Disappointed about the unexpected rate increase to monthly bill. Convenience & location is ideal for local homeowners. This facility (Hopewell Road, Louisville, KY) was originally built & constructed by a local privately owned company and has since been bought out by Public Storage. You can certainly tell the difference in the way the two entities conduct business. I wish the original company stilled owned the property. They were focused more on the customer as opposed to the stock price/investor.

I was give an auction date for my storage unit # **, of 3-3-17. Because of a misplacement of funds they changed my auction date to 3-22-17. I was then told my auction was changed to 3-24-17. On March 16th I sent a text to 3 people asking for a loan so my storage would not go into auction without my paying it off. I then went in to the Irvine Public Storage Store at 1:45 pm and made a payment for $40.00, rent payment receipt # **, and the representative told me my auction was changed to 4-4-17. I wrote at the top of the receipt, Auction April 4th. I was so relieved. My hours were cut back at work and I was only getting a base but wasn't reaching commission. I took on another job to try to come up with the money to pay my bill, finishing work exhausted most days, trying to call the storage unit as much as I could.
After leaving the Irvine Public Storage Store I texted all my friends and relatives telling them they were extending my auction date to April 4th and that I did not need a loan. After working several days in a row I finally had a direct deposit of close to $400 dollars. The direct deposit didn't go through on Thursday, March 23rd like I had hoped. I waited all Friday morning, calling the bank every hour or half an hour until 9 am or so. I finally left the ATM and was called into work. Finally at 3 pm or so the direct deposit went through. I quickly took a break from work and went in to the Irvine public Storage Store to pay my bill in full. The representative looked up my account in the computer and told me that my storage unit had been auctioned off at 11 am that day. I was shocked and began calling managers and district managers leaving message after message, with no return calls.
I did talk to Brian. He said he would not do anything. Customer Service said they would call me in 24 to 48 hours, they never called. Several customer service representatives would not give their id numbers either. How do you get documented proof of who I spoke to? After the auction I was told that my only hope was to talk to the auctioneer. I told clerk after clerk that I was willing to borrow the money from my new employer to pay them for my personal belongings. I would even be willing to give them anything of value. I was promised a call, no one called me. Saturday March 25th I went over to the storage unit to stand in front on my storage unit so they would not take it. Angelia approached me about 11 am to say that I had to leave the storage facility or they would call the police. I left the facility, I did not want to be arrested.
I sat in my car and called all the managers and district managers, they did not answer or call me back. I then went into the store to plead with the clerk to have them tell the auctioneer I would give them $500 dollars or more for all my personal belongings back. I was told I would get a call from Angelia before 5 to tell me what the auctioneer said, no one called me. I want to sue Public Storage for giving me misinformation about my auction date, not returning my calls and for auctioning off all my personal belongings before I could make my payment. I want my personal belongings back.

This is the worst storage loansharking facility around. Stay away from them. Rates start off as affordable and goes up yearly. I leased a 5x10 unit for $141.00. Now recently they send me a veteran another increase for another jacked up price of $175.00. My clothes and items have not moved and I have been there after storing my belongings 2 times since. Please avoid Public Storage at 800 River St Hyde Park Mass. 02132. I have a certified mail into their corporate headquarters as a complaint. Once I receive a answer from them that is fair, we shall as vets of the VFW post shall picket this location or I will leave my clothes there until I get them out and either donate them. They should be renamed loanshark storage.

We got out the stuff delivered but delivery was very poor. Only one person came for the delivery. It was taking ages for him to get the stuffs moved into the apartment. We had move some stuffs to our apartment on our own. The only person came for delivery did not have sufficient tools to assemble tables and mattress bed stand. Also I had to pay 25 $ more at the time of delivery which is not mentioned in the bill at all. Few damaged items too. Too costly as well. Initial quote was 2300$ so that I won't move to other movers and packers. The day before the pickup and gave another estimate to 4000$ and at the time of pick up ended up with 4600$.

I rented out a storage unit at Public Storage in Aston PA. Me and my family's belongings were placed in there with no damage to anything. We are homeless so we had to get this unit. So every bit of our belongings are there. I never missed a payment and was never late. Back in October 2016 a hurricane came through and the heavy rain caved in the roof of the last three units in that row. Which happened to be my unit. I only got notified from going there and my unit neighbor told me to check my stuff. While going through our stuff some belongings did get damaged. So I went to the property manager to let her know that my stuff got damaged with black mold.
She informed me and my friends that she knew this was going to happen because she told the district manager Matt ** and his boss Seth that the roof should be fixed before anyone moving in. So she told me how to fill out the insurance information. By that time our stuff had to be moved but they didn't have any other units available then. One came available almost a week later. But I informed them that I couldn't afford to buy a truck to move my stuff because I'm on a budget since I'm homeless. So months went by. A couple of weeks before Christmas Matt ** said that he buy movers to move me into the new unit. Then I waited and haven't heard anything back from him or Seth until the middle of January that they weren't hiring movers and that I had to pay for a moldy storage unit and find a way to move my own belongings.
I have tried reaching out to different lawyer and public adjusters. And no one would help me knowing my stuff was moved into a unit knowing had a potential of being damaged if heavy rain occurred under the management knowledge. I spoke to them and they continuously said they have no recollection of the damaged unit now before my stuff went in. I recently spoke to Matt to try and get what isn't damaged out the unit. But I'm not sure if anything is worth saving and it's now almost April 2017 and the mold has been in there since October 2016. I'm worried that mold might be toxic now and dangerous for anyone to have anything in there. Can I anyone tell me what can be done help save anyone else's belongings.

I am renting with Public Storage in Ft Worth, Texas at 8400 Camp Bowie. I started off paying $80 for a 10x10. All the sudden, I'm paying $120. I'm also Military (National Guard). They told me since I was military, that I would not rack up late fees or "other" charges. Well, there was a couple times I was late and had to pay almost $300 for one month. I asked them about the military thing and sent my orders. They replied that that was only for active duty, which is not specified in the contract. At one point my lock was cut because of such lack of communication and irresponsible management. And of course my being late with my initial payment due to living out of state and being busy with work and military.
I go to Texas to put a new lock on my unit and **, the location manager told me I needed one of their locks. I told her I would be getting my stuff next week and this lock was going on my unit because I refuse to let them rip me off anymore. She argued with me for about 3 minutes and finally let me go. Fast forward to the next week, March 29th 2017. My nephews and I take a U-haul and a pickup to the location to pick up my belongings. We go in, so obviously the access code worked. As we are loading up the truck, I asked one of my nephews to take an unwanted chair to the dumpster on site. He did.
A few minutes later, Amy comes to where we were and told us we could not leave the chair there. I asked why there was a dumpster if we couldn't use it. She said it was private property for people who live on site. (Her tone of voice and demeanor were very rude.) I told her fine that we would grab it. She walked away talking under her breath.
We finished up and started to leave. We get to the gate, my nephew punches in the code and the gate does not open. He tries again... Nothing. He tried for a 3rd time and again, nothing. He looked at me with a confused look, so I get out of the U-haul and walk into the office. There was a man standing in there visiting with her. She looks at me and smiles real big and said "can I help you"? I said "Ummm ma'am, we can't get out". She said "right. Well that chair needs to go." I told her that my truck was full and we would come back and get it. She said it needed to go now. I told her to open the gate. She again stated that the chair needed to go. I raised my voice and told her I was going to call the police and tell them she was holding us against our will if she didn't open the gate. She told me not to yell at her. I finally screamed at her to "OPEN THE ** GATE". She finally did. She had went into the computer and denied my code so we could not leave.
As soon as we left, I called and filed a complaint. The lady I spoke with was nice, but told me I would be hearing from corporate. Later on that day, I received a call from Sara from corporate. I had spoke with her before about some other things. She said "I'm sorry you felt trapped"... I said "ma'am WE WERE TRAPPED." And she proceeded to tell me that we shouldn't have left until we got that chair. She kept talking and would not let me get a word in. 3 times I tried talking and she kept talking over me. I had her on speaker so my sister could hear. My sister finally had enough and hung my phone up on her.
With all the money I paid into them, I don't appreciate being held against my will. I don't appreciate the kind of business they do. I don't appreciate being treated like I was treated. I don't appreciate being taken advantage of. And I don't appreciate being gouged with prices that are beyond ridiculous. These people are crooks. I have contacted the police. I am not done getting the word out about these crooks. I am beyond disgusted to say the least.

This had to be the worse experience, customer service was the worse. I had put my checking account number in wrong and they charged me bank fees that the bank never charged them. I don't mind paying but all the charges they have you pay and make you think you are only getting charged a dollar. Well my son never put a lock on his unit and never moved in but got charged $36.00. Plus one month plus two bank fees. Instead of not losing a customer they rather make money on made up charges.

I like the convenience of Public Storage. I do however feel as if the pricing of storage units is very high. It's also very hard to change from unit to unit when you need a smaller/bigger unit. This then causes one to either change storage companies entirely or have more than one unit in different places at the same time. I understand they may not have the room to build on more storage units and that most of them are franchises but I would like to see them work together as sister companies in order to better help their customers.

I have rented units from this company twice. They bait you in with the $1 rent fee for a month, then a couple months later raise your rental fee. So, you don't really get a $1 fee because they get that money back from raising your rent. Also, many customers do business and pay their bills online and their website is not working half the time. It's really sad what's going on in America. These companies prey on the less fortunate to make themselves richer. I pray that you not harden your heart and allow God in to make the necessary changes.

Ok, so I have been a customer for over a year and a half. I went in to tell them I'm moving out but they still wanted the full month's rent even though my stuff wasn't going to be in there! Also they are never there. They're always on breaks making things a inconvenience to you! My overall opinion is find somewhere who appreciates your business. I was a loyal customer paying 250 a month. You would think they would try to keep a good relationship with you but they don't care so go anywhere else but PUBLIC STORAGE.

My family & I were moving but our new home wasn't ready so we rented from Public Storage on Farnsworth Ave in Aurora, & that was the worst mistake OF MY LIFE!!! They are con artists, liars, thieves & heartless cold people!! I was late on December 2016's rent & when I called at the end of Dec to make my payment & bring my account up to date they told me there was no need because they had already auctioned off my unit with no kind of notice (no call, no voicemail, no email & no written letter in the mail either) which had more than $35,000 worth of stuff in it & not to mention all 5 of my kids pics from birth til now, s.s. cards, birth certificates, baby books, & EVERYTHING FROM MY CHILDHOOD AS WELL!! I called and called, & sent emails as well with no one getting back to me when all I want returned to me are those priceless irreplaceable memories back!
Yesterday, much to my surprise, I get a letter from a collection agency saying that I need to pay! I disputed the collection and turned around & called Public Storage. They told me they only got $54 for my unit and that I would have to pay $499 to be removed from collections!! They are lying their scamming little ** off!! there is absolutely no way on God's green freaking earth that they only got $54 for a unit that had WELL OVER $35,000 worth of stuff in it!!
I'm not done with this by far and now even if they do decide to give me the purchaser 's info I still have no chance of getting ANYTHING back because I'm positive they have already thrown everything of value to me in the trash!!! One thing I do know is that if my kids' identities are stolen then Public Storage will pay the price!! I am a very disgruntled customer who will stop at nothing to get my memories back and to make sure I get the word out to anyone & everyone to stay the ** away from Public Storage & their extremely ** business!!

We rent a unit in Island Park, NY. It's a surprisingly quiet location considering the nearby train. My fiance has seizures, and her dad kicks us out of the house every single time she has one. So we figured it would be OK to start hanging out behind the storage unit building while she recovered. We're paying $100 to these people, after all, and it's not like we're living there. We'd just park for two or three hours every few days and watch a movie or read while my fiance huddled under a blanket and waited for the spasms and disorientation to pass.
We do this for over two months, and it doesn't appear to be a problem. In fact, when I first rented the unit, I specifically said we might be hanging out there, and the woman just chuckled. She didn't say anything about us not being allowed to do that. So you can imagine my surprise when one of the men came and knocked on our window and just laid into us for "You can't be sitting here for hours; you can't be sleeping here" and "This isn't your personal bathroom" and "We've talked to you before about leaving food trash in the trash." They hadn't, by the way. But when I told him no one talked to me about it, he just said, "Well, she said she did." And then went on to tell me that he would "give me the benefit of the doubt" about a pizza box I'd left because he "couldn't prove" it was me.
So yeah. They'll tolerate people storing fuel near my unit (I could smell it; it was really strong) and they'll tolerate, not one, but two homeless families living on the third floor. But my fiance and I get an incredibly hostile lecture for five minutes because we sat quietly and occasionally used the bathroom. I kept saying sorry and it wouldn't happen again, but he would not let us leave. And I mean that seriously. He was standing too close the car; I'd have hit him if I tried to pull out. So I had to just sit there while he ** at me for five minutes. That was a month ago now, and I've honestly been scared to go retrieve our stuff so we can move to a better facility. I'm worried they'll just straight up call the cops if they see us again.

We rent a unit in North Charleston on Dorchester road 29406. After paying late charges and making our account current, we get there to find out our lock had been cut. Oh, that's fine, but now we can't even move our things out without purchasing a lock. This policy makes no sense to me. We were speaking with a pleasant, slightly older woman in the house and she was trying to make us understand the process. The younger lady, a little heavy set, frizzy hair (in case you go here) gets off her phone call (business) and brings the attitude. "I'm not going to lose my job" as if anyone asked her to risk her life to allow us access to the storage we are paying for.
I'm hoping there is some type of deduction for days that your storage is paid but your denies entry to move out. Customer service in these places suck. Why be so defensive? I felt like if I would've said too much that I would have to fight the woman behind the counter and I wasn't in the mood today. That cut and dry, "I don't give a care" about your attitude in a service position is totally uncalled for and unprofessional. I myself have been a manager in the service industry for years so I practice what I preach. I'm upset I didn't get her name, but her job is too good for her. I plan to call and file a complaint as well.

