I bought on Etsy a card from Message Me This to be sent to UK for Xmas, it was on the 15th of December that I placed the order and I paid the expedited service to have it delivered. It is the 30th and it has not been delivered yet, no possible refunds, no follow up on my tracking questions and it will not be delivered. They have to go and pick it up, and I paid for the service... A LOT! It is very frustrating, I've been on the phone for more than an hour without answer and the notes received from Etsy are just rude. I will never buy anything. It costed me a lot, the person who was supposed to receive it, it's not in UK anymore so he did not get it and it has been stressful as hell. I honestly hope no one has this same awful experience and just buy it somewhere else. I would be concerned to have that kind of customer service. I just lost my money, time and my boyfriend never got his gift.

I contracted with Arna ** from ArnasLovelyBoutique to make a baby shower gift. She advertises she can custom make to your color specifications. After 10 emails, and I finally show her a sample one in blue (as the baby is a boy), she tells me she can't obtain blue fabric, and only has yellow. Do not buy anything from this seller!! SHE TRIES TO MAKE YOU BUY THE ONLY THING SHE CAN MAKE, AND CONTRARY TO HER ADVERTISING, WILL NOT CUSTOM MAKE anything! She is a fraud!!!

Ordered an expensive Christmas curtain that was beautiful and amazing online. When I got mine, the picture was so blurry it made you dizzy. I contacted the seller immediately and he said there were no returns (which was NOT listed on the Etsy Site). I said I would be glad to ship it to the printers so they could see it. He said to take a picture. So I did even though the camera auto corrects for focus. He said the pictures were not good enough and it went down hill from there. As a customer if you receive a product that is not what was advertised, it is your responsibility to jump through hoops. The seller even said that he has been taken advantage of before so he couldn't help me. I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY! Try calling them if you want to see how customer focused they are.

I ordered an Endoskeleton prop for my FNaFF-crazy son for Christmas in September. It finally arrived yesterday. (I live in the UK- so OK: fair enough.) Now, I paid thirty dollars for this thing so I thought it would be a nice, bespoke bit of craftmanship. A bit rough round the edges; but so much the better. What I got was a hastily glued-together bit of foam with a cheap and nasty plastic ball glued to it; its two halves held together with sellotape. My son could have made it better in about twenty minutes with junk we have lying around the house. I am flabbergasted that a company can charge so much and take so long for so little. Seriously: do these people have a conscience at all? I need to be banned from buying presents.

Seriously. Some of the shops owners here have very bad customer service. When you have too many questions and they assume you just ask, don't buy. They think it is a waste of time and ignore you. Like that bake goods shop ** (RUDE). Etsy should allow people to give ratings on customer service skill even without buying. Etsy is disappointing me.

I don't like how Etsy doesn't have shipping options, some online shoppers would like their purchases sooner than later. This was my very first time shopping with Etsy. I made the purchase in hopes I could contact the provider right away and request a quicker shipping option in order to get my package in before a certain date. I even said I would pay additional shipping charges. Unfortunately, the provider shipped my package before reviewing my message and now I don't have my package before Friday, it is coming the Tuesday after. I will return to sender for a refund since I don't need the sweaters anymore. This was my first and last transaction, and I will no longer be making purchases with Etsy. I'm very disappointed.

Once again I have received an email from the Etsy gods telling me my account has been suspended. They mirror the email, as I can see here, that many vendors receive. Here we are, Christmas season, and obviously Etsy has received a complaint that an item wasn't handmade. Strangely enough there are other shops who have very similar items to mine and they are open.
It has been my experience that making a complaint to Etsy is an excellent way to knock out your competitors for weeks. This is not the first time I have been through this with Etsy. When I first opened the shop back in October 2012 the same thing happened and I was closed down for 5 weeks... all of December and the first week in January. I am very careful in how I post photos and they are nothing you wouldn't see displayed in a department store. That is not the case with many shops on Etsy and as long as no one plays snitch on the neighbor they can continue on.
I have been impatient I admit through these experiences with Etsy, however, we are now at the end of the rope. As a senior I cannot afford to have my income which often isn't much, however, it makes a difference to come to a halt at someone's whimsy. I was in convo with someone who wished to purchase a gift from my shop for Christmas and now cannot since it doesn't show the shop as existing. So much for spending my first year tweeting up to 8 hours per day to get the shop noticed. This year has been a bad consumer year and now this. We get to the point when divorce is necessary... even with Etsy. To add insult to injury when you are contacted by Etsy informing you that your whole shop has been suspended you are not told which item they are focusing on. In the past I found if you were able to verify the status of one item, they then chose another and another. The same with photos as I have a mature audience shop.

I ordered the $17 telephone "flip file" expecting no major problems. Wrong. I received the product promptly 2 weeks later. However, there was no paper in it thereby making the product nonfunctional. I called the only number of the party who sent it out and she advised me this was the "vintage" model which did not contain paper but could be used as a decorative display only. She did tell me to try to go to eBay and see if there was any company who could supply the 28 pages needed so I could actually use the product. I finally found it at Bates List Finder Refill for about another $18 plus shipping. Beware.

This company has been a hellish night-mare from the on-set. Purchased LV and Gucci products via this site and non of the items were as described, to the point that I had my bank reverse the payment, with regards to one particular item! The other items were either "stinky / dirty," without serial numbers, even though it was being sold as new, not to mention their non-availability, which forces you to deal with their fraudulent sellers, while they further mis-treatment you, via the inbox conversation (B/S). I find both Etsy & the sellers, with whom I have dealt, to be seriously "trifling!" Lastly, because these were name brand items I have chosen to send them directly to the company, instead of returning it back to the seller, as I have already paid for the item and it is mine to do with, as I please, not to mention that the companies should know how that their brand is being very badly, misrepresented!

"Thank you for your interest in selling on Etsy. Unfortunately, it looks like the items listed in your shop don’t qualify to be sold on Etsy. Because of this, your shop has been suspended. Etsy is a marketplace with specific policies about what can be sold, and we take these policies very seriously. All items for sale must fit into one of our three main categories - Handmade, Vintage, and Craft Supplies. Upon review of your account, we found the following non-qualifying items: Commercial or resold items listed in our Handmade category. All items that you list in our Handmade category must created by you, the seller, or a member of your shop. As a result of this, we are unable to approve your shop for selling on Etsy. Please do not open any new accounts as they will be closed without notice. We’re sorry we are unable to accommodate your items, but wish you the best in finding a more appropriate venue for your items."

I bought a "vintage vase" from a shop called FunkyFreshSheik, in Worcester, Massachusetts. I placed the order on 10/21, that day they charged my card. And that was it. Never any tracking information, my purchase never arrived. I tried contacting the seller numerous times with absolutely no response, not even an excuse. Just radio silence. I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. But on 11/9 I opened a "case" with Etsy. Still nothing. I got an automated email saying the case was open and that was it. I left several messages within the case. Still nothing. So I "escalated" the case. Still nothing. Finally days later, I got a prescripted email from an admin named "Logan" that said I HAD to give the seller time to respond and that he would "check back in a week".
Maybe I'm wrong here, but why am I being treated like I'm the one in the wrong, when someone STOLE from me? Etsy has refused to do anything. I've requested a call back numerous times, I've emailed any email address associated with Etsy that I can find. And no one has even bothered to acknowledge me. We've been selling on Etsy for years. But this year we sold the most ever. I think 300 sales in 2 months. Everything was fine. But buyers began being... Finicky. Customers were writing in their notes things like "I need this in four days" (The shipping info is contained in our listings... Which are made to order and custom.) When the customer was contacted to rush the order... They never responded. If they received it in say 5 days... They'd write a bad review. Or lie about delivery. When it can be verified thru USPS. We even had a customer open a non delivery case when they received their item... Which was verified thru usps confirmation and the case was closed by etsy.
Several customers ordered handmade custom items and had them shipped to the wrong/old address. Usps delivery confirmation said... Addressee moved without a forwarding address and one the address was too old to forward. Both customers wanted another one sent to their correct addresses... Immediately. Not after receiving the package back to us... And resending. And they refused to pay additional shipping.
Both then filed non deliveries. We can only ship to the address the customer provides for seller protection. Both packages finally made it back to our shop and ready to reship. Listings were made for reshipping... But both customers refuse. Etsy has yet to decide. But has sent us warnings on how they will close our shop as we had too many nondeliveries.
The icing on the cake is a customer filed a non delivery. Before the ship date??? Why does Etsy system allow this??? Again... More threatening emails from Etsy. We explained to the customer on this that we cannot proceed with their custom order unless the customer closes the complaint because Etsy can side with the customer and we will be without product and money. Customer refused... So we had no choice but to refund. Then... More threatening emails from Etsy on how we have too many non deliveries and they can close us. Please do. We were recently accepted in Amazons handmade and are done with etsy and their crazy customers.

