I've been a member of Ancestry.com for years. For the most part I've enjoyed their product but the cancellation of their monthly membership is atrocious. They build their membership subscription service on the premise that you will forgot to cancel your subscription so that the automatic billing will kick in. To ensure that I am not billed, when I sign up for the monthly subscription, I immediately cancel it so I don't have the automatic renewal.

What they're doing now is unscrupulous and making it even harder to cancel. In essence, if it you cancel your subscription and receive the immediate message that it is cancelled, be pre-warned: IT IS NOT. If you don't receive an official cancellation email (which they never send) you will be charged for the following month. Additionally if you use their app (which is considered a "3rd party app") your subscription will NOT be cancelled. This needs to stop. Taking advantage of long time customers with unscrupulous business practice is not a way to grow your business and return your loyal customers. It's a way to tick people off and cancel you. This needs to stop. Shame on you Ancestry.com.

I have been a member since 2000. Love their records, BUT. LDS records are free but mostly not indexed. DNA has been a godsend as we have unraveled mysteries of over 25 years. Why am I upset? Glad you asked! Customer service or lack there of. Philippines? India? Caribbean? Who knows. Maybe China. I get so tired of trying to interpret their quasi English. You ask for an American and it’s always “we can’t do that!”

Try to contact corporate in Lehi, UT. Not going to happen. What phone number are you going to dial? Try to send an email. What email address? Ancestry is owned by the Blackstone group. They are nothing but rape artists and that is why they don’t hire Americans. Get them cheap and enhance profit margins. Don’t care if they know anything! Sent a letter to CEO. Probably never read as it sure wasn’t answered. It all boils down to how much money they can get from you and how little money they can spend to get consumer help.

The human chat was as much help as the AI chat. However, it’s not the reps fault that the company scams its customers. I thought Ancestry was a reputable company but my mind has changed. I was charged $99.95 on two accounts today for a service I will never use. Almost $200 of hard earned money just disappeared. Ancestry knows the scam they run — charge for 3-months instead of one so the customer doesn’t even get a bit of a warning that they made a mistake. Then allow them no way to fix their minor error. It’s gross! Ancestry should be ashamed of themselves.

Any problem is sent to a phone bank outside the USA. There are no phone numbers that link to an office in the US and there is no email to connect with Ancestry for help. Today, their call bank did not resolve my problem. Mid June I cancelled my subscription. I called upon seeing a charge on my credit card statement showing a charge of $42.55. I told him I had canceled it and wanted a refund for the charge that appeared on my card. He stated I may have cancelled the subscription and he believed I did and he would help me, no worries, to cancel the subscription and check on a refund. He canceled the subscription and sent an email confirming the cancellation. Then he put me on hold saying, no worries, let me ask about the refund. He returned and said policy does not allow for a refund and I had until 8/28/2025 to use the service.

I told him the reason I had cancelled was because I did not have time to work on the tree but I anticipated returning when the time allowed. And I wanted a refund. He said he could not. I asked for him to send me and email explaining why I could not get a refund. He said he would do that after our phone call. I insisted he prepare the email and send it to me while we were on the phone. He put me on hold, came back and said he prepared the email and it would take 24 hours to receive. I told him I never heard of such a delay in sending an email since I had just received one showing the cancellation. I firmly believe he lied to me

Tried the free trial of the “world explorer membership”. Only used it for one day and was unsatisfied when I learned that you have to pay for more memberships on separate websites to access related articles or images. Thought I had cancelled but apparently I didn’t and was automatically charged $42.79 for another month of getting no extra information. Called to ask for a refund a day later only to find out that those are non-refundable. Which as a very large company I’m sure you can see that my account has been inactive and unused since the first day of my free trial, I don’t see why I wouldn’t be eligible for a refund. My email was never even verified. On top of that, I find out they also charge a “early cancellation” fee of $25. A scam all the way around.

I’ve always wanted to try a DNA kit, but after this I will definitely be using a different company. I wish they had the option to leave and look at other reviews on their actual website so other people won’t be fooled into paying for a service that is basically useless. I don’t even have a receipt of the charges in my email, just money taken from my bank account. The only “receipt” I got in my email was for the “$0” original trial fee.

