I'm so sick of Slim-Fast's nonsense and false advertising. Their meal replacement bars while they do fill you up are by far my worst enemy. I spent the past two days in agonizing pain farting up a storm with severe stomach cramps and diarrhea nonstop. These bars make you so gassy and cause stomach issues. Nothing has controlled the excessive farts until I finally figured out the culprit. Slim-Fast bars. I have no idea what they are made of but if you wanna spend each day farting nonstop with bad stomach cramps by all means try the Slim-Fast bars. Don't be surprised if you go through the same thing I did. I never had this problem with Atkins bars so will be sticking with them. Slim-Fast is no good.

First, I must say that I really like the Original type of SlimFast meal replacement shake mix. It is easy to use and with a hand blender and some ice it is a refreshing thing. However... there is no such thing as 4 hour hunger control and I suspect that is misleading advertising. I do not normally eat when I am NOT hungry though it might work better then? I eat when hungry so if I am replacing lunch with a 200 cal drink that is not much to sustain a person even after they are used to much reduced meals. I shall continue using this product as it replaces my mid morning and mid afternoon snack.

I can't speak to the negative reviews regarding taste and packaging, since that's subjective, but I do want to address reviews calling this product a "scam". If you follow the program Slimfast recommends (no cheating), you will lose weight, barring some type of medical condition. It's not a magic bullet. It doesn't melt away pounds upon swallowing. It's only what it claims to be: a low-calorie meal replacement that helps with appetite control.
I have read reviews that say it does not help with appetite control and I think I can address that too. When I first started using Slimfast, I was a grazer and, on occasion, a binge eater. Because I was used to eating all day (and drinking pop), when I first started Slimfast, I didn't feel like it helped with appetite control. But after a while, once I got myself out of the habit of grazing, soft drinks and taking in so much food, it did start to help. I would recommend taking a product like Metamucil when using Slimfast, since it seems to bind me up a little. But otherwise, I would recommend this product to someone wanting to shed pounds.

The new, "prettier" packaging of the shake powder. The packaging is larger, there is a full 2 oz less in it and it tastes like crap. It leaves the most disgusting, bitter taste in your mouth. SO with there being less product and more packaging it is also 3.5$ more than the original, smaller packaging that has more and better quality product. I will not be spending my money on it again, or rather, wasting my money. It's disgusting.

I don't know why people are complaining here, but Slim-Fast is a Godsend. With it I lost 45 pounds in 3.5 months, and that's with no exercise. I went from 249 pounds to my current weight, 204. It also completely reversed my high blood pressure, which was originally 170/104, which then dropped to 108/76 after I had lost 36 pounds at that point. My weight loss has been documented with my PCP, so this is fully verifiable. I even emailed Slim-Fast about it and they wanted to put me up on their site, but I'm a private person and opted out. So for those of you out there who complained, it's not because of the Slim-Fast product. It's because you didn't give it a fair shot.
You can't be drinking booze or wine every weekend, or eat a half gallon of ice cream per week. You have to give up those things that are making you fat, and alcohol and sweets are a major contributing factor. I totally gave up wine, and though I like my M&M's, I'm still doing the Slim-Fast daily. When I first started I was even doing a shake in the morning and then two in the afternoon, and then a regular dinner like chicken and rice, even pizza on Friday sometimes, and I still lost weight. You can't just drink this stuff and continue your normal eating routine. You have to work at it, and I personally guarantee that if you give it an honest shot, you WILL see a difference in one week, just like they promise, and just like I did.
Once I saw that in the mirror, it gave me the enthusiasm and determination to go on. I started off at size 42 pants and 2x Large polo shirts, and now I'm at X-Large polos and size 36 pants. That's 6" off my waistline, and you know what else? When people saw me after I lost all that weight, they were just amazed, telling me how good I looked. You just can't beat that, and how good it feels. Also how good YOU feel. It all just keeps motivating you to go on. So don't complain, just give it an honest shot, and you'll see.

