There are some pros and cons with Public Storage. If you know for sure that you are only going to need them for six months or less then they are ok, but not a place I would recommend for long term storage. I make this comment not just because they raise their rates every year, but find the company dangerous in the sense that they are erratic, and any dispute or confrontation is sufficient to motivate them to kick you out and cancel your contract.
In my case, I needed to update an expired credit card, but their website is out of order, and won't let me do this. As a result, I couldn't direct a payment from my credit card, nor do reestablish auto pay. I tried to contact their #800 number and their call center was a bit condescending. They refused multiple time to transfer me to the facility where the locker was located at, and insisted that they alone needed to help me. Finally they transferred me, and the manager at the Overlake facility in Newark, CA threatened me with various actions on what they would do if I didn't pay them.
At this point I requested contact information for their District manager who I was advised is Sean Fernandez. I spoke to Sean, and he accused me of verbally abusing his staff, and insulting him. That appeared to be the only thing he was willing to talk about, and threatened to cancel my contract. After some lengthy discussion, he emailed me a password reset even though I had not lost my password, and the password reset feature didn't work. I texted him a snapshot of what I saw on my screen, and he became verbally abusive, and said that I had insulted him and his staff. He then hung up on me, and I still don't have online access from the company. My observation of Public Storage is that anyone who doesn't agree with their views is insulting, and it isn't a place that instills trust with your family pictures, belongings, and valuables.
On the positive side, the public storage space that I rented is clean, no vermin, and there are people who run the front desk that appear to be reasonably competent, speak English well, but they run off a script, and won't deviate from it. They won't take a credit card over the phone, by text, and you can't pay with it if their automated system or website is down. I was told that they can only accept a payment in person, but there is no public storage facility where I was at, and that doesn't address the issue of the company fixing its website.
As a result, I directed my financial institution to immediately issue an electronic bill pay, and requested a credit on their late fee since this was their mistake. I questioned whether or not I should give them a higher star rating for those who only need a space a short time, and after some reflection believe that a clean safe place doesn't give them standing if the company itself is not sufficiently trustworthy. Tomorrow I am going to call corporate, but don't know what to expect. Some companies will clean house from the top down, but I don't know if this is that type of company. I have seen organizations where everyone bans together and protects each other instead of taking responsibility.

6 months in they raised fees by $43 per month. I moved my vehicle into a storage unit in September at the Ann Arbor facility and they raised the rent $43 per month in January. I will never use them again, if you are looking to store somewhere, go somewhere else. I wish I would have read their reviews.

Rented 2 lockers starting September 2019. At the end of December they raised the rates 25%. I had prepaid for January 2020, but when they did this I decided to vacate 1 prepaid locker before the end of December 2019. I vacated and lived up to the lease and cleaned the locker out. PS was supposed to issue me a refund of 123.00 which they claim they did....Here it is Feb. 2, 2020 and still no refund. I called their call center and was treated very rudely. Their call center said I had to call the Tucson supervisor. They gave me a number to call. So I did. No call back. FRAUD ALERT....do not do business with these people. The BBB does not accredit them. Wish I had seen this sooner. I will be shutting down my other garage ASAP.

They are scammers! The day before they auction my unit I talked to Tammy. She told me to make my payment before midnight! I attempted several times and couldn't! Next day I talked to Donna and explained how I couldn't make my payment online. I asked to speak to their dm which she informed me he would be in at 11am. I tried calling several times and no response! They auction my items! I called the next day and Tammy had the nerves to say sometimes it's best to start over! I immediately got furiously mad for her selfish comment!! STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! STAY! AWAY. STAY AWAY!

Every year they raise rates for old customers, with explanation that "corporate makes these decisions based on availability of units". That's completely false, since they have the same advertised rate on their website now that I got when I first moved in. Now they're trying to raise the prices for 3rd time? Do I really have to get a new unit with new rate just to move to a unit NEXT to mine for the old price? I guess they don't want me to rent with them...

After 6 months of business storage, I was finally able to get a parking space outside. Then my next bill, the dry unit went from 150 per month to 191 per month. I paid the bill thinking it was my “new total” bill for both spots. Got a call today that I didn’t pay my total bill. That was the rate increase for the first unit. And I had a 20 dollar late fee. Whatever. Apparently there is no commitment that is honorable. If they need extra money, they just charge you.

Kim is a GREAT manager, but the Public Storage HQ has serious issues. I have only been storing at this location for about 7 months, never missed a payment. My payment was $63 a month, on 12/26/2019 HQ informed me that it was being raised to $83 a month! WHAT! A $20 increase? In what world is this right? Kim went to work and had it lower to $73 a month. I paid as scheduled, for the month of January on 12/26/2019 online for the full amount $63. Today, I get an email stating I was $10 short and have a $20 late fee! I have all the email, and my payment information and HQ still told me I owe. Now $30 dollars is not a lot of money, but I have issues with thief’s, and HQ is attempting a technical mugging! I had already canceled my space last year! What am I missing?

Please don't even waste your time or your breath. Anyone doing business with this company is surely going to suffer. I reserved a unit and had a phone interview and could not even get an answer to my question about PAST price increases, because of course they "cannot predict the future due to supply and demand changes". Business Location: 9890 Pacific Heights Blvd, San Diego, CA 92121. Also: "I don't even have that information, that is corporate policy." And no, I cannot speak to anyone "at corporate" because "I am the Proprty Manager and I am the only one you can speak to. I don't even know how to reach anyone at corporate." I am so grateful for this website and others like it, that help to save others from becoming victims of greed and deceit.

I canceled my storage unit today, the first day the office was open after I was able to empty it. They told me upon move-out that they do not prorate or do partial refunds, yet I moved in on 7/27/2019 and they had no problem prorating the rent to charge me, even though it was supposedly $1 the first month. All they could tell me at the physical location was "it's month to month and not daily and therefore no refund is given unless you move out before the 1st of the next month for billing." They also do not publish their policies on their website, and do not clarify their refund policies. This is definitely a buyer beware situation and you should thoroughly research before agreeing to any rental terms.

How is it possible that a secure storage facility can have so many break-ins? I was asking the same question and then it happened to my clients. Upon my suggestion, we rented a large unit for their personal items thinking that a pad locked steel door would be sufficient. 20 days later, someone cut the a door with a bolt cutter and no response from Public Storage as to getting the door fixed today. So I singlehandedly moved 200 pairs of shoes, 8 clothing racks and emptied the unit before the thieves could return for the rest!

I rented a 7'x10' unit for a beginning rate of $153 per month. The door is poorly sealed and there is a thick layer of dirt covering everything in the unit. A little over a year later my rate is $196. To add salt to the wound, I receive daily ads in my Yahoo email for same-sized units available for $91 per month. When I called customer service to inquire about switching to the cheaper unit they told me those were promotional rates for new customers only. I asked if the new customer who gets that deal will be paying $196 after their first year and they stammered, not knowing how to reply, then said "Well, everyone's rates are subject to change, that's how this business works." I strongly suggest folks look elsewhere for storage solutions. This company is akin to something you'd expect from doing business with the mafia. I can't stress enough how much Public Storage should be avoided. You're better off taking your property and burying it in the woods.

Beware of Public Storage. When I first chose them, it was under the fallacy that their rates were a bargain. I decided to pass on other storage facilities closer to home and with more convenient hours and in my mind, save some money. They definitely got me with the 'great deals' they post on the internet. As soon as I walked in their store I learned I was going to be paying a lot more than I thought I would. But that is not the worst. After a few months of renting, they raised my rent a staggering 21.5%. I called the store manager to try to understand the new bill and remind her of the rent I had agreed upon. She was quick to dismiss my complaint and asked me to take it with her boss.
It took me a few days of multiple calls and several voicemails to finally connect with the 'boss' whom wasn't any help either. Her justification for raising the rent was that 'they periodically raise their rates based on cost of living'!?! She said they also sent me an email (which by the way was no different from every email I have been getting every month reminding me of my upcoming pay day), in which it was stated that my rent will go up. By the 6th of the month I had not paid my bill because I was having such a hard time getting through and speaking to someone to help me. To my surprise, they also added a 'late' fee of $32 on the 7th even though I have been trying to contact this person for days without luck.
Now they are threatening me with not letting me access my storage unit or take my stuff out even if I pay my rent which is supposed to be $63 less than what they want me to pay. If you are looking for a storage facility, save yourself the money and the headache and do not go near Public Storage. They will rob you and they will try to keep your belongings hostage unless you pay however much more money they decide they want you to pay.

