I opened a new bag of Iams mini chunks for my dog. There is something about the shape of the chunks that seems different. I am wondering if the formula/ingredients have changed. My dog became violently ill, vomiting the food mixed with heavy mucus and bile. I took her off the food and put her on rice. She started doing better. After a couple days, I started mixing the Iams back in and now she has terrible diarrhea. Is there a recall? I’m seeing similar posts here. I’ll be switching from the Iams.

I just started giving my dog Iams chicken (green bag) a few months ago. I noticed she was getting constipation/diarrhea. I thought she just had a sensitive stomach. It kept getting worse where I had to be standing outside with my dog for hours for her to have diarrhea and vomit. She lost lots of weight and being lethargic within a week and wouldn't drink any water. I started feeding her chicken and rice for about 5 days and she is already looking fuller and normal. So, Thanks for making my dog so sick. It was hard seeing her go through that... Also wtf are you putting in this food.

So this is my experience. I have two dogs one young Great Dane and a 7 year old pitbull. They both have ended up with severe diarrhea. Uncontrollable diarrhea. Not just one day of it but a whole week of shampooing carpets and cleaning out kennels along with unstoppable trips outside to use the bathroom. It has been a nightmare. At first I thought maybe a stomach flu caught them but nope. I ended up making a huge batch of chicken and rice to feed them for 4 days which made them back to normal. But when I gradually started mixing the dog food back in guess what.... Diarrhea has struck once again. Confirming it is in fact this dog food causing it. I am extremely upset with the fact that this is happening and seeing everyone else's reviews showing we are not the only ones experiencing this. We buy the green bag of Iams.

After our dog randomly kept throwing up and had diarrhea in the house after years of being house trained, we decided to look up reviews on the food we just switched to a couple weeks ago, Iams adult mini chunks chicken. At first it looked like great reviews until I scrolled down. A LOT of people from this year were saying that their dogs had the same problems just randomly and some dogs even passed away. We will be fasting our dog tomorrow and switching her back to normal food. We have a fresh bag we haven’t opened yet. Normally I would sell it or give it to someone who needs it, but I WILL NOT let another fur baby eat this food.

We've been feeding Iams mini chunks since our dogs turned 1. Never had any issues. All 4 of my dogs got sick, seemingly suddenly. The 3rd one to show signs of illness died within 24 hours of symptoms. Low calcium, acidic, low temp (cold to touch), no urine in bladder and kidney failure. The other 3 are vomiting bile, lethargy, and loss of appetite. We were told at the Vets, that it presents like ethylene glycol poisoning. Couldn't prove, no urine for a sample to test for calcium oxalate. Has anyone else had any similar situations??? We are devastated here. I feel helpless and hopeless.

I want to know what is going on with Iams dog food. I normally buy Pedigree or Rachel Ray for my dog. This day the store was out of both so I bought Iams chicken mini chunks. He ate it the next day and was fine. The next day he had diarrhea. I thought maybe he ate something else that made him sick (in the yard). Next day more diarrhea and he hadn’t been in the yard alone. Worried that something is wrong with the dog food. Put it in the trash and got Rachel Ray. Next day back to normal. Something is up. Look at the other reviews here for Iams with the same issues.

Our dog a Kasha a cockapoo, has been eating Iams chicken mini chunks for several years, we noticed a while back that Kasha started licking her paws all the time and drinking lots of water. Kasha would vomit after eating from time to time. We just thought she was eating to fast at times causing her to vomit. We noticed the color change of the dog food as well.

Over the last two weeks Kasha has been vomiting after eating and throughout the day. We took her to the vets and they did test and exam, gave Kasha a IV and a med to stop vomiting for 24 hours. We had to fast Kasha for 12 hours. Then we were told to feed her bland chicken and rice for first day and then if no vomiting start introducing her normal dog food gradually. So after Kasha being on bland diet she did not vomit again, seemed better. On the third day put only a few chunks of Iams dog food in her chicken and rice, after eating she started licking her paws, did not connect the licking to the dog food, so later that day increased Iams dog food to a 25% dog food and 75% chicken and rice. Kasha started drinking more water than normal and licking her paws. Next morning increased Iams mini chunks to a 50%/50% ratio. Right after Kasha eating within minutes 3 big piles of vomit!

The only change made since going to vets was the chicken and rice mix, which by itself Kasha was doing better, until reintroducing her Iams dog food. I suspected the Iams dog food then, but after coming here and reading comment after comment, I now know the Iams is what is making her so sick! This dog food should not be on the store shelves, so many horror stories of dogs being violently sick and dying! I am praying I stopped feeding Kasha this poison in time. As other posters have said the ADA needs to do something now before more dogs are sick and die! Our Kasha is not just a dog. She is our family, our four legged daughter, it breaks our hearts to see her sick! Kasha just turned 5 years old. Hopefully she will have a long life ahead of her.

My prayers and heart goes out to all whose dogs are sick or have died, this could have been avoided if Iams would be honest and take this poison they are selling as dog food off the shelves. We have spent so far $300.00 in vet bills, and Iams dog food big bag just bought is in the garbage, where it belongs! So if you are reading this please don't feed your dog Iams dog food. If you do you are putting your dogs health and life at risk!

We have bought Iams dry dog food for several years. With this last bag of dog food both our German Shepherd and Pomapoo now have diarrhea. We know it's the food because we discontinued it for a few days and their stools returned to normal but upon returning them to Iams they have diarrhea again. Obviously there is something different or wrong with the product and we need to discontinue its use. We aren't the only ones complaining I see.

Do not order this dog food, $1500 in vet bills. I have been ordering Iams puppy through Amazon for over a year. I received this order about 2 weeks ago and within a day my dog became ill. She continued to get worse, throwing up and becoming lethargic. I finally took her to the vet, she had 105-degree fever and was put on an IV. Since it was Saturday we were then sent to the emergency vet for an ultrasound but they found nothing. During the last week, she became stronger and by Friday she looked like she was doing well. I gave her Iams again and for the first time in a week, she felt well enough to eat it. Within a few hours, she vomited it all up and is not doing well again. This food looked different, a darker color than it usually is. I will never buy dog food through Amazon again.

I have 3 Bull Mastiffs. About 2-3 months ago, my husband, bless his heart, switched their food to Pedigree. I wasn't a fan, but financially made sense at the time. One of our females started having grand mal seizures. A 110lb dog having a seizure is a scary thing. I attributed the seizures to topical flea treatment. I never, ever thought that the food could be the culprit. 2 nights ago, she had 4 seizures within an hour. Last night, right after she ate her Pedigree food, she had another. That is when it really started to make sense. The seizures started around the same time he switched them to Pedigree.

My male has had a skin issue (bumps, his face looks like a teenager, itching and scratching almost non stop). He is a brindle and they can be probe to skin issues and allergies. So, we didn't think much about the problems. Took him to the vet where he received a rather large injection of steroids and other medications. Surprisingly, our other female hasn't shown any effects, yet.

I immediately called my husband after the seizure last night and told him I was throwing out all of the Pedigree food and to pick up Iams large breed. I have fed Iams in the past to other pets and was always very pleased. I am happy to report, after just 2 feedings, no seizures. I swear, all three already look better. Their eyes look clear and they seem to have more of a bounce. I will never jeopardize my dogs again due to finances. There are other things in our life we can cut back on. If things had continued and if we had continued to feed that horrible food, I am certain we would have lost one of our girls. Who knows what would have happened to the other two. I know it is early to make a correlation between the food and seizures, but I can't help but be convinced. Thank you Iams.

I purchased Iams small breed dog food on May 25th 2019. By the second time I fed this dog food to my dachshund and my Corgi, my dachshund begin to show signs of distress. I was awakened by her vomiting and severe bloody diarrhea around 3:30 a.m. and by 9 a.m. that morning she was lying in her bed very lethargic. I carried her to the vet. She was dehydrated, severe diarrhea and vomiting. She spent the rest of that day and the next day getting IV fluids and medications. I was very lucky she did not die.

The next day my Corgi started showing the same signs as my dachshund. I started giving her medication prescribed by my vet. She has been very sick with the bloody diarrhea and vomiting. I write this post to warn other pet owners not to purchase Iams dog food. I don't know how this dog food is made but something is toxic to pets. I had to spend $587 in vet bills. I feel like the Iams company should reimburse me for that bill. Plus the purchase at the dog food.

Will never buy IAMS again. It’s the food causing the sickness. I am changing back to the “cheaper” food that kept my dogs poo firm. I want my money back for the huge bag of food I bought, and the money I spent on a brand new area rug because they couldn’t hold themselves from this garbage poison you claim is so amazing. I started feeding my dog Iams Lamb and Rice only because I couldn't afford the regular brand of food I normally get. So I thought I picked the next best option. Within a week of feeding my GSD the food, his eyes became red and swollen and were discharging white pus. He was pacing. My lab was losing weight. Three weeks in and I'm calling the Doc about my GSD eye and some bleeding. Still I didn't put the two things together. Iams and potential problems.

