We signed up for Angies List almost a year ago. The initial cost was $51.00 a month. The salesman assured me we would get work with the lowest plan they had. A few weeks later, a salesman from Angies List called and asked how things were going. I stated we have not received one call from any of your customers, so he stated we needed to advertise more and that cost was in the hundreds of dollars a month, plus if we gave our own customers Angies List review cards we would have more reviews therefore more customers.

What he did not state was all of the hundreds of dollars I would have to spend would be in areas I don't even work in, because the area I work in have all the contractors on Angies List filled up. I will not give my own customers Angies List review cards that would be advertising for Angies List and from what I understand some people have to pay to send in a review. As soon as our contract is up with Angies List, we will not sign up again. I don't believe customers should have to pay for Angies List when the contractors are paying too.

I paid $99 for a Big Deal on house cleaning service. The owner never called as promised. Angry, I got in touch with Angie's List this afternoon (3/12). After waiting on hold for about 10 min., a computer voice said I could leave a message and receive a response to my concern in no more than two business hrs. That was around 2:30 EDT. Now it is 9:20 pm and guess what? Still no email! The consequences??? I'm mad as a wet cat!!

Ads say they screen their contractors and that contractors never pay to be a contractor... Lies! Screen the contractor... If the contractor is willing to fill out the form and PAY to play, they're in! Total scam. Check out review sites. Angie's List rarely scores over a 1 in any category and those they do were probably submitted by employees.

People, if you really want to find out the reputation of a company you want to work with, go with the BBB. And you don't have to pay to belong.

We received a negative review from someone who we didn't even have a contract with or provide services to. Angie's List has told us they will not remove the review. So, I will no longer be passing out the membership applications to our customers to join Angie's List at a discount, something Angie's List provided us with. Not promoting that site!

I was hired by a member of Angie's list to complete the inside of an addition built on the rear of member's home - an addition built by another contractor. I have an Afro-American employee who drives a diesel truck and some oil dripped on the member's driveway. Member then had called employee a **. I told member that I will not allow or put up with rude behavior and that we will leave the job site. Member's wife begged me to stay and finish the job with an agreement that when finish I would receive a payment toward the contract, just leaving some paver work to be completed. 3 days later we finish the inside of the addition. The member told me that "yes, I will make a payment." 5 times they stated that to me.

The day that I was to receive a payment, member had the El Paso Sheriff's office remove me from the member's property. I sued member in a lower court. The court ordered a State of Texas home inspector to go to member's home and evaluate the workmanship by us. The report came by and stated that the inspector had the construction contract in hand, viewed each item and stated in writing that the workmanship was "WELL ABOVE AVERAGE WORKMANSHIP." The court ordered member to pay me. Member did not appeal the judgment and the member did in fact pay me.. Member then posted on Angie's List a FFFFF rating stating that I did not install a concrete countertop under the gazebo. This item was not part of the contract. Member just made it up, member lied, and it goes on and on, slamming me with lies.

I call Angie's List and they told me that if I sue the member they will remove me as a service provider, and they did.... I did file suit in State Court for slander and libel for $135.000.00. The case is still pending and no court hearing, as of yet, and an injunction is also still pending. Angie's List is protected by the CDA for third party comments, but Angie's List IS NOT PROTECTED by the CDA for acting in concert with a member to harm a contractor's honest services, who has a constitutional right to sue a member who lies about a contractor. I won my case in the lower court and member stated the same claims as he did on Angie's List. Member lost and the member will lose again.

If I win in State Court, I will consider a suit in Federal Court for conspiracy and to smear my good name across the www and who willfully and knowingly with malice, harmed my business and to deprive me of my honest services. Uncharted waters is what I am good at and without a lawyer, I'm in pro se. I do have and I have always maintained an A+ rating with the true BBB. This case is pending and is for public record in the courthouse in El Paso County, Texas district clerk's office.