This is unacceptable because the other type contains aspartame which will give me a dangerous migraine for days. Both containers have this other product. I could see the powder looked different right away, it mixed differently and it tasted like the chocolate Slim Fast that isn't the smoothie type. Wow, whenever I've "stumble" upon a great, weight loss or appetite control snack over the years, I've always noticed they were foods by Slim-Fast. Currently, I'm addicted to their barbecue flavored potato chips which are much better than the high fat content ones sold at the grocery stores. I eat at least one small, 100 calorie bag of these a day. They are absolutely delicious, addictive and a great mid-day snack to hold me over until dinnertime. I miss their chocolate covered, peanut butter crunch bars so much; I can't find them anywhere. I think they got rid of them last year, because I found hundreds of boxes of them at the 99 cent store nearby.
I bought 30 boxes and went back for more a few months later when I'd finished them. I do NOT tire of these snack and those chocolate, peanut butter bars tasted exactly like Butterfinger candy bars which were my favorite treat as a kid. Slim-Fast also has these great little candy balls that look like mini-malted milk balls except that they're pretzel pieces overlaid with chocolate. Yum... I don't mind their shakes although some people on this site are criticizing their taste. Maybe that's because I always put my chilled shake drink in a blender along with ice cubes and fresh fruit. Those "smoothies" are tasty and to die for; they satisfy my hunger throughout the day and are very filling. I'll be really bummed if Slim-Fast ever goes out of business. They've got a loyal, dedicated (and trim!) fan for life!

I have been using Slimfast (Royal Choc) for 5 years now and drink them primarily as my go to morning breakfast shake. These new shakes taste completely horrendous compared to the originals. Just awful... What have you done?! I will no longer buy the shakes due to the new taste and will miss my routine. What’s more, the new packaging is poorly made and the bottles continually break out of the flimsy cardboard containers... Too much trouble. The former twist tops were much more convenient and these new sealed tops are NOT. So disappointed.

I've been buying the 2 of the four packs of the original, chocolate variety for quite some time. Although they do have the box of 8, I found it more convenient carrying two items instead of one larger box. I'm starting my review with the packaging because when the packaging recently changed, so did the flavor & even consistency. The old packaging had a twist off cap, without any need to peel off anything before opening, then a foil seal. The "new" packaging has a perforated plastic seal that needs to be removed before twisting the cap off. No big deal really... Until I actually tasted one of the new ones. It was watery & gritty and just didn't taste good. I thought maybe I just hadn't shaken it well enough so the next day, I shook extra. NOPE, same gritty, watery, bad tasting stuff. Slim-Fast has been part of my morning routine for quite some time. I'm sad to say I won't be buying it any longer. Undo whatever was recently done, PLEASE!

I've been drinking one bottle of Slim-Fast Cappuccino Delight for two or three years, and before that the milk chocolate flavored drink. I really liked these drinks, but about a month ago when I opened a bottle, the drink smelled rotten. I checked the other three bottles of the four-pack and they also smelled rotten. I figured out that probably because I had had them in my kitchen cabinet for a couple of weeks, they must have spoiled. So after that I put the drinks in the refrigerator as soon as I brought them home from the supermarket.
For a month or so, everything was fine. But this morning, I opened a drink, and there was that some rotten smell. I opened the other three bottles, and they also smelled rotten. I've read the other reviews, and concluded that something has been going on with the way the drink is being prepared. Considering that the company is obviously very well aware of this, I would be very happy to participate in either a complaint to the FDA or a class action lawsuit.