Week four and I picked up a different brand of food. I cooked a home cooked diet also for my dogs. WHAT Happened? Eyes started getting better. Lab started putting weight back on. AHHA! Now it's making sense… I stopped completely. So, without the possiblity of being able to have the Iams food tested, I'm gonna assume that something bad was in the mix. And I won't be using that product again.

However, the Papillon, about 8, is fine. No change in his stool and he eats well as always. So I'm going to gradually change them over to a different dry food to see if the situation clears up. They are spunky and healthy, to people that are starting out on Iams do not settle for other dog foods that have constant recalls due to bad food. Settle for one of the best Iams, also if switching from one food to another you have to give it time and yes your pup will go through some extra potty stops due to change but once your dog eats this food he or she may live to be one of the oldest dogs of their breed as mine will hopefully live till she is 22 yrs old. I saw Iams on special offer and I never got it before for my 12 year old lab. I fed it to him and I noticed his poop changed consistency that night and I thought - he’s a very hardy dog but hmm maybe it’s a bit rich or something because I thought it was a fancy dog food so maybe it’s got extra vitamins and minerals or something. So I keep feeding him with it. Last night he woke me up barking needing the toilet at 4am and he whined all night (he never does that - he sleeps like me). I didn’t link this to Iams yet at that point. I didn’t have any other food so gave him a small portion in the morning.

When I got home my housemate told me he needed extra poop in the day and was barking at the door to get out. (Again he likes to poop only on two walks a day - not in middle of day) So he looked sad when I got home and didn’t wag his tail (he ALWAYS wags his tail when I come in). So at this point I googled “Iams” and found this website but only after I fed him already ??? oh my god - I see some people’s dogs died! Why is this allowed on the shelves when it is clearly contaminated!!! How do we do something??? I just bought all new dog food and sterilized his bowl and I gave him a bit of Pedigree Chum just so he would have something else in his body to soak up whatever rubbish I gave him. My poor baby - if anything happens him because I fed him this poison I will die. 12 years of love every day and he trusts me to feed him properly. What the hell. We have a 4lb Yorkie that's about 1 1/2 yrs old, and we have a beagle that is average size and 7 yrs old. The last few weeks I have noticed the beagle just laying around, no energy. This week, both dogs have thrown up off and on and had diarrhea off and on. This seemed to subside, to the point that I would make a vet appt and then cancel because the dogs would seem to be ok. I thought maybe they ate a mushroom in the yard, etc. The Yorkie got sick again, so I took her to the vet. The vet ran late, took x-rays, etc., and she could not find anything wrong. She ended up getting fluids, antibiotic and a probiotic. The vet mentioned that perhaps we got a bad batch of dog food.

I started wondering if the food was making both dogs sick. I actually had a brand new bag, so I threw away the old bag and sanitized their food bowls, and poured them a fresh bowl, and the dogs wouldn't go near it. However, they were clearly hungry, like REALLY hungry. That's when I googled Iams recalls and saw so many stories just like mine. I went to PetSmart and told the gal what was going on, and she set me up with a new dog food. Sure enough, both dogs absolutely DEMOLISHED that food bowl. I do believe that there is something wrong with the food that was making both of my dogs sick and I feel incredibly grateful that I didn't lose one or both of my dogs. Please, if your dog gets sick, take it seriously and immediately stop giving them this food.

My dogs have exclusively eaten Iams Adult Mini Chunks for the past year and a half. I bought a medium sized bag at a Kroger in West Knoxville, Tennessee, in the beginning of August. My dogs ate the food fine for the first feeding, but the next morning they woke up extremely sick. They had diarrhea, and were vomiting food, dark liquid, foam and spit at different points throughout the day. I thought maybe they had gotten into the trash or something so I fed them chicken and rice until they recovered. I fed them from the bag and the same thing happened again.

I decided to go through the bag of food and found that the kibble at the bottom of the bag was covered in a strange greenish white substance, it was dry but it wasn’t a powder. It smelled strange and almost looked like mold or a chemical. It took 3 days for my dogs to recover from the second feeding of the tainted food. I thought I was going to lose my pups. They both lost a significant amount of weight from all the bowel movements and vomiting. We are still working on getting the weight back. I’m absolutely sickened that all these people are reporting a similar experience but there is no recall that I’ve seen. Shame on Iams.

I fed him only pumpkin for a couple of meals and his stool improved but when I mixed it with the kibble the diarrhea returned. Then I fed him white rice and pumpkin at his evening meal and it stopped the diarrhea by the morning. I believe there is something wrong with the kibble. He is not prone to stomach issues.

She didn’t want to eat it but when she did the diarrhea was horrible. I knew immediately it must be the food so I stopped giving it to her and went out and got some Beneful. About a week later my 2 cats got into the bag of Iams and I knew immediately because the litter box had the same dark liquid poop that my dog had been expelling. How is this even legal?? Iams is poison! They could have killed my baby!! I don’t know what I would have done if something happened to her. I see stories on here of people whose fur babies actually died!!! Thank God I stopped giving this poison to my dog!!

Recently we had to switch our dogs' dog food to Iams because they didn’t have the type you usually bought. The first day we switched the dog food our chihuahua (6yo), Pomeranian (8yo), and terrier (5yo) all were throwing up all day and had horrible watery diarrhea. Today, my little Annie died, she was just 11 months old too. She had horrible diarrhea to where she was bleeding, shaking uncontrollably, vomiting, then started refusing food. So, my mom started to research what was going on. Apparently, a lot of people have had the same experience. When we found out though... it was too late even though she only ate the dog food a few times, we just got the food. Just the other day she was running around, happy as could be greeting everyone. Now, she is passed and I can never have her back.

My mom called to complain (like others have) and you know what they did? They offered her, her money back? You think someone who lost their best friend wants their money back? Why don’t you take Iams off of the shelf instead of making a profit off of it, knowing it can kill/harm animals. Your food is supposed to help animals, keep them alive with nutrients they need. Not poison them.

Please, please, please do not feed this food to your pet!!! I lost my 11 month old puppy, Annie, last night to this food within a week of feeding this food to her. The store did not have my usual brand, so I purchased what I thought was a quality-comparable brand. I am so mad at myself for not making the effort to go to a different store. I have other dogs and every single one of them threw up and had diarrhea. They started throwing up the day I started feeding them this food. My life was and still is a nightmare. Symptoms: Vomiting, horrible diarrhea, lethargy. My puppy ended up with bloody diarrhea.

We tried to save Annie. She was hospitalized, on an IV, but could not pull through. Our vet said she has never seen something happen this fast. They even checked to ensure she didn't have Parvo because she was in such dire shape. Our vet said that it is likely Annie didn't pull through like our other dogs did because her immune system was not developed enough to fight.

I called Iams and the rep was pleasant enough. However, please note that they do NOT read these reviews posted here. I was told the reviews are "TAKEN WITH A GRAIN OF SALT" since they are only posted when customers are dissatisfied. So PLEASE CALL! So Iams wants to send me a check to cover the bag of food that killed my little girl. I refused. I never, ever want anything to do with this company again and do not want to see their name show up in my mailbox. The number I called was 1.800.525.4267. I am so devastated right now. We decided to buy our dogs what we thought was a higher quality dog food. We purchased Iams Proactive Health MiniChunks, Chicken. Both of our dogs didn't seem to be particularly be interested in the dog food but did eventually eat it. I did notice that they did not eat as normal but picked at the food. Within 2 days of eating this food, both our dogs had such horrible diarrhea that by the time we got up to let them outside, they were losing stool as they walked. I left it another day, not thinking it was the food until both dogs became lethargic, they were just laying around and not really acting like themselves...

So I immediately did a research to see if Iams Dog food had been recalled. I found this site, I am so glad I did. I took up all the dog food and began feeding them boiled chicken and rice with some chicken broth. They are still on this diet as I write this review. Both are recuperating and doing better since taking them off the IAMS. I don't understand why Iams would not pull this product since there are so many similar problems. I recently had to buy a different brand of dog food after the store was out of the normal Beneful, I fed her. I chose the more expensive Iams green Healthy Bites, being cautious to not get anything that could make her sick, given the recent food recalls. She ate it just fine for about two weeks, 1 cup in the morning and one in the evening, when I got home from work one evening I noticed she had not finished her morning food, this NEVER happens as she is quick to eat it up in minutes, immediately I knew something was wrong so I went out and bought her some of her regular brand food.

After eating just half of that bowl that evening I knew something bad was going on, I took her outside and she threw up the new food I had just bought, unable to keep anything down, I then started thinking of any bowels out of the ordinary since eating the Iams, and they were regular but very dark and smelly, and on this last day when she threw up it had been soft almost runny...and she became very lethargic and hiding in the closet, and not wanting to come out, this is a playful dog, not at all the norm.

