I have a credit monitoring product with this company for about 1 year. My credit score with them is 670 every time I check my credit score every single week. Then, I cancelled my credit monitoring product after 1 month I got a new product offer from my bank account. I was so mad because Equifax messed up my personal information, my name and other info and my credit score came down to 607. I am planning to buy a house this year but my credit score from this Equifax is so low sudden change because I just canceled my membership from them. It’s not fair for the consumer if they continue this kind of behavior.

I was a loyal customer member for the past 3 years and as long I didn't need any of their assistance, it was all good. Last year, before my membership was coming up for renewal, I called to update my credit card information from Visa to Amex, but unfortunately was charged on the Visa card anyways. Back then, it wasn't a big deal for me so I just left it like this. This year, however, when my membership was coming up for renewal, I called again to make sure they have my Amex card on file and I was assured this is the card I'll be charged. However, my Visa card was charged instead. This time, it was a different situation for me, as I had some balance transferred to the Visa at 0% APR and charging something to this card was screwing up my special rate.
I called Equifax again and this time I requested to have the money refunded on my Visa and have it charged on the Amex card. Once again, I was assured this process will take up to a week. My Amex Card was charged within 2 business days like promised; however, now. one month later, I'm still waiting for my refund on the Visa Card. The past month, I was calling weekly and I sent 3 emails to their customer care department and still nothing.
Today, I called again and once again was advised that I will get my refund, but at this point it was enough for me. I went and cancelled my membership completely and am waiting now for two refunds. Let's see how long it will take them. I did some research on the Equifax and it seems I'm not the only one that has problems with their customer service. I would not recommend anybody using their service!

This is the 2nd year in a row. I applied for my free credit report with Equifax, and it came up and it said, "If you want to view this online for 30 days, click here." And I did, and it took me to a page where I needed a log-in to get in. I tried to go back to the page, for I did not have one obviously; and it wouldn't let me. 2 years in a row, I have been denied a report.

I keep asking Equifax to remove inquiries that where not authorized by me from my credit report. Also, I requested numerous times to remove an item off my report that is not mine. They keep saying it is a commercial liability policy for Lee Air Inc. I should not be responsible for this. Also, I have 4 accounts with NFCU that at 1 time was late in paying. This was over 2 years ago and since I have paid on time or before and they keep showing it as negative. NFCU says I’m in good standing. I’ve threatened to sue and they said go ahead and they would fight me no matter how much it took. What can I do? I can’t get a loan or credit. I needed to repair my home and was denied. Also, I was denied a loan to help pay off my wife’s medical bills.

I haven't always done right with my credit. It's very important that I take action and do it right now. If I have disputed $8,000 plus negative information from my report with all three credit bureau agencies, my points has increased well with all except Equifax and no one can explain why or let me talk to anyone that could explain why or who I could write to.
They have people who are not trained to answer questions and can't understand or speak clear English. They have made me feel like I'm working for nothing. I thought with each dispute that's settled, your FICO score should improve. Who governs this company and who can I talk to? It's like no communicating with this company unless you are buying their products. They only have knowledge of trying to sell you something and they read from a script for that. They can't help you with your credit questions, not even the supervisor. They have no knowledge at all.
Please help! If I can work to pay my bills on time now and dispute a lot of negative info that wasn't mine, why hasn't my points been increased with this company and how often do they redo your FICO score? If it was something negative, they wouldn't waste time decreasing my points. This company should not be allowed to get away with this behavior. They could do what they want to people and their credit. They don't care about the consumer. It's not their credit that's in question. Someone, please help me. I feel very defenseless.

I was denied credit by Citibank NA and PenFed based on credit reports provided by Equifax. I have been trying to get access to my credit report online through Equifax's website as mandated under FACRA rules; however, Equifax has blocked online access to the credit report.

