The purchase process went OK and I was very happy with my ring, resizing was a bit of a pain because I could not bring it to a physical place. Now they have locations, but they have no in-house jewelers. Now I’m many years into owning my jewelry and a tiny diamond fell out. They are unable to find me on the automated chat, but because the new system isn’t compatible despite the fact updating my information in person since there is a store near me-the store experience was fine. I have dropped off my ring three weeks ago and I still do not even know if it’s under warranty. I have received zero confirmation emails which they do not do any longer and the people in the chat are not very helpful. They know absolutely nothing. The people in the store know absolutely nothing about repairs except they will send it for you. So everything is great when you have your ring, but not if you have an issue.
You get no tracking, You get no great updates. I received zero confirmation emails that my product has been received and only the chat people have confirmed it to tell me that it’s been three weeks, but it’s 4 to 6 before I even know if there is a cost involved. I recommend a store that has an on-site repair service because eventually, this can happen.
Hi Mallie, thank you for sharing your feedback and we apologize for any frustration you have experienced. Our resize and repair services typically take 3-4 weeks. We are happy to look into this further for you and will be reaching out to you privately.

SCAM BEWARE! I am extremely disappointed and feel mislead with the upgrade Program & Poor Customer Service. We purchased multiple pieces of jewelry from Blue nile including my engagement ring and wedding bands. Naturally, I expected the same level of service and integrity when I inquired about upgrading my original ring I purchased from them based on their policy that they pride themselves on is a complete scam! First the assistant manager promised me a ring but days later found out it was "unavailable" after wasting time and money. My recent experience has been incredibly disappointing and frustrating from beginning to end.
Blue Nile promotes a "Diamond Upgrade Program", but what they don't make clear is that the criteria are so narrow and arbitrary that it's essentially a fake promise. Despite buying everything from them — and choosing a certified diamond they claimed would be eligible — I was told I couldn’t upgrade. No clear explanation, just a series of vague, unhelpful responses that made it feel like a complete bait-and-switch. We asked for their inspection report (see photo email correspondence).
To make matters worse, customer service was anything but helpful. I was bounced around between staff who either gave me inconsistent information or clearly didn’t care. There was no effort to retain me as a customer, and certainly no accountability for the misleading information they provide on their marketing. If you’re considering Blue Nile for an engagement ring or long-term investment in jewelry, I’d strongly advise looking elsewhere. If you plan to upgrade or need any real customer support down the line, you’ll be left disappointed and without options. Blue Nile has lost a customer because of a failure in honesty and customer care. Based on other reviews this seems to be common amongst Blue Nile and I am considering taking legal action.
Hi Izabella, Thank you for reaching out and we are sorry to hear this has been your experience. Blue Nile offers a diamond upgrade program for loose IGI and GIA graded diamonds (fancy colored diamonds are excluded) The upgrade program requires that the diamond is in original condition and that the original grading report is present. We will be reaching out to you privately to offer further assistance with your order.

