I was denied a home mortgage loan due to the inaccurate information provided by Equifax Reporting agency. The report shows a person by the name of Joseantoni Juan ** with a birthdate of October 11, 1974. The loan mortgage company denied credit, decided on the fact that I was not the person on the credit report and credit information reporting.

After reviewing and disputing all inaccurate information, I was given a date of end of dispute of March 15, 2010. Which date was moved back several times by Equifax. I called Equifax to ask the status of the report that had the end date of March 15, 2010. I spoke to Sony over the phone, who did not have any information regarding the disputed items and did not offer any explanation of the occurrence. Sony did not know anything, but what was online, which I already knew. Sony was asked to give her last name and did not want to provide. I was then transferred over to a supervisor, who also repeated the same information that was given by Sony.

The staff in Equifax was very unprofessional and did not want to provide full name. The last person I spoke with basically said the same information and did not want to provide full name. At the end of the conversation, she just kept on saying she was ending the call. I was unable to contact Equifax corporate office due to the fact that no one with Equifax wanted to provide me with the phone number. Equifax has not cleared or verified information on the credit report. They have not called to speak with me regarding the identity or supply documents to support my identity.

Equifax is more interested in contacting other agencies that they have on my credit file. They do not verify information of the individual, before reporting it on the credit report. I am currently seeking legal advice regarding the credit information reported by Equifax. I am also currently in the process of filing an identity theft report with Chicago Police Department and a fraudulent report. Please advise if or what else I may do regarding my issue.

They are denying my claims to see my credit report, even though they have caused my applications for credit to be denied. I am trying to contact them to get my information but they are giving me the runaround. I feel as though they have incorrect information on file for me, but will still not let me correct it.

It has been a nightmare. I still have no idea how to get a copy of my credit report so that I can dispute their claims. I feel as though they are denying my claims on purpose in order to get me to pay their fees. Because I have been recently denied, they shouldn't be charging 10 dollars to see a report that I have a legal right to.

This company has my name with another person's social security number and their bad credit information. I am a college student with no credit. 4 times I have sent everything including my social security and driver's license number they ask for. Again, yesterday after the last time begging them to correct the information and including all documents, I get a letter asking for my social security card and driver's license which has been attached to every piece of correspondence. They are ruining my credit of which I have none. There is no phone number to contact. I don't know who to call. Please please help. Thank you.

My ex-husband had a car put up for repossession two years ago and I recently found out it had been reported on my credit by State Farm. I called State Farm and they verified I was not on the loan so I disputed it with TransUnion and they removed the report right away but I filed a dispute with Equifax and they said I was on the loan and that they could not remove the delinquency. I don't think they even investigated the dispute. I am going to file again through my credit reporting service and see if they can get something done but if they would actually investigate the claim, they wouldn't be bothered by several more disputes.

My husband and I are in the process of being pre-qualified to purchase a home. We have done everything to clean up our credit reports. Equifax is the only one isn't abiding by the bankruptcy law which is when a debt has been paid in the bankruptcy the debt is paid. The bankruptcy has been discharged and paid and removed because as of 12/2009 my ten years were up and removed. Equifax stated that since the BK isn't showing on the credit report, they need a copy of the discharge papers and a Schedule F.

This came down when I had to pay the debtor on 3/11/10 the amount already again to have my credit report updated. Trans Union and Experian updated with no problem and raised my credit score up, but Equifax will not answer their phones no matter which number you call and they don't respond to emails as well. This is a little complicated. I value my credit and financially in a position to buy a home. I don't have any other credit problems. This is the only glitch. Please investigate. Thank you in advance. I am spending so much time going back in to history of years ago. Still pending on home approval. This is really petty and bizarre.

My 15 year old daughter has a pay as you go phone. She has been receiving multiple calls regarding a credit issue that had nothing to do with her. Upon investigation, I was informed Equifax was the company trying to collect from someone unrelated to my family. When I called Equifax to inform them of the error, the woman was not helpful and pressed me to have my daughter's credit rating checked. She is 15. She has no credit. Then, the woman said I should have my credit rating checked. When I repeatedly informed her it had nothing to do with me and that they had the incorrect phone number, she said if I wasn't prepared to authorize her to check my credit, she couldn't help me.

After a very frustrating and long call, she gave me the number of the collection agency to contact. Unfortunately, she didn't bother to give me the Canadian number. If I ever should have a credit problem, or if any members of my family should have a credit problem, I will never, ever, if they were the last resort, use Equifax. These people definitely need a lesson in customer service. It would also help if their customer service representative had a working and intelligible command of the English language. I would also suggest a little homework on their part when setting up an account would prevent this type of occurrence. It is not that difficult to verify a phone number. And if I were in the business of financing a person unknown to me, you can be sure I would check all details prior to conducting any business.

After being denied credit for a car loan by four separate Lending Companies, each stated I was denied credit due to information reported by Equifax. I called Equifax on January 27, 2010 and ordered the 3&1 reports from Equifax. I was given a confirmation number. The funds were taken out of my bank the next day on 1/28/10. Since I asked to have the reports mailed, I was told to wait 7 to 10 business days. Upon not receiving the 3 reports (Trans Union, Experian & Equifax along with my credit score), I phoned again on February 15, 2010. I spoke with David he told me that for some reason the reports were not sent out, and the order was cancelled. I asked how could they cancel my order when the funds has already been taken from my bank account. David said that he would reissue the order and I was given another confirmation number.

Again, I was told to wait 7 to 10 business days to receive the newly ordered reports. Upon not receiving the second request for the reports, I sent a complaint email to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) on February 24, 2010. I have not had any contact from them either. It is now March 10, 2010. I am out of the $39.95 taken from my bank account and have yet to receive the 3& 1 reports that I had initially requested on January 27, 2010. It has been 43 days / 31 business days. Please help me in receiving these reports so that I will be able to find out what negative issues are showing up on my Equifax report.

Equifax sucks. I wish there was a way to put them out of business. They score me 120 points lower than Transunion. Their information is so outdated. I call and get no help. I fax them forms to have my file updated but they don't act on it. They are a rip off - $23.95 to see my credit score each time!! They have cost me so much money in higher interest.

They ask insane questions to verify identity - details from 10 years ago that are meaningless now and won't let you proceed if you miss one answer. Why lenders use them is astounding since they are so inaccurate. My ex-employer and ex-wife are still on file from 6 years ago. Insane. Whoever is leading them down this path of terrible service should be lynched or fired.

After several attempts to contact them through phone and online, it kept giving me the same response: "We're sorry, for your protection we are unable to deliver your credit report." After several more attempts, I finally tried by giving them payment and ordering the tracking service. Then they let me see it in which there is wrong information. This is wrong!

I tried to obtain a credit report from Equifax online yesterday, as a result of a credit denial by Capital One Bank. The letter received from that last-named institution gave us grounds to think that the Equifax Credit file might contain false or wrong information about my wife. The Equifax web page is not too user-friendly; most likely, they try to sell you their products. Although you are entitled to a free credit report as a result of a credit denial, they guide you to the place where you can get a free credit report as a result of Credit Federal Legislation. These two causes for free credit report request are different, but apparently, they try to make them the same.

Finally, I started the request until you get to a page that asks you to answer some questions that "only you can know the answers." These are questions obtained from the information they keep on file. Obviously, you would know the answers if the information related to the questions was information you knew. But what about the answers when the questions relate to information that has been falsely added to your file and you do not know anything about that? Well, you cannot answer the questions. Then you receive a message telling you that a report is not available to you at this time and instructs you to call customer care at a 1-866 telephone number.

I waited until the next day. The telephone system gives you two choices: 1 for English and 2 for Spanish. After pressing 2 for Spanish, we had the following reply: "Your call cannot be completed at this dial. Check the number and try again." Of course, you do not know the number. You pressed only a number 2. So I repeated the call. This time in English. My wife does not speak English, so I tried to speak on her behalf.

The first representative whose name was Sunil was rude, did not solve any problem, and indicated us to call 1800. The second representative I spoke with, Ann, took the information and told us to go back to the online system and that she had done her part at that terminal. We thanked her for her help, just only to find that after repeating the process, we were denied again the report and asked to call to that 1-800 number.

We tried again, called, and this time, spoke with Veronica, who told us they did not permit conversations through speakerphone and transferred us to Christy who is a Spanish speaker representative. Although she was nice, she told us there was nothing she could do, because we were unable to recognize details about a certain car loan that apparently they have on file and we have never had or requested. In consequence, we had to go to the 1-800 or make the request by mail. A lot of time was lost, and the frustration was growing.

The 1800. This is an automated system with a lot of recorded information that makes the process confusing. After some time of unrelated speech, it tells you that "If you have been denied credit, please visit our website to view a free copy of your credit file as allowed for credit legislation." What an irony. The website sends you to the telephone system, and the telephone system sends you to the website. As you can see in the address, this page is the one that gives access to a one free annual credit report by Federal Legislation and not the one that gives you a free credit report for denial of credit.

