I operate a Beagle kennel, train and raise them. Used to feed Red River until dealer went out of business. I had researched all brands of dog food, wrote articles in the Beagle magazines about the quality of foods and their ingredients. Since Tractor Supply stores are popping up everywhere and are close, I changed to them. All was well until my last ton of dog food. I noticed right away the chocolate looking nuggets in the bag! Very different than the past dog food. I had 3 females who refused to eat it! I had to use canned gravy and make an essence of leftover dinners to add to the food so they would eat it.
Called TSC, guy named Tory asked for the numbers off the bag, I read them and he acknowledged that it was the new vendor/DIAMOND. He said that he would see about getting me a voucher from TSC so I could get other dog food to replace the Diamond/Retriever. Waited about 2 weeks, NOTHING! Sent e-mail, I did not notice anything if one was sent. Called again yesterday and a lady answered the phone, she was familiar with the incident. She let me know that there was and would not be any vouchers or support.
She PASSED THE $ BUCK TO DIAMOND!! Gave me their phone number to call and complain to them! I said YOU PROFITED off of me and you are going to pass the $buck, she did not like that at all! Well, I AM A TWO-TOUR VIETNAM VETERAN and because of us servicemen, TSC can freely have a business, buy wholesale and retail in this GREAT UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!! So, be aware, retail stores accept NO liability for their profiting on us, just pass the $buck.I said; YOU PROFITED OFF OF ME AND YOU ARE PASSING THE BUCK!!

Our 14 month old female German Shepherd started on Diamond Naturals Beef Meal & Rice formula back in September. Almost immediately, she started having loose stools in the house, many times more than once a a day. Also, the gas is TERRIBLE!!!! I've seen her throw up a handful of times too. What upsets me the most is that this particular brand and formula was recommended by our local feed store. The man swears by it and said that since it was a plant based formula it is better for my dog versus the stuff I had been buying that had corn and fillers. Well, it is NOT a fit for our dog. It seems that whenever the company changed its packaging, somehow they also changed their formula without any updating the ingredients. I don't know what is going on, but the consensus from dog owners is that their dogs are sick from THIS product!!!

We adopted our puppy Benny 6 months ago. He's part German Shepherd and part Great Pyrenees. The first couple of months he was healthy as can be and not a problem in the world. The past few months have not been so great since we switched to Diamond "natural" food. He has been soooo gassy! Like every ten minutes he would let one go. He has an anal gland infection. The vet can't figure it out. She said for a dog this age and being a big dog he shouldn't ever have this problem. He's on medication for it and Beano for the gas. But after reading all of the other reviews on here we now know the food is the problem.
His stool has been mushy and a grayish color. Because of the lack of solid stool he is unable to "release" his glands. We have him on canned pumpkin as well for more fiber to increase solidity of his stool and that isn't even helping. My wife and I found these reviews this morning and while she was reading the 3rd review I dumped out every crappy kibble of diamond brand food we had. This company should just down!!!! Stop poisoning people's dogs!!!!

I've used this dog food for years as well as many dog breeders I work with. I must say this product has taken a turn for the worst. The smell is foul, vomiting, diarrhea, lost performance. I no longer use this product and haven't for some time but know ones that do - 20 yr plus dog men and know their stuff. And will be the first to say this dog junk is the bottom of the barrel.

Neko, my 8-wk. old Black Lab/ Chocolate mix was mine for only three weeks. I started her on Diamond Puppy Formula, which she gobbled up. I'd fed my last Lab Diamond products and she'd lived fifteen years. When I returned to the pet store, the salesman urged me to try Diamond Naturals. Wanting only the best for my new addition, I followed his suggestion and Neko took to Naturals Large Breed Puppy Food as readily as she had the low-end stuff. Her stool was softer than it had been and maybe a bit different colored, but she wasn't vomiting, nor did she have diarrhea. A day and a half later, I received a call from my next door neighbor whose six-year-old probably loved Neko as much as me. Our homes are separated by an anchor fence and Piper was free to play with Neko when she returned from daycare. Her dad told me to hurry home. I did and discovered my lovely little pup dead.
Neko didn't live long enough to have interaction with any other dogs, which effectively rules out Parvo. A privacy fence surrounds my yard, apart from the anchor fence that separates my yard and Piper's, and no one would have known I had a new pet, which tends to rule out poisoning. Neko only spent pleasant days outdoors in a pen 'til I returned from work, after which we played and she spent her night indoors. After reading the numerous comments of the various posters, I'm convinced something about the Diamond Naturals puppy food, be it the increase in protein or bacteria, killed my Neko. The timing is just too extraordinary. I only wish she'd shown some symptoms so that I could have rushed her to the vet. These foods should have a warning on the bag at the very least.