First, If you are going to rent space with these guys, I would definitely have the phone number for your local department of Consumer Affairs and the your state's attorney handy. And I'm not kidding. These guys are mobsters. They get you to inquire about renting/leasing space with them under false pretenses (talking about the discount deals that advertise on the internet, but you soon learn no deals at all). Once you go to their store, you soon realize that you are going to be paying a lot more than what you thought. But the jaw dropping part of their whole scheme is when, after months of renting storage from them they raised the rate on MY rental space by an eye popping %18.5 percent. And the worst part is they know they can do it because you have not signed a long term lease AND, AND they know that you are in no position to take your stuff out of their storage unit, because if you were, you would have done it by now.
If you are reading this before deciding to go with PUBLIC STORAGE, save yourself some serious money and don't do IT!!! After getting notice of an 18.5% rate increase, I have started looking around, and you more than likely can get the same size storage space, with the same amenities, at much lower cost from many other storage facilities out there. Do some research, before signing on with these bait-and-switch crooks. I'm taking this complaint to my local Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs and to my State's Attorney. And if you have fallen victim to their rate increase scheme, I suggest you do the same.

I moved back to FL almost 2 years ago. I Put my 3 bedroom home in a 10 x 15 CLIMATE CONTROLLED unit in Holiday, FL, for the going rate of $119 a month move in rate. After 3 months they MADE me move so they could split my unit into 2 and make more money on it. All of my furniture was ruined (broken... and not cheap furniture) by the movers. They gave me the $1 move in rate at the new place in NPR, FL. After the first month, I was paying $149 a month, for the same size as I had in Holiday. That was a $30 increase. The first of the year, they raised my rent again and I was paying $169 a month. Now we’ve gone up $50 for the same unit.
Today, I got an email telling me the price was going up again!!! Now they are charging me $190 a month for the same unit! Nearly $100 increase in a year! Talk about getting ** by a greedy company! I rented a double unit at the Norcross GA store of Public Storage for over 20 years. It contained family antiques and other items, lots of furniture, some in my family since the 1870's, others since 1960. I moved out as of 8/31/19, but it took over a week of moving off and on. Upon opening the unit, I was horrified to see that the furniture was COVERED WITH MILDEW!! Public Storage bills its units as "climate controlled," but my movers really complained of the bad odor and of how hot it was most of the time. This lack of temperature control contributed to the mildew, and I should have guessed there could be a problem because I read in the local paper about someone else having the same issue.
On originally renting, I was strongly urged to take the insurance and did so. But the insurance too is a ripoff! I paid over $2000 in premiums, only now to learn that for "fungus" there is a maximum coverage of $250 with a $100 deductible. No one EVER PROVIDED SUCH INFO TO ME! All I was given was a pamphlet like one I have now which talks in general about the insurance and which does allude to a $250 maximum for "vermin" (rats). No mention of "fungus" or mildew. This insurance, it turns out, is SELF-INSURANCE -- in other words, one more way for Public Storage to rip off their clients.
As I left them, I complained about being yelled at and hung up on by one of the Public Storage employees when I tried to inquire about a payment issue (after 20 years of faithfully paying, I had inadvertently paid the wrong amount -- not a missed payment, mind you, just an incorrect one). And someone tells me just to pay up or "your stuff will be sold at auction"? Finally after I wrote their corporate headquarters, a district manager called, not to apologize but rather to say, "We're really just bill collectors" at Public Storage. I told him I was going to file a mildew claim, and I'm sure he alerted Sedgwick, which is the plan administrator for their claims, to tell me there is a $250 max on "fungus." This is how Public Storage does business. Nothing professional after you've been with them for a long while. No courtesy. No fair treatment. Just cheat you at every turn if they can. Bottom line, STORE YOUR BELONGINGS WITH ANOTHER COMPANY!!!!!

2. Regarding the mice, there was a hole inside of my unit that allowed mice to travel from one unit to the inside of the next unit and to the next unit. The hole was there by design. Management said they would set out poison but the dead mice would cause a foul order in my unit. I had to rig a system to catch and dispose of the mice. And I had to fix the hole myself with sheet metal. Really?
3. The latch on the outside of the door had been pried (attempted burglary). When I asked the manager to fix the latch, she handed me a pop-rivet gun and said, "You can fix it. We don't do that." Really?
4. The rent goes up every year. My rent went up by $40-$45 per month each year. When my rent went up to $583 per month, I discovered that others were paying $180-$373 per month for the same size unit. When I complained to the manager, she requested a rate increase cancellation on my account and said come back in a few months and request a rate reduction. In the mean time I was still paying $200 more per month than others with the same size unit. Really?
The staff was friendly and helpful, but the corporate level is horrible. For $545 I not satisfied with Public Storage. Public Storage is a rip (corp greed), don't rent. If you do have to rent, get out as soon a possible. I wonder if this post will see the light of day. On 10-11-19 I requested a rate reduction, since the current rate is $420 per month and I am paying $545 per month. On 10-16-19 I was informed that my rate was reduced to $490. Public Storage 23 in Wayne are inhumane, disgusting, poor excuses for human beings!!! Losing my son from my life I ensured to save everything of his childhood for the past 21 years. After becoming homeless & losing everything after being sexually assaulted, I had no choice but to get help to save my life, being suicidal at the time. I have never ever ever fallen behind a full month but I've had balances that carried over to the next month.
The past 3 months were the worst for me mentally so I paid what I could when I could to Public Storage and my outstanding balance in July was $129, which I paid $100 of on 08/17, bringing balance to $29, and August, my payment of $230 was due on 08/08 so by the 21st I was 13 days late. As of 08/21/19 I owed $29 & was 13 days late making a payment for August and these despicable, cold-hearted people auctioned my unit!!!! They never once gave me an auction date which I had every right to know so I could have the chance to pay in full to avoid auction or have somebody bid against the highest bidder, in this case they sold my unit for $10!!!! $10 brought this person the last memories I will ever have with my son again...my only child.
After surviving sexually assault I never thought I would be victimized ever again but what Public Storage did to me is worse!!!! 17 years of my son's school projects, clothes, pictures, paintings, toys, altar boy items, his christening outfit from 21 years ago, his communion outfit from 15 years ago...all gone!!!! My only memories were rummaged thru & tossed around like garbage!!! I called Public Storage 23 at least 30 times begging them to help me get my things back. I wasn't even a month behind in my payments!!!! The only thing that got me through the darkest days after the assault was knowing one day when I found a place to live again, I would bring all of my son's baby things in that place and hold them and smell them and remember every single look on my baby's face as he wore or held each of those items.
The owner of Public Storage 23 did not one thing!!! He sold my life for $10. When she told me they sold my items 5 mins after I called them & they didn't pick up the phone I collapsed. Not giving me the auction date & selling my only belongings when I was not even months behind in payments is illegal and I have already contacted the media, the FTC, the BBB, the attorney general, posted a video on YouTube & am hitting every social media outlet with my story. This place has to be stopped. Have no regard for people's personal & most precious items. All they care about is $ and their greed kicked them right in the face because all they got for the unit is $10 and I am filing a major lawsuit against them which will never bring my baby's items back to me but it will teach them to perform due diligence before ever destroying somebody's life like this again. So despicable.
They have not sent me a breakdown of my bills, payments and outstanding balance for each month and I wonder why. When those bills are posted for the public to see and see that my unit was sold for being 12 days late with my payment....I pray every person who has a storage unit at any of the Public Storages gets their things out of there immediately!!!

I mentioned that I had no understanding on this for the money was in my account. I immediately made my monthly payment using the exact method I used on the 2nd of August and 3 to 4 days later it went through. I called customer service who directed me to a Supervisor - who I have left MULTIPLE voicemails over a month ago now, with NO response!!
Second - I was incorrectly charged a late fee on my account. I called customer service, who directed me to a billing supervisor. I have left MULTIPLE voicemails for this supervisor as well, and NO responses!! This is insane! I have no idea what else to do. I will be posting these reviews on all social media platforms until the issues have been resolved. This has been a TERRIBLE experience, and I have no idea what else I can possibly do. Do not waste your time with a rental company that does not value customer satisfaction.

