My cats' been recently getting sick from 9Lives. I have never had a problem before until recently. All three of my indoor cats has vomited every time they eat. Recall your food. You are making cats sick and from the reviews I am not the only one having problems. I have recently switched brands and not one cat has vomited. I would have gave you no stars but I had to give at least one. Do not feed your cats this poison.

I was shopping at Publix about a month ago and came across 9Lives wet cat food on sale and decided to stock up. Our family was adopted by a stray about a year ago and figured he’d enjoy some wet food for a change. A few weeks ago I noticed he was acting a little strange but didn’t think much of it. He’s now having trouble sitting up and he’s doing a weird thing with his neck. He is acting totally lost, circling around and around. A few days ago I was on Publix website and noticed a recall due to low levels of thiamine. All the symptoms fit and I’m livid at this company. After doing a lot of research I’m realizing what garbage I’ve been feeding this poor cat and that they are still selling it recall after recall. Shame on 9Lives!!!

I recently bought 9Lives for my 2 year old female cat since it looked to be a better affordable buy. Day 1. After eating we noticed her throwing up. We didn’t link it to the food until my dog got into her cat food and he started throwing up too. Day 2. We continued to give her the food because we weren’t sure if it was really the food doing this to her or maybe it was something her and my dog got into the day before without us noticing since they are little menaces together, but again she was throwing up again after eating the food. I did a little research on 9Lives daily essentials and found that the reviews were all a little scary and changed her food immediately. She has been doing much better since.

My beautiful feline daughter loved 9lives at one point. I would get this brand at the dollar store to supplement her other food. Here and there I noticed globs of hairballs she would purge up but thought nothing of it. Then a month ago, she started retching. She coughed up 2 hairballs and then just started vomiting up foamy saliva. It did not stop and I had to take her to the ER. It was 4 visits all together in one week because the local vet did not want to help us so my poor baby had to go 4X to the damn ER! Her retching did not stop and she also had stopped eating. I was beyond hysterical. The Xrays and blood work was fine.
The sonogram showed she had a mild thickening of intestine and it could be anything. It was recommended we do a food trial. The problem still continued and I cried and cried feeling helpless. She would not even go into her room where her food was. She refused to eat! We gave her an appetite stimulant and gave her some milk that seemed to help. We also got a box full of Meow Mix and she ate that like she had not eaten in years! Now I am reading the reviews of 9lives and I am shocked and yet now I have some closure about the problem. I will NEVER purchase that poison again!

My cat loved this stuff... (9Lives pate). I just bought a new box of pate favorites and after eating he started vomiting all over the house. Thought he had an upset stomach, so I didn't link it to the food until the next day when again after eating he started vomiting but this time it came with horrible diarrhea, that my poor baby couldn't even make it to his litter box for... Never again will I feed him this crap. He seems to be feeling better today. He still has diarrhea but he's making it to the box and he's no longer vomiting. I am so happy it wasn't a worse ending and that he seems to be recovering. Please be very cautious of feeding your kitty this crap, something is very wrong with this food!

While I was growing up, my mom always fed our cats Meow Mix. I even did my 9th grade science fair project on 3 different brands with Meow Mix being one of them. Now, as an adult, I have 4 cats, a set of sisters and a younger set of brothers, Tiffany, Tabby (1 year old) Titan & Thor (5 months old). I fed them Meow Mix always until we were in the middle of a job change and wasn't going to have a paycheck for 3-4 weeks. I went to the Family Dollar in Alexandria, IN and purchased a 20# bag of 9Lives dry food. It was on sale at a decent price and I was limited on money, so I figured that it would last them until payday. I usually can't afford a big bag of Meow Mix and I was worried we would run out of food before our next payday. So needless to say, I bought it.
Reluctantly, my furbabies started eating it. Within a week, they were throwing up. During that same week, Titan, one of my 5 month old male furbabies, started coughing then threw up his food and kept throwing up until it was just white, foamy stomach bile. Then, he stopped using using the litter box and instead choosing to go on carpet, couches, recliners and bedding. Then, out of nowhere, he had 3 violent seizures in 5 days.
The seizures got worse with each one, more violent and lasting longer and longer with the last one being almost 3 1/2 - 4 minutes. He would roll and tumble and his poor little, weak body would shake and curl up, his eyes rolled into the back of his head and his tongue hung out. He looked like he was dying and there was nothing we could do to help him. It was one of the scariest things I had ever seen and I cried and cried, fully expecting him to pass right in front of us and with my 4 & 6 year olds crying in the next room as they walked in right as it started to happen. Thankfully and luckily he pulled out of it and within 2 minutes, he was back to himself.
I started to do some research after the first seizure. Then today, I stumbled upon a blog post about a fellow cat mom whose cat started having seizures out of nowhere at 5 years old. Numerous vet and feline neurologist appointments later, the kitty was diagnosed with Idiopathic Seizures and placed on ** 2x a day. She went on to write about how her family changed their diet years later to a more all-natural diet and changed the cat's diet along with theirs. She stated that after changing her cat's diet, the seizure medicine was no longer needed as the cat stopped having them altogether. This got me thinking.
So, I searched "9Lives Reviews" and ended up here. As I read all the reviews, my eyes widened with horror and panic. Immediately, I jumped up and grabbed my cats' food bowls and dumped the food into the garbage. I washed them out with soap and water so there was no residue of that crap left in their bowls. I left right there and took the last $5 we have to our name and bought a bag of Meow Mix. I may not be able to get to work tomorrow, but at least my cats will no longer be poisoned by this terrible brand.
I just changed it back tonight, so time will tell. I can say this, however, that after eating the Meow Mix, all 4 of my precious furbabies are starting to act more like themselves again. 9Lives is more like Killing Lives. I firmly believe that if the 9Lives company will not take the lives of our pets seriously and will not act on the many complaints of their consumers, then action needs to be taken by everyone coming together.
Their food is killing our furbabies and they do not even care! I am spreading the word and going to be calling as many people as will listen, including my local news channel. Channel 8 will investigate into complaints and I am going to make sure that my voice is heard loud and clear. Our animals are like our young little ones, we are their voice. Everyone that has left a review or reading over them, eyes wide in horror like I just was, need to come together and make this company be responsible! I almost lost my furbaby over $7.99. NEVER AGAIN. This product is toxic.

9Lives canned food - I have a senior cat, 15... she has always loved the cheaper brands best for some reason. I had been giving her Meow Mix and Fancy Feast for the last few years. I ran out of food and had to go to the corner store. I had given her 9Lives before without problems years ago. This time she ate it and within hours she had major diarrhea, just once, then she was walking in circles, peeing outside of her box and seemed to be in a daze all day. I gave her water but I had to hold the bowl up to her.
I don't know what 9Lives did differently but they seem to be poisoning cats left and right... she is starting to recover now and even started purring again today. Thank God. I love that cat since I saved her. Someone threw her out of a car window when she was days old, I had to dropper feed her and learn how to be a mother cat. Her eyes were not even open yet. I am a dog person and didn't care for cats. She changed my mind. Please NEVER feed your cats 9Lives again, they switched formula or something, probably moved to China.