They wanted us to pay for all the work WE HAD DONE in an era where many resources were available online. Ancestry worked to buy them all up INCLUDING the records for various churches including records from my denomination the ELCA. This is sad because those records were compiled as part of our job by countless pastors over the almost 250 years of our existence in this country. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THEM is my warning. This review comes from a viewpoint of mixed emotions. I had high hopes with the advertised free trials that Ancestry offers, and wholly believed that Ancestry had the best of intentions for myself as I was trying to get a basic understanding of my genealogy. I could not have been farther from the truth. Ancestry’s membership plans have cost me over $400 over a short span of a year, which began with an advertised free trial from when I purchased a DNA kit.

I believed that paying with my PayPal would be a great deal by getting the free trial of the “World Explorer Membership”, but they do not mention that your bank account information through PayPal would be utilized without your permission in order to complete purchases. Furthermore, without my knowledge, the automatic renewal refund policy has a strict policy of “ZERO REFUNDS” if you forget to cancel. That means that the over $400 dollars that I spent not using Ancestry went straight to their corporate pockets at the expense of my ignorance.

I have a few issues with this. This service that is provided barely justified a $100 dollar price tag every three months. At most, I believe the World Explorer membership should cost no more than 10 dollars a month, as 90% of the information and data that they provided are U.S. census reports, that usually are faulty and do not properly identify the supposed family members.

After realizing how poor the service was, I decided to not utilize it anymore. An additional Issue I see with a service like this, is unlike other services that continue to remind you that you are paying for this service through text message and email, I got zero messages or emails that reminded me that I was using a paid service, but instead emails that were disguised as marketing junk mail. How is it that something so important that is so expensive is so easily treated like a cheap service? Am I as a customer not worth the effort to ensure that I am enjoying the service? The quality control here is abysmal, and I am extremely disappointed in my experience.

My suggestion? Begin ASKING your customers whether or not they are enjoying the service. Exercise all means possible to give a care. At this point, my impression of the Ancestry service is that of a company that hopes you forget to cancel their over-priced service, so that they can continue to make money from impoverished people. By deciding to refuse refunds for a paid service that will NOT be utilized, you are using gray area fine print (similar to the fine print referenced in the movie ‘Wonka’) in order to make a few extra hundred dollars off of customers. In my case, this cost me $400 that could have been used on things like my family.

I attempted to use their chat program but it's completely broken. The second you get to a human it crashes your browser. I tried to call their number and was on hold for an hour before the call was dropped. I then remembered that I had emailed support in the past and tried that. Lo and behold they've completely ended e-mail support which is just insane to me! So yeah, Ancestry stole $79 from me and refuses to allow me to contact them in any way to fix this issue. Absolute scam of a company.

I called and they looked up my account and refunded the money and tried to blame a family member but would not give me any information as to who, when or how the charge was initiated. I think they just did a random billing and hoped no one would see.

When I took the provided return shipping box with my sample inside to a Canadian post office, they refused to accept the label/box as it did not have a valid pre-paid method within Canada. So I had to pay for it to be shipped back.

When I called to Ancestry, a support person on Jan 31st 2023 wasted 40 minutes of my time on a call. The person had no authority to reimburse me, refused to connect me to a supervisor and did not provide any meaningful help, while constantly putting me on hold. I doubt any ancestry information results will offset this bad experience.

I cancelled the order 20 minutes after placing the order and got a confirmation of the cancellation. No one ever used the site/account: however, my refund is only $1. I chatted with an Ancestry "expert" on-line and all she could do was to refer me to another website (not ancestry) who wanted to charge me again to provide assistance. I found it difficult and the enjoyment element was gone for me. Because I hoped the program would be eventually improved I persevered for two more 6 month enrollments and then tried to cancel today. The short story is that even though I had not been using the program even one day a month, I did miss cancelling on the correct date and was 4 days late. They will not refund my $100++ which was automatically withdrawn (their policy) from my credit card. When I wasn’t a member, I paid intermittently for credits while researching things here and there but then found myself paying for a membership again. What shocked me is that when I didn’t sign up again for a membership and went to print documents that I had attached to people I could not gain access to them unless I paid. Even the documents that I had purchased with credits were no longer accessible. When I asked ancestry about this they said it was normal, members only. Angry and annoyed is an understatement considering the amount of money I have paid for during the 10 years of my researching with them. If you have paid, then viewed a document and attached that document to your family while in a membership, then it should automatically be paid for and accessible when your membership runs out. This is not the case with Ancestry.