We have had a 10x20 unit for over a year now because we are preparing to sell our house, that one filled up and we got a second unit. When setting this new unit up we said we wanted it set up just like the other unit with autopay and even signed the signature pad when setting it up. Today we get a late fee notice of $30 and I called to inquire why. They state that it was never set up for auto-pay and told me to contact our district manager Alexander about it. I explained the issue and he attempted to reverse the charge, but the system would not let him. I was told to contact the main number again and explain the issue. Once I connected, they were not willing to work with me on getting this resolved even after the district manager tried to reverse the fee. This fee was generated due to an issue on their staff when they failed to set up auto-pay as we requested and signed for.
The person on the phone said they would not help us because we hadn't had that unit for a year. Worst customer service I have had outside of fast food! It’s a shame for them, we sold our house and now need a 3rd unit until we find another house. We are going to go to the U-haul facility down the street. Even if it’s more expensive, it can’t be any worse than the lack of service at this place.

First let me say that if I had read the reviews before I rented a storage unit I would never have went to Public Storage. I have rented from them for two-and-a-half years and I wanted to move my stuff for close to 2 and a half years but that costs money so I have not moved it until now. I am finally renting a truck and moving it somewhere else and will never rent there again. First of all they raised my storage four times in that amount of time. The customer service is horrible. Probably the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. I was trying to organize my stuff about 2 weeks after renting a unit and the site manager came to me and told me that I'm not allowed to be in the storage facility for more than an hour.
They also said I cannot have the door down even halfway whether it's raining or cold. And they will harass you while you're there. They were ridiculous and petty about every little thing. I called the corporate manager and thought surely the corporate manager would make it right. I was sadly mistaken. The corporate manager was a horrible rude lady that didn't care at all about anything I said. This place has the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. She also told me that I was not allowed to be on the site for more than an hour and took the site manager's word on everything she said without even asking my side.
I will never rent from them again! I purposely looked up a place to leave a review so that other people don't have to experience the same treatment. My experience was at the W. Washington St location in Indianapolis, IN. I'm not real sure how far the corporate manager reach goes but this is NOT a company you want to do business with if they allow their employees, much less their corporate managers to treat their customers this way. Overall worst experience I've ever had. And after reading all of the awful reviews, I see I'm not alone. I would've given ZERO stars but that's not an option when leaving a review on this site.

I was wrong!! On July 7th I recieved an email claiming they were doing a move out on the unit I just paid the month for of $183.00. I went in, spoke with the property manager Kelly who straight lied to my face saying she would speak to her manager and get back to me in 2 days regarding a refund. Still have not heard back from her.
I called the district manager, never returned my call and speaking with their 800 number gives you the run around and refuses to allow you to speak with someone higher in charge. This company not only kept the money that I paid the month for and signed a contract on but went ahead and rented the same unit that was already paid for to another individual. This company is a scam and after reading reviews it's clear they do this on many occasions to other individuals as well. Terrible place to rent from.

I was in my unit about 2 years ago, I went last week to finally empty it and to my utter shock, found it had been entered and everything gone through. EXTREMELY expensive collector items were all taken. They definitely entered through the front pull up, locked stall, on the 2nd floor (which you only need a pass code number for). When I went into their office, I was told, "Oh, we had quite a few robberies on that same floor 2 months ago"! We were never sent any notice of that yet they call EVERY month to make sure we will send in payment. There is NO SECURITY AT ALL!! The police said that they are there constantly there. I have had a unit at the Castor and Aramingo store in Philadelphia for a little over one and a half years. Since I have rented the unit my rent has gone up twice, over 100 dollars total. I understand increases. I don't understand how an increase can occur when the service is less. Every time I have gone to my unit there is a problem. For the first 6 or 7 months the gate near my unit was not in working order. When my partner approached the situation the employee asked him "well are you moving?" So does that mean the door doesn't have to be on working order if I'm just going to check on my unit? What about the other guests that may have been moving? For the last 5 or six visits the light in my unit has not been working. After the first 3 times my partner made the staff aware and was told "there is nothing we can do about it". After the last time I went there the light was still out.
When I approached the staff asking for a corporate office number I was asked if I could move my stuff to another unit. This does not at all justify 2 rent increases in less than 2 years. Side note there are little holes in many of my bags from rodents. This definitely does not justify 352 dollars a month. Today was the last straw. I went to my unit at 9:30, the scheduled opening hour. They were not open yet. This was not the first time they opened late. 9:30 is not that early for the opening employee to be late so often. I did call customer service but I still wanted to write this review for anyone looking for a self storage unit that may check reviews.
Don't go to this place. The hours are 9:30-6 but you have to be out by 5:45 or they will stand there and harass you until you leave before 6. The thing is that once you are in your unit and have a lot of items in there like I do it's just a big hassle to rent a truck and empty your unit and go rent at another company and that is how they get you and can raise your rent every 6 months. It's very disappointing.

I rented a unit from Public Storage over a decade ago and had a terrible experience at that time, but over the years, the memory had lost some of its power and, having seen several new and spiffy Public Storage locations opening up around town, I assumed that my earlier experience had been a one off. WRONG. Rented from them over a year ago and they've raised my rates twice. Late fees accrue on the fifth day of the month, even when the fault lies in their website's inability to handle payments properly some of the time. Personnel, after the initial sales pitch routine, are rude, dismissive, insulting - particularly on their central phone system. I'm over seventy years old and I've owned my own business for over forty years. In all of that time, I have never seen a business continue operating, much less grow, with such horrible customer relations. In a way, it's pretty impressive how well Public Storage seems to be doing.
I suppose it's a testament to how optimistic people are, how they generally expect the best - how else to explain how they've managed to continue to entice people into contracts with them. Most likely, it's the visual appearance of the Public Storage locations. Without those visuals, I don't see how they'd last a year, much less several decades. But when one surveys the customer reviews of Public Storage, it's clear that their business model is to entice with good deals, then beat dough out of everyone who'll hold still for it. Stay away from them if you can find alternatives. I was paying almost $450/mo after their raises, then moved to another place in a smaller town a short drive away. I'm now paying $120/mo for the same sized space in a brand new facility. And it's locally owned and run by very nice people. DO NOT rent from Public Storage without exploring all the alternatives.

We moved out of my unit by the end of April 2019. I received a call later that week regarding a piece of furniture we disposed off. While the dumpster had a sign about no dumping, so does my apartment complex --- and it's meant for non-residents. The same day I received the call, my husband immediately went to retrieve it.
I left multiple messages for the manager there, but never received any response or callback. Then last week, I received a collection notice for $93.00 owed to Public Storage. This is my 1st time using Public Storage and it's definitely my LAST!!! I purchased a unit almost 5 months ago with the "first month $1" special although that's totally FALSE ADVERTISING. That bill went from $1 to $73 really fast. That was a major red flag as to what's ahead. I received a email a few days ago in reference to a sizable increase in my monthly fee. I was told they can increase anytime after 6 months as long as they give a 30 day notice. Well ma'am I haven't been there 6 months. Her reply was "IT'S CLOSE ENOUGH". WOW!!! Suggested I could move out if I don't want to pay the increase. I'm almost 800 miles away and paid movers to place my things there. I immediately call corporate.
Guess what??? I found out immediately where the local offices got their customer service skills from. The representative I spoke with what is no help at all. Told me that they can raise the price whenever they wanted to long as they gave a 30 day notice. She suggests I get a smaller unit as if that's an reasonable option. I requested a supervisor. I was transferred to a voicemail. It's 5 DAYS LATER & I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALL. Totally unacceptable. This is so beyond unethical. To get someone in your establishment then price gouge them.
It seems like Public Storage would want to have long working relationships with their customers opposed to nickel and dime'n them. In my line of business, I would have referred many new clients to the Stone Mountain office. I'm so beyond happy that I didn't reference anyone to get entangled with Public Storage piss poor business operations. I'm going to a business that knows how to do business with integrity. After having three negative experiences with Public Storage at this location, it is time for me to share my experience so that others may be spared similar experiences. My first experience was receiving a call saying "we need you to bring us a key" so that we can enter your unit on account of reported flooding in the adjacent unit. The water damage was mostly contained to the adjacent unit; I didn't have any damage on account of all of my belongings were in watertight totes. The water leak was the result of improper drainage maintenance around the building and parking lot.
The second issue was 4 months after moving into a 10x30 unit I received notification that my rent was being changed; per their contract they are allowed to change your rate once per year. When I inquired why my rent was going up 15% I was told their operational expenses were going up and they need to cover the increased cost of toilet paper; no I am not making this up! At this point I elected to move into a smaller 10x20 unit that was 1/3rd less expensive. Well guess what. After 4 months of being in the smaller unit I just received notice that effective 30 day henceforth my rent will be going up 21%! That is correct a twenty one percent increase.
Technically they are allowed to do this per their contract, but I think their willingness to stick me with a percentage increase this large speaks to the company's practice of simply looking after their bottom line. I know they can't justify a 21% increase other than to simply say that new price reflects the current spot market for storage units today in this market.
If you are going to rent a unit from Public Storage go in knowing full well that you too will very likely receive your annual rent increase a few months after moving in (they have got you seeing how hard and expensive moving your stuff is), and if my experience is any guide, you can expect your increase to be 15%, 20% or even more. RENTER BE FORWARNED!

