solar done so that it would be on last year's taxes. But it’s getting pushed back and back and then they would say, "Well, we don't have permits from the city yet." And I finally said, "Why don't you go park yourself on their doorstep and find out why you don't have permits?" They said, "Oh, we don't want to offend them. And this is the first one in Murray that we've done." And I told them, "It's been two months. Go park yourself on their doorsteps." They walked out of there with the permits in hand. And so then, they said, "We're now scheduling three, four weeks out." Which now would mean it would be January before they would install. And I said, "This whole idea was that to get the state and the federal tax credit on this year's taxes." They finally came and then I was told, "Well, as long as they started, you can claim it." But I found out that wasn't true after the fact.
They finally got the panels up after a period of time but they still weren't operational. They told me, "Well, we have to go through this. We have to go through this series of inspections and back to be operational." Then they got somebody out from the city that was going to inspect. Vivint sent the worker out, and the window of time that they were given was that that they would be here somewhere between noon and 4:00 that day. But I found out that the worker who was sent out could only be here 'till 2:00. Otherwise, it would have put him into overtime. At 2:00, he left and didn't say a word to us. The inspector shows up at 3:45 and there's no paperwork so he couldn't do a thing about it. That man had to reschedule again to do the inspection. Then they set that up and got him back out here. He did the inspection and said, "Everything is great. Except as old as this house is... You got to have grounding poles. You don't have any grounding poles on this house." So, that had to be scheduled and the inspector had to be scheduled to come out the third time. We got that done and we passed the inspection.
By this point I have discovered that until I have permission to operate, I can't claim anything solar on my taxes. I know the federal got extended, so that I can claim the federal this year. But I don't know if the state expired at the end of the December. I may have lost the tax credit for the state. I also discovered that you don't get money back. Instead, you get a tax credit against whatever taxes you owe. So if you owe $9,000 in taxes, you can only claim for that year $9,000 towards the credit and it zeros the taxes you owe. There is no money that comes back to you. Only from what taxes you may have already paid. And then if you have more credits, you can claim it the following year. So, by not having the permission to operate, I ended up paying between state and federal taxes last year $4,500. We did not plan on paying anything because we had a couple of things that had to get done as well and we knew we were getting the tax credit. So we had to pull the money out of our retirement which we weren't penalize on but it could have sent a higher tax back.
At this point, we still did not have a permission to operate. All of the inspection was passed but we had to wait for the net meter. And it took several weeks for the net meter and I got notified that it was in and asked to go out and take pictures of it and to send in for verification. So I went out and looked but I didn't think it was a net meter. And it hadn't been installed yet. So I emailed the pictures and said, "I'm positive this is not the net meter. It doesn't look like the picture you sent and this looks very similar to what I already have." Then the day after that, the power company showed up and put the net meter in. By this point we made the first payment to Mosaic who got the contract, without even being live. We went operational towards the middle to end of last month. It took almost a year to complete.
I would recommend Vivint but I would also warn people about the process. I felt I was lied to. And I ended up getting corporate people because I started making phone calls the day the power company showed up and I had no tech here. I knew that he was there when my grandkids came home from school because they said, "Why is the Vivint truck out?" I said, "They're waiting." And then I turned around and there was no truck there. Then I called the power guy who gave me ten minutes of his time before he said, "I can't wait any longer."
And then when asked about, "Well, why didn't they just leave the paper?" I said, "If he had to leave, why not just leave me the paperwork?" Then corporate said, "Well, homeowners might lose it." I thought, I have a doctorate degree and I'm not going to lose paperwork. And then the power company said, "Why didn't they just put it in the panel box like other places do?" And the response is, "Well, it might get stolen." We have two large dogs here. Nobody is going to go into the backyard with the dogs loose. When we know people are coming, I always made sure I was here because of the dogs. I need to kennel the dogs in the house, so that people can work in the yard. The dogs are friendly as can be but scares the daylights out of everybody. This is why I'm always here.
Also, from once the blue states people came out, you have 7 or 14 days in which to do what you had to do. They were supposed to come out and do the grounding lugs but they didn't show up. I was here all day and I knew they had not come. But they didn't bother to tell me they hadn't come either. So I called the next day and said, "Wasn't somebody supposed to be out here yesterday?" And in looking at it, the person who was assigned either still didn't qualify or wasn't qualified to do it. But they didn't tell me a thing. This is the case where the technician just canceled the whole order rather than say something.
All this time my brother is saying I should have gone with the company he went with where the process took less than three months to complete. But I am happy with the panels. We've been up and my last month's electricity bill had a partial month of operation and my bill had dropped down to 60 some dollars. But Vivint definitely needs to work on communication. You don't lie to your customer and leave them in the dark.
We want to apologize for the lack of communication you experienced during the solar process. We know that this process can be a lengthy one, but we appreciate your patience. Thank you for the feedback you've provided, as it helps us to continue improving and make the customer experience as seamless as possible. Enrolling with Vivint Solar was pretty smooth. I completed the paperwork online. They asked what they say they would ask, so that was easy. And they did things when they said they would. The customer service was good. They were very easy to deal with and they got back to me quickly. I've had my solar panels operational for about two months now and I am satisfied with my decision to go solar. It was a great experience.

Our initial Vivint Rep was great and very helpful, after that it was downhill quickly. After months of waiting the system was finally operational or so we thought. Vivint's portal for us to monitor our panels output didnt work. After waiting literally hours on their terrible customer service lines they finally got a tech out. Seems wires were disconnected and installed incorrectly. At least our house didnt burn, one bright spot.
Next fiasco: Vivint bills us for $90... FOR THE MONTH THEIR SYSTEM WAS NOT WORKING! Fast forward a few months, system stops producing again. More time online waiting for hours, Tech finally dispatched. Tech says the panel had come loose and needed to be snapped into place. AGAIN WE RECEIVE A BILL FOR THE MONTH IT WAS NOT PRODUCING! We have decided this is our last go-round with Vivint, we will not contact or pay them until they call us and settle to our requests. My advice, do NOT use this company, if you are already stuck with these hacks, STOP PAYING THEM. Cut them off from auto pay, it is the only way they will contact you. We can only hope a class action lawsuit begins soon. They demand payment for not producing power, they ''Estimate'' costs of course always way over cost and in their favor. Their customer service is actually the worst I have ever experienced.

Some of the things I read said about Solar Vivint, "Watch what the salesman tells you and everything because it's not gonna be like that when you actually go live and everything." But, I was assured that the customer service and all that stuff had improved. That's why I chose them. They also sent me to ConsumerAffairs to verify that they were rated pretty fairly because I was looking at just Reddit online and there were a lot of negative stuff out. But ConsumerAffairs was a local one checking the local area and I saw good stuff. Everything was good but after the installation, I saw some things that should improve their customer service later on and now, I'm not 100% sure that I went with them. It's unfortunate but I'm locked in right now.
I did have a good experience with Vivint Solar. It's a self-install because they put that little orange plug on it. “Okay. Take the orange plug. Run the power on. Then turn the box on.” But there was a missing piece in the current instructions. It talked about one of the four electric pieces that was not in the instructions. I was worried about that because I didn’t see anything. It didn’t say about the meter. There was supposed to be a net meter in there and then something was done on the Pepco side or with the existing meter.
It showed 50 kilowatts being generated the first three weeks when I had it but then something went out. They had me go to the Wi-Fi box but it seemed to be working okay. The Wi-Fi is a killer for a lot of things but Vivint Solar needs to know when outages occur so they can notify the client as opposed to waiting until the client notify them after checking online to see if they're accumulating anything. I was led to believe that my panel, which I recently installed, would handle all of that from day 1. But, that solar won't be on the Smart panel until sometime in the future. So, there were misconceptions. That was disappointing to my wife because she doesn’t go on the computer all the time. She goes to that panel all the time and look at the cameras.
I had to call in yesterday but I can't get somebody to come until Friday. The system has been out since the 11th so that's five more days of not being operational. I thought everything was okay, but somebody should've came out and work with the new customer, and check everything to make sure everything is operational once you go live. But nobody has been at my house at all to make sure that things were right because they leave it up to the consumer to have that little thing looked at.
The instructions were not up to date based on the pictures that I saw on my new system. Customers need to know that everything is working and Vivint needs to show them. Now, they want me to troubleshoot stuff but I know nothing about the system. That's the bad part about it. Thankfully, I still have Pepco to back up my electricity. It’s a good fallback. If I was relying totally on Vivint and I didn’t have the backup, it would be devastating.
I did 35 years of customer service and I’m passionate with it. And that’s what I expect to get because I always gave it when I had a team of people that were providing service to the consumer. So I expect to get a certain level of customer service from whatever service I'm paying for. When things go wrong, Vivint Solar don’t notify me. I got to go in physically. It's not like my alarm system. I have Vivint alarm for about seven years now that’s why I chose them. I got cameras and all that stuff from Vivint and I can see on my phone but this app is not a phone app. I have to go through Chrome and go to a website to see all the things.
They should be responsive to a current customer so all of that other stuff people are complaining about won't happen to me. The salesman assured me that they’re on top of things. Vivint needs to do a better job after they lock somebody in with how responsive they'd be to people. Solar is a new thing to a lot people and everybody don’t understand it. You leave somebody hanging after the installation and you just tell them, “Keep the switch. Oh, you're up and running now,” but then there's nothing after that.
Basically, they need to improve on when they actually go live with somebody, that there’s somebody that can walk people through what they can expect to see and everything as opposed to a salesman who is out to just make money and lying to people up and everything. The company needs to have somebody going around at least one or two days after that activation to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Also, it would be nice to teach everybody in the house what to look for in case there's a need for troubleshooting. My wife doesn’t know anything about it. I was out of town for seven days and she wouldn't know what to do even if they call her to do that. Try to keep sending the technician out. It's expensive but being in a business, they got to deal with these things. Overall, it looked good and I was pleased with the service over the time it was operational. But today until it’s up and running again, I'm very dissatisfied with them.
We're sorry to hear you're having some trouble with your system. We want to get this sorted out for you. Please either send us a private message or email us at socialmedia@vivintsolar.com with your account number or address, so we can look further into your issues. Thanks!