I had to move out abruptly after 15 months of storage. This is specifically about the Public Storage at 3611 W Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, 90018. I truly hope this is not the way Public Storage normally does business as a whole. I do not like it when people drone on and on about bad experiences in reviews so I just want to give you the straight forward information and you can decide for yourself. I have posted pictures with captions to explain each.
On January 9, 2017, I went to my storage unit for the first time since September 2016 and discovered that my unit and about 5 to 6 others were broken into by a person that was living in one of the units at this location. The wire mesh they use on the tops of the units had been ripped away allowing the person to climb in and take whatever he wanted. This was told to me by **, the front desk clerk, and when I asked her why I was not notified, she said "we did not want to cause panic". ** is a nice girl and I am not writing to disparage her; however, them not notifying the tenants lead to me paying for a unit for 4 solid months that had been vandalized.
I contacted the district manager, asking for a refund from October through January, and he told me "you can't prove it happened in October". I was a bit stunned because even if it didn't happen in October when they admit many units were broken into, I would think they would have had some clue as to when it happened because they are supposed to perform security walks and check the tops of the units routinely (something else ** had said). He then said he would call me back, but did not. I then contacted the regional manager. I explained the situation to her, and told her that I wanted a refund from October through January, to which she gave me the runaround citing contractual agreements that she believed took all responsibility off of Public Storage. The most they offered was to give me a refund for January in return for me signing a release not to take them to court. It was a terrible offer to which I declined.
This whole situation occurred due to negligence allowing someone to live in a unit and be locked in at night with freedom to roam and break in to any unit they liked. Public Storage has cut feeds to most of the cameras with vantage points that view any of the units at this location, which you can see on a flat screen in the office, they have cut the security sensors on all the doors of the units, and do not fulfill any obligation to do minimal checks to be aware of break ins.
Even after I became aware of the break in, it was 2 solid weeks and me having to reach the regional manager before they "repaired" the top of my unit even though ** said they would reach me to have it done when I asked on January 9th. They didn't secure the unit at all, and it was still pretty much open after they did their "work" on it. Like I said, I have told you the facts. This place doesn't want anyone to know that this happened for obvious reasons. I would have also reviewed it with about 4 stars had I not been aware of this secret they are keeping. I, unfortunately, had to move my things out quickly after 15 months of storage with Public Storage.

Awful service, rude associates. No idea about the services they offer. I went to the Public Storage on Australian Ave in West Palm Beach to rent a Storage space. The two ladies who were sitting behind the counter doing nothing rudely told me I needed an appointment to rent a storage space. I was like "you're kidding right". They both respond no and again stated I needed an appointment, which I later found out was a complete lie. Well needless to say, I called them out on their lie and demanded to rent a space. At that time they did rent me the space I needed. But to keep up with the rudeness, the space she rented me was all the way towards the back of the property and I was not offer to be taken in the complimentary golf cart. I have two units at two separate Public Storage facilities near me. And oh, for those of you reading -- Public Storage can't MAKE you buy their insurance, nor is it legal for them to force you to buy it, intimidate you to buy it, or anything else they try. Be polite, but firm and even ask them to call their district manager right there. They might, or might not, but it's just a scam to get more money out of you. If you read the form, it says ELECTIVE all through it. Just write the word DECLINED in big letters diagonally across the form and sign it. And always bring your own locks. I don't trust their box of locks. They charge $25 per lock; you can buy the same type lock at Home Depot, Lowe's for $15; Ace Hardware charges a little more. They can't make you buy their locks either. If they want to see it, tell them it's in the car or better yet, you'll bring it when you put items in before they close. I believe they have a master key to all of their locks.
One place I went in handed them a check for November 2016 payment, they gave a receipt. I had put 2 locks on that unit; one like theirs and another that wasn't even securing anything. As of 16 November, they had cut both of my locks off threatening lien auction/sale. I get restricting access to my unit, but not cutting the locks off. This has been going on since January 18, 2017 when I finally made a formal complaint to my state Attorney's General's office for that office's refusal to send me an itemized list of all payments and charges I asked for twice; the check has not cleared -- I believe they shredded it, and unfortunately I'm still looking for that lost receipt. The regional manager is useless. I have paid all the fees and am actually paid up on that unit until mid March 2017 -- but they still have their locks on a paid unit for over 30 days now. That is illegal and wrongful action.
I anticipate finding that receipt soon and will also write a letter to their corporate office providing all evidence and pictures I've taken each Saturday proving I'm still locked out of my unit. While I wait on the reply and next action step from the attorney general's office, I will institute my legal & rightful own steps. I've even caught one of their employee's spying on me while I was sorting the other unit. Really. The end result -- they will be reimbursing me $50 for the two locks they illegally cut off + all penalties + any other fee deem appropriate. Time to go over and take my Saturday picture of my unit -- paid in advance for 2+ months that they have denied me access to for over 1 month now.

NEVER USE THIS COMPANY - no matter how much advertising crap they do to make themselves look reputable. I've had other storage companies for years with never a problem and never a raise in rent. These people NEVER TELL YOU at contract signing that it's even a possibility that you might experience a rental increase. My rent was increased 30% after not even 6 months. No notice, no email, no phone call. They said they "mailed a letter" but who on earth checks snail mail??? Furthermore, it probably looked like junk mail because I never got it. Had I been informed at contract signing, I would have selected another storage facility - I would not risk a raised rent knowing I was moving 3K miles away.
And when they do raise the rent, you are held hostage because now you have to hire a mover to move your things -- and most people can't afford that. I know I am now left scrambling. I happen to be 3000 miles away from my stuff -- so I'm sick over this. I'm contacting a lawyer. This is UNCONSCIONABLE and UNSAVORY business practices. They said that corporate ONLY SENDS OUT LETTERS TO NOTIFY TENANT AT ADDRESS ON FILE. NO emails. Even though they have your emails to send you bills! On top of that, since I paid on the 8th of January, AND they place a late fee on the increase... the late fee is 57.00! So, I have to pay 87.00!
When you call the office, they will always put everything on "corporate." No sympathy, no customer service. HELL. RUN and get your stuff OUT! PLEASE do not go there. They make you buy their own locks that stink. Can't use your own! Then, they charge for insurance. (even though your homeowners insurance might already cover it. But you have to give them a notice to show them. Until then, THEY will be happy to take your money.) So many BS fees and the facility? Never clean. No working carts. I received a notice only after 6 months of renting my unit which resulted in a $16 increase or about 12%. I reached out to every level within the company and it took me 5 weeks to finally get a callback with not much support or explanation. At the executive level they said they could not honor my original rate for another 6 months and at an executive level they said they could not do anything. It is more like they will not do anything.
The problem I have with this whole situation is contained within the rental agreement. It is vague and in Public Storage's favor. It states customer will receive a notice 1 month prior to any increase, which we did get, but here is the problem: It does not say when it will happen again, does not clearly state what my first increase might be or next even the subsequent increases will be and finally they said it wont happen again for another year but when I asked to get that in writing they said they would not. It is a super shady company and has solely written the contract to be vague in order to take advantage of everyone who rents from them. So when you see any specials that are posted, it is false and you can count on them making up for the discount within the first year of your agreement.

SCAM. SCAM. SCAM. My experience seems to be like everybody else's. "Public Storage" has a nice, homey, comfortable sound to it. You are drawn in by the big name you see everywhere. That makes you think "these guys have a corporate office that will deal with anything the local offices won't". WRONG. The first unit I lost was 100% my fault. I was at a bad point in life, and the unit was halfway across the country. There was nothing I could do. However my mistake was renting a second unit from these guys. My second unit was sold without my knowledge! I paid the same way every month, and for some reason, this last month, they decided they wanted to handle things a bit differently. After the unit was sold, I contacted the manager who said she would reach out to the man who bought it (he frequently buys units there) and she would give him my contact information back.
All I wanted was my family's birth certificates and my marriage license! Easy enough right? WRONG. She played this "oh I'm still trying", "Oh he said he would give you a call", "Oh I never spoke with him" bull crap game until finally she just decided to ignore all my calls. I reached out to the district manager, no return call. I toyed with the customer service line for DAYS and just got tossed around from person to person, none of whom were really going to help me. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. Not only do they do this to people every day, but they increase their rates over 20% every 6 months it seems! What a joke. Rent a storage unit from a small, family owned storage facility instead. These guys are racking up bad reviews all over the country.

I've been a customer renting a storage unit from public storage for about 7 years at the San Jose California 3900 vista park and even for 4 more year before when it was called Shurgard. Public storage has been buying up all the storage unit facilities everywhere. So I've been at this location for 11 years. My storage needs have change and my units would get bigger then smaller and it kept the cost down since they raise the rent every 6 months. Every time I moved units I'd have to go through their renting process and go over their rules so I know the rules pretty good and I would have to explain why and what I'm using the unit for and every time I've said the same thing. I show up in the morning, grab the materials and tools I need and drop them off in the evening and sometimes I'll need to repair something for my job. They always have said that that's not a problem as long as I was out by 9:00 pm.
Well I guess the management from corporate walked by my unit one evening as I was fixing something I needed on the job the next day as I've done many times before. The next day I get a 3 day eviction notice because my unit is set up like a shop and no it's not my truck is but my unit is not. My issue is neither of these managers even looked in my unit which they were more than welcome to do. It was a false accusation plus I've been doing this same thing for 4 years longer than they owned it. Not to mention that I got this notice on the day before New Year's Eve.
Then at the same time they change their hours and you had to be out of there by 6:00 pm. So after a couple of phone calls they gave me until the 10th but I don't get off work until 4:30 pm. How is this legal? The only thing I can think of why they're doing this is they want to auction off my unit. I can believe that they can give no warning just get out. This district manager Ryan ** has no soul. I have never missed nor have I made a late payment ever. That's loyalty for you. If you can find another storage facility public storage will stab you in the back. Please don't use this company. They're bad news. Just read all the reviews.

If you can use a local company or any other alternative, I strongly advise it. Public Storage is high priced with late fees that hit on the 31st which can be 30% of the monthly bill, exorbitant and unconscionable. If you have not paid by the 10th you'll be denied access to your unit until you pay the entire month, even if you want to move out and pay a prorated amount. It is predatory capitalism at its very worst and should be avoided.

Worst company & customer service ever. All they do is take your money and will still block you from your own items even after you've paid. I am in Atlanta. I am paying $280.00 a month and had water damage & mold in my unit because the PS units are old and they leak. They gave me no customer service to resolve the issue. It took them 3 weeks to respond back to my complaint. They are ready to cut your locks and sell your stuff after the 20th but it takes weeks for them to respond to customers if at all. (Meanwhile they are still calling you to make payments).
They charge you late fees if you pay past the 1st but you cannot access your items even if you pay late fees. (Late fees don't grant you any extended time.) I've had my very expensive items in there for 4 years. They treat you like a guy off the street instead of a 4 year paying customer. I could write a freaking book about how ** they are as a whole but I don't have time. Go with PODS or another company. I was warned about Public Storage. But did not think I'd be screwed over to this magnitude. I had been renting from this location since September 2016 till today, December 10th, 2016. I came the other day while the district manager was there. All of a sudden he comes to me with this made up story that it seems like I'd been living in their storage unit. And that they actually took it upon themselves to LOOK INSIDE MY STORAGE UNIT and draw these whacked out conclusions. (Don't flatter yourselves guys, your elevators smell like urine, and you have obvious drug addicts working for you, such as your cashier, Jean.. LOL) Yes, me living in a 5 x 10 storage unit, with no access to the building after 9pm and I work till 11. That totally makes sense.
Thursday, December 8th, I was told I have 48 hours to get my things out of my storage, and that I was going to have an overlock put on the unit and would only be able to access it if the staff was there to open the door for me. Not only that but they didn't promise me a refund after I paid $123.00 just days beforehand for the month of December. So basically I'm being conned out of over 100 dollars, and the safety of my belongings is currently in question. Do not do business with Public Storage, especially this location which is right next to the entrance to Port Everglades. Today I'm happy to say I'm ridding myself of these criminal thieves, and am moving my business to CubeSmart, who has cheaper rates and more secure facilities and better customer service.

I got a call from Public Storage that a person in the unit adjacent to mine had damaged the drywall dividing the storage spaces and that the company needed me to move some of my stuff so they could repair the wall. Upon arriving at the location, I discovered that the drywall had been intentionally broken down. The drywall had a 5 ft by 5 ft hole in it and 2 nice chairs and a bookshelf had been stolen.
Also, 90% of the boxes had been shredded open and the contents of the boxes were strewn throughout my unit and the adjacent unit. Public Storage said they auctioned off the property that was in the other person's unit, which may have been MY property since the person stole it from my unit. The company compensated me with a 10% discount on a new unit. The walls are drywall. I thought originally that Public Storage units were better protected, like maybe there was brick between the units. NOPE. Just flimsy drywall. It would be just as safe for me to store my property on my front lawn!