My cats like all children loved this cat food even though it is not the healthiest diet for them. The grain and preservatives in this cat food turns out are not at all healthy for a cat. So this food is low grade and it is not worth the price you pay for it. Although they have a good mix of proteins, they are using meal mixes instead of whole meat proteins and they use way too much salt. So I have now changed my cat food and my cats are doing much better.

After 12 days of feeding Surf 'N Turf canned food to my cat, she died. The vet didn't know what her sickness was coming from, lethargy, diarrhea, ultimately anemia. He said she looked to have multiple internal issues as well. I got a new kitten, and she started showing the same signs. I looked up the food and sure enough, it's from hell itself. 9Lives customer support didn't take me seriously, and didn't act like they would do much about it! We had to bury our first family pet and my 5 year old daughter cried saying it wasn't fair. We have been very worried as several of our cats have been getting sick. When I checked out this site and realized that other people are having the same problem I got angry. I’ve been feeding my cats 9Lives Daily Essentials for years. The last month and a half we have purchased three 20 lb bag of Daily Essentials from our Dollar General.
We have nine cats and at first it was just one here and there throwing up, now we have five who have started vomiting after eating, some have been meowing constantly, there is fighting too many times in a day. Three have not wanted to be held, they have all been sleeping more than usual and we have several who have been peeing outside of the litter box. These behaviors did not happen before the contents of these bags of food was used. We will no longer be buying any 9Lives products. 9Lives you need to figure out what the problem is and fix it. We will be buying from a different company. Unfortunately I don't keep receipts, but I know what we purchase monthly.

Started feeding 9Lives this weekend. I went in the Dollar Store, because we were out of cat food, this was the only brand of wet food they had available. Our cats ate the food Sunday and Monday. One of them threw up everything she ate, but even so, I found her last night dazed and drooling after eating. She recovered and seems to be ok. Our other cat ate a double portion and hasn't been so lucky. Last night he lost control of his back legs. He walked like he was drunk. This morning I went to check on him and he can't move anything but his head, too weak to stand or move. He is at the vet now, getting IV fluids, steroids, not sure if he is going to survive.
Nothing has changed for our cats with the exception of this food. I'm hating myself now for doing the convenient thing and not going to another store for their usual Friskies, if I had, my cat might be ok today and not on the edge of death. I wish I had known about all these reviews people have left with similar problems. Do yourself a favor and don't feed your cat this garbage.

None of these behaviors occurred before the contents of this bag of food was used. I want to share with you about feeding cats anything with Tuna or White fish and you may already know this. I bought for my cats 9Lives can cat food and noticed immediately my senior cat started to have convulsions and seizures! He was having them so bad he couldn't walk! I jumped on Google and found what was going on with him was Mercury Poisoning! I stopped feeding them any food with Tuna or White fish and no more seizing. So beware, if you feed yours any canned or dry food with tuna or white fish and they start showing signs or acting weird like seizing stop feeding immediately! That was the scariest thing I have ever seen but now I know. Mercury is found in larger fish like Tuna. So remember: the bigger the fish the more mercury. So with that said, I fed them Salmon and they are fine and no signs of Mercury Poisoning so it's a good choice if you want to feed them fish.

They picked at the food and my oldest cat walked away from dish and instantly throw up. I usually have to fill their bowls twice a day but for 3 days their food stayed the same amount and they all would cry when I went near their bowls.
The same with the outdoor cats. They would not touch their food. I watched them go to the dishes then sniff food and walk away. I don't know what is in their food but my youngest cat eats anything he sees me eating even pancakes so for him to not eat this stuff it scares me to think what I was feeding them. A few days later there was no change. $200.00 later I decided to try to feed it to him through a feeder. He started looking better, but he was getting weaker. I took him back to the vet and $51.00 dollars later due to him needing vitamins and a stronger medication.
I went to buy more food and was told that there was a recall on the 9Lives cat food so I bought the EverPet food instead. I now discovered that there is a recall on the EverPet. WTH... This cat is really sick and if he doesn't improve, he may have to be euthanized, which is not where I want to go. I think these pet food co's need to pay the vet bill and hospital bills and should the case of euthanization be the only option, there should be a lawsuit.

I usually buy Friskies canned food, but thought I would try the 12 pack of 9 lives canned food. My cat has started throwing up his food, and is crying because he is hungry but won't eat now. He never leaves any food on his plate but has been eating only half of the half can I give him. Am taking him to the vets Monday because of this recall as I think it is the food since it started about 3 or 4 days after giving him this food. The UPC numbers do not match but have a feeling it is still not good food. I have never had any problems with this cat and his eating until now. I am going to return the balance of the food even though these numbers are not on the recall list. I truly believe this is what is making him sick. I can't find my damned receipt from Meijers now. Don't care. I will throw away the 6 cans left. My cat is worth more than the money they cost. I still have the cans if you want them.
Updated on 01/10/2017: I actually called 9Lives and asked if they had expanded their recall. The woman said no and I told her about my cat throwing up after eating 9Lives and then he didn't want to eat again. He would try, then throw up and not go back to the food. This food was the chicken and also the Super Supper one. She asked me if I had taken him to a vet, which I was going to call them today until he acted better and kept the Friskies food down. I gave her the can number and she said that it wasn't in the list. I said, I know but maybe it should be? She said that she doubted it was the food and because I hadn't had a vet confirm that, it wasn't possible. I asked if it would be worth checking into to see if something was wrong and she pooh-poohed that.
I believe something is definitely wrong with the 12 pack of cans I bought. Every time I gave him 1/2 can it would come back up. This had never happened with 9Lives before. But to just being shut down as zero possibility sure isn't showing any kind of concern. Since I totally switched him back to Friskies, the vomiting has stopped but he is not totally back to himself yet. I was disappointed in the response I got from 9Lives - that nothing could be wrong just because I have a cat that was vomiting. She suggested that he ate something outdoors - wrong, he is totally an inside cat. She never asked my name, address or anything about me. I have saved the open can of food that I last gave him. Don't know if I can get it tested or not. Would like to put this on their site but can't find a Facebook site for them that lets messages be posted.

We thought since it's so cold out that she didn't like being cooped up in the house. (She loves being outdoors.) And our cat would inhale her food. Last week I bought Purina dry cat food. And we have seen a positive change. Queenie doesn't meow nonstop, and staying out of mischief. She now eats her food slowly. Please do not buy 9Lives cat food!