I live 3 hours away and had to get back for work. I called headquarters in Glendale California for help and was told that they wouldn't take my complaint because I'm not the primary holder!!! Are they serious! It doesn't matter because they were shown ID and knows my name is on the agreement. He and I both spoke to Jennifer on Friday and informed them I would be coming. He gave authorization. I called them today but was told Jennifer was off and that there are no notes in the computer at all! After I made countless phone calls including to the district manager which never replied to myself or the employees on duty today, I was finally allowed to get my own belongings after they called my friend again to get the permission that he'd already given on Friday.
So the employee let me through the gate and knew I needed to get out! We are LIVID! This is unacceptable! I had to wait for a customer to let me out and he witnessed the whole thing. I should have called the police! And nobody has yet apologized to me. They should be shut down... Very bold business! How could headquarters not take my complaint because I wasn't my friend. It was me locked in and held prisoners not him! I will not stop until I have placed a review all over social media and every business site that I can possibly!

I have reached out to Public Storage corporate with respect to this matter prior to this posting but received no response - to no surprise given the events which have transpired with them. My father passed away last summer and my mother is the legal executrix of his estate. He has a storage unit at one of their facilities. My mother had been in contact with the regional manager who made the payment and transferring process extremely difficult and was entirely insensitive of the situation. Not to mention she requested information that would fall under personal information that legally she has no right to see.
My mother provided all of the necessary documentation - a copy of death certificate, legal appointment of her as executor, and the incompetent manager Donna **, who was supposedly consulting her legal department, refuses to allow my mother to pay the bill to bring current. She told my mother that she can only send emails to my father's email address (who is deceased). Clearly we have access to the account but the principle of the matter has gone above and beyond what could be described as disgraceful customer service. Legally my mother is in charge of my father's property given "pass-thru" laws as well the fact that she has been appointed Executrix of his Estate. Not only does my mother deserve an apology but this manager deserves a reprimand and a course in human decency. To say I am appalled would be too kind at this point. Again, to no surprise, no response from Public Storage.
It should be noted that the only person that was sympathetic and kind about the situation is Amanda from the local Morganville, NJ location. I did attempt to make a similar post on Google Reviews but you are only able to review the local facility and I will not give the local facility a negative review because they seem to be more competent and caring than their corporate counterpart.

At 1 month and 3 days I am already in auction status for 10$ that was a prorated amount that has now turned into 279.00. because I was told the 10$ needed to be paid by the 28th and on the 28th I was told they would not accept the payment and had already been issued a 30$ fee because it was not paid by the 27th. I was not told to pay by 27th and I started my storage on the 28th and nowhere does it say 27th. Anyway they said read terms and conditions that payment is due every 30 days.
Well guess what? My 2nd month storage had 31 days in it which made it due on the 27th which put me in auction status on the 1st of April 2019 which added more fees my storage of 148/month plus my 10$ prorated is now at 279$ 1 month and 3 days after I got the storage and was told by customer service they do not remove fees for anything at all within the 1st year you have storage. So it's pay double or we auction your stuff in your second month. These fees are so unreasonable and undisclosed as they think I should have known when there is 31 days in the month your due date is 1 day sooner so pay it on a day you didn't have any idea about or pay double like me.

I had been doing business with Safe Guard Storage for over 10 years and only had 2 price increases over that time which were $5 pr/mo increments but these crooks come in and within only a few months of taking over have notified me that they are increasing my rent $15!
And on top of that they are removing all the lights in the outdoor garages which means people that have larger garages are S.O.L. especially when it gets dark in the fall/winter they will not be able to see in their units. All to cheapen their amenities and to save a few dollars! I will be looking for another company to do business with.... Do yourself a favor and stay away from this crooked company!!!!

Although the salespeople were friendly, there were some upsetting practices. They tried to insist on us taking insurance for our unit which we did not want to pay. I called my homeowners insurance and was told that it was not necessary. It took a lot of work to get the charge removed after we demonstrated that we had the insurance. We were surprised the charge for the lock and assumed that would be included.
Our rental started at the time that we were moving to another location and of course quite busy. We assumed that the price quoted would be for a year but got a steep increase after 6 months... (Guess they know you are over a barrel and they can increase any amount). I called to negotiate less of an increase and was successful but didn't realize that it was only for a month. Before we left after 15 months, we were hit with another increase. Beware when you start with them that you don't know how much or how often they will increase. Our location in Marlton NJ was clean and safe but we were disturbed by their outlandish increases.

Their A/C units are old and do not cool off their supposed A/C controlled storage units and they will charge you a lot of money for those garbage units. Those facilities smell bad and their managers are very lazy, unprofessional and rude. They also bad mouth the company to every customer who presents a complaint to them. Now they have their facility's bathrooms locked up all day long and after 6:00 pm you cannot use their bathrooms at all because the managers were instructed by the regional district managers to do so! If you are still moving after 6:00 pm you need to bring a bucket with you in case you need to go to the bathroom, which you will have no access to! UNBELIEVABLE!!! What a shame this company is!

I've used Public Storage several times in the past several years. 1st, they upsell you. You have to buy their lock which is about $15. Ok, whatever. Oh and if your storage unit has two doors, yes, you are paying for two locks. Always ask if they have a unit with only one door because they will try to rent you out that unit. Also they will keep trying to pressure you to buy any and all accessories they have. Luckily, I'm good with saying no and shopping around.
But that's not the real problem. In my contract it states that I must give at least a 3 day notice that I was vacating my unit. I gave them a month's notice via my account online. I told them I was moving out on the 1st of the month. I go to close out of my account and they still requested a bill for the full amount. Now in my past experiences, I have vacated the unit at various times of the month and have been refunded for any unused portion of the month. Now they don't. I have to pay the rent for the whole month even though it's in their system that I am moved out. I don't mind paying the balance if I am being refunded for the unused portion of the month. So what's the point in even putting in a 3 day notice. You should tell customers to be out by the end of the month. I was a long time customer of Public Storage and will never use their services again. I recommend you to never go with them.

It was easy to book the storage space (12' X 30') online. The move-in process was great. The folks working at the local store have been great. The issue is with their contract and pricing policy. If you read the fine print of the contract they can increase your rent at any time with 30 days notice, no justification and no cap to the increase. I have been in the unit for 7 months and have received several rent increases already. The local manager and regional manager blame it on the automated system which is set to increase the rent when the market rents go up due to supply and demand.
This is a lie as the market rate for my same size unit at the same location has steadily decreased since I moved in and is currently over $100 less than the rate they want to increase my rent to. When I have called the local manager and regional manager they have said there is nothing they can do, but then have agreed to hold the rent steady with no increases, always with the threat that the rate will go up. The time invested in calling and following up to keep the rent from increasing is crazy as it always takes several calls. I would recommend looking elsewhere for storage and read the contract.