My experience with Vivint Solar was absolutely horrible. Although there were moments of glimmering hope. I'm neutral on my experience with them now that my solar system’s operational but it took them two years to get it operational. Their biggest problem is they're trying to do everything out of corporate customer service instead of personal relationships, and it's just a disaster. We disagreed on the means that they were gonna use. We had our initial plans. But when they came out, they changed all that. I said that it's not acceptable. They need to get approval before they can make major changes like they're proposing. So it took them two years to get around and actually getting somebody to personally come out and talk to me, go through what we needed to do, and get an acceptable plan in place and solve the problem. But now that it's set up, the solar system seems to be working adequately.
The other thing is, it's been almost two months since it's been operational and I haven't seen a bill yet. Their whole billing process is mysterious. They're just completely impersonal. It's like dealing with Bank of America or Citibank or some other impersonal organizations. There's really nobody that’s knowledgeable, capable or competent of providing systems and information. At least the local manager was amazing. He was the only bright spot in the whole project because, despite their system, he really tried to maintain a personal relationship and was empathetic and helpful. Ultimately, when he was released to do the job, he got things done. But it's their corporate structure that’s messed up.
I've talked to other Vivint customers and it's weird when how you have a bad experience, all of a sudden, everybody had the same bad experience. You don’t care if one person says anything good about a company. Vivint is one of those companies where I've never heard anything good about them. Constructively, they can do much better. They have the capability but they just need to get their act together and really develop personal relationships, and that’s where they're weakest on. So here's the challenge. Like most corporate organizations, nobody’s going to say the king has no clothes. Regardless of what feedback you give them, I would be highly impressed if they were able to make an effective change. Typically, when it starts from the top of management, nobody better say anything. Good luck with that.
We're sorry to hear you feel that way. We have been making changes to our customer service structure, to make sure our customers have a better experience. If you have any outstanding issues with your account, please send your address or account number to socialmedia@vivintsolar.com or message us on here, so we can work on a resolution. The rates were going up on our electricity. Solar energy service didn’t cost me anything and I didn’t pay a penny. I thought, if I sell my house, it might make it worth more. The salesperson from Vivint Solar was extremely nice in explaining everything to me. I felt it couldn’t go wrong and I could save a little money. Also, the man that got on the roof to see if I would have enough sunlight and if it's a good roof for collecting the heat and his wife are very avid gardeners and love plants. I gave him a whole bunch and he was laughing and laughing. He said his wife is gonna go crazy when she sees those. Then two days later, I come home and my whole front porch is filled with plants that they gave me. That was a surprise.
It's been turned on a little while a couple of weeks ago and they were very professional installing it. The prices have gone up once since I got it. But they have to bring in electricity from out of state. I'm going to be satisfied if my rates are lower because I have to look out for myself and it's a big house but I'm okay with it. Some of the neighbors were saying it's not a good deal. One neighbor even cussed them out and shooed them off. It was terrible, but they thought they were taking advantage of a poor old lady like I'm stupid. They think I have dementia but I think I did the right thing and I've mentioned it to several friends.

I have been looking into solar energy services and considering it for a while. I wasn’t really keen on it but put some more power down to it and SDG&E's rates keep going up every year. I thought I’m ready to go solar. We came to this neighborhood and I was showed Vivint Solar around the grid. The rep did all the enrollment work. We just signed the document from them here so it wasn’t too bad. It was a lengthy period of time which is a little upsetting because it took a while and a part of it is the process.SDG&E held everything up. Getting terminated, getting installed and then getting it started is a lengthy process but it is what it is.
The people from Vivint Solar came in, installed the system on the roof, got all the mirrors bearing it and I never heard back from them for two weeks. They had to have an inspector come out to check the system. I was a little upset because I had to call in to get that done. They didn’t follow up with me on it. And it just got done recently. I know I paid my first bill with them but I’m getting bills from SDG&E and I find it hard to believe that I used more than what I got in the solar system, so I’m a little confused on that process. I got a bill from them for $2.47 and another one for $11 and another one for $22 and it says "don’t pay this debt." I don’t know what the hell any of that means or why I am even getting billed from them because Vivint Solar has set the system up and it was based on my usage. My assumption is that I will be paying them for my energy and for the solar.
I’m trying to figure it out by checking. It might have been the transition in the middle of the month from solar to SDG&E, so I can tell them that. I’m giving it a couple of months until the billing works out. I thought I was clear on whatever was explained to me, but I’m not clear to getting conflicting things here. The install, no out of pocket money install, is essentially covered. Free install. I understand Vivint Solar gets the solar credit which covers the cost of the unit installed, but my understanding is I’ll be paying 16 cents kilowatt hour.
They average my bill for a year to figure out what I would pay but the last bill I got was $89 and I’m trying to figure out was that when I used in solar or is there a lease. I assume it’s a lease on paying a certain monthly fee plus whatever I use in solar which I wasn’t cool with sky lighting roof at home because I asked them several times ago, “So 16 cents kilowatt hour?” “Yeah, oh yeah.” I’m still working through that, but it’s still cheaper than the SDG&E by half, so I’m not too upset about it. The rep cleared that it's a monthly lease plus the cost of the solar.

The price is going up on electrics so we decided to look into solar energy services. Everything was good dealing with their salesman however, there were some breakdowns in getting the system operational. I signed the contract in July and had it turned on last month. Things seemed like there was corporate mandated versus someone that's really wanted to get things done. Initially, we were approved but because it took so long, I had to go back for another approval. Corporate only did so many approvals a month, so I had to send it later around for them to finally get the approval form to complete the system that was already approved once.
I was a little hard on their customer service because of some of the corporate policies that were set but it wasn't their fault and they were really good. There's still stuff that hasn't been completed, like when we actually have to build a wall to move the house. I did the wall and they came in and painted it. First, they only painted the front rather than just paint the back side of it. Then, they had to come back and change out some sizing and wiring. They still got sections and the pipe is not painted alongside the house. So some of the finished stuff has not been completely finished.

One of our neighbors talked us into Vivint Solar. I started seeing them going up in the neighborhood and I was curious. But I am a little bit bugged about the enrollment because we had had three other bids and one of them had come in quite a bit lower than Vivint Solar. Everybody wants to sign me but Vivint's salesman was pretty crafty. One of the things that we had talked about is the other company that had come in at a lower rate who said they would do a $500 Visa gift card. We're going to Florida in a few months, so that would be cool. When I was telling Vivint's guy that we were thinking about signing up because that was one of the other things that I was interested in with the other company, their salesman said he can do that for me but I still haven't seen anything.
I had somebody come and knock on the door one day and asked if I am interested in solar. They didn’t see it and so I told her we already had it. She asked me how I like it and that’s my complaint because that’s my experience and it was one of the draws that took us to Vivint. The other thing is that the other company was fairly new and warranty-wise, we thought it's a little bit comfortable. The warranty was comparable but when you're looking at this other company that’s fairly new, you wanna go with somebody who's been around. Also, my neighbors talked about how great their experience has been. But now, looking around through my neighborhood, there are a lot of my neighbors advertising for and recommending the other company. They're really pleased with them and I haven't seen any Vivint advertisement for a while.

They never installed the correct amount of panels. We want the system down since it never saved us anything. The first 2 guys left them and the 3rd I don't know. I've had Vivint for a while, but I had an addition. I had the solar installed about two years ago and it filled one half of my roof. They came back about six months ago for the add-on and said, "We got better solar panels and we can do the other side of the roof." They got the engineers out to take a look at it and make sure that it's worthwhile. I said, "Yeah. I got no problem." I got panels all over the place.
Their customer service team called up on time, made arrangements when the techs were gonna be there, and they were exactly there at that time. It was very good. They were excellent. Also, It's new technology and my wife says, "Nah, nah. I don't want that," but when she got the bill, she's happy. Last month's bill from LIPA, now PSE&G, was $33 and Vivint was another $45, so $80 for the month, which normally would be over $200 before. It was a great experience and the people were knowledgeable. The product is up-to-date and the installers were great. I've been telling everybody about Vivint Solar.