We normally do not buy 9Lives for our two cats after being suspicious that the food was making them sick and the company never replied to our numerous emails, so we avoided this brand at all cost. 4 days ago we bought a pack of 24 cans to save some money since Christmas was stretching our budget thin. Today is day 3 of feeding our cats from this pack of cans. Both cats started vomiting until they have lost all stomach contents then continued to dry heave for over an hour. Our 8 year old cat now can't walk a straight line, is lethargic, has diarrhea and is mewing pitifully. Our 7 year old cat is also lethargic, has diarrhea and panting. When I manage to get them to take some water, they immediately vomit again.
Since today is a Sunday and New Year's day, the only vet open is the more expensive emergency offices. Since we have blown our budget on Christmas, we have no money for even our non-emergency vet and no one has money to loan us thanks also to their Christmas spending. I am devastated and afraid for the lives of our cats! Buyer beware!!! This food will at the very least make your cats very sick!

He has been eating ALL day without any problems. I am glad I stopped feeding him the product when I did. I had an appointment at the vet for my buddy, Gus literally the day after he passed away. 12 more hours and he may have made it. I know everyone thinks their pet is the coolest, but Gussy boy was one of a kind. A sweet, loving and hilarious soul who packed a ton of laughs and life into his short 3 years. Was never a cat guy, but loved Gus since I saw him under a porch as a tiny nugget and would bring him haddock.
One morning found that baby alone next to his Ma's dead body and HAD to take him in. He was too little to make a go of it alone, and was too curious to leave. He would often take baby steps right toward traffic to investigate the noise. Lol. Glad I found him coz he was so smart and different than any cat I had ever encountered. He ALWAYS wanted to be part of things and in the mix. Really outgoing. Always wanted to play and would literally stand on his hind legs and reach up to you until you picked him up. Would even follow you from room to room, doing that "pick me up" dance and yelling until you did and paid him some attention. So cool and adorable.
I can't bring myself to get into the gory details, but after seeing the myriad of others' horrifyingly similar problems, symptoms, ends etc. I know that this poison in a can killed my little bro. The only time I ever fed it to him, he was dead days later. He had never been sick before that. Was up to date on all vaccinations, fixed and regularly checked. Whoever at 9Lives is responsible, I wish you all the worst possible and an end in which you die screaming! I thought at the beginning "oh my, what have I done wrong" but after thinking again in the years we have been doing feline rescue never has this ever happened. I have more than enough experience caring for animals and have to convince myself this is not my fault.
Not sure why the 6th one survived the night other than I went and got another brand. She has since eaten twice and still alive. I could understand if they were all from 1 litter and would think maybe their mom passed something on but these were separate litters eating the same food. It's the only explanation we have. My 11 year old cat who normally eats a lot and isn't picky was also eating much less than usual. I have a tripod male 7 year old male cat who I have had for 6. Someone abandoned him and left him for dead. I took him in and he's been the best cat I ever had. I usually give Friskies wet food too, but decided to try 9Lives because money was a little tight and 9Lives was cheaper at the stores. Worst mistake I ever made. My cat (Smokey) would eat the gravy and run away from the food. My cat eats everything and it was not like him not to touch his food. He started losing weight. He was having problems pooping. He was constipated and blood was coming out of his bottom. He was wheezing trying to vomit, sneezing, with rattling while he was breathing, and nasty gunk coming out of his eyes. Took him to vet immediately. My cat is now on amoxicillin for an upper respiratory/urinary tract infection. And now have to have x rays done next week because the vet said he's not gaining any weight.
Since I switched him back to Friskies he's eating everything again. But the vet told me there is a possibility my cat might have another tumor and this time possibly growing in his stomach. They also told me to stay away from 9Lives. I have also emailed 9Lives and they just said they would let their managers know and sent me free coupons to get free cans of 9Lives wet food. My cat could have died. I'm pissed off because my cat has never been this sick after he had his back left leg removed due to a tumor. I don't know who was my cat's owners before me but I wonder if they also gave him 9Lives.
Updated on 11/23/2015: I figured I would give an update on my tripod cat Smokey. His X-rays came out normal considering no tumors but his liver has a growth on it and the blood results showed his liver's count was showing low. So now he's on amino acid pills and a special can kitty food that he has to eat for two weeks, and then go in for more blood work to check his liver levels again. The vet told me there's a possibility he might have to stay on amino acid pills and this special kitty food for the rest of his life. I asked the vet about his constipation with blood coming out and he said, "That has to do with his liver that we caught it in time."
I have been telling people, "Do not buy 9Lives products." I don't want anyone to go through what I'm going through which is expensive vet bills and having to go through constant heartache and tears not knowing if I'm going to have to put my cat down when he is still somewhat young. I started feeding him the 9Lives on Wednesday, June 17 and he has been vomiting daily through today, June 22, when I took him off of 9Lives. He's had several bloody stools and has been drinking enormous amounts of water and acting as if he is in pain and frightened. I've just read these recent reviews of the product and can only believe that it is the 9Lives that is making my cat sick. Has there been a recall?

I bought wet food from a Rite Aid (16 cans, actually) and to my disgust, I found maggots. I thought it must be expired and an oversight of the store, but the can has an expiration date of 6/2017! So I checked two more cans, and yet again, maggots. I am absolutely disgusted and I will never buy your cat food again!!! I have written to business bureaus and turned to social media to spread the word and warn other cat owners. There is absolutely no excuse for this level of neglect.

I just adopted a cute cat and bought 9Lives canned cat food. Just want to check the quality of the food and I found this website. I went through all the reviews and was shocked about the bad reviews. However, my cat seems to love 9Lives better than the other cat food I bought her so I feed her half and half. It didn't go well for long. On the 5th day I fed her, as usual, after she was done, she came to my bedroom and jumped on my bed, then she threw up the whole food she ate. I dumped the rest of 9Lives and started to fed her other food. Now she is all well and has not thrown up since then. When the majority said the food is bad, you should believe that. Lesson learned the hard way...

Ok, this is getting old. I changed my 18-year old cat to 9Lives and now I have 12 cans of wet cat food with 1 teaspoon of food inside the can. Come on who is letting this happen? I'm on a fixed income, I'm 54 years old, baby is 18 (88 in her years). I want nothing but the best for her and I don't need my $$$ to be wasted like this. I buy by the month so now I am running out because none of the cans are full of the food. It's the Meaty Pate Super Supper and the Hearty Cuts with Real Chicken & Fish in Gravy - all of them have 1 teaspoon of food in the can. I was told you was a good co., and made good healthy food for cats. Well no one said you would charge full price for 1 teaspoon in each can you buy. I'm so disappointed with 9Lives at this time, and I will let all my cat friends on Facebook know about this. Thank you for screwing me over.