We have bought Diamond Dog Food for our dogs before, and never had any problems. We bought a new bag in October. We noticed that the bag had changed, but there was nothing that said the recipe had changed. My one dog pulled out almost all of the hair on his tail, couldn't figure why, but after reading some of these complaints, I think I have found my answer. That is after $300.00 in vet bills, and he has since passed away. My other dog doesn't want to eat the food, and has really bad gas. I've had to take her to the vet. What is worse is that I recommended this dog food to my neighbors, and they bought some. Now their dogs have really bad gas. If Diamond changed the recipe without notice on the bag, did the company even think of what it could do to people's pets? Why did they change the recipe in the first place? Now, I need to warn my neighbors, before it kills one of their dogs.

I feel if your product could cause illness or death of a pet it should have warning on the bag!! Me and my wife are disabled vets living on fixed income. As of today vet bills over $2000.00. Our vet is doing all she can to save nubbins. Our vet feels that the blood work indicates that Salmonella is the cause for her illness. She has consulted with a vet that specializes in liver disease in dogs from Memphis. She wanted to send her to Memphis to specialist. We had to make a decision no one should have to make when simple warning if you change to higher protein dog food it can cause pancreatitis and liver failure. We mixed our lower protein dog food with the diamond extreme athlete thinking better dog food. I do appreciate Diamond Dog Food vet dept. for checking on progress of our dogs. Diamond Dog Food vet also said that changing to a higher protein dog could cause pancreatitis.

Nov.1 2014 - switched our 3 dogs to Diamond extreme athlete dry food mixed with existing food as label instructs. That evening all three started vomiting and by Nov. 5 our youngest dog was in vet for 6 days with pancreatitis. Other 2 still on meds with ongoing symptoms. The dog food company vet told us that switching from one with less protein to theirs with a higher protein could cause pancreatitis. Our vet said salmonella was the cause because of the symptoms and blood work.

I just bought Diamond Natural dog food for my 2 dogs and have had issues since. My St Bernard was taken to the vet for excessive salivating and retching and we thought it was a flu. The salivating has stopped, but now she has hot spots on her tail and has ripped out a huge patch of hair on her tail. My lab mix has horrible gas and is visibly uncomfortable. After reading reviews and over $300. At the vet I will never purchase this brand of food again. I feel bad about purchasing what I thought was a better quality of food actually is making my dogs very sick! Do not buy this food!

Beware of Diamond Dog and Cat foods now "Anti Oxidant" Formula. If you see the new packaging do not buy it. My dog did not make it through the transition period from his regular Senior Formula to the Senior Formula. He began vomiting when the percentage of the new formula reached over 50%. Vet exam, blood work, and fecal elimi. My dog barely survived the transition from the old Diamond Senior formula to the new Anti Oxidant Senior formula. He didn't like the smell or taste, and it cause vomiting once the new food equaled 50% of what I fed him. Vet visit has ruled out other causes and she believes the ingredients are the problem. I'm out almost $200 and the dog is on Pepcid AD and bland home made food.

I have been feeding my 2 cats this food for 9 years. I noticed a packaging change when I purchased the food last month. One cat became very sick and lethargic after a few days. Each time she would try to eat it she would start choking and sneezing. The other cat refused to eat it. Called the company and found out that they changed the formula. $400.00 vet bill later my cat is now on baby food. I am sending the food back for analysis. The manufacture date was February 2014. I think that there is something toxic in food.