I believe that Equifax is attempting to deny me access to my free annual credit report as required by federal law. In early July 2009, I filed my annual credit report request, the same month as in 2008. Since Equifax received the request a few days prior to the July date on my 2008 report, I soon received a letter from Equifax stating that I had received my free report within a 12-month period and that I could purchase a new report.
I waited until August 2009 to file a second request. Today, I received another letter from Equifax informing me that they could not verify my information. The information I sent Equifax in July and August 2009 was the exact information I used in 2008 to request my free credit report, which was provided in 2008. I had no problem getting my free annual credit report from Experian in 2009 using the exact same request form that I used to request my free credit report from Equifax. I believe that Equifax is attempting to cheat me out of my free annual credit report.

I went and got an account with Equifax, and account with TransUnion Truecredit, and an account with Experian's freecreditreport.com. What doesn't make any sense is why the one bureau is reporting a bogus number for another bureau. I called Equifax and kept telling me they are on a different scoring system. I would agree this would be an excuse for why their own number is different from than the other two, but I don't think they should be using their own formula to guess what the other credit agencies numbers are.
I have bad credit, and so that's the reason why I signed up. I figured out that if I disputed information, the credit agency has 30 days to remove the information from my credit report. Equifax sent me an email saying they can take up to 45 days. I read the Fair Credit Reporting Act and it says only if I give relevant information about the dispute within those 30 days, they can extend the dispute by 15 more days.

I sent letter to Equifax on 07/07/08 requesting they permanently remove the "credit freeze" from my account. I included a $10 check, 4 forms of ID and a letter stating I misplaced the PIN. On July 14, Equifax responded with a form letter indicating they needed a $10 check, 3 forms of ID and the PIN in order to permanently remove the freeze. I replied with a copy of my original letter indicating that I sent all of the above plus an additional ID. To date, they have not responded or removed the credit freeze. They do not supply a phone number to contact them and I am at a loss. It is important that I have the credit freeze permanently removed because I have been applying for work and employers cannot complete the credit background check on me. Please help. This is a nightmare. Thank you in advance.

The trouble started 3 years ago this September. My father (Donald Sr.) passed away and my brother, Dewayne, paid for the funeral. Shortly after, Dewayne started getting bills & mail having combination of his & Dad's name. His Equifax report then had his info and a mixture of Dad's. A few months later, I started getting mail with a combination of all 3 of our names. I bought a new Nissan in 2008. The credit manager said several of the banks they use had turned me down because I had my name on 5 different vehicles (from my brother’s construction business). I told the manager we had only the car we were trading. He showed me my Equifax report that had different combination of all 3 of our names. I also received a letter from Walmart regarding my charge card and they were lowering my limit due to my Equifax report.
I have called and spoken with 3 different reps who cannot find a file on me at all. They say it doesn't exist. It is so screwed up that it has everybody’s info on there. However, when I applied for a loan last week, I got an email from Equifax saying there was an inquiry on my file. So I called again, and the same thing happened again. There is no file on me. I asked for a supervisor and was placed on hold. No one ever picked up. I called the bank and spoke with the loan officer, and again was told that my name, Dad's name, Dewayne's name and several combinations of all 3 were listed. She said the funny thing was that she could find no SS# on there. The loan officer also pulled up my report from Experian credit reporting and my score was over 200 points higher there and the info was only mine. I can get no help from Equifax. I even sent a form requesting my report with copies of my driver’s license, SS card, utility bills, plus anything I could think of to prove who I am. Again, I received a letter stating they have no file on me. Yet, they find something to send my creditors. I need help but don't know where to turn next.