My shop was shut down due to another seller that thought I was someone else and vowed to get my shop closed on Etsy. I told her that I was not the person that she thought I was. I showed Etsy the exact messages and they did absolutely nothing. Then the other seller told Etsy to not allow me to contact her. Etsy told me that if I contacted her, then I would get a violation notice. So the other seller kept sending false infringement notices to Etsy and they shut me down.
I had to try to see what I was doing wrong through Etsy since I could not contact the other seller. They would not tell me. They said to get with the other seller about the issue. I told them that I couldn't because of the not contact clause that they have enforced on me. They said, "Oh yeah, you are not allowed to contact her due to our policy." I said, "Ok, so what is the issue she is complaining about then?" They would not tell me. They kept saying to talk to the other seller about it. They are absolutely ridiculous. Then I asked them, "Depending on a court outcome in my favor against the other seller, would my shop get reopened?" They said, "We will make no guarantees. It is up to us to reopen it." I sold a pretty brown wool blanket that had three brown bands dark to light at each end. I supplied 7 pictures total and stated to the buyer that the blanket was "completely out of square". The purchase was made on August 19th delivered on 0824. On September 2nd I received an email from the buyer asking for a refund because of the out of squareness and she stated "the vintage wool blanket had an odor". Given the buyer was made clearly aware of the out of squareness of the blanket and since I know the lengths I go to ensuring the cleanliness and freshness of my linens. Whatever odor it had was very minor and associated with what is to be expected with the purchase of a vintage wool blanket. For these lukewarm reasons I denied the refund but did offer a store credit for the amount of the purchase.
So the buyer's first email was on 0902, and my reply was on 0903. The next I hear from the buyer is seven days after my reply on 0910. In this email the buyer writes quite a bit of information about how she is entitled to a refund, and disputing the possible fixes I had posed in the prior email before she states matter of factly that the blanket has a hole in it and is moth eaten. She then goes on to tell me all the ways she can destroy me with bad reviews, creating something called a "case" with Etsy, of which I knew nothing about. She wraps up the email giving me the two options she has chosen to offer me to obtain the one resolution acceptable to her, a refund. She states "we can do this the easy way or the hard way". So before I even know what's going on, I learn that I have been found guilty by Etsy of selling an item that differs significantly from the item listed, and I am being bullied by Etsy to refund the buyer.
The buyer obviously familiar with how Etsy cases work since she knew the terminology enjoyed private conversations with the arbitrator to explain how side of the dispute, whereas I had NO opportunity to speak with him one on one AT ALL before or after the case was decided. It was painfully obvious how biased The Drew Character was against me judging by how I was railroaded and shut out with no compunction whatsoever. Without being given any information my store was semi-shut down approx 24 hours later.
Because of the lack of any regulatory involvement or any common sense or professional business people at the helm, Etsy finds it perfectly fair and reasonable to hear one side of a dispute and then make a judgement. Consequently, the buyer neglects to tell the ignorant of how to conduct a fraud investigation or arbitrate a dispute arbitrator Drew that she only reported damage to the blanket after her refund request was denied. That she managed to somehow forget to include in her original refund request email that I committed a very serious offense, guaranteed to result in a refund, the selling of a concealed damaged item.
She also neglected to or lied that she had the blanket from August 24th until September 10th to complain about the blanket with a hole in it and moth damage that I had bold faced lied to her about it being in "breech and blemish" free. All she complained about originally was about an odor and its out of squareness that she was told about presale. Nor did she point out that it wasn't until eight days after her first email about the refund request did she mention the damage halfway through this 2nd email, 17 days after having the blanket did she complain about damage.
In the time after the determination was made I entered all the facts committed by the buyer to expose how things really went down. Drew advised thanks for the info and the pics but it's not going to make us reconsider doing any investigating into your stated facts. Drew also stated several times that if I did not refund the buyer by 1015 Etsy was going to refund the buyer. Once I replied "yes, Etsy IS going to have to refund the buyer because it's not coming out of my pocket". Well somehow "Etsy is going to pay the buyer" was code for "we are going to forcibly refund the buyer by taking money out of your checking account without your knowledge or permission". I kid you not. By doing this I was overdrafted $40.
The best part is that when the buyer sees the FACTS I've entered into the case and she decides to address why she waited eight days after she reports two different not refund worthy issues before reporting the blanket had damage. She says she waited to report the damage because she had no idea I was going to escalate the issue like I had and that she was just trying to do what she could to protect my shop reputation hoping not to have to write a bad review. She states to avoid being aggressive. She didn't bring up the damage and moth munched blanket issues.
Cross my heart swear to die. This person to my knowledge of sociopathic traits, is a sociopath, no empathy, going to greater lengths that a normal person would to get their way, lying and lying and lying. Also she obviously feels far superior that us, narcissism goes hand and hand with sociopathy. So yep here I am. I only now know the futile nature of my relationship with Etsy getting back on track and that operating at this exceptionally low level of business conduct is how they choose to go system wide, my situation is not a one-off. I have EVERYTHING needed to create a case against Etsy, the buyer. I've documented EVERYTHING.

I purchased a pair of $250 pink emerald handcrafted earrings. At least I think they were pink emerald, but I am not certain now, as the stones faded from a light peach to cloudy white. I did a little research on gemology forums and blogs, and read varying information about pink emerald and how it fades when exposed to sunlight. I contacted the seller and asked her if the earrings were heat-treated and explained that they had faded noticeably and lost color and should I have expected this, and not have worn them in the daytime?
She referred to 'internet rumors' of this gemstone fading and said she really didn't understand what I was asking. It seemed that she was unaccountably dismissive and rather unhelpful. At this point I thought it fair to leave a review detailing my experience (not only this correspondence and the gems losing luster and color, but that when I received the earrings, one of the gemstones fell out of the setting, so I had to return it to her for repair). I am not pleased with this purchase, and I am not happy that I cannot leave a review as it's been over 60 days. A 60-day window for a review is a complete joke, as it does not take into account durability of what should be durable item.
If this were an isolated negative experience I would not have come here to complain, but this was the most expensive purchase that did not meet my expectations. I have purchased less expensive items that fell apart, but IMO, a $250 pair of earrings should be quality and these were not. I believe that ETSY is a scam and I advise everyone not to buy from this site as there is not enough customer support. Reading these complaints, it seems that there is not enough support for sellers, either. All around a bad experience for EVERYONE.

Before I even made it out of the US, the bag started to rip. I took all non-essentials out of the bag and basically had a wallet and passports and phone in the bag even though it is a huge purse/overnight bag. I sent the seller pics while at JFK getting ready to board the plane. He apologized and asked for me to send it back to fix. He assured me it would not break completely. When I landed in Spain about 8 hours later, I was waiting for my luggage to come down the carousel and picked up my bag, and the strap came off completely. I barely had anything in it and it had a big hole where the strap was. Again, I emailed the seller, he apologized and asked me to return the bag.
I explained that I would be out of the country for a few weeks and would send it upon my return to the US but now I was going to have to buy another purse as I only brought one bag and was without one. I tried to send the bag from Italy near the end of my trip but was on a limited time schedule and I don't speak Italian and was only there for 3 days (2 of which were the weekend). Also, I heard some horror stories about the mail system in Italy and didn't feel comfortable sending an expensive item especially without speaking the language and not be able to explain how and where I wanted it sent. When I got back to the US, I sent the bag back registered and insured. It took a while in Italian customs to get to the seller but eventually did. Since I could track it, I knew the seller received it but after about 3-4 days he had not notified me so I wrote to see if he, in fact, got it.
He said he had but now suddenly he said he needed to calculate the fees to send me the bag initially, to pick it up from customs AND his ETSY fees, and then would give me the difference. I immediately replied that I did not think that was fair as I returned the bag due to no fault of my own and that I should be refunded the full amount and the $49 I paid to return it.
Long story short, I started a case with Etsy and it's been a nightmare. It's like I'm a criminal defense lawyer for myself. The seller has made all kinds of accusations and lies. He even claims the item arrived back him soaking wet, even though he NEVER mentioned this to me. If it arrived ruined (which I know it did not) and he told me I could have filed a claim with USPS as I sent it registered and insured. The USPS stated that every person who touched the bag had to sign for it.
Etsy support/help have been useless so far. They basically have said that if the seller doesn't want to issue a refund they cannot make him. So now I'm out almost $400 and have NOTHING and he has ALL my money PLUS the bag. Also, Etsy has all their fees. So, I am the only one who is out. This is the worst shopping experience I have ever had. I will not be using Etsy again and will be telling everyone I know to stay away as well. How is it right that Etsy and the seller have all my money/goods and I have nothing?!