I have been rescuing cats for many years. And for many years I've relied on 9Lives because of the price and quality of the product. About a year ago all of the cats started getting diarrhea. I did all the tests for parasites which is usually the reason for bowel problems and they were all fine. I started giving them only bottled water thinking that it may be the water. Nothing helped. So here are 15 perfectly healthy cats having diarrhea constantly. Last month I hit some hard times financially and had to purchase the cheaper store brand food. I couldn't believe it. IMMEDIATELY the year long bout with the diarrhea had stopped. But I didn't add it up quite yet. Of course when I could I went and purchased more 9Lives (dry, I don't give wet) and the diarrhea came back immediately.
So now I am extremely upset. More than upset. My entire house smells awful, I had to tear up all my carpeting, spent thousands on tests and vet bills trying to figure this out and all along it was the ** quality of the food. I love every cat that comes to us. It broke my heart to see them so sick. At least now I know what the problem is.

First, let me say that I am a cat lover and have had them and adored them for many, many years!! I would do anything for my babies. But, this cat food has not been a problem for my cats at all. A very important point I want to mention is, as I was reading through these reviews all that I read consistently said that they had 'just bought', 'recently bought', 'bought a few weeks ago' the subject cat food and then complained of their cats having urinary tract issues. The problem is that you started it on them TOO LATE! They were already developing this problem from the previous cat foods you gave them and by the time you bought the urinary tract formula it was just too late to help them!
I know this b/c many years ago, my baby Studley got a urinary tract infection which is excruciatingly painful for the cat and costs in the thousands of dollars to correct. I had the surgery for my boy - b/c there was no other choice in my mind - and the vet said to start buying the urinary tract formula for my cats - and ONLY that!! Ever since then - and this was about 25-30 YEARS ago - I have been through a few sets of cats since then [I usually have three at a time! ;-)] and NONE of my cats have ever had this problem again since feeding them the urinary tract formula cat food [both wet and dry foods!] exclusively.
So whether it is 9Lives or another brand of urinary tract formula, the point I am stressing is that you can't buy this cat food and it will magically and immediately cure the cat. It must be given to them their entire lives and then they do prevent this horrible and expensive condition from occurring in cats! So just b/c you bought some within the past couple of months and they develop this condition only means you started feeding them this formula too late - not that the urinary tract formula food caused it!!! This is VERY IMPORTANT!! It is not a CURE it is a PREVENTATIVE measure!!
And I have no idea why the urinary tract formula food isn't promoted, advertised, even mentioned much more than it is - b/c using it has kept my indoor only kitties happy and healthy for 30 years now! But sadly, the usual time most people find out about it is AFTER their cat develops this devastating condition and then your choices are limited and very expensive. I tell all my friends with cats and try to spread the word on message boards like this one, in an effort to prevent others from losing their beloved furkids. And I hope whoever reads this will also pass this info along to anyone they know who has cats!! Often this formula can be very expensive to buy but, if you search around a little, you can usually find a pet store that will sell this formula for a reasonable price. I have always managed to find some at a decent price for the last 30 years! ;-)
And if you truly love your furkids, it will be worth it to you to spend the extra time to find the formula for a good price - and the 9Lives Plus Care does fit into that category, so I would recommend that you buy it. And it does not matter if others are more expensive, they are NO BETTER than the 9Lives. They all work equally well as a preventative measure to prevent urinary tract infection in your furkids! I hope this helps everyone and pray that you all have wonderful cats that live long, happy lives and provide you as with as much pleasure as mine do for me!! ;-)

9 Lives tender slices with real beef in gravy can cat food. My cat is 16 years old. He's very picky and likes cans better than dry. About two months ago I began buying him strictly cans. He began acting strange at the same time. Waited a while because at his age was not sure what to do. After a while of noticing he was not improving I brought him to vet. He said it was probably something with his brain after doing a test for leukemia which he did not have. After thinking about how sometimes he would be better and his old self and at other times be totally out of it I thought why is this happening at times and that is when I thought about the cat food.
It was always right after he would eat and after a while if he did not get another can he would be better. Also I recall that a few weeks back going to our local Wal-Mart and there was not a single can of 9 lives on the shelf. I should have thought that there may be something wrong then. I suggest all 9 Lives can cat foods to be pulled from the shelves and investigate. Until we are 100% positive that it's safe we will no longer buy or give him any canned cat food.

I have used 9Lives Cat Food for over 10 years and never had a problem.....until two weeks ago. I purchased the 28lb bag of food from Walmart (which I normally do). I noticed that Miss Bailey had changed her sleeping location within a few days of purchasing the new bag of food. I didn't pay too much attention to it at the time. Then a few days later she joined me in the kitchen and it was then I realized something was wrong. She was skin and bones and had anal oozing. I kept her comfortable and in a quiet dark spot. I kept offering her fresh food and she wouldn't even try it.
Yesterday my son brought me a sandwich for lunch. I ate a few bites and went to check on Miss Bailey, she smelled the roast beef and perked up. I gave her my sandwich a little bit at a time throughout the day and night. I switched her to can food and she seems to be doing better. Miss Bailey was the only cat so far to get so sick. I have 4 others that refuse to eat the food as well. I just feel so stupid! I just kept dumping out the food and refilling the bowl wondering why no one would eat it. I am so not happy with not knowing about the recall. I work in a grocery store and still never heard anything. I don't have the receipt but, I will keep the bag and the pics I took.

I was just reading the reviews and it's a good thing I did so I can convince my mom to not get rid of my 11 year old cat. He was always good about using the box and was very playful, but since we have been buying the wet food as treats. They always liked wet food but 9Lives was cheaper than other brands. Now he won't eat it. My younger one will eat it a little, but for a time after he was weaned from his mother that's all he would eat was wet food. Anyway my older cat has started peeing in the closet and behind the couch. Haven't checked to see if he has crystals in his urine but that behavior has never been from him.
Important part -- I was just about to put half a can of OCEAN WHITEFISH DINNER down for my 2 cats and we add a little bottled water to help it last a bit longer, and when stirring it up I found a pretty big chunk of rubber. It was big enough to choke them if they were to eat it. It looks like some sort of industrial rubber seal. I looked on a 9Lives Facebook page with only 500 likes but it was the only one I found and someone else was spamming all of the posts with their experience of finding 3 fish bones in their can of food. The picture is the piece. It was one chunk, but when stretching it for a video, it broke since it's brittle.