It has been over 8 years since I last used Slim-Fast drinks in my daily diet. My busy schedule and now turning 52, I have packed on a few extra pounds, more likely over 20 lbs. Thank God I remembered what helped me in my past. I turned back to the drinks that were formerly in a can, now in a great plastic bottle. I freeze them overnight and by lunch time they are perfectly thawed into a deliciously cold drink. I have IBS and was afraid that it may trigger problems, but fortunately they haven't bothered me one bit. They help take the cravings for the sweets I crave so often far away and fill me enough so when I go home I desire a healthy dinner. I am on my third week of using Slim-Fast again and have noticed a huge difference on how I look and feel. My wife also enjoys the results I have received. I use the Cappuccino, the Milk Chocolate and the Dark Chocolate. I love all three flavors. Dark being my favorite.

Ive been drinking SlimFast shakes for a couple of months now. Not to lose weight by using them as a meal replacement, but more so to lose weight by adding more protein to my diet. I have yet to find a protein drink that I like. However, I tried the high protein shakes and actually think theyre pretty good. I prefer the creamy chocolate which reminds me of liquid pudding really. There is an aftertaste, but it's not unbearable... and still tastes much better than protein powders in my opinion.
I did experience some cramping in the beginning, but it is my understanding that it is because I was taking in more fiber which my body was not used to. I do not have any cramping issues at this time. The cramping was very mild anyway, so it wouldnt have been the worst thing if it did continue. My overall opinion is I think they are a good alternative to protein powders. They taste pretty good, theyre filling because of the content - many nutrients! And they help you lose weight! Sounds great!

I love Slimfast, I lost over 30 lbs after my second child. Simply had one for breakfast then a snack like a piece of fruit or a Slimfast bar. I had a larger lunch and a snack, then dinner I would have another shake that I would put in the blender with a banana and/or espresso to make a frozen smoothie. I normally drink chocolate. Those of you who have stomach cramps, the reason why is the fiber. If you are not getting enough fiber in your daily diet then add fiber suddenly, normally you will have gas or cramping 'til your digestive system gets used to it. Ok face it... for those of you who are afraid of the thickening added to Slimfast. Everything we eat has something in it. You won't be on Slimfast forever if you stick to a good diet. Once you have lost your weight you can stop drinking Slimfast and maybe add an Ensure or Boost to your daily replacement meal drink. I love Slimfast!

So to my dismay, when I was ready to buy SlimFast for a diet routine, I noticed that "CARRAGEENAN" was in their shakes. I immediately decided against this product. I am so disappointed that the makers of SlimFast decided to use CARRAGEENAN in their products. Now let me also tell people that there are a lot of dairy products and other types of products (pizza crust) that have CARRAGEENAN in them. People need to be aware of this & watch for it. I am 37 years old and have recently decided to get serious about my weight loss. I anticipate a most challenging journey with a goal of losing 100 pounds. I was enthusiastic about eating one balanced meal and substituting the other two with Royal Chocolate Slim-Fast. I did this faithfully for 2 weeks. At first, I felt great. I used unsweetened almond milk to make the shakes. They were enjoyable and satisfying. However, at the end of the two weeks, I had only lost four pounds which is ok, but it should've been more with such a drastic caloric intake shift. I also included exercise in my daily routine.
The deal breaker for me was my face. I started getting large pimples on my face like I have not had in years. My skin has always been pretty clear throughout adulthood. I'm deducing that all the sugar and chocolate wrecked my complexion. I have been a regular Slim-Fast user for almost 15 years. My daily breakfast would consist of a Slim-Fast and an oatmeal breakfast bar. It was a very convenient way for me to eat breakfast in the morning. It was never about using it as a weight loss drink, it was about starting my day with a nutritious breakfast. When I went to the store to pick up more this week I saw that you had changed your drinks. I would buy the Chocolatey Royale. Your new drink is called Creamy Chocolate. And you cut down from 8 bottles to 4 bottles.
Fine, I can live with that. But when I tried your new drink while driving to work I had to pull the car over because I thought I was going to vomit. I couldn't believe how horrible this new drink tasted. I thought maybe I didn't shake the drink enough before I drank it. But no, even after shaking it my Slim-Fast was possibly the most vile thing I have ever tasted in my life. I poured the rest of my drink onto the street and drove to work very disappointed.
I really don't know what I'm going to do about my breakfast. I have been driving from store to store to see if they had any old Slim-Fast remaining and I have about enough to get through to the end of the month. I cannot stress how HORRIBLE and DISGUSTING your new drinks are. I am hoping that with enough negative feedback you might go back to the old Slim-Fast. Are they out of their minds? Slim-Fast has taken downsizing to a whole new level. First, they go from 6 cans to 4 bottles, and then they reduce the amount in the bottles from 11 ounces to 10 ounces. What used to cost 7.5 cents an ounce, now cost 12.5 cents an ounce. That's a whopping 65% increase! Their greed just cost them a customer. Like many others, I am disgusted with Unilever's move to change containers and raise the price. It is the same story that others tell - I buy the six-pack of 11-oz cans from Wal-Mart at $5.48, but they changed to a four-pack of 10-oz bottles and the price is the same! I buy two packs per week. I have not made a move to other products yet. I have stayed with Slim-Fast, but I made one vow - I would never buy Slim-Fast again without a coupon. I get two each month from Slim-Fast online and order coupons in bulk on eBay. So far, I have not purchased one product without a coupon. The new container is much harder to open, easy to tip over, and is not easily recycled. The whole new packaging is a bad idea for Unilever!