I am not sure it is Etsy having the bad customer service but every company I have dealt with on their site I have problems with. So I am not sure I will come back to their site. I do like however, that they have unique items for sale but all of their vendors have poor customer service. I have order items a month or more in advance hoping it would arrive and they do not. This is very disappointing. Amazon has done something right by giving you fast shipping and great customer service with communication which Etsy does not have. Please look at what Amazon is doing and follow their lead and you would be a great company because you have great products from people that are not from cookie cutter companies.

I bought a Swarovski necklace (from Egypt) for my wedding (mistake #1). I ordered it in white. In the picture she had white, ivory and beige. When I received it, it was ivory. AmbrosiaBridal (Renee) tried to tell me that it was white. Then she claimed I was blackmailing her. Then she accused me of wearing it and I just wanted it for free. I called Etsy at least 10 times to resolve this matter. I get an email out of the blue saying my case was closed because (Etsy) has determined that I wore it. REALLY??? I have NEVER been treated like that in my life. I have spent more money on Etsy, than Renee has selling overpriced necklaces. I will never buy anything from Egypt again!

Unable to leave a review on a seller that produced very bad workmanship and damage on a purchased item that was sent back and I was refunded through PayPal. Etsy stated I was past the deadline for leaving a review even though the seller was in the US and time taken for the article to get back had taken me over. The seller stated the transaction had been cancelled even though it hadn't! It was not cancelled at all, it was bad workmanship and damaged. Etsy should have intervened by not allowing the seller to put the status as cancelled. This is not protecting the public. Etsy admitted to seeing the attached photos and saw the conversation where the seller stated "actually, I don't see anything wrong".

Etsy has truly horrible customer service. Although I love their items, the only way to contact them is through an email or to open "a case" on their site. You are not allowed to "open a case" about an item until a month's time after your purchase. I have ordered two items through Etsy now, been charged from them, contacted the seller, and still did not receive my items on time. This company has grown large enough by now to at least have a 1-800 customer support number. I will not be doing business with them again and do not recommend purchasing anything through them. I support the shops on Etsy, but believe another company should set up the same model that knows how to treat their customers and put Etsy out of business. You're truly falling down on the job Etsy and you've lost my business forever.

I ordered an item from Etsy on Aug 18, 2015. The payment was deducted from my account and to-date I have not received the item though not through my lack of trying to contact the seller or Etsy. The information for my email is incorrect (probably my error) which I have tried to correct several times. However, you cannot request customer support, a return phone call, or even contact the seller without the correct email. You cannot get a password reset, or even change your email because the original email is wrong and it is impossible to change.
It is a vicious circle and there is no way to correct it via their website or contact Etsy to correct it because it will keep sending the resets to the NON-EXISTENT email. I have no way of informing them of this. Etsy has one of the worst customer support systems on the planet, and with the volume of business that runs through there, they should be investigated by the FTC for their failure to provide adequate consumer support. That's my next step... Don't use Etsy!!! Sorry vendors...

I opened my Etsy store, Vintage Vixen's Attic years ago. I had used the name in the early 1990s in some brick and mortar stores in NJ. Last week I got a email from the owner of Vintage Vixen Clothing complaining I was infringing on her trademark, which dates from what I saw from 2015, well after my usage began. She rudely claimed I had one week to change MY name. The 2 names are not the SAME - do not show up in the same google search of each name and no reviews have been posted claiming anyone has been confused between the 2 names. Her store has 4k listings, mine 30. Hers is a typical retail vintage store, where mine PLAINLY states mine is to sell off the estate of my aunt, who was a Broadway actress in the 1920's. Really, anyone confused here?
When I told her that I felt her demand was out of line and wrong and refused, plus informed her that due to being elderly and dealing with an illness that I was closing my shop in 2 weeks at the end of the month, she insisted she had the right to demand I change it in a week. I refused, as this would make it impossible for my customers to find me. She decided to act like a bully and complain to Etsy. Etsy sent me a notice saying there had been a complaint and I had one week to change my shop name. Seems they don't care who is right, only who complains first. I asked their legal dept to look into this to insure this person had a valid claim and was told they do not do this and can't give any legal opinion, just act on the complaint regardless of merit. Guess when you are paying fees on 4k plus listings, you have a lot more rights than when you have 30.

I created an account on Etsy as required to purchase an object from a shop registered on their website, only to discover that my account had been canceled. I contacted the legal department and got the following answer: “This is ** from Etsy's Marketplace Integrity team. Your account has been identified as high-risk based on a close review of your account information. For this reason, Etsy has elected to revoke your account privileges permanently. Your other Etsy accounts may be suspended as well. Please do not open any other accounts on Etsy. They will be closed immediately and without notice. We're sorry we're unable to accommodate your listings and wish you the best in finding the appropriate venue for them.” So basically Etsy reserves the right to cancel your account at any time with no other forms of explanation. Not that it is going to ruin my day but I believe consumers wanting to shop on Etsy should be made aware of that.

The reason I'm writing you is due to my shop close. Probably someone reported me for not having vintage or handmade items. A week ago, I got an e-mail from Etsy. I was so pissed of and disappointed and here is why. I paid my bills to Etsy every week, NOT every month as the protocol says plus I opened my store at April after 4 months they closed my shop. I mean, are you serious? I opened my store on April and you saw that now? Last but not least, a month ago, I check my Etsy bill and I realise that they had charged me 10 euros without a reason. I send a message to customer care to ask why and NO ONE ANSWER, although I paid the bill! Then I asked them if I can to open a new one with handmade peelings. Here is their answer:
To clarify, since your selling privileges have been suspended in this account for violating our policies, you may not create any new Etsy accounts, regardless of the content of the shop. Any new shops that are opened will be suspended without notice. We are unable to reconsider this decision, and this email constitutes our final communication on this matter.
Will make them really rich. PAY ATTENTION GUYS: DO NOT OPEN A SHOP ON ETSY, AND IF YOU WANT TO BUY SOMETHING, CONTACT THE SELLER FOR ANOTHER PAYMENT METHOD. Don't make Etsy rich. They are for the garbage!