I ordered an engagement ring with a selected loose diamond and was instructed to wait for Amber U to confirm due to potential tariff issues. I was assured my order was secure. After waiting a week, I discovered my order was canceled, and the diamond was sold to another customer. When I requested a similar diamond, I was offered options at double the price. The representative I communicated with via email was unhelpful and lacked empathy. Frustrated, I purchased a ring elsewhere, completing the transaction in under an hour.
We appreciate you choosing Blue Nile and apologize for your experience. Thank you for sharing your feedback and if we can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Updated on 05/22/2025: Blue Nile lost the diamond I sent in to get reset and paired with a diamond I purchased to match for earrings. While they did put my purchase back onto my credit card, they have promised me a refund for the diamond they lost. They were provided with the banking information to send a wire transfer but I have yet to receive it. Three times now they said I should expect the refund in my bank account but nothing appeared.
Two weeks ago they finally realized that they needed a SWIFT code because it was international. So they were telling me all along the refund would be in my account but they were missing this code??? So how can a customer trust anything they say? They said I should expect the refund early this week and it is now Thursday. They have the SWIFT code so what is their excuse now? I feel like they are giving me the runaround and are completely incompetent and dishonest. They have my address on file and know that I do not live in the US. I called this morning and they said it would be a high priority. I do not believe anything they say.
Original review: I recently sent in a diamond earring to Blue Nile to have it reset and matched with a diamond of similar quality to make into a pair of earrings. I had purchased a set several years ago from them but had lost one of the two. I paid for my purchase in January this year and received my shipment 2 weeks ago. UPS charged $501.90 for Customs. I opened the box and there was only one earring!! I called Customer Service right away and was told someone would call me. A Customer Relations Specialist has called me but they want me to send back the diamond earring unwilling to advise me of what the implications will be when they send the completed order back to me. I told the representative that I need a layout of my options first. I.e., Can I get a refund and my diamond stone back; if a replacement set was sent back to me what will the Customs charge be?
The rep said “Nothing will move forward until you send the diamond earring back”. Does that seem fair? She said she hadn’t heard anything back from their international team about customs. How can I make a decision without knowing my options and their implications? I requested an email laying out all my options and I received nothing yet. I had originally asked to speak to a supervisor and was told it could take 72 hours to hear back from one but no one ever called me. She says she will call next Tuesday if there are any updates. They have the payment in full and I paid another $500 for customs. It’s been 2 weeks and no information provided so a decision can be made. Through no fault of my own I have been treated unfairly and no mention of any compensation for their mistake. I do not know if they sent me my diamond back in the new setting or not.
I really need to speak to someone at a higher level because this rep is not being helpful at all. I called one of their competitors and they said it should have only taken a few days to get things resolved. I am only allowed to speak to this one rep.. If I call the main number they say they will pass the message on to the rep. I am getting nowhere. I am so sorry I chose this company… How could their quality assurance allow an incomplete order to be sent out to an international customer causing so much grief. I would not recommend this company to anyone because they do not provide good customer support if there is a problem. They clearly do not have very good Quality Assurance and I unfortunately trusted them when I should not have.
Thank you for sharing additional details regarding your recent purchase. We sincerely apologize for the experience you have had and our team is working with you towards a positive resolution. We look forward to assisting you further with your earrings.

Jewelry is fine. The service is subpar in every way imaginable. The communication about the repair process is awful. Jewelry was sent back in September and some shipped back by mistake. We are still getting notifications about prices to fix jewelry sent back despite trying to speak with them via telephone, email and chat services. The chat representatives are very rude and often given wrong information. We would be told something via phone and then get phone calls/email to the contrary. We were long time customers who will not purchase again.
Thank you for sharing feedback about your service order and we sincerely apologize for your experience. Our team has reached out to you to offer further assistance.

This review is to give people an honest warning NOT to ever purchase from here. It is a borderline scam. Aisha the “Diamond Expert” really doesn’t deserve to be employed in general. A level of incompetence that can’t be comprehended. This situation was handled with the utmost disrespect and it is no wonder people question buying diamonds from here. If there were ever a doubt in your mind, listen to it. These people are in it to scam you and it seems like nobody in the organization is competent enough to fix it. Do yourself a favor and go to your local jeweler. Every. Single. Time.

Visited a Blue Nile store in Newport Beach CA and was extremely disappointed as they had no selection of men’s wedding bands to view. MDe a virtual appt and again, they didn’t have any stock to show us. At the recommendation of the virtual appt agent, we ordered two styles in two sizes as we were told we could return the unwanted rings. Called a week later and was told the order was canceled even though my credit card approved the purchase. Credit card then showed the order was canceled by the merchant. Called BN and asked what happened and they stated the order was cancelled by them and if I wanted to place another order they would only accept a wire transfer??!! Worst company to deal with and very poor customer service. Thanks for ruining our wedding ring purchase. Stay away.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and we sincerely apologize for your experience Craig. Our team would be happy to work with you if you are still in need of wedding bands, please contact our customer service team if we can be of further assistance.

I sadly cannot recommend Blue Nile based on my recent experience. My fiancé purchased a 3-carat diamond ring from them, which initially seemed stunning. However, the disappointment began almost immediately:
- The ring's circle was not round but oblong, which affected the fit and overall aesthetics.
- I lost a small diamond from the side, likely due to the band's poor construction.
When I returned the ring for repair, Blue Nile's response was far from satisfactory. They've held on to my ring, demanding payment for repairs which I believe should be covered under warranty due to it being a clear case of workmanship issues. They've suggested that the straight line split in the band could somehow be my fault, which is both absurd and upsetting.
This entire ordeal has not only been frustrating but has also tainted what should have been a cherished sentimental item. Blue Nile's lack of customer service and unwillingness to acknowledge their product's flaws is deeply disappointing. I would caution others to think twice before choosing Blue Nile for something as significant as engagement jewelry.
Thank you Jessica, for sharing feedback about your ring. We apologize this has been your experience and a member of our customer service team will be contacting you soon. We look forward to assisting you further with any questions or concerns you have about your ring's repairs.