Anyway, it tells you later "Or if you want to continue with this automated system, to hear your state's fee, please press one. If you would like to add a fraud or active duty alert or request a copy of your Equifax credit file or credit score, please press 2. If you have a copy of the credit file used for employment purposes, please press 3. If you are unemployed or a welfare recipient, please press 4. If you are calling to request your free annual credit file disclosure under the fact act amendment to the fair credit reporting act, please press 5. If your are visually impaired and needs access to the credit file, please press 7 If you are calling on behalf a minor child, please press 8."

You have no choice. You have to click number 5, and immediately you gave up one free report like in a Harry Potter movie. But wait, your headaches have not finished. They will get some information from you and still will give you a confusing long message telling you to send a copy of the letter that informed you of the denial. They will mention the $10.80 they charge for the report fee in your state, and the $7:50 they charge for the FICO rate, I guess, in the hope that you get confused and send them those amounts.

Then they put even more pressure and start mentioning documents you must send them, starting with an illegal request of a copy of your Social Security Card and finishing with others, among them, a copy of your license, copy of W-2 forms, etc., etc. So, at the end, it was not an online request that got an instant answer, not even a telephone request that could have provided you with an immediate mail answer, but a theater act to make the process difficult and lengthy and that discourages its use by any customer. After all, they collected their fees already from the merchants that bought the first report.

You will still have to wait 15 days for them to process your request, 5 days in the mail, and, who knows if they wish to request you some other information that delay still more the process? It is frustrating, it is lengthy, it is humiliating, and it is abusive. It should be illegal; it should be penalized. It should lead to a shutdown of that Company, because they have received too many times warnings, fines, and penalties from the Government. When it all stops? I came to a web page that has 54 pages full of complaints.

Even Wikipedia gives this information "Retail Credit Company's extensive information holdings and its willingness to sell them to anyone, attracted criticism of the company in the 1960s and 1970s. These included that it collected ... facts, statistics, inaccuracies and rumors about virtually every phase of a person's life--his marital troubles, jobs, school history, childhood, sex life, and political activities. The company was also alleged to reward its employees for collecting negative information on consumers."

As a result, when the company moved to computerize its records, which would lead to much wider availability of the personal information it held, the US Congress held hearings in 1970. These led to the enactment of the Fair Credit Reporting Act in the same year which gave consumers rights regarding information stored about them in corporate databanks. It is alleged that the hearings prompted the Retail Credit Company to change its name to Equifax in 1975 to improve its image.

In 2000, Equifax along with Experian and Trans Union were fined US$2.5 million for blocking and delaying phone calls from consumers trying to get information about their credit. In 2003, the FTC took Equifax to court for the same reason and settled its lawsuit with the company for a fine of US$250,000.

It was still 2009, and the same happens the same. Would they invest too much money in lobbying or buying politicians? Customer care doesn't tell you, but it appears to be originated in Southeast Asia based on the accent of their representatives. Apparently, they can do very little for you.

I will keep this report and post it in every place I can in the internet. I will send this complaint to the Federal Credit Commission and to the Protection Consumer Commissions of New York and Georgia. We have never authorized them to collect information on us or to keep a file on us. That should be banned for being a very unfair and dangerous practice. We never agreed on them to keep information on us and much less to provide or sell information related to our lives.

Still, they do not care, and they make errors and are reluctant to correct those errors. They make our lives miserable and make money, big money, doing this. I think that we should be entitled to do the same to them. I told one of those representatives that it was shameful that this company could find employees whose work was to make the lives of other human beings difficult and that it was a shame that this kind of company could find employees willing to do a dirty job for a salary.

So I guess that the employees are a part of this shame that should be barred from everywhere. Their only concern is to sell you services, to make money. It does not matter which is the path that conduces to a profit or how many people get harmed in the way.

I will demand them to reply to our requests, to provide us with the credit report, and to make the necessary corrections. I will pursue any avenue if they try to make this process more difficult, and I will report them again and again and again. I hope that at some point, they will be stopped; and I want to contribute to that.

The nice folks at Equifax have refused to remove a negative mark on my credit report that has been their for 17 years. The SOL was 7 years ago. The other two credit reporting agencies were more willing to remove this outdated info from my report. Equifax on the other hand are unwilling and very difficult to deal with. They have nothing to gain by reporting this but I have a spot in a federal government job to possibly be excluded from due to their reporting.

Equifax feels that 17 years isn’t enough time for my suffering and that I should have it tattooed to my forehead for life. Makes one ask the question what is fair credit reporting from a private company. Thank god for the outsourcing to India, which makes resolving the issue that much easier. What does the general do when dealing with a company who has no ability to understand what is being said? Boneheads with nothing to lose and nothing to gain and a bunch of outdated info in which they feel is their right to report. The best part is they’re even showing my place of employment from 18 years ago. Nice to see they’re up on things.

After having my wallet stolen, I decided to freeze my credit for a few months just in case. I filed a credit freeze with Equifax online. After a few error messages from their terrible website, I was able to complete the process. When it came time for me to save the "required" information needed to remove the freeze at a later date, the information did not display on my screen.

After hunting for an inordinate amount of time, I was able to find general contact number for Equifax. After going through several menus that had nothing to do with my problem, I was connected to the most incompetent, rudest person to whom I have ever spoken. Despite my explaining the problem at least four different ways, he never understood that I just wanted technical support or the answer to the simple question that if the information does not display, am I going to be able to remove the freeze later? He instead first tried to sell me another freeze. Then, he wanted me to verify all the information on my credit report, which was not at all relevant to the problem at hand.

When I asked for a supervisor because he obviously didn't understand me at all, he was extremely rude and refused to transfer me. I ended up hanging up on him. Equifax is very difficult to contact with problems and complaints, most likely because they don't care. But I am furious that by simply trying to protect myself, and because of their complete incompetence all around, I may have locked up my credit.

Since losing my high salary job in 2008, I have been trying to clear my Equifax file of misinformation. I was CEO of a trade association and had credit cards (company) with my name on them. After I was gone, the company repeatedly failed to pay their bills on time, and this information was added to my personal credit file. I am frustrated and angry that this misinformation is negatively affecting my credit score.

Equifax removed 2 of the errors so far, however, 1 more which is the largest and most serious negative misinformation is still on my report. I know for a fact it is not mine, but that of my previous employer. What can I do?

I don't have the credit card # in full to contact Capitol One directly in order to clarify all of this. I need help and Equifax is of no help whatsoever. They have ruined my excellent credit and it has adversely impacted my life! I have lost 2 of my oldest credit accounts (Discover and Citibank). I have had my Sears account credit limit cut by more than half. I was unable to get a new credit card from my Credit Union to pay off 1 card at a lower interest rate. My credit score went down by nearly 100 points from what it should be with Equifax. I am working full time at a job that pays 1/3 of what I used to make and now that company has also ruined my credit!

I recently bought a new car and found my credit score with Equifax had dropped over 120 points. It appears that Equifax allowed another man, with bad credit, on my credit report. I tried to call them and I've completed and sent and e-mail complaint form. Equifax sent me an e-mail that allows me to view the results of their investigation. The problem is Equifax asked me some qualifying questions before I could view the results. One of the questions was about where I once lived. The choices I had to choose from were all towns and streets in Florida. I've never been to Florida, much less lived there.

Since I wasn't able to answer the address questions correctly, I wasn't allowed to view the investigation results. The other person that has appeared on my credit report is from Florida. I can't get in touch with a real person from Equifax nor can I access the investigation. It seems to me that Equifax is running some kind of racket. They would be more helpful if I paid them $7.95 per month. It also seems that I may have to pay them to protect me from them. My credit score dropped dramatically which affected my buying power and may have affected my car insurance premium. Any help from you is greatly appreciated.

The alerts, for larger-than-usual increases on credit card balances were listed on their website, but Equifax suddenly failed to notify me by email as they had for years before. After calling-in to correct the problem, I called again to request a credit for failing to provide the service I was paying for.

The rep, Gissele, who mumbled through a barely intelligible accent, refused to credit my account, so I told her to cancel the service. She put me on hold, came back and said she could credit me for the annual service fee not used since the statement dates, "October 12, September 12, November 12, December 12, January 12." After pointing out that September comes before October, I asked to talk to her supervisor. She said her supervisor was busy and would have to call me back. I never received the call back.

I check all my credit card accounts regularly online to download transactions, so what alerts Equifax provided was always old news. They provide an annual credit report as part of the account, but everyone can get that annually for free from them and the other two credit reporting services. In summary, an essentially useless service that they charge money for but nonetheless fail to provide, combined with a rock-bottom level of customer service. Equifax? Save your money and stay away.

Repeatedly every day, I kept getting collection calls from Portfolio Recovery. I was never mailed proof that the debt was valid, despite requests. I was informed that they would win in a court case, and convinced that a court case would be filed. My disability income was at threat to be garnished by this recovery agency. I was guilted into making $1,570 of a payment for an account that does not reflect on my Experian or Equifax credit profiles.