I thought this would give me access to files of records not only in the U.S but also in Scotland, my main area of interest at this time. No such luck. Every time I tried to go back further than what I could put in myself, Ancestry wanted more money to unlock those records. I could have paid another large lump sum or enlisted in a monthly fee. What a colossal disappointment. As far I am concerned this is a great example of a bait-and-switch con game. I would never recommend this to anyone. All I have to show for $149 (a Father's Day special) is a family tree I could have drawn with the information from my mother.

I have been paying $100 2x a year for quite a few years now (that's on top of the initial $ amount you pay for the test). I was stoked to get the results. I didn't really keep up with it for a couple years, but when I went back to dive deeper into it, my whole DNA chart had shifted VERY drastically. And then it did it again a couple of years later...really big changes. So my question becomes, did they/do they know ANYTHING about your lineage/genealogy from the actual blood tests, or are they piecing it together as people enter their family lineage information FOR FREE on their own time WHILE STILL PAYING THIS COMPANY?

And then I was trying to add more information into my family tree, only to discover that I do not have access to certain out of country documents unless I pay them more money...Are you kidding me!? I am paying you $200 a month for ME to enter information that you and the entire country now has access to (You're welcome), and you want me to pay you $80 more to access documents that SOMEONE ELSE most likely added on their own time for you/the site? REALLY?

Sorry for all the caps, but I'm seriously annoyed. I feel like I put so much time and effort into it only for them to want more money from me to look at some documents - information I need to further my journey. It's ridiculous and unnecessary. This information should be FREE with our membership. I understand sites like this cost money to keep running, data storage costs, employee costs, etc. I get it. And yet, what is me paying for access to pictures/documents from Europe actually paying for? I could see paying more money if they were actually helping me to LINK to my family - but that's up to YOU, the customer, to do the research and agree or disagree with the 'hints' they give you.

I'm honestly done. A mixture of gratitude for having access to what I did and disappointed that they went all money hungry and drawing lines like the governments and sad to let this journey go. But I cannot go much farther with my lineage without going overseas, which costs more $ and I don't think they deserve it at all. Hope this information helps.

They kept billing me, and I receive no email saying that my membership would be renewed. They obviously have a very successful moneymaking operation. Why would they continue to use these deeply unethical scams to cheat people out of their money. I think there needs to be a legal fraud investigation into Ancestry.

I traced seven great grandparents' lines as far back as the 12th and 13th centuries, made numerous discoveries for research articles that I am working on and my family tree including being a Mayflower descendant. Many of the ancestors are historic and had attached numerous documents and citations to their profiles which have been eliminated without my knowledge. I have all of the documentation for this.

I began receiving emails a few months ago saying that this person had been added to my tree, or hints of people to add. Firstly, I did not add them and no one else has access to my account. Secondly, the people they were suggesting were great grandparents that were added years ago when I first began. At this point I logged into my account many errors, broken family lines and the only help was from their FAQ saying the basic “when you delete a person the tree is broken, go back and add manually”. I have never deleted anyone to cause this to happen. I am up for renewal in a few weeks and noticed that portions of the tree were missing which means I cannot download it to take to another company. I went onto their chat helpline and I was given misinformation.

I am sure I am not the only one this is happening to. To further illustrate, the suggestions where to input the information again manually which means renewing and basically starting over for the next year or longer. I spoke to a CS agent and she said that she would tape our conversation and tag my account for a review and that never happened. The responses are not specific, they sent out emails that are genealogy 101 and very generic.

Ancestry, like other genealogy companies, advertises that you can download a GEDCOM file of your tree. The agent assured me that the entire tree would download, but that is not the case. Only a small portion that is on the screen is visible. There are numerous other glitches in their software that ultimately ends up costing the consumer time that they will never recover and dollars.