I canceled my 3-in-1 program last July '08. I went to buy a new car on August 1, '09 with the Cash for Clunker govt. program and found out that my credit report was still frozen, even though I had canceled over a year earlier, and the car company had my new car on hold. I called Equifax on Saturday and they were going to try their best to have it unfrozen by Monday. I called on Monday and Valerie, Sr. Tech, said that it would take 5-7 days for it to come off. This delay would have cost me $4500 from the clunker program.
I offered twice to repurchase the program, so we could unfreeze it, but I was told that that would not work. I asked Valerie to speak to her higher ups, so that they could help me resolve this, but she kept saying that no one was available and she could not give me their names or where to call them. Frustrated, I told her that if I were to lose the $4500 due to their failure to cancel my frozen account, I would consider suing them. Valerie said she could no longer "help" (ha!) me. After that call, I rejoined the program and called Customer Care to show me how to lock and unlock my account. The agent was very helpful and she was able to help me unlock it.
Later that day, I was able to purchase my car! The following day, I called to cancel my program. When asked why, I told the agent my story and she put me on hold. Valerie came back on the phone and I told her I was able to take care of it when she could not. She told me that the agent that helped me would be 'talked to", because they shouldn't had helped me. It is obvious that they do not have the customer's best interest at heart. Had I not reacted quickly, I would have lost the $4500 in the Cash for Clunker program.
Valerie is a prime example of what is wrong with customer service today. Instead of solutions, she gave me obstacles. I became very frustrated, but at least now I have my new 2010 vehicle. I still want to file a complaint with her company or the FTC. Equifax should be able to handle emergencies at a faster rate than 5-7 days; I did it in 20 minutes.

My business overdraft line of credit with Washington Mutual bank (WaMu) was cancelled due to "negative information on my credit report." When I received the said credit report, no negative information at all was contained therein. Two erroneous addresses were listed in the credit report but my correct address is not listed at all. I completed Equifax's "research request form" in order for them to correct the information and attached a copy of my driver's license as evidence of my correct address. They did not respond after 90 days so I called and was told that a letter was sent to the wrong address they had for me.
Equifax will not correct the information. They say that WaMu must correct it, but WaMu no longer exists and I no longer have an account with them. Equifax confirmed that wrong information is basically "carved in stone" if the creditor no longer exists or is unwilling to correct it. Their "research request form" is a sham and their dispute phone line is unhelpful. I have been trying to get this corrected for over 3 months.

Two months ago, I tried to get a bank card. After the lady ran my credit report, she treated me like I was a criminal. My husband works out of state, so we need some way for him to send me money without costing us a fortune. So we went to Wal-Mart and got a prepaid debit card. When I called to activate it, they said they needed more information. So, I faxed them the information. I never got my permanent card.
So on Saturday, my husband purchased a Green Dot card. We couldn't activate it, either. They said the information didn't match up. So I got my credit report. The only name they had for me was my maiden name, and the birth date was completely wrong - wrong month, wrong day, wrong year. That would make me 9 years older than I really am. I want this corrected, but I can't get a hold of a person. I am very angry.

This is a follow-up to a previous complaint. Equifax is still taking $14.95 out of my account, though I informed them I wanted to cancel 2 months ago. I consider this fraud and a theft. I am currently on hold with Equifax, and they said that the representative I spoke with to cancel my account stated I hung up on her. I verified that she had all the information that was necessary to cancel and she continued to try to "sell" their service, not listening to what I was saying. I asked her numerous times if she had all the information she needed to cancel, and she said yes. I ended the call, assuming the charges would stop. Wrong.
So, since my service is still active, I went through their automated service and placed a fraud alert on my account for their charges. When the representative came on the line, he was stunned when I explained that the fraud alert I placed was for their own charges. I now have a confirmation number for a refund of 2 months. We'll see if it ever hits my account.