I rented a storage unit from Public Storage for $206 per month. I was out of State. I spent $800 moving my things into the unit. 6 months later they raised the rent to $249. 6 months later it was $291. I saw nothing on my contract indicating 40% increases every 6 months. I called and asked why they advertise at $206 and increased my rates so much. The only way I could have the current rate was to hire a company and move out for 48 hours giving them 30 days' notice as well as reserving 30 days in advance. Publish this to all consumers. The corporate office stated rental rates can increase at any time for any amount. This is clearly a violation of antitrust laws. Bait and switch. I am moving to a new unit with another company indoor climate controlled for $179 per month.
However it will cost over $1,000 move. I was moving and went to the first company online. Please ensure other women are not abused by this company. My increase was going to be another $50.00 in January making the $206 rental $341. I checked all the companies prior to hiring movers and found the average rental is 1 x annually at 7%. Everyone should be made fully aware of 40% rate increase every 6 months. I also noted reviews online stating the company continued to auto debit them after 30 days vacating notice. He then said what did not sell I could return and collect and that if the auction went well my balance would be less or paid off. I had to contact customer service several times in order to find out how the auction went. My balance was higher than before the unit was auctioned off. I only took non-replaceable things with me. I left these awful people a flat screen tv, a wii, a playstation, a brand new vintage record player, 2 ikea dressers, a couch, artwork, a brand new crockpot, a brand new sewing machine, two crystal lamps, a bed and 2 night stands, 2 shag rugs, a standing mirror and much more.
Do you honestly expect me to believe you didn't make any money off of all those items? I have also tried reaching out to the property management non-stop over the weekend and today and no one will answer the phone. When they have wanted money from me they have called me and harassed me non-stop. For a multi-million dollar company this is the poorest customer service I have ever had anywhere. Why wasn't I told the whole unit would be auctioned off and not piece by piece? Why was I lead to believe that I could return for anything left? DO NOT trust these crooks with your valuables. I have been a loyal customer to Public Storage. I am keeping my stuff in one of their storage units for the year (at least) while I travel - I have never made a late payment and have always paid in full. I recently saw that my bill had increased by $14/month. When I called to speak to the property manager, she said that I had probably been sent a postcard at some point that this would happen. When I asked where I could find this in the contract, she said this was not in the contract, nor could she identify a rhyme or reason to when/if they would increase the rate again, but she guessed it would be every 6 months or so.
I was never notified of a potential for a rate increase, and was in fact told that I would pay $140/month for the year. I obviously am unable to remove my stuff from the unit, or to switch to another company until I return to the area. When I tried to call customer service, there were no options to speak to a representative from the corporate office and I was told by the property manager that there were no other options.

Contacting the local District Manager Phil **, Senior District Manager Abdul ** as well as reaching out to the Corporate office which did nothing more than refer me back to the local level. This organization has unscrupulous unit owners and sales associates that are untruthful and scam renters. A company that pays its CEO $7.5M per year. They condone and embrace policies that permit the company to steal money from their renters. It's sad that they have to resort to unfair and deceptive practices such as this.
Public Storage has so many units and so many properties, grabbing $100+ from every one of those units is more than enough to enrich themselves, but instead they run a highly competitive sales game with districts and regions, and focus solely on the bottom line, which unfortunately, gives them the peace of mind to unjustly screw people. Pete, Phil and Abdul I gave you every opportunity to make this right before writing this. Next is the Consumer Affairs division, the Better Business Bureau and every review site that I can submit this to. I knew was behind on my payments, but I also knew I had until the 28th or 29th of the month before the auction. I have been paying on the storage unit for 2 years and 4 months. I was told by the Onsite Manager that the auctions are on the 28th or 29th of the month. In fact, I reviewed my payment history online and found that I had made a payment on the 26th in a prior month. I didn't fall behind on my payments a lot, but it happened, just like life happens!
I've had several conversations with the onsite manager regarding the auction of my property. I attempted to recover my personal items... pictures, documents, the art projects my children made for me in elementary school and the like. BUT NO... The skilled VULTURE/PREDATOR brought two (2) Trucks to the Auction. One Truck for my valuables and One Truck for my personal items...a.k.a trash!!! I attempted to find out where this VULTURE took the "trash", as I am more than willing to pick through the garbage to recover even ONE (1) personal item. But no... I have yet to find that out. I'm attempting to find out if this vulture has a Resale Shop or just SELLS my valuable items at Yet another AUCTION.
I cannot get contact information for this person because Public Storage has an agreement not to give out THEIR information. That is troubling. WHY was my full name posted on the Public Storage Website Listing the Contents of my Storage Unit?? It's okay to publish my full name for the ENTIRE World to see but I am NOT ABLE to KNOW who took possession of my personal belongings?? I DO NOT BELIEVE my storage unit should have gone up for auction on the 26th. I Say this because I went online to find some information about the October 26th Auction... I didn't find anything for that Auction...BUT What I Did Find... The auction for October 28, 2016. The DISCOVERY of the Auction posted for the 28th CONFIRMED to me that I am correct in stating the Onsite Manager on several occasions confirmed the auctions are on the 28th or 29th of the Month.

That first load was left in a pickup truck overnight, got rummaged through, & stuff stolen, and then an early morning downpour destroyed quite a few things. Never received any compensation whatsoever.
Fast forward to today, we had to pay our past due balance by noon. I called all morning, left 4 or 5 voice mails, no return calls. My account online wouldn't take a payment. I fell behind my storage rent by 6 weeks and Public Storage in Rancho Mirage, CA sold my unit to a predator auction buyer. My entire family's life was in the unit. EVERYTHING! Every document, picture, clothing, identity, birth certificates, etc. All we have left are enough clothes that we could fit in our car. Unfortunately, I suffered a financial crisis and lost my income and home. Everything went into Public Storage in April of 2016 for only what we considered to be about 1-2 months because I found work and couldn't afford to pay the exorbitant unit rent of $280.00 per month for very long. I moved into storage on a $1.00 first month rent special, plus fees and that was a pretty good deal. Unfortunately, I lost my new job because I fell behind on an old CA traffic ticket payment schedule and the county suspended my license (I was a driver).
I tried to explain my hardship to PS but they are very unhelpful and only wanted to threaten me with sale of my belongings. Bottom line is this: My balance at the time they sold everything in Aug. 2016, was less than two months full storage rent. I asked them to wait because I thought I could borrow money from a friend. In the meantime, my phone got turned off and they couldn't call me...even though I warned them ahead of time and told them to communicate with me via email, since I had access to internet at a friend's place where I am staying. I gave them another friend's phone number so they could communicate with him - since he was helping with payments anyhow.
They sold virtually everything I own...from records to clothing to everything. They called my friend on a Tuesday, warning that they were intending to auction the unit's contents to buyers on a Tuesday. The following Thursday (2 days later), I called them from a borrowed phone and they told me everything had been sold. They rudely told me that they had done everything they could - a district manager, who only knew one side of the story told me that they had 'exhausted every avenue' to help me. This is just a lie. I believe the company is too large and too uncaring and irresponsible to care about their customers.
So, registered firearms and tons of ammo, my deceased wife's wedding rings, all of our family heirlooms, collections, pictures...everything - was sold. A four bedroom home full of an entire family's belongings - a full generation of belongings are gone! I estimate...including collectibles and net worth of the belongings which included my recently deceased Mom's estate were in that unit. To replace the replaceable merchandise in the unit is approximately $100,000. All of the other stuff is priceless. So, anyone reading this can understand what a tragedy this is. All for a rent balance of $600.00 including late fees. It all adds up to about 6 weeks in storage fees. I am 61 years old and cannot recover from this devastating event. I have nowhere to turn. PLEASE BEWARE OF PUBLIC STORAGE!

In April 2016 my moving company moved all my household belongings into it other than what I would need for a few months while staying with relatives since I relocated to a new city. Before putting ANYTHING into it, we lined the floor with plastic, back to front, and side to side. I looked at their insurance policy and talked to my insurance agent, and my renter's insurance covered everything that their policy did and then some.
When I got own home in September of 2016 and began getting things out of my unit, I noticed that every time I went into my unit, there were orange paint chips falling onto everything from the door. I brought this to the manager's attention, and she stated that they sent out a letter about repainting and recommended everyone go and cover their stuff with plastic. When I asked when this letter was sent, of course it was right before I got the unit, and I was NOT NOTIFIED when I signed the lease about the upcoming paint job. I also noticed that there were 'June Bugs' in various totes and boxes. You would think it would be a sealed building??
As I started working my way towards the back of the storage unit, I noticed a musty smell. On the bottom of some of the items there was some mold that was easily cleaned up. Once I got to the back two feet however, you could see that the entire 1st layer of cement blocks was wet. All my furniture was moldy, black mold, some stuff had to get thrown already. I contacted my insurance company and they said that in the state of MN there is no policy available to protect you from losses because of mold like this.
I have Oak TV Trays that were a wedding present to myself and now deceased husband, my dining room table (center leg), a safety gate for stairs, 2 twin mattresses for my daughter's bed, white wooden shelving for her room, etc, completely covered in mold. Even some black mold. Check out the pictures: Love the wet walls? Even the white mold spores on the black plastic??

At first, the clerk was on my side, then he changed his story AFTER their Supporter called me and told me to get a lawyer and don't call back. You just can't be nice to these con-artists. DO NOT use this service. Public Storage failed the BBB standards, with an "F" rating, and they raise your rent and change insurance policies so you can't really use it. Another scam. They sold my things AS SOON as a law came out stating they can sell stuff after 30 days. I've paid them for 3 years, and they knew I was moving out, stating my stuff was trash. Yet, from resources, they collected a few hundred off my stuff they auctioned. Stay away from all public storages. They won't even stay in the office to collect payment, yet charge a late fee afterwards!

A ** female named Emily at this location called 911 from her cell phone on me as a new customer of Public Storage in the Spring of 2016. I inquired about renting a larger storage unit and when I told her she underestimated the size of the storage unit I needed after I told her specifically what I owned she became defensive. When I walked into the store, the girl lied to my face and said she had never seen me a day in her life when she was the one who initially handled my paperwork the previous week. Let me make it clear, I did not have an attitude or yell at her. I told her to calm down and just check and see if she had a larger unit for me to rent as she raised her voice and began pointing her finger at me.
I was moving within a week and the security cameras behind the counter only saw my face and the back of her head. Instead of calming down she told me to leave the location and that she was going to call the cops on me because she said I was being disrespectful. Well I didn't leave and I talked to the cops in the rain on the property. She kept my paperwork, and gave out my pass code.
I had to contact the Alexandria Police Department so I could return to the facility to pick up my paperwork. While I was waiting the employee either took a picture or video of me and my car as I was waiting to pick up my paperwork. I contacted the district manager with the last name of ** and he never returned my call. Needless to say, I do not recommend Public Storage.

I rented a storage unit from the one on North Lamb Blvd in Las Vegas. When I reserved the unit by the central processing reservationist they told me the area was secured and they had cameras... Less than a month after renting the unit it was broken into and items stolen. I then learned that they had only 1 working camera which was useless as it only recorded people coming in and going out the main gate. I then re-secured the unit to only have it broken into a second time so that is twice in less than two months. This time they cleaned me out completely. They left nothing in the unit. When I reported this not only the ** fabulous so call manager acted like she didn't give a (Bleeeep)... they were very unhelpful when working with the police to retrieve my items. I have rented units from different companies all over the country because I move a lot. This is my first and last time I will ever use them again.

4 stars for the property. 1 star the experience. I have been a tenant of Public Storage for the past 3yrs or since they took over the property. Even before they took over I have already paid my bill on the last day of the month. After the Public Storage take over they started doing renovations on the property (Painted the building Orange and Tan - office changes including gate code changes) the property was actually nice well kept property before hand.
Well their paint crew came in sprayed the building and of course the paint went in the garage door crevices interior and got overspray on my Z06 Corvette and Custom Harley Motorcycle. When I found out and made a complaint to the office they offered me a discount on my next month's rent. Ended up settling for a month free rent. One neither bike or car has insurance at them and I honestly just didn't have it to fight it. I did get the car cleaned but the bike never has been right since. Sold it!
The previous owner and Public Storage both charge a late fee. PS fee is much more 20 percent of rental fee and I have never really complained about that considering I know I am late... Though one time they called to tell me my unit was in auction status and the auction was on that current day I needed to take action immediately. Luckily I was in town so all was settled. Till I found my lock had been cut and my stuff inside had been moved around and couple things damaged. I made a complaint about the damages and showed the damages to the onsite office staff that day. They informed the mgr but she didn't have time to talk about it or deal with it. Just wanted to avoid the issue. Never got settled.
Today I login to pay my bill and find why rent has increased again. Made a call to customer service and they said it was not in their control notice has been sent out... Like all other notices they say they send never received. The office staff, Property mgr are nothing but a face to lease a unit can never do anything. I paid the bill as I don't want to have my unit go in auction status and I am just gonna move. This review is to help others that are thinking long term rental like I am.
The same property the local Public Storage District Mgr ran a lot of the tenants that had been at the facility away. Most are well respected businesses. They never had any issues and were very courteous and clean about their units. The District Mgr always avoided my calls when I ask for the insurance company for the painter that got over spray on my car and bike. Just bad business. I would have moved already but I just didn't have time. Things are better now and now I do. Thanks for reading and God bless.

