What is SunScout?

SunScout is a solar energy company that specializes in solar panel installation. SunScout has experience working with contractors for residential installations. It provides solar panel, battery storage, roofing, and heating and air contracting services. This includes solar panel installation, repair and maintenance, as well as consumption monitoring and battery storage. SunScout panels come with a 25-year warranty on equipment and services.

How does SunScout work?

SunScout projects begin with a proposal. To get one, you’ll need to submit a current electric bill, information on your home’s roofing materials and some roof photos. This information can be submitted virtually in the initial process. After the proposal phase, SunScout completes a site check. Engineers visit your home to build out the requirements and mock up the final designs. Once you give approval, SunScout files permits and orders equipment for installation.

Installation can take as little as one day. After installation is complete, it can take one to four weeks to receive approval to operate from your utility provider. On the financial side, SunScout can help you determine if you should lease or purchase your solar panels outright. There are $0-down financing options available for purchasing and leasing.

How much does SunScout cost?

To get costs from SunScout, you need to request a proposal. This starts with you providing the company with your current electrical bill data, information about your home’s roofing materials and pictures of your roof.

As a general rule, solar panel systems for an average-size house in the U.S. (after solar tax credits) range from $11,144 to $14,696. There are several factors that affect cost — the panels are only a small part of the overall price. Labor, installation, project size, panel materials and tax incentives also affect cost. It’s important to note that solar panels are designed to lower your monthly energy bill, which helps you save money in the long run.

    Reviewed March 12, 2024

SunScout installed our solar panels in April 2023. We were assured we get in with NEM2 before the 4-15-23 deadline. After no response for several month, no call backs, blocked email, I finally reached someone at SCE in November of 2023. They advised me that SunScout did not clear any discrepancies on the NEM application, which they did not receive from Sun Scout until August 2023. Since there was no response from SunScout, SCE withdraw our application. As of today, March 12th, 2023, there is still no PTO from SCE and no NEM app on file. Don’t know how to proceed. The panels are up, city inspection was done on 8/23/23 but no PTO. I do not have the expertise to fill out the app and SCE does not return calls.

Sunscout promised to have our solar installation complete by year end 2022. It is July 18, 2023 and the project has not been completed. They did not file our NEM application with Southern CA Edison as promised.