On May 27, 2009, I was unjustly charged $99.95 by Equifax since I called up to change my primary method of payment to a different credit card, which they themselves have confirmed with me. However, they didn't follow through with my request. For almost two months now, I have been speaking to representatives of Equifax in order to be credited for this unruly charge, especially since I've already been charged another $99.95 on a different credit card, which is the card I originally wanted them to charge.
Below is a brief timeline of correspondences between Equifax and I of all the attempts I have made to have this charge credited back to me. Thank you for your time and help in advance.
I called Equifax and spoke to representative named William on 5/28/09 in regards to Equifax billing me $99.95 on my Macy's Visa instead of my Citi MasterCard, which I updated approximately 2 weeks ago. William understood my issue and forwarded my concern to billing with a Service Request # **; William stated this process would take approximately 7-10 business days.
No credit was issued yet and 11 business days passed already. I called Equifax back and spoke to Anne on 6/11/09 in regards to SR # ** and I was rudely hung up on. I called back and spoke to a man named Faiz. He told me that my Macy's Visa was still the primary method of payment and the Citi MasterCard was secondary. He updated my information as to delete the Visa and make the MasterCard the primary and only billing method (Note: He confirmed with me that I did call to request a primary billing method change). SR # ** is the new confirmation as to my Visa being credited and my MasterCard being billed instead. He then claimed that I would be contacted in 24 hours of this transaction to confirm the status of this issue.
Five days have passed, no one contacted me and no credit was issued yet so I called back and spoke to Maria on 6/16/09 and asked for a manager immediately. A supervisor named Mike ** came on the line to speak to me. This gentleman told me within 7-10 billing days from 6/11/09 is when this issue should be resolved, that is, on 6/25/09.
I called Equifax back yet again. I spoke to a representative named Ruby on 6/25/09 and asked for a manager immediately. A supervisor named Mary ** came on the line to speak to me and then rudely transferred me to the cancellation department after being placed on hold for 15 minutes and talking to me for 15 minutes - 30 minutes down the drain. The cancellation department said that they would transfer me back to supervisor Mary ** but instead, they transferred me to a representative named Jaime. I then asked him to speak to his supervisor. Supervisor Renaldo ** came on the line; within 10 business days, he guaranteed my Macy's Visa card to be credited and my Citi MasterCard to be charged.
On July 9, 2009, I wrote a detailed letter of the brief description that I have attached to their corporate office, hoping that they might help me. But I still haven't even received a response, at: Equifax Information Services, P.O. Box 740256, Atlanta, Georgia 30374. Today is July 20, 2009 and still I have not been credited back my $99.95 on my Macy's Visa, but my Citi MasterCard has been charged $99.95 - so technically, I have made a double payment. Please help me. Thank you.

My story is bad just like everyone else's. I have disputed an item on my credit report off and on for 3 years. They said wait 30-45 days. They kept sending emails, saying they're still disputing. Finally, an email came and said the dispute's completed. It told me the same thing every time. I called and complained it was still incorrect info. They started another dispute, and same thing happened in the exact order over and over and over. Anyway, they still are doing this to this very day. I called and told them that a loan I had was paid in full three years ago. My report says charged off to the very day. I call every 45 or so days, and they say the company is reporting correctly. I would call the company, but Equifax has the wrong phone number. I see they are investing very hard.
Anyway, every time I call them, I try to give them the company's real number, because I have been investigating myself for three years. How can I find all correct info but they cannot. I am a regular person with a computer. Does Equifax not have any computers, so they can find correct company info like I did? Nice work for the last three years. Maybe, they will fix it before the 7 years expire. Who knows.

I'm writing to file a complaint against Equifax. I am the victim of identity fraud, had an initial fraud alert placed on my credit file, and am trying to follow up. It takes a ridiculous long time on the automated system and requires excessive redirection in order to get the credit report and not pay for a score. At the end of it all, I finally reached a representative and requested that the fraud alert on my file be extended. The response given to me was that an extended fraud alert would only be provided after a written request.
When I requested to speak to a supervisor to have the policy explained, I was put on hold and subsequently disconnected. When I called the customer service line, I had been provided and assured that they would link me to a live representative who could assist me. But it went straight to voicemail on each of the 10 occasions I attempted to reach them. At this point, I have not received a call back to address my concern.