The next morning I took her into the vet, as I noticed others posting as well, all her labs came back clear but her temp had risen to 103 degrees, I mentioned all the feedback on this site to my vet, most certain after reading these reviews that this was another case of BAD food, two days and slowly recovering she is still at the vet, but please, I caught it early with symptoms, and googling these warnings, please quit feeding your dog IAMS before it's too late, and never introduce it back into their diet when you get them back home...this stuff is NO GOOD!!!

Thinking all is well started feeding her Iams adult (green bag) dog food again few weeks ago and again it started. More mash antibiotic. I changed to many other brands. With trial and error discovered she can't eat grain fillers no more. Developed food allergies. Checking Iams past ingredients to now. They changed it right at time she started not acting normal. 3 years I poisoned my dog and thousands of dollars later. I thought I was feeding my dog premium food when premium is just another fancy misleading word dog food bags are using. Stay away. My sweet Papillion passed away recently unexpectedly. She suffered greatly before it dawned on me that she may have been poisoned. The last couple of days she hid in my closet to sleep. Before I suspected anything was wrong on Saturday night she collapsed in the front room and could not use her front legs. Recently moved, I did not know after hour clinics in the area. She seemed to be in no pain. I thought that things would improve after reading on the internet. I put her in my Master Bath by my bed so that I could monitor her. By the middle of the night she was in agony when I got up to check on her. She was trying to get up by walking on back legs while dragging her head and front end on the floor.

She threw up slime and dog food many times. Then the bowels came with frightening red clots of blood. By Sunday morning I had found an after hour vet to see her. She was in a state of complete paralysis at this time and only had slight blinking. The vet said that when they bleed like that with her symptoms it is usually a poisoning. I promised Minnie that if she survived by that morning I would not let her suffer another minute. The vet put her down for me. The next couple of days my remaining Yorkie had stopped eating her Iams Proactive Health Minichunks. I thought that she was just grieving the loss of MinnieMeg. She cried constantly but still could be at my side at all times.

About a week after the death I realized that I had not had to add any food to her bowl. I purchased some canned food to top off her Iams. She would eat a little of the can food and spit out any Iams that was attached. I thought that I would look up the food on the internet that they had both eaten and found this site of consumer complaints of this dog food and how others had passed on it with bleeding and all the other symptoms. Now I am convinced that this food may have been tainted since many others had the same experience. I would like to know why this food has not been recalled with all these experiences. My dog was 13 years old and had many more loving years to live. I am sick about this and if my story helps another dog owner, it is worth it to write about it. I pray that my Yorkie doesn't suffer the same in the days to come.

Within a few days he stopped eating and would refuse the food until the end of the day. Thursday he wouldn't touch it at all. He finally ate yesterday morning after I left for work. He vomited all over my bed! More than just his morning's feeding. Plus many spots where he must have ran out of chunks and only vomited liquid. Poor doggy was sick all day while we were at work (our mattress is ruined since it soaked in it all day). We took him to the vet and his exam was fine, the vet said the food was probably bad and gave us a prescription gastro food to help him feel better. I am returning the bag to Sam's club asap.

My husband and I came home from work to a bunch of blood plus several other piles of vomit.

After a trip to the emergency vet they couldn’t find anything wrong in his blood work but he clearly was sick. When I got home I realized the only other thing it could be was his dog food, I bought a new bag the same time he started his meds. My first Aussie (rescue) lived to be 13, and died from lung cancer, my second only lived until 6 1/2 because of a genetic heart condition.

My first Aussie ate IAMS for the nine years we had him, and our second from the time he was eight weeks old. My Doxie is a rescue, and has been eating IAMS for twelve years and my eighteen year old, who I rescued when she was fifteen, has been eating IAMS since she came home over three years ago. It's hard to determine what caused the illnesses and deaths of these babies. Is it possible that the food had been contaminated some way? I only read a few of the #1 reviews and they seemed to be close in date. But that could be just a coincidence. I highly recommend IAMS, because I have had great success with it.

On May 12, 2018, my 1 1/2 year old yellow Lab “Ruger”, started having diarrhea, vomiting and became very lethargic. Not normal diarrhea either. It shot straight out like a hose and was nothing but water. I will note that on May 4, 2018 (just 1 week prior), Ruger was seen by his vet for his routine annual checkup and was deemed an extremely healthy 93 lb Lab. Now fast forward a week, on May 13, 2018, Ruger began drooling out both sides his mouth and trembling terribly. So at 10:30 pm my husband and I rushed Ruger to the nearest animal 24 hour ER, an hour and 15 minutes away. Ruger had a fever of 105.9. The vet said 105.9 is extremely dangerous and 106 is deadly so he wanted to keep Ruger overnight and give him fluids and keep an eye on him all night.

His blood test showed his liver panel was high. They began giving him 4 different medications. 24 hours later we were able to bring Ruger home but had to continue giving him the meds and try to ease him back into eating with boiled hamburger and rice. It took 1 week for Ruger to start acting better. He continued throwing up for several days after coming home. Just last night, May 17th, we agreed that he is just now finally acting himself again, as far as behavior goes. He is still underweight and we are still easing him back into eating dog food.

During that time, we noticed that our 5 year old Cairn Terrier, Remi, had stopped eating for us and instead pushed bowl across the room and tried to spill it and bury it every time we fed him. We began questioning the IAMS Mini Chunks because prior to switching them to IAMS last month, they were both very eager eaters. That’s when I began researching and discovered many others have experienced this same issue. We now feed our dogs Nutro and I refuse to ever feed them IAMS ever again. Something needs to be done! We almost lost our baby that night and we still struggle with knowing he was poisoned by us feeding him IAMS. Dogs know. They could sense something was wrong with that food. Please do not feed your dogs IAMS and be vigilant of their eating and behavior. If it seems off, look into it right away!!!

This past Monday I came home from work and what was once a 5 y/o healthy black lab was lying in my yard deceased. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever been a part of. I was unsure of what caused his untimely death, until the following evening: Tuesday May 15th. My wife and I had come home from dinner after the long 24 hours that we had. Well we have two other dogs and they are both Mini Aussies, usually our Aussies roam the house while we are gone and don't have any accidents or any behavioral issues, except for the past week or so our dogs have both had diarrhea, so the dogs were in their cage. We unlocked the door and immediately smelled the foul stench that all pet owners know and dread when they open the door, the dogs had vomited and had diarrhea all in their cage to where they were both covered in the mixture of the two.

After washing the dogs I let them outside to use the bathroom and my smaller mini Aussie was defecating and throwing up at the same time and the other Aussie had diarrhea so bad that she was bleeding from her anus. So at this point I'm wondering if it could've been the food that caused my Labs untimely death and start googling when I come across this site and realize that several other pet owners have had the same issues that I have had the past couple of days including death of their loved ones. I contacted Iams today and after explaining everything that had occurred in the past 72 hours the woman on the phone Kindly offered me my money back for my $30 bag of dog food. I then proceeded to lost my composure at the thought of their food possibly causing my dog's death was only equivalent to a free 30lb bag of dog food.

I told the nice woman that I wasn't sure what was good enough or what was acceptable for them to do for my loss but I'm not interested in a free bag of dog food. I really would like them to be aware and for other pet owners to be aware that this food is out there and at the very least is making dogs very sick. (I should mention all three of my dogs have been fed Iams pro-life mini chunks for the past three years). I want everyone that is experiencing even the slightest scare with their dogs eating Iams to call the company and complain. The woman on the phone said that there hasn’t been a trend to make them think that their dog food is contaminated or an endangerment to your loved ones. I know you guys are out there so please please call and let’s get a recall on this food and prevent anyone else from experiencing the heartache that I have this week. 1-800-675-3849.

I was on autoship from petco.com. On March 31 I opened a new bag & both dogs became immediately sick vomiting, having diarrhea that quickly turned into bloody diarrhea within a few days. My poor Beagle began pooping straight blood (no poop, just blood). I rushed them to the vet who did blood work & fecal tests & both pups had negative results, healthy dogs. The vet said it's their kibble & to stop it.

I had already stopped the kibble when they got sick & started them on bland diet (chicken & rice). But they were still sick & continued to get worse. The vet diagnosed them with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, which is fatal for dogs if left untreated. He said the inflammation/infection would have continued until they saw him & were prescribed medications. The first round of meds only worked while they were on them. Once the meds stopped the symptoms returned. They were on meds for the entire month of April. They have been off the meds for about a week now & so far the vomiting & diarrhea have not returned. They are not 100% normal yet. They are still on a chicken & rice diet for now. Total vet bills are $1100 to date plus time lost from work & life to care for 2 sick dogs plus plus plus.