I purchased my home back in November 2015. I was given a copy of a copy, transferring solar services from the previous homeowner (whom is deceased). I never ever heard from Vivint until march 2017. I received an email to call them. I called Vivint and was transferred to loss mitigation/collections. They told me I had an outstanding balance of over 1200.00+ dollars. After explaining to the rep the miscommunication Vivint Solar and I have had, she continued to talk and treat me like I was trying to avoid payment and was just rude. I have no problem paying my bill but I do have a problem with a negligent solar company. I asked, "Why am I just hearing from you now? Why haven't I received a bill?" "Oh we're a paperless billing company." "Ok well why didn't you call me?" They can't answer that.
Loss mitigation transferred me to another rep who was supposed to help me log in to my account online since that's never done, so I can start paying my current bills and receive them via email. Oh, but guess what, the system won't let me (I still have the rep on the phone with me BTW) and she is clueless. We try several different ways to access and several numbers, nothing works. So I get transferred to someone else and he wants to review my account and call me back tomorrow.
Since my last phone call, I did receive an invoice (I thought they were paperless billing) and a certified letter notification to pick up mail from the post office from them. Wow... They don't talk to new customers or let them know what I had signed up for or a courtesy call for a whole year and 6 months but by darn they do hunt you down when you owe them money. That's poor business. A week later (today), I call them back since no one called me back. That's poor business.
So for the 4th time I have now ended my call with Vivint Solar, made a large good faith payment, and still no one understands why I cannot access an account that I have 2 numbers to. I now have two accounts. My "paper" invoice had the wrong installation address and they do make sure to highlight in different markers all the words in your invoice. I had two dates of billing on Jan and Feb of 2016. I have gone nowhere but spent about 4 hours of telephone time with them. I'm quite sure I spoke to the same lady as last week who was supposed to send me a copy of my transfer agreement and never did. So when I said, "Hey I think I spoke to you last week, same name and voice." She replied with "Oh ya there's another lady by that name here and she sounds like me." She told me I signed documents in january. Well I purchased my home in November and there is no possible way.
They just continue to pass you around. So disappointing. This new lady promised to send me a copy of that transfer today just like that lady did last week. So let's see... All I want is a little courtesy credit since I will be stuck with them for another 15 years, and to log into my account to make current up to date payments. They're unaccountable and negligent... Horrible service.

I was referred to Vivint and have known about them for the last three years. In fact, we have our security system through them. Since a couple of the houses around our area have solar, so we decided to go solar as well. As far as the decision to go solar, we’re satisfied with Vivint. However, we’re not satisfied with their customer service. We initially signed up back in November. After everything went through, we were approved in December and were promised an incentive bonus because we took a higher rate. And now, we're still waiting on them to decide or to find out if they are going to give us this money and when.
We are a little upset about that, so I told the young lady that if this is not resolved by the end of the month, we are going to have them pull the solar panels because it's a breach of contract to us. They promised us one thing and we're not getting that promise. So, why should we continue to stay with Vivint when we can go to another company? So far, they have not given us a time as to when they will resolve this.
We're sorry for the trouble with receiving your incentive bonus. It looks like this was taken care of on our end and was delivered on 5/19/17. Please let us know if you haven't received this or have any additional issues. Thanks for providing us with feedback about your experience.

There was a little wait of about four months but it was understandable as we had to wait for inspections and the process to work. Moreover, their customer service representatives were very courteous and knowledgeable. They answered all the questions that I asked in a timely fashion. At this point, I'm very satisfied with my decision to go solar. The panels are working out and they're a good way to not have difficulties with our bills. I feel very good about it.

I have had solar panels on 5500+ sq. foot home for several years now and I have yet to see any savings! I just received an email last month (April 2017) regarding my system was not reporting. The technical came to swap out the "reporting device." He stated the device goes bad every two years and needs to be replaced. He ran a system check with his handheld device and stated that your system has not been reporting since July 2016. Hmm so how are you billing me if my system is not reporting? Now this was a shocker-- I was in the midst of refinancing my home and I found out that I have a lien against my property! Vivint Solar neglects to tell their customers this information!!! VERY SHADY BUSINESS!!! I will be initiating a class action lawsuit.

I’ve gone through the past 3 years with a fine tooth comb of electric bills along with the past 1.5 years with solar panels. Number one, the kwh's that I'm using are more than ever according to the kwh that are being produced on the solar panels. The cost if electricity has gone down and the cost per kwh on the panels is now more than electricity. I'm not sure people that have the panels have taken the time I have doing this research but please...anyone considering learn from our mistakes. We are now stuck with these for 20 long years. Panels are getting cheaper and more affordable and rates are not going down on solar panels. So if your electric goes down you will be stuck for 20 long years paying much more for solar power.
I'm also sure panels will be more sophisticated in the future. I was told I would save over 30%. Not the case at all! We are paying more than ever. When you complain to the company they don't take you seriously and are not willing to work with you. I feel deceived and scammed. Get these panels and you're stuck in your own home with no way out!!

When I'm running my electric bill and I'm getting a bill from Southern California Edison, that's pushing during the summer months. At least four of the months, I'm pushing $750 for an electric bill. Why wouldn't I try and reduce that? I'm sure everybody wants to reduce their electric bill if possible. Most of all the solar companies want to do credit checks and then you're either buying it or leasing it. Also, typically they put liens on your house. Not necessarily as a punishment but the lien is there so they get notified if I sell my house. The most enticing thing about Vivint as opposed to all the other solar companies that have come out and given me bids was that I'm extremely happy with their whole process and I don't have any money out of my pocket going to them other than my monthly bill.
The other thing is that if you have from Solar America or you're leasing the panels from somebody, the person buying your house has to qualify through them. But with Vivint, the people buying my house don't have to qualify. There's no credit check and if they don't want it, they're gonna come and take it. But why wouldn't they want it when they're getting free electricity that they don't have to qualify for? It's the same thing for renters.
The agreement is that I will purchase my electricity through them. I allow them to use my roof to generate the electricity. In the state of California, the Governor signed a bill and there is two or four billion that they have set for solar panels, alternative means of power. What I was told that happens is Vivint does whatever they do and gets the panels for free through the state. They install the panels on your roof and don't charge you to install so long as you buy the electricity from them, which is fine. In California, they have three different tiers and I've always been in Tier 3 but with Vivint, my guaranteed pricing is in Tier 1 or lower. For 20 years, like everybody else, I'll do my stuff through them and they maintain it. Then, the extra energy gets put back in the system but since I'm not a supplier, they're not gonna turn around. I doubt if you're ever gonna get a bill and that Southern California Edison is gonna cut anybody a check.
They went over my yearly bill and found out how many kilowatts I use. I use a lot of kilowatts but not on purpose. The house is big and it has two air conditioning units, a swimming pool and a water feature that has a water slide and a waterfall, so during the summer and the hot months, the kids always have everything going but I try and limit the AC.
The amount they offered me was double because the system that I have is so big. I have 36 panels and that's a lot. They do an inspection and make sure that the roof is strong enough to support it. The money is supposed to help people if they have an older house and there might be some work that needs to be done structurally on the inside up in the attic to help reinforce it so it will be structurally sound to hold up or take care of the solar panels. My house is under 10 years old and brand-new built so I didn't have to but the money's there anyway. The funny part was I got a check for $750 because they didn't have to use the money for reinforcing structurally inside my house. Also, if for some reason the roof becomes damaged any time during this, there's a $10-Million policy that covers everything which is amazing in itself because I don’t own anything that could add up to $10 million.
It's also tough to tell them no when they came out and they're there the whole time. They're also very professional in the way they come out, talk to you and go over everything. Somebody came out, looked at my roof and marked out where all of the vents and stuff like that that I have on my roof. Then, when the guy came to finally talk to me about the install and what to expect, they have a whole computer-generated outline of the house, where all the vents are, where the panels are going and how they're gonna set them up. They also kept me informed and they're there on the days that they said they're gonna be. Everything seemed really professional to me and gave me that sense like they know what they're doing so it seems like a good thing.
My first bill from them for the month was $142. From day one, even before I had my pool, my bill was never this low. I'm pretty excited about it. Also, they told me about the mistakes that people make. They go under the misconception that now that they have solar, they can leave everything on. But that's not the case because, ideally, when I use solar during the day, I try and make sure everything's off that I don't need to use. What happens then is my electric panel is spinning backward like winding a clock up and putting credit on my bill. Then, at night time or when the sun's gone, I start using power through Edison again. That way, I'm only using what I generated during the day so it's like a wash and I don't have to worry about anything like paying the electric company. This is pretty cool.
My wife had gone on to the ConsumerAffairs website and there's a lot of people that have negative listings. One of them was saying be careful because Vivint puts a lien on your house. But if you look at their contract, it's in big and bold lettering that they do not. There's no reason for them to and they don't have to because you're not buying or leasing the panels. I asked the Solar guy about that and he said some people were upset and got irritated because they didn't get a phone call right away so they decided to put a negative comment. But I'm extremely happy and so is the wife. I don't think I could be happier with them.

