I wanted to have savings so I went with Sunrun. Enrollment was good. I set up a phone consultation with Sunrun since I've met with them once in the past. And then, from there it was a bit of a pain because they called my father's phone number even though I gave them my number. And then, when I called them back the gentleman I spoke to wasn’t the one for the appointment, so he didn’t have any of the information. He had to go in and do everything, so it took much longer than anticipated. Nonetheless, the installation went smoothly. The guys were really nice. So far, I'm very happy with the decision to go solar. My bills have been very minimal, just the connect fee. However, I'm not happy with Sunrun's app. Every time I try to log in, it says, "Welcome. Would you like to go solar?" even though I've been solar for some time now. It has never worked properly for me. But that's okay, I can go out and look at my panel if I want information.
Because I had so many troubles with the app and their communication, I had to contact them four or five different times to get my phone number on everything. My dad technically owns the house and they have his number, which I understand. Legally they have to have the contract in his name, but they keep calling him for appointments even though I had asked multiple times to have my name put in there and my phone number. So, my father would have to call me and the whole thing would be delayed by a day or so by the time I could get back to them because they weren't contacting the right person. I had to send multiple emails asking for that to be fixed. Sunrun is definitely worth checking out. The price is really expensive but it came in at the right price for us and Sunrun was able to do what we needed. So, I would recommend it.

I have had Sunrun for about a year. I was told that the solar panels would create extra solar power during the colder months and that I would have a credit to pay DWP for the summer months. My system produces barely enough power and I have been paying both Sunrun and DWP. I have contacted my sales rep Seth ** a few times asking for help to maybe add more panels so I don't have to pay DWP and now he won't even return my emails. I am writing this review to help as many people as I can. I am looking for all the websites where I can write reviews. People don't waste your money. You will be stuck with this company for 20 years PAYING TWO COMPANIES SUNRUN AND DWP.
Thank you for your feedback, Ramiro. We are so sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your solar system. Our number one goal is to provide clean energy but also that should include some savings. We based the guaranteed production on your pre-solar usage as long you are using the same amount of energy you should not be seeing higher utility bills. We would like to look into this for you. Sunrun went in our community and they had reached out to me. I explained to them that the solar panels and lowering my electric bill sounded good. But, I couldn't afford another expense because I'm retired and the Social Security in retirement is not going up. And I spoke with Brandon and he told me that it would be at no cost to me. And then, later on, after the guy came and checked, they told me that I needed to get my roof repaired. They were here earlier and they checked my roof after a storm. And they said I didn't qualify to have the roof repaired. I told them I couldn't afford to do it. And I was told that only half of the roof would be repaired. I told them it didn't sound feasible.
And then, a young man who was working in the neighborhood came by and told me that I have hail damage. He also told me to call my insurance company and he'd go up there with them when they would inspect the roof. So, he did and they replaced my roof. I called Sunrun back and told them I've gotten a new roof and asked them what will happen. The person I spoke with said they would have to get their guy back out there to look at the roof again and then, they could do another estimate.
And then, someone else had taken over and I told him that I was told that it would be at no cost to me. And he knew there was no cost. They put the solar panels up and the only papers I signed was for something for doing the box on the side of the house. Then, I got an email stating that my bill for Sunrun was past due. So, I called and I wanted to know what was due for Sunrun and I found out that it was for the lease on the panels. I told them nobody ever discussed leasing the panel and I was told that there would be no charge. And they just said that my bill was past due. I didn't want anything past due as far as my credit goes like for so long. I told them that I'd pay the $45 and I needed to see the papers after that.
I saw the papers and my initials are not on them and it doesn't have my signature. And I didn't see any papers dealing with finances prior to them sending me supposedly my copy in the mail. I don't appreciate the idea of my name being signed on something that I was told would be at no charge. Also, I paid $45 last month and I just got a bill yesterday that says I owed $90 now. I wouldn't recommend Sunrun to a friend because if they try to slip in papers like that to me, they may try it with a friend.
Thanks for contacting us, Betty! When we convert a new customer to solar we certainly want to make sure they understand the agreement they signed. A Specialist has reached out to you and we are hopeful we can find a solution together!

Our electrical bill would vary between $70 and $400 over the course of the year and we wanted something that would normalize or offset that as well as help pay for it so we looked into getting solar energy. Within a year of having Sunrun installed the system went down and was out of commission for three months while we were waiting for a service tech to come out and fix it. And then they came out, couldn’t find anything wrong with it and reset it.
And I said, “Well, that’s going to work for me. If you’re going to make me wait three months, you’re going to have to replace something.” And they did. They replaced some power inverter and it’s been working fine since then. We’re now on our third year. It’s a little annoying what APS does with them. APS changed Sunrun's rates because they have solar, and are not buying that much electricity from them but yet they're providing electricity at APS. And one annoyance I also have is that between Sunrun and APS it’s extremely difficult to decipher my usage and what they sold back. The values don’t match between what APS reports and what Sunrun reports. They’re reporting different things. They don’t really make it easy for you to figure out what’s actually happening. But Sunrun definitely normalized our electric bill throughout the course of the year to a degree. We don’t have this slight variations in electricity usage and we’re quite pleased with it.

I moved to a new home and my bill came in at $545. I got to go solar and I enrolled with Sunrun. The rep came to my house and educated me on the panels and what to expect. He was amazing. And I felt very informed in forming my decision. I tracked my bills for a few more months to make sure that I’m getting the right size system.
Sunrun's customer service team checks on me more than I need, and they’ve been keeping in contact with me throughout the process. I got the panels installed in November. And it was the worst month since the daylight is not as long as normal. But everything was projected that my system will do and it looks like I got exactly what I was supposed to get. My system is not producing its maximum capacity right now because we’re in the winter. But the days when it was sunny, it did what it’s supposed to do in the summer so I know I got exactly the size that I wanted to get. I'm satisfied, and so far, my experience has been amazing.

I wanted something cheaper and a friend told me about Sunrun and I went with it. Their enrollment process was very good. They were fast and they did a clean job. The customer service team was very good too. They were very punctual and they kept their promise. They did very well all around. However, I didn’t expect to have two bills. I cannot tell if my real goal was met because my goal is to reduce the bill but I’m getting 150 from here and 180 from there so I am about 300. It may be a little bit bent on the bill in terms of cost but I was expecting that it would be a very big difference but I don’t see that. When you combine both bills you know that where I was before is close to where it is now but it’s a little bit on the lower side. I’m still watching the number though. It’s really too small so I don’t have much to really compare it.
Furthermore, it is difficult to refer somebody. I called customer service one day to get a reference and they told me to go to the website to do this and do that. But I had to postpone it because I don’t have too much time in a day. The process to refer somebody up has to be easier. Nonetheless, I would recommend them for now.

Solar is the way to go. My stepson installs solar hut in California and he told us that it would probably be our best bang for the buck here in Arizona. With the rising price of electricity, we were trying to find a cheaper means to live our lives. The enrolment with Sunrun was okay but it was the office kept making screw-ups.They didn’t get the layout right and then the permitting wasn’t right. They messed it up. They had arranged to put the unit inside. And when they came, their drawing was all for the outside. And so then, they had to go back and redo that. And then, they messed up the permitting so it took more time but eventually when the guys finally came to do the job, they did great. We've only had one bill and so far it was good.

My daughter told me about Sunrun. I've thought about it for years. I like the idea that it's got to do with energy conservation and helping the earth. However, it was out of reach financially, and we talked to one that had incentives for installation, zero consumer cost. Enrollment was easy but there was a lot of back and forth, but I think it was necessary because the crews had to be involved. Nonetheless, it was worth it. The customer service has been spot on when I talked to them. The installation took three months from the time the panels got put in, to the time they got turned on because it went as far as country inspection, inspection from the power, inspection from a lot of stuff. I assumed it's the usual red tape if there's any type of switchover on your electrical to a different source.
I have not regretted going solar. The only thing is it has broken my gutters because of the snow. We've had an unusual two periods of snow, which put about five or six inches of snow laying on the grids and then it got my gutters and one of my gutters had a dent and it's at the very top of the house, which needs an extension ladder to be repaired. Unfortunately, that didn’t fall under the category of their responsibility. So, they told me it's up to me to get my gutter repaired. I'm a little disappointed with that. But I now have a gutter that's turned sideways instead of turned up and I had a different carpentry company hired to fix it.
Furthermore, I found that their engineers who had met with me and showed me the aerial diagrams went over with how much percentage of solar power given the angle of my house as well as all the stuff I was eligible for. When they did come out, I took the day off so I could be here to see what was going on. And as things changed with the tab, they accommodated me on the placement of tab doors and the wiring, how it led from the panels to the house to where it would aesthetically look good. And I was very, very pleased with that aspect. They did their very best to conceal as much of the tab doors as possible and that's really a big deal. The visual of my house is not ugly. It looks really nice and I found the crew that came out to be very professional and very nice.
Our first three bills were $25, and then this last month's bill was $190 something. So, I don't know what happened. I haven't been able to check inside. I took the day off and I thought I should call them and ask if their meters are running properly because they probably also have snow. My solar panels are covered in snow. And then, we've also had winter with its different angle of the sun. So, I figured that would cause the big jump in my energy cost, but it's also gotten cold too.
Thank you for your communication, Donna! We are happy to know you are satisfied with your solar system. In the winters you do produce the least amount whereas the Spring and Summer months give you your production at your highest. That could be the leap in your bill. My father was 85 years old when a SunRun salesperson leased a solar system to him. They told him the system would be totally free. All he needed to do is provide his roof in Yuma Az. That was a lie. They then wrote a lease with him listing his middle name first and his first name second. Had he saw that he would have corrected his name. They then set up his billing to be sent by an old email address. He hasn’t opened an email in 5 years. So he never saw or paid one bill. He died about 6 months later. That’s when the family found an unopened bill from SunRun informing him that his account was delinquent and his system was going to be deactivated. We paid the bill unknowingly what had happened.
Nothing happened until January of 2018 when we get another demand letter. I was at his home in Yuma at that time and contacted SunRun to find out what was going on. I discovered the solar system was producing less than 40 percent of the production guarantee. I explained we had never gotten a bill because they were being sent by email that was never opened. 3 days later I get another demand letter threatening deactivation if payment isn’t made. Because of the loss of production SunRun owes him about double of what he owes them. If this isn’t resolved fairly I plan on suing them for bad faith.

There's a person working for the city of Norwalk that doesn't like how we have our stuff in the backyard. They'd tell us to pick the stuff up and do it their way. The city is in the way for the residents to install solar panels, and that's why people don't want to put them up. I hired Sunrun because they promised me they were going to take care of these people in the city, and they did.
However, I found out that I have a bill with Edison for $40 every month, which was hidden and they didn’t tell me. I called Sunrun yesterday and I talked to Brad, and he told me the opposite of what Edison was telling me. Sunrun told me that I dealt kilowatts, and I gave them so many kilowatts during the day so whatever I used at night, it shouldn't count because I produce so much energy. But Edison told me that even though I produce so much energy, I still have a deal with them. But I only pay $20 to Edison every month. I was paying $300 for electricity in the summer, but now I only pay $150. I am very satisfied with Sunrun.

I have contact SunRun letting them know what happened and they told me to send a summary of my usages with Edison, since them I have submitted the summary and still no contact, this has been going on since December 2017, they claim they have never received the summary, I have faxed and email and still nothing, I am very upset, I wish I never received solar at all.
Now I am stuck with it, also they told me I am responsible to pay the Edison bill again which is $3300.00. I am now making payment to Edison, which I cannot afford. I have spoke to another solar company about my issue, and they have explained to me that SunRun should pay for this bill, and this shouldn't have happened. I’ve been doing everything possible to my home over the years without going solar and we were very efficient compared to all our neighbors. But then, Arizona Corporation Commission was messing with rates on the value of solar so I decided to try solar energy. We were running out of time and because of Sunrun's financial price benefit, I went with them.
I was really pleased with the project management process with the sales rep I had. Everything they said was on time, on plan and fairly accurate. The system got hooked up and all went well. My rep was technical and was able to explain things but maybe not quite enough. I probably would’ve upsized the system a bit more. I told her that I was not experiencing the full benefit of the full output yet. I was already with a load controller and it’s providing almost 100% usage which is a little hard to do in the winter because we don’t have sun after 5:30. But I’ve seen some neighborhood blog stuff with people complaining about Sunrun. They seemed to rebuild their sales reps and the whole solar model in Arizona’s just really fractured now. Other than that, I’m pleased with my decision to go solar. In fact, I got a neighbor who booked with Sunrun because of me.

They emailed me updates, gave me links, and if I had any questions, they answered them promptly.
So far, everything has been working perfectly. It generates a good amount of electricity, like what I was anticipating it would do, and it has been problem free. It’s nice to know that that I’m spending a set amount for electricity over the next x-number of years and then my basic electrical needs will be basically free after that. But I had seen someone in the park that had solar energy so I knew that another company could do it. I got Sunrun and they installed the solar energy system for us. Enrolling with them was good and, so far, everything has been good too with customer service. Our solar energy system has been running for a couple of months now and we've seen a decrease in our electric bills.
The only problem we had was that when they came to install the system, they just hooked it up and left. They could have explained a few things but they didn't say anything and we didn’t know if the system was already going or if we still had to do something, and we also had no idea that there were going to be several things added to the front of the house. We have enjoyed the panels on the roof and the lower energy costs, but the customer service lately has been terrible. Sunrun's meter stopped working and rather than replace it with a new wireless meter that would work in our area, they told me that they needed to drill into through my wall and hardwire the meter into my internet router. That is nonsense and not required under my agreement. Despite that, rather than fix their equipment, they have continued to threaten to terminate my performance credits (in breach of their own agreement). I have requested to speak with their legal department, but they refused and indicated that their legal department is not "customer facing." I asked to speak with a supervisor but was told I was speaking to a supervisor. Before this experience I may have recommended Sunrun to other people, but no longer. Very unprofessional.

A Sunrun system was installed in the home when we purchased it. It's the first solar system that I have been involved with. So, I called their customer service team once and spoke to a gentleman. He explained to me how the system worked. The system works and it has been fine. I'm in the Palms Springs area. And it's very popular here for lease system and although it has nothing to do with the system per se, I wouldn't have leased it because it's a big burden and they get the ride off. But, it was the way the original homeowner had it installed. And so, I rent it and pay Sunrun for all the energy that's generated. And then we pay Southern California Edison for what we need beyond it.
I pay 19 cents per Kilowatt hour instead of 22 to Southern California Edison so it's a little bit better. But, if I were about two miles from where I am now, I would be on a different power grid from a different provider. And it would be 13 cents an hour I'd be paying for the energy generated. So, I'd be paying more to have solar. So, where I am now is a slight advantage.

The process took a little longer, around two months, because of the approval, the step-by-step, but they did well. Whatever I asked to their customer service, if they don't answer, they would call me back right away and they gave me all the information I need. I went on vacation for like three or four weeks and there were changes on my billing. They cover everything. I'm happy.