Had no idea that Public Storage was not accredited with the Better Business Bureau. Had no idea that Public Storage had numerous complaints against them. Had no idea that they will auction your storage unit off in less than 60 days. Public Storage sucks, the worst storage company and is definitely not for their customers. This company hit customers with liens, lockout fees, late fees, double rent and ready to auction your property off by the 57 day. By time you're in your second month, near the auction date, you are owing this company under $400.00 if not that! Moreover, I've been with this company perhaps six years total. Had my fair share of experiences on things that could happen with my outside life, therefore, I was faced with the threat of auctions.
Each and every time it occurred, I'd always met the deadline and paid whatever extra they accumulated from me. No problem! However, I was faced with an auction date on 12/27/18 in which, I'd didn't know because I always follow my payments by the generated computer date. Nevertheless, I'd paid by computer the date that was registering 12/31/18. I would usually pay by computer. Furthermore, On 2/16/19, I was up for another auction, so I'd called to find out the auction date, to let them know that I'm having a hard time logging in to make a payment and only to be told that my unit was auctioned on 12/27/18. I was horribly shocked and in disbelief. Undoubtedly, I lives in New Jersey and my unit was at 1015 Gould Drive, in Bossier City, Louisiana, 71111. My unit was in my nephew's name who emergency moved me into that storage company as I was the one who always made the payments.
Nonetheless, it's hard to complain against this company on the inside. The customer Service sucks as well. Not professional with mannerism. My journey will be to put in a claim against this company who I highly recommend to DON'T patronize their business. I wouldn't refer or recommend them to anyone. Cube Smart I would recommend. Public Storage have nothing on them nor compare. Note: I'd planned on traveling to this storage to break it down and discontinued it. I just wanted to be the one to do so and had that opportunity. The bidder of that unit #G320 struck it rich and my life went down the drain.

I called the property manager back and she told me they inquired with the district manager who said and I quote "they know the balance due so too bad".

I had a storage unit in Houston, Texas (Greenbriar location) for almost three years. Last month, when I tried to pay a $5.00 balance, the payment went through as $ 500.00 due to a glitch in their website. When I called to address the issue, I was told it was irreversible and they aggressively went after the $500.00 dollar amount even after they knew it was a mistake on their part. I did not owe them $500.00, I owed them $5.00. I paid by electronic check, so they kept bouncing it back hoping to ** my bank account of the $500.00 that was not owed to them, which subsequently put my account into overdraft status. Then they attached a bad check fee, a late charge, and a lien fee onto my account. After I put a stop payment against them, they threw my unit into auction status and changed the auction date without ANY notification of an actual date and tried to take my stuff. Unless all their bogus fees, etc were paid they were going to auction my unit off.
This all happened in the span of two and a half weeks. Public Storage is a trap. Unethical. Complete rip off. This cost me $600.00 collectively. I saved my stuff by one day and that took aggressively contacting them daily to make sure my auction date had not changed. PS does not give notices on auction dates. Two incidents of improper late fees and delinquency fees which the District Manager, Fatima, refused to help resolve. Public Storage Location 20175. 1) my credit card for auto pay was lost/stolen. I went online to pay with a different card. Public Storage processed it as a check and claimed it was returned by the bank (BECAUSE IT WAS A CREDIT CARD NUMBER) and then charged a $26.80 Delinquency fee and a $25 late fee. I would not have entered a credit card on a check payment page. You would have to enter a routing number and account number. There is no possible way that I inaccurately did this. The person working the desk told me that if an account is delinquent, it immediately converts a credit card payment to a check and submits all payments as only checks.
So when Public Storage converted my credit card payment into a check, they knew it would be returned because no such account existed. They then charged me late fees and a return check fee for a check I never wrote. This is clearly a fraudulent practice. 2) On 12/10 in an attempt to pay said late fees under threat of having my unit auctioned I went online to pay by credit card $196.80. I was then duplicate charged by Public Storage. I did not know this until I received my statement on or about 1/1/19. Without my knowledge, Public Storage then claims to have credited my account for the duplicate charge. I called my bank to investigate, and apparently the bank reversed one of the charges.
When the bank reversed the charge, with no notification to me, Public Storage then claimed I was again delinquent, because now what had been a credit on my account was now a delinquency and charged $88.30 in delinquency fees, even though I had no knowledge that the chargeback occurred, nor did I authorize duplicate payments for the $196.80. First, I called the facility and was told that the district manager Fatima had called and left me a voicemail about it. This is patently untrue. I never received a voicemail from her. I then called and left her a message. She never returned my call. I then had to go to the location in person.
Fatima was rude, unhelpful and condescending. She refused to reverse any of the aforementioned charges ($140.10 total at this point) and threatened to auction off my unit if I did not make a payment right then and there of $285.10 which included purported rent of $185.80, Insurance of $11.00, a late fee of $26.80 and a Lien Fee of $61.50. Thus a total of $239.40 has been stolen from me by Public Storage. These business practices are unconscionable. I suspect that the "website" often makes such mistakes and then it is blamed on the customer and fees are incurred. Having no recourse because their storage unit has now been taken, people are forced to pay these ridiculous fees. T
There is no possible way this is an isolated incident, every post on the Facebook page is a complaint, one star ratings on everything, tons of disgruntled customers. It appears to be, based on the manager's quote "we never refund late fees or charges. It is company policy" and the other employee's comment that credit card payments are "automatically" turned into check payments, a consistent business practice of the company. They have also blocked me from their Facebook page for suggesting to all the other disgruntled customers that they also file BBB Complaints and contact the media.

I am a musician and have been a tenant at another storage facility. Given that I live in a small studio in San Francisco I've used that space for guitars. I wasn't using PA speakers, guitar amplifiers and cabinets, any oversized items that wouldn't fit in my apartment. Over the last 3 years I've been a model tenant. Always paid on time and in full and my experience and relationship with the employees of that Facility has been wonderful. They've always been helpful, courteous and friendly.
My only issue was with the hours closing at 5 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on weekends. For the amount of money that I was paying I decided to seek out a 24-hour place or one that was at least open until the evening. I thought I'd found it when I read the ad for Public Storage saying convenient hours of access 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. but I missed the small print that read "May vary by location".
When I came into the office they did the standard procedure of asking me what I was going to be storing you there. I told them musical equipment at which time the other man that was working there in a condescending way said, "You can't access it all the time. We can't have a whole lot of in and out. This is a storage facility. We can't have people loitering out front." As if to suggest that I was Indigent and planned on living in the space.
When I told them that I was almost certain that I had read on the website that they were open till 10 p.m they were very dismissive. Said, "Absolutely not." I fumbled around with my phone trying to find the website where it is said they're open till 10 and another potential customer came in. He was a clean-cut strait-laced businessman type. They asked how they could accommodate him. He said in what and what would he be storing. He replied that it was paperwork and documents boxes mostly business stuff but he needed access to it all the time or a lot. They assured him that that was not a problem. So my point is employees in this company treat people different based on what they look like, how they dress. I'm friendly, polite and articulate and it doesn't feel good to be treated like a second-class citizen because you have long hair. I'll spend my money somewhere that is not prejudiced against rockers.

I've been with Public Storage for over 3 years and I'm moving out my stuff today. Was called today and informed that I still have to pay for the month. Today is the 5th, was not told that they no longer prorate but was told they would prorate when I first started using their services. I pay $249 A MONTH which is ridiculous. The late fee is another 40 plus dollars. The storage unit itself is in need of work. All of my belongings are covered in piles of dust. Stay far away from this company. Not worth the headache.

I have been a customer of the Public Storage location on Ogden in Aurora IL for 7 years. I had 24hr access due to my small business needs that occasionally fall outside of office hours. Earlier this year when trying to enter after-hours for a job, I was denied access. I tried multiple times. I called the manager from the parking lot with no answer. I left a message which was never returned. This weekend I had another job and found a pile of snow and ice in front of my storage unit. The manager was out, and office locked. I had to clear the snow myself.
Again today I called and left a message. It was returned this time. The manager blamed the snow pile on their snow removal vendor. Upon asking about my 24-hour access revocation without notice, the manager said I never had it. Public Storage took no responsibility. You might think they would value a long-term customer who tolerates their annual ~10% cost increases each year. Sadly no. If you are a business, I would strongly discourage you from considering Public Storage. It is not worth the risk to your business.