I am on a disability income and greatly inconvenienced of monies that I should not have been deceived of by this parasitic collection company. There is a website Rip-Off.com that details many other people deceived of monies by this collection company. I have contacted the Attorney Generals of the State of Virginia (location of Portfolio Recovery) and, of my state, California. This collection company should be investigated in-depth, and their business license terminated, and the victims of extortion refunded their monies with interest.

TransUnion should also be investigated for their professional negligence. I have requested a refund of my $1,570 and 18% interest from this recovery agency. TransUnion should also pay a penalty to me for allowing this adverse and very outdated file on my credit report. I do have the papers to reflect of my claims. My disability is epilepsy and I also have medical expenses related to breast cancer that I am in hardship of paying on due to this extortion by Portfolio Recovery.

Several years ago I noticed that some closed/paid in full accounts were reporting as open. I initiated the proper disputes, was found to be correct, and the accounts were marked closed. Should have been end of story. Equifax never closed the actual disputes, and when I pull my own credit report as a consumer, I can't see that the disputes are open. So in December 2009, I apply for a mortgage for a house I am purchasing. The rate was 5.125%, with low closing costs because my score was 721 (reasonably decent), except that when the report was reviewed, I was told I can't get a conventional 30-year mortgage because, although my scores are fine, the disputes were never closed by Equifax; and Fannie Mae does not purchase mortgages from mortgage companies if the consumer has open disputes.

These disputes should have been closed years ago. As a result, I spent hours on the phone with each of the three bureaus to make sure that no unresolved disputes remain. Equifax said they would be corrected by 12/21/2009, so the mortgage company re-pulls my credit and finds the disputes are still there as open. I spend more hours on the phone, and finally they are marked closed, but the mortgage company has to re-pull the numbers yet again. With multiple pulls, my score dropped seven points, forcing me into a lower Fannie Mae underwriting band with an additional $1,180 in costs because I am now "more risky" because my score was lower. In addition, the interest rates have gone up. So because Equifax didn't close the disputes years ago when they should have, obtaining and paying for this mortgage will now cost me over $7,700 more than it would have.

I have been going on and on and on in trying to fix errors on my Equifax Credit File. I have even listed a previous complaint on here a couple weeks ago. Today, new one: I am signed up with Equifax score watch, meaning each time my FICO score changes, I am sent an email to the effect. However, that hasn't been happening. I log onto Equifax daily to check disputes I have filed. I watch my FICO score change daily, yet I haven't been getting email alerts notifying me of the changes. Yesterday, Dec 21, I called Equifax to verify they received information I sent via regular mail, notifying them of a change of address. I did this in response to a dispute I filed with Equifax. It showed me on the site that the investigation has been completed and I am being mailed the results. I wanted to make sure they have my updated address I sent along with a copy of my driver's license, a copy of my current lease agreement with my apartments, etc.

The representative, of course in India, barely understood me. He stated they received my change of address to reflect what I sent them. All was correct except for the city. They have it as Charlotte, NC where as it should be Concord, NC. I expressed outrage that my credit report is being sent to someone in Charlotte and how Equifax is so incompetent with credit information. He explained to me that they only list what is sent to them. Well, this didn't make sense being that my driver's license clearly shows Concord, NC as well as my lease agreement. Nevertheless, he made the changes. Today, I logged into Equifax. I have an alert that my FICO score has dropped some 40 points. The reason they usually give is very vague. It stated that changes were made on my credit report on December 22 which lowered my score. After reviewing my updated report, the only change was made is the change of my address from yesterday.

Equifax website even stated that address changes cannot and will not lower or raise your FICO score. However being that the address change was the only change made in the past week, this is the only explanation for the change. I called Equifax and spoke to someone, of course once again, in India. She had me on hold 24 minutes before hanging up on me. I called back, got another rep in India (you got it), and explained once again the problem with the FICO score lowering. She stated she didn't see any changes that should have lowered my score, but she couldn't see everything so she was going to transfer me to someone else that could dig further into the file. I was placed on hold 20 minutes and was transferred to someone in sales trying to upsell me on my products and programs. She was constantly reading a sales pitch script, not listening to me or hearing my concern as if she probably didn't understand me either.

I am livid with Equifax as well as FICO. I have even emailed FICO company several times my complaints and questionings as to how they calculate their scores. They must feel they owe us the consumers no explanation at all because they are flawless. I have never once received a reply back from them screwballs. Our scores change daily, yet no one can tell us exactly why or what caused it to change and we are supposed to accept computer calculations? Okay, I’ll accept that but tell me what the calculations are. What exactly are you calculating to drop my score 40 points with no reason other than an address change?

I am even more upset with our government for allowing this to happen. How can you allow Equifax to outsource our credit reports to another country? That alone should be national security. I don’t want someone in another country having access to my personal information. Not to mention, when you call them upset and wanting explanations with your credit file, they don’t understand you. They read scripts and simply try to upsell you with something. When is the government going to change things?

I called and was informed I was receiving 3-in-1 monitoring. I did not request this service nor have I received any reports. I requested cancellation and refund. Apparently, during the process of requesting the free credit report, Equifax signs one up for this service without their knowledge. The consumer is charged for service not requested nor desired. I applied for a loan for a new car. With my current credit score (that I told them), I had the option of refinancing my existing car payment into the same loan with my new car. Great, until my bank pulled my credit score, 21 points lower than it is. I immediately checked my score on the 3 in 1 product I have from Equifax and it shows the correct score. So, I call Equifax and they tell me again the correct score. It must be a mistake right? No, I have my bank pull my score again and it shows up 21 points lower again. I call Equifax again and they tell me that it's "impossible". They offer me no solutions and simply tell me it can't be the way that it is. I go to my bank and show them my credit score from my Equifax 3 in 1 Monitoring but they won't accept it that way.

I called Equifax right in front of them and authorized Equifax to speak with the bank rep, Equifax hears that my score is showing 21 points lower when my bank pulls it and still, they won’t do anything. On top of that, my bank even after speaking with Equifax and hearing the correct score will not do anything until they can pull my correct score online! This is ridiculous and after 5 calls to them, I have no solution, only that it's "impossible".

I am filing a complaint to them but that could take months and my family and I are in a bind here. I can't afford to get another car unless I can refinance the one I have, which would be no problem if my score would show correctly! My wife and daughter are without a car and my work is over 40 miles away! This situation is "impossible", to quote the idiots working for Equifax. I can't get the loan I need and I work 40 miles from home. My wife and daughter have no transportation. If she gets sick at school, my wife can't even go get her. If they need to get to a hospital or doctor, they can't and we live in the country so no public transportation for them. It would take me over an hour to get to them with our 1 car if they need help.

Equifax should not have the power to establish credit scores on individuals. The frequency with which a person applies for credit does not have anything to do with late or non payment of accounts. They are therefore empowered to prevent good paying people from obtaining credit based on their scores, which in most cases are outdated or non valid. They additionally do not remove items which they have put there in error, thereby falsely report to lending firms. Their system should only be for reporting late payments or deliquency for non-payment. This would in return remove lending sharks like Money Mart and others. This would also force the banks to rely on there rapore with their customers.

I placed a credit freeze on my account about a month ago through Equifax as well as through Experian and Transunion. Currently I am moving so I wanted to remove the security freeze because utility companies want to check your credit prior to setting up a service with you. Removing the credit freeze for both Experian and Transunion was a breeze, everything was done online but Equifax has been, to say the least, a nightmare. First of all, when applying for the credit freeze there is nothing on the website indicating that you will actually have to contact them via mail to have the credit freeze lifted. Second of all, the PDF page they sent me with my 10 digit PIN number did not contain a PIN number, so now I have to send them a photocopy of my license and SSN number to first receive the PIN number, at which time I have to send them ANOTHER letter, again with a copy of my license, SSN number, and the PIN they sent me to get the security freeze removed.
I, like the other people who have complained about Equifax, don't understand how sending them personal information via mail is safe. And their customer service is, at best, awful. In the age of internet technology, I have to physically MAIL them my information? That's ridiculous. I am pretty mad about all of this because, when setting up utilities for my new apartment they could not access my credit because they only use Equifax to check credit reports I had to pay extra deposits or I have to go set the utilities up in person, something I absolutely don't have time for.

In one word, ABSURD! My second complaint seems to be echoed up and down every chat board that exists on the topic and that is the nonexistance of a phone number to reach a human being at Experian! The fact that you have to have a report inorder to have a report number yet many people are trying to call due to a random security freeze that only a live person could assist them to remove is a cruel joke. Those of us who have the money to purchase a report might concede out of exhaustion. What alternative do those who do not have the money to order a report do? These barriers beget apathy. However, when I applied for a loan last week, I got an email from Equifax saying there was an inquiry on my file. So I called again, and the same thing happened again. There is no file on me. I asked for a supervisor and was placed on hold. No one ever picked up. I called the bank and spoke with the loan officer, and again was told that my name, Dad's name, Dewayne's name and several combinations of all 3 were listed. She said the funny thing was that she could find no SS# on there. The loan officer also pulled up my report from Experian credit reporting and my score was over 200 points higher there and the info was only mine. I can get no help from Equifax. I even sent a form requesting my report with copies of my driver’s license, SS card, utility bills, plus anything I could think of to prove who I am. Again, I received a letter stating they have no file on me. Yet, they find something to send my creditors. I need help but don't know where to turn next.