August 28, 2016 - Sunday. We have been renting from this Public Storage on John Young Parkway for over 3 years, since January 2013. We rented a Climate Controlled Unit #** (10'x10') and #** (10'x30') (Across from each other.) We recently purchased a new house and moved out of Unit ** with NO ISSUES. When we started to move out of #**, there was FECES AND URINE and WHITE HAIR everywhere!!! It was DISGUSTING! It was ALL OVER our Boxes, Blankets, Furniture, Mattresses, Boxsprings, Clothing, Sofas, etc. I have over 50 photos to share. Bugs were crawling out of sealed boxes too!
We notified Public Storage at 800-507-9508 from their website and all you get are prompts, NOT a live person... So I went to their "contact us" section on the website and emailed them. I got a response from Jahaira ** - Manager. She called me on Monday August 22, 2016 at 4:00pm. I told her the WHOLE story and she asked me if I had any food in my unit? I told her "NO". What idiot would store food in a storage unit? Anyway I asked her for her email because I wanted her to SEE the photos that I took so I emailed her on Monday and NEVER heard back from her.
Tuesday went by... Wednesday went by... And then Thursday came and I called her and left a message at 1:40pm August 25, 2016. She NEVER called me back. I told her "Ok I will be contacting Channel 9 News and contacting an Attorney" (in my voicemail to her). So I went to the website again and selected "contact us" again and wrote a more detailed message. Now Jahaira's boss, Laurie ** 407-657-6005 ext. ** called me back. I told HER the whole story (again). Laurie told me that she has NEVER had a complaint of this happening (which I find very hard to believe)... And she stated that since I did not purchase Public Storage's Insurance the units are rented "at your own risk".
Actually EVERYBODY I spoke to at Public Storage: Jorge and Souhay at the Front Desk, Jahaira (Manager) and Laurie (Manager's Boss) ALL told me they have NEVER had a complaint like this?!?! I was extremely upset stating that we pay $420 a month to rent 2 storage units (which is another issue paying THAT MUCH MONEY, only to have our personal belongings damaged???). So basically there is NOTHING that Public Storage can do. So you are telling me if this has NEVER happened before and I am SHOWING you ALL THE PHOTOS that you are NOT willing to help us?
I would have bent over backwards to help the customer because obviously something was wrong with THAT UNIT!!! Then when we finally moved everything out, and poop was falling off of everything (I'm not lying). It was so gross. There was what looked like a NEST in the corner. The Movers actually said "That is a NEST and something was living in here". OMG WHAT??? My husband and I are SO UPSET over this... And what bothers us the most is that our 10'x10' unit was fine. NO ISSUES. So I was hoping that Public Storage would work with us KNOWING that there was an issue with this OTHER unit. But they did NOT offer any help or assistance. I was told that unfortunately people DO put food in their storage units and there is NO WAY for the Facility to check what was in the units. So if my neighbors have FOOD in THEIR units then I HAVE TO SUFFER????
Then when we vacated the unit, I called the front desk at 11:19am from INSIDE THE UNIT to give them a heads up that we were finished and it was cleaned out. Nobody answered the phone so I left a message. When I went to the front desk I told Jorge that I just called and he said "We were busy with a customer." They were 2 people working up front, neither of them could have picked up the phone??? Anyway as I was checking out waiting for my vacant slip, Jorge had deactivated my account BEFORE my husband and the Movers drove through the gate! I thought that was terrible. Jorge could have waited another minute. My husband was right outside the front office, you could literally look to the left and SEE that he and the big moving truck was just sitting there trying to get out. My husband was entering the code over and over to get out... Just seemed very rude to me.
Anyway, we do NOT recommend this facility AT ALL!!!! THE PROOF IS IN MY PHOTOS!!!! We ended up throwing out our Queen and King Boxspring, Memory Foam Queen Mattress Topper, Blankets, Towels, Clothing, 8x10 Area Rug (that was loaded with urine!). Our furniture had to be scrubbed, our sofas and mattresses now have to be steam cleaned (hoping that works)... NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS!!!

The gate has been broken in the up position for over 2 weeks and I called the guy in charge of the Stillwater, MN facility and he said he knows it's broken but the people that fix it are backlogged. You would think after the storage facility was broken into and thousands of dollars worth of people's personal property was stolen that their first priority would be to get the gate fixed from whoever was available!!

I have been with them since Sept. 2015 and have made my payments on time except for one in Jan. 2016. I hit financial hardship and got a fee waiver because I was late that month. Again in August 2016 I am hitting financial hardship but they do not give any extensions, the fee waiver is a one-time deal. So my only option is to pay the monthly fee on top of a late fee after I talk to customer service and the district manager letting them know I'm having financial issues. I find that to be very wrong on so many levels because majority of people who rent storages more than likely lost their place to live and going through things period. They just want the money and can really care less about their customers. DO NOT RENT WITH PUBLIC STORAGE!!!

Public Storage ruined me and my kid's life. I went thru a very bad domestic situation where I lost my child (death) and was forced to put all my belongings in storage in 7/15 and go into a safe haven with and my children (ages 9, 10, and 7 months). In October 2015 I went to retrieve some winter stuff from the unit for me and my kids. When I went into my unit bumpy surprise I seen that it was mice feces all over my stuff, shredded papers, and the smell of a dead mouse. I contacted the general manager and site manager and was treated so rude and they acted as if they didn't care at all. I left several complaints that fell on deaf ears which was never resolved. At this point me and my 9 & 10 year old went to clean the unit and even found baby mice that had been living in the unit.
I went and spoke with the business owners next door and was told that they have a real bad mice infestation that comes from public storage but nothing is being done. I was told by an employee that mice traps were supposed to be in every unit before I moved in however it was never none put in my unit. In 4/2016 I moved into a house and had planned on retrieving our things from storage. Two days after moving in I found out I was a victim of fraud and the house I was renting did not belong to the landlord. I contacted the DA office and police to file a complaint and was told that this individual was being watched by the police and feds for committing housing fraud which she was just released out of prison the year prior for the same crimes and it was a current investigation going on.
At this point me and my children became homeless smh. I was told to contact PA victim services and that relocation expenses, storage, and my stolen cash would be replaced. I was unable to pay for the storage and the DA and victim compensation contacted Public Storage several times to let them know that my unit would get paid for, however no return call was given. I was notified that my unit would be going into auction on 6/21. I also along with the DA and victim advocate reached out to them several times but no calls were returned. Finally on 6/20 the victim people got in touch with the district manager DAVE who was very nasty and told her that there was nothing they could do and the auction would still go on. Unable to pay me and my children's things were auctioned for 600 in rent (April, May, and June) and 400 in late fees. I became so distraught due to my kids being so upset I attempted suicide at the end of my rope.
At this point family members contacted my parents who didn't have a clue as to what was taken place because I had been trying to hide the domestic situation from them. After learning my stuff was in storage going into auction my mom agreed to pay it. We called up to the site and was told that the only way the auction wouldn't go on is if someone came and paid it in person which was impossible smh. They made it difficult on purpose it seemed. While in the hospital my sister looked up my account and seen that only 100 dollars was credited to my account for over 20k in clothes, furniture, jewelry. EVERYTHING WE OWNED!
When my sister questioned the general manager DAN as to why this was done and why only a credit of 100 was received and she asked for a itemized unit sheet for my belongings that was sold at the auction and the buyers info or to give the buyer her info to retrieve my deceased child's memorabilia and important papers and pictures of my kids, she was threatened by the district manager that he was turning over this account to their legal team. My sister then received a call from someone who works at Public Storage who felt really bad about the situation and the events that took place since I opened the unit told her that two staff had stolen stuff out of my unit before the auction and that the target was my kids 2 ATVs priced at 1500 a piece and a 70 inch flat screen that were all visible in plain sight of very expensive furniture.
I just feel like this was a very evil and cruel thing to do considering the circumstances not to mention the city was paying for the bill due. This is theft by deception and I see now that they wanted the belongings in my unit so they didn't care about the unit getting paid for because they wanted my children's things who are now distraught smh. Please help. I want to expose them to every outlet possible for what they have done???

I have a storage unit at the 6435 Ventura Blvd location in Ventura, CA, indoors on the 2nd floor. I purchased one of the round padlocks required at the facility. I kept one key and gave the second to my cousin along with the access info, should he want to get in. He still has his access info card and key. I was informed by email that the lock had been improperly installed and was discovered by a regular sweep of the units. After calling them, I also learned that the facility had been accessed by someone using my access code. Our conversation was cutoff twice and I was told they were having internet problems (they have an IP phone, so the phone dies with the internet). He said he secured the lock and they also changed the passcode. Since I live in Portland, I was not able to check the unit until several months later, when the burglary was discovered.
All the valuables had been stolen (my fault for putting them in there, I suppose), but we couldn't figure out 1) why they chose my unit; 2) how they got the access code; and 3) how they got past the lock. I believe that the access code was stolen by a hacker, probably with the info for all the units in the facility, if not in the entire corporation (could this be related to the internet outages they had experienced?). In my lengthy discussion with the woman at the front office that day, I was given a log of all the times my access code was used. This could be how my unit was targeted: units that have not been accessed for a long period of time. These would be less likely to be discovered quickly. And from what I've seen on YouTube, the locks are a joke: either they can be picked very easily, or there is apparently a master key 'out there'.
The only reason it was found so quickly is that the thieves apparently were rushed and put the lock on wrong when they left (the second time! ), otherwise I might still not know the unit was broken into. The woman at the front desk also showed me a screen on her computer displaying all of the units in the facility that had missing or improperly installed locks - well over 100. Any of which might be the results of a burglary. Or, all the remaining units could also be victims with the lock put on correctly, just waiting to be discovered. I asked if they had checked the video tape of the front gate at the time of the discovery, but was told they only do that if there is a police report. They also only keep the tapes for 30 days, so any hope of identifying the thieves is lost. Whether or not the images from the tapes are usable is another matter.
I offered some suggestions (1 - send an email to the unit owner whenever the access code is used; 2 - when any impropriety is found, check the video tape immediately, based on the access log for the affected unit; don't wait for a police report) but these seemed to be too onerous for her to consider, or even pass up the line. Had I gotten the email alert at the first access, I could have called the facility and had them investigate. My possessions might still be intact. It's unfortunate they have so little motivation or concern for their customers. A quick internet search showed me how poorly regarded Public Storage is, and how I would have done well to avoid them. Lesson learned.

This was my second time renting with Public Storage at 5801 Wilson, 63110. The first time around everything went well but this time around it was terrible. I started renting with them in August 2015. I had a few issues but nothing major. In June 2016 I decided to downsize from a non-climate controlled unit on the 1st floor (**) to a climate controlled unit located on the 3rd floor (**). The first day of moving into the new unit, ** I noticed it was extremely hot and the air didn't work. I followed up with **, the property manager, and she took no ownership. She stated she put the work order in and that was all she could do. Furthermore, she was completely rude. I asked for the District Manager, **, number in order to follow up about the air. I spoke with the DM, **, and he assured me it would be completed by Friday of the following week. I waited until Monday for the air to be fixed and still it wasn't.
I called the DM, **, and he sent me to VM. I then proceeded to call customer service and they gave me the SR District Manager, **, contact info and they assured me he would contact me within 24 hours. His voicemail states he checks it twice daily but unfortunately I never heard back. Up until that point I was surprisingly calm. I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but they continued to demonstrate poor customer service. By that point I was beyond upset and decided I was going to move out. I went to the front desk to ask one of the workers to call the DM, **, because he wasn't answering or returning my calls so I KNEW he would answer theirs which he did. He stated he didn't call me because he didn't have any updates and he blamed the AC company. He said the AC unit is on back order and so on and so forth. I understand that however; I would have appreciated that communication.
Unfortunately, he NEVER said sorry, didn't offer to move me to another climate controlled unit or anything. I told him I was moving out and I felt the right thing for them to do was to return me the initial down payment for the climate controlled unit (**). I was only there for less than 2 weeks and the air didn't work the entire time. He told me he couldn't do that and he would comp the rent for my original unit/non-climate controlled unit (**). I told him that was pointless because I was moving out and already put a down payment with a completely different company. Long story short he agreed to refunding me the money for the climate control unit (**). On the day of moving out I asked the girl upfront to call the DM, **, to inquire about the credit because I hadn't seen a credit.
He stated he never agreed to a credit but said he would give me July's rent free for the old unit (**) which makes no sense because my issue was with ** NOT **. I told him again I didn't want that and had no use for it because I was moving out. The conversation went on and on and nothing was resolved. Unfortunately, they lost a loyal customer because of unprofessional and poor customer service. I wasn't asking for anything free. I was simply asking them to do the right thing. I had no problem paying the rent for the original/non climate controlled (**) unit because I was using it. But I paid the premium rent for climate controlled unit (**) because I wanted climate control but never received climate control because the air didn't work. The climate control unit (**) was half the size of the non-climate controlled (**) unit so it wasn't like everything couldn't fit in the old unit (**).
I will never ever do business again with Public Storage especially the one on 5801 Wilson which reports to the DM, **, and SR DM, **. They don't care about their customers or the quality of the customer experience. The funny thing is the day I was moving out I had another guy asking me where I was moving because he was having the same issue with the climate control and them not doing anything about it. Ridiculous. Shame on you Public Storage.

I started with Shurgard in north Portland many years ago. Very satisfactory. I moved to a different facility in SE Portland and was there for quite a few years. It was still a Shurgard facility. I was very satisfied with the people and the place, until the fire, that is. It was a big fire, but I only had water damage. Lost stuff but mostly sentimental value. I'm not sure when the facility changed to Public Storage, but the same employees were at the 82nd Ave (SE Portland) place. They were very nice about the fire event and said they would move my stuff to a Public Storage of my choice. I chose a facility on about 99th and Division. I got my 3 free months and then started the rent payments. It was a small locker and things went fine for a while until I had to get a bigger locker as I had to move, and had lots more to store. I got a bigger locker and let the office know that I would not be there very long as there was storage available at my new place.
Prior to this, I had arranged for automatic payment from my checking account. I moved out of the facility in August of 2015, and stopped at the office to let them know that I was finished with the locker. I didn't pay any more attention to my checking account in detail (my own fault), but earlier this month I was looking back in my account for another company and found that Public Storage had taken $267.00 out of my account for Sept, Oct, and Nov 2015. I called them to see what was going on. The person I spoke with said I had called and said I was keeping the locker through Nov. Not true. But as I had not kept any closing paperwork I am apparently out of luck. I'm retired, and can't afford to pay for something I did not get, but I'm going to suck it up and figure that the three months that I paid will cover my 3 free months that I got in the first place.
I went to see the office people in person today and they didn't seem to care very much. If Public Storage becomes the only storage facility in the world, I'll take my chances storing my stuff on the street before I would ever rent from Public Storage again. Also, if someone does rent from Public Storage, don't give them access to your checking account.

