How does Checkr work?

Depending on your background check needs, you can get started with Checkr by selecting how many checks you plan on purchasing per year. You will then complete your personal information.

  • Professional: This level includes everything from the first two packages as well as unlimited state and federal criminal searches.

  • Alias searches
  • Employment, education, license and reference verifications
  • DOT services, including CDLIS checks, physicals and clearinghouse searches

    I can't believe a company would take so long for a background check. It's been 3 months and Checkr still hasn't finished my background check. It says on their website that it takes a couple of days, not a couple of months. It's crazy!

      They really don't do a fair background check. They find a name and birthday and run with that. They really don't look into it. Their search are fast indeed but inconsistent with the account and the harm it causes.

      Checkr is an incompetent company who can't get a background check done in over two weeks that I can perform myself in a matter of minutes. It is nearly impossible to communicate with a real person at Checkr and fully impossible to get a clear answer as to why they can't do their job in a reasonable amount of time. Checkr should be held liable for the lost wages of every gig worker who experiences actual financial harm due to Checkr's inability to perform the work they are contracted to perform in a timely manner. For reference, I am in Pennsylvania where all court records are available on the state's ujsportal, except when sealed under clean slate laws - which aren't supposed to be available to companies like Checkr anyway. If you are an employer in Pennsylvania, there is no reason to waste your time and money with Checkr.

      This company has been giving us constant trouble by not completing the background check. They keep showing the status as pending without even contacting the employer for verification. We have reached out to them several times, but nothing has changed. Very unprofessional and disappointing service. Not recommended!

      I used them for 2 candidates - first was ok, but on the second one they charged $95 for NY checks even though the candidate never lived in NY and has lived in Colorado for well over a decade. They did not warn this would be charged or give the option to opt-out of NY checks (they were clearly irrelevant in my situation!). I argued with them and they refused to do anything about it. NEVER using them again. Very low integrity & NO transparency on fees.

      This company is NOT LEGIT NOR DO THEY RESOLVE OR EVEN TRY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AT HAND... Start with logging into their site... I set up a acct but can't log in saying wrong password. I email them. (Because you never ever speak to them and chat. Well let's say there is a language barrier there.) I said my login is saying wrong password and you say you're sending me a link via email to reset.... 4 days ago and yet to get anything at all from them to this day! My background which I paid for and is for a house that the landlord had to pass is over because it has been DAYS AND STILL PENDING. SO MY REASON FOR ALL THIS IS NOW NOT NEEDED! BUT they stayed in says no refunds which I've yet to find anywhere on any paperwork.

      I'm mad and we lost the house my wife and I wanted due to these idiots. Yes I work hard for my money and I expect a company that y'all say is legit to give legit work 'cause damn it I paid for the service and yet to have it rendered service so I asked for refund and found out I'm screwed out 49.99 and pretty told to kiss their **! And that doesn't sound legit to me!

      This company nickel and dime you for services. They add on to your bill without your knowledge and run additional services. When you inquire, they send you a generic email, they don't have a number to call which is also a red flag.

      Terrible candidate experience. It took weeks (and even months for some) to complete a criminal history check on candidates due to undisclosed "court delays." One candidate even ordered their own records pull from their local county criminal records division and had it sent to Checkr and it was refused for compliance reasons. Email support takes forever to respond. If you are lucky enough to get someone on the phone it's obviously an overseas call center and not an account manager which is useless. There are tons of competitors, look elsewhere for your business's BGC needs.

      Bait & Switch! Spoke with a sales rep. Only need MVR's. They sold that to me and then when I get ready to run them, they tell me I must buy a package and MVR's are an "add-on". Went from 9.50 + state fee to MINIMUM of $29.99+9.50+6.00. SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!