I am sitting here in total shock after reading just 10 or so reviews. To say I am angry wouldn't even come close to what I am feeling. Angry, horrified, shocked, INCENSED! Several weeks ago I bought 9Lives Plus care which says "Helps Maintain Urinary Tract Health". I am not sure how long it took but my elder cat who is about 18 1/2 started crying every time he tried to urinate and not much would come out. I am on disability and couldn't afford to take him to the vet right away.
I am not sure how to recount my story so I am just going to put here that his sister who is a Maine Coon started sleeping a lot didn't seem to be acting herself. She disappeared and I have been under the assumption that someone stole her although I have had her 5 years and just couldn't imagine. Now after reading these other posts she is probably lying dead somewhere from eating this food! I have been devastated - my Trevor and my Jasmine are my CHILDREN!
It seemed that they both really liked the food at first but it seemed like less was being eaten and Jasmine and Trevor have always had great appetites. Jasmine ate quite a bit as a matter of fact but she was not overweight but this means she got way more of the food into her than Trevor did. I bought something else in the meantime and took Trevor to the vet. He is being treated for the very thing the bag says it is supposed to help UTI health. The vet is treating him for UTI infection.
He has been on antibiotics for several days and he has not cried as much, as a matter of fact he didn't cry for about a day and a half / 2 days and I really do NOT know what I was thinking. I am grieving for his sister and was thinking maybe she was the one who didn't like the food let me get it for him again. I obviously still had not realized what was going on. I feel terrible! Friday morning I bought and fed it to Trevor again and he ate it like crazy at first, but this morning (Sunday) he let out a very loud cry from the litter box for the first time in a couple of days. My mind instantly went to the food. Apparently with this particular affliction it takes a couple of days. He wasn't out of the woods to begin with but he had stopped crying now I have hung his life in balance again. NO 9LIVES has hung his life in balance.
I jumped online and this is the first place I found and I am just beside myself! I can't call the vet until tomorrow. I CAN'T afford the vet again, I am on disability and this has already cost me $150 AND Jasmine. I KNOW she didn't run away, she was indoor outdoor and her and Trevor had their own door. I no longer think someone cruelly took her either. I live on top of a mountain with a lot of wooded areas including a small wooded area right in my backyard. I am terrified but I will be looking for her around the wooded area. It is flooded right this second due to bad storm last night. After reading about the gentleman finding his cat dead outside I am terrified of finding her but it will be better than not knowing.
There is obviously no guarantee I will find her in my backyard. I am just at a loss for more words about her. It made me sick to read any more reviews so much sickness and death in just a handful of reviews. I can't believe this is still happening… What is going on 9Lives??? I forgot as well Trevor kept going outside and eating grass and throwing up for the most part it was phlegm but sometimes it was brownish. I know he has done it in the past but thru my grief of losing Jasmine, I was starting to realize he was doing it much more than in the past. I mentioned it to the vet and he said "we will do blood work if the antibiotics don't work."
Now I am going to call the vet first thing in the morning to see what course of action I need to take knowing my boy is poisoned! ALSO I had given my momma the cat food after Trevor and or Jasmine didn't seem to like it anymore and HER cat had to be taken to a vet for Urinary Tract Infection. I thought how strange they would get one around the same time! NOW I know why. His obviously started first but as I stated above, I was unable to get Trevor to the vet right away due to being on disability. A friend on Facebook msgd me and said how strange another friend of mine is taking her cat to the vet for a UTI. I am going to try and contact my friend asap and see what kind of food her friend is feeding her cat! WE have VET BILLS to PROVE my story about Trevor and my momma's cat. I can't prove anything about Jasmine but none of us are stupid here! 2 + 2.
I saw someone's review talking about maybe a batch being bad so I wanted to let it be known I bought each bag at stores that are 20 miles apart in different packaging. One was regular bag and this one is a resealable bag. I will talk to my momma later when she gets home see if she still has the bag. It may be eaten by now, if not I will obviously tell her to get rid of it and try and get a lot number. But that being said this is a very large problem since people are writing from ALL OVER. It's reminding me of the Blue Bell Ice Cream deaths. THEY pulled ALL products after human's dying. I wonder how many animal deaths will have to happen before 9Lives gets their act together. My animals have always been my CHILDREN. Jasmine being gone has affected me just as much as had she been human. I know there are people out there that understand that! They are my only companions!
I am checking the box for an attorney to contact me, I hope all of you are as well! You people at 9Lives should be ashamed of yourselves but obviously you are not or you would be doing something about this. I hope many many people find this site. I for one am going to start alerting as many people as I can on Facebook in person… etc.

Last week I bought the 28lb bag of 9 Lives Daily Essentials Cat Food for the feral cats I tend to. This was the first time I tried this food. My 2 indoor kitties eat "4 Health" dry cat food, but they always get a few daily "treats" of the feral dry. Shadow Ninja always gets more several times a day, because he's a little food machine who's "always starving" (at least he wants you to believe this so he gets more treats).
He has ALWAYS/constantly tried to get into the container of the feral dry... After 2 days of eating some a few times a day he's stopped doing it. He comes running full speed when he hears the cans being opened or treat pouch being opened... Not today though. I noticed yesterday, he has been off to himself and not as sociable... Today is the same. I am hoping he's just "under the weather and will be fine soon". BUT the 1 feral, the female is very, very sick. I noticed her lying on the back porch approx 2 hours ago and it appears she's dying. I believe she's a young cat around 3 maybe 4. She normally hisses and runs if you come within 10 feet of her... She didn't move when I crouched down beside her.
I looked out about 20 mins later and she was stuck in the large water bowl (trying to get a drink) and her nose was at the water line. I grabbed her by the scruff of her neck and took her out... You could tell she wanted to react, hiss, run, but she couldn't. I took her a short bowl of water and put it in front of her, then some tuna... Nothing. She sat with a weak wobble. 5 mins later she was back in the water bowl. I touched the back of her neck and she started freaking out (of course!) and was able to flop herself out of the bowl and take 2 steps before she lost all strength and lay back down. She's still there and sadly the way she looks I expect her to pass before morning :( I wouldn't want to stress her out by trying to crate her... She's a True Feral and would do more damage than good!
ALL the cats have been very healthy up until I bought this damn 9 Lives! The only thing in common between all the kitties is the 9 Lives! 1 feral seems ok and the other one I haven't seen today. I decided to do an internet search and am beyond horrified after finding these reviews! How many pets must get sick and/or die before Purina or whoever checks into this!?! I emptied the feral bowls of 9 Lives and washed them... I have to go get something else for them... I have approx 27 pounds of obvious toxic poison disguised as cat food I must dispose of properly! PLEASE don't feed this to your furry family or feral! An attorney can contact me if they'd like!