I purchased a diamond necklace back on December 28th and was told that the item was scheduled to ship on 1/17. On the 17th the web site showed that it was set to ship, however it never did. Subsequently, every day since it, has shown that it would ship that day only to be pushed to the next day. Scheduled to ship on the 18th, then the 19, then the 20th and so on. When I spoke with someone on the phone they told me that they would do some research and call me back. This never happened. Then I spoke with someone via live chat and they were very nonchalant and not helpful at all. When I asked what was taking so long and why no one could give me a definitive answer, the person on the chat told me that the jewelers were "very busy". When I told them that I needed to either have the item shipped the next day or I needed a refund, they stated "that's up to you, but I don't have any more information for you."
Since I don't make idle threats, I requested a refund and at least that was promptly processed the next day. Although, as of this post, it's not back in my account. This interaction made it very clear to me that either Blue Nile or its representative in the form of the chat agent, do not value my business. It is very frustrating to have waited a month just to have this outcome, but I refuse to beg anyone to take my money. Had the person on the chat been more helpful and less nonchalant I may have been willing to wait a couple of more weeks, but the attitude is what caused me to cancel the purchase. Although reading some of these posts makes it clear that I did the right thing by cancelling!
Hi Xavier, we appreciate you reaching out about your recent order and sincerely apologize for the delay in production. We understand this was a large purchase for you and it was never our intention to cause disappointment. The jewelry team was needing more time to complete your diamond necklace however, we understand your decision to cancel the order due to the timeframe. We are forwarding your feedback and if you are still looking for a necklace we would love the chance to assist you again.

When my husband initially purchased my wedding ring from Blue Nile, I was thrilled with the quality and design. Over the years, he also gifted me a new engagement ring and an eternity ring from the same jeweler to commemorate our life together. Unfortunately, issues began to arise as each ring required repairs at different times due to side diamonds falling out. One of the rings even had to be sent in twice. Most recently, my engagement ring’s 14-carat gold band split at the back, as though it was improperly closed after being resized or repaired. This has been a deeply disappointing experience, as the quality of all three rings has proven to be problematic. I’m currently waiting for my diamond wedding band to return from yet another repair, which only adds to my frustration.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and this is not the experience we wished you to have with your rings. We care that your jewelry is serviced to the highest standard and we look forward to receiving your ring for inspection and repair. If you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to our customer service team.

Blue Nile did eventually apply a discount code to my purchase (as it happened, the Valentine's discount was larger than the one originally applied.) So you can get good prices from them but you have to complain? In any case, they responded to my feedback here so I have no complaints.

I bought platinum wedding bands from them. They're perfectly fine, they arrived on time, wedding was lovely and I expect to wear this for the rest of my life. But they're totally plain wedding bands, so that just means they aren't defective. A glitch in their system duplicated my cart, and I kept getting e-mails asking if I wanted to complete my (duplicated) purchase. After a day or two, I was offered 15% off my purchase (which I had already made at full price.) So now I know they ripped me off because the real price was 15% lower. This made the entire experience unpleasant (and they haven't responded to my question on whether I can get the discount retroactively.) Everyone tries to rip you off when you get married but I'd avoid this company unless you enjoy feeling like a sucker.
Thank you Samuel! We have forwarded your feedback and someone from our team will reach out to you soon. Generally, we are able to honor applicable coupons within an order's 30 day return window, we just cannot stack multiple discounts together. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and if there is anything further we can do please feel free to message here or correspond with our customer service team.

I am very disappointed in the quality of the tennis bracelet that I purchased in August 2024. After only these couple of months, it is now January, I experienced a link on the bracelet breaking after only occasional use. I hope that they are able to rectify the situation by fixing it for free and making sure that the stones are set properly and that the links are secure enough to ensure that I don’t lose my bracelet or any of the diamonds in the future. Basically it is up to their discretion to determine whether it is a manufacture defect which clearly it is. I hope they make this right and that they honor their quality of standard that they are trying to uphold. As of right now, I cannot recommend this brand to anyone, but I hope that they are able to rectify the situation. A $4000 bracelet should not break after only three months of occasional use.
Thank you for working with us on your bracelet service. We see that the repairs were completed as a complimentary service under our lifetime warranty. We hope that you enjoy your bracelet for years to come and if you have any further questions or concerns our customer service team would be happy to assist you.