I woke up one morning and found out that Both My eBay and Etsy account was suspended without Notice or Warning. I call eBay and asked "Why?" They claim that my rating are below standard, 5.41% of your transactions had defects. A months ago, 12% of my transactions had defects and I call them to appeal of how so many unreasonable reason of why so many item end up in my transaction defect report that badly damage my seller rating? They Claim that whenever buyer opens a dispute item end up in defective report until issues are resolve. I try to reason and appeal to them that money has been full refunded, buyer gets to kept the items. Buyer claim item not received because my item listing shipping time frame not yet met and how is that even consider defective items. Guess what they say? They say sometime the system has error.. LOL!
Issues has been resolve and they did remove few of the items in the defective reports which lower my transaction defective items to 5.43%. When I check again in seller dashboard, two of them items are suppose to be removed because issue has been resolve with the buyer, never removed it and that's how my rating stuck at 5.43% defective items. The Day they Close my account without warning by saying "eBay expect seller to have to defective items below 5% in order to sell on eBay." Now if they remove two of the unreasonable items, that would bring the rating down 5%. Are you people seeing what's going on? How deceiving they are, the kinds of excuse after excuses to remove seller's account when you try to reason with them. Unbelievable indeed!
At the Same time, My Etsy account was removed along with eBay, Haha! Wow, Unbelievable by saying I am not allow to sell DVD in the handmade department when I actually listed in the craft other's made that allow any item to be sold. You can check Etsy's terms of service. I try to email Etsy to give me a call regarding why they close my account, no return phone. Can you believe that? They claim I am not allow to sell DVD yet so many DVD items for sale on Etsy in all department and Why me? I didn't scam, mistreat buyers, Refund to buyer if item not received, courtesy. I couldn't think of any reason why they would close my account. I pay their fees and listing fees accordingly. If DVD is not allow to sold on Etsy then Etsy should remove all DVD sellers right? But Why Me? Something fishy is really going on.
Then I found out that eBay and Etsy are sister company. Seems like they are acting like dictator with any excuse to close anyone's account as they feel fit, unbelievable. Ebay Break all kinds of TOS, So many of their representative are not even aware of their own Terms of service guideline. Sometime seller knows more about their policy than the people working there. Sometime you asked the question, they don't even know how to answer you, twist and turn for excuse, sounds more like program machine.
Both eBay and Etsy Close at the same time and days, Wow... LOL! I must really scam and cheated eBay for this kinds of without warning suspension behavior right folks or it could be some powerful people on the top that dislike someone that speak against them or try to reason with them. I am just speculating, You tell me folks! Do I deserve this kind of treatment? Who are these eCommerce big boys to state that we the seller are a risk to their business and while they break all the TOS and get away with it. If it's weren't for sellers, who's going to buy from them?
DO not buy from these Company. They are crooks! I am here to tell you about my Etsy experience both as a seller and as a buyer. I have been selling on Etsy since it started. It literally changed my life, and the lives of so many others. I have to apologize TO EVERYONE on this feed who has been outright beat by Etsy sellers. However, I am noticing, that a lot of the things people are complaining about are not very creative items, and sort of run of the mill craft. Like rag banners, flamingo cake toppers, and Walmart fleece accent pillows. There are so many amazing unique items on Etsy. I spent years thinking up designs that would stand out in this marketplace. I wanted items that would have a low impact on the environment and huge impact on the customers life.
I am a seller who has sold nearly 2000 items. BUT!!! My feedback turnout has been about 50%. A lot of my buyers are from Google, and those people are usually one timers. But, I even have them coming back raving about my shop. If I cannot get my supplies locally, I have an account where I purchase my supplies from other Etsians. I have NEVER had a bad incident to date and I have been purchasing since approx 2008. There are VERY good dedicated shops on Etsy. But, even like any other website or even marketplace, you MUST do your research as a buyer. If you feel that want a little bit of extra protection, then you even have the option to checkout using Paypal. BECAUSE PAYPAL will most certainly get you your money.
I am human, and I ship, I have had a couple of things break in transit. I have never made my customers wait for their money, or fight for a dispute. I love my shop and value my customer. For me I feel that this experience has enriched my life so I show gratuity for my customer. Seeing these reviews truly saddens me after dedicating years to selling in this marketplace. But I assure new customers, if you do a small amount of research, and looking at key information right in the shop you want to buy from you can easily spot the good sellers. And I guarantee there are MORE GOOD SELLERS THAN THERE ARE BAD ONES LURKING.
Etsy proactively goes after shops. Once there is a complaint put in, you are given a reasonable amount of time to fix the situation, or the seller risks losing their shop. Look at the amount of sales the store has and compare this to the amount of feedback. Read the feedback, and go back a few pages or read it all. Look around on Social Media. History will usually help you identify the good sellers. I just want to point out, this same thing can happen anywhere. It can happen on Amazon. It can happen on a private website. I have had a horrible experience dealing with a website that appeared to be reputable, and it wound up being an individual with a professional looking website, and in this case, there was no feedback or records of sales to rely on.
We as shoppers have a responsibility to make educated purchases also. If you shop from Etsy you should look for quality items, GOOD HANDMADE Things are NOT cheap. If it seems too good to be true, it's a good indicator that the seller is either desperate or unsure about their skills. Like I said, I am sorry that these shoppers had this experience. I wish they had found our shop. Don't write off Etsy, because Etsy was founded by good, dedicated people like myself and I believe we make up a majority of this marketplace.

Etsy has no ground for business owners when it comes to complaints from customers. They tell you to put up store policies, that they will abide by the shop policy. This is NOT the case! Prime example, we had some people purchase custom furniture from us. Right away custom orders have no refund. The products shipped, one arrived damaged. All of our packages are insured for full value. The customer wanted to get a refund. We explained that the refund would not happen. The package was insured and to have Fedex pay them for the problem.
They kept persisting for weeks. We offered to remake the table, and even ship a product for free just to cool the waters. They refused, demanding a full refund. Etsy got involved and issued a full refund to the customer, $700 we were out for the order + materials and shipping for the goods they received. So we were out over $1200 just because Etsy would not stand behind the store policies and shop owners. SHAME ON ETSY AND THE PEOPLE THAT WORK IN THAT DEPARTMENT.

Admittedly I have taken awhile to make this update. The matter has since been resolved as the goods were received. My custom order plush came just prior to Christmas 2015, a true miracle considering I had given up on it ever arriving (it was ordered Aug 2014). It was accompanied by an apologetic note from the seller and a free plushie given in good faith. I really did appreciate this gesture. Each plush was individually and lovingly wrapped.
I am very happy with the quality of the materials and the workmanship. I understand that it was a more complicated job than usual as it was a custom plush, but I would have been less enraged with the wait had the delay been communicated by the seller earlier.
Overall, just glad I didn't get ripped off in the end!

Then overnight said person changed her mind and got very mean. Etsy support was a JOKE. You can't even call them direct. You have to go to the site to request call.
When they get around to calling they can't help you if you use paypal. WHO DOESN'T USE PAYPAL? They told me they would open case for me. Seller screaming at me she didn't have to refund in full! Etsy just sat there and did nothing. I took screen shots on her telling me she would pay me in full - it was all documented! Pictures of the broken item. I had it all. Updated on 08/19/2015: Seller said she was sorry and wanted to issue refund. She agreed at first to a full refund, then a day later she said sorry she didn't have the money to do full refund. Then I had to involve the Etsy resolve team because she refused me a full refund. I had screenshots of her conversation where she admitted 4 different times the box was too large but she had to make some money on this deal and it was insane for me to ask for full refund! Etsy trust and safety are worthless! After all the evidence I showed them with screenshots and pictures of the box and item, they side with her because she proved she mailed item to me. What?! That was all she had to do and they blamed my postal service for messing up package.
Week later I bought similar item from eBay from Belgium and guess what? Got here just fine - packaged great - delivered by same postal service. THis gal in France ripped me off! SHe wanted me to spend 73 more dollars to ship it back then she would issue full refund but not the 73 it cost me to ship back. How nuts is that? No support, Etsy sides with this dishonest crook. In mid-June I have purchased a handmade pillow from Etsy shop BlanketsByNaomi. The shop didn't state any specific shipping policies listed so I assumed it would take maybe a couple of days to ship it. Turned out that with Etsy, you can't assume. The seller lied to Etsy by stating that the pillow was shipped on the 7th of July. According to the USPS website, it was shipped a week later. I finally received said pillow ONE MONTH after having paid for it.
The pillow has finally arrived, in a grease-stained box. It wasn't even wrapped or enclosed in a plastic bag, none of the above. The workmanship was of a poor quality. Imagine a white-and-pink fabric sewn with a dark thread, done by hand. The dark thread was popping out all over. On one side, the pillow was sewn to close, again by hand and with the same thread, from the outside. The filling was uneven that contributed to the odd shape of the product. It looked horrible.
In retrospect, I remembered that the listing had only one picture displayed; the description stated "handmade." At the time of purchase I assumed that a sewing machine and a matching thread would be used in the pillow production. Nothing can be further from the truth. The picture posted in the listing was obviously not of the actual pillow that I finally received.
I went back to the listing and read the seller's Return Policy. It stated something about exchange within 7 days. Why in the world would the seller think that I wanted yet another sloppy product? After this pillow experience, I don't want anything from this shop. I want my money back. The seller didn't cooperate so I had no other choice as to reluctantly escalate my disappointment. I filed a Not As Described case on Etsy site that has gotten me precisely nowhere. The case was decided in my favor yet no money in sight. Then I filed same with PayPal, with the same effect. Only when I filed a chargeback with the credit card I paid for said pillow, I did receive my money back.
FYI: should you have a bad experience with an Etsy seller, you can simultaneously file a case, leave a negative feedback aka review, and file a chargeback. Yes to all of the above, done consecutively. My opinion: I will never buy anything handmade from Etsy. Should you decide to go ahead & buy anyway, you'd be taking chances.