In July of 2007, I requested a security freeze be placed on my consumer credit information. In February 2009, I wanted to avail myself of lower mortgage refinancing rates. It was then for the first time that I realized I should have received a confirmatory PIN # for the freeze I placed back in the summer of 2007. I never did. So, on February 18, 2009, I sent what I thought was all the required documentation, along with a letter of explanation to Equifax Security Freeze. I also requested my free annual credit report (per the state of New Jersey) at that time. I sent the information, certified mail, return-receipt requested and the post office confirmed my letter was indeed received by Equifax. No response ever came. So, on March 24, 2009, I again sent a certified, return-receipt letter to Equifax, asking if my information was somehow incomplete, and again requesting my PIN # and free annual report.
On March 30th, I received my PIN #, but no credit report. Nothing else ever arrived. On May 19, 2009, I sent my third certified letter, return-receipt requested, still looking for my credit report. On May 24, 2009, I received a form letter back from Equifax stating I had already received my free copy of my credit report within the past 12 months, but I could pay for another copy now. This is not true. On June 2, 2009, I sent my fourth certified letter, return-receipt requested, still looking for my "free" annual credit report - and on June 9, 2009, I again received a form letter saying no, that I already received my "free" report.
As I explained in my fourth letter, if logic prevailed, one could easily see I have now spent more money requesting my "free" annual credit report (via certified mail, return-receipt requested costs) than it would have cost me to simply have outright purchased a report from the onset of my quest. It is very difficult and costly to only be able to connect with Equifax through letters. Without a two-way conversation, with the expense of certified, return-receipt letters and with the inconvenience of needing to frequent a post-office, I am really at a loss. It is absolutely infuriating that a consumer organization that holds so much power over the public may simply respond with form letters and no human contact or effort on their part to investigate a situation further.
Since I never received a report does that mean one is "floating around" out there? Or was one not actually sent? I did ultimately receive my requested PIN # - as I suggested to Equifax, could this mistakenly be registering as an actual credit report having been issued? Otherwise, how could a credit report have been sent out to anyone else but me if there is indeed a security freeze on my account? I have still been unable to apply for mortgage refinancing without access to this report and rates have indeed gone up. With my extreme caution - as exemplified by the initial security freeze as well as my use of certified mail, return-receipt requested - 4 times!
I feel that Equifax is either denying me my consumer protected free annual credit report or has neglectfully mailed it out to somewhere or someone else! If Equifax persists in saying they sent my credit report, I really feel victimized. As I said, I have gone through the efforts of placing a security freeze on my account and mailing everything as securely as I can, and yet my credit report ended up where? Not with me! What else could a consumer possibly do? Now I am left with the aggravation of this situation, the expense of my mailings, a questionable credit breech and the inability to file for a refinanced mortgage. Help!

I asked Equifax to correct a payment delay item on my credit report. They made no effort to investigate the item. This is what happened. Charter Communications was used to withdraw my monthly service charge from my checking account automatically. When I moved to my new house a couple of years ago, Charter did not withdraw money directly from my checking account for the last bill. Instead, they billed me to my old address which resulted in late payment since I had already moved. I asked Equifax to take out this late payment item, because it was not my fault that I paid late. I was penalized for Charter's mistake. Equifax did not do much at all.

I have been using Equifax for over a year and I thought it was great that I get to see what is going on with my accounts. I later found that someone might have been using my SSN to obtain services, etc in my name and so I signed up for Lifelock. Lifelock requested for my credit reports and such on my behalf and I got them all. A few months later, I decided to move to a new house and promptly updated Lifelock and all other agencies. I updated Equifax through my online account since they are right there and did not think much about it.
One year after moving, I found that I have absolutely no more use for Equifax and so I called to cancel my account. First time, I was put on hold for about one hour, during which I had a brief 10 seconds (maybe) conversation with someone asking me if I was holding for accounting dept. I said yes and went back to holding. After that one hour, I hung up. The second night, same thing. I called three times total, put my phone on speaker and just read my books. Over two hours, my phone remained on hold. I had enough, looked up the contacts and shot emails out to three sales manager. I was promptly replied to the next day that the information will be forwarded and my account cancelled. I called to check the next day and it did happen.
And then, a month later, Lifelock requested for my credit reports again. This time, I did not get any credit report despite it being more than one year since I moved. All the agencies claimed that I need to send in supporting documents that I am who I claim to be including Equifax. Now, I have to wonder just what in the world have I paid them for? Do they even know who they were working for while I paid for my services? Were they even true to what they were supposed to provide? What a sham.