Diamond Natural Chicken and Rice - When I tried this food with my dog, she hardly ate it. There was something about it. She threw up a couple times. The last time that she threw up, it was violently and she lay there weak and hardly had the strength to get up. When I took her to the Emergency Veterinarian, they found all of these previous problems that were linked to this food in the past recall: Acute vomiting and diarrhea, Low albumin, Low platelet levels, Non-regenerative anemia, Abnormally low white blood cell count, Electrolyte imbalances, which may include sodium and potassium imbalances. My dog had all of the above symptoms. This has cost me nearly $2000 in veterinarian bills. My pet is still trying to recover and is still at the hospital.

The first bag of Diamond Dry Dog food was recommended to me, as we were using Taste of the Wild for my dogs, but it is too expensive for a 50 lb bag. When I brought the bag home, I mixed some of it with their other dog food. I had bought the Chicken. As soon as I went to give it to my dogs, my Pit wouldn't touch her food at all, and the other one ate the food. When I finally got my other dog to eat some of the mixed food, I took them for a walk as usual. They both had diarrhea and lots of horrible gas. It took several days for me to get rid of their diarrhea by just giving them the original food without the Diamond Chicken dry. I've tried the Lamb and Rice, which they'll both eat, but their stool is still very soft, and they both still have a lot of gas.
I like the idea of the food supposedly being "all natural", but I'm not sure I will buy this food again since it seems to be affecting their stomachs. I would suggest checking your ingredients more thoroughly, and inspecting the quality and freshness, along with what's being put into the bags. This is a disappointment to me, as I was happy to see another Natural food for my dogs that was cheaper but healthy. I value my dogs as a family member.

I used Diamond brand adult premium for 15 years with my dogs. One day I was in a pet store that carried Diamond but they only carried Diamond Naturals. They told me it was better for my dog. I loved my dog more than anything in the world so I switched to the adult formula of the Diamond Naturals. Within two months my dog became very sick, he had renal failure. The vet said the food I was giving was way too high in protein and it is possible that could have caused his renal failure. This is something that can't be proven and is only speculation. After $20,000.00 and multiple trips to the vet for fluids and medication I lost my boy on January 27, 2013 to renal failure. I lost the biggest part of myself that day . Even though it's been almost a year I still cry due to missing him. I just want to open people's eyes to crude protein content in their dogs food. Anything over 27% is way too high!

After I and my boxer have been subject to allergies for a while, I discovered that the culprit is Diamond Naturals pet food. I had watery itchy eyes and later headaches. My boxer also had watery eyes, bad breath, and could not gain weight. I emailed Diamond and told them of my findings and asked if something could be in their food that is not in the Diamond High Energy. That is what we switched to and the allergies stopped. The response I got from Diamond was very Lawyer written and Diamond did not mention a recall they issued last year. I did not know of the recall until this morning which prompted this review. I hate that I now will switch from Diamond High Energy but I feel like Diamond is more interested in profit than my dog's health. I had originally switched to Diamond from Purina after the China tainted dog food and recall. It seems some US companies can not make dog food either.

First of all, we purchased a bag of Diamond in August 2013 and it was full of bugs. We threw it away and purchased another bag that was just fine. We purchased three 40 lb bag of Diamond dry dog food in October 2013 from the same store, Atwoods Farm Supply. We opened the first bag and noticed it had a very strong smell, unlike previous bags of Diamond used for a 1 1/2 years. When I gave it to the dogs, they wouldn't touch it. We opened the next bag, same thing. I know my dogs. They eat every usually that I feed them. This is the second day and they will not touch it and I've sent my husband to town to get a different brand all together. We will be returning all the food.

We live about 3/4 of a mile from the Diamond Dog Food plant in Lathrop, CA. Whenever the wind blows the right direction, we get a very rancid smell. The place always smells, not to mention how noisy it is. When talking to the company about it, they basically said tough luck. We have lived here a lot longer than the plant has been there and find this type of treatment to be highly unfair. We know people who complained about the smell from their new plant in Ripon, CA.