I care about the earth and going solar was something that I was considering. A representative drove past and asked me if I was interested in going solar and he told me about the Vivint Solar program and that it might be an opportunity that I want to take advantage of to reduce my electric bill, and so I did. Vivint Solar got permission to turn the system on, but they didn't have anyone available to come and activate it for a month, so I didn't turn anything on.
Then, when my system was activated, I got a phone call within two hours telling me I had a bill and that I needed to respond immediately to pay the bill. I spoke to a representative and they gave a lot of verbiage and justification and that they made an assumption of what the bill would have been based on my consumed usage. The rep was trying to fast-sell me like a car salesman, so I expressed to him that I don't care how the error was made but I would like it fixed. It was for $3 or $4 and very minimal, but it's not the amount of the bill. It was the fact that I turned my system on for less than 24 hours and I'm getting a call as if I'm a delinquent bill payer. Now I have to watch my credit report to find out if this is something that's been reported to my credit report.

Somebody came to my house and told me about Vivint Solar. He told me there wasn't going to be an out-of-pocket cost for me which I thought sounded good. I took some time thinking about it, researching it and talking with my wife. It seemed like a good way to go solar. They do some different ways depending on the state. In Albuquerque, what they were offering me was the solar system would be installed. It's owned by Vivint and they maintain it. I have a 20-year agreement with them and they will keep it up to spec. It will produce electricity and it's built to produce enough to cover my needs, or at least the way they estimated it. The only thing I don't like is that what I understood at first is that I was paying for the electricity that I would use from the system like with my local utility, but apparently, I pay for all the electricity that is produced, whether I used all of it or not.
But I'm satisfied that I'd gone solar. If I'd had the capital to do it and own the system, I would have gone that way. Everything has been installed and gone well. But PNM, a public utility here in New Mexico, took a long time to come and turn it on and put my digital meter in. It was already six weeks after the system was built and ready to go before we could start using it. Then, they say that they're backed up by so many people going solar, which I suppose can be true. Also, I pay a much lower rate than I would pay for my local utility company. So I save money but in the spring of summer months, it's gonna produce a lot more electricity than it will in the winter months because of the amount of sunlight. So my bills will be higher in spring and summer and I'm not really benefitting as well as if I'm paying for electricity. But if that's pretty much what I need to use, then it's no big deal and I've only had one bill so far and it was about $30 less than what I would pay PNM.
In the long run, I'm still gonna save money and I'm happy to be using solar power versus coal. I think using sustainable and renewable energy is a good thing and that was part of my decision to go solar even though I don't own the system. The upside of not owning is that I don't have to maintain the system so if something breaks or something needs to be replaced, that's Vivint's responsibility and I didn't have to go out-of-pocket whatever it costs to own the system. Also, there hasn't been anything that I've had to have them come out and fix either. I'm waiting to find out how responsive they are to that but my customer service has been good so far.

Vivint Solar's salesperson who came was a young kid. The only reason I let him in my house was because he resembled my son very much. He gave a good sales pitch and he said there was no expense to me. So I said, "Let's try it." And then, the people that installed the system was fabulous, very nice and very polite. Every time they came in the house, they were very clean. I was very happy and impressed with them. They picked up all their mess. They even did it when it was a day after a huge snowstorm. It was amazing to me how crazy it was. It was a lot of them, not just three. So they worked rapidly, in and out. They sent me the instructions on how to turn on the system thru email. I opened up the email and it was very easy and very simple.
The system was just turned on not even a week ago. I'm very, very curious to see how the system actually works to see how I'm gonna get billed and to see if it's true that I am gonna get big savings. I would truly recommend them based on the people that installed them and based on the sales staff who've been very informative.

The installation process was smooth and to get everything turned on was just a couple of months when I was anticipating it to take about six. After finally getting the panels activated I started to notice that there are days where again the panels aren't producing anything. March 30th after several calls to the tech support they determined that my inverter had a fault. I was told that the panels are producing power but for some reason it's not communicating with the system. Which also means the panels are not communicating with my electricity provider. A friend of ours in Phoenix got Vivint Solar. I was always interested in solar energy but it takes about 25 years to recoup the cost. I didn't think it was a good investment. When I found out about this program, I wanted to look more into it. And so when I got back to Albuquerque, I researched it and found out that Vivint was already here in Albuquerque. So I called to have someone come by and talk to me.
Overall, the program's good, but I don't think they were prepared very well. I think I was misled a little bit along the way on things, that it would be a lot speedier to get it up and running. There were a lot of delays along the way. The solar energy system got installed fairly quickly, but it took about 10 months to get it all up and running. They were saying that there were some problems with PNM, but I think Vivint Solar over sold. They weren't ready for the response and weren't set up to handle things efficiently. I have spoken to their customer service team and the girl who we dealt with was very good. She was trying her best. There was a lot of confusion but she was as helpful as she could be with what she has to work with.
I understand that it's a new startup and it's to their advantage to get these things up and running. I won't fault them for that but I think a lot of people would not be very understanding. I know I recommended several people to them and one person is not too understanding about it. Nevertheless, I'm very satisfied with my decision to go solar. I haven't had a full month bill yet so I'm still assessing it but overall, I'm glad that it's up and running.

We already had the Vivint security service. Then a gentleman came by and talked to me about Vivint Solar. I wasn't really interested in going solar because I had heard some horror stories about having to purchase equipment and the rebates, but he made it sound like it wasn't going to cost me a thing. What convinced me to go with Vivint Solar was that I didn't have to put money upfront. We didn't have to pay anything to have the system installed, and if I gain a free gallon of gas, I'm not going to say no.
So far, everything's turned out to be pretty good. We only had a 20F box and we needed a 30F. They've installed a different electrical box, and it didn't cost me a penny. They also explained that in our area, gas or electric energy has different rates at different times of the year or hours of the day, depending on how much demand there is for electricity, but my rates are going to be pretty much set at about $0.08 per kilowatt-hour. I talked to a rep named Pat because he was our contact in having the electrical box changed and in setting up appointments, and it was good with him. We usually communicated through email. When I would send him an email, he would reply within a day or two, so it was quick and I was happy with that.
Overall, it was easy with Vivint Solar. They took care of most of the paperwork, including getting the permit. I would highly recommend them. In fact, I've recommended them to a couple of my relatives. One lives in Temecula and he had a look into it. He's a computer geek and really knowledgeable about solar energy. Then I have another relative whose house burnt down and is being reconstructed now, so I told him to contact Vivint and get an estimate to see what it will cost him to get a solar system.

I've had solar in another house so I decided to look into solar energy services with Vivint. Everything was fine with the sales and install parts. Now, I'm having issues. My inverter is not reporting how much it's producing. I can't find it on the internet. I can sign on but it doesn't appear. Moreover, I can't get hold of anyone to help me out on repairing stuff. They said they were going to have to replace my inverter and that they have an open ticket number. Still, I haven't heard another damn word from anybody and it's been close to over a week now.
I tried calling them again and they said they would call back later or that I would have to call back later because they were closed. Now, I don't know whether I'm saving money or not because the inverter doesn't tell me how much it's producing. Lastly, I tried to call change my date to pay the loan because I wanted to pay it off early yet they wouldn't even work with me on that.

The following day I received a phone call with an apology follow by someone coming to fix the problem. The master electrician had given me so much run around so a different person had to come back to fix his laziness. After he called the master electrician to explain that he had finish the job. While guy was on the phone on speaker with the master electrician he made some stupid remark about me not realizing I was standing nearby. The guy had to take him off speaker and went into his truck to finish the call.
After services were active and things I thought was going well then we had an outage from National Grid for about 2 hours. I thought having solar and power was out I would be the only person on the block with electricity. I guess I was wrong. I call Vivint to find out how come the battery back up didn't kick in and that's when I was told that there is no battery back up with their system. I express my opinion and hang up. I was not told that there was no battery back until my first outage. I was very upset and would not recommend Vivint to anyone who is looking into solar. My neighbor had Solar City put in and I went over to look at his system and they produce more energy than mine and they have a battery back up in case there was a power outage.
I am very disappointed with Vivint. So far we had several outage in the area and I had to pull out my generator to get power into my house. Also there is no saving when it comes to my bills between Vivint and my National Grid bill. It cost me more having Vivint. I just want to go back to National Grid. At least I'm paying $.08 pKw with them and Vivint charging me $.09 pKw. How can I cancel my services with Vivint Solar Co? It's like they put these panels on my roof and feeding all energy produce to my power company and charging me for it when they should be helping me save. Can someone help get out of this mess? Thank you.

