Volkswagen recalls over 79,000 ID.4s with display issues

Volkswagen is recalling nearly 80,000 ID.4s to address display issues - VW

Regulators started investigating the issue in April 2023

Volkswagen is recalling as many as 79,953 of its ID.4 SUVs with the model years 2021 to 2023, citing a software issue that can fail to display speeds or the rearview camera image.

"Vehicles may experience center displays and instrument panel displays that do not boot, or that sporadically reset," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. "This can result in loss of speedometer information or loss of rearview camera image."

The NHTSA launched an investigation into the ID.4's software issue in April 2023. After discussions with the regulator, Volkswagen agreed to issue a voluntary recall in early May 2024.

This is the German automaker's first recall this year involving its ID.4s and seventh recall for the vehicle overall, according to NHTSA data. As many as 163,452 ID.4s have been recalled since 2021.

On average, Volkswagen has recalled around 865,000 vehicles a year since 2010.
