Terrible Experience at Ross – Sterling, VA. I had one of the worst customer service experiences ever at this Ross location. I returned a pair of shoes that I had not used, yet the assistant manager, Oprah, treated me with complete disrespect and accused me of wearing them. I politely asked her to walk with me to the shoe department to compare the condition of the returned shoes to others on the shelf — many of which were slightly dirty underneath just like the pair I returned. She flat-out refused. Not because she was too busy, but because she knew I was right and still wanted to be rude about it.

She yelled at me in front of other customers, saying the only option I had was store credit — even though I had the receipt and paid with my debit card. I have never used those shoes, and I was being honest. Instead of handling the situation with professionalism, she was confrontational and disrespectful. I’ve shopped at Ross for years, but this was enough to make me never return to this location again. If this is how they treat honest customers, I can’t imagine how they treat actual issues. Completely unacceptable.

Not ADA friendly. Will be checking on reporting to ADA. Attempted to purchase some ceramic flower pots. Asked if someone could help accommodate me to my car, since you cannot take the carts out. Was provided no assistance whatsoever. Never thought I'd become irate with Ross, but here I am. Guess you can't get the deals, and great service too. This happened at the Hemet, CA Store.

I am a longtime customer at Ross. The Ross store on 4100 E Mexico Avenue Denver, CO. The store has a nonworking elevator to the second floor. It has been over 3 months since the elevator has worked. People have trouble taking the stairs. It is very dangerous for elderly people to take the stairs. The poor Employees need to bring merchandise onto the second floor. This is very insensitive and unfair to people's needs. The air conditioning is also not working. It is very hot on the second floor. People can faint. It is unfair for customers that want to look for merchandise on the second floor.

Return policy is not worth the visit. They asked for my Driver's License to process my return with receipt - just to give me store credit in the end. I don't shop here often which is why I had not been back for 32 days. (Outside their return window.) Their clothing styles and colors are outdated. You can find trendier colors and pieces at TJ Maxx and Marshalls for the same price.

Just returning from my nearby Ross on 2821 W. Peoria, Phoenix 85029, which is 2 minutes away from home. Today while I was completing and paying for my purchases, the security guard was just right there in front of the cashier, and he saw me paying with my credit card. After I walked literally two steps towards him, and provided him my shopping receipt, he asked me to open all the bags...was that really necessary? And he had that smirk smile on his face....It was 100% racial profile...Ross you just lost your weekly recurrent customer. While there is a fragile economy, Ross allows this microaggressions to happen to customers inside the stores.

We shopped around and once to check out there was a lady on day 03/14/2025 around 9:30 checking us out which seems to be the store manager. My anger with this is I have a 1 year old and I try my best to prevent being on top of people or letting other be on top of me because of how this is would is nowadays but to be checking out without even paying yet and this cashier /manager is already telling other to come to the register, we told her, "Ma'am we haven’t paid yet and you bring up other customer." My thing is safety for space and frauds, one a customer can get your pin or any information and she was super rude.

Once we told her that stating that is Ross's policy and if it bothered us so much to go somewhere else which was crazy to me cause we were more than polite. And than she proceeded to to talk to the other customers that were worker in that store, bad about us in Spanish, she probably thought I didn’t speak Spanish cause of my color and proceed out because I have my child with me but you can’t not have people working there like that.

I was at the Delray Beach Ross around 5:15 today March 4th and there was a long line of customers waiting to cash out. The one cashier working was moving as fast as she could. The other cashier did not open up even though she saw the line up increasing. Instead she was fussing with whatever she could find - hangers, clothes and garbage all the while people in line stared at her. Her manager came by and had to tell her to open up and serve the customers. It was literally almost 1/2 hour after she was told by the store manager that she finally opened up. I believe this girl's name is Janine. I spoke to the store manager before I left to complain about the situation and the manager refused to give me the girl's name so I could write a review. The manager expressed to me that she had no problem that this girl took almost 1/2 after she told her to open up. I don't know who is more rude and neglectful to customers - the cashier or the manager.

The store could benefit from more staff, better organization, and improved customer service. While the prices are great, the overall experience fell short.