I canceled my 3-in-1 program last July '08. I went to buy a new car on August 1, '09 with the Cash for Clunker govt. program and found out that my credit report was still frozen, even though I had canceled over a year earlier, and the car company had my new car on hold. I called Equifax on Saturday and they were going to try their best to have it unfrozen by Monday. I called on Monday and Valerie, Sr. Tech, said that it would take 5-7 days for it to come off. This delay would have cost me $4500 from the clunker program.

I offered twice to repurchase the program, so we could unfreeze it, but I was told that that would not work. I asked Valerie to speak to her higher ups, so that they could help me resolve this, but she kept saying that no one was available and she could not give me their names or where to call them. Frustrated, I told her that if I were to lose the $4500 due to their failure to cancel my frozen account, I would consider suing them. Valerie said she could no longer "help" (ha!) me. After that call, I rejoined the program and called Customer Care to show me how to lock and unlock my account. The agent was very helpful and she was able to help me unlock it.

Later that day, I was able to purchase my car! The following day, I called to cancel my program. When asked why, I told the agent my story and she put me on hold. Valerie came back on the phone and I told her I was able to take care of it when she could not. She told me that the agent that helped me would be 'talked to", because they shouldn't had helped me. It is obvious that they do not have the customer's best interest at heart. Had I not reacted quickly, I would have lost the $4500 in the Cash for Clunker program.

Valerie is a prime example of what is wrong with customer service today. Instead of solutions, she gave me obstacles. I became very frustrated, but at least now I have my new 2010 vehicle. I still want to file a complaint with her company or the FTC. Equifax should be able to handle emergencies at a faster rate than 5-7 days; I did it in 20 minutes.

My business overdraft line of credit with Washington Mutual bank (WaMu) was cancelled due to "negative information on my credit report." When I received the said credit report, no negative information at all was contained therein. Two erroneous addresses were listed in the credit report but my correct address is not listed at all. I completed Equifax's "research request form" in order for them to correct the information and attached a copy of my driver's license as evidence of my correct address. They did not respond after 90 days so I called and was told that a letter was sent to the wrong address they had for me.

Equifax will not correct the information. They say that WaMu must correct it, but WaMu no longer exists and I no longer have an account with them. Equifax confirmed that wrong information is basically "carved in stone" if the creditor no longer exists or is unwilling to correct it. Their "research request form" is a sham and their dispute phone line is unhelpful. I have been trying to get this corrected for over 3 months.

Two months ago, I tried to get a bank card. After the lady ran my credit report, she treated me like I was a criminal. My husband works out of state, so we need some way for him to send me money without costing us a fortune. So we went to Wal-Mart and got a prepaid debit card. When I called to activate it, they said they needed more information. So, I faxed them the information. I never got my permanent card.

So on Saturday, my husband purchased a Green Dot card. We couldn't activate it, either. They said the information didn't match up. So I got my credit report. The only name they had for me was my maiden name, and the birth date was completely wrong - wrong month, wrong day, wrong year. That would make me 9 years older than I really am. I want this corrected, but I can't get a hold of a person. I am very angry.

This is a follow-up to a previous complaint. Equifax is still taking $14.95 out of my account, though I informed them I wanted to cancel 2 months ago. I consider this fraud and a theft. I am currently on hold with Equifax, and they said that the representative I spoke with to cancel my account stated I hung up on her. I verified that she had all the information that was necessary to cancel and she continued to try to "sell" their service, not listening to what I was saying. I asked her numerous times if she had all the information she needed to cancel, and she said yes. I ended the call, assuming the charges would stop. Wrong.

So, since my service is still active, I went through their automated service and placed a fraud alert on my account for their charges. When the representative came on the line, he was stunned when I explained that the fraud alert I placed was for their own charges. I now have a confirmation number for a refund of 2 months. We'll see if it ever hits my account.

On May 27, 2009, I was unjustly charged $99.95 by Equifax since I called up to change my primary method of payment to a different credit card, which they themselves have confirmed with me. However, they didn't follow through with my request. For almost two months now, I have been speaking to representatives of Equifax in order to be credited for this unruly charge, especially since I've already been charged another $99.95 on a different credit card, which is the card I originally wanted them to charge.

Below is a brief timeline of correspondences between Equifax and I of all the attempts I have made to have this charge credited back to me. Thank you for your time and help in advance.

I called Equifax and spoke to representative named William on 5/28/09 in regards to Equifax billing me $99.95 on my Macy's Visa instead of my Citi MasterCard, which I updated approximately 2 weeks ago. William understood my issue and forwarded my concern to billing with a Service Request # **; William stated this process would take approximately 7-10 business days.

No credit was issued yet and 11 business days passed already. I called Equifax back and spoke to Anne on 6/11/09 in regards to SR # ** and I was rudely hung up on. I called back and spoke to a man named Faiz. He told me that my Macy's Visa was still the primary method of payment and the Citi MasterCard was secondary. He updated my information as to delete the Visa and make the MasterCard the primary and only billing method (Note: He confirmed with me that I did call to request a primary billing method change). SR # ** is the new confirmation as to my Visa being credited and my MasterCard being billed instead. He then claimed that I would be contacted in 24 hours of this transaction to confirm the status of this issue.

Five days have passed, no one contacted me and no credit was issued yet so I called back and spoke to Maria on 6/16/09 and asked for a manager immediately. A supervisor named Mike ** came on the line to speak to me. This gentleman told me within 7-10 billing days from 6/11/09 is when this issue should be resolved, that is, on 6/25/09.

I called Equifax back yet again. I spoke to a representative named Ruby on 6/25/09 and asked for a manager immediately. A supervisor named Mary ** came on the line to speak to me and then rudely transferred me to the cancellation department after being placed on hold for 15 minutes and talking to me for 15 minutes - 30 minutes down the drain. The cancellation department said that they would transfer me back to supervisor Mary ** but instead, they transferred me to a representative named Jaime. I then asked him to speak to his supervisor. Supervisor Renaldo ** came on the line; within 10 business days, he guaranteed my Macy's Visa card to be credited and my Citi MasterCard to be charged.

On July 9, 2009, I wrote a detailed letter of the brief description that I have attached to their corporate office, hoping that they might help me. But I still haven't even received a response, at: Equifax Information Services, P.O. Box 740256, Atlanta, Georgia 30374. Today is July 20, 2009 and still I have not been credited back my $99.95 on my Macy's Visa, but my Citi MasterCard has been charged $99.95 - so technically, I have made a double payment. Please help me. Thank you.

Finally, an email came and said the dispute's completed. It told me the same thing every time. I called and complained it was still incorrect info. They started another dispute, and same thing happened in the exact order over and over and over. Anyway, they still are doing this to this very day. I called and told them that a loan I had was paid in full three years ago. My report says charged off to the very day. I call every 45 or so days, and they say the company is reporting correctly. I would call the company, but Equifax has the wrong phone number. I see they are investing very hard.

Anyway, every time I call them, I try to give them the company's real number, because I have been investigating myself for three years. How can I find all correct info but they cannot. I am a regular person with a computer. Does Equifax not have any computers, so they can find correct company info like I did? Nice work for the last three years. Maybe, they will fix it before the 7 years expire. Who knows.

In July of 2007, I requested a security freeze be placed on my consumer credit information. In February 2009, I wanted to avail myself of lower mortgage refinancing rates. It was then for the first time that I realized I should have received a confirmatory PIN # for the freeze I placed back in the summer of 2007. I never did. So, on February 18, 2009, I sent what I thought was all the required documentation, along with a letter of explanation to Equifax Security Freeze. I also requested my free annual credit report (per the state of New Jersey) at that time. I sent the information, certified mail, return-receipt requested and the post office confirmed my letter was indeed received by Equifax. No response ever came. So, on March 24, 2009, I again sent a certified, return-receipt letter to Equifax, asking if my information was somehow incomplete, and again requesting my PIN # and free annual report.

On March 30th, I received my PIN #, but no credit report. Nothing else ever arrived. On May 19, 2009, I sent my third certified letter, return-receipt requested, still looking for my credit report. On May 24, 2009, I received a form letter back from Equifax stating I had already received my free copy of my credit report within the past 12 months, but I could pay for another copy now. This is not true. On June 2, 2009, I sent my fourth certified letter, return-receipt requested, still looking for my "free" annual credit report - and on June 9, 2009, I again received a form letter saying no, that I already received my "free" report.