I looked at about five different companies and created a spreadsheet on them all and Sunrun beat everyone else’s program by far. Most of the companies didn’t have a lease program so that was one of the big deciding factors. I love the company but I am still trying to get a rebate back from them on a referral that I gave them. And I’ve contacted them a couple of times about this referral and they still haven’t responded and taken care of it.
The installation was done through Solar Energy World. I’m in the middle of the winter and after doing some research of my own I had to find out that that’s the worst time in the world to really see the meter move backwards. And so recently they sent out an email that described that basically in the wintertime, most customers do not see the true benefit as far as their bill is concerned because they have a Sunrun bill as well as their normal utility bill. And because of the amount of sunlight they may not see a difference as far as cost is concerned once you add two bills together. I wish they had told me that earlier. It would’ve saved me a lot of research.
I was getting frustrated because here I am expecting my meter to run backwards in the middle of the winter and it’s rare that that happens. But when I called them because I was not getting any readings whatsoever once the installers finished they responded very quickly. They sent someone out here from Solar Energy World. They found out that the system wasn’t programed properly and they got that fixed quickly. So my only frustration right now is this rebate issue. And so I sent them two clients -- one I’ve received the rebate on. And the biggest one was 84 panels versus my system being 35 panels and I’m still waiting on that rebate so I’ll reach out to them again. This will be about the fourth time I’ve reached out to them.

My wife and I were searching for a solar company because it was starting to be allowed in our residential area in Staten Island. We had a meeting with a company named Level Solar and when my wife was at Costco, she saw the representative for Sunrun. She took a pamphlet on the information and I decided to give them a call. I liked the meeting we had. When I had a meeting with Level Solar, they weren't compromising. Sunrun had a lot of benefits and they addressed rebates. Plus, Costco was giving a 10% rebate on the purchase of the panels, which is an additional $600 gift card.
Throughout the whole procedure, they were very informative and hands-on. They kept on checking up on me, and every time they would do something or send any paperwork, they would call and follow up on it. If I didn't respond to an email within a day or two, they would call and remind me about it. That was a big plus. Sunrun told us that the whole process was going to be about two months. And it took about three months from the time we started to the day it was finally done. But that was because we had delays. We had a scheduled vacation and we were out for a while. But I wasn't in a rush. They also had to get approval from the city. Overall, it was a great decision to go solar. Our electrical bill recently was around $13 and I've recommended Sunrun to a lot of people.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, Richard! We loved reading your review. We are so proud that our staff was able to provide you with a one-of-a-kind customer experience. We are thrilled to welcome you to the Sunrun family.

I am extremely upset with Sunrun not taking responsibility for the leased solar panels on our roof. We have had them for 7 1/2 years now. We have had 5 different instances of roof leaks. Our leasing agreement clearly states quote "SunRun will insure, maintain and repair the Solar Facility at no cost to you, including inverter replacement". Every year we get new leaks. Our roof was 4 years old and never had a leak before their panels were installed. The installers have flashing that they now use to prevent the leaks. Sunrun will not authorize these flashings to be put on the roof I have to just wait to get another leak and have someone come to fix it. Unsightly water stains, painting, ceiling etc is not pretty, not fun to fix and not my fault and I certainly don't want more or to do it again.
We still have 13 years on the lease!!! I have talked to a customer service rep, a manager, in the past 7 days and I now have to wait 3-5 business days for it to escalate to the next level to get a callback, send my complaint in writing to their headquarters etc. The whole experience is a nightmare, time-consuming and not customer friendly. MOST OF ALL THE CONTRACT I SIGNED STATES THEY "WILL INSURE, MAINTAIN, AND REPAIR THE SOLAR FACILITY AT NO COST" to me. What part of maintain am I missing here???

A Sunrun salesperson had been going door-to-door in my neighborhood, because a lot of people in town were getting solar panels. I decided to give Sunrun a call. I didn't know anything about solar panels and I wish I had done my homework prior to signing any agreement with this company. I contacted Sunrun to find out about their company and was misinformed about a lot of things.
Had I known at the time what the salesperson was saying was False (A lot of it was not all of it) I would not have decided on solar. My original PG&E bill was around $129 a month. Sunrun said I would only have my $84 a month bill and that PG&E would actually owe me money at the end of the year. All of this was completely false. I ended up having an $84 a month Sunrun Bill Plus a PG&E bill running between 40 and $80 per month, and at the end of this year I had to pay PG&E $500 additional dollars?
I was going to sell my house and originally I was told that if I sell my contract is void with Sunrun. Now they are telling me that it's only void if the person that buys the house wants to take over the contract. If not I am stuck in a 20 year contract even if the house is no longer mine. I can go on and on about things that were told to me that were incorrect, more than unhappy with this whole entire experience and I am going to get out of this contract. One more thing. Even the installation was not done well. They came unprepared. They didn't have everything. They didn't even tell me when they were coming. They just showed up one day. All in all this company SUCKS!!!

I've been looking at solar energy services for a long time and I didn't quite know how to get it. So, when a man from Sunrun came around the neighborhood, I enrolled in their services. Their enrollment process was easy. However, the details should've been explained to me more such as what it was and how long it was going to be, etc. I was under the impression that once we bought it, that's it and that's the price.
There's an environmental impact but I do not know if it saves money. Once I went to solar, I was still on a two-tier graphic with PG&E, our electrical company. They then brought us to a three-tier program where they drop the cost per kilowatt at seven at nighttime and it started later instead of going early in the morning. It was a different tier of charging therefore, I don't know how much it saved. After being here for so many years, I think they should offer me the opportunity to buy the system and then they provide the service. It sounds all right. I got a used system now and I should be able to buy.
There was no cost-effectiveness if your electrical company changes your system where you have high and a low buy, when you buy the electricity, say from seven in the morning till seven at night and then it drops price between seven at night and seven in the morning. When you go through a solar system, instead of having levels of cost, the electrical company, the PG&E in my case, breaks it down into three levels instead of two. So, they shorten the low cost and lengthen the more expensive cost.

Updated on 02/28/2019: This is my second review of the company. If you are considering this company, BEWARE! They do not honor what they tell you. READ YOUR CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING IT! I have had several problems with our system since day one and it has taken me several days and months to resolve the issues with Sunrun. The latest one is the issue above where two out of 21 of our panels were not working. I had raised this issue with Michael ** and while he (Sunrun) admitted that there was a problem with the inverter, it was fixed (so I was told). Still, I was not satisfied with the result because our electric bill is still high and while I am constantly monitoring the solar edge dashboard it seems like the production is low.
I brought this up several times with their customer care and with Mike **. On many, many occasions I was told by their customer care that there is a performance guarantee and Sunrun would pay us if the system does not produce the energy we needed to power our house. Then, I was told that there was no performance guarantee. In fact this is what Dierdre ** of Sunrun wrote to me on March 16, 2017:
"You are signed up with Sunrun for a Prepaid Lease agreement. This means that Sunrun owns the equipment and you are purchasing the power, not the equipment. Since you do not own the equipment, it's our job to fulfill your lease with whatever equipment delivers on your contract. Your Sunrun agreement is for a system that produces 7,357 kWh a year and 2 batteries, each with a 6.4 kWh capacity (12.8 kWh total). This is exactly what we have finalized your system designs with, as we are not yet designing our Hawaiian customers with the LG Chem without the supply. We have been promised all the remaining Powerwall 1.0s from Tesla and they are almost to the island, ready for install in Spring."
When my husband called Sunrun two weeks ago that the battery backup was not working, a technician came four days later. I then asked him why I thought the system production seems low. He then checked and found that there were 2 panels were not working. So I wrote to Mike ** and he responded that he was sorry that I received information that contradicts my agreement.
This does not make sense. If half of the panels were not working, does that mean that we just take it in stride and accept the fact that the agreement with Sunrun does not cover performance guarantee? We are leasing the equipment and therefore, Sunrun needs to make sure that the panels are working properly to deliver the energy we need to power our house. We never bought new appliances, use our appliances mid-day to obtain maximum energy and report to Sunrun when there are anomalies. DON'T GO WITH THIS COMPANY. Check BBB and reviews before you make a big mistake.
Original Review: I am writing this review to warn prospective customers to look for other companies for their solar system and NOT with Sunrun. Their team does not know what they are doing, they are not familiar with self-supply (battery operated) system, they tell you different excuses, there is no follow up, they do not fulfill their promise like the referral fee (it took almost six months before the person received it and yet they keep saying it is being processed.), and their technicians lack the training even their Customer Care representatives.
I have had several problems/issues with Sunrun. I have a self supply system installed in June 2017 and the first 3 or 4 months, my system has been supplying Hawaiian Electric (HECO) excess production, which is not supposed to be the case. I have been paying HECO so much money like before. I called HECO and they were the one who told me that my system should not be sending HECO excess energy from my system. I called Sunrun, they sent a technician and only then I saw my utility bills lower. They told me they would monitor my system but I ended up monitoring it through my computer dashboard. After a long and several conversations with Sunrun they finally sent me a refund on my utility bills. That is because I have to include their CEO, Lynn Jurich, in my email.
In December, a Sunrun technician came to change something. Then I noticed that our system was not producing anything again. Was Sunrun monitoring it? Of course not! I have to call them again and told them that whenever a technician comes, they make matters worse. The technician came and fixed the inverter. I received my utility bill and it was higher by $35 from the prior month and yet we were not home for two weeks. I called again and asked that they should refund me. Melissa ** from Customer Care said that they will look into it (her supervisor said they would issue me a credit for the difference but I argued that they should refund me for the whole thing like what they did before.)
I have had several conversations with Sunrun about my system production and have been told on many occasions that Sunrun would guarantee generating ** kwh of energy every year and it falls below the ** kwh, I would get a refund. Melissa was surprised that my contract did not state what the production would be every year for 20 years. She said this was the first time she saw such a contract without itemization. While she was checking with her supervisor about my request for a full refund, she then told me that because I have the BrightBox that there was no guarantee how much energy production my system will make and am not entitled to a refund. I asked her so if my system is not producing energy for ** number of days, I don't get anything and she said yes but they will make sure that my system is operating. How can she say that when I am the one monitoring their system and not them.
This would mean I will end up paying more in utility bills. I received this email from Dierdre ** of Sunrun on March 16, 2017: "You are signed up with Sunrun for a Prepaid Lease agreement.
We have been promised all the remaining Powerwall 1.0s from Tesla and they are almost to the island, ready for install in Spring." Notice what she said that my system would produce 7,357 kwh a year! The same information was given to me over and over when I call Sunrun. Today, was different. I am not done with my issues with Sunrun and will continue this battle with them.
Thank you for your feedback, Tessie. We can certainly understand your frustration, especially if you feel you are not seeing the benefits of going solar. We would like to better research this. Our Management Team has reached out for further information regarding this matter.

I've been with Sunrun around 16 months now, and I can honestly say I wish I never went solar. Originally sold as a 94% energy offset, they revised the system and stated a 70ish% energy offset. After over a year with them, they just don't generate a lot of electricity at all, and even the electric company asks me if there's an issue because they aren't getting much electricity from my system. Top that with the fact that the first year fell short of their guarantee (and I'm 100% positive it will be worse this year) and the cost per KW is higher than the electric company... I'm just wasting my money to be part of the "renewable" lease fad. And now I'm stuck with this for another 18+ years. Worst decision I could have made.

Jeff updated their star rating from a 2 stars to a 1 stars after speaking with the company outside of the ConsumerAffairs platform.
Not resolved, the company deliberately sent an email stating a technician completed a full inspection of our system. Problem is, my wife is a homemaker who is always home and no technician has been to our home. Upon discussing this with a customer service rep at Sunrun, they openly admitted that no technician actually came to inspect the system and that it was not true. He suggested the problem "self-resolved".
At this point, I'm confident Sunrun should not be in business, and that them (and others like them) are a new variation of predatory lending, setting up 20 year leasing contracts that do not produce anywhere near what they claim. All this, while charging more than the electric company for usage that I suspect isn't even accurate (or truthful based on my discussions with them). If you're considering them as a new customer, I sincerely suggest avoiding them at all costs and tell their salespeople that you read reviews on legitimate sources like this suggesting you tell them to take a hike with their sales pitch.

I am very disappointed in the lack of actual customer service from this company. They are all smiles and friendly until they get their system on your roof; then "poof", you can't get any help. We chose not to sign on for the auto-debit payments because we were concerned about giving access to our account. We were assured by our SALESman that we would receive an invoice and we could pay online. No invoice received, called SALESman, he referred us to customer service. No response from customer service. No invoice. Repeat call to customer service. They'll "look into it". Surprise! No callback. Guess what we get? A COLLECTIONS NOTICE. Thank you very much, SunRun.
Now we are dealing with a Collections Guy. No problem, we've been trying to pay FOR FIVE MONTHS. Ask the guy nicely if we can get the late payment charges waived, he says "no problem!". We go ahead and pay the back charges AND set up auto-debit. So, in October, an extra $96 gets taken out of our checking account. Okay, guess The Collections Guy was wrong about it being "no problem!". Nice to be notified. November comes, and in addition to my regularly scheduled payment ANOTHER $96 goes out to Sunrun. Why? That's what we asked. Nobody knows. Nobody can connect us with billing. Nobody can call us back. Ah, then we have December. In December, Sunrun helped themselves to an additional $192 out of our checking account.
So now, despite DAILY phone calls to "Customer Service" and The Collections Guy, requests to speak to some sort of Supervisor, and an email to the SALESman (had told him we would NEVER refer anyone to Sunrun; he offered to "help". Lol. Referred us to "Customer Service"...guess we were too stupid to have tried that!) Sunrun is still holding our money hostage and no one can seem to come up with an explanation. So, auto-debit is cancelled. I will not allow these people to steal from us any longer. I would not recommend this company to anyone. And I was so excited to get Solar...
Thanks for your feedback, Kathi. One of our goals for Sunrun is to be customer obsessed and clearly it sounds like this has not been your experience. A Specialist has sent you a private message. We would like to investigate this further and see what we can do to fix it. We have sent you a private message.

A Sunrun salesman came by and told me about solar panels and what the benefits were. We decided we’d go with it, although I originally didn’t want to, and we've been online since October 11th. Right now, we’re having an issue where the panels are producing and working according to the way they’re supposed to and I look at it from time to time, but my energy company, Duke Energy, is not getting the data or the net meter. So, we’re still getting our full bill from Duke Energy, which is about the amount I’m paying Sunrun.
We had the same situation last year and I told Sunrun that I got to pay Duke Energy because they’d turn me off if I didn’t. I was getting tired of paying both. I paid for them for my power bill to be reduced and it would be a great thing if it worked as it's supposed to. I wouldn’t purchase something that I really didn’t want or need, and if I’m not getting any benefit from the panels then it’s paying Sunrun for nothing. I’ve talked to the salesman about that and was also on the phone with someone from Duke Energy today to try to get it straightened out. The salesman tried to help me out so it’ll be a good thing if we ever get it straightened out. But right now, it’s a little frustrating.
Overall, the customer service all respond. My account manager has been out for a while and I had to call him every time I sent an email. He said he’s on leave till late January but other than that, everything was great. There was a young lady that filled in for him and she emailed me back and responded toward my concerns when I sent the email. But for what I’m getting the concerns, it’s not only on Sunrun. And the communication between Sunrun and Duke Energy is not that well right now.

We already had solar in the past so, we were looking to replace our older panel. I'm a broker and I knew about Sunrun through ACN. They were great and very professional. They were also courteous and patient with us. The enrollment was a long process but their reps were very helpful. We were working through the details needed in a very busy time frame, so it took a while. Our installation team were fabulous, too. Before we initially set the date to install it, they told me that I had to clear out my attic. I have eight kids, no closets, and there was 20 years worth of stuff out there. But it was a project that I needed to get done and I completely cleared it out, which they weren't expecting. So, the install went really fast.
I'm curious to see how it all looks after a year and I want to know when my utility company would do my true-up based on the date that I started solar. I thought it was going to cover more of my bill because it was unclear. But I know that Sunrun would true-up and we'd cover 84%. In fact, I just talked to them yesterday about understanding payment and what does it actually cover. They were very good.