The new 10oz bottled Slim Fast is not only more expensive than the 11oz can, but they require 3 steps to open (instead of one, making it more difficult for some people). You cannot drink from them or risk cutting your lip. They contain more cholesterol and more sodium, taste more watery, yet magically retained the same amount of calories, protein and fiber as the larger can size. This is a giant step downward for the company. We will no longer be purchasing the liquid Slim Fast products.

This takes time, causes me pain, and the "unkindest cut of all" is that the product is more expensive. I used the pop-top cans for years. Slim-Fast packaging is in #7 plastic. Are not noted as bio-degradable. The size is smaller, therefore the price increase is more significant than the sticker might indicate.
Other - contains all types of plastics not listed under 1-6. Many of these plastics may be safe but Polycarbonates (Trade name LEXAN) which contains Bisphenol A is also listed under category 7 so be careful. Bisphenol A (aka BPA) are endocrine disrupters, which mimic hormones. They may cause havoc on human hormones through plastics leaching into hot beverages and may also be a potential carcinogen. Do not use these products with infants and small children and never use them to heat liquids or formula.
*NOTE: Not all category #7 plastics include the BPA toxin. Group #7 also includes compostable plastics made of organic material such as corn, which may actually be more environmentally friendly than most general plastics. Most of these biodegradable cups are typically labeled to inform you of their eco-product nature.

I consider the new packaging a big drawback. The old container was 11 oz, the new one is 10 oz. It was one step to open the old container (pop the top). The new container has a plastic seal you'll need fingernails to rip off. Then there's the twist-off cap. Then there's the foil seal to remove. The old container is recyclable, the new one is not. Great product, poor packaging.

I have been searching the stores for the $9.99 12 pack of cans, I am used to getting at Wal-Mart. I do not drink the shakes to lose weight, but rather to get the vitamins. I never have much of an appetite, and sometimes find myself not eating for a couple of days in a row. So I have gotten in the habit of grabbing a can on my way out the door in the morning and maybe having one in the evening, if I am not hungry enough to eat.
I ran out of the cans during my search for them, and ended up forgetting to make sure I ate. I only want to maintain being healthy, and keep getting the vitamins needed. I am completely disturbed to find out that the SF cans were pulled off the shelves, and replaced with bottle that contains less product, for more than a 50% increase in price.
I will not purchase the SF bottles at this outrageous price. Sf just lost a loyal customer of over 5 yrs. Instead I will switch to another brand that is sold at the price I am used to paying.
In the economically down time that we are in, why do companies think that giving a consumer less product for more money is an option? That is bad business practice, and certainly, a company looking out for their consumers' best interest. We already can not afford more than necessities. What makes companies think, that raising the price on a product that isn't a necessity, is going to fly? I cancelled Netflix when they tried it, and I am no longer a loyal customer of SF either, as a result.