Frequently features on the site say "not available at this time". The most bizarre change occurred recently when I noticed all of my relations were referred to as “step” ie. uncle, mother etc. The system, software or someone had added my father as a spouse to my grandmother. My grandfather is Walter R. ** and my father Walter F. **. As I mentioned before they were added years ago correctly and I have never changed anything. I will not renew with them and I am printing out and trying to recover as much as I can. I took screenshots and made printouts today and compared them with one of my completed lines that I made a record of in 2020.

There's lots of that false advertising when it comes to Ancestry.com. I had the DNA done and the information keeps changing in regard to heredity. I am curious to see how many other consumer complaints are out there in regard to this company. With all of the uncertainty this year, I want to leave this for my grandchildren and it was complete but now it is a mess. I see a lot of work ahead to undo the damage. The years of time and expense is basically wasted. I would like to know how many other customers are having problems. I saw where there is a class action lawsuit in the works against them. I hope that the negative reviews and and other actions will prompt some refunds and also they will take care of their software issues.

I think Ancestry is very expensive when it comes to memberships. I am a senior citizen on a very fixed income so can only purchase a short-term membership once a year or so. My complaint is if your membership is not current/active and you go back to look at a record such as a census you've previously attached to your ancestor, you are not allowed to look at it/open it unless you buy another membership! I feel as though I paid for the census record during my initial membership so if I have to buy another membership just to look at it, isn't that paying for the same thing twice? I understand not being able to look at someone else's record but not your own???

Horrible customer service. Called the supervisor (Jennifer) to ask what is going on and informed them that we have friends that went through 23andMe at the same time us who got their results 3 months ago. We told her that at this point we’re encouraging others to use them instead of Ancestry because of our experience and her response was literally “that would ease everything for us”. I like Ancestry very much for the basic tree creation. My disappointment came when I submitted my DNA. Getting the kit was a hassle. It did not arrive anywhere close to the estimated delivery date. I was concerned it had gone astray. I phone them and they offered to send me a kit "free of charge". WTF? You did charge me, I paid, and you did not send the kit within anything close to a reasonable amount of time. Please do not offend with your weak attempt to "handle me". I did not just fall off the turnip truck. The second kit arrived, wrapped in dark plastic, about 3 months after my initial order. The original kit arrived 6 days later, unwrapped, with a label on it, and my address incorrectly printed. (No wonder I never got it - I live in a small town though and a person at the post office had affixed an intelligent note, with a possible address which was in fact me. The indiscreet lack of wrapping of the kit bothered me.

It is my belief that DNA matters are personal and private. I was not happy the kit was clearly a box, wrapped in clear plastic indicating "Ancestry DNA"!!! So, sample submitted, results provided in a timely fashion. I understand that some people are surprised but I have a tree with a few hundred people in it and none of them are from the main group of DNA given by Ancestry... WTF? When you look at the explanation for this particular group, the range given by Ancestry is 0-35% (yes, that is a ZERO!). This is my main ancestral DNA group and it is possibly as low as zero. WTF? My third main ancestral group is France. I am not able to see a single French relative because, it turns out after I complained, that Ancestry.com has nil to very little brand traction in Europe! Ha!

If further transpires as Ancestry explained that Europe has very strict privacy laws in general and that France in particular does not allow any sharing of DNA info for any reason, not even entertainment, which, let's face it, is all Ancestry is. It is an entertaining diversion. The most disappointing aspect of all is that after one spends thousands of hours and maybe that many dollars as well, when you die, you cannot bequeath your painstaking creation to a family member. Like, for example, the offspring one may have created the entire tree for hoping they may enjoy it, tinker with it, and further develop and enhance if for say, the generation after that. Nope. Your Ancestry tree goes to the grave with you. Ha! What a disappointment.

Ancestry's free trial period charges you if you don't cancel before the end of the 2 week period. A customer support person told me you have to cancel 2 days before the trial ends or you'll be billed, so I suppose it's a 12 day trial instead billed as a 2 week trial. In my case I cancelled 3 days prior to the end of the trial, then was billed. I'd used the site only the first day or so of the trial, so I contacted customer support to find out why I had been billed. You need a confirmation email for your cancellation in order to get a refund, which I did not have, despite having already cancelled. They offer no refunds otherwise, whether you've used the site or not. While talking to customer service, I cancelled my site again and was waiting for the confirmation email, which did not come. I was told that the email should arrive immediately.