As I explained in my fourth letter, if logic prevailed, one could easily see I have now spent more money requesting my "free" annual credit report (via certified mail, return-receipt requested costs) than it would have cost me to simply have outright purchased a report from the onset of my quest. It is very difficult and costly to only be able to connect with Equifax through letters. Without a two-way conversation, with the expense of certified, return-receipt letters and with the inconvenience of needing to frequent a post-office, I am really at a loss. It is absolutely infuriating that a consumer organization that holds so much power over the public may simply respond with form letters and no human contact or effort on their part to investigate a situation further.

Since I never received a report does that mean one is "floating around" out there? Or was one not actually sent? I did ultimately receive my requested PIN # - as I suggested to Equifax, could this mistakenly be registering as an actual credit report having been issued? Otherwise, how could a credit report have been sent out to anyone else but me if there is indeed a security freeze on my account? I have still been unable to apply for mortgage refinancing without access to this report and rates have indeed gone up. With my extreme caution - as exemplified by the initial security freeze as well as my use of certified mail, return-receipt requested - 4 times!

I feel that Equifax is either denying me my consumer protected free annual credit report or has neglectfully mailed it out to somewhere or someone else! If Equifax persists in saying they sent my credit report, I really feel victimized. As I said, I have gone through the efforts of placing a security freeze on my account and mailing everything as securely as I can, and yet my credit report ended up where? Not with me! What else could a consumer possibly do? Now I am left with the aggravation of this situation, the expense of my mailings, a questionable credit breech and the inability to file for a refinanced mortgage. Help!

Instead, they billed me to my old address which resulted in late payment since I had already moved. I asked Equifax to take out this late payment item, because it was not my fault that I paid late. Lifelock requested for my credit reports and such on my behalf and I got them all. A few months later, I decided to move to a new house and promptly updated Lifelock and all other agencies. I updated Equifax through my online account since they are right there and did not think much about it.

One year after moving, I found that I have absolutely no more use for Equifax and so I called to cancel my account. First time, I was put on hold for about one hour, during which I had a brief 10 seconds (maybe) conversation with someone asking me if I was holding for accounting dept. I said yes and went back to holding. After that one hour, I hung up. The second night, same thing. I called three times total, put my phone on speaker and just read my books. Over two hours, my phone remained on hold. I had enough, looked up the contacts and shot emails out to three sales manager. I was promptly replied to the next day that the information will be forwarded and my account cancelled. I called to check the next day and it did happen.

And then, a month later, Lifelock requested for my credit reports again. This time, I did not get any credit report despite it being more than one year since I moved. All the agencies claimed that I need to send in supporting documents that I am who I claim to be including Equifax. Now, I have to wonder just what in the world have I paid them for? I called Equifax and they offered a 3-month free trial to watch my credit cards and indicated that any charges on my credit would be alerted via text message to my phone. We have still not received a credit from them, so if you are thinking of using their service I would strongly recommend against it.

I called back every two hours and at 3:45 pm I was told to call back again. Itried to explain my situation to a woman who hung up in my face. I called back and spoke to Michael who tried to help me by telling me to call back tomorrow. Today I called back to only get the exact same run around. I called back and explained that my closing is being placed on hold and I never ordered a Fraud Alert and was not alerted that this had taken place. The rep said I would have to submit it in writing and send it to the company. Meanwhile I am cramped in an apartment with myself, husband, 2 dogs and 2 year old twins on the way to live with our family. I don't understand how this could happen! I started reviewing my yearly credit report via equifax about 3 weeks ago. since signing up for there service ( 29.00 month for all the watches and monitoring), i have had NOTHING but problems. i found several inaccuracies on my report that were not mine OR were inaccurate. DISPUTING AN ERROR ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT is so hard and so expensive. ive read tons of blogs/post's on disputing an error and they are all wrong. first a couple of errors i KNOW arent mine and i have proof, REAL HARD CORE PROOF. i filed an online dispute on equifax and got a response in 3 days??? come on, that makes me feel it wasnt even investigated. it told me all the information was validated and reported correctly. WHAT? i have proof in the form of a u.s. postal money order and have PAID the post office to trace the money order and validate it was indeed cashed and equifax is going to TELL ME it was "validated as accurate"? i called the 800 number, BOY IS THAT A BOMB. speaking to someone in india that you can hardly understand , there rude.. first , im offended that I AS AN AMERICAN should be giving my personal i.d. and information to someone in another country, THAT should be illegal! all the rep kept trying to do was ( reading scripts ) trying to upsale me on other services. i told her i didnt want other services, i DEMAND this be reinvestigated. she told me no, i had to deal with the debtor on this mater. WHAT? so your telling me, i have proof of payment and the debtor can still claim, JUST BECAUSE THEY WANT TO that i didnt pay and equifax will do NOTHING? im pisssssed. THE WHOLE credit reporting agencies should be re-organised with better standards from the ftc.gov..i was told by an attorney that the credit reporting agencies do not want your accounts removed, they actually make money off your debt and accounts by selling the information as well as the debtors have to pay each month to report your account, thus equifax would rather your negative info NOT be deleted. i REFUSE to believe the only thing you as a consumer can do is dispute in a letter, hope the debtor will remove the info because OBVIOUSLY they know there not legally ( theoretically speaking that is) required to remove it..and if the dispute finds in the debtors favor, your sol..nothing more you can do. oh yea, write the ftc and complain, write your congressman, sue them etc, no wonder so many people just leave negatives on there account..its a damn shame that it takes a second to get a neg on your account but a lifetime to prove its not yours. it should be the other way around. other problem with equifax i discussed with the INDIAN REP, one account was listed under "closed accounts" yet the account status showed "open" she argued with me LITERALLY being rude telling me " i know what im talking about and im telling you its open", i asked "then why is it showing under closed accounts"? she repeated herself with no help what so ever.also under each acount, there is a little graphic that shows 180 day payments..in that graph, according to it, ive paid EVERY SINGLE MONTH IN THE PAST 2 YEARS yet the acount says last payment serious deliquency, last payment in 2006..once again she argued...there website is totally misinformative and talking to them on the phone is next to impossible, THIS IS OUR CREDIT REPORT, it should not be this hard on us to get this taken care of. the whole credit scoring and accountability of the reporting agencies need governmental revamping..the government is bailing out all the big banks, when are they going to start helping people with credit issues, are we not worthy? after all, we are using our taxes to bail out the banks, when do we get a kick back to help our credit?

Sent 3 letters, even sent a printed screen snap of the my browser confirmation page. Each time Equifax mailed me my credit report with no letter of explanation or contact info. Spent a good deal of time weeding through the automated phone system as well. I'm trying to purchase an iPHone, and AT&T apparently uses Equifax as I'm unable to buy the phone and get service without supplying "the 4 digit pin code" that Equifax claims they sent me when I put the security freeze on the account. Their own internal documents say it's a 10 digit pin code, but either way - I finally crumbled and sent them a check for $10 to issue a new Pin code to me, despite the fact they never supplied one in the first place. Now to add insult to injury they'll probably cash my check and send me another credit report with no pin code!

I requested my free Equifax credit report through ww.annualcreditreport.com. They said it was unavailable online, so I went directly to the Equifax website and requested the report. I had a few problems, for which I called customer service, which was very helpful. I was able to view and print my report. Now, what's wrong with that, you say? Well the next day, my husband had to go through the same process, except when he called Equifax they told him that the only way he could get his free report directly from Equifax was to purchase a product.

I couldn't understand, first of all, why the other two bureaus gave me my report from the annual credit report website, and yet I had to go through so many head changes to get the one from Equifax. I think Equifax is exploiting the whole identity theft issue. They say, "in order to further verify your identity, you must go through extra steps". I believe it is the main tool they use to force people to purchase a product from them. I really needed this one more report to meet with a mortgage company. This is just totally unacceptable. If Equifax can't handle customer service, then how are they handling my credit report? Unprofessionally, irresponsibly, or even nonchalantly. This is too important. If they can't handle it, then maybe they should not be an official record keeper.

I fought with these people to get a supervisor above Alex and I was told, "No, the boss does not have a phone number or an assistant. Alex is the top boss." Well I have been around and when a customer complains like I did, you would think a boss would be there. I know that when people want a supervisor, you should get it.

Then I see they have their own issues. I think someone should close this place. It is so hard to contact them. They even, when answering the phone, say "Please call back in an hour" and not "Hello. We are currently having issues. Could we call you or could you call back?" Very poor.

Background information: I have a Patrol ID credit protection plan with Equifax. On March 28th, I called Equifax to confirm an alert that I received from Equifax. The alert informed that First USA queried my credit information. The customer representative answering the call asked me (first) for my identification information (my SSN, name, address, place of birth and address). After he received this information, he confirmed that First USA is Chase. He also confirmed that Chase queried my credit information. Then he asked me to give him my credit card numbers. I asked him, "Why are you asking for my credit card number(s)?" He replied that he wants to enter this information for me in my file. I said that I do not need his help to enter my credit card information. He said that he wanted to help me do that. I replied that I am not going to give him my credit card numbers and goodbye.