I called Iams to make a complaint. I was told someone from their health & safety team would contact me to work things out with my vet; of course my phone never rang. They did send me a check for a whopping $32 for the cost of food with a letter saying sorry for the inconvenience. It's sad to be devoted customers for several years & Iams genuinely doesn't give a crap about their customers or our pets. I begin feeding my 12-year-old male dog Iams Senior 2 months ago thinking I was giving him a better food at his age. I didn't notice -- probably because of his age that he was becoming less active and of recent, lethargic, limping, loss of strength in his back legs and then on Friday, May 4, begin high-stepping and acting like he was having neurological issues. It was so bad that the next day before we took him to the vet we were prepared to put him down. The vet could not find anything wrong with him and we thought it was just arthritis and age that was creating this issue.

He was having problems with constipation with the Iams food so I started to switch him back to his old food with more fiber just before his decline in health. From Friday to Sunday I had him switched back to his old food. Sunday morning when we woke up he was acting more like himself. By Sunday afternoon after having his breakfast of his new food he was actually running around outside with no issues to his hind legs or limping. This morning I heard a noise at 5 AM and he had broken through the gate and was heading upstairs to find me. This was a dog that could not hold himself up to days before, fell down when he tried to go to the bathroom, could not balance at all and did not want to get up.

Since I switched him to his new food he is now acting more like himself that he has over the last couple of months. I have to think that the Senior food was the cause of his illness/decline in health. I have a puppy on Iams Large Breed Puppy Food and will be switching him from that when he returns from the trainer next week. I will never feed Iams again.

She has not had anything else that could have caused it. I took her to the vet after 5 days of terrible runny diarrhea, and vomiting, and very sickly and racked my brain over what could have caused this. Came to the conclusion after her stool was checked that it has to be the food. She had no worms in her stool and no other illnesses. It's like she was poisoned. And it's just me and her nobody to poison her. And I don't take any medication like some people I read drop and dog eats. Not in my case. There is nothing she could have eaten, just her food.

She is healthy as a horse normally. I will not be feeding her anymore Iams. It was great for years, but not this past batch. She's not out of the woods yet. I thought we were going to lose her. She lost 2.5 pounds in less than a week. Which is about 25 to 30 pounds for a human. Since she is a Chihuahua, I have researched and found out. Please take this food off the shelves. It is dangerous to dogs. I'm not a one-time case. There is over 800 on another website. Over 118 cases in past few weeks' time. And that's just the people who took the time to put a very helpful comment/review/complaint, up to help others who feed this food to their loved pets. There is no telling how many pets have suffered from this food eating their stomachs up on the inside. Vet prescribed 2 different meds for her and changed her food. Week 2 and she is better and stools are harder. Hoping and praying for the best.

Please watch your pets closely and if you are feeding them Iams in green bag. Please stop. My bag was purchased in FL, April, 2018 from Publix. I opened it recently. I poured it out in big bucket to look through it thinking maybe there was some dead rat or other dead animal in it or something. Nothing. Looks normal but, IT'S NOT NORMAL. IT POISON... At least my bag was, and over 800 on another site. Not counting the unreported cases. Not just FL. Other states as well.

IAMS Healthy Naturals Weight Chicken Flavored Dry Dog Food is the Dog Food we have been feeding our Beagle starting in January 2018 till now. But today I am throwing away his unfinished bag! Dogs cannot talk to you about what they are eating. They trust in you that you will feed them something they will love and that won't make them sick. Our Beagle at first would eat his Iams Dog food, but as time went on, he stopped eating out of his bowl altogether, just only when he was hungry and didn't have anything better to eat. He would smell it, and then walk away. Beagles have such a good sense of smell, that this should be telling you something right? Bless his little heart. He had some of the same symptoms: Drinking lots of water all day, getting sick on the carpet, licking my hands for salt, etc... Please get rid of your Iams Dogfood. Our dogs don't deserve this!

My dog suddenly started getting sick at the end of March... We usually don’t buy Iams, but we bought a small bag due to store being out of his normal dog food, and over $1000 in vet bills. I am sorry I did. My dog started limping and developed swelling on his leg and diarrhea - after x-rays, blood work, and 3 vet visits we have narrowed it down to IAMS. We actually thought maybe it was our regular dog food, so we threw that out and bought IAMS again (at the time we hadn’t put two and two together because he had such a small amount before - and it completely slipped my mind he had even ate IAMS before he was sick). He finally started eating again (had him on chicken and rice) and was seeming to be getting better so we mixed his soft food along with IAMS and he is back to how he was before the $1000 vet bill. Something is clearly wrong with this food and I hope I can find out what that is with testing of the actual food.

We recently purchased Iams dog food because we thought we were upgrading his food. Little did we know we purchased food that we feel caused his death. He began having leg weakness one day to where he could hardly walk. Days later we noticed him being lethargic followed with vomiting and diarrhea. He got to the point where he would not touch his dog food. Took him to the vet this past Tuesday. He was running a fever, had severely low blood counts and an enlarged spleen. We let the vet keep Bodie overnight to monitor him. He stayed with the vet Wed. Night as well.

Got a call early Thursday morning that our beloved Bodie died. I couldn't understand why or how. Decided to google if Iams caused spleen issues, which led me to this website. I am sick to my stomach with all the reviews of Iams dog food. It disgusts me that there has been NO recall! I have thrown out the remaining Iams that I had and pray that my other dogs do not get sick. I plan to take them for routine bloodwork to make sure they were not affected by this toxic brand. Our dog nearly died while on a diet of Iams Dog Food. She was four years old and positively on the verge of death after three days of intestinal upset, lethargy, and ultimately, the inability to wake up. She was diagnosed with Salmonella poisoning. We were more than confused considering there was no way she could have gotten hold of anything with Salmonella. She was put on antibiotics and got better, but each time she finished her medicine, she rapidly declined. She began limping, but X-rays showed that she had no injuries.

After three months of being on and off antibiotics, each time getting better and then declining when the medicine was complete, and after thousands of dollars and countless tests, the veterinary hospital sent a new series of blood tests to an external lab. They discovered that she had a staph infection somewhere inside of her body. Zeroing in on her leg and foot, on which she continued to limp, a staff infection was discovered in several of her toes, and they had to be amputated. About this same time, I heard on the news that Iams was being recalled due to Salmonella contamination. The vet confirmed that the dog food was most likely the cause of the original diagnosis, which led to a suppressed immune system, thus leading to the staph infection.

Two years later, at the age of six, she was diagnosed with a type of heart condition that is commonly caused by a prior infection that traveled through the bloodstream to her heart. The canine cardiologist said that the series of events she suffered two years before were more than likely the cause of the heart condition. Misty is now on two different heart medications. She seems to be a happy, healthy dog, but the cardiologist says that she can have a fatal heart attack at any moment.

I have been feeling my four dogs Iams dry dog food for 5 to 6 years. I give three of them Iams senior plus dry dog food and one Iams proactive dry dog food. I bought a brand new bag last Friday and proceeded to feed my dogs. Within hours, one dog had diarrhea all over the entire house. We were gone and came home to this. It was unbelievable that one dog could’ve done what she did. Immediately started feeding her a bland homemade diet & things settled down. I had no idea at that point that it was the food, I just assumed she’d gotten into something. All of my dogs are primarily indoor dogs and are outside on occasion. The chances of her getting into something would’ve been minimal. The other three dogs seemed to be fine. She was fine for two days until by accident my son fed her the dry dog food again unbeknownst to me. Sure enough in the wee hours of the morning, again diarrhea all over the house.

Long story short, I ended up taking her to the vet first thing Monday morning and all of her bloodwork was normal. Her stool sample Showed high levels of bacteria. They gave her a shot and put her on an antibiotic and she has recovered nicely. I started questioning whether it was the food but didn’t really say anything to my vet about the food. My vet bill was $245. I had my carpeting cleaned the next day to the tune of $350. In the wee hours of that next day, my larger dog who is three times as big as the first dog had diarrhea on my clean carpet.

The vet said it definitely was the food & to discontinue that food with all of my dogs and to take the food back. Not only did I take the food back to where I purchased it but I called Iams customer service number. They seemed very concerned and somebody was supposed to call me back to get my vet information but I still have not heard back from them and it’s been four days. I’m very disappointed in Iams but after reviewing dry dog foods I see that they are really not even on the list of preferred dry dog food anymore. Apparently their quality has gone downhill. I have chosen to take my other dog off of the Iams proactive as well. I am feeding all of my dogs homemade meals right now until I can decide which dry dog food to purchase. Beware of Iams dog food right now!

I noticed her stools becoming very soft and she was going to the bathroom a lot on our walks. Then, diarrhea started and accidents. She also had been turning her nose up at the food, but we thought she wanted rice or something mixed in. She was smarter than we were, but finally, after she got worse...and after carpet cleaning, vet bill, lost work time, medicine, special diet and food we realized it had to be the dog food. Her samples came back negative for anything else. Reading these other accounts, I see we are not alone. At least our dog survived thank heavens and my heart goes out to those who lost their pets. There should be a class-action case against the company that makes IAMS.