She assumes it's a allergy. Gave him steroids. Said could be the food. I really think something has changed not just new labels. They do seem chunky at times and smooth - others less or more juices. But my beautiful Maine coon is losing weight - keeps vomiting. His skin is getting blisters all over him. The Vet took a sample of the fluid from them and could not find any cancer. Since she had very long hair, she would spit up hairballs. I used to brush her, but couldn't with the lumps. I did try a baby hair brush, that helped a little. In the last few months she was vomiting, and in the last month, she also had diarrhea. When she just ate little nibbles, I took her to the vet and learned she had the tumor. She couldn't eat much and was almost starving. So we did put her to sleep. And the smell that came from the litter box was unbearable. I would have to scoop the litter every time they used while they are 9 lives. The smell was soooo bad. The second was a 9 year old yellow male; he had cancer of the mouth. I just lost the 3rd this week, a yellow female, "Momma Kitty". She had cancer of the bowel. I have stewed over this for months trying to determine what is happening. I give my cats raw meat, cooked meat. They eat very little dry now because of it. The only thing I have consistently given them is 9 Lives flaked fish in a can. It was the only canned cat food they would eat. I gave it in the morning as it was convenient. My 23 year old had never eaten much canned cat food as I could not afford it when she was young. Is it the cause? I don't know. All I know is it is the only thing that links the three, and none of them have had it consistently until the last five years.

I hope they didn't eat the 9Lives I put out, and got sick and died. I suspect that is what happened. I am so sad and sick over this!

I had a house cat that was 10 years old and in great shape. I thought I would give her a treat and get her a can of wet cat food since she has always had dried and table scraps. I bought a 4-pack and fed her and her sister one can. I saw that the sister got more of the can so the next day I kept her sister out and fed just her the can food. Less than half an hour after I fed her the food, she started crying and coming up to me and crying and trying to throw up.
About an hour later she was throwing up brown bile and still crying. It was late and I kept her in bed with me while she was still crying and throwing up till morning. By morning she couldn't cry anymore and was totally lifeless. I took her to the vet right when they open and they told me she was in complete renal failure. I had to put her down. It had to be the food that was the only thing different in her life. Thank God I didn't let her sister eat any of that can or I would have lost both of them.

My cat (Fluffy) is 14 years old and since she was a year old all she has ate is 9Lives. In the past 2 years the only flavor she will eat is super supper but the texture does not seem to be the same and she turns her nose to it. Some cans I open are juicy and smooth looking. Those are her favorite. Other cans look dry and a thicker - almost chunky looking. Those she won't touch. I seem to waste a lot. Is there something different in the making? I must waste 5-10 cans a month. Over 2 years this is adding up and I finally can't take it anymore. Just thought I'd let you know. I am sad and angry this situation and feel so bad for my cats: I bought a bag of 9lives Plus Care on 1/5/15. Since eating it, 6 of my 7 cats have been sick. It has gone in waves from cat to cat and includes: lots of throwing up - including blood in the vomit - and no eating and no drinking for a few days. 6 of the cats went through this in the course of a 1 1/2 week period. At the beginning of the 1 1/2 weeks I took the oldest kitty to the vet. I got special intestinal food that I fed to each kitty once they stopped vomiting. Then today (1-15-15) I took the youngest one to the vet because she didn't seem to be getting any better. Blood tests ruled out any illness they could have all had. The vet said the only other possibility was the food - the 9 lives Plus Care.
At this point I am waiting for this youngest cat to get over the hump. She is now eating a special recovery food from the vet. She also had subcutaneous fluids today because she was dehydrated, a shot for nausea, and a shot to help settle her stomach. Crossing my fingers they are all feeling 100% soon - too much for them to go through. (And it's stressing me out.) Thanks for listening.

After reading some reviews, I wonder if I purchased a bag with bacteria growth. They all have the same symptoms; vomiting, diarrhea, and now lack of interest in eating ANYTHING. It's unreal to me that so many other people have encountered these same issues, and the company can just continue to produce this food without the animal's health in mind. Wouldn't you check to make sure the good WASN'T contaminated with bacteria BEFORE you passed it through inspection and then onto the consumer? Are you cleaning your packaging machines? Where are the machines located? Does US law even apply? I'm doing thorough research on these things. Moving forward, we may be switching to a raw diet.

I'm 90 % sure the bag of 9 lives I bought made my two cats sick and killed another. I moved a few months ago and there were 4 outside cats there but only two of them stay at the house constantly and the other two eat and run. The two that stay I noticed were not acting right so I called the after hours vet and he told me to bring them in. He stated that he believed that have been exposed to some sort of toxin. He treated the cats and I also told him to go ahead and give them any shots they would need. I bought some litter boxes and brought the stray cats in my home and it has been two days and they seem to be feeling better. One and possibly the two cats that eat and run were not so lucky. I found one of the cats yesterday dead on the side of my home and have not seen the other one as of yet. I have been here 4 months now and there is nothing else other than the food I bought that these cats could have gotten into to make them sick. I truly believe it was the 9 lives cat food I bought them. Is there any way to have the food tested to see if it has an toxin in it?

Late in the spring my diabetic cat stopped eating...he is always eating ...he just stopped..would eat anything or drink for about 4 days. I knew it wasn't his diabetes since my other cat who is very healthy all of sudden stopped eating as well. Eventually I gave them some dry food...not the best if diabetic but needed them to eat.
I switched back to petsmart authority. They seems to be eating normally. Now I am feeding them 9 lives but they go off their food quite often and the one thing I notice is they are always hungry...almost like they have been starved. No matter how much they both are always hungry. Even my cat who is not diabetic is always hungry....she used to be a petite eater...just a couple of bites and was fine. I came across these comments accidentally but now that I have read so much it makes sense why both my cats stopped eating....I will definitely be switching foods. The last kind I tried was the flaked and was horrified when I opened all the cans in a sealed 4 pack and discovered rather large fish bones all through the food and I took pictures. If I had not seen the bones and fed those cans to my kittens, they would have choked and could have been injured or it could have been fatal.
All of my adult cats and the kittens get sick every time they eat 9Lives, no matter what kind. They get very loose and sometimes bloody stools, vomit and sometimes just white foamy bile. I am also going to treat them for worms as i noticed the longer they were on the 9Lives, the more they seemed to never get enough to eat and were always hungry even though they were fed twice a day. But it was the food went right through them and in unhealthy ways.
After researching the product upon finding it bad for my cats, I will never purchase the products made by 9Lives again and will be sending the photos to them of the cans with bones and demanding something be done even if I have to petitions, boycotts etc. I have always had several pets at a time since I was a child, and my family and I have always been big animal lovers and raisers. I have never seen a product cause more damage and do more harm to so many animals, then this company has with their food. They need to be stopped. Now about a month later 2 litters of kitten - totally different farms - have become sick along with one of my house cats who is nowhere around the feral cats but ate 1/2 of can of the nine lives for a treat. 3 cats, 3 cats with cancer!!! Need more, ok. Myself and my family have/had 3 cats. We live in different homes but all fed our cats the same food since they were kittens. Having had cats my whole life till they were to the ripe age of 16 years old I knew that when my 7 year old cat suddenly got ill to go immediately to the vet. This group of cats were the first that were ever given 9Lives shredded cat food. Thousands of dollars later and an MRI, my cat passed on the examine table. Bottom line Brain Cancer. My mom’s cat 6 months later Liver cancer, and now my daughter’s cat stomach cancer. All fed the same food their whole life.
I have since rescued a mother cat and her kittens and all though I don't have extra cash I would never give them anything that maybe cheap in price but eventually cost them their lives. It’s been a whole new world of research and trailing the other brands and I am very, very pleased to say they are doing well and I have become a very big advocate that your pets are what they eat and if you feed them Garbage and the unknown, you will be paying the price and they would pay the ultimate price with their lives.
Do your research. We are very fortunate to be able to have worlds of information at our finger tips and go ask a vet, but mostly pay close attention to your pets reaction to the foods you feed them - more than likely they will be letting you know themselves if something is bothering them. I use to keep ice cube tray of pumpkin in my freezer at all times for the upset tummies. Now I'm making up for the guilt of harming my cats (unknowingly) and started by making my own cat food till I felt confident enough with a brand that I could purchase. Long lesson learned. PLEASE learn from me. I can’t bring my baby back but I can help by educating others, and if it saves one little feline’s life I’d be that much happier.