From the moment I made an inquiry at Public Storage in Thornton Colorado the customer service has been poor. This poor customer service deteriorated when I became the victim of domestic violence and they couldn't care less about protecting me from my abuser by simply allowing me to retrieve my property. First, the procedure to sign up for a unit requires an appointment during hours that most working persons cannot meet (appointments are limited and not designed to be convenient). At this point the customer service really breaks down as the lies begin. I was told to simply have a friend come and set up the unit. That I can set everything up online, including multiple authorized users.
The personnel there do not clearly explain their procedures and policies with respect to unit ownership vs. authorized users and never explained to me that I would be putting any items stored there in the hands of this "Friend" forever. After having many of my belongings in a unit that a friend who happened to be staying in my home at the time set up for me as the personnel at Public Storage suggested (something I would not have done if they had not suggested this) and still being listed as an authorized user, the personnel there denied me access to the unit (despite having a code and key).
I explained that things had changed. I was now the victim of domestic violence at the hands of this "friend" and that I wanted to transfer the unit to my name or simply retrieve my property as I had a protection order in place protecting me from the "friend" who set up the unit. (This friend per the protection order was not allowed to contact me and I was advised by counsel and the police not to contact him). All I wanted to do was get my things and move them elsewhere so they were out of this abuser's control and I would not inadvertently bump into him.
Not only was the woman completely inattentive and uncaring (despite knowing the "friend" and me from previous dealings), she was harsh towards me and told me to get the police if I need to. I requested the police come to do a civil standby and to deal with me retrieving my things (which is commonly done when protection orders are in place in order to retrieve property).
While the police were there, the women stated she had to contact the "friend" to make sure I was still authorized. The "friend" never had expressly unauthorized me and never changed the lock to suggest I should not enter the unit -- she apparently went out of her way to make this harder for me even though the police were present and could see I had a key. I confirmed his email and his phone number with her. He did not answer; she continued to be rude to me while the police were present. She told the police I was not welcome on her property and that the unit was not in my name. I asked what would happen if the unit wasn't paid for, she stated that the items would be sold at auction. I left without my property in tears.
For weeks a third-party tried to deal with both the "friend" and public storage to retrieve the property. This third-party told me they continued to contract this "Friend" to no avail. I continued to receive emails from Public Storage addressed as, "Dear 'friend's' name." Despite their insistence that I was not the unit owner, could not access my property and wasn't welcome on the property. To make matters worse after the first missed payment on the unit, they called (a number that they knew was mine and not the "friend's"), leaving a message saying, "Hi 'friend's name'. We need to talk to you immediately." I immediately called back (no answer) and left a message stating this was not "friend's name's" number, that I believed they knew this and that I find this to be inappropriate given their position towards me. I received the same voicemail the next day again addressed to "friend's name."
I continue to receive emails to my email address (despite clear communication that the email address they are using is not the email for the unit holder). I feel that Public Storage Unit stole my property from me and went out of their way to make a very difficult experience worse. I have rented other units with other persons at other facilities in the past without incident. There is no need for Public Storage's rigid policies that are not clearly explained to customers. I am not sure how these people stay in business.

First they make you buy a lock that you cannot use anywhere else but yet they don't buy it back or let you rent it. The dollar for the first month only applies to certain units. I have tried multiple times to go online to pay which I have had nothing but issues and calling the local facility where the unit is, is zero help, they tell you to call the customer service line. They prorate to move in but will not when you move out. Everything seems to be a scam and see how much money they can get out of you. I have been calling the local facility which one of the staff argued about what I got when I moved in, she was wrong and I was correct with zero apology.
I have been calling the customer service line since the beginning of December with a return call on my voicemail saying call the customer service line back which is repeated when you call back. When I answer my phone they hang up right away. I have called the district manager for my location several times with no return call. I called the corporate office and left messages for the customer relations, Debra or Deborah again asking for return calls with zero callbacks. They charged me a late fee since I could not get the online service to work. They will charge you $20 to do it over the phone with them and $10 if you do it on the automated line. So not customer service oriented although that is what their slogan is about, if you expect a return call for issues and you ask for supervisors then forget it and they have business hours to respond not business days. Horrible place.

On Tuesday May 29, 2018, I got stuck at Public Storage on Lee Highway in Centreville, VA. I was there for about 3 hours from 8 to about 11. While there I called Public Storage’s corporate and talked to people who did nothing but blame me for being stuck. I told them the door was malfunctioning. They told me it’s not opening because I left late. That was not the case. Something was wrong with the gate. They berated me and yelled at me. One of the women I talked to was so rude scolding at me “pay attention”, but I was trying to talk to bother her and the police officer, who was on the other side of the gate to help me. Not once did any of them agree with me that the door was malfunctioning. After multiple attempts, I talked to a representative, who told me to call the local police, as they should have a code to open me.
So I called the police who tried codes they had. None worked. He talked to them and spent two hours punching in codes to no avail. No one in that company told me of any plan to get me out of there. At around 11, I parked my car in the back and the police drove me home. The next day I called Public Storage about 20 times. Literally. I was nervous about my car being towed while I was working. At about noon I took Uber and got my car from Public Storage. When I got there the alternative gate was opened because the normal gate was malfunctioning like I told them. I went inside and told the employee that I had to leave my car overnight. Her response was “Oh, so that is why your car was there this morning” I was waiting in line to talk to her about how I had to take Uber and how I believe the company should pay for it. She then said to me “So what do you want?”
Stunned at her unempathetic response, I just left and got out of the line. It was so rude. When I went home I wrote a review both on their Instagram page about what happened to me and them on Yelp and Google. The Public Storage Instagram blocked me. The next day (Thursday) I got a call from Public Storage District Manager Jillian **. The very first sentence out of her mouth was “how do you feel?” Bewildered by that question, I said, “I feel fine.” Second sentence was to tell me that she called me because she saw my review and then told me to delete it because it would hurt her performance. Taken aback by the same apathy I got from the woman when I picked up my car, I said, “I would think about it.”
I didn’t think they did anything to justify me removing the bad review. Because to me, if I knew someone got stuck in a facility I was in charge of and I couldn’t find that person, especially a woman, I would call that person ASAP to make sure they are okay. She didn’t do that. The other ‘manager” who supposedly checked up on me didn’t do that. The woman working at Public Storage when I picked up my care couldn’t care less as well. Jillian also told me she talked to me that night I was stuck. So she knew I was stuck there. No excuse why she waited till a negative review to check up on me. She then went to tell me she had someone come to check on me two nights prior. She never told me of this person that night that I called. In fact, I left that place believing no one would come to open the gate for me and that Public Storage, including Jillian **, shrugged their shoulders and left me there.
Later when I got home, I saw a self-gratifying email District ** Jillian ** sent me where she said things to the tune of ‘I am sorry I tried so hard to help you and you couldn’t be helped’, ‘I am sorry that I sent someone and when they came you were not there’ “I…, I…, I…, I…”. I emailed her back and asked her why she never told me that she sent someone to help me? I got off the phone with her thinking no one would come and that they didn’t really care. I got off the phone with them STILL accusing me of leaving late, and still giving me new codes to put in the access system, after telling them multiple times that the gate was malfunctioning. She emailed me back saying she told the police officer she was going to bring someone.
I told her, “Why would you tell the police officer and not me? It makes NO sense. I am the paying customer of this storage facility who happened to have gotten locked inside because of a malfunctioning gate. But you tell a third party, who never told me, that you are bringing someone. I am a woman stuck outside of a gated facility that has NO lights, pitch dark and I’m frightened. Also the police officer told me himself that I should call them the next morning and let them have it.”
I told her I won’t remove my review to help her work “performance”, which I took to mean her BONUS check would be affected by me leaving a bad review. Her response to me was to tell me that her boss knows everything and sat there with her during her phone call where she told me to remove my review so she could get a better performance score. She also told me she has tried time and time again to apologize and make my experience pleasant. In the same email she told me about a man named Dilraj who “who left his 6 month old BABY at home with his wife to drive to the property.” And I found that comment about the baby to be not only laughable but asinine. REALLY?
I felt like she was guilting me by saying he had to leave his 6 month old to come get me. He is a manager doing his job. I am sure he doesn’t take his baby to work. And I’m sure Jillian doesn’t take her daughter to work. I don’t take my kids to work. No one does. That is how it is. I never complained to her about leaving my family to be stuck, nor did I say how when I went home my family was asleep. Because I never blamed her nor Public Storage for being stuck there. Because I know it was a mistake. When you are a manager you are responsible for unintended problems that arises. That is what Dilraj and Jillian ** signed up for. She then told me she offered to pay for my Uber fare because she felt sorry for me, but she can tell that cannot turn my experience around.
No you should offer because you are LEGALLY responsible for paying it. You are not doing me a favor. I sent my receipt to her MULTIPLE times with NO reimbursement. I have tried calling her, because I felt her emails to me were her self-serving way of telling her bosses what she did, instead of conversing with me. She doesn’t pick up. In fact she stopped communicating with me. Half her emails were also about how “my boss knows everything” “I am forwarding this to my boss”. Which tells me she never meant to pay me back in the first place. Her whole purpose in contacting me, which she admitted to when she first contacted me TWO days after the incident, was to make sure I remove my review, for her to get a lucrative payday. When I didn’t her boss and her obviously came up with a plan to ignore me, because they were going to lose money due to a bad performance review.
Jillian ** knows better. She worked at Target as a team leader for 3 years after working there for another 4 years, and knows customer service. I’m sure having a degree in English from Stony Brook University didn’t help much but she has worked in customer service enough to know that you don’t dodge a customer for 7 months. I didn’t know how to go about it because it was obvious she was upset, but why should I remove a review for a woman who did nothing but SCOLD me about someone leaving their BABY at home to take care of a customer who was stuck at a place for 3 hours at night? Having been a manager before. I would have made it right with my customer. And made sure to follow up. She hasn’t contacted me, but I have made attempts to contact her. To me she is retaliating by ignoring me.
Please do not use this company. Jillian ** is a horrible District manager and the worst manager of ANY company I have ever dealt with. When I left Public Storage, my items had water damage ALL over them and also water was all over my items. And there are BUGS. I called them about that several times, and they never pick up. Public Storage directs phone calls by if you are a current renter or not. If you are not people will pick up, if you are good luck getting someone. Once you are a customer they don’t care. Jillian needs more training in being a manager. She has failed big time.