I then reached out to my personal social media account and was flooded with people telling me indeed the products were very different.
She does not have any sort of return policy listed on her site and when asked for a refund she refused stating that if I paid for it to be mailed back to her she would meet me in the middle and fix it. However, I thought the entire banner needed to be redone. After asking her several more times for a refund she refused over and over stating that she was going over and beyond customer service by fixing something she didn't even think needed to be fixed. I found this business owner to be completely unprofessional. I cannot even leave a response/review on the product to warn others of what they might be getting themselves into.

First order according to UPS could not be delivered because of an address problem. Unfortunately I made a second order before I received the first then my problems started when I had to deal with the owner of the shop. This guy was a real jerk. He went on to criticize my displeasure with him that I had emotional problems and did not know how to address an envelope - none which was true.
My opinion - this was the worst experience of my life when it came to ordering a small product on the Internet. Bottom line - I finally got my problem to resolve but I had to get PayPal involved and when I finally jump through enough hoops with Etsy I finally got my money returned due to no help from customer service. You have to email them then after filling out a lengthy form wait on a call back from their customer service department. No way to get directly a hold of them over the phone - just a joke. Had to make over 20 emails to seller and customer service bowl to finally get my money back.
I'm going to probably have to get a new email address because seller continues to harass me. Beware. You might have an experience like I did with some nut that has your address and email. Very disappointed. Will never purchase another item through this company. Canceled my account but they told me when I cancel the account will not block any emails. Again beware of this rip off.

I emailed Etsy to say I was very disappointed in the quality of it for the money I had paid for it. I was told to wipe it with soap and water which would help. There was no change in it after I had done this. I am very upset and disappointed in this item and would strongly advise people not to buy it. Finally, Flinn responded, said that the shoes were 'returned to sender' again - this is impossible in Australia, because parcel delivery pick up warrants a number of notifications/reminders and I never even received one. I purchase online often and have never had this problem.
After being ignored again for weeks and weeks, Flinn finally responded and she said they refunded my money on PayPal, however this also never happened. I am unable to leave review on the store page to warn others and Etsy Support have done nothing to assist me. Now, the store are RESELLING the shoes that I purchased and never paid for! She had numerous open orders which she abandoned after they shut her down. I have been open less than a year and did not have the funds to refund her customers to hope they would reopen my account.
They are now holding funds hostage so I cannot even close my shop. I am totally screwed and my all 5 star customers now think I did something wrong. I cannot believe this is legal even though they say they can shut you down for any reason. Just because they put it in a contract does not mean it is legal. Saying something in a contract does not supersede consumer or supreme court law. They also kept all of my just renewed fees. After several emails, Etsy management stepped in halfway into the case. I had to open a 2nd case through Paypal to finally get my money back.
What was worse was that Bar argent continued to sell that fake silver bracelet under that "Napier" heading with no penalty or investigation from Etsy. Bar argent hand makes their silver jewelry so they are very aware of the metal content. Etsy's policy says that if a case is not resolved in 365 days, then Etsy will refund the money! Etsy has guidelines for categories that it applies in haphazard manner. They "ban" metaphysical items, yet allow them. How does that work? Who knows? Etsy acts Gestapo like and closes some sites down, while allowing others to remain open that are in violation, not only of Etsy, but of U.S. Dept Of Health & Human Services and other agencies, when a metaphysical seller does not include a legally mandated disclosure, such as: "This item is sold only to those 18 yrs. or older and for entertainment purposes only. No medical claims are made that would violate or supercede a physicians diagnosis."
These are legal requirements Etsy ignores. Their customer service is abysmal and their policies allow illegal claims, items and their customer service is extremely poor, unresponsive, and their management and staff seem totally out of touch, both legally and ethically with the common legal requirements and they act with discriminatory ability that amounts to throwing out some, allowing others to operate openly when the violations are in most cases, much worse. One day, I was unceremoniously shut down for selling a plain, blue kraft bag. Yes. A plain blue bag. At the time of the shut down, I had 26 open orders and $782 in my payment account from orders I'd received over the weekend. Etsy has not sent my money leaving me without money to ship my orders or buy supplies.
They have no problem taking their average of $400 a month they made from my fees, but are holding my hard earned money hostage. Do not sell on Etsy. Open your store on your own site. Words cannot express how upset I am at Etsy. I have been a seller on their site for almost 3 years and have 5 out of 5 star ratings. Today, I have discovered that they had suspended my account for not being in compliance with their rules... that my items were NOT handmade. Well, when I first started selling on Etsy, their definition of handmade included anything that had energy work added to it. I also do hand make 99% of my items and add energy work to 100% of them, so I still am technically in compliance. Anyways, upon receiving the email of all my listings suspended, I asked for a return of the insertion fees (over $22 as I had over 100 items listed for sale), and they had responded that they do not give refunds to items that are not in compliance with their rules (which all are still technically).
So basically, they change their rules and hide behind an invalid reason as to why they get to keep your money, which is still technically THEFT and FRAUD. I am disappointed beyond words. I put so much hard work into my shop as a lot of other sellers have, only to have what I have left, stolen from me under, in their eyes, a "justifiable" reason. There is also no number to call them directly for customer support, as you have to request a call from them. Even so, the call is from a different branch of Etsy and only relay messages to the person who suspended the account.

Etsy has compromised their original integrity and values. I first discovered Etsy around 2010, which coincided with me deciding to redecorate my apt. with only custom and handmade items. I had a wonderful experience as a buyer. Everyone was making unique awesome stuff, the sellers were courteous. It was a joy to participate in the design of custom-made items. I loved Etsy! Fast forward to 2015. I rarely buy anything from Etsy. It's a hassle to sift through all the sub-par items and find the true gems. Their search functions, well, suck! I have never had a negative experience as a buyer. I do have an Etsy store to this date has made $23. Yeah! But it's more like my creative outlet. Some of my posts in the forums were removed mainly because I called out the low tier stores reselling stuff from China and the obvious copyright and trademark infringers. And I did not even call them out by name.
I also have written more than once that Etsy will tank when Amazon Handmade launches. Now many of the shops in my favorites aren't there anymore. They have closed up shop and gone elsewhere. The real true honest craftspeople and artisans are LEAVING! The people who built Etsy. Etsy bites the hand that feeds it. And to Chad Dickerson, Etsy is/was more than just Etsy's API and platform. Without the people, what good is the platform? Dickerson talks the talk, if you watch interviews with him, but he clearly doesn't walk the walk. I researched it. Dickerson's Etsy stock is valued at around 71 million dollars (I guess that's if the stock doesn't tank before he can cash out). People who understand integrity and values know that compromising them is not an option. And they are cognizant of what happens if you do.