I’ve been doing solar energy for the last 20 years. When we moved to Colorado from Illinois, that was foremost on my mind as this would be a better place for it. A neighbor told us about Sunrun and we had Namaste as the installer. They sold the system and Sunrun did the leasing. The process was pretty easy and we got quite a better deal than if we would have started it at a later date.
But we were very poorly treated by their customer service. We had an inverter that failed and it took almost a month for it to get repaired. Sunrun, although they have an installation group and they have an office in Westminster, they said they couldn't service it and we had to have one vendor do it. He said that should I expect to hear from them in three to five days. I told them everything about the problem. They came out and inspected it and said they'd have to order a converter.
I was dumbfounded as I could not understand why that was not something that would be in stock. It took another three weeks for them to get the inverter. They said they couldn't give me an idea when it would come because it could be two weeks or two months. I was very disappointed with that. That was a year ago. But after it was installed, it’s been working fine. I would have liked to have added some more panels and that would be a whole new contract with a second inverter. We should have probably have ordered more panels when we did it to begin with, but I didn’t understand at that time that I couldn't enlarge the system without a separate inverter and going through the whole thing again.
The other thing I didn’t know that could be done with the panels was each panel to be isolated from all the others so they wouldn't give that shade. It wouldn't degrade the production from the rest of them. That was something I didn’t understand. Perhaps in 2011, that wasn’t even an option. But for 16 panels, it's doing about as good as it can for the panels that we got back in 2011. Our system performs as advertised. It's about half of our usage. The Sunrun generation has been about 4,100 to 4,200 kilowatts hours per year. Our usage is just about double that. I'd recommend Sunrun but with the exception of the service department. I was not pleased at all with how we were treated there.

We were new in our area and had Trinity Solar come up at our door. They told us about solar panels and had them all put up. Things have been great since the installation and I feel like we make more solar than we actually use. Last month, our electric bill was $11. Sunrun administered the program. It was easy enrolling with them but the entire process took about five months which was a little bit long.
Then, I had to call their customer service. They administered the bill but never got it delivered. Then we got a second bill saying, “Past due!” I told them the situation and how we had already been enrolled in automatic draft. I even called them to say that I didn’t have a bill yet. They told me it was being processed but apparently, it just wasn't delivered. They took my bank account information again and drafted the payment that I needed. The lady understood where I was coming from and why I was angry and annoyed. But still, they’re a good company. They just have to stay on top of their billing process and make their website a little more user-friendly.

Sunrun offered a program that would lower my bills for 50 bucks a month. Also, I didn’t have to put anything out of my pocket and I am on a 20-year program which I can renew at the end of 20th. The enrolment went well but I was trying to get them to paint the existing stuff to match the house for HOA purposes and I wound up having to do it myself. They said one thing and turned around and didn’t do it then.
Primera Solar, one of Sunrun's sub-contracting companies, did the installation. At that time, Sunrun said they’ve had so many installations and they had to use other companies to help get the job done. Even though it was all Sunrun product that was being used, I asked the guy who did the installation of the meter boxes. HOA requires that they match the house and not stick out like a sore thumb and he said I can paint them but not until after I’ve been inspected and the main meter has been installed. So after I had the main meter installed, I checked with my local Sunrun person and he said they would get it accomplished. But after a couple of weeks, there was no accomplishment and so, I kept checking on it and finally the rep said, it was out of her hands.
I had to go to the main Sunrun company and in doing so, I was told that the painting should’ve been done at the time of the installation. I told them that the installation wasn’t done by Sunrun. And the rep said the paint had to be supplied and had to be done at the time of the installation. My neighbor who was a referral from me wound up with Sunrun installing his and they painted all of his stuff, which was what sort of got me. I got tired of messing with it. They keep saying that it was policy. They should have somebody at the other end not say they would do it, and they would call and have it taken care of, and nothing happens.
Thank you for your feedback, Joe. A specialist has sent you a message regarding your request to get your meter painted. Please respond so that we can get this resolved for you.

I was at Home Depot and an NRG representative approached me about solar. When the meeting was set up with NRG at my place to go over our options, they let us know that they were working through Sunrun. So I did my research on Sunrun and they seemed like a big company with a good reputation. When we got started, the process was easy and simple. Originally, when I spoke to the NRG salesman, I told him I wanted black panels on the house, not the blue panels. When the supply delivery came, the panels were the blue ones. So that was a little snag and it set us back around three weeks. But they ended up correcting it, and the panels we have on there now are the ones that we wanted. Our roof is black, so blue panels on a brand new black roof would have clashed and looked a little weird. And if we want to sell the house, we want whoever the buyers are to be happy with the house and the panels as we are.
So far, the panels work great. But I have this ongoing issue with the Sunrun meter itself. It appears that the first Sunrun meter may have been defective. It wasn’t working so I called customer service and they had some outside vendor replace the meter. But it looks like they ordered the meter from somewhere else rather than Sunrun. Now I have a working meter but it's not reporting to Sunrun. So Sunrun is not able to see the production that’s happening at my house. I'm not sure how it happened but it's a little frustrating because I thought the problem was solved. Apparently, whoever the outside vendor was that did the work must have ordered the meter from somewhere else.
I've had to call Sunrun a couple of times because of this issue and their representatives were great. But when we spoke to the department that connected the meter to watch our production, they were unable to connect to the meter. I sent them a picture of the meter to show him that the serial number I gave him was correct. After I sent them that picture, I never heard back. So the follow-ups should be improved. With the age of the internet and reviews on it, that’s an easy problem to correct but that can cause a lot of issues for the company if they don't nip it in the bud right now. Other than that, it seems like the company is doing the right thing and I hope it continues that way with them for 20 years. I would recommend them.

When REC Solar was doing some promotions to get solar, which is economical and good for the house, Sunrun was at there. I got a fairly good deal and I didn’t have to do much of anything except for signing Sunrun's contract which was straightforward and simple. Going solar reduced my cost probably $150 to $200 a month and that's net of the lease payment that I pay Sunrun. They've been great to deal with and the whole process was simple. If we could get everybody to do solar, that would be great. But the big objective for them is to figure out how to make the panels cheaper so everybody can have them on their house.

So far our enrollment with Sunrun has been good. It’s just that the way it was presented to us in getting into it is costing us more than if we hadn’t gotten it. And I understand that maybe in the long run, in another ten years we’ll probably even out. But with the lease fee going up three to four percent every year plus our regular bill amount it's quite a bit. And it’s just my husband and myself here and we don’t use that much so we're paying a lot for it.
I found out that the sales rep who helped us left because we had referred about five people. And I guess he didn’t turn those names in. And one, I knew for certain, so we got paid for that and then I just said, “Forget it.” And just told the other people and my neighbors on my block who I had given names to, not to get it. I’m also thinking about these panels on our home and the leaves. No one has contacted us about how to clean up under there and I don’t like that either. It would be nice if someone would call me.

We had a Sunrun salesperson come by the house. He talked to me and my wife, and we were already interested in solar at that time. The salesperson knew a lot of product knowledge and he was easygoing. He was there throughout the whole process. It was a pretty easy and smooth process. I like the fact that it has one flat rate for a certain amount of time. I also like that I can check my smartphone for the kilowatts it's producing in a week. I'm pretty satisfied in going solar and I really recommend Sunrun.

In February 2017 our sales rep sat in our kitchen telling us how much money we were going to be saving with Sunrun. Filling us with the fear of the extensive electrical bill hikes that were going to be happening and that electrical would be so expensive without installing panels. How would we be able to afford our electrical without going solar? We would have a set monthly fee that would slightly increase each year and a minimal APS hook up fee each month of $15-20. They got us scheduled right away so we could have our panels up and running so we could start saving immediately before the massive summer bills hit, unfortunately, due to installing the wrong equipment, it took 4 months to have our solar turned on.
When it was turned on, one of the boxes were malfunctioning and it took another month to get that fixed. In hindsight, it was a blessing because all we paid over the summer was our electric bill. Each month since we have been using our solar our APS bill has doubled. Yes, doubled. I just received our APS and it was DOUBLE what it was last month. In fact, it was almost what it was last year, with NO SOLAR. So now, we are paying the same electric bill + solar. So I am now paying DOUBLE for electricity. What is important is Sunrun received all of their rebates for installing panels on our house.
We have sent multiple messages to our rep letting him know our dissatisfaction and have received no responses. I am sure they will tell us we are using more electric - we are not. We are very conservative with our electric and do not even use the heat in the winter. They will tell us we don't have enough panels to support our usage - of course we were told enough panels would be installed for our usage. Now we are stuck for 20 years and right now, I really don't know how we are going to afford our electric and solar bills. We feel completely scammed. We are frustrated and angry. I have noticed since we went with this company there have been a high influx of very bad reviews. Obviously, Sunrun, you are doing something very wrong. If we don't have a resolution resulting in our bills going down we, too will be seeking legal action. And if there is a class action lawsuit, you can bet we will join it.

They were also the first one to talk about the solar experience. Customer reps treated me very good as well. I had a lot of bad experiences with my bill but they explained it to me, what happened, and everything was resolved. The installation took a while but everything came to par. I'm retired and I'm getting on a fixed income. It seemed like every time I turned around, there was a rate increased and I didn't seem to benefit. I was looking at every option to try to maintain. We had a friend that got Sunrun. I had an easy experience with them and although it had taken a long time, that was because of the electric company. Once the installation got underway, it went really fast. The guys that did the labor on the roof had a great sense of humor and they did a good job. I was out and they explained every step of everything while I was standing out there so they had nothing to hide.
After the installation, it wasn't so great though. We got the authorization from APS to go ahead and start and Sunrun called me to start. We did the turn on sequence and it wouldn't work. Their guys came out and checked it and said they had the wrong inverter. So they put a new inverter on. Now that the billing has taken effect, I've got the proper amount of money going to Sunrun and to APS so I'm happy about that.
But for the past two weeks, I got emails from Sunrun telling me that they couldn't monitor my system because they didn't seem to have the right serial number of the inverter. They keep telling me to go out and take a picture of the side panels that had the numbers on it. I sent them the numbers that were there three times but they kept telling me those weren't the right ones. But those were the only numbers on the thing. So I sent them a very colorful letter telling them they needed to find the tech that installed the system and have him come and finish his job and get their numbers. No one has come as of yet.

Signing up with Sunrun was a very enlightening experience. It was very easygoing and free flowing. There was two people there that did the sales, and they were just easy to talk to. They presented it at all, and they didn't try to twist my arm and make me get it. They just showed me the options in a nice and friendly type of way. It just persuaded me to go ahead and go with them.
Initially, I got an email from Sunrun stating that I was going to make my first payment in December, and this was October. So in November, I didn't make a payment. But then in November, I got a call from Sunrun after I had paid all my bills. They said my payment was overdue. I shared with them that I got an email saying my first payment was going to be in December. I've already spent my money and I can't make the payment in November. They were fine about it and said that they'll just work it out. And I just need to start paying them in December, which I did.
I talked to a lady in customer service in December and she was also easy to talk to. She was very friendly and cordial. She talked to me about my bills and payment. She set up a payment plan with me to increase my rate for a few months until I get caught up, then it will go back down to what the original premium was. I was very pleased with the customer service and how they worked with me in light of the mistake that they made.
My bill went from $900 a month to 10 or 13. It's so remarkable that I've recommended Sunrun to several other people, and I have two of my friends that are already signed up and got their roof plan laid out. My wife is pleased with the fact that she can turn the heat on when she wants to, and leave it on as long as she wants. She's just happy-go-lucky now.

Baden from Sunrun is absolutely terrific. He was very clear and his explanations were spot on. He did not spend way too much time in the house. Getting the solar power system installed was a long process. But he did not overstay his welcome. We decided to go ahead with Sunrun for the cost after. We're leasing. We did not purchase solar, but the cost was the same as what we’re paying now, which begs the question, why doesn’t everyone have solar?
Enrollment was very easy. They have an online step-by-step process, and it’s very clear. I’m not a computer person at all, and I had no trouble with it. Once I got it installed and it was up and running, I didn’t see the sun for six days. It also did not go online when it was supposed to go online for the first time. They monitored that and they had to send someone out and recalibrate it. Nonetheless, I'm very satisfied since it was installed. It's fantastic. My bills have been $65 and $64. Baden also stays in touch. I’ve made a referral to a couple of other neighbors. They all said, “We’ll wait and see how it works out.” Here we are a couple of months down the road, and there’s been no concerns and no reasons why everyone shouldn’t have it.

Our local utility company, Unitil, provides us both with gas and electricity. While we were on vacation we received a letter in June, saying that they were going to raise our yearly budget from $325 a month to $400 a month. They were forcing my hand. I’m retired on a fixed budget so I looked into solar energy services. I had looked at three different solar energy providers. I went with Sunrun for they sent someone out right away to do an inspection, both internal and external on the roof. And then basically, it didn’t cost me anything initially. I plan on buying them out this year, it's like $37,000. Then I get the benefit of selling power back to the grids.
Sunrun installed 44 panels in half a day, had it all wired in and all set up. We couldn’t turn it on till it got inspected, and that took about two or three weeks and we had to get Unitil’s okay. They dragged their feet, and it took probably six or eight weeks before we actually were up and running and registering. They had to come out and change the meter too. Sunrun had another trouble. For two weeks, we were producing electricity, but it was monitored on my cell phone app. They couldn’t monitor it. So, we were getting power during early October for free for two weeks. But they came in and put some sort of modem in. Now they can monitor it.
Up until just recently, we were producing more electricity than we were using. So I wasn’t getting electric bills. But we had a big snow storm, and I haven’t produced much electricity in the last two or three weeks. But they tell me it’s supposed to be in the 50s, and with three or four inches of rain, Saturday, it would wash it all off. As soon as we’re replugged, we will be back up and running. It has produced even on a cold day. My experience with Sunrun has been fine. I haven’t had any trouble.

I’ve heard about Sunrun from Costco, and the gentleman that I talked to was very encouraging. I’ve been aware and kind of looked into energy services a little bit, but without any serious intent because I wasn’t relaxed puting myself into that kind of debt. But because Sunrun went through Costco, and I’ve found Costco to be an extremely reliable retailer overall and also because they stand behind their products, I thought it was time, and it made good sense. Plus, I had a new roof on my house, so I didn’t have to worry about that. The whole thing went extremely well. The people who did the installation were extremely considerate, nice to be around, and got the job done. Also, the loan that I got was very, very advantageous. Plus, the warranty was excellent. So, to me, it was a win-win all the way around.
Knowing that the energy I’m using comes from a natural and renewable source, I feel better about myself and the decision I’ve made, which is a good thing. It has also cut my utility bills from SPG&E into below nominal, and it’s amazing. I recommend this company, as well as the overall package that I have. It’s probably one of the best deals going.