I insisted on an explanation as to how could this have happened when I had received several confirmation emails and phone calls from the company the day before to confirm I was coming in. Which I assured them I would be there at the scheduled time. I am now told that a scheduled appointment does not mean your spot is reversed. What it does mean is that it might be still available. While I anticipated there might be an increase, I was shocked to find my monthly rent went from $43.00/month to $75.00/month. That is a 74% increase. I didn't get any letter, or email. Now the holiday weekend has started so I doubt I'll hear anything until Monday. Even at that, I'm not holding my breath. I was told by the onsite and district manager that the rental prices are market driven and therefore because there was a shortage of rental units at the size that I had rented the price would go up. In my mind they pulled a bait, getting you in at the lower rate, and rate, increasing your monthly rental fee once they have you in there. I rented a large unit for my daughter's things, she lived in a three bedroom home, so to move it to another unit, which would require a large truck, would be costly. I moved my stuff into a small unit a couple of years ago. Over the course of my time at Public Storage, I didn't have any significant problems with the company. They hike your rate by $5 every six months a couple of times, but apparently that's pretty standard for storage units. The unit that I rented was pretty dirty - it was an inside unit but not temperature controlled, and the top of the unit was open to the building's rafters. Needless to say, I found A LOT of bird droppings and nesting materials all over my stuff, so make sure you cover your things if you move in here.
My real problem with Public Storage didn't come until my move-out day. I walked into my unit and the light bulb was burned out. The unit is pitch-black because it's an interior unit, but I wasn't too worried about it at first - I'll just head to the office and they can change out the light bulb, right? I walked back to the office, passing an employee who is sweeping the aisles. I had driven past the same guy as I drove back to my unit. He seemed busy and didn't look up as I passed, so I kept moving to the office. I get to the office and the door is locked, and no one will be back for another 45 minutes. Again, this is more irritating than anything. Apparently I just have bad timing.
I walk back to my car/unit to wait, but on the way I see the same guy still out sweeping. Now, my unit is all the way down the aisle from the office, but it's in the same building, which means this guy could see me enter the PS facilities, go to my unit, head to the office, and then head back toward my unit. He jumps in his golf cart to drive away as I approach, and I have to step toward him and give a bit of a shout for him to stop. Now this is where things get fun.
"Excuse me, do you change light bulbs?" "Nope, I can't do that." "Uhhh...?" "We're all out and I can't order any more." "I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm trying to move my stuff and can't see anything." "Well. What am I supposed to do? I'd have to go out and buy light bulbs out of my own pocket." This goes back and forth a bit, before I finally tell him that this really isn't my problem, asking for a light bulb is well within reason given that I'm paying for a unit with a light in it, and I'd appreciate some solution. I ask if there is someone returning to the office soon. Nope, he's it! He finally agrees to grab a light bulb from another unit to put in mine for the time being. That's a perfectly acceptable solution! I'm not sure why that was so difficult to come up with.
As a side note - these bulbs are up way higher than I am able to reach, so this isn't something I could have just done on my own. This guy had to use a long pole to get the job done. Unfortunately the new (re-used) bulb wouldn't work either, and he determined that there was an electrical issue in my unit. Again, no solutions. No one he could call, and no flashlights or anything similar for me to borrow. He left me standing in the dark to figure it out for myself. Not only was this employee incapable of engaging in any sort of problem-solving, he also watched me struggle to find someone in the office and would have buzzed right by me in his golf cart, knowing full well that he was the only employee on the property at the time. I pulled my bird-dropping covered possessions out of my unit, and I swore to never use this company again.

I am writing to complain about my belongings being destroyed at Public Storage's Butler Road facility early in 2018. I rented there for a few years starting in 2016 with no real problems except that the place was dusty and needed more cleaning which I stated to the supervisor there on several separate occasions. I found my unit infested by rodents on May 1, 2018. I immediately filed a claim and moved out and expected Public Storage, a big and powerful company to acknowledge their responsibility to keep rodents at bay and thus compensate me for my belongings lost especially since I did not store any food in my unit.
This is not an unreasonable request just to be compensated for items lost from a company who rakes in millions a year. You would expect Public Storage to have fair business practices and have a fund for duped customers like me. This should be normal practice! I calculated the damage and it came to $2300. This amount is nothing to Public Storage. Items lost were mostly gently used baby items (I was saving for my next child) including a car seat, bassinet, pack and play, baby carriers, and my things including dining room chairs, speakers, wick basket, air beds, among other things.
To my absolute horror their insurance company Sedgwick (or Orange Door) does not cover Vermin and could only compensate for $250. This adds serious insult to injury. I then wrote to all the executives individually including Ronald Havner, John Reyes, Debra **, and they did not care that I was just asking to be compensated for baby items lost. Seriously what a lack of heart!
I cannot express my absolute horror at the way I have been treated by Public Storage. I would like to ask that Public Storage fairly compensate me for my lost belongings. Informing renters that a rodent risk exists and that separate insurance to cover possible damage if necessary is critical. I was not told at the time this was necessary. I would also like to urge that Public Storage take the courtesy to alert renters when rodent problems are evident (there were droppings all over the second floor) in the facility so that renters can check in on their belongings. Furthermore, regular cleaning of older facilities such as Butler Road is necessary. I am now renting at Cube Smart and have been impressed with their facilities which are spotless as they are regularly cleaned.

THE WORST PLACE EVER!!! While moving my things in a unit I'd previously had reserved I noticed I was running out of room and that I would need another unit. After making a reservation online the I went to the office to pay for the unit. The employee was aware that I'd made the reservation took me to see it & we went back to the office to confirm and pay. I stayed in the office for 25 minutes waiting on the employee to complete the transaction while being walked through it over the phone.
My cc was charged. She told me everything was fine and to let her know when I got to the gate if the access code worked. IT DIDN'T! so I used the code form the other unit I have to get in because I didn't have time to go back in and wait any longer being that my moving guys had been waiting the whole time I was there unable to continue not knowing where I wanted my items placed. All while on a schedule and not to mention we were EXHAUSTED from unpacking two 26" trucks.
I went back to the unit to continue unpacking when the employee came to the unit and TOLD me that I needed to come back to the office because of something that she did wrong (made the account in my mom's name that my other unit name is in) so AGAIN I had to go back. When I got back to the office she again was on the phone being instructed on how to correct the issue this time I was there for 15 minutes. She told me that they reversed the charges and I needed to present my cc again to be charged AGAIN! I told her that now those funds will not be available to me for 3 days and that, that is a big inconvenience for me.
I told her that I would need to leave because I had to return the two trucks that I have and I was VERY close to the time of the return. After waiting a few more minutes I couldn't wait any longer. She said everything was ok. I left she then RAN to my car tapped on my window and TOLD me that I HAD TO COME BACK IN that there was some paperwork she didn't have me sign. NOW I'M PISSED!!!
I WENT BACK IN she was still on the phone being walked through on how to retrieve the forms. after getting up looking in the file cabinets and couldn't find any. They came through via fax she said she'll have to use those and that I'd have to come back to the facility and sign the originals. I got my two moving trucks back late and was charged an additional day. FOR BOTH which caused me more financial strain, the next morning was called by a different employee asking can I come back to the facility one day this week because they have no payment for the unit.