I was also charged 45 dollars on a 15 dollar late fee. The storage increased the unit with no email, phone call or mailing about the increase and incurred a late fee for 15 dollars. Our experience from the beginning has been a sham. We requested a 10x10 unit. When signing paperwork we were told that we HAD to use their locks and insurance. We refused. We did some research and found on the National Business Standards website that we did not need to use their lock and that our homeowner's policy would cover theft of property from our unit. After advising the lady at the PS office with this info, she backed down and allowed us to rent a unit. At the time of signing, we were quoted $123 a month for the 10x10.
As we were preparing boxes to go into the unit, we measured to find out the total space we were going to have available. It was at this time that we found the space to only be 9x9. We asked the person in the office why our space was only 9x9 and was told that they are all "approximate" sizes. Ok. Here we are 5 months later and I get notice from my bank that PS had taken $144 out for the monthly rent. We immediately called and asked why and was advised that all rates were increased by 17-20%.
Now that I start reading other reviews, this is apparently the norm. We have called the main office for PS and of course, you guessed, no response. The people we have talked to all deliver the same canned response and haven't been very nice to deal with. So, we are paying for 81 sq ft, not 100 sq ft as "advertised". The National Business Standards quotes that anything under 10% size reduction is acceptable. The way I look at it, this is a 19% size reduction. Unacceptable. If this is standard practice for PS to "downsize" space and "upsize" price, I think EVERYONE is getting shammed. Sounds like a nationwide class action lawsuit to me!
Unfortunately we are out of town right now, but as soon as we get back to WA, we will be looking at other alternatives for storage. On an ending note, the condition of the units leave a little to be desired too. This particular PS is not clean at all and there is no lighting to speak of and no surveillance system. If you have alternatives, don't go to Public Storage.

On June 30, 2016, I made the June payment for the Public Storage unit I rented at the Villa Park (Roosevelt Road) facility. On July 14, 2016, I called Public Storage to make the July payment and was informed by the manager that I owed $441.60! When I asked how could my bill be that high when all I owed for was July, I was told that a "check" was returned by my bank for nonpayment. When I told the woman that I made my payment online with a Credit Card, and that I received and email payment confirmation from Public Storage, she said, "Well I cannot see that part of the screen. All I can see is that your check was returned." I NEVER paid by check.
The woman then told me to call their customer service for more details. Not only did I call customer service, I called Sole Paycard Financial to find out what happened with my credit card payment. I talked with the bank customer service person "Allison" and then the bank manager "Jonathan", who both said they saw NO record of the transaction ever being presented for payment by Public Storage. The bank manager and I made a 3-way phone call to Public Storage Customer Service and the woman, "Breanna" said that she saw a returned "check." The bank manager asked Breanna whether there was a checking account number, and she replied yes and recited the last four digits of the account number.
I informed her that those were the last four digits of my credit card! Breanna said she would email the district manager Jonathan **, and asked if I wanted his phone number. I told her yes. Breanna assured me that she was emailing Mr. **. I called Mr. **'s phone number immediately and left a voicemail message on July 14. When I did not receive a call back, I called Mr. **'s number again on July 15, 2016 and left another message. Still no return call.
On July 15, 2016, I called the Villa Park Public Storage location and talked with Kelly, who said she would call Mr. ** and get back to me whether she heard from him or not. Then on Saturday, July 16, 2016, I called Kelly and left a message that I had not heard from her regarding this matter and that I would be contacting the corporate office about the matter. Kelly did call me that day to say that she talked with Mr. ** and that he said I would have to pay the full amount and that my unit is scheduled for auction!
I told Kelly that I made the payment and there was never a check issued, and that I had a payment confirmation email from Public Storage. I also told her about the call the bank manager and I made to Public Storage's customer service. I then told Kelly that I expect this matter to be handled by Public Storage and that the fees and the payment of $143.40 they should eat because They made a mistake, not me. Kelly then said that she had no authority to do that and I asked her Who had the authority. She hesitated and finally said Mr. ** was the one to make the decision.
I told Kelly that I felt Mr. ** purposely ignored my phone calls and did not try to resolve this matter. He is not interested in customers. Instead of Public Storage making amends for their online system error, they are trying to charge me $125.40 in fees, plus $25 for a "dishonored check" although I did not write any check. Kelly told me to bring in any documentation that I had regarding this matter. When I went to the office, I presented Kelly with a printout of the Public Storage payment confirmation and showed her my payroll printout showing that my money was deposited in my account and that there was more than enough money in the account on June 30, 2016 to cover that payment.
Kelly then asked me if I received a card from them and I said no. The card was sent to my former address; however, when I told Kelly that I had a mail forwarding order in effect, she replied, No mail from Public Storage are forwarded. I have heard nothing but Excuses from customer service and the storage facility manager. The District Manager, Jonathan ** has not contacted me regarding this situation and thinks he can ignore my complaint. I am writing Public Storage headquarters, and filing a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General's Office about this situation.
Public Storage is not a good company (just look at the hundreds of negative complaints and reviews on their website and other social media). In addition, they charge exorbitant fees for outdoor storage; whereas, much nicer, indoor temperature controlled facilities charge a lot less! I would not recommend anyone use Public Storage because they do not admit their mistakes and they ignore complaints.

I pay for a unit for my daughter who just moved to LA. The monthly price was 155. I just went online to pay for the unit, and they raised the price on July 1st to 180. In only 8 months they jacked me for almost a 20% increase... They're a predatory business, just like subprime loans. Now I have to get my daughter to clean out the unit, but I HAVE TO PAY THEM 180 because they said a notice was sent out on July 1st. Isn't that nice, I don't even get the courtesy of moving out to avoid the increase. Now they're holding my daughter's belongings hostage because I refuse to pay the 180. To add insult, they've now tacked on a 25 dollar late fee, which was originally 20 dollars, to enforce that I pay for July @ 180+25, and I can't enter the premises, because they've lock us out until they get their strong arm price. So now I have to pay 205 or they won't allow access... PUBLIC STORAGE IS SCAM!!!!

I inquired about this and was advise since being on a month to month, after 6 months they can raise the rent, mine was after 8 months. DO NOT rent from them if you're storing for more than 6 months.

So I went to public storage for space back in January 2016. I'm a traveling tech, so I'm rarely in state. I needed to put my apartment furniture in a storage that I felt I could trust. So it's now July and my storage fee went up without notification. I'm now at 200 dollars a month for a storage! This is ridiculous. Now I have to spend money to go home and move my stuff out. They are such a waste of time. Do not fall for it. It isn't even an annual increase. They increase in the first 6 months. Then when I called weeks ago, and three days ago, and two days ago, I couldn't even get a response to my call. ALL of their competitors are lower than them in price. I promise that you will be disappointed with them if you use them.

I rented a storage unit (actually switched sizes several times) over a 4-year period from Public Storage Pasadena (Colorado Blvd & Daisy Ave.) Last month I received a phone message saying there was an urgent matter regarding my unit. When I went to see what had happened, I was told that something with my lock looked unusual during their walk-through. When we opened my unit, the only things missing were 3 pieces of artwork. Two were large original acrylic on canvas paintings & the other was a professionally framed print. All had been wrapped in brown moving paper. These were quite large, so anyone carrying them should have been obvious on the cameras so when I asked about the security footage, I was informed that the only working cameras at this facility were in the lobby (motion-activated) and the parking lot.
The district manager filled out a report online (I guess he did; I never received a copy). I filed a police report. The police officers indicated that it's common for them to be called out to this facility for issues of theft. Looking at Yelp, there have been multiple cases of theft in the past few months (many on the same floor). What is confusing and frustrating from someone who spent thousands of dollars to store my belongings, is that there are cameras mounted outside of each elevator & yet I was told they are NOT IN WORKING ORDER. To me, this is fraud, plain & simple. You are lead to believe that there is a BASIC LEVEL OF SECURITY BEING PROVIDED which is UNTRUE.
Also, the "alarm" on the garage-style doors on the larger units is supposed to sound if someone opens the door who has not typed in the passcode to that unit. Apparently THESE DO NOT WORK EITHER - or someone "inside" Public Storage who has access to these codes is passing them out to someone they know. The lock that was unlocked when I arrived is another point of confusion for me. These round locks (which I purchased from PS when I initially rented my unit) CANNOT BE LEFT UNLOCKED. When you put the key into them and turn the bolt, you can't pull the key out until the bolt is securely locked.
The whole thing seems incredibly suspect to me. I have since moved my belongings out & will never rent from Public Storage again. My advice is to look around for someplace that actually provides security measures when they take your hard-earned money each month. I read this comment to a customer from Public Storage: Public Storage - 16 d 20 h ago. "A high-security lock is required for all tenants on property. This policy is for your protection. We do our best to protect your items, but having onsite cameras, and coded locked gates, we ask you do your part by using a high-security lock." Public Storage, I ask that you do your part by having working security measures at your locations. DO NOT TAKE MONEY FROM CUSTOMERS AND MISREPRESENT YOUR LEVEL OF SECURITY. THIS IS FRAUD.

Due to having my daughter early I had no other choice but to keep my things at this storage!! (Boy was that a mistake.) I had lost my job and was on my own with no family or friends so I considered Public Storage my family. My baby girl passed away at just 5 months and I had no insurance due to her being born early, so I had to take care of her arrangements and because of this my payments were late. (Not to mention the breakdown I had from losing my daughter and only child) Long story short my Auction was up for today, I worked all week trying to reach out to the District manager and corporate only to be told this was not their problem.
My storage was 950 due to all the fees that were added on which I offered to pay them 500 today and I would have the rest this Friday and was told no that payment was needed in full. 3 hours later I check my email and found out that my storage was sold for 400 and public storage posted a bill on my account for the remaining balance which was a little over 550 (sic). Everything I owned was in this storage. I have nothing but my life right now and I'm grateful for that. I want to warn people to please stay away from this company, shop around! Lord knows I wish I would've. Excuse me if my words are all over the place but that's how I'm feeling right now, had I known what I know now I would have never step foot on a Public Storage property.

Rates were raised 35% in two years. Considering the inflation rate is 1%, this is unethical. You will pay more for the storage than your belongings are worth long term. And if you try to register a complaint, emailed requests are not answered and the local facility punts to the California headquarters, where their automated menu never allows you to speak directly with customer service. Instead you are punted back to the local facility. Attempts to strike up a dialog with anyone administrative are all futile. "Customer service" is apparently a foreign phrase that doesn't translate for them. If you use them, get in and out fast.

Just as I was about to sign paperwork, the requirement for mandatory insurance was disclosed for the first time for which they would sign me up for. I requested to have time to reconsider my option and was promised that the reservation would be good until the end of the week. I received a reminder email of my move in date on yesterday and immediately called to confirm final pricing and availability. I then made an appointment to sign paperwork and move in.
When I show up to move in, I was told that someone else "confirmed" my unit, and that I was bumped to a smaller unit at a higher rate - the online specials did not apply. Of course, I am in shock and very frustrated since I called just the day before. That's when the "child" at the desk tells me that she had not even pulled up my account. She called someone to further explain to me why I no longer had the reservation and put them on speaker phone.
As I was again expressing frustration because I had just spoken with her on yesterday, she hangs up the phone and rudely asks "So do you want the smaller unit?" I told her that she did not belong behind that desk since she does not know how to interact with customer and I felt like I was having a disagreement with my teenage daughter instead of a business professional. All this, with an email that still states that I can move in today into the original unit that I requested at the published online special rate. This is totally unacceptable service. Mistake happens, but it gets very ugly when matters - good or bad - are not handled in a professional manner.

When I went to the Public Storage located at 15760 S. U.S. Highway 441 in Summerfield, Florida I was given a wavering price schedule for an outside lot to store an ATV and trailer. When I went online and paid rent for a lot at the same place I got a lower rate. Once I retained a lot I went to the office to fill out the paperwork and was charged a $24 FEE as a "NEW ACCOUNT ADMINISTRATION FEE". I explained that I had rented there before so I was a RETURNING ACCOUNT so they could waive their fee. They claimed I wasn't in their system. When I told them I would produce receipts from previous rental business with them a few years earlier I was given more excuses as to why I must pay this bogus, "FEE".
I reluctantly paid and was told if I was going to take my ATV out that they wanted me to call them and let them know so they wouldn't assume it was stolen during their walk-throughs of the property. I then asked them if they had security cameras around the property at which time they claimed they in fact did. I called them as requested each time I took my ATV in and out of the lot and then one afternoon I received a call from them asking if I took my ATV off the lot. An immediate sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach hit as I KNEW my ATV and trailer had been ripped off.
The thief/thieves cut the chain link fence and drug my ATV and trailer right off the lot. They also cut the locks off another trailer and stole a tool box as well as damaged several gas tanks on other vehicles and stole gas. Come to find out, this facility had TWO different "Un-Security" camera systems. The one covering the parking lot was an old, out-dated system that was obsolete and didn't work so of course we (The detective and I) couldn't get ANY information to capture the thieves. Did Public Storage offer ANY help? Oh, HELL NO! Would I EVER suggest ANYONE EVER utilize their "services"? HELL NO!