The high cost of electricity is what brought me to looking into solar energy. There were some miscommunications and disappointments in the enrolling process but for the most part, it was okay. I got quotes from other companies and dealt with some other companies and in some ways, Vivint will be better, in some ways they didn't seem as good. Sometimes customer service was not as responsive as I would like. It feels like they just don't give a crap. They've got you so now they don't have to do everything. They made some unauthorized promises and after I bugged them enough, they actually came through on those even though they probably didn't have to. But since having Vivint, the electricity bill is quite low.

There was no money out of pocket when you go solar and I figured if I could save a little money on my electric bill, why not? I haven't gotten a bill yet though. The first two electric bills I got, I was still on the budget. They didn't inform me that I should get off the budget so I just got off the budget recently and the savings that I'm saving right now these next couple of months are just credit that I had from being on the budget. So, I'm not really going to be able to see changes for at least three months.
The guy from Vivint told us a couple of things that didn't pan out. My wife is still annoyed because they tell you that if you refer somebody and they get their solar installed, that they give you a $250. Now my neighbor's been trying to get in touch with him and he hasn't returned her call and my wife keeps asking and they tell her that she has to speak to him. I don't know what's going on with that but we haven't heard from him since he sold it to us. It's been a headache from day one. They said that I have no internet connection with them but they're still charging me. So I don't even know if that has anything to do with that and this has been almost two months now and they're finally sending somebody on the 31st of this month. If I was gonna refer a solar company to somebody, I would not refer them.

But I was very pleased with Vivint's workers and everything is working fine so far. I have no problems and no one else in the house has made any complaint. Everything is doing great. We had been thinking about solar energy service for some time, and the rep from Vivint was in the neighborhood. And so, it made it convenient for us to sign up with them. However, my experience with Vivint Solar hasn’t been very good. We had our system installed initially in January of 2015, but it is still not fully up and running. Expectations like how long the process would take weren’t set upfront and we also went into some additional difficulties.
They came up and put the panels on the roof. Then it has to be approved by the county. We live in Howard County, Maryland and we had the Howard County Consumer Affairs Board involved. They were mediating between us and Vivint for a while because we weren’t making any progress. The rep left and though our account has been assigned to a new rep, we fell into like a black hole and we had no communication for some time. It was just a bad experience all around. The ball was dropped several times and it was just a very messed up process.
They finally got the system up and running about a month ago. Then I received another call from Vivint saying we're not completely online and they're gonna send a rep to check out the system. I specifically asked would they need to come in the house to do that and I was told no - it was something at the box outside. The day came and I got a call telling me that they need to get inside the house. I work 45 minutes away from where I live, so I’m not there.
I rescheduled for Saturday in the morning where I could be at home, but they don’t have reps that go out or techs in the Maryland market that work on Saturdays. So I told them if it’s going to be during the week, it has to be first thing in the morning. So I was home waiting for them at 8 o’clock because I was told 8 o’clock, the rep would be there. 8:30 rolls around but the rep still didn’t show up. So, I called Vivint Solar and told them the rep's not here. They said they had the service in a window from 8:00-11:00. I told them I was very specific that that would not work for me. I have to be at the first appointment in the morning because I had to work. And so they rescheduled it again. It got to the point where we just wanted to get the panels removed and get out of the contract. But that wasn’t an option and we were told we can’t do that. So what they did is they settled. They cut us a check for $1000 for all of our trouble.
What has been happening is total incompetence. I understand as I’ve worked for a large company, too, but it’s the repetitive breakdown in communication or misinformation. And it started from the very beginning, from the sales person not properly trained to really set the expectations of how long the process should take so we’d realize when we signed up that it might take a few months. My wife, Ashley, was the one who was handling this process at first, but she got so frustrated that she refuses to have any dealings with them at all. It became a very confrontational situation between her and Vivint and that’s why I’ve been handling it since then.

I told him "I would shop around with other companies." He said "no worries. Sign the PPA. It's not binding and can be cancelled." He called later on and said they wanted to install April 27. I said "no." I said "late May", so Kelly said "May 18". I asked for May 27. I told him later the better as I was shopping around. Long story short. They installed April 27.
When I heard they were there I emailed Kelly, then I called Vivint. I was in a panic (should I drive home?). The person I spoke to at Vivint said not to worry. They would try to contact the crew. I waited what seemed like forever. I called Vivint back and asked for status - Sarah said that the installation was cancelled. I said "great - you contacted everyone. Are you sure I don't have to drive home." Sarah said "no", she said I would need to call back to re-schedule the installation. I thanked her and hung up. I also emailed Kelly ** to thank him if he had anything to do with canceling the installation.
When I got home from work that night the solar panels were on my roof. Vivint is now not so friendly. They are saying I will be in default unless I pay and sign. They cut my new roof and put panels all over my house without me being there to oversee the installation. Vivint just is money hungry - not a trustworthy company or salesman. Shame on you Kelly **! But my brother-in-law went with SolarCity. He called them up, they came out, they installed, they made all the phone calls and within two months he was hooked up. So my panels were on the roof two weeks before him but he was running three months before me.
Moreover, I haven't seen that much difference in the billing. I know that the material costs a lot of money and so does the installation but I thought I was getting more out of it than what I'm really getting. Overall, I'm not dissatisfied, but I wouldn't recommend them. I recommended a friend up the street and he, in turn, recommended to a friend. His friend got installed and now he's calling for his to get installed, which he's been waiting over six months. And they denied him saying that they had the same grid and because there were too many people with the flow all ready and in just the area. What kind of a smack in the face is that? The person he recommended got it before he even got it. Now he feels as though he's not going to get his kickback that he was promised from them. At first, I put it in the front part, and then I also put it in the back. When I enrolled with Vivint Solar, the guys were great and they did a wonderful job. They ran into some problems and broke a light, but they fixed everything that they broke.
We like Vivint Solar very much and I'm very satisfied so far with going solar. It has saved me a little bit on the energy bill, but not as much as I expected. Also, I don't understand why we had to have another company. I thought it was just going to be Solar that I was paying. But now I'm also paying the other company. Furthermore, I don't like that Vivint Solar is taking payments out of the bank twice because I had solar put on both sides of my roof.
I have referred quite a few people to Vivint, and two of them have put solar energy in. Vivint had told me that I was going to get $100 for referring these people, but I never got it. Nonetheless, I will be glad to tell a lot of people about Vivint Solar. When I talk to somebody about going solar, I say that they save a little bit, but not that much, and they're eventually going to do it anyway, so they may as well do it now. Well, I'm spending more money now than I ever was so I'm not too happy. They made me put 36 panels on my roof with a transformer because it'd be generating too much power back into the system.
I had it installed because my neighbor had installed across the street and he noticed a heck of a savings with his electric bill. I contacted the people, they came in and put the stuff in and wait for approvals. All it's doing is to generate more outlay of cash from my family and I'm very disappointed. I've got an 1800 square foot house and have been in the house for 41 years and I have 10/2 wiring to every circuit in the house so there's no overdraw of amperage or heated lines or inadequate supplies. We waited up to 10 months from start to finish to get it put on and then to get it turned on was another couple three months. In the first month we got a $20+ bill. This month we got a $75 bill. After that, they made arrangements, and within two weeks the guys were out here putting the panels on. I had expected it to take longer for them to turn the solar service on, but everything went a lot faster than I expected. I'm really satisfied with my decision to go solar though I haven't seen a lot of savings yet, but I'm hoping that happens. Everything was fantastic with Vivint Solar and I love dealing with them.

We wanted to save money and the ecosystem and we looked into solar. We signed up with Sunrun back in March last year, but we never heard back from them. They kept hesitating and they couldn't get people to come and put it up. When a Vivint Solar salesman came by the house in August, we said we were ready. We signed the papers and a guy came out and did a survey of our roof to see how much power we would be generating. He checked our electrical box too. They created a plan and got it back to us. We checked off on it and they installed it about three weeks later, so we were able to cut the power on to it. The process was easy and it was nice. Vivint Solar kept me informed all the way and there were no hassles whatsoever. It was a very good experience, and so far, we're satisfied with our decision to go solar.

The guy whom I first dealt with was very good at describing the process to me. He did a great job. The process took several months, but deciding to go solar seems to be working well. My electricity is cheaper, too. I'm very satisfied.

I had already been looking into solar energy services and I was interested in it because of the lower energy cost. Then, a friend referred me to Vivint Solar. Enrolling with them is easy. Their guys came out and gave us a little site survey, they came back, did another survey and we approved everything. Their customer service was courteous, able to answer questions, and gave me some guidance. About a month later, they were back and installed their services. Another two months, BG&E hooked it up.
Recently, I called about getting the BG&E bill. They're making me pay for a BG&E meter that I didn't have to pay for before and they didn't bring that to my attention. It is about five dollars a month that I wasn't aware of and I just called about that. I'm not sure if I can have lower costs because I haven't had the summer bill yet. It hasn't reduced and I'm wondering if it's gonna reduce too much from our gigantic bills. I'm also not sure if they got me during the winter, so I don't know what I'm saving. I don't want to pay too much.