It was worse than a rip-off. Congratulations, Unilever! Less per bottle, fewer bottles per pack, higher price for less+fewer. And you market them as "on-the-go." I used to grab a can of SF from the fridge on the way out the door in the morning, head down road, shake, and pop top with one hand and drink the 11 oz. Then I flip the steel can in the recycle bin at work and be done with it.
Now I have an "on-the-go" plastic bottle shaped to appear larger than it is but with a compressed and flattened middle. Is this designed to look better? To be easier to grip? Are people having trouble gripping a cylindrical can? And the pop-top was replaced with a plastic screw top. Sure, lots of people will not finish the 10 oz in one sitting but rather will have a need to screw the top back on after drinking 5 oz for breakfast and saving the other 5 for a late-night snack. After unscrewing the plastic cap, which takes two hands, I now have to assault a tin foil seal to finally get to my 10 oz of SF. This is so on-the-go.
Now, let's talk about plastic. The cap is useless, and it's made of the least biodegradable kind of plastic--the kind that rules the Pacific Ocean garbage patch. "Patch?" It's bigger than Texas! And Unilever wants it bigger. This is the type of plastic that kills albatrosses, sea turtles, etc., because it takes a million years to break down. When the albatross dies, its carcass decomposes around the plastic cap which is then liberated to keep killing for centuries to come.
So, let's review: Less product, fewer containers, higher price, harder to hold, harder to open, falls down and rolls around in the fridge, and citizens pay more at the end of the waste stream. Hey, Unilever execs, I hope discarded SF bottles clog up the engines of your yachts and leave you stranded at sea. Our taxes can then pay for the Coast Guard to come tow you home. And may the Occupy Wall Street gang poop on the doorstep of your corporate headquarters. I'll never buy SF or any of your products ever again. And I'm selling my stock in your obnoxious company. Drop dead.

I started dieting on the first of September. I was using the ready to use shakes in a can from Slim Fast, 2 per day. After about 2 days, I had severe indigestion, but continued on with the shakes for a week. After a week, I cut back to just one a day and added an extra salad. The indigestion seemed to get a little better. Over the weeks the severity would come and go, so I didn't read that much into it. Over the last week, it became much more severe and I was also very tired, dizzy and nauseated.
On Saturday, Oct. 16th, it was the worst. All day I felt really bad. Around 8:30 p.m., I had two stabbing pains in my left chest and almost passed out. I went immediately to bed and stayed the rest of the night. The next day I could barely get up and even walk to the bathroom. On Sunday night, Oct. 17th, around 11:30 p.m. I had more pain, this time more of a pinch and twist pain on the left side and then again about 1:30 a.m. At 2:40 a.m. I got up to use the bathroom and became very dizzy and nauseated I feared I would pass out before I could get back to the bed. I was sweating profusely, cold and all my color had drained from my body. I did make it back to the bed and after a few minutes I felt well enough to send my husband a message (he works nights). He messaged me back and was on his way home.
I have a disabled child that lives at home and requires me to care for her 24/7. What if I had passed out in the bathroom and cracked my head on the tub, toilet or anything? What would she have done at home alone in the middle of the night?
My husband got me and carried me to the local emergency room where they assumed I had had a heart attack. I was released yesterday after tons of testing including ultrasound of the heart and nuclear stress test. My heart is 100% healthy. thank God, the pain was caused from the severe indigestion. I am now on medicine (protonics) for the reflux that has been irritated by the Slim Fast. Obviously there is still an issue with the stuff. Over the years, I have used Slim Fast numerous times to lose a little here and there and have never had any sort of problem until now. What is it going to take to get this company to do it right? How many people have to get ill before they really fix things?