We have been using Diamond Natural Lamb and Rice for Large Breed Puppy for our puppies... It all started in January. We started having puppies getting sick and some have died all of sudden. Pups were coming down with a yellow, mustard-colored, watery stool. Sometimes there would be mucus in it. Pups would be vomiting. We took them in and they had high levels of bacteria in their stools and the vet would put them on an antibiotic and the thing seemed to get a little better.
While the pups were on meds, we switched to a canned puppy food from Pedigree and, within 12 hours, the pups were feeling better and their stools would then become solid. This has been going on over a month. We bleach the kennels every day, had our well water tested. I called Diamond and they told me that there is no recall on their food. We took a sample in to be tested and it came back with a small amount of bacteria in it. I think that with the pups eating the food over several weeks of the food, the level of bacteria was becoming higher. We have switched dog food for the puppies and now they are fine.

I contacted Diamond and they are investigating my original complaint as of this time. And since I actually wrote the review, one by one, my dogs seem to be improving. I'm now thinking I jumped the gun (because of other complaints I've read here and there) and maybe this bag of food is okay. I don't think it smells bad/strong like the original one I got refunded.
But when you're dogs look at you, smell the bowl of food, and walk away, what are you to think? I am thinking this may be some kind of flu bug, moving from one dog to another. It's not bad, like throwing up or diarrhea, just not eating. I wanted to enter this 'resolution' when I saw my complaint published. I do not want Diamond getting a bad rap due to me jumping the gun on what I thought was bad food.

I have been feeding Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice for at least 5 years now. We have a kennel of 8 dogs. Over a month ago, I opened a bag of food that just didn't smell right but thought maybe I just hadn't noticed it before. Then my dogs started being picky and finally not eating. So I called Diamond and they immediately refunded my money. So I guess I was happy enough about that, and I dumped that bag of food. Since then, I've probably went through two more bags, and the dogs have ate fine. Now, I'm about 1/3 way through another bag and it did not smell when I opened it, but now it is starting to smell and the dogs are not eating. Is the food spoiling after we open the bag? I keep it in a large sealed plastic dog food bin after I open it.

I gave my 2 yr old lab Diamond Naturals extreme athlete dog food, which costs $35.99/bag at local TSC store. We switched from another diamond naturals brand because the bag smelled rancid & our dog was having foul gas & diarrhea. The first bag of extreme athlete had a good smell & the dog had less gas and back to normal stool. The second bag we purchased was rancid and not realizing it, our dog had a weeks worth of bad food. She again developed potent/foul gas and severe diarrhea. We exchanged the affected bag and checked the new bag for quality. The bag at the store was rancid. The third bag we checked smelled fine & we took that one home. So a totoal of 3 bags of Diamond Naturals were rancid & caused our dog to have potent/foul gas & diarrhea.

they are still selling nutri nuggets in Sri Lanka of Diamond Products and since it is a third world country, it is likely that not many dog owners are aware that this is a banned and recalled product. My dog started vomitting after it consumed the nuggets.
Aside from having spent Rs 17,000 on getting her cured, which is still uncertain, I woulld like you to please get this food recalled from Sri Lanka as well immediately through the international press so that no other dogs will die. It is rather difficult to get your dog back once it is gone... and compensation rarely replaces the dog itself. Thank you.

I Lost a 5 year old lab to a puffy tan colored vomit. The dog went into a pond trying to re hydrate herself and died. The illness I felt was due to food/poisoning. This was in december of 2006. I now have a 3 month old lab puppy that I fed 2 bowls of Diamond Professional adult dog food and the same results came about. Tan colored puffy vomit which in turn was followed by blood in her pen. She was rushed to a vet and no viruses or parasites were found.
The dog food manufacturer says that the food was out dated and caused this problem. How can an un opened bag in a controlled environment go bad? Evidently given the situation the food had been sitting in a warehouse for months. Diamond pet foods would not even consider paying vet bills due to the production date code on the bag. mar 30 2006. I purchased the food around October/November 2006 from a retail store. I do not have receipts from purchase but do have The bag of food.