I received a bad review on Angie's List. This is from a person that never hired my company and cannot prove any type of invoice or receipt from my company. I don't want any affiliation with Angie's List and how are they allowed to just allow anyone to go on their website and post negative things without checking them out to see proof that a company was used by them? Not fair. We as business owners must have some kind of rights with this?

I have been an approved vendor on Angie's List for over a year. Yes, I receive telemarketing calls and emails from their salespeople but I am semi-retired and don't need a lot of business. I have received several referral calls from their members and overall, the results have been good. Considering that I paid nothing to be listed, I have no complaints. Then again, I haven't gotten a bad review either so I have not been on the receiving end of that situation. I also have a Yelp profile and while people do look at it, to my knowledge, I have never gotten any business from that listing. Local advertising still works the best.

I hate to say that but it's true in my case. I've used AngiesList twice, and yes, I willingly have a yearly membership and I found two reputable contractors through AngiesList. The quotes I got were reasonable and the workmanship was good. Having been burned more times than I care to think about by contractors, in my state anybody can call themselves a contractor if they get a license and purchase insurance. I'm grateful for AngiesList in my area. I'd be back to recommendations from friends if not for AngiesList and I got hosed by those contractors. For the most part, I believe in hindsight they did not know what they were doing when it comes to an old house but they wanted the work and were willing to wing it as they went along. Word of advice: Educate yourself on the job you need done before you hire somebody off any service to do the actual work, and BE THERE to monitor the work.

I cannot unsubscribe. Somehow (I cannot ever remember subscribing to AngiesList marketing email), I was added to AngiesList’s email list. Trying to clean up the email messages coming in, I've decided to simply unsubscribe to as many unwanted messages as possible. So upon receiving marketing email from AngiesList, I thought I could do as I've done with many other unwanted solicitations and simply click on the unsubscribe button. When clicking unsubscribe on the link listed directly in the marketing email that they just sent to my email address, I'm asked to enter my email address on file (keep in mind that this is the same email address they just sent their marketing email message to therefore it should be on file, right?).

After entering the same email address that they just sent a message to, I received an error response saying there is no such email address on file. After trying this several times, I sent a message to their contact email address, with subject that states "Cannot Unsubscribe" but got no response. After receiving another marketing message (almost daily), I sent another message to them with subject, "Cannot Unsubscribe: Second Notice!" Still no response. After receiving the third one and trying once again to unsubscribe and could not, I decided to call the customer service number. And after being transferred and on hold for 10 minutes, I spoke with someone named Patrick **. He was a very nice person and told me that he would help me.

I later received this email: "Thank you again for your call today, Joan. Here is a receipt confirming the cancellation of your AngiesList membership. Your account will not be renewed and you can continue to use your membership until it expires on 1/30/2014. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns. If you ever need our help in the future, we'd be delighted to welcome you back! Thanks again for being a member of AngiesList."

The next morning, I received another AngiesList marketing email. I sent another message, subject, "Cannot unsubscribe - Third Notice!" I suppose I'll have to spend more time than I care to in order to get this stopped. Attorney General and BBB, next stop! This does not make for a good review, AngiesList!

How many folks are having issues with Angie's List referral services? On or about a year ago today, a representative solicited a call to me for a three-month trial to Angie's List referral service. Although I thanked him for his time and informed him my sons do my advertising online as they are both web designers, he still persisted saying, "What have you to lose?" He said, "Please give us an opportunity for three months to earn your trust; if you are not 100 percent satisfied, simply cancel." He was pushy but courteous and polite, so I agreed.

After the three months, I informed an Angie's List rep by phone that I wished to cancel their services. They said that they hated to see me go and that the fella who contacted me was no longer with them; however, they would honor his commitment. It has been over a year with a minimum of 5 phone calls to Angie's List representatives along with at least 4 managers, all of whom have assured me that my listing and billings would be canceled.

Angie's List continued to bill me through my Visa credit card. I have filed fraud with Bank of America 3 times and have finally had to resort to canceling a Visa card to finally stop the fraud and harassment from Angie's List referral service. I have now received a letter from collection agencies which states I owe Angie's List $200 for past services.