I cannot find an address on the MARS website but I will be sending their legal dept a stern letter and invoices, copying the FDA and possibly the TODAY show and other media. There needs to be a recall and a case brought against them. I did find a media number within US: Denise Young at 1-973-691-3536 and Leslie Brams-Baker at 1-905-857-5780 in Canada. We've been feeding our dogs the Iams Lamb & Rice (Red Bag) formula dog food for years and have been happy with the product UNTIL the middle of last year when Iams made an unannounced change to their formula. We originally switched to Iams because of a sensitivity to corn. Our veterinarian recommended switching to lamb & rice to cure a variety of skin problems our dogs were exhibiting. Over the past several months the skin (and other more serious) issues have returned. Dandruff, scaly patches of skin, balding patches on ears, incessant panting, increased flatulence, bad breath, wheezing, one dog even exhibiting signs of dementia with two visits to the veterinarian. It's taken us a long time to figure out why. Nothing changed except their diet.

By accident we've discovered that the unannounced formula change now shows lamb and brown rice as the fifth and sixth ingredients on the packaging, topped by Chicken and Corn. We noticed no other change to the packaging except the ingredients list which, whoever reads that when using a trusted product which has worked for years. NO MORE IAMS in this house.

I started to think back for a while and I know that every time he would eat he would always go outside to eat grass like something was bothering him. I never thought about it until now that my dog is sick.

I took him to the vet and did x rays and it looks like a string is in his intestines so he stayed all day getting fluids to try to flush his system. He came home and I gave him chicken and rice for 3 days and he was doing better. Yesterday I decided to give him his Iams food again and he didn't even get it down and he threw it up. I decided to examine it and I found what looked to be little pieces of sticks in it and my dog hasn't been outside to eat sticks. I stop the food and started him back on his chicken and rice. I also wanted to say that also he would rub his face a lot like it bothered him. I will not give my babies this food anymore. I too bought mine from Walmart here in Boiling Springs South Carolina. I will keep my bag so that if they recall it I will have as proof.

This is my copy and pasted documentation: We’ve been feeding Iams for a while now. In September, 2017, I had purchased a bag of Iams from the WalMart store in LaGrande, Oregon, September 2017, and noticed problems following this bag of food to begin with, but didn’t think it was the dog food. On October 19th, 2017, Matilda had weird seizures and threw up a lot, but finally calmed down with soft foods. She threw up a lot of water also and bile. On November 15th, 2017 Agatha did some throw-up and didn’t want to jump up or run very well. I kept working with her and she kinda came out of it. She stopped eating the Iams completely. I had to feed her boiled chicken and rice. Water intake was huge.

In November 15th, 2017 Walmart Order #**, (have bag still, waiting for Lab results, with all info dates on bag) received November 20th, 2017, Iams Proactive Health Adult Mini Chunks Dry Dog Food 40 Pounds, $37.73. December 2017, noticed both Toy Aussies, Agatha and Rosetta had not been eating as much as usual and turned their nose up at the food immediately, when dish was stirred. Matilda backed off also, but did eat some on occasion and gained a lot of weight throughout January 2018. January 27th, 2018, Agatha was off again, such as she was before. She threw up all food intake and water intake. She drank like she couldn’t get enough fluids.

Late evening, she went into seizures. The seizures were 15 to 30 seconds apart, for 4 ½ hrs. Ended up at Vets office at midnight. Vet documented. February 4th, she continued with little seizures and finally things calmed down with seizure meds, but not 100%. February 12th, 2018, Rosetta became off, just like Agatha did, but more severe. Threw up everything, lots of bile. Would drink water and throw it right back up in less than a minute. Called Vet on call. He suggested to only let her have little amounts of water and once again boiled chicken and cooked rice. She got better and it stopped. February 24th, 2018 it started all over again. All the above repeated again. This time, it didn’t go away. Rushed her to the Vet February 26th, 2018. Ended up doing Emergency soft tissue surgery. Video is available upon request.

February 12th, 2018 started new dog food, as everything we had investigated, pointed back to the Iams dog food. Ended up prior to this, feeding only boiled chicken and cooked rice. March 6, 2018 Agatha ended up having Soft Tissue Surgery. Hers was less severe than Rosetta’s. Picture of proof upon request. March 6, 2018 Matilda starting throwing up food and water to. I rushed her in to be examined. Stomach lining was irritated, even though she was on new food. Calmed stomach down, by not feeding her for 24 hrs. Started with soft food and sensitive Hills Science Diet dry food. Knock on wood, all okay for now. This is very disturbing, that Mars Petcare won't even listen to the customer! I want to help make a difference for the health of everyone's fur babies!

He was given I/D brand food because of his pancreatitis. Then I switched him back to IAMS. He has not been eating much at all since then. Turns his nose up at it. I have to add wet food to get him to eat. Can’t believe I have been forcing my dog to eat poison!!! He actually ate 4-5 cups of IAMS which gave him the pancreatitis. Now I know it wasn’t the overeating but the food itself. He has still been very sick, drinking profusely, and having accidents in the house. He was on an antibiotic for over a month so maybe that kept him alive. I just cannot believe this food is still on the market. Please post on social media as I have done!!!

We have been feeding our Brittany Spaniel IAMS mini chunks (green bag) for about a year. In January after buying a new bag of food our dog had an episode of vomiting and diarrhea which smelled atrocious. We had to dispose of bedding and deep clean the room to remove the smell. Since then I've noticed he has been eating grass more than usual.

Last Friday, I purchased two new bags of the same food and my dog initially turned his nose up at the food in the morning and didn't want to eat it. He never usually rejects his food but I didn't think much of it at the time and didn't offer him an alternative or take it away so he later ate it. When I came home from work, my dog had had vomiting and diarrhea again. He was very out of sorts, wouldn't eat and at one point his hind legs were shaky. I called the vet and got some advice which I followed.

It's now Sunday and he's still off his food and having diarrhea. I believe my dog could tell the food was not good hence his initial rejection of it. He never rejects his food normally. I have concluded that the food is causing his illness and will not be giving him IAMS again. I am very thankful to those people who have written reviews sharing their similar experiences and concerns which helped me reach the decision to stop the IAMS, hopefully before any serious issues have been caused. Hoping all pooches will get well soon and so sorry to hear of some of the losses here.

I will be contacting IAMS with my concerns also. I am only giving one star because there is no option for zero stars. I find it incredible and irresponsible that no recall has been issued by IAMS in light of the seriousness of these reports. If you are reading this and have similar concerns, please take the time to post a review and document your experience here as it might help ensure no harmful product gets to the shelves.

I have not been able to explain the increased flatulence the last month in my dogs, as well as my older dog lethargic and wheezing as if sick, and the younger dog randomly throwing up and licking excessively. My dogs had check ups last summer and were in fine health. We have use Iams for a long time with no trouble in our other dogs so far but I have begun to wonder if Iams had created a new recipe, ruling out any other new things. After finding the complaints here about Iams I feel it must be the logical suspect and particularly because symptoms described here are very similar to what I am observing in my dogs.

We had used Iams for over 10 years, on our Chow mix, our Chihuahua, and our Lab. In 2009 our Chow mix was diagnosed with melanoma cancer. Although we had the tumor removed, the cancer returned and we had to put him down in 2010. We had given our Lab to our daughter and her husband, who continued to feed her Iams. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with cancer after numerous mast cell tumors were removed from one of her legs. Two surgeries later to remove more tumors, and the cancer has returned with a vengeance, and they are just playing the waiting game until the dog begins to show signs of pain and needs to be put down.

In November of 2016, a tumor appeared on our Chihuahua, which was biopsied and also turned out to be cancerous and was inoperable. We put her down in May, 2017. Now tumors have appeared in my son's Lab/Rottweiler mix, who was also fed Iams her entire life, although he has not had a biopsy done yet to determine if the tumors are cancerous. One of his other dogs, however, was losing hair, and once the dog was transitioned off Iams and onto a different food, his hair has grown back. I am not saying that Iams dog food was the cause of the cancer in 3 dogs, possibly 4, within our immediate family, but it was too much of a coincidence for us to continue feeding this food to our dogs that we love so dearly.

We have been feeding our dog Iams for about a year now but when we bought the last bag a few weeks ago our dog started acting very lethargic. She is normally a very playful dog and use to get so excited when we come home, but last week she was just laying around and kept her tail between her legs. I took her to the vet and she did have a light fever but otherwise healthy. We switched her to wet food for 3 days and she started to act like herself again. I then tried to start her back on dry food and after just one day of this she was starting to act lethargic again.