I just had a bad experience at your Pearl City, Hawaii location. I entered the store after leaving the nearby movie theater around 10:30 pm to look around like I do your stores several times a month. The store closes at 11 pm, but I don't usually take that long with visits like this. I did find a couple of items I needed since I just moved.

The manager made an announcement about closing just before 11 pm and the security guard walked by to remind me. I started heading toward the front of the store within a minute. Before I even reached the line cache area the manager started yelling, "Our registers are down! It is 11:01 pm! Our registers are closed!" I noted that they didn't give me and 1 other customer who arrived after I did enough time to even reach the registers. She dismissively and rudely noted that she made an announcement and that they close down at 11 pm which is categorically not true! I mentioned that what she said was incorrect and she loudly and aggressively yelled at me that the registers have been closed down and repeated further false information about processes.

I've been shopping at Ross for several years and I know general retail etiquette and it is customary to give customers 10-30 minutes to finish looking around and reach the checkout area. They did this after rushing us to walk to the checkout area then still shutdown everything 1 minute after. HOW RUDE! This was an offensive and annoying experience that caused at least 2 customers, including this one, to abandon everything at the front end because of this nonsense.

On January 26, 2025 I went to the store for footwear suitable for walking on ice/snow; not snow boots. I very excitedly saw a style that I liked, theoretically in my size, where it belonged. After trying to get one piece on more than numerous times, thinking the problem was tied to arthritic fingers and toes. I finally was wise enough to look at the tag inside the shoe/s. It reflected size 8. I took them to the checkout counter explaining that they were mislabeled, showing the tag and the label. The associate commented that she did not know, she does not do the tagging. I was in proximity of the store the next day to see if a change was made, to find the pair in the size 8s, still tagged size 10 in the size 8s. The point of this is not that my size was not in the store, rather, not correcting the tag before being put back on the sales floor. How would someone return when the product size tag does not match the sales size tag????

I am writing in regard to a terrible store experience my daughter and I had on December 21, 2024 at the Bellingham Ross store on 3920 Meridian St. I reached out to Ross on Dec 22 and had not heard back yet and just did again today. We went to return a Michael Kors women's belt purse that I purchased in September 2024. I provided the store associate ** with both the item and the receipt however, when she scanned the receipt barcode she was getting an error on the computer. She tried a couple more times but kept getting the same error so she asked if we wanted to do a return without a receipt and asked for my ID and I accepted and gave her my ID.

However, when ** rang the item up the price value was $6.00 and I had purchased the item for $24.99. She seemed helpless and uninterested in her ability to help us further so I asked if she could get a manager for help. The manager ** came and she did the same thing (scanned the receipt a few times) and then said all they can do is give $6.00. My daughter and I were so confused as we had both the item and the receipt which reflected the item's correct barcode on it - which means we should get back our original value, regardless of whether the computer is having a hard time reading the receipt. It is not our problem that there were technical issues and we were entitled to our money back.

My daughter who also works in retail at a different store explained to ** that when a customer has a receipt and the correct item is on there then the customer is owed their money back - regardless of whether the computer is being weird. ** kept asking if the tag was the correct tag for the item. My daughter explained that was the tag that was on the item when we bought it, as it also showed on the receipt. It was really confusing as to why she kept asking that. My daughter expressed her frustration with the matter in a respectful and appropriate way but ** was unable to hear any feedback and instead was condescending to my daughter. When my daughter said she worked in retail also, ** said "Oh so you work at a Ross" in a snarky way. My daughter explained that she worked in retail in Canada and ** was quiet and barely gave us any eye contact. She made it seem like we were being difficult.

I explained to ** that if we were returning the item without the receipt then absolutely it makes sense that she refunds it for the $6.00 amount as that is the current value of the item. However, we kept trying to inform her that we HAVE A RECEIPT so the current value of the item is irrelevant in this matter. In the end - they punched in the receipt number and tried a few more things and were able to find the receipt however it took a very long time and ** was extremely unhelpful and had a lot of attitude towards us.

Overall, our experience with both associates was poor. ** was polite and nice but just seemed helpless but our primary issue was with ** - as she was not only unhelpful but extremely rude and unprofessional in her manner and communication with us. She did not care to problem solve the matter further only until we pushed back and it is only then when she was able to find the receipt number in the computer system. She did not once apologize for the issue and instead made it seem like we were being unreasonable. As a customer, we should not have to explain to the store associate and manager how to do their job and then on top of that get attitude back from them. It was a real terrible experience.