I contacted Equifax again to confirm that the person I was talking to is indeed their customer representative. They confirmed that I was talking to one of their agents, but I was concerned. So the following morning, I called Equifax again and asked to investigate the first phone call - to please verify why did that customer representative asked for my credit card numbers. I also asked Equifax to contact me back telling me the results of the investigation. Equifax did not call back on that investigation. On 04/13/09, I called again (talked to an agent by the name Chris) and asked him what were the results of the investigation.

His reply was that there was no record of an investigation. He said that he has to inform the main office in Atlanta that I am asking for this investigation. He issued an investigation request with the main office in Atlanta (on my behalf) and said that they will contact me back within 72 hours with the results of the investigation. I have not received any phone call from Equifax (as promised). So I called again on 04/21/09 and spoke to a supervisor (Paul), who said that he sees a record of an investigation request issued to Atlanta (on 04/13/09), but he does not know why they have not called me back with the results of the investigation. He said that he is going to send another request to Atlanta to investigate about the phone call dated 03/28/09 and again, said that they will call me back within 3 business days.

It sounded as a repetition of the phone call dated 04/13/09 and I have doubts about whether I am going to hear from Equifax main office.

Through a 3-in-1 credit monitoring subscription through TransUnion, I discovered a significant error in my Equifax credit report. I immediately attempted to resolve this disparity by retrieving a free annual credit report from Equifax. Equifax repeatedly denied requests for free annual credit reports on annualcreditreport.com citing an inability to confirm my identity. Nor would they accept a written dispute form, stating that a Report Confirmation Number is required. Essentially, I was barred from submitting a dispute unless I bought a credit report from the company.

However, when I entered the exact same identifying information (as was input on annualcreditreport.com), as a paying subscriber through Equifax's website, the company was then 'magically' able to confirm my identity and deliver a credit report (a feat they'd previously claimed was impossible). The only difference being they got $9.95 out of my pocket, instead of giving me a free annual report as required by CA state law. Consequences: minimal economic impact, only $9.95. But the principle of Equifax not conforming to FCRA requirements and giving consumers the runaround is infuriating.

She also wanted her FICO score so we clicked the box for that product (at a reasonable cost of $7.95). After that, the website was so poorly designed that we were unable to figure out how to get either the report or the FIFO. We were busy preparing for a major surgery, so we decided to wait until after that to see if we could get our report from Equifax. We found on our credit card statement that the $7.95 bill for the FICO score came thorough on the same day (even though we didn't receive it). On March 9, 2009, we called the Equifax customer care number (1-866-640.2273) and got an Equifax representative with a strong British accent, which we had problems understanding. I think that he said he would refund our $7.95 and provide the credit report and FIFO score online as we wanted. We did get the two reports, but we were dismayed to find that our credit card statement showed no refund of the $7.95 and a new charge of $15.95 on March 11. About March 16, we called Equifax again and got an employee in Atlanta. We said we wanted a refund of $15.95, and he said we would receive it within 4 to 7 days. Seeing no refund after more than a week, we called again on March 23. This time we got the India call center again. We again asked for a refund of $15.95, and the individual promised us the refund in 7 to 9 days (by March 31). That is where we stand as of today (March 24).

I know I have an equifax score/report because it was used for the mortgage I just was approved for on the house. I called Equifax customer service to resolve this issue. After about 10 minutes of dealing with Equifax's automated telephone system I was connected with Trish in customer service - 'credit monitoring'. I clarified to her that I am not trying to pay to see my own report, but I'm calling to resolve the issue of these utilities not being able to pull a report. Trish continued to state that in order for them to be able to do so I would have to become a paying Equifax member. I argued with her for a while about the issue and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told that no supervisor was available to speak with me. I hung up- issue completely unresolved and it seemed Trish was not going to help me unless I paid Equifax. I went to a credit - support forum for help and explained the demands from Trish in customer service and was given the email to a completely different Trish in Executive customer support. I emailed this Trish and received an automated response that she was out of the office, but to contact three others for help. I contacted these others and they referenced me to a phone number I could call for help. This phone number is not listed anywhere on Equifax's website nor did I find it on any available public docs. So I then called this number and spoke with Helen in Consumer Affairs of Equifax. I told her the utilities situation and she said that she wasn't able to pull anything up for me. She was able to pull eventually and said the problem was that somehow they lost my SSN and it was erased from my Equifax file. I was told to get this resolved I would have to fax over a statement of utility payment and a copy of my SSN card and proof of identity. Helen said that the problem itself wouldn't be resolved until 24 hours after they receive the fax with these items. They re-added my SSN and birthdate to my name in their system and it was resolved.

I tried to get the online report through Equifax.com and it transferred me to annualcreditreport.com which in turn, after collecting my personal info again directed me to equfax.com and at this time I got the message that Due to Security Reason they can not provided me the online free credit report [ which I am entitled at the least once a year per the much hyped FCRA ( Does Equifax even care about this so-called Law ? I dont think so !!! ) ] . And after this I was suggested to send them Physical form filled with my ALL Personal Info ( Including Socical Security No, Birth Date etc. ) and ALSO couple of ID copy to their P. O. BOX Address !!! How in this country where the Identitiy Theft is the Fastest Growing Crime, I can send all this info in physical form to a P.O.Box Address i.e. without any possibility of sending it through the Registered Mail ? I tried ALL the nos. as mentioned on their Web Site including 1-800-685-1111 which is specifically mentioned if Consumer was denied the Credit Report. All there is : Automated Crap regarding the Product / Services they want to sell to me. The Automated voice asks me to agree to pay $7.95 to pay for the copy of the Credit Report!!I tried for at the least One Hour all the Nos. I found on the various forums where just like me hundreds other were searching the no to talk to liver person but, theres not a single no. where you would be able to talk to live person. You can talk to live person only if you have bought their x, y, z services i.e. you pay them, they send you the report immediately !!!! ( Once, Equifax gets paid, then this crook company dont face any a,b,c problems on line you straight a way get your report with the Report No and the Phone No on it, to call them and you will get live person immediately !!!???? ) What kind of Business Practice is this ? Does the United States Congress listening to the plight of the common man or Almost all of the senators are too busy in listening to that much hated brid of Lobyists ???!!! This contry is going the way of Banana Republic !!! Even God May not Save Her !!!! Thanks a Lot At the least, theres one web site in this Great ( ??) I received a decreased credit limit due to a report to HSBC from Equifax. It stated on the letter that I was able to receive a free credit report from Equifax if I contacted Equifax within 60 days. I called Equifax the same day I received the letter and was directed to their website. I followed the instructions with no additional services requested to download and view my file. The Equifax website sight stated for me to select and download the file with no fee involved-stated 0.0. It stated that I would only have 1 chance at this and I would have to pay for a report after this the one chance I had to download the file. I clicked on the file and it immediately put me to the member sign in page and stated that there was a fee to become a member unless I purchased a service from then. No report was downloaded for me. No attempt was made to download this file. I made no mistakes in understanding the procedures. Equifax now states I will have to pay for a report because a report was delivered to me. This never occurred. The whole time I was trying to get my report the site continually tried to sell me other services. I believe that every attempt was made to not allow me to get my free report and that I was intentionally routed to the membership area to pay a fee instead of the file being downloaded free for me see and print.

I then respectfully declined, and stated I wished to have the service cancelled immediately. The representative then began to argue with me, telling me there would be no additional charge if I kept it for the rest of the month, and to just "call back the last day of the month and cancel". I began to get upset with the representative for not respecting my request. After he sensed my frustration, he told me to "calm down, no problem he would cancel the service".
Sure enough the next month I was charged $39.00 again. I called Equifax and lodged a complaint, after 36 minutes on hold I spoke with a rep who stated I had been charged by mistake, and they would remove the charge in the next 2-3 days. Three weeks later the charge had not been removed. I re-phoned Equifax, waited on hold for 23 minutes, and spoke with a rep who stated she would take care of the case, and they had been having "paperwork issues". A year ago, my request for overdraft protection on a newly opened checking account at a major bank was rejected. The bank ran only one credit report, (from Equifax). At that time, I checked my reports and FICO scores from all three agencies. My Experian score was over 800, that from TransUnion was similar, but my score from Equifax was over 100 points lower, in the 650 range. The facts in the body of all three reports were essentially identical and all were correct. It was the FICO calculation by Equifax that was incorrect. At that time I spent twenty hours talking to Equifax personnel and wrote multiple letters. They refused to correct the error in the FICO score despite acknowledging the inherent contradictions in the facts cited below.
Last week I again checked my credit report and FICO scores from all three agencies. My scores were the same as last year. My Experian score now is 804, my TransUnion score is 776 but my Equifax score is 696. As was the case last year, the facts in the body of all three reports were essentially identical and all were correct. My current Equifax report (as did the one a year ago) states three negative factors: 1. You have a serious delinquency... The body of the Equifax report refers to an account with a collection agency in New Jersey: 120+ days past due. Next to this comment, the report notes Balance $0. (How can an account be past due if there is a zero balance?) The Credit-At-A-Glance? portion of the report states: No accounts past due?. I called the collection agency and they claimed there was an overdue ATT bill for $27 from 2003. I had no knowledge of this. I spent two hours in two separate calls to ATT. ATT said there was no record of any overdue account, for either land line or cellphone service, at any time. Furthermore, I currently have an ATT cellphone account in good standing. I disputed the alleged bill, but was told by Equifax that the charge was documented?; no proof was offered. 2. You have a short credit history. (Please note that I am a 74 year old physician...) Immediately adjacent to this is their comment: Your oldest account was opened 23 years, 8 months ago. (A BofA credit card that is still active.) Right below that history is Average age of your accounts 7 years. My history, as Equifax representatives have acknowledged on the phone, meets the Equifax criteria for long credit history - not short. 3. There is no recent activity on your revolving accounts. (Revolving accounts include credit cards.) Just below this, the Equifax report continues with a list of positive factors, including positive factor #2: You have many accounts that are in good standing and positive factor #3: Youve shown recent use of credit cards. This is more than frustrating; accurate credit reports and FICO scores are crucial, especially in the current financial climate. As noted, I was turned down once because of the error in the FICO calculation. I have again protested to Equifax, but they have not corrected the errors.