I had a home invasion and many items were stolen including my laptop. I felt it's important to protect my credit as I obviously did not know how much information could be recovered from the laptop I did my banking and bill pay on. I called Equifax and they offered a 3-month free trial to watch my credit cards and indicated that any charges on my credit would be alerted via text message to my phone. I charged it to my debit account however, I did not know that I already was paying for their service through my Kroger Plus Mastercard. They discarded or ignored that I was already a customer. My bad, I wasn't keeping track that I had signed up previously.
My thought however, would be, let me know I'm already signed up and have been paying for over a year. Months past and no mention they were double dipping. It took 2 billing cycles for me to get their charge removed from one account. After that charge was not longer being collected, the Equifax alerts were fewer and farther between. I used a credit card that had not been active for several months and it took 30 days for an alert to be texted. I have cancelled all services, and am right now in dispute resolution for another charge on my account. Who is watching our credit? Those who are stealing it!

It does not seem right that Equifax can give out that information. All companies that contacted us said their info came from Equifax. I want my phone calls private. For Equifax to be such a "dominate" force where people look at for important issues, there needs to be better customer service and they do not need to give out information like this to companies. I requested my free Equifax credit report through ww.annualcreditreport.com. They said it was unavailable online, so I went directly to the Equifax website and requested the report. I had a few problems, for which I called customer service, which was very helpful. I was able to view and print my report. Now, what's wrong with that, you say? Well the next day, my husband had to go through the same process, except when he called Equifax they told him that the only way he could get his free report directly from Equifax was to purchase a product.
I couldn't understand, first of all, why the other two bureaus gave me my report from the annual credit report website, and yet I had to go through so many head changes to get the one from Equifax. I think Equifax is exploiting the whole identity theft issue. They say, "in order to further verify your identity, you must go through extra steps". I believe it is the main tool they use to force people to purchase a product from them. I really needed this one more report to meet with a mortgage company. This is just totally unacceptable. If Equifax can't handle customer service, then how are they handling my credit report? Unprofessionally, irresponsibly, or even nonchalantly. This is too important. If they can't handle it, then maybe they should not be an official record keeper.

I called because with a score of 800, my cable company wanted a $400 deposit on an HD converter box due to Equifax's recommendation. So I called them and their system is down. A 29-year-old kid is telling me he is the top guy and has no boss, when I am getting nowhere with these people. With their system down, how could I have gotten a bad check up when just 5 days before I was given a $12K cc with Lowe's? And again, an 800 score. I fought with these people to get a supervisor above Alex and I was told, "No, the boss does not have a phone number or an assistant. Alex is the top boss." Well I have been around and when a customer complains like I did, you would think a boss would be there. I know that when people want a supervisor, you should get it.
Then I see they have their own issues. I think someone should close this place. It is so hard to contact them. They even, when answering the phone, say "Please call back in an hour" and not "Hello. We are currently having issues. Could we call you or could you call back?" Very poor.

Background information: I have a Patrol ID credit protection plan with Equifax. On March 28th, I called Equifax to confirm an alert that I received from Equifax. The alert informed that First USA queried my credit information. The customer representative answering the call asked me (first) for my identification information (my SSN, name, address, place of birth and address). After he received this information, he confirmed that First USA is Chase. He also confirmed that Chase queried my credit information. Then he asked me to give him my credit card numbers. I asked him, "Why are you asking for my credit card number(s)?" He replied that he wants to enter this information for me in my file. I said that I do not need his help to enter my credit card information. He said that he wanted to help me do that. I replied that I am not going to give him my credit card numbers and goodbye.
I contacted Equifax again to confirm that the person I was talking to is indeed their customer representative. They confirmed that I was talking to one of their agents, but I was concerned. So the following morning, I called Equifax again and asked to investigate the first phone call - to please verify why did that customer representative asked for my credit card numbers. I also asked Equifax to contact me back telling me the results of the investigation. Equifax did not call back on that investigation. On 04/13/09, I called again (talked to an agent by the name Chris) and asked him what were the results of the investigation.
His reply was that there was no record of an investigation. He said that he has to inform the main office in Atlanta that I am asking for this investigation. He issued an investigation request with the main office in Atlanta (on my behalf) and said that they will contact me back within 72 hours with the results of the investigation. I have not received any phone call from Equifax (as promised). So I called again on 04/21/09 and spoke to a supervisor (Paul), who said that he sees a record of an investigation request issued to Atlanta (on 04/13/09), but he does not know why they have not called me back with the results of the investigation. He said that he is going to send another request to Atlanta to investigate about the phone call dated 03/28/09 and again, said that they will call me back within 3 business days.
It sounded as a repetition of the phone call dated 04/13/09 and I have doubts about whether I am going to hear from Equifax main office.