Years ago I used to feed this product. That's until I started reading and understanding what the labels mean. This food is nothing but garbage for your cats. If you love your animals you'll do some research to understand what ingredients are good and which are not. Talk to your vet (if you don't have a vet then you're not being the best fur-parent you can be). I know a lot of people say "My vet always tries to sell me the expensive food" or "I can't afford the fancy food". Well - when you buy "cheap" food it's like feeding your kids Doritos for every meal. Sure - they think it tastes good and they can survive on it but it's not healthy.
It irks me when people get an animal that they cannot afford. If you want to adopt or save an animal off the street the first questions you need to answer is "Can I afford to get it sterilized? Can I afford to get it shots? Can I afford to have its teeth cleaned or other routine care? If I lose my job would I be able to keep my pet?" If you answer "no" to any of those questions then you should not take any pet into your household. Why not offer to become a foster for a local rescue or shelter? They'll provide you food - you provide the love.

I called the 1-800 number on the side of the can and the man who answered the phone was all but friendly and made me feel like I was somehow jumping to conclusions and if my cat was sick, it was probably not the food. I think that is b/s, since the cat was very hungry and ate everything in his dish before throwing up. If he was sick, he would have acted sick... and if it wasn't the food, the other cat, who is fine, would have eaten it. I still have two cans unopened in my possession. The company is sending me a shipping container so they can "investigate" but I am reluctant to ship to them any "proof" that the food was tainted, so I need advice.

I went to the store to get my daughter’s cat some food. They were out of what I usually buy so I got a bag of the 9Lives Indoor Formula. Needless to say within 4 days my daughter’s cat passed away. I would like to know how they can live with their selves killing our children's pets like this. My daughter had this cat since it was 4 days old. I watched someone run over the mother cat. She went looking for her kittens and brought back "Peach". She bottle fed this cat, bathed this cat and took great care of him. He lived to be over nine years old. After he ate 9Lives it gave him stones in the bladder and nothing could be done to help him. My daughter is devastated. She said it was like her child had died. I will tell every and anyone who asks me what kind of cat food to get, not to get 9Lives!!!!

I have been feeding my cats 9 lives for 18 years now. In the past few months, I have noticed I have not been able to find it in the stores as much. I have had 2 of my cats recently pass away and one of them very ill. They all have had the same problems. It's like they have neurological issues. They wobble and fall down and are very weak, sleep a lot. They have gone to the vet and the vet even confirmed neurological issues. I thought this was strange but now after changing food to Friskies and Fancy Feast, the cat that is still living has not had issues now. Wow is something wrong with 9 Lives? Was it the death of my other 2 cats and making the others sick? I have every receipt from the store for the past 24 years to prove I have always fed my cats 9 lives (don't wonder why). What can be done about this? I am very sad about my babies.

When I went back to the studio, I found one unopened can of the Salmon and Crab flavor. It had the 1 888 phone number on it. The customer service rep was really good. She listened to my concern very patiently and sympathetically. She did offer me coupons to get replacement cat food but understood that getting free stuff was not my goal. She took the batch number from the bottom of the can for the research dept. I asked if I should open the remaining can, put it in a ziplock and watch for the growth of any pests and she said that she would send me a prepaid mailer and I could send the can back for them to do that. That's what I wanted. Not free cat food, concern for cats who might be eating the food. The 5 stars is for customer service listening and being concerned.

I wish I had saved the can or the label. I'm so sorry I didn't. I'm keeping a foster cat in my painting studio. She has dry food and water but I give her wet every day that I go to the studio. I gave her Salmon and Crab flavor on Tues. On Thurs. I came to the studio and there were large worms in the remainder of the food at the bottom of the can. They looked like tape worms but not the tiny ones that cats get that are the size of a grain of rice. They were larger than the kibble pieces. I was so nauseated and horrified I threw out the can and Now I can't report the batch to 9 Lives/Del Monte. I've been trying to read up on tape worms and fish and apparently salmon has an especially heinous tape worm. But I'm no expert and I'm too freaked out to be reasonable anyway. How could a tapeworm survive the canning process? The cat was happy to eat the beef flavor. FYI, tapeworm infection in human sushi eaters has tripled.

A healthy playful kitty came to me several weeks ago. She was famished so I feed her the 9 Lives canned food from the store due to price. She eats tons of it for a few weeks. Then I noticed she was getting tired, laying about, sleepy and now doesn't want it. but was crying for food. I made her fresh fish and she ate it up. So today I went out and bought her a different brand canned food and she ate it up. She won't touch any of the flavors of the 9 Lives, I bought the kitty one too. I pray she is okay but will not be giving the food away... I'm chucking all of it

I have an 8-year-old cat who loves 9 lives Super Supper. Within the past year, though, I noticed that he would get in what I would call a "mood." He would lay on the bed in the guest room and hiss and growl at me when I came close. Recently, I put 2 & 2 together, and these "moods" always happened after he ate Super Supper (I don't buy it that often). After reading complaints here, my suspicions are confirmed. I recently bought it, and he's been sick for days. The other day, he hid so I couldn't find him for a half hour. I tried to make an appointment with the vet but they're closed today for Labor day. His tummy seems swollen and now he's walking around with his tail down. He eats his normal food and drinks, but he strains to poop. I checked the dish and, like some of you said, sure enough, there were white bony fragments in it that I couldn't crush with my fingers like the food around it. I have to get him to the vet ASAP tomorrow. Why haven't they recalled this stuff yet?