I mentioned to my husband it may be her food, I don’t know why but I just got a feeling since she would kind of turn her nose up at it. I also noticed the Iams food was two different colors. I started doing some research to see if anyone else has had this problem and came across all these comments of other people’s dogs having the same problem! I will NEVER buy Iams dog food again! I am so upset that this company has done something to their food that is harming pets! I will be contacting the company as soon as I can!

I Googled his behavior which is a sign of tummy ache so I gave him a piece of white bread good if maybe something stuck In bowl and some plain yogurt and activist and swallowed ok but wanted to eat grass from outside in snow now acts better... maybe God's plan to find this web page. My dogs don't like Iams too much but this after one bowl... I am gonna have to find a dry that is heavier. I try to cook and do healthy snacks of cooked meats and veggies and tried raw but could not get stools stable. Not sure what to do as so much else is worst than Iams and Blue.

They turn noses away and gives diarrhea and some can of dog food do the same diarrhea. I think there is just no quality management or detection of bad spoiled batches. Whatever the cost I just need want some "Cheerios" i.e. Basic food for my dog friends whom we have made helpless and dependent on us to survive. I spied shots and flea/heart pills when my healthy happy young beagle died within weeks from lymphoma. Could have been round up I used years before but likely not as every time he took flea heart pills he was weak lethargic...

I have been feeding my 10 year old Yorkie Iams Proactive Adult for years. About a month ago, after opening a new bag of multi-colored Iams proactive, he became lethargic and was defecating bloody stool. I took him to the vet, she put him on a special diet for a week and he seemed to get better. I then put him back on the Iams mature adult. He became lethargic once again, had trouble coming in from outside; coming up one step, had muscle weakness, a distended tummy and once again, bloody diarrhea. He had labored breathing and passed away in my arms on the morning of December 31, 2017. We are shocked and devastated, as prior to eating this dog food, he was perfectly healthy and we expected him to live many more healthy years. I am so sad at his loss. It is with a broken, heavy heart that I write that my dog, Chewbacca, is dead. He was my friend, my constant companion, and now he is gone. I have always known my dog to be healthy, energetic, and spunky. He was always alert and ready to play. The only time he ever needed to go to the vet was for checkups and his routine shots. That is, until recently. A few weeks ago, I began giving him dog food from a new 30 lb. bag of IAMS Proactive Health Mini Chunks two tone kibble. A week and a half later, he became violently sick. He began breathing very heavily and seemed as though he was choking or couldn't catch his breath directly after eating his meals. He would vomit and then poop all at the same time. He became lethargic and looked scared.

When he wasn't experiencing these symptoms, I noticed that he would constantly lick his paws, which I thought was strange and out of character for him. My first thought was that he had eaten something and his body was trying to get rid of it. I thought perhaps he was having an allergic reaction? I never fed him people food and the only change I had made in his diet was opening a new bag of IAMS Proactive Health Mini Chunks two tone kibble.

After he had another episode like the first, I knew this was more than a fluke and I took him off the dog food. I began looking into this particular line of IAMS Dog Food. I wanted to see if any other dogs were experiencing the same symptoms as my dog after eating the IAMS Dog Food. While looking up reviews online, I was horrified to find that hundreds of other families' dogs were experiencing the exact same symptoms and more! Because I was so worried about the health of my dog, I brought him in to be checked by the vet. The vet checked his heart and lungs and was unable to give me a diagnosis, so I brought my dog home. Within another week's time, my dog was dead.

Following my dog's passing, I've researched this dog food even more. IAMS had changed their recipe and something was and still is horribly wrong with it. Why is this dog food still on the shelves?!? I had always thought IAMS was a reputable company. They have advertised with "satisfaction 100% or your money back..." Are they able to bring my dog back? My dog is dead! This dog food needs to be removed from the shelves immediately and tested to find out why so many dogs are getting violently sick and some dying! It is illegal to sell contaminated food!!! Why is IAMS being so negligent, after there have been so many complaints, in not making sure their food is not tainted in any way? They should be recalling this food.

If your dog is getting sick after eating the IAMS Food, please contact the FDA and the USDA and most importantly call IAMS and let them know. Hang onto the dog food and the bag's bar code, lot number, and expiration date so that it can be tested. The bar code on the bag I have is: 0 1901470071 4. The expiration date is: Feb. 09 2019. The lot number is: 741F 20HL 02 04:56.

I ask the IAMS company (owned by Mars, Inc.): How many more dogs are going to become violently sick and die before you take responsibility and accountability for what you are doing to our fur babies? There is something horribly wrong with this food and it needs to be recalled and tested! I wish I would have known sooner, so that I could have switched my dog's food. Now I live with the knowledge that I gave my dog Chewbacca this food, a food that ultimately took his life. I will never ever buy another IAMS product again.

Our 10 year old GSP (Sasha) is dead and it appears to only have taken a half a bag of Iams dog food to get it done. We decided to switch dog food on December 10, 2017 and chose Iams because we thought it would be a better dog food for Sasha and our 7 month old GSP puppy. After only a couple of days feeding Iams Sasha got sick and vomited all over our bedroom. On Christmas eve she got violently ill, unable to stand and barely able to breathe. This lasted a few hours until she finally was able to stand. She then vomited all the Iams food up that she had been fed several hours earlier. It was all whole and undigested. She managed to go outside to relieve herself and when she did it was red and blood soaked. We got her to the vet as soon as possible, she was put on antibiotics and had blood-work done. She was a little better for a day then once again she got so sick, falling over, breathing real shallow and so close to death and suffering.

Sasha managed once again to avoid death and slowly get somewhat better. The next morning after feeding Iams to our puppy (KC-Wee) a few hours later she started vomiting and became very weak. It was then that we figured out it had to be the Iams dog food. After Googling we found this site and seeing others having the same issues we immediately stopped feeding Iams, but it was too late for Sasha. That night once again she got so sick and died on the couch in my husband's arms. KC has been getting better slowly and all we did was take the Iams away. Like the others have said it was the light and dark brown dog food We called Iams and they told us they had not had any other complaints. After reading everything here that was obviously a lie. This has been so terrible losing our Sasha. We do not want anyone else to go through this. If you love your dog please stop feeding Iams. You don't want to live this nightmare.

Updated on 04/14/2018: I have contacted Mars the FDA and Iams and still nothing done. My dog Sasha died and I believe it is from eating this food and I just want someone to acknowledge. I first posted on this site in January 2018 after Sasha died. Since then I have called and told anyone that I could. Still this food is not recalled and dogs are still getting sick. I received a check from mars for the price of dog food, I am not cashing. I think that is terrible. Sasha meant so much more to me and my husband than the price of a bag of dog food. Everyone that posted on here needs to contact anyone and everyone until something is done. PLEASE!!!

He has been very itchy in his ears and scratched till one ear bled just slightly. He has had two poops that were much softer than normal, almost "creamy" for lack of better words. He is currently in bed with me, lying here with a fever and breathing a little oddly but that's probably due to the soreness in his ears. Very disappointed, IAMS. Based on my experience, and others' much worse experience you should not have that veterinary seal. I can only hope this is simply bad batch and you can bounce back from this.

I switched to Iams dog food for two of my dogs and on the second bag, bought early December 2017, they became deathly ill. One woke me up as was sleeping with us on the 18th, about to vomit. I got her to the bathroom floor where she vomited then fell over. She could not move and was barely breathing. She was defecating but had no ability to push or move. Blood poured from her rectum. I helped her as though she was dying and emptying her system. I held her and prayed then got her to vet. She was in liver failure and put on meds and fluids. The vet was not sure she would make it. Then the next night my other terrier started vomiting and vomited 6 times then was weak and violently trembling... She had not eaten as much of the Iams. She is a very smart Jack Russell and had not been eating this food. She would actually turn her nose up at it and my husband kept picking it up.

He was out of town this day and left the food on the floor in her bowl. When I got home she had not eaten so I crated her with the food and she finally ate. Then became sick that night. The other dog was at the vet fighting for her life. They have pulled through with an expensive vet bill and hopefully will be ok. This is too coincidental to not be the food. Our other older lab on different food is fine. The vet said could have been the food. I don't know if was a bad batch but have called the store and Iams. I just don't want any dogs to die from this so beware! Also, if your dog has these symptoms please take to vet immediately. Our healthy dog has died. Our other dog suffered extreme scratching all the time since opening a bag of Iams with 2 colors kibble. Neither dog ever seen scratching in their lives. We have never had fleas either. They had been fed Iams since about 2 or 3 years old. One died at age 9 after mush for stools, vomiting, and drinking tons of water going outside every two hours. Excessive drinking stopped. We thought it was due to his eating some mulch stuff on a walk and that he had a toxic reaction thereby causing the excessive drinking of water. Excessive drinking stopped after a week or so and then he wouldn't eat kibble (to which we always added pressure cooked, bones finger soft). Went down from there until he died in our arms.