While trying to figure out what the delay was, I realized that the post-cancellation landing page, which is full of bright, promotional text and images, has a small "Cancel your membership" link. If you don't click it, you don't cancel. I very nearly closed the page, thinking I'd cancelled my membership, and would have been billed again with no notification next month had I done so. The cancellation process is designed to confuse you so that you think you have cancelled your account when you haven't. They don't notify you when they charge you either, so unless you see it in your bank records, you won't even notice. Then they won't give you a refund, they'll just offer to help you cancel your account.

Aside from their predatory practices, I didn't find the site that interesting. It had one document that I found useful, but it mainly just kept redirecting me to **. Once I'd made an account there, I didn't really need ancestry.com anymore, and I just started searching there. Mediocre and over-priced as a site, with deliberately predatory practices.

The new system for conducting family research is really horrible. It causes information to be changed constantly. It made tracing genealogy go from being an enjoyable past time to a frustrating constant battle not to lose information. If, like me, you have spent years and even decades compiling your genealogy on Ancestry.com and you're contemplating rejoining Ancestry.com, I advise you to "let sleeping dogs lie". Better to maintain what data you've already collected than risk losing information through a horrible new system. I would give the old system 4 stars (some disparity between Family Search information and what comes up in "Hints" on Ancestry.com but otherwise fairly stellar). The new system just doesn't work.

It does this in many relationships where I am absolutely POSITIVE of the relationship. I have heard 23andMe is more accurate in this sense. And when researching your heritage that relationship notification is important. Other than that the site is fairly straightforward to use. I do wish that the different ancestry sites shared information with each other. But I suppose if they did they wouldn’t make any money. So don’t be surprised if you do not match up to a family member if you use one testing site and they use another. You must use the same testing site to compare your DNA. But that’s true on all testing sites. It’s a lot of fun and I’m glad I did it.

I was given an ancestry DNA kit as a father's day present, from my daughter in June 2019. I had been wondering who my biological father was, ever since I reached adulthood. However, I did not want to hurt my mother, by searching for my father. I was raised by my mother and my maternal grandfather, who did a phenomenal job in raising me and my siblings. However, I still had that urge to find out who my father was. My wonderful, beautiful mother passed away, and my urge to find my father increased; however, I still thought it would be disrespectful to my mother if I tried to find my father. So, two years after my mother passed, my daughter surprised me and gave me a DNA kit from ancestry. I still felt guilty and did not open the kit for a week, but my wife opened the kit and convinced me to submit a sample. I am so happy that I did. ☺

The process was so, so simple. Ancestry kept me informed and updated on each step of the process. The process was also more expedient than I had thought. I submitted my sample in late June and by late July, I had results, and by early August, I had found my father. Unfortunately, he had passed away, but I found that I had 3 living siblings: 2 sisters and 1 brother. I was also surprised when I made contact with them and they welcomed me. Although they had absolutely no idea that our father had fathered another child, they were receptive to me. They initially were in shock and asked me to send them pictures of me. As soon as they received my pictures, they called me and told me that they needed no additional DNA testing, beautiful I looked as if my father and I were twins. They sent me pictures of our father and when I saw the pictures, I thought I was looking at myself.

We live hundreds of miles apart in three different states; but agreed on a mutual state, convenient to each of us, and met and hung out for a weekend. We met up a month later, in their and our father's home state and city. They took me to our father's gravesite and they took me around and introduced me to other family members, as well as to our father's hangouts. My siblings provided me with numerous pictures of our father, as well as many of his treasured, personal belongings, such as his barber's clippers, his favorite hat, his death certificate, etc.. My wife bought me a curio cabinet for me to put those items in, and the cabinet is permanently established in my office of our home.