Hello! :-(. I already shared my complaint 3 weeks ago and that time my baby boy Hunter was still alive and suffering paralysis, blind and brain damage. In every day taking care of my baby boy, 10 months old, Hunter, he is getting very weak. He doesn't know where to poop and pee. Don't know how to eat by himself and the reason of all of that is he eats the 9 Lives can food, one can 9 Lives can food and that is his first time to eat the 9 Lives can food.
We take Hunter again to the vet and the same situation Dr. said nothing else they can do. And that Dr. is different Dr. in Indian River Vet and after that we call the Dr. in Harbor Spring to ask more questions. All the same answer that my baby boy, Hunter, has a damaged brain, blind, paralyzed. Nobody knows that 9 Lives can food has poison only after you will feed to your cat.
On August 9, 2013, my baby boy, Hunter, 10 months old passed away. My husband and I are so very Angry, very sad, crying and until now we can't accept why it has happened to our baby boy, Hunter. It's really hard to believe for us for what happened to our baby boy, Hunter. People have no idea how we love and take care our baby boy, 10 months old cat. He is our Son. We love him so very much. If anyone here reading this, don't even think about to try to feed your cat the 9 Lives can food brand. Even they post that on sales. Because, one day your cat that will end up the same of my baby boy 10 months old cat. Got poison, very sick and he died after eating the 9 Lives can food. They can't pay for how we feel right now for what happened of our baby boy, Hunter. The sadness that we feel. We just want justice for our baby boy, Hunter. Thank you for reading.

On July 27, 2013, he's first time to eat of that food, different brand, and that is the 9Lives can food. I usually feed him the Purina brand Friskies. Then, my husband buy different brand just to have different flavor and brand for Hunter. That day July 27, 2013... in the morning I feed Hunter lots of 9Lives one can of food in a bowl, and Hunter eat and he almost finish the one can. And another, the different flavor the same brand 9Lives can food in the other bowl before me and my husband went somewhere just for the day.
When we come home, that day.... we see Hunter on d floor lying down, tongue half out. He's like paralyze... he's eyes look different. He poop and pee on the floor. Then, we bring Hunter to the vet to have check up in the Animal Clinic of Cheboygan. The Dr. says Hunter need to stay in the vet for 24 hr. and also the Dr. said, Hunter got poison... of the food that he eat that day. And, that food is the 9Lives can food. Yes! My cat, my baby boy Hunter got poison of the 9Lives can food.
So... in July 29, 2013, we bring Hunter home..... paralyze, blind, can't poop, he sleep his eyes open. He is not my baby Hunter anymore, he always lying down on the bed, floor. I write this to tell the people to know, and people that have cat that don't feed your cats a 9Lives brand can food. I include a pictures of my baby Hunter. I have been feeding Lyle 9 Lives for YEARS. 1/2 can of pate-style wet food in the am, then he's free to munch on dry food the rest of the day (anywhere from 1/2-3/4 cup). While he still enjoys the dry food, he has started to outright refuse to eat the canned. I thought maybe I had a bad can, but it opened okay, the date was fine, and it smelled "like catfood should smell" (if you have cats, you know, lol). So I bought him Friskies, and he scarfed it down. Tried again this past week w/ 9 Lives Super Supper...refused. More Friskies...gone in 2 mins. This is a cat that aside from "turkey & giblets" or "liver" he will eat ANY pate-style catfood. So what's changed w/ the 9 Lives??

I usually feed my three cats Purina products - Purina One along with Fancy Feast. Yesterday I saw 9-Lives was on sale, 16 cans for $6.00. I was trying to be frugal. When I got home, I dished out the prime entree with real salmon. One cat threw up about 20 minutes after eating. The others had very loose stools this morning. I am returning the remaining product to Shop Rite to exchange for the food I usually get them. After reading the other reviews I'm afraid there may be something very wrong with 9-Lives. Very disappointed.

I bought a 24-pack of Nine Lives cat food and have been feeding my cat half a can a day. Over the last week, I now remember he had thrown up after eating, but a vet told me that sometimes cat's stomachs get upset. I ignored it. Today my cat threw up on the outside deck, so I got a glass of water to wash it off. As I was pouring the water, I noticed something shiny. I picked it up, and it was the end of a sea shell. I looked at the can, and it was the Ocean Whitefish dinner. This could have caused internal damage. I am taking the advice of one of the other complaints to call the company. I will be taking the left over food back to the store. I am grateful there is no harm to my kitty.

I have three amazing beautiful cats that are indoor 24/7. Due to financial issues, I was unable to buy the usual Purina brands. So I bought a small bag of 9Lives Dry indoor food. It was just shy of 3 dollars. I didn't think to much of it. I was just trying to feed my cats. I did not notice anything wrong with my female cats but my male cat on the third day of eating it suddenly went BLIND. It was a disaster. He went from the first cat to greet you at the door with loves and purrs to hiding and shaking, breathing heavy, jumping five feet in the air from the smallest noise or touch etc.
I tried using his favorite toys to calm him down like his little jingle ball. He didn't even look at it. So I used his laser pointer and he couldn't even see it at all. I had NO money to take him to the vet. No vets would front me to have him seen. They wouldn't let me make payments. I tried to sign up for CareCredit and they denied me. I tried countless programs and nothing would help. All I could do was hope he would get back to normal. None of the cats had anything to do with him at this point and they usually would. They all love each other but my blind cat would just hide and lay behind the washer like he was getting ready to die. He isn't like that.
SO I did research on his situation. I thought maybe hypertension, high blood pressure and corneal ulcers in his eyes. It all seemed so close to what was wrong with him. SO I thought how he would get hypertension and high blood pressure. I looked at the reviews and was disgusted at what I found. I threw away the bag of 9Lives so fast and started feeding him some yummy Meow Mix (which he loves) and three days later (today), I woke up to him pawing at my face, already purring and rubbing up against me. I hadn't seen all that in three days so I knew things were better automatically. He is playing this morning!!!! He loves his toys again!!! He can see the laser now!!! It took me three days to find out the problem and three days to fix it!!!! 9Lives is a joke. This is my best friend and a part of my little family. It sickens me.
He is the mostly black one.

We'd been feeding our cat 9Lives tender slices (chicken and beef) for about 6 months with no issues. However, this latest batch of food must be bad. He had horrible, weird diarrhea last night and vomited recently as well. I didn't connect it to the food until he refused to eat it this morning and only wanted his dry food (which never happens). I did a quick search to see if there was a recall and found these reviews.