In January of 2015 two leaks were detected in my roof due to the installation of solar panels which were installed in 2013. It took 5 months and multitudes of crews and a roofer to find the leaks even though the leaks were clearly marked by myself. Shortly after re-installation of the panels, three additional leaks were discovered and attributed to the heavy roof traffic while repairing the original two leaks. The leaks were repaired but still this date (2/11/17) the panels have not been re-installed. Working with Vivint's damage resolution team, installation and supervisors has been daunting and very frustrating. I would not recommend them as a Solar company.

My daughter had Vivint Solar and I got recommended by her. When we first set the service up, we had a hard time -- it took forever to get the inspection done. They put it on July 3rd and by the middle of August they still hadn't put the ground wire back in. Finally, they came out and did that after many calls. Then they said that I was due for inspection. I kept calling and saying, "When are you gonna inspect?" But they never could tell exactly when this would be done. I finally called the inspection team myself and they said they'd come within the week.
Once they got the inspection done, it took them three months before they came out to put the meter in, and then we were finally operational. The system is running very good now. But I probably lost a lot of money in August and September because I didn't have the wire and it took a long time to get the service operational. I had to keep hammering them, and that's one thing that I didn't like. I was willing to spend money with them, but I shouldn't be hammering them to get things done.
Dylan, the original salesman, was good. He would always answer my calls. He would also make calls to try to get things go a little bit faster. But the customer service rep, Michaela, was no good at all and totally useless. She would never return our phone calls. Then finally she returned a phone call after they sent me a survey through on the internet. When I put my feelings about her on the internet survey, the next day she called me up and everything's been boom, boom, boom all of a sudden.

We were looking for solar panels, and my wife came across Vivint Solar. The salesman gave us some pretty good and straightforward facts, answered all our questions and wasn't pushy. Other than that, it was rather smooth. They were very professional and we're satisfied.

Our going solar has been a good decision. It's efficient and our savings have been good. The only glitch that came up is with the design that they had for me for the panel and the ones they installed. They were going to give me panels that were 265 watts, but somebody dropped out and had to cancel. They shoved and moved me up on the schedule. Unfortunately, the person that they were gonna sell the panel for were actually 260 not the 265 that they had engineered for me.
After it was installed, they wanted me to sign a variance. That’s what brought it up to my attention. Once we started investigating, we found out that the panels installed were not the right ones. The technicians came back out, got up on the roof and looked at it and said those are the wrong panels. They had to add extra ones which I fortunately had the surface area and my roof can sustain the weight so it's okay.
Other than that, the gentleman I talked to was very good. He’s the one that spearheaded the whole process of getting the extra panels because basically, we agreed to one thing and he walked me through the process. Everything worked out very well and we’re saving money. They did everything they told me they were gonna do and they brought it up to speed so I’m happy. I would recommend this to a friend.

Seeing a lot of recent activity on the block and having panels on the roof from 1980 (that never really worked) I researched Vivint. What holds true for all such companies is the 20 year lease of the panels. While not secured with a mortgage the lease stands up to challenge and becomes a liability when trying to transfer title to the property. In short, it makes a homeowner a title not quite as simple in transfer. Their interest must be taken into account. As to the effectiveness of the system we are too low on the sun angle to fully benefit and the effective life of the system is questionable as none has been used for 20 years. Panels are made in China and their life may be far less and require maintenance/replacement leading to catastrophic expense to the homeowner. My panels wore out after 15 years and the mechanical systems required replacement on numerous occasions.

I started looking into solar as an energy savings option and one of my friends had Vivint so I got them to come out, take a look at it, give me an update and they were the best price. So far, I'm very satisfied with my decision to go solar. I was saving money from the power bill that I currently had. Enrolling with Vivint went very smoothly. A gentleman came out to the house and talked about what the project would involve. Then next day or two, another gentleman came out, got on the roof and figured how many panels we would need and where to put them. Then within a couple of days after that, the gentleman came back again, laid out the custom home decision on the custom layout and said how many panels I'd need and the cost.
Then Mosaic had the best interest rate. They told me what the payment would be and talked about the tax and credits. Then they got it installed very quickly. The only knock on the process was it was almost a month before the Vivint inspectors signed off on it. When I talked to the sales guy, it was always him blaming it on the power company for not approving it quick enough, but as I talked to the city and the power company, it was Vivint that was slow on signing off on it that it was installed correctly. It was frustrating because I wanted to be getting that month of power generation going into the winter. I would have liked to have seen that quicker. Apart from that, I'm very satisfied with my experience. They did what they were supposed to and the panel seemed to be doing good. I have recommended Vivint Solar to a friend.

I'm satisfied with my decision and it's one of the most fortifying experience. But there was a time that I didn't hear from anybody when I asked for a reconsideration on the amount of panels they were proposing. They said they had it and it would be a month to add it but it took four months before it came online and the time I decided to proceed. It was a little slow but it was positive and the salesman responded whenever I contacted him.
When the installation was nearing completion, I was impressed that the Vivint Solar regional office sent out a quality control inspector and he looked through things pretty well. He found a few items that he said needed to be adjusted by Vivint Solar. However, nobody's ever come back to do it. And the inspector also did not give me a copy of the inspection. The man went over the entire electric bill and said that deciding on the number of panels would be deciding as to what type of savings I would end up with. We went to 26 panels and he said that should give me almost 50%. If I got questions, he'll come by and answer them. He's very good. But I wish they'd reduce my bill into a perspective where I could get good savings. I'm waiting to see the big difference as what I'm paying Vivint is close to what I was paying before. The rep and I talked about the idea that it would cost $500 to take the panels off and put it back on when I have the roof replaced. He said, "Once we get installed, I'll get you a check for $500." But I never saw that or heard anything about it so it was just a promise that didn't get kept. Also, I'm still paying the same electrical bills now since the system isn't really producing very much because of the time of the year. But I'm assuming I'm saving a little bit because I'm paying Vivint for $30 or $40 a month. But as a company and the way the process worked, my experience with Vivint Solar was good.

He told me at the beginning that the process would take a long time, and they were. I signed up in June and became active at the end of November. It was dependent upon the power company and the city approving plans.
Everybody I worked with was great. However, I was not pleased with the installation. I asked it to be done a certain way on the conduit coming off the roof and they didn't do that. They had left several holes on the roof that I had to patch with tar. I'm not finding a reduction in my electric bill yet too much and thus, not saving much money at all right now. Beware of the sales pitch like all companies. They overpromise and don't deliver. Vivint technically tells you the truth because yes their panels will save you energy. That is not in dispute. However what they say is that it will save you money and that is misleading. You have to PAY Vivint for all energy that the panels produce on top of the energy you still have to pay to your utility company. So basically any savings you have is a wash. DANGER. DANGER. DANGER. VIVINT ELDERLY 81 YEAR OLD WOMAN HOMELESS. The Project was supposed to be Done before August. I ended up putting in a new circuit box and informed them of each step and they NEVER told me they were going to have Alpha & Omega come and RIP out the box and put a new one with a new meter after I spent all the money I spent on it. Then along with that they ended up putting a COPPER WIRE STREAK into the ground and hook through my attic to my HOT WATER TANK causing ELECTROLYSIS. That caused a slab leak under the house causing both hot and cold and have no more working water and the trees took over the slab as well and are coming up under the house. The leak was slow and progressed after they did what they did that day. Since September I have to bathe in buckets. I have very little water coming out of the faucet only enough to spend 5 to 6 hours a day filling buckets of water to heat for bathing and cleaning the house to keep clean surroundings. It's a day's work. You see I have wells and the constant leak caused the well pump to not only overwork but to arch and make a huge burn mark on my galvanized tank in the closet across from the hot water tank and furnace closet.
I have been suffering in pain. I was rear ended in a car accident back in 2000 so I have severe pain carrying all those buckets and under more medication. My mother got very sick when she spent the night here due to the moisture and severe cold from the drafts with cracks everywhere and bay windows cracked and front door is stuck shut. The entire house needs to be knocked down and rebuilt and I need a storage for all my belongings. I have a huge 2 acre estate here and it's salvaged. The insurance company has my house on the radar now for a cracked slab. I may not be able to get insurance with any other company after this. I have to sue them civil and I plan on doing it 200%. Every day the ceiling support beam is sinking more and cracking and de-attaching from the wall. The furnace and hot water tank are both gas and are sitting on top of the sinkhole that is under where the leak started.