We should have realized from the terrible "Better than You" or "We Own You" attitude we experienced when we first arrived at the location that this was going to be a bad idea. We needed to store seasonal items from our home and keepsakes for the kids now they they've grown up and moved out. So we choose a Storage place with a name that seemed clean and inviting.
It's been terrible for the entire 5 months we've been there. There's businesses actually working out of the storage units with portable power units running and equipment pulled out into the drive areas and the place is constantly dirty with debris in the driveway and in front of your storage doors. We've had two tires flattened from running over nails/screws left in the driveways and when we complained to management they didn't even apologize, in fact they just shrugged their shoulders and looked away. When I asked if they were going to do something about it, they said there was nothing they could do.
The other day I was there and a fellow approached me and introduced himself as the new manager, promising the place would be better. I thanked him for any help he could provide because it's a lot of trouble to move everything to a different storage facility. He was raking some leaves. Yesterday I again dropped by to drop off the Easter stuff and nearly lost another tire. Found three screws in the driveway in front of our storage unit.
To add insult to injury, today I went to pay my monthly bill (In advance as I always do) and I see that they have increased my monthly charge by $20. I called their customer service line and was told they sent me a letter telling me about the increase. Funny cause I go to the mail box every day with the dog and never saw anything. My guess is that they didn't like me complaining so they raised my rates. We're paying for this month to give us time to move out of this terrible place. I can't believe this place is able to stay in business!

I stated before I would care to make an appointment I would need to know the cost of the unit and if they were running any specials. I was informed of the unit cost on a month to month basis, the special first month for $1, and the one-time "admin fee" of $24. And I quote, "for an out-the-door-today cost of $25 to you ma'am".
After reviewing what we discussed a second time, I agreed to meet with the on-site manager at 4:00 that afternoon. I provided my name, phone number, and email address and the person handling the call asked to verify with me a final summary of what we discussed, again verifying the appointment time, location, unit size, and cost of the first month's rent and fees, giving me a total of $25 for the first month TOTAL. I was told that I would receive email confirmation as well. Although I wasn't impressed by this person, they were polite and pleasant.
However, shortly after hanging up, I received a call and was disturbed when the person at the other end said, "this is-- by the mall, you wanted to make an appointment?" I said I was told I had a four o'clock appointment. "Well! That was by someone in the call center in California. How would they know what my schedule is?" And continued on rudely for another minute or two and stated, "if I wasn't there by four pm I could plan on waiting." Then once I arrived, I was told a lock was necessary, one I must purchase there, as well as insurance. So the $25 out-the-door-today... Turned into an additional $40. I was clear in the first place about the amount of financial burden I could afford. It seems as though the tactics for renting these units are not completely honest and forward. However, they were said they were going to waive the late fee when they finished lunch. I waited, but no return was ever received. I called Public Storage customer service. After pounding in several buttons and waiting 20 minutes, all I could get was they couldn't help and that I would have to talk with the supervisor at storage unit. I did and he was too busy at lunch to help and said it wasn't his problem. He agreed to waive the late fee (never happened). Only answer I ever got from Public Storage was that their mailbox was down. I did see that it was down for almost a month. I did finally cancel the Bank of America Payments since they could NOT be found by Public Storage.
Now some backup. I've been with Shurgard who was bought out by Public Storage for more than 10 years. I have used Bank of America bill pay for the entire period. I've used Bank of America for most of my other bill and never had a problem. I've never had a problem with lost payments anywhere until Public Storage in 2015. I realize software upgrade and things can happen, but I cannot tolerate bad customer service and runarounds with absolutely no help to resolve the situation. Once they have your money, they DO NOT CARE.

I put my daughter's belongings in a public storage unit here in Milwaukee, WI after her move from California. I paid the 1st month at the counter the day we moved her things in then the following month I did it online with my checking account. About a week I received a postcard saying that the check was returned. According to my bank it never got to them or processed. I called them and they said there was nothing they could do, I owed late fees and also returned check fee. I have had my account for 20 yrs and never bounced a check. They were so rude and not helpful.
My daughter paid the following 2 months in cash and then on the 1st since they were closed. She did it online and today she got the notice saying her check was returned for insufficient funds which again was not true and she was stuck with late fees and returned check fees. I believe that they have an issue with their system and this is just another way for them to rip people off. Has this happened to anyone else?

Reasonable people know that mistakes happen. On Dec. 30, 2015, in an attempt to pay my rental fee on-line, I provided Public Storage with the routing and account numbers as they requested, using the graphic of a check that appears on the website. I received payment confirmation. On January 6, 2016, I received a phone call from my local Public Storage informing me that my check was returned, that I had been charged an NSF fee of $25.00 and that my bank was not an ACH member. After hours on the phone, I learned that banks use an ACH routing number for digital transactions, something I did not know, and something Public Storage did not ask for in their directions for arranging an on-line payment.
I also learned that our bank does process payments if the ACH routing number is not used. The bank has no record of refusing to pay Public Storage. Did Public Storage attempt to process my payment? They claim they did and that the check was "returned". The bank has no record of returning anything. I have spent six hours on the phone today trying to speak with someone in the chain of command at Public Storage who actually has the authority to address this issue. I was told that only a District Manager can solve this problem and that they have 24-48 hours to respond to a customer. So, the real issue here is the lack of quality customer service at Public Storage. If the fee charged was a late fee, the first line of customer service could remove the charge but because it is an NSF fee they cannot.
The regional director listens to voice mail twice a day and then begins to do call backs. That is why they have a 24-48 hour window. That is inadequate customer service. I even call corporate headquarters but could not get past their customer service because, "He has a business to run." Well, customers are part of that business and I will soon be a former customer of Public Storage. We are in the process of moving. Moving supplies will be purchased but not at Public Storage. Additional storage time is needed. It will not be at Public Storage. If I am not worth a call back earlier than two days to solve a problem Public Storage created, Public Storage is not worth my business.

Horrific!!! I was given a rate via customer service 800 #. When I arrived at the unit the location manager "James" quoted me a different price and he said corporate could change my rate tomorrow if they choose to. He then told me I was required to buy their lock at $20 and I couldn't use a lock of my choice. I told him I would buy one at Home Depot and he said they didn't have any. I went to Home Depot and they had it. He asked me to leave him positive feedback there and then.
I came back a week later and needed to throw away a chair and he said they didn't have a dump for customers, and if I left the chair they would bill me $100. I called a public storage up the road and he said he was more than happy to dispose of the chair. Since I had no space in my car I had to put it on the roof of my car while my son held it as I drove to the other location. The manager there could care less and could not have common human courtesy to help. Not to mention how dangerous it was. This has been by far the worst experience I've had and will be removing my personal belongings from the tampa Florida location at 16415 N Dale Mabry.

Just got off of the phone with these God-awful people. I just moved into a unit in May 2015. The regular price for the unit was $102. Here it is December 2015, and they have increased my rental charge to $119 without my knowledge. It's funny how they allege that they did notify me by mail, but I have never received anything. As I was reading through some of the comments here, I find it pretty strange that most of the complaints about this ridiculous increase state that the customer was NOT notified.
When I asked the rep why was there an increase and what determines the timing and the amount of the increase, she gave me some regurgitated explanation about market pricing, etc., etc. It's very suspect that I couldn't get an affirmative reason as to why the rate has gone up from $102 to $119 after only 5 months. Why 5 months and why a $17 increase??? I asked the girl, "So what you're basically telling me is that because I am renting my unit on a month-to-month basis, I am subject to having a random increase next month if you all see fit???" She actually told me "yes... That could be possible." Are you kidding me!!! These people pray on the fact that they have people's personal items in their units and this makes it very difficult for people to just up and terminate their services with this piss-poor sham of a company! I set up my payments through my online banking services for my public storage unit. The first 6-8 months went thru with no problems. Then on the next payment I got a postcard from my local public storage facility that I was late on my payment and there was a late payment fee ($20.00). I checked online with my bank and the payment had been deducted from my checking account and sent to PS. I went to talk to the manager and showed her on my cell phone where the payment had been deducted from my account. She said that I needed to bring a statement from my bank showing the transaction, which I did.
My bank said the payment had been sent to Public Storage and PS stated that they had never received it. My bank said since they claimed that hadn't received it, we should assume that the payment was lost in the mail and we needed to put a Stop Payment on it. I then paid the month's rental storage fee in cash and received a receipt. About 3 weeks later I received another postcard from PS. They said that I had violated my agreement and put a stop payment on a check that I had given them and that would be an additional payment of $25. They had apparently found the original check from my bank and attempted to cash it and couldn't because of the stop payment. I went to the manager and showed her my cash receipt for the month in question and why I stopped payment on the check that they said they had never received.
She said there was nothing She could do because I had stopped payment on a check which was a violation of my rental agreement. It took me about 6 week and 52 calls to the manager, area manager, 800 number customer service. No one could resolve my issue and some were sympathetic and others were just downright rude. Many times when talking to someone on the 800 customer service line, I would be told that there was nothing they could and I would ask to talk to their supervisor they would say "ok, hold on”, and they'd put me on Hold and 10 seconds later the call would dropped. Six weeks later I finally got a hold of an Area Manager from another state and he was able to resolve the issue and refunded the $25 to my account. The end of the worst customer service experience of my life. I wouldn't recommend Public Storage to anyone.

I was an employee at PS in June of 2009 when the climate controlled building my APT was located (it was required that the property Manager live on site) caught fire. Me and my husband were asleep. We were woken by fire fighters literally knocking our door in, thank god. We lost everything along with all the people that had stuff in the units in that building. Public Storage was very cold and uncaring to my loss. They replaced nothing. One of the higher managers at corporate office gave me 100 $ out of her pocket. So I'm just saying they don't care about your stuff. So you had better have your stuff insured.

The company PUBLIC STORAGE, that rents storage units to the public, will go out of its way, to sell your storage, as quickly as possible, without proper notice. They are rude and soulless.
The majority of folks, that use storage, are down on their luck and between rentals. My unit, with the last of my beloved possessions, that were the best of my best cherished items, that I was able to hold onto, through an extremely hard time in my live, was sold 29 days after I had made a payment in full. At the end of one month, my unit was paid in full. I would owe on that first of the coming month. Yes, I would be late, and tried to pay for that month at the end of the month, but my unit had already been sold. This is NOT within the laws of my state, and I would think, any state. I was always threatened by the company. They never called me or notified me my unit was selling. Who THE HELL would of expected this anyways! Oh, when you owe on the first, a rude person, will continuously call you, on the 2nd, and any time of day, onward. It is a TERRIBLE organization, and I am cut to the soul on what they did. I have contacted the office of our Governor, etc.

I have had my 12'x42' RV trailer for 2 or 3 years with Morning Star storage, and my rent only went up $120.00. Without any notice Public Storage bought the property, and when my current years lease was up, a couple of months later, they raised my rent $360.00 a year. A year later, they raised my rent another $600.00 a year. Public Storage raised my rent from $2,964.00 to $3,756.00.
I have a boat, and if we don't get back bay by 9:00 PM I don't have a place to park my boat, nor can I get my boat out before 6:00 AM (pretty insane for the exorbitant price from these thieves). But I have been fortunate because the gate has been left open about 10% of the time. We need a class action suit against these people. There is no electric, plumbing, or anything that should cause the rent to go up. Especially Oh!, and if you want to get in touch with somebody from corporate? good Luck, their contact numbers are not listed, and the lot representatives cannot provide numbers for you.

I Rented a Storage Unit in early June 2015. I was moving from out of state and had not yet found a place so I rented a unit from Public Storage located on W 47th St in Chicago. I never visited the storage afterwards. I made all of my payments at a location that was closer to where I was. I found a place in early August 2015. I went to retrieve all of my items and as soon as I opened the door roaches were everywhere. I was really upset and stormed to the office but they were still closed. My children and I removed all of the belongings killing dozens of roaches at the same time. I took pictures of the roaches coming from under the unit next to ours. Once I reached my destination I just started throwing everything away. I just kept our clothes.
A few hours later I was able to get in touch with someone at the facility and I explained to her what was happening and for her to inform other customers who have items in storage. She told me to file a claim and explained she could not control what people brought in. She did show empathy and sympathy, however I was very upset because I was not taking any of the items into my new place. I called the insurance company and filed a claim and the first lady I talked to was very helpful and she assured me everything was going to be fine. I got a callback a couple days later from a Claims Representative and she asked me several questions. I informed her that she could contact my previous landlord if she liked, in which they would tell her I never had pests. She asked me if I had any food in storage I told her I only had can goods that were not opened.
She informed me that rodents are under additional overages in the policy I had, in which only $250 max would be paid out if in my favor, but since I had sealed can goods in my storage I did not qualify. I was not aware that I couldn't put what I want in my storage that I was paying for. Maybe they should get their units exterminated before just moving people in them. I was really upset and explained that I was not informed of anything like this at the time of purchase and that I would never recommend or do business with them ever again. BE CAREFUL!!!! FIND OUT WHAT THE POLICY IS IF YOUR ITEMS ARE INFESTED WITH PEST, BEDBUGS OR RODENTS.