My siblings and I have bonded and we now share a close relationship with each other; we talk on the phone, by text messaging, or video call about 4 to 5 times a week. We love each other! I could go on and on about my satisfaction with ancestry, but I'll stop now with my final comments of thank you Ancestry; if you are searching for a part of your life/yourself and have not tried Ancestry, look no more! Only 23andme had consistent results, Ancestry didn't even have one set as twins and we are identical! Nobody has been adopted. Had a twin of the other set listed as 87% African American. Not that that would be a bad thing but again, identical twin was listed as several other than African American at all. 23andme was most consistent compared to all family members tested. I recommend comparing tests before you believe what might not be true.

You need to do your research about what the DNA test can and cannot do. Ancestry's is super easy to do (you just spit in a tube and mail it off) and you can track the progress over the course of several weeks as they process it. I'm very familiar with my family's background going back to the 1600's, so I wasn't expecting any real surprises with this. However, there were multiple interesting bits of information that point to where my ancestors came from. If you give them permission, they will also publish your results so that others using the service can see your results. This potentially could help track down close relatives that you may not even know about.

It depends what plan you get if you want only Canadian records or North American or global records. Although it can be pricey it is very interesting to see who your family is and where they came from. The site will list the same person as the sibling 3 times & has no way to join together data from once it makes a mistake. Instead if I delete one of the duplicates it sometimes deletes them all. Will not link them all but will delete them all. Frustrating!!!! The site will not link other family member trees. If you chose a family member to link to the site will not allow you to go back to check other family trees once you picked 1 you like. So you have to hand enter every single person already linked by others.

They also have ThruLines now but they don't simply give you all the DNA ThruLines for your family. If the DNA Proves we are related we should have access to all of that data if we chose to link to it. Ancestry wants a lot of money for very little service & you must do a lot of work over many months to accumulate basic info that is already linked in the database. They do this to take more of your time & money. Too expensive for what they provide. My daughter could not link her account to mine for 2 years even though I paid for her to join at the same time I did. Once I chose a Free account, then they suddenly figured out how to link Mother/Daughter TODAY, 3/17/2020 because & stated that as one of many reason I decided to stop paying them.

Now they are saying they have better data but it is less accurate than it was last year. They decreased my Native percentage & moved them to Mexico when I am a cousin of Pocahontas, a Powhatan Virginian Indian. My grandmother was given a Federal Government job because she was at least 25% American Indian but still Ancestry says that side of the family has NO Indian even though the census record listed them as Indian, then changed them to Mulatto. It was Black Friday, I was video calling my family and we started talking about our heritage. My family has mixed appearances, some have blue eyes, very light skin while others have darker skins and brown/honey eyes. So we wondered what origins we had. I went online to look for a DNA test and found this was on 50% sale. I said to myself: why the hell not. Then I got it and got my entire family a bit hyped about it. I know some 700 years back in my family's history. We are Middle Eastern, my father's side came from the region of Syria/Lebanon/Palestine. Neither my father's nor mother's side has any history (AT ALL) remotely related to anything in Africa. Anyone with any basic knowledge about history knows how the area has one of the most mixed races on the entire planet given how many wars and migrations happened to and from the area. Therefore, a DNA test would be extremely helpful to breakdown what your DNA carries... Or so I've thought.

The results came in and it says 98% Middle East and 2% Senegal (seriously). I was shocked when I first viewed it. I started looking for good 1 hour before I realized that was all they provided. Yes, they have over 800 locations to "scan" against in Europe, and yet still mark the ENTIRE MIDDLE EAST as ONE GEOLOGICAL region. Yes, the most racially mixed region of the world is considered as ONE ETHNICITY. The Senegal part was shocking at first, then I read that they actually slip in African results in many DNA test takers, so they probably decided to do so for me. I mean, I wouldn't be shocked if it actually gave anything that's remotely possible, but Senegal? Really? I'm a Middle Eastern guy who paid $60 (tax and shipping included) to be told I am... Middle Eastern. At best this is a scam. Stay away and I hope this review keeps anyone reading it from getting scammed like I was.

This company is a joke and should be investigated. They now have my DNA. Will it show up somewhere else. UMMM Who Knows. Don't use this company.