Update: I have finally received my full refund from Unilever for their bacterial contaminated Slimfast product. It took eight months (since December 09) repeated phone calls and complaint letters and forms. My advice is do not give up because that is just what Unilever wants you to do. Do what I did, file formal complaints with the Attorney General Office of Consumer Protection in both your state of residence and in the state of New Jersey where Unilever is located. Also file a complaint with the state of New Jersey Better Business Bureau. You can do all these filings on line. In December 2009, I called the Unilever/Slim-Fast 800 number to request a refund for the 62 cans of bacteria-contaminated Slim-Fast product I had purchased just prior to the nationwide recall. The automated recording instructed callers to leave their name, address, telephone number, and a count of cans on hand. The recording instructed callers to dispose of any cans of the product. The recording did not offer an opportunity to speak to a real person nor did it ask for any proof of purchase. I left all the requested information.
I had 48 cans in eight brand-new unopened cases plus 14 loose cans in my refrigerator, 62 cans in all. I had just purchased the last 4 cases three days prior to the announced recall, so I still had the sales receipt. I do not have the sales receipt for the prior 4 cases plus the 14 loose cans. However, I do have all 8 UPC codes from the cases, as I wisely thought to save the cases after disposing of the product as instructed. After 12 weeks without response from Unilever and numerous calls to various Unilever telephone numbers without success, on March 12, 2010, I filed formal complaints with the Oregon Department of Justice, The Better Business Bureau of New Jersey, and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.
A few weeks later, I received a check from Slim-Fast for $20.40, which was $41.28 less than what I was owed. I paid $5.98 per case at 99.6 per can = $61.68. I have sent the check back to Unilever Consumer Services at Sylvan Ave., Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632 and requested a new check for the correct amount. In the letter I enclosed with the returned check, I advised Unilever that they "have chosen to cheat the wrong person."
I suggest to everyone who has not yet received their refund and/or who was also cheated out of a complete refund to send complaints to the Attorney General, Consumer Affairs Division of their own state, plus the state of New Jersey. They must also file with the New Jersey BBB. I also complained to my local CBS TV station.
The consumer protection reporter has sent me a written request, asking to conduct an on-camera interview. I am holding off on doing this to see if my correct refund arrives soon.

I have a letter from B.J. 's stating they have me on file buying the recalled cans & I bought many cases. I had two cases left. I called Slim Fast to see how to get a refund & never talked to a real person. I left all my info & details.
When I got no response after a few months went by, I called them & left a message saying I had to get the blood test, that I had been ill etc. Slim Fast left a message on my phone two days ago & they gave me a case number & asked me to return their call. I haven't done so as yet as I am so angry that it has taken this long for them to respond. I finally took the two cases back to B.J.'s where I exchanged them for the "new" Slim Fast. I spent Thanksgiving home alone as I was afraid of giving the flu to my family. I asked for the money from the recall on the 2nd day they put it out. We had 59 cans, all purchased in packages of 6. Here these in a 6 pack cost $5.97 plus tax, that's almost a dollar a can before tax. The recall said to empty the cans and we did, down the drain, and put the empty cans in the trash which we did. Now I get a letter with a $10 check and a demand for proof that I had 59 cans before I will get the remaining money they owe me.
In the original recall, you published and they had on their web site, nothing was said about proof. Now, they want receipt, upc code numbers off the cans, or a photo of the 59 cans. Since they did not originally ask for proof, I am a bit aggravated at the demand for it now. Maybe some people asked for 100's of cans in refund and were lying, but they should have thought about that to begin with. I did send a very nasty letter back to them with the marked up check that I will not cash, demanding the money they said they owe me and I know it cost a lot more than a paltry ten dollars for 59 cans.
I am out the cost of 59 cans, approximately $59 at the most, plus I will now refrain from using any of the products with the Slim Fast name and any other product that I can find that is produced by the same company.