All large stores and large restaurants are required to provide ADA accommodations for their disabled customers. And 50% of the population has to take a Blood Pressure medicine, which acts as a diuretic/water pill. So, this 50% of the population has to use the bathroom every few hours. Disappointing Experience at Ross Almaden in San Jose, CA on 11/26/24. I visited Ross Almaden with my parents to shop for Christmas gifts--a trip that should have been enjoyable. However, after this experience, I feel compelled to share my story due to the unprofessional behavior of a staff member. While browsing, I tried on a jacket in the clothing section to show my mom. To my surprise, a staff member organizing the area abruptly yelled, "Go get a room!" I was shocked by her tone and dismissive attitude, as I was simply showing my mom how the jacket looked. When I explained this, she replied, "That's what fitting rooms are for." Taken aback, I asked for her name, but she swung her badge around to prevent me from reading it.

I reported the incident to the manager to clarify whether the mirrors in the clothing section are for people to conveniently try on jackets. She confirmed they were and said that trying on jackets in the clothing section was perfectly fine. I explained what had happened, and while she apologized and assured me she would speak with the staff member, she continued organizing jewelry and avoided eye contact throughout our conversation. This made the apology feel dismissive.

I decided to move on and stay with my mom, who was still shopping in the clothing section near the staff member. I didn't want to leave her alone. Later, the same staff member approached me again--this time without her ID badge (why had she removed it?)--and began complaining about cleaning up after customers. Confused, I asked if I had caused a mess, to which she responded, "Do you see anyone trying on clothes out in the open here?" I pointed out that people often do, though no one else was around at that moment.

Her comment felt unnecessary and targeted. When I reiterated that I was simply trying on a jacket--and noted that if I had taken it off and left it somewhere inappropriate, then her approach would have been understandable--she defensively said, "I'm not paid to fight." Before walking away, she also claimed the manager I had spoken to wasn't actually a manager, which added to my frustration. I approached the manager again, apologized for bothering her, and emphasized that the staff member had said she wasn't the manager and had initiated yet another unnecessary conflict. The manager scoffed slightly but immediately acknowledged the issue and involved her supervisor.

When I asked the supervisor if she was the manager, she confirmed that she was the "manager of managers," the highest authority in the store apparently, and also confirmed that the first manager I spoke with was legitimate. On the issue at hand, the supervisor defended the staff member's intentions, saying she may have been trying to keep the area clean. I explained that as a former retail worker, I understand the challenges of the job, but professionalism and courtesy are essential, especially when addressing customers who haven't caused any disruption. The supervisor agreed that the staff member's approach was inappropriate but then made an unnecessary remark: "This isn't your first conflict here, right?" I was caught off guard and responded, "I've only had two conflicts--the back-to-back incidents that just happened during this visit." The suggestion felt baseless and accusatory.

BUT SHE DIDN'T STOP THERE. She continued, "Are you sure? You're sure you didn't cause conflicts before?" Surprised, I firmly said no and reiterated that her assumption was untrue. I explained that I've never had a conflict like this in a store before. She then had the audacity to say, "You just look really familiar." I shook my head - by the way, I was in a face mask - and replied, "Well, it wasn't me. And I didn't even cause these two current conflicts to begin with."

Ultimately, the supervisor apologized and offered a 20% discount as compensation, which I accepted. While I appreciated the gesture, it didn't erase the negative experience. The cashier, upon hearing what I went through, processed the discount and surprisingly apologized repeatedly, even though she had no involvement in the incidents. Her professionalism, compassion, and positive attitude stood in stark contrast to the other employees involved. Honestly, this cashier should be promoted and in the appropriate position to train the aforementioned employees.

Note, I didn't share this with any of the Ross employees, but as a professional development consultant specializing in corporate ethics, culture, and leadership, and a business owner--focused on mental and physical quality of life--I find it disheartening to encounter such treatment, especially unprovoked. I understand retail work can be challenging, but staff choose this role and should approach it with professionalism, respect, and courtesy for customers, as we are essential to keeping these businesses thriving. **Judging someone based on their appearance or making assumptions about their actions is unacceptable!