Commuting, bottle water, excessive gas and electric. House does not heat like it used to. I have to heat water to bathe and clean. I am living in harsh conditions in my house and my shower is very hard to clean without running water.
Lots of bleach. I have buckets of water and bottles of water in old bleach containers and the water is harder than ever and I have to go see a dermatologist now this week due to the scale on my skin. Also I have lost hair from stress and on several different medications now. I lose track of days but I document everything and I only deal with Vivint by email. No more calls. I met with the Vivint representative on two occasions and basically was sold on the almost 50% savings that he was pitching without the obligation to the hardware. My concern was if I moved, would I be responsible with the system. He described it as a utility that you could choose to use or not and that I would not be responsible for the system. That was incorrect. That is only the case if the new owners accept the contract, otherwise, I am responsible.
Then when I finally ran the savings numbers based on the system they designed, I discovered that not only would I not save a dime, I was actually paying more for the electricity the majority of the time. So, I canceled my installation through Vivint's process. But, guess what, the installers showed up anyway to install the equipment. We had to inform them that we had canceled the contract. Not sure why that happened, but definitely poor communication throughout the process and, in my opinion, some suspect business practices when it comes to pitching their product. In my experience, honesty with the customer goes a long way.

Updated on 03/07/2019: Do NOT use this company. Run, run RUN from them. I am on my 10th (yes, you read that right) after the roof being reroofed twice! Two of my leaks are in the same spot as before. Second leak in one spot and the fourth in the other. I have taken countless hours off of work to be here for everything. One time I took time off work and they never showed. When I called, they said there was a glitch in their scheduling system and I was never scheduled. This is just one of MANY issues. And whenever they take the panels off to fix the roof, they are off and NOT generating for at least 6 months. To get them to do ANYTHING in a timely manner is not at all possible.
Meanwhile, I'm not generating. I've had them for five years and beginning in year one I had leaks. They have ruined my roof. Which is why they had to reroof it. Also come to find out when I had rain gutters put on, they roofed it wrong and now the rain goes between the roof and the gutter. I called them about this AND the two more leaks two months ago. Were supposed to be here to reroof on 2/27 (for a third time). Called 2/26 confirming. Stayed home from work (I don't have to be home to reroof, but I was told to point out the second leak and the rain gutter issue when they came). Got a phone call at about 9:30 saying they didn't have the permits and cannot come out.
Now, why did they call me the day before to confirm? Did they NOT know then that the permits weren't ready. So, now I get a phone call that my roof will be fixed on 4/16! Six weeks later? I called to tell them this was unacceptable. No apology, no concern whatsoever. Just that they could have someone come out and put a tarp on the roof. Which they did. However, last time they did that, they put some cheap flimsy plastic on which the wind tore to shreds which then ended up everywhere in my yard and pool. So I'm still sitting with a huge hole in my ceiling and a leaking roof. Keep in mind that this is the TENTH leak! I pretty much have been dealing with this same frustration for five years. And, my electricity bill is never any cheaper. Probably because it's never on long enough to generate! These clowns should be out of business.
Updated on 02/17/2017: I have been calling and emailing this company since November 21 regarding two leaks. It is now mid February and they are FINALLY coming out tomorrow to assess the leaks. In the meantime, two MORE leaks have come up! This makes 8 total, 3 in the same place. Do NOT go with this company. Not only did they promise me savings I'm not getting, but I have to deal with roof leaks too!! I guess it wouldn't be too awfully bad IF THEY'D ACTUALLY RESPONDED WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD and FIX THE LEAKS IN A TIMELY MANNER! I shouldn't have to keep chasing them. Horrible customer service.
Original Review: Well, I just discovered two more leaks. One that is in the SAME place that has been repaired TWICE before! Even had a new roof put on! The problem is that the technicians do not know how to install without compromising the integrity of the roof. So, the leaks get fixed, but when they reinstall the panels (which takes MONTHS by the way, so you are producing less energy as long as those panels are not on) they poke holes in your roof and then it starts all over again...more leaks.
The other issue is that several months ago, I called regarding my billing and they told me I had been overcharged for the past 6 months and that they'd do a "compensation report" and that someone would be calling me. Needless to say, no one called me. I have called back several times regarding this and keep being told that someone will call me. Still waiting. They also said two of my panels were functioning but not "reporting" and that someone would look into it and get back to me. Can you guess what the status of THAT is?
I want these panels off my roof and a new roof. This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated anymore. I will take action and am contacting a lawyer tomorrow to see how I can get out of this contract and away from this horrible company. And...I'm actually paying MORE for electricity. The only "benefit" is that I'm reducing my carbon footprint. But at what cost? It's just not worth it to me anymore to be "doing the right thing" but paying for it in the end.

Overall my experience has been good. My salesperson has been great about staying in touch and following through when I ask questions. I was not happy about how long it took to go through the process from beginning to being live. I also was not happy about the number of times I was assigned a new account manager, and the gaps in communication because of that. Now that I am live, I wish Vivint provided me the ability to view my daily production, and for that information to stay available so I could see it graphed throughout the month.

I'll know on Tuesday 11/01/16 once I survey the entire area. The job itself looked professional but I will require a couple of good rain storms and a substantial snow event to see if there is any leakage. As far as the operation of the system and savings--it's too early to tell. We need the necessary approval prior to activating the system. Regards.

In choosing to go with solar panels and save money, we looked extensively at every avenue. From the first day dealing with Vivint, there was just something that I didn't trust. From the day the sales rep came out there was nothing but delays, hold ups, missed forms, etc. Through constant pressure I finally received the design which was completely opposite of what was described in the meeting. I was assured that the remaining aspects would be completed immediately and the panels would set for an install date. After the initial meeting in March 2016 before the paperwork, surveys, designs, and delays were completed the calendar had pushed to June 2016. To my surprise the rep called to say we're scheduled for July 1st install which got my hopes up.
Unfortunately my expectations were dashed again when they didn't show up (mind up after I lost a day's pay). I called to see what the issue was through my rep who had no answer and needed to get back to me, which in turn took weeks again. After another month of waiting for something, I was informed the panels would be installed in August. Thankfully they arrived as required. The workers that were sent spoke little to no English, and looked like they were found on the corner.
After the work was "completed" my house was left littered with wires, metal shavings, self-drilling screws (inside and out). The craftsmanship was and is terrible being that none of the PVC unions were secure along with the gap left from where they cut the outside wall to reach behind the panel. As a result of the work, I had two brand new tires punctured that needed to be replaced so my car is safe for my family. After the installation was completed I was reached out by a service rep would ignore my messages for weeks. After 2 months of no contact, no power generated, no resolution to my damages. I called the office only to be given a new "rep" who to this day hasn't resolved any of the underlying issues. I've been in contact with him for 3 weeks with no answer other than "sorry".

I cannot say I am pleased with the company yet. We were excited with the prospect of clean energy and saving money. However after 10 months we are still waiting. It took three months to get the installation. Another FOUR months for the city to approve it and THREE more months we are still waiting for the electric company to install the meter. It doesn't feel like the priority is installation and completion. I see them installing more and more but many of our friends and neighbors are STILL waiting for a finished product. This translates into poor customer satisfaction. Friends of mine went with different companies and were up and fully running in less than three months on average.

They have been paid in full already and we have not gotten the solar they are supposed to deliver. I don't usually pay before the job is done but the mortgage company paid them off. One evening I had a knock on the door. 2 gentlemen presented me with an offer to get Solar energy installed for free and I could save a lot of money on my electric bill. So I decided to find out more. Everything they explained to me sounded great. My wife was apprehensive but I feel it's gonna be the wave of the future. So I agreed to have them come out and see if I was a candidate for this. We scheduled a date and they came out May 31st of 2016. Shortly after that I got contacted that it could be done to my house. Great! So I asked what the next step was. The original salesmen would come out and fill me in on the process and all other details. So we set a date... then that got cancelled. Then another date which also got cancelled. Then a 3rd... never showed up. Each time I had to arrange my schedule to be there.
Finally the 4th time to charm. So he shows me the plans and gets us to sign on the dotted lines. Explains that they need approval from Electric company... then the township. I continue to inquire every few weeks with the same answers... waiting on Elect co... then waiting on township. Finally I get the email that they are scheduling the install! So I plan to take the day off from work... about a week prior to the date I simply ask if it rains will they need to cancel. Response "yes let's reschedule". Yet no rescheduled date is set. So at this point I've had enough. I call the company only to be told that my whole arrangement has been cancelled due to how long it took... anything over 90 days gets cancelled. They tell me all they need to do is reactivate the account. Then they say we need to reassign everything.
We have the salesmen come back out and sign everything again. I call back and they tell me that they can't do it because apparently now my credit does not qualify. This has been the absolute worst experience I have ever had. They do not handle anything in a professional manner. I believe that if it was ever installed it would not have produced the amount of electricity it was supposed to... and from what I've read it would have taken another 6 months before they would have even turned it on... everything about this was a lie and full of empty time consuming promises. I am glad it never got installed. I will pursue Solar energy for my home but will NEVER recommend Vivint Solar. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE GUYS!