I am very unhappy with my experience using Public Storage. I've been trying to move out of and close my unit for months now, and the company has made it extremely difficult. In my move, I lost the keys to my unit, but they told me I can have the lock cut. In order to do that, I had to visit the unit in person because there is no way to fill out the required form online. So I made arrangements to visit the facility and filled out the form. I was told that the manager would call me ahead of time to let me know when they would be available to cut the lock, so I can be at the property. They cut locks at the end of every month (or so I was told).
No one called me at the end of the month, and considering I have almost nothing left in my unit, I assumed they were able to cut it without issue. Then I continued to be charged the following month. When I tried to call about it, the employee was extremely difficult and told me that she couldn't help me. I asked for the manager's phone number and only got it after telling her that I wanted to speak directly with her manager.
I left messages for the manager and called a few times... No response. He finally called me back and - to put it nicely - was not pleasant to speak with at all. I explained my situation and he clearly only cared about the money. Every time I tried to explain that I was having a difficult time closing the unit at all, instead of getting a human response, he told me that I still owe money and can't get out of it. I told him multiple times that I understand, but I am trying to close the unit and they are not letting me. I wanted to know if there was another way to close it or if they would at least admit that the system was faulted and have some human decency. I was interrupted multiple times for the manager to tell me that I owe money. I will now have to take a day off work to bring a locksmith out on my own dime on top of paying additional months' cost for the unit because they won't close it.

The next time I call the office to asked if the elevator were working but they never answer the phone so I drove all the way and ask them why they don't answer the phone and she told me that she has to make 600 phone calls that day and they never know when the elevator works. On Sunday I could not finish to move out because only one elevator was working and because it works but is too slow.
On Monday I finish moving and she said I still have a balance that I have to pay the full month. I said I'm not paying a penny anymore but still they sent me an email that said that I have to paid the whole month. This is an abuse to the consumer. Please avoid this place is bad bad bad. Here is a letter I got on the email. "When you moved out of your storage space on 12/01/2018, you left a balance of $360.00 on your account. You’ll find your Balance due Details below, which includes any additional fees that were applied upon full inspection of your vacated storage space. You’ll need to pay this amount in full within 10 business days to avoid further collection efforts."

I expected the insurance would be for theft or natural disaster, not faulty equipment. I specifically paid more monthly for a larger unit with direct access that I was told would ensure my belonging would be safe. I specifically inquired about the unit being watertight because I knew what was to be stored.

Within 8 days of buying a storage and taking over a previous storage company Public Storage Corporate gave me a letter to vacate. I was the other storefront directly next door inside of the building, on a commercial month to month lease, in which I had no reason to suspect the current owners would terminate my contract too abruptly. I had only been renting there two months when it went up for sale, and only four months when Public Storage took it over. During that time I painted the entire shop, had signs put up outside and by the street, changed all my LLC information, website info and had a grand opening!! I had a steady stream of clients and leads being built for this location.
The day it became Public Storage, and they took over, immediately they locked me out of the back gate and said no customers could use the trash. It was only for public employees. I was paying for trash, water and utilities. On several occasions I asked the managers what was going to happen to me, and with no real information and answers they acted like I was overreacting. Told me they would give me a better commercial lease because they had nothing on file. I showed up on a Sunday and all of my signs had been removed, even though I had been previously promised it would stay up on the building. The awning taken down over my entrance. I had to ask them for my signs and then they acted arrogant when I had to ask for them back. I went in that following Monday and the female manager told me to bring all of my lease info in because she didn't have anything on me and Public would do their own commercial lease.
The very next day I got a letter saying I was being terminated. My heart has never sank so low. I built my business up around this location as it was affordable and had natural light and room to store my props. All the money and effort being put into this location was for nothing. I reached out to the Commercial Property Manager, Candace **, from whom I received a letter of termination from, and pleaded with her for an extension. They gave me an additional month and a half. When payment was due, I tried to go in as I always have and I couldn't pay, since they had no information on me.
So I had to blindly mail a check to someone I've never done business with. I had to call and demand they email me in writing that I did in fact have a deposit and I needed to know when and how it would be returned. During these couple of calls she bragged about the millions of square feet and hundreds of commercial properties they have and that I was not an exception. Basically, they know what they're doing, and go screw yourself, because I don't have a legal leg to stand on. These people have no remorse and zero ethics!!

I’d been a customer who always paid on time for over 3-1/2 years. This month, I paid my monthly bill online as I’d always done and for some reason the payment was never processed on their end. I’d received an email from PS on the 8th (two days after a payment would be considered late) informing me payment has not been received and a $26 late fee was being assessed. I immediately checked my bank account and after confirming that the payment indeed hadn’t been taken out, I contacted the local PS facility to look into it and that I felt I shouldn’t have to pay the late fee. The following day I was informed that they’d requested a waiver for the late fee but it was denied by corporate.
I asked for and was given the contact number of the regional manager, whom I’d called and left several messages over the next few days. When I did get a callback, he refused to waive the late fee. He even went as far as to tell me that I should have looked into why the payment was not taken from my checking account before it had gone past the point of being late. He certainly didn’t make me feel like a valued customer, even though they’d benefited from my rent increasing each year, from $90 to currently over $150. Evidently getting that $26 was more important. But in the end, Mr Regional Manager did me a huge favor. I paid my bill with the late fee as soon as I got off the phone with him, and the next morning gave PS my move out notice was moved into a space of the same size by that afternoon at a competitors facility for 2/3 the price.

The contract they provide will have you agree to their raising rates whenever they want (The above seems particularly exploitative of low-income people who aren't trained to read legalese and who are less likely to be able to afford the cost of transition from one storage space to another if they don't like their treatment). It is evidently standard practice to auction customers' property without ensuring receipt of notice. A couple cases in point: Was two weeks late on payment, and they sent me an email saying there was a late fee, which was fine and expected. However, it wasn't until I logged in to the payment section of the site that I found the small notice that they planned to auction my property. It would have been thousands of dollars of stuff in exchange for a belated $150 payment.
A short time after, a friend shared with me that she'd had a credit card changed and thought her Public Storage account was on autopay. Six months later she'd discovered that they'd auctioned her things. She had plenty to pay them with. It was just an error that they were apparently uninterested in correcting, i.e. with proper notice, she would have simply been able to provide them with the right card. So, it seems like SOP for this company. Customer service is poor. Avoid Public Storage.

Even if they immediately rent out the unit to someone else I would still have to pay the month. WTF!! This has to be illegal practice and I intend to be in touch with my lawyer to find out if a class action lawsuit is possible. This is unacceptable and in my view criminal.
I asked if since I was so close to the beginning of the month they would make an exception, especially as I was told they would prorate previously, they just kept repeating the same old "that is our policy" line. I mean come on any decent company would make an exception in certain cases like that wouldn't they? Overall, the Stacy Rd, McKinney TX facility is nice, close to my home, and has a helpful staff. The biggest problem with Public Storage is that it's a month-to-month rental facility - which gives them the right to raise rates, after you have your goods nicely tucked in. They were not upfront about this. Folks are better off negotiating a contract with other storage facilities. Such a shame, but that is life with large corporations. I'd rather have them be upfront that rates will be raised - but then again, the truth is elusive in our world. Go elsewhere, there are plenty of options.

The majority of the stuff I had in my truck is in storage and never got around to clearing the building out due to my current job. So I figured since I recently bought a camper for my upcoming vacation that a lot of the stuff in storage may be useful. Well there was a different lock and tag on the unit and the reason for it is because of the ONE LATE PAYMENT. "It was in my policy" and they're "not required to alert the customer about being late " and "it's up to the site manager to make the courtesy call"... NO text, no automated system, but hey you get a postcard in the mail whenever they increase the rates on your building.
If you put the poor girl on the phone repeating that "policy" line in front of a drive thru microphone I doubt you could tell the difference and the results of your requests would be the same.