Not sure it was entirely the Iams but we do think it had a lot to do with it. We stopped the Iams for both dogs then, and after a couple of weeks the living dog has stopped scratching completely. We feed her something else, obviously. Would not recommend Iams under any circumstance since our experience at least partially mimics that of quite a few others reporting here. I did call Iams and they will not offer much information about their food only that in August 2017 they added a "natural caramel color".

When I asked what that was they said it was sugar & carbohydrate. When I asked how much in a cup of kibble or in a 30lb sack, they said that was proprietary information. I have always been informed that sugar is not good for dogs but person on phone would not comment about that. Our experience started in September when we opened the bag that was packaged in August. That part was confirmed per Iams by the numbers on bag. Don't take a chance with Iams for your dog. There are too many other foods to choose from. I did not want to give any star rating but am forced to give one.

Iams makes an excellent dry dog food for the money spent. Being dogs are carnivores I am not sure and most pet food research does not make claims that dogs should not eat any grain and vets agree. There are nutrients and nourishment in grain that is needed for complete good health. They state the grain should Not be the primary ingredient in their food. As time passes those companies who promote a TOTAL grain free product sooner or later makes a grain product but with limitations to the grain used and volume. With the exception of just a few Purina products have become the most unhealthy product for your dog since P&G took them over. They provide a product that most consumers can afford is why it sells so well, NOT because it is healthy for your dog. Beneful is one of the highest recalled dog food on the market. So for $10 more per 25 lb bag I give my dog Iams with my vet's approval.

My little dog eats Cesar food so she wasn’t sick at all. Unfortunately she ate some of my other dog's puke as I was trying to clean it all up. Later both dogs were fine. I crated them both at night together like I always have done. The next morning when I went to feed them, my little dog didn’t get up. She was DEAD.

I immediately took my big guy to the ER vet to make sure he was going to be ok. It didn’t make sense. He was the sick one, yet my poor Angel died. The only thing found with Bear my big dog was a temperature. The vet figured it was stress due to the other dog passing so suddenly and maybe he sensed it coming so he got sick. We opted to get a necropsy because it didn’t make sense. Angel was 10 and in perfect health. This past Saturday Bear got sick again. Same as 2 weeks ago. His food looked like Cocoa Puffs in his puke.

After researching, we’ve come to realize Iams is responsible for the death of my Angel. Thank God we caught it in time before Bear died. We put him on a chicken and rice diet and he’s back to his old self. He was really lethargic and sick from Iams. This product needs to be removed off the shelves. I would like to do a class action lawsuit like the other reviewers have spoken about. It won’t bring my Angel back but they need to pay for all the emotional suffering that was caused unnecessarily by their food poisoning dogs.

Last night I had a very scary experience. My 8 yr old Chihuahua has been eating IAMS mini chunks all her life. I opened a new bag on Thursday and saw that the chunks were 2 different colors, that was different. She got very ill in the middle of the night. I didn't know this until morning when I woke to find her messes everywhere. Then last night, about an hour after eating, she started shaking and her front legs were sticking straight out when I picked her up. She couldn't walk straight and then vomited up her entire dinner.

I called emergency vet line and waited for them to call me back. She asked to go out and proceeded to poop all over the yard as she struggled to walk and then finally laid down in the grass and didn't get up. I bagged up some of her vomit and another bag of the new food. I had my suspicions that this might be the cause. The vet called back and told me it sounded like an allergic reaction. By this time she was laying on the couch, drooling and chewing her feet. Today I threw the food out and googled IAMS mini chunks and found this!!! WTH? Why isn't IAMS recalling this food??? I told the clerk at Petco about this and purchased a small bag of Nutro. I will call my vet tomorrow to let them know just in case others come in with similar issues as my dog. After countless and costly vet visits and medications, we were told that Iams has changed their formula and to change his diet. We did and now we must wait and see. Sadly, Sebastian must endure these violent attacks. The attacks are so horrific and traumatizing. I wouldn't wish this on any fur-baby. Please check with your vet, before it's too late.

We have given my dog IAMS for over 9 years. My dog was 11 years old at the time he got sick. He had been a healthy dog his whole life. We were feeding him the purple bag mature adult formula at the time he got sick. One day out of the blue he became very lethargic and something was wrong with his central nervous system. He could not walk correctly and had shallow breathing during the night. He also throw up and I inspected it and it appeared to be only dog food. The next day we took him to the vet they did a blood test, after reviewing blood results vet asked if our dog was poisoned... We thought and said no... After thinking... I thought all dog ate was dog food. We rarely did table scraps.

I then recalled seeing IAMS having different colored kibbles. Bag was also different. We gave my dog food from new bag for 2 weeks. My dog's health went downhill fast. Diarrhea, bloody stool, spleen enlarged. After large vet bill my dog did not make it. I looked online and found this forum. If you suspect IAMS is getting your dog sick please change right away. My dog first got sick early/mid Oct and was put down end of Oct. I do not know for sure if IAMS caused my dog to get sick but I have a gut feeling it may have especially after reading all the very similar accounts. I also believe others may have similar problems but have not written a review.

My 9-year-old dachshund got sick after about 5 days, was throwing up and pooping blood. I took him to the vet and came home with 5 prescriptions. At the time, my 4-year-old dachshund was fine. Yesterday, my 4-year-old dachshund started to show the same symptoms, while my 9-year-old showed improvement. I woke up this morning and my 4-year-old dog was dead. I now wait to see if my 9-year-old makes it. The symptoms are the same as in every one of these reviews. If I had only seen this sooner... my heart is broken. And I feel that it’s my fault for feeding her this poison called IAMS.

Our 8 1/2 year old boxer has been eating Iams Proactive Mini Chunks since she was a pup. About 1 1/2 years ago we switched to Mature Mini Chunks without any problems. I recently purchased two 30 lb. bags of Mature Mini Chunks and after one day of opening the bag, our boxer vomited immediately after eating. She refused the food at her next feeding. The next day she was lethargic and refused any attempt at food. She drank water extensively.

We immediately took her to the vet who told us it was some sort of toxin. She continued to get sicker so our vet recommended that we take her to the University of Georgia Veterinary School for extensive testing. After numerous tests and a blood transfusion, she continued to decline. They said she would probably live another 48 hours if they pumped her with glycerin, but wouldn't survive as her liver was too damaged. We decided to put her down as she was suffering so much. It was the hardest thing we've ever had to do! One day she was fine and healthy, the next she was dying.

UGA asked us if we wanted to have the food tested but we declined as it would not bring her back. Today I read all the reports on this website and contacted UGA to see if they still had the food. They did, so we are now having it tested by an outside company that they recommended. So far we have spent $2,700 in vet bills and still don't have an answer. When we get the report back on the testing, I will post the results. Meantime, we are heartbroken and if we find that it is the food and Iams has ignored all the able claims, we will take appropriate action.

This has been going on for about a week. Having seen a few similar and recent reports, I wanted to add my experience. We have a vet visit scheduled for both today. There is no guarantee that the dog food is the reason, but I've owned multiple dogs for over 30 years and never had both come down with the same problem. The bag was different, and the kibble was two different colors - light and dark. Both of my dogs became sick, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of energy. I thought it might have been a bad batch or something so I picked up a small bag from the grocery store. Same changes in the bag and food, but my dogs' tummies seemed to settle after a few days. The lingering change I noticed in my dogs was their stool was soft and was not seeming to get better. After looking at other reviews online, I decided to change food to a different brand altogether and everything is getting better. No vomiting, normal poop, energy back to normal. I have been a loyal Iams customer for over a decade and never had any problems, but there is an issue with the recent change in food.

Prior to feeding it to my furbabies I contacted Iams with my concern and was told that they tweaked the formula to make the product better. I was assured that the color change was just part of the new product change. I did comment that when the formula changes there should be something on the bag that states it.

Now all that being said, after a few weeks I noticed one of my babies started licking his paws & scratching a lot. No he does not have fleas or anything, it was more like an allergy so we gave him some medication which seemed to help. We are now on our second bag of new formula Lamb & Rice and the licking and scratching is getting worse and now continuing to the other two. After reading some of the issues other are having with this new formula I think it is safe to say I need to change foods because apparently there is something in this new and improved formula that is not agreeing with dogs. After all this time they should have left it alone.

OUR DOG IS STILL ILL - WE HAVE A VET APPOINTMENT FOR HER THIS AFTERNOON! Last month as usual, we purchased Iams Proactive Health Large Breed Dog Food (Lot #721D2NCH06 16:12 / US61591) at our local warehouse store. When we opened the bag we immediately noticed a difference in the food - it had TWO different colored nuggets (the darker nuggets looking overcooked or burnt). As we have been purchasing this food for over five years we were concerned about the change because we have a dog with a sensitive stomach. Needless to say - our dog became sick - vomiting and diarrhea.

Long story short, we returned the food to the local warehouse and went to a pet store to purchase a different lot of Iams. Unfortunately after purchasing and opening the bag, it too contained nuggets of two different colors. I have tried contacting Iams 1-800-525-4267 number, but I constantly reach a voice mail telling me the times they are open.