Then after verifying my info for approx. 15 min. they tried to sell me on monthly service for 1 1/2 hrs! When I asked them to send me terms in writing regarding cancellation policy, they would not. Then he said he would finally release my account; gave me user name and password over phone and promised that my account would be released it wasn't! After complete exhaustion, I called again, talked to another rep and explained. She then said I would have to pay a higher amount than the original website quoted in order for me to release my one time credit and fico score. After 3 hrs. I finally got my report, which was 100 points less than the other two agencies! I have no bad credit or remarks from any agency. All credit in good standing! I have to wonder if I signed up for monthly service, would they give me a better score? How can the Government let this go on? Also, I question if the reps were really in Atlanta, or from another country. Also, I was in the middle of writing an email to Equifax and my email dissappeared. For some reason, Equifax makes no effort to report accurate credit information on people, yet many large companies use them (like Ford Credit, for example). It just amazes me that for something so important can be so incorrect. Especially when one's credit info FICO scores are the final say in most personal financing, job application and insurance policy rates. When purchasing my three credit bureau reports from a reputable third-party company, I saw that my Equifax Fico score is about 80 points lower than the other two credit reporting bureaus. When I scrutinized the report, I found several errors and misreportings. In my attempt to dispute them on Equifax's website, I discovered that I needed an account number. In order to get that, I had to apply for a free report from Equifax. So I applied, and the result was that I wasn't eligible for a free one. Fine, so I bucked up and shelled out $17.95 for a paid version, and after submitting my info -- AND getting charged for it -- I got the notice that they could not offer my report to me online and that I had to call a number. I called the number, and gave up after being on hold for over 15 minutes. It's ridiculous!!!! TransUnion and Experian were a breeze to work with, and disputing the few errors I found in their reports was no problem.

We signed up with Equifax services after our tax returns had been stolen last year (2008). After a few months of their service we decided we didn't need it anymore and we cancelled it in a legit manner. Last month when the interest rates dropped down to their lowest point in the last 40 years we decided we wanted to refinance. We filled out the paperwork with a loan officer and waited for him to start the process. Part of this process was checking our credit score. When our loan officer tried to check our credit score he found it had been locked. So last month I contacted Equifax to try and determine why our credit had been locked. They said that was part of their process but that they would unlock it at my request. They told me that it would take up to 10 days to do this. I waited more that the 10 days and then called them back to see what the problem was. They assured me this time that my credit would be unlocked in 48 hours. Once again they didn't follow through on their promise and now this same situation has repeated itself another 5 times. Each time I call they guarantee that it will be unlocked and that someone will be in touch with me in 48 hours to update me on the progress. I've called now so many times that I know that nothing is going to be done about it. It has been over a month since my first inquiry and I still have a lock on my credit.

I was shocked, as my credit score went from 660 to 621 based on an action sent to them by Nationwide Credit, that I owe them over $500.00 for what I do not know, they did not specify this. Basically, this is bogus anyway, I do not owe any company any moneys that would have been placed in collection, and I was not even aware that this type of thing was about to happen. I have not had any business with Nationwide Credit, all my bills are current and have been for several years, I maintain protections on my credit to prevent fraud and still this happens. Bottom line, this company has filed this negative report on my credit profile without contacting me and making me aware that this was going to happen, so in essence they have established I was guilty of owing this money without providing me with any proof that would allow me to create a dispute. They chose instead to ruin my credit report, make a false report that I owe them $500.00 without showing me what they have. I don't know these people, and I don't know what they are claiming, and I intent to file and prosecute them for what they are trying to do. In my mind it is defamation of character and trying to destroy my credit life, which at 70 years of age has taken some time to build up. This company should be held responsible for this miscarraige of making false reports. What happened to the words Innocent before proven Guilty, looks like they have changed this to suit their motto. I am an Equifax Credit Watch Gold member. I received a credit watch alert email on 12/31/08. I tried logging into my account to see what happened, and got an error message back stating We're sorry, the system is temporarily unavailable. I called Equifax and was told the system was being changed over the New Years holiday. I have received 4 more alerts since then, and have called at least 5 times. I was told on my second call that they would have it fixed in 24-48 hours. I heard this 3 times. The last call, I was told that their were many people with this problem, and they would email me when the problem was fixed. It is now 38 days since the problem started, and no email. I received yet another email credit alert today saying there had been a change to one of my accounts, yet I still get the same login error message. I tried calling the 'special' customer service number again, and ended up having a dead battery on my cordless phone waiting on a person to answer. My wife has the same service, and her account has been working all along, so their system isn't totally broken. Why they can't give me a work around to get into my account is beyond me. I have a background of over 30 years in IT, and know that if you care about customer service, system issues like this do not go beyond a few days without heads rolling. What kind of way is this to run a business???

Equifax Online Complaints - Un-authorized charges and not refunding those Charges
Review all Equifax Online complaints Equifax Online Posted: 2009-02-02 by lovie2000 Un-authorized charges and not refunding those Charges Complaint Rating: Company information: Equifax Credit Services United States equifax.com The Equifax online site is full of **** I was subscribed to this service for two years Last November I cancelled the subscritions I had because some of the services I was paying for were not accessible by my or active. I did not feel that it was right to continue to take my money for services that I was not receiving. After canceling these services, charges appeared in Decembert on my account for the services that I had cancelled. I called and the charges were refunded within about a week. Then January rolls around, and they charged my account again for the same cancelled services. When I called again they were very adimate about how I hadn't cancelled, and then saying that there was no record that I cancelled my services, but when I told them yes I did, you are not looking at my call history on the account, you can't be, because if you were you would see that I was refunded for non-authorized charges last month, then they oh I see it now...we are going to escalate this matter to the accouting dept...well two days later a refund appeared on my account, but it was not the full amount, so I called again and was told the same mess and that it should be back in my bank account in less than a week, but we need to get your card number, in order to place it back on your card, because you had us to delete your card information when you last called. I told them yes I did, so that I would not have to go through this again with charges on my account. I also stated that why did the one of the charges come back and not all of it, she couldn't answer that but needed my card information to send the ticket to the service dept...Well here it is 02/02/09 and still no refunded charges so I call again and I am told the same thing, but she doesn't ask for my card information, just that she will send the information to the services department, but we need a statement faxed to us showing these charges, (are you kidding me), I told this lady if you are looking at my account profile you will see that this has already been verified and the same thing you are telling me the last person told me, and nothing has been or is getting resolved. Well Ma'am she says, give it a 3 days and if we haven't contacted you or if the refund hasnt been credited call us back. Once again are you kidding me. So before I hung up, I told her that this was rediculous and uncalled for, and that I was tired of calling about the same thing, being told the same thing, but nothing happening and what I think I should do is a file a complaint with FTC and the Attorney General, you have a nice day, and all she could say was o.k. ma'am, you too.

I found this out within about 5 mins. I called and spoke with Equifax once again. Nothing changed they said they had to wait for them to email them back with the response. It has now be well over 2 months and it is still being reported on my credit report. I found out just the other day that all the companies but one has responded back to the email and nothing has change again. Apparently, my information at Equifax has a Fraud Alert. So I had to speak in person to a loan officer who had my Equifax information before them. The loan officer said that none of the previous previous addresses I provided matched to the Equifax information.
From that point, things progressed with my loan application after the Sally Mae people verified me through Trans Union instead. However, in light of the skyrocketing claims of ID theft, I am very concerned as to why Equifax has wrong addresses on me. I have attempted to reach Equifax, via their website and via phone. Their website has link that indicates you will be able to speak to a person, but when you click the link it takes you to a page that wants you to pay to become a member. I also tried to reach them by phone by contacting them through another number, knowing full well it was for a different service of theirs, figuring I would just explain and maybe finally get transferred. Well, it almost worked, except then you end up sitting on indefinite hold. I don't want to pay to become a member, nor do I feel that I should have to spend my expensive cell phone minutes to correct a situation that is not my fault. I am an identity theft victim and I first contacted Equifax. Equifax placed a 90 days alert and also requested me to take an Equifax patrol for $14.95 a month, which I immediately did. After reviewing all 3 credit bureau reports, I started correcting them one after the other. But every day, this ID thief tried to apply credit in my name and I got fed up of the inquiries coming in to my report and decided to freeze it. Experian and TransUnion immediately froze my account when I requested for it, after providing them with all the required ID verification information and documents. Equifax simply sent me a letter back that said they need my personal information and I didn't provide it.