So, after having a shop with Etsy for numerous years, I have been pretty satisfied with their help and everything else. Unfortunately, I just had a frustrating customer "service" experience with them for over three weeks. After renewing a whole page, or more of my expired listings, the expired number only dropped by two to five. After trying several times, the site kept doing this, and I had maaaany items that had expired recently. At first it took Etsy four days to send a reply, which did not help; almost like they did not read the e-mail. Over the three or so weeks I sent a few other pleas for help, as my customers could not see almost 100 of my items; and they obviously would not have been able to purchase them.
The last person to "help" did reply once a day, however, she did not solve the problem. Her last e-mail said the problem was no longer an issue, when she had not solved a thing, not even crediting my account for several items that had been renewed twice, due to this technical difficulty. My last contact with ** asked her to forward my request for help to a manager or to send my phone number, since she was unable to solve the issue. I have not heard anything more.
I happened to accidentally stumble upon the solution to the problem, which had to do with the auto renew button. When I did not press this button, all items renewed properly. However, it is discouraging to know that when I have a real issue with my shop, one that prevents me from selling to my customers, that they don't put out a real effort to solve the issue. Once I realized it I emailed all three of the sellers with a change of address. Two of them answered immediately and shipped their items to my new address. One of the sellers was **. She never called me at all even after 9 days and 3 emails until I engaged ETSY's support system and she responded immediately (sarcastically) and told me she would not sell me the item I had purchased and was giving me a full refund. She had been listed as having sent the item but with no details so I had to assume that she had sent the item to the wrong address and needed to figure how to resolve the problem. Stopping the sale on her part is in my mind a cop-out. She wrote that she had had a family emergency that prevented her from contacting me. I've had my own practice for many years and even when there were acute problems in my personal life my business still had to be on the front burner. I owed that to my clients. Etsy started as a venue for handmade goods, vintage items and supplies. A Million or so sellers sold on the site just a few years ago. Then Etsy got greedy and let all sorts of sellers sell preparing for the big IPO. Even though Etsy was contacted several times about sellers that did not meet the requirements by other Etsy sellers. You have to remember the average age of an Etsy employee is 25?? They do not have real stores and virtually know nothing about what they are administrating. That is no excuse though. They should read the FTC laws on labeling. Buyers receive "handmade goods" that the seller forgot to take of the Made in China labels. Do they shut down these stores? No. They are making money for them. However, they shut down other true handmade stores without any warning? What business does this?
There are now $28+ sellers on Etsy. Everyone suddenly began making handmade goods. I think not. I find incredulous that Consumer Affairs has not reported Etsy to the FTC for items that violate the law. Etsy allow these items with many complaints and does not do anything. By willing condoning this, they are violating the law. Many sellers on Etsy utterly helpless. Stop complaining to Etsy. They will just shut down your shop because you didn't say something nice. Go straight to the FTC and file a report.
P.S. Really Etsy? When did you get to decide what was libel and inflammatory? You don't even have a basic understanding of the laws of what is real and handmade? Most of you have never made or sold anything. Sellers cannot even rate the buyers, so unscrupulous buyers can really work this system. Just be really careful. Don't get lost in the overwhelming goods for sale, try something else.

When I contacted Etsy about this, their response was "make sure someone else in the neighborhood didn't take it, that would be crummy, or call the post office and find out why they left it by your door so someone could take it instead of your mail box. There's nothing I can do about this". Worst customer service ever. STAY AWAY FROM THIS VENDOR!

When I went to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in New York, they scrambled my computer using cookies they had planted when I first signed up. BEWARE of ETSY. I ordered what was described as vintage brass items from seller. Received fake newly mass manufactured items, painted with varnish to simulate natural brass tarnish! Reported fraud to Etsy - no action taken, case closed, seller continues selling these items to unsuspecting buyers under the same description (vintage while fake). I find Etsy a very dangerous marketplace for buyers, in contrast to eBay who have cleaned up their act considerably.

I opened a case and requested a refund. When the Etsy administrator replied to me a week later, he closed my case and told me there's nothing he can do about it and said I can't get a refund because it's not their fault that my item has been lost. I contacted seller each time an order said delivered that I didn't receive. They repeatedly hid under a rock called tracking. I went to post office, my postman, police. Items were claimed in transit when I already had them. One order tracked delivery had a different item in box. When I started trying to explain tracking is not the bible. I couldn't get information re: Filing a claim. Finally pop up came up on one order. It was resolved same day filed. For seller because of tracking. I spoke to no one. I wrote a review and was informed it would be decided whether it would be used. Duh shut my mouth!!! If you get to a complaint you have no freedom of speech. You choose your problem from a list. The seller refuses to deal w/ me anymore. She has a monopoly on etsy of 4 succulent plants. Whatever happened to the customer's always right? I'd be happy to be right once.
It was me against tracking. Even when packages were hand delivered to me and plant they claimed was delivered wasn't among them. Tracking tracking tracking. My postman hand delivered mail. The police watched front of my house the time that my family is usually delivered and se claims the plants came. I ordered a ceramic dolls head from ** & ** of Caveman Designs on Etsy, paid $15.95 for product and shipping, but only received a broken product and refusal by the seller ** to refund my money. He said I needed to file a claim with the post office and he was not refunding my money for shipping. The post office said he needs to file the claim since he mailed it but they also asked about the condition of the broken product. They asked if I stacked it like that (see images) but upon informing them I have not touched a single piece, only opened the bubble wrap to take a picture, they immediately suspected foul play, saying they have never seen anything broken in shipment arrive so neatly and tidily stacked together, especially with three, yes three, layers of large bubble wrap. I have never seen this either. Seller still refused to refund my money.
I filed a complaint on Etsy and the seller remained ever so calm, as though he had been through this many times before. The complaint escalated to the "upper division" folks who promptly replied they would not do anything and I should file a claim with the post office because it is not the seller’s doing. They completely ignored the fact that the post office said ** of Caveman Designs had to file a claim, NOT ME, and further complaints got me answers like a broken record, repeating over and over and over that I need to file a claim, Etsy holds no issue with the seller, regardless of how the item arrives, and I need to file a claim. Etsy then had the nerve to tell me not to repeat anything they say to me to the general public or anywhere else. They are condoning the lying, thieving, cheating ways of the seller and told me "too bad!"
So, I found the names and contact information of the "Executive Team:" Chad Dickerson, Kristina Salen, Kellan Elliot-McCrea, Jordon Breslow, Mike Grishaver, John Allspaw, and Heather Jassy, as well as the Board of Directors and a few of the investors, as well as the Board of Directors and a few of the investors, and I am going to write them as many emails, letters and phone calls as I can possibly accomplish for all eternity if necessary, until I get my money back. Yes, it is only $16, but it is the responsible and judicial thing to do to make them all pay for either cheating me or allowing their seller to cheat me.
Know this Etsy and ** and ** of Caveman Designs, there will never, ever, be a day when I will stop other than the day I receive my refund, in full, including the shipping costs. I will be all over the internet, starting forums, posting everywhere I can possibly post, as well as file a small claims suit against the caveman and Etsy in Lexington, IL, and California. Etsy and ** of Caveman Designs are thieves. They lie, steal, cheat, cover-up, defraud, and are altogether corrupt.

On 9/18/14 I ordered a few leather wrap bracelets from Asai Bolivien. The money was extracted that day but a week later I received a message that she was on an extended vacation. Fast forward to January 18, 2015 - I get a message stating that my order has been shipped via registered mail (ergo, no tracking number). Well, today is 4/21/14 and still no package. Etsy is COMPLETELY unhelpful stating that they are not responsible and to contact PayPal for my refund. PayPal does not provide refunds following the completed transaction so I am left with nothing more than a bad experience.
The way I see it is Etsy is set up to assist thieves in stealing money. Since you only have 5 or 10 business days to file a complaint (based on country of origin) and only a small window of opportunity to leave a negative review, it’s impossible to get any assistance in instances where the seller simply doesn't ship your items. I consider myself lucky that I'm only out a small amount ($40 USD) as I've read some complaints where the loss was much higher. However, its completely unfair to hold the buyer responsible with absolutely no recourse when the buyer has been scammed.

A big thumbs-up to the Etsy integrity team, for pulling down genuine artisans and promoting blatant violators. Here is a sample: This search: ** Yields these listings, among others: **. All from different stores, with the EXACT SAME SNAP, nearly the same descriptions and prices. Did all of them have a simultaneous big bang burst of creativity and use their "creative designs" individually to come out with the same snaps and products? In ETSY's own words, this is prohibited- Reselling an item you weren't involved in designing or creating is prohibited in our Handmade category.
Handmade?? These are screen printed machine made bedsheets. One can order 30-40 pieces of these "handmade" creations from these stores at any time. This is just one example- there are countless such simultaneous bursts of creativity at these stores. Nor is this an exhaustive list of stores that are most probably controlled by one person.
Here is an extract from Labhanshi, another of "authentic handmade artisans". "All of the designs are our own and I have two great helpers that help me stitch. The quilts that you see are made up of vintage saris and painstakingly stitched by some women who live in rural areas. This work provides the livelihood for several families. The stitches used are small and delicate Kantha stitches which hold together several layers of fabric" So TWO people come up with 455 items of multiple pieces each?? And quilts stitched by "some women who live in rural areas" doesn't construe reselling? In ETSY's own words, this is prohibited: "Representing other artists, artisans, or creators (even if you're authorized to sell on their behalf)." And this is gross misrepresentation of the size of his operations. Also, these quilts are CHEAP IMITATIONS of kantha stitch, which is essentially from Bengal and not Jaipur, as claimed.
This listing is called "vintage": **. Really?? These are two-three year old sarees that are combined to make quilts! This listing clearly states that these items are resold after procuring from FAIR TRADE organizations: **. In ETSY's own words, this is prohibited: "Selling on behalf of charity or fair trade organizations".
This shop is heights...the owner calls himself Bhishma Pitamah, which is a mythological character from the Mahabharata and not even a real name! He doesn't even have his snap or anything verifying his authenticity as a seller....
This is just the beginning. Congrats on your IPO. I guess your new shareholders would be very interested in how Etsy has varied policies for different people, depending on how much commission they manage to rake up.