For the second time in 30 days, we have purchased what we thought was the IAMS Proactive Health Lamb & Rice formula and in fact we purchased IAMS Proactive Health Grass fed Lamb. The item we thought we purchased, putting our trust in IAMS as we have been purchasing the same food for 15 years, is packaged the exact same way as our long time dog food. When you feed your dogs the same product for 15 years, you can instantly notice any differences in smell, size of morsels, color, and changes to your dog’s stools. The first time this happened, we refused to feed the dogs with this “other” mixture. Luckily, we had another and fed the dogs using what we consider “normal” food.

We called IAMS and we were sent a coupon to replace the large bag of dog food. The bag we got as a replacement looked and smelled as it was supposed to. The dogs ate this food and were fine. Last evening we opened a new bag of food. The bag we opened we thought was IAMS Proactive Health Lamb Meal & Rice instead it was actually Proactive Health Grass Fed Lamb. Reluctantly we fed the dogs the Grass Fed mixture because that is all that we had. Guess what? Today we have runny stools, diarrhea, and constipation in our four (4) dogs. Thank goodness, I am working from home today; or we would have come home to an absolute mess.

I will be calling IAMS today and asking for a refund. I really do not have time for this. As loyal customers whom spend at least $2400/ year on IAMS products, we are very disappointed. It will cost us more money, but we are going to Science Diet. The thought of feeding our dogs a product manufactured by a company using bait and switch; using almost identical packaging to sell a different product, is much too risky. The bags are so similar they even with same dog pictured; pretty sneaky. Additionally the bags are so similar that they are stacked interchangeably at the pet store. UPC # / Lot & Expiration date from bags are below.

About a month ago my 10 year old Pomeranian became very ill, could not stand, could not hold down water, was panting and shaking, going potty in the house uncontrollably. This had happened to him one other time a few years back so my mother monitored him closely as she was deciding if we needed to take him to the vet. As she left the room to go get cleaned up to go take him to the vet she returned to the room to him dead. He had passed. Thinking he had gotten into something, we buried him in the yard without much thought.

Well throughout the past month my mother’s 8 year old boxer whom lives in the same household as the Pomeranian soon started to lose weight. We all thought it was depression due to the loss of her buddy. Well today she fell very ill with the exact same symptoms of my other dog. How strange that we had 2 dogs fall ill in a month of each other with the EXACT same symptoms. The common factor. IAMS Mini bites... my sister purchased a 50lb bag of it over a month ago, and my mother’s boxer is still eating out of it. Sadly our 2nd dog had to be put down an hour ago... I am calling IAMS and filing a suit against them. After reading all of these awful reviews this has got to be the reason!

By the second night they had full blown diarrhea. Waking several times through the night. Could not even make it outside! We had a mess on our floors and bed!! They were both trembling and fevered!! So I did some research and think I have found the culprit!! I can not believe with all the same complaints about this brand it is still being sold. I am very worried and concerned about both my babies. They will not eat today. It is only the 3rd day since the change. Total of 1 can eaten between the 2 of them in a 2 day period!! I pray they recover quickly! I will be seeking a attorney for a class action law suit if something happens to either of them!! THIS PRODUCT NEEDS TO BE PULLED IMMEDIATELY!!

His health was really wonderful for the vast majority of his life; only when he got very old did he have any issues, and those were primarily arthritis and some bowel problems. I am shocked that so many consumers out there have had similar problems with their pets when feeding them IAMS dog food. I started feeding my spaniel on the 11th May 2017. Two days later she was at the vet's with a temperature shaking and lethargic. Since taking her off the food she is almost back to her old self. I believe that the IAMS dog food I fed her made her ill, perhaps an ingredients it contains or worse it was contaminated with Salmonella or another bacteria.

I have read that this item has been recalled over the years and so many other consumers have similar issues with the product range. I have contacted MARS in the UK who produce the product here and am waiting for them to address my concern in order to prevent other dogs from going through such pain and suffering. Food poisoning is not to be taken lightly. Thankfully due to taking her off the food, feeding her small amounts of rice and chicken and ensuring she drinks water she is making a good recovery. Thank goodness.

In June 2016, my family dog, Zeus, an 8 yr old Doberman, was put to sleep because his health had drastically declined out of nowhere. It started with him refusing to eat, he started then becoming weak. My mother took him to the vet and they thought it may be cancer. They gave her a soft food to start to start mixing in with his hard food so it would be easier for him to eat if it was causing him pain due to mouth cancer. 3 weeks later, you could see every bone in his body, he was so weak that he could barely stand by himself. He still would not eat the food. We took him back to the vet and they reported 6 kinds of cancer possibilities, but could not pinpoint anything. We then made the decision to not let him suffer anymore.

Our female 4 yr old Rottweiler started losing weight at this point also, but we did not think anything of it at the time, due to her having a litter of pups and losing her mate. Her fur was falling out, and she was just so, sad. A few of her pups passed after weaning them off of their mom. Bia is decreasing in health as we speak. In December 2016, my husband switched our 2 full blooded huskies, Vander 7, Loki 5, from the Senior Iams to Proactive health mini chunks, because we fed them the same food and we thought it would be more beneficial because it was healthier for them and our 4-month-old pup, was sneaking to their bowls as well. Within a few days, Loki and Vander got explosive diarrhea and could not keep any food or water down. Vander started peeing and pooping blood, where the pup got diarrhea the first day he got into it.

The symptoms cleared for a couple weeks, after 2 weeks of feeding them all chicken, rice, pasta and reintroducing the Iams pet food. But now, the same issue is back, but far worse. He is back to being so severely dehydrated, that he is always licking around his mouth as if he had peanut butter. He is vomiting white foam, and he is completely secluding himself from the whole family. He is very weak to the point that his legs are shaking standing here. Vander's eyes are glossed over, and the only person he has not become aggressive with is me. Loki and Thor are back to having diarrhea as well. Loki Is starting to get weak, and Thor is vomiting. The only food we have ever fed our dogs is Iams.

I have kept the last bag that we purchased, which I usually don't, and I will be getting some of the food tested, if, Iams accepts this bag, but they are refusing the public and not doing anything to change this dramatic, and drastic log of events around the United States, with hundreds of dogs and cats. We are not the only family this has happened to. Hundreds of others have lost their pets, and it is so cruel and ignorant that the FDA and IAMS are doing nothing about this. They should obviously be recalling Proactive Health, rather than, inserting $10 coupons inside. WE MUST STICK UP FOR OUR PETS. INDIVIDUALLY, they WILL reject us; TOGETHER, they CAN'T ignore us.

Iams for large breed and Iams weight restriction Rx foods - I got my dog a Dane/Lab mix over 3 years ago, she was 16 months old. I first put her on Iams after owning her for 3 months as she did not like the Beneful. She has been on Iams for large breed for 3 years, no issues or problems and everyone comments on how beautiful and shiny her coat is! She has had normal bowel movements twice a day. I switched Madison to Iams weight restriction when she started having pain and limping in her left knee and had some mild hip dysplasia and I and the vet knew she had gained too much weight. I had broken my foot twice and was less active, making her less active. I mixed the new food with her old food until she was use to it. She loves the new stuff and in 4 months is down 8 pounds with only 5 more to go.

She is still looking and doing great with little or no limp most days. She has 5 more pounds to go and then we can give her more of the weight loss food. She loves it. Her bowel movements are also smaller and even MORE firm since the food is even better with less waste. I would just like to say Not EVERY dog can eat the same food, not EVERY dog reacts the same way to food, not EVERY dog has allergy issues to food. Thousands of dog eat Iams and yes some have issues, most do not. I have no issues with Iams and will continue to feed my very healthy dog this brand. This pic is pre-diet btw. YES I would love coupons!!

I noticed, however, he'd stopped eating the Iams. Refused it altogether.

Over the weekend, I came to my mother's for a visit, brought with me some of his Iams dog food. Not thinking anything of it. My mother's dog is now in the very same shape, actually worse. He's currently hospitalized on fluids and medication to stop the explosive blood and vomiting. SAME EXACT ISSUES. SAME EXACT FOOD!! I'm going home tomorrow to gather the information from the bag of food and coming at Iams (mars) directly. Our dogs almost died. Something is wrong and it needs to be corrected!

In November, thinking she wasn't getting enough fat I changed her back to the regular IAMS that her brother was on. Her coat did not improve. She did not blow her coat in the fall as her brother did. Even when we combed her very few hairs came out.

I took her to the vet in Dec. The numbers for her liver and gall bladder were a normally high. She was not utilizing the protein she was eating. She was given an antibiotic and put on a liver health supplement. We changed both dogs back to Purina One Lamb and Rice. She is still under the vets care and her numbers are improving. At this time we do not know what the long term outcome will be.
