Domino’s has been changing the game with its delivery services. Earlier this year, the company announced customers would be able to order their favorites directly from their cars with Apple CarPlay, while a few years ago Domino’s was testing autonomous pizza delivery in Houston.
Now, the pizza chain has announced new technology that will allow customers to have orders delivered without an address. Whether you’re at the beach, an amusement park, a campsite, or any other location, you can now get your Domino’s pizza delivered directly to you.
Domino’s released Pinpoint Delivery, which allows customers to drop a pin with their location on the map in the Domino’s app, and their order will be delivered wherever they are.
“Domino’s is proud to be the first quick-service restaurant brand in the U.S. to deliver food to customers with the drop of a pin,” said Christopher Thomas-Moore, senior vice president, chief digital officer, at Domino’s. “We’re always striving to make customers’ experiences even better and more convenient, and Domino’s Pinpoint Delivery does exactly that.”
How does it work?
To start your order, you need to open the Domino’s app and select “Pinpoint Delivery.” From there, you drop a pin sharing your precise location with Domino’s – the tennis court, the soccer field, the pool, a music festival, the boardwalk – anywhere.
You won’t need to enter a typical address. Dropping the pin allows Domino’s to see your location and find the store closest to wherever you are. Before placing your order, you’ll have the ability to review your pickup spot, moving the map around to find the spot that most closely matches where you are.
Once you place your order, you can track its progress on the Domino’s app, and you’ll receive an estimated time of when to expect delivery. At this time, you’ll also receive instructions on where to meet your delivery driver with your order.
Throughout the order process, customers will receive text message updates, and can use the map in the Domino’s app to navigate to the food pickup spot. Once the driver arrives with your food, you’ll have four minutes to meet them and pick up your food.
Customers will also need to provide brief descriptions of what they’re wearing so the delivery driver will be able to recognize them at the pickup point – and be sure they’re handing the food off to the right person.
Customers can also activate a spotlight on the tracker page, which flashes a Domino’s logo on your phone screen, that can be held up to signal where you are to the driver.
