You ordered something online, waited for it to be delivered, only to find out it wasn’t the right size, you don’t need it, or don’t want it anymore. Now, you’re stuck with the package and need to drop it off at the post office to return it.
For many consumers, the last part of that often goes forgotten. The package sits in a corner, unreturned – and money lost.
Uber’s latest feature can help with this predicament.
The rideshare company is now offering consumers the option to have their packages returned for them at a local post office, UPS, or FedEx location. This will help consumers check a chore off their to-do lists and have their refunds processed faster.
How does it work?
The new feature is part of Uber Connect, the service that allows consumers to send gifts, food, or other items to friends, loved ones, or coworkers.
All consumers need to do is box up the items they want to return, and have them ready to be picked up by an Uber driver. Then, open the Uber or Uber Eats app and tap on “Return a Package.” Consumers can choose whether the item will have a shipping label attached to the box, or if they have a QR code for the return that they’ll share with the driver.
From there, users will be prompted to fill in where the items need to be returned to. Consumers can choose specific post office, UPS, or FedEx locations on the Uber app.
Once the delivery is confirmed, consumers can track their package dropoff live on the Uber app. When the handoff is complete, users will either receive a photo confirmation from their driver or a picture of the receipt from the transaction.
How much does it cost?
Utilizing Uber’s Return a Package feature will run consumers $5 for each trip. Uber One members save on the feature – these transactions will cost members $3 per trip.
Uber drivers will return up to five packages on each trip. Boxes must be under 30 pounds and the contents must be valued under $100.
The new service is available now on the Uber and Uber Eats apps in nearly 5,000 cities across the United States.