My friend and I tried building our own solar panels a couple of years ago and got really interested in it. We fixed up some solar panels so he could watch the game on a TV and run several other electronic devices. I heard about the deal that South Carolina was offering. At my age, their incentive wasn't very attractive because my income is not enough to where their incentive would have been a real benefit for me. But when Sunrun came out with this package with VECA, a friend who was a salesman for them came to my home and went through the program. However, he didn't really know what he was talking about and so, I turned it down. Later on, I contacted four other people from different parts of the state, and two of them came, went through the program with me but I wasn't too impressed with any of them.
Then, there's a young man, Zephaniah who was as sharp as a tack and knew what he was talking about. Sunrun sounded really good to me so I jumped in with those people. My light bill before was tremendous. They did a lot of investigation that went back a few years or so and found out what my average bill was with Duke power. And then, Sunrun told me what their rental rate was if I rented the unit from them, and that it was going to save me about a little better than half of what I was paying. That was very attractive plus, the idea of making my own energy. There's a lot of things left that wasn't making any difference, but that's an accomplishment to see those things in my house making energy. And, I'm making more energy than I'm using. So, that's impressive too.
The enrollment process was fantastic. They took care of everything. They came out, dug my house out, and a young man crawled around in my attic. It has been a really good job. Then, when the time for the installation came, they came out there. Once I talked with them and had several conversations, I found out that those guys were super intelligent. They knew exactly what they were doing and they got it done. When they started doing the rewiring, they priced everything that I had and put all new stuff in.
Two weeks later, I came home one day and there were two guys on my roof and two guys at the panel box. I asked them what they were doing there and they said, "Well, we were monitoring your production and one side of your house was not producing as much as it should have. So, we come out here to fix it." I had no knowledge of that but they monitor it and they wanted it to come equally on both sides of the house. To me, that's impressive. And I've invited three or four people to talk to Zephaniah and they have. I got some of the power bills and I'm going to frame it because my first bill after the complete switch over went in was $8, and that was the connection fee just so you can have the service. That impressed me too.

Last spring the process started to get solar panels on my house. I was told Sunrun would take care of everything. Not so. A man came out, decided I needed extra support in the attic, and left. I was told a team would come out on a specific day - they didn't. Three days later some guys came, unloaded lumber and went in the attic. After a short while, they came back out with 1/2 the lumber. Apparently the first guy made an error. Eventually a 3 man team (supposed to be 5) came out and worked. I have a small house. Installation took 5 days instead of 3.
After installation, it rained and I had a leak in my ceiling. I called but they could not get out until it had rained again - making the leak larger. Finally they stopped the leak but never repaired the ceiling. The power company came out to inspect and it failed twice. A Sunrun rep called and got this straightened out so we had to wait on the power company to come out and turn on the power. After 2 or 3 weeks, I finally called the power company and asked what the holdup was - and they just hadn't put the paperwork together. At that point, everything came together. Sunrun never called them. I had to. I got a call from customer service asking for feedback. I called them back but no answer so I left a message. To this day I have never gotten an apology, explanation, anything as to the poor installation. Wish I had it to do over again.

My Experience with sunroom has been a complete nightmare. I would not recommend this company to Anyone. First of all during the installation I was told they would install “a box”. They ended up installing three boxes with extra-large conduits. It made the side of my house look like an electrical plant. I called to complain. They promised to come out and paint the conduit to match the color of my house. I thought this was a fair resolution until they didn’t properly match the paint color. Now that my system has been installed for exactly one year it has never produced the energy promised in contract. It has always produced 30 percent less than what it was supposed to.
After 6 months of calling customer service and them making excuses of “Shade issues” finally after a year they sent another technician out who found That almost half of my panels were not properly connected and we’re producing zero energy. All the while I’ve been accumulating a huge $1400 “True Up bill from PG&E. I figure that common sense would say that because it was their mistake they would cover the charges I incurred because of their mistakes. I was told that they may only cover a portion of it and that it would be credited back to my Sunrun account. I explain to the customer service rep that this was an unacceptable fix. I told him I needed the money to pay my PG&E bill. I was very abruptly told they were under no contracted responsibility to do anything else. I told them I don’t want the system And they told me that I was on the contract for 20 years and there was nothing I could do.
I also stated that I should not have any true up Bill as the salesperson came to my house and sign paperwork with me told me that he would install enough panels to where I would not have a true up bill. I even called the salesperson six months later as my true up bill started to accumulate and I was told that everything should start to level out once we are in summer months with more sun.
I Was very upset and asked to speak with a supervisor. The customer service rep put me on the long hold. When he returned he told me that the supervisor was too busy to take my call but that he was given permission to “apply” for a direct refund instead of getting a credit on my bill. This was almost 2 weeks ago and I have not heard anything from them since. I did however see a $350 credit on my SunRun app account. Are you kidding me? My true up bill is over $1400 and their fix is to credit my account $350.
Either way someone screwed up. They obviously didn’t install the system correctly and if I’m only getting a $350 credit then there are not enough panels on my roof to cover the cost of energy which was promised when I signed up. And I dare Sunrun to argue that I’m using more energy now than I was before because I know for fact that I’m not.
I was running a full-time business out of my home before and was here 24/7. I now work out of the home so my energy usage should be less. I am so disappointed and still waiting for my call back from customer service. I caution anyone who wants to put solar panels on the roof to really go through the contract with a fine tooth comb. I would even have a lawyer look it over. Understand what you’re getting into. I know that if I had understood how this crooked company does business I would have never signed the contract. I’m sure by reading all the other Sunrun responses on this review site, they will tell me that a customer service rep will be sending me a direct message. I Believe this is a generic response that will probably lead to no resolve. I hope they prove me wrong.

And they want me to call PG&E and tell them that they have a problem on their line and PG&E definitely won't hear about that. They said PG&E don't want to listen to a solar company. I don't think that's my responsibility. It's not my box and it's their communication with them that they're having problems. They needed to have the City come out twice and inspect. They grounded it and then something else went wrong and just one thing after another. But the quality of the work during the installation was done first class. Everything's fine with Sunrun. They were really good as far as what we asked them to do and them working within our timeline. I went on a three-week vacation right before it was done. We signed the contract but we had them hold off installation until we returned. Then, they were here the following day to install everything. However, during the first few weeks, our unit didn’t get activated when they said it would be. So we had to contact them several times for that until we finally got it right. We used to have a $300 per month electric bill but now we’re excited to see what the bill looks like having solar energy. I’m sure it would be cost effective in five years from now. They’re an excellent company who followed up any issues we’ve had with them. I’m so happy with Sunrun.

Initiated solar installation on my rental property. Paid a $500 deposit in the summer of 2017. Installation was scheduled for NOVEMBER of 2017 with all inspections a GO!!! Two days before the installation was to take place... we were informed that it couldn't be done because the house needed a new roof. SAY WHAT? After much deliberation, we decided to cancel the entire process. We were told that our $500 deposit would be refunded within 1 month. It is now 12/27 and we still have no refund... and have been told that the 'check is in the mail'. Lots of crummy reviews... and here is another one.

When the salesman came out he stated we would be saving money. He said the amount of panels we were getting would be plenty to produce the average electricity we were using, as long as we weren't leaving everything on. We do not. We owe SMUD over $950.00. The panels only produce a fraction of the amount we need and it's been 2 years. $900 is twice as much as the previous year. I already pay Sunrun $141.00 a month and averaging over $110.00 a month to SMUD. Our bill is much higher each month than without panels. Not only that, but they cracked multiple roof tiles and never fixed them and made a mess they never cleaned up. I will definitely never refer them to someone else and I'm so disappointed I trusted them.
Thank you for your feedback, Teasha. We are so sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your solar system. Tanya spoke to us about solar energy services and we loved her. She was very honest, answered all of my questions, and she returned my calls when I called her. However, we had some issues. We signed the first papers in February and we didn’t get the service turned on until October. We got turned down on our inspection twice. We live in an area that’s rural and it’s county but our mailing address is in the city of Phoenix. So when they offer inspections, they called looking at the address in the city of Phoenix but inspections were not done here. So they sent a crew back out here to take care of it. We just paid our first bill and then our electric bill was $68 so we were happy about that.
If somebody asks me about solar, I would tell them to call Sunrun. I like the fact that they stayed on top of stuff but they ought to get more knowledgeable subcontractors. Their subcontractors had a tractor out and dug up ditches on the front and killed my plants in my planter. They never put anything back and when I called and complained about it, they sent a guy back out to straighten it up with a shovel and two rakes, which is all they did. Finally, I got somebody to come in, help me move the boulders, and rake up the front, and I spent at least $600 out of pocket.
Thank you so much for your communication, Barbara. We are so happy to hear you had an overall positive experience with our Solar Advisor, however, we are concerned about the issue you mentioned during your installation. Chris, a rep from Sunrun, came to my door with a partner and told me about Sunrun. At the time when he came I had originally signed up with another company about two weeks before. He asked if he could take a look at the contract that I signed. He looked over and enlightened me on some of the details of the other contract that I was committed to. He also compared what Sunrun was offering and what the other company was offering and I told him that Sunrun seem to have a better deal. Also, I got a better feeling and a more honest feeling from Chris, so I ended up going with them.
I started looking into solar seeing the electric bills were high and I’m surprised that the bill I just got from PSEG is still high even the solar panels have been installed for a couple of months. I thought the PSEG bill should’ve went down but they just sent me a bill due on the 30th of this month with 293.64 and it doesn’t make sense at all. I had a prior balance that I did pay off for 184.98 but still they said I have new charges of 108. I have to call PSEG and I was going to call Sunrun also to find out what’s going on. Once my bill gets sorted out I’ll definitely be much happier. I have fantastic things to say about the service from their sales person, to the scheduling, installation and follow up. And I’m very happy with that. I’ve recommended Sunrun to people and Chris had actually followed up on a couple of referrals that I’ve made.

However the website is appallingly slow to load so it is hard to check my power generation. The site doesn’t recognize my email or password, so I need to change password almost every time. Then it takes at least 15 minutes, often more to load and crashes frequently. I have contacted the company but received no response. I don’t see the need for a password in any case - who wants to steal a look at my power generation. This is mindless bureaucracy. All I want is to be able to check how well solar panels are working.

I was looking for solar panels and I happened to see some Sunrun flyers at Costco. I also talked to somebody about it. With Costco endorsing them, I decided to go with it. And so far, I liked my experience. The consultant came and gave us a rundown, designed pictures and some cost estimates. He also gave us a lead to the green energy bank, a Californian bank, to get credit if we want to. And then two of their consultants came and looked at the roof another day. They came and installed on a Monday and everything went perfect. The team was very good because they explained everything nicely. After that, they left saying that after a final inspection, I can turn on the switch. Xcel Energy company came and inspected and said, “Okay.” I turned it on and after that, everything was okay.
So, the set up was fast. However, I had some issue after it was installed. I called customer support and the other end was not that knowledgeable. They were just telling me, “Oh, just wait a while. Problem will go away.” rather than getting into it. If their rep doesn’t know the answer, Sunrun should be able to send somebody because they just installed it rather than giving me this and that information. Apart from than that, I’m happy with Sunrun. The solar panels don’t eat that much of energy cost, almost zero these days for electricity, plus we’ve collected extra in the bank into this. But winter time, we do not get enough. We are using more than we collect. But in the summer time, we are collecting a lot. I’d recommend it.

We were referred to Sunrun by a friend of ours in the neighborhood who had solar installed. We could afford it and since our electricity bill was a bit high, it was time to do it. Enrolling was simple and I was pleased with the process. We contacted the representative first and the techs came out and looked at the property to draft up a potential plan. My husband and I took care of who we needed to call back, but Sunrun contacted us about what the next steps were and there was open and good communication. We never had to track anybody down and find out what was going on or what we were doing next. We had a conference call with the rep about what could potentially be installed in the home and how much energy would be produced in the location of the roof.
After that, we decided we wanted to move forward with whichever financing and payment plan. Other people came in to evaluate and look at the system, and then our electrical panel needed to be replaced, so it was a matter of coordinating and letting us know when somebody was sent out to install things and they changed the panel. It was great that the paperwork was completed by them with our HOA and EPSR service provider in the area, so we didn't have to try to track three different people down to get things completed. They changed the electrical box and we had to get things approved by the HOA, then they came out and installed it. The EPS came out to check and then turned the system on. We made our payment, signed up online and they went online to check to see how much energy we were providing.
They're like a very well-oiled machine from our end of the process. We were excited we were able to get such a large unit on the house and it's been good. My husband manages the bills that come in and he said the recent bill was low, so we're definitely benefiting from the sun even in the roughly cooler climate than the hot 110-degree weather in the summer in Arizona. I would definitely recommend Sunrun to my friends. If people have the fund, even the different financing plan, if they have to go on a month to month lease, it's still a lower cost in some people's homes. The price tag is a little overwhelming, but people should look at it long term. It's definitely a good investment in the home.
Thank you for sharing your experience, Naomi! We appreciate your feedback. Setting the standard in outstanding service is something we obsess over! We are still a growing company and your support is so important to us! We want to welcome you to the Sunrun family.

We held off a little bit, and then, the next year, we went back in and set up an appointment. I chose Sunrun because they are in Costco and they have a great return policy. They take care of you for whatever it is you need, and they do a lot of research. You don't have to worry about it. I'm a big researcher and I trust them. So when they sell something, they have also done their research ahead of time. They are not just selling random solar panels to people out there, who's going to disappear in a few days. So they save me from having to do a lot.
So far, their on-going support has been pretty good. I was being ahead of a guy that I was working with and then he left Sunrun so that left a little gap in time while we were figuring out what to do. But then, the head guy came down to finish setting up with me. And although they broke my lamp and scratched my gutter, I'm not super, super, mad about it. They took care of the lamp and they gave a gift card to take care of that. For the most part, I'm fine and I'm happy with the overall Sunrun experience. I would recommend them.

First 2 years of operation, no problems. Early Dec 2016, I noticed inverter on right (have 2) yellow light flashing, no electricity being produced. Called immediately but it took over 4 months and many trips to my home trying up a lot of my time to finally get it to work. During that time, I tried to get my lease payments waived since it was taking them so long to fix and my electric bills were high since my system was only working @ 50%. Seemed to me 4 months outage @ 50% should get me 2 months relief. Was told by their "customer care" rep that that seemed fair and they would waive, never happened. Never got to talk to same person twice. Would ask to talk to manager, would get switched around, put on hold forever and then cut off.
When it was finally fixed in late April 2017, I was so tired of trying to deal with them, I let the waive of 2 months lease payments go since I would get a bigger credit in October, the annual production guarantee adjustment point. Lease payments are made by bank automatic debit transfers. In July, I switched banks. I went to their website to change my banking info, entered everything they asked for but they kept on charging my old account. Tried it a second time, same result. Third time I called customer service, was told they couldn't do it but walked me through it over the phone while I was online. Looked like it worked and we hung up both thinking it was done. I closed my old account but guess what- they still charged the old account.
On 11/17/2017, the left inverter stopped working, immediately called. After 2 trips, on 12/14/2017, it seemed to be fixed but today, 12/19/2017, back to flashing yellow light. So it looks like I'm starting all over again. This company can't seem to get anything right and I'm very discouraged that it looks like I made the wrong decision to go solar or at least choose the wrong company. How do I get out of this?