I have been in business for 30 years and have yet to stumble on or be conned and cheated and annoyed to this nature, which borders on criminal and fraud. How many other small business owner have suffered the same type of harassment case such as mine and are there any attorneys willing to open a class action suit against Angie's List? If so, please contact me. It not the money I am concerned with; it's the fraud which goes far beyond the measurement in money in true and honest business practices.

We are a company on Angie's List, put there by their members. Three times we have received somewhat negative feedback & we are not even the company that performed the work. I know that we can post a reply to the comment but I ask, how come no paperwork/contract is ever checked to begin with? So anyone, any time, can post negative comments without someone doing any research from Angie's List if the work corresponds to the correct company.

We are a business that is listed on Angie's List. We usually get all "A" grades. We do good work, have numerous awards and care about our reputation. Someone called in and asked for a price quote over the phone. We gave him a price range and that was it. He did not ask for an appointment and we didn't hear from him again. One week later (after his call), he posted a scathing review of us and gave us all "F" grades. We called Angie's List to get the review taken down. They refused and said it will count towards 25% of our overall grade! Insane! We are considering a class action suit against them for damaging our reputation. They should be stopped.

I subscribed to Angie's List in 2011, thinking it would give me access to reputable vendors, contractors, tradespeople, etc., but the problem began when Angie's List did not have a service area for my zip code. Angie's List substituted a major metro area instead, which is over an hour from me, and provided a list of vendors, contractors, etc. that I couldn't use, because of the distance. I cancelled my membership because of this reason, in December of 2011.

Angie's List contacted me today, and wanted a list of vendors that I would recommend, which I provided to them, but I did not find through Angie's List. They asked me for the reason for my cancellation, and I gave them the aforementioned reason. I told them they needed to provide services and contractors in my area, which is quite large, and recommended they create a service region based on the zip code for this particular part of the state. The customer service rep and his manager told me I didn't know what I was talking about, and that I would have to stay in the region they had in their system. I was trying to assist them, and they were flip and rude in their response.

If you do not live in a major metro area of the United States, Angie's List will do you absolutely no good. Do not sign up for it, because you'll be wasting your money. Ironic how a site who boasts it is serving the consumer, actually isn't.

I am a paint and remodeling contractor based out of Alexandria, Va . I was seduced into 1yr advertising contract with Angies List as a result of long term solicitation and "factual" information presented to me prior to signing. During the contemplation period, I believe an inside call from them was made to me posing as a potential consumer using their network in attempt to make my decision to join.

Although skeptical, I agreed to advertise with them. 3 months went by without a single call resulting from Angie's List. I attempted on numerous occasions to communicate with my account manager about my concerns. It was suggested to join their "big deal program". This program is designed for them to gain 30% of on an already discounted promo service completely on their terms. This would be in addition to their monthly subscriber fees. I did not feel this would be beneficial, nor did I feel I needed to go to such extreme/costly measures to make their program work for me.

After continuing concern, my account manager stopped responding to my emails for a period of 3 weeks. It was not until I sent another email, that I was then contacted by someone claiming to be my new account manager. I was never notified of any of these changes before or after. I don't believe this to be true. After committing close to $1,000.00 monthly subscription fees (1/4 of contract), they had no more excuses for me.

After demanding to speak to a manager, I was contacted by John **. I began to explain my case once more, until I interrupted the conversation on suspicion that the conversation was being recorded. When I questioned this, he hesitated, and waived it off as "standard practice".

I proceeded to explain that I had no issue with being recorded, however this information had not been disclosed/consented prior to. This is an FCC violation.

I continued to explain my issues and requested to be released once more from contract based on their negligence, unprofessionalism, and unsatisfaction with results. He admitted mistake, and verbally agreed to release without dues. With the understanding/assurance that something would be provided in writing stating such.

After a few more emails, he is now claiming only to have agreed to cancellation of ad, not in waiving any fees or providing written document as agreed.