For a little time I have been selling on Etsy, but a recent ordeal wake me up and tell me I need to explore other possibilities. I'm a man so I don't ** but just feel my need to express, so if you are reading this thanks for reading. :) Long story short, I am a jewelry designer with a newly established business and selling my product via e-commerce platforms like ETSY. Some time ago I receive a custom order request, simple enough it is from one of my existing design just make in another material. I accepted and received the payment; purchase material, off to the studio then shipping, same old procedure and after I check the shipping status seeing the client received the order, I thought to myself "ok job well done". Now looking back how naive I was.
Few days after the item is receive by the client, I got a message from her saying that she is unhappy with the quality of the product, with few blurry shots of my product and few points she claim the product is defective. I wasn't sure what to made out of this and have my doubt (since I made and packed the product myself), but as a goodwill to clients I offered a fix upon return, and eventually a practical refund. All are decline by the client as she clearly state a full refund (with the item return to me) is the only way out. I cannot accept because product is tailor-made, I have to cover all material cost and labor if I fully refund the product.
Just imagine you go tailor-made a suit, all it paid for and suit is made, then you want to return the suit for full refund?! How ridiculous. My bottom line is a partial refund not because I agreed with client's claims, but simply as a gesture of good will to all customers and I believe this to be fair for my cost. All my proposal are decline and hence we open a case in ETSY from settlement.
I was faithful that ETSY would judge the case in my favor. Since I thought these are ridiculous claims in the first place, and the same case is open with PayPal and judged in my favor. I believe my argument is strong and valid: (1) the blurry photo hardly depicts my item well, if you are simply zooming on something (without seeing a whole picture) and claim as fault, you WILL found something even with a museum quality piece; (2) the order is tailor made so I simply cannot accept full refund due to my material and labor cost. I wasn't troubled by this case much at this point, oh boy was I wrong.
One day waking up and checking my account, ETSY admin determine my item being "significantly different than the product client received", without addressing to any of my augments, states that I need to provide a shipping address for the client to return the product. If I do not do so they will deactivate my shop. I emailed and called ETSY support and all I got was "if the case is determined there is nothing I can do for you". I didn't provide a shipping address (because if I did is like admit my item is defective), instead I asked the client to settle with PayPal first before I provide the shipping address, AND BOOM! My shop is shut down by ETSY admin without any further comment, just because I didn't provide ETSY the answer they want.
Since I can't sell with my shop closed, I ask for ETSY admin to active my shop again. They say ok, but only if you provide the shipping address and after everything are settled. So now because I want my shop back, I am being forced to admit to what I disagree, and at ETSY's end they don't even need to answer any of my argument. Being overpowered and unjustly doing an act without conscience, I wish I can say something but can't find my words. In one of the conversation, an ETSY admin even admit that she didn't read all the conversation and missed a very important point. But since now it's all determined all are done. More importantly even if I made my solid argument ETSY can simply ignore.
Until now my ETSY shop remains closed. If all "goes well" I will be will selling again in another month. During the course of this case I learned about my client's purchasing record and guess what, she is an expert and often open these refund cases. What I learned: (1) Don't rely on one single platform (the old say "don't put all egg in one basket"); (2) Don't be naive and stay defensive. My act of good will being interpret by the buyer as "if there is nothing wrong in the product then why would you offer a particle refund in the first place"; (3) In the economy world there is no right & wrong, simply strong vs. weak.
Final thoughts: Only large companies have the huge and fast overturn rate for super attractive policies (ie. 60 days no-question-asked refund). Small independent business simply don't have such capacity. As a consumer, you are entitled to exercise your rights to the limit. But don't blame about the world is overtaken by big companies; don't compliant you lose your freedom of choice, and don't say mega-corporations are evil controlling every aspect of your life. Making unreasonable demands can kill tiny independent business in an instant, a contribution to businesses monopolized by big players. Great majority of my clients are very happy with my product and I do have faith in humanity, my heart tells me don't go all jaded up. This is a live and learn for me. Again thanks for reading, I hope a case study would help other sellers, as many post I read provide me information I never knew before.

Instead I received an under-filled pillow that was filled with the cheapest most lightweight poly fill you can get. The finishing seam was all crooked and full of loops that if you cut would unravel the whole thing. The 2 fabric-covered boxes wobble due to one leg being too short and the cardboard is bent in a few places. I offered to accept a 50% refund from the seller because I like the colors and could repair all the items. The seller turned out to be a real nut job. She was all over the place. Last year around summer time I was heavily trying to promote my newly reopened shop and had set up ad campaigns. I kept them on until about early-mid fall. Well, I don't know how this happened but without my knowledge or consent, the ads started running again all of a sudden, accruing ridiculous amounts of fees which I had not budgeted for nor expected because I didn't know the ad campaign was on because I did not authorize it to run again.
I have not listed anything on etsy since Valentine’s day yet all of a sudden I owe a ridiculous amount of money for doing nothing. When I checked my statement details it said I was being charged for ads! I was shocked! I did not authorize this and contacted them immediately. Basically, they are telling me this is my fault that I am the one that did this and they cannot violate their advertising policy by removing these fees for me. Yeah, I'm upset. I don't understand why an organization won't stand behind and support their loyal customer of 5 years and actually help them when something crazy happens to their account.
I am very upset about this because I love Etsy but I cannot and will not support an organization that does not care about me as much as I care about them. I was building a following and an artsy family and now all of that is gone, simply because they cannot help me when suspicious activity occurred on my account. In 2014, there are 1.4 million sellers on etsy share 2 billion dollars per annual sales. On average, it is less than 2000 dollars per seller. Small artisan with decent sales have been constantly reported by many other unsuccessful sellers. And some of them got shut. Some people are laughing. But overall speaking. It will be hard for any small sellers to get decent sales on Etsy. The large sellers (especially US based ones) are selling 10s of thousands each year. Anyway more decent handmade sellers will be shut. And more factories handmade sellers will roll out more stuff here.
They are 2 identical US sellers sell just over 6000 pieces of printed t-shirts per day on etsy over Christmas 2014. Surely print a t-shirt by using machines are not handmade. Etsy won’t care. Cause all they care is to get more profit. I think the worst thing etsy has done is shut your account after a few months or after a few years.
I think they should verify every seller before they even allow them to sell on etsy. Not to wait till sell has already invest thousands of dollars. Some borrows money to set up etsy business only got shut when they finally start to make money. But of course Etsy won’t waste their time to verify each seller before allowing them to sell on their site. It waste time and Money. It is much easier just to kill your account at any time they want. By the way. Not handmade is not the only reason they use to close your account.
Other reasons include: Inconsistency shows in your account activity. Wrongly present your identity or location or size of your business. Pictures you used are not allowed. Buyer opened a case against you. Even your products have been copied by factories on Alibaba can cause your shop to be shut. Cause no one knows if you are reselling or they are copying you. It is PURELY depend the representative in Etsy integrity team to decide. Etsy is looking for IPO now. I bet they will exist for year to come. However, I don’t believe they will be anything better than any other independent brands or there will be better custom/handmade site/s rises. I hope the next one will be someone cares about small businesses. Goodbye Etsy.

Etsy shops are not handmade, 85% or more is purchased. Some companies are allowed to sell leather baby moccasins while another is not allowed. I think the double standards are very Wrong. The shops leaving a 5 star are the few shops that make Etsy all the money and they don't get kicked off.