The reviews for Sunrun came in well and their initial responses were fantastic. But some of the follow-ups have been a pain. I got a guy that I communicated with and then I didn't get any follow-up from him. So I called the company and started over. They gave me to another representative who went through the file and realized that I was already in the system so then it defaulted back to the original representative that I dealt with, but he didn't respond to emails or calls.
Then, there was an internal struggle because of the different managers. One manager didn’t want to give up the commission. I finally called and ended up talking to the district manager. I said, "Look, your internal power struggles are not my problem. You guys sort it out. All I care about is going solar. I don't care which office gets the commission, but I expect that when I work with the company that they're going to respond in a timely manner and they are going to do what they say they are going to do." After that, I went up higher in the company and said, ""I've already jumped through these hoops. I've already started this process with you. You guys sort it out. Not my concern."
I'm settled and going now. And the good news is, the district manager did a rate adjustment. He gave me a turn locked rate that is slightly lower. It ended saving me a couple grand over the course of the period. It's $80 a month, but it's something. They were able to sort it out and it's been pretty good. We've had the system for three months. Everything runs exactly as it did and I'm sure the cost saving's going to be there. However, it's not the right time of the year for us because we've got heating and air conditioning for the most part. But it's probably going to save me about $250 a month.
I've recommended Sunrun to my neighbors but I gave them a heads-up to make sure to look out for the problems that I had and make sure that they're asking. I ended up talking to the district manager again saying that I was going to send my neighbors to them and pleaded they won't do to them what they did to me. He ended up expediting the entire process for my neighbors who got solar installed now. It went significantly smoother for them than it did me.
Thank you for your feedback Keith. Always providing a great customer experience is the aim of our company, along with, its affiliates! I've called their customer service a few times with questions about solar electrical generation because some days it's down and then up. It seems to be based on cloud cover. Also, if I wanted to add more panels, will I have to increase the inverter. Unfortunately, there's one question they couldn't answer and they didn't know how many panels my current inverter can take for a maximum amount of panels. So for now, I'm just trying to get used to the app which I understand how it works now.
When I first got Sunrun, they got my history of electricity usage which I knew was going to go up a little less than double because of the electric car. But it's difficult for them to use that data because they had to use the actual physical data from the past year. And although PG&E will compensate every time I use the electric car, I'd be paying more if I get more panels. So, it's plus and minuses. But so far, it's been a good experience. Right now, it's $36 for two months on PG&E and our electrical bills but we'll see how it does in spring and summer since I'd get a credit on that.
Thank you so much for reaching out, Gary. We are pleased to hear that overall you are a satisfied customer. Back-up company give you energy in case customers spend all solar panel energy. In my case, Sunrun installed panels and most of my panels were not activated since installation date. And therefore I got a high bill from SCE, amount $1590.63. I reported it right away, technicians confirmed to me, that just a few panels were reproducing energy. So I spoke to Sunrun and told them. They have to pay SCE bill, because it was their mistake. Then Sunrun requested my bill statements from SCE, I sent them twice, meanwhile I was getting a horrible service, they did not call me, letting me know about the status of it. I always was calling or e-mailing, just to received excuses, of still investigating, a department call analysis, was taking care of this matter.
About two months later. I myself called and find out about my case, and just to hear that the person in charge was out of illness, and no one is looking at it. I was in shock, to heard that. But then I waited patiently, trusting that they will accept their mistake, and pay the amount. But what happen after about 3 months. I received an email, from analysis department, with no direct words explaining me the situation, all they sent was graphs and numbers, I did not understand a word. So called them back as usual.
Just to heard that they don't pay customers' bill. I was really irritated, after all my efforts that I did, so they can heard me, they end up saying just that, it is not fair, I kept complaining with analysis person name Kayla, she told me she was going to see, how she can help me, and minutes later, she said, "We can credit you $350. I can order the check now," I said. NO. That is not possible, I kept complaining, and she told me, "My patient is getting over with you. Take it or leave it." All this is unfair, since all I'm asking is their help, to pay for what they did. Later I called another place of their office. And the guy treated me so bad as well. Saying that they won't help me. That is I don't take $350. I will lose it. I told him I was going to get legal help, and all he said, in a cruel way, "Oh ok, let me know when you do it." Please help me.

We signed up with Sunrun in summer of 2016 and finally got the system installed and ready to go in August of 2017. Ridiculous amount of time to get the system up, but it only got worse from there. Our electric bills were still the same for August and September and I was told by Sunrun Customer Service that it takes time to show a decrease in the bill... Ok, kept waiting then Oct comes around and still no change in my bill. When I call CS they tell me that they show on their end my system is producing and they feel things are ok... NOT! I called again after receiving an email from Sunrun stating that they show an issue with my system and will be contacting me to come out and repair it and no one ever called, no one ever came and no one emailed again.
At this point we were beginning to realize we made a huge mistake going with Sunrun. The CS reps are never able to help and give us the same excuses over and over for why we see no change in our electric bill. They say that they feel the system is fine and don't see a need to send out a repair person. After many calls over and over and over I finally was able to get a technician out to my home the first week in November. They walked up to my system and knew right away that the system was not working correctly. Worked on it for 2 hours then told me that they would be working remotely to keep an eye on it and would be back soon to finish the repair.
Meanwhile I am still expected to pay Sunrun over $600 in monthly payments because I refused to pay the bill since I knew that my system was not working, they sent me to collections and today someone called and offered to cut that in half and have me pay $290 instead, she proceeded to explain that it is like a car, if you buy a car and the car breaks you still have to pay the monthly payments… WOW!!! No, if you buy a car that does not work from the day you drive it out of the lot, you get a new one right away, not 4 months later. So here I am in December, my system is off and being "worked on" and I am still expected to pay the December bill as well as half of the last 4 months bills. I wonder how a company like this stays in business. Lucky for me this is a small island that I live on and word of mouth spreads fast.
We won’t be referring anyone to Sunrun and we will make sure we spread the word to all of our family and friends to not make the same mistake that we did. We are meeting with a lawyer this week to discuss possibly being able to get out of the contract that we signed and we are hoping that we can get these panels off of our roof and get a new solar company, preferably a local Hawaii company to get us solar. We made the biggest mistake not going with a local company. I called Sunrun today and there is no light at the end of the tunnel of this disaster we have gotten ourselves into as they are telling us they do not know when the system is going to be repaired, but I am still expected to pay! RIDICULOUS. It never worked from install and basically Sunrun does not care, sign on the dotted line and BAM you are on your own.
Thank you for reaching out, Paula. It is disheartening to hear about your dissatisfaction. We are currently looking into this for you and want to be able reach a fair and agreeable solution. A Specialist has sent you a direct message.

This is my first review ever written on a product. But I feel it is so very important to protect people from falling into the horrible trap that this company sets. My story is too long, but I will let you know that I have been in contact with several levels of administration at Sunrun and no matter what the customer service rep that responds to this says, you must know the truth is, THEY DON'T CARE. They will do absolutely nothing to resolve any of the complaints written here. Their business motto is to trick people into the 20 year lease and then when someone figures out what a horrible deal it is, they tell you that they will never let you cancel the lease. They provide misleading data to make it look like you will save money, they misrepresent the costs over the years, they definitely do NOT tell you that you are stuck for 20 years when you sign and that the value of your home will be diminished and hard to sell if this lease is attached to it.
So instead of telling you how I bought a home with this horrible lease on it and was misled every step of the way and the threats and unprofessional responses I have gotten from the staff... let me tell you two things that will be much more useful to you. SunRun used Bosch Solar panels that were discontinued and then recalled due to a fire hazard. The recall was 8 months ago and they never told one of their customers to turn off or remove the system to protect their homes from burning down. Look on your roof, if you have a Bosch panel, turn off the system. And when you call to say you want to cancel your contract because of their negligence, they will still say no.
SECONDLY, AN EQUIVALENT SYSTEM WILL COST YOU 1/4 OF THE PRICE SUNRUN CHARGES IF YOU BUY IT ANYWHERE ELSE. And perhaps most importantly, if a company truly stands behind their product and their service, they would not feel the need to hold their customers against their will. Let people cancel if you know you have a great product because you know more customers will come. That's called integrity. This company feels it has to trap people just to survive... how do you know? Because of the answer I get right now to this question. I have recalled panels on my roof, I requested to cancel my lease immediately and customer service sent me a $36,000 bill to pay the system off. Will you facilitate an immediate cancellation of my lease right now? Don't send me a private message. Respond to that here, where everyone can see.
Thank you for your feedback, Cindi. Sunrun is more than willing to work out a fair deal with you. You have expressed interest in wanting Sunrun to increase the size of the system as well as interest in purchasing the system. Sunrun has offered you discounts to either purchase the system from us or prepay for the remaining power under the Sunrun Agreement, unfortunately we are not able to add additional panels at this time. You continue to decline the offers we make. We recently mailed you a letter to recap our offers and if you decide you would like to try to work out a fair deal, please contact us right away. We appreciate your business and want to work with you to resolve your complaint. We sincerely apologize for any frustration this situation has caused you.

But we had issues with our roof so we had to get that done. After that, there was the total lending process and then everything was installed in one day. The permitting process had taken the longest time. But once the inspectors came in and the permitting was done, the panels were up and going. But we got a couple of flat tires from the screws after the installation. Other than that, the bill has been going down steadily since we had Sunrun, and I would recommend them.

She was a factor why we chose Sunrun because she made everything easy to understand. She was also super informative and knew what she was talking about and told us that the city was taking extra time and that the system will be installed by July. However, the process took an extra three months since a piece of paper was lost so the system got installed by September. Then, the installation went perfectly fine. Because we own our system, we are now told that we are on our own to figure out issues. They told us we should have our panels cleaned but this may or may not help out in our situation. They told us PG&E was to blame as there were power strikes on our system. I told PG&E this and they immediately came to our home with a tool to look at the electrical input to our home and others in our neighborhood.
I walked with the technician as he did his research. All was good. I asked Sunrun for their report and they did not have one. We are now playing monkey in the middle and this is very very frustrating. All of our appliances, heating and a/c, water heater are 3-8 years old. The utility in the area that I lived has really high electric rates, so I decided to do some investigation. The Sunrun at Costco took my information, and then one of the local reps called me and set up an appointment to visit here at home and review my utility history. From that, they put together a proposal and presented that. Then, I met and interviewed six other companies as well. Sunrun had one of the lowest costs per watt. Also, their local rep was very knowledgeable and good to deal with, and was able to answer most of my questions better than most. The Costco benefits also played a role in helping to swing things towards their direction. And the bulk of the online reviews that I looked at for Sunrun were favorable.
Sunrun got the installation done in one day and did a good job. The biggest delay was waiting for the local city to issue the permit. But once that happened, things went quickly. We had another delay waiting for the city to come out and inspect it, and the last slight delay was waiting for the utility to switch over my billing and system. They approved what they called the net meter agreement, but then it took almost another month for them to get me switched over. That’s what surprised me about the whole process. I knew there were delays with the local government and the utility, and Sunrun gave me some fairly light delay projections. But they were greater than what I expected though I can't really pin that on Sunrun.
But Sunrun handled all that very well and followed up. They were also good at keeping me informed with where things were. Their customer service team was knowledgeable, prompt and polite when responding to questions from me. They also have an independent quality auditor group that came and did an inspection for internal purposes. I have recommended them to several people.

We were looking into solar energy services because our provider was monopolizing our power around here and they're billing up on it so much. Enrolling with Sunrun wasn't difficult at all. They just told us when they would be here and what they would be doing and then, we had to pass the inspection that would determine if they can get to work. They let us know about that and when we passed, they turned it on. We had a good interaction with their customer service reps and they cared about doing everything right. Since the installation, we had a lot less money for power.

We were decided on going with Harmon no matter what because we had three very strong recommendations about dealing with Harmon and Sunrun as a team. And so we got enrolled and it was straightforward, professional and well-done. That’s what we were looking for. Since the installation, we’ve only received one electric company invoice but, right off the bat, it showed us saving some amount of money. It looks good to us.
We’ve already recommended Sunrun to our neighbor and they’re checking into it. The only thing that I’m concerned about is that we have a pigeon problem at our house. It’s not just one or two pigeons and we’re paying a lot of money to try to eliminate the problem. We mentioned to the installers that we wanted a screen protection around the solar panels so that the pigeons couldn’t get a foothold down in the panels. We were told that they don’t do that anymore because it wasn’t really that big a problem and that if it becomes a problem, they will take care of it at no cost to me.

We signed a 20-year lease with Sunrun last year and while talking to the rep, we thought the offer was too good to be true. The rep told us that we would pay the same price for the solar panels for the length of the lease. My husband and I asked him repeatedly if the rate would stay the same and he kept saying the rate would stay at $170 for the length of the lease.
I just found out that the rate increases 2.9% every year, which means by the time the lease is ending, we will have to pay $300/month which is way more than what we pay for electric in non-summer months. I would advise anyone against leasing solar panels. I talked to a customer service rep and she just said that the lease indicates the 2.9% increase. The rep was in our home for more than 2 hours trying to sign us up because the system was so slow and by the end of the process we were exhausted and ready for him to leave. After design team was done configuring my usage I ended up with 19 panels with my salesman James telling me I'm most definite getting a panel upgrade. They came out, installed solar panels with NO panel upgrade then I called Sunrun which did nothing but give me the runaround. My salesman James finally called me. Told me they would be able to give me a 750.00 gift Visa to help pay for the upgraded panel that was going to cost me 5000.00 + then at this point they wanted to upgrade my main breaker for panel.
They submitted all paperwork with city of Phx & APS. Couple weeks later came out with inspectors standing there. Installed a 150 amp which my box was only certified for 125 amp. Immediately city of Phx inspector RED TAGGED BOX. At this time it's late July in order for Sunrun to get new permits. It's 3 weeks out early Aug. They come out to install new upgraded box. Now I'm behind their pig because of my salesman and design team not doing their job. More permits are required. Now it's Sept. At this point my neighbors across the street and next to me also got Sunrun my (neighbor) across the street got everything installed and was waiting for APS end of Sept. He's up and running solar. ME I'm still waiting for Sunrun.
FINALLY in Oct. I get the okay for APS to come out, install their meter so I can finally run solar. Because of all these mishaps I was at the end of the list APS. Late Nov my (neighbor) next to me got all his panels and boxes. All he needed was APS meter. FINALLY on Nov. 6th APS came out. Installed their meter. I'm up and running. I NEVER received my 750.00 Visa. I took off work 6 different days for all this. Summertime long gone. My neighbors up and running 1.5 months before me and he was 1.5 months behind me. James my salesman, Scott his boss, William the head project designer COMPLETELY HAD no communication which didn't hurt them. I'm just a nobody in their world.
I only had 2 people which I won't mention their names that were very helpful through this whole nightmare with Sunrun. If I was to do it again I would of stayed not doing solar. Sunrun communication skills with their customers IS VERY VERY POOR. Between text, email, phone conversation with the 3 people I've named I have plenty of evidence to take them to court and that's exactly what I'm going to do. By the time we completed the inspection by our township and electric company, I came to find out that Sungevity had filed for bankruptcy. A few months later, we received about a 100 page document stating that they filed for bankruptcy and it was final. After that, nothing for months. We waited for the company taking over our account to contact us regarding the transfer and how to pay. Last week, we received a letter stating that we are 90 days past due on our account and we owe Sunrun $294. If we do not pay by the time we get to 120 days past due, our service will be disconnected. At this point, I Google the company contact information and called them to verify what the letter is saying. When I called and informed them that I never received anything from them indicating my account was transferred to them, they said I would have been able to see it on myaccount.sunrun.com.
My question is, how would I know to do this? I never received a correspondence telling me to do so. So, the customer service representative apologized and emailed my new account information to me. He then transferred me to the person handling my account which is currently in collection. She told me that my concern about never receiving a welcome letter or bill for the last three months is neither here nor there. She said that all we need to discuss now is when can I pay this past due amount. At this time, I am now 119 days past due and my service will soon be disrupted. I have had accounts transferred between banks before, but I would get a letter welcoming me to the new company and inform me of how to pay my bill. I only correspondence from Sunrun was the one I received last week to tell me that I am past due. This is not fair. I am willing to pay my bill but this is not fair. $294 without warning is not fair.