They installed the system quickly in less than 15 hours with minimal broken roof tiles on our Phoenix home... Then the whole system Sat for months... with BS emails sent every month about Progress... missing parts scheduling issues... after for four months on July 5th 2016 it was ready for ME TO TURN ON THE SYSTEM... NOT VIVINT. First partial month of solar we got a 145.00 Electric bill and 143.00 Vivint Bill... NO SAVINGS AT ALL. NEXT MONTH 125.00 Electric Bill and 143.00 Vivint bill. We contacted our salesman who turned this over to Quality Control Specialist Abe. Three weeks go by no response. Then I look online to Vivint's so called system monitoring which says SYSTEM FUNCTIONING NORMALLY...
I go look at my system meter... it's blank... off completely. I check the system breakers... all are on. I go to my service panel and hear the distinctive sounds of electrical shorting at the breaker Vivint installed. I touch it to hear even greater voltage shorting sounds. I call Vivint to send someone NOW... Spent an hour on the phone with a young man who wants to walk me thru their diagnostics. I ask for a supervisor who knows something about the Emergency that I am presenting... There is none. But I can hire my own electrician if I think one is needed!!! Then I get a phone call from Regina at Vivint... letting us know that our system is off. Really??? Vivint wants to send out a repairman in 4 days to survey the damage.
The Vivint troubleshooter shows up and sees for himself that my electrical panel is heavily damaged and their breaker is melted... and he confirms my panel will have to be replaced. All this I knew from MY Electrician already. At least he was honest... and my Solar will remain off till the fix is complete. Of course I get another Vivint bill for 143.00 and our electric bill is what it was before Solar...
SO HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE MY SYSTEM BURNED UP... WELL OVER THREE WEEKS AND NO PLANS TO FIX ANYTHING... We never get any updates unless we call... and then you get the only answer Vivint gives... "We are waiting for the claim to be processed." Seriously - is their any doubt what needs to be done? You're going to have to replace my 200 amp service panel with a new one... and then you have to install the PROPER rated 60 AMP breaker this time... So it's time to lawyer up and get this fixed right. And just think this is year one of a 20 year lease with Vivint...

I just want to say that I am so pleased with the work Vivint Solar did for my Mom's house in Northern Baltimore County, Maryland! Since I live up in PA, when I heard that my aging mother was approached and considering going Solar I nearly had a heart attack thinking that she was going be ripped off or taken advantage of. As it turns out, I contacted her Vivint Solar Rep A really considerate guy named Jeff **. After grilling him for 30 minutes or so, I realized he was actually the real deal and was only looking after the well being of my mom. I was really apprehensive about my mom making the transition to solar energy because I had heard some horror stories from co-workers who, as it turns out, did not have any firsthand experience with solar energy. It seems there are a lot of experts out there who don't have any real knowledge or experience with today's advancements in solar energy.
In the end, my mom's house looks great, her BGE bill is next to $0 and her life has not had to change in the least. I learned along the way that qualified homes in the state of Maryland have the choice of going solar without having to buy or invest in solar panels. I also learned from Jeff that there are several companies who offer no-cost solar panels, but after getting to know him, I am so glad my mom stuck with Vivint Solar. Along the way, there were some small hiccups with my mom's electrical panel which had to be brought up to code, which Vivint paid for! Jeff was always available to answer my questions throughout the process which took about 3 months from start to finish.
Bottom line Vivint Solar has a great reputation and is a good company, but more importantly to my experience, Jeff made the whole process simple, comfortable and rewarding! My husband and I will eventually be living in my mom's house and we are thrilled about moving into a home where energy costs will be so low! All I can say to Jeff is THANK YOU! Thanks for putting up with my questions and being patient with me! If anyone out there in Maryland is considering looking into solar energy I highly recommend contacting Jeffrey ** at ** or **.

My wife and I moved in with my mother in law after a life event. Having had a solar on our previous home and a great experience we were happy that it was already installed with our mother in law, for about a month. Within the first 90 days of us moving in and taking over the finances we saw a problem. The solar was more than the PGE bill used to be. After investigating we found that the contract was set up in a way to not help my mother in law. They said they would monitor her system but they failed at that not once but 2 times. When I called to talk to them a very nice southern lady told me straight up "its easier if you just pay your bill and not make a fuss." Needless to say that was the wrong thing to say. After we had the tech out we found out that the original installer had not tightened any of the wiring in the outlet box they installed initially.
2 months later my mother in law calls me and says a wireless "thing" plugged into the wall with the ethernet wire going to the router was "red". So I called and turns out the system had not been running for several week and they were sending us "estimates"? Is that even legal?? So, after a trip my wife and I took we came back and my mother in law had "upgraded" the system saying the sales rep said our bill would be "next to nothing". Well the "guestimates" have been anywhere from 90.00 to 195.00 month because the system is not back on yet. The true up with PGE is currently at 800.00 and counting (so much for savings). How can a company bill based on guestimates?
So my wife and I sent them a nicely worded but stern "cease and desist" letter and froze the acct. Based on THEIR contract and pursuant to the section referring to "seller default". They will no longer speak to us except to demand money. Which I am happy to go to arbitration but they will not respond. My wife and I are now seeking legal representation to sue and possibly file a class action suit against both Vivint and SunEdison for seller default, false statements and advertising and substandard work. I will post updates as we progress.

Vivint Solar is by far the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. We signed up for their "free" solar panels, provided due to a government grant in CT. The sales rep who worked with us, Jamie **, promised if we switch to solar we would see savings on our energy bills. She said based on our design that would function at 102%, our energy needs would be met by the solar panels and our electric bill would be minimal (just the service charge of roughly $20 a month). Jamie and the website state you will see savings of 10-30%. I can honestly say this is anything but the case. My panels were installed in Nov 2015- thus process seemed to go well, but took time for the inspections, etc. I was finally authorized to go live with the system at the end of March. I was told by Jamie, that at any time if the system is not functioning, Vivint will alert me and send out a tech to fix it.
For the months of April-July, my system was not working, but I was still being billed by Vivint AND my electric company. Vivint told me these bills were based on estimates, even though I had no production. So now I'm paying double each month. I had to notify them that the system wasn't working. After numerous lengthy phone calls, a tech came to my home on July 19. All he had to do was plug a box into my modem so the system could communicate with Vivint. I was told I would be prorated for the month of July and credited for April-June. BUT, they only have ONE person who processes credit/reimbursement - so it may take a few weeks. Now they have only credited me $318 of what I paid. They still owe me $156 plus whatever the partial month of July would be. I have been waiting and calling on this since August 22.
In the meantime, my last 2 electric bills have been over $90 and my Vivint bill this past month was $145. My electric bill before the solar was working was $150- and that was with A/C on. Where are the savings I was promised? Today I called yet again and was in the phone for 3 hours!!! I was transferred to 3 different people. One told me they couldn't get a tech out here until 10/10 at the earliest to fix the gateway that isn't working again. Another told me my electric bill must be so high because I'm using more energy than last year - ummm, NO! And that I need to add panels. He just wanted to get rid of me, so he transferred me to sales to get more panels. What???
Finally I spoke with someone in sales who said we really don't need more panels - we have a ton and that he thinks the system isn't functioning properly to work at the 102% designed. He was going to transfer me back to their Fleet Performance team, when I advised him I was already there 2 hours ago and they couldn't help me. This rep named Ben was very helpful in that he said I should be reimbursed in full and went ahead to e-mail Fleet with myself and a manager cc'ed that they need to have my system checked by a tech.
This has been the worst experience. I have been paying over $100 more each month than I did before the panels, no one seems to know what they're doing, they are understaffed and most don't know how the system even works. Everyone at Vivint plays pass the buck. I want these things off my house and out of my life. They have not delivered on anything they promised. Signing with them was the biggest mistake of my life.

They are rude, they lie and their product is apparently garbage from our experience. I am only sorry I recommended my Son and a few friends as it started out well but once you sign it turns to trash. STAY AWAY!!! Sincerely disappointed.

We signed up with Vivint in May 2015, after some prodding the solar panels were installed in early September 2015. Since then, absolutely nothing has been done, nothing. We haven't even had a county inspection and all I get is that there is a problem with our "as designed" and "as built" plans. Occasionally they send someone out to look or take pictures, yet nothing has transpired. I was told there was a problem with our county regulations, but I just spoke with a neighbor whose system is now operational. It took him just shy of a year. What a joke of a company. I'm trying to figure out my legal options and divorce myself from Vivint. I could not be more disappointed.

Vivint made the process of getting solar extremely simple. My sales rep, Steve **, took care of all the paper work, filing for permits, working with the utility company, and even answering my many questions throughout the process. He even showed up on installation day to make sure things went smoothly. (Very professional and well done installation!) Also happy with how the support staff at the HQ followed everything up, completing the CO process with the town. My only "cost" was a check for $1 at the beginning to do all the financial stuff, and they even gave me back the dollar on the first bill. Can't wait for the first billing period with my utility where I get a credit. (Best so far has been a bill for 2 kWh!) I chose Vivint over actually purchasing panels outright from some other company because they have an interest in keeping my system working a peak efficiency. Very pleased.

I would like to share my good experience working with Vivint Solar's Rep. Michael ** who has a good knowledge about how solar works and able to answer all the questions that I had, he got my solar systems installed much soon than I expected (despite of all the complicated procedures). And I am very satisfied with the installing team who manage to perform an outstanding job on my house. Special thanks to the team leader Jason and James.