I purchased a set of prints from a shop on Etsy, Adam's Ale Prints. There was a delay in shipping, and the owner, **, told me that she would be sending my prints shortly and then marked them as shipped in Etsy's system. When they had not arrived in the time frame she had stated, I contacted her and asked her for an update and the tracking number. While she evaded the question, it was clear that the prints had not been shipped as she stated. Instead of answering my simple question, she instead listed a barrage of excuses and no apology. I told her her response was unprofessional. She then apologized, and asked if it would be okay if she refunded my money and sent me the prints as a gesture of good will. I said fine, as I had already ordered expensive custom frames for the prints and would have to pay to send them back and had already paid heavy shipping on them.
She provided tracking information to me for these prints several times, and when the container arrived, it was empty - save for a vile and hateful letter, attached here. I contacted Etsy since she had accessed my home address through their system, and they said that while she violated their privacy policy, they couldn't do anything more than make a note in her file and advised me to contact the proper authorities to end her harassment. I filed a complaint with the Oregon Consumer Protection division of the DoJ, and when she was reached by the case officer to respond to the complaint, once again accessed my personal information on Etsy and began sending me threatening emails.
She was given my maiden name through the complaint process, and used it to try and intimidate me by referencing a very serious car accident I was in, which had zero relevance to her malicious sales practices. She sent me several more emails, and copied me on a rambling response to the case officer saying she was scared I had found out where she really lived (she sent her package from a different address and her real city is listed on her public Etsy shop page) and saying I was trying to get money from her (my complaint only said I had paid for the custom frames that I was able to use later by purchasing from a much nicer seller) and referencing the car accident I was in and saying my injuries didn't deserve the settlement I received - again completely out of touch with reality, not to mention completely classless.
I contacted Etsy to let them know that this harassment, made possible through her access to my personal information on their site, was escalating. They again said they would make a note in her file. Having read several reviews of Etsy, it's clear they shut down shops for much smaller infractions on a regular basis. The fact that this woman has, by Etsy's own admission, violated their privacy policies and harassing me should unquestionably be grounds to shut down her shop. Since it seems she does a high volume of sales on Etsy, I think it's clear that their lack of action against her has everything to do with protecting their bottom line and not their customers.

Therefore, I cannot say whether or not these 200+ views and impressions are valid or if in fact, Etsy's own members are trolling these pages and clicking on everyone's profile just to rack up the fees.
Needless to say, my account has been suspended because they want $156.00 in promotion fees from my store. I have never paid more than $20-$25.00 in a month for promotion of my products before. I did notice, however, that when I signed up with Etsy the second time around, I got more views more quickly this time. But again, no purchases, no business, no interest at all. I have attached all of these charts and spreadsheets Etsy has generated. As you can see, before January-December, I hardly spent anything for advertising. Now they want 10x as much for advertising? Ridiculous.

So, it's been a week since I reported a review left by a crazy upset customer that has the f and b word in it and I've sent 3 emails with no response. It's kind of weird to me that the customer support has time to sit around and search for things like "forever 21" and "mossimo" to make store owners take listings down (without bothering to shut down the stores that make thousands of dollars a month making nothing themselves by just buying pre-made accessories wholesale from aliexpress and eBay and running stores that actually hand make anything out of business.)
But I mean, they make so much money off of them why would they want to do that, right? It's not about the principles the site was founded on or about people getting products that have any quality at all, it's all about making even more millions of dollars at everyone else's expense. So good job, you all seriously have the saddest excuse for customer service from any site I've ever encountered.

I ordered 2 items from 2 different sellers last month. Never received anything from either. Have opened a case on one and trying to get a refund from PayPal, after trying to get a hold of the seller. Nothing there. Now trying to get a hold of the other seller as it says it shipped but I never received it. If I don't hear back soon I will be opening another case and asking for another refund. Do most have these experiences often? I started googling about this, and Etsy doesn't sound like it patrols this well at all. I don't believe I will ever buy through them again. Very disappointing experiences.

I have tried a few times to pay my Etsy bill and reopen my store. However, when they say they have sent me a confirmation to my email, and it shows they have the correct, I only have one, it doesn't go through, neither to my junk mail, I've tried a few times, and so I can't even pay the bill. There is no way to communicate w/ these people.

In August of 2014, I ordered a t-shirt from their website. On 8/26, I received an e-mail advising me the order had been shipped by tee4youfactory. I never received a delivery. I have sent repeated email requests to both etsy and tee4youfactory requesting a refund. I never received a refund nor a response.

I purchased some charms from CY Supplies on Etsy... They arrived stamped off center & not looking like the photos online. I tried to return them. The seller was rude, refused to refund, and told me Etsy always has her back. I went through my legal rights as a consumer and lodged a complaint with both Etsy and PayPal. The lady got nasty. She started sending me nasty emails, both on Etsy's conversation page and to my personal email. She somehow got my fiance's first name and my home phone number. I won the dispute and received a refund from PayPal. She has been prank calling my house since.
It's been a good two weeks since I won the dispute. Today, I received a nasty letter in the mail, and the envelope was filled with glitter. When I contacted Etsy, I found that they have rewarded this behavior by deleting my product reviews. This seller has a 5-star rating. I know this is due to having any negative feedback removed, and by bullying her unhappy customers as she is doing with me.

In 2012 I purchased a custom logo design from "Pixie Modern". As you can imagine, a custom logo design isn't cheap. The same day I placed my order, I contacted the shop to ask what the turn around time was. She told me that I could see a sample in 12 hours. Who can design a custom logo and produce 4 samples in 12 hours?!? I of course I didn't receive a sample in 12 hours but I gave her some time because I wanted quality work. 3 days later, I messaged her again to ask how the logo was coming along. I received a response that said she was working on it and that she had 4 people ahead of me. That's when I started to become uneasy, but she promised that she would have a sample soon.
5 days later I send a message asking if my logo was done yet?? No response. I messaged again 2 or 3 days later and I received an automatic email response that she had chicken pox and would return soon. The chicken pox must have killed her because I still haven't seen those samples. Etsy could care less. They finally sent me an email that the sellers shop was closed and wasn't able to sell on Etsy anymore.
Truth: Pixel Modern was closed before I even filed the complaint with Etsy. They didn't shut her down, she closed shop and moved on with a lot of people's money. Etsy basically said that the seller doesn't want to resolve the matter so they pretty much opened and closed my complaint without even attempting to help the situation at ALL. What a wonderful system. A customer opens a complaint and Etsy responds with sorry have a nice day. Complaint closed. It's pathetic and I would love to find pixel modern to release a little frustration.

I ordered a candle holder from Etsy.com and it arrived from Sweet Daphne Vintage, ** owner. The piece came broken but missing the broken part. Attempts to resolve this issue professionally were frustrating, and impossible. In addition, the shipping case in which it arrived was in very bad shape and the owner does not take any responsibility. I will NEVER order from this business again.

I paid for my niece's birthday dress Jan. 26, 2015 including the shipping charges. The store, Signature Collection B's Profile, didn't process my order on time. I was just informed today (03 Mar 15) through my email that I still have to pay extra shipping charges. The birthday party of my niece is this coming Saturday (07 Mar 15). This is very unsatisfactory. What kind of business is this?

Received a broken Vaporizer from seller. Stated on Etsy in excellent condition and stated it worked when she mailed it. Far from excellent. Came in a mt dog bone box with a lot of grocery store bags as cushioning. It came from California to Illinois. No damage to the box but the top portion of the vaporizer rattled and glass bowl had sediment in it. No electrical power in it. I paid $15.00 for item plus $20.00 shipping fee. Now she wants me to pay for return shipping to her to get my $15.00 back. She's crazy as a loon if she thinks I will spend another penny on this bad transaction. I filed a case with Etsy but I know they won't do anything just by reading these complaints. Lesson learned.

I wanted to review Etsy itself. And I wish I could give it less than 1 star. Why? Etsy is no longer about handmade items. Etsy no longer gives small crafters a means to spring board their home based business.... Unless your home based business entails buying manufactured products overseas, employing 15 people to slap a tag or ribbon on it and market it as handmade.
Etsy as a whole has quickly become a dirty word among the handmade community. It's a game of algorithms, lies, and bait and switch. Etsy only continues to draw in new shops because of it's ability to dominate Google searches. Overall Etsy has gone the way of eBay and has become a mockery of itself and alienated not only its customers (the vendors) but its roots.