Sunrun was going around the area and we set up an appointment with them. Paulson came over. We didn’t know much about solar energy and Paulson explained it thoroughly. Also, it’s good for the environment as well as reducing our bills. I had many questions for him and he was a very nice man.
Enrolling was a pleasant experience and everything went well. They advised what panels would be feasible for the roof that we had, not trying to oversell and put more panels than needed. We live in an incorporated village and the people who came out for the permits did the paperwork that needed to be done. Everything was done according to the regulations of the town. When something was going on with the dial, Sunrun immediately sent somebody out to go look at it and they resolved it.

We could rent the solar energy equipment with Sunrun and the rental was exactly what we needed so we enrolled with them. We almost went with someone else until we realized that we would be dead before we ever benefited from it and we were going to pay more money than what we were paying for electricity then. When we finally decided that we were going to do it, Sunrun set up appointments for them to come out and look at our roof to make sure that it was okay. Then they did a drawing of what the panels were going to be like, turned everything over to my home owner’s association and once everything got approved, they came and put the panels up. So their process was pretty simple and we didn’t have to do anything.
Their rep helped us all the time and he came out after it was all done just to see how everything was. Then we ran into him in a restaurant one day afterward and we talked a little bit more about it. He was great and we were completely happy with him. The rest of the guys did a good job when they were out but we had to follow up with them to paint the stuff on the roof. It's silver and they came out and painted it black forest. Other than that, we were very very happy with our experience with Sunrun and we're liking our decision to go solar, so far.

DO NOT GO WITH SUNRUN!!! I usually don't write reviews but I have never been so upset and frustrated in my life. I spent an hour or so on the phone with a lady crying trying to understand why my electric bill is twice as high a month. All the lady could explain is that I'm apparently using a lot of electricity (which is not true). I'm using more electric than what the Panels are producing and basically there's nothing they can do financially for me. I'm apparently stuck with this damn company for the next 20 years and if we don't pay, our credit goes bad! I feel like I've been tricked into this company and was promised to pay appropriately $130 a month, now I'm paying $230-240 a month for electric!? I don't get it and I want to sue this company for fraud.

I had a high monthly SDG&E bill. Sunrun responded within a couple of weeks and they were warrantied by Costco. The agents were courteous and kind, but they did not answer all of my questions and had to refer me to other agents. Also, SDG&E should be there at the same time when the final inspection is done. Other than that, I've been happy and I've had a great experience so far.
Thanks for reaching out, Laila! We sincerely appreciate you sharing your positive experience. We can certainly use your feedback to improve. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to turn things around. Welcome to the Sunrun family!

My electric bill was running at $50-$200 a month so I was looking to go for solar energy. I also have a family that has solar and it is helpful and gives them clean energy. I saw Sunrun in Costco and I read reviews and checked them out before using them, and they’re a great solar energy company. They have very competitive prices and also, all members of Costco get cash back from them, too. It was easy enrolling with Sunrun. Their sales representative was very friendly, and the installers were fantastic! I really felt like I will be sitting home for a whole day, but they came at 8:30 and even though they did 38 panels, they were done in a few hours and left at 1:00. I was amazed! And they're a nice group of people. I already talked to a couple of people about Sunrun, and most probably, they will be using them.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Farzad! We really enjoyed reading your review! We are so thrilled to hear about your satisfaction with choosing to go solar with Sunrun. Have your lawyer on speed dial if you are dealing with this company. They improperly billed, customer service admitted it, sent it to their billing department to fix it (they must be using an abacus because it has been months), and have now sent their collections department after me when they actually owe me! Every time I call a lovely person tells me they are going to fix it and it never gets done. If you have options I highly recommend finding another company!

I’m under PG&E and I live in an area where the utility bills run very high. I’ve done some homework before and knew some friends who have solar and were very positive about it so I thought I’d take a look. I might have filled out an inquiry in Costco which they forwarded to a salesperson. Then she came out and I spent about an hour with her talking about various elements of the process and what the savings would be. After that, I went online and did some research on solar companies in Northern California, looking for a larger company and for one that had a good reputation. I know those solar companies can come and go quickly but Sunrun seemed to have a strong reputation. They were rated either first or second in California so that closed the deal and I'm very satisfied with the decision.
There was one brief hiccup where there was a change in the way it was installed from the original plan. The house failed the second inspection but to Sunrun's credit, they were out later that afternoon making the changes so, in essence, I really didn’t lose any time. I’m not sure how much of the issue laid with Sunrun per se or with the inspectors though. There were so many different people I had to sign off and things to check on but all in all, every time there was an issue, Sunrun was right on it.
I've had solar installed since September 1st and there’s nothing more fun than watching a meter run backwards. They're smart metered out here and it means we're basically running on solar and not on traditional. Now that the seasons are changing, the amount of sunlight we get changes so it’s interesting watching the amount of solar power generated on a week to week basis. Sunrun was a little on the higher end of the pricing but they have some benefits because of working through Costco so I actually got some savings back. Then there are huge tax credits too, which makes it very much worthwhile. Then there's also the environmental aspect of it and I like knowing that I’m helping that out.
Thanks for your communication, Andy. We appreciate your kind words! We love that you are passing along the word of clean energy. We strive to provide a one-of-a-kind customer experience and it sounds like we are on the right path! Welcome to the Sunrun family!

When we signed up with Sunrun the Sales rep Edward told us that the average customer pays only $25 a month on their power bill with Hawaiian Electric. He stated that he had his son do an experiment by running the air conditioner, fan, lights, television, and everything else in the house to see how expensive it could get running on Sunrun. Then concluded that his power for that month only came out to be $18. After that we were sold!
Later after they installed the system we did not come to a bill of $18 hell not even $25. We thought okay we'll give it another month, nope still the same. If anything we are paying more than we did without them. So we called to complain and the rep stated that we have to wait for a year to see any changes. So we waited and still after a year our power bill never came down to even $100! Maybe if we were not paying Sunrun a $95 we would be saving but we were not! In other words usage 1595 kwh for $408 (without Sunrun) vs 1482 kwh for $464 ($369 to Hawaiian Electric and $95 to Sunrun) we paid $69 more for running less power yeah, NOT. We get more for less just by running on Hawaiian Electric not Sunrun!
So going back to trying to resolve the situation with Sunrun after a year the rep states that we need to add more panels! Really we were also told by Ed (1st rep we worked with) that the panels that we were getting should do the job. Whatever. Okay so we sent Ed an email informing him that we would like to add more panels to our roof and he replied back that he would get back to me after the weekend. One week passes and no phone call or email. So I called and left a message and also sent a follow up email. Then later Ed sends an email stating "I confirmed from both Managers we are not currently doing add on systems at this time. I will keep you informed when we do." Horrible! So do we have to wait for another Year!
Thank you for your communication, Lisa. It sounds like there was some miscommunication that impacted your experience. We understand that solar energy is a new industry that is why we make our lease agreement as transparent as possible, which outlines how much your system is expected to produce each year and how much energy it should offset. We would love an opportunity to review exactly what went wrong here. We sent you a private message so we can discuss this further.

I had a bad experience with an "authorized partner" or reseller or whatever. They took my contract and then they disappeared for months. I contacted Sunrun and they only had the ability to email that partner, they emailed that partner asking them to contact me and weeks go by and nothing. They did this repeatedly and nothing. I ended up getting a Sunrun salesperson to cancel my contract with the disappeared partner and I signed a new/clean contract with Sunrun directly. Problem solved? Hardly. Throughout the process I've gone through 3 different sales reps because of the high turnover on their sales team, they either leave or get promoted to another section of the company or something, but I kept getting reassigned. The latest sales reps have no idea what the previous sales reps have told or promised me or even what concerns I had. Very annoying.
Then they install the system with the cheapest/ugliest roof mounts I've seen, there's a very high clearance between the roof and the panels, they're not "low profile" or sleek, you can stand and look right underneath the panels, very ugly. The panels were supposed to be black but they turned out to be blue, and there was no side skirts or whatever that would help with the fact that they're mounted so high off the roof.
I mention my concerns about the look of the panels and Sunrun told me the only way to get them off my roof was if I purchased the system from them, for around 20k. Great, they essentially told me they're stuck up there now and to get over it unless I want to buy it from them. Wow. Then, their installation gets denied by SMUD 3 different times, Sunrun had to come out 3 different times to rearrange the electrical boxes and such in order to pass inspection, a process which took 2 months. 2 months the system sat on my roof and I've been unable to turn it on because Sunrun can't seem to pass code.
When I brought up all my concerns with Sunrun, I was told they'd get back to me. 2 weeks go by, nothing. I email them and they say they'll get back to me shortly, another week goes by, nothing. Great customer service/support they have... I chose Sunrun because they had better prices and better equipment than SolarCity. I thought they were the much better choice, but their customer service is lacking, their mounting system is cheap and ugly, and they simply don't care. I don't know if I'd recommend SolarCity over Sunrun, but maybe look at the #3 or #4 Solar companies, because Sunrun has much room for improvement before I could recommend them.

We were doing some grocery shopping at Costco and John, the Sunrun representative was there. I inquired about Sunrun and he set up an appointment for us to demonstrate the program. He said it would take a few weeks once everything gets approved and we had to comply with Edison’s demands, and I signed in and went for it. My house does not have central air and I noted that to the agents that came out and I explained the situation. They said they can set me up with an extra panel, so that way, when I decide to put our central air, I’ll be covered and I’ll still have the savings. Someone would have to be at home so my wife was there and they came in so fast and explained everything to her. From the moment they came and installed the system, they weren’t lacking and they knew what they were doing. They swooped down like a bald eagle and the system was installed in a matter of hours when he said it would take a whole day.
Someone from the District came in and he changed the new Edison panel and the circuit breakers and they set up everything. And then we had to wait for Edison to change over and for the final approval, and it was up and running. The system also allows me to monitor the savings online and see how many kilowatts I use per week and per month. Edison has a minimal hookup fee of $10, which the salesman said would be needed because they still have to be hooked up to our system. So far, I’ve only paid two bills to Edison, one for $7.00 and the other one for $11.00. I already made my first payment to Sunrun, coming up on the second one, so it should be okay. Sunrun gave us a gift of a double smoke alarm with carbon monoxide sensor, which was awesome. I’m very satisfied and I’ve recommended Sunrun to a few people. I still have the sign out in my yard and even my wife said it was a great experience.

Our bill was very high at around $500 a month so we decided to look into solar energy. I Googled Sunrun and other companies and Sunrun had the best deal around so went with them. We had a couple of hiccups in the beginning because our breaker panel is not large enough to handle how many panels we initially wanted. But once we decided that we weren't able to change our breaker panel, the process was fine. Everything was smooth. We ended up installing 19 panels and the installers were quick and did a good job. However, the salesman who came up to our house was not very reachable. He won't return my phone calls or text. Other than that, it’s been a great experience. We got a bill from PG&E for $9 and so we're happy and completely satisfied. We enjoyed the experience of going solar and I’d definitely recommend Sunrun.

I had a fabulous experience with Sunrun. I appreciated that it wasn't a hard sell since I don't like that kind of approach. I felt very much in charge, which is how I like to feel making a large purchase. Enrolling with them was really simple. I looked at owning or leasing, which really helped. The first person I spoke to was Delilah, who was very knowledgeable. She knew all the different aspects of it. I also liked the fact that the projection that she made for me was just for my on-peak hours instead of on-and-off-peak, which made it more affordable. She also analyzed everything and told me exactly how much it would be and since it's been turned on, I'm hitting that consistently.
The installation was really simple and it only took a day. The team was excellent. Since my panels are in the back, I appreciated that they went up and over the roof instead of traipsing through the yard over and over again, which was easier for them and for me. However, I should not have planned on sleeping through the installation since it was louder than I had anticipated. I then waited for APS in the city of Glendale to do their inspection to be able to turn it on.
Thanks for making our day, Kristin! Setting the standard in outstanding service is something we (seriously) obsess over. We also strive to make joining our effort in creating a planet run by the sun very clean and simple. Welcome to the Sunrun family!

We bought this home in April of 2017, our former neighbor had Sunrun system installed on his home so we asked him about it. He said he was happy so far but had not received credit yet too early. So we contacted his salesperson Jeff **, he came to our house and gave us a glorious story of once installed, we would have one bill that may be a little higher than usual. But then all we would be paying is the lease payment and about 60.00 to APS. NO, it is now November and all of our bills are outrageous. So I called our salesperson who by the third message finally called me back. He came out to the house and said that it was APS they had changed their reporting or some BS. He assured me (and I know this for a fact as we recorded the conversation) that there was something wrong and he would get down to the bottom of it all. He said there is no way we should be charged that much.
So weeks go by and nothing, so I call again, and again, and again, to receive a phone call back from Jeff saying that he was out of town. Well that makes sense as my mobile phone quits working when I leave town. Now he tells me I should be patient. That I need to build up credits, the problem is I cannot build any credits as my system doesn't produce enough power to even build up on credits. I have also come across other customers with this very same issue. Like the exact same. Right now there are 6. But we receive calls from other Sunrun customers with similar issues. We have been advised to contact a attorney to start a class action lawsuit. If you have also had these same issues. Please contact me at **.

Everything was excellent with Sunrun. My wife researched and looked at Sunrun which had the highest ratings and that’s what closed the deal. The other thing was that the salesman was very upfront, very clear and not pushy. It took us five years to decide to look into solar energy services. Enrolling with Sunrun was an easy and simple process. Communication was there which was the key. The installers put it up professionally and it was good. They went over some small details of how to turn everything on and make sure everything was satisfied and perfect. The company was very classy, very respectful and honest. It would cost us $60 a month for our electricity but then APS is charging us $130 with the taxes. Nevertheless, Sunrun should keep up the good work, keep communicating, continue having the integrity and quality of work. It was a good experience, overall.

We purchased a home that had an existing Sunrun system this year. We had previously had SolarCity so we were pretty excited to have solar at our new home, had we know Sunrun's track record we would have backed out of the purchase. We submitted our transfer form to the Sunrun transfer team in April. A few weeks after we closed we got a call that some of our panels weren't working, they sent a tech out to check it out. He said we needed some additional repairs then we didn't hear anything from them until July, when they came to shut our system down. I called customer service and explained that we hadn't received any correspondence to us at all. Turns out the Transfer Rep had left the company and apparently they didn't transfer our file to the new rep?! Which was our fault?!
Customer service transferred me to the new Transfer Rep who told me I needed to sign a form that held me responsible for the account since the previous homeowner didn't release the system. We had some questions for Sunrun: Before we claim responsibility for the account was there a balance on the account prior to the transfer? Since the solar panels were still not working, how long had they been inoperable? What is their policy on fixing the system? All very normal questions, for a service provider. The Transfer Rep didn't respond to several emails sent by my husband and I, until last Friday, July to November (4 months)! Where did she go??? Her only response was that they are turning our system off. Amazing customer service... We have zero information about Sunrun and we're not impressed at all. We wish we had SolarCity back!