I went online to get my annual free credit reports. The other 2 companies gave me my reports without any problems. Equifax would not give me my report no matter what I did. I sent my info with ID proof that they asked for to the address given and have not received my report after a month. I am trying to file bankruptcy and must have that report, which I am going to have to pay for. At least $50.00 out of pocket, plus the stress of using their website that sent me from one place to another to another and just gave me the runaround.

I enrolled in and paid for one of the Equifax products since I lost an SS card last year (to keep from being a victim of identity theft). The subscription expired and my report remained locked or with a security freeze on it. I have called for two weeks - spoken to 16 different people including two supervisors and this still is unresolved. They read to me from a script that I am beginning to be able to reiterate to them. I tell them you are reading from a script. No one fixes or truly attempts to fix the issue, but they all tell me they fixed it because the last guy didn't know how to and so forth. I do not know what to do, who to speak with, etc. to have this corrected.

Through a 3-in-1 credit monitoring subscription through TransUnion, I discovered a significant error in my Equifax credit report. I immediately attempted to resolve this disparity by retrieving a free annual credit report from Equifax. Equifax repeatedly denied requests for free annual credit reports on annualcreditreport.com citing an inability to confirm my identity. Nor would they accept a written dispute form, stating that a Report Confirmation Number is required. Essentially, I was barred from submitting a dispute unless I bought a credit report from the company.
However, when I entered the exact same identifying information (as was input on annualcreditreport.com), as a paying subscriber through Equifax's website, the company was then 'magically' able to confirm my identity and deliver a credit report (a feat they'd previously claimed was impossible). The only difference being they got $9.95 out of my pocket, instead of giving me a free annual report as required by CA state law. Consequences: minimal economic impact, only $9.95. But the principle of Equifax not conforming to FCRA requirements and giving consumers the runaround is infuriating.

I tried to obtain business liability insurance last year for my contracting company and the insurance company (CBIC) was unable to get a credit report. I also tried to open an account with our local credit union and was turned down. Thank heavens, my wife has a limited partnership with me or neither item could have been accomplished. I have no good phone number for Equifax and the address I had (Equifax Credit Information Services, 1150 Lake Hearn Drive, Ste 460, Atlanta GA 30342) is evidently not valid, as my written request for lifting the freeze was returned to sender.