I rent a storage unit at this facility. I frequent facility often. I had problems with my truck. Called a friend to come look & diagnosis. He arrived at gate soon after. He said I shouldn't drive. He would take me to my appts. & get parts. I left truck in a designated parking space. Unable to get part until Monday I left truck parked. I thought to call as a courtesy on Sunday afternoon, since my mechanic is close, it would be there another night. I left detailed voice message stating if problem call me ASAP. Heard nothing. Monday parts ordered, Tuesday take for repair. Call storage Tuesday and spoke to desk. She said no problem it was there. I asked about my bill. She stated all was fine paid up to EOM. I arrive and truck gone! Went inside & she looked on computer and desk area and said "I don't know, It hasn't been towed, by us."
She suggested "Call police. Report stolen vehicle." & she would check videotapes from weekend. I walked outside in shock and began to call police, when she came out & said "Yes it's been towed on Monday and gave me instructions to recover." Meanwhile, others in office stated how they never check messages. Which (I've been called back before.) When she was asked about the tow, she said "The white truck?" Then looked at me and immediately said "oh. I never saw a truck." Then a male employee walked in from another office. And just made himself present no words. Only after she offered to check video for me was he present. She also made a call to site manager and explained exactly the issue at hand and reported that I called twice, nobody checked messages, noted account of activity or leave any paperwork or log of activity for office staff.
When settling at Tow yard the office manager for Tow Co. stated on her own that they'll probably cover 1/2 half of the fees! I drove to facility after and took pics and found not ONE Tow Zone or 24 HR. TOW. or any other signage stating parking rules, overnight parking, or anything about rules and regulations. Only areas Handicap marked well and DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAYS FIRE LANE. I love this place. Very nice people till now. I assume he knew about towing my truck. Police had information and I contacted Tow Yard. Turns out truck was towed SUNDAY. $550. No signs throughout the entire facility states No Parking (except fire and hydrants are marked, and handicap areas.) Nothing ok in front gate or throughout facility. I am unemployed and had some money reserve for trip or now to fix truck.
This have as been a complete nightmare. Truck has been packed with all my important papers (pink slip, birth cert. social sec.). My complaint is easy. Before there are other tenants quite bold, and stay all night, park in no parking zones and a little loud. As I have observed being there often as well. Just that week he had given a woman a verbal warning about gate hours. She voiced her opinion to me about him when he left. She. Obviously. He assumed my acquaintance with her? Or figured I was one of same group that has been making themselves a spectacle? IDK but I'm set back a week, no money, broken truck, plus extra expenses for transportation inconvenience of no truck. I looked up California laws pertaining to Towing private property vehicles. There has to be signs, clearly at gate or throughout facility.
I should of had a notice placed on truck or phone call. Tow only after 72 hrs. Even if abandoned that's the courtesy. These fill in employees or weekend staff. Whomever authorized should be held a accountable and my money refunded in full including the extra $25. Spent for train tickets and bus fares. Be aware of hidden agendas. I assumed responsibility for half until I looked into matter further and really feel violated for some personal issue an employee had against another customer.

I have a storage unit with Public storage that is located at 1450 Copans Road, Pompano Beach Florida. When I got the storage October 2014, I was told that it was going to be approximately $99.00 a month, because I took advantage of their special. Little did I know that Public Storage was taking advantage of me. A few months after, I began being charged $120.94. When I asked why, of course no one could give me an answer. At any rate I continued to keep my storage and I paid my bill faithfully. When July 2015 came, I paid my bill and inquired of the procedures of closing out my account. The Public Storage employee where I would pay my bill, located on Sample Road said, "You have a 7 day grace period to remove your belongings and to have the unit cleaned, that I needed to be out by 9:00 pm". I was okay with that.
I went to my storage unit the 6th of August 2015 after work to retrieve my belongings. I got everything out, except my bed and 2 stands. I figured would just retrieve them the very next day considering I have a 7 day grace period. When the movers I had went to get me belongings, my passcode had been blocked. The movers went and talked with the Public Storage employee then called me. I was asked to call the Storage employee on telephone Which I did. I asked what the problem was. The employee said that not only did I need to pay $120.84, but I needed to pay a late fee, which would bring the total to $150.00. I explained to the girl that I was told by an employee at the Sample Road store, that I have a 7 day grace period. The employee said that she would email her boss about this situation, which I've yet to hear from him.
I ended up calling Corporate Office thinking that just maybe I could talk to someone that had if not good business savvy, had fair business ethics. Boy was I ever so wrong. Louise from the corporate office said, “The best I can do for you is take off the late fees". So I'm being penalized for being misinformed by one of Public Storage Employee. It wasn't like I was going to take all day to remove the couple items I had left in storage. In fact it would have taken me a total of 15 minutes if that So I figured to call the District Manager Daniel **. I explained the situation to him.
He said, "The best he could do for me was prorate me for the 6 days. Basically I would still have to pay for a whole month, when I wouldn't be needing it for the month just 15 minutes. It sounded to me as if Public Storage was prostituting themselves. It's a terrible thing when company’s customer service has gone straight to hades. I will NEVER use Public Storage again And I would advise anyone looking for storage to run the other way if when it comes to Public Storage. By the way Mr. Daniel ** said that he would call me back and get back to me on this situation. Guess what? I've still yet to hear from him.
UPDATED ON 09/23/2015: I have already given a lengthy account of my situation. However I wanted to give an update of what has happened since I gave my review on Public Storage on Copans Road. I spoke with the Area Manager/District Manager Mr. Daniel ** about the situation and what had occurred with my storage unit. I thought that Mr. Daniel ** was being fair when he said that he would prorate me for the 7 days and the 7 days is what I would have to pay. I was able to retrieve my belongings. The next thing I know, I get a letter in the mail from Allied Interstate, (a collection agency) stating that I owed Public Storage $120.84 and that Public Storage was willing to settle for $84.96.
Of course to my surprise I was stunned that this man, the District Manager/Area Manager of Public Storage that agreed to prorating this, all of a sudden sends this bill out to a collection agency to try and ruin my credit. It just shows that Public Storage is totally a dishonest company all together. If you cannot take the word of the District/Area Manager it only proves that you sure as heck cannot take the words of the employees. Which is what got me into this situation to begin with, when the young lady (employee) at the Public Storage on Sample Road said that I had a 7 day grace period to remove my belongings.

We majorly downsized and needed 300 sq. ft of storage. After shopping rates in the immediate area online, we decided on Public Storage. Obviously, we did not look at reviews beforehand. :-( The first month's rent was $1 and then $216/month. We received our bills via email and set up an auto pay through our back - done! On July 7, we received a postcard in the mail stating our rate would be going up to $253 starting August 1! First of all, that's a ridiculous increase! Second, that's NOT a 30-day notice, which is required per their contract.
After calling and arguing locally they said they couldn't do anything and that I would have to call customer service. After pushing 25 buttons and being on hold for nearly 30 minutes, I got another person who couldn't do anything. We found another storage company, locally owned and operated, which I now know is KEY! Our new rate for 300 sq. ft. is $125/month. My main question is...why didn't they email the increase as opposed to mailing it? We would have had the 30 days without question! They "dated" the postcard June 29th but sent it in a way that does not get postmarked...convenient! It's clear they do it on purpose - nice company!

Their marketing is to send you repeated rate increases they devise at amounts small enough to keep you from moving out each time due to the expense you'd incur to relocate. Hence, by repeatedly bumping you with smaller rate increases, you are less likely to move out. NEVER tell them you are from out of state or they will skyrocket your rates since they know you won't fly back to move. Examples: My exterior parking from the $70 to $140. 10×40s $275 to over $375. 10×20s $180 to $220 so far. All documented. I have received over 23 rate increases! The increase was going into effect July 1. Within a couple of days of receiving the notice I followed the website instructions and scheduled the move out online and a week in advance for June 16, 2015. Just yesterday - three days before we're set to leave the country - Public Storage raised our rates by $35/month! They claim they sent out a written notice a month ago (we never received it) and pointed to a line in the contract that says they can raise the rent as much and whenever they choose. What galls me is that I had specifically asked about rent increases when we rented the unit in February and was told our rate was "locked in" for two years!
Yesterday I was told the only way to lock in a rate was to prepay for 6-12 months. Had we known that in February, we would have done that - especially since nothing protects us from their raising the rents every month from here on out! The manager of our unit told us that it was company policy for employees NOT to tell customers that rent increases were to be expected. Then just found out that is not true. I had rodent damage, that seems to be my fault for minimum times I actually go there. Their insurance requires you to do ALL of the work for just a Max $250 payout with a hundred dollar deductible. Nobody third party looks at it, they want you to do inventory, provide proof it's yours, receipts, dates of purchase, etc. Hard to do when stuff is made up of collectibles, stuff inherited, and gifted, and then like most people, years of accumulated property through the years or even some hoarding. Then the rent can go up every 6 months or year they say from demand. After being a long term customer I couldn't pay the rate any longer and told them several times it was getting out of my budget.
By the way, keep cardboard boxes off cement. I had one spot in unit that moisture was coming up from poor sealed concrete. I am submitting pictures of proof of my statement. My stuff of loss is my personal property and it's more than $250 to go through clean and do their homework, so it's best I part ways and have found new space. I had a unit in past of a 10X30 and didn't go unit for a year and never had this problem. This was a smaller unit half the size and found competition less than 15 miles away for almost $80 less a month. Public Storage has recently (two weeks??) purchased the storage rental company that we have been with for about 7 years. It seems they have "purchased" many in the area very recently. I received a letter one week ago for each of my two units explaining that they had bought the company and the new rules and regulations.
I tried to log on to the Public Storage website to pay my bill that would be due in a few days using the instructions on the letter I received. The site kept telling me that the info was not correct. I called local office to get info on how to fix this and received voicemail which I left a message on. Got no response within an hour and left two additional messages that day. Never got a return call from the previous day so this morning I went to office.
The office was completely under construction and the young lady in the office said she didn't have any access to the internet so that is why they weren't returning calls. It was also the reason why I could not pay my bill in person since I could not pay it online. Letter has the rate of one unit wrong. The lady at the local office said it was because the computer was charging tax but she didn't know why and she couldn't fix it (This added 15.00 to that unit). She had heard someone else complain earlier in the day but she hadn't passed the info to Corporate (her words). So when I inquired how was I supposed to pay my bill she told me to call the 800 #.
I called the 800 # to be told many things. One, that I can't access the site to pay bill because I wasn't using Internet Explorer. Who uses Internet Explorer anymore??? She then proceeds to tell me that she can log into my account and that it works. So I ask her about the amount due since it is incorrect and she tells me that it shows a 0.00 balance even though the bill is due tomorrow and she can't take a payment when it shows no balance due. But she would have to charge me 20.00 to take a payment EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MY ONLY OPTION TO PAY AT THAT POINT. She claims to have sent these several issues straight to a manager and I would hear back very shortly. Well the rest of the day has come and gone and of course I have heard nothing. I have now spent several hours trying to pay a bill. Will be getting out of this nonsense VERY QUICKLY!!!

When I rented a storage locker recently, the salesperson told me I must take their property insurance at $11 a month unless I brought in my homeowner's policy and proved that my existing policy covered off premises damage (Which almost any Homeowner's Policy will have). Until that time I would have to take their insurance. After reading the fine print in the lease, all that was required was to decline the insurance and acknowledge that I would be responsible for any loss. No proof of coverage is required. Trying to get it cancelled was difficult and when I called today they said I had to come in and sign a form to "decline the insurance and acknowledge that I would be responsible for any loss." What a ripoff - they must hope that most people won't be bothered.

Public Storage is nothing more than a sales/marketing organization disguised as a storage business. The personnel move from facility to facility. It is heavily sales scripted. When you first make the call to the 800 number, in a matter of minutes you will get the feel that you are in a car dealership. Once they get your information they will make an appointment at the facility of your choosing.
When you arrive they will prequalify you for the storage unit based on a series of questions and then take you around in the little golf cart to the storage unit based on the questions you have answered, very similar to the car dealer. Then when you return to the office they will try to close the deal and get your money. If they don't get your money that day, they will make a sales follow-up call using another one of their employees to pressure you into a decision. They have a very sophisticated phone system. Once they have your phone numbers, don't try calling the 800 number back to reach the corporate office for any reason; it will only ring at the facility you visited.
When I first checked these guys out I did not find any bad reviews at first and then I returned and Googled Public Storage reviews and I got hundreds. No kidding. Oh, and the "$1 First Month Rent" is nothing more than a scam. Don't just take my word for it. Go to this site and read the Top 301 Complaints and Reviews about Public Storage at consumeraffairs.com.

I chose Public Storage 3 years ago when my family had a major emergency and we had to move. First, the first month's rent for $1 is truly a scam. Next, your unit will go up in price twice a year. I have never missed a single payment in the last 3 years, and they're making a responsible and reliable consumer pay $340 a month for a 10x30? When I saw that my rent was due to go up again in July, I decided to move out. I went to Public Storage in Blaine to have my Public Storage lock removed - and they didn't have the spare key!
I asked if I could cut my own lock with some bolt cutters, and they told me they were not allowed on the property and the only way to have the lock removed would be by a Manager. He was not in the office on the day I was there (June 3rd, 2015) and they said I would have to wait for him to call me so we could schedule an appointment. I said I want to be present when my lock is cut, and they assured me it would not be cut unless I was there. Nearly 3 weeks later on June 17th, after calling them over a dozen times and only reaching a voicemail, someone finally called me back. They informed me that my lock had been cut on the 5th of June, and that someone had tried to call me to inform me. There was never a call placed to me by them, nor a message left, and I am having my T-Mobile call history pulled for the attorney general to prove that.
This meant 3 weeks of time I could have spent moving out was lost. I called the District Manager to politely inform him what had happened, and that I would be happy to settle the situation if they waived the fee for July. (Since I would have been out before then anyways!) Instead, he rudely stated over 5 times that the lock cutting was a courtesy and would not listen or be open to any other way to resolve the matter and that I would be charged for July if I am not out before then. On the inside of their office, there is a sign that specifically says that as consumers, we have a legal right to be present during the cutting of a lock on a personal unit! They never called me, they cut my lock without my presence, they were very rude to me on the phone, and never got back to me for nearly 3 weeks, and are now saying I am supposed to pay for July?!
I am very upset and I am contacting the Attorney General Lori Swanson tonight, and I will be contacting every consumer protection agency I can to make this situation brought to light, and so no one else has to deal with such unprofessional, expensive, and deceitful behavior this business has to offer. (Again, keep in mind, I was a loyal, long time consumer for over 3 years with NEVER missing a payment, and they couldn't make 1 exception for something that was 100% their fault!)