I purchased a platinum wedding band from Skyline choosing it specifically because it was 8mm thick and my husband wanted a chunkier style. Unfortunately, within just 3-4 days of wearing it, the ring was visibly badly scratched and looked worn out, which was incredibly disappointing for such an expensive piece. For context, my husband has silver rings from 20 years ago that still look amazing than this platinum band did after only a few days. I reached out to Customer Service to initiate a return, but due to an unexpected international emergency, I couldn’t ship it back within the 30-day return window. Had I been able to, I would have definitely returned the ring.
This experience has left me wishing I had gone with a ring from Cartier or Tiffany instead, as this band does not reflect the quality or durability one expects from a wedding ring. I cannot recommend this brand for wedding rings to anyone looking for something that will last — It left my husband wondering if I got him a platinum “plated” fake ring!!! :(
Hi Rabia, thank you for reaching out about your husband's new ring. Platinum will show dents, dings and scratches from the first day of wear. This is due to the nature of the metal and not a defect. The ring is currently in for refurbishing services where our team will polish the platinum back to a high shine. With continued wear overtime, platinum's finish turns into the beloved 'patina' glow special to this metal.

It was bitter sweet experience from Blue nile. I got engaged literally last week. I was BLOWN AWAY!! It was so beautiful beautiful beautiful!!! I loved how my ring looks. It was delicate and excellent. However, my beautiful ring didn't hold up diamond well enough. Prongs look pretty different than the picture. (I thought it was supposed to be claw prongs.) Seems like there was not enough metal that goes up over the stone. It only notched the prongs a small amount. Today, I found that my diamond was moving around and I could hear the rattling sound. It was really sad because I LOVE MY RING!!!! Also it's holidays so I wanted to show off my ring to my family and friends. My Fiance immediately called one of agents and he took care of it pretty well. I sent it back to them. I'm still very upset that I won't be able to have my ring for Christmas but I can't wait to have my ring back. Please please fix my ring well!!!
Congratulations Lynn! We are thrilled to hear you love your new engagement ring and apologize it is in need of servicing so soon. I purchased a diamond #** from Blue Nile on December 2nd, during their Black Friday sale. The order confirmation stated the item would ship on December 4th. However, when I followed up with customer service about the order status, I was informed that it could not be shipped because the listed price was incorrect. I was never notified of any pricing issue after my purchase, and the confirmation email led me to believe the transaction was valid. As it was Black Friday, I assumed the price reflected a legitimate deal. Instead, I was told the order could not proceed, and the company claimed they were "searching for the correct price."
Even a day later, I received no resolution—they were still "finding the price," with the only alternative being to cancel my order. I find this unacceptable. If the listing price was truly an error, the company should have already determined the correct price rather than taking several days to figure it out. Moreover, claiming it wasn’t a Black Friday deal after the expected shipping date feels misleading and unfair.

My entire family, both immediate and extended, has been loyal customers of Blue Nile for over ten years, and this review reflects my most recent experience. I purchased an engagement ring and a wedding band from Blue Nile in anticipation of an upcoming engagement and wedding. Based on this, the management at the Boca Raton store, along with members from their online sales team, guaranteed me a delivery date that would enable a seamless engagement. I was scheduled to travel on a red-eye flight on Friday morning, and the ring was supposed to arrive on Wednesday. This provided buffer in case something occurred. I also maintained communication with the Blue Nile sales team to stay updated on the shipment and delivery dates.
I should also note that the salesperson who sold me the rings left for another company, and the manager never reached out to check on the status of my order. Despite several calls, I received no responses. Eventually, the online team informed me that the ring was ahead of schedule. However, a few days later, they began changing their story and refused to provide any updates.
Finally, Wednesday came and went, and I remained hopeful that Blue Nile would find a way to resolve the situation. They could have shipped the ring to my location or offered an alternative solution. Unfortunately, they did nothing, and the ring arrived on Monday. This was a disappointing experience, markedly different from anything we had encountered with Blue Nile in the past. The rings are beautiful and of the usual quality one would expect from Blue Nile. However, they transformed what was meant to be the most important day of our lives into a chaotic situation due to their failure to follow through on commitments and their disingenuous, disjointed communication. As a family of long-time customers of Blue Nile, this experience was a significant disappointment and signals to us that Blue Nile's customer-first philosophy from years past is no longer in place—a real shame.