The timing, speed, and installation were smooth and I'm very satisfied with the overall experience. My husband has a disability and he has to have the air conditioner on at night. We were hoping that the solar energy will help us to reduce our use of our air conditioner more and if there’s an outage, we’d be able to keep the wattage going. We did have a big bill beforehand but still, we're hoping that it’s going to be a good investment just to cut back. We had no trouble enrolling with Sunrun at all because, in any of the process, they were very receptive, and if we had a difficulty, we knew we had contact people. We have to average out the first several bills we got after it was installed, so the bill that we got will not be really what it is now and it should be less. We’re not sure and we have nothing really to compare it with at this point so we're hoping that when we get our first real bill from DWP, we'll see a change in it.
The only concern we had was the transformer had to be changed across the street because they’re going through the neighborhood and changing. It has nothing to do with Sunrun, but it was during the daytime when they came through to change these transformers and they had to shut us completely down. I was shocked because I know that if you have solar, that should keep things going during the day if there’s sunlight. They set the whole power down and that was disconcerting. Why would we get solar energy if in the daytime we can’t use it because they’re shutting off the grid? I don’t know if this is what DWP is now doing or if they’re thwarting the efforts of solar energy, but we’ve already paid to have it installed so I’m hoping that this isn’t going to be a problem.
We can contact people at Sunrun but I’m sure they’re not going to have answers for us either. This just happened since it has been installed so it had nothing to do with the installation or the feature of having solar energy. It’s just been now when you’re working with solar energy with the city, it sounds like the city is trying to do something else. I don’t know what that means but we’re going to find out when we get our first bill. I know we’d have problems when the sun goes down and if there was a power outage, we might not have it if the battery pack wasn’t installed yet. They don’t have a big enough battery pack with DWP but that’s in the works, we were told. Nevertheless, we are very satisfied with Sunrun and we have recommended them to another customer. We’re happy with the experience and we’re very hopeful that it’s going to perform as well as they had told us that it would.
Thanks for sharing, Evette. We are so happy to hear you are having a great experience so far. I do want to make a clarification because transparency is very important to us. Since all Sunrun solar systems are grid-tied, they will shut down for safety purposes in the event of a power outage. Grid-tied systems must receive a current from both the grid and the panels to remain active.

Customer service sucks so bad, no resolution in months, billing department prints out fake bills, collections department does what they're told, pretending to send out fake notices. The list goes on and on. Started in June 2017, here we are in November 2017, no resolution, no nothing, no one knows, no one has any records of calls, I might just have to send them my phone bill to prove how many minutes I was on hold or on a call with them (evidence in court that is). Sunrun, what the hell is wrong with you, as a company! Aren't your sales human beings embarrassed to see the public. No wait, Sunrun doesn't care as long as there are greens flowing in!

Going green is great especially in San Diego. The Sunrun system is good for the environment and I saved money at the same time. Sunrun was informative and kept me up to date. The installation went without a hitch and it was excellent. The installation crew and my salesperson were all very helpful. The crew was fantastic, they were speedy and they should keep that up. However, the sales team during the process could have been more knowledgeable. I helped them to resolve some of the issues with the utility company and helped them find a better selling point for their solar equipment because they didn't know how the energy worked with my local SDG&E. They didn't have enough information on how net metering works so I have to research for myself. That's my only complaint that I have because I had to sell my own system.
That's the one process they dropped upon. It was not that bad but it was mediocre. I had to keep pushing each person. Once SDG&E got the paperwork, they gave it to me on the same day to operate. With my involvement, it only took two weeks instead of waiting for four weeks. In the future, they could probably tell the homeowners that they could contact SDG&E themselves because it will speed up the permitting process. When they are done with the solar system installation, I can't use that unless SDG&E gave me permission to operate.
Also, the whole thing sat on the roof, did its own thing but there was no monitoring. They should have an active monitoring where their data is always one date late. I know the new solar companies could actually monitor each solar panel and calculate the efficiency. They're missing that part of the equation. It's not going to change everything but it would be nice to see how they can have a better chart. Their app is very buggy and it definitely needs some help. I had to turn it off and turn it on. And then, with that, I don't get a whole bunch of data. I only get the previous day's so they need to update it. So, at least somehow, their system is there and that thing is shooting up data. But they're not sharing them with their customers to tell them how actively or how good it was in generating energy. Nonetheless, my Sunrun experience has been good.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, David. You certainly make many valid points and we continue to look for ways to improve our company. We appreciate you giving us the opportunity to provide with clean energy. Please provide feedback anytime!

My husband and I have been thinking about it for a few years but everybody kept telling us that because we have attached roofing, we weren’t eligible. So I was googling the best companies and Sunrun kept coming up as number one. I gave them a call and the rep said they could do adjustments and they could do it on our roof as long as we have approval from the HOA. It was in the bylaws that we could do it so we got the approval.
Getting enrolled went very smoothly. I talked to the gentleman on the phone and he emailed me all the documentation. I signed it electronically then sent it back to him so it was extremely simple to do. The customer service people who I talked to or emailed were extremely prompt in answering my questions whether it was through email or on the phone. Everybody that we dealt with was very informative, polite and helpful. It was all done very quickly and they always kept me informed through the process along the way. We’re very pleased with how everything went.
The installation got done a few weeks ago and got approved by our electric company to turn on two weeks ago. I’m looking forward to seeing that it will pay for everything except for the taxes on the APS. I’m hoping that the check that we get back at the end of the year covers all that then I will be doing well. It’ll be costing me less for electricity then.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Janet. We are so pleased you are satisfied with your system. We also want to thank you for thinking of the environment and helping us create a planet run by the sun. Welcome to the family!

We’ve been wanting to install solar for a while but couldn’t afford it. Doing little further research, we found that the solar panels only have a life expectancy of 20 to 30 years and if we finance these panels, by the time their life span is up, that’s the time that our loan will be paid off so we really wouldn’t be getting anything out of it for as much as we would be paying. Sunrun offered the rental option which was a lot better for our budget and worked more in our favor.
Enrolling was extremely easy. From when we first met with the salesman all the way up until installation, the process was very quick. They were also very good about contacting us frequently to inform us about the next steps and what was going on. Everyone that I talked to over the phone had been great and very professional. Everyone that I talked to in person has been wonderful as well. They were very knowledgeable and informative too. The panels have only been on now for a couple of weeks and usually it takes a couple months to start noticing anything, depending on how much sunlight we get. Being in November, the sun is changing directions too but I have full confidence that it will be good.
Thank you so much for your feedback, Shawn. It is very encouraging to hear you had such a positive experience. We aim to keep solar simple by operating efficiently, as well as, being helpful and friendly at every point in the process. We want to welcome you to the Sunrun family!

The forecasted prices of PG&E were going up, so I looked into solar energy services. Costco highly recommended Sunrun so I decided to go with them. Enrolling with Sunrun was easy and once I qualified for the credit check, everything was pretty fast. They have great customer service but when they promised to send somebody out within a week or make contact, nobody did. I called their 800 number but that didn't go too well. So I called their local office and they responded and sent somebody out the next day. They did a great install and the system looks clean and professionally done. My bill statement reflects it so, I'm very happy with it so far.

Sunrun's subcontractors did tens of thousands of dollars in damage, to our home, basically fried our entire home electrical system, and all of our appliances and they refused to fix the damage, and they refuse to let us out of the contract, won't return calls or emails, they cut off all communication when the electrician reported back that the damage was extremely severe... ($20-$30 Thousand dollars). We never signed the contract, signature was fraud by Sunrun employee, we have the IP address of the computer it was signed on, which is in a building in San Francisco (Sunrun Headquarters).
It took over 6 months to get the system installed and working, breach of contract #1. Our home was severely damaged and the repairs never completed, #2. Our System is not producing even half of what it should be #3. They will not willingly enter into Arbitration #4. Still to this day they will not cancel contract or remove the Solar system from our home even though it is doing more damage to our home every day!
I have attached a quote from a local electrician, $6,700.00 to reinstall the hot tub that Sunrun's electricians uninstalled and never hooked back up, trace down some open ground issues, and inspection of the rest of the system, to find out how much more will have to be done... Sunrun told me the check was on the way. A month goes by no check, I call and they say they have canceled the check and will not be paying for ANYTHING... NOW they are under investigation by the SEC Securities and Exchange Commission, for the exact same thing they did to me. You have been warned!!! Stay as far away from this company as you can... Find someone else for your Solar needs.
Thank you for reaching out, John. We are sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with Sunrun. This has been an ongoing investigation and we currently have a customer service manager overseeing this. We have sent you a private message for follow up.

With California buying electricity from Arizona, the bills are increasing every year. Sunrun sent me a quote for the solar panels, then they measured the roof and got the city’s approval. They came back within the week and they installed the solar panel in one day. Then, they sent a request to get the approval from the electric company. The electric company came and inspected, then they okayed to turn on the solar panel. The Sunrun CS has been very good. Every time I called or replied to the email they sent, they answered right away. After going solar, I've stopped worrying about the bill and I can run the air-conditioner for 24 hours. Sunrun also has a good app that I can download on the phone. I can monitor the daily, weekly or yearly power consumption on my cell phone. I already have recommended Sunrun to other people.

We had solar energy at our previous house. We were happy with what we had so we wanted to do the same service for this new house. We reached out and talked to a few different reps from other companies. With Sunrun, they had the knowledge, the expertise and the rates were very comparable. I was very pleased enrolling with Sunrun. The rep has been very responsive. I would call her or text her in the evening or during the weekend and she always replied promptly. So, I'm very happy with that. She had the answer to questions I had or she would make sure she would go find the answer, if she didn't have it right off the bat. But she was knowledgeable. We installed Sunrun system two weeks so it is still fairly new to us and I'm looking forward to my next gas or electric bill to see what difference it has made. Overall, Sunrun has been good.

The solar panels work well, there is absolutely no problem with that, but my problem was the husband and wife sales team. I was told that I absolutely would not pay Aps anything more than 40 dollars in an require service fee, that the solar panels would generate enough energy to go back into the grid that I wouldn't receive a typical bill, but that is not the case at all, my bill is actually higher than what I have been paying. The sales team was either grossly undertrained or lied to make a sale, I pray the latter. But in either case I am stuck for the next 20 yrs with this system. In my opinion it is not worth it. Please triple check anything you are told, unfortunately I believed everything I was told.

Going solar is fairly new and I have to go through the full mode and all the formalities with the electric company and it would take a few months before we could turn it on. I'm just waiting to see the difference between what we were paying and the one that we will pay with Sunrun now. We chose Trinity and they work with Sunrun. Trinity facilitated the enrollment so a lot of the documents that I signed in the beginning with Trinity had the Sunrun brand on them. I spoke to a Sunrun person today and they gave us the rundown on how it works and who to call if we had any questions. I check on the apps on how much solar we're generating per day. We've had some pretty cloudy and miserable days recently, but the app works great to tell you at least how much you're generating. We haven't received our first bill from Sunrun yet, but so far, everything has been fine. There was a small delay in getting the panels because they're imported, but other than that, they had them completely put on in August. We knew it was about 90 days out from that that they would be turned on and they were turned on on Halloween. Their timeframes were on point. I've recommended Sunrun to people. They are very helpful and streamlined.

The people that did the scheduling and the people that did the installation were great. Everybody showed up on time and they were able to finish early.
I chose Sunrun because there's a story online that rated the top 100 and 10 solar companies in the United States. Sunrun was number two and was available through Costco, so I put it on my Costco credit card. I got a rebate on it. Also, the company had offices in San Luis Obispo, California where my family and I are all from. So, there were several things that moved them up from number two to number one. Overall, my Sunrun experience was all painless and a lot easier than I thought it would be. Everything was really smooth and they kept me informed of everything that was happening every bit of the way.

Sunrun is a company that deals with Costco which I went with because of the warranty. I was already looking into going solar because I was trying to get the deal done before APS changed the plan. They don’t accept net metering anymore so I was one of those who got the grandfathering plan for 20 years. Enrolling with Sunrun was pretty easy but I had an issue with the salesman who offered me a $350 Visa card and then he quit so I had to deal with the manager which solved the problem. He gave me a $500 Visa card so that was excellent.
A lot of the prices from other companies were all the same but the 5-year warranty on the system made me choose Sunrun. Also, I don’t want to be chasing small companies because I’m keeping the house for a long time. All of them offered the same warranty but if anything happened, I can chase Costco which is everywhere. If I deal with a small company, I might not be getting my warranty done in months.
It’s winter time and the system does not produce as much power as in the summertime but my last bill was $48 which was like, only $7 was for the electricity and the other stuff was the APS fees. I paid my solar system cash, which is the best way to go if you have the money so you can save the interest rate and still get the tax credit. Sunrun has done a good job, so far, but going solar after what the APS did is not worth it unless Sunrun has very good discounts.

I only spoke with one girl, Marissa, from the Sunrun customer service team. Everybody was really helpful and the crew that came out and did the install was very clean. The communication was great especially for a newbie person. Everything was pretty crystal clear from beginning to end.
The team originally came out to see me in March but I didn't get it installed until October. I did the re-roof for the entire house right before that which took me some time to save up for. I've been doing solar for about six years now and my last bill was like -$5. Financially, going solar is helping a lot right now as we have a bit more money in our pocket.

Extremely disappointed with the whole solar panel experience. My panels have been up since June 2017; it is now almost November 20017 and I have not spent any less on electricity–in fact, I've spent hundreds of dollars MORE. My electric bill stayed exactly the same as it’s always been, but now I have to pay an additional $111.50 a month to Sunrun on top of it. By the way–read the fine print. That monthly payment keeps getting higher year after year. It's in the contract. It gets worse. The company reported the total value of the panels to the credit bureaus under my name. So in addition to my bills INCREASING and my house becoming more difficult to sell, my credit has now taken a hit as well.
During the sales and signing process, no one shares with you that once you sign, the full value of the panels ($33,000) will immediately be reported to the credit bureaus as if it is a purchase you are making. The package is presented as utility equipment you agree to have installed on your property with the understanding that you will utilize and pay for the electricity produced. You are told you have the OPTION to buy later. In the interim, Sunrun reaps the benefits of owning the panels–you do not. They get the capital gain and they get the tax write off. That would be fine if they also carried the credit burden of the ownership, but it seems without disclosing this important detail, they pass this on to the homeowner.
The agreement is processed as a capital lease and the customer is forced, without knowledge, to carry the liability of a purchase s/he is NOT making. The end result is that you end up taking a substantial hit to your public income-to-debt ratio, which negatively impacts ALL important credit decisions made about you. I called Sunrun to ask them to amend and reverse the way they are reporting the lease (they are in fact reporting it incorrectly), only to have one of their representatives YELL at me on the phone. Simply abysmal handling of an issue that should have been up-front and center during sales and signing.
I would never recommend this company. Installation of solar panels has turned out to be the worst decision I’ve ever made, but in my defense, the sales representatives tell an alluring story and none of the issues come to light until it’s too late. Looks like the whole thing is an elaborate scam; I only hope my review will save someone still in the decision making process.