My great aunt was given the Ancestry DNA test kit as a gift. Her mother was BORN IN CHEROKEE, NC AND WAS 100 percent Native American. However, her DNA showed ONLY EUROPEAN HERITAGE! We laughed like hell!!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR CASH - I (or any politician) can lie to you. WAY CHEAPER THAN THE COST OF A BOGUS DNA TEST!!!

Signed up for one month to confirm results made by another DNA lab, results were the same so I canceled the account only to find Ancestry debited my account for another month. Contacted Ancestry by phone (what a experience). Automated system could not find my account even after submitting 3X. Finally was transferred to someone who claims he couldn't find my cancellation, which was confirmed by an email from Ancestry trying to keep me active (save this email, you will need it). After 18 minutes on the phone I was given a confirmation number that confirms my account being cancelled... (TBD).

Well, today I came very close to ending my membership with Ancestry.com. I have been a customer since the very beginning. Just so you all know-currently when you share a tree on the platform within Ancestry.com, it probably is not going to the person you want to share with. Over the past 10 days I shared 10 trees-some of them the same tree, some of them different trees. NO ONE, not one got an invite from Ancestry.com to join the tree. NOT ONE.

On Saturday I spent 90 minutes on hold trying to get it resolved (I help a lot of people get started on their trees, and I use ancestry to share it-usually its easy that way. Especially if they have DNA there). After waiting on hold for 90 minutes-customer service disconnected me. On Monday I tried the corporate office-no one answering the phone there on Monday (Columbus Day must be an observed Holiday in the corp offices). So TODAY I was going to get through. (IN between I had emailed, and messaged via facebook-got some seriously comical responses too).

Today I got a human-Brea-she had no comprehension of the issue and could not grasp the problem-so she put me on hold for 35 minutes and disappeared and finally disconnected me. So I called back (fuming this time) and I got Austin. Went through the issue for the 25th time- he looked at the account and said it wasn't possible!! REALLY people? I pay for the World Access Account, $400 annually. I think I am at my breaking point. Maybe its time to delete my trees and go to a company that actually wants my business. Does anyone else feel this way?

Their idea of customer service is to ignore their customers and hope they go away. They don't respond to Facebook messenger in a viable time, they have no escalation resolution team at customer service, if you have had an issue in the past before-now they are happy to tell you "we can cancel your service is you are not happy". What they don't tell you is that they will keep a copy of all your research available on their website. YES-YOUR DATA.

I would think they would want subscribers to let them know when things aren't working so that the engineers can FIX the problem. But alas they prefer to bury their heads in their screens and hope the customers go away. After nearly 22 years with ancestry.com I think its time to move on. They do not care about their customer. THey only want your DNA-which they do sell your mass data to the bio tech firms. Ancestry has lost their focus. And I am very sad to say that.

I am of Middle Eastern descent. I have always been curious to know from which countries my ancestors originated, so I sent in my DNA to ancestry.com. On their website they list eleven possible countries. What I received back from them was a one-line report saying "100% Middle Eastern". No breakdown by country. Nothing I didn't know. When I called them to inquire, I was told that they did not have enough samples in their database to do such a breakdown. I suggested that they should tell prospective customers that they could not provide detailed analysis for middle eastern individuals. I also asked for a refund. They would not admit that they should inform individuals of their limitations and refused to provide me a refund because they "had sent the results". When I pointed out that what they sent was no better than telling someone they were 100% European, they just recited the refund policy again. Very disappointing and in my opinion fraudulent.

Ancestry DNA has no way to access your account if you misspell your email or forget your username. They have no security questions, they can't use your name, they can't use the phone number that they send text updates to, there is no forgot user name option, they can't use the kit number they provide, they can't use your credit card information and they have no technical department. They have no way to access your account and yet it's 2019, you paid a lot of money for the kit, you waited 6 weeks, and you gave them your DNA but they cannot help you. Their reps cannot help you whatsoever.

I just received my DNA results...to start. My father is 100% Italian.. We knew his mother's family and they were from Italy and were Italian. My mother is 50% Italian (again we know her mother's side very well and again - some were born in Italy and others here) and my mom is also 50% Irish.. My great grandmother was right from Ireland. My results - 64% FRENCH??? 30% Irish and only 12% ITALIAN plus a few other odd and ends... To be 46% FRENCH one of my parents or grandparents would have to have been at least part FRENCH! When I called my mother and family - I told them I must have been adopted or switched at birth!!! My family found it funny - my mother did not!!!