I purchased a ring from Blue Nile over a month ago (Order #**). Got a discount of $403 and my order confirmation. 3 days later, got a call from them that they can’t process the payment because it’s $403 short of the total. I had to share with them my original order confirmation email. After that, they told me they’ll honor the discount even though there was a glitch in their website.
Well, they still charged me $173 more than the price in the order confirmation. After that, the original customer service stopped responding, I had to do 3 additional calls, got promised again it’ll be resolved, and finally, on the last call they told me sometimes their website glitches and they have to charge the higher price, scamming me out of $230 and saying there’s nothing they can do about it. I’m currently disputing it with my bank. Never do business with them if you’re not willing to pay whatever price they come up with after you already purchase the product. Also, the order was supposed to ship on 10/8. It shipped 10/16.

I choose quality over quantity when it comes to a diamond. I sized down to a smaller diamond .61ct with D color and IF clarity for maximum sparkle! The 6 prong solitaire is so pretty, the 6 prongs make the round diamond balanced, the basket is just right around the diamond as it leaves a space, instead of touching. This makes it easier to clean too. The Petite Setting is finished beautifully, rounded edges making this the most comfortable setting. This ring is a size 8. Customer service at Blue Nile is the best, hands down! It took me a few tries to find exactly what I wanted and there was never an issue with the exchanges. My husband purchased my engagement ring from Blue Nile 11 years ago. Right after he proposed and gave me the ring, he mentioned that the diamond looked very cloudy to him. I told him it was fine. I mean, he just proposed, so what was I going to say? Well, we recently visited a Blue Nile store now that they exist and I couldn't believe how cloudy my diamond was in comparison to those in the case at the store. I'm very disappointed that this company would sell such a low-grade stone at such a high price point. And, of course, you can't compare when ordering online, which was the only option at the time. I'm giving them one star because the customer service has always been great. However, I feel like we were robbed. I'm also embarrassed that I've recommended this company to so many other people. It will not happen again.

I contacted customer service again and they said they couldn’t do anything to help and that I might get it a day before the wedding. I asked customer service to escalate to someone since I could just purchase the ring on the site again and receive it within a couple days. They said they could not do anything so I asked for a refund. I would never purchase anything from here again. You could have saved a customer just by offering to refund and reorder instead of saying there was nothing that could be done. Such a horrible experience.

I called and emailed multiple times before and on the day of shipment to remind them again. They waited until after 7 pm to "overnight" the diamond and I have cleared my whole schedule today to be home to sign for the diamond. I have a full schedule tomorrow and If I cancel meetings tomorrow, it's going to cost me about $7,000 in business revenue. I tried to reschedule the meeting and was told “We prefer to do business with you but we cannot afford to push the project back so if we can’t proceed as planned, we’ll have to go with our backup vendor.” This is going to cost me $7,000 because Blue Nile does not honor their promises! The delivery date and time was 12 PM on 9/24/24 and I get a message from UPS today explaining that it will now be delivered on 9/25.
I have worried about this all weekend and did everything I could to set the proper expectation. Now, my jeweler won’t get the diamond in time to place it in the setting before my vacation and I may not be able to propose on our vacation as planned. Of course, Blue Nile used the “We cannot control the carrier/ shipping” excuse but I categorically dismiss it because they waited until after 7 pm at night to ship it! Why couldn’t they ship at a reasonable time on 9/23 and give UPS at least a chance to get it here on time?! Why? Because they do not care about customers or making good on their promises, only making empty promises to make a sale! What a mess! DO NOT TRUST BLUE NILE or anything they tell you!
Hi Fred, thank you for choosing Blue Nile for your new diamond. Your order shipped on time, immediately once your diamond arrived to our headquarter office and passed its gemologist inspections. The package was shipped UPS overnight however, severe weather made it unsafe for the UPS team to coordinate delivery the next day as planned. Unfortunately this was outside of our and UPS's control and we sincerely apologize for any disappointment from the delay.