Their app and website has constant problems with loading data. I have not been able to see my data for the last 10 days. Finally they gave me the information on how to read the meter. Re: my energy consumption one department bounced me to the other.
They just gave me their email id asking me to follow up vs. adding them to the email thread, which would have not taken them any additional effort. I got an automated email response saying they would contact me in 2 days it I didn't receive any response for a week. When I followed up I was told that they were very busy and had not had a chance to review the email list (appreciated the honesty but was shocked with their operational practices). We received an email stating SunRun saved us $50.00 on our electric bill, to which we are billed a monthly lease of $139.00... We are never going to save with this kind of production. My solar went down on July 17th. They have yet to repair it. They don't care that I am losing money because all they care about is production. They have a guarantee of production. But it is worthless, because they set it so low you would always meet that guarantee. I don't know where to turn. I have contacted the BBB also. Of course I have a contract also I'm signed into so I am stuck.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Enid. We are so sorry to hear about your experience, we can certainly sympathize with your situation. Sunrun employee was rude, unprofessional, pushy, and rushing my pregnant wife to move her car quickly so they can start their installation because they claim they were on a time budget (maybe that’s why they damage my new roof because of the unprofessional, poorly, rushing the work they perform.) What happen was on the day of the installation, one of the installation crew member knock on our door and told my wife he’s here to install the solar and have her sign some paperwork. He was rude and very pushy. He told her that he is on a time budget and rush her to move her car. When she told him our contractor are working in the back as well, he seems shock and said no one should park on the driveway. The way he talk is very pushy and unprofessional (at least ask nicely). My wife is pregnant and she didn’t has the chance to change our son’s diaper yet.
Every morning she would change his diaper, brush his teeth, apply medication, and feed him before taking him to the baby sitter. Instead of doing that, she quickly sign the paper, bring our son out to the car, and leave because she felt uneasy. She didn’t even have time to pack extra clothing, diaper, medication, or food to bring over to the baby sitter. When I arrived home from work, I check out the new solar and saw that the roof has damages all over. About a dozen or more holes were drilled on the roof (outside of the installation area) and were not patched. I saw a lot of shingle were damage (rip, chip, deep scratches) outside of the installation area. I heard from my crew that they heard stuff being drop on the roof top. The work looks very sloppy, unprofessional, and careless.
I emailed Thomas (project coordinator) and told him what happen. He sent Eddie (supervisor or manager) out to meet with me. After about a week or more, Eddie show up. A few days before he shows up, that morning, it was sprinkling. I was on my way to work and it starting to sprinkling. I call my contractor and told him to patch/fix any major damage to prevent any further damage if it does rain. He has only a handful of shingle left so he replace the one with the most damage first. The rest, he patch with the roofing cement. Before Eddie show up, he called me and I told him that the shingle with the most damage was fixed with new shingle so he won’t be able to see everything. When he arrived at my house, he said he’ll take care of any repair cost. Just send the bill over.
I also said he need to make sure those damage area (outside of the panel installation area) are covered by the penetration warranty as well because there is no need for those damage to happen like that. He agree and he said he’ll draft a letter stating any damage. Sunrun damage will be cover by the penetration warranty as well. He’ll send to me for approval before finalizing it. Before he leave my house, he sound very promising. He said again, don’t worry, he’ll send out a quality control team to double check the work. (No one come out. On the day the electric company come out to install their meter, they said there is no power coming from the panel. I inform Mark (I’m ahead of the story here) and it take them a long time before someone come out to fix the problem.
The power is out as I’m typing this right now and they won’t have it fix for about 2 weeks.) A month went by and I called Thomas asking if he heard anything from Eddie. He said he didn’t hear anything so I told about my meeting with Eddie. Later Thomas said Eddie was on vacation and won’t be back for two weeks. He said he’ll take care of it. He sent out an email to me saying Eddie saw nothing wrong. The panel were installed correctly. I emailed him back telling him that was not true. I never complained about the panel. I complained about the damage shingle outside of the installation area. I even sent him the email on the first day. At this point I was mad so he transfer me to another supervisor/manager, Andrew. He also sound very promising. Over the phone (unrecorded cell phone, I wish it was a recorded line), he said he is the person who can make things happen.
He said things very similar to Eddie. After I re-explain everything to him again. We would call each other back and forth a few time over a period of time. He said he’ll draft a letter to cover the area of damage as well after I explain to him and bring it to me when we meet up. He wanted to come to my house on a weekday but I said I can’t be home. He said he’ll come out and come out again on the weekend (Sunday) to talk with me and my wife and compensate us. I waited the whole day on that Sunday and he never show up. Monday I called him asking why he didn’t show up? He gave me a bunch of excuses. I then asked where is the letter he drafted for me. He then start to give more excuses and said he has to go because his kids is crying and keep asking me over and over if what else can he do for me and deflect my two question.
So I hang up and email him asking the same questions to get some paper trail. His response was amazing. He said that he misunderstood what I was saying/claiming. How can he misunderstood after all the email and a memo from my contractor stating the problem? He said he misunderstood me so he refer me to another person and said from now on I should contact that person only to avoid confusion. They like to play this game where if they can’t deliver what they said, they will toss you around and around. Now I’m talking to Mark (Customer Care). In the first week or so, whenever I called, he would pick up his phone. After I ask him many hard question which he can’t answer and only deflect or answer in a general way which doesn’t help. He start to set his phone to voice mail. I called multiple times per day and if I leave a message early morning, sometime he won’t call back at till the end of the day.
During times I can’t reach him, I call the general Customer Care number and none of them know what happen to me. I have to explain to every one of them what happen over and over again. At this point, it seems to me that they do not communicate with each other. I sent out two message using the apps (Sunrun app) and for over a week I did not get any reply back. I called them up asking why I get no reply. Their respond was, “why didn’t you called?” I never tell them why because I don’t want to tell them the reason. Mark ask me to tell my contractor to send over a proposal. I have him sent one over. Mark’s response was, “did you have your friend help you?” because the price was high. It was an insult. He then have a third person come out to check out my roof again.
This time, Mark said he no longer trust my contractor’s words or my claim anymore because his 3rd guy came out saying my roof is old (5 years old?) and the installation of the solar is perfectly fine. I didn’t want to argue back but just say I never complained about the panel, I complained about the shingle damage around the installation area only. He said our word/claim is not creditable anymore. At this point, all Mark said was if you don’t have the picture of the damage, he can’t help me at all. But the major damage was replaced with new shingle due to the fear of rain back then. My contractor has a memo saying so and I even email him, Thomas, Eddie, and Andrew about it. But he still use that two thing (no original photo and roof is old - according to his 3rd guy) to tell me regardless of what facts I give him. I repeat myself again, what if I have my contractor sent you guys a statement that he was the witness?
Mark just keep saying our claim is no longer creditable and he need to see the before pictures. I just end the conversation there and I actually hire another roofer to do the estimate. His told me that Sunrun crew did a bad job on the installation themselves. I’m still waiting to see what the outcome is. DON’T GO WITH THIS COMPANY.

My friends have solar panel and they love it. When I first moved in my house, I always see my bill about 180-250. Sometimes even over 300. So my friends told me her bill went half down. And also solar is clean and reduce pollution. Therefore I get a consultation with Aaron and Lierh, who speak Mandarin. They are very nice and professional. I have learnt a lot from the consultation. I didn't know what was I paying every month and how to read the utility bill. And during the process, it was easy and fast. The crew wears the shoes cover so that my house didn't get dirty. Their service impresses me. I have nothing to complain and I will definitely recommend my friends to go solar with Sunrun. (Couples of my friends have already gone solar, and they are happy about that.)

I have had SunRun for almost 3 years and they are the worst by far. I am paying more now with solar, saving no money, and it is a constant battle with their customer service who never seem to be doing their job. Read the fine print on their PPAs and BEWARE. They take your Sun and Run with your money; hence the name. So far, I have had to pay almost $300 a month with their lease agreement and still owe Edison every year. I have seen one or two of those $8 & $9 Edison bills, but they do not make up for all of the money I am losing with SunRun. The sales rep was even a friend of mine until we signed up for solar. Now, he quit because of their fraudulent business practices and we are no longer friends despite his remorse.

RUN RUN RUN... What a SCAM this is. First you can deal with numerous companies before you get to the operating company name Sunrun! I dealt with HeliSun who originally contacted me. Now they are going by the name Alternative Electric. We have Arcadia who does the installs. First they covered the stink pipes on my roof and my home is a toxic environment from the fumes! The sales person said it was APS fault for allowing the design... That's FALSE!! They damaged so many concrete tiles on my roof and now I am experiencing leaks. They also FAILED to put locks on their boxes that clearly indicate you can receive ELECTRICAL SHOCKS, mind you they are at a child's level and guess what... It's APS responsibility to install locks also... That's FALSE.
They painted the electrical a hideous color that does not even come close to matching the color of my home! They wanted me to go match the paint, purchase it and they would paint it... Ha ha ha. Now let's get to the bill part. My bill which is normally 225 a month from APS has soared to over 700 my first month. The system is faulty and if you try to reach SunRUN... Good luck! ALL of you need to file a complaint with the AG's office and stop this company from scamming any one else. And if you did a referral... Good luck with the promised refund! I originally researched the company I THOUGHT I was dealing with and after receiving this bill from SunRUN who I had no idea of who they were, all this came to light!!!
Thank you for your contact, Dawn! It sounds like things have not started on the right foot, which is discouraging. We are currently addressing each one of your claims and working to reach a favorable a solution! A specialist has sent you a direct message.

When I signed up for Sunrun Solar on my home in the So California desert 4 years ago, the system was installed at no cost (Sunrun received all of the Government incentives, rebates, etc. which seemed fair at the time.) However, my monthly "rental" fee continues to go up annually and I am getting very little electrical power for the price I actually pay. This past month it has been hotter than 100 degrees far more days than not and I paid to Southern California Edison $0.16 per kWh for the first 499 kWh and $0.25 for each kWh above 499. At the same time I pay Sunrun 0.276 for EACH kWh. Thank goodness the Sunrun system can only produce 225 kWh per month (seems to me it was not properly sized for my desert home) or I could be buying more kWh from Sunrun at rates that significantly exceed those of SoCal Edison. CONSUMER BEWARE!

These are the months the solar should be working. We called about a month ago and they said they were so busy, they could come out for repairs on July 17th. It took 1 month to fix last time with over a %500.00 bill from APS + the solar bill.
I received an e-mail from Sunrun today that my Other house's solar panels are not producing also - same message tech would call me. I spoke to them on phone today and told them it was costing me WAY more to have solar than through APS where I could have been on budget plan proved that to Sunrun (but of course they said I was wrong). I AM GOING TO GO TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE WITH COMPLAINT & ALSO THE NEWS STATION. This lease has to stop. Arizona is the most dishonest place to purchase anything. The Sunrun representative appeared helpful and friendly. However he recommended a purchase plan that would allow me a rebate and helped determine how long it would take to get to the point I would be ahead based on the rebate amount. He helped me get the cost of PGE for a year and said it would take about 6 years. However, when I asked Sunrun for the paperwork to get a refund I found out I would not get a rebate with the method recommended and when I complained I was told by Sunrun I should have read the contract.
When I told them I went paragraph by paragraph with the rep and asked about the paragraph that said Sunrun would own the panels. He said this was because they would maintain the system for 20 years but I would get the rebate. I feel they lied to me and I complained to the police department but they said this was a civil matter. I received a bill but was told by the rep to not pay it since the system was not installed and that he would come by so that I could pay. Since I found out the rep had lied he said he was changing companies and never came for the payment.

I should never have gone with Sunrun in the first place. We had issues with them from the get-go. They would not answer my questions, call me back, and straight-up lied to me. They finally contacted me after filing a complaint with Costco. We canceled everything but smooth-talked me into using them anyway with no other compensation than to hold up their end of the deal. Now 1 yr later, we had a bad storm and lost 2 panels. I have been trying to get in touch with them for over a month. I even went far up the chain to ask for help scheduling the R&R. They also sent technicians out to my house unannounced TWICE now. The last guy was trying to replace the broken panels before the roof had even been removed. I told him no and sent him away.
As soon as I canceled my order I was flooded with calls and emails. The Sunrun representative told me that, "I made his technician feel dumb". I personally called the technician to apologize and feel as though the representative was using his own team member as a scapegoat. I cannot blame the poor employees because they are not trained at all and they are just doing what they are told to do. This company is completely backward and has more people dedicated to recovering lost customers than they do trying to serve them adequately in the first place. We found another company that only required one phone call and a few minutes of my time. They are so much cheaper and have higher quality products.

Before I had the panels installed I asked the salesman "what if I need a new roof before the 20 years"? I was told "No problem. You just call and we'll remove them and reinstall after the roof is done". I said "ok. As long as it doesn't cost me a penny to have the panels installed or removed or maintained go ahead with the install".
Now about 2 years later I get another salesman come and tell me I need a new roof. I call Sunrun to come and remove the panels, the guy says, "Ok no problem, It's $500.00 to remove the panels". I said, "NO WAY"! He said, "Yes and $100.00 per panel". I said, "NO WAY! I MUST HAVE ABOUT 12 PANELS!" He said, "Sorry but that's what it is. $500.00 and $100.00 per panel and you have 24 panels!" Again NO WAY!!! I was told nothing about money to remove the panels for a new roof! I said, "Ok then get the panels off the roof. I want to end the service". "Ok you have to buy the panels."
I can't get to talk to anybody else but the people that answer the phone. They did give me the number for our salesman, all I get there is, the party is not accepting phone calls at this time, please try later. That's the last 3 days same recording. I would not recommend Sunrun or any solar company at this time. But if you do want to go ahead and get solar make sure you do not need a roof first!

I am so happy I never went through with the 20-year headache with Sunrun. Our salesman was really slimy. Firstly he said the lease was free. Then he said if your electric meter was old, Sunrun would replace it up to $4000. He said if there is a power outage that your battery would your power on while all your neighbors are in the dark. He said if you ever had to reroof that Sunrun would take off and reinstall for $500. And now for the truth folks. The lease is not free. It is 100-160 dollars a month depending. Sunrun will not replace your meter, it is a lie. Your power during a power outage is not guaranteed. And lastly reinstallment if you reroof is $2500, not $500. Our salesman name was Matthew **.

Sunrun won't install mesh wire around the solar panels to prevent birds and pigeons from nesting under panels on top of the roof. They are aware of the issue as many customers including myself experience massive bird droppings in the yard which is unhealthy and requires daily cleaning. Pigeons love solar panels on tile roof. It would be cheap to install pest guard at the same time when solar panels are installed. Now with pigeons nesting under solar panels my roof is full of them and all over the roof. I need to install pest guard to protect the solar panels and install bird spikes at various sections of the roof at an approximate quote of $2000+.
Sunrun never mentioned of potential problem like this and all what they said that I may need to wash panels once a year to keep them clean. Furthermore, they will not pay for the pest guard that is needed to keep pigeons from going under their panels. Sunrun stated that they never demanded of me to have the solar panels installed on my roof as if they have given me choices of where to put them. Anyone interested in installing solar panels should request to have them install the pest guard also. I will not recommend Sunrun for your business.
Thank you for reaching out, Hal. We know how aggravating critter issues can be. As much as we would love to cover the cost of cleanup, and install critter guards for every customer requesting it, we recognize that it will increase the cost of doing business for everyone. I have had solar for two and a half years now. Up until March of this year, there were no major issues. In March, my system went dark. Then up sporadically, and down again. The technician who came out discovered that squirrels had built a nest under the panels, and chewed through the wires of two of the panels. He cleared the nest debris, disconnected the shorted out panels and told us that the panels would be replaced and that they needed to return to place a Critter Guard on the panels. To date, nothing has been done, the squirrels are back and the system goes up and then down sporadically as before.
BTW, this is May 2017. After speaking with a representative, I was told that someone from their Customer Service would call me within 5 days to schedule another tech visit. I won't hold my breath! I know the drill. They wouldn't let me speak to the Escalation Department either. I was also told that they no longer provide Critter Guards, but I could get them through their contractor for $1800! I don't own these panels, they are leased! So... Since that's how they want to play this game, I am going to alert every homeowner in my neighborhood who has solar from them about the issue. I am also going to notify my local politicians about the problem and warn others to avoid Sunrun. In my neighborhood as I'm sure in others, the squirrels are running amok, causing lots of damage to homes. I'm glad I am involved in the Community activities where I live and I'm going to make a lot of noise about this, as this is NOT acceptable.