I originally did the free trial Ancestry.com. To do this, you need to enter a cc number. (I blame myself, I should have known better). Once the trial is over, they automatically begin to charge your cc, no notice via email. Upon the first charge, I called my cc company to dispute, but they would reverse the charge. I called Ancestry to cancel but they couldn't find my account. A supervisor was notified and they told me to email support. I did not get a response from this email.

I called my cc company and they put a block on my account for Ancestry. I finally got an email asking me to update my cc information so they can charge my card. Coincidentally, I got a response email from support with a laundry list of information they need to cancel the account, no.1 being the email address used to create the account. Hello! You are the ones saying you can't find the account even though the other credit card update email is sent to the correct email address! I called again and I finally got a cancellation email but after they charged me for 5 months! Buyer beware.

I click to see how I was related to my half sister, this was the result: How are you and [My Half Sister] related? Common Ancestors. According to Ancestry member trees, these are the common ancestors that connect you and [My Half Sister]. View a common ancestor to see the relationship path that connects you. [My Half Sister] could be your 2nd great-granddaughter through: {My Great Great Grandfather} 1840–1919. Today is 07/20/2019, I initially complained about this error on 05/01/2019, with several other contacts made between these two dates. Certainly calls into question Ancestry's credibility, does it not? Hopefully, this latest contact with Ancestry will see that this error in their software is corrected.

I watch the Ancestry commercials and it appears you can get all of this stuff and searches for unknown relatives for the initial cost. "I found that I am related to Geo Washington', says TV ad. They are very deceiving and causes me to not trust any of the Ancestry type sites. If I were to send more money I would be able to find out more about my family tree. I am living on a fixed income and cannot afford more money for nothing. All they did was repeat what information I entered when joining.

If this is all Ancestry does for the cost of admission then I guess I may never see my family history. All I want is to have some HONESTY IN ADVERTISING. Had I known the cost would be more than double I would either have saved to afford it or not purchased. For anyone planning on locating their family history, you can do this yourself for free. At least you can do what Ancestry does for a small fee. I feel this is a SCAM, although I wish it wasn't. I would really want to know my family history but I am afraid to join any other sites. Thanks for reading. Dan.

Ancestry.com does not screen the Message Board posts for harassment, abuse or attacks. Every time I go to one particular family name, every post I enter is attacked by one person who uses profanity, foul language, personal attacks, etc. I complain with no results. Some people I have heard from who also USED to post have complained for 16 years with no results. Why can't Ancestry.com screen posts to make sure there is nothing that violates their guidelines. I pay for a subscription and have paid for at least a dozen DNA tests for family members but I cannot be protected from attacks and harassment? They sometimes remove angry, hateful posts, but they leave them up for weeks at a time before they are removed. They need a better system for protecting paying members.

My 80 year old mother called to get testing kit because she saw ad (for fathers day) for $59. She signed up and I was alerted because of the charge to her card.

The charge was almost double what she thought and I called to see if we could get discounted price. The rep said sale coming up next week, for 4th of July. The rep also started discussing the subscription cost. My mother wasn't interested and I started thinking this wasn't what she wanted or could use. She has never used a computer. Then when I asked for refund I was told sure she could have it for $59. But there is a cancellation fee of $25. My mother signed up 6 hours earlier. I would understand if kit was sent out or even processed. The person she talked to originally either didn't explain everything or my mom clearly didn't understand the charges.

I did the Ancestry testing approximately three years ago for $100. The results were 72% Germanic Europe, 12% English and 14% Irish and negligible Greek. Ancestry just sent me an update which now says 2% Germanic, 88% England/Wales, 5% Norway, and 5% Ireland/Scotland. They tell me that they are able to be even more precise with greater numbers of DNA in their database. This is NOT a refinement. It is a completely different report! So my recommendation is that you save your money and don’t bother getting an ancestry analysis. They are completely bogus.