I, like others, have been able to obtain my free annual credit report from TransUnion and Experian but since 2005, I've not been able to do so from Equifax. Typically, their site tells you that it cannot provide you with your report online but would be willing to mail it to you. I consider it a security risk to have my credit report mailed to me and they are obligated to provide me this information once a year online. Their site tells me, "We're sorry. I received a responding email "Equifax confirms your request to cancel your Equifax Credit Watch (TM) Gold with 3-in-1 monitoring service". The following month, my credit card was charged $129.95 for another subscription for Equifax service that I did not order.
I have emailed several times with the attached confirmation of cancellation email and received no response or correction/reimbursement to my credit card. It seems to me that Equifax takes liberties in "playing dumb" with consumer service and billing not communicating, allowing fraudulent charges to occur and hoping the customer ignores or doesn't notice.
I am located overseas and I'm in a location with very poor phone coverage and unable to phone Equifax, and rely on sat. internet/email for communication. I am an identity theft victim and I first contacted Equifax. Equifax placed a 90 days alert and also requested me to take an Equifax patrol for $14.95 a month, which I immediately did. After reviewing all 3 credit bureau reports, I started correcting them one after the other. But every day, this ID thief tried to apply credit in my name and I got fed up of the inquiries coming in to my report and decided to freeze it. Experian and TransUnion immediately froze my account when I requested for it, after providing them with all the required ID verification information and documents. Equifax simply sent me a letter back that said they need my personal information and I didn't provide it.
This is just absurd. I provided all the information they needed and sent it to all the three bureaus, but only Equifax had the problem? So I decided to take this on and this time, I made sure that I wrote very clearly that I have provided them with all the information they need, but still they sent me a letter back that I didn't provide them with adequate information to freeze the account. So now, I knew what the problem was: I had their patrol service which they believe I would cancel, if my account was frozen. (Because you don't need to patrol anything when your account is frozen!) So I went ahead and cancelled the patrol service first (after 45 minutes of deliberation with account specialists at Equifax) and then decided to place the freeze online after paying $10. Lesson learned: If someone else is benefiting from your trouble, they will do everything they can to keep that trouble coming!

I then went so far as to purchase it for $10. After providing my credit card info, etc., I was slammed with another great statement from their website that informed me to click here to submit a request for my report to be mailed to me as once again, they couldn't even process my online purchase to immediately view my report.
As far as phone numbers go to discuss anything with anyone, there are none! What gives with this agency and who is monitoring their housekeeping practices, business, etc.? We tried unsuccessfully to obtain our free credit report from Equifax (says I have to do it by mail for some reason). I had no trouble with Experian or TransUnion; Equifax sends you to their website to sign in. You can only obtain a 10-digit number if you pay for one of their products; the 7 day a week customer service leads to no one at all, just a lot of sounds and then hangs up - so if you have to pay to get a free report and cannot obtain any information from a live person. Many many attempts made. After trying to purchase a 3-in-one, their website says they cannot find an account right after it said it could. Then they gave a number to call where I spoke with someone overseas who said they needed more information but could not help any further unless info was faxed to them.
I got the other two with ease and no problems providing the same information that Equifax does not recognize. What can be done about this? We are furious that this is happening! Well unfortunately, all the banks and retail sales companies love them and I was shooting myself in the foot. So I attempted to remove the freeze. I sent the $10.00 and the 5 items outlined on the letter they sent me with my PIN (to allow access to the account and lift the freeze), along with that pin number. Now I got a letter back that I have to submit more info (two forms of ID)! I called them and they are cold and even admitted their 1st letter might be wrong, but insisted that I once again jump through their hoops!
I am so sick of them, but realize they are a devil I cannot ignore. I am hoping you (or someone) can do something with them. About two weeks later, we received a letter from Sears Credit Company stating that we were not entitled to the Sears Charge Plus card. We were surprised at this, so I contacted them. They told me that there was a problem with our credit, so they gave me a number to call and this number was Equifax. I asked for the reason for this rejection and they told me that they couldn't tell me anything except that I had to order a credit report for a charge of $10. This form stated that we had an overdue balance and some sort of lien from New York State in the amount of $1,316. It also stated that we charged over the maximum allowed on the card, but my mom, who has excellent credit, was co-signer. The overdue balance was paid completely in two payments.
Also on the report, it would not state what the problem with New York State was. I don't know what the lien could be since we don't own any property at all, nor does my mother. The amount that we charged was over the maximum amount allowed ($7,000) for a Caterpillar machine. But the co-signer was my mom. On the form, there were phone numbers that were given in case we needed more information and when we called all of these numbers, they were either not in service or not the right numbers. One number was for the local fire department. So therefore, we could not find out anything from anybody. We have always paid our bills on time and have never had any problem with our credit, so we are distressed about this. Please help.