I've had a lot of my belongings in storage for most of the year. I put my stuff in a storage space at a (Public Storage) for like the third time now. I never liked dealing with this (Public Storage) but it is always the closest storage rental to go too from where I am living at the time.. And they're just all over the place it seems, they became a monopoly! But the truth is I've had my stuff in other storage facilities before and they were always so much better than this (Public Storage!!). First of all the other storage facility's treated me like a customer that appreciate my business, and not just another unit they can just fill! There are a lot of complaints I like to say about (Public Storage) and I am sure so many people that ever had to deal with them can agree..
They really think since they're a monopoly that they can just raise your rent whenever they want or if god forbid you lose your job or get laid off or whatever the case may happen to you... If you do not make a payment within just over a 30 day period they will put your unit in lien! And that means they charge you a second late fee which is $50.00. The first late fee is $30.00 by the way. Then they cut your lock off your unit and that is actually the lock you must buy from them when you first move in so then you have to buy a second lock from them again if you get out of lien. You also lose your insurance if you Dare to be late of your unit.. with all your valuables and personals not anymore insured from theft or other! But even worse of all once your unit is in lien and that is only being late for only approx. 35 days they can auction off your stuff! And oh yeah that also is a $10.00 charge when they advertise your personal belongings to the public!
But what most Disgusted me about this storage company (Public Storage) was getting this letter in the mail saying that if my balance is not paid in full by this date.. which is only about 40 days after they put my unit in lien that if they are not able to sell my unit then they will Dispose all my stuff in the unit! That is so Wrong! And it should not be legal! And before anyone says "well you should not be late paying," well this is only after thirty five days and then they own your stuff in your unit. Anyone can fall on tough times with money right? And one more thing.. I made this payment online on the last week of the month and I thought everything was good but what happen was for some reason it did not go thru. Next thing I know my unit is in lien and I have other big late fees now and they also want the next months payment too or I will still be in lien!
And here's the thing I can't figure. I get a whole bunch of bothering phone calls the whole entire month and once I made this payment the phone calls stop and then I get a phone call on the 5th of the month and that is the day they put my unit on lien.. Why didn't they call me these last six days knowing my payment had not gone thru but instead called and harassed me all month long when I really could of benefited from a call when my account was actually in trouble! And you know I never wrote a review online before today. But after I tried to ask customer service if they can please waive one or two of these fees and telling them this was only the first time this happen with my account, I was told no! And the (Public Storage) where I have my unit they did not care to hear me at all and even though I've been a long time customer! P.S I hate you guys!

I've rented space with PS Storage for 25 +/- years. Last fall, due to the need for expansion into several storage spaces by a cell company, I was forced to relocate my belongings to a different space, several garages down from the existing one. Yesterday I received a notice that as of July 1st my rent will be raised by 17% ($40). I questioned both the date (Shouldn't it be November - 1 year from the move date) and the amount. Initial customer service agent essentially said “Because it's still below market - nothing can be done”. I asked for a supervisor - after 5 minutes negotiating through the phone menu I left a message. Today received a call back from an individual who essentially blew me off - saying no one can give you any reduction in the increase because you are still below market.
Given that I was paying more than $150 more than they say the market is, I said - how about returning the overpayments I've been paying for several years. The response was – “Can't do anything about that”. Of course they can do something about it - PS Storage obviously has absolutely no concern for long term renters, they could (and should) be willing to do something, they just refuse to do so. I will most definitely look for a new facility to relocate my belongings to. They are EXTREMELY convenient to my home (location-wise) but enough is enough. I will pay their 17% increase for a few months - but will most definitely seek another facility who is more respectful and more thankful for their long-term renters.

Up pricing is a trap method used by Public Storage. Once you have moved in and have spent a lot of time and effort getting your possessions in house they raise the "rent". This is done knowing that for you to move is just too costly and difficult, you are trapped and there is no end in sight. If you do not pay they auction your possessions and rent the space to another. If you do pay there is no assurance that in a few months the rent will not go higher once again. In addition they deflect any calls of complaint. You are treated like a dog chasing your own tail and there is nothing you can do about it. They will exhaust you until you either move out, pay the increases or abandon your possessions. No matter it is a lose, lose, lose for you. STAY AWAY or Pay.

I was forced due to a medical condition, to have to move out of my house and store all my belongings. The closest storage was Public storage so this is where I put my stuff. I have been with the company since 2011. I started off with a 20x10 unit but after rates kept rising on me I had to scale down to a 10x10 ( which was only a $20 savings) and they charged me for having two units at the same time. I was moving out of one unit into another, I guess that is considered having 2 units at the same time, at this point I was a customer of theirs for 2+ years already (no loyalty treatment whatsoever).
Now I am in a smaller unit which is closer to the woods. One day I went down to check on my belongings and saw some mouse poison packets in the corners by the door. First off I know I didn't put those in there and I know I had no mice/rats when I moved in, then I noticed cardboard pieces on the couch I have stored, which lead to a box that had been chewed thru. I am very angry and go to the office to ask them about rodents, I was in a storage unit up front for 2+ years....NO RODENTS. They put me in a unit near the woods and now there is rat poison and rodent damage IN my unit. What do they do? They give me more packets of poison and say "The units near the woods are more susceptible to rodents. What can we say, it is Rat City for a reason." I live in White Center aka Rat City and this was their explanation.
Another situation is one time I opened my unit and discovered mold on some items that were visual. Again I am PISSED off and go to the office to complain and they say it will go away when the weather gets better hence we live in Seattle the rainy city. So after several more rent increases in the next two years (It just raised from $225.00 to $248.00) for a 10x10 unit I call to see if there is anything that can be done to bring down the cost or since I been there for so long if maybe they can put a rent freeze on my unit and the answer is NO. I get a speech about land property values and reassessment BS.
Needless to say I can't take this kind of treatment any longer so I called around to a few other storage companies within a 10 mile radius and found a place that for $138.00 a month (no gimmicks) I can get a 10x10 unit and they provide a truck to help move your belongings. I will be moving out of Public Storage on the first of this month. GOOD RIDDANCE to the horrible service and units at Public Storage. I do have one question, when I start moving my belongings, if i find further rodent and mold damage can I sue Public Storage?

To my knowledge no repairs, improvements or anything have been done to this space during this extended rental period. This is an increase of approximately 89%. During this time there have been advertised specials for new rentals and yet long-time clients are treated with no regard for rental collected..only increases in the use of facilities. Why is no courtesy extended to me?
I have been harassed on occasions if the rental check happened to be one day late. In these instances I have suggested that I would call TV stations and expose this company and have refused to pay what they have designated as a late fee. I import product from China and occasionally need extra space. For the first time ever I rented a 10'x20' from Public Storage. Our boxes incoming from China have a specific size LxWxH so it is very easy with a CAD rendering to see how many boxes will fit into a 20x10 space and how many boxes we have to stack. To the best of my knowledge, 10'x20' = 200 square feet. Despite our accurate CAD rendering, we noticed that a large portion of boxes would not fit. At first I thought we had made a mistake in our calculations, so we recalculated and re-measured everything. The truth of the matter is that the unit that was supposed to be 200 sq feet, was only 144 sq feet of usable space. Moral of the story, people lie, figures do not. If they are charging $150 for 200 sq feet and they end up giving you 144 sq feet, the cost should be $108 as opposed to $150 monthly. Again, this is living proof that figures do not lie.
Secondly, their insurance seems to cover everything. We asked if it covered mildew rodents and the like. Their answer was "yes". "Are you a storage rental facility or an insurance company, I ask"? Most household items are covered by home owners insurance, so before paying extra insurance, please check carefully on what is covered and not. Get them to write it down, and sign. If they are not willing to do that you must not get conned into paying. "Oh, the state of Florida demands you have insurance!" "Ok fine, show me the legislature then". I hope you can see where all this is going? What is wrong with people?

Another predator business. Taking advantage of people at a stress time (moving). The use of storage for your personal belongings is one that is made under stress. My nightmare started in April 2014. Same story as everybody else. Bait and switch with the $1.00 month story. I was there less than a month when the locker was burglarized. They allowed me to look at the storage unit supervised, giving them a rough estimate of what was take. So they could file a police report. (3 days before my son wedding, on May 30, 2014). Stressed again. They filed the police report and placed a lock on it. I really no longer reside in Missouri. But back about every 2 months.
I go to the locker after wedding and prior to leaving and I'm told until I purchase my own lock I can't enter the locker. So now I will never know really who stole what. So went back in July I purchased a lock and completed a more thorough inventory of my missing items gave to front desk employee to add to police report. 2 cases of wine for the rehearsal and wedding stolen. 1 case expensive (Duckhorn), the other cake something. All in all approximately 10 to 12 items stolen. Police Department informed me that they frequently broken into. Estimate of cost to replace my items on a good day $1200-$1400.
Perfect Solution informed me that some of my things were old. I didn't have proof of ownership (receipts). (Who has receipt for their Christmas tree and ornaments). Yes they stole my 7 1/2 ft artificial tree and ornaments. So after the $100 deductible, $508.00. Are you kidding me. That covers my tree and ornaments. I would've come out better donating. What was stolen at least I would've gotten a tax write off. (items Hoover spin brush, HAIER room air conditioner, Samsung home theater, Sony convert tapes to DVDs, Acer aspire notebook, Euro Pro heavy duty sewing machine and a brand new never used fireplace electrical heater (took the heater left the mantel) and of course the rehearsal and some of the wedding wine. How do you pay for storage and not allowed to enter? Who does that? By July 2015 I will have what belongings I have left out of that crooked facility.

Based on my experience and the number of negative reviews, it would be wonderful if the appropriate group could open an investigation into Public Storage's pricing and management practices. Certainly not loyalty generating. This is a publicly-traded company and they have made so many acquisitions that there are very few additional options available for the consumer. If they are going to raise my fee by nearly $20 after 6 months with no additional benefit and no business case for why (other than a verbal reflects the market) it is great incentive to take my business elsewhere -- but there is nowhere to go! Further the price increase does not indicate a from -- only the to. They can and should do much better.

I have been with Public Storage since the end of December 2015. My husband and I were sold on a unit because of their winter special that advertised a 5x10 unit for $105.50/month. It had only been a few months before I received a letter in the mail stating that they have raised my rate to over $139.00/month. Because my contract gives them the right to raise rates, I am locked into this situation unless I want to pay for a U-Haul to move my belongings. When I called to make a complaint with customer service, they explained that they knew that people would be angered by the raised rates and that they may lose customers but it was what they were willing to sacrifice. They would not pass me along to anyone else because the company is refusing to negotiate lower rates with anyone. Please do not use this company to store your belongings. They rope you in with a special promotion and then jack up the prices on you a couple months in.

Okay, so on April 30, 2015 I received a call from Public Storage that I owe a balance of around 45 dollars. I didn't know I owed any money because at the time of signing, March 22, 2015, I was told that the amount of 31 and some change would cover my storage until April 30, 2015 and that I could pay a prorated amount, around 25 dollars, and that It would take me until the end of May. Well I said I didnt need it that long and that I will have my things moved out by April 30, 2015.
Okay, so on April 30, 2015, the day I was going to move my stuff out, Public Storage called me saying I owed money. So I didn't understand how so I drove to Public Storage on April 30, 2015 and talked to someone about the situation and told them that **, the property manager, had told me that the money I paid March 22, 2015 would take me to that very day, April 30,2015. So that employee had me wait until ** came in from viewing the property to talk with her and she told me I owed around 45 dollars. I told her I didn't have it on April 30, 2015. I will have it on my payday, May 5, 2015, and asked how much I will owe then. She said, "Around 57 dollars."
Now I am up because I was told as long as I moved out by April 30, 2015 that I would owe anything. But anyway I told her, "I will be there to pay the 57 dollars on May 5, 2015 and move out." She said, "Okay." So today is May 5, 2015 and I went to the Public Storage to pay and move out. Now they talking about I have to pay close to 200 dollars and now I am really angry because I was told, "Around 57 dollars." So the lady was trying to help me get the situation resolved. She gave me a number to call this man named **. He has the worst ability to work with customers. I mean, this man hung up in my face and told me he isn't calling ** about the situation because it's her off day and that he can waive the fees but won't. This place sucks and I mean this man sucks. So I hope that no one who reads this rents to that place, let alone talk to the sad, horrible employees.

Went to Public Storage two weeks ago and was told about the $1 first month rent promotion and was told to come back when we were ready to fill the space. Agent told me not to rent today, "wait until you are ready to fill it up". We went back this weekend and the same agent told us 'no we don't have any $1 rent space at this building. We have space but you have to pay full price" we were told. We asked if she remembered differing us from two weeks prior and she said she did but could not help us with the promotion that was advertised on line as well as on the three large window clings on the office.
I got the DM's name and number and called him and told him about the issues we had and he will not return my calls. Stay away! There are too many good honest businesses to associate with than to waste time with a company that does not care about their customers. They over promise and under deliver.