This is just absurd. I provided all the information they needed and sent it to all the three bureaus, but only Equifax had the problem? So I decided to take this on and this time, I made sure that I wrote very clearly that I have provided them with all the information they need, but still they sent me a letter back that I didn't provide them with adequate information to freeze the account. So now, I knew what the problem was: I had their patrol service which they believe I would cancel, if my account was frozen. (Because you don't need to patrol anything when your account is frozen!) So I went ahead and cancelled the patrol service first (after 45 minutes of deliberation with account specialists at Equifax) and then decided to place the freeze online after paying $10. Lesson learned: If someone else is benefiting from your trouble, they will do everything they can to keep that trouble coming!

About two weeks later, we received a letter from Sears Credit Company stating that we were not entitled to the Sears Charge Plus card. We were surprised at this, so I contacted them. They told me that there was a problem with our credit, so they gave me a number to call and this number was Equifax. I asked for the reason for this rejection and they told me that they couldn't tell me anything except that I had to order a credit report for a charge of $10. This form stated that we had an overdue balance and some sort of lien from New York State in the amount of $1,316. It also stated that we charged over the maximum allowed on the card, but my mom, who has excellent credit, was co-signer. The overdue balance was paid completely in two payments.

Also on the report, it would not state what the problem with New York State was. I don't know what the lien could be since we don't own any property at all, nor does my mother. The amount that we charged was over the maximum amount allowed ($7,000) for a Caterpillar machine. But the co-signer was my mom. On the form, there were phone numbers that were given in case we needed more information and when we called all of these numbers, they were either not in service or not the right numbers. One number was for the local fire department. So therefore, we could not find out anything from anybody. I have a very good on-time payment history according to Equifax. In October, I paid down total debt from $60k to $54k, and during that period, transferred funds from 2 high interest accounts to low interest balance transfer offers on existing cards (Discover and WaMu). During this period, Equifax lowered my FICO score from 699 to 696, instead of going up considerably with the lower overall debt. Presumably, as I am now close to the limit on Discover and WaMu, I'm a higher risk. But this is an overly simplistic algorithm which ignores the fact that my total debt is significantly lower. I believe this quirk in the algorithm is intentional so consumers have to pay higher rates on future loans. With the high number of offers issuers extend to existing cardholders, I am sure mine is a common story: moving high interest debt to low interest debt.

The security question demanded I say yes to the fact that I had a mortgage on a house in 2006 but I have never had a mortgage in my entire life. I then pulled up my credit report and there was not a single thing about me ever having a mortgage so I can't see how I failed the security question. I did notice that there was some derogatory about a gas card which was open and current but was initiated 18 years ago with a standing $282 balance. I contacted the gas card company and they could not locate any information on me and were puzzled as to why Equifax would list the account number on this fictional debt as Unknown. So I try to contact Equifax about this and the website says I need to order a credit report, get a confirmation number and then call them with the number on the report or input it into an online form. Well I fill out all my info on the online form but at the end I get told that they cannot send me my report, for a variety of vague reasons, or any information that I NEED to contact them with either by online form or phone call. My only choice is by mail and if you google Equifax and mail response you will see that correspondence by that route is very slow and frustrating. They are making money off of my information, information that is incorrectly listed, so I think I should be entitled to contact them in an easier manner.

There was no way to view my credit report.Equifax keeps shuttling me to screens where I can purchase Equifax products. So I can only receive my credit report if I pay them money. They are violating the annual free credit report law.

Good product as long as you don't have to call customer service.
I've had this service for several years and have been quite happy with it. But over the last couple of years, I've had terrible experiences renewing the service, having to endure long phone calls with customer service, >30 minutes (one time about 1 hour!) I signed up for the credit watch, they charge my credit card but I was unable to access the reports. I called them last night, and they said that there was something wrong with the system. So I tried all day today, and still no luck. Tonight I call back, another 30 minutes and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. I told them: I've already paid for the service, so where is it? -- I don't think I was being rude, but they were unable to provide an answer to that simple question! Finally, the rep said, she would keep trying and then she would call me back. Which she did about 1.5 hours later, and all is fine now.

Like many others have already noted, I tried to get my free annual credit report and my FICO score for $7.95. Had no problem signing up and they had no trouble taking my money. But I couldn't access either the report or my credit score from their online screen. Took me to a login screen where I couldn't log in because I wasn't registered. Was never offered an opportunity to register. After way too long navigating the Equifax web site, I finally called a phone number I found here, talked to a person who actually transferred me to a real live person (in India) who could help me. The phone number is 1.866.640.2273. This is Personal Solutions Customer Care. The guy was actually able to help me get registered and I finally logged on and saw both my credit report and FICO score. Be prepared to answer 20 or 30 questions to prove who you are....and to listen to a hard sell for purchasing more of their services. But at least I was able to get what I paid for. Good Luck!

    1) It is impossible to contact anyone at Equifax.
    2) I have twice ordered a copy of credit report via mail, the last one more than eight months ago, and I have yet to receive a copy. 3) You can order one online if you have a credit card (seems to work when you are giving them money). Please forward this to responsible government agencies to both Canada and United States. Equifax is beyond incompetence.

My Equifax credit reports contains completely inaccurate information including wrong social security, wrong date of birth, wrong address, over 40 credit cards that are not mine, mortgages that are not mine. I have attempted to contact Equifax for the past 8 months to have all this information corrected. The only form of contact is via postal mail. After making my case with the company via a letter, they asked me to submit documentations verifying my documentation. I have sent the company my drivers license, my U.S. passport, birth certificate, social security card, etc. I have sent the company every piece of identification documents that are available and the company has made no efforts in correcting the information. These documents were sent at least 4 times with certified mail from the U.S. Postal Office to ensure the company receives them. The only letter I have received from Equifax in response to my claim was that Equifax is not able to identify who I am.
As a result, my credit has been reduced from 750+ to 400, below sub-prime. My credit card limits have been reduced to laughable levels. My salary is well above six figures and my credit has always been maintained pristine. Currently, due to the mistakes of Equifax and inability to fix their mistakes, I cannot even get a loan for a car, let alone apply for a mortgage. If it is possible, please help me fight Equifax. I am willing to supply any documentation necessary to further my cause and reach a solution. Also, TransUnion and Experian (the other two major credit reporting companies) have the most update and accurate information containing my history and identity. My credit score with these two companies is above 750, so it seem it's only Equifax that has been unable to perform efficiently. My phone number is 646-541-4439, please feel free to contact me anytime. Best regards, Armen Semizian.

This credit bureau should be investigated by the feds. It is a scam pure and simple with absolutely no way to correct a credit report that is outright wrong. You cannot obtain your free credit report as they run you around every angle, write to this address, no another address, I then forwarded my request to the right address to get a letter back telling me that my free credit report was going to cost me $7.95. Forget about obtaining it on-line for free. Without the report you cannot dispute any incorrect information - period! So, you are denied credit, run ragged for a company that is allowed to ruin people's lives unchecked.

When I and two family members paid Equifax in Atlanta, Georgia to add a security freeze on each of our accounts, they failed to send us our PIN numbers. When we switched utility companies, we were told we had to pay a deposit based on info from Equifax and were given the address Equifax, PO Box 674402, Houston TX 77267-4402 to receive the credit information provided by Equifax under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The letter was returned not deliverable as addressed. I also requested a free report by phone and received a letter from Equifax in Atlanta, GA stating I had to send the PIN number or they would not send me my report. The Equifax letter offered to sell me my credit score for $7.95 without a PIN number. A replacement PIN number can be had for $10 each netting them another $30. It appears this whole ordeal is designed to extort more money. I called the Equifax number furnished by the utility company 800-392-7816 and was told Texas residents have to use CSC for Equifax reports and that is the reason we were not given PIN numbers AND the rep told me to send a copy of my social security card and a copy of my driver's license to yet a different PO Box addressed to CSC for the report. None of the three credit reporting agencies ever asked for these copies. Red Flag Alert! I asked for and received credit reports from Experian and TransUnion and received them without a demand for a PIN number for MY credit report to be sent to me. If you failed to receive your PIN number from Equifax, please complain to the FTC and your state Attorney General's office.

When I tried to call them I got only recordings for different scenarios, none of them pertaining to my need. I listened to each one, which was only a recording and then disconnected me. When I tried to discuss with Equifax by email, it kept telling me I could, if I log in.
